Cavino oh, I roll my eyes at you. And my so here's my question last night, since I'm, you know, Rich Davis, big hockey fan. I was at the LA Kings game last night. Lot of fun. Always good to catch a hockey game here and there. I can't act like I'm, you know, the guy that loves the NHL or hockey, but going to a hockey game really is a great experience and that's what every hockey fan will say, go live and you'll love it. And I learned a fun fact last night. Danny G. This may be common knowledge for people out here in la, but you know, it makes sense. But I connected the dots. Don't laugh at me if this is common knowledge. When the Lakers and the Kings were both playing in the early 80s out here together, they were both gold and purple. Yeah, Dr. Buss, when Dr. Buss sold the team, that's when the the LA Kings dropped the Lakers colors and went silver and black.

They went nwa and the reason, from.

[Dan Roth]

What I understand, is that Raiders merchandise sold off the shelves and it was that time of starter jackets and all the merch in the 80s and 90s and they made a decision to say, hey, the Kings new ownership, we're going silver and black just based on the popularity of the Raiders colors. And the rest is history. So I'm at the Kings game last night, you know, hockey guy, I must be good luck because I've been to a few Kings games and they're all blowouts. But I went to the highest scoring Kings game of the year. They won 9 1. So I ask you this hypothetical, based on blowouts and based on Covino, like, I'm watching till the end. Forget watching.

[Nate Thompson]

Watching to the end. You know, you could, like I said, clean off your kitchen counter. You need to shut it off.

Put on anything else.

Yeah, Rich needs to watch Smut Island.

Put on an episode of Put on some Property Brothers. Anything but a terrible celebrity iou.

So I got to ask, as a player, they're still professionals, right? So let's keep this in mind. But let me. Let me. Let me play this out for you, and then we'll go around the room. Okay. I'm watching the San Jose Sharks, who are the worst team in the NHL. They're losing in the third period. 9 1. As a player, as a professional, what do you think the emptiest garbage feeling is having to play out the third period where there's no way on earth you're going to score eight goals? Being an NFL player where your team's down, like, 317 in the fourth quarter and you're like, I just take these snaps. I don't want to get hurt. Baseball, if your team's down, like, 101 in the sixth inning and you're like, oh, we got three more grueling innings, we're down 10 runs or something. Or basketball, if it's not your night and you're down 25 plus going into the fourth quarter, as a player who gets paid as a pro, what do you think is the most? Like, ugh.

[Nate Thompson]

I would say there's an obvious answer, and it's none of which you said. I don't know if those are my only options, but I would say it's getting your ass whooped in the octagon or in the ring, and you just know that it's not your night.

[Dan Roth]

Oh, you. It's a sixth round and you're down probably six rounds to, oh, you've lost.

[Nate Thompson]

Every round, and you know this dude's hurting you, and you just, you know, I've never been in that situation, but can you imagine, like, your heart's big enough that you don't want to quit, but you know you're not going to win? So do you just tough it out the next six rounds? Or you, like, you want to quit, but you can't? Like, it's so. That got to be insane.

[Dan Roth]

I think.

[Rich Davis]

I think similar to that, really quick, if you're an NFL player and your team's down by 31 points in the fourth quarter, you still have to hustle, you still have to play hard and you're still getting crunched CTE style. Like with. You know, so many NFL players have told us it's like many car crashes in each game, and you still have to go through all that.

[Dan Roth]

I think, man, I hated Cavino five minutes ago, but that's the best answer. I think boxing, what a great example. Imagine it is the sixth round and you're like. And, you know, as a fighter, yeah, I'm probably down six rounds to none.

[Nate Thompson]

You know, it's like. It's like going on a vacation with a girl you know you're breaking up with anyway.

[Dan Roth]

What's the positive outcome?

[Nate Thompson]

This is his terror.

[Dan Roth]

I hate you. You see all the other couples in love. No, but you're right, Camino. I think boxing might be the number one answer where you're down. I'm not winning this fight. Then you gotta hope. Maybe I get a lucky puncher shot. But if you realize your punches aren't even doing damage and you're like, so I'm just gonna. So. No, but it's different than the other sports because you are. I'm gonna take abuse for six more rounds.

And. And we've talked to many fighters. They know it's not their night. They just know it. Like, you always have the puncher's chance. But hey, man, sometimes, you know, you're just surviving in there and you see it. So that's got to be the worst. Then I would have to say football, because of the physical demand that's involved in that.

[Dan Roth]

Like Apollo, when Apollo knew, oh, Drago's gonna. He. He killed him.

[Nate Thompson]

He killed. It's horrible, you know, it's really horrible.

[Dan Roth]

I know.

[Nate Thompson]

So I would say that. But you're nine to one, man.

[Dan Roth]

When I was at that Kings. When I was at that Kings game, and I. Then that's the. I gotta be honest, I'm not a big hockey fan, so I'm like, I know the Sharks are not good, but I looked it up. I'm like, ooh, they're the worst in the Western Conference and in the NHL. And my. I was like, they're in last place. No hopes of the playoffs. They're terrible. They're down by eight goals. That third line of players, I know they're getting minutes, and they're probably like, yeah, I'm getting my minutes. How terrible does that feel? Like. Like it's. Hey, guys, it's gonna take us eight goals to tie this up. Just skating around, skating around, hoping, you know, nothing bad happens. But then again, baseball, if you're just. If Your pitchers don't have it. And I know baseball. There's no timing, so there's always a chance of a comeback. But you know those games where, oh.

Where you throw your infield onto the pitching.

[Dan Roth]

Yeah. Like when you're middle reliever did it.

[Nate Thompson]

Twice this when you're, you know, when.

[Dan Roth]

Your middle infielder off the bench is the pitcher and you know, you're just thinking like, throwing 50 miles an hour, let's get out of here. And that at that point. I've been there with rec softball where like, you're either winning or losing by 20 and you're like, we just could call mercy here and go on with our nights here.

[Nate Thompson]

Like it's, it's a dog did it two times. You know, that's also a reason to watch because interesting things might happen. We were debating that before Paul O'Neill told the story over the weekend where he went in there for the Reds as a position player early in his career. Said he took it too serious because no one wants to be embarrassed no matter how far the game has gone away. Like, nobody wants to be embarrassed individually in those moments, the team's already being embarrassed. Right. So Paul O'Neill goes into pitch and of course he's an outfielder and blows out his arm. Took it way too serious. He said for like the next few seasons, his arm was never the same.

[Dan Roth]

Like, even though he was an outfielder and played, he felt like he felt.

[Nate Thompson]

That pressure to throw or try to throw some heat. So anyway, you see it happen all the time. Rich was at the hockey game yesterday. Not the biggest hockey fans, but a live event. Live, anything's always fun.

[Rich Davis]

Do you remember when Jose Canseco hurt his arm when he finally got to go in as. I think it was the Rangers first ever position player to throw innings and he had to undergo Tommy John surgery.

[Dan Roth]

Well, you know what? I'll give you the analogy for regular bozos like you and I, Danny and Kavino, he's a bozo too. You know when you're at a carnival and it takes all of you not to try to throw the ball as hard as you can, when they have like the. How many miles an hour can you pitch?

[Nate Thompson]

That's why I don't do it anymore.

You do no warm up.

Every time you're cold, you do one quick little, like, rotation of your arm. Like, all right, here we go.

Man, I might high school. I knew I threw in the 80s. What happened to me? But yeah, so just. And speaking of which, did you see Ichiro through 88 miles an hour? Was it 88 or 83?

No. You know, does he or Kaepernick hold the record? One of them do for like first pitches miles per hour.

Geez.

I'm thinking it's fighting and then, and then football.

What pro sport is the garbage time the most brutal? And you're right, it's got to be number one fights. And then after that, contacts more like football or hockey. You know, technical.

Rich, like they always say, some sort of decathlon is probably the most taxing on your body. Right. What if you're like really out of the race but you've already powered through so long and so far, you still have to power through you like, you know, there's no chance.

[Dan Roth]

To investigate what's going on with Aaron Rodgers. And did you see that he had a throwing Session with DK Metcalf. Now, here's the question.

Do you think the outcome of that session like, Aaron Rodgers, like, let me see if I mesh with this guy, because that could be a pretty great combo if Roger still has gas in the tank. Do you think. Do you think that is more of a formality or do you think he's like, somehow sizing it up? Like, okay, DK Metcalf, let's see if you got what it takes to be Aaron Rodgers number one in Pittsburgh. Because I think that team, which has a great defense.

[Nate Thompson]

How did I think it's part of the process. He's not doing it to waste his time.

[Dan Roth]

How?

[Nate Thompson]

I can guarantee you that. How am I doing it? Just for fun.

[Dan Roth]

How now, Brown cow. How did Peyton Manning win his last Super Bowl? A great defensive team that carried a legendary quarterback past his prime. That seems awfully similar to what could happen in Pittsburgh with a great defense. If Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf and that offense could put up enough. They don't need to be the focal point for Pittsburgh.

[Nate Thompson]

That team was such a big dream in fairytale, but I'm saying that just too many good teams in the NFL. Yeah, but you don't think that the Steelers with Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers are going to be the team.

[Dan Roth]

I know. Isn't that the fun of the off season? There is big dreaming, bro.

[Nate Thompson]

Like, I mean, it's just too far. No way. Especially when he's played so bad.

[Rich Davis]

Covino, if you're a Steelers fan, you had to suffer through the end of last season with Russell Wilson fading and, you know, do you want another older quarterback?

[Nate Thompson]

No. If I was a Steelers fan, I would be like, hell, no. Hell to the no. I'd be so. Yeah, if that was the option, I would. I would be super upset. That's not to take anything away from. From Aaron Rodgers, but, man, call it a day. You know what? Tomorrow we might talk about retirement.

[Dan Roth]

You know, call me crazy, but I think a healthy Aaron Rodgers refocused with a defense that's dominant and some weapons and a coach like Mike Tomlin on a team that continuously is slightly above.500, makes the playoffs. Just can't get to the next step. What makes you think adding DK Metcalf and Aaron Rodgers and having a pretty decent offense, who's to say that team can't compete?

[Nate Thompson]

Hey, I would never root against the man. Prove me wrong. It'd be great. Or do you think.

[Dan Roth]

What do you think this is the.

[Nate Thompson]

Year where all of a sudden Aaron Rodgers turns it around.

[Dan Roth]

What happens every year in the nfc? The opposite.

[Nate Thompson]

I don't know, man. When you start getting older, that's just the fact I don't see people, like, all of a sudden turn it around and they're like, better than ever. And he would need to be better than ever to win a Super Bowl.

[Dan Roth]

Do you think this is the year? Because I know our buddy Brandon, who works in the newsroom. I saw him on social media earlier saying, is this the year where what traditionally happens in the AFC north, the Bengals dig such a deep hole, and then it feels like they spend the rest of the season trying to dig out of that hole and play catch up. What if Burrow. Now, they signed his targets. T. Higgins, Jamar Chase. They're locked in. He's locked in. What if that team gets to a hot start? Then the teams in that division even have a chance to. The Steelers, the Browns are awful. And Baltimore, I mean, they're getting better, too. It's going to be a lot of fun.

[Nate Thompson]

But, yeah, I would say they have a chance to make the playoffs if that were to happen.

[Dan Roth]

I just think that.

[Nate Thompson]

Do they have a chance to really win at all?

[Dan Roth]

For the fun of football, Camino, and for the people that hate Aaron Rodgers?

[Nate Thompson]

It's a matter of Aaron Rodgers just going out on a higher note, and there's no shame in that. Then, yeah, I guess he could do that. But you think the Steelers fans are excited about that?

[Dan Roth]

What if the Steelers go 11? What if they go 11 and 6 or 12 and 5 make the postseason? Aaron Rodgers makes it to the divisional round and loses to, like, Kansas City or Buffalo. Is that considered a, oh, cool, high note to go out on?

[Nate Thompson]

Yeah. Look, if you're. If you're okay, which is playing for slightly above.500 football, and you had a fun time and you made a million, several million dollars doing it. Yeah, that's. That's great, but that's not really what the fans want to see. We live in the world that we want Super Bowls, and we want to believe that is possible.

[Dan Roth]

All right, well, as we watch baseball in the background here, Mets in the Marlins in the first inning, 00. Peterson starts a season with three straight balls, finally throws a strike there. The Mets have a celebration that. I got to be careful about what I say because I know there's rules on terrestrial radio. Let's just say when the Mets get to second base, you know how the Dodgers do their little, like, dance where they wave their hands and stuff. The Mets have this thing which Was.

[Nate Thompson]

Homage to their trainer, Right?

[Dan Roth]

Yeah.

[Nate Thompson]

The hip flexor.

[Dan Roth]

Yeah, a little hip flexor. Little.

[Nate Thompson]

I mean, so corny. But it worked.

[Dan Roth]

I mean, corny for a team that's going to win 100.

[Nate Thompson]

I know.

Yeah. When Freddie Freeman first started doing it, I was like, I'm not sure about it now. It's funny because all the guys, like, overdo it. Almost making fun of it.

Yeah. You know, I guess, hey, you're winning. That's all that matters.

Camino, you love to point out some. A lot of times something starts out.

If it's your team.

A lot of times something starts out as, like a corny joke you're repeating. And then you do it so much that it's like, man, am I. It's not a corny joke anymore. We all do it.

Exactly. That's what happened.

What the Dodgers do. I know other teams have their own little, like revving a motorcycle or what? You know, every. Every team has something when they get to second base. Little slapping motion or something. Something. The Mets debuted a new one, and I just wonder if even Steve Cohen.

[Nate Thompson]

Who'S one of the greed on it.

[Dan Roth]

If even if Steve Cohen is one of the coolest owners in sports, do you think he's going to be like, yeah, let me tell you something. We got to. Oh, man. Solo home run. Marlins up one. Nothing. Just like that. Do you think Mets ownership is like, let's stop this. Because what I'm talking about is what we're going to call here on Fox Sports. Ready? The junk drop.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah.

But a lot of these are questionable. Like the salt and pepper shaker. The pepper shaker kind of thing. Yeah, it looks like questionable. You know, I've seen that done a few times.

But when the guy uses.

Junk drop is next.

When the guy uses his forearm to replicate a dangle. A dangle of. You know, I just wonder if even. Because, you know, there's Met fans that don't like when Pete Alonzo throws out the. The let's effing go Mets. They're like, he's a leader and a role model.

What's wrong with that? The effing part.

[Dan Roth]

Yeah. Cause there are times in the stadium during a big win, he'd be like.

[Nate Thompson]

Give me a break.

Lfgm. Let's. And he'll say, effing go Mets.

I don't know, man. What kids are exposed to today on social media, that's like child's play.

[Dan Roth]

And keep in mind, these guys, you know, a lot of them in their twenties. So do you think you don't think.

A little Bobby McMillan is saying worse in the playground.

No, of course he is.

You think the parents don't drop the F bomb once in a while? I'm not saying it's okay, but it's not that bad.

I'm just saying. Do you. How do you feel about the Mets new quote, junk drop, where they get to second base and they use their funny.

[Nate Thompson]

But I'm an adult. I'm a grown man, boy, whatever you want to call me for kids. I think it's horrible.

[Dan Roth]

All right, let's see. Let's say.

[Nate Thompson]

Because kids emulate big league players and they have little Leaguers doing that.

[Dan Roth]

That's what I was going to say. Let's say your kids are on the east coast out here in la. I promise you, I see it as a Little League field. A kid gets on second base, they do. They imitate their Dodgers heroes. A kid in. A kid in pony ball or Little League will get to second base and do his little Dodger hip flexor, which is expected. Some kid playing on Long island or Jersey, if he gets a second base and he's 12 and like. And he's like, hey, I got a double.

[Nate Thompson]

But we all did it when it came to wrestling, though. But wrestling is entertainment. Like, we're doing. Hey, you know what I mean? Pointing at our junk and everything else.

[Rich Davis]

Guy would get under there and do that.

[Nate Thompson]

It's really graphic the way they do it. Like, you can't watch this little celebration and not immediately understand what they're.

[Dan Roth]

Well, hold on.

Trying to do here. If you're going to tell me it's something else, I'm going to say you're lying.

Let's rewind to when the Cubs were in the World series in the 20 teens, there was some junk bumping.
