Okay, have you heard about this? Last year, Degree changed the formula for their Cool Rush deodorant and their fans rebelled and wanted the old scent back and degree listened. That doesn't happen often. They admitted they effed up and they're bringing back the original Cool Rush scent. They're bringing it back and it's exactly how you remember it. Cool, crisp and fresh. There's a Reason? It's the number one men's antiperspirant and it's back in Walmart, Target and other stores now for under four bucks. So try and see what the fuss is about. Head to your local Walmart or Target to try the OG degree. Cool rush for yourself. Thanks for listening to the Herd podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio at noon to 3 Eastern, 9am to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd@foxsportsradio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR.
Cameron Dicker
Now, let's get this party started. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Colin Cowherd
All right, welcome back to the Herd. We got a special guest here in the studio. He's a kicker on the Chargers and he's got a great nickname. Cameron Dicker. Dicker the Kicker. How are you, man?
Cameron Dicker
I'm fantastic. It is a good nickname, huh?
Colin Cowherd
It's not bad. Yeah. Well, by the way, who gave you that?
Cameron Dicker
Science teacher in seventh grade. Kind of wild. It was named Mr. Gonzalez. Mr. G. He was a beast. I had him for sixth, seventh, and then eighth grade. They gave me a different science teacher, but he moved into eighth grade with our class, too. And I could have had him for three years straight, but the screw, they screwed me at school.
Colin Cowherd
So you were being. You were like a kicker from like seventh grade?
Cameron Dicker
Yeah. So I started playing football in China in fifth grade. So I was from. I grew up in China, moved to the U.S. in sixth grade. Didn't play football that year. Just played soccer in seventh grade. Everybody in Texas plays football. So I was like, we're playing some football here.
Colin Cowherd
Was that kind of culture shock? China to Texas?
Cameron Dicker
It was weird. I thought I was going to be like riding horses to school, like, very genuinely was, like, this is what I'm doing. And it turned out that I wasn't. I was just living, having a good time.
Colin Cowherd
This was. You're so young. I mean, this Friday Night Lights, the TV show, are you familiar with it or.
Cameron Dicker
No, to be honest with you, I've never watched it. It's really sad. I've been told I need to watch it all the time. My girlfriend's on my butt to get watching it. But yeah, I'll. I'll watch it now.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. I mean, apparently Texas high school football is everything there. Growing up, like, I mean, was it. Pretty much.
Cameron Dicker
It's wild.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah.
Cameron Dicker
It's crazy. So in high school. So when I was 16, so my sophomore year, our state championship Game was in front of like 40,000 people. And I was like a 16 year old and I was like, this is crazy. Yeah. Like every home game is about 10,000 people. And you're just like, what are we?
Colin Cowherd
And so normally, even in the TV show, in the movie, it's, you know, the quarterback is a star and all stuff. What's life like as a high school kicker in Texas? Are you being celebrated? You know, like you're the homecoming king and everything. Are you the man?
Cameron Dicker
Not at all. I was loving life as a soccer player.
Colin Cowherd
Oh.
Cameron Dicker
Barely showed up to football things. I'd show up for games, show up for the practices when I needed to kick everything else. I was like, I'm going to be at soccer practice. I'm going to be doing my own. I never. So they have like, I don't know if in California and stuff you have like football period in school, but we would do AB schedules. We had four classes a day. One of the classes was a sport class. So you'd really. Three classes a day.
Colin Cowherd
Okay.
Cameron Dicker
And I never was in the football period. I was only in soccer period. Even through football season, it was all soccer and then.
Colin Cowherd
So you were soccer first. What position in soccer?
Cameron Dicker
Center back and then some outside back my freshman year.
Colin Cowherd
So an enforcer.
Cameron Dicker
Big foot at the back. I kind of like to be a dick on the field. That kind of works. It's like, I'll let you say. Yeah, it's like, you know, that's the way I was. It was just kind of funny. You put on an ass.
Colin Cowherd
You seem laid back. You don't seem like a center back enforcer who's gonna mess people.
Cameron Dicker
But you got to have fun. You got to have both sides. You got to be the guy. Like a guy is walking backwards and you kind of like bump them and then if they fall over, you're like, oh, dude, let me help you up. Like, you play both sides.
Colin Cowherd
This guy's slick. I like that. So let me ask, are you following USA Soccer in the Gold cup and everything? Are you? Are you?
Cameron Dicker
A little bit. A little bit. I've been watching a lot more of the Club World Cup. Oh, what's your squad for the Club World Cup? I really like psg. I think they've been dominant. Who doesn't? But Al Hilal is awesome too. I've been playing with them in FIFA since like 2021.
Colin Cowherd
Playing games.
Cameron Dicker
FIFA's the only one.
Colin Cowherd
This guy's young. He's 25.
Cameron Dicker
Yeah, yeah. FIFA's the only one. So in college, in 2021. Me and my roommate is one of my best friends. We would play FIFA and we were like, maybe we'll start streaming. And we only played with Alal and it was so fun. We would just dominate people.
Colin Cowherd
Wait, so you. Were you streaming or.
Cameron Dicker
No, no, we just realized. Yeah, we realized, like, we're in college, we'll probably say something stupid and.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, you get canceled or something. So let me. Did you see the match against Man City the other. Oh, yeah, My family was at that game and they kept texting me. This is insane. So cool. Wow, that was unbelievable.
Cameron Dicker
Yeah, that was such a cool.
Colin Cowherd
Let's get to the NFL. Talk to me about, like, life as a kicker with the Chargers. Like, what's it like? I mean, you guys have Justin Herbert, Jim Harbaugh, big personality coach, quiet quarterback. How do you kind of fit into this thing?
Cameron Dicker
Kind of quiet quarterback.
Colin Cowherd
He's quiet, isn't he?
Cameron Dicker
He's more quiet than others, but he. We do a lot of stuff together outside of football.
Colin Cowherd
You guys hang a lot.
Cameron Dicker
Yeah. So he's a. He's an awesome dude. Very fun. Quiet around cameras, but not a quiet person.
Colin Cowherd
Oh, interesting.
Cameron Dicker
And so very vocal leader for the team. Good person around. But Jim Harbaugh, I think, definitely helps bring that out. But Jim also brings everybody up into like, hey, be yourself. Go have fun. And kind of has the culture of like, hey, you're loved in this building. So, like, be yourself and have fun. Which.
Colin Cowherd
So it's funny. You give off the laid back, chill vibe. Right? Jim Harwell's not like that. He's kind of intense. So just. Is there a clashing of personalities at all there?
Cameron Dicker
No, I think he loves it. He always talks about how much he loves it. It's so funny. I don't know why. Every time I'm like, somewhere with him, he's like, we were at the World cup party here at Fox Studios, what, two weeks ago, and we were talking to somebody who's like, I just love how laid back and relaxed this guy is. And, oh, I just want to be like that. And I was like, what? Yeah. So pretty funny.
Colin Cowherd
So we don't need to talk about specifically where you live, but you. I found out you live near me. Harbaugh lives near us. Are you guys. Are you going to bars with Jim Harbaugh hanging out?
Cameron Dicker
Never.
Colin Cowherd
After hours?
Cameron Dicker
Never. We had a rule. They brought us somewhere and his. He basically in front of the whole team was like.
When we got.
When we go out as a team, you can have a beer. I'd have no more than one beer. Maybe drink half a beer and then leave. That's the best way to do it is you drink half a beer, you show your face, and then you get home and go spend time with your family. And I was like, yes, that's a good.
Colin Cowherd
But you're a single guy. Does that apply to you?
Cameron Dicker
I have a girlfriend. I've had a girlfriend for a long time, so I'm. I'm not out and about.
Colin Cowherd
You're. Listen, this guy's so rare. Your Instagram, you got a ton of followers. I mean, that's not normal for an NFL kicker, right?
Cameron Dicker
Yeah, but we're. We have fun. It's. It's more than.
Colin Cowherd
That's what I was saying.
Cameron Dicker
We have a good time.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's living the dream.
Cameron Dicker
So let's go.

Hey everybody, you've heard me talk about Green River Whiskey, the official whiskey of the Herd podcast. And if you know anything about me, I love a good metaphor. So the team at Green river challenged me to come up with a perfect metaphor to describe their incredible bourbon and rye whiskeys. And with the playoffs upon us, the answer is clear. Green River Whiskey is like a big playoff win by your favorite team, always sure to raise your spirits. So pair the thrills of this playoff season with Green River Whiskey. And with four core products in their starting lineup, there's something to suit any taste. To find Green river near you, head on over to greenriverwhiskey.com here's the green River Whiskey. Raise your spirits. A product of Green River Distilling Company, Owensboro, Kentucky. Alcohol by volume varies by product. Greenriverwhiskey.com Please drink responsibly. Hey, so we all make mistakes, but owning up to them is the right thing to do. So you know Degree Cool Rush deodorant, right? Well, last year they changed the formula and it did not go over well with their fans. So Degree's whole thing is it turns up the sweat and odor protection when you turn up the effort. And good thing it does because Cool Rush fans really turned up the effort to bring the original formula back. One guy even started an online petition and Degree listened. They admitted they effed up. They're bringing back the original Cool Rush scent. They're Bringing it back and it's exactly how you remember it. Cool, crisp and fresh. It's back in Walmart, Target and other stores now for under $4. There's a reason it's been the number one men's antiperspirant for the last decade. It's the same reason why people were not happy when it changed. So if you've never tried it it might be a good time to see what the fuss is about. Head to your local Walmart Target and try the OG degree cool rush for yourself.
Colin Cowherd
So I don't know how much you follow like this show but I've kind of been bashing the Chiefs. I think their run has ended. I don't think they're making the playoffs next year. I'm just curious about really well too Their offensive line is a mess. They're Kelsey. I don't want to call them Wash but you saw the stats at the end of last season. Not quite delivering.
Cameron Dicker
The schedule's brutal but they find ways to win. Well you got to give it to them. They find ways to win.
Colin Cowherd
So they they were 11 and 0 and 1 score games in the regular season. There's no chance they're duplicating that. So if they go five and six that's now six more losses. I don't. I see they'd like as eight nine win team.
Cameron Dicker
Yeah. I think our division also is going to be arguably the best division in the National Football League this year. I think the way that this division's trending is great. I think the other teams are coming up. I mean technically the Chiefs should are kind of coming down from being the number one team probably for the last three years. So it's going to be interesting for sure.
Colin Cowherd
Chiefs fans follow the show so you can give them all the bulletin board material.
Cameron Dicker
I'm not saying anything. I'm not saying anything.
Colin Cowherd
I think better than their kicker. Come on.
Cameron Dicker
I like Harrison Bucker. I think he's a great kicker. Nothing against him. Nothing against him.
Colin Cowherd
But the division did get tougher. Raiders all of a sudden they're not a pushover anymore.
Cameron Dicker
100 they got a real coach.
Colin Cowherd
You know they got. Well I don't know about their quarterback but they're going to be like a 67 win team. And then Denver kind of they might have the best defense in the league.
Cameron Dicker
Denver is going to be interesting. They're going to be a good team. I think the Raiders are going to surprise people. I think they're going to win random games that nobody thinks they should be and then I think the Broncos are just. Yeah, I think they're going to be a tough team to play.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah.
Cameron Dicker
For us and for anybody.
Colin Cowherd
What's like the mental like the off season regime. You see these guys, Derrick Henry running up hills with parachutes. All these guys working their butts off. What's a kicker doing in the off season?
Cameron Dicker
Same thing, you know. Same thing. You know Manhattan beach, they got that sand dune.
Colin Cowherd
Are you going there?
Cameron Dicker
Never. I actually have never seen.
Colin Cowherd
Costs like $1 to go there for the locals. Yeah.
Cameron Dicker
You have to pay to go.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. I mean, you could probably sneak in.
Cameron Dicker
And just play tennis.
Colin Cowherd
You play?
Cameron Dicker
Are you tennis? No.
Colin Cowherd
You play any pickleball?
Cameron Dicker
I love pickleball. I'm really good at pickleball. I. I'll like challenge anybody. Where am I looking? I'll challenge anybody to pickleball.
Colin Cowherd
So I got a son, this is my thing, who's ready to play tournaments and he plays against a. So maybe he could play you. Well, I mean, we went to Chargers off season minicamp.
Cameron Dicker
Maybe not if he's playing tournaments. I don't play tournaments.
Colin Cowherd
14, bro. You could take.
Cameron Dicker
Oh, I could take him then. I feel pretty good.
Colin Cowherd
So. So is, is there like a regimen you need to follow like to hardcore in the offseason, like that stuff or.
Cameron Dicker
No? Yeah, kind of. I mean, like, I eat decently well. I like ice cream, so I'm always going to eat ice cream. That's my biggest weakness. But working out, I go into the facility and still work out with our strength coach. I do like four days upper body, two days lower body a week.
Colin Cowherd
Four days upper body. Yeah.
Cameron Dicker
He just splits it up.
Colin Cowherd
Hell yeah. You can't do legs every day.
Cameron Dicker
Yeah, you gotta look. You gotta look at.
Colin Cowherd
The sun's out, guns out.
Cameron Dicker
We actually do like no arms. We don't believe in it. We do something like one day a week maybe. But it's not about looks. I'm about function more than looks. And that's like I. My goal is to be one of the best at pull ups on the team. And then we do neck workouts and I'm trying to just like destroy people in the neck.
Colin Cowherd
How many pull ups can you do just jumping on the bar?
Cameron Dicker
Not that many. Like 16.
Colin Cowherd
I mean, that's probably pretty good for a kid. I don't, you know, that's pretty.
Cameron Dicker
Just for a kicker is wild. That's pretty good for most people. I'd say most dudes in the National Football League, that's a pretty good. If they're doing real pull Ups like I'm doing like full normal pull ups.
Colin Cowherd
Chin above the bar.
Cameron Dicker
Yeah, like. No, you go all the way down to like touch the bar to your chest all the way down.
Colin Cowherd
16. That's pretty good.
Cameron Dicker
Yeah. Neutral grip.
Colin Cowherd
Oh, geez. Yeah, he's serious. I would say we'll get. Have a pull up.
Cameron Dicker
We got five grips, but I, I.
Colin Cowherd
Don'T think I could do 60.
Cameron Dicker
No, my. Right now what we're trying to do is do 32nd hang, 32nd hold. 32nd hang, 32nd hold. And I've got 30, 30, 30. And then on the hold at the top, I was holding it in my hands. I didn't have the grip strength and my hands fell out. I still held my arms like this when I hit the ground. And I was at 23 seconds, 7 seconds short.
Colin Cowherd
I forgot kickers have to tackle sometimes.
Cameron Dicker
Yeah, that's why I'm doing the neck workout.
Colin Cowherd
Exactly. So do you have any memorable tackles from the last couple seasons or. Not really, no.
Cameron Dicker
Really, Just college. I got a targeting call on me.
Colin Cowherd
Stop.
Cameron Dicker
But I got run over.
Colin Cowherd
Come on, you got trucks.
Cameron Dicker
I'm really, I'm really bad at tackling. I do it. Any kids watching don't tackle how I do in my position. All I need to do is get the guy on the ground. And I know that I need to learn and do a better job at doing clean tackles so I don't hurt myself, but I just throw my body in there. I'm just like, as long as this guy hits the ground. Yeah, I've done my job.
Colin Cowherd
You were a center back in soccer, so you know how to kind of. Yeah. All right, so you mentioned Texas. Obviously you went there. You were, I believe, a two or three time all American kind of a legend.
Cameron Dicker
I don't know that maybe it wasn't maybe.
Colin Cowherd
Conference. Here we go.
Cameron Dicker
That's good. But like, I think I was good in a bad time of Texas football, so that's why it like helps me. And I made big kicks, but my stats weren't great. If I'm being honest. I am doing a lot better now.
Colin Cowherd
So. Okay, we'll come back to Texas. But so if your stats weren't great, how did you get to the NFL?
Cameron Dicker
They were good.
Colin Cowherd
They were good.
Cameron Dicker
They were good.
Colin Cowherd
But it wasn't like you were 40 or 43 kicking field goals.
Cameron Dicker
No, I was not. I was not doing that well. I punted, so I was really good at punting, really good at kicking. So both of those like probably top 510 in the country in those. I'd say then my first opportunity was actually with the Rams, and it was mainly kind of punting, but I was like, hey, I'm a kicker who can punt, not a punter who kicks. So through all the draft process, that's what I was telling teams at the combine. I didn't punt. I just kicked. I went 15 for 15 on field goals and then went undrafted. And I was like, this kind of sucks. Like, this is not the dream everybody talks about. Went to the Rams, and they cut me after the first preseason game, and I was like, geez, did you even.
Colin Cowherd
Get a chance to kick in that game?
Cameron Dicker
Yeah, I kicked and punted.
Colin Cowherd
Okay.
Cameron Dicker
And so I did. I kicked, punted, and kickoff. So I took. I did all three. Then the Ravens picked me up after I did five days of workouts, and I kicked and punted in that game. Did really well in both games. Probably had the best punts in my career ever in my life. In the Rams game, it was against the Chargers, and then signed with the Eagles. And it's just kind of like a blessing, you know, I think there's a lot of people who are really talented, and they just. A door doesn't open for them, or when the door opens, they don't take advantage of an opportunity. So just kind of taking advantage of the opportunities when God opens the door.
Colin Cowherd
What do you think happened with the Eagles to. Was it your performance or just right place, right time?
Cameron Dicker
They needed a kicker. I was available. Jake Elliott got hurt. I think it was against Jacksonville. They, like, slid into his foot, and so they needed a guy for a week. It was me and another guy, and they brought us in to kick. I won that kicking kind of challenge between two of us, I guess. And they signed me. I sat in their room for, like, six hours, just like, what am I doing? Like, why am I here? You guys signing me or not? And it was pretty funny. I sat in their draft room, and it was just me alone. I called my. One of my best friends, and we were just. He was teaching me magic tricks because I was like, I'm so bored. Like, I don't know what to do here.
Colin Cowherd
Do you think this was a test by the Eagles or if they forgot you were there?
Cameron Dicker
No clue. By the time they were like, hey, we're gonna end up signing you. I learned, like, two magic tricks, and I was like, let me show you these magic tricks for before we sign these papers. And they let me do it. I performed two tricks.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, that's pretty good. I like that attitude.
Cameron Dicker
I don't know if they videoed it. But I performed two tricks, and then the third one, they brought some more people in and I just butchered the third one. Yeah, I didn't know the trick. I just tried to do it.
Colin Cowherd
So there's learning magic on the fly. I like. That's a. It's a. Yeah.
Cameron Dicker
I don't know it anymore.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, I think, by the way, I hate magic. I think it's, you know, so fake. You just know that it's. It's not real. It's some.
Cameron Dicker
I completely. Have you been to the Magic Castle?
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, we went there.
Cameron Dicker
And you think that was fake?
Colin Cowherd
It was kind of cool to watch it, but I just. It's just dumb.
Cameron Dicker
It's cool when you know what they're doing, but how do you. I kind of learn some of this stuff, but when you know what they're doing but you can't even spot it, that's when I think it's cool. Like, these guys are so talented. Their sleight of hand is, like, so quick.
Colin Cowherd
So I think of that with, like, pickpockets in Europe.
Cameron Dicker
Have you seen super talented people?
Colin Cowherd
That is talent.
Cameron Dicker
I completely agree. Talent used in the wrong way.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, like, I'm a backpack in the front guy when I go overseas, but who cares? Let's go back to Texas real quick. Obviously, Sarkeesian, Arch Manning. Are you following Texas football closely? Any thoughts on Arch Manning this season at Texas?
Cameron Dicker
I'm really excited for him. I think he's going to do really well. I've been a big fan of his since he's been, like, a freshman there. Just because, like, one of my first times working out there, when I went back, he walked up to me in the weight room and was like, hey, man, I'm Arch. Great to meet you. I've been following your career. Like, it's cool to see you do well. And I was like, damn, that's a cool dude. Like, for a quarterback to come in and, like, be a big dude, big name like him, and come up and introduce himself to anybody in the building is like, oh, okay. That's like a very normal person. And he's just like a normal guy enjoying college and I think, ready to go. Have a good time.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. That's pretty awesome. All right, let's go ahead. Let's get a prediction.
Cameron Dicker
Oh, boy.
Colin Cowherd
The Chargers this season, Super Bowl. What are you, the AFC Championship? What's. Does Herbert get his first playoff win? Do you have a winning field goal?
Cameron Dicker
For sure.
Colin Cowherd
What's going on? Give me some.
Cameron Dicker
We're for sure. Having to get at least one playoff. One. Like, I think. I think we're gonna win a couple more, but I have no clue. I never actually, like, set goals for the season. What about in life?
Colin Cowherd
Do you set goals in life at all or. No, you just like a wake up. And this is today. I don't know. It's Tuesday.
Cameron Dicker
I mean, just put your best foot forward and do the best you can. Everything you do.
Colin Cowherd
You're almost too laid back. Do you ever get that from people? No. No.
Cameron Dicker
I mean, I don't think so. Maybe some people might feel that way, but I don't really care, man.
Colin Cowherd
So, last question. So when you're hanging out with Herbert and you guys are tight, I would assume, or.
Cameron Dicker
Yeah. Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
A lot of people will notice him in public, but not everybody.
Cameron Dicker
It's. It's funny at times. Yes. We went out to dinner the other night with these funny contacts in and.
Colin Cowherd
What do you mean, like, colored contacts?
Cameron Dicker
They're like. Yeah, they're like colored contacts.
Colin Cowherd
What color?
Cameron Dicker
They were like, red. So we looked like we were just like vampires. And we went out to dinner and we walked into the salt and straw, and we're like standing there and both of us just eyes red. And we were like, this is incredible. Like, walking past kids and they were.
Colin Cowherd
Like, did anybody know it was you guys? Yeah.
Cameron Dicker
When we were checking out, this lady, like, gave him a $2 off coupon that she had on her thing. And then he didn't even pay for my ice cream. And I was like, this is ridiculous.
Colin Cowherd
First of all, you got to go to the local spot. You can't go to Salt and Straw.
Cameron Dicker
Salt and straw's pretty good, but I, I like Manhattan Beach Creamery a lot more. But salt and straw is like, is fun. They have fun, funky flavors.
Colin Cowherd
Never been there.
Cameron Dicker
I got a surprise. I had a cricket flavor, something with a cricket in it one time. It was really weird.
Colin Cowherd
This guy with the red contacts, that's what him and Justin Herbert. I love that.
Cameron Dicker
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Kind of want to hang out, man. We, I.
Cameron Dicker
We have a good time.
Colin Cowherd

Hey everybody, you've heard me talk about Green River Whiskey, the official whiskey of the herd podcast. And if you know anything about me, I love a good metaphor. So the team at Green river challenged me to come up with a perfect metaphor to describe their incredible bourbon and rye whiskeys. And with the playoffs upon us, the answer is clear. Green River Whiskey is like a big playoff win by your favorite team, always sure to raise your spirits. So pair the thrills of this playoff season with Green River Whiskey. And with four core products in their starting lineup, there's something to suit any taste. To find Green river near you. Head on over to greenriverwhisky.com here's the green River Whiskey. Raise your spirits. A product of Green River Distilling Company, Owensboro, Kentucky. Alcohol by volume varies by product. Greenriverwhiskey.com, please drink responsibly. Hey, so we all make mistakes, but owning up to them is the right thing to do. So, you know Degree Cool Rush deodorant, right? Well, last year they changed the formula, and it did not go over well with their fans. So Degree's whole thing is it turns up the sweat and odor protection when you turn up the effort. And good thing it does, because Cool Rush fans really turned up the effort to bring the original formula back. One guy even started an online petition, and Degree listened. They admitted they effed up. They're bringing back the original Cool Rush scent. They're bringing it back, and it's exactly how you remember it. Cool, crisp, and fresh. It's back in Walmart, Target, and other stores now for under $4. There's a reason it's been the number one men's antiperspirant for the last decade. It's the same reason why people were not happy when it changed. So if you've never tried it, it might be a good time to see what the fuss out. Head to your local Walmart Target, and try the OG Degree Cool Rush for yourself. All right.
Colin Cowherd
Back here on the Herd, boy. Cameron Dicker winning over fans in the building. Everybody wants to come meet him. Such a good guy. Hey, another good guy coming up right now. Ryan Hollins joining us to talk NBA and the Houston Rockets. Hollands. I. I like. Is that. Are you wearing a robe there? I like that look. Purple plum. I don't know. But, hey, we got to start here. Your Houston Rockets, they've won the off season. That's clear. Would you agree?
Cameron Dicker
Yeah, absolutely. There's no question, not just hitting the target in Kevin Durant, but putting the correct pieces around him and at the same time maintaining their core. And I think that was big for the Houston Rockets. When you've seen organizations go out and just acquire the best names or the hottest free agents or best trade targets at time, they lose culture. And one thing you're seeing is Houston is being able to maintain the culture from Ime Udoka, which is a defensive mindset, a group that plays for themselves. And now you adding Kevin Durant into a situation where you're not asking him to go out and be a playmaker or, you know, have to guard multiple positions, you're saying Kevin Durant be the best version of yourself. And I believe that the best version of Kevin Durant was with the Golden State warriors and he was asked to go out and score the basketball. And he's arguably the greatest we've ever seen do that.
Colin Cowherd
One surprise here is who's the leader of this team. You. They get in a huddle, fourth quarter, two point game, who's calling? Udoka obviously is a very good coach, but on the court, you need a player to be vocal. Durant historically has not been that. Is it Fred Van Vliet? Is it Sengun? I don't know. You know the team well. You're around him all the time. Who's the leader on the court for that squad?
Cameron Dicker
It's Fred Van Vliet. And one of the other acquisitions a lot of people aren't talking about is able to extend his contract out, if I'm not mistaken, about two more years. Because Fred is that vocal leader. He's the connection between IME and the players. And that's why everything's been so seamless. That's a lot of reason why a lot of these guys have played career basketball under IME Udoka, shooting percentages, winning. I mean, just you have success all around the court. So Fred is a guy that can step up and be willing to take that last shot. I think what's unique about him is that he can play off the ball. And I think that that's why a lot of people, when they evaluate Fred Van Vliet, they question him playing the point guard position because you won a championship in Toronto off the ball, but that's just how smart he is. So even when Fred's not playing, you see him on the sidelines and we see him, he's barking out orders, he's putting guys in the correct spots. And who doesn't like to play with a guy who's going to spoon feed the the ball to him? So Kevin's comfortable in that role, and I think that puts him in the best situation to be successful.
Colin Cowherd
You saw OKC in the playoffs up and down. They did need seven to beat Denver. They did need seven to beat the Pacers. They had. They got wins over a lot of teams that were injured in the playoffs. Aaron Gordon in game seven, Halliburton, obviously, I don't think the OKC goes in as number one in the west next year. I have Houston number one. Who do you have? Do you think the Rockets have done enough to pass okc?
Cameron Dicker
Man, I think it would be great to keep Oklahoma City Number one. And for Houston to go out and earn it. And I think, come on, come on, J. Mac. Come on, J. Mac. Like me and you both, we disrespected that group enough and they went out and proved it. And everybody wants to bark about injuries. Well, guess what? That's the way you win in the NBA now. Youth is taken over. Depth has taken over. You know, once upon a time, that was the Boston Celtics. They would go, you know, 9, 10, 11 deep in the playoffs and able to keep Jayson Tatum fresh. You know, everybody was saying, well, Tatum's not doing too much. He doesn't have to. As a good team. Oklahoma City, you can say, well, shading had to do much. They defend. It was Caruso, Williams. It was those guys, when they're at their best, they play as a group. So that's why they, at the end of the day, have been, have been healthier. And that's how you win in those situations. And they just, they wear you down. And they wore down the entire NBA in their youth was ended up being a blessing and not a curse. So let's not scoff at these injuries. They survived and they won a championship fair and square.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, they did, sure. Okay, we'll give them that. How about the Denver. Sorry, I had to. How about the Denver Nuggets? Where are you on them? They're off season has been really, really good so far.
Cameron Dicker
I thought that was a team that was, that was one of the wore down teams that got tired. And for, for Michael Porter Jr. I thought fatigue said, you know, he's a guy who can make shots. He's. He's as certified as they come. He's huge. He's darn near 6 foot 11, 6, 10 when you stand up next to him. But you get the younger version in Cam Johnson, who's going to be out in transition, who can run the lanes, who. I think putting the ball in his hands as a primary ball handler wouldn't get the best out of Cam Johnson. But Cam Johnson in a 3 and D position, he's special, man. And I think he's a guy who was a part of trade talks for the last, what, two or three seasons for NBA teams. He was on everybody's list. So for the Nets to make that move and Denver to pull this off, that puts them right back in the thing of the swing of things. And again, they took Oklahoma City to seven. Nikola Jokic is still the baddest man on the entire planet. So when you're looking at Denver, man, they're right in the mix. And they got their. Their guy back in. Bruce Brown. He was the glue guy. He was huge. He made a lot of the little plays. So I think that Denver. Denver is one of those dangerous teams right now, and you're going to have to again, put them right with the top three, not just in the west, but entire national basketball organization.
Colin Cowherd
Wow. So team in the west. We have not touched on the Los Angeles Lakers. They made a huge move this week, adding Jake Laravia to the roster at $6 million a year. Trying to get you to laugh, Ryan. I know you're down on the Lakers haven't done a lot. Luke has taken a beating. LeBron's out here on a golf course saying, welcome home in Ohio. A lot of interesting stuff happening. I don't know, just your. Your macro thoughts on the Lakers as we head into midday July 2nd.
Cameron Dicker
First off, whenever you get new ownership, expect changes. And I think what they're seeing with the lakers and is LeBron being proactive, saying, you know, how's this going to affect me? And he's a guy that is arguably the greatest player of all time, and he's earned the respect to kind of like, carve out his own path, you know, to have a say in trades and free agencies, as he should, as any star player has. So I think for LeBron right now, he's putting fillers out to see where he stands with the Los Angeles Lakers and the new ownership. And they know they got a young star in, Luka Doncic that they can build around, and he's just kind of putting his arms out and flexing his weight. Now, ultimately, when you have LeBron still playing at a high level, we've never seen anything like this before. He's 40 years old. You don't know when Father Time is going to hit. You don't know. And we'll knock on wood here. You don't know when it could be an injury. And they're going to have to find ways to put pieces around LeBron James and Luka Dantes, because while we can still say, like J. Mac, we can still say that pairing is there. You want the right pieces to be there. So I'm intrigued to see what Los Angeles goes out and does. I think Los Angeles as a whole is still a great destination, but they're going to have to find pieces to fit because, you know, my Rockets went out and got Finney Smith, man. So they're going to need a defender, they're going to need a big man. They're going to, you Know they're going to have to figure some things out over there.
Colin Cowherd
Jb yeah, they listen. They stole DFS from the Lakers, which is a good move.
Cameron Dicker
And now he chose to go. He chose to go.
Colin Cowherd
That wasn't a big need for them, though. They didn't need it. They're like 10, 11.
Cameron Dicker
Dylan Brooks. When you lost Dylan Brooks in the way IME likes to play, Finney Smith was atop those boards and he was a huge pickup.
Colin Cowherd
But why they got Tori.
Cameron Dicker
That's why the Rockets went out again. Do not poo poo that that pickup.
Colin Cowherd
That.
Cameron Dicker
That is a good pickup needed.
Colin Cowherd
I'm just upset the Lakers needed him more. Atari Eason. What about his minutes? Where are they going? The Rockets have a lot of guys.
Cameron Dicker
He may wants to get as versatile and as big as he can at those positions. Finney Smith, I would not be surprised if he was a starter during the season. You got to think you lost two. Two guards that started, you know, Jalen and Dillon started the entire season. You know, he can fill in beautifully in that role. He's a selfless guy. He's a hard worker. He defends. He's what he may want. So there was a huge pickup because I know everybody didn't. It's Durant coming in. No big deal. You lost Dylan Brooks. Dillon Brooks was a huge piece to go out. So that's what put any even more on Finney Smith.
Colin Cowherd
Amen. Thompson's their best defender, right? They define on wing defense, are they not?
Cameron Dicker
The reason. The reason the Rockets were so good is because here's the thing, J. Mac. When you can go out and be super aggressive on the ball because you know, if you get two early fouls, somebody picks you up and then the game doesn't get out of hand. Tari Eason could come in right behind Amin. Thompson could come in right behind or start. So the aggression and tone can be set without dictating the game. Before Min Thompson took his huge leap. Dillon Brooks, if he got two fouls, the Rockets struggled. The struggle wasn't last year because if he got two fouls, you came in with another par defender. And that's for what IME in the group would like to do. Finney Smith is important to that aggression in the defense.
Colin Cowherd
All right, we'll wrap up with this. Mike Brown to the Knicks happened within the last two hours. I like the move. We got about a minute. Your thoughts?
Cameron Dicker
Mike Brown. I played for Mike Brown. He's as certified as they get. He got a championship. Excuse me if I'm not Mistaken with the Golden State Warriors. It's a safe pick. It's safe there. I like it. I don't like the way that Tibbs was fired. Clearly you saw that New York didn't have a plan. But Mike Brown is a safe pick and you know he can get the job done. He's as thorough. He's a student of the game and you know what you're getting from him.
Colin Cowherd
Interesting. I have the Knicks in the finals next year against the Rockets. You know, it's a little early for that kind of prediction. You like that?
Cameron Dicker
That's. Everybody's hurt. That same J. Mac. That's just like you.
Colin Cowherd
Everybody's hurt.
Cameron Dicker
Go ahead, bro. Right now.
Colin Cowherd
Safe. The Nick. I don't do safe.

Cameron Dicker
A push up contest.
Colin Cowherd
When you guys were talking about the pull ups, I was laughing so hard over here the entire interview. You know, listen, he's a lot younger than me, but I feel like we could probably have. I told you, I told. Because I had just. I just interviewed him at their golf tournament and I was like, you're gonna love this guy. Great personality. Like he just gets it. It's easy, it's fun. Yeah. I mean, it's just tough for me to envision. Just ask you if you wanted to go work out with. Yeah, I think I'm gonna do. What did you say? I did say yes, but let's keep that off there. So I just have a hard time envisioning an NFL quarterback, Justin Herbert, putting on red contact and going like vampire is like a joke. Yeah. That is so funny. And I just think I like it. They have a good time. It's like. Like easy fun is what it seems like. Yeah. It's almost like I forgot what it's like to be 25 years old. Yeah. Oh, man. Well, different life. Yeah. Yeah, you were. Yeah, Completely different. Damn. All right, listen, great show. Thanks. Landon Donovan, Ryan Hollins, Yovon Buha, obviously. Cameron Dicker, everybody. Have a safe July 4th. We are back in a week for Alex and I. We'll see you then.
Producer
Okay. Have you heard about this last year degree changed the formula for their Cool Rush deodorant and their fans rebelled and wanted the old scent back. And degree listens. That doesn't happen often. They admitted they effed up and they're bringing back the original Cool Rush scent. They're bringing it back and it's exactly how you remember it. Cool, crisp and fresh.
