Now let's get this party started.
Podcast Host
You're listening to FOX Sports Radio. And with that, let's bring on in studio. Love having him. Jordan Schultz, NFL Insiders on speak today at 5 Eastern on FS1. As always, my man, great to see you.
Bloomberg Host
You too, brother.
Podcast Host
So I want to talk about, you know, Caleb Williams. As I said there, he's got more hundred passer ratings than Mahomes and more yards per game than Kyler and Herbert. The coaching search, are they look, are they looking Jordan offense, are they looking Vrabel defense, toughness. Where is the radar here?
Bloomberg Host
So if you think about Caleb Williams this year, he's overcome. Fired head coach, fired offensive coordinator, debacle, late game situations. I start to think about the Bears and I think why not go offense and invest the way we should have six months ago? Remember, not only did Jim Harbaugh want that job, but as I reported six months ago, Kevin Warren squashed it. He basically said, jim Harbaugh, you will not be here. Our relationship is going to prevent that. Okay, so they ended up going with Shane Waldron as the offensive coordinator and they kept Matt Eberfluss. The whole thing was completely screwed up and backwards. They were Chicago, the first team, Colin, to hire an offensive coordinator. Who did they bring in? Waldron. Who did they interview? Cliff Kingsbury, having a great year. Liam Cohen in Tampa, Great year. Zach Robinson, pretty good year with Kirk in Atlanta. If I'm the Chicago Bears, I want to invest in the position that we've invested in more than anything else. Not only did we draft Caleb one, we drafted Keenan Allen, we drafted, we brought in Keenan Allen. We traded for DJ Moore. This is about Caleb and I think about all the success he had at SC on the field when he won the Heisman. I think about Oklahoma, some of the issues he's had over the last month. Colin, he's been arguably the best fourth quarter quarterback. The talent is there. The question we had was whether or not the maturity was there. I think he's done a pretty good job. Yeah, from the press conferences, we haven't heard anything bad. Remember there was a stuff about the dog, the stuff about his pain in nails. Will any of this be an issue?
Podcast Host
No, he's been great.
Bloomberg Host
He really has. And that tells me also if I'm a Bears fan. All we need is the right coach. They have to get it right, but if they do, this is our franchise for the next decade plus. So I'm excited about where Caleb's at. I think he's persevered in a way that's really impressive and I think most importantly is the maturity has been there.
Podcast Host
So Sam Darnold, J. Mac and I get into this, I think they're going to move off him. But if this team ends up like 13 and 4, it's, you know, JJ McCarthy looked good, but he's young. He may not be as athletic as Darnold and he's coming off an injury. What are they going to do if they win the division with Darnold?
Bloomberg Host
So Sam's been great and I know you were really high on him before the year. I wasn't necessarily as high. He's been in the MVP conversation for at least half the season. I think it's going to be extremely difficult for Minnesota to retain him because of the year he's had. In my opinion, he's probably going to garner somewhere along the lines of what BAKER Mayfield got. Three years, 100 million.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Bloomberg Host
Which is probably fair considering his age. He's still pretty young and what he's shown on tape this year. It's also important that he's worked with Kevin O'Connell, whose system has been mirrored a lot across the league. So you can plug and play Sam right away. He's a smart guy, he gets it. I think it's very realistic as well. Even if they win the division, that Sam would walk and that they would have J.J. mcCarthy under that cheap rookie contract coming back from his second knee surgery. He's been doing great apparently. He's head of schedule, I've been told. And then you bring back Daniel Jones, because Daniel Jones went there, as I reported, in large part because of his relationship dating back to the pre draft process with koc. So that relationship is there and then you allow Jones and McCarthy to fight it out for the number one job next, next fall. But I think both of those guys, McCarthy and Jones would be a really good one, two punch because at the very least you'd have a young quarterback under a cheap deal you believe in. He drafted in the first round and then Jones, who also would be inexpensive.
Podcast Host
All right, so Belichick's the best coach on the market. Last year it was Harbaugh went to the Chargers, has turned them around. Also Sean Payton, you know, two years ago was the best coach in the market. He's turned Denver Around. So I guess Bill could do it. What do you hear on Bill?
Bloomberg Host
I think Bill has been very calculated, Colin.
Podcast Host
Yes.
Bloomberg Host
With his media.
Podcast Host
Yes.
Bloomberg Host
It's no coincidence that he bashes the Jets. He hates the Jets.
Podcast Host
Yes.
Bloomberg Host
No love lost between him and Woody Johnson. He doesn't like the Patriots. He bashes them. He knows he's not going to the jets and he knows he's not going back to the past.
Podcast Host
Exactly.
Bloomberg Host
But it's been made clear to me that Bill Belichick still wants to coach. Okay. I don't think anybody really knows what he sees, full control or not. I know it's important to him, but how important, we'll have to find out. There are three teams. I'm going to give you Jacksonville, number one. He would have essentially full operating control there because of the owner in Shotcon. It's a pretty good roster with a quarterback. You think about number two. This is interesting to me. Dallas, Mike McCarthy's, they've won a couple straight. But it's also really important to note that McCarthy does not have a contract after this season.
Podcast Host
Also, Dak's contract is punitive.
Bloomberg Host
Absolutely. And if he go, if Bill were to go to Dallas, let's say they move on from McCarthy. They say, we're not going to bring you back. Bill has a very good relationship with both Stephen and Jerry Jones. So even if he doesn't have the same level of control that he had in Jacksonville, that he would have, he would have enough of a relationship predicated on trust where he could say, I like what you did here. Let's do this differently here. And Bill likes Dak. He likes Dakota. Number three, Tampa Bay. Now, they're tied for first right now, but if they don't make the playoffs and should they move on from Todd Bowles? Belichick was with Jason Light, the Bucs GM in Tampa. And he really liked Baker Mayfield coming out of the draft. In fact, there were rumblings that Bill was going to move up for Baker, but eventually Baker goes one and that became out of the question. But if you think about the Bucs job, Tampa, Dallas and I would even argue Jacksonville, with the right coach, are competitive teams, good rosters. So. And one more note about Dallas. You know, Bill had Lawrence Taylor. He's always said, like, Lawrence Taylor is the best player I've ever seen. Not just defensive. He might be the best player I've ever seen. He could kind of. I could see him wanting to say to Michael Parsons, you're my modern day Lawrence Taylor. I'm going to build this Defense, build this team around you. So there's a lot to like about having Bill Belichick in your building. It has to be the right fit. But I would look at Jacksonville, Tampa and Dallas as potential options.
Podcast Host
So I've made the argument that the Giants, the New York Giants have several components that super bowl teams need to have. Great left tackle, offensive coach, star weapon, edge, rusher, dominant defensive tackle. They need to upgrade the running back room and quarterback. My opinion, I've seen too much of Joe Shane on hbo. Other things, I don't trust him. Where are they going? I think Day ball should be retained.
Bloomberg Host
You like Brian.
Podcast Host
I do. I think again, I like the left tackle. I like neighbors. I like Thibodeaux. I like Dexter Lawrence. There's about five things here I love. Running back, quarterback. Get another weapon.
Bloomberg Host
Yeah.
Podcast Host
Is Daybo going to survive?
Bloomberg Host
So it's been made very clear to me that Brian Dabal's coaching for his job.
Podcast Host
Wow.
Bloomberg Host
Yes. Yes. And I think over the next five weeks, I heard J. Mac, Jet fan. Over the next five weeks, this is going to be determined what happens with Brian. And I would even argue that Joe Shane has to survive the next five weeks. I don't know if he's in the same level of hot seat, but remember there was only a few years ago that John Merrick came out and said Joe Judge is safe. They fired him two weeks later.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Bloomberg Host
Okay. So Brian Dabal is a really good offensive coach. I think we learned that in Buffalo. The problem is they've had very little to no success. And if you're Joe Shane, you've talked a lot about the offensive line and hard knocks. It wasn't just Saquon letting him go. The offensive line stunk this year. And Evan Neal, first round pick, top seven pick, hasn't played.
Podcast Host
He's a mess.
Bloomberg Host
Hasn't played. Kayvon Thibodeau hasn't played a lot. They. It's just, it's a really good job. It's the New York Giants. It's a tempo or they've got pieces. They do. But if you're Joe Shane, not only did you let Saquon walk out the door, but you gave Devin Singletary, your backup running back, 7 million bucks. You gave Drew Lock, your backup quarterback who actually was a number three, five million bucks. You let Xavier McKinney walk out the door. He is second right now in defensive player of the year. Odds leads the NFL with seven picks. The Giants now have 11 straight games. Colin. Without an interception. That's broke. That broke an NFL record. You let Julian Love going free and he was a Pro Bowler last year in Seattle, rock solid. You let Leonard Williams go. You traded him. He was the defensive player of the year, of the week last.
Podcast Host
No, Shane. Shane, to me, you can't retain.
Bloomberg Host
So. But I would argue that Joe and Brian, in many ways, because they both came from Buffalo, are together. So I don't know, realistically, if one goes, can you keep the other? But I do believe, as it's been made clear to me, Brian's coaching for his job and I think Joe needs to survive. The Giants need to be competitive these next five weeks. Without question, for both of them.
Podcast Host
Let's be quick on this one. Then I'll get to the Packers. Bryce Young, I think, has earned another year.
Bloomberg Host
Absolutely. Absolutely. And Colin, when. When Bryce Young was benched, I was told he's going to get another shot. Andy Dalton gets hurt. Bryce comes back. And over the last few weeks, this has been the Bryce Young, number one pick out of Alabama.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Bloomberg Host
The fact that he has resurrected his career that quickly without elite talent.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Bloomberg Host
Tells me all I need to know. I spoke with a defensive coordinator who played him last year and said all you had to do was attack him. He panicked. We're not seeing that panic now. In fact, we're seeing Bryce Young, eyes downfield, very confident, chest puffed out, looks like a number one quarterback. Looks a lot like C.J. stroud did last year.
Podcast Host
Easy thrower, accurate moves. Well, absolutely.
Bloomberg Host
And I give Carolina, Dan Morgan, the gm, a lot of credit for not panicking and giving up on the kid.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Bloomberg Host
They brought him back or they gave him that opportunity. They invested a lot in their offensive line. Robert Hunt and Damian Lewis, they're two guards. They have, they re up with Chuba Hubbard. They have Jonathan Brooks, two young backs. They drafted Leggette, they like him a lot. So if you're the Panthers, I think you know now definitively we have our franchise quarterback. He's a great kid. They love him in that locker room. And most importantly, you have now seen it on the field. This is the Bryce Young of Alabama. This is a definitive cornerstone.
Podcast Host
Yeah. Dan Morgan's going to make some waves. I like him. My guys like him a lot.
Bloomberg Host
Yeah.
Podcast Host
Finally, Packers. I've said this, I feel like they're the best team in the league that can't win a Super Bowl. Am I wrong?
Narrator
Okay.
Bloomberg Host
So I would push back and say, is it because you don't believe in the defense, the coaches, they're just a bit young.
Podcast Host
Whereas the Eagles, the Lions, the Chiefs and The Bills have more elite players in their prime. I feel like all their best players are moving.
Bloomberg Host
So you feel like Green Bay is maybe Detroit last year?
Podcast Host
Yes.
Bloomberg Host
They're a year away.
Podcast Host
Yep.
Bloomberg Host
Okay, so that's. That's reasonable. I'd say the counter to that is they started really slow and Jordan Love started really. So last year, same with this year. He gets hurt. Over the last three weeks, Jordan Love is number one in every major statistical category, including EPA per play and touchdown percentage. So he's playing. Jordan Love over the last few weeks is the best quarterback in football.
Podcast Host
Yep. He was last year at the end.
Bloomberg Host
Of the year, and they brought. The Josh Jacobs move was tremendous. The Xavier McKinney move was tremendous.
Podcast Host
Yeah. Well, the packers have always been so.
Bloomberg Host
Good with personnel and they really nailed it this year. The defense has been good. Not great, but good. So I look at Green Bay and I think this team's peaking at the right time.
Podcast Host
Yes.
Bloomberg Host
They have a quarterback who is awesome.
Podcast Host
He's on a heater.
Bloomberg Host
He's on a heater playing with a.
Podcast Host
Great deal of confidence.
Bloomberg Host
And listen, I haven't been like over the last couple years, I've said, well, Matt LaFleur could have done this, could have done that. Matt LaFleur is undoubtedly one of the five best coaches in football right now.
Podcast Host
No. And you know what? They become a power run team at times.
Bloomberg Host
And that's the Josh Jacobs effect.
Podcast Host
Yes. And that's what's really important. This is what Buffalo always missed. It's like it starts snowing. Can you. Baltimore can power run, Philadelphia can, Detroit can. Buffalo can. Now Green Bay can.
Bloomberg Host
Absolutely.
Podcast Host
Five teams in this league. Isaiah Pacheco gives Kansas City a chance to do that.
Bloomberg Host
Yeah. And if you think about, if you think about Green Bay, the home field advantage, to your point about Buffalo, it's similar. Cold, nasty. You don't want to tackle Josh Jones or Josh Jacobs is that type of running back. He gets stronger. He's. He has that kind of Derrick Henry Saquon element where third, fourth quarter, you don't want to tackle him, particularly in the cold. So if Green Bay can somehow get the number one or number two seed, then they really are in a position of strength come. Come playoff time. I like the team. I hear what you're saying. They might be a year away.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Bloomberg Host
But because of the quarterback and the head coach, I do believe you are.
Podcast Host
Not a year away. You crushing it. And we love having you in studio, buddy. Jordan Schultz, by the way, one of our favorite players, Deion Dawkins, before the end of the show. Do you know Dion?
Bloomberg Host
Love Dion. In fact, I was here when he was here last summer. I think it was well with J. Mac seat when J. Mac. I think J. Mac was in the Bahamas. Caribbean?
Podcast Host
Yeah, something like that.
Bloomberg Host
And I love Dion. Love me some Deion Dawkins.
Podcast Host

Deon talking to the Buffalo Bills Coming up first, though, J. Mac with the news. No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the Herdline news.
Colin Cowherd
Let's start with the AFC East. We're doing Deon Dawkins soon, but let's start with the Dolphins, who are still in the play five and seven. They're going to need to catch a couple breaks to catch Denver for the final wild card spot. Yeah, it didn't help the two of miss four games with the concussion and he believes he's responsible for where Miami is at in the playoff race.
Jack Thomas
Nobody else will say it but me, and I feel like this has a.

Bloomberg Host

Jack Thomas
To that as well and still don't.
Bloomberg Host
Want to do that to my guys. Again.
Podcast Host
He's always good at the podium. Right now. J. Mac, it's Mahomes, Josh Allen, Russell Wilson, C.J. stroud in the playoffs with Lamar, Bo Nix and Justin Herbert on the periphery.
Colin Cowherd
Let's not put your guy Bo Nick, Knicks yet in there.
Podcast Host
They've got that Colts game at home. Aren't you excited about We've got another great franchise quarterback. Caleb's a hit. Jaden's a hit. Bo's a hit. Who?
Colin Cowherd
Anthony Richardson's a franchise quarterback.
Podcast Host
No, no, no. I'm saying this year we have three hits minimum.
Colin Cowherd
Wait, Bo Nicks is a hit? We're putting him there already?
Podcast Host
He's one of the best fourth quarter quarterbacks in the league right now. You don't think Bo Nick's a franchise?
Colin Cowherd
It's at a good stretch. It's looking promising. You like to just crown people instantly.
Bloomberg Host
Crown them.
Colin Cowherd
Bo Nick's franchise guy dud after what, 13?
Podcast Host
You had Brock Purdy in Canton by week four.
Colin Cowherd
That was his, like, his third season or something. Come on.
Podcast Host
Okay, I think Bo Nicks is a hit.
Colin Cowherd
He looked very good. Him and Peyton are clicking. I'm happy for them.
Podcast Host
Second show, you were looking for a raise. I'm just saying we're week 14.
Colin Cowherd
So anyway, do you think Miami's got a shot to catch Denver?
Podcast Host
No, no.
Colin Cowherd
I can't wait for. Do you want to go to Denver's first playoff game, wherever it is, Do a live stream?
Podcast Host
I would love to if I was invited.
Colin Cowherd
Why don't we do the show from there? We'll go away Friday.
Podcast Host
You can't just take our show somewhere. It costs money.
Colin Cowherd
Fox is rolling. They're swimming in money.
Podcast Host
Come on. Jeez.
Colin Cowherd
All right, fine. Let's go to the next story. And it's not Kirk Cousins getting bench story. It's a Kirk Cousins revenge game story. Colin forgot he was in Minnesota forever, and now he's returning there with Atlanta. Obviously it's been a rough three weeks for Kirk, but he spoke about his mindset entering week 14. I think you just kind of go through the week, go through your process. You understand, you know, it's like a familiar place. But at the same time, I've never. It's happened. When I played in Washington for the first time back, I had no idea where the away locker room was. I had never been in there. There's certainly some unique, unique experiences there. But at the end of the day, you're there to go play a football game and go play your best and win. And that's where your focus is.
Podcast Host
Well, hold on, Kirk, because I picked you to win the division, but I think Baker right now is playing pretty elite football.
Colin Cowherd
Kirk has an aw shucks nature about him at the podium where he's like, I didn't know where the away room is after six years, you know, and you that. I think that's kind of the Real Kirk Cousins. There's no putting on airs when he gets to the podium.
Bloomberg Host
He's a nice dude.
Podcast Host
Nice guy.
Bloomberg Host
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
I respect a lot.
Podcast Host
A lot of class.
Colin Cowherd
This line has kept going up. Now five's kind of a dead number in NFL gambling, but it was five, five and a half. Now six.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Is that. Is that a little bit too much? Just because Atlanta's on a bit of a losing streak here.
Podcast Host
I don't know what to make. Greg Cosell said this an hour. I don't know what to make of what I'm watching. I've never seen. I've watched Kirk for 10 years. I mean, it's like. Like when Mike Tyson couldn't punch, you were like, yeah, he lost half his blood, you know, five months ago, and he's, you know, 60 years old. I'm watching Kirk Cousins six weeks ago, seven weeks ago. He's lighting the world up. And now it's like he's lost nine miles an hour off his fastball. Yeah. That one interception off the sideline, it was insane. You're like, that was brutal.
Colin Cowherd
They were in the end zone, just killed. Because I was on Atlanta last week and I just. I was. Why did I do this? You've said all season you refuse to touch.
Podcast Host
No, no. I have lost more money on the Atlanta Falcons than any sports team ever in the history of sports. Honestly.
Colin Cowherd
Another kicker stinks.
Jon Stewart
Cool.
Colin Cowherd
Mr. Chase. I know I was. So I'm done with Atlanta. If anything, Minnesota or pass for me, I don't know. Good luck to Kirk Cousins. Final story. Colin, Is college football national signing day was yesterday. The NIL obviously, was a major factor with players chasing that bag. LSU finished with a top 10 recruiting class. But Brian Kelly spoke to what he sees as NIL's negative impact on the sport.
Jack Thomas
It's not just about finding the right fit academically. It's not just about finding the right fit where you can develop holistically and graduate and play for a championship. It's about what, the most money I can get. And that's unfortunate, but it's the world we live in.
Podcast Host
Yeah. There's a lot of it.
Colin Cowherd
It's a bigger discussion to be had. But he's not wrong, Colin.
Podcast Host
No, he's not listening. It's just the reality of what. You know, there's so many cool things about college football right now. I like the nil and I like the transfer portal. I like the playoff. I feel like there needs to be guardrails on the portal.
Colin Cowherd
And nil, then the question is, like, what Kind of guardrails because you wave $250,000 in front of an 18 year old kid, they're gonna be like, oh my gosh, give me that. They're not thinking long term, they're thinking short term.
Jack Thomas
Right.
Colin Cowherd
I don't know how you get them to see long term. I don't want to say it's a parent thing, but the parent has to over the course of many years say like, listen, this is just not going to be a good decision and these kids are just going after big money and then the next year they're in the, in the portal again. You know, it's. What kind of guardrails do you want to put in?
Podcast Host
Well, I think there should be times you can transfer and times you can't. Even the NFL has that. I think, I think there should be a cap per team. Like every sport except baseball is a salary cap. You should have like a cap like no college team can spend more than, you know, whatever the number is. So you don't want Ohio State spending 28 and Purdue spending a million. Then it's the Pirates and the Dodgers.
Colin Cowherd
Isn't that where we have been for 30 years? In college football?
Podcast Host
Yes, but in the facility upgrades, Purdue's facilities aren't that much worse than Wisconsin's or Michigan's. Like facilities. People were willing to put money in facilities because you could put the name on it. The Johnson family for the Golden Gophers. Right. So there was something. You'd find a rich guy, he'd get his name on the building. And so a middle of the pack school could have tremendous facilities. This is like you're asking. The rich are expanding and there's nothing. The facilities war was healthier because everybody, UCLA is not a rich program in terms of athletics. They have beautiful facilities. Oregon State's got beautiful facilities. But Oregon State can't compete with Oregon. If it's just here's 22 million a year from a rich booster, they can't compete. So I think if you did a cap, and by the way, it's the.
Colin Cowherd
Kind of cap to circumvent that cap anyway. Remember you couldn't pay players. And there was the bag. The bad guys in the SEC just show it up.
Podcast Host
You can also.
Colin Cowherd
It's always going to happen.
Podcast Host
I mean, well, it's never going to be perfect.
Bloomberg Host
Never.
Podcast Host
Let's not be idealistic. But I, but I think when it just comes down to who's got the richest boosters, you have a chance to really have a separation. That's not healthy. There Was always like a facility war. And Texas had better ones than Texas Tech. But everybody could go to two boosters. You put a name in the building and you'd have. I went to very average schools with gorgeous facilities. Like, right now, what Ohio State spends and what UCLA spends, the gap is. I mean, I'm not kidding you. It's a tricycle to a Maserati. It's not competitive.
Colin Cowherd
I don't know how you convince some kids, but, like, hey, listen, I have no ties to Iowa, but if you look at the Iowa football program, they put a ton of guys in the NFL. They set you up for success. Not everybody else is doing that around the country. They just want to win now and win titles. So I think people gotta think long term. But as a teenager, I wasn't thinking long term. I was thinking, oh, I don't blame the kids.
Podcast Host
I don't blame the kids for taking the money. That's why we have to set up a system. You know, everybody has to be governed. You can't be president until this age. You can't drive until this age. You can't rent a car until this age. There's all sorts of borders on, you know, and boundaries and ceilings on stuff for younger people. I don't think you should be buying high school football players. I actually think you shouldn't be able to pay anybody until they're in the program for six months. I don't think you should be able to buy high school play. I think to make money in the nil, you have to be in a program and have six and, like, have a semester or a quarter finished in the school academically.
Colin Cowherd
So the contract is written, but you don't get the money until.
Podcast Host
No, it gets all these money bad guys out of high school.
Colin Cowherd
Okay, well, what happened then? You get like. The guy goes there, he gets injured in the third practice. He's out for two months. Oh, we can't pay you now.
Podcast Host
You're injured. That's right. That's right. That's right. What? That's called life.
Colin Cowherd
I came here under the pretense you're.
Podcast Host
Going to a lot of pretenses. Pretense? A lot of pretenses don't work out.

All right, one of my favorite guys, Dion Dawkins, the all pro left tackle for the Buffalo Bills. They've had a lot of movement in the last couple of years, but this is the best version of Buffalo. James Cook, Dalton Kincaid, now with Dawson Knox, Dion Dawkins, Amari Cooper. Now they've got the full component to me. And he is joining us now live from the Bill's facility. So, you know, it's interesting, I said this on the air when I was watching this game. I felt like you guys were having fun. You all look like you were 8 year old kids on the first snowfall of the year. And you guys were like, let's have some fun. That's what it felt like to me. Like you, you guys really seized the weather in the moment. Did it feel like that?
Jack Thomas
Yes, it felt like it felt like we was playing in our backyards or if we were playing in Josh's yard, you know, like it just felt like we all just came to a place and just said, all right, let's get the ball from here to here and let's have a little bit of fun doing it. It was definitely a unique experience. This is the second time that I've ever played in, like a real, real snow game where, like, the snow is actually, like, effective. Like, where, like, they gotta blow the lines and we can't see the sidelines unless, but they blow it. It was a unique, unique day for in Buffalo, but it was definitely fun.
Podcast Host
Yep, you had your Oakleys on there. So let me ask you this. You've only allowed 13 sacks this year. And that's not me, the whole line. That's what I'm saying. That's the lowest in the NFL by far. And my take is it's strange because you're a team that you got a quarterback that's a big target, People blitz you because the way to beat Buffalo is disrupt Josh Allen. So obviously you're fine, but there's a lot of movement. How is the cohesion gotten so good so fast? Explain that to me in the audience.
Jack Thomas
Yeah, so there's. There's a beautiful thing called a good coach. You know, everything stems from a good coach. Players in the NFL, we're all players, we're all professional players. And everybody is at a level of being some type of good to a professional level to be able to play in this league. But when you have a coach like Cromer, that allows his players to be who they truly are, and he coaches each one of his players differently. Like, he doesn't coach me. Like how he coaches Spencer and he doesn't coach Spencer. Like how he coaches Connor and Sybo and Dave. Like, everybody has their pros, everyone has their weaknesses. And Cromer does a good job of maximizing our pros and limiting our weaknesses and making those things disappear. And that's, that's what you're seeing. Even, even, like our practice squad guys, they're here and they're getting good very, very fast. And that's a hard reflection of one. It stems from Coach McDermott, but directly our assistant coach Austin, our third assistant coach Mills, and Cromer, our head o line coach, he does a good job of allowing us to be who we truly are. And that's unique. Different players.
Podcast Host
So Deon Dawkins joining us, eighth season in the NFL, three time Pro Bowler. And you know, Julian Edelman told me once this about the Patriots dynasty. He goes, even though it was me and Gronk and Belichick and Brady, every team had a Different personality. And about mid October, you'd be like, oh, this team. This is grittier. This one's a little louder, you know, And I always thought that was fascinating. I'm like, well, the core players are all here. Well, your core players are mostly all here. Tell me the vibe today and last year at this time. What is the vibe? Has it changed this year?
Jack Thomas
Man, if I could give you one word to describe the vibe of the Buffalo Bills. We are uniquely our self while being lit. And that's not one word. I believe it's a sentence. But we're just ourself, you know, like, the vibe is just self. Everybody is a true version of who they are. Like, Coop is not a big celebrator. Coop is not going to do a touchdown dance, right? Our guy Mac Mack is going to walk in the game without shoes on. Deion is going to do something different. He might put some Oakley shades on. You know, Keon is going to wear his jewelry and he's going to catch magnificent plays. Khalil, he's going to catch across the middle and. And get yards after catch while being his true self. And Josh is just going to be that MVP guy. But we're literally ourself is, I would say, but in a confidence level of humble. Like, we're humble. We're not like, oh, we're the big dog.
Questlove
Da, da, da, da.
Jack Thomas
No, we are just uniquely who we are. And we're playing Buffalo Bills ball. And late in a season when bodies start to hurt, you have to depend on your big guys. And for our coaches, they lean on us as the big guys, and we know where our job is and we have to win. We have to, you know, like, we get to a point every year, and we need to continue to have the pressure on the big boys up front, which is what we've been doing all year. Which is why I'm blessed and honored to say humbly that Josh is the least sacked quarterback in the NFL.
Podcast Host
Yeah, it's. You know, it is. I think I've asked you this before. Josh Allen's like a superstar like you. You're going to tell your grandkids in 20 years, you're like, it's like playing with Dan Marino. You'd be like, you play with Josh Allen. You're like, played with him. I protected him. Right, right, right. I was a guy.
Jack Thomas
I protect that guy. Yeah, like. Like, I protect Dwayne Johnson.
Bloomberg Host
That's who Josh is.
Jack Thomas
To me, Josh is the Rock. Dwayne Johnson. Right. I'm drifting cars and Fast and furious. I'm protecting them. This is my dog. This is Dom the Rock. Dwayne Johnson. It's the crew man.
Podcast Host
Does he ever. When you're in your meetings, because he can't see everything. Have you ever been in a meeting after a game and Josh Allen sees you pancake a guy that he didn't know happened during the game and in the meeting? Tell me about that. Like, what are those meetings like? Cause he can't watch every little movement you make.
Bloomberg Host
Yeah.
Jack Thomas
So I would say. But the more cool thing is Josh will be like, watching film, and he'll send you a clip. Like, okay, doc. Like, okay. LT1. And it'll just be like, all right, my guy is watching film. He sees what the guys are doing. And then if it's in meeting where coach will put it up or one of the coordinators or even Cromer will put up a clip, Josh will, like, literally, like, just turn around and give us a little clap and tip his head, and that's all we need. You know, you see us, you know that we are working big boys. We get our love from our quarterbacks and our running backs, and we appreciate it. But he turns around because he sits in the front and he just gives a little head nod with a little clap, and, you know, it's kind of like, give me three claps and a Ric Flair or two claps and a Ric Flair. So clap, clap. Whoa.
Podcast Host
Well, you're head. You're heading to LA against the Rams. You've had a remarkable season. I've said this before. I think America wants to see the Bills and the Lions play, and we only have a minute left. But I did think the way you beat Kansas City was different this time. I thought it was different.
Jack Thomas
It was. It. It was a good battle. It was a good battle. And we consistently have in good battles every year. They beat us. We beat them. They beat us. They beat us twice. Sometimes we beat them once and we lose the second one, and sometimes vice versa. But it's. It's just good on good. They are a great team. They show it every year consistently. And we're honored to. To be able to stand head to head and play at a high level against those. Against those chief guys.
Podcast Host
Yeah. I mean, it's really become, in my opinion, as good a rivalry. It's got a Manning Brady feel to it. It really does. It's got a Merino Elway feel to it. It's got a. I mean, it's. You don't get many of those, you know, you're in the middle of it, man. You're in the middle of history right now. And the key is winning that game in January. Deion Dawkins, safe travels, my man. Thanks for coming on the show.
Jack Thomas
Yes, sir. Always, man. Much love. You're my dog. I appreciate you. It's an honor, as always. Much love.
Podcast Host
Deion Dawkins. A great one and going to end up eighth season, three time Pro Bowler. That is amazing when you can get, I mean this league is really get the quarterback right, get the left tackle right, find your coach and an edge rusher. If you can check those four boxes, it's hard to be bad. Coach, quarterback, somebody protecting the quarterback and somebody that gets the quarterback on your team. That like there's four or five boxes in the league you gotta check. That's why I keep saying Denver's real. Sean Payton, Bo Nicks, Garrett Bowles, left tackle, and the pass rusher, number 15, Nick Bonito. Now, now, obviously in 2024 football, you gotta give a guy a weapon. It'd be nice to have two, one in the backfield, one out wide. But it's like it to me. I look at Denver and people are like, I don't know. Now obviously Bo Nicks isn't Josh Allen, but I, you know, in Denver I got coach, left tackle, quarterback, weapon, edge, rusher by next year. When Bo Nix has 25 games, 30 games under his belt by the end of next year, then I think he become a Super bowl team. And I think Buffalo's in that, Detroit's in that, Philadelphia's in that. Baltimore, Kansas City, very small number of teams that are in that. Deion Dawkins stopping by today. Jordan Schultz hit it out of the park. Greg Cosell, as always tonight, Lions are three to four point favorite over Green Bay. I think Green Bay plays really well. I think Detroit's all banged up, especially on the D line. I think in the box, Green Bay has become a power run team. I think Green Bay is going to run the ball 40 times. I think Green Bay, if there's an upset this week, and I don't really consider divisional field goal underdogs upsets, but I think Green Bay's mission is keep the Lions O line off the field. Power run, eat the clock. I think Green Bay upsets the Lions tonight.
Colin Cowherd
Now, we thought that, both of us thought that when the Colts hosted, but.
Podcast Host
This is not the Colts. Jordan loves, not Anthony Richardson. Jordan love is, let's see.
Colin Cowherd
I'm optimistic, but I also know the, the Lions are the best covering the spread team the last three years in the NFL.
Podcast Host
I'm going. I'm going to go 28, 27 Packers, 21, 20 Packers. We both like Green Bay. How about that?
Colin Cowherd
Not a great sign.

The Herd with Colin Cowherd – Hour 3: NFL Headlines
Release Date: December 5, 2024
Host: Colin Cowherd
Guest: Jordan Schultz, NFL Insider
In the third hour of "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," host Colin Cowherd engages in a comprehensive discussion with NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. The conversation delves into the latest NFL headlines, team performances, coaching dynamics, and emerging talents shaping the league's landscape.
Timestamp: [03:10]
Cowherd opens the discussion by spotlighting quarterback Caleb Williams, highlighting his impressive statistics surpassing renowned players like Patrick Mahomes. Schultz attributes Williams' success to his resilience in overcoming coaching upheavals within the Chicago Bears.
Quote:
"If they do, this is our franchise for the next decade plus. So I'm excited about where Caleb's at."
— Jordan Schultz [05:04]
Schultz criticizes the Bears' management decisions, particularly the failure to invest in the offensive coordinator position timely. He emphasizes the importance of securing a coach who can harness Williams' potential, suggesting that with the right leadership, the Bears could solidify their future.
Timestamp: [05:23]
The conversation shifts to the Bears' quarterback situation, comparing the veteran Sam Darnold with the emerging J.J. McCarthy. Schultz speculates on the likelihood of the Bears moving forward with Darnold despite a strong season performance, projecting a potential lucrative contract similar to BAKER Mayfield’s.
Quote:
"Even if they win the division, that Sam would walk and that they would have J.J. mcCarthy under that cheap rookie contract coming back from his second knee surgery."
— Jordan Schultz [06:06]
Schultz advocates for retaining McCarthy as a strategic move, ensuring the Bears have a young, promising quarterback under a manageable contract, thereby setting the stage for future success.
Timestamp: [07:05]
Colin Cowherd raises the topic of legendary coach Bill Belichick, discussing his potential next move in the NFL coaching market. Schultz analyzes Belichick's possible destinations—Jacksonville, Dallas, and Tampa Bay—evaluating each team's compatibility with Belichick’s coaching philosophy and legacy.
Quote:
"But it's been made clear to me that Bill Belichick still wants to coach."
— Jordan Schultz [07:28]
Schultz underscores Belichick’s desire to continue coaching and assesses the strategic fit for Belichick in teams with robust rosters and the capacity to leverage his expertise, particularly highlighting Jacksonville and Dallas as top contenders.
Timestamp: [09:37]
The discussion transitions to the New York Giants, focusing on head coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Joe Judge. Schultz critiques the Giants' management decisions, including the release of key players and the performance issues plaguing the team.
Quote:
"But I would argue that Joe and Brian, in many ways, because they both came from Buffalo, are together. So I don't know, realistically, if one goes, can you keep the other?"
— Jordan Schultz [11:51]
Schultz expresses skepticism about the Giants retaining Daboll and Judge amidst declining performance, suggesting that significant coaching changes may be imminent unless the team demonstrates competitive improvements in the remaining weeks.
Timestamp: [12:13]
Bryce Young’s remarkable turnaround with the Carolina Panthers garners attention. Schultz praises Young’s ability to regain form after being benched, crediting the Panthers’ management and offensive line for providing the necessary support.
Quote:
"Dan Morgan's going to make some waves. I like him. My guys like him a lot."
— Jordan Schultz [13:37]
Schultz highlights Young as a cornerstone for the Panthers, emphasizing his confidence and on-field performance as indicators of his potential to lead the team successfully.
Timestamp: [13:41]
Addressing the Green Bay Packers, Schultz counters the perspective that the team is underperforming by highlighting their recent surge in performance metrics and the strategic acquisitions that have fortified their roster.
Quote:
"And I hear what you're saying. They might be a year away. But because of the quarterback and the head coach, I do believe you are."
— Jordan Schultz [15:57]
Schultz asserts that the Packers are peaking at the right time, with quarterback Jordan Love and head coach Matt LaFleur leading the team towards a strong playoff position, challenging the notion that they are merely a perennial contender without a Super Bowl victory.
Timestamp: [24:25]
The conversation shifts to the broader landscape of college football, particularly focusing on National Signing Day and the implications of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) regulations. Schultz and Cowherd debate the long-term impacts of NIL on player decisions and the competitive balance among college programs.
Quote:
"I don't know how you convince some kids, but, like, hey, listen, I have no ties to Iowa, but if you look at the Iowa football program, they put a ton of guys in the NFL."
— Jordan Schultz [28:29]
Schultz emphasizes the necessity for structured guardrails within the NIL framework to ensure that players make informed, long-term decisions benefiting their athletic and academic futures, rather than being swayed solely by immediate financial gains.
Timestamp: [34:18]
In a standout segment, Deon Dawkins, the Buffalo Bills’ esteemed edge rusher, joins the show to discuss the team’s cohesive dynamics and defensive prowess. Dawkins attributes the Bills' success to effective coaching and the players' ability to perform authentically on the field.
Quote:
"We are uniquely ourselves while being lit. And that's not one word. I believe it's a sentence."
— Deon Dawkins [39:30]
Dawkins highlights the harmonious blend of individual personalities and team strategies that have culminated in the Bills’ formidable defense, particularly noting their minimal sack allowance as a testament to their cohesion and discipline.
Quote:
"This is my dog. This is Dom the Rock. Dwayne Johnson."
— Deon Dawkins [40:27]
Dawkins affectionately compares his relationship with quarterback Josh Allen to that of a protector, underscoring the trust and synergy between them that has been pivotal in the Bills' defensive strategies.
Timestamp: [44:03]
As the episode nears its conclusion, Cowherd and Schultz engage in a predictive analysis of the Packers versus Lions game. Schultz expresses confidence in the Packers’ strategic run game and quarterback performance, forecasting a Packers victory.
Quote:
"I think Green Bay upsets the Lions tonight."
— Jordan Schultz [45:29]
The hosts anticipate a strategic battle where the Packers’ power run game and disciplined offensive line will dominate, leading to a triumphant outcome for Green Bay.
Colin Cowherd and Jordan Schultz wrap up the episode with final thoughts on the NFL landscape, emphasizing the importance of strategic leadership, player development, and cohesive team dynamics in shaping successful franchises. The discussion provides listeners with insightful analysis and projections, reinforcing "The Herd’s" reputation as a go-to source for authoritative NFL commentary.
