You want to genuinely feel like the woman you're with desires you, the job you're at, values your work, you know, your family members appreciate what you give back to the family. There's like snow on the ground and Aaron Rodgers and I, we're around the same age. You hit 40. I don't care what you say. I, I get when people say, I like the seasons. Of course, you like a little fall, changing of the leaves. You like, oh, spring, oh, baseball's here.

Well, make it clear, we live in la. Now we're here visiting. I barely miss my family, let alone the seasons. I miss pizza more than I miss the season.

Listen, I always tell people when. You know, because it's a common question. Rich, you live in la, you're from New York. What do you miss? And I say, listen, I'll be honest. I missed my family and food. New York has better food. And I miss the vibe of the people, east coast people. I like their honesty, I like their how they act.

You and Rogers may be around the same age, but you're not in the same income bracket.

So whatever hassles and hops he has to deal with when it comes to cold weather and snow, you think he's out there shoveling it?

So my mom starts talking about Zach Levi, and then Rich jumped in and started talking about, well, his mom had the hots for somebody growing up. So that made us think of, you know, those. Are there weird athletes that your mom always talks about?

It's really what they're saying.

Yeah, yeah. It's like, yeah, I think he's handsome.

Tell us about Marianne.

So my mom is a big Raiders fan. So, Danny G. And Ryan, you would get along with my mom? Well, in fact, Danny G was so kind, when my mom visited la, he gave her a bobblehead of a very particular athlete. Because as a kid, my mom had such a crush on Jim Plunkett that she named my brother James.

[Dallas Goddard]

Must have been story. Must have been that dimple chin.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah. But I don't know. Maybe. Maybe it's Jimmy's real dad.

[Steve Covino]

I'm like Jim Plunkett. So, Danny G. Thank you. Danny gave my mom a Jim Punk at bobblehead, and she's like, richie, I have it on my dresser. I'm like, all right, relax.

[Rich Davis]

But you know what? That. That goes to show you the importance of certain players, too, because she's been a lifelong fan since.

[Steve Covino]

Right.

[Rich Davis]

So it goes back to the Travis Kelce thing, where so many young women are a fan of him because of the Swifty fandom and everything else.

[Steve Covino]

Yeah.

[Rich Davis]

So to get rid of him is counterproductive in a lot of ways.

When you hear your mom talk about, like, oh, they thought an athlete was handsome, it does feel weird, but it's also very funny. Like, Right. Like a year ago, as a Raiders fan, he did nothing for your team, Danny. But to quote my mom, Jimmy Garoppolo is the best Raiders quarterback since Jim Plunkett. As far as looks go, you have.

[Rich Davis]

To be like, yeah, mom, you need.

[Dallas Goddard]

To stop a low.

[Rich Davis]

Stop a low with that. You're freaking me out. So again, we open it up to you just for fun. Eight, seven, seven, four, the herd. Eight, seven, seven, 4, 8, 4, 3, 4, 3, 7. Everybody knows that. Rich tells this story about Jim Plunkett, and I'm like, mom, curious. Name some athletes you thought were handsome growing up. And it's so funny because the first one she says, kind of looks like my dad, right?

She goes, your mom has a type?

Yeah, my mom has a type. She goes, I always thought Dennis Eckersley was really handsome. And my dad kind of looks like a mix of Yanni and ravishing Rick Rude and the egg. Like Dennis Eckersley.

That's older. Your mom likes a mullet and a mustache.

[Rich Davis]

My dad like, yeah, my mom likes a mullet in a mustache.

[Dallas Goddard]

She has a type.

Dennis Eckersley was handsome. So funny. I said, who else? She goes, doug Flutie. I was like, yeah, Doug Flutie. You know what? We saw him at the Super Bowl. He has what I believe Colin Cowherd invented. He has what they call quarterback face, right? Like a quarterback face. Doug Flutie, for sure. He's one of those guys. And she goes, dan Marino was really handsome.

And I'm like, you know what? He. That was. Dan Marino was the guy that was in commercials. He was an Ace Ventura. A lot of moms were had the hots for Daniel.

[Rich Davis]

She said, you, you. You. I think, missed this one. She goes, and I always thought Freddie Freeman was kind of cute. I'm like, yeah, gross, mom.

[Steve Covino]

You like.

So basically, you like Biff Tannen. You like Biff from Back to the Future.

He hasn't looked like that since his younger years with the Braves.

Yeah, I don't like as a Yankees fan. I'm like, yeah, I don't want to hear about it. Anyway.

So anyway, those are the ones my mom said. But it is kind of funny to hear Danny G. What would your mom say about that?

The last time I heard my mom say something uncomfortable about an athlete like that was Tim Tebow.

[Rich Davis]

Moms love Tebow. He seems like such a nice guy.

[Steve Covino]

He's got morals and he's and he's a handsome enough fellow.

[Rich Davis]

You know what else my mom said too? She goes and cheater. Of course. Like it was obvious. Yeah, but that. Just a funny random thing.

[Steve Covino]

Just a dumb thought that you. If you've never thought about it. Now we put that uncomfortable thought in your head as we get to the herd line news. Let's go.

[Rich Davis]

No, no, no. Turn on the news.

This is the herd line news. All right, fellas, caught me there. Hang on one second.

Yeah.

Well, you were asking me about my mom and I didn't have my laptop open. Here we go. All right, since you are both fake hockey fans, we're going to start with the NBA sports media was very critical of LeBron just a couple of nights ago because he missed those two threes at the end of the H. But just one game later, Laker head coach JJ Redick had something to say. After 40 year old LeBron dropped 40 big points to lead LA to a 110, 102 win over the Blazers. Reddick said he really just defies anything that's normal. And not just the physical feats in the plays, it's the mentality. He's a billionaire, yet he's playing on the second night of a back to back at 40 after 22 years with every frickin record and every accolade. It's like he's just amazing to coach. He sets the standard for how you're supposed to approach this craft.

[Rich Davis]

Did he also say he had the. The Riz he was. Didn't he say something about him being the Rizzler and everyone's glazing him and everything else?

[Steve Covino]

Let me tell you, LeBron is doing stuff that no one has done at that age. I've said it before and I think we're gonna.

[Rich Davis]

And I have to admit, he's a skibidi Rizzly bear.

[Steve Covino]

You know what you got to think about, Danny G. You got to think about how when we were, when you're younger, you can't really assess someone or really appreciate them sometimes until they hang it up. They say that a lot about politicians and presidents. Like, you know, you may look back and say, oh, maybe they were better or worse than we thought. I think you could say that about athletes sometimes. And I think when LeBron officially hangs it up in a couple years or whatever that time comes, I think we're going to look back and there will be people that say, you know what, maybe I didn't appreciate him as much as I should have because I get it. It's fun to make fun of LeBron. All the flopping and oh, he maybe me, bron, everyone. Some people think he's about himself, but I think when we look back one day, I think he's going to have more of a favorable view for most people.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah. When all's written, of course.

[Steve Covino]

I think it's easy to tease him here and there when he's in the game. But looking back, star in every way.

[Dallas Goddard]

Name name one basketball player who just is loved by everybody because it has a big personality. Maybe like shaq. Imagine if LeBron was loved like that along with this play. Legendary play on the court.

[Steve Covino]

And I also want to point out LeBron for the most part, in a world of social Media, nobody loves LeBron.

[Rich Davis]

The way they love Shaq.

[Steve Covino]

That is true. Shaq.

[Rich Davis]

Shaq Blackafee, Start my own podcast. I think that it's gonna be better than your podcast.

[Steve Covino]

I think that we also take for granted that LeBron plays in a day of social media where there are guys, we glorify the Michael Jordans and all the 80s and 90s players. Barkley and where I think if they were under the social media microscope, they would have hit some obstacles that they avoided. Like, you know how you ask, like maybe some pop stars and rock stars of the 80s and they're like, thank God there wasn't social media. I think a lot of those NBA players would say thank God there wasn't social media. So I think what LeBron is doing as, as a man is even more impressive as a father and as a dad.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah.

[Steve Covino]

And you know what? Think about that. Some of the criticism is that what he loves his kids so much and he does everything to try to get him to his full potential.

[Dallas Goddard]

I love my kids too. And I was a rap star.

[Rich Davis]

Fooshnikins and I was a movie star. And so that's lots of icy hot.

[Dallas Goddard]

All right, thank you. Thank you. Broke shack. I will move on here. Both you traders have ordered this team Canada jersey today. I'm sure Nathan McKinnon, he was named MVP last night in the Nation's face off. McKinnon scored three goals in the three game round robin starting with Canada's 43 win over Sweden. He then added two goals in a 53 victory over Finland in Canada's third game, which of course sent them into the final versus our US team. Well deserved honor for McKinnon who got Canada off to great early starts. Your guys thoughts on the mvp?

[Rich Davis]

No, man, I thought the whole thing was great. I thought the Whole thing was fitting. The mvp, great choice. I also thought it was huge that Connor McDavid was the guy to win the game. You know, the four nations title in overtime. It was perfect. It was a movie, I'm telling you. We were on the edge of our seat. We're obviously pulling for the usa. But I also thought it was fitting that Canada won. I mean, when you think of hockey, you think of Canada.

[Steve Covino]

But also there was a sense of.

[Rich Davis]

And I think it sets it up for next time. Like, yo, next time it's gonna be great.

[Steve Covino]

If you're trying to highlight your sport, it would be like the NBA doing some huge international showcase. You know, All Star level. Wouldn't you want Steph or LeBron or KD or Giannis or someone like that to make the winning shot? Like, you know, when your star is the guy that does it, it just, you know, I think it's good for the game. And you know what, Danny, I gotta ask you, being the big NBA guy, you know, the baseball All Star game, believe it or not, and the Home Run Derby, I think they got it on lock. I think that's fine. Sometimes I think maybe home field, they should put that back in the mix for the World Series.

[Rich Davis]

I think so too.

[Steve Covino]

But you know, NBA All Star is the one that gets criticized the most. I think people love the NFL so much they give them a mulligan on the Pro Bowl. The NBA, does this make you think maybe an international game where it's like US stars versus foreign stars is a good idea? Do you think maybe that one on $1 million prize for the stars, does this make you have more interest in that now?

[Dallas Goddard]

I don't think so. I like the direction they're moving in. Just all those breaks and all those comedy performances and musical guests and all that. It was just a little too much in between the actual play because there was defense played. It was a lot more competitive. So I think they're on to something with that. And then with the four team final was a lot more competitive than we have seen in past All Star games. That's why I think they're moving in the right direction.

[Rich Davis]

But I'm telling you, because I did watch it, Danny, I watched both. Stark contrast between both because last night felt huge. Yeah, it felt like. It felt like so much was on the line.

[Steve Covino]

I got to admit it. You were right. One more, Danny, what you got?

[Dallas Goddard]

We're going to wrap with the NFL here. NFL.com writes, Aaron Rodgers is likely going to play a wild card role in the NFL Carousel. If the former four time NFL MVP wishes to continue his career, he's of course going to be released from New York. He's going to have to find a team willing to give him a shot. But what is he looking for in a new team? TMZ tracked him down. He was in a happy mood after a workout and they asked him what factors he's taken into consideration. If they want you. Rodgers responded to the question. He also said he's considering the potential squad put around him and he wouldn't mind warm weather.

[Steve Covino]

I can't disagree with any of those sentiments. Like I said earlier, the more I think about Aaron Rodgers and the quote, quarterback carousel, let's look at it right now. Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford. Then of course you got Sam Darnold cousin now. Yeah, but his cousin's gonna.

[Dallas Goddard]

And Rich don't. Don't forget Rich. The Rams do have Garoppolo, who you were just talking about, kind of waiting in the wings.

[Rich Davis]

Your mom will be happy about that.

[Dallas Goddard]

Yeah. He could just be a bridge quarterback for a season.

[Steve Covino]

He's more of a spokesmodel. Three and three quarter stars. But there's a lot of guys where. This is why the NFL wins because I am so intrigued now that you bring this up. I already forgot about hockey. Where is Aaron Rodgers going to go? Where is Matthew Stafford going to go? Where's Sam Darnold going to go? Kirk Cousins, does he get life somewhere where's. Or is he written off and then, you know, you're assuming the Niners are going to pay Purdy. Right. But is that a fact? Like so, you know, then there's the rumors last week about if you're any.

[Rich Davis]

If you're a fan of any of those teams. Right?

[Steve Covino]

Yeah.

[Rich Davis]

You excited about Aaron Rodgers? Seriously? Or do you think he's best suited for, I don't know, like chilling in a cave somewhere doing what he does?

[Steve Covino]

I'm not BSing you. I'm looking.

[Rich Davis]

You'd be excited.

[Steve Covino]

Look at you in the eyes, the.

[Rich Davis]

Way he played with the Jets.

[Steve Covino]

And I think you dis. I dis you. I think you disregard how he ended the season pretty strongly.

[Rich Davis]

I disregard him now. I'll never disregard the greatness that put him in that position, his great stellar career that he had. But you think that he's got another quality season or two in him.

[Steve Covino]

I think it would be optically terrible and honestly just a bad human move for the 49ers to be like, yo, later Purdy. We're going Aaron Rodgers for one year. But if you told me Brock Purdy's like, oh, I hurt my foot. I'm out for a year. What are we gonna do? I think Aaron Rodgers for one year on a team that's close is still not a bad idea. Some people could write him off and say, yeah, you're out of your mind, Rich.

[Rich Davis]

But I think I would love to see it. But I disagree, respectfully.

[Steve Covino]

I think. I think Aaron Rodgers with the right line and the right weapons, I wouldn't.

[Rich Davis]

Root against the man, but I don't see that.

[Steve Covino]

I think you're crazy to think he's done. I think the jets are just poisoned. I really do. I think. I think no matter who goes there, Joe Montana could have went there. Tom Brady could have went there, and I think they would have failed. I think the jets are cursed. I think that. But the simple fact that there's 32 teams and I just named, like, seven quarterbacks and we're like, we don't know where they're going to be, just shows you the off season intrigue. Why the NFL draft coming up gets so much attention. The NFL Draft, why the Pro bowl? Doesn't matter. The NFL draft went from a bunch of old dudes with, you know, brown and tan phones in a conference room with wooden panel walls in the 80s to cities are bidding on getting the NFL draft in their city. And thousands of people crowd the streets and cheer, and it's a big event.

[Rich Davis]

So 200,000 people in Detroit.

[Steve Covino]

So, you know, Green Bay getting ready. So NFL draft, you know, we're talking about maybe a third of the quarterbacks in the NFL. We're not knowing where they're going to go. And then a team like Danny G's Raiders, Tom Brady has a saying things, and you're like, all right, is it Sam Darnold? Do they go with Chidor Sanders? Did they take a chance on an Aaron Rodgers? So the fact that there's so many question marks and like you said, in these type of scenarios, and you saw this in the baseball off season, sometimes it takes one piece to fall, and then everything else happens afterwards. Like, everyone's waiting on the first move. Like, all right, the Rams. The Rams cut or release Stafford.

[Dallas Goddard]

Boom.

[Steve Covino]

And then. And then the dominoes just all like.

[Rich Davis]

All right, that team, that's.

And so I think we're like, I think we're gonna get ready for a really exciting NFL off season, and I'm pumped more than ever. And with baseball, that's gonna be exciting, I think. And now that your new love of hockey and the NBA playoffs. What a time to be a sports fan.

I'll tell you what we're getting. We're getting a ton of social media feedback on it, because this morning, Cavino, being a big Yankees fan, the news broke, and I was like, yo, need your instant reaction. Go. Because we've talked about it. Honestly, ongoing. Because I've said it. You said it. It's 2025, and for them to have the facial hair rule seems so outdated and antiquated that if they didn't get rid of it. But I felt like you were on the brink of losing some free agents and some players that are like, yo, it's 2025. Don't tell me what to do.

[Rich Davis]

You know, I think the acquisition of Devin Williams and making him shave was really the last straw here, and I really felt like it was any day they were going to change it. So when I woke up to that news, I was like, no way. We were right on it. And again, the feedback's coming in, and a lot of it's from my friends, right. That I grew up with Yankees fans here in Jersey. My buddy James hits me up, right? He goes, damn, bro, I'm on the fence about this. Yankees and beards goes against tradition.

[Steve Covino]

He's the weenie, your friend.

[Rich Davis]

He goes, it's like seeing them report to work in sweats instead of suits. Right? And then my other buddy J Rod, hits me up and he goes, bearded Yankees, a monster nobody's ever seen. Let's go.

[Steve Covino]

You guess, you know, Aaron Judge is gonna show up with a beard. Yeah. And you're like, oh, that's what he wanted to look like before the Yankees were holding him down.

[Rich Davis]

But it's so funny, man. You know, you got to evolve in life. Innovate or die. You know, it's a compromise. They said, well, groomed beards, they're not, you know, expecting people to come in looking like hobos. It's a great compromise. And it's time, Right. It seems perfect and fitting for today's game, yet you're still going to have opinions split down the middle. It's so wild to see.

[Steve Covino]

Well, you know what it is. The current beard, or I guess you would say groom, stubble is the same as a 70s or 80s mustache, which they allowed. Right? Right. So there's today standard. Yeah. They're sticking with groomed. They're just saying like, all right. I mean, honestly, mustaches only just sounds so. Honestly. 70s, disco and 80s, you know, I applaud the decision.

All right, I'll kick it off again. I'm Steve Covino. Thanks for checking out the show. Covenant and Rich, five to seven on the east, two to four on the west. Monday through Friday. I'm a fight fan. As you know, I'm a Yankees fan, but I'm also a big fight fan. So this weekend, Rich, a name that you've heard me talk about for years, you always laugh about it. Better be versus Bible Beville Bivol. Better be versus Bivel 2, as you remember. Better BV got the best of them the first time around. He won the first 12 round fight, majority decision.

But he got the better BF of.

[Rich Davis]

Him, the first of them. And that's on the zone. So some good fights on that card. But the winner of this fight probably gets David Benavidez, the Mexican monster.

[Steve Covino]

So who we saw last month.

[Rich Davis]

Exactly. So the 175 light heavyweight division heating up this weekend, guys. If you're a casual fight fan, this is one to watch. And again, Bible. I call him Bible. People call him Bival Bivol. He's the guy that beat Canelo. Yeah, if you guys remember. So weekend fight.

[Steve Covino]

I will watch that. I make fun of you because I just make fun of Kavino because he's the boy that cries best fight of the year. Every fight. But this is a big one, big battle.

[Rich Davis]

But in the world of ufc, you got UFC fight night. Our boy Henry Cejudo back at it.

[Steve Covino]

Oh, the cringy Henry Sudo Song Yadong.

[Rich Davis]

So. So who the hell versus Yadong?

[Steve Covino]

You're Dong no Yadong.

[Rich Davis]

And again, another great card. Middleweight co main event, you got Allen versus Hernandez. So you got some good boxing and you got some UFC and let's go Vato Loco. Henry Cejudo, really cool dude. Yeah, Triple C, triple cringe. But a really cool dude like that guy and something I haven't gotten around to yet because there's so much to watch. And I was all about Cobra, kind of Sakai Takai last week. That American Murder docu series on Netflix, Gabby Petito, you know, it was a big story. Yeah, we all remember the story, but believe it or not, that was 2021. So that was four years ago already just about. And apparently, like, there's a lot more detail to the story that you get from this unfortunate documentary. But I just love a great documentary. So, again, Gabby Petito, American Murder doc on Netflix, if you want to check it out. That's what I'm watching.

Well, as soon as we say adios in, like five minutes. Yeah, I'm hopping on a plane back to lax and I've downloaded all the episodes for this season of Love is Blind. I've watched the first couple. There are already ridiculous love triangles. It is the most trash TV there possibly is. But Love is Blind is delivering so far. Danny G. I love this.

Oh, yeah, and they've worked. Received a lot of criticism for casting all these generic white dudes who look alike.

[Rich Davis]

They all look like Rich.

[Steve Covino]

Shut up.

Yeah, you know what, though?

Yeah, basically, Rich. We all agree, though, on a side note, if you like dating trash tv, love triangles like Rich does. Love is Blind better than like the Bachelor nowadays, honestly.

Love is Blind is very entertaining because.

[Dallas Goddard]

You know, there's one standout crazy girl this season, too, Rich. She's tatted on her stomach up to her boobs. She will stand out for sure.

[Steve Covino]

Let me tell you, there's crazy dudes, too. And women. Just the idea that these people are trying to fall in love without seeing each other's face is ridiculous. So Love is Blind also, I'll never get Camino to watch, but maybe the rest of you. Paradise with Sterling KK. Brown. It's six episodes in now. It might be the best show I've seen in a long time. It's on Hulu. Paradise. I don't even want to give away the twist at the end of episode one, but it's probably the best show on any streaming service.

You know, the more Rich pushes this on me, the less I want to watch. But I haven't heard, you know, this much buzz about a show in a long time. Every single person, Sterling K. Brown. Even though I only have room in my heart for one Sterling, and that's John Sterling. But, you know, and props to our old pal Sarah Shahi.

[Steve Covino]

Yeah. So paradise is great. Cobra Kai. If you haven't watched that, it's amazing cast of gold. Danny G. I'm guessing you're on that because it's a little behind the scenes of the NBA yeah.

[Dallas Goddard]

The headline yesterday, netflix court of Gold sets the standard for sports documentaries in 2025. The director had all this access to the Olympics. He says, I know we're strangers. His name is Rogal. This is a moment in your life that's cool, he told the players. I want to capture it so you and your family can watch it 20 years from now.

[Steve Covino]

Perfect. Honestly. Honestly. If you watch receiver and quarterback, you know, this is the NBA's version of that, but they're saying, better. And tomorrow I'm getting back just in time for two great little league games. The Teal Ice Crushers. And that's my daughter's softball team. And the T Ball Rockies, my son's team. So very exciting stuff. Nice, man.
