Now let's get this party started.
Tom Pelissero
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, we love quarterback drama in these waters. All right, let's bring on Tom Pelissaro, NFL Network. Try to make some sense of Shador again. Tom. Tom with some of the greatest hair on television. Listen, you don't want to overreact to OTAs. It's June. But when Shador doesn't get first team reps, all of a sudden it's whoa, wait a minute, they don't like him. What are we supposed to make of it? You cover the league, you know, everything.
Tom Pelissero
Start with this Jason. He's a fifth round pick. He should door Sanders plays a fifth round pick. And if you went around the league for the, I mean, let's just, you know, equate to the 23 years that I've been covering the league, you'd be hard pressed to find a lot of occasions where a fifth round pick as a rookie was getting first team reps. There have been guys drafted in that similar area who eventually have gotten opportunities. Sam Howell toward the end of his rookie year was one. It's a pretty decent case study comparison to a Shador Sanders, a guy who was rumored, as you know, first, second round pick, went up slide down to the fifth. He ended up getting his opportunity in year two, but in year one he was a backup. You know, then throw in the fact that you've got Dylan Gabriel there who clearly the Browns had rated higher on their board than Shador Sanders, plus a guy they traded for in Kenny Pickett, plus guy they've gone to the playoffs with in Joe Flacco. And that's without even mentioning desean Watson, who in all likelihood is not going to be available to them in 2025. But he's continuing to rehab here. It just makes logical sense. Now, having said that, a lot of times when you're going through the spring and the way the team structure their offseason programs, you're installing everything, right? Your process of OTAs and minicamp. It's a lot of install and there's some review as you get into minicamp week. Then you come all the way back to training camp and you do it again. So they're exposing him to a lot of different types of things here. They're exposing all the quarterbacks to different things. They're seeing how they react. I've said this consistently, Jason. I think that's the important thing to remember. Let's see how the reps are divided those first two to three weeks of training camp and then up to and the, you know, the week beyond the first preseason game, that's going to give you a much clearer picture of exactly where things stand. Is it going to be the chalk starter which you have to say is Joe Flacco? Again, based upon the experience that he's got in that system and they know what they're going to get for him. Do you potentially see somebody else starting to slip in and getting those first team reps? If you see it in training camp, that's going to be the clear indicator. But you know, the fact that Ota Shador Sanders is not atop the depth chart, that shouldn't shock anybody because regardless of what his name is, he's a fifth round pick. And those guys just don't get spring opportunities to show that they can run the ones.
Colin Cowherd
Great point. Thank you for providing the clarity. There's a lot of Shador slash Dion fans out there who just don't want to hear that. Now there is a world where Pickett, I don't, I don't see Flacco, but maybe Pickett gets flipped to another team that needs a quarterback. And we just got word this morning that Shane Steichen revealed that Anthony Richardson has a shoulder issue. Now, they're not really talking too in depth. I'm sure maybe you've heard more, Tom, but Anthony Richardson will not be doing any activity here for a minute. And that doesn't sound great given his injury history last year with the Colts.
Tom Pelissero
So my understanding, Jason, is that this is not, you know, a huge blinking red light type of a warning here on Anthony Richardson. He had the AC joint injury last year. He's been dealing with the shoulder through the off season. Neil Alatrasch, the famed surgeon, basically the advice was, hey, when in doubt, rested here. The Colts doctors have been on board with the plan all along. Everybody's communicating here. I was told this morning 1000% Anthony Richardson is going to be ready to roll when we come to training camp. But certainly it's cast in a different light when you suddenly have a legitimate player to try to beat him out. This isn't Gardner Minshew. This isn't Joe Flacco. This is Daniel Jones, who was a first round draft pick and has won games in the league, has won a playoff game in his time with the Giants and somebody that the coaching staff in Indianapolis really liked when they were looking for who's going to be the right player, the right veteran to challenge Anthony Richardson. Now, all those first team reps you would presume go to Daniel Jones and minicamp. And again, anytime we're talking about these battles, they're going to be sorted out in TR camp. But the bottom line is when you're watching one guy get all the reps, if you feel good about it, the way your brain is thinking for the Next six weeks leading up to training camp. Daniel Jones has an opportunity to influence that here over the next week.
Colin Cowherd
Now, I do recall Steichen had a ton of success. I believe Jalen hurts in Philly and everybody thought, oh, running quarterback, it's going to work with Richardson, it really hasn't so far. Is that cause for concern coupled with the injuries?
Tom Pelissero
Well, Anthony Richardson, I wouldn't even consider Jason a running quarterback so much as he was a big, raw athlete. You just don't get 6 foot 5, 250 pound guys who have absolute cannons for arms. He started 13 games in college. It was a massive projection. They're sitting there with the number four overall pick. They weren't going to be able in that draft to get Bryce Young or get CJ Stroud, who was really. You take Anthony Richardson or do you take Will Levis? They had pressure on them because they've been going the veteran route through, you know, the Carson Wentz's and Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan's of the world. Chris Ballard needed to draft a quarterback here and you understood it from an upside perspective with Anthony Richardson. But you know, as much as the ceiling was high, the floor was low and we really still don't have an idea of exactly what direction he's going to go because he flat out hasn't been on the field. When you're a guy who just needs reps above all else, spending a lot of time in the training room is going to hinder that development because you're just not getting those types of opportunities here. So yes, that was certainly part of the, the consideration was the success with an athletic type quarterback. Will Leviss is a really good athlete too. Nobody's built like Jalen Hurst, but you thought there'd be some similar elements you might be able to unleash here. The bottom line is Anthony Richardson has missed so much time in his young career. For a guy who also missed time and didn't play a whole lot in college, he's just, he's a complete enigma at this point. You know, I don't put the bus label on him. We just don't know what he is. And until he's actually able to stay on the field and show some of that progression, that's where he's going to stay.
Colin Cowherd
Talking with Tom Pelissero, NFL Network. All right, Tom, let me ask you, CJ Stroud also, we got word this week he's dealing with shoulder soreness. Can you, for foot, for football people, can you put that in lingo as to what that means? In June?
Tom Pelissero
Well, we had, I think reports say it's a peck. We had reports say it's a shoulder. We got Demiko Ryan's going full NHL and saying general body soreness. It doesn't sound like it's a big deal again in June. You're not playing games in June. You got three months until this thing kicks off. And so if there's any types of an issue, you're going to hold back on a guy who's as important to your team as CJ Stroud when it comes to the spring. But we also know shoulder injuries have a habit of lingering, which is also why you back off. Whether it's Richardson, whether it's Stroud, whether it's anybody else, you back off those things in the spring just because, yeah, those reps are important, but they're not nearly as important as being available in the fall. I would say let's keep an eye on it as we get to the start of training camp. If C.J. stroud is, you know, ramped up to a full go within the first week of camp, I wouldn't say there's a big concern. If we get several weeks into camp and they're still holding back on his throwing regimen, then there might be a little bit more to it.
Colin Cowherd
All right, let's go to a team you know, well, Minnesota Vikings. I wanted an impassioned rant about how I believe in J.J. mcCarthy. Hey, Jim Harbaugh believes in him, Kevin O' Connell believes in him and started to get some pushbacks from some people offline. What are you hearing about McCarthy's situation in Minnesota, his recovery from the surgeries? I mean, he hasn't thrown an NFL pass yet. How are things going for him?
Tom Pelissero
Well, first off, Jason, he's put the weight back on. We all saw him on the sideline last year when he's wearing, weighing like a buck 70 or something. He's put the weight back on. He's upwards of £200. He looks a lot better physically at this point. And everything I've been told is that he's, you know, essentially full go in terms of doing football activities through the spring here. Now, there's no contact in the spring. We'll see, you know, how cautious, if at all, the Vikings are when we get into training camp. But in terms of how JJ McCarthy has embraced everything from learning the offense to, you know, I was at the Warriors Wolves Game 5 and Front and center at center courts, Justin Jefferson sitting next to J.J. mcCarthy. And I said to Justin, you know, hey, like you know, it's interesting. You're next to him. He's like, hey, I feel like I want to bring him out in the world. The fact that Justin is kind of rallying around him, he's at the OTAs, developing chemistry with his new quarterback. I would not overlook that in terms of the belief that teammates have in him. Certainly the front office has a high degree of belief in JJ McCarthy. That's why they trade. Traded up one spot to go get him in the draft a year ago. There's a huge unknown when you're talking about a guy who not only didn't play as a rookie, didn't have any reps. Jason, I mean, he tore the meniscus in the first preseason game, missed the entire year. There's a lot he had to go through. There was a second procedure that he had to have in December. But everything from a physical perspective is tracking now. It's just in an offense where we've seen different quarterbacks. Kirk Cousins, Sam Darnold play, at least statistically, the best football of their lives. Let's see if J.J. mcCarthy can elevate his game once those live bullets start flying.
Colin Cowherd
All right, going off the board here, Tom. NFC north is loaded. Kindly ranked. The quarterbacks heading into this season in the NFC north, it's very tough. We've. I think I've done this with three people, and all of them gave different answers.
Tom Pelissero
Well, I think that the guy that you have to look at is Jordan Love, first and foremost in terms of a young player who is on the ascent. He dealt with injuries last year. I mean, that. That injury that he had in the opener in Brazil was no joke. You know, it took him a few weeks to get battled through. It probably wasn't 100%, then got banged up again later in the season here. But the Jordan Love that we've seen at his best, the Jordan Love we saw down the stretch in 2023, that last throw against the 49ers notwithstanding, that's a really, really good quarterback. Jared Goff is obviously one at a really high level guy who's been to the Super Bowl. He's played really good football for the Lions. You know, I mean, I'm not, you know, giving you a hot take here, Jason, but you say one game with one of those two guys, I'd say, well, the guy who's done it before is Jared Goff. But the guy you probably trust more in the skill set is Jordan Love. So Those guys are pro 1A, 1B, however you want to rank them. JJ McCarthy is a total unknown. Like I said, he has not taken a regular season snap. He's only taking preseason snaps in one game. Let's see where we are with him when we get into the season. And then Caleb Williams, I would still put in the unknown bucket because we actually saw Caleb Williams play pretty good football last year. And if you look at really ramping up to that game against the Commanders that everybody remembers for Tyreek Stevenson, taunting the fans and they hit the Hail Mary. If that game goes the other way, Jason, it's the Bears that are in first place in the NFC North. The Commanders take a huge loss on their home field. Where's the rest of that season go? The Bears didn't win another game. Matt Eberfluss got fired before they won another game, Week 18 against the Packers. But Caleb was on the ascent. You saw it like weeks 3, 4, 5. You saw him playing better and better football. I am fascinated to see what Ben Johnson is going to be able to do with him. I'm fascinated to see what without Ben Johnson, the Lions are going to do with Jared Goff. I would just say for me, in terms of the trajectory, the upside, knowing how Matt LaFleur coaches him, it's hard to bet against Jordan Love as the top quarterback within the division. But when we got multiple guys that we just haven't seen do it at least for any extended period yet, that those rankings could be all over the place by September.
Colin Cowherd
All right, Tom Pelissero, NFL Network. Great stuff. Enjoy the off season. I'll talk to you soon tomorrow.

All right back here on the herd. Good stuff from Tom Pelissero, I don't know about this cold Colts quarterback situation. I guess we'll find out about the injury soon. Let's go to Alex Curry with the news.
Tom Pelissero
No, no, no, no.
Colin Cowherd
Turn on the news.
Tom Pelissero
This is the Herd line news and.
Alex Curry
We'Re going to start with the Colts quarterback situation because Anthony Richardson is suffering from a shoulder injury, per head coach Shane Steichen. Now, apparently Richardson felt soreness from his surgically repaired AC joint after an OTA practice last week. Colts have an OTA practice on Thursday and then three veteran minicamp practices next week. There's no timetable at the moment for Richardson's return, but the team does not think he'll require surgery. So J. Mac, never a good sign when there's no timeline, especially when it's on an existing injury. However, he was told by doctors, when in doubt, just rest it. We still got a couple months for the start of the season, but when you look at his two year career so far, he's only played 15 games in two seasons, four games in his rookie year, 11 games in year two. And he has legit competition this year, like kind of with Daniel Jones there, who's been a starting quarterback, has a lot to prove this season. But another interesting thing here, okay, the last quarterback that started for Indy besides Richardson and Camp, should the Colts trade for Flacco?
Colin Cowherd
Oh, I know, I know. Who wedged that in there?
Alex Curry
Yeah, he did.
Colin Cowherd
I don't think they should trade for flag. Okay, let me back up. So you were a big time soccer player. You had surgeries. I'm assuming.
Alex Curry
I never had surgery. Really, but I tore all the ligaments.
Colin Cowherd
My ankle and you just decided to let it heal.
Jason McIntyre
I did.
Alex Curry
I did no surgery.
Colin Cowherd
Because I just wonder, you mentioned a good point that like, listen, man, they just signed Daniel Jones.
Alex Curry
Yeah, that's.
Colin Cowherd
He has been a starter.
Alex Curry
He has. And he has a lot to prove. He wants to prove that he can still be a starter.
Colin Cowherd
If you're Richardson coming off a surgery, you want to get out there and get your job.
Alex Curry
Yeah, but you're not. You're not guaranteed QB1 reps right out of the gate like you have Daniel Jones.
Colin Cowherd
You can't.
Alex Curry
Yeah, but you also don't want to push it and re injure it because he was told by doctors when in doubt, rest it and it's sore.
Colin Cowherd
This guy's 22. He's built like a tank. He's played.
Alex Curry
He's played 15 games in two seasons. He's been injured.
Colin Cowherd
Maybe not an arm, maybe a plastic tank.
Alex Curry
Yeah. A delicate tank.
Colin Cowherd
I just. I would.
Alex Curry
What do you do?
Colin Cowherd
How's this?
Alex Curry
What?
Colin Cowherd
I will watch Anthony Richardson.
Alex Curry
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Play quarterback. I will not watch Daniel Jones. I've seen that. It's. No.
Alex Curry
Well, yeah. There's.
Colin Cowherd
Richardson's electric.
Alex Curry
Yeah. And there's hope. Like, there's. When you watch him, it's like, oh, maybe he can do this, but can he stay healthy? That's also like, a really big thing for young athletes who, like, have an injury pass. And his NFL's career has been injury prone so far.
Colin Cowherd
Richardson's a guy who will throw a 70 yard bomb in the air.
Alex Curry
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
And on the next play, run over a linebacker at the goal line. Like, that's what I want to see.
Alex Curry
Okay. But he's got to also be healthy to play.
Colin Cowherd
By the way, what do you think of the nickname for Daniel Jones? Vanilla Vic. Have you heard that one?
Alex Curry
No. What?
Colin Cowherd
I don't. It was a nickname back in New York for him.
Alex Curry
Was it?
Colin Cowherd
Because he was like, running memory and. Okay, sorry.
Alex Curry
Like, my.
Colin Cowherd
Just found it funny the first time I heard.
Alex Curry
Absolutely not.
Colin Cowherd
I know, I know.
Alex Curry
Not even close.
Tom Pelissero
Okay.
Alex Curry
Let's move to the NBA. You're gonna like this one. Draymond Green might have had a hotter NBA take than you this week. Take a listen to Draymond talking about winning and losing championships.
Colin Cowherd
If you want me to be quite honest with you.
Alex Curry
I personally think making it to the.
Colin Cowherd
NBA Finals is one of the worst seasons you can have. Going to the NBA Finals and winning an NBA championship, those two things are so far apart.
Alex Curry
Like, you can get to the NBA Finals and not be close to winning an NBA championship. And I know that may sound hard.
Colin Cowherd
For people to believe, but those that.
Alex Curry
Have won championships would definitely understand what I'm saying.
Colin Cowherd
And those that have been there and.
Alex Curry
Didn'T quite win would definitely understand what I'm saying.
Colin Cowherd
It's. Those two things are so drastically far apart.
Alex Curry
No, this. This doesn't make sense. You are the second closest team to get to an NBA championship. Would you rather to have love and loss than to have never loved at all? It's like one of those, like, would you want to get there and have a chance to win? Or like, no, you don't even have a chance if you're not in the NBA Finals.
Colin Cowherd
Romantic.
Alex Curry
Always. Always.
Colin Cowherd
So I noticed experience something when I bring up my men's league, league basketball. So we had a stacked team with Richard Jefferson. We lose an unbelievable turn of events in the final 10 seconds. So we. We're like. We're Gonna get the next one. We go back to next year, a bunch of our guys get hurt, we lose in the championship.
Alex Curry
Rj, on your team, not the second year. Okay.
Colin Cowherd
After the back to back championship losses, we took off a season. I couldn't take it. Losing in the championship is so painful. You lose in the first round, it's like, who cares?
Alex Curry
No, but I can understand that's being a sore loser. You have to experience loss to know what it takes to win. That's when you build up. Your strength is when you're down in the ditch and when you've experienced. I don't want to feel that feeling again. I never want to feel that loss feeling again. So I'm going to do everything in my power not to feel that loss. And that's added motivation to get back and actually win a championship.
Colin Cowherd
100%.
Alex Curry
You're running away from.
Colin Cowherd
No, no. We came back the second year. We were pushing so hard. Four of us, including myself, got injuries. And at this point, I'm just so ticked. We dropped out of the league this season. And it's disappointing because the team we usually smash is now undefeated. They're gonna win. Nobody cares. This is weird. I understand where Draymond's coming from. I know people will disagree. I. I didn't look see this on the line or online. Are people just crushing him for this?
Alex Curry
I. I haven't. I haven't looked at the comments, but I. I don't agree with what he's saying. I think that's a wrong mentality. You want it like, if. If you want to reach the top of the mountain, you got to get close and you got to try and you got to fail getting there, like, oh, I've only been knocked out of the first round. Oh, wait, I've made it to the finals. Haven't won. I know what it takes to get there.
Colin Cowherd
I think that's a little different. I think it. If you lose in the first round, it. It's almost better, if that makes any sense.
Alex Curry
No, it's not.
Colin Cowherd
If you go to the finals and lose, it is so painful.
Alex Curry
Yeah. But then it's also. It should motivate you to get back and do it better next year.
Colin Cowherd
But, yeah, the motivation, sure.
Alex Curry
But like, I've lost in finals, I've won finals, I lost in finals in my college career. I. You never want to experience that again. So you're gonna do everything in your power to not feel that way and use it as motivation to get back.
Colin Cowherd
Right? Yeah. It's just a tough discussion. Can we get Draymond on cowherd. Can you talk to him? He's your guy.
Alex Curry
I. Yeah. I don't. I like that.
Colin Cowherd
That's an interesting topic.
Alex Curry
It is. It's very interesting. I'm on the other side. You're obviously on his side. I'm on the other side. Let's wrap things up in Buffalo Bill's quarterback Josh Allen had the best season of his career last year, but offensive coordinator Joe Brady says that Josh is even more driven than he was last year. Take a listen, Brady. Talk about the reigning mvp.
Jason McIntyre
What I love about Josh is Josh's.
Tom Pelissero
His demeanor, his approach, his mindset.
Jason McIntyre
I mean, it is as impressive as.
Tom Pelissero
It gets, and it's infectious around the team. So when he walks in the building.
Jason McIntyre
You don't see a guy that.
Tom Pelissero
You don't feel a guy that just won the MVP last year, and it's like, oh, you know what? Like, I'm good.
Jason McIntyre
You feel a guy that's hungry and.
Tom Pelissero
Is trying to figure out ways to.
Jason McIntyre
Get better and embracing his new teammates.
Alex Curry
Josh Allen and the Bills are favored in every game this year. This is the year to get it done. The target is on their back. We know how great Josh Allen is, obviously. Obviously, he's the reigning mvp, but he needs to be better in the postseason. He's 7 and 6 in the playoffs with those losses to Burrow and Mahomes. He needs to get over that hump. That's what has to happen. You got to be better in the postseason.
Colin Cowherd
Let me ask you. So I'm sure you saw the news. Josh Allen got married last weekend to this actress, Hailee Steinfeld. So, you know, you hear a lot of stuff. He apparently is buying a place out here in the Valley. He's gonna join this golf course and everything. I just wonder.
Alex Curry
It's not a distraction. Okay.
Colin Cowherd
That's where I was going.
Alex Curry
No, no, no, no. Because I. There are some relationships where it feels like a distraction. She works just as hard as him. She's a working actress, and he's talked about the support and love that she's helped provided him that made him a better player on the field. When you hear that and you have a supportive partner who pushes you to be better, that's when you're at your best. I mean, he was. What. He got engaged last year. She was publicly the biggest part of his life last year, and he had the best season of his career. So I don't see it being a distraction. I see it being support, which is great for a guy like Josh Allen. Who can handle that?
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, I'm all in on the Bills. I think they win the Super Bowl.
Alex Curry
Dang.
Colin Cowherd
Anybody but the Chiefs. Anybody with the chief salads, please.
Alex Curry
I mean, you don't even have the Chiefs making the playoffs.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, it's not. You're wild cake Alex with the news.
Tom Pelissero
Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by the Herd lie news.
Colin Cowherd
All right, folks, the final segment today, you're gonna love this. So obviously that we call it Best for Last. And they handed me a sheet and it said, kevin or Kev Out. Who would you take? Kevin Durant, Kevin or Kev Out. You're gonna love that. It's next year on the Herd.

Colin Cowherd
Back here on the herd, yeah. They tell me I can't talk about it, so I won't.
Alex Curry
Don't.
Colin Cowherd
Anyways, we got the NBA Finals coming up starting tonight. Alex, I know you're excited, but there's a bigger story afoot, and that is this gentleman behind me, Kevin Durant.
Alex Curry
Bigger?
Colin Cowherd
I think it's bigger than the NBA Finals. No, He's a top 15 player all time. All right, wait, wait.
Alex Curry
That's a hot take.
Colin Cowherd
You think the Pacers Thunder is more exciting than Katie?
Alex Curry
I'd just say that kd, where he's going to end up is bigger than the NBA Finals is a hot take.
Colin Cowherd
I didn't. I thought that was, like, lukewarm, but you could call it.
Alex Curry
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
And of course, yes, after my rant yesterday, KD went on Instagram and wrote a little reply being angry. This is what he does. So our guys came up with something. Kevin or Kev?
Jason McIntyre
Out.
Colin Cowherd
Who would you gonna. Who would you rather take next season on your team? Alex is gonna ask me, current NBA star, and I'll decide. Kevin or Kev? Out.
Alex Curry
All right. Who would you rather have on your team, KD or Carl Anthony Towns?
Colin Cowherd
Why are we starting there?
Alex Curry
I thought we were starting with some layouts.
Colin Cowherd
Shucks.
Alex Curry
Oh, shucks.
Colin Cowherd
Damn it. Okay, so I'm a Knicks guy.
Jason McIntyre
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Duh. I'm not saying I want this train, but I would rather have Kevin Durant than Carl Anthony Towns. Very, very slightly. After what you. I don't want the train. I don't want the train, but I would rather have kd. Does that make any sense?
Jason McIntyre
Yes.
Alex Curry
After what you just saw in the last round, you went off about his. His defense.
Colin Cowherd
It was bad.
Alex Curry
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Something's going on inside that team, definitely. And it sounds like a lot of fingers are being pointed in a certain direction.
Alex Curry
Yeah. Okay. All right, next up, would you rather have Katie or Steph Curry? Alex, this is your layup.
Colin Cowherd
Come on. Steph Curry, obviously. So I'm playing in this men's league. And they were like, wait, Jersey number. Numbers. Do you want.
Alex Curry
You know.
Colin Cowherd
No, there's, like, a real one, though. And I was like, 30, obviously, for the chef. Yeah, I know. This is no debate. Steph Curry, obviously, like. Yeah, I. I don't. I think you, the audience, are a thousand percent with me.
Alex Curry
Yeah, right. Oh, yeah, I am. But I'm a big Curry fan. I'm a LeBron and Curry fan. Like, those are my guys.
Colin Cowherd
You don't like Katie?
Alex Curry
No, I'm just saying those are my two favorite players. Oh, yeah. Also, like. Well, Curry's my cousin.
Colin Cowherd
Wait, is SGA one of your favorite.
Alex Curry
You're going down that train again.
Colin Cowherd
I'm not.
Alex Curry
All right.
Colin Cowherd
Okay.
Alex Curry
Who would you rather have on your team next season, Katie or John Morant? That's tough.
Colin Cowherd
I'm gonna go Kevin Durant. John Morant. Still a bit of a mess off the court. Let's see if you can have an off season.
Alex Curry
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Not making negative headlines. Yeah. I would go KD there. He's 37. John Morant. Still an electric player. Sells a lot of merch.
Alex Curry
Yes, he does.
Colin Cowherd
He can dunk really cool. Does that even make sense? He's a great dunker. I'm sorry if I can rewind. He's a great dunker, but I don't know. The Morantz game is going to age particularly well. He's like a little bit of a Russell Westbrook. Can't shoot, flying all around. By the way, did you see the report? Westbrook may go to Europe.
Alex Curry
No.
Colin Cowherd
Crazy.
Alex Curry
Anyway.
Colin Cowherd
All right, I'll go Kevin Durant.
Alex Curry
Okay. Who would you rather have on your team next season, KD or Tyrese Halliburton?
Colin Cowherd
I gotta go. What the helly? Give me Tyrese Halliburton. I'm a big fan. I think he's encroaching. Top 10 player in the league.
Alex Curry
Oh, I love him.
Colin Cowherd
Show well in the Finals, Alex.
Alex Curry
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
I mean, he's 11 years younger than KD, obviously. And the biggest knock for me on Durant is he doesn't make everyone around him better. That's why I love Luca.
Alex Curry
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
That's why I love Curry, and that's why I love Halliburton.
Alex Curry
Well, we heard. We played the LeBron sound earlier, right, where he was talking about guys want to fight for him because he has that energy on the court. And that. That's. That's such a key part to a leader. Not only can you lead by example, but do you motivate everyone around you to elevate their game to your level? Okay, who would you rather have on your team next season, KD or Joel Embiid?
Colin Cowherd
Come on, kd. That's. No. I don't even know what Embiid's future in the NBA is, honestly. Guy goes to the Olympics, can barely play, has like a good quarter, maybe a good half, and now he's like a nodal non factor. He needs knee surgery like Kevin Durant. In a heartbeat. Sorry.
Alex Curry
Okay. Who would you rather have on your team next season, KD or Jimmy Butler?
Colin Cowherd
A little tougher. I'm gonna go Jimmy Buckets. It's interesting because the warriors could have gone.
Alex Curry
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. They could have been on in a similar situation. Situation.
Colin Cowherd
I think Jimmy Butler was the right call. Remember, they win in the first round against Houston. If they win game one against Minnesota, if Curry doesn't get hurt, they're probably fine. Jimmy Butler is a 2 as a 1. He took the heat to the finals twice. Like, yeah, I go Jimmy Butler over KD next season.
Alex Curry
Okay. KD or Kawhi Leonard?
Colin Cowherd
This was the toughest. The toughest one for sure.
Alex Curry
Okay.
Colin Cowherd
Because Kawhi, when he was healthy, look really good. Remember, they pushed Denver to seven. They did that.
Tom Pelissero
Help.
Alex Curry
Spin is Achilles heel.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. Give me Kevin D. That's. I know that's a tough one. I, I wonder if Kawhi has, like, a big market because, like, you don't know what you're trading for. Like, with kd, you know, he's gonna show.
Alex Curry
How many games are you gonna get him? And it's usually end of the season playoffs, which is the worst time to be hurt.
Colin Cowherd
At least KD plays. They may get swept by Anthony Edwards and Jason Tat him, but at least he's playing. So KD over Kawhi.
Alex Curry
All right, let's wrap it up with the big one. Who would you rather have on your team next season, KD or LeBron?
Colin Cowherd
LeBron. If I give me LeBron James, you know, 40 years old, the stuff he's doing in this league.
Alex Curry
Alex, I, I, I AM Such a LeBron fan. You don't want to, like, I don't understand the hate. I do not understand.
Colin Cowherd
I'm on record. He's the greatest player in NBA history. I've been saying that since he brought the title to the Lakers. In the bubble, anywhere he goes, he's the system. And everyone works around wins.
Alex Curry
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Doesn't matter.
Alex Curry
The coach, he's one of the franchises. Yeah. The guy's amazing. That's a big deal. That is a huge deal. No, I'm a huge LeBron fan and what he brings to the franchise, too.
Colin Cowherd
So we got a full screen. If you were watching or missed a couple. Kevin or Kev out. I did take KD over Kat. Katie over John Morant, over Embiid and over Kawhi. Yeah, two of those are injury related, actually, and one's off the court. And Cat is a bit of a space cadet, but yeah, give me LeBron, Butler, Halle and Curry.
Alex Curry
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Over Kevin Durant. Yeah.
Alex Curry
Those are good. Did you off the top of the show, Did I hear this, right? Did you say you're taking Pacers?
Colin Cowherd
I'm gonna put a little money on the Pacers to win this year. I think I'm gonna do an exacta.
Alex Curry
Okay.
Colin Cowherd
Pacers to win the series, 4:2. There's no point in betting on the OKC Thunder. Like, I'm not.
Alex Curry
So is this because you think they can actually do it or because it's a better bet?
Colin Cowherd
A combination of the two. So I think I saw the number was like plus 1040 if the Pacers win the series. Exactly. Four two. Yeah. Let's be real. They're not sweeping the Thunder. Four one. That ain't happening. And they're not winning game seven in Oklahoma.
Alex Curry
Definitely not.
Colin Cowherd
So their best Bet would be 4:2 at home.
Alex Curry
Okay, so this is your betting pick.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. Now this is a pizza money bet. Yeah.
Alex Curry
So that's your money bet. What's your brain. Your brain saying?
Colin Cowherd
OK, OKC4 0.
Alex Curry
Oh. Oh, you're saying sweet. You think it's gonna be a sweet?
Colin Cowherd
I think that's in play for sure. Okay.
Alex Curry
If you're. If you want to have fun with it, put some money on it.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah.
Alex Curry
For two.
Colin Cowherd
I mean, like, there's just. No, I'm not gonna bet $1,000 on Oklahoma City to win, like $7. Like, that's just dumb.
Alex Curry
No, I don't think that. You think they're gonna. They're gonna sweep?
Colin Cowherd
I. I do think they're gonna.
Alex Curry
You're taking game one tonight.
Colin Cowherd
Well, there's some bad game one betting trends on underdogs.
Alex Curry
Okay.
Colin Cowherd
So I'm not touching the Pacers tonight. This is kind of a wait and see.
Alex Curry
They also had issues getting in. The weather was kind of. That's. That can affect. I mean, I don't think it's going to affect them that much.
Colin Cowherd
Let's go.
Tom Pelissero
Score.
Colin Cowherd
I'll go 118 to 96.
Alex Curry
Oh, Thunder, that's.
Colin Cowherd
Let me write that down in case.
Alex Curry
It'S accurate to 97. I'm gonna say it's a five score game.
Colin Cowherd
Five score game?
Alex Curry
Yeah. Like they're gonna win by five.
Colin Cowherd
Oh. So they won't cover. Okay, so Alex and I on the Thunder. Enjoy the game tonight. We'll see you tomorrow.

Podcast Summary: The Herd with Colin Cowherd
Episode: Hour 3 - Tom Pelissero
Release Date: June 5, 2025
In this episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, host Colin Cowherd engages in an in-depth discussion with NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. They delve into pressing NFL quarterback scenarios, injury updates, and broader team dynamics within the league. The conversation offers listeners expert insights into the current state of NFL teams and player performances.
At [02:42], Colin brings up concerns regarding Shador Sanders' lack of first-team reps despite being a fifth-round pick. Highlighting the rarity of fifth-rounders getting significant playing time, especially in their rookie seasons, Colin questions the Colts' confidence in Sanders.
Tom Pelissero responds at [03:09], emphasizing that "Shador Sanders, a fifth-round pick, shouldn't be expected to garner first-team reps in his debut." He draws comparisons to other late-round picks like Sam Howell, noting that while some have succeeded over time, Sanders' current position is still precarious. Pelissero explains, "The Browns have drafted higher-rated quarterbacks and have existing players like Dylan Gabriel and Joe Flacco, making it logical to prioritize them over Sanders."
The discussion shifts to Anthony Richardson's shoulder issue at [05:52]. Colin mentions that Shane Steichen revealed Richardson is dealing with a shoulder injury, raising concerns given Richardson's injury history.
At [05:52], Pelissero clarifies, "This isn't a huge blinking red light type of warning. He's been advised to rest his shoulder, and he's expected to be ready by training camp." However, he notes the emergence of Daniel Jones as a potential starter complicates Richardson's position. Pelissero asserts, "Daniel Jones has the opportunity to influence his standing in training camp."
Colin also inquires about CJ Stroud's shoulder soreness at [08:49]. Pelissero provides a nuanced view at [09:04], stating, "Reports suggest it's a peck or general body soreness—not serious enough to warrant immediate concern." He advises monitoring Stroud's condition as training camp approaches, emphasizing the importance of availability over minor injuries.
The conversation transitions to the Minnesota Vikings' quarterback, JJ McCarthy, at [10:19]. Colin seeks an update on McCarthy's recovery from surgeries and his progress in throwing NFL passes.
Pelissero responds at [10:19], noting McCarthy's physical improvements and increased weight as positive signs. He says, "He's full go in terms of football activities through the spring, with no contact during this period." Pelissero highlights the support from teammates like Justin Jefferson and the front office's belief in McCarthy, concluding, "If JJ McCarthy can elevate his game once live plays resume, he could be a significant asset for the Vikings."
At [11:49], Colin asks Pelissero to rank the quarterbacks in the NFC North as the season approaches. Pelissero provides a comprehensive analysis:
Jordan Love (Packers): Despite battling injuries, Love has shown promising growth. Pelissero states, "The Jordan Love we saw down the stretch in 2023 is a really, really good quarterback."
Jared Goff (Lions): With Super Bowl experience, Goff remains a reliable option.
JJ McCarthy (Vikings): Still an unknown with limited regular-season experience.
Caleb Williams (Bears): Although showing improvement, Williams remains in the "unknown bucket" due to inconsistent performance.
Pelissero concludes at [14:04], "Jordan Love has the highest trajectory within the division, but with multiple young quarterbacks still developing, rankings could shift by September."
During the news segment at [17:46], Alex Curry discusses the ongoing situation with the Colts' quarterback Anthony Richardson. Reports indicate that Richardson is experiencing soreness post-surgery, with no immediate timeline for his return. The conversation touches on the implications of Richardson's injury on the Colts' quarterback hierarchy, including the presence of Daniel Jones as a contender for the starting position.
Colin and Alex engage in a spirited exchange about Richardson's future with the team, reflecting on his injury-prone career and the challenges he faces in securing a stable starting role.
The discussion briefly shifts to the NBA, where Draymond Green's perspectives on winning and losing championships are debated. Alex Curry expresses disagreement with Green's mentality, advocating for resilience and the drive to improve after losses.
Additionally, Colin and Alex engage in a playful segment titled "Kevin or Kev Out," where they debate the merits of various NBA players, ultimately favoring LeBron James and other dependable stars over injury-prone or inconsistent players.
In the final portion of the episode, Colin and Alex participate in the "Kevin or Kev Out" segment, posing hypothetical scenarios to choose between different NBA players. Highlights include:
Kevin Durant vs. Carl Anthony Towns: Colin prefers Durant due to his experience and impact on the game.
Steph Curry vs. Kevin Durant: Both agree on Curry's exceptional skills and leadership.
LeBron James vs. Kevin Durant: Both hosts ultimately favor LeBron James, citing his unparalleled performance and leadership qualities.
This segment showcases the hosts' enthusiasm and deep knowledge of NBA talent, providing listeners with entertaining insights into player evaluations.
Throughout the episode, Colin Cowherd and Tom Pelissero offer a blend of analytical insights and engaging discussions on NFL quarterback dynamics, player injuries, and team strategies. The episode concludes with lighthearted NBA debates, ensuring a well-rounded and informative listening experience for fans of both football and basketball.
