Ryan Music
Is that a Wendy Williams Or a Rasputia when I do it.
Patrick Mahomes

Ryan Music
But no, really, how you doing?
Steve Covino
So many ways to go.
Ryan Music
Happy New Year. From our show to you. From our show to your show. You probably have a show too.
Steve Covino
Everyone's got a podcast. It's 2025.
Ryan Music
Everybody does. We're in for Colin on the herd. The number's 8, 7, 7 for the herd. 8 7, 7, 484, 3437. Danny G. Our producer, super producer. And waiting for your phone calls because we're about to play Showtime Mahomes trivia in just a few minutes, your chance to win the coveted prize of the stainless steel swiggy. It's midnight black. We got a whole new shipment of swiggies, a stainless steel water bottle, and it's just NFL trivia hosted by Showtime. Broke Showtime.
Danny G
Holmes.
Steve Covino
The number again.
Ryan Music
Eight, seven, seven for the Herd.
Danny G
Yeah. Multiple choice. Don't be scared.
Ryan Music
Yeah, yeah. Get involved.
Steve Covino
Come on, get involved. Most interactive show on Fox Sports Radio. Now, before we play Showtime Mahomes trivia before we get to weekend hobnobbin, which is what to watch. Besides football, besides some NBA, there's a new dating show I want to talk about later. During weekend hobnobbing, they've, they've scraped the bottom of the barrel for this. There's a show where you have to be like stuck with your in laws on an island. Have you seen this?
Patrick Mahomes
No.
Steve Covino
They've come up with every idea. So we'll get to all the dumb stuff you can watch this weekend. But I wanted to, you know, put a little bow on the conversation about the Yankees being a little, maybe not a little, a lot outdated free agency. There's still players out there in the mix. Polar Bear Pete Alonzo is one of them. The market dictates what you're worth. I think he thought he was going to get a lot more. Mets, Angels, Yankees. There's a few teams, but they don't want to give Polar Bear Pete any more than three or four years.
Ryan Music
Looks like he's running out of options too.
Steve Covino
Right. And when you look at some of the free agents that were signed, the Yankees, you know, you could argue that they lost Juan Soto, but they certainly, I think, have a lot of great, low risk, high reward players. Yeah.
Ryan Music
Forced them to make better moves. Bellinger strategy. Yeah.
Steve Covino
Goldschmidt. They got Williams in the bullpen now. And it, it got me thinking because these poor guys now have to shave and I know you might say they're making tens of millions of dollars. Who cares? But I looked around the room. Let's say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. There's seven people, seven men working here now in the hallway, I saw J. Stu from the Got Leap show. I saw Big Mike, I saw perfect. There's roughly 10 people I saw in the last five minutes. All grown men, all with facial hair that would all have to change their look if they played for the Yankees. So I ask you, is it the lamest rule in all of sports in 2025, when you see a guy like Paul Goldschmidt, do you think this dude wants to shave every day? You're in a slump. You're on the Road 162 games every morning, waking up and shaving the soul.
Ryan Music
You make sacrifices for things that you care about. Like, and that could be your job, that could be your relationship. If your girlfriend says, you know, I really love you, clean shaven, guess what? You're probably shaving your beard. There's a reason I stopped wearing earrings. My girlfriend was like, it's goal.
Steve Covino
Is Paul Goldschmidt sleeping with Brian Cashman.
Ryan Music
Yeah, but again, you make those sacrifices for your job or things you care about, it's your priority, right? Like when we worked on ESPN on tv, they didn't say I had to, but they recommended I take my earrings off. And you know what, Quite frankly, maybe I should have anyway, but because I was like, well, you know, I care about my job and I want to present the way, the best way they want me to, I'll take them off.
Steve Covino
I think you should have took out the diamond stud you wear and put in a hanging Barry Bonds earring from the 90s. That would have been the look I.
Ryan Music
Should have wore a Lawrence Taylor one. Yeah, I had one standby. But my point is there's some compromise that maybe you have to make when you're making a ton of money and you're wearing the pinstripes. I know you, you put no value in that. Neither did Juan Soto. But those are the rules. And it's not that big of a deal. Maybe that's part of the price you pay to play for the Yanks. But the younger generation fan, Please, let me, let me say this. I do, for the first time, agree. Maybe it's the feel of these younger players and times are changing more than ever. Or maybe it's becoming such an international game that, you know, that's a big ask to tell some young Dominican kid who has a sweet shape up and you know, sort of known for having this look, and he has this precision beard that he takes a lot of pride in to all of a sudden shave that and not feel 100% stepping into the batter's box. To me, as a fan now, I'm like, let this young dude feel his best. I want him to feel as confident as ever. And that whole Devin Williams side of it made me think that there has to be a compromise there. I don't think that the Yankees should completely. Because then you look like the 2004 Red Sox, like a bunch of hobos, right? Who look like a bunch of old homeless cowboys. I think that there's a compromise where you don't look like a caveman. You could still rock facial hair, but, like, it has to be groomed. You know what I mean?
Steve Covino
I think that's a fair adjustment.
Ryan Music
I think there's a compromise. You could say clean shavens out.
Steve Covino
You could say dumb observation. But, hey, it is that week, you.
Ryan Music
Know, I think it's time.
Steve Covino
It's the week where everyone's just sort of chilling, doing nothing. Anyway, probably a lot of people sitting on their butt, not back to work yet, scratching their stubble as we speak, thinking, yeah, you know what if I had a shave every single day? That would be sort of a pain in the butt. That would be a pain in the ass. And I think we're looking at a time now where these young players, they don't value the pinstripes like maybe previous generations. And on top of that, now you're telling some young kid every single day, right? You have to shave. I asked everyone in this room, music. When was the last time you actually shaved? You're rocking like a thin beard. When was the last time you shaved your face?
Spotty
Shaved my face down to the skin would be going on probably about 11 years ago now. Yeah.
Steve Covino
Yeah, good luck playing for the Yankees.
Spotty
Yeah, that's right.
Steve Covino
Shave tomorrow. I'm almost like music. I'd say, maybe they've never seen my.
Spotty
Slider, by the way.
Steve Covino
Maybe five years ago, for the hell of it, one day, I was like, yeah, let me clean slate. Shave. Danny G. When was the last time. I've never seen you with a shave face.
Danny G
My family hasn't either. I've had a five o'clock shadow since I was 15, man. 20 years.
Ryan Music
See? Yeah, it's a bigger ask than ever. Especially in the times that we're living in, too, because it's hard to get young people just to show up at work. The lack and level of respect people have for Their workplace is so different now. There's a lot of companies telling people they need to return to the office, and they're like, yeah, I don't wanna. So imagine telling that type of young person that you have to shave. They're like, I don't even wanna put on pants, let alone shave.
Steve Covino
I mean, most guys have a razor. They just don't shave their face.
Ryan Music
Exactly. I do think we've gotten to the point, Rich, where compromise is the key here. No doubt.
Steve Covino
All right, let's do this. Showtime, Mahomes trivia.
Rich Davis
The mostly lovable Patrick Mahomes truth is.
Patrick Mahomes
I want everybody to love me, not.
Rich Davis
Just the time for some NFL trivia.
Patrick Mahomes
I'm here. I'm here.
Rich Davis
Yes, we know you're here.
Patrick Mahomes
All right, Patrick Mahomes here to play. Showtime. Mahomes trivia.
Danny G
All right, FSR security walking our broke Patrick into the main studio.
Patrick Mahomes
Hey, what's up? I'm here. I'm here, guys. Early, but I'm here. I made it.
Danny G
You were waiting in our blue kitchen. Someone told me you looked like you had a little bit of attitude.
Steve Covino
Little bit.
Patrick Mahomes
Just a little bit, you know? Fifteen in one, no Pro Bowl. Don't need the Pro Bowl. I got a Pro bowl of Kelsey Mick's and that's all I need. 15, 1. Look at the record. Anyway. What's up, Patrick Mahomes. I'm here. What's going on?
Danny G
All right, let's meet the contestants right now. 24 time winner, Rich Davis right over there. 7 time champion, Spotty.
Patrick Mahomes
Boy, is this guy sleeping or what?
Steve Covino
Hey, Spotty, you sleeping still? Hey.
Patrick Mahomes
Hey, man. If that's the case, I would have stayed home.
Danny G
Newcomer Ryan Music and looking to win a CNR stainless steel swiggy on our studio lines here. All right, Music, I'll use you for this. Would you love to travel to McMinnville, Tennessee, Greenville, Michigan, Providence, Rhode island, or Locust Grove, Georgia?
Spotty
Oh, Locust Grove, Georgia. Come on.
Danny G
Oh, we need.
Ryan Music
Come on now.
Spotty
Locust Grove, Georgia.
Danny G
Oh, you want to go Georgia? All right.
Ryan Music
Such a great name. Locust Grove.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Danny G
Say what's up to Ray in Georgia.
DraftKings Announcer
Ray.
Steve Covino
What's up, Ray?
Patrick Mahomes
Hey, what's up, Ray?
Steve Covino
Hey, what's going on?
Patrick Mahomes
Hey, by the way, Ray, seriously, like you think Lamar, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, you think they're better than me? Like I'm not in the Pro Bowl?
Ryan Music
Yeah, I do.
Danny G
Because I'm a Raiders fan.
Ryan Music
I do think they're better.
Patrick Mahomes
Let's go hang up on this guy. I don't like this guy.
Danny G
Oh, man, you picked the right line here. Music. All right, here are the rules for Showtime of Homes NFL Trivia. The first contestant with two correct answers is the champ. If there's a tie, we have a tiebreaker question. Your name is your buzzer, but you do have to wait until all three possible answers are read. If there's two wrong answers in a row, we move on to the next question. Are you ready?
Ryan Music
Let's go.
Danny G
Let's get it on.
Patrick Mahomes
All right, round one. Patrick Mahomes. I'm here and I'm coming for this record. Which NFL QB holds the record for most passing yards in a single game? Is it A, Joe Burrow, B, Dan Fouts, or C, Norm Van Brocklin?
Ryan Music
Rich.
Danny G
Rich.
Steve Covino
I think Dan felt.
Ryan Music
No, you'd be wrong. Yeah, you're thinking wrong, Ray.
Danny G
For the Steel, Van Van Brock. Yes.
Ryan Music
Oh, nice.
Patrick Mahomes
Most passing yards, single game, 554 yards.
Danny G
Lawler back in the day.
Ryan Music
Like that.
Steve Covino
Burrow was pretty close. This year. One of those games. I got to look that up. It was five something. All right.
Patrick Mahomes
And Cousins, too. No.
Danny G
Yeah. Ray is halfway to a CNR Swiggy. All right, we move on to round two.
Patrick Mahomes
Round two. Patrick Mahomes here. Pro Bowler should be.
Ryan Music
Hi, Patrick.
Patrick Mahomes
What was I once quoted saying about my wheels?
Steve Covino
Your wheels?
Patrick Mahomes
My wheels. Throughout my whole football career, I've always known I wasn't the fastest guy. B. Luckily for me, in game, speed is different than being timed in the 40. Or C, it doesn't matter. If I'm trying to run on a broken ankle, the refs will make sure I limp to a first down.
Ryan Music
Oh, well, this is hard.
Patrick Mahomes
What was I quoted saying about my wheel, Rich?
Steve Covino
C. No, no, no, Ray.
Danny G
Okay, Ray, let's go with B.
Steve Covino
No, you be wrong. Spot.
Ryan Music
Spot.
Danny G
I'm gonna take A. Yeah, we're throwing that question out. Scrolling it out now. All right, we move on to round three.
Ryan Music
Round three.
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes here. By the way, Covino and Rich slaying it in for calling on the herd. Just want to say that you guys, honestly, I think you guys are like the best in the game.
Danny G
Kissing butt because they pay you to come on their afternoon.
Patrick Mahomes
All the affiliates should probably add your show because you get the big guest, Patrick Mahomes here.
Ryan Music
We make it to the radio Pro Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes
This guy once told me that he wished he had me as a QB during his career, Bill Parcell's Tuna was the head coach for how many NFL teams? A, 3, B, 4 or C, 5.
Danny G
Ray. Ray. For the win. It's A.
Ryan Music
No, no. So confident.
Danny G
Rich, Rich for the steal.
Steve Covino
Four teams, right? So.
Danny G
Yes.
Ryan Music
Can you name them?
Steve Covino
Jets, Giants, Patriots, and last Cowboys.
Ryan Music
Yeah. There he is.
Danny G
Extra credit. All right, so Ray and Rich both on the board as we move to the next round here.
Patrick Mahomes
All right. Round four. Which franchise infamously ran out of time during the 2007 draft at pick number seven? A, the Vikings, B, the Titans, or C, the Bears?
Ryan Music
Ryan.
Danny G
Oh, Ryan got in there first.
Spotty
Vikings.
Ryan Music
A.
Danny G
Yes.
Patrick Mahomes
Got it.
Danny G
Where we at, Danny G. So Ray, Rich, Ryan on the board as we moved around five.
Steve Covino
Wow.
Patrick Mahomes
It's getting heated.
Ryan Music
Yeah.
Danny G
Three way tie.
Ryan Music
All right.
Patrick Mahomes
Almost as heated as me when I found out I didn't make the Pro Bowl.
Danny G
Sorry.
Steve Covino
Honestly.
Danny G
Next.
Ryan Music
Maybe next year.
Steve Covino
Aggravating.
Ryan Music
Maybe next year.
Patrick Mahomes
All right, who's the third leading rusher in the NFL behind Saquon and Derrick Henry? A, Josh Jacobs, Bijan Robinson. Or C, Karen Williams?
Danny G
Ray Ray for the win. Hey, Josh Jacobs. No. So close.
Ryan Music
So confident.
Steve Covino
I know.
Danny G
Ryan, Ryan, Ryan for the win.
Steve Covino
C Kyron Williams Music takes his first title with this man.
Ryan Music
A Swiggy.
Danny G
All right, well, we thank you for listening to the herd there in Georgia.
Patrick Mahomes
He doesn't care. I guess maybe he cares about this. Cause I'm working on my own pitch, guys. What do you think? You know I'm big into catch up, right? I'm thinking about making my own cereal mix.
Steve Covino
Oh, like the Kelsey mix? Yeah.
Patrick Mahomes
I'm thinking about combining Count Chocula with Frankenberry and Booberry Mahomes Monster mix.
Ryan Music
What do you guys think?
Steve Covino
I love.
Ryan Music
Come on.
Patrick Mahomes
What do you guys think? Come on, guys.
Steve Covino
It's a good one.
Patrick Mahomes
Got my own Pro bowl going on, by the way.
Steve Covino
And congrats on your upcoming baby. All right, guys.
Patrick Mahomes
Thank you.
Steve Covino
Hey, hey. I'm out.
Patrick Mahomes
Later, guys. And Rich, you guys rule. Later, guys.
Steve Covino
Thank you.
Danny G
Broke Patrick Mahomes love when he comes into the studio.
Steve Covino
Hey, look at that. You know what I told Great he.
Ryan Music
Was fired up to?
Steve Covino
Hey, Kavita. Music. I totally forgot that year when the Vikings missed their pick.
Spotty
Oh, yeah.
Steve Covino
What a blunder. Danny G. Is that one of those things that goes under the radar is like, what a.
Danny G
For sure.
Steve Covino
What a bonehead move.
Spotty
Well, you know what it is, really is the draft has developed into such an event in the past, like five to 10 years that. That falls just outside of that window where it wasn't such a monumental television event where if that happened now, oh, it would be. It would be a story for. Until the next football season. Till training camp.
Ryan Music
You know what? You made Me think of music again, Ryan. Music here at Music Reports on social media. You made me think of the COVID year when he did it from his basement. Remember that? The wood panels and his weak ass desk probably there in his socks doing the draft. Remember how weak that was?
Steve Covino
Bill Belichick, like sit at a table with his dog.
Spotty
That's right.
Steve Covino
That's what I mentioned it earlier. Oddly that. Remember I said Cliff Kingsbury, we saw. He had the sweetest house ever.
Ryan Music
And again, as we dive into 2025, it's such a weird timestamp to me to think that all that was five years ago. You're like, what?
Steve Covino
And you talk about the draft.
Ryan Music
Yeah.
Steve Covino
Two things come to mind. Number one, if you watch that great 30 for 30 from Elway to Marino, back then we're talking early 80s. A lot of us were alive in the early 80s. That was, that was such a different draft world. Like the guys are sitting with like beige, you know, landlines, like just in a conference room, like, hey, I think our pick is in. The draft went from simply a functional, hey, it's a draft college. To the NFL to a spectacle, fans viewing parties, everything.
Spotty
I remember. So the great writer Peter King, who's now retired from being a full time columnist, but he tells a story. I don't remember the year, but he tells a story about when he was, I think it was a Cincinnati based writer and he met with the GM of the Bengals at the time. And the guy goes, I'll tell you who our picks are. And he's like, really? He goes, well, yeah, you're gonna print it in the paper. We'll already have the picks in before tomorrow's morning paper comes out. So that's how much media has changed is the GM of an NFL team gave him the list of who they were going to pick and he printed it in the paper because they knew it wasn't going to come out until the next day.
Ryan Music
Wow.
Steve Covino
And to think that, like, it's like a family affair now. People gather around, you know, the guys have the hat ready to put on. They, you know, they're all their friends and family. And there's always a story where some guy's girlfriend jumps on him too quick and the mom pushes her away. It's become such a big deal.
Danny G
Millions of spectators just crowd the streets of whatever city this is happening in now. Rotating the cities. And Rich, this is some cool trivia. You said it's not talked about enough. Who was the next team on the board after the Vikings missed their dead 15 minute deadline there.
Steve Covino
That's a good question.
Danny G
It was the Jags and they rushed in to grab what quarterback?
Steve Covino
Mark Brunel.
Danny G
Nope.
Steve Covino
What year is it again?
Danny G
2007.
Steve Covino
Yeah. So Blake portals.
Danny G
No. Think of a famous limp in college being helped by some teammates who they pick Byron Leftwich.
Steve Covino
Oh, man, I suck. You know, I wanted music. You should do this. You should roll with this from now on. You should tell people because who's gonna tell you you're wrong? You should say that you're the creator of the do do do do do do do do.
Spotty
The draft sound.
Steve Covino
You compose the draft sound and you own it. Who's going to tell you wrong?
Spotty
That's right.
Steve Covino
No one's going to cry.
Ryan Music
Didn't John Tesh do it?
Steve Covino
See, maybe he did.
Ryan Music
I don't know.
Steve Covino
Well, hey, we got more Covino and Rich. I know we want to talk about some of these incentives to be watching out for on Sunday because like we said before, we love the NFL, but truth be told, Vikings, Lions, all eyes on maybe the biggest regular season game in the last 25 years of the NFL. There's so much at stake. But besides that, it's really a battle of draft position and who's resting, who's not. Unless Tampa really blows it, then you know they're going to end up winning that division. Atlanta's out unless Denver blows it against all of Kansas City's backups, Miami and Cincinnati, just sitting there hoping and wishing so. Week 18 what to look out for. We'll get to that next. In for the Herd, Cavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio.
Rich Davis
Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd, weekdays at noon Eastern, 9am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1 and the iHeartRadio app.

Thanks again guys for hanging out with us. We have a lot to get to. We got weekend hobnobbing later this hour. What you need to watch this weekend and right now, Rich, it's a bit of a cross promotion. I mentioned our bonus podcast over promised again on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. We talked about all the incentives this week in the NFL because we were debating is it week 18 or week W E E?
Steve Covino
I mean it's a K18 sort of week 18, but there's incentives and I there's a couple more that I keep popping up. Like not necessarily fully based on the regular season, but I just read the Baker Mayfield, not only does he have a ton of incentives in his contract making the playoffs, he gets an extra half a mil for every playoff. For every playoff victory, it's another half a million dollars. So Baker just keeps making money if the Bucks keep winning. So there's definitely incentives for Baker to definitely win this week.
Ryan Music
So man, you thought he played hard before, you're going to see a different level.
Steve Covino
But his dude, Mike Evans, that's one of the big ones people talking about. So if you need stuff to watch, you try to make a fun prop bet. Mike Evans is five receptions and 85 yards away from a $3 million incentive to kick in.
Ryan Music
We already established that the only game that we really care about is Minnesota at Detroit. Right.
Steve Covino
But maybe maybe Kansas City, Denver maybe if you're pulling for the Dolphins or Bengals to slide in.
Ryan Music
Right.
Steve Covino
But otherwise it's Denver wins are in. But you're right, the only one is that Sunday night game. But as far as incentives, I think I wouldn't be shocked if Tampa piled on. People are saying like, you know, it's week 18. Is anyone going to really go all out? I think Bucks are hosting the Saints and Saints are bad. It's minus 14. I don't know, maybe by a half a point. Get it down to 13 and a half. I can't see the Bucks not winning by a couple touchdowns.
Ryan Music
I think the coolest one. And again we talked about this on over promised if you want to take a further dive, Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page, but it's the Geno Smith one because he could make up to $6 million extra if he gets 186 yards. Easy wins.
Steve Covino
By the way, the 186 is easy.
Ryan Music
That's easy. And then he had to reach 10 total wins. So he needs to win and then he has to have a past completion percentage of 70% or over, right. So if he's able to accomplish all three things there, he gets $6 million extra. So 2 million for every accomplishment there in incentives.
Steve Covino
The easiest one for him, over 186 yards. Right. Gino's going to put 200 yards, 2 million the win. You're playing against the Rams in LA. They locked up that four seed. That's not changing.
Ryan Music
Yeah, but.
Steve Covino
And Matthew Stafford's resting.
Ryan Music
He's playing for another 2 million.
Steve Covino
No, no Kyron Williams, no Matthew Stafford. Cooper cup puking. The kua these, you know, you're not seeing any of the stars of the Rams, right? So you got the 2 million in the passing yards. You probably got the 2 million for the win.
Ryan Music
So that's 4 million right there. Like this is reason to watch anyway, just to see Geno ball right here.
Steve Covino
I hate to say I'm not a mathematician and I wouldn't even know.
Ryan Music
And that passing percentage one's the tricky one.
Steve Covino
Hold on. Do you have a TI82?
Ryan Music
I don't.
Steve Covino
Do you have an old school calculator? What was the one you had with the little face on it?
Ryan Music
Little professor? Yeah, I got my Texas Instrument 1.
Steve Covino
His completion percentage right now is like 69.7 something. What would he have to do week 18 to get it to 70? Like if Geno Smith in the fourth quarter, if you see him just dump off like seven screen passes in a row, I think we know what's up.
Ryan Music
But yeah, he's got 2 million at stake.
Steve Covino
But I'm saying if 2 million's at stake, I don't know if you audible to, you know, 10 screen passes in the second half. I wonder if like 22 out of 26 does it. Does, you know, does 25 out of 30 do it? I don't know. I don't know what he would need. But that's the one that's a little tricky. But Geno Smith has stuff to play for. And listen, we always talk about a DraftKings sportsbook. He could use Collins Code or our CR Show. I think it might be a fun thing to do because the games, like how the hell do you predict Raiders hosting Chargers? How do you predict that? How do you predict Washington going into Dallas? Like these are games that you don't know who's really playing, how long they're playing. Some teams don't really, you know, benefit from winning.
Ryan Music
Like the player incentives are just added reason to watch because you're going to see extra fight. Look, I'M not saying that this is the sole motivator. You know, guys like Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield play hard regardless. But when you're playing for extra millions of dollars, even though they make a lot of money, you know you're gonna see some extra fight, some extra game. And it makes us think about how different life would be if life, if our life, if everybody's life was incentive based, especially at the workplace, you think of how lazy everybody's become, especially after Covid. As we established before, people don't even want to show up to the office. People don't want to put pants on. People wearing pajama pants since the beginning of the holiday break.
Steve Covino
I know it. Listen, the market wouldn't dictate it. We're not going to change the way athletes are paid. So this is pipe dreaming, bro. As the kids. This is big dreaming, bro. But imagine if athletes and just everyone in life got paid on an incentive scale. You could say that's the sales world, right? You could say people get their bonuses and commissions if you're in the sales world. But most jobs are not commission sales based, right? So if I told you Juan Soto signed to the Mets, let's say the base salary is less. But yo, you hit over 280, that's five mil. You hit over 40 home runs, that's five mil.
Ryan Music
You wouldn't see people hot dogging it. You would see people sitting out. You would see people playing for their money. And I think more life, forget about sports. More life, period, should be incentive based because people like, we're almost forcing people to. To work that system because we've gotten lazy. Look at the customer service we have accepted in the past few years. People have gotten lazy. I think things should be incentive based. You're gonna see the results this weekend. And by the way, Greg Mercer in Pittsburgh. Mercer, man, hit us up in our comments on over promised. And I think he's a scientist, this dude. He knows his numbers. He goes, if 70% is right, he could throw for 67% completion in his last game and remain at 70. He says.
Steve Covino
Wait, he gets what?
Ryan Music
He says that Gino is at 70.2% right now.
Steve Covino
Okay? So he.
Ryan Music
Oh, he. If 70.2 is correct, he could throw for 67% in his last game and remain at 70. Like 20 for 30 would be a normal amount for throws a game. So he's saying that could do all three? Yeah, he could do all three. If that's the case, that means Geno would make again if he throws for 186 yards. If he gets the win, totaling 10 and he stays at 70, 70% completion, that means he could get 6 million extra this weekend.
Steve Covino
Let me.
Ryan Music
But again, imagine if your relationship was based on that incentives. You'd be getting extra loving, you'd be getting all sorts of results that you're just not getting in regular life anymore.
Steve Covino
Well, to break it down to something really simple, when someone puts the gratuity already on a check, does that give them any incentive to work harder?
Ryan Music
Hell no.
Steve Covino
No way.
Ryan Music
You just don't care.
Steve Covino
I mean, I get it because they're trying to avoid cheap skates, but when you're at a. Let's say you're at a party of 8 to 10 of your buddies watching football at the bar when the check comes and they already put the gratuity in, part of me is like, I may have given you more, but I'm not gonna give you more now. You already put it on. Like if life was incentive based, I do wonder how that would change things.
Ryan Music
If there was a way, I mean, even in our job, right, let's say ratings wise, right. That would be the way to measure.
Steve Covino
They do that. So that's a thing in our world.
Ryan Music
No, but if we were getting. Because I haven't gotten any of you.
Steve Covino
No, I'm saying get more syndicated. And some of them, if you're in a local market like we have, Buddy, like our buddy Nico in Arizona, people.
Ryan Music
Would be putting in extra effort. You don't think you'd be more of a stick as, as the rich and Cavino enriched to other people if our pay was determined on how well we did? You don't think you'd be like, hey, do this and do that and be more of a shot caller making sure people did everything.
Steve Covino
Like if they get us, like if every. If they were stakes for every day.
Ryan Music
That's what I'm saying. Yeah. You would care more.
Steve Covino
Well, hey, something to watch this Sunday.
Ryan Music
How different would life be if everything was incentive based?
Steve Covino
All right, well, hey, at Covino and Rich, you could hit us up there.
Ryan Music
Let's.
Steve Covino
Let's hit up Ryan for the hardline news. Let's go, bud. No, no, no.
Ryan Music
Turn on the news.
Rich Davis
This is the Herd line news.
Spotty
All right, guys. The Cowboys record of three straight 12 win seasons. Well, we all know that it's come to an end.
Steve Covino
Yes.
Spotty
Questions, though, continue to swirl about regarding Mike McCarthy and his status as their head coach going forward. Well, Jerry Jones was asked if the final game of the season will factor into that decision and here's what he had to say. Quote, no, the hay's in the barn as far as our staff is concerned. I don't think there's something that would happen out there Sunday impacting where we're going to go as we go forward, end quote. So, yeah, I'm trying to get a read it.
Steve Covino
Yeah, I mean, listen, it would feel.
Spotty
That means they're gonna let him go because if they've already made a decision, there would have been an announcement on a contract extension.
Steve Covino
I mean, all right, so they lose to Washington on Sunday. Let's say that happens. Washington practically a touchdown favorite. They're going to try to stay fresh, playing some of their starters, 7 and 10. Dak wasn't there for a lot of the season. CD Lamb in his injuries, but, you know, do you give McCarthy the benefit of the doubt and say stick with him? Is that even. Is that even a question? Would you be shocked if they stuck with McCarthy?
Spotty
I would not be shocked.
Steve Covino
I mean, listen, Jerry Jones just has a reputation for making those moves. Well, you could say the same. Kyle Shanahan. Injuries had a rough season and they have given full confidence in John lynch and Shanahan to continue forward. I don't know if Mike McCarthy's given that grace in Dallas. Sure, we'll see.
Spotty
Yeah, I don't know if they'll keep him. But if you were to present the pro Mike McCarthy argument is this is his fifth season as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, and at least in the regular season, he has either won 12 games or Dak has been hurt. Those are the two options.
Steve Covino
Yeah, it's like that. You see that 49ers stat over the last, like 20 some years, they either make it to the NFC championship game or miss the playoffs.
Ryan Music
Right.
Steve Covino
It's interesting. Like, you can think of another guy like that. Like, how do you feel about the dolphins? Mike McDaniels is. How is that like one more year? And it's like, hey, if they. If this team doesn't show signs of playoff life.
Spotty
Yeah.
Steve Covino
Then is that a failed experiment?
Spotty
I guess when it's about wins and losses, that's how it generally stacks up. Let's turn our attention to another head coach in the NFL. Well, actually, let's do a group of them. We are, of course, looking at some of the end of season awards. We've already talked a lot about Pro bowl selections. Well, here's another accolade up for grabs. Coach of the year. And if you look at DraftKings, there is a current runaway favorite for Coach of the year.
Steve Covino
Hmm. What do you think it is?
Ryan Music
Dan Campbell.
Spotty
Dan Campbell, second.
Steve Covino
Oh, Minnesota.
Spotty
Kevin O'Connell. Kevin O'Connell is your answer. Currently -1000. Dan Campbell in second. Plus 550. Andy Reid. Plus 1400. Dan Quinn. Plus 2000. Jim Harbaugh, Sean McVay, Mike Tomlin, and then Sean Payton. I'm actually kind of surprised Sean Payton wasn't higher on that list. He was behind, like, even a Sean McVay.
Steve Covino
Who.
Spotty
Look, the Rams have had a nice season, but I feel like the expectations were way more outperformed on the Broncos behalf than the Rams.
Steve Covino
Listen, if you listen to any host on any network, six months ago, no one would have thought the Broncos made the playoffs over teams like Cincinnati. The jets had high hopes like they were. There were teams that are out of the mix. Jacksonville showed no signs of life, you know, so.
Ryan Music
But that. That makes the game even juicier this weekend.
Steve Covino
Juicy. Juicy.
Ryan Music
Who's playing for coach of the year? Sure.
Steve Covino
Yeah. By the way, they call O'Connell. I think he's the quarterback whisperer.
Spotty
Oh, yeah. Just knows how to get Sam Darnold right. We'll finish up with this another day. Another NBA star would hope that Stars could find himself a new team. The Heat took an L against the Pacers last night. That's hardly the story. This is actually the story we're keeping an eye on. Here's Jimmy Butler after the game.
Steve Covino
I want to see me get my joy back from playing basketball, wherever that may be. We'll find out here pretty soon. But I want to get my joy back. I'm happy here off the court, but I want to be back to somewhat dominant. I want to hoop, and I want to help this team win. Right now, I'm not doing that.
Ryan Music
Can you get your joy back here on the court? Probably not.
Katie Couric
No.
Ryan Music
Bold statement right there. I mean, there's nothing really to dissect. He's not happy there. He's happy in Miami, but just not on the court with that team. And he's not going to help this team win. He wants out.
Steve Covino
They're not great, but they're. They're over.500. I mean, and that's. That's in the. In the Eastern Conference. Not a lot of teams over.500.
Ryan Music
Jimmy Butler is one of those mood guys, and, you know, I'm not used to seeing him, this discontent. Like, this guy does not look happy there. And that's not the Jimmy Butler you want to see. You're not going to win.
Steve Covino
He's not. Sad face coffee.
Ryan Music
You're not. Yeah, but you're not going to win with sad Jimmy Butler. That's just not even in his character. He's not happy. It's clear as day.
Steve Covino
All right. Thank you, Ryan.
Ryan Music
Thank you.
Rich Davis
Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by the Herd lie news.
Steve Covino
All right. Well, hey, coming up, what to watch this weekend, of course, the NFL. Of course, some NBA. But what else is going on that you might want to keep your eye on? We do it. It's called Weekend Hobnobbin. And for Colin More, Covino and Rich next.

Ryan Music
Happy New Year. Hope you're having a great one. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Steve Covino
You taking down your Christmas stuff?
Ryan Music
Yeah. Because there's no real fun football to watch until late at night. So, yeah, that's my plan.
Steve Covino
It's like the weakest part of the year as far as once you take down those Christmas decorations, walls look empty, everything, your house looks lame. Like everything looks empty. And like, this is where we live. Where's all the decorations? Then again, like I always say, you snap your fingers in the Super Bowls here. January is like the longest yet shortest month. Next week I'm excited because this weekend you got, of course, week 18, which is a little lackluster like we've been talking about, but wild card weekend, now that you have six games and they extend into that Monday night. Now that's that to me, second only to the divisional weekend, because divisional weekend in the NFL to me is the by far. Like when you're, when you're down to the final eight teams. And I'd like to say we know those, those eight teams, but there's always one team that sneaks in. But Ryan, you and I were talking about how in the AFC it would be shocking if it wasn't Kansas City, Baltimore, Buffalo and whatever that fourth team is there. They're almost just like Miss Congeniality.
Ryan Music
Yeah.
Spotty
Just happy to be a part of it.
Steve Covino
Like maybe the Texans or Pittsburgh or someone. But it really is a matter of.
Spotty
Yeah, like four weeks ago you thought, oh, wow, this Steelers team could be one of those. And now the last three weeks you're like, this Steelers team is not the one.
Steve Covino
I hate to say this because we have a lot of friends and listeners that are Steelers fans, but midway through the season I said, guys, really happy for you. But Kavino would back me up. Never at any point did I believe that they were better than the Ravens in that division, but because they led that division up until a few weeks ago.
Spotty
And I said, beat him head to head that first matchup.
Steve Covino
I said, dude, they're good, but they're not like, 13 and 4, 12 and 5 good. I'm like, they will come back to reality. And that's exactly what happened. They're likely a 10, seven, you know, type of team makes the playoffs, but AFC, to me, sort of set. And then the NFC. Do you think that you could say Sunday night's game is the most impactful regular season game in the last decade?
Ryan Music
Oh, yeah. Like we already said, there's so many. So many reasons to watch whoever wins.
Steve Covino
Glides to the NFC championship and the other team is, you know, battling or what.
Ryan Music
Whoever wins Coach of the year, in my opinion. Yeah, that's how I see it.
Steve Covino
I mean.
Ryan Music
And, yeah, just.
Steve Covino
Just take a look for one second at the different paths these teams would take, and then we'll get into Weekend Hobnobin. I know when you. All right here. Let's. Let's look at the playoff situation. If Detroit is the 1 seed, right? Then Minnesota then has to go away. Go play in Tampa. Yeah, then they got to play. Then they got to go play Detroit again, because that would be a wild card, probably the lowest seed. Then they have to go play in Detroit again. Like, it is so much at stake.
Ryan Music
Yeah.
Steve Covino
So much at stake. Now Minnesota. I think Minnesota wins. Viking fans should be super excited that you might make it to the Super Bowl. So you know what? Let's do it. Let's get to Weekend Hobnobbin Living for the weekend.
Rich Davis
You're winning bets for talking points if you get stuck socializing.
Steve Covino
You ever done anything dangerous? You ever danced with the devil in the Pale Man?
Ryan Music
That is dangerous.
Rich Davis
Friday brings us Weekend Hobnob.
Ryan Music
So of course you're gonna be watching Minnesota at Detroit and all your foosball, but this is what else you need to check out this weekend so you have something to talk about when you go back to work. Officially, Weekend Hobnobbin. We do it every Friday on the Covino and Rich show. I'm gonna start off by recommending a movie I already saw, so I'm recommending it to you. And that is Nosferatu.
Steve Covino
Stop it.
Ryan Music
Yes, yes. The story of Nosferatu. Oh, yes. Yes. I'm telling you, you can say poor man's Dracula. I'm saying this could be nominated for a few awards. I enjoyed it.
Steve Covino
People that don't know Nosferatu because I did it when you do that voice, it just weirds me out.
Ryan Music
Nosferatu.
Steve Covino
I don't know what that means. It's like a weak ass Dracula.
Ryan Music
It's good, man. I say you go to the theater, check it out. Also, you got the 82nd Golden Globes. The annual Golden Globes. But our pal, our good pal who blew up after the Tom Brady roast, Nikki glazer's hosting Paramount plus that's on the 5th at 8pm so you got your Golden Globes. Not a big fan of the Golden Globes, but I'm a fan of Nikki Glazer. Rooting for her American pickers. Big fan of Mike wolf. Complete Season 25 available on Hulu this weekend. And can I shamelessly. Actually, I'm just gonna promote it. Nothing shameful about it. Over promised our bonus podcast on fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. Episode 74. We talk about player incentives this weekend and we do that Kelsey mix cereal taste test live on over promised Netflix.
Steve Covino
Squid Game season two. I'm up to episode four now.
Ryan Music
I can't believe how old the main dude got though. I didn't know. I didn't know it was the same dude.
Steve Covino
He looked like he aged the way a president ages.
Danny G
Turned into somebody turned into an instant meme.
Ryan Music
Seriously.
Steve Covino
But if you could get first big, get past the first two episodes, which is a lot of setup and like, I'll be honest, like, how would you even describe it? Like storyline. But to me, do you watch that for the storyline or just the. The squid game itself?
Ryan Music
I thought the first episode was pretty good.
Steve Covino
So Screed Game season two, that's trending. Number one. If you did not catch it at the theater and you want to watch the wifey, the kids, the girlfriend, Wicked, you could watch now from the comfort of your own home.
Ryan Music
No way. Really?
Steve Covino
30 bucks to buy, 20 bucks to rent. But then again, that's like the price of a movie taken in some places. So Wicked's available to watch at home. Germany. Love is blind. Love is blind.
Ryan Music
That desperate for trash TV that you're gonna watch a German edition of this?
Steve Covino
Maybe not. Nate Margazi Deutsch. Nate Barghetzi's stand up Special. I thought that was pretty good. You can watch it with the kids too. It's sort of, you know, rated for family.
Ryan Music
He takes a lot of pride in being family friendly. He's a funny dude.
Steve Covino
And if you want, there's a show where you live on an island with the. With your in laws. This is a dating show on Netflix. How would you.
Ryan Music
How Would you.
Steve Covino
You're in. Your girlfriend's parents are cool, but would you want to be on an island stuck with them?
Ryan Music
I want to be on an island stuck with you.
Steve Covino
Yeah. And of course, you've talked about it. I've talked about it on our regular show if you're not on it yet. Dexter, Original sin.
Ryan Music
Yeah. Now you're talking.
Steve Covino
Fantastic. The casting.
Ryan Music
If you.
Steve Covino
If you love Dexter. Back in the day on Showtime.
Ryan Music
It's a prequel.
Steve Covino
It really is fantastic. Really good. Anything on your radar, Ryan? What are you watching this weekend?
Spotty
So I'm notoriously bad about keeping up with shows during the football season, but now that we're getting a little bit of breathing room, I'm trying to catch up on Silo Apple tv. So I'm.
Steve Covino
I caught up last night, so. Good.
Spotty
I'm three episodes into this newest season, so we're. We're getting there. We're starting to catch up a little bit.
Steve Covino
It's getting really good.
Spotty
Okay.
Steve Covino
Do you think, by the way, if you don't watch Silo, do you think there's going to be some type of residential resolution at the end, like we're going to realize what happened to the world?
Spotty
I certainly hope so.
Steve Covino
There's no payoff. I'm going to be aggravated.
Spotty
Yes. Yes.
Steve Covino
Well, you know, let's talk about this off the. I want to talk about Silo. Danny G. What's on your radar?
Danny G
We talk so much. NFL that I usually give you some college. Just some smaller bowl games today and tomorrow. We're waiting for next Thursday and Friday, of course, the. The Cotton bowl and the Orange Bowl, Notre Dame at Penn State and Ohio State at Texas. So can't wait for that big payoff.
Ryan Music
Nice.
Steve Covino
Anything on your radar?
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Ryan Music
You gave away all the ones that I wanted to watch. I wanted to watch. I gotta catch up on Squid game.
Steve Covino
I gotta.
Ryan Music
I want to watch Wicked because I haven't seen it yet.
Steve Covino
Shrinking on Apple TV is a good show, too. Shrinking's great. So, hey, lots to watch. And of course, week 18 of the NFL. Enjoy. Thank you, Colin, for letting us fill in music. You the man. Appreciate you, Ryan. Damon G. Spotty, we'll see you later. Arriba, Derchi, baby.
Ryan Music
See you in the promised land. Goodbye, guys.

Podcast Summary: The Herd with Colin Cowherd – “Hour 3 – Yankees Scruff, NFL Contract Incentives”
Release Date: January 3, 2025
Host: Colin Cowherd
Produced by: iHeartPodcasts and The Volume
In the third hour of "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," host Colin Cowherd, alongside co-hosts Steve Covino, Rich Davis, Ryan Music, Danny G, and Spotty, delves into two primary topics: the New York Yankees' stringent facial hair policies and the evolving landscape of NFL contract incentives. The discussion is peppered with interactive segments, including a lively trivia game featuring NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes.
Overview:
The conversation kicks off with a critique of the New York Yankees' outdated free agency practices, particularly focusing on their mandatory facial hair regulations for players. The hosts argue that enforcing a clean-shaven look may be an unnecessary and restrictive policy in modern baseball.
Key Points:
Polar Bear Pete Alonzo's Free Agency Struggles:
Polar Bear Pete Alonzo is highlighted as a case study of a player whose market value may not align with the Yankees' offers. The discussion emphasizes how market dynamics dictate player worth more than team-specific policies.
Impact on Team Morale and Player Satisfaction:
The hosts observe that enforcing daily shaving can be a mundane yet intrusive requirement that may affect players' comfort and self-expression, especially for younger athletes accustomed to more personal freedoms.
