I guess the game that you you got a picture on a dartboard and you throw in the knife at the picture. Now I just take down the picture and I put up the other picture and I'm on the other side of it. But the energy is exactly the same.

Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
Welcome back to the Richard Sherman Podcast. I'm excited to bring on an incredible guest. Five years in the NFL, 216 tackles, 17 sacks and two force fumbles with the Dallas Cowboys. Now he's with the faithful, the San Francisco 49ers. Please help me welcome defensive tackle Osa Adigizu. Appreciate you joining us, brother man, appreciate
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
you having me, bro.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
It's my pleasure, man. So tell me how you feeling? Obviously it's a, it's a big transition. You had just signed a big extension for $80 million four year 80 million dollar extension with the Cowboys and then you get traded to the San Francisco 49ers. It seems like there's a bit of a regime change going on in Dallas. Was it a surprise or what is it expected?
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
I mean, I can't say it was like, super unexpected, like, because you read a little bit of the writing on the wall. I'm a very observant guy, you know what I mean? So there's like, there was some telltale signs that it was a possibility, but, like, at the end of the day, I was just like, ah, I'm gonna just keep working. And if it happens, something happens and it doesn't. I mean, cool. You know, definitely. I mean, I'm. There's, there's still a mix of emotions. I'm not gonna lie. I'm definitely happy to be here, you know what I mean? It's a great team. Like, had a great time meeting my teammates, you know what I mean? Meeting the coaches. Glad to be here, working with everybody. It's a great organization from top to bottom. I feel like it's definitely just a winning mentality over here. So it's definitely. It's cool to be a part of that and go from one good organization to another one, you know, and just being in a great space, I feel like I'm part of the cavalry, you know what I'm saying? Like, I'm not coming to a place that's like rebuilding anything at all. Like, I'm just coming and adding to some. A great team and a lot of great players that's already here. So it's kind of awesome.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
It's really awesome. And it's, it's, you know, there was a bit of turmoil, obviously, between The San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. Just some intense games, you know, a bit of a rivalry that, that developed and we'll talk about that later. But it's still human nature, you know, it's just human nature. You, you go somewhere new, you know, you gotta. You gotta find a new home, you gotta transport your family, you gotta kind of turn your mind around because it's loyalty. You know, you feel loyalty to the team that you've been representing. You've been in the NFC east, you know, you're battling the Philadelphia Eagles. You, you locked into that mindset. Now you gotta learn to hate the, the Seattle Seahawks and the, the LA Rams, and you gotta get yourself in that mindset. But like you said, it's still a great organization and a great team to be a part of. But who was the first 49ers player or coach to reach out for you, reach out to you when. When everything happened,
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
I would say Coach Kasaragi was the first one to reach out. The D line coach, you know, he's a great D line coach. He reached out super happy, super excited, you know what I mean? And everyone was super excited to have me. So that was one thing that, like, in the moment, obviously, like, there's hurt there, but, like, one thing in the moment that I could definitely look at it and be like. Like, gave me a lot of, like, hope and happiness. I'm like, man, they're excited to have me. So it's like, I want to be in a place where I'm wanted. You know what I mean? So when they're. To see them that excited to receive me and stuff like that, it was. It was dope.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
Now, how. How has it been? Because I. I know Chris. Chris is fantastic. I. One of my favorite coaches. I love Chris with all my heart, but he's been known to be really great with. With defensive linemen, you know what I mean? Just such an attacking mentality. What. What have you. Gl during just your first few weeks
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
there, man, he's super intentional. Like, he watched all of my tape from last year, and we sat down, we talked about things, like, just a couple simple things, like not trying to reinvent the wheel, and he's been around, like, some of the best to ever do it. So he studies the game a lot. So like I said, he watched all of my tape from last year and like, the last couple years and sat down with me, and we're like, yo, we're going to work on these things, and this is what's going to help you improve and take you to that next level. And he has a plan in mind already.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
This. This D line is so. It's. It's a mix of. Of veteran and young guys. You know, you got Mikhail Williams, you got Alfred Collins, but then you got guys like Nick Bosa who are veteran guys. Have you had a chance to meet those guys and have conversations and what have those conversations been like?
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
Yeah, I mean, just me. And it's pretty simple. You know what I mean? Just kind of like, just regular, like, teammates getting to know guys, like, asking where everyone's from, stuff like that. I mean, we've been in meetings. I kind of asked, like, how Nick rushes, whether he's, like, kind of a reactive rusher. He has more of, like, a plan and stuff like that, just so I can kind of get my mind and fit it around that. And then other than that, just. You know, I think the first weekend I was out there, we all like barbecue. We went to Mikael's house. A lot of guys were over there. He was building up ribs. I made some burgers. Um, Will Bradley King made some wings. And, you know, everyone just kind of pitched in. We just ate, watched the draft and, you know, just building. Building that.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
That bond that's important, building the brotherhood, building that chemistry. Have you had a chance to. Obviously you've had a chance to talk to Kyle Shanahan. What did you. What did you think of him? Your first impressions versus what did you think? You know, you have a. You obviously have an impression of guys before you get somewhere and then you meet them and you. You know, sometimes it changes the way you think about him.
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
I mean, I didn't know too much about him as a person. I just knew, like, from what I heard, I haven't heard any bad things about the organization and the way he runs things over here. And I'm like, they've been in, like. You know what I mean? Team was in the super bowl past, like, two to past six. So I could look at that from the outside, looking in and be, like, doing something right. You know what I mean? And now being on the inside, I can see what that is, like, top to bottom. Even when I go in the cafeteria, like, they got everything that I need in there as far as, like, you can. You could do your dietary restrictions without having to bring in outside food or anything like that. Like, you can. You can kind of. You. You know, and if I ask for something, they'll order it. And, like, if it's not there, they'll get it there fast, like, whatever you need, like, and it's.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
It's.
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
It's pretty. It's pretty awesome.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
Yeah. You know, I can't. I. I can say a lot of positive things about San Francisco 49ers. I got to be there for three years and enjoyed every second of it. The training staff is great. The equipment staff is great.

Sure. Once upon a time, a mom needed a new car.

Podcast Host (Ad/Promo Voice)
She was tired mostly. But she went to Carvana.com and found a great car at a great price. No secret treasure map required. Did you have to fight a dragon? Nope. She bought it 100% online from her bed, actually.
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
Was it scary?

Honey, it was as unscary as car buying could be.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)

Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
What. What has been the biggest difference, just initially, I guess, between your time with the Dallas Cowboys and, you know, obviously you're talking about the dietary stuff, but just in terms of I, I guess on the field meetings, because I just remember I've only been at a Dallas Cowboys facility once. And it was so strange to me because it's right there smack dab in the middle of like a, like a business center. Like there's office buildings here, the field's like in the middle. And then there's. It seems like there's other businesses around. And I was like, I've never been part of a facility. You know, I've only played with the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and then the Bucks for a quick second. But I had never been to a facility that had other businesses in the same place the facility was in. So that was just an adjustment. But obviously there's been so much speculation about the San Francisco 49ers and then the, the electrical, you know, interference and you know, the power plant over there. Did that affect how you felt about this organization coming in or did that cross your mind at all?
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
Definitely crossed my mind. I can't say for sure whether it's true or not. I know that frequency are like, it's super important. You know what I mean? Like your body' kind of like a giant antenna. I even looked at some of the stuff with like the water when bro was talking to the water and he froze it and like the snowflakes and the patterns and stuff like that. So I know, like, I can't say whether or not, like, there's, it's concrete, but I know, like, it's real, you know what I mean? So I'm not sure how to feel about it one way or the other. It's, it's there though, whether I like it or not. So, you know, I'm not really going to let it get in the way of, or distract me from my work or anything like that or like blame anything on it. Like, I know I have a lot of recovery stuff at my disposal. I'm going do everything that I can to make sure I'm healthy, as I've always done, and then God got me on the rest, you know, no question,
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
no question about that. Have you had a chance to talk to Raheem Morris, the defense coordinator, about, you know, how they expect to use you? You, you've obviously been a, a well rounded and balanced defense tackle during your time. You're a great pass rusher, but you're also great against the run and very stout and you seem to, to be a hand in glove fit for, for what they've done in the past. Has he, has he talked to you at all about that or are you just kind of business?
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
I haven't sat down with him specifically about, about the things that we're doing. I just kind of like peep the, the way we've installed the, the things that we're doing, the identity that he's kind of established and we're, we're establishing as we're going about this. And, you know, I'm excited. I know it's a good scheme. I see some of the tools that I'm going to be allowed to use to make plays in the run game and I'm excited about that stuff. I feel like getting some handcuffs taken off of me a little bit to be able to, to be able to kind of have one of the better years that I've had against the run, if not the best year that I've had. Like, I'm looking forward to just being able to make plays within this scheme.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
Talk. Talk about, let's walk through that a little bit more about the handcuffs being taken off, because I've heard that a lot of times, especially when people get to Chris Kacerek and into his scheme and how, you know, it's like pin the ears back, attack, attack, attack. And sometimes fans can't understand what that means. You know, they're, they're like, isn't that always the case? And it's not because, you know, there's some defenses where you're too gapping. Sometimes you just hold your gap and you know it's somebody else's responsibility to run through, talk about what has, what is allowing you to take the handcuffs off. In regards to this game, I feel
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
like there's a good amount of variability in terms of not having to do the same thing all the time. I feel like when you have to do the same thing all the time, you're predictable. And when you're predictable in football, you're very beatable, you know what I mean? Obviously there's guys like, oh, I know what he's doing. You can't beat it. But like, at the same time you can because you can scheme around certain things. Like you can if you're doing the same thing. And I know where you're going to be at. I'm going to just be there before you get there. You know what I mean? You have to be able to keep people honest and be able to do different things and put different things on tape and being allowed to put those different things on tape, especially for myself. And the way I play is going to be awesome. Like, it's. And I've been saying that word a lot, bro, but I'm excited. Like, even the first day we had D line meeting, we talked about some of the techniques that I'll be able to use and the tools that I've been used to using and being able to use those with the freedom to be able to use it within the scheme because I'm a smart player, you know what I mean? So, like, knowing that in certain situations I'm allowed to do, like to, to do certain things and it's going to free up and make it easier to play up. Like, just like the. Obviously attack is going to be the main focus, but being able to do different things at different times is gonna only bring the attack to life more. Because now I may look like I'm about to attack, but I do something else. And you don't know exactly what's coming. You're going to slow down just, just a tick, and that's going to give me the edge.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
Yeah, it gives you the freedom within the scheme to be an individual, you know, to, to game plan and to attack and to, to use the, the things that you saw on tape, the weaknesses or the strengths or the, the leans of the offensive guard or the offensive tackle. I, I understand exactly what you're saying. It's, it's, it's not saying, hey, you just have to attack this gap you have to be here every single time. Like you, you don't have to take up blocks. You can be a playmaker within the scheme.

Lately I've been more mindful about what I wear each day, choosing pieces that feel relaxed and comfortable while still looking put together. It makes getting dressed so much easier. Quince has become my favorite because the fabrics are nice, the fits are simple and everything just works without over complicating it. Quince offers all the wardrobe essentials for the spring. For $34 you can get lightweight, breathable and comfortable shorts made from 100% European linen along with 100% Pima cotton shirt. I picked up one of their linen shirts for the summer and it's now a go to that I wear frequently. It's incredibly light and breathable, but it always maintains a neat and stylish appearance. Head to quince.com Richard for free shipping on your order and 365 day returns. That's quint.com forward slash Richard for free shipping and 365 day returns. Quint.com forward slash Richard how has been a younger brother affected your career? Because I, I mean you seem you you the youngest brother in your family and your oldest brother from what I understand played in the league. How. How has that been? Because I'm a younger brother but I'M a middle child, and I only had one older brother. You got other older brothers? That's. That sounds crazy.
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
Yeah, for one, just the guidance. There's a lot of. There's a lot of things that I knew going into college that a lot of my peers didn't know because they didn't have someone in their ear who'd been in the league who knew the ins and outs, who knew the pitfalls to avoid, and kind of just was telling me and giving me advice. So I had an edge from that standpoint, even if there was, like, certain talent gaps, just, like, from my mind, you know what I mean? My mind was ahead of the curve when I came in as a freshman, and I would say even as a rookie in the NFL, with that being said, it helped me a lot, just mentally just being able to take care of my body, have the discipline, knowing that, like, yeah, you got bets, and there was great bets when I got to the league, but, like, you know, you can't follow everything that the vets do, and that's what they're going to tell you. But, like, just knowing that going in and then just trusting what I, what I had and the knowledge that I built up to get to that point and just continuing to stay true to the things that I had learned, you know, that was probably, I'd say, the biggest thing that helped, just having an older brother that done it. He even helped me find my agent, you know what I mean? Helped me find training in Dallas, like, just stuff like that, like having somebody that can. That's done it before. And kind of one, he's reflecting on the mistakes that he made. He's giving me the game, you know.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
Yeah, it's. It's important. I mean, it definitely gives you a leg up on the competition when, when somebody's been through it, they can, they can help you avoid the issues that they dealt with, the, The, The. The mistakes that they made. So that's huge. That's huge going in and, and even for your potential growth, it's. It's almost like you start a step ahead of everybody else. So that's really cool. Do you still, you know, have the same relationship or has it grown since you've been in the league?
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
Definitely grown. I would say now it's more so. I would say we're kind of like, on equal footing in that, in that aspect, you know, where it's less of an advisory role because of. It was. It was advisory until, like, we got to a certain point, and now it's like, you know what you're doing, you know what I mean? And then we can, we can talk on equal footing because I have the experience and, and, you know, and obviously still looking out for me and stuff like that. But it's, it's definitely an out of the nest situation, like you got it, you know, and it was more of a partnership.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
Now, what are your goals for this season? Obviously, you know, this organization is always looking for a Super bowl. Even with all the injuries and everything happened last year. I'm sure the conversations around the building are super bowl, you, they bring in you, they bring in Mike Evans, you know, the, the Fred Warner's getting healthy, Bosa's coming back healthy. What, what are your personal goals and, and what do you think about the team's goals and, and their aspirations? Obviously, the NFC west is tough. Two teams from the NFC west were in the NFC Championship. The San Francisco 49ers lost to the eventual champion Seattle Seahawks. So there's going to be tremendous competition within the own division. But it has to feel good to be on our organization. Not to say the Dallas Cowboys, we're not trying to talk bad about anybody else, but it's just the mentality in this building. As you said before, they went to Super Bowls, you know, two of the last six Super Bowls, and it's always, they're always in the running for it. They're always in the mix at the end of the season. And you're about to be a part of that, man.
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
Definitely, definitely want to make the deep playoff run, bro, and get to the dance. I want to, I want to get that ring for sure. And being on a team that's, like I said, been in two of the last six is like, very hopeful going into the playoffs. I think they made it to the second round of the playoffs with a bunch of guys hurt, you know what I mean? And then just bringing guys like Dre Greenlaw back, bringing me in, Mike Evans and stuff like that is awesome because it's like I said, just being a part of that cavalry. But as far as, like, my personal goals, I'm not going to touch too much on that. Like, I know what they are, but I just know, like, for the past five years, I haven't scratched the surface of the player that I am. You know what I mean? It hasn't been put on full display, so I just plan on putting that on display.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
I love to hear that. I love to hear that. I look forward to seeing it. I think if anybody can, can allow for that freedom and allow you to unlock that potential. It's Chris Kaseric, man. He's one of the best at bringing the best out of his guys. And obviously you're going to be playing with other great players and. And you're held in high regard, and the influence that you're going to have on the young guys like Mikhail Williams and Alfred Collins is going to be huge. Is there. Did you. First off, did you see the schedule?
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
Yes. Yes.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
You got any games that you got circled? Any games that you're excited for? And I know. Don't give me the cliche answer of, man, they're all important because they all important. They all matter. But sometimes some are a little mean, a little more.
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
I mean, speaking to the rivalry, bro, this is a game that, for a long time I was this the. I mean, the game is like. It's the game that you. You got a picture on a dartboard and you throwing the knife at the picture. Now I just take down the picture and I put up the other picture and I'm on the other side of it. But the energy is exactly the same.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
I like that. I like that. I like that. People don't. People don't understand how many, like The San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys, that it used to be an old rivalry that was very intense, and it's become that again on both sides. I think there was some legit frustration, some legit anger, and. And now you're on the other side of that, and it's going to be. It's going to be fireworks for sure. Oh, man, I can't. I can't wait. I can't wait. You get to take all that's. Football is the ultimate sport because when you're frustrated about something, when you upset, you can literally go out there and take out your concerns and frustration out in the best possible way. Facts. You got any. You got anything else you want to say or you want to get off your chest? Obviously, mental health is a huge thing for you. From what I've read and what I understand and, you know, some of the things that happened in your childhood that have had a huge impact on how you approach the world and how you see things. Is there anything you want to say to the people about that or introduce the faithful to your mindset about.
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
I'm just trying to practice gratitude, bro. Happy Mental Health Awareness Month, by the way. Gratitude is just a big part of who I am. Radical positivity to the point where it can be annoying to talk to me sometimes because it seems like I'M out of touch with reality, but I just know how powerful your mind is. And just as much as you can destroy yourself, you could build yourself up, you know what I mean? And it's easy to be default negative and think of the worst outcome. So it's like you have to actually and very intentionally, like, combat that with positivity and think about how things can go right, you know, so even the trade initially, like, it hurt, but, you know, I had to quickly come to a realization that it didn't mean or didn't diminish my value at all as a player. It just means that my value was needed more in San Francisco than it
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
was in Dallas, no question. I love that an attitude of gratitude is always the best approach. I love that. And that's. That's a positive way to approach life, and that's a. A great quality to have about yourself. And, and like you said, it doesn't. I. I don't think it says anything about you as a player other than you. You continue to have a tremendous value in this league. A team is, is willing to, to part with draft picks and, and future considerations to make sure you're part of their organization, especially an organization that has aspirations of taking the team to the next level. And they obviously see something incredible in you and, and what you've put on tape and value what you could potentially contribute to this organization. Obviously, change is hard for everybody, but I'm. I'm excited for you and excited for your family and excited to see what you do for The San Francisco 49ers.
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
Yes, sir.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
And I appreciate you coming on to the show, man. It means a lot. I know you got a lot of stuff going on. It's a big transition, but you took the time out to speak to me today. If you got any questions for me, I'm happy to answer them, man.
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
Man, I wouldn't say I have any immediate questions, bro. I know I'm talking to a legend right now, but I'm like, dog, appreciate it. I got my average stack for you, bro. And I appreciate you taking the time to have me.
Richard Sherman (Podcast Host)
Yeah, brother, I'll be here all year, and that means a lot to me. You know, you. You play the game the right way, and that's all I tried to do, is play the game the right way, put good stuff on tape, play one in football, and I look forward to you having a tremendous amount of success this year. I'll be in your corner if you want to come back on, on the show after you have a three sack game. We'll be here to have you.
Osa Adigizu (NFL Player)
Yes, sir.
