Appreciate you.
Richard Sherman
Welcome back to the Richard Sherman Podcast. We got to talk about this Trent McDuffie trade to the Rams the Kansas City Chiefs traded Trent McDuffy to the Rams for a first round pick, a fifth round pick, a sixth round pick and a third round pick in 2027.
Co-host or Guest Analyst
Sheesh.
Richard Sherman
I wasn't expecting a corner to, to, to go for such a haul right now, but he is a all pro in 2023 and a second team all pro in 2024 with three career picks. I just, I think that price tag
Co-host or Guest Analyst
is a bit high.
Richard Sherman
Feels like the Rams kind of reached right here for a great player now. This is a great player and obviously the NFC west right now is an
Co-host or Guest Analyst
arms race and the Rams want to
Richard Sherman
keep up with the Seattle Seahawks. They were this close to making it to a Super bowl and they think this trip McDuffie trade gets them over the top.
Co-host or Guest Analyst
They think they are in a win
Richard Sherman
now mode and they have to stay competitive in this very, very competitive NFC west.
Co-host or Guest Analyst
So they're doing everything they can. But obviously they've traded away a lot of first round picks in the last 10 years. I think the only time they didn't trade away the first round pick is when they, when they drafted Jared Verse. But that seems like a bit much.
Richard Sherman
I, I would have thought you could get Trent McDuffie for a first round pick maybe the 2027 third like and that's it.
Co-host or Guest Analyst
But apparently they, they, they wanted to
Richard Sherman
make sure they got this deal done. We'll see how it ends up panning out. But for the Kansas City Chiefs, I think that this puts them in in kind of a rebuild mode.
Co-host or Guest Analyst
Maybe they don't expect Patrick Mahomes to get back in time this season. They think they're going to use this season to maybe rebuild and retool their roster and these draft picks will go a long way to to getting them to, that also frees up some money for them to, to spend other places to, to retain some guys to maybe pay some guys for, for, you know, more pass rushers. They got to secure this offensive line
Richard Sherman
and strengthen this offensive line for sure.
Co-host or Guest Analyst
Again, they're going to be in the running back market. We talked about them being in the, in the, the canine sweepstakes. So
Richard Sherman
the NFL free agency is starting
Co-host or Guest Analyst
off, I mean, it's starting off fast. It's, it's starting off with a flurry of moves.
Richard Sherman
And I, I, I, you guys tell me what you think of this move. I think that the Rams gave up a lot to get Trent McDuffie. Not that he's not worth it.
Co-host or Guest Analyst
I think he's a great player in the National Football League. That's not to be argued or to be debated, but that's quite the haul.
Richard Sherman
But cool, cool. You guys talk about that in the comments. You tell me what you think. Send me your thoughts. And in other NFL news, it appears that Trey Hendrickson and Kyler Murray will be free agents this offseason.
Co-host or Guest Analyst
Both teams confirmed they're not using the franchise tags on those players. Now. Trey Hendrickson is going to be a sought after name this, this offseason. Could the San Francisco 49ers be in the running? Could the Seattle Seahawks be in the running? I think both teams inquired on trading for him at different times and different points. So I think those conversations are going to be had.
Richard Sherman
But I think it also all depends
Co-host or Guest Analyst
on how the bidding war goes for Trey Hendrickson. If it gets too high, I think those two teams get out of it. If he wants to a chance to win a Super bowl and, and that's what's important to him. And winning and not money is the most important thing to him, then I think there's going to be some great conversations with some contenders that, that you know, he may have a chance to go to. I think those two would be the beginning of the discussions. Obviously you can't, can't count out Howie in Philadelphia. He always seems to figure out a way to put together some incredible teams and put together some incredible deals. Again, the Rams, no matter how deep you are at the D line, you can always be deeper. And you know how the NFC west is right now. They're going to continue to, to, to play that game. I think the Green Bay packers obviously spending a lot of money on the D line right now. But how do you feel about adding somebody else who can, who can get to that quarterback? There's a number of spots that, that, you know, it feels like he could go to. But I, I think this is going to be one we have to let play out and, and, and run its course because how high the salary cap has gone, I can't predict it. And money matters in this league. You know, people say I want to win, I want to win, no question about it.
Richard Sherman
But I like money.
Co-host or Guest Analyst
So Kyler Murray, there'll be a lot of stops, a lot of places that, that at least have the conversation about Kyler Murray because they have quarterback openings. I think the jets come to mind immediately as, as your first, like, hey, you know, what, what, what can they do to get him? Does it make sense for him to go there and, and would that make a difference? I'm sure he's had success in this league. He's, he's, he's had some seasons where, you know, he's been named a Pro Bowler. So if, if he has talent around him, if the offense is suited to his strengths, he can get the job done. So I think that's a spot for him. I'm trying to think what other spots really make sense for him. You know. Also, I don't know if the avenue is still open for him to go back to baseball. I remember he was drafted ninth overall by the Oakland A's. If that's, that was a conversation early on in his career right before he got his big deal. Is that conversation still open? I, I, I would, I would, you know, I, I don't have any ears in his camp, so.
Richard Sherman
We'll see, we'll see.
Co-host or Guest Analyst
I don't think the Minnesota Vikings make sense even though there's a, a bit of quarterback uncertainty there. Obviously the Indianapolis coach just transition tag Daniel Jones. So it looks like they, they feel like he's going to be their quarterback at least for the next season and, and they want to do a longer term deal with him apparently. So, you know, that's positive news for Daniel Jones because I wasn't sure situation would, would turn out. He was having a great season. Their offense, you know, was the talk of the league. And then he goes down with a major injury on a year where, you know, it looked like a revival season for his career. And, and so I'm, I'm happy for him that he was able to, to play well enough to earn himself the transition tag, which I think is 37 and some change million dollars.
Richard Sherman
And we'll see, we'll see, we'll see
Co-host or Guest Analyst
what happens with, with Kyler, what he decides. I think the jets are the most viable option, the most obvious need at the position and the most inconsistent quarterback room over the last few years. So we'll see, we'll see what they do. I think that makes sense. I don't see a lot of other places that, that make a ton of sense. The more I'm thinking about it, I'm, I'm trying to look through the AFC south, the NFC South. There's not a lot of places that are, that are looking for a quarterback. Would it make sense to inject him in the room at, in Cleveland? No, it doesn't. You already got Deshaun Watson still in that room now going to be healthy. You got Shador Sanders in that room and the conversations there, obviously they don't think they're going to play DeSean Watson, but you know, if you got a healthy 50 million dollar quarterback on the bench, it's gonna, it's gonna, depending on how the starter plays, anytime he throws interception, that conversation is going to be there. That conversation is going to be open. Would somebody trade for him? Would he be willing to adjust his cap number and adjust his contract down to facilitate a trade? That would probably be a, a scenario I think he would be open to if he's looking to play some football. But again, these, these things are all
Richard Sherman
up in the air.
Co-host or Guest Analyst
We'll see how they plan out free agencies starting up. So we're, you know, for all you,
Richard Sherman
you football minds out there, stay tuned.
Julian Edelman
This is Julian Edelman from Games With Names. I want to take a second to talk about something that's personal to me. I've had the privilege of working closely with Robert Kraft for a long time. And one thing I've always respected is how seriously he takes up standing up to hate. As a Jewish athlete, my identity is something I am proud of. But I also know what it feels like to be singled out for it. That's why this new commercial for the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate that aired during the big game really hit home. It's about showing up for someone when they're targeted. Even if you don't have the perfect words. And sometimes standing next to someone is enough and you can show support by sharing the Blue Square.

Host/Analyst: Richard Sherman
Co-host/Guest Analyst: Unnamed
In this episode, Richard Sherman and his co-host break down one of the first blockbuster trades of the NFL offseason—Trent McDuffie’s move from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Los Angeles Rams. They also examine the free agency status of standout defensive end Trey Hendrickson and quarterback Kyler Murray, speculating on landing spots and broader implications for their teams and the league.
On the Rams’ “All-In” Mentality:
“Feels like the Rams kind of reached right here for a great player now. This is a great player and obviously the NFC west right now is an arms race...” (03:53)
On the Chiefs’ Shift:
“For the Kansas City Chiefs, I think that this puts them in in kind of a rebuild mode. Maybe they don't expect Patrick Mahomes to get back in time this season.” (04:45)
On Trey Hendrickson's Priorities:
“If he wants a chance to win a Super Bowl...then I think there's going to be some great conversations...but I like money.” (07:47)
On Which Team Should Target Kyler Murray:
“I think the Jets are the most viable option, the most obvious need at the position and the most inconsistent quarterback room over the last few years.” (09:51)
Sherman offers blunt, insightful analysis with a conversational—often humorous—tone. The discussion centers on the high price of elite NFL talent, the strategies of aggressive front offices, and the market realities of free agency. Sherman brings levity and personal perspective (especially when talking about money versus winning, and the pressure-cooker world of NFL quarterbacking).
"For all you football minds out there, stay tuned." (11:14)
