Wow.
Chad Millman
Wow, wow. What a freaking day of football and weather. Welcome to Sharp or Square presented by Hard Rock Bet. We are part of the Volume Podcast network. This is the betting show that makes the squares sharper, makes the wise guys pay attention. I am Chad Millman. I'm joined as always by my co host, my bff, my compadre, my companion, professional better Simon Hunter. Hello, Simon.
Simon Hunter
Chad. How we doing, brother?
Chad Millman
Dude, what a freaking day. Snow was the story of the day. Snow was the story of the day for you. Snow was the story of the day for me Snow was the story of the day for the first game. Simon. It was snowing so much here that we had to shovel a little path for our dog to go outside because otherwise she would be beneath the level of the snow. She wouldn't go out. I had to put on gloves, hats, boots, and then place her in the middle of the path. And even then she ran around and I got boots like over the top of my. I got snow over the top of my boots and it was awesome. It was such a glorious freaking day. I cannot emphasize enough how much I love, love, love snowy football with nothing but one yard plays. It is truly my favorite. It's like to me, it's like 00 playoff baseball. Did you feel the same way?
Simon Hunter
Yeah. And it's, it is funny though, how divided we are as a nation. Either you love it or you just think it's an abomination and you absolutely hate it. And I just, I'll never get that. It's like, how do you want this sport to be played in the dome? It's. It'll forever be missing.
Chad Millman
I will never get it. I like.
Simon Hunter
Yeah, I just don't get it.
Chad Millman
A pox on the house of every cold weather team that is building a dome. It is so freaking glorious. Our final five today, Seattle two and a half. Denver plus Seattle minus two and a half. Denver plus four and a half. New England, Denver over 42 and a half. Jarrett Stidham over 0.5 picks and Jack Smith Jackson Smith in Jigba under a half, a touchdown. So on the day, our last one in was Seattle minus two and a half. Our last one out was Rams plus two and a half. On the day, a really, really Fun and exciting 3 and 2. Are you ready to get into this? Because we have a Super bowl matchup. We have Seattle and New England in the Super Bowl. Great rematch. One of the best Super Bowls ever. You ready to get into reviewing today's games?
Simon Hunter
Let's do it.
Chad Millman
All right. So New England at Denver closed at 4. The over was 42 and a half. I mean, dude, holy. Just what a fun game. I loved every second of it. I loved how difficult it was to play in. The visuals in the second half were just bonkers. But so was the timeline like that. CBS and the broadcast kept showing of what it looked like at one o' clock or, you know, three o', clock, four o', clock, whatever. It was eastern. And then all of a sudden, like you could only play offense in one half the field. Holy crap. That was amazing. And it had A huge impact on the game. Huge, huge impact on everything. Total Stidhams game, New England's game. Wow. Amazing. I loved it. Loved it.
Simon Hunter
Yeah. So many places to start with this game. I. I guess. I guess I can start for the heartbroken Denver fans. I mean, how do you not be heartbroken after a game like that, where you should have stole that a million different ways? You had the dream game defensively. Totally outplayed them the first half. And yeah, Tony Romo loves a dead horse. I mean, he might have mentioned that field goal.
Robert Smith
Yeah.
Simon Hunter
For the next two hours.
Chad Millman
You mean the one that they gave up when they went forward and fourth and one.
Simon Hunter
Yeah.
Chad Millman
Like, I think he's right.
Simon Hunter
I don't. Unless you have someone telling you that weather's coming, which, again, we talked this morning. I checked the weather. These weather people out there. Who do we hold accountable? It's 20, 26 and they said it was gonna be sunny and cold.
Chad Millman
Well, no, but they did say before the game began, it was already gray. And they did say they expected snow flurries in the second half.
Simon Hunter
Now you just said so. Snow.
Chad Millman
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on now. Did they know it was going to get to be what it was? I have no idea. Weather in Colorado was crazy because of the mountains, so, like, who knows what they knew? But I do think if I'm Sean Payton and I know that I've got a defense that is going to stop the run, and I know I've got Jared Stidham, I want to get him as big a lead as possible so I can account for as many mistakes as possible. That's what I'm thinking. So give me the 10 points, especially when your defense is so freaking good. I thought it was a terrible, terrible call by Sean Pitt.
Simon Hunter
Again, though, it's like if, if I agree, if I would have known Apocalypse was coming, I agree if I know flurries are coming, I need to get points. Because you expect Drake May to get points. But Drake May was bad. Simply put, he was bad today. But it's like, you know, when you need to make plays with the legs, he made those plays. But that was just like you said, type of game where they dominate that first half, still makes a stupid turnover and, you know, change the entire game. Right. That's seven points. They had done nothing up to that point. I think they had like 40 or 50 yards total. New England.
Chad Millman
It's the only way they got close to the red zone.
Simon Hunter
It was the gift. And, you know, Drake May needed one drive to get that Field goal, which they kicked from like the eight yard line because once again, Denver's defense stopped them. Couldn't get in the red zone and that's all you needed. That's why I love football, though. It's like, it's so stupid. It's so simple. At the end of the day, it's. It looks that way, but it's like, it just shows how all these guys I beat up on because they don't get to the super bowl because it's like this. It's like there's always. There's avenues and there's paths. If you can just survive, outlast these teams. And that's what the Patriots did today. They just, they outlasted. They survived. Like, I don't know how much they won this game, but they definitely survived it and they deserve it. And it was again, Drake made 86 yards passing like it just was not his day. And they just found a way. And that was like you said, that's. Those are my favorite playoff games. People hate it. I'm like you, I love it. It's. It's so gross. And every first down matters so much. It was just. I don't know, I always, I always thought we were going to get there. I really did. I thought Denver was going to break one eventually. We'll get that touchdown, they'll win this game. And tons of credit to the Patriots and Rabel and that, that defense, they really showed up and they were just stout the entire game. So, yeah, the weather obviously was a huge factor. Both quarterbacks struggle in the second half. But yeah, at the end of the day, it came down to coaching, right? He could have gone for it. Rabel could have gone for it on that fourth down and pin the pin Denver back. But instead he took the three just when he could get it. And we, we said it. It's a 107 game like that really.
Chad Millman
That'S what I mean.
Simon Hunter
That was deciding factor. So I know that was again, that was like, what, first quarter late. Second like at the time it felt like Denver was in a groove where it was like if they get 14 here, it feels like they can really just end this, this Patriots team. And I get where he's coming from. But yeah, it's hindsight's 20 20. I wish you three. But yeah, if you're a Denver fan, I'd be sick. If you're a Patriots fan, we all hate you. You guys are the worst. Congratulations, you're back again to the Super Bowl. You go, and obviously we spend the next Two weeks blowing smoke up your guy's ass or just totally on either way, who cares if you're a Patriots fan like you guys, this is the dream. This is the probably the first time you felt this way since that Brady versus the Ram super bowl run of the after the tuck rule. Like, it's just all the little miracles went your guys way and it's been. I don't even know. That feels like 30 years ago, but it's probably like 25 or 20 years ago. Whatever it was, it's crazy, crazy run. And you guys actually are in the super bowl with a chance to win it, and we all just hate you. It's like we. I was one of those people. I thought you guys were going to be in hell for 20 years. And yeah, you nailed the quarterback. You nailed the coach.
Chad Millman
Well, look, they did a couple things right. They got the quarterback right, but, you know, the crafts fired Gerard Mayo and immediately went to get Mike Vrabel, who's a brilliant coach. We've been betting on Mike Vrabel as an underdog for so long, and we've been betting on Mike Vrabel to be a winner for so long now. It's going to be really interesting because of what's going to happen in the Super Bowl. We're not going to talk too much about that. What you just said. They kind of did get an act of God in this game, right? Because they got a blizzard at the exact time they needed a blizzard, and they got a blizzard when they were going in the direction that they needed to go when the blizzard came. And they were able to drive the ball down the field and control the clock for eight minutes to open the third quarter. The Broncos had eight yards. They had like one drive in that quarter because they could not sustain any offense because they were going in the opposite direction. And like, there were a couple times going in the, in the, in the fourth quarter when they were going in that direction. When the Broncos got the ball back where it felt like they might have a shot, it really did. I'm. I'm. I'm bummed for the Broncos. I thought they could have pulled it off. I really did. Drake May was 10 of 21 for 86 yards. I mean, they should have stolen that game. They should have stolen that game.
Simon Hunter
Yeah. And again, I don't know how big of a victory lap I'll take. I guess I don't need to just because, you know, the haters were out in force this week where it's like, do I ever loosely say this is one of my biggest bets. No, I. Whenever I say that stuff, I mean, it's. And yeah, that's. That's the dream star. When you bet a dog like that and they cover from the second the game kicks off to the second the game is over, it's the best. It's the dream scenario when you bet a number that, you know, it's. It's like, okay, they might not win this, but there's no way the Patriots win this by more than three. They're gonna need a bunch of acts of God to cover that number. It was just.
Chad Millman
Got it. They almost got it. And we were on. We were both on the. The Broncos.
Simon Hunter
Yeah.
Chad Millman
Thank God there weren't more acts of God because it was a. It truly was a little bit of a razor's edge when things started to go badly for Stum. I know we weren't betting on Jared Stum in this game. We were really betting on sort of there not being that much of a difference between Bix and Jared Stidham in the way the points bed was reflecting it. And we bet the five and a half and that was the number.
Simon Hunter
Yeah. Can I have victory lap? What are you cutting me off for? I was in. I was about to go on a 10 minute victory lap and you had.
Chad Millman
No, no, go ahead. Go. Run. Run it, brother.
Simon Hunter
No, it was great.
Chad Millman
Run your lap.
Simon Hunter
It's the best. It's just these people that doubt. It's just. I'll never make sense to me. It's like I literally give out free picks on this show. Is there anything for me to gain by telling people I'm betting huge amounts of money on a side? No, I'm. I. I literally make $0 off that information that I'm giving out to you guys for free. So I said to people, time. People complain during the game. I say. I say the same thing to people that used to complain when I first started. Don't watch the games if you can't handle it. Like, if you want to complain after the game, go for it. But before, during the game, you're out of your mind complaining about this stuff. So, yeah, that was. Again, it's the best. It's like you see those numbers again when it open at five and a half. I literally couldn't believe it. It was one of the worst books, one of the worst numbers. The books have long all year. So I'm so happy it came through. And people that believed in it, they bet it. It's. It's a fun win. And you know It's a rare opportunity. We talk all the time. It's that stat Evan gave out since 1950. Now these home dogs, four points or more, 100 since 1950 against the spread. 100 against the spread. So something to always keep in mind for the future going forward. It's just a great, great spot to play these ugly dogs.
Chad Millman
We had three bets on this game. We had the Broncos plus four and a half in the contest over 42 and a half, which started off strong, but then it was kind of a dead bet by halftime. And then it was a really dead bet when we got into the second half and we had Jarrett Stidham to throw an interception. I did get an email if people had Stidm to throw the interception, and they checked their records and it was showing as not having won. The provider for the contest is aware. They're working on it. I don't know if they fixed it yet or not, but I appreciate folks who emailed me to let me know. In the first half, he almost threw that interception on that fourth and one. And it would have been nice. Like, we would have sort of gotten out of it and been like, my God, we already got like two wins under our belt. And then his last throw of the game, he throws that pick. That, by the way, Simon, was his 31st pass of the game. His total for pass Attempts opened at 31 and a half. He would have hit 32 if that backwards pass, which I guess is not really a pass because it's a fumble and it's a lateral, would have been counted as a forward pass instead of a fumble. So that play, I'm pretty sure is what cost him that extra completion for anyone who was on the over 31 and a half, which I had talked about.
Simon Hunter
So the Russian QB props came through and Drake made his over. And yes, his Russian total was 15. They get 23.
Chad Millman
Yeah, Drake may crushed his. He had almost as many rushing yards as he had passing yards.
Simon Hunter
Let's save the game like they. He literally could not do anything but his legs every time he needed a big play. Again, Tony Romo, they got. They got to put J.J. watt in the main. They got to make J.J. watt. CBS is number one. It's. It's time. The Tony Romo experiment, it's run its course. He said there's no one better than the league running the ball up the middle than Drake May, as if that's even something quantifiable. It's like, okay, he's better than Josh Allen running the ball up the middle. When the pocket breaks down, what are we doing? Tony? He's just. I was again, I love Stenom. I was like having fun with it when he had that first drive. Touchdown. I go, my God, Tony Romo is going to say how this guy reminds him a lot of Patrick Mahomes at some point, isn't it? I was just waiting for it. But luckily he turned back into a pumpkin for us, so we'd have to hear that for three quarters.
Chad Millman
I do wonder with Jared Stidham, you know, he was not Nick Foles. He didn't sort of pull off the miraculous backup qb. Right. Well, that's what I wonder. Like, if you're someone who's analyzing football, I don't think you can learn anything from that second half. It was chaos and snowstorm and his performance cannot be sort of judged based on that second half. But in that first half, are you looking at and thinking, that's a guy, if he ever becomes a free agent, I want to build my team around? Or is he destined to be good enough to be a backup and hopefully come in and get you a win or two the way Mac Jones did or the way that. Who else did it this year, the way that Davis Mills did for the Texans? Like, is that his lot? Did he miss his chance here?
Simon Hunter
Yeah, maybe miss his chance in another life. But no, I never thought he was going to play himself into be a starter just because he's 29. I mean, 30 years old. No, he's in. He's in the perfect role for what he is. He's. He's a good backup to have. He's the type of guy that Bo went down for two weeks in the middle of the season. I think he could win them a game. Yeah, but yeah, with that defense, right. It's. He's got the arm talent. You just saw it. It's like, you know what makes Bo Nick so special with his legs, he's just a hair slower than Bo Nicks was.
Chad Millman
Right.
Simon Hunter
There's a couple of times where that showed up where he didn't get the, the first down. Like that fourth and one play. Yeah, that was Bo Nix. That would have been fourth and one. It would have been a first down. So it's. Yeah, he's talented, but yeah, that was again, it was an apocalypse that second half.
Chad Millman
Did you know that Jarrett Stidham helped recruit Bo Nix to Auburn when he was a quarterback at Auburn?
Simon Hunter
Yeah, I think I saw some picture of them. Right. Yeah, yeah, I saw it too, because.
Chad Millman
I'm on social media all right, so we're two and one heading into the afternoon game. And in the afternoon game, we had Seattle -2 and a half and we had Jackson, Smith and Jigba to not score a touchdown. You made a really good point. If you want to take a victory lap. I know that's, you know, something you want to do tonight. You talked about special teams and what a difference that could make in this game and that the Rams special teams was ranked near the bottom of special teams units in the league. The Ram special teams was so bad with like two games left, they fired their special teams coach. And the Seahawks special teams had been ranked near the top all season long. And this game was going back and forth and the Rams had played themselves back into it and they fumble a freaking punt after the first drive in the second half. And that's really what gave the Seahawks the cushion they needed in this game. They go up by 11 and like the, the Rams could never get closer than four. Really interesting game.
Simon Hunter
Yeah. I would say both teams were exactly who they were all season. Other than the fact that Sam Darnold played out of his mind.
Chad Millman
Out of his mind.
Simon Hunter
We got incredibly lucky. I won't lie. Like, I, I betting this game, I thought, okay, Sam might play well, but they'll have to dominate the ball, control running the ball and their defense have to show up. And their defense did show up on those fourth downs. Right. That's when they did show up. But overall, Stafford was playing out of his mind as well. So you needed Sam Darnold have the game of his life and you know, 346 yards, three touchdowns, no turnovers, you know, even, even on dumb sacks or bad plays, which you get with Sam Darnold, it never ruined the game or dictated it. And like you said, that special teams turnover, that really flipped it. Other than that egregious penalty, which I guess we won't spend too much time on because it doesn't matter, but.
Chad Millman
Oh, my God.
Simon Hunter
Yeah, everyone is in agreeance. You can't make that call in a championship game. If it's week three, the Seahawks are playing the Browns and he does that. Okay, teach the kid a lesson. This is, this is not the time to be teaching that. That guy a lesson. And that almost totally take the game. But yeah, thank God I got you to flip to the Rams because that'd be brutal sitting here two and three. Seahawks.
Chad Millman
Seahawks.
Simon Hunter
No, I flipped you from the Rams, right?
Chad Millman
I thought you said you got me to flip to the Rams.
Simon Hunter
Either way, thank God because you're two and three. Because again, I, I liked the Seahawks, but it was. You saw what that game was where it's like it could go either way because these teams are so close.
Chad Millman
Yeah.
Simon Hunter
But the Seahawks really did dominate that game. And that penalty gave new life to that ramps team, which, you know, say what you want. That. That was big time. Matthew Stafford take going right after the guy. I love that too. He went right after the guy who made the penalty with poop.
Chad Millman
Yes.
Simon Hunter
Get the touchdown. It's like, man, I. I'm gonna miss him when he retires, man. It's just, he's like the last of this, this Rogers, he's.
Chad Millman
He's a gunsling. No fear. Fuck you. I'm throwing it in your face. There was a throw that he made, I think in the first drive of the game on a third down to Puka, who was so covered, but there was like one sliver of an opening that he could get it into. And I think Puka was so shocked, like he didn't know to put his hands up and it was a perfect throw. He's. When he is on, it is so freaking fun to watch him. Devonte Adams, like, oh, my God. It was, it was. It was fantastic. It was everything. Why? I don't know that any of the handicapping we did for this game was on or not. Right? Like, did the rest matter? Did it not matter? Who knows? Did the Rams?
Simon Hunter
Didn't you see their defense? The Rams defense, they had no legs.
Chad Millman
Yeah, but the Seahawks were getting mauled. Like the Rams were going up and down the field.
Simon Hunter
I mean, getting more in the sense that it was just a Stafford game. Brother, you just said it like.
Chad Millman
Yeah, well, hold on, let me window. Hey, you get to finish your victory lap. I get to finish my point, which is we were expecting at some point a Stafford brain fart, a McVeigh, you know, miscalculation in how he's calling the game inconsistently like he's been doing all season long. And they were just on fire. Like, everything we thought might be impactful wasn't really what was impactful in this game. It was that special teams play. And really the play in which Jackson, Smith and Jigba scored at the end of the first half.

And Darnold had that brilliant drive with like 53 seconds left. I mean, it was, it was a great game. Great game.
Simon Hunter
Yeah, all time. It really was. And you know, Jackson, Smith and Jigba, 12 targets, 10 catches, 153 yards and a touchdown. It's. It is crazy watching him play, how talented he is and just every little thing he does middle of the field, cover the edges, everything, he's just so good at it all. And yeah, that was, you know, type of game where you just, you expect the defense to get stops. And they did. And the same Donald part, that was the wrinkle. We really didn't know what to expect. And that was just, I mean, you got to give the guy credit. Like we're, we're part of it. Everybody, we all, as NFL fans, beat this man up. I mean, again, it was his own fault. It was on a Monday night. He said he was seeing ghosts. Yeah, infantry. But like, never, never would I ever seen this coming. The man was a journeyman on a bunch of different teams. He was, he was the backup on Carolina Panthers, for God.
Chad Millman
This is 15. It's his fifth team.
Simon Hunter
So, you know, the rough, rough day for the Broncos, rough day for Vikings fans, Seahawks fans. I mean, unbelievable. Like it just, you go out and you sign the biggest free agent. Apparently this was the guy, not Michael Parsons, but we spent months talking about the, the barely got a headline. What was it, 90 million? Whatever it was, it was kind of like, oh, Sam Darnold's going to the Seahawks type of deal. And yeah, back to back seasons of 14 wins, number one seed this year. And I, I can't believe how good he was this game. I really am stunned. I can't wait to go back and watch it because just like you said that that touchdown at the end of that first half, I mean incredible pedaling like there was like Caleb Williams pedaling backwards. Yep, corner, he's the guy. Break it open in the corner and just puts it off, off his back foot. And yeah, in a game which you know ended at four points, that that simple play really did decide the game. Right. It was just totally a momentum changing type of game where instead of going to half down 1310, you're up 1713 and yeah, that. I can't believe it. Sam Darnold took the Seattle Seahawks to the super bowl in his first season. Crazy.
Chad Millman
You really got to reevaluate how bad the jets are as an organization. Like look what they've done to quarterbacks. You can see why Dante Moore was like, I am out. I am going right back to Oregon. I'll try again next year and see how much better it can be even with a more difficult quarterback class. Because if I get stuck with the Jets, I might as well not ever play in the NFL again. That's how bad it is. Because Sam Darnold is taking his team, by the way on such a cap friendly deal that you just made A great point. Three years, I think it's like 100 million is making 30 something million a year compared to any other quarterback who's making twice that of his level and his caliber and his veteran status. Good for Sam Darnold. Good for the, good for the Seahawks. Good for the Seahawks to sign Sam Darnold, get rid of Locket, get rid of DK Metcalf, let Jackson, Smith and Jigba be the number one receiver and create some and rebuild their offensive line in the off season. Just amazing. What, what a great turnaround. Great story.
Simon Hunter
Before we move off the Rams, just super quick, what do you, what do you think they're going to do? Stafford free agent Just gotta tag him, right? Even if he throws a hiss. Yeah, you gotta tag him.
Chad Millman
You gotta. I think you gotta keep him around for as long as he can possibly move because it's never the arm that goes with these guys.
Simon Hunter
It's them because they didn't give him a long, give him more, they didn't give him more money.
Chad Millman
Right. You just gotta keep tagging them. Maybe give him maybe, maybe like negotiate a two year deal, overpay him for two years. But you can't give him the long term deal.
Simon Hunter
No.
Chad Millman
But you cannot let him walk away because he's so good and just in.
Simon Hunter
That game like you know, Puka nine catches, 165 Devonte Adams four catches, 89 yards touchdown. Yeah, all the both of them touchdowns. Like they all the weapons did what they needed to do. It was just, you know, you came a fourth down conversion short. It's I just don't know how they let him walk. So yeah, gonna be really interesting off season with the Rams and yeah, just another brutal loss for McVeigh on the road against Seattle here.
Chad Millman

Call-1800- GAMBLER in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia. Simon, I disagree with you on one thing. Yeah, if we were to do a shame on you, I would 100% do Rayquillin. Like he made a brilliant play to stop the Rams on 4th and 12th. The ref let him go. He was John. He was talking to the sideline, he was stepping to the sideline and the ref was not calling anything. He was letting him walk. And then he took another 10 yard stroll down the sideline and kept drawing at people and kept getting in people's faces. He didn't give the ref any choice but to call it, but then to immediately get burned by Puka. That is like he's been a guy who has been on the hot seat all year in Seattle, great rookie year and has been sort of fading since then. He's a free agent. There's been a lot of talk about how they don't want to resign him. This that was abhorrent and that that could have cost them the game if not for sort of the way it played out. But that was, that was just stupid, stupid, stupid. They were letting him get away with it.
Simon Hunter
Shame, shame, shame, shame.
Chad Millman
Shame. I don't know if you get anyone else you want to shame.
Simon Hunter
I don't, but I'm running on a your boy. I got nothing left. I was screaming, hollering during that Broncos.
Chad Millman
Game and pretty great.
Simon Hunter
I am KO'd, honestly.
Chad Millman
All right, well listen, we got one more game left this year. Simon says was Denver plus five and a half. Brass balls was Seattle minus two and a half. Sharp versus square was I had Jarrett Stidham over 31 and a half pass attempts. He had 31. You had Denver. The final review for our games once again. We had Seattle minus two and a half. We had Denver plus five and a half. We had Stidham to throw a pick. We had Jackson, Smith and Jigba to not score a touchdown. We lost that one. We had the over in the Snowpocalypse game which we also lost. This has been Sharper Square presented by Hard Rock Vet, part of the Volume Podcast Network.
