Hi, I'm Sloan and I know basketball. Today's guest is from one of the best basketball families of all time. It's none other than Thanasis Atetokounmpo. His journey from growing up in Greece to being drafted by the Knicks to winning a championship with his younger brother Giannis is a story you won't want to miss. Tell me how to pronounce your last name.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Thanasis. Antetokounmpo.
Sloan
Okay, you're saying it too fast. I need an introduction there.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So Antetokounmpo.
Sloan
Okay, ready? You're gonna rate me. Antete cumpa.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. You just use the t twice. Yeah.
Sloan
Oh my God, look at that. Okay, so everyone now we heard it here first, how to pronounce it. I'm never gonna get it wrong ever again. Love it. Okay, so Thanasis, I'm 17 years old, which I know that was a really long time ago for you, but I want you to set your mind back when you were 17. Okay. And I want to hear what it was like growing up for you in Greece, especially in your teenage years.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Oh my. That's crazy. I mean, just starting to play basketball and just like really having a big, big like just dreams and I'm still kind of in that, in that kind of realm. I just got, you know, just a little bit older and there's more responsibilities I think, but just, yeah, just chasing all the time and just like always worrying about my family and my brothers and same feeling I was a feel now about it, honestly.
Sloan
Yeah. Speaking of that sort of being like, this is such a surreal feeling. I watched the Disney movie about your family, which I loved. And when I was thinking about that movie and thinking about this interview, I wanted to ask you, what if 17 year old Thanassis was sitting in this chair? What would he think? That you are now an NBA champion and have had a movie made about your family.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Wow. I don't think I would believe it, to be honest with you. I don't think. And if I told my 17 year old self like, hey, all your brothers are going to be champions and, and you're all going to be playing basketball and you're all going to like really like live your dream through basketball, you know? And I don't know if I could believe you because to be honest with you, you just live in like segments, you know, like you just, that's how the human mind works till you get to a certain age and then you start thinking about the future more and more. But I think Peter told me today and I had to travel like in a time machine back in time. I'd be like, no, no, no, just, just, just let me focus. I don't believe you. Just let me focus. That's, that's what I would say.
Sloan
I love that. That's really cool. So you started playing basketball much later than most NBA players did. Can you tell us a little bit about how you got into basketball in the first place because, correct me if I'm wrong, but you started off with soccer, right?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, we did play soccer, me and my brothers. We was, you know, it was going to. I mean, because my dad played soccer professionally, so that was our thing. But then one day we just decided. Started, like, it was like, okay, let's try basketball. And then met some people and just decided to take this route, and I loved it, actually. Basketball just felt like, just more engaging, you know, I just felt like soccer for us at the time was great, but, like, it was. You just really had to. Had. Have love for a certain position in soccer instead of basketball. You get. You could. You. You get to be everywhere at. At all. At all times. So, like, offense, defense, and stuff like that.
Sloan
How familiar were you even with the NBA being in Greece?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I mean, as much as we could. As much as I could. I mean, we don't really had. At the time. We didn't really have cable or I don't know how you guys call it, like, but we did have a certain, like, you know, we have a big, big tradition with basketball in Greece, you know, back home. So we did love basketball and we did have, like, this. And I think, like, after 2000, and I want to say 4, 5, kind of changed it.
Sloan
I wasn't even born then.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. Yeah, we kind of changed the trajectory for us.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I talked about this in my podcast with Brian Whithorst talking about Team USA against Greece and kind of like, that change our whole way. That.
Sloan
Yeah, your mindset.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, it was like, oh, my God, this is. This is amazing.
Sloan
So can you name a specific European player that sort of inspired your journey into American basketball?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So many. So many. I mean, you have Spa Nuis. You guys, probably a lot of guys know Spanoulis, Yamadidis, Papalukas. No, guys like that. Like Nico Zishis, like, all. All of those. All those guys. So for Klisco, Chianitis, Baby Shaq, we call it.
Sloan
Yes.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So all of these guys kind of like, with them winning, kind of inspired, like our generation to be like, oh, my God, this is. This is doable. You know, you can. You can. You can be starting this in this big stage.
Sloan
Yeah. So I want to go back to soccer for a little bit, because I played soccer. Your dad played soccer professionally, and you guys started off your journey playing soccer. So if you were to compare your soccer game to one professional player, who would that be?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Would that be Messi? Nah. No, I was too tall. Too big. I would say more like A Drogba. Did your Dr. I was mostly like, come against like speed and just like direct shot, like was, you know, just being big and just powerful. When I, like, I'll take shots.
Sloan
Yeah, yeah. But I mean, I don't know how you could be stopped in the box. Like, if they cross it in, like.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, no, no, just use your body really good. So I'll say him.
Sloan
Yeah, that's, that's a good one for sure. What was your experience? Like, I know you played pro in Greece. What's the biggest difference you noticed playing basketball in Greece and then playing basketball in the United States?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I think just everybody just being athletic, you know, like when I play basketball in Greece, you know, now, now everybody's like, the world, the whole world is starting to catch up. Like, if you notice like every, I.
Sloan
Mean, the Olympics was not a run for us.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, yeah. But at the time, like there was, you know, people weren't so athletic and, and I was one always wondering, like, am I going, going to be athletic if I come to the NBA or if I come to the States and play, am I still going to be athletic? I'm going to look like everybody else. But it was, it was great, man. I just came here and then I was like, I still belong to the 90% of the, you know, athletic and run and jump and, you know, be able to defend and stuff like that. So.
Sloan
Yeah, yeah. And I've seen all these TikTok videos that always amaze me where the fans in Europe are crazy. Like, and I feel like maybe that's not allowed in the United States. I don't know what it is, but do you prefer playing there because of the atmosphere?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So there's, I think there's pros and cons. I don't know if, you know, it's, if it's not allowed per se. It just has to do with like etiquette, you know, like, guys are like die hard fans. I think people are die hard fans. You know, bewalke and Knicks and the Celtics and you do have die hard fans. But like in the Balkans is different.
Sloan
It's different.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
It's a different ball game. And, and it's different when you walk in the arena and it's 20,000 people and they're, they're in the seats like two hours before the game. And, and you know, and people would say, like, you know, it's, it's borderline. I'm not. It's gives you chills, it's scary. Gives you chills and at the same time makes you play like if you have a fan base that has this kind of energy and I play for fan base like that you feel like Superman. Like when you play, you. You do things that you. Sometimes you don't even believe you could do.
Sloan
Yeah. Because it like fuels you. What NBA team's fan base do you think is most similar to a European fan base?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I mean, sadly, none. None. Really? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I mean the close. The closest to it. You see it in the playoffs. That's the closest you can see.
Sloan
It's not in a regular season.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, in the playoffs, but. No, no, even in the regular season now with the, with the cup.
Sloan
Yeah. How do you think the in season tournament has sort of changed maybe the fan experience?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
A lot. A lot, a lot. And it's just. And it's really new the second year. But I think like from next year you will see more and more.
Sloan
Yes.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Like teams and, and people like be really be locked in zero then into the games and want to win. Because you know, for you to win the cup, it's like you gotta win seven in a row. So. So that I think that what people see is gonna like really, really get them to the seats and even more like riled up as they. I don't know, riled up or whatever. But a fan base, I mean, the, the closest you could see a fan base. I want to say doing that it is the playoffs, but I mean, it's just weird. You can't really. Because you're playing so many games.
Sloan
Yeah, it's hard to have that every time.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, it's hard to have that every time. And you think about that it's in Europe, it's like two games a week. So you can. You could have that a little bit easier.
Sloan
I've noticed. Obviously I have a different experience than you because I'm not on the court, but I've been to Warriors, Clippers, Lakers, Jazz games. I'm definitely trying to see more meaning they played other teams, but at their home arenas. The Jazz fans are crazy. And like I didn't expect that being, you know, Utah, but I feel like they're. They're crazier than I thought. So that was definitely cool to see.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. I think Utah has good tradition with the like, with like basketball. I think a lot of teams go out there and they kind of. I think I remember we had illusion streak for a minute.
Sloan
Really?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. In Utah, like because of the crowd, the fan base, the players and the altitude.
Sloan
Altitude, yeah. That's big time. You have to drink when Thanasis walked in here, guys. He was carrying a giant water. It was crazy. So I don't know why he has trouble with the altitude because he drinks insane amounts of water. Okay, I'm really interested in this. So growing up in Europe, you obviously you didn't go to college because you went straight to the pros. If you had to choose an American college that you think you would have gone to, which school do you think it would have been?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I've gotta ask this before and I always say like kind of three. Three of them. So one would be Louisville. Like I don't like really deflections and steals and stuff like that. The other one would be Baylor. I feel like. Yeah, I'm definitely. Yeah, the top of it. Like. And then the other school would be Indiana. Who's like that with Vic or Depot? I feel like I. I was watching Vic playing. I was like, okay, that's cool. It's. It's great to be like a part of that.
Sloan
Yeah, that's cool. I like your answers because I feel like usually when you ask European players this, they're like, oh, Duke or the best schools. I like that you have those. You really thought about this, I can tell. I like that a lot.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Because, you know, like. Like the only reason I. I didn't like go to college is because my. My mom and like my parents didn't really. We didn't really have money, so we had to like go pro. We had to like to get that. Yeah. To do that first. But like, looking back, definitely.
Sloan
So you think if Nil had have been a thing when you were a kid on here, we would have.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
We would have been in. Of course.
Sloan
Yeah. You would have come. First thing.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
You would of. Just think about how many kids from overseas go now to n. Oh, it's crazy.
Sloan
Yeah, of course.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
And. And then I kind of joke with some of my teammates because, you know, like, like I like fraternities and stuff like that.
Sloan
You're a frat boy. Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, no, but fraternities in the sense of like brotherhood and stu. So I, I was definitely was like, oh yeah, I would go to. I don't know how much like HBCUs, like if they have like, you know, like basketball, like stuff like that just to, you know, step and stuff like that. I could see myself do that. So.
Sloan
Yeah. Okay, so. Because we were talking about Nil. What did you buy with your first NBA check?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
What did I buy? Nothing really.
Sloan
You just saved it?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, I was already playing. Yeah. To be honest with you. So my. When I first played with the Knicks. I didn't really get, like, that kind of money because it was.
Sloan
It was more like a D league.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, it was. It was D league. And then I got a call up, so it wasn't really like that much of money. But then when I come with the buck, when I came back to the NBA, I was already, you know, I was already a professional athlete, so I was already.
Sloan
Yeah, it wasn't that same experience. Yeah, yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
And, you know, and it was. It was a blessing in disguise as well, because, you know, all my brothers play, so I never had to, like, say, like, oh, I gotta get my brothers this. I gotta do this. Like, we've always.
Sloan
You've all gotten to do it together.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Together at the same time. So that's been a blessing for us to be able to build off this. And really, like, you know, that's super cool.
Sloan
So we talked a little bit about European basketball and the difference between European basketball and the NBA. There's been this concept, you know, that people have been talking about a lot online about this idea. Take the Champions League in soccer, but put that in basketball and have NBA teams playing teams like Real Madrid bc. What do you think that that would be like? Would you be an advocate for that?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Oh, yeah, 100%, I would be an advocate for that because I think be like, teams and players, like, especially if they play, like a couple of the Greek teams as well that we're from, they would lose their minds. They'll be like, there's no way you guys play basketball like this. There's no way.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
And, yeah, I think people would love it and. And they would create, like a. I think people of. I think the whole of the world would love it now in the States. I don't know how much, you know, how much somebody, you know, really cares about playing a European team in their. In their stadium. But once they, you know, they lose, they.
Sloan
Then they care. All right, so what was your NBA I made it moment because you had a. Definitely a Not traditional path to the NBA balancing, you know, between being in Greek, being in the D League, and then finally making it with a real, like, you know, an NBA team like the Bucs.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, I think. No, it wasn't. It wasn't even just making it with the Bucks. I think it was when I got drafted, you know, because, like, just getting. I don't think people realize this. Like, you know, just getting drafted is so crazy. It's like 60 people in, like, the whole planet. They get picked every year. Right. And just to be able to have, you know, three of them in your family. Like, you know, and I got drafted, Giannis got drafted and Kostas got drafted. And like, then I was like, okay, I'm an elite professional basketball player. It didn't matter if I was going to play in the NBA, to be honest with you. Because, like the NBA drafts based on potential players, right? And imagine like now in that age because, you know, now like, people can be like, okay, yeah, it's, you know, when you're older, people get the, it's the business side of it, right? I'm gonna get this player because this player does this for me. Get that player. But then when you're young, nobody knows you. Nobody knew me. Nobody cared. Nobody knew, you know, Giannis. Nobody knew coach. Like, they just like, you know what? We believe they have a potential to play in the NBA someday. We're gonna draft them now and let's see in the future so that, that lets you know that you just have that NBA type athleticism and potential. So that was the, that was the moment then. Okay. Obviously after you wanna, you wanna say, obviously winning a championship, again, like, okay, it doesn't happen. But yeah.
Sloan
And I feel like it's also especially cool that you got drafted to the Knicks, because being a kid in Europe, that's one of the teams that you really know.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
You know what's so crazy? I remember when I got drafted, people like, keep saying like, oh, you got drafted first before Giannis. That is not true. Giannis got drafted 2013, I got drafted. I got drafte injured him.
Sloan
Yes.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
But nobody remembers Yan getting drafted because I got drafted to the Knicks.
Sloan
That's what matters. Exactly.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
And, and, and it was a huge thing. I remember back in Greece, like, oh my God, he's, you know, just this whole thing. But for me, it was just a proud moment because I really, really worked hard to, to like, you know, do this. So I think people have to sometimes just like, you know, like, really embrace and really change these moments and steps like that. Because a lot of times people get caught up in different, different things and they're like, yeah, and what's going on in the world, but they don't retrace their steps and go like, oh, oh, okay, this is, I've had an amazing, like, journey and stuff like that.
Sloan
Yeah, it's the little moments that matter. I love that. What is a fan interaction that you will never forget?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Fan.
Sloan
It's probably hard to pick one. I'm sure you've had so many.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I do have. I Do have a fan interaction. So is this. Is this guy. His name is. I mean, I don't want to say his name.
Sloan
Okay. Yeah, this guy.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So. So I'm. I'm in New York, got drafted. I'm kind of like, you know, looking for Greek food. And then I'm looking for this specific Greek ice cream. It's called kaimaki. And I can't find it anywhere. So I. So I, like, I don't know. Did I tweet? Did I say something? I don't know what I said. And I was like, guys, is anywhere.
Sloan
Your family has a history of crazy tweets? So I.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, but not ye. Yeah, we don't. I mean. Yeah, I mean, we don't really tweet like that.
Sloan
Funny things like Oreos and milkshakes. Yanis has said crazy stuff.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, but we. So I'm thinking I'm trying to find this ice cream. I can't find it anywhere in New York. I'm like, there's no way.
Sloan
Yeah, it's nowhere. It's New York.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. And I couldn't find it. And then this fan, contact me at the time. Fan Now. He's one of my, like, cool friend. This is like, this is my friend now. And he contacts me and he. And he goes like, okay, I'm like, send me. Send me an address. Something. Ship. I want to ship you something. Send me an address or, I don't know, etc. And I go, like, okay. So I sent him a P.O. box. Send him, like, like, my address. And then he sends me a whole, like, ice cream machine.
Sloan
Wow.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yes. And then he sends me all the ingredients to make that. Make that ice cream. And at the moment, I was shocked. I was like, is this, like a. Is this a whole ice cream machine? And then. And then the ingredients and mustacha and this and that. And I'm like, wow. I mean, I'm going to. I'll make it. But then what got me. I was like, wow, that. That. That's my. That. That would be my family. Like, my family would do something like that.
Sloan
Yeah, people care that much.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, my family would do something like that. And I never, like, forget about that. And I remember, I was like, hey, when I come to Canada, Montreal, like, when we play, like, like, I'm going to meet you. I'm going to see you. And I'm meeting him there. And then, like. And then, shoot. I saw him. I saw him, like, a couple of months ago, my brother's wedding. That's crazy, right? So, like, we're like, that's my, like, sort of friends.
Sloan
That's so cool. I love that story. What about winning a chip was most special to you? And the reason why I asked this question is because, you know, as it's weird to call us normal people, right. But people that aren't in the NBA, you think winning a chip must be the most surreal feeling. But I feel like a lot of the players that I've talked to have one have had different reasons that have made it so special. And I'm curious to hear what yours is.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
My reasons? I think I have two reasons. One is the obvious one, like, who doesn't want to win a championship? Like, if you're a winner, you want to win. It doesn't matter if you play, don't play. You just want to win. Whatever you stand, whatever you walk to, I want this to win. So that's one. But the other reason is very, very personal. Like, we really wanted to win. I really wanted to win because my brother won the year before with the Lakers, and we had this. And I remember we were sitting at the table and like, oh my God, he just won a champion.
Sloan
He was the first to win a champ.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. And, you know, and the way he wanted, you know, with the guys, he wanted with like LeBron and Dwight and the guys and nad and all these guys and with the Lakers and, you know, and they were like, oh my God. Mind you, that season, our season, we were supposed to go all the way as well, but the COVID happened.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So just sitting in the table and he's like. He's had, like. He said have his hat on.
Sloan
He's flexing.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, he just got it. He. He just flew in. And you know, at the time it's Covid, so there's no like, parade, no nothing. But we did something for him. So we had a lot of friends and we did like a whole, like, convoy with our cars, our friends. And we met him at the airport and you know, the. The next day we're just all sitting and he was talking about the. The championship and like, how. How crazy this is. And then he got his ring and we did this whole video for his rig ceremony. And while we're doing the video, I'm sitting with Jan. I'm like, we're gonna win. We gotta win. And I remember, you know, it wasn't the usual like, like dinner. I was always like, oh, yeah, like, everybody gets dinner. We all. It wasn't just that. It was like, so full of motivation. And I remember the day, the next Day was so serious. Like, hey, we got it. Like, we're right there. Like, let's figure this out. We're right there. And for us to win it, the next year was so surreal because now we're like, oh, my God, this is. It's incredible. Can you imagine telling somebody like, hey, this is how close the chances are. Like, hey, I'm gonna win $100 million, bro. I'm going to win the next lottery. And you go like, huh?
Sloan
Yeah, that's so crazy.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
And then you. And then. And then somebody next to you wins it, which happens to be your brother. He wins it. You like, oh, my God, you just won the lottery. No, I got to do it, too. But, but, but think about this. You say this out loud, but, like, people don't really believe that. No, they just say it just to say it. Yeah, but say it out loud to make it happen. And then after the fact, come down and sit them like, oh, my God, we just did this. It's. It's special.
Sloan
Yeah, it must be so special for you guys, but I can't imagine how special that must be for your mom.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, my mom. My mom is like. You know what I'm saying? She's. She's amazing. And. And she's so proud of us. And she's so proud of us, you know, regardless, no matter what. But, like, she told us, like, don't worry. Are you guys gonna win as well? I was like, you think? She was like, oh, yeah, you guys gonna win. I mean, you guys are the same. You're. You're brothers. If he could do it, you could do it.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I was like, okay, let's go it. So I can't. I can't complain. I can't. I always put my faith in my mom, so.
Sloan
Yeah, I know. Your mom was visiting la, right? And I heard. I was like, maybe she was gonna. Come on. I'd be like, talking to someone. Like, I've gotten to talk to the coolest NBA players, but talking to your mom, she's like superwoman. That would have been so cool. Tell her if she ever wants to come on a podcast.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
She's very interesting. I was thinking about doing an episode of my podcast with her. She was like, what am I going to talk about? I was like, you have so many things to talk about. Not just the. The, you know, the. Because basketball is one thing.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Like, mentality and. And raising us and. And, you know, and my dad and. And the dynamic between, you know, like, like, sports and. And us and. And who we are. And character and how much you, like, you really put in. Into the character and not even the sports.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
She never said, like, you got to go to the gym and shoot. No, she was just like, I need you to be in your best, like, the best person, the best version of yourself, and then that will trickle down to court. So.
Sloan
Well, clearly her parenting works. Yeah, it went well. All right, so I'm curious, obviously, as fans, we watch the NBA all the time, but as an NBA player, how often do you actually watch games on tv?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So if you're. If you're. If you love basketball, you watch. Like, I watch. Like, I watch euroleague, I watch NBA. I watch everything. Any. Anything that has to do with basketball, and especially if I have any remotely somebody who I know that's playing. Like, I would watch it. Like, I have. I have, like, former teammates and people who have watched their games that I haven't told them. Like, I've watched the games. Italy here, NBA. Like, I've watched the games, but I won't, like, you know, I won't tell them, like, hey, I watch. I watch their game, but I do watch a lot of basketball.
Sloan
Yeah. And considering this is one of your first seasons in a while watching more as a fan because of your injury, I want you to give me your NBA award predictions. All right, so we're gonna start with mvp.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah.
Sloan
Tell me who you think MVP is this season.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
It's gonna be. I think it's gonna be now. I'll give you the realistic. I'll give you the way I'm gonna show. Like, it has to be. It's gonna be between two guys, which is one is my brother, and jokids like those two, you could pick either one in the end of the season.
Sloan
So I figured you prefer your brother.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
But, yeah, I'm being.
Sloan
You know, that's actually really nice because, to be honest, if you ask if, like, that if I was Giannis and my brother was you, he'd be like, no, I want. I want Yogic to win. Like, he would never.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, yeah. No, no, no. But, yeah, Giannis is. Yeah, but obviously the same thing. They don't. Those two guys, they don't play for the awards. No, they play to.
Sloan
They're just that good. And it happens.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. No, yeah, they just play to be better every day. I'm just saying, from a fan's perspective, like, watching them playing, consistency is different.
Sloan
It is. Who is your most improved player this season?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Most improved player. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a great question. I'll get back to it.
Sloan
Okay. Okay. Rookie of the year, which is a crazy one because my rookie of the year just got hurt. I'm very upset about it. Jared McCain was my rookie of the year. I mean, that wasn't unpopular opinion. It's so sad to see that now he can't really get the award.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Who's playing now?
Sloan
So, like, Stephen Castle is probably. He's like, the number one prediction right now. Jalen Wells, they're, like, up there.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I thought Rick of the year was going to be this guy from the Lakers. Ste.
Sloan
Oh, Don Connect. Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Kind of felt for him, like, because I saw him play and I was like, oh, my God. He's so mature in the way he plays. He'll definitely fit in. In, you know, in a. In. In the championship team. Because a lot of times people don't. Don't tell you this, but, like, you got. It's a big, big difference between being the guy, between coming to a big roster to play. That's why a lot of young guys won't play.
Sloan
Mm, totally. Oh, we have. We have fans. We have fans watching this episode.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Young guys won't play, so. But they'll be able to be mature and be like, okay, this is what I do. This is what I do. This is what. This is the way I can help this team. So I got to dominate this place.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
But Jeremy McCain was probably.
Sloan
Yeah. Okay. Lastly, who do you think is going to win the chip this year? And I don't want to see any bias. You know, you got to be straight up.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Any bias. Apart from, like, obviously always, you know, like, Milwaukee has a special place in my heart other than the Bucs. It's. It's. You know what? Usually it's a lot of seasons that you have, like, some people that are clear cut for winning, but, like, apart from obviously, you know, the Celtics did it last year, so they kind of have, like, this little advantage over everybody a little bit.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
But other than this, like, I think it's up there. It's up for whoever it's is healthy in the end of the season if whoever is more consistent in the end of the season.
Sloan
You know, I'm a Warriors fan, and at the beginning of the season, I had so much hope. I was like, no way. Steph's gonna get his fifth ring. Like 100. We were first in the West. What? Now we're all the way down to eighth in the West. This season has been crazy, crazy up and downs. It's like, you never know.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I think the team was playing bad in the beginning of the season and now.
Sloan
Exactly. I mean, coming off the cup win. Exactly. Okay, do you want to go back to most improved player or you just.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, Most improved player. Do you have any names? Do you have anybody?
Sloan
I'll tell you, I mean, there's a lot you could say. Jalen Williams, I think is someone. You could say. Scottie Pippen Jr. You could say. My prediction at the beginning of the season, unfortunately, was. It was a bad one. It was Brandon Pajemski from the warriors, who is a great player.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
But I. I can see why you said that, though. I can see why you said that.
Sloan
Because I think that, you know, you know, I. It's not.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
But I do like J. Williams. I. I do feel like we talk about the same person. Okay. OKC, right?
Sloan
Yes, OKC. Well, you know, there's two Jaylen Williams on OKC, but we're talking about this.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Game, the 21 points per game, right?
Sloan
Yes, exactly. Wow, look at that stat.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Okay, so I did see him play. I did feel like we kind of. It's crazy. I told him something last year, the year two years ago. He reminds me of a player, specifically. And he was laughing, he smiled, he was like, yeah. I was like, hey, that's the comparison. I feel like you could do that on defensive.
Sloan
It was a pleasure.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
He reminded me of Jrue Holiday.
Sloan
Sloan knows a line.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. Yeah. He reminded me of Drew Holiday. This is everything. Everything. It wasn't just his game. Just like his. The vibe, his body type, his way, his nonchalant, his face, everything. He reminded me of Drew Holiday. And I told him, I was like, hey, listen, you gotta go look at the person that nobody's looking, and the person who's actually signing after signing, big after big after big contract without nobody really realizing. Like, this guy has like maybe top 10 Cartier endings in the NBA, you know, and always considered underrated, you know, so, like, you wanna really have good examples and I hope, you know, I don't know how he saw it, but I did tell him that.
Sloan
Yeah. It's interesting that you say that, you know, always considered underrated, because I've been asking the question. I've probably been doing slow notes for about years now, since I was 13, 14. And I've always asked the question, who's the most underrated player in the league? And people always say, drew Holiday. And it's like, how has he been underrated for that long?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Okay, so some point is going to stop. Obviously, at some point it's going to.
Sloan
Stop, because it's like Gold medal, NBA championship. At what point are people going to stop saying he's underrated?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So I'll tell you why it is the reason he say he's underrated, because he doesn't come off like this. Like, mega, Super.
Sloan
Yes.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
He's not like a flexer, but he does have. No, no. So this is the thing about, like, super and megastar. Like, it's not like he, he's a flex or that he. Flex. I don't know. I mean, I don't know if I'm using the word correctly, but, like, those players just don't, like, it's. It's just players who are known, like, across the globe. Like, it's players who go all across globe. Totally.
Sloan
And they're recognized. Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
And I think, like, you know, he's in either tier, so because he's not that tier, he's considered underrated. Because what he does sometimes at some point it gives you those kind of moments, though. He can give you those kind of moments.
Sloan
Another thing is, I remember when Drew was called up to the Team USA for the Olympics and people were like, really? Jrue Holliday over Jalen Brunson, all these people. But if you don't know the game, you don't understand how much of an impact he can make. Like, he's the heart of so many teams. He's incredible on defense. He has incredible court vision. And people fail to see that because they only see the big windmill dunks and the deep threes. And they don't understand that it's a team, it's a team sport for a reason. And guys like that are as vital as a step Curry, who can hit the last three, you know.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. And that's why you see him, he. He always played and he always had, like, vital role teams. And, and this is the thing about, like, like I said, like before, you know, guys coming out of college, it's the same thing. Guys, you know, being a stud in your team and then you go to another team that's a super team.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
And then, and then, and then that's how you gotta, then you gotta be some. You guys gotta be different for you to, to be able to play. You know how LeBron is and KD and, and stuff like that. And, you know, and Steph, they're just different. That's why they're gonna play. That's all it is. If you cannot be that different, like, really separate yourself above others, it'll be hard for you to play.
Sloan
Yeah, totally. Okay, so now I want to move on to a section where I want to get to know your brothers a little bit more in depth. Right. So you have. Including yourself, there's five brothers, right? Francis, Kostas, Alex, Giannis, and Thanasis. And four of the five brothers have. Have played professional basketball, three in the NBA, And Francis played soccer. He took another. He took another path. Okay, so I'm gonna ask you some questions, and you're gonna tell me which brother this applies to. Are you ready?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah.
Sloan
Okay. Which brother is the funniest?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I'm. I'm between coast. It depends.
Sloan
Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
And I know it sounds crazy, but it depends because we all. We're all. Well, I want to say it's a hard thing to say. We're all funny. But I think if I had to pick on between Alex and Kostas. Those two. Yeah. I think they're younger, and they just, like, you know, I think they have everything in their arsenal, you know, from humor to dark humor to. They like everything. They have everything in their arsenal.
Sloan
So which of the best brothers is the. Sorry. Which of the brothers is the best overall athlete over the athlete?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Me.
Sloan
Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, seriously.
Sloan
You could be, like, a tight end.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
But. But, you know, something changed my mind.
Sloan
Oh.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
It was two, three years ago. Something changed my mind. Then I. Then I. Then I picked. It's crazy. Then I picked Yan Giannis because I saw him run track. It was running track at the same time. I was, like, 11. Like, 10, I think it was like, 11 something for, like, 100 meters. I was like, he's seven feet.
Sloan
And I'm like, okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
But then. But then, you know, then I changed my mind again because I see causes, and causes has this, like, 48 vertical, so it's like, overall.
Sloan
But one of the most athletic families.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
For the longest, I always was like, no, I'm okay.
Sloan
It's you.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
To combine everything.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Strong, explosive, jumping lateral and, like, fast twitch.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Okay.
Sloan
Which of the brothers is the best cook?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
The best cook. I mean, I have. It's not like we go out there and we.
Sloan
Yeah. You could also say none of you.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, none of, like, not really. I mean, I would say maybe Costas, maybe. Maybe as he's. I could see more of a group, like, you know, maybe him.
Sloan
Okay. I feel like you guys maybe aren't, like, chefs.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, we're definitely not.
Sloan
You more just get the food for you.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No.
Sloan
Yeah, yeah. Which of your brothers has the best style?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
What? You joking? This is. No, this is, of course. Of course me. But if you see us in a setting, you'd See, while we're brothers, like, we all, like, kind of similar style. How do you guys call it? A little bit swag? A little bit of aura. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Aura.
Sloan
Aura. Aura. Okay. Who takes the longest to reply to a text?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Who takes the longest? I think the youngest. Like, the young guys. I think either Costas or Alex.
Sloan
Yeah, that makes sense.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I feel like I want to say Costas maybe.
Sloan
Maybe my problem is I see the text and I read it, and then I'm like, I'll reply later. And then it's, like, been, like, a week, and I'm like, oh, my God. I never responded to my. Yeah, it has to be closest.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
He's like, who.
Sloan
Which of the brothers is the best dancer?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
The best dancer. I mean, we don't break that break dance or have any, like, competition or stuff like that. But, like, I wouldn't say the young. Like, listen, I wouldn't say the younger. I want to say, like, either Kostas or Alex. Let's give it to them. Okay.
Sloan
Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Okay.
Sloan
This is very random, but when I was in second grade or third grade, we had a project to sort of learn how to take care of, like, a pet, right. Where they gave us a water balloon to a group of kids, and they basically saw which kids could keep it, like, intact the longest and not pop it. Curious. If you gave all of your brothers that water balloon, who would protect it, like, the most? Who wouldn't let it pop?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So would. So I think it all depends because, like, we are very, very. Like, we're boys and men, so it's kind of like we're very little. Like, if you give us a balloon. I don't care. A little longer if it's a balloon. If it's a kid.
Sloan
What if it's a kid?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, no. If it's a kid, that's our. That's. Then that's part of. That's the. That's the pack. That's part of the. That nobody's doing nothing. Yeah. But if it was to, like, a. Like, a pet pet, I would say Costas maybe. Probably Costas is more of a pet, like, you know, pet guy.
Sloan
Yeah. Okay. Which of your brothers is the biggest mama's boy?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
It's between. I think it's between Giannis and. And Alex.
Sloan
So they have a baby. Yeah. I'm curious to see if I get one of your other brothers on here, if they have different answers.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, they'll probably do, because they, you know, they see life differently.
Sloan
Different perspective. Totally. Okay, now we're going to move into a little bit of a rapid fire section.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I mean, mama's. I mean, I call my mom every day.
Sloan
I call everybody.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah.
Sloan
What is your favorite clothing brand?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Favorite clothing brand? Obviously Nike and our brand, like we. Nike, like, we're obviously in our band. Like I did the Kubros.
Sloan
Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Those, like, those are the two brands I'll be rocking with. But to be honest with you, so many new brands that are coming out and like, I'm more of usually not like fashion stuff like that, but at the same time, I like to like, kind of like promote people too.
Sloan
Yeah. Underground stuff.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. So in the past three years that I'm into fashion a lot, like, I have a lot of people send me stuff and I'll just. Just wear them and just wear them and see and really tell them like my feedback what I think by the same night. Just promote it too, because it doesn't.
Sloan
Why? Nothing. Yeah, totally.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I don't.
Sloan
What is your favorite food?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I mean, Greek food and African food, Nigerian food.
Sloan
Okay. What is your go to cheat meal after a game you play? Well, what are you getting?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I'm getting pasta, broccoli, mushrooms, parmesan and lemon oil.
Sloan
Wow, that's so specific. Usually people are like chick fil a McDonald's. You have such a specific. You like bougie food? I feel like.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, I don't, I don't like bougie, but I just like fuel. Like, I like. I'm about to run and I'm about to. Yeah, I need to be good.
Sloan
If you could make the Olympics for one sport other than basketball, what sport would it be?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Track. Okay, track. When I say track, it could be the long jump, high jump, anything within the whatever. Yeah.
Sloan
Okay. Gotcha. What is your favorite movie?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Wow.
Sloan
I know. I'm really asking.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I do have, you know, because I do have like franchises that I love from like the Matrix to Harry Potter. And like, I do like, have franchise now. I love Dunes, the franchise Dune. Like, I'm obsessed now with that. But like, if I could pick one movie, I'll pick the Godfather. Whichever one.
Sloan
That's my dad's favorite movie too. What is your favorite video game?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Favorite video game? I used to play a lot. Not FIFA, but pro evolution soccer. P.S. i explore that game a lot with my. With my brothers, but then, you know, then the next game is taken game.
Sloan
Do you still play like video games a lot even though you're an adult?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I mean, I don't, I don't. I don't think those two go hand in hand because you have people making, like, millions.
Sloan
True, true. Okay, true.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Playing. But I think I would say I. After Covid, I've tried to really not. No to really now play. Because people just. This is what people do. Just sit down and stay in front of a camera and play all day. So I want to do the total opposite. I want to, you know, with the limited time that I have, I want to, like, do stuff. I want to, you know, visit places, video games.
Sloan
Yeah, totally. Do you have any hidden talents?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Hating talents? Not really. I mean, I don't.
Sloan
I'm sure you do. Okay, well, we'll revisit. What is your dream vacation destination? That's a tongue twister.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. So I do want to visit Brazil, Japan, which is this place. I'm Japan's.
Sloan
Mine too. I want to go so bad.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Just love their culture and, like, obviously. And I'm a big fan of anime and stuff like that, but I do love their. Their. Their culture.
Sloan
If you were to describe your style in one word, what would it be?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Wow.
Sloan
One. Okay. English word and then a Greek word.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I don't. I don't. I don't have a word. I'm like a chameleon. I could wear anything.
Sloan
Okay, chameleon. That.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
That's your word.
Sloan
Perfect. Okay, now say it in Greek. Wow, cool. Can you teach me how to say that?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Say again?
Sloan
Teach me how to say that.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So it's just use the word hame and then go with the word lion. Like leodas. Yes.
Sloan
Look at me. I'm basically fluent in Greek at this point. What is your go to? Emoji.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Is either fire or the emoji with the stars for eyes.
Sloan
That's my favorite. I always use that one. That's perfect. What is your favorite candy?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Wow. So many candy. Fan house always gives me, like, this kind of boxes with, like, all these rare candies. Yeah.
Sloan
Okay. I want to. Okay. I'm so curious because I always used to see that on Giannis's Instagram stories where he says those giant boxes of candy. I'm like, where did he get that from? I want it. I love candy.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
We'll send you some boxes for sure. Thanks.
Sloan
Okay, sure.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I'll send you some boxes with the company. Just let me know what you need.
Sloan
Candy. Literally all before this episode, my friend and I went to CVS. We bought, like, 10 bags of candy, and we made a candy salad, all of it, and basically just ate it. Like, that's literally. I love it.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
We got you good, good, good. Destroyer candy. But I think I'm. I can't Pick specifically now, but I'll say like my jellos. Like jellies. I would say. Yeah, not sour patch, but like that vibe.
Sloan
Okay. Who is the most famous person in your contacts?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Wow, that's crazy. Who's the most famous person? I don't know how to. How to answer this because, like.
Sloan
Yeah, I'm sure you have a lot of famous people.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, I'm saying. Okay, take. So. Okay. Take the family out. Out of it. Wow. I gotta pick somebody. Not. Not like how do. How do. What's defining famous?
Sloan
Oh, I see what you're. Okay, we'll just. Just list them, the famous people in your contacts. You don't have to say like the most famous because there's different types of fame, right? Actors, singers, athletes.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
It's. Hold on, let me, let me.
Sloan
Okay, we're pulling out the phone, guys. We're pulling out the phone. Maybe just most famous follower, if that's easier.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Hold up, let me check.
Sloan
Thanas is taking this seriously. He.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I feel like he has.
Sloan
His context is just basically like the A list and like people magazines, top people. And he just.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, it's not. It's not top people. Do we. Is it basketball?
Sloan
Okay, you're serious?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Is it. What is it?
Sloan
I don't know. It could be anyone. Just the most famous. Like if you have LeBron artists. Yeah, it could be an artist.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I'm not going to put basketball because you could be.
Sloan
Eliminate basketball. Okay, we're eliminating basketball. Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Eliminate basketball.
Sloan
So others like actors, singers, singers, but not boy. Okay, there we go. There we go. You don't want to call him. You obviously should call him.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I could. I'm not going to.
Sloan
You guys aren't boys like that.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
We. Then you know what? It's so crazy. I know for sure. I think he would. He would pick up.
Sloan
Well, I mean. Yeah, he's getting the call from.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, no, no, no, no. Not. Not because of that. Not because of that. It's because I'm a good kid in general. Because of that. But. Okay, but. Yeah, no, for sure. But basketball. But we all know each other, so we don't really. I don't think you need to call.
Sloan
Each other that much.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, I don't think that's considered.
Sloan
Oh, famous to you. Well, maybe famous to us.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, true.
Sloan
Yeah. Okay. Who is your celebrity lookalike?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I. Well, I got this celebrity somebody. Okay. Celebrity who looks like.
Sloan
Celebrity who looks like you.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yes. DK Metcalf. Crazy, right?
Sloan
That's so funny.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
You know how many times. This is crazy. I had some memes that people say, like, we've never seen DK and Thanas in the same room.
Sloan
I'm like, guys, that's so funny. I really see that. That's a really good one. Okay, lastly, what's your favorite podcast?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
You know, is Dicky Mac somebody else? Sorry, no. Okay, what's his name? Brown. Brown. Brown. Brown. Brown. Tech. Tech. Tech. Brown. What's.
Sloan
Wait, is he. Is this an athlete?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Is he reviews tech? He. He does reviews for technology.
Sloan
Techno.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Marcus Brown. Marcus Brownley.
Sloan
Marcus Brown.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I heard that before too.
Sloan
He's also.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Okay, DK is one.
Sloan
Dk. I see that one. Okay, lastly, what is your favorite podcast?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I. For your podcast to listen to?
Sloan
No, just your favorite podcast. Nas, I'm sending you up. I'm. I'm. I'm giving you an alley overn.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Sloan.
Sloan
Sloan Nose.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, but Slow Nose. But how do you. Do you have. Is it the Slow Nose show or the Slow Nose podcast?
Sloan
It's just Slow Nose.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Slow Nose.
Sloan
That's just the vibe.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
That's my favorite podcast.
Sloan
Yeah, exactly.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Tune in.
Sloan
Exactly. Thank you.

We talk sports, but we talk pop culture and music and a little bit of everything because we got lots to say. I. I texted you, and you texted me back. Now, I don't know if you have the update, but, like, all the little thumbs up and heart and stuff, like, it's all colored. They changed it, and the heart's a little pink. It felt like I told you I loved you. I'm gonna be honest. It was a little pink.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
There was something sentimental when you. Like when you send it. It was like, do I send the heart now?
Adnan Virk
I don't like the color edition.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
It's extremely pink.
Adnan Virk

Sloan
All right, so now we're, like we said, Sloan knows, right? But does Thanassis know? I don't know. Look at that. I'm just really using that word big time. Okay, I'm gonna ask you trivia, Thanasis, about yourself, about me. Let's see if you can do this. All right. How many Greek players have there ever been in NBA history?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Okay, let me see. I'll just count them right now.
Sloan
Okay, we need to put the, like, the really fast filter on this one. You know, just like all your.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No.
Sloan
He'S locked in.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I want to say 10, 11, 19. 19.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Tell me the names you have.
Sloan
I don't have the names on here, but we'll get them for you after this. We'll read them.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Please get. Please get them.
Sloan
Got you.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I know at least 11, 12 of.
Sloan
Them for maybe the other.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I know at least 12. 11, 12 of them. Like. Okay, I'll just give you the names. Okay. Papayanic, Fortis, Spanish, and then it's Jan Goalex.
Sloan
Okay, so that's what we have. We'll look it up, we'll get you the whole list. All right, so in your D League debut with the 87ers, which is such a funny name, 87ers. The 87ers. All right. How many points did you score?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I can't remember. Probably, like I want to say, I'm close to. It's between 8 to 12.
Sloan
Close. 14.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
14. Captain Charge. 14 points.
Sloan
Look at you.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
In Canton.
Sloan
Was that game.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yes. 14 points.
Sloan
Yes. Canton, Charge.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yes.
Sloan
That was gonna be my other question. Who did you put?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Okay, good.
Sloan
Canton. Exactly. Okay, so you made your NBA debut in 2016. What team did you play against and who is the leading scorer of that game?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Shoe.
Sloan
Yeah, I'm really asking you. The big ones.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Wow.
Sloan
So, okay, so you're on the Knicks.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I'm on the Knicks. Is either two teams and you talk, is either the warriors.
Sloan
Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Or the Phoenix Suns.
Sloan
It is one of those two teams. I'm not going to tell you.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
It's either the warriors or the Phoenix Suns. And one of the games. Was it Steph? One of the games.
Sloan
Well, it's not the warriors, so.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Not the Warriors. Okay. It's the Phoenix Suns. Oh, my God. Okay. It was the Phoenix Suns. And was he Melo? Who's.
Sloan
Okay. Carmelo had 19, but Devin. Booker had 21.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Devin had 21.
Sloan
Yes. Uhhuh.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Okay.
Sloan
That was close. That was close. So far I've gotten any points, but I'm going to be nice. So I'll give you like a few fake points because you've been close, you know, and I feel bad. Okay, so when you played for BC And Dora, you played a huge role on the team and you got them out of their playoff drought of how many years?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Wow. Yeah, I did remember that because I remember when I first went to Spain and I went there to play for them, they were like, hey, we haven't been in the playoffs. We want to make the Kings Leagues.
Sloan
Cup in a while. Exactly how long, though?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Wow. I don't know. I want to say, like, I don't know. 5 years, 10 years.
Sloan
No, 22 years.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
22 years. Oh my God, Yes. There you go.
Sloan
Yeah. Look at you. Finasic. That was good time. That's all. Finasic.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Thank you. 22 years. Here's. First of all, I want to shout out to Andorra. So I love you guys. Amazing fan, by the way, I think.
Sloan
Really?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah. That's great. I love Spain.
Sloan
Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So I actually won an award in Spain.
Sloan
Yes, I saw. Right. Most. Isn't it called most spectacular player instead of most valid?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
And I was, I was shocked when I won it because I remember they told me to go to travel to Madrid. I was like, why am I going to this place?
Sloan
You were the most spectacular.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, no. Yeah, but I think it was just like. I think they wanted to set a representative from every team. And then once I went there, they were like, hey, actually wanted to surprise you because you actually won. But they didn't want to tell me what I won, so I was like.
Sloan
You didn't know what it was?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
It was good. Most Spectacular. At least I was good also.
Sloan
Most spectacular player is such a better name. The most valuable player. Like that's like so cool. That gives you so much aura. I love that. Okay, next trivia question. During the 2023 Basketball World cup, how many rebounds did you average?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
World Cup? Oh my God. How would I. I mean, it was four. It was four games. I don't know. Three rebounds? Three.
Sloan
It was.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, it was five. Literally five, Four, five games that we. Literally, yeah.
Sloan
Three, three rebounds. Uhhuh. I like to ask the most random questions possible. Like I'm not going to ask about how many points, cuz you could know that.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah.
Sloan
Okay, so including you and Giannis, who played on the same team, which is really cool, how many pairs of brothers in NBA history have ever played on the same team?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
On the same team?
Sloan
Yes. Obviously there's been so many brothers in the league, but yeah, on the same team is a much smaller number. Number.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I know, I know. Four for a fact.
Sloan
Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
But I don't think the number is four. It has to be more. Right? It's the NBA, so it has to be more. Okay, so I'll double that. Eight.
Sloan
Yes.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah.
Sloan
And you know that when Brooke and Robin Lopez, when they were playing together, they were. You and y were also on the team, so it's crazy. Two of those pairs.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Morris brothers as well. And Gordon Dragic's brothers as well.
Sloan
Exactly.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
So I knew, I knew.
Sloan
That's a great, great segue into our last final.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Thank you. Thank you.
Sloan
Question. Thanassis how many pairs of brothers are there currently in the NBA and can you name them?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Currently in the NBA? Holidays.
Sloan
Yes.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
McDaniels.
Sloan
Yes.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yes. So that's two. Just give me a hint. How many more are they?
Sloan
Oh, you just want me.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Just give me.
Sloan
Oh, okay. Well, I'll tell you.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I'll tell you which ones I.
Sloan
Watch this. I'm gonna do some crazy math in my.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Like.
Sloan
Okay, wait, wait. Okay, so there's.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Wait, just give me the number. I'll tell you who.
Sloan
I need you to.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
You wanted to guess the number.
Sloan
You have to guess the number. That's part of the trick. I was going to give you a long, like math. Wait, now I want to think.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Okay, no, no, no. I'll give you the numbers. Some d. Holidays. Wagner. Three.
Sloan
Yes. To speed the process up, I'm going to tell you that it's a much bigger number than three.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Okay.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Wow. I'm. I'm. Wow. People are missing right now.
Sloan
There's a few that are fairly obvious, but it's. It's confusing because you don't always think of them this way.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Meaning Morris. Morris is. Morris.
Sloan
Yes. But they're twins. That's obvious.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Yeah. Morris. Obviously, I just didn't say. Because I saw it. I said it before.
Sloan
Yeah.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Somebody. I'm. I'm. So it's more way. So it's more way more than, like, eight.
Sloan
Yes. Not. Wait, it's.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
It's close to. So. So it's 10, then.
Sloan
No.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
What is it? How many?
Sloan
14.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
14.
Sloan
Do you want me to read them or do you want to keep guessing?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, so I'll. I'll guess the. The. So I get. So we said the number is 14. I'll guess the cup. So we said McDaniels.
Sloan
Yep.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
We said Wagner. We said. What else do we say, Morris? I'm going down the list of every team, and every. Is it Mobley?
Sloan
Yes. Mobley's. Exactly. Good one. That was a big poll. Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, that. That was on the.
Sloan
There's a very.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I went straight to the bag for that one. I went straight to the bag for that one. So that's four. So we got 10 more.
Sloan
Yes.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Wow.
Sloan
I feel like I should just.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Holidays.
Sloan
Yes. Holly. Sorry. Sorry.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Okay.
Sloan
Holiday. Holidays.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Oh, no. Give me. Give me 30 seconds.
Sloan
Okay. You take this trivia very seriously. I appreciate it.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Everything. I take everything serious. That's. That's how you win. Take stuff seriously. Yeah.
Sloan
Winner's mentality. Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Why am I stuck right now? West or east or west? Give Me. The Easter West.
Sloan
There's brothers in both.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, I'm saying we. Which one of the more players?
Sloan
Mostly West.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
West Jones.
Sloan
Yes. Correct.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Good, good. I'm there. I'm there. So. So I'm. I'm in a good headspace. I'm there.
Sloan
Someone we talked about earlier on the show. We talked like a whole. For like two minutes about him. He has a brother in the beginning of the.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
We talking about him?
Sloan
Remember we were talking about, like the most improved player there? Yeah. Cody Williams brother.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I didn't know Cody was his brother.
Sloan
Yeah. The NAS says they look exactly alike. Okay, well, they're brothers. Okay.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
I don't know if they look. They're not. I mean. Yeah. Okay, that's good. That's great. You got. Got your family, Lee. That's. That's tough, right? That's big time right there. Yeah. Who's. Okay, just give me. Give me their names. Go.
Sloan
Well, the Lopez's, the Curries.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yes.
Sloan
Okay. Which you didn't. That's the one I was saying was really obvious.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Oh, yes. But I don't. Okay.
Sloan
You don't think. What?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
No, I thought it was going to be the new Lopez.
Sloan
Yeah. Okay. The Morrises, the holidays. The Martins, the balls. The McDaniels, the movies. Huh?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Martins.
Sloan
Yeah. You said. Wait, Caleb and.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yeah, they're okay.
Sloan
Yeah. Okay. Okay. May Daniels, Mobley Wagner's, Murray's, Champagne's. Justin and Julian, The Joneses, the Thompson twins, and the Williams.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Williams. Oh, my God. This is genetics, right?
Sloan
Three of those are twins. Pretty exciting genetics right there. I know, genetics, but still, your family is the only family to have other than. No, the holidays.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Have holidays.
Sloan
3. So you're of the mo. Look at that. Good. Good for you. Good.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Sloan
Oh, you're leaving me hanging.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
That's all right.
Sloan
Thanasis, my final question on. On Sloanos. This has been a fun episode. Who do you want to nominate to be the next guest?
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Who do I want to nominate to be the next guest? You got to get Shaq here if you haven't already.
Sloan
Shaq. Okay. I haven't had him yet. That's a big one.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
You should. You shouldn't. I think he's fun. I think he's gonna. He's gonna like, grace podcast with his presence and he knows basketball.
Sloan
Grace it. With his presence. Yes, he does.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Yes. And like, he's such a down to earth guy. So he would do this in a heartbeat.
Sloan
Yeah, probably. Okay, well, if you want to call him, let me know.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Out.
Sloan
Or if you want to call any other members of your family to be on here also let me know. You know it works for me either way.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo
You could. You could get Giannis whichever one just pick. They're all funny and they're all like.
Sloan
All of them. What about that? Look at that. Okay, look at vanass and I just making business works. This is great. Well, thank you guys so much for listening. Bye. Thank you C.
