Brock Purdy. I see my phone has like 80 messages and I'm like, oh, no, who died? You know, you have that thought, like, what happened?
Covino
Somebody died.
Rich Davis
And no, quite the opposite. Brock Purdy signs a deal of all deals with the 49ers. And I want to thank Dan Buyer, who was covering for us, covered the story perfectly. And Dan was kind enough to call me to get my 49 perspective.
Dan Buyer
Yeah, well, we figured it was only right, like, what, what luck that you would be on the air in the morning.
Rich Davis
Yes.
Dan Buyer
Not when the news actually broke. And it wasn't like 6. 45 Eastern, 3. 45 Pacific. It was 5:03 Eastern, 203. So right at the start of the show. So you would have had all two hours to talk Brock Purdy.
Covino
It was a tailor made for Rich, but we filled in for Dan, so we missed it.
Host 1
Maybe it's good we weren't here.
Covino
Yeah, maybe not, because you would have heard Rich just screaming about it for 2 hours. But db real solid move to call up Rich or get Rich on the horn to give his two cents. But what was your first thoughts, Rich, when you heard the big announcement?
Rich Davis
You know, initially I didn't have like a love or hatred of the deal, but the more I'm looking at it and the more, you know, hearing Dan and Monsie talk about it on Friday, that's really fair.
Covino
That's my first instinct.
Rich Davis
And sometimes all parties, you. You nailed it. Sometimes when something's so fair, the story.
Covino
Sort of like, oh, okay, yeah, but that's nice, right? It's like, hey, yeah, that makes sense.
Rich Davis
I almost feel like they got it right. Where for us, you know, when we do a radio show, a podcast, we're having fun. It would be more entertaining to be like, man, he took the 49ers for all they're worth. Or, man, I can't believe the Niners stiffed them. Like, the storyline to me seems like, all right, now he's what, the seventh or eighth most highest paid quarterback? Which if the 49ers think he's the guy to win, that seems about where he should be. Top 10, but not at the top.
Host 1
How did he get a no trade clause?
Covino
Maybe that's how he got a more fair deal out of it. Maybe he's like, look, I. I'm not going to try to haggle with you over chump change. But throw that clause in there, we got a deal.
Rich Davis
I mean, there's guys above him on the pay grade scale that I don't think are that much better than him. I think he's sort of where he fits, I guess you'd say.
Dan Buyer
I think your point, and it's something that Monty and I talked about on Friday, of the belief of Kyle Shanahan and John lynch that There may be 31 other teams that wouldn't want to pay him $53 million a year, but the 49ers were definitely were willing to do so. And I also just never thought that he was going to get a Sam Darnold 35, $40 million a year contract. And so when people were saying, oh, they spent too much, that wasn't the question. It's do you want to spend 50 million and have them, or you want to let go and go in a different direction? Because there was no way he was going to take anything less than what he got.
Rich Davis
And if you believe in Brock Purdy, I really do feel like the guys around him as far as pay goes. Let me. Let me read some of the names.
Covino
Do you believe in Brock Purdy?
Rich Davis
Do you believe in Purdy? And I hope you do. Now, listen, he's no Josh Allen. He's no Joe Burrow, and those guys only making a couple mil more a year. Dak Prescott. I'm not a. You know, me. I don't. I don't think Dax should be the highest paid.
Covino
Yeah, but that's all the flex of the NFL. You know, sometimes I believe that players go to places they wouldn't normally want to go just because they want to flex, that they're the highest paid. Like your boy Juan Soto.
Rich Davis
Oh, geez. We're not talking about.
Covino
I know. I'm just saying I don't think Juan.
Rich Davis
Soto cared to be the highest paid, by the way.
Covino
Yeah. All right. Seems real happy with the Mets. It's all about the money. You're crazy if you think it was about the Mets.
Rich Davis
Now, guys that are making around the same money as Brock Purdy are guys that I don't think are much better than him or better than him at all. So I feel like if you look at, like, Danny G. If I say.
Covino
It'S also fit, though, two ways make sense. It's a good fit for both.
Rich Davis
Jared Goff, like, those are guys that you would put in the same conversation, same breath as Purdy.
Host 1
Really?
Covino
You don't think, talent wise, I don't know.
Rich Davis
I would take him over to any day of the week. And Jared Goff, I think they're. I think. I think they're in the same conversation. I don't look at Jared Goff and say, you know what? The Rams got rid of Jared Goff to win a Super Bowl.
Host 1
Yeah. But then he's gone on to have success with the Lions when everybody thought he was a throwaway in the trade.
Rich Davis
Same level of success Brock Purdy's had with the Niners.
Podcast Narrator
You got to strip away who's around him and what kind of play caller he has or what kind of, like, offensive scheme he has. I think they're very comparable because the Lions have a lot of weapons. The Niners have a lot of weapons. They both have had great play callers. So I think, I think that's about on par.
Rich Davis
And when the 49ers are decimated, Brock Purdy played okay. When Matthews. I'm sorry, When Jared Goff played on teams that didn't have a lot of weapons, it was okay. Like, I think, I think it's comparable. I think they're awfully close to the highest paid guys. But then again, all the, all the quarterbacks, these guys are all fifty million dollar men now.
Host 1
I mean, last year on our show, you said you thought he was around a 40, $45 million quarterback.
Rich Davis
And you know what? Going into this negotiation, I can't lie. I think he. I believe that. But if you think he's the guy, you're going to have to pay him this amount.
Dan Buyer
Yeah. And I just. That number's not realistic. Yeah, it's, it's not. They're going to pay him $45 million. Again, they're saying we will pay you 40 to 45, but if not, then we'll just go in a different direction. And I don't think that they're ready to go in a different direction. So they have to pay the tax of bumping it up. If you want to look at it that way, I don't think the 49ers.
Host 1
Look at it as a tax.
Dan Buyer
I think they fully believe in everything that he's done.
Rich Davis
I have a question. We talk about, we talk about this in all other forms of business, like whatever you do for a living. Listening around the country right now, if you told your boss, like, this is what I want or I'll go elsewhere. Listen, if you could go elsewhere, go get paid. Right. I just wonder, is there another team in the NFL that would have paid Brock Purdy 53 million? Because that's what market value would dictate but I just don't know. I think the Niners were fair to him also based on the fact that he got him to a Super bowl and an NFC championship game, making like hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
Covino
Proven he could do it there with that system, and that he's coachable, much like golf, as Sam insinuated before. So, yeah, very comparable. So I think, again, like you said, Rich, it may be boring, but it's actually nice to hear that it seemed like a fair deal for everyone involved that just made sense.
Rich Davis
Like, hey, partly, I don't think there's. There's much meat on this bone, as they say, because again, I feel like it was a story that sort of came and went because I think the narrative is like, well, I guess it's sort of a fair deal. Move it along. No controversy. To answer your question, lynch and Shanahan like him.
Covino
You know, I don't think a lot of teams would have paid him more than that. So he took what he can get and he was happy with it, and.
Rich Davis
Both parties win, but not only took what he could get. I'm saying if. If the Niners said, hey, no, no, no, 45 a year, what would Brock Purdy have done? Be like, no, I'm not signing. We saw this NFL quarterback, but it.
Covino
Would prolong the process.
Rich Davis
I know the Niners would then would have been like, oh, man, where do we go from here?
Covino
Right?
Rich Davis
But I just wonder where Brock Purdy goes from there.
Dan Buyer
You put the franchise take on him, which is about $46 million next season, and then you have that same discussion the next year when the franchise tag would be worth even more and don't have the contract flexibility that you would have in signing him to this sort of long term deal.
Rich Davis
And if you did what you just mapped out, it's disrespectful to a guy that was your Mr. Irrelevant and has done so much and seems to be a popular guy in the clubhouse locker room and seems to be a guy that John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers believe in.
Covino
So what a story, though, you know, as you sign this contract and we move forward and we get ready to watch the rest of his career with San Francisco, at least you have to say, one of the better stories in sports ever. It's like the story of the ugly duckling or something brought to life. It really is like no one wanted him. He's relevant, and then he flourishes into this beautiful swan of a quarterback that has a big fat contract. Now Honestly, it's one of the best. And that just makes it solid right there. That's the story.
Host 1
And to your point, Covino, check out this stat. Brock Purdy's rookie contract paid him an average of $934,252 per season. Now, he'll make that every 6.4 days.
Rich Davis
You know, got to feel good for the kid.
Covino
Does he got to feel good, though? That's the key in all of life and in all of sports. Does he stay hungry? Because what made him great, probably. Well, he has great discipline. He seems like a great guy, but it's the fact that he had this chip on his shoulder to prove that he was relevant. Now that he's got his payday, does that change a guy like him? I don't think so, but you could speculate.
Rich Davis
Well, we'll see what happens this year. Now, I'm not saying there's a pressure on, but. All right, now you're paid like a top 10 quarterback. Can you take this roster that lost a couple pieces, win 10, 11, 12 games and get the 49ers back to where they were? If he could do that, then why don't you say, well, you know what? He's worth it. He's the guy.
Covino
Definitely. If they only. The only reason you question him. The stats are there. It's already proven. It's his osh shucks, little baby boy face and the fact that he's Mr. Irrelevant. He's an unassuming guy. He doesn't have superstar qualities, but he wins.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Covino
So that's the only reason we even question it, because he doesn't have superstar qualities. But guess who else didn't? The guy with the sweetest diet that we're going to talk about later. Tom Brady. Yeah, he wasn't a superstar, but he had work ethic.
Podcast Narrator
And it's funny, we're comparing golf to. We're talking about the number one overall pick, which was Jared Goff.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Podcast Narrator
To Mr. Irrelevant. The very final pick. And I have to imagine that Goff just being taller and having longer arms and bigger hands made him obviously a more, you know, desirable quarterback coming out of College.
Covino
Yeah. So five years, 265, no trade clause. Danny G. Scratches his head on that one. Maybe he just threw that in. Like I said, when I'm buying a car, Danny G. Right. Just when I'm about to sign the deal, I'm like, you know what if you throw in some car washes, free car washes, then I'll take it.
Host 1
Covino said, I want A shoulder massage once a week. Secretary.
Covino
I want some sweet new floor mats or something. Those rubber ones. Yeah, I want something. You want something extra, right? Right in there at the end of the deal. Maybe he's like, guys, we got. Wait a second.
Rich Davis
Hold up, hold on.
Covino
I'll do this deal. I love it, in fact. But no trade clause and like. All right, you know what? Let's just get it done. So props to him, man. It's a really, really great story, Rich. Well, now what happens here? Honestly, it's not that it doesn't matter, but you got a children's book already.
Host 1
Boom.
Covino
You know how it ends. And Brock Purdy, Mr. Irrelevant, signed a five year deal for $265 million. The end doesn't matter what he does.
Rich Davis
And he won. And he won a Super Bowl. Can we throw that in?
Covino
I mean, but you could write that book now and it's a bestseller.
Rich Davis
We hope that's where the story goes.
Covino
But yeah, it could get even better than that.
Rich Davis
Well, just to put in perspective, I would say don't sleep on it.
Covino
It's one of the best stories ever.
Rich Davis
I would say the American dream is still alive.
Covino
Yes, yes. Honestly, don't forget about the story. As our old boss used to say, think of the story. This is a movie in the making and it already ends with a happy ending right here. And it could get even better.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Put in perspective, it was 2021 when Brock Purdy waited every single round of that draft thinking, oh, man, all that hard work in college, every step of the way, hey, man, I'm not going to get drafted. I may end up in a practice squad. Maybe a practice squad. Maybe I'll get some reps against, you know, the first team, maybe. Maybe some team carries me along and I make practice squad money. He gets picked. Trey Lance stinks. Jimmy Garoppolo gets hurt. And here is Brock Purdy. It is an amazing story, but to put in perspective, that draft in 2021, who is a top 20 pick? Mac Jones. Right.
Covino
In 2021. Yeah, I think so. Around that time.
Rich Davis
Mac Jones is now Brock Purdy's backup. Who else was in that draft? Number three overall. The 49ers gave up a lot to get Trey Lance.
Covino
Oh, yeah.
Rich Davis
Who? Who signed a one year, $6 million deal with the Chargers. So just to show you how much changes, there's no way Zach Wilson was in the draft.
Covino
You did number two.
Host 1
Jones was 15th overall.
Covino
Trevor Lawrence was number one.
Rich Davis
Wait, so Zach Wilson. Mac Jones. Wait, Zach Wilson was in that draft?
Covino
Yeah, he Was number two, Trevor Lawrence number one.
Rich Davis
And Trevor Lawrence isn't even working out to the way they wanted to. So you know, that was a quarterback top heavy draft and Brock Purdy was probably thinking, man, it's, it's not going to work out. Meanwhile, here's a guy a couple years later just to show you how things could change so quickly. Do you ever. Does he ever think he would have been the guy making 50 to 60 million dollars?
Dan Buyer
So just on over the cap.com when you break down their yearly salaries, Purdy is behind Mac Jones and Curtis Rourke on his own team of salaries for what would be for the rookie contract. What'd you say, Danny? 934,000.
Host 1
Yeah.
Dan Buyer
Yeah. So it's. So I mean you mentioned Jones being the backup. Curtis Rourke's deal is actually worth more than what Purdy had, man.
Rich Davis
So just, just to show you how, just belief in yourself.
Covino
That's it. By the way, did you ever see that clip you had to have because you're a 49ers fan? But not everybody lives for the 49ers like Rich does where Nick Bosa has a one on one like private moment with Purdy capture on film. And Bosa's like, he opens up real vulnerable and he's like, I was a first round pick, man, and I'm nervous sometimes, man. I don't know how you do it. I don't know how you have that belief in yourself, man. And Brock Purdy's almost brought to tears because he just has this crazy belief in himself that you just got to give him credit where it's due.
Rich Davis
Good for him. Give credit where it's due.
Host 1
Rich, do you ever think about how two Super Bowls ago you could have ended Purdy's career prematurely because he almost tore his ACL when you, when you scared him in the, in the staircase.
Rich Davis
Chase him down a stairwell. By the way, happy for Brock. Let's go Niners.
Covino
And young quarterback has heart attack because he's startled by maniac fans.
Dan Buyer
And Fred Warner got his deal. We had that at the top of the hour. So he's the highest paid linebacker again in the National Football League.
Host 1
Niners making it rain right now.
Rich Davis
So you know what? Maybe all is okay in the Bay Area. Santa Clara, we'll. We'll see. I mean their, their schedule. I've heard Colin point this out, stars, but if Brock Purdy can't win 11, 12 games with this weakest schedule they got, then, then you got to start scratching your head. But the 49ers have the weakest schedule I've seen in a decade.
Covino
Rich, does this remind you the other side story here is the reason we're talking about it now is because we weren't on our normal time slot on Friday when it happened. Dan Beyer made the announcement. Meanwhile, it would have been Rich because it happened during this time, but we were filling it for Dan Patrick. Does it make you think of like, man, I should have been there. Moments like when you're Rich was employed by another radio station and didn't show up on his last day and everyone showed up there with a cake for him on that day.
Rich Davis
To this day, it's one of my saddest regrets.
Covino
So now you got another one.
Rich Davis
You know what I thought over there.
Covino
For the big Purdy announcement wasn't.
Rich Davis
I'll think of one. I'll put it in here.
Host 1
He threw the last pass to Deebo though.
Covino
That wasn't there.
Rich Davis
I'll give you one that'll ring true to you. Being that Steve Camino all things Yankees didn't. Michael K. He was all butthurt. That the game where Aaron Judge was like trying to break the record. It was like an Apple TV game.
Covino
Yeah, yeah. That was a big story. And he missed out on opening day, I believe this year. Right? Wasn't it?
Rich Davis
It was his first opening day.
Covino
He missed first opening day that he wasn't a part of. But yeah, the Judge thing was that was a big deal though. And I get where you're coming from. It just makes you think of on a side note of things you missed out on that you should have been at, but for whatever reason or another, you weren't able to make it. And we filled in for DP on Friday. Catch the podcast if you missed it. Brock Purdy, man.
Rich Davis
I think the only narrative that changes.
Covino
How about him making. What's the expression when you make people like eat their words. Isn't there an expression for that?
Podcast Narrator
Eat crow.
Covino
Yeah, eat crow. How about him?
Rich Davis
Your grandma.
Covino
Yeah, that's why I looked at Sam, because he has references of an 80 year old.
Host 1
Yeah. So she also says as the crow flies.
Covino
No, but it's true.
Podcast Narrator
That's a good thing because that matters. That's straight line like a. It's not roads meander.
Covino
How about the real. The real part of the story that everybody can relate to the satisfaction one gets when you make people eat crow. He doesn't have to say anything. But you know what? How many people on tv.
Host 1
Danny G. Please don't say that again.
Covino
You were just saying it. How many People were saying he's a nobody quarterback. A nobody quarterback.
Rich Davis
Nothing from.
Covino
He has no athleticism, no star power. He's just here for the moments, the system. He's gonna be a nobody.
Host 1
There was a take that we. That stands out to us, that we saw on FS1 where the panel was arguing, would he have to win two Super Bowls to be a legitimate star quarterback in the league?
Covino
Yeah. Where are those people now? You know what? However, making people eat crow, That's. That's such a great feeling, man. I wish that for everybody, however, everybody's doubted at one point.
Rich Davis
With the money now does come the expectation. Right. Like, when Brock Purdy would ever slip up. It's like, yeah, but we got it for, like, nothing. What a steal. It's Brock Purdy now when he's making, like, practically, you know, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence money, he's right there in that same pocket of golf and Tua, you know, top 10 QB money.
Covino
Nah, because you know what? This adds to the crowd or whatever that means. It does. It does, because now people are gonna be like, yeah, but is he really worth it? Now he has to prove.
Podcast Narrator
Yeah, the criticism will be tenfold.
Covino
The criticism's still gonna be there. So it just puts more of a chip, more of a fire in his belly, and now more reason to have them eat crow even more, whatever that means. You know, I. I feel that inside. Rich, There's. There's a part of me.
Host 1
We asked you not to say that again.
Covino
I'm sorry. But there's a part of me, and I think a part of everybody. Yeah. That uses things like that as motivation. You could let it. Let it fire you down, or you could let it fire you up. And I definitely use that as fuel to my fire and everything that I do. Anyone that doubted me, anyone that didn't believe in me, dude, here's the crow now. I want to shove it in your face.
Rich Davis
Now, as much as I would love that to be the narrative, because if you don't know Kavino and Rich. Rich Davis, I'm a Niners fan. So I want Brock Purdy to show everyone that I'm worth 53 million. In fact, I love it. Niners got me on a steal of a deal, the wheel of a deal, and watch me now.
Covino
Mm. Yep.
Rich Davis
But then there's the other part of me that thinks of a famous quote from Queen Latifah.
Host 1
Uh. Oh.
Rich Davis
First time someone's quoted Queen Latifah on Fox Sports Radio, I bet.
Podcast Narrator
No, Danny did last week.
Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
I don't know. I mean, that was Ben Maller, big Queen Latifah fan.
Covino
I don't.
Host 1
Your boy Maller says that Purdy doesn't elevate anybody around him.
Rich Davis
That guy's full of baloney. That guy's full of gabagoola. What does he make? The baba ganoush. That guy's full of baba ganoush. Look at that guy.
Covino
Gaba ghoul.
Rich Davis
It looks like Shrek eating baba ganoush.
Podcast Narrator
It was baba ganoush. Now it's gabagool in the promo.
Rich Davis
And you don't make baba. You don't make gabagool. Could someone tell him it's an Italian meat? You don't make it. You don't mix it. Anyway, There is that sense of Queen Latifah. There's a saying where you get way more famous before you become rich. Meaning a lot of celebrities will make their best stuff. Best albums, best movies, best shows. And they're not really paid much. Then they get paid a ton to do a hunk of junk. The album they got paid the most for is their stinker. The movie that they got paid 20 mil to do is the box office pooper.
Covino
So you're famous before you become rich.
Rich Davis
Yeah. So I'm just. I'm just hoping that we didn't see the best of Brock Purdy. I don't hope. I hope we don't look back and say, I remember in the beginning, NFC championship, got hurt, then went to the Super Bowl. Like, I'm hoping Brock Purdy's not a no playoff wild card quarterback. And we're like, oh, remember the good old days when we thought.
Covino
I don't think you'll get that from Brock.
Rich Davis
I certainly hope not.
Covino
I just don't. I don't think he's that type of.
Rich Davis
And there's guys, I love their confidence. Like Big Brandon who works here, one of the editors. He's a Big Niners guy. He's a firm believer that because he's.
Covino
Also a guy that they have to build around. He's not the superstar. They'll have a superstar line. They'll continue giving him weapons that he needs.
Rich Davis
They give him superstar money, though.
Covino
Yeah, no, no. But there's still money for other players. It's fair money.
Rich Davis
What I'm saying is guys like our buddy Brandon believe that when you have front offices like Kyle Shanahan and John lynch, there are certain offices in all sports where you could guarantee that they'll always be competitive because of the way they run the organization. So you could Argue that the Niners drafted well this year. You will see, right? I mean, who knows? But with their weak ass schedule, Brock Purdy is soft, launching, you know. You know when a pitcher comes back from the IL and you really hope their first start back is against a bunk team like Kavino. You wouldn't want a pitcher, you wouldn't want Garrett Cole's first start to be against like the Dodgers. Right, because you're like, wait, throwing it to the wolves right away.
Covino
Right?
Rich Davis
I think you always want your star pitcher to come back and play like the Marlins in their first game.
Podcast Narrator
You want to build off the contract, play the Angels.
Rich Davis
Yeah, exactly. Well, who swept the Dodgers this weekend? But I will say I think with Brock Purdy, he gets his contract.
Podcast Narrator
Sorry, dude.
Rich Davis
And then he has the weakest schedule. So Brock Purdy's essentially playing the White Sox in his first game back is what I'm saying. Well, look at the Niner schedule. They don't play any team you would consider a Super bowl contender. The Niners may be one and done in the playoffs, but I bet you the Niners over will hit. If it's 11 and a half in Vegas, Niners could go 14 and 3 and be that team this year. That's way overrated. They play bunk teams. Take a look when you get a chance. There's trash on that schedule, man.
Podcast Narrator
It's the NFL though. Like you never know.
Rich Davis
Like gets better.
Podcast Narrator
We talked about this on Doug Show. Like the schedules this time in May are not what they are in September and October. Injuries play a factor team surprise teams disappointed.
Rich Davis
No, I agree. Because sometimes the team could be bunk one year and then great the next year. But I'll. For example, let me just rattle off some of the 49ers opponents and tell me this isn't a great entrance for Brock purdy and is $53 million 49ers kick off the season.
Podcast Narrator
Wait, wait, wait, wait. We have to do this properly here.
Covino
The rich loves to look at the schedule, game watching.
Rich Davis
And there's not a guy that likes to look at the schedule more than me.
Covino
Huh? It's true.
Rich Davis
I'm sorry, guys. I'll just give you the first five 49ers at the Seahawks. No offense, Dan. I don't think your Seahawks are. I think I feel confident there.
Dan Buyer
Oh, you do?
Covino
Yeah.
Dan Buyer
Considering Seattle went to San Francisco last year and beat the 49ers.
Covino
They were this past year.
Host 1
Get burned.
Covino
Yeah, no.
Dan Buyer
Feel confident on all you want. Go right ahead.
Rich Davis
So one and okay. Then they play at the Saints two And oh, then they play the Cardinals at home, three zero. Then they play the Jags in Santa Clara. Four zero.
Host 1
You said that about the Cardinals last season, too.
Rich Davis
Cardinals are two.
Podcast Narrator
You know there'll be a loss in there.
Covino
Yeah, this is going to be a 3 and 2.
Rich Davis
So then they, then they play the Rams, Bucks, Falcons. Just two wins in there. The Niners, they don't play. Get this.
Podcast Narrator
That's a win. That's a loss.
Rich Davis
They don't play. They don't play Buffalo, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Green Bay, Minnesota Eagles, they play anyone that I would say Camino, give me the best teams.
Dan Buyer
Detroit, like they have the easiest schedule in the NFL in the history. Yeah, it's 41% winning percentage, something like.
Covino
That right now on paper. Yeah. But you have to deliver, so no doubt it'll help build some confidence. Hey, speaking of quarterbacks, we're going to talk Tom Brady and his crazy diet. You got to hear what's involved with this diet.

Hope you had a great weekend, guys. Hope you enjoyed the Last of Us last night.
Rich Davis
Joel. We need Joel on that show. If Joel's a Pearl Jam guy, if he's not on that show, that show stinks.
Covino
Kobe, how would your dad say it?
Rich Davis
Oh, wait, I'm sorry.
Covino
Yeah, Joel kind of looks like my dad with the mustache, but hope you had a nice weekend. Something else to look forward to. Speaking of what to watch, aside from Last of Us, if you missed it.
Rich Davis
Last of Us was fantastic.
Covino
Tomorrow's that Brett Favre documentary on Netflix. And then this Friday, I don't know if I'm the only guy, but Pee Wee Herman as himself comes out on Max. HBO Max. This Friday. Can't wait.
Rich Davis
I'll say the Alamo. So, yeah, lots of. Lots of good, random stuff. I agree with you. The Favre documentary. Trust me, I'm anxious to see that.
Covino
I know you are, but what am I?
Rich Davis
Peewee? And I honestly, Last of Us needs that Joel character without Pedro Pascal. I don't know. I'm.
Covino
But sometimes you lose the main guy and you fill the void with better people, like the Yankees, and you're better as a result.
Rich Davis
I can't, you know, listen.
Covino
Yeah. So you lose Joel, you lose Juan Soto, but you get better role players and you're a better team and show, as a result. Could happen.
Rich Davis
I'm not buying into that at all. And I'll explain why.
Covino
But we'll explain. We got to talk. This Tom Brady stuff.
Rich Davis
I'm partially distracted because we went to lunch today and I split. I had. I had a really delicious pizza. Like a little personal pizza.
Covino
Yeah. Maybe you should listen to Tom Brady's diet advice.
Rich Davis
Do you know what? I've been trimming up? This is my little cheat meal. We had a nice meeting with the bosses. I took a bite of the slice of pizza and I splashed pizza oil.
Covino
I know. And it was all over him. And I saw the bus looking at it.
Host 1
Did you split? Plat with him again? Like lady in the Tramp.
Rich Davis
We were sitting across from each other. Otherwise. But no, the whole, like, spot. I know. We're streaming on Fox Sports Radio's tough to get out.
Covino
That shirt's ruined. Shirt's over.
Rich Davis
Let's talk about Juan Soto for a second before we get to Tom Brady's diet and all this good stuff.
Covino
Tom Brady's diet.
Host 1
I thought you guys were done arguing about him.
Covino
Well, here's the story. We were arguing about him. The Yankees won the series this weekend, right? But the story today, it's like a BS Story. It's bs Says who? Who are you? BS Barakas. This is a real story.
Rich Davis
I pity you.
Covino
This is from John Boy Media, who.
Rich Davis
Reposted lip reading people in the parking lot. What is going on?
Covino
Clappish wrote this.
Rich Davis
Oh, good for him.
Covino
And you know him. He's a legitimate reporter. Mets hierarchy.
Rich Davis
But who is that now? Who is the Met hierarchy? Tell me who that is.
Covino
I don't know.
Rich Davis
Steve Cohen. All right, so now we're someone in the meter Now?
Covino
I would say anyone with two eyeballs.
Rich Davis
So now you're saying Ste. Cohen. Fair enough. Okay. Steve Cohen and Carlos Mendoza.
Covino
He's not the only guy that's of importance.
Host 1
Rich. Half the stories we have, Rich, are vague sources.
Rich Davis
Well, but he's treating this like he treats his Bigfoot stories.
Covino
Okay, okay. So you don't want me to report the story. That's everywhere right now. Even your boy KFC is talking about it. It's a story. You can believe what you want. Matt's hierarchy is concerned about Juan Soto's lack of enthusiasm. Soto agreed to be miked up during Sunday's game, but changed his mind because he's tired of answering questions about Aaron Judge and why he chose the Mets. Now, which is a side note, they went with Nimmo, and he was fantastic. So let's just give him props. Nimmo was miked up. I'm not a big fan of that. I know people are, and I see the benefits, but I want my players concentrating.
Rich Davis
I thought watching Nimmo's enthusiasm during that inning made me like him more.
Covino
Yeah, no.
Rich Davis
And I like Nimmo, but I thought it was pretty damn cool.
Covino
He was really great. He was exceptionally great. I kind of like it.
Host 1
Do you remember when Rojas had that famous play at short where he's like, hang on, guys, I got to make.
Covino
This play real quick. That was great. That was great. I know people love it. For me, I get nervous for the players sometimes, but it was supposed to be Juan Soto on a nationally televised ESPN game, and last minute, he bailed. So he bailed on reporters. I mean, he bailed on that. Then he also bailed on reporters after the loss. And it's not just that. It's the whole speculation of, you know, they signed him with the understanding that he was going to bring this flair and flavor to the New York Mets that we've seen and grown to love from Juan Soto. He's yet to do the Soto shuffle. That's one of his signature moves. Are you kidding me?
Rich Davis
There hasn't been a shuffle that hot in New York since Timmy Tuffle.
Covino
No, seriously. And he hasn't done it. You know why? It shows me that he's not in his zone. He's not quite comfortable. And maybe he does have some regrets or reservations about where he's at. And he's in his head. You know, for a guy that's supposed to be a team player, your team is still in first place. Why aren't you pumped about it? Why aren't you pumped about it?
Rich Davis
I think when you sign a contract the size of Juan Sotos, there's an expectation that will be very hard to live up to unless you win a World Series, right? And no one's. Aaron Judge, let's be honest, puts up circus numbers. So we can't compare Aaron Judge offensively to anyone else in baseball right now.
Covino
Herman Munster in patience.
Rich Davis
He really is. Is absurd.
Covino
He's hitting bombs and he's hitting for average, still over.400.
Rich Davis
I thought his best at bat was when Edwin Diaz struck him out on high heat to end the game. And the game on Saturday, that was great.
Covino
It was a battle moment. It was a battle.
Rich Davis
But with Juan Soto, it's very hard to live up. And when he's batting, you know, a pedestrian. 250 or 60, his power hasn't picked up. I get it. He walks a lot on base. So you could say, listen, you know.
Covino
How I know he has reservations or doubts? You know how I know he has doubts? Two reasons. A, his body language says everything. Not even the stats. Not even the stats. Because he has to. He has reservations. He has doubts. And here's the real answer. And you're like, whoop Dee doo. Because he's human. He's human. It wasn't an easy decision. And then he goes back to the Bronx to face his former teammates and all these fans that embraced him, kissed his ass, as Aaron Judge said over the weekend. Did everything in their power to befriend them and keep them part of the team. They had a World Series run together, came very close. And now to see all these players, former players and fans turn their back on him. It's got a sting, it's got to hurt. And it gets in his head because he's human. He's a superstar, but he's not above any normal feelings that we all would have on, man, I hope I made the right decision. It's as simple as that. So there's no guarantee that says he made the right choice. And everything this weekend reminded him of those doubts.
Rich Davis
The only thing I could take out of what you just said and agree with a little bit is we all have our doubts with everybody.
Covino
No one's above it.
Rich Davis
You take a new job, you date someone new, you move in with a girl.
Covino
Did I do the right thing?
Rich Davis
You get married, you have a kid.
Covino
Everything you do, I hope I did the right thing.
Rich Davis
There's gonna come a level of like, oh my God, what's this gonna do? Like, I remember when you know, you remember when you get your wife pregnant, you're like, oh my God, we're gonna be parents. What are we doing?
Covino
I hope we did the right thing.
Rich Davis
Everyone has little doubts that creep in their mind. So I can't say that hasn't happened to Juan Soto. God, he could be thinking, maybe I should have went to the Dodgers. Maybe I should have went to the Yankees. Maybe, maybe I'm fine here with the Mets. Mets are in first place.
Covino
Where's the shuffle, bro?
Rich Davis
He hasn't delivered. I think he's waiting until he gets hot to break out the shuffle because.
Covino
I think you gotta.
Rich Davis
The shuffle's not intense if you're batting.250.
Covino
No. Yeah, the shuffle comes with. You gotta be like, you know, in the 280 plus area.
Rich Davis
He's gotta get his swagger back.
Covino
Yep.
Rich Davis
And that will happen if you think.
Covino
I agree. But it doesn't make what we're saying not true. His lack of enthusiasm is evident.
Rich Davis
The only thing I could criticize Juan Soto for is the fact that he did a half assed job running out a ground ball to second. There was not a one bouncer routine play. Who is that to lemayhu who plays second? Few knuckleheads and Juan Soto jog down to first. And lemayhue almost misplayed it. Had he misplayed it and Juan Soto still got thrown out, it would have been a bigger story. Juan Soto's hustle wasn't there at times.
Covino
Yeah, but when you're getting paid, duck. It's like this guy, your hustle got to be there all the time. I'm sorry, that's an ex. You can't justify that. That's why they're paying him the big. The big money.
Rich Davis
But. But if you ask anyone, from Carlos Mendoza, the Mets manager, all the way down to Lindor And Alonzo and all these Nimmo and, you know, Alvarez and Winker. You think that they're not getting along with Juan Soto?
Covino
I hope so.
Rich Davis
I look at it this way. This is a 15 year relationship the Mets signed up for. You are 60 days. You're two months into one season of a 15 year contract. You gonna judge it now?
Covino
I mean, isn't that what we do all the time, every day, day by day? Yeah, if it changes and when it changes, we'll let you know. First time we see a shuffle and it's done with authority and confidence, we'll talk about it. Because so far it's not there. Yankees got the best of them. It had to be challenging and tough to see. The Yankee fans literally turned their back on him the way he did to them. And as a result, you're seeing the other guys step up. Like we said, Bellinger, freedom. Let me tell you something, Williams. And it's bigger than Yankees, Mets. Juan Soto's a superstar in the game.
Rich Davis
I just want to let it be known. Everything at first that might feel great or bad doesn't last forever. You see it all the time. A guy on your team will start at hot. A crap team. Do you remember last year when the Saints started two and oh, Danny, what did I say? I said, look at all these sad saps that should have bags on their head that are that really believe. And I'm like, they're the worst team in the NFL and what did they end up doing? They won maybe, what, one more game out of the rest of the season. They stunk. And I remember thinking, oh, look at them. They're all so happy that they're two and out. They don't realize that this is not going to last. I know that. Listen, as a Mets fan, I'll give you an example. I know Pete Alonso is not going to bat over.300 this year. It's just not going to happen. Pete alonzo is not a.300 hitter. He just had an amazing start to the season.
Covino
Yeah, it all evens out now.
Rich Davis
I don't think Aaron Judge will hit.400. He'll hit.350. 60. Things level out. Juan Soto is also not going to hit.250.
Covino
Agreed? Agreed.
Rich Davis
Max Freed is going to be a Cy Young, possible winner, but he's not going to go undefeated.
Covino
But he still is. So all we can speculate on is where we're at right now.
Rich Davis
Things level out now.
Covino
Moving on, your thoughts. 87799 on Fox.
Rich Davis
It happens at all sports.
Covino
Just 8, 7 7, 9, 9 on Fox and at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio.
Rich Davis
On social media, is Devin Williams the air going to be like 10 the whole year? No, because he's a great pitcher.
Covino
I'm seeing him step up. Yeah. So now the Yankees won that series. Hope you enjoyed your baseball.
Rich Davis
And Paul Goldschmidt, a guy that batted, a guy that batted like 250.
Covino
So impressed by this guy.
Rich Davis
I love him. I think he's a great player and a really fun guy to root for even though I don't like the Yankees. You really think he's going to bet 350?
Covino
Hey, we'll see.
Rich Davis
So saying the things reality.
Covino
Let me read this stat to you. This is not baseball or football related, okay? This is about, this is about your weight. Oh, this is from Eric Reynolds, our buddy keto5o. He reposted this nutritionist. I don't know who it was, but it was some dude that was on Joe Rogan's show, right?
Rich Davis
Oh, your friend Slim Goodbody.
Covino
Oh, yeah, it was Slim Good Body. You remember that dude?
Rich Davis
Oh, it's that John based ALF in this Made Simple.
Covino
It was a guest on the Rogan podcast, but my buddy reposted it who's a health guru. Right. So there's got to be some truth to this because a professional in the diet world posted it, at least I like to think. But the guy says the average American is fatter than the average American pig. And Joe Rogan starts to laugh like, yeah, that's a joke.
Rich Davis
That's meaning like when you call someone, look at that guy's a pig. You're saying that's an insult to pigs now?
Covino
Yes, because the average American man has 28% body fat. You writing this down?
Rich Davis
I have 28%.
Covino
The average American woman has 40% body fat. That's pretty high.
Rich Davis
Boobs and cheeks.
Covino
Boobs and cheeks. And hey, I'm not hating. I like plenty to grab onto. Right? Whole lot of Rosie. As ACDC said, I ain't hating.
Rich Davis
Maybe you're thinking Rosie o' Donnell.
Covino
I'm just stating. I'm not complaining. I'm just explaining. So again, the average American is fatter than the average American pig. Average man, 28% body fat. Average American woman, 40% body fat. The average American pig, 15 to 25% body fat.
Danny G
That's why bacon's so good.
Covino
I know, but it is weird to hear, right? Just because it's pig, right? Like, oh man, we're more pigs than pigs. That's horrible. She's a slob Yeah, I never really knew what the percentage of a pig's body fat was, but apparently ours is.
Danny G
A lot worse, let me tell you. What is it, 10 to 15%?
Covino
No, 15 to 25.
Danny G
That's actually a very difficult percentage to get as a male. So that's abs showing if you're 15% body fat as a man.
Covino
As I break that down, I gotta tell you about this Tom Brady diet. Apparently Caleb Williams began the Tom Brady TB12 diet. Could you? Would you? Should you?
Rich Davis
Danny G. You found this. And we were saying how it looks like it's like it's given up a lot.
Host 1
Yeah. Now, Caleb Williams started this diet last season.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Host 1
So he's into it. This list is long.
Podcast Narrator
So he's still doing it.
Host 1
Yep.
Covino
Since starting the diet, he can no longer eat some of. It's pretty fair. He can no longer eat dairy. Like, for a guy like me. That's perfect because you don't want me eating dairy anyway.
Rich Davis
Hold on. What now? Hold on. For you maybe, but know what I immediately think of ever, you know, have a nice little slice of Pepper Jack and a sandwich or having a little scoop of ice cream at the end of the day?
Covino
Dairy.
Podcast Narrator
Wait, Kavina, what were you getting at there? It's good if you avoid dairy.
Covino
I'm glad you're intolerant. So, you know, the less dairy I have, the better off you are.
Danny G
Pepper Jack has six. A slice of six grams of fat.
Covino
Yeah. So no dairy.
Danny G
Know that?
Covino
Off the top of my head, that's milk, cheese, yogurt or ice cream.
Host 1
And a lot of people feel better without dairy.
Covino
Yeah, it's true. Especially it affects your sinuses. It affects a lot.
Danny G
Non fat Greek yogurt is a good source of protein.
Covino
So again, he can no longer have. This is part of the TB12 diet. Milk, cheese, yogurt or ice cream.
Danny G
Okay.
Covino
Are you ready?
Rich Davis
Sounds like a lot of fun.
Covino
No beer, wine or alcoholic beverages.
Danny G
Alcohol is horrible for your body.
Covino
It's poison.
Danny G
It's poison for your body.
Podcast Narrator
Yeah, yeah, we know.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Just smoke weed instead.
Covino
Yeah, yeah.
Rich Davis
If you need to get a high, take an edible weed.
Danny G
Can hinder your muscle growth.
Covino
Okay, here's another tough one. Ready?
Danny G
Science.
Covino
Here's another thing. And it makes you wonder, well, what is he surviving on?
Podcast Narrator
Moss.
Covino
I know.
Rich Davis
And all that.
Covino
What is he eating?
Podcast Narrator
Lichens? Seaweed?
Rich Davis
Guys, we're only up to the second bullet point here. And I'm not even joking. As this goes on and on, I'm like, what does he eat? Because so far we can't eat. So so far, Tom Brady, no dairy, is not eating milk, beers, beer, no alcohol. This next one, it cancels out a bunch of things. No bacon, no sausage. So the guy's not having breakfast. Meats. No deli meats, which means the guy's never having, like, turkey or ham sandwich.
Covino
What about the gabagool spot?
Host 1
What about turkey bacon?
Danny G
Turkey bacon? Depends. Could be high in sodium. Very lean, though.
Covino
Gabagool, but no gabagool.
Rich Davis
No red meat.
Host 1
Gabagool.
Rich Davis
No bacon or sausage. No deli meats or red meat. So the guy's not having steak, he's not having a turkey sandwich for lunch. Or a ham sandwich, and he's not having bacon or sausage with, like, eggs in the morning.
Host 1
At least he can have a bagel, right?
Covino
No, because no bread. So again, yeah, no carbs. Really? No bread, no pasta, cereal, or baked goods. Okay, so there goes your bagel Ide.
Host 1
Sounds like a fun morning.
Rich Davis
But at least he could have some, like, you know, like salt and vinegar chips or, like, a cookie or something, right?
Covino
No prepackaged snacks. Cookies.
Podcast Narrator
What if they're like, wasabi peas or those. Those. Those snap peas that are, like, dried out and tasty?
Covino
Salt.
Rich Davis
No. No white sugar. No refined sugars. Now, if you think it, oh, maybe you could stop by the bakery. No cakes, no pastries, no candy.
Danny G
What about some coffee?
Rich Davis
Now, you know, you could say, oh, maybe you could go in the yard, pick a couple cherry tomatoes off. Nope, no tomatoes, no eggplant.
Covino
You forgot no wheat. Ryan, barley. You forgot that. That's huge. You think you're doing something good like, yeah, I'll have the wheat toast. No wheat. No rhino barley. No beans, lentils, chickpeas, or soy products.
Podcast Narrator
Yeah, I have a problem there.
Rich Davis
No potatoes.
Covino
Yeah, don't skip around, because now you're skipping a lot.
Rich Davis
Hold on to your potatoes.
Podcast Narrator
Dr. Jones, nutritionist spot over here. Tell us why possibly nightshades might be bad for your body.
Danny G
It could cause inflammation.
Podcast Narrator
Eggplant, tomato. Yeah, it's an inflammation issue, which didn't stop people living in, like, Mediterranean areas in the Middle east from eating those foods for thousands of years.
Host 1
No oils, no canola, soybean, or refined vegetable oil.
Covino
No trans fats. No.
Rich Davis
Oh, well, hold on. Now again. Portugal.
Podcast Narrator
Well, Maha make America healthy again. Says, don't eat those seed oils.
Covino
Seed oils you gotta stay away from. This is another part of the Tom Brady diet. This is tough. No coffee or caffeinated treat.
Rich Davis
That's horrible.
Covino
No out. No energy drinks.
Danny G
Well, because they.
Covino
I'm surprised why not black coffee?
Danny G
It diminishes your. Like. Then you have spikes in your energy, so you just have to keep a steady level of energy.
Rich Davis
No wonder, no wonder why Giselle divorced him. He seems like no fun to hang with.
Covino
No packaged fruits, juices, and certain fruits. No table salt. No msg. What does the Garden have to do with this?
Danny G
Tommy, take me to dinner.
Covino
No msg, no Knicks games.
Rich Davis
We will have. We will have lettuce leaves.
Podcast Narrator
No Chinese restaurants.
Host 1
Restaurants.
Covino
And by the way, that is again what Caleb Williams began.
Host 1
What if you have Panda Express while you're at Madison Square Garden?
Covino
No, none of that. But honestly, here's the better question. Tell me what I can eat, because to me, that's everything that you would go for. That's Tom Brady's TB12 diet. What you can no longer eat. And Caleb Williams has been doing that since last year. Dude, what is left?
Rich Davis
I admire seafood. I admire.
Covino
Is that it?
Podcast Narrator
Avocado, chicken.
Rich Davis
I was gonna say I admire Tom, but it seems like. Listen, anytime any of us in this room has tried to. Has tried to trim up, we know the usual suspects. Chicken, salmon, fresh vegetables, fresh berries.
Covino
You know, sugars and alcohol.
Rich Davis
Right?
Covino
Those are the. We even said that our lunch with our bosses. Those are the three killers right there. If you're trying to stay fit, sugars, carbs, and alcohol, stay away from all of that. Yeah, but this is next level discipline. And honestly, why Tom Brady is who he is. So if you want to follow the blueprint, it's right there. And I give Caleb Williams all the props in the world for saying, yeah, there is a blueprint to greatness. This is what Tom Brady does. I'm going to try it out.
Rich Davis
Speaking of props, what's the Carrot Top workout? You see the guy lately?
Covino
He's ripped. He's like 170 years old.
Rich Davis
Steroids and hammers.
Host 1
Yeah.
Rich Davis
Question of this list of Tom Brady's that Caleb Williams is now on. And now Caleb Williams is going to win seven Super Bowls. Writings on the wall.
Covino
Hey, at least he's trying doing his body right. And that was part of Tom Brady's success, his longevity, if you ask me.
Rich Davis
What's the hardest here on the list? I think realistically, as grown men, with a little discipline, you can avoid a lot of these things. But I think the toughest. The toughest things here to avoid.
Covino
Cakes, pastries and candies for you.
Host 1
Prepackaged snacks.
Rich Davis
Nah, I was going to say coffee. For sure. Coffee or tea or any type of. I would say coffee.
Covino
Really? I thought you were Gonna see the bread, pasta.
Rich Davis
No, I could avoid that if I wanted to. I think coffee. Coffee. Dairy. And, like, the deli meats or bacon, like, processed meats. Like, jerky's not even good for you. They say, like. I just read an article about, like, heart disease. Like, jerky. I used to think, like, a beef jerky was a good alternative.
Danny G
Sodium.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Host 1
So about no beans. We live in Southern California. We think we're eating kind of healthy when we go to El Pollo Loco.
Podcast Narrator
I have a problem with that. The lentils, beans, legumes thing, like, I would think that that's. I think a lot of nutritionists would say that that is healthy for you, but something with, like, bloating.
Covino
This is anti Mexican, if you ask me. Yeah. No beans.
Host 1
Racist.
Covino
No way, Jose.
Host 1
I love beans.
Covino
This is a racist diet.
Podcast Narrator
I still think beans are good for you.
Covino
Just kidding. Yeah. No, man, that's really, really tough. So that's the TB12 diet.
Rich Davis
What would be the toughest for you guys? For me, I think it's honestly the dairy. The dairy category. Like, the bacon and sausage category and coffee. Those, like. I'm really just thinking, like, a nice breakfast on the weekend.
Covino
Don't you enjoy even table soil? So if he's limited to. And veggies and fish and. What else do you say, Sam, that we.
Podcast Narrator
Well, I don't think you can't have.
Covino
Salt at all eventually.
Danny G
And I had to do this one when I had my heart issues. You eventually deconditioned your palate to salt. So, like, if anybody ever eats my food, it's always under salted.
Covino
Yeah.
Danny G
And I have to. You have to cook for other people.
Covino
That's a bland living right there.
Podcast Narrator
Egg was not on the list because egg is a part of, like, you know, egg, avocado, chicken. Those are, like.
Rich Davis
I could get by on a lot of those. Those are some of my favorite things.
Podcast Narrator
High in protein, low in fat.
Rich Davis
I. You'll really have a craving for coffee or ice cream or some type of cheese. Like dairy.
Covino
Yeah. Balance. Daniel Son. Right. It's all about balance.
Rich Davis
If you could do this a little bit, you're.
Covino
But yeah. Is it really worth. Is your happiness more important than being fit like Tom Brady? No, that's really what it comes down to is like, are you really enjoying yourself? If you're this committed, you're not on the. You're not Caleb Williams.
Podcast Narrator
I think for a lot of people, if you just cut out, like, beer, you cut out soda, you're gonna see results.
Covino
No doubt.
Rich Davis
After three weeks, 100%. Right. All right, well, listen, here's what we got coming up on the show. A really fun fact about the NBA Eastern and Western Conference finals, reasons to root, and something to keep an eye on. We'll get to that next and last one standing. Yeah.

Covino
Okay, that was a real pitch.
Podcast Narrator
Pitchers.
Covino
That was great.
Rich Davis
That was a good one.
Host 1
All right, Byer and Caleb on the board. As we go to the third category. Always in the mix. You have five seconds to name an NBA team. Who's top 17 in most playoff wins of all time. NBA. Most playoff wins of all time. Kavino, you're going to be up first as soon as the clock goes next.

Host 1
Beyer is the last one standing. That's his second win of the game. He's the winner.
Danny G
Pistons are on.
Host 1
That is Byer's 29th win.
Danny G
Ms. The 76ers were three. Thunder, Rockets, Pacers, Jazz, Louise.
Host 1
Caleb did a great job. Caleb, you want to mail that Swiggy to Springfield?
Dan Buyer
I want to send it because he gave me a shout out when I picked Missouri. So he already had it.
Rich Davis
Caleb. He held it out.
Covino
Yeah. That was great, man. You did a great job.
Host 1
All right, Caleb. We're gonna send a nice Swiggy to Springfield, Missouri for you there.
Covino
Hang on now. If you enjoyed our game today, you'll enjoy our game tomorrow. Shaq. Diesel. Trivia. Whack. Diesel broke Shaq stops by and he asks questions, some NBA questions. Your chance to win another Swiggy here on the show. Our way of bribing you and saying thanks. And again, if you're new to Covino and Rich, I want to remind you that we're having a big party in Vegas and this is your invite. June 20th, 21st and 22nd in Vegas. So book your flight tickets. Details coming soon. This week. It's June 20, a month from tomorrow. So we hope to see you out there in Vegas.
Rich Davis
Now, two things. Add a little, not so much a fun fact, but a little, little NBA rooting interest. This is the first time that I can remember where all four teams in the Eastern or Western Conference finals are teams that have never won the NBA title or it's been at least 50 years. So we're getting a new winner. There's no Lakers, Celtics, no Warriors, no, you know, no usual suspects in the mix. So you're going to get okc, finally getting the job done after promising years in the 2010s where they thought they might have got there. You know, our boss Scott, and all the people up in Minnesota that are big T Wolves fans that thought maybe Kevin Garnett at one point would have brought him there. Never did. So the west alone, you're going to get someone playing for their first one ever. On the other side of things, you got the Pacers and the Knicks, two teams that played second fiddle to Michael Jordan for a decade of their lives. Two teams that if Michael Jordan was never birthed, would probably have been going back and forth in the Eastern Conference for a better half of a decade.
Host 1
So what happened to him?
Rich Davis
Birthed. Oh, he was birthed.
Covino
They're so starving for the championship.
Podcast Narrator
For sure.
Rich Davis
New York celebrated that victory over the Celtics like it was game seven of the NBA Finals. So New York, they looked like Eagles fans.
Covino
And by the way, the Knicks, can I just say, they're still so committed that Jalen Brunson refuses to go anywhere near Fat Joe.
Host 1
That was a funny video.
Covino
Hilarious. So if you guys remember Fat Joe, remember he opened up the Yankees game in the Bronx. That game they lost in the Bronx. He was there at the Knicks. I think he's bad luck. Jalen Brunson left him hanging.
Host 1
I pulled him so bad.
Covino
It was so.
Rich Davis
I mean, Fat Joe hung out with Kamala Harris and the Yankees in, in the same week and a half, and they both lost. I mean, if I'm Jalen Brunson, I'd be like, get away.
Covino
And it's hard to Miss Fat Joe. So it's not like he didn't see him.
Host 1
By the way, Rich, about this Knicks Pacer series. Reggie Miller is going to call every single game in the series, and this is the last ever series for the NBA on tnt.
Rich Davis
Oh, wow.
Covino
So people asked him about it, like, does he get nervous when he's there? And he's like, nervous? You mean the place where I owned everybody? Hell no. He's like, no, I get pumped about it.
Rich Davis
You got to love that, man.
Covino
That's cool. He's cool. I mean, and he did. He always, he always thrived at the Garden and prospered against the Knicks. So props to him in a great career. But you're right, Rich. Pacers, Knicks, there's some old school rivalry there. It's going to be fun to see. And it all begins tomorrow. Minnesota, Oklahoma City.
Rich Davis
On the other side of things, you have a new school rivalry. Two young studs and SGA and Anthony Edwards saying that, yo, we're the dudes now. Like, hey, hey, old, old heads. The LeBron's and stephs of the world, maybe they're saying, your time has come and gone, old man. The young guys are running the west.
Podcast Narrator
Seventh year in a row where there will be a different champion, which has never happened before.
Rich Davis
Yeah, that's pretty. You know, when we were kids, it was very easy to remember who won the NBA championship.
Covino
So this is the parody.
Rich Davis
Remember at one point it was like, Lakers, Lakers, Pistons, pinces, Bulls, Bulls, Bowls. You know, there was a pattern. Not anymore. Have a great night. Enjoy your Monday until tomorrow. Areva Dare she baby.
Covino
See you in the promised land.
Rich Davis
Goodbye.
