I've already seen the clips up if you want to go to the fox Sports Radio YouTube page. Our social media at Covino and Rich. Lots of cool clips from earlier today. We caught up with PUK and the kua, my dude, Fred Warner, Vince Wilfork. So a lot of a lot of fun so far today at Radio Roll.
Nate Thompson
And yesterday Paige Spiranak and Curt Schilling. If you missed anything, just search Covino and Rich wherever you stream your podcast, follow, rate and review and again follow our New Orleans adventures at covinoenrich and at Fox Sports Radio. Now later today again, you never know who's going to stop by. I heard that Malcolm Butler of the Patriots, super bowl champion, two time super bowl champion.
Covino
Yeah, buddy.
Nate Thompson
Stopping by to say what's up. And of course it's Wednesday. So going to turn your hump day into a hump night if we have time. Some midweek major the biggest stories in the world of sports and pop culture. But a few rando observations out here as the buzz gets thicker at Radio Row.
Covino
As we see athletes, celebrities and people just walk on by. It's cool to bump into familiar faces. I just saw presidential candidate and I say that because it's a true story. Stephen A. Smith walked by with an entourage like he was already running for president. That's a story today that Stephen A.
Nate Thompson
And God bless this country.
Rich Davis
Yeah, the only entourage I've seen just as big if not a little bigger today was Shannon Sharpe when he walked.
Nate Thompson
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I saw him walking by too. So yeah, everybody who's anybody's here. And if you can't make it into the room where it happens. We bring the fun to you. That's why we're here.
Covino
No doubt.
Nate Thompson
Some good parties last night. We're going to go to Collins party tonight. We'll report back manana, let you know how that is. But some other random observations. I got to start off with this, stars out here in New Orleans, there is a lot of security, right? We appreciate that and props to people keeping us safe. But Rich is fixated. He said it about 5, 15, 16 times already. What do you think of the mountie hats?
Covino
Observation number one.
Nate Thompson
My question is really leading with this. I just got to ask. Do you. Do you lose respect or does it command respect?
Covino
I don't know. Because the New Orleans Police Department doing their thing. Thank you. Not mocking, just saying. They got that Bullwinkle mouthy hat. Like it's almost cartoonish. And I don't know if it garners more respect or if it's funny.
Nate Thompson
I think you're talking Dudley do, right?
Covino
Yeah.
Nate Thompson
That's what you're getting.
Covino
Something like that. Yeah.
Nate Thompson
They got on the full on uniform and it's kind of intimidating. But they all walk around with their hats, man. It's a presence. I'm leaning towards commands respect. Rich is like, I lose respect. It looks goofy.
Covino
No, no.
Nate Thompson
So again, just throwing it out there, even though we're still giving props because we do appreciate it because they're the first people we're going to if there's a problem. Let's be fair.
Covino
Yo, let it be known, right, friend? I am a huge supporter of the police.
Nate Thompson
Yes.
Rich Davis
What are you gonna do? Say that you don't support the police?
Covino
A lot of people do, Danny. A lot of people do.
Nate Thompson
A lot of you.
Covino
I respect the police more than anyone. They're here to help us. I'm just saying the.
Rich Davis
I'd like you to know I'm against racism.
Covino
No, the uniform, you know, in every city, it varies. I feel like nypd, lapd, different uniforms, different cars. You know, the police are different everywhere. In New Orleans, it is a like a navy blue Dudley do right outfit.
Nate Thompson
I'm like riding around on horses and everything. Honestly, it's wild. So that's observation number one. Observation number two is what? What a weenie Rich is. He just had a roast beef sandwich again, in between the show. Yeah, he had a Po boy because we're here in Nolens. So in between Colin's show and this show that just started, he had a roast beef Po boy and he keeps complaining, my belly hurts. My tummy aches.
Covino
I didn't say my belly hurts.
Rich Davis
You down with the sickness?
Nate Thompson
Yeah.
Rich Davis
Clarissa Thompson was supposed to be on the show today. There's some little virus or bug going around New Orleans right now. And you heard at the top of the hour, ILO say that Jalen Carter of the Eagles missed his media availability today with illness.
Nate Thompson
It's concerning because we have alerts on our phone and there's been alerts, you know, shooting out from everybody that there's something going on around here where people are getting sick. So the other day that's not happening to you, Rich, because you know, you're breathing on us.
Covino
I just had a big ass PO boy, too much sauce. I mean, think about it. The other day, Colin mid segment was like, yeah, stars, stars.
Nate Thompson
Luca.
Covino
You know what, guys, I gotta go. And so there is a little something going around.
Nate Thompson
And by the way, that's not why we filled in for him today. He was making his way here to New Orleans, so that's why we did double duty today. But speaking of the food and his belly ache, I gotta tell you what he did last night.
Covino
Oh, no. I have an observation about the restaurant we had lunch at.
Nate Thompson
Go ahead.
Covino
Again, this not trying to be controversial. We went to a really nice little bar pub, got a PO boy, got a couple apps just to kill the time in between shows. I'm talking to our buddy from the odd couple, Kelvin. And we both looked down. And Covino had given me a signal look down before. I didn't know what he was talking about. The tiles in this bar had a swastika pattern.
Nate Thompson
And I'm like, not just one, it was just full on throughout the bar, whole tile floor, it was the tile.
Covino
And everyone's like, what is going on?
Nate Thompson
Yeah.
Rich Davis
Like I said, I'm against racism.
Nate Thompson
Yeah, exactly.
Covino
Thank you. Thank you, Daddy. Immediately, one of the workers there go look at the sign. And there's a big sign that says, this place was built in 1902, prior to World War II, prior to Nazis. And it was a sign of peace. And I'm thinking, still change your tiles.
Rich Davis
They took that symbol and inverted it.
Nate Thompson
Exactly, exactly. Yeah. So I mean historic in a sense. It's an old floor. They explained, trained it, but it's hard to not notice.
Covino
Don't you think it starts to change?
Nate Thompson
Yeah, sort of changed over time. Yeah.
Rich Davis
Don't you think the employees must be really sick of explaining it?
Nate Thompson
I know every single. That's why there's a big giant plaque. So again, some random observations and before we get into other stuff, LeBron and John Madden and midweek major and some football observations.
Covino
You got your notes, Rich.
Rich Davis
Elon Musk owns that restaurant.
Covino
Stop it.
Nate Thompson
Last night we all went out. Fox Sports Radio, you know, some of the big wigs. It's always fun to hobnob and booze and schmooze with important people and, you know, some other shows were there. Rich thought it was the right time to go splitsies, as he called it. Halfsies havesies with our boss. So Rich and our boss. I mean, solid movement, lame move, or boss move, because it is our boss.
Rich Davis
But he's employing it, though. It was like lady and the Tramp style.
Nate Thompson
Well, yeah, because then they interlocked arms and fed each other. Not even joking.
Covino
No joking. I think that was joking.
Rich Davis
That part was joking.
Nate Thompson
That part was joking. But they actually did it is my point. Like, they shared food and went halves. So the question is, before we dive into the other stuff, let's have some fun. Covino and Rich, let's get involved. 87799 on Fox. Is it okay to share meals with your bro or your buddy? Or is that something you just do is, you know, with your wife or girlfriend?
Rich Davis
Like split plates?
Nate Thompson
Yeah. You're split.
Covino
Yeah. Well, here's the thing. I think anyone that says Rich, it.
Nate Thompson
Caused a lot of chit chat and.
Covino
A lot of laughter.
Nate Thompson
Yeah.
Covino
But I think anyone that has a problem with this is out of their damn mind. And I'll tell you what, then why did everybody react? There have been times where why did.
Rich Davis
Head honcho Don Martin call you soft?
Nate Thompson
Yeah. Yeah. Why did everybody lose respect for you all of a sudden?
Covino
Thanks, guys. No, listen, you could say, well, it's your wife. It's different. But recently I'm at a diner with my wife and I saw on the menu they had a Reuben. And they had, I believe it was a pulled pork, grilled cheese.
Nate Thompson
I think it was a Reuben. Sierra just had a little mustache.
Covino
And I was like. I was like, babe, you want to want to do halfsies? Want to split? And my wife gets annoyed that I want to do this all the time. But to me, I'm the guy that wants to get a little taste of everything. So we're at the restaurant last night. I happen to be sitting there of the boss. We have a big table, really fun time, great crew. Of course, you think it's coincidence Rich.
Nate Thompson
Was sitting next to the boss or he was kissing ass. Oh, Jesus. Kissing ass. That's what he was doing. Rich was kissing ass.
Covino
That's what your dad would say. And Our boss, Scott, I saw him eyeing up the scallops or the filet.
Nate Thompson
Yeah, sometimes it's hard to make a choice, but a real man makes a choice and sticks with it. No, hey, sometimes it doesn't work, and sometimes it does.
Covino
Or I saw that we were both deciding between two things, like, hey, dude, you going with the scallops or you going with the. The steak? And I'll. I'll give Scott credit. He. He let off with. By the way, how do you like your steak?
Nate Thompson
He led you there. Yeah.
Covino
And I go, medium rare.
Nate Thompson
Oh, how about you? He goes.
Covino
He goes, so do I. And then it was the.
Nate Thompson
I guess that makes us split pals at that point.
Covino
It's like, all right, do you. You want to get the steak and the scallops and we'll just split them? I see no problem. The fact that you boneheads even address this, this is brilliance. And then Covino had this huge ass pork chop, and I'm like, yo, let me get a little taste. I got to try three entrees.
Nate Thompson
A little simple is here and there. Okay. I get it right. You know, again, you're on the company dime. And as Rob Parker says, when the company pays, you eat fillets.
Rich Davis
Oh, he's a whole nother story.
Nate Thompson
But sharing with another man, splitting the plate. Your thoughts at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio.
Covino
Yo, I was saying back in the studio, we've hung with I. With Sam. We've. We've been to my house. I was saying we've been out for meals. Are you cool splitting entrees with one of your buds? I. I guess that was a very hesitant idea, I think. Yeah.
Nate Thompson
Because sometimes you, as a guy, you see what you like, and I don't even want to share it, let alone split it. Like, get your own meal.
Covino
Yeah.
Spot
By the way, if someone wants a little taste.
Covino
Little taste, then they can have a little taste, but I prefer to keep.
Bobby Bones
My own entree because, you know, I'm kind of a fatty, so I want.
Spot
To eat all the food on my plate.
Nate Thompson
Same. I'm with Sam.
Rich Davis
I sent you and Ryan. Little picture there, Sam. You see that?
Covino
Now, I think I saw this on your socials, Danny.
Nate Thompson
I can't say I've never done it, you know, but it's not something that I.
Covino
That is something.
Nate Thompson
Rich seems to be like, an endorser of this tactic.
Covino
Well, I'll tell you what. Not everyone's down for it. And again, yeah.
Rich Davis
Arnie Spaniard just texted into the show what a suck up Rich is. I Don't even share any of my food with my wife.
Nate Thompson
That's what I'm saying. Sharing with the boss. Kissing ass.
Covino
Wow.
Nate Thompson
That's what he's doing. What are you. By the way?
Covino
You know. Thank you, Artie. Love that guy, by the way.
Nate Thompson
That's great.
Covino
I will say this. I recently did this with our video guy, Spot, and he's like, never again. We were at the Graduate Hotel in Auburn.
Nate Thompson
Yeah.
Covino
And I'll be honest. I'll take accountability. I'm always the guy that wants to do this. We went to some great place for dinner at the Graduate, and there was a Southern fried chicken sandwich and a Smash burger. And I was like, oh, damn it. I'm just indecisive. Dude, you're amazed I'm married. I picked one woman. To me, I'm like, blonde, white, black. I'll take it. Variety is the spice of life. So when you put.
Nate Thompson
Oh, that's a good one. Did you come up with that?
Covino
I did, actually. I made that up. When you put a fried chicken sandwich on one side of me and a Smash burger on the other side. I said, spot, let's do it.
Malcolm Butler
Come on.
Covino
Splitskis. Split a roo. Sharesies. Spots. Like, okay, fine. He did not like the chicken. And he's like, yeah, you're an ass. I hate you now. Like, he was so mad because you.
Nate Thompson
Steered him in the wrong direction. We'll let you decide. It's an old school. It's super bowl week, so let's do an old school NFL. Fox Sports Radio Nation. You make the call. Yeah, listen, there's no.
Covino
There's a ton of NFL and NBA and stuff to get to, but why not start with a fun, light question?
Nate Thompson
I want people to understand, though, it's not all about football in the game. There's a lot of fun to be had at these events in the week leading up to Super Bowl. It's a lot of people.
Rich Davis
See all the families outside of the convention center going into the NFL experience.
Covino
Loves to point out how come our dads never took us to places like this.
Nate Thompson
You mean the places our dads never took us? Yeah, I mean, it's fun for the family. It's fun for the co workers. We're hanging out with our colleagues. We're going out for dinners. You know, we're here at Radio Row. It's kind of a reunion. You're seeing old colleagues that you worked with. So there's a lot more story to tell than, you know. Who's more motivated, the Eagles or the Chiefs?
Rich Davis
The Eagles.
Covino
Trust me. Two hours. We got a lot of NFL. We got some NFL stars stopping by. Stars. But I will say this. Dare I sound corny and say this is great team building.
Nate Thompson
It is not.
Covino
Not the split of the dinner. I'm saying the fact that, you know, I was chopping it up with Doug Gottlieb's here. We just saw Kelvin at the restaurant we were at. You know, tonight we're gonna be going to party. So it really is an opportunity to. To really spend some time with the people on your team, essentially.
Nate Thompson
Exactly. And it's not just us. It's everybody. I mean, the superstars are out, the Pro Bowlers are here, and when I say Pro Bowlers, I mean Pete Weber and. Yeah, exactly.
Rich Davis
Covino. Do you hear a lot of exaggerating? Because I overheard Rich tell Gottlieb, I watch all your video clips.
Nate Thompson
Yeah, he's. He's a. He's a sucker.
Covino
Yeah, I said one of them.
Rich Davis
I watch all of them now.
Nate Thompson
Start thinking about this, too, because aside from football, it's unbelievable that we're even talking NBA right now, but there's so many moves to be made in the next 24 hours or so. Right. So I got to ask you about LeBron James. Seems to be handling the news pretty good. Had a nice game yesterday. Bronny hit a three pointer.
Covino
As he did point out, though, when he went to the bench, AD wasn't there. I know, and he's used to AD.
Nate Thompson
Being in that spot, but he saw Luka smile and he felt right at home again. LeBron more motivated to stick around or call it quits knowing that his replacement is there. Think about that. Maybe not necessarily just LeBron like you. Let's say, you know, your replacement's there. Do you want to hang around and go for that ride with the new guy and teach him the ropes and show him around? Or do you.
Covino
It's not like LeBron's not going to be part of this. No, no.
Nate Thompson
Yeah. But you don't know how much longer he intended on playing. There's a theory of Luka may have prolonged his career and gave him second life because it takes a lot of weight off of him. Or do you think LeBron says, yeah, we're going to go for it. He's a true professional. We know that. You know, I want to win with this guy, but it's his team moving forward, and I'm done after that. But you know What?
Covino
Hold your LeBron and Luka thoughts, because there's other Luka thoughts and they have to do with when you're called, like, out of shape or chubby. Is that a motivator in itself?
Nate Thompson
Absolutely.
Covino
The simple fact.
Nate Thompson
Even he said so.
Covino
The simple fact that the narrative that Luka is 25 years old and a little thick with a bunch of Cs.
Nate Thompson
T H, I, I, I, C, C, C, C. So we'll start thinking about that.
Covino
Get to that some more. NFL, of course, a little preview. Eagles, Chiefs. But we are joined next by super bowl champion Malcolm Butler. So hang tight. We got more. Covino Rich next right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Rich Davis
FOX Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows@foxsportsradio.com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live.
Bobby Bones
Hey, it's Bobby Bones. Join me and former NFL quarterback Matt Castle every Wednesday for our new podcast, Lots to say with Bobby Bo. Matt Castle. Between us, we have over 17,500 passing yards, multiple New York Times bestsellers, and one mirrorball trophy from Dancing with a Star. So where else are you going to find a show with that much athleticism and football insight? Based in Nashville, we're more than just your basic NFL show. We talk sports, but we talk pop culture and music and a little bit of everything because we got lots to say. I texted you and you texted me back. Now, I don't know if you have the update, but like all the little thumbs up and heart and stuff, like it's all colored. They changed it and the heart's a little pink. It felt like I told you I loved you. I'm gonna be honest, it was a little pink.
Covino
There was something sentimental when you, when you send it, it was like, do I send the heart?
Rich Davis
Now?
Bobby Bones
I don't like the color edition.
Covino
It's extremely pink.
Bobby Bones
Listen to Lots to say with Bobby Bones and Matt Castle on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Nate Thompson
Welcome back to the show Covino and Rich Radio. From Super Bow, Steve Cavino. That is Rich Davis. And we have a guest. Let's welcome two time super bowl champion with the New England Patriots, Malcolm Butler, everybody.
Covino
You doing?
Malcolm Butler
Yeah, I'm doing good, man. How y'all doing?
Covino
Having a hell of a day, man. I mean, I, I think of you and, you know, you got to think immediately one of the biggest plays in super bowl history. So what the hell, let's start there.
Malcolm Butler
Oh, my man. Big time player. Make big time plays, baby. Hey, hey. It only counts when it counts.
Nate Thompson
You know, I'll ask you this. How did your life change after that catch? Because you were the hero after that win. How did life change immediately after?
Malcolm Butler
I'll just say Mr. Kraft said, what's your name?
Covino
Right.
Nate Thompson
All of a sudden you're real important. Right.
Covino
By the way, has Russell Wilson ever, you know, approach you like, yo, I sort of hate you, my man, or no?
Malcolm Butler
Nah. Well, I met him. I don't know. We was at the correspondence dinner, I think, in 2015. I was talking to his grandmother. I don't know where she from, but she is so sweet. And I think we were sitting there talking for like six or seven minutes. He said, come on, Grandma, we gotta go.
Nate Thompson
Isn't it odd that one of your greatest moments is one of his greatest nightmares? Right? Like, he probably still thinks about that every night the same way you do.
Justin Pennik
Just opposite.
Malcolm Butler
Yeah, I'm glad I got the better end of the show. Yeah.
Nate Thompson
Hell, yeah.
Covino
By the way, part of two of the more exciting Super Bowls in the last ever, maybe. You know that ending versus the Seahawks when you win and then against the Falcons, right?
Malcolm Butler
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Covino
28 to 3. The anniversary was just the other day.
Malcolm Butler
Hey, we came back. Like, I keep coming back for that church of chicken.
Nate Thompson
We're going to talk about that because I can smell it. Malcolm Butler here with Covino and Rich. Now, that play didn't happen by accident. You were prepared for it. So what was your preparation? You know, how did you prepare for plays like that? And quarterbacks back in the day?
Malcolm Butler
Well, back in the day, like, you just either an athlete, and we always just wanted picks and stuff like that. But once I got to college, I started to learn the technique, and especially when I got to the New England Patriots playing for. Under Bill Belichick, I started learning the technique, the game started slowing down more. I didn't play as much, but I always was urgency reserve player. We had Brandon Brown, Darrell Reavis, Logan Ryan. Like, I deserve to sit, but I didn't think I deserved to sit. But, like, you got to earn your stripes, right? And I think I earned my stripes enough to be able to get in the most important game in the most important moments, too.
Nate Thompson
Yeah.
Malcolm Butler
Yes, sir.
Covino
Yeah. Malcolm, let me ask you. When you see Coach Belichick now going to college, do you think these young kids will respond to his style?
Malcolm Butler
Yes. Yes. Like, of course they gonna.
Covino
I mean, he appeals to the. He has a younger girlfriend.
Nate Thompson
Maybe.
Covino
Maybe that demo. Maybe that demo likes Coach Belichick.
Malcolm Butler
Damn. She might be on campus. Yeah, she might be social studies or something. Let me stop Playing. But, yeah, like, I know the game, like, Nick Saban got out to, because, like, the nil deals and stuff like that, like, he can't compete no more. But, like, it's an even playing field now. But I think players will most definitely go play for Bill Belichick. And, like, Bill Belichick never been a social media guy or a guy about money. You here to do your job and help the team win. And who don't want to play for one of the best coaches in the NFL speaking up, and then he find Malcolm Butler. Like, he gonna go find him another Malcolm Butler, another Tom Brady, another Julian Elderman.
Covino
Yep.
Nate Thompson
You played for the Pats 2014-2017, then again in 2022. What was it like going back at the end of your career? Because KD said today he has no interest in going back to the Golden State Warriors. Was it just as fun the second time around? Do you take pride in starting and ending your career with the Pats? How was it?
Malcolm Butler
Man, I. I just felt like it was different. I kind of felt like Belichick wasn't as hard as he used to be, really.
Nate Thompson
So it was different.
Malcolm Butler
And then I got older also.
Covino
Yeah.
Malcolm Butler
And then the players got younger, so maybe I. I don't know what I was seeing, but, like, I don't. I. It's just different, man. Like, we had our runs, but I don't think it wasn't. It's just like, it's not the same now. It wasn't the same then.
Nate Thompson
Right.
Covino
I saw Vince Wilfork earlier. We had him on the show, and he was saying how when you. When you have Tom Brady on your team, you never feel like you're out of it. Was that a sense you had even, you know, even though you're on the other side of the ball, did you have a respect for Brady? And when you see documentaries, like, man, in the arena, is it cool to look back at all those moments you guys had?
Malcolm Butler
Yeah. Yeah, 100%. When I first seen, like, I did, I never thought in my life I'd play for the New England Patriots.
Covino
Yeah.
Malcolm Butler
I said, damn, my bad. I said, dang, it's cold. Like. Like, just like. Like, just playing a game. And then I'm like, dang, it's cold. Then I end up in a locker room, and I see Tom Brady with this big Trapper Keeper. I'm talking about. I don't know if he was a teacher or what, but he is a teacher. Teacher of the game.
Covino
Yeah.
Malcolm Butler
But I'll tell you about Super Bowl 52. He said, we gonna come back and kick you.
Nate Thompson
Yeah.
Malcolm Butler
I said, man, what else? Throwing that thing came back. And that made me a true believer. So Vince Wilfort is very right.
Nate Thompson
We're here with Malcolm Butler again, Super bowl champion. What's the last three years been like for you, man? Because you retired in 2022. So what's that been like for you?
Malcolm Butler
I coached high school football.
Nate Thompson
Nice.
Malcolm Butler
Yep. Went to the state championship the in 2024. And Jason Whitten stopped us this year from going.
Nate Thompson
No way.
Malcolm Butler
The brakes off of us.
Covino
And is that fun for you? Get joy passing down your knowledge to these kids.
Malcolm Butler
Oh, I love it, man. I love it. God blessed us to bless other people.
Covino
I love that. Hey, you know, Malcolm, when. When you're here and you see all these people, is it sort of like a reunion? You bump into old guys you would see across the. Across the field?
Malcolm Butler
Yeah, I just seen one guy. He said, yeah, I seen a bunch of guys. I just seen one guy. He said, man, I would have been in on him play if they ain't called Goal line, three corner. It's called three corners. Somebody got to get out of the game.
Nate Thompson
Malcolm Butler here with Covino and Rich. Again, your own only 34 years old. Right. So you were an older guy on the field, but you're a young man in life. You're getting your competitive flow as a coach. But is there a party that still wants to compete in other sports?
Malcolm Butler
Man, I thought about playing ball again, but, nah, I can't do it. Like, once you stop, you just can't crank the engine back up no more.
Nate Thompson
No. But you're still in shape.
Malcolm Butler
Oh, yeah. Yeah. You got to look good.
Nate Thompson
So you're keeping in shape. Yeah. You're styling today here on radio.
Covino
You're looking safe, man.
Malcolm Butler
Hey, 50 away. Keep the weight away.
Nate Thompson
That's it, man. And you're. Aside from the super bowl win and the rings and everything, other memories that are near and dear to you. Any other accolades and memories that stand out to you in the NFL?
Malcolm Butler
Man, just. I appreciate everything. I tell you that.
Nate Thompson
Is it the relationships, the friendships, the.
Malcolm Butler
Relationship, the friendships, the respect, the ups and downs. Like, you got to appreciate everything, everything while you here and, like, just. Just be thankful for everything. I'm thankful for being on Fox.
Nate Thompson
Hell, yeah, man.
Covino
How are these guys feeling a couple days before the Super Bowl? They got butterflies. You think? Some guys are just naturally calm. What were you like? Were you in your own head?
Nate Thompson
Starts to bring up a lot of memories for him.
Malcolm Butler
So, like, I Was like, I ain't gonna play.
Covino
I mean, the one you left.
Malcolm Butler
I was like, I ain't gonna play. But like, in the meeting room, my coach said, malcolm, be ready to play. You gonna put your little West Alabama school on the map. And I got in and did my thing. But I wasn't scared. Yeah, I wasn't scared.
Nate Thompson
You were prepared.
Malcolm Butler
I was just ready.
Nate Thompson
Nice.
Covino
Ready.
Nate Thompson
I love it.
Covino
And you're here, by the way. Church's Texas chicken. I could.
Nate Thompson
Yeah.
Covino
Thank you. The whole time.
Malcolm Butler
Oh, yeah.
Covino
What are you guys doing this week? Super bowl week.
Malcolm Butler
Hey, man, look, we having a block party Thursday. No, Saturday on South Clayman Street. 1600. Look, kids eat for free.
Covino
Nice.
Malcolm Butler
You're gonna see you can. You gonna get some autograph jerseys, pictures from me.
Nate Thompson
Nice.
Malcolm Butler
And then somebody got a chance to win chicken for the whole year.
Nate Thompson
Get out of here.
Malcolm Butler
Hey, hey.
Nate Thompson
I love it.
Malcolm Butler
Hey, so pull up like that. Fresh chicken.
Nate Thompson
Nice. Church's Texas chicken. It's a pleasure to meet you. Thanks for being on the show. Round of applause. Thank you, two time super bowl champ, Malcolm Butler. Thank you, my friend Rich. Show Fox Sports Radio.

Covino

Bobby Bones

Covino

It's extremely pink.

Rich Davis
Covino and Rich gets you over the Middle of the week with midweek Major.
Covino
Oh, I love that.
Rich Davis
We throw sports and pop culture headlines at the fellas. And it's like the kids say, that's so mid.
Nate Thompson
We definitely major.
Rich Davis
CNR scoring midweek major. About to give Spotty a full eight minutes here.
Nate Thompson
You're lying.
Rich Davis
You're lying, but you hear the horns. You know you have made it to the middle of the week. All right, before we hand things over to the number one and only host of this segment, I'm going to flip this casino chip that your friend Paige left behind yesterday. All right, Covino, heads or tails?
Nate Thompson
Oh, you mean the Wayne. The one she slipped into my back pocket? Yeah, that one. Let's see it. Yeah. I call tails.
Rich Davis
Tails. It. Oh, and it is tails. That means Covino's gonna get the first take. And now, ladies and gentlemen, the most famous person besides Judy Bloom from Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Spotty boy.
Nate Thompson
My boy from Nolan.
Spot
Who went first? Who's going first?
Nate Thompson
I'm going first. Covino.
Covino
Spotty Po Boy. How was your sandwich, by the way?
Spot
It was meaty.
Nate Thompson
Well, you know what?
Spot
Wasn't what I expected, but it was also meaty. Anyway, I guess we'll start with the biggest thing of the week, the biggest sports story of the week, and that is the super bowl, of course. Mahomes and Kelsey been fielding questions all week long. So aside from the Taylor Swift questions, they were asked about the attendance of our president Trump, and they're thrilled at the opportunity. Mahomes said, it's always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president, someone that is at the top of our country. Also added, it was cool to hear that the president was a fan of Mahomes and the Chiefs. Kelsey commented, saying, it's a great honor no matter who the president is. I'm excited because it's the biggest game of my life and having the president there, you know, it's the best country in the world, so it'd be pretty cool. I'm sure fans will be kind of divvying the minutes between who showing President Trump and Taylor Swift on tv. So that'll be fun. Midweek or major.
Nate Thompson
This is major.
Covino
Always cool to perform in front of a sitting president. Hopefully he stands up and cheers for me when we win.
Nate Thompson
Yeah.
Covino
But very excited that Trump's going to be there because my wife's a big.
Nate Thompson
Fan, and that's really it. I think it's cool because he's the president. Right? So I think it's awesome that he's going to Be there regardless of your political beliefs. Anything Trump related? Major. He's at the game. And I think it is sort of proof that Patrick sways with his wife in her political beliefs.
Covino
I just think, I think it's major, definitely major. Because it's just the right answer. There's a right answer here. And it's no matter who the president.
Nate Thompson
Is, not everybody feels that way.
Covino
I think it's crazy. You're a citizen of the United States. The president's there. It's an honor, even if you don't like the guy. China. It's China. China.
Nate Thompson
China.
Covino
I mean, you're playing in the Super Bowl.
Nate Thompson
China.
Covino
I think it's an honor. And I think my big takeaway doesn't have to do with President Trump. What Kelsey also said there goes against everything. This knucklehead next to me, Camino thinks China. Travis Kelce said this is the biggest game of his life. And you're talking about, oh, Jalen, hurts and revenge and Nick Sirianni.
Nate Thompson
No, no, no, no, no. I never downplayed the fact that the Chiefs care. You underplay and never mention ever that the Eagles are also playing for some something. See? So there you go twisting things around.
Rich Davis
That's coming up in the next segment.
Spot
Yeah, I don't have any stories.
Covino
He makes it seem like one story. He makes it seem like the Chiefs are Rocky and Rocky 3, where he's punching.
Nate Thompson
Hey, like, hey, doubles. Don't believe me? Believe what two time super bowl champion Vince Wilfort told me today. Yeah, Vince Wilfort. Believe him, Believe me. And if you didn't hear it, catch it on the podcast.
Spot
Over to the halftime show. Kendrick Lamar set to take the stage in this week's weekend's halftime show. But the song that thrust him into popularity this year might have slightly different lyrics or might not be there at all. So the Drake diss track Not Like Us is currently part of a defamation lawsuit by Drake against Kendrick Lamar for some accusations he makes in the song, specifically calling him a pedophile just to be newsworthy here. So today's the day the set list was submitted and now lawyers are going back and forth as to whether or not the censors will have a field day with the song, whether or not he's going to change the song, whether or not the song will be included. But he just won four Grammys for the song, so hopefully it makes it in. And if he does push it through without the approval, there's two sensors in place plus a five second delay. So I'm sure they'll have their backups midweek or major.
Nate Thompson
I guess it's kind of major because now we're all going to see how this plays out. Right. And what's Drake's take on this? Obviously he doesn't like it, but he's involved.
Spot
Well, there's a defamation lawsuit because, yeah, that's part of the distract.
Nate Thompson
So weak.
Covino
No, he went weak.
Nate Thompson
No, that's the weakest part about it. It's a major story because it's super bowl, but it's super weak because that's like Devin Haney getting knocked out and trying to sue Ryan Garcia. Yo, you lost the rap battle. You deal with it.
Covino
Calling someone a pedophile is a pretty serious accusation.
Nate Thompson
It is.
Covino
I see a rap battle, you know, I see Drake. Listen, if you're Kendrick Lamar, you have the song of the year, you want a Grammy for it. It's what everyone's gonna be looking forward to. There's 0.0 chance he doesn't perform that song.
Nate Thompson
It's a rap game. You just like a crybaby.
Covino
Change the one word pedophile just to make it just.
Rich Davis
But Drake took all these low blow shots also. So that's what happens in a rap battle. And it's an anthem now. It is a worldwide anthem. You can't change the words in an anthem.
Spot
It's a Grammy winning anthem.
Nate Thompson
Them. That stadium's gonna sing them anyway.
Rich Davis
That's what I'm saying.
Spot
If you w. If you did watch the Grammys, which we did, you saw that every major artist at the Grammys was singing along with that song. So that song is not going anywhere.
Covino
Drake was crying in the corner.
Nate Thompson
Right.
Spot
He wasn't even there.
Nate Thompson
Drake just lost in the worst way possible.
Spot
That's all right, over to another big story. We heard about Marcus Jordan's DUI arrest. Michael Jordan's son. Well, the police report has been released and some of the details of this are hilarious. Obviously, it's horrible that he had a dui. He was caught on his lambo, got stuck on train tracks.
Covino
Well, his explanation is whack too. Like, hey, I'm at a right hand turn. I thought it was a side street. Oh, it was train tracks.
Spot
I was following my gps. It led me into the train tracks.
Covino
It's like Michael Scott in the office when he. Right when he drove into a river or a lake or whatever.
Spot
Not only was he belligerent with officers, he was so upset with when he was detained with the music situation at the facility. Apparently, according to the police report, he was demanding that they play. And this, by the way, this happened this week. Demanding that they play holiday music. Most more specifically that he. They play Mariah Carey up in this b. So apparently all I Want for Christmas is a huge hit in February of 2025. It won't go away. So, yeah, a lot of just details coming out about this Marcus Jordan not looking great midweek or major.
Nate Thompson
I think it's major, unfortunately, because of his name, his father's name, who he was quick to throw out there. The moment he realized he was in trouble, he didn't hesitate to be like, yeah, I'm Michael Jordan's son. Yeah, the whole thing's embarrassing. So major because of his last name.
Covino
Mariah.
Spot
You say Mariah Carey specifically by name.
Covino
Interesting. I think it's major because the story's so weird.
Nate Thompson
To show you how. How off he was.
Covino
I. I don't. He said the word. By the way, if you watch a video, he says the word inebriated.
Nate Thompson
Inebriate.
Covino
You don't use a big word like that. But to request Mariah, I don't blame him. Listen, no, I love that no one should get free passes. You know, you break the law, you break the law. I get it. But I mean, I think if you're Michael Jordan's kid, you almost have to drop the name. Hoping that maybe it's like a super fan. Like, I. I really think that I get why he did it. Bad luck though.
Spot
Bad luck.
Covino
Horrible.
Spot
Look, all right, if you're a fan that's upset about the Luca trade and you're a MAV 60 MAV season ticket holder, you may be able to get your money back. I don't know if you heard about this. Fans who purchased ticket blocks prior to the season have reportedly been contacted by the Mavericks organization with an offer to refund their money in wake of the trade. Fans were posting, some posted that like they were offered 2k for as a refund. Other fans confirming they were given a similar option. Mavericks haven't released an official statement that they're refunding, but they did say that they value their season ticket holders relationships and that reps are available to take calls from members with any concern. So it sounds like they are doing a little bit of damage control since this was a surprise to everyone midweek or major.
Nate Thompson
This is the weakest story and we talked about it in depth on the Colin Cowherd show. We filled in earlier so catch it on the podcast. But for so many reasons, the Mavericks should be like, deal with it. We made a dope Move. Be excited about it. But it's really to appease and accommodate the Karens of the world and to shut them up, which makes it extra weak. So I. I think it's just a way of putting the fire out, as you explained, Spot, but super weak that they'd even have to explain this.
Covino
It's a triple B move. It's. It's baby B behavior.
Nate Thompson
Yeah. It's to accommodate sports crybabies.
Covino
It's a crybaby move. And I. I said to these guys earlier, I also hate the move because you're the Mavericks, and the Mavericks. It almost seems like you're saying, yeah, we got the short end of this trade. Like the Mavericks should be excited about getting Anthony Davis. He's all slouch. It's not like they give up Luca for a bag of potato chips. You know, they. They got Anthony Davis.
Nate Thompson
If you're a fan, how are you not excited about seeing that and how it pans out?
Covino
That's a hot ticket now. I know, Spot. We got to go. But you're a foodie. How did you not bring up the food Taylor Swift is going to have in the suite? Did you see this?
Spot
Oh, I didn't see it.
Covino
No. Lobster, quesadillas, wagyu tenderloin, colossal shrimp and. And alligator sauce, brisket. Like, they are breaking out all the top food for Taylor.
Spot
One of my stories was about all the super bowl sweets. And by the way, they're ranging from 500,000 for, like obstructed view up to the suite that I assume Taylor Swift has 3 million, which is the most sought after suite that holds 45 people.
Covino
Obstructive view. What is it? Jaden Smith's hat in front of you?
Spot
Yeah, I think so.
Nate Thompson
Thanks, buddy.
Spot
All right, thanks. Good one, Rich.
Nate Thompson
There was a guy. There was a guy. There's a guy in front of me.
Covino
Wearing a castle on his head.
Nate Thompson
I want my money back.
Covino
Grabby. Can't do Grammy jokes. Four days later.
Rich Davis
No. Too late.
Nate Thompson
Sorry.
Spot
All right, thanks, guys. Fun.
Covino
Thank you.
Nate Thompson
Good to be up here now. We still have lots to get to, Rich, if we have time. I do want to talk about J.D. martinez, but you know what?
Covino
