But if I said rank these movies, I wonder if you and like I Wasam or Danny would have a completely different order. Let's go back to 1982. ET phone home ET actually, he never says that. It's a fun fact. Mandela Effect.
Rich Davis
ET Home phone.
Danny G
Home phone. No one has a home phone anymore. So Home phone. We don't got one. ET I'll be right here.
Rich Davis
So, et, Such a great movie came.
Danny G
Out on this day in 1982. If you want to go to 1986. Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Covino
Ooh, Bueller Mueller talked about that last Thursday, June 11th was the date, right?
Rich Davis
That was his actual.
Covino
Yeah, was the release date of the movie.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Covino
86. 85. Yeah. Was the the date. Same day Rich played hooky.
Rich Davis
That's true. So we'll day off. Yeah.
Danny G
E.T. 1982. Ferris Bueller. 1986. 1999. On this day. Yeah, baby. Do I make you Randy? Is he talking about Randy Johnson or Randy Quaid?
Rich Davis
Randy Velardi.
Danny G
Oh, okay. Yeah.
Rich Davis
It's a misconception. Everyone thinks, yeah, baby. It's got to be the big unit. But no. Yankee utility infielder Randy Velardi, number 18.
Danny G
So, Austin Powers on this day. So I think I just named three movies of our childhood.
Rich Davis
Yeah. But so far the orders clear as.
Danny G
Ferris Bueller, Austin Powers, and the fourth movie that came out on this day. Let's go to the 2000s. Oh, for 21 years ago. Napoleon Dynamite. Vote for Pedro.
Covino
Make yourself a Casadilla.
Rich Davis
Very good movie. That was a turning point in humor, by the way. That's when I realized the humor's changing a lot because I didn't like the movie at first. Now I love it. Cult classic, uberly successful considering the budget it was made on. Napoleon Dynamite voted for Pedro, did all that stuff. The order is that.
Danny G
Was that the last time you voted or did you vote for Bo Bias on American Idol? I forget.
Rich Davis
Both. The order simple.
Danny G
I wonder if we have the same one or it's completely different.
Rich Davis
Where do you want me to start from? Best to worst.
Danny G
Let's start worst to first.
Rich Davis
Worst to first.
Danny G
What are you Spider Harrison? Are you Casey? Casey.
Rich Davis
Coming in at number four, coming number four, based out of Idaho. Idaho. Is Napoleon Dynamite.
Danny G
I agree. Number four is Napoleon.
Rich Davis
As much as I like it.
Danny G
Yeah.
Rich Davis
I say that respectfully. Coming in at number three, Austin Powers.
Danny G
No.
Rich Davis
Absolutely no way. You're out of your mind. Let me finish my list.
Danny G
Okay.
Rich Davis
Coming in at number two, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. And by far, not even close. E.T. number one. E.T. is a magical mammothian movie of the 80s, as great as Ferris Bueller is. And it's one of the classics. We discussed that recently. ET Is on another level of cinematic masterpiece that goes down in history. It's so heart wrenching. You can only watch it here and there. Ferris Bueller's on all the time.
Covino
ET Was also kind of creepy, though, for us when we were little kids.
Danny G
You know, our order is scared of it.
Covino
Our order is not terribly different because of the scientists. Remember in the big suits they had on those tunnels?
Rich Davis
It was a little scary. It was. But it was magical. There was a unit. Is there a universe? Was there a universal ride for Ferris Bueller? I see absolutely no. There was a ride for ET for years. And you're flying on your bicycle, riding across the moon with E.T. give me a break. Ferris Bueller is great, but it's a.
Danny G
Number two here, a child known as Drew Barrymore. Reese's Pieces getting their big break as Eminem's is like, nah, the aliens are scary. So many great stories behind the movie.
Rich Davis
I didn't have Ferris Bueller Bedsheets.
Danny G
My list is slightly different. Napoleon Dynamites, definitely number four.
Rich Davis
Yeah. They're all great, though. So let's be clear on that. They're all good for what they are. I think.
Danny G
Ferris Bueller, number three.
Rich Davis
Okay.
Danny G
You forget that Austin Powers, that was a big deal. Mike Myers, that's number two. But ET Home phone. Phone Home.
Rich Davis
ET Is. Is number one.
Danny G
Which makes me want to remind everyone I've sat down with my kids. My kids are 8 and 5.
Rich Davis
I'm surprised because I knew you were always a Mac and Me kind of guy.
Danny G
I love Mac and me, too. I would put that number one. I have sat down with my kids. We've watched Goonies together.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Danny G
And I'm trying to go through all the classics. Right.
Rich Davis
ET Is a touchy one because like Danny G said, it's gonna be a rollercoaster of they're scared. They're gonna cry at the end the first time. My sister Dawn. Yes. Sloth is a little scary.
Danny G
There's a little scariness of One Eyed Willie and all that.
Rich Davis
My sister dawn, when she was a little kid, wept. Wept when she saw E.T. like, uncontrollable. Like Dawn. It's gonna be all right. It's an emotional movie for a little kid.
Danny G
So I just want to remind everyone some of these classics. It's interesting to see what stands the test of time. My kids really liked Goonies. My wife insisted that they watch Homeward Bound. They like that, too.
Rich Davis
It's like wizard of Oz. It's a little touchy because it's magical, but it's scary. With the Witch, for little kids, there's a time and place.
Danny G
My daughter watched wizard of Oz before I took her to see Wicked. She's 8, which I thought was right around the right age.
Rich Davis
That's a good age. Yeah.
Danny G
And I'm shocked that I haven't even thought to break out E.T.
Rich Davis
Now you put that number one. So we agree on that.
Danny G
Yeah.
Rich Davis
Anybody else, I thought have an order that differs or.
Danny G
At first I thought ET And Austin Powers were close because you're out of your mind. But you forget the influence.
Rich Davis
Goofy ass movie. That isn't even number two, but whatever. So one is a comedy. First of all, comedies will never be in that category, but doesn't even come close to E.T.
Danny G
Okay.
Rich Davis
And the magical feeling it gave to every little kid in the 80s that wanted to ride their BMX across the sky.
Danny G
No, man, we don't have to fight about it. Jeez. I'm kidding.
Rich Davis
Does anybody else agree or disagree?
Covino
Yeah, I think Austin Powers in Napoleon are close at 4 and 3.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Danny G
Wow.
Covino
I'm gonna give the the edge to Napoleon Dynamite, though, because, like, at home, we quote that movie more often, and I think it just left more of an impact.
Rich Davis
It's funny, man.
Danny G
Danny G. Not down with the Fembots.
Covino
No, I mean, I liked Austin Powers, and then I would go E.T.
Danny G
It'S not my baby.
Covino
And Ferris Bueller, number one.
Rich Davis
Wow. Okay. All right. I could see that. I mean, we talked about it last week, how. How huge that movie is. We said it was the number one comedy drama, teen comedy drama of the 80s, so I could see that. But E.T. is like, upper echelon, cinematic masterpiece.
Danny G
What's up, D.B.
Spot
I also feel that there's this interesting dichotomy, if you will, between ET and what Napoleon Dynamite is and how they were made, who they were made by, and everything that came with it. So I think that E.T. is this machine. But part of what made Napoleon Dynamite great was the simplicity of it in that aspect. Yeah.
Covino
They barely spent any money to make it.
Spot
Yes. So that's what I find is interesting in all of this. I had Ferris Bueller, number one. I would put Napoleon Dynamite 2 on my list because I feel I reference it more than I do anything of Austin Powers. And I was just too. I wasn't too young for E.T. i remember. But in these other three movies would be like, Wheelhouse of teenager, early 20s.
Danny G
Where I'm watching rewatches where ET you might have seen twice in your life. Correct.
Rich Davis
Not to date myself. And I know it's shocking, being how young and spry and handsome I look and everything, but I remember seeing E.T. in the theater. Yeah.
Danny G
What are you, 80?
Rich Davis
Yeah, I did. So as a little 80s kid, I was like, this is the greatest movie. I was trying to hold back my bottle tears.
Covino
You were the first to try Reese's Pieces.
Rich Davis
I had my little red sweatshirt. Man, I wanted to be like Elia.
Danny G
Well, on this day, they all came out. Now, before we get to Jameis Winston.
Rich Davis
This is like a magical movie day. Yeah.
Danny G
Before we get to Jameis Winston and some NFL and some NBA Finals. Does each of those four movies have E.T. phone home?
Rich Davis
See, he doesn't phone home. What? I thought he says home phone. I thought there was a Mandela effect.
Danny G
I think in the part where he's in the bedroom with Elliot. He says, home phone. See, look at you convincing me.
Rich Davis
Remember he got twisted, too? Remember how drunk he got? That guy?
Danny G
Remember when the flower came back to life? I remember as a little kid being like. Like, crying.
Sam
Well, Elliot starts with an E, ends with a T. E, T. They're synced up.
Rich Davis
Yeah, the boy.
Sam
Because, like, their health is. Is aligned.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Magical movie.
Danny G
If there is there a. Obviously, we said ET Phone home. Are there. Is there a quote from each of those movies where, like, that's the quote. This Ferris wheel. Life moves pretty fast.
Rich Davis
I'll be right here.
Danny G
I'll be right here.
Rich Davis
Well, no, ET Phone Home is the one everybody says, so I'd say probably that from Austin Powers. Yeah, baby. Yeah.
Sam
There is a quote from the beginning of ET Where Elliot calls his brother something very offensive and it blanks breath.
Rich Davis
Yes.
Sam
The absolute funniest thing I've ever heard. And it's an insult that will live on forever.
Rich Davis
I call Rich dad all the time.
Danny G
I heard it.
Covino
There's so many from Napoleon Dynamite. If the kids are complaining there's nothing to eat. My wife will always say, go make yourself a damn Casadilla. If Steak. Tina, if you vote for me, all of your wildest dreams will come true.
Rich Davis
That's the one I say the most. Yeah, the vote for Pedro.
Covino
Yeah.
Spot
How many times do we say, I could throw a football over the mountains?
Covino
Yeah, good one.
Rich Davis
Do you know how many people are just realizing that Uncle Rico is the dude from the White Lotus? Yeah, people haven't put that together. Uncle Rico is. Is it Gary? Is that who it is? Jerry Gary from the White Lotus? Is that the character's name?
Danny G
What?
Sam
I don't think that guy's had a lot of roles. I don't think he has any hair in White Lotus.
Rich Davis
Right, exactly. He's bald in the white lot.
Sam
And obviously, honestly, in Napoleon Dynamite, he looks like he's wearing a wig there, too. But, yeah, my same guy.
Rich Davis
Oh, what's the quote from Ferris Bueller, then?
Danny G
Is it life moves pretty fast, or is it just Bueller? He's a right Bueller.
Sam
I think it is Bueller. I think it's Ben Stein.
Rich Davis
You know what? You know, it might be. You're right, because honest, that's the one.
Danny G
You might quote the most. Because if someone's not here, like, where's Danny? Would be like, bueller. Bueller. Like, you would say that till this day.
Rich Davis
All right, so. And by the way, I think it's Greg from the White Lotus. Is Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite.
Spot
Vote for Pedro.
Rich Davis
It's originally Gary.
Danny G
Pedro.
Rich Davis
Hey, you know what?
Covino
Chickens have large talons.
Danny G
That's my favorite quote.
Sam
Do the chickens have large talons?
Rich Davis
Maybe we have to watch a magic. One of those magical movies after the NBA Finals game.
Danny G
Or if OKC is up 25 at halftime, you can watch E.T. tonight with your kids.
Rich Davis
Yeah, but E.T. you got to bust out the popcorn. Everyone's got to shut up. You got to pay attention. No talking over the movie. No busting out the phone. You know what I mean? It's one of those special ones. Now, we ended yesterday's show with this, so we have to continue today. We got to talk over promise. By the way, if you have any thoughts on these movies, 87799 on Fox. But we talked about Jameis Winston and what a colorful guy he is and how funny he is and how great he is just as a personality. The story was that former New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram shared that Jameis Winston once gave a speech that started with the prayer. So you can imagine that, right? They're all praying. He's doing his thing. But the prayer, yeah, you can totally see him doing that. The prayer ended with him singing the Monday Night Football theme song. So talk about a roller coaster again, of emotions.
Covino
He went from Ephesians 4:32 to Faith Hill.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Are you ready for the football?
Danny G
Oh, he went from Corinthians to Hank.
Rich Davis
Williams Jr. And that's Jameis Winston in a nutshell. Hey, I'm in a nutshell.
Danny G
Great Austin Powers quote.
Sam
Hey, loop it back around. Nicely done.
Rich Davis
Comeback. There you go. So now, based on that, because that sounds kind of odd. There's been some great speeches in sports history, in TV history, but we want to go over some of the worst ones, because how could you take anybody serious when they're doing this full on prayer into that goofiness, which is the theme song. And again, I get it. Loosen everybody up. It's fun, it's memorable. It's all those things. But based on that, some of the worst speeches that come to mind.
Danny G
Did he do the Monday night theme in spoken word? Like, are you ready for some football? A Monday night party. We got Frank, Al, and Dan to get a Kickstarter. Like, did he say it in. In word or song?
Rich Davis
No, it says, oh, singing, singing. It ended with him singing the Monday Night Football theme song. You can imagine what the other teammates must have been thinking, like, watching this go down. But this guy's so in his zone. As we've come to Notice in the past few years. So that's the story of Jameis Winston told by Mark Ingram. And when it comes to. By the way, it ties into your previous discussion, Rich, about the movies. When you think about the worst speeches, the one that comes to mind, I think for most people, and correct me if I'm wrong, because we open it up to everybody. 87799 on Fox. I think the worst speech is from one of my favorite movies. Didn't come out on this day, but we all saw the Wedding Singer Steve Buscemi at Cindy Scott and Cindy's Wedding. Whoopada doo. Yeah. When Steve Buscemi does his speech, I think that's everybody's reference to, like, the worst speech ever.
Danny G
Cause it's so hard.
Rich Davis
When my brother Harold asked me to be the best man at his wedding, I was like, oh, of course, man. Cause you've always been there for me.
Sam
That's right.
Rich Davis
When I was in rehab. And at the time, I couldn't find my car. Cause Harold, you know, he's always been the dependable one and I've always been the screwed up one. Right, dad? Why can't you be more like your brother?
Danny G
Harold wouldn't ever beat up his landlord he's in front of.
Rich Davis
But little news flash, Pop. Harold ain't so perfect. Remember that time in Puerto Rico when we picked up those two? Well, I guess they were prostitutes, but I don't remember paying.
Sam
Okay, how about that?
Rich Davis
How about that? Yeah, terrific. I'm a person too, Pop. I'm a person too. You're a moron. Okay, the best man, everybody. Best man. The better man. And who does great? He, like, stumbles off the stage. Like, the way he falls is so great. Like, Steve Buscemi owned that. Worst best man speech ever. I think that's a lot of our generations go to when you have the thought of worst speeches ever. It could be in your personal life. It could be from a movie. It could be something you saw at a sporting event. Could have been in a huddle. You were in.
Danny G
Yeah, bro. Did you see that clip from like a month ago on social media, where the dudes at his anniversary party, but he knows his wife was cheating on him.
Rich Davis
It was his 40th birthday.
Danny G
Oh, it's his 40th birthday?
Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
It was the fireman from New Jersey, if I'm not mistaken. He was from. Was it Bayonne or Belleville or Bloomfield? I forget where he was from. But yeah, he's celebrating his 40th, and.
Danny G
Everyone at first thinks he's goofing around. He's like, yeah, I know, Galante. I know, because you're a hooah. And he goes off saying like, I know you did this, I know you did that. And he goes off on the wife, and everyone's like, oh, my God, is this for real? And he used that opportunity, went viral.
Rich Davis
Yes. It broke the Internet, as they say, Jersey fireman. And it was an absolutely true story. When things like that happen, your first thought is, this is staged. This is fake. This is for the clicks, for the gram. But this was a real one. Look, I'm from Jersey. And it got around where everyone's like, yeah, I know that dude. And, yeah, it's real. And this is what happened. And absolutely real story. If you haven't seen it, it's the most awkward thing you've ever seen because everyone's there to celebrate the guy and he pulls a Buscemi. Like, yeah, yeah. Thank you, everybody, for coming out to my in laws. I love you guys and everybody. Can you believe we're all here, by the way?
Danny G
I know.
Rich Davis
No, you know what he does? He. He has her like there, and he gets down and he takes her ring off and says he has a new one for her, but he does. Yeah, and he takes it and he's like, yeah, I know what you did. And this and that. And calls her out. Real awkward. Man. That has to be down in the history books.
Danny G
I will say this. The key to speeches, while we take your feedback, I think, is not to make it about yourself at all. I know it was a movie, but before he even went off, what makes the Steve Buscemi thing funny and relatable is that we've all been somewhere where someone does a speech and somehow they start making it about them all the time, every time. I always find it odd when, like, awkward part of a wedding, even when a bride, bridesmaids, like. I remember when me and Jessica were in second grade, we were at my house for a slumber party. It's like, no one cares about you or your slumber party. We're here for her wedding. To that dude. Wish him well toasted and call today.
Rich Davis
Let me please express this. I don't think I've ever said this on Fox Sports Radio. People who know me and. And have grown with the show on Patreon know this. But that's why I got married in Vegas and Elvis was there. The whole formality of the speeches and first dances and I get it special and all that, but it's so awkward to me. It makes my Stomach turn, so I wanted to avoid all of that.
Danny G
So you thought having Elvis marry you was better?
Rich Davis
I just wanted to get it out of the way, dude. I didn't want to deal with any of that stuff because it's so awkward.
Covino
How about some speeches from coaches to bring it back to sports? This made me think of like, five, six years ago on Hard Knocks. Remember Jon Gruden when he was going off in front of the team at practice saying, everybody's got a dream of making it in the NFL, or I got a dream of winning the super bowl, or I got a dream of being in the Pro bowl, but I'm not really into dreams anymore. I'm into effing nightmares. He said, you got to end. You got to remember someone's dream. You got to take their job, you got to take their heart.
Sam
Yeah, that took a turn.
Danny G
That was a hell of a cool speech. I remember that.
Rich Davis
And was it?
Danny G
You don't think it was a cool speech?
Covino
It was a little awkward.
Sam
I think it took weird turns.
Danny G
I'll just say that, well, John Cruden's back in a big way. People forgave him.
Rich Davis
Do you remember that story from a few years ago when Marshawn lynch got in trouble for cursing at little kids in a speech and they didn't like his coaching style? Do you remember that? And the parents had an issue with it. And we're like, we talked about it originally. It's football. It's a different sort of setting. But the parents were real offended with how he was addressing the kids in those speeches and huddles because he was cursing at them. And that became an issue and a little awkward, I imagine.
Danny G
Well, hey, your thoughts on Jameis. The worst speeches, anything you want to bring up. And, you know, it sort of ties together with something baseball legend Adam Wainwright says that he brings up every time he talks to kids when he coaches. And it's own. His own kids. And it has to do with what he emphasizes. He said, hey, this is what he'll say for kids, I have three rules, and I'll give the kids a little speech. Be a great teammate, have fun out there, and play your hardest.
Rich Davis
Weirdest, weakest speeches of all time. A la Jameis Winston story.
Danny G
I agree with you. By the way, the most memorable bad speech is from the movie the Wedding. Singer Steve Buscemi. It's the number one answer on the.
Rich Davis
Board, at least for our generation. Definitely.
Danny G
How many times do you jokingly say, the better man?
Rich Davis
Yeah, that one is quoted all the time. But Dan Beyer during the break, checked out Nick Galante. He was a Belleville firefighter who basically called his wife out for being a cheating no good for nothing in front of everybody. And that went viral recently. Really awkward speech that he made, but it made me think of some other stuff, too. Before we move on, what you got recently in the fight game? You always see some weird things happen because people are a little punch drunk. Anthony Joshua, when he lost a fight a few fights back, he got on the mic and started saying some crazy stuff. It's like someone grabbed the mic from this guy. That's why announcers and interviewers never want to give up their microphone, because you never know what these guys are going to do with it. This guy made an ass of himself in front of everybody.
Danny G
If you want to laugh.
Rich Davis
Boxer Anthony Joshua.
Danny G
He's on the list.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Danny G
You know what I want to put on the list, because people have isolated these because they're just so ridiculous. Have you ever really listened to some old school wrestling promo speeches from back in the day?
Rich Davis
Oh, yeah. Some of them are great.
Danny G
Like the Ultimate Warrior. It was just gibberish.
Rich Davis
He's just gibberish.
Danny G
The warrior. He's saying nothing.
Rich Davis
But, dude, Anthony Joshua did that in real life. And speaking of boxing, you can't forget when Tommy Gunn was doing his speech.
Danny G
And.
Rich Davis
He thanked George Washington Duke instead of Rocky Balboa. That was really awkward.
Danny G
Hurts my heart.
Rich Davis
That was. It was an awkward, awkward moment, guys.
Danny G
So I'd like to thank one man who helped get me here. Rocky's about to stand up. Yo. He's talking about me.
Rich Davis
Absolutely.
Danny G
Mr. George Washington Duke. Adrian, it's okay. It's okay.
Rich Davis
So share your stories and your thoughts. Awkward speeches. Maybe it was at your wedding. Every wedding I go to everyone. Those speeches are awkward as hell.
Danny G
I mean, the groom usually nails it with the best man.
Rich Davis
Speech.
Danny G
Speech. It's a lot of times to me now I sound sexist. It's usually the maid of honor who goes on and on with, like, notes about, like, you really feel. Oh, come on. Like you're not thinking the same man.
Rich Davis
Ladies, I want you all to know, that's Rich Davis, everybody.
Danny G
I'm moving along. Gus. In Los Gatos, California, that is the Cats, everybody. What's up, man?
Rich Davis
Hey. Hey, guys. Hey, guys. Love the show. And I agree with you, that's usually the time to run to the bar when the maid of honors, but.
Danny G
So.
Covino
Both of you are sexist.
Rich Davis
My dad, believe it or not, shout out to Father's Day. He used to say the same Thing to me, play hard, have fun. But the last thing he would say was win. And I'm wondering if parents even broach that subject with their kids anymore, if winning even matters.
Danny G
But it's interesting you would say that because Rich Davis winning is coach, sports.
Rich Davis
History, woman hater, club. Rich Davis winning.
Covino
Winning percentage of 325.
Danny G
That's true. No, you know, I talk about it quite a bit because it's a big part of my life. Now. I coach my daughter softball, but right now I'm coaching My son's 5U. Let me repeat that. 5U All Stars. I don't know how they even make a kid that's five and all star. It seems like the kids that were just interested, that wanted to keep playing for another month. We have our first tournament this week, and it's the first time these kids are going to play where a score is kept. So, frankly, if you guys have any advice, I would love to hear it, because I keep telling them, hey, we're here to have fun. We're here to learn the game. I love baseball. I want you to love baseball the way coach does. We're going to have fun. We're going to play harder than the other team. We're going to hustle, we're going to make friends. And this is going to be one of the best times of your life. But I have not talked about winning because I don't. I don't know. I mean, the other team's gonna try to win, but I've talked to the.
Rich Davis
Other coaches and tells, hey, kids, you want to be a winner or you want to be a wiener? And see what they say.
Danny G
It's a good one.
Rich Davis
Yeah, that's how it started.
Danny G
They'll be like, yeah, I want to be a winner. I have said to the other parents.
Rich Davis
That'S right, because we're not weenies, am I right?
Danny G
I have said to the parents, every kid's going to play. No one's going to sit or anything like that. They're five. But I have said to the parents, I mean, you put money and time into this. The other team's going to try to win. So we're going to try to win, too. I know winning isn't everything at five, but we are also going to try to win.
Rich Davis
Plant the seed and set the foundation.
Danny G
And I said, you know why? Because if they win, they're going to feel good about themselves.
Rich Davis
We went from worse speeches to actually great motivational, actually simple teachings, but meaningful teachings of Adam Wainwright. He says, for the kids I have three rules. One, be a great teammate. Two, have fun. And three, play your hardest. Those are my three rules. Every time we get out of the car and they say them back to me and I think it's a great way to play the game. So those are his three rules. Adam Wainwright, Couldn't agree more. Famous MLB Cardinal, be a good teammate.
Danny G
You're right. Try hard. And you know, I believe it was Derek Jeter who always talked about no one will out hustle him. Right.
Rich Davis
It's hard to beat someone that never quits. Actually Babe Ruth.
Danny G
But what if Jeter had another one too? Like no one. Maybe I'm giving Jeter Babe credit.
Rich Davis
Babe Ruth said, hot dogs are great. See, he said, I'll have another hot dog. Yeah. And he also said, hard to beat somebody that never gives up. Right. I'm sure Jeter has some motivational Never.
Covino
Let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game. That was Babe Ruth.
Rich Davis
Oh, there you go. See Babe Ruth.
Danny G
You ever watch a Babe documentary? Kavino and I watched one where all the players that played with Babe that were somehow still alive. This documentary might have been 20 years ago. They all respected and loved the Babe.
Rich Davis
So much, no matter what he did.
Danny G
That they oversaw all the things he did. It was like, yeah, the Babe slept with my wife. But hey, that's the Babe. Would you believe the Babe kicked me in the huevo, kicked me in the balls and then took my gal. Oh, man, the Babe, he was a hell of a guy.
Sam
I learned a lesson that day. A real important lesson about life.
Rich Davis
Now it's a Babe.
Spot
The absolute opposite of nick galante. The 100% opposite.
Danny G
Yes. All right, now I want to bring up one thing and we're going to get to Dan Byers update. But let me just throw this out there. I have a story about Roman Anthony. He is the young stud prospect on the Boston Red Sox. There's a wild stat about him. And also, is that a character on Spartacus? Roman Anthony. Thoughts about him and not just about him. We'll get to this next. Let's say hi to Damn buyer for an update.
Spot
DB Boy, what an amazing 5 minutes it's been for Danny G. Okay, Teoscar Hernandez just hit a three run home run for the Dodgers. They lead the Padres for one of the sixth and the Raiders have signed free agent linebacker Jermaine Pratt who just let go of the Cincinnati Bengals. So yeah, maybe by the end of the update, the Lakers will do something.
Rich Davis
Like Danny G. Was thrusting in the other studio.
Spot
Mix of this and that will get back to the NFL and baseball in a second. But we start with the NBA game three of the finals tonight. Thunders and Pacers 8:30 Eastern time.

Danny G
Air last night at Citi Field when my dude Jeff McNeil hit a walk.
Rich Davis
Off leading off the bottom of the 10th winning run at second base.
Danny G
Henry deals swinging a line drive right field base hit for Jeff McNeil. Acuna rounds third. Hassell's throw to the plate. Acuna races on by. No tag. Ball game. Mets win it again in 10. Five for New York over Washington. Put it in the books. Mets win courtesy of the Mets radio network. And last night, first pitch. So you know the overtime. Overtime, you know the extra inning rules where obviously a guy starts at second. Acuna gets the second first pitch. McBeal line drive, base hit. So extra innings lasted one pitch.
Rich Davis
I saw it. And your boy Soto hit another opposite field blast. So he's heating up right now. And that's your tire act. Play of the day. I'm Covino, that is Rich, Danny G. Sam Byer spot is getting ready for midweek, Major. And we have one Call now to wrap up this Adam Wainwright best speech sort of thing about the kids.
Danny G
By the way, you mentioned my dude, Soto. You know what he did last night for the first time as a Met. Not the Soto Shuffle.
Rich Davis
Smiled. I don't know. Tell me.
Danny G
There's videos of him smiling where it's funny how people are trying to paint this picture that he hates the Mets. Juan Soto, for the first time last night, did the cool thing he did last year as a Yankee where he sees a pitch that he gets beat on. He looks at the pitcher and goes, okay. And the next pitch hit a bomb.
Rich Davis
Did you hear that? He said, okay, guys. Juan Soto. He said, okay. I'm just kidding.
Danny G
MacGyver.
Rich Davis
He wants.
Danny G
Okay, MacGyver, South Dakota.
Rich Davis
I don't like him anymore. What's up?
Danny G
What's going on, man?
Rich Davis
Hey, fellas, is this the real MacGyver, or is this MacGruber? Hey, hey, hey. That's my nickname. It rhymes with my first name. But anyway, love, Adam Wainwright. Great advice for coaches.
Danny G
When I was in high school football.
Rich Davis
In practice, quarterback threw an interception and had his helmet on, thank God. But the coach got so mad, he headbutted him and broke his own nose. So don't be that guy.
Danny G
Yeah, have fun. I do wonder, at what level do you start emphasizing winning? And that's a conversation we've had before, and I think it's up for debate.
Rich Davis
Remember, winning is fun. It's part of the fun.
Danny G
Listen, that's what I said to the likes.
Rich Davis
Losing.
Danny G
That's what I said to the parents. I go, listen, winning's not everything. They're so little. But I promise you this. If they win, they'll be really fired up.
Covino
Remember Billy Bob in Friday Night Lights? His big speech was about excelling. He put the emphasis on that rather than winning.
Danny G
Yeah, I feel winning, winning. Maybe I just play some Charlie Sheen clips for the kids.
Rich Davis
Winning, winning. Yeah. Why don't you tell about the tiger's blood?
Danny G
Yeah, there we go. I want to bring up Roman Anthony. Young stud.
Rich Davis
Is he your favorite new rookie? I'm a big fan of this Royals kid that everyone's talking about.
Danny G
It's funny.
Rich Davis
Jack Caglianon.
Danny G
It's funny. Our video guy, Spot, loves hell. For some reason, in baseball, it's appropriate to call young players studs.
Rich Davis
Young stud.
Danny G
I don't know why it is this.
Rich Davis
Kid, Jack Caglianon, however you say his.
Danny G
Name, the young stud.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Young stud. Young stud. Well, but there was a lot of coverage on this kid from Boston, for sure.
Danny G
Roman Anthony. There was A couple funny stories. Number one people have to point out when he was born, the Red Sox lineup was all the people you, Jason.
Rich Davis
Veritek, Kevin Milan, Poppy, Manny, Damon.
Danny G
He was born in 04.
Rich Davis
It was that era. Yeah.
Danny G
So you're like, wait, he was born in a time that I feel like was yesterday.
Covino
That is wild.
Rich Davis
Yeah, I hate that.
Sam
Oh, were you born yesterday?
Danny G
It seems like it. In his first game, he makes an error. He lets the. He plays a gramble to the outfield on his. To the side.
Rich Davis
I remember the whole team was pumped about him being there. They gave him a standing ovation and his debut.
Danny G
But while everyone is talking about this kid, you know, who stole a little of his spotlight, Leah Anthony, his hot sister. And I got to ask if you.
Rich Davis
Oh yeah.
Danny G
If you have a good looking sibling, would you laugh about this? Be mad about it, be happy about it. Like if you're hot sister, take some of the thunder. Do you care or not?
Rich Davis
I'm going to be on a new show premiering this weekend. So set the dvr. I'm going to be on your television Pawn Stars.
Danny G
You're selling your old Dom Mattingly mustache clippings.
Rich Davis
I'm selling. I'm finally selling. I have an appointment with Chum Lee and Rick and all the mustache hair experts that are gonna be there.
Danny G
I'm sorry, you're Derrick, your stirrups.
Rich Davis
You're gonna be on Pawn Stars. No, I'm gonna be on a new show, brand new series on the History Channel called Hazardous History, hosted by the one and only a. Let me tell you something, Cunningham.
Danny G
Hi.
Rich Davis
Henry Winkler, the Fonz. And your boy Cavino is one of the main contributors. I'll be on the first episode and I'll be on some episodes more than others throughout the season.
Danny G
So I saw the trailer for this haz. Like how people used to smoke on airplanes and play with lawn darts and high.
Rich Davis
Yes. Yeah, exactly.
Danny G
People used to use asbestos as fake snow around the holidays all the time.
Covino
Nice.
Rich Davis
Hazardous history. Set the DVR 10, 9 Central this Sunday on the History Channel.
Danny G
What do you know about all that, by the way?
Rich Davis
Everything. Everything.
Danny G
I look at you and I figure your music knowledge and Yankee knowledge and that's it.
Rich Davis
It's funny you say that because I look at you and I realize I don't talk about any of those things. Because you know nothing about it. That's how I feel about it. I feel like I'm wasting my breath talking about anything other than. I get it. Sports with Rich.
Danny G
You don't want to Waste your intellect on me.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Because you never, you look at me cross eyed like you don't know what I'm talking about. So that's Rich Davis. I'm Capo star of Hazardous History with Henry Winkler. And it's my fourth series, fourth different series I've been a part of. So look out for me. And my favorite place to be is right here on Fox Sports Radio with you guys. And we're getting ready for midweek Major and Mike's Wednesday words of wisdom.
Danny G
By the way, any final thoughts on Roman Anthony's good looking sister? Do you think it's distracting fun for the family? Her Instagram tally has doubled.
Rich Davis
Like, is there more than doubled?
Danny G
Is there something there? Or no? Or do you think the family gets a kick out of it? Or like, oh, your sister got a little bit.
Rich Davis
The thing is this. He's a big leaguer, so it's not like he suffers from this at all. It's like the weenie in high school who has the hot sister because he's always the weenie with the hot sister. This kid's in the big leagues. It doesn't really matter. It's just, you know, they're a blessed family at this point.
Danny G
It's like, well, they're the big leaguer kid and they have a hot daughter.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Danny G
It's like at the NFL draft when there's always like a hot mom or hot sister that just happens to be cheering on. It's like, wait a minute, pause. Who's that?
Rich Davis
Roman Anthony also smacked the double yesterday, drove in a run and his mom was there all teary eyed. And it was a nice moment. So we're seeing some young superstars called up really early. These are really young kids. Between that kid from Kansas City, like I said, check Gaglione.
Covino
Denzel Clark of the A's. Denzel Clark, been up in the bigs for three weeks.
Rich Davis
This Roman Anthony kid.
Danny G
Baseball's having a moment. The superstars, the young kids. We're going to get back to the stage where you could name a few players on each team. And I call it the old starting lineup days where when you were a kid in the 80s or 90s, you can name a team and you knew the star players. There was a minute in baseball where you're like, I don't really know many guys.
Rich Davis
That's true, man. And I love every second of it. By the way, side story, to piggyback, what Rich is saying is as we see low ratings in the NBA finals, I imagine, Right. Even though it's Been a great battle so far. I'm not knocking the NBA, but MLB's ratings are really skyrocketing, which is crazy because they're losing that deal with espn. So we're seeing the MLB ratings really going through the roof with all these young superstars.
Danny G
Baseball's on the rise, NBA on the downside. Some people say a small markets in the playoffs. Your boy Clay Travis said it's the woke nature of the NBA. Did you see that, Danny?
Covino
Yeah. It's probably a better possibility that it's two small market teams, but we'll see what happens in Indiana tonight. I think the Pacers are going to show up. This is going to turn into a long series.
Danny G
I think, I think it's the fact that the fact that it's at Indiana is a great setting for game three, being that it's one one because if it was two zero and it's. I don't know, then they're. Then there they need it. But they could split in Indiana.
Spot
And sure, I also think this, that it's not necessarily this small market for the median, you know, aspect of it, but it also just tells you on how much the superstars matter and may tell you a little bit about SGA on if he is that guy that will transcend. I know that there's been a lot talk lately about it and I feel that it's kind of been fake because there hasn't been a lot to talk about. But I think this tells you a little bit where if it was Cleveland with LeBron, we're obviously watching because it's LeBron for that aspect. The schedule hasn't helped either. Just a lot of time between games.
Danny G
But I agree with everything you just said, Dan. And I agree with other people that have said, you know, you can't talk out of both sides of your mouth. You can't say we don't want these super teams, these major market teams.
Rich Davis
Rich is a real wiener.
Danny G
Maybe you can talk out of both sides of your mouth, but you can't say we don't want these super mega teams with stars in big markets. And then when you get the two homegrown small market teams that aren't paying a luxury tax, you're like, these teams stay.
Spot
Yeah. Agree with you 100%.
Danny G
It's like, what do you want?
Rich Davis
Do you know who they're giving a lot of the credit in the MLB to besides all the obvious young superstars we mentioned? Not the Yankees. No, they credit. It starts with superstars.
Danny G
Yeah.
Rich Davis
It really starts with, well, who is the draw. And it's Shohei Ohtani, worldwide superstar, and Aaron Judge, who is a guy that moves the needle. Shohei Ohtani, dude, when he gets his last at bat in at a game, the stadium clears because they're all there to see that guy. And it's happening in every stadium. It's like. Like it starts raining or something. Everybody gets up out of their seat. All right. Aaron judging his last at bat. All right, I'm going to go beat the traffic. They all leave. All right. And because of the popularity they've created, all these other young superstars are getting that extra shine. Baseball is capitalizing.
Spot
I feel like it was about a decade, maybe eight years since I last just went to a regular season baseball game with the Dodgers a few months ago. And when Ohtani came up, I had my phone up in all four of his @ bats. So the same thing you're saying with Judge, like the same thing with Ohtani. I was the same feeling just to.
Rich Davis
Say you saw it. Right. I got two people at bat that I snapped a photo of Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani.
Danny G
I was at the Mets Dodgers game and no joke, I did Soto and Ohtani.
Rich Davis
And then there's the Lynn Doors of the world. So, I mean, not to sleep on the other superstars.
Covino
It feels like the Pacers need Halliburton to have another big clutch moment tonight to show some star power.
Rich Davis
Well, yeah, what we're seeing in the NBA is the. I guess the beginning or the start of what could be, could be superstars in the future. So, hey, I'm excited about game.
Danny G
It's like when I play rec softball. When am I. I'm don't my last at bat. Like the eight. The eight people just leaves. Yeah, I get it.
Rich Davis
Everybody leaves.
Danny G
Hey, let me ask you this before we get to mic words of wisdom, which will be quick. I do want to ask. I was Sam, you're a huge Caitlin Clark fan and she's been on the il which has really done damage to the WNBA ratings and ticket prices, viewership ticket prices. Like it was like hundreds of dollars. Now you could get it. I think they pay you to go to the games now. Yes, that's true.
Sam
Not true, but yeah, I think it's like three bucks.
Danny G
You could get a cup of coffee. You could. Caramel macchiato costs more.
Sam
You get a bobblehead.
Danny G
Is Caitlin Clark still a bigger star in that state if the Pacers win the NBA Finals, man. Is Halliburton a bigger star than Caitlin Clark if the Pacers find out a win.
Rich Davis
He's done some incredible things, man. I don't know. It's a tough one. I would say no only because she's someone responsible for bringing an attention attention to an entire league.
Sam
I think in that if you're just keeping it in the state of Indiana though, everyone's minds are going to be on the Pacers and on Halliburton and Siakam and all their great players. And I think in the moment for at least the summer because their season's just getting started. So I think it'll be.
Danny G
Are you happy out come summer?
Sam
Is that what you hot sea outcome summer?
Rich Davis
That's so stupid.
Danny G
Well, hey, enjoy your NBA finals tonight and get well better Caitlin Clark. For the sake of a whole league that is depending on you. It seems to be. But let's do it. Mike's words of wisdom. We do this every Wednesday. Big Mike, who runs this place.
Covino
Listen closely.
Danny G
He shares his words of wisdom. You repeat them verbatim, word for word and you win a Covino and Rich Swiggy.
Rich Davis
877-9 on Fox. Listen and call.
Danny G
Now.
Rich Davis
It's time for the guy that runs this place.
Spot
Just for clarification, guys, Big Mike does not run this place. He is not in charge of everything. He has no power over really anybody here. He does not run this place.
Covino
It's Big Mike's words of wisdom on a Wednesday.
Danny G
Patience is what you have when there.
Covino
Are too many witnesses.
Rich Davis
That's so easy. But I'm trying to figure out what it means. I don't get it. I'm trying to figure out what it means.
Sam
I. I know what it means.
Covino
Like you're. When you're by yourself and no one's around, you have a short fuse. Yes.
Sam
When. When there's a lot of people around you don't embarrass yourself having a short fuse.
Rich Davis
Rich was born with a short fuse. So let's be fair.
Danny G
That was a good one.
Rich Davis
They call them old Shortwick Davis over here. That was a Shortwick Davis.
Danny G
James, that was a good one, man.
Covino
All right, so we're not even.
Sam
Was it Inchworm Davis you had was the Inchworm Davis.
Rich Davis
Inchworm Davis was a good cnr.
Covino
We're not even going to need the five contestants.
Rich Davis
Right?
Covino
Because I'm sure the first contestant is going to get this.
Danny G
Yeah. Whoever the lucky duck is that calls in first and repeats Mike's words of wisdom verbatim, you'll get a free Cavino enriched Swiggy. And while we wait for that, let me remind everyone one more time a week from Friday 20th June. Oh, boy, we're going to be having so much fun. Poolside live broadcast at Stadium swim at Circa, then a Friday night party at the Rooftop lounge. Yeah, I'm excited about that Saturday Atomic golf with a brunch.
Rich Davis
Hold on. It was a whole fireworks spectacular that Friday night from the Rooftop.
Danny G
Who'd you hire, the Gucci Brothers?
Rich Davis
Yeah, and I think Robin Thicke is actually performing outside that night. So big party night in Vegas at Circa. So we're bringing that party to you on Fox Sports Radio if you can't make it, but we'd love to see out there.
Danny G
All right, let's go to the first guy through.
Covino
Yeah, this should be easy.
Danny G
On line one with John in Idaho Falls. John, do you think you know Mike's words of wisdom?
Rich Davis
I do.
Covino
Wait for your music. That's gonna make you sound very smart.
Danny G
Here we go. Patience is what you have when there.
Rich Davis
Are too many witnesses. That's a winner.
Sam
That's a winner.
Danny G
Oh, I finally get it. Like, if you lose your cool, you'll be. You'll kill everyone.
Rich Davis
Okay, easy breezy, John.
Covino
Okay, we're gonna mail a Swiggy Otzi there in Idaho Falls.
Rich Davis
All right, that's interesting for Mike. Cause as you get older, you have no patience. My dad goes to get a haircut, and if there's two people sitting there ahead of him, he's like, all right, yeah, I'm leaving two people. Yeah, I'm serious. My dad will come back and he's got like, you know, the hair's all grown out like Ben Franklin on the sides like, dad, I thought you were gonna get a haircut. He's like, yeah, there was too many people there.
Covino
But then it goes in reverse. Once you have another little kid cove, I hope you join r with another toddler in your life.
Danny G
Yeah, no, I hope so, too. Just for perspective, I can't wait for Camino to change diapers again one day.
Covino
Care Koa's new thing. He loves markers and colored markers. He's been coloring with. He's lefty and righty, so he's got a colored marker in both hands. And this morning he was coloring his tongue.
Danny G
I thought you were gonna say the couch, because my kid has colored our.
Sam
Couch, so that's why they make them non toxic, thankfully.
Danny G
Man, you know, it's funny, speaking about.
Covino
Patience, I shouldn't have given him my black marker.
Danny G
Patience. He or she who masters patience could master anything. And you're right about how that's a.
Rich Davis
Better Quote than Mike's.
Danny G
We go through stages of patience. And you could talk about this honestly, you could tie anything into sports because a fan base. If you can master the patience of a rebuild and what it takes to.
Rich Davis
Win, you got to trust the process.
Danny G
As a. Yeah, sometimes trusting the process doesn't work. But patience is very difficult in sports, in marriages with your kids at your job.
Sam
Patience is a lost virtue. These days.
Danny G
No one has patience.
Sam
Especially when with people you don't know you have. People have like, no patience.
Rich Davis
It's a prime now society. We want everything next day, if not the same day. Dude, we want everything on demand. We want a haircut now. Like, we want everything now. And as you get older, it's even more of that.
Danny G
I get aggravated. The other day, the Starbucks mobile app was down and I'm like, you expect me to go in order and wait five minutes for my coffee?
Covino
How many times have you changed the brand on your Amazon order? Because you see that the one you're looking at is not going to come till Saturday. You're like, Saturday, I want it tomorrow.
Danny G
Spot was ordering some of the stuff for our, our convention in Vegas. And you're right. If it doesn't, if it's not here tomorrow, you're like, this can't.
Rich Davis
So patience is what you have when there are too many witnesses.
Danny G
Patience is what you have when there.
Covino
Are too many witnesses.
Danny G
Huh? Interesting.
Sam
All right, let's make a declaration right now. Mike needs to make these harder and longer.
Danny G
Yes, agreed. But I will say one thing about patience. When it comes to patience.
Sam
What would Inchwater Davis know about that?
Danny G
You would say how your dad wouldn't wait at the barbershop.
Rich Davis
My dad doesn't wait anywhere.
Danny G
Like you would think he would just chop it up talking about the Yankees or a fight or something. If the barber chair is not ready.
Rich Davis
My dad could have a physical ailment. And if there's people in the waiting room at the doctor, like, dad, why didn't you stay?
Danny G
Too many people in the waiting room. I ain't got time for that. If it's my time to go, if it's time to go, it's time to go.
Rich Davis
Is that.
Sam
Is that why elderly people run through stop signs? Because they're just like, I'm not stopping time. Time is ticking away now, dude.
Danny G
Sam, my mother in law, if we try to go out for breakfast, if there's like, if, if we go to IHOP and they're like, there'll be a party of eight. You know, you see some grandparents, kids Everyone, man, that will give us like 20 minutes, huh? Unacceptable. And then you drive 20 minutes, you.
Sam
Waste 30 minutes looking for a new spot.
Danny G
20 minutes and you go, you're on like spot number four. And you're like, cindy, we would have.
Rich Davis
Been sitting.
Danny G
Just walked around with Lysol, but, like, sprayed it a lot to the point where I just breathed in and I was like. And I love.
Mike
Like, I'm sitting far in the corner and they blamed me for it. Like, it could reach them from here.
Danny G
Yeah, I don't know.
Rich Davis
Well, anyway, thank you guys for hanging out with us.
Danny G
Stuck in a studio. You stank, Assino and Rich.
Rich Davis
If you think we stink, you're right. Always happy to be hanging with you guys. Now we have more to get to. Wasted talent in life and in sports. There's one poster boy, when you think about it, in the world of sports, who is now the biggest face when it comes to wasted talent.
Danny G
But right now, it's time for midweek Major.
Rich Davis
Cavino. And Rich gets you over the middle.
Covino
Of the week with middle Midweek Major.
Danny G
Oh, I love that.
Rich Davis
We throw sports and pop culture headlines and topics at the fellas. And it's like the kids say, that's so mid week.
Covino
Definitely major C and R scoring midweek Major. That was for game three of the NBA Finals. Getting ready. And I spot. I feel like we have too much time for you today.
Mike
Yeah, I don't want it.
Covino
We're gonna roll these two.
Rich Davis
So much going on. You know what?
Mike
You know how you. You take time away from me? I'm just gonna not use it all today.
Covino
I feel like we could just roll those two big red love dice over there very casually.
Rich Davis
Let's do it, man. Come on. Come on, let's go. Ah. Five. Man, that's weak. That is weak.
Mike
I'm walking away from that table.
Danny G
No.
Rich Davis
3.
Danny G
Yeah.
Mike
Three grabs.
Covino
That means Covino gets first take. And now, ladies and gentlemen, the most famous person besides Judy Blume from Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Spotty boy.
Mike
Hi, boys.
Rich Davis
Hey.
Mike
Must speak. Really slow to use all my time. So former head coach Tom Thibodeau has finally spoken out for the first time since his firing and through a full page ad in the New York Times. So Thibodeau, who was fired on June 3, thanked the new York fans by saying, to the best city in the world with the best fans in the world, thank you. Went on to say how grateful he was for the opportunity. Thank the players and the coaching staff. And then ultimately, in the end, thank the fans for believing in him. And supporting him from day one. Fans took to social media, posted the full page ad on social saying that it was a very classy move and really appreciate it. No has, you know, no word yet as to where he's headed, but midweek or major?
Rich Davis
I think it's major because definitely major. It sucks to lose your gig, but when you see that everybody around your colleagues, your players and your friends and family, everyone, the fans all reach out to say, yo, this, this is messed up. This doesn't seem right. It makes it a little bit better. No. I think so. And the fact that he had this sort of send off, I think it's. It's major. It's a big story. You know what really shocks me that this was eight days ago that it happened. It feels like forever ago. The world of sports ever. Seriously, the world of sports moves so fast. There's always a new story every day. That. That seems like it was at least a month ago, but he got fired in 2022.
Danny G
Seriously. So I'm gonna go mid and major.
Rich Davis
That's so mid. Definitely major.
Danny G
That's so mid. Definitely major. I'll tell you what, mid in that. So many people take out full page ads when they leave a city. What's major about it is it's usually a free agent that leaves the city on their own accord and they're trying to just make nice by being like, I want to thank Philadelphia for all my time, man.
Rich Davis
He got an outcry of love. Like a little bit of vindication was the word I was looking for.
Danny G
But I'm saying we. With everyone being surprised by his departure and his firing, he's leaving with Grace and Clay. And you know what? Everyone will look back. Everyone will look back at the Thibodeau tenure as the Knicks head coach and say that was a good chapter and they're always going to think it may have been cut short. So I think this is a classy move and if anything, he's making himself look better. Major and mid.
Rich Davis
It's good. Wow.
Mike
I think that's the first multiple.
Danny G
Yeah. Because there's something major about it and there's nothing about it.
Rich Davis
Definitely major.
Mike
All right, well, you mentioned it earlier, and I'm just going to go with it. Anyway, Bill's qb, Josh Allen, is gushing over his new wife, Hailee Steinfeld. So during press this week, Allen was asked about how some of the milestones over the last few months affected him, including winning NFL MVP, his $330 million contract extension. He said, quote, they've all been Big but none other than marrying my best friend. She makes everything easier. I don't really focus on other stuff. That was the most important decision I'll make in my life and I made the right one. As you know, they tied the knot on May 31. I believe in California in a special secret ceremony with several teammates in attendance. And of course I don't know if you saw that Larry David in attendance. So some fun people at their wedding.
Danny G
Did we pretty.
Rich Davis
Pretty midweek Olson there. Cuz that dude parties.
Danny G
He should go to every wedding midweek.
Rich Davis
Look up Craig Olson at a wedding. If you've never.
Mike
That was McAffrey's wedding.
Rich Davis
Right. Had a tie around his head. This guy parties. It's major. It's a bit eye rolly cuz who's having a better year than that? Guys? My goodness. But hey, I'm not hating. I'm just stating I'll applaud him. That's. That's incredible. And he's saying and doing. Doing all the right things. There's no doubt about it. That's like the nicest thing he could possibly say about the woman he just married. So I think that's great.
Danny G
I think it's major.
Rich Davis
Definitely major spot.
Danny G
Can you give me the quote one more time that she makes everything easy and better. What was it?
Mike
Yeah, he said she makes everything easier. I don't really focus on other stuff. That was the most important decision I'll make in my life and I made the right one.
Danny G
Choosing the right spouse is crucial to general happiness. General happiness. I love this. Because the opposite is the equally terrible. Marry the right person. Good job. Marry the wrong person. You see this clip of Alec Baldwin.
Rich Davis
Marry the wrong person in Vegas, man.
Danny G
Sorry, you're the one that brought it up. Yeah, it's a bad story. Did you see that clip of Alec Baldwin from maybe like a month ago where he's on a red carpet and what's his wife? Hilaria.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Danny G
Cuts him off, puts her hand in his face and you see the look on his face like I hate her. Marrying the wrong person. That makes your life more difficult. Will bring you down.
Mike
Has Josh Allen seen Sinners yet though?
Danny G
I mean let me tell you, good for Josh Allen. He's just a Lombardi trophy shy of hitting all the goals in life.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Sam
Can she make it easier for the Bills to win a Super Bowl?
Danny G
I mean happy, happy life at home. Sam makes going to work easier. I remember when I was dating someone that was a pain in my ass. I would grumpy to work And I wouldn't say. Was it the same guy. True story.
Rich Davis
Good, good.
Mike
Oh, you did.
Danny G
Next story.
Rich Davis
All right.
Mike
Angel Reese, your favorite, has been named Sportswoman of the Year at the BT Awards for the third straight year in a row. Beating out some.
Danny G
Is that serious?
Mike
Hold on. Beating out. I'll get there. Beating out Simone Files, Coco Gauff, and several fellow NBA players. And given Reese's lackluster performance of late left fans scratching their heads.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Mike
Reese is one of only three women to win the award more than once. And check out her company, the other company, the other two. Serena Williams, who won it 16 times, and Naomi Asaka, who won it twice. Fans were upset because Goff just won the French Open, dominated there. And Biles, of course, gold medal winner, is dominated. And then fellow nominee boxer Clarissa Shields even spoke out, saying, still don't know how to. I didn't win Sportswoman of the Year. Congrats to Angel Reese. I just thought accolades mattered. So for comparison, by the way, the, the man, the sports man of the year, Jalen Hurts. So midweek or major?
Rich Davis
Week? Week. Week all around. I mean, nothing against the BET Awards. I saw a lot of the highlights of some. Mariah Carey won her first for her iconicness.
Mike
I mean, she's an icon.
Rich Davis
Yeah, yeah, she's an icon. But Angel Reese, three years in a row, Simone Biles, Olympic gold. I know she was in some controversy.
Mike
Yeah, I'd see.
Rich Davis
Yeah, right. She was a little outspoken about the transgender stuff that she got in some hot water and Coco G just won. So how is she not the person? I don't get it.
Danny G
Ridiculous.
Rich Davis
Yeah, it's. It's really weird.
Danny G
This is major. Definitely major, because people keep putting this woman on a pedestal that she, she doesn't deserve. She's a great athlete, but you talk about the best, that would be like me saying, you know, the greatest fighters. Ali, Frazier, Tyson Fury, you know, Lennox Lewis and Glass Joe. Like, she doesn't fit. Remember Sesame Street? One of these things is not like the other. The others are accomplished.
Rich Davis
Glass Joe, they called her the Glass Joe of that. Of the other nominees, I guess.
Danny G
Right.
Sam
I would get it after she won the national championship with lsu. I'd even get it after maybe last year where she was really good double doubles, you know that. But three years in a row, I don't get that.
Rich Davis
Well, I'm, I'm guessing the thinking is that often she may appear to be overlooked. I, I when it comes to Caitlin Clark and the love that she gets. So this is their way of, of giving back to her, but she's won it twice already. I. I disagree with it, but who the heck am I?
Danny G
Yeah, who cares what I will say this though. I do love following these guys on social media. I showed Spot. They bet a prop bet every day for Angel Reese to miss her first shot and she always misses her first shot and these guys keep doubling.
Rich Davis
She hit a three yesterday.
Danny G
I know, but it's just very funny. Yeah.
Rich Davis
You shouldn't be surprised though, when she's hitting threes. That's the thing.
Danny G
Yeah, exactly. All right, Spotty.
Rich Davis
Next.
Mike
All right, next. Since you mentioned sports betting, we'll stick with that. So according to a recent anonymous poll by the Athletics, it seems that MLB players aren't too thrilled with legalized sports betting. So 133 players were polled as part of this poll from the Athletic and asked the question, has legalized sports betting changed how fans treat you or your teammates? And a whopping 78.2% said it has, saying the situation has become way more negative, especially on social media, citing how, yeah, people wouldn't say stuff to your face. Other fans yelling stuff in person about bets they've taken demanding like over unders on certain stats to players. One other player even said they got a Venmo request saying, quote, you owe me $9,000 because you blew the game. I need you to send me money or I'm going to find your family. And this isn't an isolated incident. And then. Yeah, a related story, actually, golfer Scotty Scheffler said that he had to delete his Venmo because people were either sending him money or requesting money based on sports betting. So it seems like sports betting has kind of gotten personal attacks on players. And I'm sure it's across all sports midweek or may.
Danny G
Wow.
Rich Davis
This is major because it's now become such a big part of why people watch. And I get it. It adds to the excitement. It's a lot of fun when you have action on the game, but get a life, loser. You're taking it out on these professional athletes because they didn't deliver. Who wants to deliver more than them? They're the ones. No one's out there doing it. I just don't understand that mindset. I don't get it. And I don't respect the people that take things to that next level.
Danny G
I think this is absolutely major.
Rich Davis
Definitely major.
Danny G
It's the part of gambling we don't talk about enough this fun to wager this fun betting on football and basketball. And hey, doing our DraftKings, pick six, which I love. Oh, you know, Soto over a one and a half bases. Aaron Judge, a home run.
Rich Davis
Tatis handling like a. Like a degenerate. But.
Danny G
But you know what?
Rich Davis
You lose. You lose with grace.
Danny G
A lot.
Rich Davis
That guy's fault.
Danny G
I'm like Thibodeau. I'm a graceful guy.
Rich Davis
No one's forcing you to bet on that guy.
Danny G
But you know what? I will say there are days where I'm like, oh, man, Tatis. Or, you know, a guy, whoever.
Rich Davis
But who bet on Tatis?
Danny G
You. I know, but what I'm saying.
Rich Davis
Put yourself in the head.
Danny G
But what I'm saying is I am a mature adult. So is Dan Meyer, Danny G, you, everyone in the room, for the most part, mature adults. What I'm saying is that most people aren't. So. So you're gonna hold resentment if you miss the 6 out of 6 pick 6 parlay because Bogarts comes up short.
Rich Davis
You're gonna be a goddamn Bogart.
Danny G
And you're gonna be all, you know, you're gonna be rude about it.
Rich Davis
Mm.
Danny G
And it's terrible. It's the bad part of sports gambling. I hate this. I hate it, hate it, hate it.
Rich Davis
So, yeah, when you have that and then you have social media, the hate is gonna go there towards that guy because of these things.
Danny G
Like, the other day, deGrom threw his first game where he didn't have a strikeout. I guarantee, you see that someone that was mad at the ground because his. His strikeout.
Rich Davis
Over.
Danny G
Under. Hit the under.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Forget that.
Danny G
He.
Rich Davis
You know, he won or whatever the case.
Danny G
It doesn't matter.
Sam
Did you guys see that? Gabby Douglas was heckled by some and he, like, got her to screw up her performance so he could win a bet like it was.
Rich Davis
That was. Yeah, that's gross. It's not necessarily the problem with gambling. It's the problem with people.
Danny G
Yeah. Yeah, no doubt. Well, thank you, spot. That was a fun.
Rich Davis
Thanks for giving me some time.
Danny G
No problemo. Let's go to Dan Byer for an update. DB what's going on, my friend?
Spot
Guys, in the NBA, it's game three of the finals tonight between the Thunder and Pacers, tipping off from Indianapolis at 8:30 Eastern Time. Series is tied up at 2 apiece.
Danny G
By the way, remember the other day? I Was mad that SGA's over? Under was 31 and a half, and I bet the over and he hit 31. Be mad at SGA. I'm just an idiot. So. See that? He ties it all together.
Rich Davis
So sad. Brian Wilson Music legend of Beach Boys. 82 years old, passed away. So many great songs. God only knows.
Danny G
I think this is a top five song of all time.
Covino
Awesome.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Covino
Did you ever vibration see the movie Love and Mercy, the Brian Wilson Story. John Cusack played Brian.
Rich Davis
You know, I don't think I have, but maybe a good watch. Yeah.
Covino
I've got on your list to pay tribute.
Rich Davis
Kokomo. Wouldn't it be nice? California Girls, Barbara Ann. So many hits, so many great songs. Such a legendary artist. We say, rest in peace. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys again. Covino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio.
Danny G
When you bring up the Beach Boys, every time I think I hear, wouldn't it be nice, I think of 50 first dates with the Sandman, Drew Barrymore and Sean Astin.
Rich Davis
Oh, the Sandman.
Danny G
Oh, yeah. That was a good one. All right. Hey, listen, Danny, you said you have a tweet about the beginning of our show and then we got to talk about wasted talent before we get out of here.
Covino
Yeah, really quick. Before we get to our last topic. Socialtainments tweeted. He said, Danny, tell CNR they missed June 11, 1993. Jurassic park was also released on this date. So we opened the show today with four classic movies that were all released on this date. Ferris Bueller et Austin Powers, Napoleon Dynamite.
Danny G
What?
Covino
Where does Jurassic Park, Ring Horse have.
Rich Davis
A different color that changes everything?
Covino
Should have been a top five today, not a top four.
Danny G
Jurassic is two behind ET or maybe one for some.
Covino
Our listener here said that one is number one to me.
Rich Davis
It's definitely up there. Question. Especially when you put yourself in the mindset of seeing it for the first time. Right?
Sam
There's another Jurassic park movie coming out like in a week or like right now, right?
Danny G
Yeah. Those movies do so huge.
Rich Davis
Thank you for chiming in. Now, the saddest thing in the world. Talking about the sad loss of Brian Wilson and Sly Stone this week. The saddest thing in the world is what? Wasted talent. And if you don't believe me, maybe you believe, I don't know, Robert De Niro. Remember, the saddest thing in life is wasted talent.
Danny G
You could have all the talent in the world, but if you don't do the right thing, then nothing happens. But when you do, right, guess what?
Rich Davis
Good things happen. Are you listening? You listening, Calogero? That's a Bronx tale, a classic, and that's the biggest takeaway. It's the whole point of the movie. It's one of the best takeaways of the movie. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent. And when you think of sports, when you think of life, who comes to mind? Because we're here to say that there's a new poster boy in town for sure.
Danny G
Well, I don't think a poster boy. I think a guy that.
Rich Davis
Well, his talents being wasted rich.
Danny G
But you could look and say the trajectory is not good. Like, I think we're still too early because he's still so young, but Mr. Paul Skeens, Mr. Livy Dunn. Paul Skeens, one of the best young pitchers the game has seen in a while. The run support he's getting might even eclipse what I would call the Jacob deGrom treatment. Where. Remember when Jacob deGrom would win like 10 games for the Mets and his era would be one point something.
Rich Davis
He had zero right support.
Danny G
How many times deGrom would take the hill for the Mets? Seven innings, one run and get the loss.
Rich Davis
And look how it worked out for him. He eventually won with Texas and, you know, he's still doing his thing. Maybe he goes back to the Mets. Paul skeens has a 1.12 ERA in his last seven starts. 1.12 ERA in his last 7 starts. Starts. And he has one win to show for it in seven stars.
Danny G
I know you said the one win.
Rich Davis
That's a joke.
Danny G
He gave it away. But I'm not saying you gave it away in a bad way, but give me the ERA in the seven starts again.
Rich Davis
1.1, 1.1 and 7.12.
Danny G
Yeah, 1.12 and seven starts. Realistically, you gotta get five wins out of that. Yes, you could say.
Rich Davis
I would say so.
Covino
You could say maybe you would think six.
Danny G
You would say five to. I'm be. I was being casual by saying five. Six. If you said maybe one of those starts. The game was knotted up at one one in the sixth and he got pulled. Or five in the fifth inning. 1.12 ERA and seven starts and the guy comes away with one W. So.
Rich Davis
Is he winning in life? Is he getting paid? Is he with Livy done, Is he in the big leagues? Is his career trajectory on a great path? Yeah, because he's going to end up somewhere else just like the ground did. And he's probably going to win. That's great. And hopefully that's the Yankees for me. But as of now, all this effort is being wasted. They're not winning. As a result, he's not getting any wins. You know, he's getting a lot of strikeouts. And his ERA tells a different story. And that story tells that he plays for the weakest team, that's really it.
Danny G
You got to wonder, is he going to be there to stick around for a Pirates rebuild? Because I don't think they'll even do that. Bob Gibson, historically, by the way, in 1968 and 69, had nine losses and 13 losses with ERAs of 1.12 and 2.18. So that's a guy that would pitch the whole game, and the team wouldn't even do anything for him. So Bob Gibson, Jacob deGrom, they're saying Randy Johnson at times. So, hey, there you go.
Rich Davis
Let us know.
Danny G
All right, we'll see you guys tomorrow.
Rich Davis
Ariva Dashi, baby, see you in the promised land. This is an I Heart podcast.
