Jeremy Scott
I was becoming the bridge between Jeremy Scott and the son he'd never known.
Gilbert King
At the end of the day, I'm literally a son of a killer.

Covino
No way. Shohei. Before we get into Shohei Ohtani, what a ridiculous night. Everything from people waiting 12 hours for a bobblehead that they would have got anyway. Before we talk about the walk on.
Danny G
Are we sure about that, though? Was that ever confirmed that everyone got it?
Covino
You know, I'm sure people would be putting up a fuss if they didn't. I was saying, so we'll get to all that. But you wrote down the number 87799 on Fox.
Rich
Sure did. That's our number.
Covino
And as you wrote it down, you got me thinking on Throwback Thursday. What are some of the skills that you used to have that are just obsolete now? Because two things come to mind for me as you wrote that down. I feel like I was the wizard of memorizing everyone's phone number. Girls, I was dating everyone's friend, their parents, house. You were a mental Rolodex of phone numbers. And then you got your first smartphone and now you might not even know your girlfriend or wife's phone number.
Rich
That's why we encourage you. Get this, Fox Sports Radio Nation. We encourage everybody to use their brain because we're so quick to go to Google all the time or chatgpt for the answers, knowing that we have that information at our fingertips. We don't rely on our brain. And we're getting dumber by the day.
Covino
Not only are we getting dumber, we're missing out on fun conversations. I hate when our video guy spot says, oh, Google. Because I'm like, no, I asked youg recall. Yeah, I asked you because I'm, I don't know, having a conversation I could look up, you know, how many Cy Youngs Roger Clemens had, But guess what Sometimes it's fun to be like, yo, don't look it up. What do you think? Like, it's called using your damn brain. And I think we need to do a little more of that. But when it comes to skills that we may have had back in the day that maybe technology took over, like remembering a phone number. I recently was at a kid's birthday party with my little rugrats. And I don't think any of the other adults, I was embarrassed for them.
Rich
Oh, no.
Covino
They didn't know how to keep score in bowling.
Rich
That was a skill we all had growing up. We had no choice. Especially at the weak ass bowling alley I grew up at. I grew up in Union, New Jersey. This is a true story.
Covino
You put the little pencil in the ashtray and you had your little paper. You were right down the bowling score.
Rich
Huge part of my life. You know, my parents on bowled, they were in leagues. I grew up running around. I was in a league. I would go every weekend over here. Yeah, man. I'd go ste. Rake. I'd go bowling every weekend.
Covino
I go, is it labor awesome that I. I've had multiple bowling balls as a kid. Maybe you get your name engraved in it and you know the trick was a white crayon or yellow. Whatever. White. Whatever color. But if you did a white crayon and then waxed it off, oh, it looked mint.
Rich
Meaning if your name's engraved, it would get dirty and wear out over time. So you just refilled it in with the wax of the crayon. But anyway, yeah, I love Bolin. Shout out to Pete Weber and Dick. I'm a big bowling fan. And yeah, keeping score was just part of the skill set. And you would have that overhead projector and that weak ass paper they would give you because it wasn't always on. On regular paper. It was that. That projector paper.
Covino
Projector.
Danny G
Transparency.
Rich
Transparent paper.
Covino
You're right.
Rich
And I went to a bowling alley growing up. Highway bowl. And it was so weak, Sam, that there was a strip club connected to it. An all nudie strip club.
Danny G
Sounds like a bottle.
Covino
I was saying week. That sounds like.
Rich
Yeah, it was called hot taco.
Covino
Hold on.
Rich
Too.
Covino
Bowling alley. Strip club. Be sure where your fingers are going.
Danny G
Yeah, seriously, I'd be there all night.
Covino
I was gonna say that sounds like that's way better one than. What do they combine, like a KFC and a Taco Bell or something?
Danny G
Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.
Covino
Yeah.
Danny G
KFC and Pizza Hut.
Covino
That's a way better combo convenience.
Rich
But I'm not even kidding.
Covino
You.
Rich
Like, that was the scene. But, man, keeping score is what we did because we didn't have the. Obviously the monitors and all the computers that do it for you now.
Covino
And you could say the same. You always make the funny reference. Hey, if you're keeping score at home, announcers would say that because there would be people that would keep baseball score.
Rich
I mean, some people still do that at the game with the program.
Covino
Have you seen anyone buy a program? I've been to plenty of games over the last decade. The idea of that guy that speaks like he's from the 1920s. Program, get your program here. He puts on that accent.
Rich
Get your beer.
Covino
Programs. I mean, I would enjoy that as a kid, you'd write in the lineup, you'd get to the ballpark, you'd be like, all right, who's. Oh, all right. Lenny Dykstra's batting. He's leading off. You would write it in. You would keep score. You go to your kids Little League game now, they put the mom in charge with an app on their iPad, and people don't keep score anymore.
Iowa Sam
There's teams that don't even make programs any longer.
Rich
That's the.
Iowa Sam
Download it from the Internet. Because I asked a guy at Dodger Stadium, I'm like, how'd you even get that? He downloaded it.
Rich
So two forgotten sports skills. Keeping bowling score.
Covino
Get your program here.
Danny G
20 cents for a program.
Rich
A baseball card, you know, a baseball score, the scorecard. And how about this? I think you and I do this more than the average fellow. And I struggle rich, and I write a lot, but as I get older, I notice my handwriting is just for the birds. Dude, I can't even read my own handwriting at the time. So people that don't write as often as we do, you have to imagine they're forgetting how to write. And they're not even teaching kids cursive, really, anymore. And if you don't use it, you lose it. The Yankees actually did a bit on this recently, and they asked people to spell the Yankees in cursive. And these dudes didn't know how to do it. They didn't know how to do it. It's a lost art.
Covino
That's insane.
Rich
Yeah, they didn't know. They're like. They didn't know how to do it at all. But if time goes on, you're not writing anything really ever here and there. You're on your computer all the time or texting somebody. Your handwriting just gets worse and worse.
Covino
But, you know, there are some things that I usually tend to lean towards the newer technology, but again, our video guy spot, every so often he's like, want me to get you guys some like, touch screens that you could type on for your notes? And I'm like, no, I like to write my notes for the show.
Rich
I do.
Covino
It takes longer though.
Rich
Priorities change. And things change along the way. Like, you know, some people don't even know how to bend the brim of their hat because for years people weren't bending the brim of their hat. And that lost art became a thing. Now it's coming back. Give me that, I'll bend it for you. You think I don't know how to round out a brim of a hat or Rich didn't even know how to break in a glove. He's asking everyone around the office, how do you break in a glove? I'm like, you never broke a glove in the hell out of here.
Covino
That is not true.
Rich
That's not true.
Covino
That's not true.
Rich
What I said back. You know what, where's Warner Wolf? Back to the video tape. You were asking everyone that was willing to listen how to the best way to break into a baseball man.
Covino
Well, no, no, see, that's completely different than what you just said. I said, what's the best way? Because the last time I broke in a glove, I was rub, I was using rubber bands, oil, putting it under my mattress or like the recliner in the living room. Nowadays that you bring up to Dick's Sporting Good, they bring it in the back and put in some steaming machine and you know, there's shark tank items where kids are wrapping it with like, you know, a rubber glove of sorts. So I know how to do it. I'm just saying there's new ways to do everything. And I just bought my daughter a new glove and I, I was thinking like, do I go old school? Rub a little oil in that bad boy, put it under the couch. What do you do?
Rich
It depends what kind of glove you're getting. If you're getting a really high end glove, it's going to need some breaking in. But they make these soft leather gloves for these kids nowadays where they don't have to do that. We didn't have that option when we were kids.
Covino
I prefer that as a coach because all these little kids have little weak hands, high end gloves. If you're coaching like six and seven year olds, you need to give him those crappy, like almost plasticky gloves.
Rich
Because, you know, Rich, we're kind of coming off a little like high Brow here. Like, man, like, we don't do these things anymore. How could you be so dumb? You and I don't know how to really do a tie because we don't have to. We didn't grow up in a time where we had to do it all the time. Like, do you really know how to do it? It's like a lost art. I have to get someone else. I'd be like, dan Byer, can you do my tie for me?
Covino
If we went to a formal, if we went to a formal event, my. The knot of my tie would be so crappy that I probably would. I would be able to do it. But you know what I would likely do? I'd be like, yo, Dan, can you do my tie for me? And then he'd slip it out over his head and hand it to me like, I'm a schoolboy.
Rich
I actually saw Stephen a fixing mad Dog's tie on TV the other day.
Spot
I would actually saddle up behind you, you know? Yes, yes. Do it that way.
Rich
Come here.
Spot
Like, yes.
Danny G
Thanks, dad.
Spot
Bear hung around you.
Rich
Ah, that's so funny.
Danny G
Teach me how to shave, dad.
Rich
You know, I don't want to be like, oh, these generations today don't know how to take a bowling score. Rich and I barely know how. We don't know how to do our own oil because we don't have to.
Covino
Yeah, there's, there's skills like that. Like, anytime we have that conversation, my goodness, people will hate on me because I'm like, oh, I don't know how to change my own oil. Why would I have to? Most cars now, they don't recommend you do it yourself, and you don't have to change your oil every couple thousand miles. Like back in the day. Some cars, you could go, you know, years without changing your oil.
Rich
Yeah, we didn't grow up in that culture of tinkering with your car.
Covino
I guess this is where ADD radio gets you, because we're gonna get to Shohei in a second. I was just. I saw you writing down the phone number and it made me think that just one of those skills, like back in the day.
Rich
Well, it's not that I don't know.
Covino
I can name anyone involved.
Rich
You know, I like to visually have it here written down when I. When I shout it out.
Covino
You can name any one of your childhood friends and like, there's something about you that you still could probably shout out those kids phone numbers, yet you don't know anyone's number in this room except mine. Maybe because we've Known each other pre cell phones, pre smartphones.
Rich
Do you remember your original childhood phone number?
Covino
Of course.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
Sometimes I feel like one day I'm.
Rich
Calling up, see who answers.
Covino
I have a movie concept, Dan, where I call my childhood phone number and it's me. And it's like some sci fi, like time travel.
Rich
Rod Serling probably did that.
Covino
Hello? Yes, it's Rich. Yeah, hold on. Gary Carter's batting. What?
Rich
It's rich in 1986.
Covino
What's going on? And that's. It's like. I don't know if it's a comedy or a suspense thriller. I'm still working on it.
Spot
I'm an hour and 47 minutes.
Rich
I got minute one too late. It's a Black Mirror episode.
Danny G
Would there be a tear in the universe, as Doc Brown alludes to, I don't know, a time shift continuum in the paradox of the universe.
Covino
Hey, hold on.
Spot
Would it be called Landline? Would that be the movie Landline?
Iowa Sam
Yes.
Covino
Hey, wait, little Richie. Don't hang up. Yev, what's mom making? Oh, shake and baked pork chops. It's true. Must be you. Yeah, dude.
Rich
I mean.
Spot
And the Oscar goes to Landline.
Rich
Rich Davis. The truth is, the more Reliant.
Covino
Tie my tie the night of the.
Rich
Oscars, the more reliant we are on other people, on technology, the less, the more inept you become as a result. And that's just the fact we don't need to keep score anymore. We have a computer that does it. We don't need to remember things. We have a phone that does it.
Covino
And you know, the best example of that is. And we'll take a couple phone calls and again, we'll move on to baseball. But navigation, we are all severely like, you know, we. We. Our capacity to know where things are. Now, Camino, you've lived in California quite a while. You don't know where certain towns are because I don't either. I know this because you know why? Hey, Covino, we need you to go to this event in Santa Clarita. You'll be like, okay. Then you just pop it in your navigation and hope it's not that far.
Rich
I know that's outside the valley, just outside. You don't even know. So, again, yeah, I mean, things change. But I remember, I try to remember most phone numbers, Rich, back to the original thought. 87799 on Fox again. I hope you had a show. Hey, Showtime type of night. And my thought here is, again, that's what superstars do. This is greatness right in Front of us, a bona fide superstar. One could argue, and I don't think it's an argument, actually, if you're the one arguing. I just think you want to debate somebody and you're trying to be contrarian because he's the biggest star, the biggest star in sports by far. Right now. There is no debate. Especially when you factor in the international fame that he's got.
Covino
All right, hold on now.
Rich
There's no debate. Repeat that. Shohei Ohtani, especially after a walk off home run on his own bobblehead night. MVP bobblehead night is doing what superstars do. The flare for the impossible, the flare for the big moment. The guy hitting a walk off on his night, he proves over and over again that he's the biggest star in sports in the world, period.
Covino
Give me the biggest NBA star right now. Who would that be in your mind?
Rich
Biggest star in the world, right? LeBron James.
Covino
Just by name alone.
Iowa Sam
By name only. Yeah.
Rich
He's still playing. All right. LeBron James, the biggest star.
Covino
Biggest star.
Rich
Like he's. He's at the mall, the mall's closing down type of star.
Covino
Biggest star in the National Football League. Patrick Mahomes.
Rich
Yes, that's a fair answer. You know, you could debate these things, though. I think you could debate all of those things. You could debate that. No, it's Steph Curry. No, it's whatever. You cannot debate Shohei Ohtani. That's the point.
Covino
Biggest star in hot dog eating.
Rich
And that's why it's so great for baseball. You have a guy like Aaron Judge, who honestly is. His numbers are circus numbers. They're like Herman Munster numbers. Aaron Judge, every time he hits the ball, it goes 560ft. Yet Shohei is such a massive superstar, like Judge has to take a back seat to the superstardom of Shohei Ohtani. It's unbelievable. And you know the difference? Aaron Judge dropped the ball in the World Series. Yeah, unfortunately, Aaron Judge to redeem himself, he's Shohei Ohtani. Calm, cool, collected, walk off with a smile. Never a doubt. That's what superstars do.
Spot
And it's done without really any commercial push because there's a language barrier.
Rich
Yeah.
Spot
So it's not like he's in every commercial that you see. Like maybe Patrick Mahomes seemingly was for a while. LeBron will be special on HBO, this and that. He's here, there and everywhere. Commercials, movies, and it's all based on performance, which is pretty amazing.
Covino
Yeah, they're right. There's not. There's nothing.
Rich
And you know What DB you nailed it. Because what's his weakness? Dude could run, dude could throw. He's hitting box interpreters. Interpreters.
Covino
There's nothing. That's his kryptonite. There's nothing manufactured, nothing about the star that is Shohei Ohtani. That's a great point where everything is based on. And he's at that level purely his skill in the batter's box, on the mound, in. In every situation.
Rich
He's in rare company. Rich, I don't know if this is debatable. Ready? I don't know if anyone said this yet, but he is at the level of like a Michael Jordan. If not there already, he's getting there. The more and more we see moments like this. And here's why I say that I wasn't a Bulls fan, I'm not from Chicago. But every kid under the moon wanted to be like Mike. Every kid, if you like sports, had a Jordan poster. You were Michael Jordan's. Meaning he transcended city. He transcended rooting interest. He was just great. And we embrace greatness, right? So I think Shohei Ohtani is like on that level of like, it doesn't matter who you root for. I'm a Yankees fan. I'm embracing this dude and what he's doing every day because his greatness.
Covino
If the Dodgers win back to back series, which would be the third to win, which would be the first team to do it since the Yankees in the late 90s, if, you know it's been 25 years, if the Dodgers win back to back and Ohtani just has another bananas year where he goes 50, 50, you know, hitting 300 coming up in the postseason, I would put him in that level of Michael Jordan. I don't see why you won it. He's. It's like I feel like we're one big championship or one more, one more accomplishment.
Rich
He's internationally famous in every Latino country, in every Asian country in the United States. He's internationally known. Michael Jordan basketball wasn't big everywhere when he was big, so and again, but a worldwide brand eventually. But that's the difference with Shohei. I think we're really underestimating and undermining the greatness that we're witnessing. And petty reasons to root against them are going to be put aside. I don't want to see the Dodgers win. No offense, Danny G. But. But I do enjoy watching this guy.
Iowa Sam
He's so likable. And it's the same way that I always admitted even though my favorite NFL team is in the AFC West. I still liked Patrick Mahomes. He was likable. And Shohei's the same way. And the one thing that's already Jordanesque about Shohei is that it was awesome that he hit the walk off on his bobblehead night. But it was not surprising watching in the post Dodgers game show on Spectrum TV. They were saying 33 minutes ago, predicted Shohei was going to do it. But I think a lot of people watching were like, watch, watch. Shohei is going to win this. When it was tied up 5, 5 thanks to Max Muncie, a lot of us were like, okay, watch what Shohei is going to do. And that's what we expected of Michael Jordan too. We knew he was going to hit the game winner.
Rich
Because superstars, right, there are stars and then there's superstars. And we abuse the term superstars. We overuse it. Superstars rise to the occasion, right? And they live for that occasion. And Rich, there's like a science behind it where the moments slow down for these super. And I know you don't agree with what I'm about to say, but there's two other people that had this, this karaktaristic about them.
Covino
Don't ruin the conversation.
Rich
No, no, no. I'm not saying they're superstars, but they had this quality, okay? One of them is Big Papi. If you don't think he had the flair for the dramatic, you're out of your mind.
Covino
This is.
Rich
And the other one is Derek Jeter. Whether you like him or not, the dude had too many of those Shohei type moments where it wasn't coincidence. Like every time it mattered, the guy came through. And that's the difference. Shohei is one of those guys. That's why it was odd to see Patrick Mahomes fall so flat in the world in the super bowl. Because you wouldn't have expected that from him because you had him in superstar at a superstar level category. I think what we're seeing with Shohei is a once in a lifetime thing. I'm stating the obvious, Rich, because we, we already compared him to Babe Ruth. But I think his star is going to be bigger than Jordan's. He just needs a cool sneaker to accompany it.
Covino
International language barrier, yet still the biggest name in sports. Last night, the Shohei Ohtani bobblehead night, there were special limited edition. They were special ones where the bat was a different color and there are people now putting them up on ebay. I didn't know people still buy things on eBay. 900 to $1,000 for some of these.
Rich
I did recently, actually.
Covino
You put something on ebay? Yeah. What are you selling?
Rich
I have AN M Sport BMW, right? Yeah. And does that sound douchey?
Covino
Because 100%, that's what I'm.
Rich
I mean, what do I say? It explains my purchase, so there's no way to get around it. I guess I could have said I bought license plate covers and, like, caps for my tires, but they were specific for my M3.
Covino
Yeah, but they were.
Rich
They say M3 on it. I was going for the detail.
Covino
EBay. EBay, huh?
Rich
It's a 3 series. It's not a brag. Trust me. I want a nicer car. I'm working hard for it. Next contract.
Iowa Sam
You know, I got a Bentley keychain.
Rich
Recently from Amazon for my.
Covino
I just need the car for my Honda Civic.
Rich
Yeah, it was not meant to sound douchey at all.
Covino
Yeah. Guess what?
Rich
It really wasn't. But anyway, we're Kavino and Rich. That's Danny G. Super producing at 87799 on Fox. We got Iowa Sam on the ones and twos. DB's got your updates. But Rich, as Shohei continues to impress. And we here on the show say he's the biggest thing we've seen. Not since sliced bread. Since Michael Jordan. That's the truth. He is surpassing Jordan in my opinion. He just doesn't have a hit shoe yet that we are all jumping on. But he'll get there. I saw that espn, who doesn't even care about baseball like we do.
Covino
Yeah, how embarrassing that ESPN on their app, move baseball, like, down the.
Rich
Like.
Covino
Like below, like the wnba.
Rich
No, they had hot dog eating before baseball. Now, meanwhile, baseball is like the hottest thing going. It's ridiculous. But they ranked the top 100 MLB players. Now, Shohei, I'm saying biggest in sports. But do you want to know who they say the top 10 baseball players are? I thought it was interesting.
Covino
Can I see how many I could get? I'm going to just list off a few. I want to see if they're in top 10.
Rich
Yeah, yeah, go ahead. Ready? And I'm starting with the number one because it's so damn obvious.
Covino
Shohei Ohtani.
Rich
Shohei Ohtani's number one.
Covino
Number two.
Rich
Look, in a countdown, you usually start from number 10, but number one, Shohei.
Covino
You are no Casey Kasem or Spider Harrison. Starting with number one.
Rich
Coming in at number two, Spider Harrison.
Covino
How about just based on his performance yesterday and the hype, Paul Skeens, is he in the top 10? He's got to be. How about Ron Soto?
Rich
No, no. That's what's great about this.
Covino
Mookie Bets. No.
Rich
Beat it. Number two, coming in. Number two, Bobby Witt Jr. Dude, he's nasty. And he just might be. This might be his year. You see the plays this dude's making? Of course, I'm a Yankees fan, but you got to give your props to Bobby Witt Jr. Coming in, number three, Mookie bats. Dude, nice. And think about it. Just another flair for the dramatic athleticism. Just a big time player I can't argue. Weighs above 50 and he's a small dude.
Covino
Did you see what they posted on. I think I could say this. They posted the Mookie got hit by a pitch. Did you see this? And they're saying it's the zestiest hit by pitch ever. Like, he puts his back in.
Rich
That's so funny. Looks a little suspicious.
Covino
Hey, so Mookie Clear, superstar, ohtani, Bobby Wood, Jr. Judge, and Soto got to be next back, back to back.
Rich
And also take this, because we're basically glazing, as the kiddies say, Shohei Ohtani. But he is the best. In a time where there's so many great superstars, he still leaps and bounds. A bigger superstar than all these people.
Covino
Yeah.
Rich
So you got Shohei Witt Jr. Mookie Betts, number three, Aaron Judge at number four.
Covino
That's fair.
Rich
Skeens at number five, Jose Ramirez at.
Covino
Number six, Jose Ramirez over Juan Soto.
Rich
Jordan Alvarez at number seven, your boy Juan Soto at eight, which I loved because I was hoping he didn't make the top 10 at all.
Covino
Oh, that's good, because he likes when people. He likes doubters.
Rich
Yeah. But I was surprised they had him ranked so low. But, you know, whatever. At 9, Zach Wheeler, and at 10, Scubal. So that's your top 10 according to ESPN. What do they know?
Spot
I do also want to point out that Rich named three of those guys. And every time, Kavina goes, no, no, but you said skins, right? You had skins.
Covino
And he goes, no.
Spot
Sodo Bets.
Covino
No, no.
Spot
You're not even listening.
Covino
No, I nailed the list. You know what I would have got wrong, though? I was. I would have thought that based on reputation and big player. Bryce Harper. Huh? Not on the list.
Rich
Not in the top 10. According to ESPN. Lists are made to be discussed.
Covino
So call me crazy. I love Zach Wheeler. I think he's a great pitcher. Former New York Met, Philadelphia, Philly, But Zach Wheeler, top 10 player in the game, Cy Young candidate every year.
Rich
But Zach really They have Bryce harper at number 11. It's funny you say that.
Covino
I'm going to see.
Rich
And Freddie Freeman at number 12. So you listen to these names, guys. You realize, like, this is. This is the weakest.
Covino
Are you saying baseball renaissance?
Rich
I was going to give you the weakest analogy. Remember in the 90s when they called it the Disney Renaissance because Disney hadn't done diddly squat since Pinocchio until, like, Beauty and the Beast.
Covino
And then all of a sudden it.
Rich
Was Aladdin, Mermaid and everything else. Right? Baseball, as far as I see it hasn't done anything since. Since Derek Jeter, in my opinion. Now you got Freddie Freeman, Vladdy Jr, Gunner Henderson, Fernando, Tatis, Lindor. Like, the names are endless. And Shohei is still a star. A superstar amongst the stars.
Covino
No diggity no doubt it is.
Rich
It's the baseball renaissance. Enjoy it.
Covino
Enjoy it like you enjoyed Lion King and Little Mermaid, just like you enjoyed Pocahontas.
Jeremy Scott
Something unexpected happened after Jeremy Scott confessed to killing Michelle Schofield in Bone Valley Season one.
Rich
I just knew him as a kid.
Jeremy Scott
Long silent voices from his past came.
Gilbert King
Forward and he was just staring at me.
Jeremy Scott
And they had secrets of their own to share.
Gilbert King
Gilbert King I'm the son of Jeremy Lynn Scott.
Jeremy Scott
I was no longer just telling the story. I was part of it.
Gilbert King
Every time I hear about my dad, it's, oh, he's a killer. He's just straight evil.
Jeremy Scott
I was becoming the bridge between a killer and the son he'd never known.
Gilbert King
If the cops and everything would have done their job properly, my dad would have been in jail. I would have never existed.
Jeremy Scott

Covino
Don't doubt Jokic moving forward. We saw the great performance the other night, Danny. During the break, we were talking about how effortless he looks and we forget it was only a couple years ago the Nuggets won the NBA title and we're not including them in many of these conversations.
Iowa Sam
Yeah, I mentioned that. One of the other things that makes the greats, and a lot of them have this trait where it looks like they're not even trying as hard as the other players. Like it's just in their blood. Like you think back to the way Larry Bird just effortly used to shoot the ball. Same with Jordan with the game winners. And Shohei, the way he's up at the bat and he just swings effortlessly. And you could say the same thing for the joker. Brenda was watching that double overtime game with me the other night. And when he hit that clutch three, the way he shoots over his head, especially there, looks like he has no athleticism whatsoever. But the shots all go in and the way he just. The way. And it looks like he's just jokingly shooting the ball.
Covino
And now the big debate is Shaq or Jokic. That's the big social media debate. But one last thing on Ohtani, then we'll go old school. I think a layer of it is that while he isn't a guy you hear much from because of the language barrier, we're not hearing this guy do like charismatic pre and post game things. How charming. Like this might be. Like all. As the kids would say, this is like top level Riz. This guy's the rizzler with his bow to every opposing manager. Like, is there not something so charming when he has a smile and he. And he just does his little bow to the opposing team? Like there's such a class, charming, likability. Ohtani, biggest superstar in sports today.
Rich
He's outdoing himself. You know, every day there's something. It's crazy. A walk off on your own bobblehead night. Again, we're Cavino and Rich live from the tirerack.com studio. Remember, after the show our podcast goes up. So if you miss any of today's show, the show. Hey, Glazing. Be sure to listen to the podcast. We go live on fox Sports Radio's YouTube page little over an hour from now. But look at the clock. Let's do it. There's a search.
Covino
Yeah.
Gilbert King
What we gonna do right here is.
Rich
Go back into time.
Iowa Sam
Throwing it back for a Thursday old school when 50 hits at 50 after CNR give you the time capsule topic and we reminisce together.
Covino
Yeah, I love it. Little throwback action every Thursday. People love reminiscing. People love the old school because you're an old fool. And you know what? I was Sam, you inspired me. And I'll tell you why I wanted to talk about movie music today. Because it's National Movie Score Day and there's so many great songs and soundtracks that make movies. We'll get to that. But at the end of yesterday's show, I was. Sam was like, man, it's a bummer. We only spent, like a minute on.
Rich
Can I tell you what I did?
Covino
He said, we only spent a minute on a man that meant so much to us.
Rich
I know. You know? We had a heartfelt conversation about the late, great Val Kilmer. Rest in peace of 65. We're gonna honor him on old school and 50 hits. Think about movies with the best music scores and soundtrack. We're gonna take your phone calls next. But I was talking to Sam yesterday. Don't worry, Sam. I'm not gonna give any names. Sam's like, man, I didn't realize you were such a Val Kilmer guy. So cool that Covino and Rich, you guys got to interview him. What was it like? He meant so much to me. So Sam was really putting his heart out there. Like, man, I can go on all day on how many movies I love from Val. What's your favorite? And one of our colleagues long jumped and leaped right into the middle of this conversation, and he said, covino, those torpedo bats, am I right? You know, Sam dismissed him with great authority and said, hey, man, I'm trying to have a real serious conversation about Val Kilmer. He goes.
Covino
I swear to you, he goes, not.
Rich
To be rude, but this conversation could wait. I'm talking to Covino right now.
Danny G
And I was like.
Rich
I was like, who was it?
Covino
Who was it? Tell me, who was it?
Danny G
God, who was underscore approaches and he's like, hey, Kuvina, how about them torpedo bats? And I'm like, blank. We're talking about Val Kilmer here.
Rich
The guy in his handle.
Iowa Sam
I'm with.
Rich
No, he handled it with grace.
Danny G
So he wasn't like, I'm sorry.
Rich
He was, like, offended or anything. He just, like, you know, he's all right, whatever. But, man, Sam gave him the scramalama ding dong. We're talking here like adults.
Covino
We're talking.
Rich
It was wild to see, but I didn't. I didn't really.
Covino
I don't know.
Rich
I didn't know what to think of it, but. All right, we're gonna give you the proper time right now.
Covino
So Val Kilmer, movie music, a lot of fun. Next right here, Covino and Rich.
Rich
Val Kilmer passed away this week at 65. And we all knew that he was Beloved. And that he was a legend and a master of his craft. But I did not expect this sort of outcry from everybody.
Covino
Even Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise at Jim Carrey today, big cinema event. And he did a moment of silence for his pal Val Kilmer. So it's a big deal.
Rich
I was Sam, yesterday was telling me how touched he was, but you see it all over social media.
Covino
Not only was I with Sam, touched, you need to finish that story. I was Sam. And you were relating over your love of Val Kilmer.
Iowa Sam
Yeah.
Danny G
After the show yesterday, and one of.
Covino
Our co workers came in here and I was, Sam, I loved your enthusiasm during the break. Try to replicate what you told me, because I missed this moment.
Danny G
Well, me and Kavino were having, like. Cavino's usually pretty quick to get out the door. He's got stuff to do. So I was just trying to steal a quick 30 seconds with Steve and be like, man, I'm so. It's so cool that you got to interview Val Kilmer way back when and, you know, got to talk to him, and it's. I'm jealous. I'll never get to do that.
Covino
You know, he got to wear Val Kilmer's jacket.
Danny G
I saw that he was dressed like Don Johnson.
Covino
Yeah, he was wearing. He was wearing a white blazer, like.
Rich
A white linen blazer.
Covino
And Camino goes, sweet. Don Johnson jacket, Val Kilmer. And he goes, you want to try it on? And I was like, that's cool. He was like a fun guy when we.
Rich
He was cool and personable and humble. Like, he had a humility for such a superstar. That's the thing. So we're talking about that.
Covino
So.
Danny G
So we were looking at. You showed me a couple pictures, and we were just talking about Val Kilmer, and this coworker steps up, and I wanted to. I wanted to just ask you more about the interview. And so this guy just walks up and just. He says, hey, Covino, how about those Torpedo bats? And I'm like, yo, such and such, we're talking about Val Kimme. Maybe you can just come back. Like, I know that's not the same passion.
Covino
He dismissed.
Rich
He goes, I'm trying to have a moment here with Covino. And he goes, you could talk about this anytime with him.
Covino
Yes.
Rich
And he's like. And also he's like, talk to the hand. And he, like, dismissed.
Danny G
Well, I was just like. It was just so frankly, I. I thought about maybe apologizing after, but I'm like, what so. And so did was rude and didn't Read the room, read us. He acted like I wasn't even there. So that just immediately was like, knee jerk reaction. I'm like, yeah, we're talking Val Kilmer here.
Covino
Goodbye.
Danny G
Talk to the wall. Talk to the hands.
Rich
It doesn't warrant an apology. It's fun.
Danny G
Yeah. It's like, you know, you just got to do a better job of, like, when you approach, like, don't act like I'm not even there. That was a little bit.
Rich
We were in a rude conversation with a serious tone, and he was just like, Yankees. Am I right?
Spot
That's. I feel like this because of the weight of the conversation, that this may have happened other times previously when the conversation wasn't as heavy, but because it was heavy, it. Sam reached his boiling point that said, you know, all right, that's it. I got to put a stop to it. Like, today is the day I say something when this may have happened five other times. But you guys were talking about something more frivolous.
Rich
Plus, you know, Sam was. He was sort of emotional in the moment, talking about how much Val meant to him, and he was rattling off his favorite movies and everything. And that's what we're going to do right now because we didn't give Sam the proper time yesterday. He was so rudely interrupted. We're going to talk about your favorite Val Kilmer moments and also movies with the best music. Now, Doors comes to mind because it's about the Doors. Yeah, but Val Kilmer was Jim Morrison.
Covino
We're going to get to the movie scores in a second. But if you had to. Yeah, this weekend.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
Pick a Val Kilmer movie to watch in tribute. What would you. What would you go with? What would you go with? Pick one. Val Kilmer.
Iowa Sam
I already picked one for the weekend.
Rich
Let's hear it, Danny.
Iowa Sam
Tombstone.
Rich
I'm with you. I said Tombstone with a Tombstone.
Iowa Sam
One of my favorites.
Rich
I'm gonna watch Tombstone. Have some pizza. Let's go.
Iowa Sam
I get some. I don't know. I'd rather have anything but a Tombstone pizza. Yeah, they don't want to be negative about their pizza.
Rich
I like it.
Spot
Lay off. Medford, Wisconsin. Original.
Rich
I like it.
Spot
Although they sold it years ago and now Kraft has taken over Tombstone.
Iowa Sam
I'll go round table with some Tombstone movie.
Rich
I'm with you on that one because it's been a while. And he was like. I think that's what really separated him with everybody else.
Iowa Sam
His portrayal of Doc Holliday was amazing.
Rich
It really was.
Covino
You know, if you listen to Covino and Rich, it's obvious, right? When you tell Covino something, the more you try to encourage him, he resists. Right, Danny G. Like if you told Camino, come on, dude, do karaoke. He's never gonna do it. If you ask him twice, it's like.
Rich
Telling Canelo to fight Benavidez. I won't do it now.
Covino
I really won't do it. Yeah, it's. You are fuel. I fight whoever I want. It's the. As you said, not me. You always say you're the Mexican hard headedness of you.
Rich
I think it's the stubbornness. Yeah, it's just in the dn. Come on, Canelo, you gotta fight Benavidez. No, I won't.
Covino
Because you say so. That's why Covino's seen so many movies. He's a guy that's seen all, all the best. I'll give him props. He's a great, great guy when it comes to movies and tv. He's never seen Top Gun, Maverick. And I said, cavino, you got a great tv. Set up the Sonos Surround sound this weekend. It was fantastic. And I wasn't even a big Top Gun guy in the 80s. Like Top Gun in the 80s wasn't in my top 20 movies. But Maverick.
Iowa Sam
Really well done. That was a film especially waiting so many years for that sequel.
Covino
And you know what, it all sort of ties together because you know this song right here, the Top Gun theme that was done by Harold Faltermeier. You know what he also did? Didn't he do Axle F. From.
Iowa Sam
Yeah.
Covino
Beverly Hills?
Danny G
Some similarities there.
Rich
Oh, he did the. Yeah, Beverly Hills Cops Corps.
Covino
Yeah. So let's hear not only what Val Kilmer movie you would throw on in tribute, but since it is national score day, a couple guys come to mind from me, Alan Silvestri, of course, John Williams. If you've never seen the documentary on Apple tv, music by John Williams.
Iowa Sam
Oh, that's awesome.
Covino
You realize like this guy is the soundtrack to your life. I know it sounds. Some people may not be down with soundtrack. Not soundtracks, with music scores, they could make or break a movie. The right movie, the right sound just takes it to a different level.
Rich
Well, I'll kick it off. I'm with Danny G. My Val Kilmer movie of the weekend is Tombstone. My top three, a maverick.
Covino
Dude, you've seen Tombstone? Leave me alone now. I won't watch. Come on, do it.
Iowa Sam
By the way, I know we all hate homework, but if you're listening later in the future, future boy, you're gonna have to look these songs up. On YouTube because we're not legally allowed to play all this music on podcasts.
Covino
Sorry, podcast Future friends.
Rich
My top three movies with the best music. Now, this could be soundtracks or scores, okay? Because again, it's National Film Score Day, but we're not gonna be all particular about it. Soundtracks or scores? This one is encompasses both. Because Bill Conti created a masterpiece and it still had a great soundtrack. Moving forward in the franchise. I'm talking Rocky. Rocky, the soundtrack, it wouldn't be the same without this horn section. The gun of flying out. The inspiration. Yeah, he's on the steps. The kids are running with him. He's in Philadelphia. It's so powerful, dude. And then it stops on that still frame when he's just jumping up and down. Without the score, it's nothing. And then when you get into the franchise of Survivor and Eye of the Tiger and there's no easy way out, the soundtrack, incredible. So Rocky wouldn't be the same without the music.
Covino
If you're going to combine soundtracks and scores, Rocky is a tremendous answer. And by the way, when you talk about the kids running up the stairs, I believe that's the second one. So you're right. The music continues throughout all the movies. And even the Creed soundtrack takes pieces of Bill Conti's classic.
Rich
So Bill Conti song. And this was so big. It was a radio hit at the time. And the only lyrics are. Are really this part right here and gonna fly.
Danny G
Now, the bongos in this is very 70s, but it, like, gives it an extra layer of coolness.
Rich
It's so raw and dated and awesome and I love it. I love the scene. So Rocky, for me, then I'm gonna say.
Covino
Hold on, hold on. You should do this for real.
Rich
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Covino
Because no one would ever fact check you.
Rich
You just ruined my air guitar performance in that mean breakdown in the Gonna fly now.
Covino
I'm glad you said that.
Rich
Yeah. Gotta put the stank face on. No, 70 stank face.
Covino
I was gonna say no one got some 76 stank. No one would fact check you. You should tell people your dad was the bongo player.
Rich
Yeah, he was.
Covino
Big Steve. Oh, yeah. In the 70s. You know, he's a studio musician. You can make it all up. He plays the bongos. I'm gonna fly now. It's true.
Rich
And my next answer would be as far as music making the movie. It's a score. In fact, I'm going score. Full on score. Because it is national film score day. There's endless examples, but it's an earworm through My life, you know, I'm cleaning the house or I'm just walking around. I'm like, Indiana Jones, bro. Yeah, there's different scores for every scene.
Danny G
Temple of Doom.
Rich
Molaran has his own theme. You have the.
Danny G
You betrayed Shiva.
Rich
Oh, Kalima. You have the actual theme for Indiana Jones. You know what I mean, dad? It's just endlessly great and awesome and wouldn't be the same without the score for me. 80s magic. John Williams at his best. And I think the movie is only as great as it is because of the music that accompanied it. So Indiana Jones is my answer number two. And then I'm going more 80s magic, but childhood magic here for my third answer. This movie's so powerful and emotional, I can't watch it because I don't feel like crying. And it's the music that inspires you right here in the heart.
Iowa Sam
Pretty Woman.
Rich
When I see the heart. No, no, I'm talking E.T. the extraterrestrial.
Iowa Sam
Oh.
Rich
Because it's so magical. It's 80s magic. And you're riding your bicycle and you're flying through the air across the moon. And it's the music that gives you that. That feeling of, oh my God, this is incredible.
Danny G
Yeah, no, it's giving me chills right now.
Iowa Sam
This makes me reminisce to the drive in movie theater.
Rich
And not only that, like, there's music to accompany every scene. Like you remember the ride to it. Universal. You're sitting there in the forest. There's like forest music and you're like, oh my God.
Danny G
You know every, you know me.
Rich
Yeah. You know every score for every scene in that movie.
Covino
Okay.
Rich
All right, so those are my three.
Covino
I have my three now. By the way, great list.
Rich
Rocky, man. Rocky. I spread it out.
Covino
Indiana Jones and E.T. alright, now I'm going to play Penny. I'm going to play. I'm going to pay tribute to John Williams in a second. But there's another guy that gets shine. But so many of these are John Williams, Alan Silvestri. I have to just point out two of his big ones before I get to my top three. Alan Silvestri did Forrest Gump. And Forrest Gump. This is used not only in Forrest Gump, but every time there's a montage of movies.
Danny G
Yeah, it's definitely been stolen a couple times.
Covino
This is like the most majestic, like heartfelt theme song. And this is just the nice intro when he's on the bench with the feather.
Danny G
The feather floating through the air.
Covino
When this score kicks into the next part, there's so many levels of Forrest Gump.
Rich
Right here.
Covino
Here we go. Ready?
Rich
You know, this makes me think of. Too, like when you leave the DVD on, just keeps playing.
Iowa Sam
Yeah.
Danny G
Leg braces snapping off, and he starts to just bucket down that. That dirt road. Right. Isn't that one of the parts with this?
Covino
It's one of them. So Forrest Gump gets a shout. Alan Silvestri. And you said soundtracks. There was great music in this movie, but I don't think this next movie, I don't think it would be the same. Not without. Forget the great 80s music. Back to the Future, the title theme.
Rich
You know what? This is a double doozy. Like Rocky. Rich. Because it had the soundtrack and the score.
Iowa Sam
Yes, Rich, that's on my list, too.
Covino
Oh, I'm sorry.
Iowa Sam
No, it's all good. No, so good. That's why it's one of the most perfect films ever made ever.
Covino
I mean, Doc Emmett Brown, Marty McFly. This song, it really is perfect. It's.
Iowa Sam
And then think about Chuck Berry being played in the movie. Huey Lewis in the news.
Danny G
Of course, it's your cousin Marvin Barry.
Iowa Sam
That's the Power of Love.
Covino
And of course, the Penguins. Earth Angel. Classic, right?
Danny G
Oh, great soundtrack. Is this just John Williams Day? Is April 3, 2025 John Williams Day?
Covino
You know what?
Danny G
Because, I mean, the guy is just soundtrack after soundtrack.
Covino
I'm just gonna give you. I don't want to steal all the answers. Give you two more.
Iowa Sam
Okay.
Covino
I don't know. I mean, one of them is arguably the most impactful. This is not my personal favorite, but this song could very well have made the movie. That wasn't where I was going, but Star wars, everybody.
Iowa Sam
Which. You're not even a fan of that franchise.
Covino
I'm not really a fan of Star wars, but, I mean, you can't. You can't talk about movie soundtracks.
Iowa Sam
It's a big part of what made it so majestic.
Rich
Yeah. Powerful, man. It's amazing.
Covino
Now, the one that. The one that made the movie, it was a great movie, but I think without the soundtrack would not have been the same. And that's Jaws. That just. That simple.
Iowa Sam
Yeah.
Rich
And steals fear in you. Yeah.
Covino
I mean, John Williams. Two notes. Come on.
Danny G
He does eventually expand a little bit.
Covino
Yeah.
Danny G
No, no, no.
Rich
These are the notes. Oh, yeah. It's creepy. It's like, imagine if you heard these newts. What if you heard these notes in the dark water. You know how scary that would be?
Danny G
I'd probably soil myself.
Rich
I'd have a heart attack.
Covino
All right, I'm gonna go ahead Danny G. What you got, man?
Iowa Sam
Okay, I'm having bad flashbacks to that right there. All right, close your eyes really quick.
Danny G
Where's Roy Scheider when you need him?
Iowa Sam
Yeah. And I got this one queued up. Spotty.
Rich
The Natural.
Iowa Sam
Yes. Randy Newman.
Rich
I thought it was Randy Watson.
Iowa Sam
Dude. The final scene with that home run and his shirt has the blood on it and he's rounding the bases, the lights are exploding. Flies off into into the sky forever. And there was other great songs in that too. When Roy Hobbs strikes out the whammer. Lots of different scenes with lots of different great music from Randy Newman, who composed the music for the Natural.
Covino
Randy Newman did a lot of great music for movies.
Danny G
He deserves a respect too.
Rich
He's on the B team. He's not quite a John Williams, but he has composed a lot. Yeah, but that one right there, Toy Story. Oh, he did? Yeah. Okay. Randy Newman. Because you associate that the minute, the second you play that Danny G. I'm like, oh, hitting home runs into the lights.
Iowa Sam
Yeah.
Rich
It's like every kid's dream to this day.
Iowa Sam
And Kobe. And I'm not going to ask you to watch it because then you won't. But the world said the 2024 World Series doc. World Series. Docu series. That's on Apple TV. When they get to Freddie Freeman hitting his now infamous grand slam. This comes on as he hits the grand slam.
Rich
Barf.
Iowa Sam
It's awesome.
Rich
Double bar.
Covino
You know, if you want to give Randy Newman some shout out spot. I know you're quick on the punch. Randy Newman is talking to sports movies. I thought this was true and I was right. The mo. The song from Major League Cleveland Indians Burn on by Randy Newman. Remember the song that There's a Red Moon Rising. Like that song that played throughout. That was Randy Newman as well.
Rich
Okay, so yeah, he deserves mention on national film score day.
Covino
We all remember this from Major League.
Rich
Wait, so is that him singing?
Covino
Yeah.
Rich
Oh, no way. You're also saying you got a friend in me. Yeah, I'm putting that together.
Danny G
And short people. And I love la.
Rich
I love la. Big one. Oh, come on. He deserves way more of a than a nod.
Covino
Let me give you one more, then we'll go. The phones, they're hot. They're. They're lit. This. This is a holiday movie. But I'm going to go to the John Williams. I'm going to. I'm just going to stroke this guy. What are the kids. Hagen Blaze. I'm going to go.
Danny G
Careful now. Yo, I want to dump you.
Covino
Well, let me Tell you give him his flowers. Home alone. Without the John Williams score, I don't know if it would have been the same.
Jeremy Scott
Something unexpected happened after Jeremy Scott confessed to killing Michelle Schofield in Bone Valley season one.
Iowa Sam
I just knew him as a kid.
Jeremy Scott
Long, silent voices from his past came.
Gilbert King
Forward, and he was just staring at me.
Jeremy Scott
And they had secrets of. Of their own to share.
Gilbert King
Gilbert King I'm the son of Jeremy Lynn Scott.
Jeremy Scott
I was no longer just telling the story. I was part of it.
Gilbert King
Every time I hear about my dad is, oh, he's a killer. He's just straight evil.
Jeremy Scott
I was becoming the bridge between a killer and the son he'd never known.
Gilbert King
If the cops and everything would have done the job properly, my dad would have been in jail. I would have never existed.
Jeremy Scott
I never expected to find myself in this place. Now I need to tell you how I got here.
Gilbert King
At the end of the day, I'm literally a son of a killer.
Jeremy Scott
Bone Valley Season 2 Jeremy.
Rich
Jeremy, I want to tell you something.
Jeremy Scott

Covino
Tripp in Vegas. What's up, Tripp?
H
Gentlemen, Great show as always. Tombstone will be my Val Kilmer movie. I like Robin Williams better than John Williams. And then my two movies would be John Williams did Jurassic park. And then also. How about. You gotta love this one. Chariots of Fire.
Covino
Chariots of Fire is a great one, but Jurassic park fan tastic and any.
Rich
Running scene in any TV show or video game included the Chariots of Fire music.
Covino
A vacation with Chevy Chase and Russ running to Wally world.
Rich
Any, like I said, the video game, track and field, whatever involved running, whether it be a segment on a TV show. Yeah, it's. It's this.
Danny G
Wait for it.
Rich
But you have to do it in slow motion. This is synonymous with running now and forever.
Covino
Remember, he goes, russ, I'll race you. And the cymbals. Remember Chevy Chase put his arms up like so.
Danny G
This song is actually called Vangelis. Everyone knows it as the Chariots of Fire theme, but it's called van. Isn't Chariots of Fire just about like long distance running, Right?
Covino
I believe so.
Danny G
I don't think anybody's actually seen Chariots of Fire. Maybe our parents, but.
Rich
No, but I played track and field on Nintendo.
Danny G
Listen to. Listen to this.
Covino
It's majestic.
Rich
All Right, who do we got next, Pa?
Covino
What's up, Josh?
H
Hey, I'll be your huckleberry.
Rich
I'll be your huckleberry. Rich will be your dingleberry. Stop it.
Iowa Sam
I'll be.
I
I'll be putting on Heat this weekend. Criminally underrated movie about the criminal underworld.
H
Where he's more of a supporting role.
Covino
Yeah, it's a good one from Val Kilmer. Let's go.
Danny G
Wait, which one was it? The. What he just said.
Rich
He said he.
Covino
I think he said he.
Rich
Yeah, he said.
Danny G
Oh, he said he. Heat's great.
Covino
Marcel in la. What's up, Marcel?
H
What's up, guys? So, for Val Kilmer, I'm gonna go with the movie I got showed by my parents when I was a kid. It's the Ghost in the Darkness.
Rich
Yes, yes.
Danny G
Awesome movie.
H
Yeah, it's a great movie, but it's the true story, kind of. I believe. Because I believe those lines are in the museum. And then for soundtracks, I gotta go. Lord of the Rings. Any war scene in the movie, especially. You guys stole my Jurassic park one, so I'm gonna have to.
Covino
Yeah, Jurassic Park's a good one. And so many of these are Robin Williams. Not Robin Williams. You said John Williams or Alan Silvestri. So many of them. A Lord of the Rings. All right, Bruno, Brooklyn.
Rich
What's up? What's up, Bruno?
I
Gentlemen, gentlemen. Good afternoon. Hey, man, I'm sounding like a broken record here with. Everybody's talking about the same stuff, but the one thing I wanted to bring up real quick, when they made the Natural, I'm going to talk about Valve, but when they made the Natural, they shot the stadium scenes. I was going to college in Buffalo at the time, and we were actually extras in that movie up in the stands. It was great. I mean, it was pretty funky to be there. I mean, a long time ago, but I still remember it. They had cardboard cutouts for a lot of. A lot of the stands, but they actually had people. That being said back to Val, the reason why I like the Tombstone role and Doc Holliday is think about his characters up to then. He's a handsome cad. He always plays the stud, you know, Iceman, all these, you know, like, in Heat, he always plays the good looking tough guy. And then all of a sudden he shows up as deathly ill. Catching. One of the best scenes ever was when Ringo starts with him in the bar, spinning his guns, doing his thing. And then, you know, Doc just takes his cup and spins it around and spins it around and spins it around and completely deflates. Him. Fantastic role. The guy looked like he was gonna die at any minute. Phenomenal. Such a separation from who he normally was. That's for me. That's it for Val. As far as movies, you're gonna laugh at this one. Think about more modern soundtracks, but just like for rock and roll type stuff, you got to look at stuff like Goodfellows. Again, the score, not great, but all the good tunes that were not. Or Casino Again, those kind of crazy movies where the sound set, you know, think about, you know, those flicks where the tracks actually set the mood really, really well.
Rich
And Layla, the song Layla especially, I think of. Yeah, when it comes to Goodfellas, you know, certain soundtracks were must haves in your collection. That's Bruno the Wonder Boy, everybody. The wonder Bruno. And you know what? Speaking of Bruno, I. I thought we don't talk about Bruno. You got to give Lin Manuel Miranda some props as far as music movies. I mean, movies with music.
Covino
If you saw Moana 2 with your kids, you could realize that he wasn't part of it. The music lacked compared.
Rich
I mean, he's a modern day guy making an impact for sure. No, but, you know, when he has his fingers in on the action.
Covino
Kevin in Ohio. What's up, Kevin?
H
You guys are. You guys are just awesome.
Covino
Thanks, man.
H
For my movie, it's a moral imperative that we watch real genius.
Covino
Yes.
H
Chris Knight, the man. And then the movies, I'm gonna lump the Rockies together, if that's all right. Because between there's no Easy Way out and I have the Tiger, and of course, you know, the main Rocky theme, you can't go wrong there. But Lethal Weapon 4 ending on knocking on Heaven's Door, and then Axel Foley.
Covino
Axle F. That's a big one. Axle F. For sure.
Rich
Great call, man. Thank you, Kevin.
Covino
You demand, as always. The second one I even thought was entertaining. The Beverly Hills Cop, that just came out like a year ago. I have a sports one.
Rich
I thought you were a bigger fan of Beverly Hills Ninja. Isn't that true?
Covino
Great.
Danny G
I love Beverly Hills Ninja.
Rich
That's Chris Farley, right?
Covino
Chris Farley's trying out all the weapons. That was great.
Danny G
Like a Tarzan, Tarzan. Baltimore. Tarzan Boy. Maybe I could bounce back with that.
Covino
Hey, let me give you. Let me give you one. And then we'll go to DB for an update. Kavino's never seen this movie because, as he likes to say, if it was in the 90s, he was out getting booty while we were all sitting at home.
Rich
Well, yeah, I'm three years older than Rich. So he was picking his nose watching movies with mom and dad. Yeah, I was doing my thing.
Covino
I have told him plenty of times, dude, sit down with your daughter. The. The Mighty Ducks movies are great. And I realized, you know what? There's a great soundtrack to the Mighty Ducks. And you'll know the song when you replay it.
Rich
Oh yeah. Sounds quack taste.
Covino
It'll make you shed a tear. Gordon Bombay teaching those kids.
Iowa Sam
Who's the composer on this one?
Covino
The Flying V. David.
Danny G
New music composing conducted by David Newman.
Rich
David.
Danny G
So I don't know if any relations?
Iowa Sam
Randy's brother?
Danny G
Probably not.
Rich
Hey, you never know.
Danny G
Who knows.
Covino
Well, hey, on that note, let's go to our buddy and yours, Dan Byer for an update.
Spot
What up, DB what's going on, guys? Some news from the NFL today. Raiders quarterback Geno Smith getting an extension from the team, not much of a surprise. Seemed to be part of the deal when he was acquired by the Raiders from the Seattle Seahawks. Two year extension where the guaranteed 66 and a half million dollars Fox Sports NFL insider, Jordan Schultz says Smith's deal could be worth up to 85 and a half million dollars. The Arizona Cardinals made 10. And Trey McBride, the highest paid tight end in the NFL gets a four year extension worth 76 million dollars. While the Cowboys swung a deal. Backup quarterback Joe Milton of the Patriots, acquired by the Cowboys along with a seventh round pick. In exchange, New England gets a fifth round pick from Dallas, Iowa.
Rich
Sam just did the research and apparently David Newman is cousins with Randy Newman.
Covino
And the uncle is Alfred Newman of Mad magazine.
Danny G
Alfred Newman, the renowned film composer. Not the guy from Mad magazine, but.
Spot
Also Vangelis is the composer of Chariots of Fire. So it's not the name of the song.
Danny G
I'm sorry.
Rich
Sorry. Thank you, DB So hey, learn a little something today. Again, it is National Film Score Day.
Iowa Sam
Can you guys name this?
Covino
It's like Brian's Song or something.
Iowa Sam
No. Face paint, holding up a sword.
Covino
Gladiator. No, no, no, no. I'm not Gladiator.
Rich
Braveheart.
Covino
Braveheart. Freedom. It's a good one.
Rich
Once it got to the swell there, I knew it.
Iowa Sam
James Horner in the London Symphony. Yeah.
Rich
Hey, speaking of movies again, rest in peace, Val Kilmer. It is National Film Score Day. We honor him today throughout the weekend because you got to pick a movie to watch this weekend. I do want to say that today a legendary trailer came out. I say legendary because I didn't know what to expect and it made me laugh out loud. And that's not easy to do the Naked Gun trailer came out today. Did you see that?
Danny G
I saw it.
Rich
Yo. And at first, when they told. When I first heard they were gonna redo this movie, I was like, oh, come on, I'll do that. But you got Seth MacFarlane involved and he's handling it just right. Liam Neeson doing his thing. We laughed. And that dude, you know, the. I always forget his name. You know, Stingray from Cobra Kai, he's playing Chris Farley in his biopic. I always forget his real name. But he's also in the movie. It's called Walter Hauser. Yeah, yeah, him. He's also in this movie and it looks really funny. So when you're doing the bowl, scroll later on today.
Danny G
Paul Walter Hauser.
Rich
Paul Walter Hauser is also in it with Liam Neeson. And so in.
Covino
In Naked Gun, it was obviously Frank Drubbin.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
Norberg was oj. What was the big glute, Frank's partner? What was his name? The character? The guy that's like Frank Ted.
Danny G
He was. He was Dragline in.
Covino
Yeah, that guy in Cool Hand Luke.
Rich
Right.
Covino
So in the trailer you realize that Liam Neeson, this is not giving anything away. It's in the trailer. He's playing Frank Drubbin Jr. And Stingray, George Kennedy. George Kennedy, the character that plays Ed, Edd's kid is Paul Walterhauser is Stingray.
Rich
Stingray from Cobra Kai.
Covino
And Liam Neeson plays Leslie Nielsen's kid. And then they go to see who's playing OJ's kid and it's a young black actor and he's like, nah, it's really funny stuff.
Rich
So later on, check the trailer. It dropped today for Naked Gun. It's Naked Gun 4 and A. Because remember, it was 33, so now it's 4 and a quarter. So the reboot Law of toughness. Naked Gun is back. Is kind of funny. Speaker of movies comes out August 1st. Again, we're Covino and Rich. And since we're filling in for Colin tomorrow, Rich, tomorrow morning we're in for the herd. We're going to do this week's Pro of the Week. And the Express Pros Pro of the Week goes to. Who is it? Who is it? Big surprise. Shohei Ohtani. When you got Ohtani. Millions of people waiting for a bobblehead and then you hit a walk off home run on your MVP bobblehead day. In typical Shohei style, you deserve the Express Pro. Pro of the week. He's batting.333, three home runs, three RBI. And he's just A superstar. So props to him. Congrats to Shohei Ohtani for again having another moment last night and for being our express pros Pro of the week.
Covino
I feel like Ohtani is going to be the pro of the week many weeks though. Who I would have given it to, who remember former met now San Francisco Giant Wilmer Flores. Like a really, like a great clubhouse guy.
Rich
People love Will crying when he left the Mets. I remember that he was so happy to be with the Mets.
Covino
You know, he's the league leader in home. He's taught he's, I believe, second in home runs. Four in the first week. Wilmer Flores has four home runs in the first week of the Major League Baseball season.
Rich
So does Anthony Volpito.
Covino
Look at that. Well, hey, you know what else is going besides baseball and of course some great NBA tonight. We're going to talk Lakers, warriors in a second. But you got the last four. The last four teams. Ncaa, Florida, Auburn, Houston, Duke. Some would say, like where's the underdog? Some would say this is what it's supposed to be like. All your number ones. First time since. Oh wait, you have all four number ones. And if you go to DraftKings and you're trying to figure out what to do, I mean, do I. Is there really such thing as an underdog when it's four number one seeds but Duke is the biggest favorite. Duke is a 5 1/2 point favorite over Houston. Houston 34 and 4 this year. Houston is not, this is not an easy game for anyone. So maybe if you want to have some fun with it, go with the underdogs. Houston five and a half point underdog and Florida favored over Auburn, two and a half point favorite. So I, if you ask me, I feel like Houston might be the fun one there because I feel like everyone's like Duke's going to win the whole thing. Have some fun, Houston.
Rich
Why not?
Covino
You're getting five and a half points again.
Rich
All DraftKings sportsbook and speaking of basketball, big game tonight and it's not going to be blacked out, thankfully, because out here in la, it's hard to watch the Lakers. So Danny G said on TNT tonight, right? What are you expecting tonight, man, a dog fight?
Iowa Sam
Because this game is important for both teams, you know. Yeah, this, the west has not been this tight in years.
Rich
For fun. Tighter than Rich's jeans in the early 2000s.
Iowa Sam
Yeah, for fun. Later, look up Western Conference, NBA, and look how many teams are log jammed with the low 40s in the win column.
Covino
And you know what? Danny. That means that if a team finishes hot or cold, that could be the difference between like, like a 4 and 8 seed or like a 5 and a play in essentially.
Rich
So again tonight, the Golden State Warriors 44 and 31. Golden State warriors at the LA Lakers 46 and 29 TNT game. Definitely watch it because we'll be talking about it tomorrow. So a fun game to look forward to tonight.
Covino
And hold on one second. You know the 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, that's nuggets, golden State, T, Wolves, Clippers and grizzlies. Those are 1, 2, 3. Those six of your five year teams are within two games in the loss column.
Iowa Sam
Insane.
Rich
Yeah. Enjoy the game and enjoy your Thursday night. Start the weekend tonight and enjoy over promised episode 86. We start it in six minutes on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. That's our bonus show. We're talking Dodgers and people we don't forgive. I'm a little mad at somebody. You'll find out who on over promised got to forgive. Plus tomorrow we're in for Colin on the herd.
Covino
I will see you then. Until then, arrivederchi, baby.
Rich
See you in the over promised land. Let's go.
