Ho. Do you immediately think Hacksaw Jim Duggan or Thundercats?
Mark Seale
I think your mom. Good night, everybody.
Unknown
Yeah, good night.
Mark Seale
It's Fox Sports Radio.
Unknown
Oh, damn. That was kidding.
Mark Seale
Marianne's a great woman. You just set me up for that.
Unknown
That was a good one. I know I say ho, but I love Marianne.
Mark Seale
She is one of my favorite people. Again, we're Kavino and Rich. To be honest, I think Hacksaw Jim Duggan, the way you put the inflection.
Unknown
On it now, if I went, oh, that'd be more of a Thundercat.
Mark Seale
Thundercats are on the loose like Rich Davis. Remember to be sure to check out the fox Sports Radio YouTube channel. Search Fox Sports Radio on YouTube. I'm. I'm excited to watch this NBA game. Oh, yeah, last night, Danny, aside from.
Mark Seale
Tacos, I have a plan as to watch this game.
Unknown
I caught up last night on Love is Blind. Are you all caught up?
Yeah. Waiting for the next round. What is it? Friday?
Friday.
Mark Seale
You know what's interesting? Rich was such a bachelor boy back in the early 2000s. You skip out on Bachelor on a Monday night to watch Love is Blind? Goes to show you where the juice is at.
Unknown
Yeah, the Bachelor. Old news. Love is Blind uncensored. More wackos. There's a guy.
Mark Seale
Love is Blind. Got the juice.
Unknown
Not to spoil anything, but this dude.
Dave, such a weak ass with a sunburned face.
Dude, talk about the weakest dude. Maybe he's a nice guy. Hey, maybe he's listening now. We do have affiliates in Minneapolis. What's up? Weird Dave from Love is Blind.
Rich. His sister wouldn't like hearing this on the radio. Every. Every other word out of his mouth is, I don't know what my sister would think of this.
You care about what your siblings think?
Mark Seale
Yes. I mean, it depends what we're talking about. If it's like, do I care what they think about Steven and his spending habits? No, I don't care what they think. Do I care about their opinion on whether or not I'm a good person? Yeah.
Unknown
Not like who you're dating.
Mark Seale
Yeah.
Unknown
Then you wouldn't married your ex wife if that was the question.
Mark Seale
No, no, because you want them to get along, so it does matter. I can't say I don't care. Then again, they don't know what's necessarily, I should say, my style or my taste. Yeah, because the people they would choose for you are probably not the people you would choose.
Unknown
The way he talks about her though, it's like his manager.
Mark Seale
Oh, really?
Unknown
I gotta run this by my sister.
Mark Seale
That's weird. Yeah.
Unknown
Yeah.
Mark Seale
Well, I mean, everybody has different relationships.
Unknown
Not to go off the rails on Love is Blind because there's a really fun story in the world of sports and Hollywood that sort of ties together and has to do with greatness. I want to get to. But there's a really funny angle. Danny G. Camino's not watching. So let me throw it out there real quick. Don't you assume that before you met the woman you're with there was just other dude kicking it to her or she had a boyfriend before you?
Mark Seale
Yeah.
Unknown
You think it's the most lame.
Mark Seale
She looks like large Marge. Unless she. Unless she's a Sea Hag. Yeah, of course she had other guys before you.
Unknown
I'm fascinated. There's this dude on Love is Wine that she's so hung up on. Wait, before you went on the show, like you were talking to some dude?
Yeah, that was our first reaction to my wife and I, Richard. The difference here though is the guy that she hooked up with is in his circle of friends, so he knows who the guy is.
Like an ancillary guy.
Yeah, but still, like if, like if Camino, if you know too much, you.
Went on a dating show and you know, clean slate. But it was like, wait, before you entered the pods, used to date Danny G. Yeah.
Mark Seale
I think that's a game changer because, like, I know Danny G. So I know she has bad judgment. No, but there's girls that I've dated and then I realized they hooked up with Rich. And I'm, like, off the market. I, like, not interested anymore. For real. So I understand that.
Unknown
Can't compete.
Mark Seale
No, just like, again, bad judgment.
Unknown
Yeah. And he doesn't want to have to take penicillin.
Mark Seale
Exactly. I don't know what she's got now.
Unknown
Well, hey, love is blind. Good time filler to wait for things like tonight. Lakers, Mavericks. We'll get to that.
Mark Seale
Well, I could tie your love is blind thing into an actual conversation that we had planned out. And that is. Life is a competition. It really is. You could pretend like it's not. But we're all trying to be our best selves. And we're all keeping up with the Kardashians. We're all trying to, you know, be our best. To be the best. I look at it this way. I approach life from a sports background, from a sports mentality. Meaning you're trying to be great, you're trying to do your best. Are we all going to be the next Michael Jordan? Are we all going to be the next Michael Phelps? The answer is no. So when you realize you can't do that, whatever it is you end up doing, you still try to bring that mentality to your workplace. At least that's how I approach things in life. Right. And again, sports mentality. I grew up as a kid playing sports. It didn't pan out the way I thought it would. You know, every kid wants to be a baseball player.
Unknown
Listen, dude, I get it. I'm the winningest coach on Fox Sports Radio.
Mark Seale
That's true. So again, you approach everything in life the same way. At least that's how I feel.
Unknown
I teach the little kids, you gotta learn how to win the right way, but also lose the right way.
Mark Seale
And my point is, even on a show like Love is Blind or the Bachelor or whatever stupid game show you're on, you're bringing your best and you're trying to beat out everybody. Love is a battlefield. It's the game of love.
Unknown
Did you make that up?
Mark Seale
I did, I think, yeah. But, yeah, the game of life is a competition in a lot of ways, which is why.
Unknown
But there's.
Mark Seale
There's plenty of room for everybody to win, though, Rich.
Unknown
Which is why this Timothee Chalamet story, who, by the way, as we've learned in the last couple months, is a huge sports fan and a knowledgeable one.
Mark Seale
At that, especially college football. Yeah, college sports seems to be his thing.
Unknown
And a Raiders fan. He was rocking an old school Raider jacket in Paris.
Mark Seale
He's.
Unknown
He's a Raiders guy. And he's good pals with Mad Dog Russo. So we know what Timothee Chalamet is made of. He's a guy that loves sports, but he just happens to be a pretty damn good actor. And he won a SAG award the other night. I know you like it when they sag a little bit. When he wins the SAG award, he gives a speech.
Mark Seale
I should win a SAG award.
Unknown
He gives a speech. That rubs some people the wrong way.
Mark Seale
I thought it was awesome. Again, maybe because I'm a sports fan and I understand a sports mentality, competitive mentality. Why do people like to pretend like you are competing? In a lot of ways. Guess what? Everybody listening right now at work or coming back from work, everybody's trying to take your job. If you're somewhere high up there, they want your job. They might not admit it. They might not wish any harm in your life. It might not be a direct reflection of how they feel about you, but if you're getting paid more, they want your job. It's very competitive. No, but it's a competitive world that we live in. If, again, you have a sports mentality, and you already said it, Timothee Chalamet is a kid who loves his sports, probably played all sorts of sports growing up, realized he's a little weenie and said, you know what? I'm never going to make it in professional sports. But I got this mentality and mindset, and I'm going to use it in this field of acting, in this new career that I've found.
Unknown
Not to reiterate what you said, but think about that when pursuing a woman you care about, when you're going for that job you want. If you are a kid that grew up playing sports and you have that mentality built into you, that's how a lot of us view life. Take a listen to Chalamet's speech.
Timothée Chalamet
I can't downplay the significance of this award because it means the most to me. And I know we're in a subjective business, but the truth is, I'm really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don't usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I'm inspired by the greats. I'm inspired by the greats here tonight. I'm as inspired by Daniel Day Lewis, Marlon Brando and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps. And I want to be up there. So I'm deeply grateful to that.
Mark Seale
This.
Timothée Chalamet
This doesn't signify that, but it's a Little more fuel. It's a little more ammo to keep.
Mark Seale
Going, I think, on a pursuit for greatness. How cool is that? You would think that everybody applauded that speech because it was off the cuff. And it wasn't the kiss ass speech you normally hear to the Academy or to the people the SAG Awards or my fellow actors who I want to kiss your ass and everybody with a kiss ass stroke fest. He's like, yo, I'm trying to beat all your asses here. I'm trying to be the best. I'm not playing games. I'm here to win now. And I think that's so cool, dude. And refreshing. Yet he's getting backlash for that.
Unknown
Now the only rub is that art is subjective.
Mark Seale
Then why are they giving away out awards, Rich. Okay, so don't give me that hogwash. Don't give me a subjective when you're giving out awards. It's an award show. He wanted to win. I commend him for being honest here and saying, no, I wanted to be all your weak asses. A complete unknown. He won for that the Bob Dylan story. SAG Awards. Now we're heading into the Oscars this weekend and again, the story's becoming a bit of a thing because they're like, we don't like his attitude toward, you know, the Academy and his competitive nature. He's saying, I want to be the Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps of what I do. And I think everybody should have that same approach or whatever it is they do.
Unknown
Well, with all due respect, the people chirping the loudest on the other side are like a lot of these cackling women on, like the View in these roundtable shows. What show did you find this on?
Mark Seale
Oh, well, this has gone viral too, but this is just one of many clips and one that aggravated me the most. It's from the Social. I don't even know what that is. Melissa goes on a rant about how offended she is by what Chalamet said about wanting to be great in his pursuit of greatness. I don't want to knock anybody's hustle, but, Timothy, that should have stayed in your journal, my friends.
Unknown
Not even funny, number one. What are they laughing at? Unfunny Timothy.
Mark Seale
You know, there's like inside thoughts and outside thoughts and he just blurted it out and I just thought to myself, you little brat.
Unknown
Really? Hold on, pause. Are people holding up left signs? Yeah, must be. There must be like a button, like a Laugh Studio track.
Mark Seale
I'm sure there's a light that Says applause.
Unknown
Hey, Sam, I'm gonna point to you every time I want you to play. That wrecked him. Damn near killed him.
Mark Seale
My dad always used to say that joke.
Unknown
So to me, criticizing someone's pursuit of greatness, whether it's in the arts, in sports, as an accountant, as a doctor, as a scientist, like, aren't we all pursuing greatness and trying to be the best we could be? Like, how could you criticize this dude getting up there who comes from a sports background who said, listen, I admire the greats. You inspire me. I want to. The way Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps are great. I want to be that in acting.
Mark Seale
And she says, do you love me? And she says, no, but that's a real nice ski mask. Little delay on that flaptrack there. Is it because I'm Mexican? It's andale.
Unknown
Oh, yeah, that's andale.
Mark Seale
Andale. On a taco Tuesday. Now continue with this nonsense that this woman on the social spits about. Chalamet. Sam. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Unknown
Let's pick it up.
Mark Seale
Because she has a problem with his pursuit of greatness.
Unknown
Pick it up, pick it up, pick it up.
Mark Seale
If my daughter up there went up there and said something like that, like, to quote one Kendrick Lamar, be humble. Here's the thing with acting. It's not like a sport where you can rack up numbers, you know, oh, I've got so many wins, and I'm the best, and I'm the next Michael Jordan. I'm the next Tiger Woods.
Unknown
It's not like that in art.
Mark Seale
Art. Guess what? Guess who determines if you're great? Your audience. Not you. Then stop giving out awards, you idiots. I don't understand that. Yes, art is subjective. We could all agree, right? I could look at something, think it's the stupidest thing ever. Other people put high value on it because it's subjective. It's art. Then stop giving out awards if you're gonna give out awards. I don't blame Timothy. Shalom. Chalamela. Ding dong. No.
Unknown
As Adam Sandler would call him.
Mark Seale
Oh, yes, a Timothy Chalamet. You can't blame him for wanting to win. I love that he's a winner. I love his attitude. I think we should all take a little piece of that competitive edge to whatever it is we do, especially on today. You know what today's the anniversary of?
Unknown
Today.
Mark Seale
Today is the anniversary of. I'll reenact you ready?
Unknown
I'm the greatest of all time. I'm the greatest today.
Mark Seale
Who said that they were the greatest of all time? That baller his mama called him Cassius. I'ma call him Cassius. No, not Pete Weber.
Unknown
Today's the day.
Mark Seale
Cassius Clay, even though he's a great. Who do you think you are?
Unknown
I am. Cassius Clay on this day, beat Sonny Liston. And it was Muhammad Ali's first heavyweight title and the greatest. So Timothy Chalamet. Timothy Chalamet, who's fantastic. I think he's a great young actor. I'll tell you where he won me over. No joke. I was on a flight and never would I have thought to watch Wonka.
Mark Seale
Same. And I was like, I never liked the original.
Unknown
You know what? I'm like, I'm on a flight, it's free, on Delta or American, whatever. I was flying and I said, I'll watch it. And I'm like, this kid's great.
Mark Seale
Same. I felt the same exact way. He. He had me at hello. He had me at Wonka. And here's the question. Based on that, you got this kid who's really refreshing. He's going up there like a bro, saying, yeah, I'm here to, like, you know, kick everyone's ass. I'm here to be one of the greats. I want everybody in this stupid academy to know I'm here for victory and I'm here to win. I want to be up there with Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, with all the greats in acting. I want to be considered a great. I think that's awesome. I love that. Even more about the dude, when someone says stuff like that, again, it's Fox Sports Radio. Do you embrace it or do you let it rub you the wrong way? Like, should other be other people be saying those things about you? That was the criticism that Ricky Henderson got many, many years ago when he broke Lou Brock's record. Ricky Henderson was on. He was on second base, right? He stand. He grabs the bass. He steals that one, too. He holds it up in the air and he's like, and today I'm the greatest of all time. And he was, because he was the record holder. But he got a lot of criticism for that, too. Like, hey, man, let someone else pat you on the back and toot your horn. Well, you should be tooting your own.
Unknown
I'll. I'll pat Timothy Chalamet on the back for a. Being a knowledgeable sports fan, for being a hell of an actor. And he's dating Kylie Jenner, who's quite.
Mark Seale
The look, major problem.
Unknown
So Timothy Chalamet. Yeremi Cham gets some props from Covino and Rich here on Fox Sports. Radio, the pursuit of greatness. There's nothing wrong. There's never anything wrong.
Mark Seale
I think you could be humble and express that you're out for greatness all at the same time. DB Your thoughts on this.
Questlove
I will readily admit that I want your job. Like, I'm not. Like, I'm. But I say that in the most respectful way, being in this business of having my show or my name on the show in that window. Like, yeah, I think that's what we. I don't want to say we all do, because I don't know. But that's. That's my.
Mark Seale
That's the refreshing honesty that we're getting here from his speech, though. Best we can do a Sam's job. Dan. Sorry.
Questlove
Ceiling is the roof.
Unknown
Is that.
Mark Seale
No, no, no.
Unknown
Is going to plant drugs on you at the next.
Questlove
Already done. Already done.
Mark Seale
Rich and I have a Patreon show, too, that we do every day. And I forget where. I'm pretty sure the conversation came up there, but we. We went on some sort of mission about. Like, you assume people know what you're after or know what you want, whether it be in relationships, that hot woman that you know, that job opening. Like, you assume that people know what you're after, but not necessarily. You need to make it clear sometimes. I want that job. Hey, I want to be with you. I like you. I want to spend time with you. You need to let people know. How many times do you hear that people say, oh, I didn't know.
Unknown
How many times have you seen a woman? Well, in a rom com.
Mark Seale
Oh, my God, I would have never known.
Unknown
You've always had a crush on me. Like, you should have told her. And to back up with Dan Byer said, dan, the job's yours. Because guess what? We want Dan Patrick's job when he retires.
Questlove
Yeah.
Unknown
I mean, to say that no one has their eye on a prize is ridiculous.
Mark Seale
And he's saying, my eye is on being the best. I'm picking out great roles so that I could be considered one of the grests, the best in act.
Unknown
Breast.
Mark Seale
I was thinking of his girlfriend.
Unknown
That's why I was Samuel. Play the Timothy Chalamet speech one more time because he references the greats in movies and then he compares it to some sports figures.
Timothée Chalamet
I can't downplay the significance of this award because it means the most to me. And I know we're in a subjective business.
Unknown
Say he even said that, but the.
Timothée Chalamet
Truth is, I'm really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don't Usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I'm inspired by the greats. I'm inspired by the greats here tonight. I'm as inspired by Daniel Day Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps. And I want to be up there. So I'm deeply grateful to that. This doesn't signify that, but it's a little more fuel. It's a little more ammo to keep going.
Mark Seale
By the way, you think anybody that we admire in entertainment or sports, you think any of these people didn't have the same exact mentality? You think it just happened because they were swell fellas?
Unknown
What is it?
Mark Seale
No, they were after greatness.
Unknown
Who does everyone sweat? Our generation sweats two basketball players more than anyone. Michael Jordan, who he learned in the Last dance, is a psychopath. And Kobe Bryant Mamba mentality like, cutthroat. I'll kill you. Like, so you look at some of the greats. I. This makes me love Timothy Chalamet.
Mark Seale
Me too.
Unknown
You got a number one super fan, Timothy Chalamet? Because I like the honesty.
Mark Seale
It's honest. Number one super fan.
Unknown
You're his number.
Rich just said he was.
Mark Seale
No, I'm number one. He's number two.
Questlove
I want to be his number one super fan. Like, I'm letting.
Unknown
I'm letting everybody know Rich already took the spot.
No, you know what? You can have it, because sometimes the number two is better than the number one.
Mark Seale
Oh, well, yeah, that is true. Especially after their Taco Tuesday. Guys, your thoughts? Because I think it's gross. Here's what I think. I think it's gross. I don't know this person from the social. So it's nothing personal.
Unknown
Yeah, she's probably a sweet lady, but.
Mark Seale
She'S also a person that is speaking. Speaking on behalf of a lot of people, though. A lot of people that are like, art subjective. Where's his humility? This is not how, you know, entertainers should react. In fact, the whole, like, premise of this speech is like, wow, Chalamet really stepped out of the norm here with this speech.
Questlove
You know who she's talking to, though? And I don't know who it is. I don't know the show. She's talking to the other women who are at the table. Meaning, like, I don't want to be in your chair. But you know darn well on the view of the American version, there's somebody that wants to be in Whoopi's chair.
Mark Seale
Exactly right.
Questlove
But this is her trying to cover up with her three friends there of like.
Mark Seale
But we really got to get off this Dan where, like, you know, where we're pretending to not want to bring and be our best because you're just raising a bunch of lame o lazy kids where we should be preaching exactly what Chalamet saying right there. Like, I have a teenage daughter. You think I want to show her what this woman's saying? Or do I want to show her what Shalom. No. Go after greatness and be the best that you could be.
Unknown
The end. And we'll take your feedback next. If you want to chime in. 87799 on Fox. A true winning mentality from.
Mark Seale
It's a sports mentality, Rich. It really is. And that's what's separating him from the other nerds in Hollywood.
Unknown
What's interesting is that all these kids audition against each other. Isn't that the competition of all competitions?
Mark Seale
You would think so, right?
Unknown
Trust me. You audition for a big movie role.
Mark Seale
That's.
Unknown
That's. That's.
Mark Seale
Are they not competing?
Unknown
Auditioning for what? A bunch of fraud Academy award level movie is the same. Is trying to make a starting rotation in baseball. It is the elite competition. Good luck.
Mark Seale
Like I always said, man, love is a battlefield. Everything you do in life, everything competitive no matter what. My daughter's a big nerd. For real. She's a cute kid. She's a cheerleader. She's not like a typical nerd like some people I know growing up.
Unknown
Why did you just look at I was Sam.
Mark Seale
He said that. I did not. My point is, even in the world of smarts and academics, you should see how competitive these kids are with their grades. My daughter has a 4.0. I'm like, that's not good enough. These kids are so competitive. And they even talk down to kids who they think are lesser than when it comes to their smarts. We, growing up with sports, always competitive. When you have that competitive mindset, it trinkles down. Trinkles trickles. Whatever. Trinkle.
Unknown
I'll go with Trinkle.
Mark Seale
I like trinkling into whatever it is you do moving forward. So again, I said it before when I realized I wasn't playing shortstop for the Yankees only because they had Jeter. My next step was broadcasting.
Unknown
He had it covered.
Mark Seale
And so I was like, all right, I get it. Whatever I did moving forward, I heard.
Unknown
It wasn't you because you didn't want to shave your goatee in the 90s.
Mark Seale
No, but, dude, it's true. That is true. Actually, I Forget who said this. Let's just say my grandma for fun, my Tita. Whatever it is you do in life, if you're mopping floors at McDonald's, you bring your best, and you become the best. You bring that competitive mentality to the forefront so that you could be the best. And Timothee Chalamet is a sports fan. I believe he's done that in the world of acting. In fact, he admitted it when he received a SAG award, and it rubbed all these nerdy arts people the wrong way. Yeah.
Unknown
One last time, take a listen to Chalamet Academy.
I'm as inspired by Daniel Day Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I'm deeply grateful to that.
Mark Seale
This.
Timothée Chalamet
This doesn't signify that, but it's a little more fuel. It's a little more ammo to keep going.
Mark Seale
Hell yeah. And I hope he wins the Academy Award this weekend.
Unknown
And by the way, you don't think that same mindset applies to Taylor Swift or Kendrick Lamar or Dave Grill or.
Mark Seale
They're after it. You got to be after. And that's the mentality that everybody needs to have that and that we need to preach to our kids, not the BS backlash that the kid's getting. Because the point is, he's getting a lot of backlash from that. Because art's subjective. No, everything's competitive. Let's go to the phones and see what you think about it, because I really commend what he said and Rich is saying. Rich said it before. He really won everybody over.
Unknown
I love this mentality because I originally saw the headline like, oh, Chalamet fumbles his speech. And I'm like, fumbles nails it, you losers.
Mark Seale
Exactly. It's so backwards. We need to fix it.
Unknown
Don in Kansas. What's up, man? Kavino and Rich.
Ken
Hey, thanks for having me on. I've got five boys. The four oldest are athletes. The youngest one's an actor. They're all competitive. They all. They all want to be successful. They're all successful just because the ones. The actor, he wants to have as the kids Say his flowers. He wants to have his recognition. The thing that I find interesting is two things. This lady that's making the comment on whatever show, she's interested in having her viewpoint heard by as many people as possible. She's not saying, hey, I want to stay on this little show and be a little part of this little show. She wants it to be big. And this is a room full of people whose egos, some of whom can't be contained in that room, who would die to be giving this award.
Unknown
So, dude, you're so right. You talk about a roundtable show of, you know, like a women roundtable show. You don't think they all want to have huge ratings, like Beat the View or something?
Mark Seale
Exactly. And again, you know, art subjective. Then why are they at an award show? I don't get that. It's so contradictory and hypocritical. Back to the phones and thanks, man. I appreciate that call. I appreciate it.
Unknown
And speaking of competition, Covino and the, quote, Mamba mentality that Matt wants to.
Mark Seale
Talk about, we should all have the Mamba mentality.
Unknown
I see it, but with the little kids, I just started coaching T ball. I've been coaching my daughter for a couple years, but now I'm coaching my son. One of the dads goes, you'll see real quick that the minute one or two of the boys start picking something up, they, at five years old are like, well, I can't let little Justin do it if I can't do it. And they get competitive at that age.
Mark Seale
And that's the best way to do it. And I love that, that mindset too. Well, if this guy can do it, I could do it.
Unknown
That's how I got into radio.
Mark Seale
I. I know.
Unknown
I went to the college radio station and there was a guy on the Radio, Z89 in Syracuse, and I go, this is the guy on the radio.
Mark Seale
Well, if he could do it, he's.
Unknown
The guy doing it. I'll do it. Better sign me up.
Mark Seale
I want to learn, you know what it's called? To the eye of the Tiger.
Unknown
Remember Rocky had it, lost it, got it back.
Mark Seale
Yeah. It's like, you gotta. You gotta applaud that. Not, like, make fun of somebody because they have it. Yeah, how backwards thinking is that?
Unknown
Tweenie mentality. Matt in SoCal, you're on with CNR. What's up, buddy?
Ken
Yo, Kovito and Rich again.
Unknown
What's up, bro?
Ken
Natural content backed by sincere bs. I told that Danny G. Dude, the last three weeks, you guys have killed it. Dude, the super bowl run.
Unknown
Thanks, bro.
Ken
You guys, you guys are filling in shows who can't create natural content. I mean, I, I, you guys, you guys have been nailing it.
Mark Seale
You know why, though? Seriously. I'm being serious. Eye of the tiger, dude. It sounds corny. Rising up back on the street sounds corny, but we're in it to win it. So when I hear a kid like that talking like that, it gets me fired. I'll be like, yeah, bring our hard.
Unknown
Hats to the pre show.
Real.
Mark Seale
We're trying to win, man. And I think everybody's trying to win. Don't be trying to shoot this guy down.
Unknown
So, Matt, any, any, any final thoughts, buddy?
Ken
No, I mean, like you said to me, there was humility. There's humility within the pursuit. Like, yes, he, he acknowledged the greats. And if you talk to, I mean, I've been lucky enough to talk to some pro athletes, and some of them who actually played with a guy like Kobe when he was younger, like, they're there, There is humility within their pursuit. Like, these guys know what they're going after, but they acknowledge the great ones in front of them. Like, that's part of the humility. And this. And Timothy did that. He acknowledged the current greats, but the bottom line to be that 1%, you gotta go after it, you gotta compete, and I think that's what you're doing.
Unknown
You talk about the Mamba mentality, and no matter what industry you're in. Danny G. I know you know the story. As a big Kobe fan, you have a tattoo, for God's sakes. Rest in peace. Kobe, one of the best. The story about how he went right at Paul Gasol in the Olympics, and it's like, yo, that's your boy. You ever hear LeBron and people tell that story where it's like, no, he's not going to. He's like, on the first play, I'm going to knock Casal on his ass.
Mark Seale
That's the best.
Unknown
That was, like, to me, that was elite competitive juices right there.
Ray and Petaluma.
Mark Seale
Petaluma. Yeah.
Unknown
It's right below Santa Rosa in Northern California.
Oh, good guy. Fieri's home turf. What's up, buddy?
Ken
What's up, guys? Hey, shout out Danny G. For Northern California. Local native. I was gonna say, you know who's got the winning mentality is the Doge. They are just taking names.
Unknown
Did you even. Did you email. Did you email your 5 reasons to keep your job yet? Jesus, man. You know that controversial, but that's very funny. It is funny, Danny. We're requiring that on our show, by the way. Now I want an email from everyone.
Mark Seale
I want five things you did last week, Sam on my desk.
Unknown
I'll do that at 8pm While I'm still here.
Otherwise you're fired. But you're not because I'll follow it up with a just kidding email.
Mark Seale
We were just trying to scare you. I love the Chalamet story. I like him even more and I think that anybody who's anyone worked hard to get there because they had that mentality. It didn't happen by accident.
Unknown
No doubt.
Mark Seale
Unless you're a hock to a girl.
Unknown
And she worked hard hawking and to him.
Mark Seale
Yes, there's exceptions to the rule, but.
Unknown
I mean come on, she hawked and.
To it all she's helping fostering pets right now.
I mean she imprisoned or. No. Whatever happened with that? No, she's good. Okay, let's go to damn buyer for an update. DB what's going on my friend?
Questlove
Guys, an end of an era in the WNBA expected but six time Olympic gold medalist Diana Taurasi announced her retirement from basketball 42 years of age. She spent all 20 years of her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury making the announcement announcement in Time magazine. One other basketball note to pass along. It's in the NBA tonight. It's the Lakers and Mavericks, 10:00 Eastern Time from LA as Luka Doncic faces his former team. Mavs forward Anthony Davis will not play in the game because of his adductor strain. NBA insider Chris Haynes says the Lakers will show a pregame video honoring Anthony Davis in his time with the Lakers.
Mark Seale
That's cool.
Questlove
Yeah, nice thing to do. I kind of feel they had to do it because if he didn't it would be pretty glaring. But it should be a fun atmosphere tonight.
Mark Seale

This is Leave the Gun, Take the Cannoli.
Unknown
The five families did not want us to shoot that picture.
Nathan King
Leave the Gun Take the Cannoli is based on my co host Mark's best selling book of the same title. And on this show we call upon his years of research to help unpack the story behind the Godfather's birth. From start to finish, this is really.
Mark Seale
The first interview I've done in bed.
Nathan King
We sift through innumerable account.
Mark Seale
35 pages isn't very much.
Nathan King
Many of them conflicting.
Mark Seale
That's nonsense.
Nathan King
There were 60 pages and try to get to the truth of what really happened.
Mark Seale
And they said we're finished. This is over. It only is not going to work. You gotta get rid of those guys.
Colleen Witt
It's a disaster.

What if you ask two different people the same set of questions? Even if the questions are the same, our experiences can lead us to drastically different answers. I'm Minnie Driver, and I set out to explore this idea in my podcast, Mini Questions. Over the years, we've had some incredible guests. People like Courteney Cox, star of the infinitely beloved sitcom Friends, egot winner Viola Davis, and former prime minister of the UK Tony Blair. And now Mini Questions is returning for another season. We've asked an entirely new set of guests our seven questions, including Jane Lynch, Delaney Rowe, and Cord Jefferson. Each episode is a new person story with new lessons, new memories, and new connections to show us how we're both similar and unique. Listen to Mini questions on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Seven questions, limitless answers.

Ovinonerich. If you want to chime in on any of this, you know, let's take one last phone call from Steve O. In Stockton. We were just giving Timothy Chalamet props because.
Mark Seale
Wait, the Stevo.
Unknown
I don't know if it's that Steve.
Mark Seale
No way.
Unknown
Like the Steve O. That stapled his junk to his thigh. That's.
Colleen Witt
Hey.
Mark Seale
Hey, guys. That's me.
Unknown
Hey, me, Steve O. What's up, man?
Ken
What's up? Yeah, what's up? Hey, CNR Fox Sports News number one on my preset.
Mark Seale
Thank you.
Ken
Anyways, what I want to say is there's a commercial. I don't know if anybody touched up by Gatorade. It came out about a year and a half ago. It's. Am I a bad person? And it has. It has LeBron going up in the air. It has a Garnett hitting the sideline. It has Kobe doing his thing, Serena doing her thing. It's in all of us, like some cool blue Gatorade.
Unknown
Yeah, people like. It's so odd that outside of sports, like, we shy away from, like, this competitive vibe that we all have.
Mark Seale
I think you need, you need. And there's plenty of room for everybody to win. You know, where people are competitive, but the people that aren't trying aren't winning. I promise you.
Unknown
Damn dating shows.
Mark Seale
I mean, catamaran racing. We got that. I'm enthralled by this.
Unknown
I'm so competitive. I want to point out, don't have Fox Sports or Fox News as your number one preset. Fox Sports Radio.
Yeah, maybe he thought I was Clay.
Mark Seale
Travisable, but thank you, man. Maybe appreciate you.
Unknown
Maybe he thought Covino was Glenn Beck because he had that hairline. Thank you.
Yes.
Mark Seale
Thank you, Steve O. And real quick, before we move on Shador Sanders, we really haven't touched on it, but, you know, I heard the promo there before, and to me, it's always interesting. I do think that he should have been there just because. Right. I just do.
Unknown
You're talking about the combine.
Mark Seale
He should have been at the combine just because. But it's also funny at the same time to pretend like we don't know how he throws. Like, we didn't watch him for the past few years in college. Like, we didn't watch him play. We don't know his skill set to the point where we're so offended. Like, man, I had to see him throw there to really know.
Unknown
With an immense spotlight on him, by the way.
Mark Seale
Yeah, but in stupid drills. How about you got actual footage of him playing? Like, what gives you more of an idea of how the guy plays? Him actually playing these stupid drills? The level of importance that they put on it is ridiculous. The fact that he wasn't there. Okay. I'll give you that. Like, you know, you don't want to. What do you think you're better than me? I don't like that vibe of it. But to pretend like, man, we really need to see his skill set. You got plenty of footage.
Unknown
You know, I could see where people would say, what do you think you're better than me? Like, you know, people that back into their parking spots.
Mark Seale
Yeah.
Unknown
What do you think you're better than me?
Mark Seale
Yeah, you're better than me.
Unknown
Of course you would. Sam. You back into your spots.
Mark Seale
Only since I moved to la. I didn't do it in Iowa, I swear. Like, country pumpkin thing. People, though, they don't go away for summer vacation. They actually. Summer in Montauk. Yeah, I. Summer in Montauk. I'm sorry, you what?
Unknown
What?
Mark Seale
Do you think you're better than me?
Unknown
Yeah, summer in the Hamptons and I park backwards.
Mark Seale
What are you getting brunch? You think you're better than me because you're getting brunch?
Unknown
I mean, brunch is legit now.
Mark Seale
You think you're better than me?
Unknown
It's like breakfast food in the middle of the day.
Mark Seale
There is a vibe of he thinks he's better than you because he didn't go. However, don't pretend like he had to. Because you know what he's capable of.
Unknown
However I look at it this way, some things are not required for all. Cuz we're not all equal. We're equal in the eyes of like you all want to be treated with respect and the same rights, but on a football field, in a radio studio, in a TV studio, in an office, in a work, you know, in an oil patch, whatever the hell you do. Not everyone's equal. They're just not. Shador Sanders could say, listen, yeah.
Mark Seale
If we're having a big company meeting, is Dan Patrick there all the time? No. Cuz he's Dan Patrick. Yeah.
Unknown
Was Colin Cowell hurt at our, you know, sales lunch? No. Cause he doesn't have to be because guess what?
Mark Seale
Hey, that's life. That's what the people say. That's how it is.
Unknown
Like, don't. Why are we shocked? Like, should our Sanders. You. Like you said, you've seen his skill set. He's thinking like, yo, really? Cleveland Browns or Titans or. Yeah, bunk teams. You're in the.
Mark Seale
Are you really going to make any decisions on him based on what you saw by how he throws?
Unknown
He's also going to throw at the pro day. And I was reading this morning that he said he's just going to focus on his interviews with teams.
Mark Seale
Yeah, I mean, like, what do you.
Unknown
Hey, now I want you to roll, right? And throw.
Mark Seale
Like, come on, you got plenty of footage of that. If you really want the guy.
Unknown
Yeah. I mean, then you got to ask yourself, like, how bad do you want someone?
Mark Seale
Yeah.
Unknown
Someone once told me in our industry, I'm not saying we're hot shots, but someone said there's a time where you go from having a resume to a bio. You don't need to, you know, like.
Mark Seale
I'm working on my bio.
Unknown
Yeah. There comes a point where you don't need to be like, let me show you all my accolades. And this, it's like, yo, do you know who I am or not? And should our Sanders. I get what you're saying. Only a collegiate athlete, not there yet, but I don't need to see this guy rolling left and throwing 10 yards across his body. You've seen it or not. I don't mind when players don't show. I really, I don't care.
Mark Seale
All right, well, if you have a rap sheet, that's that work on your bio. Yeah. We got Shaq Diesel trivia next hour, giving away prizes here on the Covino and Rich show. Plus we still gotta talk about LeBron and Luka tonight. Yeah. Rock the stats and download our podcast.
Unknown
Let's do it.
Mark Seale
Get it for free. Search Kavino and Rich wherever you stream. And remember, over promised our bonus pod.
Unknown
If you've seen Topanga from Boy Meets World, there was like drama on her podcast. And Kavino's right. They said the phrase rock the stats like 50 times.
Mark Seale
We're trying to rock the stats.
Unknown
Rock the stats. Download the podcast.
Danny G. Oh man, I read about that little beef this morning.
I was less of a Topanga guy. I was more of a Kelly Kapowski guy.
Mark Seale
I was more of a you would.
Unknown
Morris.
Mark Seale
I was more of a Samantha Maseli kind of guy. Angela, Mona, Jonathan, Samantha. I was more Samantha.
Unknown
By the way, those girls and some guys that do podcasts now, what would they do with their lives right now if there was not a platform like podcasting?
You know, they all, some of them do well on podcast about the show they were watching.
That's what I'm saying.
Yeah, yeah, no, like I know that. I mean the office probably makes a ton of money in resistance behind the.
Scenes on a 30 year old show.
Mark Seale
But I think about all the great podcasts we missed out on as a result, like Kirk Cameron's and Gary Coleman's. Like I would have loved Webster's podcast.
Unknown
That's a great point. Covina, what would have been the juiciest podcast in the 80s or 90s?
Mark Seale
I would have loved to hear Philip Drummond's podcast when I met Arnold and Willis.
Unknown
You know what's a good one we missed? I, I bet you there would have been a good like Saved by the Bell podcast rerun.
Mark Seale
And Raj had a podcast that have been cool, man.
Unknown
Everyone's got a podcast. You know, in the, in the Sopranos heyday, like a weekly recap. There's a Sopranos one now, like looking back, the kids.
Mark Seale
Yeah. Jamie Lynn Sigler and the other whatever his name is, Robert Seiler. Yeah, they actually get a lot of props.
Unknown
They do great.
Mark Seale
They have a great chemistry together for sure. Yeah. So podcasts are like opinions. Everybody has one and most of them stink.
Unknown
Do you think Archie Bunker's podcast would have been racist?
Mark Seale
Oh, absolutely.
Unknown
Definitely. Uncensored. Yeah.
Mark Seale
So again, thank you guys for checking ours out and it's available again wherever you stream your podcast. Search Covino and Rich and Danny G. Puts a best of every day and there's a best of the week if you want to just check it out. So thank you guys again for being here. Lots of fun this hour. Shaq, Diesel, Whack Diesel, Trivia to get you all fired up for Lakers Mavs tonight, bro.
Unknown
My analogy stars when it comes to Luca and the Lakers stars, stars in any relationship or job, when someone insinuates you have a deficiency and that's why they cut things off. Like I said, dating, job, any situation, if you ever the opportunity to prove them wrong or throw it in their face. Luca right now was pretty much told, dude, you're a little soft and lazy and we don't think you got the long term ability to stay in shape essentially.
Mark Seale
I mean, there's no question. It's exactly what happened. That's why they got rid of him.
Unknown
That would be like some girl who had a dirtbag boyfriend that was like, yeah, you're chubby. And then she comes back with a rockin bod and was like, look at me now on like Jenny Jones or something. Luke is gonna. I, well, what is the over under? Let me look this up because I feel like there's a bet to be had.
Mark Seale
I bet going from zero to hero.
Unknown
Ricky Lake, I bet you on DraftKings, it's gotta be 30 something, right?
Mark Seale
You're gonna see the most motivated Luca ever as con. You. You said he had a Colin like analogy.
Unknown
Yeah, like he's.
Mark Seale
He did say something along the lines of, you're gonna see officially why this is the most awful trade ever. You're gonna see how awful this trade actually was. When he lights him up tonight and we were talking about bringing your best and being great, he's gonna remind everybody that he's one of the greats and he's gonna put on a show tonight. Oh, damn. And believe you me, when we do things like Radio row at Super Bowl, a lot of our former employers are there. You don't think that motivates Rich and I to be like, yo, let's bring our best and show them what they're missing. It's always great. Motor failure's a great motivator. Breakups are a great motivator. How many times you get dumped by a girl, you're at the gym and in your mind, at the back of your mind, you're like, you know, wait until they see me with the next hottie and my rockin bot.
Unknown
If you don't think that's what Luka is sort of feeling a little bit now, you're crazy. Of course he is. Like you just said every time. If you say, rich, when have you been in the best shape?
Mark Seale
When have you been the most motivated?
Unknown
Probably after some girl told me I stunk.
Mark Seale
Yeah, When Are you really trying to get that promotion or get ahead when you got dumped and dissed? Cause, you know, she left you for a guy with deeper pockets that motivated you. So you're going to see that Lucas Human, and he's just going to want to show you he's not pouting about it. He's going to show you tonight.
Unknown
Well, other people have my idea. So the over under is pretty steep. 31 and a half over, under. Luca points tonight. What do you think?
Yeah, we guessed 30.
Oh, man. Because, I mean, like, I'm going over.
Mark Seale
I think he'll light it up.
Unknown
What do you drop Saturday? 34.
Mark Seale
And by the way, everyone's going to be feeding him the ball so that he can light it up. You know, I just think that it's going to be his night. For obvious reasons. Mavs big men are out like they're just destined to be destroyed tonight. And their fans are going to be so sad about it.
J
Oh, man.
Unknown
Let me. Let me. Let me pull a couple things here.
32. He dropped 32 on Saturday, so Luke is averaging 28.
So it's not substantially more than his season average, but 28? 31 and a half. Could he drop 32? And the Lakers are favored by almost double digits. Lakers by nine.
Mark Seale
So it's the pettiest thought, but it's so true.
Unknown
Do you go Lakers? Lakers win by double digits. A Luca over 31. Like a parlay.
Mark Seale
Dominate them. And again, I think he's going to show them every reason why they should regret making that move. Like I said, it's a silly, petty motivation. I admit it.
Unknown
He's like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.
Mark Seale
Yeah, but when you got dumped or huge, if you've ever been dumped, there's a sense of satisfaction if you're able to make them feel in any way possible that they made a bad move and they regret it. And that's what he's going to do tonight.
Unknown
What's up, db?
Questlove
Here's my question. Who truly has the motivation tonight? Is it Luca against his former team, or is it the Mavericks team as a whole that has been told that they are significantly worse without Luka Doncic and no Anthony Davis?
Unknown
Aha.
Questlove
And who knows more about Luka Doncic than the Dallas Mavericks?
Unknown
To quote, coming to America, It's a good one.
Mark Seale
Shocked, though, if the Mavericks.
Unknown
You know why, though, Danny? Dan Biden makes a great point, because we talked about this at the super bowl, and we were trying to decide who's got more motivation for the three peat or for Jalen hurts to get there. And we made the argument that how could you judge? Like, everyone's going to be motivated. If you don't think the Dallas Mavericks locker room is like, yeah, let's shut everyone up.
Questlove
Sure. And it may maybe their time comes when the game's in Dallas, but I also think, like, when that game plays, like, I'm almost thinking that Luca would have the motivation when they go to Dallas just to have his homecoming and have the fans on his side. Very interesting. And I think that the betting lines make it so interesting tonight. I just said under earlier today, so that. That's. That was from where I came from. I can. I think both sides of the coin can be seen here, but I think that Dallas will at least be motivated. They also got blown up by the warriors on Sunday, so it hasn't been a great time for them. That maybe tonight they for some reason, just end up bringing.
Mark Seale
Well, the truth is, we don't know until it happens. And that's the beauty of sports. That's why it makes it so exciting to watch and see. You know, for all we know, Dan Byer could be completely right. We come back tomorrow. Like, yo, man, I can't believe that. Where was Luca last night?
Unknown
It would only surprise me because there was only one guy in that whole deal that was called fat, right? And Covino. When this first happened, you said, oh, my God, if that happened to me, I'd be on the treadmill that night.
Mark Seale
Dude, I was let go by my previous job. Every time I crack the mic here, I want to remind them that they made a mistake. Every girl that broke up with me, every day, I used that as motivation as, man, wait till I make my millions. I can't wait to post a picture of myself on a yacht and hope they regret it. Yeah, like, in the back of my mind, it's petty motivation. He has that. He has that, so. And that's why you're seeing him so fired up. You're seeing a fired up Luca. You're seeing the Lakers play great defense. All of a sudden, you're seeing them win. They're playing good ball. And that brings us to something else, too, that we haven't had time for in the past few days. Rich, before we do Shaq Diesel trivia, Wembanyama made a statement about how well he was asked, like, who's the most underrated player in the NBA?
Unknown
By the way, I got a plus 250 bet here. Can I just throw it at you?
Mark Seale
Sure.
Unknown
Plus 250 bet. 100 win 250. I got Luca 32 points or more. Lakers minus eight and a half in the game, and Lakers win the first half. So Lakers win the first half. Lakers win the game by eight and a half or more. By nine. And Luka 32 plus. You like that one? You bet.
Mark Seale
It makes it fun. Yeah, for sure. Let's lock in. I think he's lighted up tonight. But again, what Dan Byers said could very well be a possibility, and that's what makes it fun to watch. So when Binyama was asked who was the most underrated player in the NBA, and if you missed it, here's what he said about it. Whose game is most underrated in the league? I'm gonna go with.
Unknown
I'm gonna go with LeBron.
J
Underrated just means you're not rated at your right value.
Mark Seale
Right. I think LeBron's underrated, and I had people scratching their heads. But when you think about what he's doing at this age, even though he's very rated and everybody. I don't think there's a sports show in the nation that doesn't bring his name out like, once a show. Even though he's very rated. Would you say that's a fair assessment from Wembanyama? Because he's saying, yo, man, I still see some greatness and what a compliment coming from a young man at the top of his game.
Unknown
You could be very rated and still underrated. That. I don't think that's impossible.
Mark Seale
Yeah.
Unknown
I think there's NFL players, there's players in baseball, basketball, all sports, where you're like, no, no, they're respect, but I'm telling you, they're not respected even enough.
Mark Seale
The value he brings to a team, the leadership, you know, you got to factor the criticism that he gets, because he gets a lot of it. I think what Wembanyama said about LeBron speaks volumes. It's like, yo, here's a guy that's so rated, and we know that he's in a goat conversation 150 times a week still.
Unknown
When you. When you.
Mark Seale
But he's still underrated in his opinion. That's amazing.
Unknown
When you look at your own team, I think everyone could draw one name where it's like, I watch this guy day in and day out, he's underrated. Everyone has that guy in their own team. I'm saying on a bigger scale, LeBron James, because there's so many LeBron haters, and people like to kick him down and put him down, and he's not Michael Jordan, He's. He's not the goat. He's not this. He's. He's not even Kobe. He's not even Magic or bird. I think LeBron James. I said to Covino in the hallway yesterday, LeBron James. LeBron James.
Mark Seale
LeBron James.
Unknown
By the way, that kid's like 40. That kid's 40 now. That's how long LeBron's been dominating that kid. LeBron James, he's married with children. LeBron James. If somehow he's Ed O'Neill. If he wins the NBA title this year with Luca, that would mean two sh. Two championships at the Lakers, two at the Heat, and he took the Cleveland Cavaliers in the. In the greatest season where the warriors were had. Were the best team in NBA history and lost after being up 3:1. That would be five NBA titles for LeBron. I think you would argue he's over.
Mark Seale
He's underrated for what he's done for this long.
Unknown
I agree with you.
Mark Seale
I get what he's saying. I know it sounds crazy, but I totally get what he's saying.
Unknown
When we watch the Olympics last year, what did every superstar in the NBA say? Yeah, I don't get to play with LeBron every day. No one practices harder. No one has the work ethic. No one. No one brings to the table what LeBron James brings.
Mark Seale
It really has the respect of all the players in the league.
Unknown
No one has more respect from their peers than LeBron James.
Mark Seale
That speaks volumes, dude.
Unknown
LeBron never. You know how they always have those, like, those silent surveys, like, hey, most overrated player, most this, most that. LeBron James will never win. Most overrated. He is respected by his peers. Facts.
Mark Seale
And that was just an interesting story. That. What was that last week, or was it. Yeah, it was the end of last week. Right. And we just didn't have time for it. But speaking of the Lakers tonight, I think we're going to see why he said that. I think we're going to see a really great game tonight. I think we're going to see what the Lakers got. And, you know, there's so much hype that they could go all the way this year, man, and just like that, you know, like that, they're playing great defense.
Unknown
Like, whoa, you know, one guy who's a little under because the. The lakers are like 18 and 4 in this past stretch of the season. And so you got to give a lot of credit to JJ Redick. We haven't talked about him at all.
Mark Seale
And remember, I even heard Stephen A. Smith, who was very Critical of him. I might have been wrong.
J
I might have been wrong.
Unknown
Before the season started, Coach of the year, I remember dudes on our own network laughing at that, saying, this is a joke. And look at where they're at now. Where they at the third, fourth seed. They're. They're doing well. They got to keep this up going into the final stretch of the season here. But Austin Reeves, what a tear that guy has been on.
Mark Seale
Tearing it up.
Unknown
Yeah.
Mark Seale
And again, it's understated because who. Well, you see what the numbers he's putting up. But I'll go back to the JJ Reddick thing just for one second, though. You're right. The criticism that he got, it is worthy of. You got to take it back or apologize, podcast boy. Exactly. That's insane. And like you said, Reeves just.
Unknown
Yeah, the combination. And we saw in Denver, and hopefully they could keep that formula going. But the big three really have been LeBron Luca and Austin Reeves. So if those three can stay hot, this team can go far.
J
Coach of the year, J.J. redick.
Mark Seale
So, man, they're. They're firing on all cylinders, as the expression goes, at just the right time. And we're going to see it on the main stage, on a big stage tonight. Just more reason to Enjoy some tacos LeBron style on the Taco Tuesday.
Unknown
You know, it's. That's the coolest part about Austin Reeves. Austin Reeves, his cool headband, his corny, like, haircut. Well, these are all.
Mark Seale
I mean, keep going.
Unknown
His unassuming nature, his wristbands. Austin reeves, undrafted in 2021 when he broke on the scene. You remember those first couple games, Danny? We were doing a show together early on. This is like the early days of Kavino and Richard on Fox Sports Radio when he started coming into his own. There was almost a sense of, like, all right, is this. Is this, like, for real?
Mark Seale
Is this, like another Alex Caruso type of guy? You know, great white hope kind of guy you root for?
Unknown
Like, is he gonna be like, the guy off the bench? And it's like, oh, wow, he's become a key component.
Mark Seale
He's a. He's a star now.
Unknown
Good team.
And defensively, too. He's like, anytime he gets on the floor, he's a spark plug for the team.
Mark Seale
And what makes him great. Rich. You already said it. Is that he's unassuming. And I think that makes it more fun. That's why I loved Gennady Golovkin, Triple G, because he looked like a nerd who would beat your ass in the ring. You know, when someone's unassuming like that, it just makes it so much cooler. So major props to him. And we're going to see what the Lakers got tonight. Or are we going to see what the Mavs got? Can't wait.
Unknown
The one thing based on this conversation we just had, I gave LeBron all these props saying how great he is if he scores 45 and that that prevents me from winning my Luca over 30 point. Bet I'm gonna hate LeBron tomorrow. All right, we got more Kavit on Rich.

What if you ask two different people the same set of questions? Even if the questions are the same, our experiences can lead us to drastically different answers. I'm Minnie Driver and I set out to explore this idea in my podcast Mini Questions. Over the years, we have had some incredible guests. People like Courteney Cox, star of the infinitely beloved sitcom Friends, egot winner Viola Davis, and former Prime Minister of the UK Tony Blair. And now Mini Questions is returning for another season. We've asked an entirely new set of guests our seven questions, including Jane Lynch, Delaney Rowe and Cord Jefferson. Each episode is a new person story with new lessons, new memories and new connections to show us how we're both similar and unique. Listen to Mini questions on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Seven questions. Limitless answers.

All right, let's do this. It's time for Shaq Diesel trivia.
Whenever we say not to name drop.
Mark Seale
That means we're about to name drop.
Unknown
I'll name drop.
Mark Seale
Oh my goodness.
Unknown
Not only Are CNR with Tyson and Mahomes.
Mark Seale
Hey man, they're also buddies with the big Aristotle.
J
What's up? It's big Shaq Diesel. AKA Shaq Fu, AKA Shaq Daddy, AKA the Big Aristotle. Guess what? It's time to win some C in our prizes.
Mark Seale
Time for some basketball trivia.
Unknown
What he said.
J
I used to break bad boys. Now I'm breaking records for FSR Radio.

Unknown
All right, FSR security walking our broke Shaq Fu into the main studio.
J
Going for greatness. Everything. I do greatness. When I do a little shimmy. When I put on Icy Hot. What's your greatness?
Unknown
What's your prediction for the big game tonight?
J
Greatness. Luka Lakers greatness.
Unknown
Thank you, Shaq.
J
Can't wait.
Unknown
Give me a little shimmy Shackle.
J
Little shimmy.
Mark Seale
Shaq, should you go with the general and save some time?
J
You know, when I do that commercial, I bring the greatness. I'm here to win. I own companies trying to be the best.
Unknown
All right, let's. Let's meet the contestants. 10 time winner, Rich Davis right over there.
What's up Shaq?
Mark Seale
Hey, what's up?
Unknown
Four time winner, Spotty boy. Oh, big five today.
J
I thought that was Travis Kelsey Leader. By the way, he should retire.
Unknown
Leader in the clubhouse. 11 time winner, Dan Byer.
Questlove

Unknown
And looking to win a CNR stainless steel switch. Wiggy, let's go to the studio lines here. Ken in San Francisco.
What's going on, gentlemen? Yo, what's up man?
J
Hey, what's up, Ken?
Unknown
Ken, what do you do for.
Mark Seale
Not much.
Ken
I know.
Unknown
What do you do for a living there in the city?
Ken
I work in the restaurant industry.
Unknown
Cool.
Mark Seale
Some good restaurants up there. Big fan.
Ken
How about that?
J
Check this out.
Unknown

J
I had a restaurant LA live It shut down.
Unknown

J
I have a bunch.
Unknown
All right, here are the rules for Shaq Diesel trivia. The first contestant with two correct answers is the champ. If there's a tie, we have a tiebreaker question. Your name is your buzzer, but you do have to wait until all three possible answers are read. If there's two wrong answers in a row, we move on to the next question. Are you ready?
Mark Seale
Let's do it.
Unknown
Let's get it on.
J
Big Aristotle party started. Which NBA legend averaged a double double for 10 straight seasons in the 80s?
Unknown
Say that again.
J
A, Kevin McHale, B Cream, Abuel Jabbar or C, Larry Bird? Which NBA legend Average a double double. 10 straight seasons.
Unknown
Double double for a decade. Ken Kareem. No.
Oh, that would have been my guess. I'm gonna try to steal then.
Mark Seale
Rich. Rich the bird.
Unknown
Yes.
Mark Seale
Yeah, that would have been my guess.
Unknown
I thought maybe. Maybe rebounds and points for Kareem.
Kareem averaged around seven boards. The closest to this was Magic Johnson. He was a season or two behind Larry Bird.
J
All right, all right, round two.
Unknown
We move on to round number two so far. Rich on the board.
J
What was I once quoted saying about my basketball dominance? Hey, I'm like, tax, you're gonna pay one way or the other.
Mark Seale
Oh, I like that.
J
When I oppose my will, it's like Godzilla walking through a the city.
Unknown
Oh, oh.
J
Or see, only Jesus had a bigger shoe size.
Unknown
Rich Jesus shoe size.
For the steel.
Ken
Hey, hey.
Mark Seale
Yes.
Unknown
Oh, nice.
J
I'm like, tax.
Unknown
There you are.
J
You're gonna pay one way or the other and you're not gonna like it.
Unknown
Hopefully you pay your taxes.
Mark Seale
Check death taxes and shaxes. I've always said that size shoe to Jesus wear.
J
He wore sandals.
Unknown
All right, round three so far. On the board, Rich and Ken. As we move to round number three, Air Jesus.
J
Where was the great Steve Nash born? Steve Nash?
Unknown
Yeah.
J
A, Canada, B, South Africa or C, Australia?
Unknown
Dan Beyer.
Questlove
I think it's South Africa.
Unknown
You would think correctly.
Mark Seale
Yeah, there you go.
Unknown
Three way tie.
Beyer on the board. Yes. Johannesburg.
Mark Seale
Three ways.
J
Johannesburg.
Unknown
Yes.
Questlove
Johannesburg.
Unknown
All right, we go to round four in this three way time.
J
Speaking of our global game, who is the first player born outside the US to be drafted number one overall, A, Michael Thompson, B, Patrick Ewing. Or C, Yao Ming?
Mark Seale
Ken.
Unknown
Ken for the win.
Ken
Patrick Ewing.
Mark Seale
No.
Unknown
Damn fire.
Questlove
You know, spot talk.
Mark Seale
What were the options again?
Unknown
Oh, buyer. You want to give Spotty a chance there?
Questlove
Go ahead.
Unknown
No.
Mark Seale
Go for it. No, please.
Questlove
I thought it was Michael Thompson.
Unknown
Yes. Best buyer with the win. Bahamas blazers took him 1978.
Mark Seale
I already guess y.
Unknown
Of course he made his name with the Lakers. Clay's dad.
J
That's right, the Lakers, who are going to win tonight. But again, I don't know if they're gonna go all the way. You know why, Danny G. Why is that? No big man need a big man. Everybody needs a big man.
Unknown
Jackson Hayes has been looking okay lately.
J
Everybody needs a big.
Unknown
You're right, though. They probably could use one. One more big someone like me.
I'll give you an analogy, Shaq. Does anyone really have a big great man? Like in baseball, everyone's like, our team's rotation stinks I'm like, does anyone have a great rotation in 20, 25? You know, so I think they can do it without the big man.
Hey, Ken in San Francisco, we appreciate you playing the game. Game.
Ken
Hey, guys, thanks very much.
J
Hey, thank you.
Unknown
All right.
Mark Seale
All right.
J
Can I go home now?
Unknown
All right. Way to San Francisco. Go Niners.
J
I gotta. I gotta go home, watch the game.
Unknown
That is buyer's 12th win in Shaq.
J
Congratulations.
Questlove
Thanks, Shaq.
J
All right, guys. All right, guys. I'll see you guys next week.
Unknown
Speaking of.
J
Hey, Sam, you owe me $20.
Unknown
Later, Shaq.
Mark Seale
Later, Shaq's. Texas.
Unknown
Speaking of. Damn. Buyer with the win. Let's go to DB for an update. What's up, Dan?
Questlove
Don't mean to.
Mark Seale
Later, Shaq. Death in Shax. Hi, Shaq. Oh, sorry.
Questlove
That's all right. I just caught up thinking about Shaxx.
Mark Seale
Taxes, Shaxes.
Questlove
I don't know, Kavino, if you caught this, but Shaq had a restaurant that apparently closed down downtown. Yeah, I. His chicken franchise closed out by us. And I think they're completely separate. He has like a chicken. Yeah.
Mark Seale
He has so many.
Unknown
Yeah.
Mark Seale
He has his hands in a lot of adventures, you know, Like Papa John's pizza. Yeah.
Questlove
Those are disappearing by us too, but it's good, I'll tell you that. Tuscan cheese. Delicious.
Mark Seale
Garlic breadsticks from Papa John's Tuscan cheese.
Questlove
Love it. Very, very good. The Tuscan six cheese. It's delicious. Yeah. Recommended. Highly recommended. Colts GM Chris Ballard says there will be an open competition at quarterback next season that includes Anthony Richardson, who had been their season opening starter the first two years of his career. Chiefs GM Brett Ve. He believes center Travis Kelsey will be back for the 2025 season.
Unknown
Let's get to this O'Shea Jackson Jr. Story.
Mark Seale
Yeah. Real quick. Right quick. It's a two part doozy because O'Shea Jackson turned 34 yesterday. We ran out of time yesterday, so happy birthday to him and the Rock. His little French bulldog passed away. So it's a. It's a relevant story on two parts. Happy birthday, O'Shea Jackson, and our condolences to the Rock. This is about being starstruck. Take a listen. This is ice Cube's son, O'Shea Jackson Jr. On being starstruck. I'm in sixth grade. Word around the school spreads like wildfire. Shay, your dad's here. So I'm thinking, what did I do? Picking me up from school is grandma business. My dad's not doing this, dude. So I'm like, I'm. I can't Think of what I did. So when I get outside, he's outside in the nice car. Now we got family vehicles, four doors. But he's here in the two door. So this is the nice car. I get in the car, he drives all the way to Venice. Sit down at this restaurant. We're at a table that's bigger than it should be for two people. In walks my hero, the Rock. Jesus. And he just sits next to me. And him and my dad have a meeting over lunch. And I am starstruck beyond belief. I can't get any words to come out of my mouth as a kid. The memories I have from it is, I got a cheeseburger, he got a cheeseburger. I got a root beer, he got a Diet Coke. Thought that was weird. Wasn't really feeling that.
Unknown
Wanted caffeine, but he didn't want the sugar.
Mark Seale
My dad was like, dude, talk to him. Whose do you want him to kick? And I'm just like, I can't talk. He signed my shirt, took a picture, he paid for his meal. Lady came back for the change. He didn't take the change, just walked out. And I took his quarter and put it in my pocket and I put it in a sandwich bag and I still have it. You still got the quarter? Damn right.
Questlove
Where's the quarter at?
Mark Seale
I'll give it to my mom. She has it in her safe.
Unknown
The lucky quarter.
Mark Seale
Yeah, dude. Rock's quarter, bro.
Unknown
How old were you?
Mark Seale
12.
Unknown
Oh, so you're in the heat of loving wrestling.
Mark Seale
This is amazing. I went to the Scorpion King premiere.
Unknown
That's a Rock fan, guy.
That's a Rock fan.
Mark Seale
Yeah, I went to see the Mummy Returns twice. He's in the movie for five minutes. This was my dude, bro. So how cool is that? Like, those are the celebrity perks that you dream of having lunch with his dad and the Rock. But the point here is he was so starstruck, he couldn't think of anything to say to the dude. And he still has that quarter, which is great, because deep down inside, we're all a little 12 year old kid who remembers how we felt about our heroes. Seriously, that, you know, we all had heroes at 12 years old. That was his.
Unknown
When you, if you ever get the opportunity to meet someone that you would consider a hero, it really is. It is an awkward moment. I. One story comes to mind for me. The first super bowl that I ever went to cover was in Jacksonville, Florida, and I was in my 20s and across the room. This is before Covino and I were interviewing. I Guess athletes on the regular. This is like when we were sort of new to the athlete world.
Mark Seale
This is our first coverage of the Super Bowl. So this was big. Yeah.
Unknown
So they're like, yeah, you're going to have the opportunity to interview some legends I see across the room, Joe Montana, and to know me. I'm a Die Hard 49ers fan, and Joe Montana is the reason I wore 16 when I played sports. That's why my daughter wears 16, because she knows that's my favorite number. Like, I play Red 16. Denny, every time we go to Vegas. Right. It's my thing. Yep, Montana's my guy. As O'Shea said, this is my guy. I was like, what am I going to say when I finally meet Joe Montana? Would you believe the best I could come up with was, hey, Joe, I had your pajamas when I was a kid.
Mark Seale
I couldn't believe you said it. And you know what he said to him? He goes, I hope you don't still wear them because Richard's a grown man.
Unknown
He had a snappy comeback. We've met him a couple times since, but I remember always thinking back like, I wasn't a kid. I was 25, maybe.
Mark Seale
Yeah, because he'll always be your hero. So who was that for you? And who would you be starstruck to meet for me? That was Don Mattingly. And I'll tell you a story on another day. Let's just say I got. Got caught right next to him in traffic one time and I lost it.
Unknown
All right, have a great night. We'll see you tomorrow. Until then. Arriba. There, Chi baby.
