Covino
Happy New Year week 18 with is worthless. I'm going to talk about why this is the throwaway week. But there's ways to make money.
Rich
Oh, so you're saying we but there's ways to w e a a K18? I say absolutely no. Are there games with ramifications? Not many is it that week. We'll explain midweek Major. Like I said, is it annoying or awesome to have rich friends? There's a a funny story about Tom Brady we'll get to Aaron Rodgers is in the news. Lots of randomness but lots of fun here. It's what we do on the Cavino and Rich show. But again, happy New Year. Hope you enjoyed the the grassy knoll of the holidays. The space between that Dave Matthews sings about the space between the space between Christmas and New Year's.
Covino
I'll be honest, this is the year that sentiment jumped the shark. It used to be like a clever thing. Like you know that week between Christmas and New Year's and now every Tom, Dick and Harry and every rando hussie on Instagram and TikTok has a little selfie video. Like have you ever noticed the week between I know we all noticed it now it's not fun to talk about anymore.
Rich
Yeah, but people do forget what day it is. That is true. And we are full of cheese and carbs. So hey, back at the gym today. Back to the old grindstone. Happy New Year. A lot of people still lounging in lamping but we're here. And again, hope you enjoyed time with friends and family. And of course Nosferatu. I saw that in theaters. That was good. I make for you to like the Cavino enrich Nosferatu. Have you seen it or no?
Covino
No.
Rich
Oh man, it's great.
Covino
Is that the hot movie right now?
Rich
Are you serious? Yeah. Yeah, I think so. So enjoy your squid game twos, your college foosball, your Nosferatu's and of course the show 87799 on Fox. Let's go.
Covino
You know it's interesting because sometimes you wonder how that random old school pal of yours or a family member could be so out of the loop. I was away with My wife and kids for a couple days.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
And honestly, other than checking in on my Niners and Lions on Monday night just to see what's doing, I really didn't check much. And it's very easy to miss a lot in a day or so. So.
Rich
I mean, social media helps keep you posted if you have your phone in your hand.
Covino
No, but I'm saying if you are in the mindset of, yeah, I'm really just gonna be in the moment. I'm not gonna be scrolling for a day or so. You could see how that friend or family member gets out of the loop.
Rich
What'd you miss?
Covino
A lot of things. Like, even serious things. Like, I walked in here and someone's like, man, New Orleans. I'm like, wow, what happened?
Rich
Oh, yeah, and just the Trump Tower story that has gone viral.
Covino
All types of things.
Rich
Have you seen that or did you miss that?
Covino
I don't even know what you're talking about.
Rich
Come on.
Covino
I went to the gym.
Rich
Is this guy serious?
Covino
I went to the gym. I watched Texas Arizona State, which, by the way, Arizona State touchdown in overtime. Wow. You know, you know that.
Rich
So Arizona state up 31, 24 as we speak.
Covino
You know that, Burt. Auburn's like, no, no. Now they got a response.
Rich
Well, our job is to keep people posted, what's going on, and of course, all the nonsense. We're the worldwide leaders of nonsense. Did you miss out on Aaron Rodgers talking a lot of smack too? I know Danny G doesn't want to start with him. I know you've had it already with Aaron Rodgers. You've been had it with Aaron Rodgers.
Danny G
Can we push that to the podcast? Podcast only.
Covino
You know, I, I, I do want to say that the coolest name of 2024 that's clearly emerging now in the first day of 2025. Scatter.
Rich
Boo.
Covino
Arizona State. This, this kid's playing with some heart today, huh? He's been playing with hard all year, but that, that might be the coolest name in college sports.
Danny G
Yeah, he's a baller.
Rich
Well, same.
Covino
Vomiting on the sidelines, but asking for liquids like, I'm. Yo. He's, he's put it all out there today.
Rich
We'll keep you posted. You know, Rich, the gym is a good place to get caught up on things like that. That's what I do, honestly. That's where I do my prep. I get on the treadmill and I just start scrolling and reading through stories and just watching highlights. The games are on remote, right? So that's a great place to catch up or hear on Fox Sports Radio, Cavino and Rich. Now I say we kick it off. Since we're talking a little college foosball right now. We should talk about week 18.
Covino
We should.
Rich
Is it week 18 or week 18? Because Rich is really down about week 18 in the NFL and his question in our little pre show meeting was, is this something to even go to? Like would you go to the games or care about?
Covino
But let it be known that There's a big third and 10 right now. I know we're not allowed to do play by play, so we'll keep you in the loop. 3rd and 10 and I mean this is it for Texas, right? If they don't, if they don't convert, if they don't score a 30, Arizona State moves on, which would be a, I would say a pretty significant upset.
Rich
Oh, huge.
Spot
We haven't had a game this close yet. And play.
Covino
And that is not a long, oh boy, yardage play. We're looking about a 4th and 9, 4th and 8, something like that. Yeah, I will say we'll see what happens. We'll keep you in the loop. But as we see some really amazing college football with ramifications week 18, other than the Vikings, the game of the.
Rich
Year, that's like the game with the Most wins ever. Two superstar teams going head to head. Vikings, Lions, 14 and 2.
Covino
You mean one team that has the one seed a buy and that runs through their stadium. And the other teams, I think ever.
Rich
You know, coach of the year. Ramifications, seating ramifications for Texas, for.
Covino
Oh, and they call the play dead. False start.
Spot
Texas was almost a 2 touchdown favorite coming into this game.
Covino
She's 4th and 13 now. False start. Oh my goodness.
Spot
Arizona State was picked by the media and to finish last in the Big 12. So let's just put this.
Covino
So the fact that they, you know, the fact that they won their conference and now they're doing this is just, it's really a great ride for that fan base, that student section. They must love that.
Rich
You know what I noticed being at the gym today again, trying to get back into the mix for the new year, trying to keep those resolutions alive out here in Los Angeles. We're live in la, not a big football city. It just isn't.
Covino
Hold up, hold that thought. 4th and 13. This is for all the Chick Fil A nuggies. Hold up. Let's see. We got here play is it. Oh my God. Touchdown.
Rich
And just like that, by the way.
Covino
How do you let him slip through the secondary?
Rich
Open tutty golden for the Longhorns.
Sam
Hope they don't miss the extra point. Like they missed the field goal, by the way.
Covino
And look, y'all, that would be easy.
Danny G
There's a 28 yard CD that looked.
Rich
Way too easy for a game.
Covino
You weres hit him in stride like. Like the secondary, you know, was taking a little New Year's nap.
Rich
Yo, that looked that kicker, right?
Sam
This kicker right now.
Spot
This is go time for this guy.
Rich
For the guy obviously poopy in his.
Covino
Honestly, right now this kicker's got poopy pants.
Sam
He's got poopy pants.
Rich
It's business time.
Covino
No, he's got this chip shot. Extra point tied up 31 all tied up.
Rich
But what I did notice, Rich, is.
Covino
That I was hoping he missed that. That way we wouldn't have a distraction for the first 20 minutes of our show.
Rich
You think I can't get a sense out? This guy can't focus.
Covino
Also, the Rose bowl is just waiting.
Spot
To start and we have to wait till this game wraps up.
Rich
Yeah, but I don't blame you, dude, because what I was going to say is, for as much as we criticize LA for, I mean, you can go to the gym or the bar in LA and they don't have the football game. A lot of times they had the college game on. And I saw a lot of people glued to this at the gym, which is honestly refreshing that, you know, they care about something.
Covino
There's nothing more infuriating when you're at a bar or a gym and you have to be like, excuse me, could someone, I don't know put the game on?
Rich
Right? But you know, especially in the NFL, you're like, hey, does anyone care again here in Los Angeles? But I did see a lot of people glued to this game at the gym today. And we will keep you posted. I don't blame Rich. This is a nail biter for sure. But you know what? It's a great comparison in comparison to week 18. This has all the excitement right now.
Covino
Well, week 18, you got the big one out of the way. Lions, Vikings. Oh my.
Rich
Dude, lots of ramifications there. Game of the year. Going to be fun to watch. For sure. Now just.
Covino
Just because the one seed has one or five. I mean, it's one or five. And the difference of that is you get to chill at home. Everything goes through you. You have a buy versus all of a sudden you're a road dog wildcard, Remember?
Rich
Imagine having that record though, in your fifth seed.
Covino
It's happened a couple times in the Past. Not that good of a record.
Rich
Not that good.
Covino
Yeah, not that good of a record. But there have been 12 win teams that are like, man, I'm a wild card. There were some 12 and 4.
Rich
So you can't say week 18 doesn' the game though besides aside from that. So we have to play hypotheticals. Aside from that game. This is a really weak week where we're getting announcements of, you know, Mahomes isn't playing, Barkley's not playing. People aren't playing. These games are kind of lame. So Rich said in our pre show meeting, like do you even care? Like is there reason to care? Well, we're going to give you reasons to care.
Covino
And by the way, the Texas just score the easiest touchdown of all time. 25 yard tutty right out the gate to Gunner Helm.
Rich
Yeah, that was live. Oh my goodness.
Covino
Yeah, that was just you. Because they swapped possessions.
Rich
I didn't want to pull a Sean Sterling.
Danny G
He thought maybe it was a replay.
Rich
Yeah, I thought, whoa, it is high.
Covino
It is far. Oh, that's a replay.
Rich
It's a replay. I can't believe that just happened.
Covino
Yeah, just like that.
Rich
Wow.
Covino
Pressures on Arizona State.
Rich
But what you're saying, Texas up 37, 31.
Covino
Well, they're going for two. Well, you have to go for two.
Rich
And it scored.
Danny G
Yeah, you missed it.
Covino
Yeah, I can't.
Rich
Yeah. Sam, I can't believe that just happened.
Spot
That just happened.
Covino
Oh, and the two point. And the two point conversion.
Spot
I forgot you when you, you like you swap position possessions.
Rich
Yeah.
Spot
In the second overtime.
Rich
39, 31 Texas now. So back to week 18 NFL.
Spot
Oh my goodness.
Rich
Clearly it's not going to have this type of excitement, Rich, except for that late game.
Covino
Hold on. Are you trying to tell me Browns at Ravens. Browns 17 1/2 point underdogs ain't gonna.
Rich
Get you a little ticket car reasons to care. There's gambling reasons to care. There's incentive reasons to care. And the question was, the simple question was, is this a good game maybe to take your family to? And Rich was saying, but no Stars are playing. I'm like, who cares? You think these nose picker kids, this is a great game to take your family to. I think stars, Stars maybe get a better seat than you would have gotten. Go to StubHub. Go. Kids don't care. They're going for the experience. All they're going to remember is that mom and dad took them to the game. I think this is absolutely a game you go to.
Covino
I don't know. I remember going to A Mets game as a kid and you know, you would get mad. Imagine if you went to a Yankees game and Derek Jeter wasn't starting. You go to a Lakers game, if LeBron's not playing, you're mad, you know, ahead of time.
Rich
Hey, kids.
Covino
You want to go see the Chiefs? Yeah, dad.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
But guess what? No Mahomes, no Kelsey, no anybody.
Rich
I don't think. Well, you don't, you don't present it that way. You present it with, we're going to a game and hey, we got good seats.
Danny G
Yeah, we're going to a game and you're going to watch Carson Wentz whether you like it or not. Enjoy.
Rich
Yeah. And you know, there's still reason, like we said, incentive reasons to watch and to care. But I think this could be fun. I don't think. How spoiled is your kid if that's what they care about when they're eating popcorn or having the fixings. They have a hot dog, you buy them a jersey, they got better seats than they probably would have would have got otherwise. I think this is a perfect time to take your family to a game.
Covino
240 total yards for Scatter Boo right now. They just got a 13 yard gain on first and just wanted to say Scatter Boo. So of course I did.
Spot
I call him Scatman Do.
Rich
Yeah, Scatman Do.
Covino
Then he threw it away. Threw it away on 1st and 10 from around the 12 yard line.
Rich
Rich indirectly pretty much put an exclamation point on this conversation without even trying. He doesn't care about week 18. No matter how hard I try to talk about it, he. He keeps going back to this game. So clearly, you know, he doesn't care. I'm going to tell you why I don't care. I get no I so evident.
Covino
I get why some teams are resting certain players. I don't want to get in the tired conversation because everyone else did already on this network and other networks.
Rich
Right. Saquon, Bark, we understand, but it is, you know, I'm not a fan of it, but we understand.
Covino
Mahomes is sitting. I get it. But I'm saying that some of the. Ooh, that could be an interesting scenario. Those scenarios are even lesser because you look at like a Joe Burrow. Everyone, everyone's saying the same thing. Wouldn't it be cool if the Bengals snuck in because he has so much, so much excitement now, the defense or Cincinnati, you know, nothing to write home about.
Rich
I mean, there's a lot of people that bring Joe Burrow up when it Comes to MVP conversations.
Covino
Guess what? That. That conversation ends when all of a sudden, the Chiefs are not going to try to beat Denver. So Denver wins. Denver's in. So it's like now, if the Chiefs were playing, you'd be like, schedule plays out the way it's supposed to. The Broncos have to play the Chiefs. And typically the Chiefs would win. And then all of a sudden, Burrows got a chance. Miami sitting there going like, oh, man, we don't got a chance either now. So I think all those up, interception, Texas, game over. They move on.
Caller
The game is over.
Rich
It's over.
Covino
It's all over. The kicker has the biggest sigh, relief. You know who's going to sleep the easiest tonight?
Rich
That dude with the mullet.
Covino
Mullet dude? Burt Auburn, the kicker for Texas. He would have been the most hated guy.
Rich
That dude looked like Clancy Brown in Bad Boys.
Covino
He would have been the most hated guy in Austin, Texas, had that not gone this way.
Spot
He missed a couple of field goals against Georgia in the SEC title game.
Covino
My goodness.
Spot
So he's been on kind of a rough. A rough couple of games lately.
Covino
Better straighten up before the next round, huh?
Danny G
And really quick, Rich, the numbers. Right now, the Bengals have a 4% chance of making the playoffs. If they win and the jets beat the Dolphins, their chances go up by 17 to 17%. And if the Bengals and the Chiefs beat the Broncos, their chances go up to 43%.
Covino
Yeah, I mean, the reality is, if Broncos win, they're in. And Kansas City's not really playing anyone. So do we all agree that that game could just sort of solidify any little excitement for week 18 other than the big game you spoke of?
Rich
Yeah. I'm just thinking from a kid's perspective or family perspective. Right. I'm thinking back growing up in New Jersey. I always wanted to go to NFL games. And, you know, back then, the Giants were good, and jets, eh, whatever. But yeah, even they were pretty decent, and they had some big stars at the time. But I remember my dad would be able to get stupid New Jersey Generals tickets. And you got to go to the Meadowlands. You got to go to Giant Stadium to watch them. And that was exciting to me as a kid because they were cheap and easy to get. If you're able to get Week 18 tickets, because there's not a lot of competition in week 18, I think that's something you look forward to and look for as a family on a budget heading into the new year, taking your family to a game, I think this is the one you go to I.
Covino
Was trying to make definitely spelled W E a K. Yeah, week.
Rich
I get it. But I'm seeing it from a fan perspective of you're just going to the game for the fun of it. Because to be honest, dude, if you're a real NFL fan, you get a better seat at home anyway. This is. These are the games you go to and just have fun with your kids.
Covino
And the other, the other, like, ooh, what could happen is that NFC South, Bucks and Falcons still fighting, but they both play bottom feeder. So the Bucks hold their own destiny. They just have to beat the Saints at home. Tampa's at home. If Baker Mayfield can't beat the Lowly Saints, week 18, he doesn't deserve it. So, again, I just wish there was more at stake going into week 18. But you know what? The playoffs are going to be awesome. I think this year, and I say that with my team not even being in it, the playoffs look like they are going to shape up to be pretty freaking exciting.
Rich
I have a question for you.
Covino
I just feel like week 18, you know, you get by by maybe doing some prop bets, guys looking for incentives and stuff like that.
Rich
It's not something I plan on talking about, but you mentioned Mayfield.
Covino
Yeah.
Rich
Gained even more respect. I think we all did for this guy after the season. Right? I heard your boy Debo Samuel talking about him. Talking about how he's not the biggest guy, he's not the fastest guy, he doesn't have the best arm, but he plays like every game's his last. Right. He's a dog. He battles and he spoke really high on Baker Mayfield, and that's fine. But if you were Brock Purdy, do you want to hear stuff like that? It's kind of like your girlfriend talking about another podcast or radio show when you're the host. You know, honestly, I'm like, yeah, that's great. You know, I don't really want to hear about it, though. I do. The best one. If you were Brock Purdy, would you want to hear your teammates hyping up someone else who deserves the praise? Don't get it wrong, but would you want to hear that publicly? Because it almost feels like a sneak. This. It almost says what? Brock Purdy doesn't have that fight, doesn't have that dog, doesn't play like every game's his last in a world. And he's not saying that, but indirectly, you could take it that way.
Covino
I'm sorry, I have to say it like this. In a world, In a world where so many NBA and NFL players are in the podcast space.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
Aren't they just bound to say things that could come across this way?
Rich
Hell, yeah.
Covino
I just feel like, you know, and.
Rich
He'S just being honest. I'm just. I'm dissecting. It could be taken that way.
Covino
Put yourself a Brock Purdy shoes, which I'm guessing are like a pair of summer Sperrys. I feel like Brock Purdy wears loafers.
Rich
Definitely wears some Sperry. Yeah.
Covino
So if you're Brock Purdy.
Danny G
Oh, he's on those boot commercials.
Covino
Oh, yeah.
Rich
If you wear some boots, he's wearing some. Hey, dudes.
Covino
If you're wearing some hate dudes like.
Rich
Brock Purdy Rich wears those cheap ones. They're called Sup bros. So if you're Brock Purdy's got his at Payless.
Danny G
Sup bros. Purdy's in some Ariat boots.
Rich
Yeah. If you're Brock Purdy, I wouldn't want to hear it.
Covino
Put yourself in his boots. Would you want to hear your. One of your star players talk about how Baker Mayfield's the man? It's like.
Rich
You're right.
Covino
It's sort of like your wife or girlfriend talk about how some other guy's so successful or ripped or hung or. I don't know. Yeah, you heard me. You don't want to hear these things.
Rich
As the kiddos say. The kiddos. The youngsters. As you say, the younglings. Danny G. He was sort of glazing Baker Mayfield. And I wouldn't like it if I was Brock Purdy. I wouldn't.
Covino
I think the best example of this because it was a trade and transaction gone wrong. So many of us by now have seen the 04 Red Sox documentary.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
When Red Sox were talking about a rod and how they would want him over Nomar.
Rich
Oh, yeah.
Covino
That's horrible.
Rich
That was Kevin Moore.
Covino
And then the trade didn't go down.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
And then Nomar had a look at his teammates who all were like, oh, yeah, we thought we were getting a rod. Sorry. Sorry, bro.
Rich
No, that was terrible. So again, you mentioned the Buccaneers, and I saw that clip, and it just made me think something I thought about when I was on the treadmill today.
Caller
Yeah.
Danny G
But Mayfield lost some points because that viral post that gone around of him sharing cookies and milk with his o lineman.
Rich
That's another one.
Danny G
They're sharing a glass of milk with each other. Pretty gross.
Covino
Milk. Milk might be the grossest beverage to share.
Danny G
100%.
Rich
And look, every. Everyone's got the. In the NFL has gotten to respect Baker.
Danny G
My whole cookie fell in There by accident.
Rich
I saw that. Yeah, he's definitely gained respect.
Danny G
Oh, lineman still took it and took a swig.
Rich
So week 18 is it week? Here's what we'll leave you with Fox Sports Radio Nation. And again, congratulations to Texas. Is it week 18 or week 18?
Covino
You would have been so jealous over the weekend.
Rich
I'm never jealous.
Covino
Not at me walking around for 10 hours at sea World with my kids, which, by the way, great time, but kids are. Kids are a lot, man. You got two little kids at a theme park all day. That's not a day off.
Rich
Have kids, they said, my goodness.
Covino
But I went to Old Town San Diego, and you would have been so jealous of the mole sauce I had. I know you're a big mole Poblano fan.
Rich
Holy mole.
Covino
You go, you find a place with good mole.
Rich
Ay, Dios mijo.
Covino
Ay, Dios mio's right. You know, we got so much to get to today.
Rich
And, Rich, you said you missed some major storylines because, you know, we were in the middle of the holiday season. You forget what day it is. Did you hear about the new conspiracy? No, it's not drones or plasmoids. It's the fog. Have you heard about the fog?
Covino
Is there a bad movie about this?
Rich
No, but there's like a chemical fog.
Sam
It's the mist.
Rich
Everybody's waking up and they're like, something's in the mist. Why is it so foggy out?
Sam
It's called weather.
Danny G
And then they're in the Mark Wahlberg movie.
Rich
Yeah, but they're like, is this in?
Sam
No, that was the bees. Was it snow happening?
Rich
Is this trees?
Sam
Nature was killing us.
Rich
Is this involved with the drones? Why is there so much fog? And then apparently there's a weird fog, like, all over the country, and people are trying to figure it out.
Sam
It's called weather.
Rich
I love a good conspiracy. And we love some good Aaron Rodgers talk.
Sam
So when the temperature drops and the air is warm, it creates moisture in.
Covino
The air, which the government and aliens working together.
Rich
Oh, it must be the answer. I can't wait to hear Aaron Rodgers take on this.
Sam
The most complex is always the right answer.
Rich
But Aaron Rodgers always gets himself involved in some sort of sound bite or controversy. He hasn't mentioned the fog yet, but that. That is a fun one on social media. So it has to be true. He has said something, though, that has gone viral.
Covino
I thought it was a fake. So did I like Onion story.
Rich
And you have to ask yourself, is he serious? And I think he is. Or is he saying this just so that people talk about him. Take a listen and listen closely to what Aaron Rodgers has said.
Covino
Gratitude.
G
Honestly, it's been the best two years of my life, and that's a perspective adjustment that happened, I think, at some point during the rehab process last year. But just the excitement, falling back in love with getting to know these guys in here, getting to know the great men and women that work here. Obviously on the field has been short of expectations, no doubt. But this game is more than just that. This game is about the relationships, about the things that really last longer than this, last longer than your health does, and lasts longer than your body being able to play. So I'm really thankful for the men and women I met here in New Jersey and the experiences I got to have with my teammates and enjoying the city and obviously wish things would have gotten better on the field, but nothing but gratitude for this time in my life, man.
Rich
I just got back from New Jersey and it's great, but it's not that great. Great pizza, great Taylor ham sandwiches. It was great to see my par, but it's not that great.
Covino
The question is, you hear this from Aaron Rodgers, does it make you understand him more or just roll your eyes at him more? Because when you talk about perspective, he said the injury gave him the ability to fall in love with the game all over. When he, you know, found himself not learning how to play again, but getting back on the field.
Rich
I mean, he said all the right things, but the best two years of his life. That's crazy.
Covino
More and more important than W's might be those relationships he talks about, which is true here.
Rich
I wrote down notes because I was like, is this a joke? I wrote, I understand. I do. I understand everything he said. And it's beautiful. I understand, but I don't necessarily like it. As a sports fan. As a sports fan, and I get it, you could separate your professional life to your personal life. But he's Aaron Rodgers, the football player. How in the world could he say these are the best two years of his life? That's hard to wrap your fat head around. I have a hard time believing that. I believe that's a great outlook for him to have. I just don't know if that's possible.
Covino
You know one of our pals, Gary V. The motivational dude on social media.
Rich
Of course I know Gary Vee. Is that a rhetorical question?
Covino
Yes, it is, actually.
Rich
Okay.
Covino
Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary Vaynerchuk. I mean, he talks about how in life he keeps it real. But when he's a sports fan, he realizes that when you're a fan, a fanatic, your mind allows you to think illogically. You. You root and care more than you should about certain things. That's part of being a fan. So as a fan, do you want to hear Aaron Rodgers say these are the two best years of his life?
Rich
No.
Covino
We as fans have odd expectations of athletes and coaches. The guy that's on before is Doug Gottlieb's a coach. He posts a picture. He posts a picture on the holidays, and what do people say immediately? Yeah, stop with it. Get back to the gym. Yeah.
Rich
No, it's true, Trick.
Sam
Your family should be working.
Rich
We all wear two different hats, right? Personal and professional. Actually, Cam Newton wears lots of hats. Actually, he says lots of things. He has all sorts of Mountie hats.
Covino
Didn't he say baseball was going to take a backseat to the wnba?
Rich
He's like.
Sam
He's operating a hot air balloon.
Covino
I think that's talking out of his ass.
Rich
We all wear different hats, but I find it impossible for this guy to have had this injury and to have played as bad as he's played and the team has been. How about that embarrassing last game? Holy, Holy Mother of God. There's no way. There's no way you could say this is the best two years of your life.
Covino
No. Give me a Goonies.
Rich
Holy. What does he say?
Covino
Mary mother of God.
Rich
Oh, you know what? I just watched Twilight Zone, the movie. As. As you know, we had a Twilight Zone marathon the past few days, and when the guy steps out to see the plane and the damage that the beast had done outside of the plane, he goes, holy Toledo. So that's why I was a little confused there.
Sam
I've been to Toledo. Not really that Holy Toledo.
Rich
So Holy Toledo. You're going to tell me that he had the best two years of his life? Like I said, it's beautiful to find the silver lining in all this. What does it mean, God, why have I suffered? And you know, he says, I've made great relationships. I fell in love with it. These are all wonderful things. As a sports fan, I don't like it. Man to man, I get it. I understand. But as a sports fan, that's what we're doing here on Fox Sports. We're talking sports. Beat it. I don't want to hear that. You think I want to hear Aaron Judge talk about how great his last year has been? Like, really, dude, you dropped the ball.
Covino
You see how someone synced up that? If you started watching game five at a certain point. Aaron Judge dropped the ball at midnight.
Sam
That's not fun.
Rich
And by the way, he announced he's, you know, he's having a baby. Hey, personally, I'm happy for him, but professionally, I want that to fire you up and drive you like. Yeah.
Danny G
Does that mean his tummy's going to start looking like Sotos?
Rich
Yes. No, no. You. You almost as a fan, want a level of discontent from the athletes that aren't producing. You want to hear the best? You said it best. The grandest time ever.
Covino
You said it best. Roll back what you said 30 seconds ago. Man to man. I get it. As a sports fan. Get the hell out of here.
Rich
That's it.
Covino
You know, those are the two different hats we wear.
Sam
Athletes are people too, you know, but.
Covino
Think about it professionally, just like us.
Rich
Yeah, but dude, they're known. We watch Aaron Rodgers the football player. We don't watch Aaron Rodgers the man. Right.
Sam
That's who we care about. What is that? Enigma? Yeah, that's Aaron Rodgers the man.
Covino
But you know what? I agree. Because there are times, like I go back, hey, we're. We're coming up on the five year anniversary of COVID right? That was a crappy year. We lost a gig, you know, we lost two.
Rich
I lost two gigs.
Covino
Some people lost. Some people lost. Family members. Yeah, I mean, there was a lot of bad stuff. But you know what? Personally for me, my wife and I had a baby that year. We were. We bought a house that year. Things of home, people like, how was in my mind? I'm like, you know what? A lot went down. That was a pretty awesome year.
Rich
Worst year ever.
Covino
But what I'm saying is I get man to man versus what you want to hear are two different things. You want Aaron Rodgers to be like, man, you know what? I'm embarrassed. The worst years of my life. Sorry Jets. Sorry everyone. Sorry, fans.
Rich
And you know what, Rich? Then if you really think these were the two best years of your life.
Covino
You heard him on McAfee. He has a girlfriend. He has a girlfriend and he's happy.
Rich
I get it. Then you know what? But preface it with that.
Sam
He doesn't live freely, though.
Rich
Preface it. No, but preface it with that. You know, man, I didn't meet my expectations. There you go. I feel like he said that. Yeah, but I feel like you really got to emphasize that before you tell me how great your life has been. Seriously, as a fan, blazed over it.
Covino
If Aaron Rodgers found love.
Rich
He did. Yeah.
Covino
And he said, you know what? It really put football in perspective. He's on his ayahuasca journeys if he's happy and healthy.
Rich
That's how people lose their hunger, though, Rich. You need something to fight for. You need that. That chip on your. Or that. That anger. You need that extra motivation sometimes to compete, that extra edge. These dudes are hungry in the NFL. He's too content sitting back with his feet up. That's not who you want leading your.
Covino
Team because Kansas City's sitting there. Stars, Stars, Stars. You're not stars. You're not going to get a legit Broncos Chiefs game, which means, I mean, maybe Carson Wentz delivers. I mean, he's. He's fighting for something, right? But the whole point of that game was, ooh, if the Chiefs beat the Broncos, then Joe Burrow or the Dolphins have a shot to sneak into the playoffs. But now it seems like the Kansas City Chiefs are just getting ready for the playoffs. And by sitting there, stars, they're going to have a lot of rest because they won't play this week. They won't play Week 1 in the wild card. So you're again counting on weeks and weeks of rest, and we've seen that go either way.
Rich
Yeah, health is wealth. I get it.
Covino
So I get it. The Saquon thing, maybe we'll touch on later. Everyone else's. I get it, but I don't.
Rich
Again, safety measures, but sort of weak.
Covino
Yeah, kind of weak. But here's a couple things you could bet on.
Rich
But you know, what if he broke the record, Sort of weak anyway, you know, no one would have gave him the credit.
Covino
Do you think that plays into it? Part of me thinks it does. You're avoiding. You're avoiding a meaningless debate.
Rich
Yeah, he would have had it, done it last week to get that full pat on the back.
Covino
Yeah, true. Think of how long until the steroid era. There are still people that were like, well, Roger marriage did it in more games than Babe Ruth. People were arguing about that 60 years ago.
Rich
Yeah, exactly.
Covino
So, I mean, like, we added another game. People want more football.
Rich
Relieved.
Covino
Oh, he's happy. Yeah.
Rich
He didn't want that broken. I don't blame him.
Covino
And he made. No, he wasn't shy about it either.
Rich
I don't blame him. Appreciate the honesty.
Covino
But a couple of guys. Let me. Let me throw these out there. If you're looking for some prop bets, Mike Evans, big incentives if he catches five passes for 85 or more yards. So if you're looking at some prop bets to make the bucks, they'll put up some points this week for sure. Mike Evans, you got. Tony Pollard needs 53 yards. Geno Smith, this is a big one. If he gets 10 wins, I believe a million dollar incentive kicks in. Which means Gino is at nine wins now.
Rich
Ten wins, money on the Seahawks.
Covino
And he needs 185 plus yards passing for another big, I think half a million dollar incentives. So Geno's playing for a lot of money. So I expect Geno Smith to be balling. Expect Mike Evans to be balling. J.K. dobbins has hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line.
Rich
These are fun reasons to watch.
Covino
58 plus yards for J.K. dobbins. Derek Henry gets another $500,000 if he gets a touchdown. So money on that. So again, maybe you parlay all these little fun things into one bet.
Spot
Here's the thing with Geno and the Seahawks, great. If they get to 10 wins, awesome. But they've already been eliminated from playoff contention. So it's cheap. It's a cheap little bonus incentive.
Covino
Yeah, but I mean, who are you rooting for? The player or the billion dollar organization?
Spot
I don't care about his incentive. It does. It doesn't mean anything.
Rich
It's phony.
Covino
I get it.
Spot
But you for him personally, I know it's good.
Covino
It would have been, it would have been fun if that Seahawks Rams game meant something.
Spot
I know. If it came down to that. But it just settled.
Covino
Tiebreaker goes the Rams way, so it's already settled. But hey, Gino, Tony Pollard, he's got something to play for.
Danny G
Derek Henry, DeAndre Hopkins needs a bunch of catches. Oh, DeAndre Hopkins for 250,000 if he.
Covino
Goes buck wild like over 125 yards or something. So there's a lot of them. You know what, I'll post some of them at Covino and Rich so you can play along. Did you see the list that came out of all of our favorite comedians and how much they made last year?
Rich
Tell me about it, Rich.
Covino
I'm being said, I guess I remember a couple years ago we saw our pal Sebastian Maniscalco and it was like, what did he make? 20, $30 million? You know, Nate Barghetzi made more money than anyone this year on the road.
Rich
Really?
Covino
But there's a handful of guys you see on social media. Nate must be nice. Sebastian Fluffy.
Danny G
Last night during the New Year's celebrations on tv, there were a bunch of Nikki Glazer bad Nikki Glaser promos for the Golden Globes.
Rich
Yeah, she's hosting this year. She made a Lot of bank. Yeah.
Danny G
Looked like she was being held hostage by the network.
Rich
Her life changed after the Tom Brady roast. And we're going to talk Tom Brady and being rich in just one moment.
Covino
But, but that comedian list, Jo Koy was on there.
Rich
You said Gabe Iglesias.
Covino
Gabe Iglesias. I mean, Sandler. But there were a handful of comics that were all banking 20, 30, 40 mil. It's the time for comedians, man. It really is.
Rich
Well, props to them. And thanks to Joe Coy. He reached out to us recently. Big fan.
Spot
Did you guys see this? That Creed made the most money touring that they've ever made in their career. Like $64 million.
Rich
I did see that. Yeah. They had a huge year.
Spot
Like they had an amazing comeback. Okay, second thing here.
Rich
And by the way, you know, inspired all that truth. I'm not trying to bring it back to sports, but the Texas Rangers, really inspired.
Spot
I thought it'd be Kirk Cousins, like singing.
Sam
I thought you were going to say Creed in the locker room, not your interview.
Rich
And my interview on SiriusXM interview. I did a reunited and unplugged special with them. That is true. But I got from them that if it wasn't for Texas, the Texas Rangers, it would have never happened.
Spot
Good for them. I mean, you know, they, they for a long time were sort of like a punchline to jokes, but they were. It's a good band and they've had a hell of a comeback and now they're cool again.
Rich
You know, there is a market for all that nostalgia. Rich for sure, of course. And comedians, props to all of them. Making bank. But you know what, I have a question about all that. But first, TireRack.com will help you get there in unmatched selection fast. Free shipping, free road hazard protection, over 10,000 recommended installers. Tirerack.com like Tirebank should be. That's our bonus podcast show again, Covino and Rich. Now, speaking of rich people, I have a question based on a funny clip I saw between Gronk and Edelman. They were talking about their good bud Brady, who also made lots of money. Of course he did in the past year. And he's investing his money. Take a listen to what Gronk and Edelman had to say about their boy.
Caller
He should be the Raiders owner, not Tom. Just kidding, Tom. Yeah, we need you as a Raiders owner because then you'll be, like, really rich, and then you can get a yacht and Julie and I can come on it.
Covino
Yeah, yeah. And then you can give us, like, cushy, like, scouting jobs.
Caller
Yeah.
Covino
Like a million dollars a year.
Caller
Yeah, we love you, Tom. Yeah, we love you. Howie's not the owner. You're the owner, Tom. We need you, buddy. We hang out with you more. And maybe if we need a job in the future, that's what dudes and dudes do. If you're a bro, one dude always gives a job to their, like, bro.
Covino
Like that' called daydreaming duding. So they were daydreaming duding.
Rich
Daydreaming duding. Yeah. That's what some people do, I guess. Yeah. Well, they were talking about how we Long and Gronk playfully said Howie Long should be the owner of the Raiders, not Tom. Not Tom. Just kidding, Tom. Because we want our bud to make lots of money. And it's easy for them to say because they're all well off. Okay, Gronk's doing pretty good. Last I checked. Edelman doing pretty good.
Covino
You always see that rumor that Gronk never spent a dollar of his NFL money, that he just.
Rich
Yeah, he used all his endorsement money.
Covino
Invested it, and just only lived on endorsement money. That's true. Then he's wrong.
Rich
He's lived on Tide pod money. Right. So based on that clip, and you just mentioned all the comedians that are slaying it, is it annoying or awesome to have a rich friend? Can you really roll with a guy that's living a completely different lifestyle than you? Like, is that really your boy? Can he really relate to you in any way? Right. If you have real life things going on and you're struggling just to get food on the table and this dude's talking about buying yachts, are you really on the same page? Doesn't make him a bad guy. I'm not saying that he's a bad guy, but is it annoying to you or awesome if you have a friend who's significantly wealthier than you struggling?
Danny G
This was the premise of Entourage.
Covino
I mean, yeah, you know, it's. I.
Rich
You know, I've never been in that situation before.
Covino
I'll tell you why you're not.
Rich
I don't think I want to put myself in. I don't like hanging out with big dudes because I feel like they're little buddies. I'm let alone guys with big pockets.
Covino
I don't want to. I don't want to get in our first fight of 2025, but it might happen.
Rich
It's not. I'm just a chill guy.
Covino
Oh, the new Covino New year.
Rich
Yeah, I'm like that meme with the dog. Yeah.
Spot
Isn't that like an aardvark or something?
Rich
Yeah, I'm like that aardvark.
Covino
Whatever.
Spot
Aardvark. Is that Arthur something?
Rich
Yeah, just the chill guy.
Danny G
I already tweeted out first fight for CNR of 2025.
Covino
You know, it is got to follow through Cavino. And I don't blame him because I'm not saying I love hanging out with awesome dudes that are way cooler than me, but Covino only wants to hang with people that are his level or not doing as well financially looks or anything. Covino doesn't want to hang out.
Rich
It sounds like a conscious decision.
Spot
That's why me and my best buddies.
Rich
Yeah, but he actually have a criteria and checklist.
Spot
Ugly than me, less money than me.
Covino
Yeah. That's why I love you. I was saying, you think I want.
Rich
To hang with like super handsome guys? Get out of here. Yeah, avoid them.
Covino
That's my point. My point is.
Rich
My point is not consciously. Anyway, if.
Covino
If Covino bumped into. I know. Give me like a. A handsome rich guy.
Sam
Jason Momoa.
Covino
Jason Momoa. Ryan Reynolds.
Spot
Isaac Cavill or you know.
Covino
Yeah.
Sam
Oh, Henry Cavill.
Rich
I'm dying to be his. You're essentially his chubby best friend, you know. You know, every hot chick has like a. Like a chubby best friend.
Spot
And I'll be reaping all the bits.
Covino
So you're saying that. But you will never want to be the equivalent of like the hot girls. Chubby friend.
Rich
No, no. I mean, I'm not saying I won't be, but who the hell strives for that? Who wants to be nobody? So that's where the question comes from, I think.
Covino
Birds of a feather, right? Like, listen, if you are doing well in life, it is a little tricky to hang out people in a different.
Rich
That's why Gronk and Edelman could. Could say these things about Tommy, you know, hey, man, because they're rich.
Sam
Tommy.
Rich
But Tom may have wealth.
Sam
Yeah.
Rich
Right. So it's okay if you're a regular guy. Can you really be friends or is there always a subconscious envy? I don't want to say jealous, but like an envy.
Covino
Right. Dynamic. For sure.
Rich
Right?
Covino
There's definitely a dynamic. Like if you Go out to dinner. Let's say you're a modest guy making, you know, regular guy money and your friend's making millions. Is there a weird feeling every time you hang out with that guy? Like, is he pain? I mean, he's got the money. Like, there's, there is layers. Like, that's why you notice a lot of people end up hanging with people in their same.
Rich
Yeah, because.
Covino
Situation. Yeah.
Rich
Because it's. They have more in common. There's just an understanding.
Covino
Like, even something like going to a game, and I'm not forcibly trying to bring this back into sports, but if you're going to a ball game with a friend, if you have money and you're saying, like, all right, we do, we're going to the bowl game and we're going to the NFL playoffs, what are we gonna get? Sweet tickets, field level, 50 yard line. And then your other buddy might be like, yo, dude, I can't afford that. I'm upper deck, corner of the end.
Rich
Zone that starts driving.
Covino
Then there's a wedge and it's like, oh. Then the one guy's like, don't worry, bro, I'll cover you. Then it's like, I don't need your money.
Rich
Like, becomes awkward a little bit. Yeah, you could see that, right? You could see how those things start to be an issue. And as we all grow in life and professionally, you might be that guy that's doing well and good for you, and maybe that's why your buddy doesn't want to hang with you. Right. Think about it. This is maybe the subconscious or reason that people don't necessarily want to bring up that drove those relationships apart. But it is nice to hear how Gronk and Element are rooting for Tommy. But again, they're all rich.
Covino
You know where this happens a lot with women, because I'm sure we've all heard our wives or girlfriends talk about this. Someone gets married, that's a bachelorette party. There are times where if the girl get married, she's got a little flow, comes from money. She makes money. Her husband, her future husband makes money. That bachelorette party, between that, the dress, the everything that goes with it, could be thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars. And her friend might be like, yo, I don't have that type of money.
Sam
It's like the movie Bridesmaid.
Covino
It's almost like they made a movie about a spot.
Rich
I could see how that's annoying. Now I have big goals, right? So I, I, I don't really feel the way Rich has described it. Because I'm like, well, my goals are big, so I'm going to sell you on my, on my goals and dreams. I might not be where I want to be right now, but I'll be there. That's my, my confidence talking. Right?
Sam
But goals don't sign the check.
Rich
It would be kind of annoying if like your buddy has all the things that you're striving for. I probably know that sounds superficial, but. And it shouldn't because you could reap the benefits like there in the same breath, Rich. We could say, hey man, it's got to be fun to have a friend with a boat. Because you could always go on that boat. But guess what? It's not your boat.
Covino
But is that your ego though?
Rich
No. And here's why. Can I, can I please say one more thing? Please do. I'm starting to see that with my nephew. Right. Look, we live here in California and my nephew has two hard working parents and you know, they're check to check, but they have love and they have all these other great things.
Covino
And Uncle Steve too.
Rich
And they have Uncle Steve to buy him Jordans and everything, right? But his friends here in la, some of them got cash and they're having these crazy kid birthday parties where they're renting out crazy things and boats and.
Covino
Arcades and your sister's buying a sheet cake from Ralph's.
Rich
Yeah. So. And that now I'm seeing my little kid, my little nephew start realize, well, wow, we're, we're not doing as well as these other kids I'm friends with. That's gotta be tough in a lot of ways. So again, I, I can't necessarily relate, Rich, because I, I've never been put in that situation where I don't want to be. This guy's annoying because he's got too much money for me. But then again, I'm not friends with anybody, Rich. You know why? Maybe they want to be friends with me. We're not, I'm not on their team.
Spot
I'm friends with a guy named Rich, though.
Covino
I think you, I think a lot of times as we get older, you got your high school bros, your college buddies, guys you know, guys you may have played sports with or went to school with. You, you grow up, but sometimes you do grow apart because of financial reasons. I know that sounds terrible, but it really is true. If one guy is vacationing in the Maldives and he's, you know, he has different residencies and the other buddy's like, yo, dude, like I have a, I have cardboard furniture you know, like there's a big difference. All right, I'll give you an example here on the network. If our pal Colin Cowherd stars.
Rich
Stars, Stars, Stars. He's rolling stars.
Covino
So if Colin Cowherd's like Carvino Rich stars, you filling in for me on the herd on Friday? Oh, why don't we come over my place for a little barbecue?
Rich
Oh, yeah, but they don't put us on tv, man. That's messed up.
Covino
You know, I'm intimidated by your great hair.
Rich
That's probably it.
Danny G
She's got a wine cellar too.
Covino
Hey, put some doofus on the TV side of it. You know why? Intimidated by Kavino Rich's hair. We'll do the radio. We'll do the radio side.
Rich
Colin's got a wine cellar.
Covino
I hate him. So. No, I'm saying if. If we were at Colin's house or went to Dan Patrick's house, we would be like, wow. But deep down inside, Covino would be like, mopey. Like he really would.
Rich
Whoa.
Sam
He's got a statue of himself in his hallway.
Rich
Come on. Look there.
Danny G
It's a form of hunger.
Rich
Yeah, that. That. That stuff motivates me, Rich. It really does. It does. And toilet seat. See, like I look at it this way. If it was a family member, I'm happy for their success. Right? That's the healthy way to be, right? You're not rooting against your family in any weird way.
Spot
They'll leave you in their will, but.
Rich
Yeah, cuz you really care for that person. You want them to succeed. But we're talking just a friend. Or maybe it was a close friend. And that dude. It's got to be tough when you guys are coming together, right? Say two dudes are coming up together. You're the best buds. One dude starts blowing up, the other dude is living a regular life, you.
Covino
Know, Be tough for that regular guy. You know what? You see this outside of sports, to tie back to the conversation we just had. Comedy. A lot of times a comedian will go from making peanuts, sleeping on couches, like. Like playing Little Chuckles comedy clubs, and then within a couple years, something happens and you're a guy like Matt Rife, who all of a sudden went from, you know, handsome young kid to. He was one of those guys on the list of who made the Most money in 20, 25, 24 in the comedy world. And your other buddy still doing comedy at small clubs. It's gotta create a weird feeling, dude. And by the way, we're about to see Ohio state go up 30 nothing. What is going on?
Rich
Dominating you.
Covino
Did Oregon even show up?
Rich
I know. So again, this all came.
Covino
If it was a video game, could Oregon hit the Nintendo reset switch with their big toe?
Rich
No, this all came up because Gronk and Edelman. I thought it was a funny conversation. We're talking about how jokingly Howie Long should be the owner of the Raiders, not Tom Brady. They're like, no, no, no, we're just kidding, Tom. Because you're gonna have a yacht, and we're your boys, so we're gonna be partying. We're gonna reap the benefits of having a wealthy friend.
Covino
Listen to that.
Rich
Easy for them to say because they've got money.
Covino
But listen to that clip one more time. Them talking about Tom Brady, Gronkin, Edelman.
Caller
He should be the Raiders owner, not Tom. Just kidding, Tom. Yeah, we need you as the Raiders owner, because then you'll be, like, really rich. And then you can get a yacht and Julia and I can come on it. Yeah, yeah.
Covino
And then you can give us, like, cushy, like, scouting jobs.
Caller
Yeah.
Covino
Like a million dollars. A.
Caller
We love you, Tom. Yeah, we love you. How? He's not the owner. You're the owner. We need you, buddy. We hang out with you more. And maybe if we need a job in the future, that's what dudes and dudes do. If you're a bro, one dude always gives a job to their, like, bro.
Covino
Like, that's called daydreaming duty. Daydreaming duty. Are you down with this or not? That. That's really the question. Daydreaming duding. Are you daydreaming that, hey, it may not be me? If one of my boys gets rich and famous, I'm in Entourage style.
Sam
Daydreaming duding.
Covino
That's what Edelman said. Daydreaming. Daydreaming.
Sam
Daydreaming, dude.
Rich
Well, we have friends with boats, which we're at that level, and I'm not jealous of them in any way. I just look at it the way they look at it. Like, I guess I could go on a boat every once in a while. That's kind of fun.
Covino
Something to think about. And especially, like I said, in the world of sports and comedy, two places where all of a sudden, two people that knew each other their whole life, one guy goes pro, one guy doesn't. One guy selling out Madison Square Garden, some guy's still playing, you know, laughers in Burbank.
Rich
Well, you know, that's what the song Scars is about. You know, I'm the rock host of Turbo 41 every night on SiriusXM.
Covino
Aren't you the guy that got Creed their big break this year?
Rich
Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's why Scott Stabbed wanted to hang out. But I'm like, you're too rich for me, dude. The song Scars, the Scar reminds Jacoby Shaddicks. Scars, scars, scars. It reminds him that the past is real because he used to, you know, run the streets with his boys and do hood rat things. But he had bigger dreams of his band blowing up. But his buddies were still doing the same old things and going down a different path, not such a great path. So he had to separate himself from that and say, yeah, man, I'm going to be a rock star and do my thing. But his buddies really couldn't keep up with that sort of drive and that sort of life. And they went down a different path of drugs and. And not so good things. But that scar reminds him that the past was real. And that's what that whole song's about. It's not about a woman or anything. It's about his friendships.
Covino
Can we do a segment called Covino Breaks Down Divorced Dad Rockets?
Rich
But it's true. I mean, a lot of people probably think that's about a woman.
Sam
Yeah, you don't want to be a freeloader. One, yeah. Two, it's no more prevalent that you can't hang with someone who has more money than you than the holiday season. If you look at all these stories of all the athletes, like giving gifts to their teammates and friends, and it's like they're all north of like hundred thousand dollar gifts for multiple people. So there's no way that you're hanging in the same league as someone with that kind of money.
Covino
And by the way, Spot, literally and figuratively, Spot brings up one great point that I think we could end this conversation with. It was a funny clip, like we said, of Tom being talked about by Gronk and Edelman. Could you hang out with really rich people if your friends or family members somehow catch a good break or they're super talented?
Rich
Do you feel like you fit in.
Covino
With the Buxtons, Kavino? I think this is extremely relevant because we just wrapped up the holiday season. I feel like people love to talk. How much does your family and friends love to gossip and talk about other people, especially around the holidays?
Rich
I mean, that's all my parents do.
Sam
Yeah, they're gossip queens.
Covino
If someone had money and they get everyone a really great gift, what does everyone say? Hey, look at them hot shot thing. There look at them. But wait. Bought me a car. Like if, you know, if you got a big deal one day and you're like mom and dad, I'm gonna, you know, I'm gonna buy you a house, dude.
Rich
Think about it. Remember when Richie Valance bought his parents, his mom a washing machine in a new house? Remember how Bob was so like upset about it now she loves Richie more. If you get it drier though, if.
Covino
The rich person does something leftovers like a dog. If the rich person does something elaborate it.
Rich
In art lessons.
Covino
$500.
Rich
Art lessons.
Sam
In art lessons.
Rich
No, but remember how bad he, he felt sort of like he, he felt weak about it.
Covino
I'm just saying if someone, he was the underachieving son. If someone rich buys everyone big gifts, they're showoff. And look at who they think they are. As your dad would say. All right, let's, let's go to midweek major spot. There we go.
Rich
Covino and Rich gets you over the.
Danny G
Middle of the week with midweek major.
Covino
Ooh, I love that.
Rich
We throw sports and pop culture headlines and topics at the fellas.
Danny G
And it's like the kids say, that's.
Covino
So mid week definitely major.
Danny G
C and R scoring midweek major.
Sam
Look at the clock.
Danny G
Gotta give Spotty at least seven full minutes here.
Rich
Whole seven minutes.
Danny G
When you hear the horns, you know you have made it to the middle of the week. All right, before we hand things over to the number one and only host of the segment, C and R rolling the big red love dice over there in the main studio.
Rich
I just rolled a six.
Danny G
This is to see who gets first.
Sam
That was the slowest roll I've ever seen.
Danny G
Oh, Rick R. It's Cavino's going to go first. And now ladies and gentlemen, the most most famous person besides Judy Blume from Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Spotty boy.
Sam
All right, since Kavino's leading off, I'll jump in with the Yanks. Everyone dropping their year end recaps. Of course, everyone loves to do that on social media. Pat themselves on the back. Including none other than Yankee slugger Aaron Judge. And since everyone loves to analyze and nitpick everything, fans noticed that one person was noticeably absent from judges montage. Any guesses who?
Rich
Any guesses? Soto.
Sam
Yes, Former Yankee Juan Soto. Now Mets player. Mets. Our fans called out the absence on social media. Also played it up being like soto, who? Who's this guy? I don't even know. What are you talking about? So no word on whether or not this was intentional, but it is noticeable. Midweek or Major.
Rich
I think it's so major and I like it.
Covino
Oh, stop it.
Rich
I do. Because you need that fire. Anything that motivates you is good for me. And the way that, that Soto slapped him in the face and backstabbed the Yankees and his relationship with Judge. Yeah. I hope that Aaron Judge uses that that to motivate this backstab as motivation for the Yankees. So yeah, screw Soto. They're better off without him. I like it. I like the fire. I like that little petty, that pettiness. Because Aaron Judge is a really nice guy, right?
Covino
Says who?
Rich
Says me. I want him to, to say F you to that dude.
Covino
I think this is the weakest story of all time. We leaving another grown man off his yearly recap.
Sam
Verdugo made a heavy appearance apparently.
Covino
Can I ask a question?
Rich
I can't wait to be rich and famous and leave Sam off of my year end.
Covino
I really honestly, I'm supposed to be in your will. On the, on the drive back from San Diego, I was going through all videos and pictures where I was actually gonna post one later. Like of us at our show. Is that lamer also awesome. Should everyone do that?
Danny G
Why would.
Rich
It's only good for some people.
Covino
But it's self serving spot. But it's also like, you know, in the future when you're an old man, you can look back and be like, oh, that was 2024. No.
Sam
Sure.
Rich
Anyway, we have a radio show to promote. If anyone should, it should be us.
Covino
Next story.
Sam
LeBron LeBron celebrated the big four zero this week. It's getting older on Monday and when asked about the future of his career on his birthday, he said he could definitely play at a high level for another five to seven years, but plans to walk away long before that happens. He says his feelings on retirement have intensified over time, so while he still has gas in the tank, he plans to go out on top. Also said that when he retires, he's retiring. He's not going to follow in the footsteps of a Tom Brady or Michael Jordan. He said once he steps away, he knows it's for good. Midweek OR major.
Rich
Anything LeBron James related is always major. Definitely major. And I also think it's major that he's admitting that he's only got a few years left. And yeah, I do think he could play another five years if he really wanted to. But his heart's not in it and it has to be if you want to compete at that level. So look, he, he's, he's a phenom. We've had the privilege of watching him this long. Happy birthday to LeBron.
Covino
I think it's mid. I think it's mid. We all get older, we all retire, but I get it because it's LeBron. It's a big deal. I do think he conditions himself in a way where he probably could play to 45. We've seen the Ichiros and the Tom Brady's and guys play into their 40s that really take care of themselves, you know, in a like a almost alien type of way. He's that remarkable. But you know, playing until you can't play no more. I always, I never liked that look. So I love the fact that LeBron's like gonna leave on his terms when he feels it's right. It's pretty remarkable what he's done.
Rich
Side story, his son Bryce James committed to Arizona. I don't know if you saw that. That was news.
Sam
All right, let's see. Pro bowl fan voting results are in and no surprise, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelsey tops the list. I don't know if you saw this. Voting ended on December 23rd. Results just released. Kelsey had over 252,000 entries right behind him lines running back Jameer Gibbs with 250 and 250 and Jaden Daniels with 242,000. People are of course assuming that his famous girlfriend had something to do with him creeping up as at the top of the list. But he did come in third back in 2022, so who knows. But it might after his less than stellar season, people are questioning the motivation behind it. Pro Bowl February 2nd midweek or major.
Rich
Everything about it's mid everything. The game that's so the way it's selected his season. You know, he might get the last laugh when all said and done, they might win again and do something that has never been done in the NFL with a three peat. But we all know why he's there. He's just a super popular player.
Covino
Who's Jameer Gibbs? Dayton, Dua, Lipa, Rihanna? What's going on here? He's number two. That, that's. That to me is a little shocking. But it's, it's a mid story. The Pro bowl so uneventful. It's if anything now it's more of just a brand bragging, right? When a guy retires, right, you could say, oh look, he's a four time Pro Bowler. The game itself is almost a joke. Now it's a flank football game. I, I get it but it's silly, right?
Sam
Real quick sticking with the Kelsey's, they did announce their first guest of the new year. This is major. This is my opinion. Caitlin Clark will be appearing on the episode that drops this Thursday. What do you guys think about that? Midweek or major?
Rich
Agreed. I think very major. Caitlin Clark, biggest name in sports. One of the biggest name. Biggest name in basketball, for sure.
Covino
Yeah. I don't want to talk about other podcasts.
Rich
Let's talk about our podcast. All right. How about that, Mike?
Covino
I want Will Clark on our show.
Rich
Come on, Rich.
Spot
It's major.
Sam
There you go.
Rich
You know What? No, no. Iowa. Sam's gonna book. Jack Clark, former St. Louis cardinal I.
Sam
Want to squeeze one more in just because it's funny. Cowboys over. Jerry Jones had a pretty miserable Sunday. Not only losing to the Eagles, his Cowboys losing to the Eagles.
Covino
I mean, it did come down to, like, really five plays, though, according to.
Sam
Micah Parson, but also getting horribly heckled by Eagles fans the entire game. Jones, of course, watching from his sweet high above all the fans. But videos show a bunch of rambunctious Eagles fans. We know how Philly people are just yelling and berating at him the entire game, and he couldn't escape it. So midweek or major on that.
Rich
I think it's. It's major because, I mean, he hears this all the time, but his team stinks. It really does. And the expectations just. It's. They're so high for Dallas, and he's so old that they gotta win now or never, right? What is he, 182 years old?
Covino
Is he 82 or 182? It might be 180. I split the difference. Might be one.
Rich
So, of course he hears it. To be in that situation and to really hear his team getting dumped on by Eagles fans, that's got to be tough at that age, especially.
Covino
I have very little sympathy for Jerry Jones in the fact that he's a billionaire that owns a football team and lived out his dream, and he's won Super Bowls.
Rich
It's just been a minute.
Covino
I just wonder, if you're a Cowboys fan, is there a sentiment that in his lifetime, you could turn it around and compete? Because I think where the Cowboys are right now, they're not. I don't think they're, like, a move away. I think they're almost in football purgatory, you know, where, like, you're not bad enough to get a revamp, but you're not good enough to be missing, like, a piece. Right? Like, that's the worst place for the Cowboys to be. Football purgatory. And that's where they're at.
Rich
Settle down just a little bit.
Covino
Sorry, Jerry.
Rich
There's a guy I follow on social media. I'm a fight fan, and he does like a fight podcast. It's not better than our show, but I got to give him props.
Covino
Two Tone Superstar as nice.
Rich
Two Tone Superstar, Right? I do lift some of his expressions when he goes, oh, it's getting musty in here. He always says, getting musty, right?
Covino
I've seen this guy. He's fine.
Rich
And he goes, oh, he'll say something like. He'll diss something like, that's a weak shirt you got on. But I say that respectfully. He says respectfully all the time. He's one of those guys really funny, breaks down fights. He did a video or a TikTok about how he went to Planet Fitness. A lot of people hitting the gym today, right? Because it's the first of the month resolutions for the next two weeks. You're gonna see a lot of people with big dreams.
Covino
Planet Fitness. I guess his TikTok videos aren't paying. Oh. Oh. I say that respectfully.
Rich
Well, and he said that he got kicked out for a very odd reason. Take a listen.
H
Planet Fitness, y'all. Some BS bro told you cannot wear Crocs. You can't wear Crocs on the gym floor in Planet Fitness. The same Planet Fitness that serves delicious hungry Howie's pizza after workouts. The same Planet Fitness that doesn't allow you to slam weights. The same Planet Fitness where all the equipment is low key. Mid. Y'all gotta get it together. This is where y'all draw the line at. Y'all draw the line on Crocs. My Crocs was in Sports mode. They literally have a mode called Sports Mode. I'm in here training for a fight. I'm training for a squabble 2026 with Border Wars TBV, the boxing voice. And y'all wouldn't let me get my workout. That's musty. That's disgusting.
Rich
That's musty. Ed Energy from Planet Fitness. But it does pose the question. We see a lot of broccoli heads, a lot of the alpaca boys, you know, the younger guys wearing Crocs at the gym. I say this is a no, no anytime.
Covino
I think it's fine.
Rich
But what do you think? If it's in sports mode, that means it has a little strap on the heel?
Covino
I don't know. I say if you're not. If you're not doing cardio on a treadmill or you're not moving around in the cardio section if you're just on the bench press or you're doing deadlifts or on a piece of equipment I.
Rich
Feel like if you're wearing crocs at a gym you're not working that hard you need flat shoes y here I.
Covino
Applaud this right why is that if.
Danny G
You'Re just doing weights Rich is right you could have hugh heft slippers look.
Rich
Anyway you get no respect for me period what are you a three year.
Spot
Old what grip doing bench crocs how.
Covino
Do you bench who's who's who's putting who's wearing special shoes to do the the pec deck or or lap machine.
Spot
They don't hold on your feet very well they're not good to wear with.
Rich
Any you need that little clog buckle in the back any lower body requires flat shoes you know what these dudes.
Danny G
Are not working leg let's be honest.
Rich
But let's get your feedback at Covino.
Covino
And Rich at Fox sports radio Riva.
Rich
Dare you baby see you in the promised land goodbye.
