Hey, thanks for listening to the Best of Cabino and Rich podcast. Be sure to catch us live every day from 5 to 7pm Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific, on Fox Sports Radio.
Freddie Rodriguez
Find your local station for Cavino and rich@foxsportsradio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching FSR. How are you not glued just to see what happens? I mean, it became so drama filled. Such a drama show, as Triple G would say, such drama show that the President got involved. People screaming, racism, everyone trying to figure out why. How did this happen? What a crazy weekend it was revolving around Shador Sanders. We had never been so glued for so long to the NFL draft.
Wilmer Valderrama
Best TV ratings ever for day three of a draft, no doubt.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I mean, if it was more than eight people, I'd say the ratings were beat, no doubt, by day three, the fourth and fifth round. The simple fact that you were sitting around with that on the background, casually listening when a potential team came on the board. Picks in, honey. I think it might happen.
Wilmer Valderrama
Get over here.
Freddie Rodriguez
I want to say that I did feel for the Sanders family, respectfully, like, I can only imagine what it was like behind closed doors, right? The stress and the drama and just the shock of it all. Because it seemed a little unfair. Or is it? We'll speculate.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
They got money, fame and talent and a Lot of things going in their favor.
Freddie Rodriguez
Just as a spectator who loves drama, I fully admit, as unfair as it may have been or as stressful as it may have been for the family, I took great joy in the. In the drama of it all. Just in the drama. Like, I can't believe this is going on.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
As the meme went that you and Danny G. We were all sending over the weekend. The super bowl doesn't prove that the NFL is king. Having 250,000 people stand in a parking lot to hear 32 men's names called, that proves that the NFL is king.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah. That's wild when you really think about it. In the cold, no less. Just in the cold. There's no like event.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah. And that's the smaller city that the NFL has held a draft.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah. There's no. Is there a live band that I don't know about? But there's nothing but people's names.
Wilmer Valderrama
They did have a house band.
Freddie Rodriguez
Did they have a house. But no one's going there to see the house band. But really it's just to hear people's names called. 250,000 people out there with their earmuffs and freezy freakies on. Crazy. That's how big NFL is.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Unreal. The interest level in something. Like you said, it's just the calling of 32 men's names fanatics. Hundreds of thousands of people. It's amazing. NFL king. So how is Shinore? Now that I built a suspense. How is Shinore Sanders? Like a peach cobbler. Before I tell you, let me set up a few things. You see people talking about, could there be collusion or racism? Camino, you hit me with the fact right before the show of the first round. Of the 32 men chosen, how many were African American?
Freddie Rodriguez
30 were men of color, 29 were African American.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
So we're talking two white linemen.
Freddie Rodriguez
Here it is. The top three draft picks were black. Six out of 10 were black. And again, 29 out of the first 32. And we're black players.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I made the. The comment on social media, I did a little post at Covino and Rich that I think there's something we all. Not all of us, but the casual non football fan that just love to jump in on the conversation are forgetting a simple fact about any draft teams go after what their needs. 27 of the 32 teams, their needs, talent, potential.
Freddie Rodriguez
But yeah, their needs is. Is primary. I'd say.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah, 27, I'd say of the 32.
Freddie Rodriguez
Teams and this draft wasn't a quarterback heavy needed Draft.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And arguably, as Dan Beyer pointed out last week, they rated all of last year's quarterbacks higher than the batch this year. So 27 of the 32 teams arguably had no interest in a quarterback. The Buffalo Bills, they got Josh Allen. They're not picking a quarterback. Up next, the Eagles not picking a quarterback. You could name 27ish of the teams that have no interest in wasting a pick anytime early on on a quarterback. You, the Bengals, you pick in a quarterback. You just gave Joe Burrow that money. You could say that about again. I'd say 27 of the 32 teams, which means it leaves you 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 teams.
Freddie Rodriguez
Five teams. And if you rubbed any of those teams the wrong way, now you're cut down to maybe two or three teams or maybe none at all. I will say this before we get it going. People were screaming racism. A lot of people were screaming that over the weekend because there was the sense of, well, why? But maybe it's as simple as the interview process. Maybe it's as simple as he did blow the interview process. I don't know why and I don't think it was racism, but I hundred percent believe something was held against him. Listen, I just don't think it was the color of his skin.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I said this to you the other day. I think there's nothing cooler than someone with confidence. Remember the other day we talked about the difference between confidence and arrogance when it comes to dating regular people at your job. It doesn't need to be athletes. And I said there's that thin line between confidence and arrogance. There were two places that these young men hung out while they were waiting for the draft. One, as you pointed out backstage, what looked like an Ashley Furniture warehouse, all dressed up, ready to be called, walking down that sweet long hallway, putting on their lids hat. And the other option was at home with their friends and family. Shador Sanders was the one guy that had a special party room with the word legend on the wall. So that right there you could say is indicative of what this young man brings to the table. And if you interpret that as arrogant instead of confident, then he's not your guy.
Freddie Rodriguez
Well, you can interpret it as a, as a me type of guy and less of a team type of guy. We don't know that to be true. Be legendary is the family mantra. Legendary is sort of his thing. He goes by look. I think he rubbed some people the wrong way. I think people have a hard time believing that. And that's why he went 1 44th in the pick. It was wild to see no one here. Let's get it straight. We've said this over and over again. Because when you talk racism and everything else got to be very clear. Everybody here grew up idolizing his dad. Huge fan of his dad. I go as far back as his Yankee days. I was a fan of his dad.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I'm a 49ers fan. That Deion Sanders was the reason the 49ers got over the humps.
Freddie Rodriguez
So nobody.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I'm a coach prime fan.
Freddie Rodriguez
Nobody rooting against Shador. In fact, I hope he uses this as fuel to the fire. And maybe this is life's way of giving him what he needed, which is humility. If that was the problem, if that was the issue, and based on all the reports or a lot of reports that we're seeing, coaches said he rubbed them the wrong way. I find that much easier to believe than racism when 29 of the 32 were black. Round. Now, Danny. First round.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Danny G. You. You said you saw a pretty cool thought about the Raiders, who were one of those five teams that could potentially have wanted a quarterback.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah. And it's interesting because Dan Beyer and I thought that Jalen Milroe would be a good choice for the Raiders backup. He winds up going to the Seahawks with the pick they got for Geno Smith. So that was ironic. But Charles Robinson, he tweeted this out. He said, Tom Brady knows. Dion Brady mentored Shador. Of course, Brady is advising the Raiders on the QB spot. And this was during the weekend. They've passed Shador eight times so far with six picks and two trade downs. There's zero chance Brady and the Raiders are wielding a Sanders grudge. Zero. And yet they're passing something.
Freddie Rodriguez
I do, again, 100% believe something was held against them. It could be the media circus that surrounds him. It could be his dad. I don't know. It could be the interview process, which we alluded to already. But what I started to realize, too, as the numbers went on and on and on, it became more evident to me that something was going on and that other teams were probably backing off even more because it became more and more of a spectacle and even more and more of a circus on whoever picks them at that point.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Again, the draft in the NFL, a lot of these guys do end up being part of the team or getting a fair shot. So with that said, you. You have to keep in mind that people are going after their needs. I saw the Buffalo Bills GM talking about how we went all defense, because that's what they needed. Teams go after their needs.
Freddie Rodriguez
And this was a very lineman heavy draft because that was the need for.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
The most part, I think Shador Sanders is like peach cobbler. Now before I tell you how Dan Buyer, did you have any thoughts while you were watching this go down?
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah, I mean a lot of thoughts on it. But the only thing that I was going to weigh in because you guys mentioned Dion and his role in your guys lives. I don't think that this is anything new in the NFL where at some point if the talent doesn't, doesn't overtake the issues or the distractions, you're not going to invest. If Deion wasn't as great as he was, he wouldn't have gone fifth overall in the 1989 draft. But the Atlanta Falcons felt it was worth it and sure seemed like it was. And then going on to the Niners and the Cowboys, Eli Manning, the same thing. Like in terms of if you're the Chargers at that point and he's telling you don't draft me. And you're like, well, nobody's going to tell me what I'm going to do. Talent wins over. They know that they can then trade Eli and get a bunch of different stuff. It didn't match up with Shador Sanders. And I think that that story, while it came in a different form or in a different package that we're used to, has gone on in the NFL for decades.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
No doubt. And what I love about this story is whether people are saying collusion, racism, this, that whatever your angle is, or hey, he just wasn't needed or wanted by those teams. I think the reality is he got drafted by one of the few teams where I think he will have a shot to start at some point next year. So let's say he does get drafted in the third round by the Bengals or third round or fourth round by the Eagles, he's never going to see the field. He actually ended up in a scenario, one of the few where this young man could actually start next year and win the job.
Freddie Rodriguez
That's the silver lining. But on the flip side of that argument, 144th pick, fifth round is a little more expendable.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
But if you, if you Cavino get the opportunity, isn't that what the draft is all about? Getting the opportunity to hit camp and pedal the medal, win this job. And Chidor Sanders, if he has the talent that we all believe he does in a quarterback room with Joe Flacco and a couple other young dudes should, or Sanders should, in his mind Be like, I'm going to win this job.
Freddie Rodriguez
And turn this dilemma into dilemma. Yeah, we're all excited to see it.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
How is he like peach cobbler?
Freddie Rodriguez
How in the world. Rich, tell us, tell us, how is Shadar Sanders like peach cobbler?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I always try to think of a dumb analogy, and I know you guys get a kick out of my dumb analogy, so here goes. Let's say you're at a party and there's a dessert table. Like spot. What did you call. What do you call dessert table? You use some fancy word before.
Wilmer Valderrama
Oh, a Viennese table at a wedding.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
A Viennese. Look at this guy.
Freddie Rodriguez
Oh, with like fondue. Yeah, like little. Like little treats, little pet foods.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Let's say there's little creme brulees, snacky snacks. Let's say there's cheesecake cannolis on the tower. Oh, a chocolate. What about a chocolate tower?
Freddie Rodriguez
Don't mind if I fondue.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Now there's a peach cobbler at this dessert table. My goodness. You know what, Danny G. You really want a piece of that peach cobbler. But, you know, you've noticed no one's really touching the peach cobbler.
Freddie Rodriguez
Not a peach guy.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
But you know what? People are going after the cheesecake and the creme brulee and all the little treats.
Freddie Rodriguez
All the cookies are going fast.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And as time goes by, you're like.
Wilmer Valderrama
Actually, I like cobbler.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
You know what? Maybe the Browns like cobbler, too. But you know what? When you see that no one else is touching it, you're confident that I could come. I could sit down, have a cup of coffee, have my cheesecake. I could come back and I betcha that peach cobbler still going to be there. And I think there came a point, and I'll give you the point that for me, when the Raiders had back to back picks, I believe 98 and.
Wilmer Valderrama
99, yeah, they went o line and.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
They went o line o line. And then the next day when you're like, all right, here we go. We're going to start the day two now.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
108 and the Steelers and the Saints and everyone, no one's going. I feel like Cleveland might have said, oh, I think we want him. But you know what? Much like the peach cobbler, I could come back later.
Freddie Rodriguez
And it's still going to be there.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And it's still going to be there. Because if everyone else had a chance to already get a slice of that peach cobbler and they're not going for it, if by the certain point you, you, you Got a chance to look and say, all right, I'm gonna make a pick. I pick again in. Cause, you know, in the later rounds, it's all mixed up. So a team may have a pig, and then 15 picks later, have another pick. If you do the math and look in between. All right, well, I know this. They're not going to take Shador. So I'm going to fulfill my safety need or my o. Line need. And when I get everything I need, then I will pick up Shador Sanders.
Freddie Rodriguez
What you're saying is Shador Sanders is like peach cobbler. Because even the people that showed interest in peach cobbler made it clear they weren't taking any because they were taking cookies. So, you know, we'd come back later.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It'S gonna be there.
Wilmer Valderrama
It could. It could wind up being a mistake, though. What if you waited too long? You. You go to the. What do you call it? Spot a Viennese table, and. And there's just crumbs left. And then your auntie comes over to the table and starts raving about how delicious that peach cobbler was.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
That's the risk took. But I think there were a few teams playing almost. Almost like dessert table.
Freddie Rodriguez
Rich is right.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
NFL draft roulette.
Freddie Rodriguez
Essentially, it was evident no one was taking them. The people that even were interested.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
You're playing chicken.
Freddie Rodriguez
Show they weren't going to take them.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
You're playing chicken at that point. And I think eventually there were teams that were like, all right, we'll take him if he drops to this. They were playing a round of how far could this go? Chicken. Because they're like, all right, well, guys, we still need secondary help. Man, I love Shador. No one else is picking him. Get that great. Get that great free safety from lsu, and then we'll come back and get him later. It got to the point where it was almost laughable that pass, pass, pass, that you thought he'd still be there. And I think Cleveland, we may look back in five years when Shador Sanders, for all we know, he matures into a great NFL quarterback, and we say, my goodness, did Cleveland play this draft right?
Freddie Rodriguez
This peach cobbler is fantastic. I can't believe everyone didn't eat it. That's what we're going to say.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What did you do? You ate creme brulee. What a fool.
Freddie Rodriguez
Peach cobbler is amazing.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
My question is, you had some Jackson tart to get it. Oh, hey, let it leave now. Very good.
Wilmer Valderrama
And also the don't mind if I fondue. Very good.
Freddie Rodriguez
Oh, yeah, I liked it then why.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Did the Browns load up on apple.
Wilmer Valderrama
Strudel, you know with another quarterback like why did they do that?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Because I think, I think plentiful quarterbacks we learned with Michael Penix Jr last year what happened Kirk Cousins. Why would you pick a quarterback? It's a fickle position, my friend.
Freddie Rodriguez
Oh and it might be as simple as this. The Giants start like maybe it's as simple as dart's a better fit for that team.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
But why did Cleveland go with another quarterback? That's a great question, Sam.
Wilmer Valderrama
Now they have five and I think Rich to his point that's the eye test for those of us who watched college football we're like that QB's not as good as Shador. So there's there's more to this.
Freddie Rodriguez
That's why I said Danny G. I don't believe the color of his skin was the issue but I hundred percent do believe that something was an issue and held against and I think again.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
My guess and I'm no you know that's some blowhard on the radio that's accuse what's going to happen But I'll tell you my thoughts. I think I'm just a doofus on the radio. I think next year pause.
Freddie Rodriguez
You're a doofus in real life, not just on the radio.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Thank you.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah. Let's just make it clear.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Very clear.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I think next year we're all going to be sitting around here in the fall. Me, you spot, Danny G. Sam, Dan Byer and we're going to be talking about Dan Byer is going to do an update and be like guys, this just in. Shador is going to be starting week three of the NFL.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
He gets his chance.
Freddie Rodriguez
Watch because got to watch now I.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Think that when you got five quarterbacks they're going to break for camp. We're going to see it sooner than later and I think it's a great story. Just another reason I was chatting with Camino over the weekend saying like these stories with the NFL salivates over.
Wilmer Valderrama
I'm curious to see on who does what in terms of what was the. The the Mary date.
Freddie Rodriguez
You know, whatever the Mary kills.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah.
Wilmer Valderrama
You got five quarterbacks. Sean Watson's out of the picture but.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I want to marry Joe Flacco.
Wilmer Valderrama
You're not, you're not carrying four.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I know.
Wilmer Valderrama
So you're likely carrying three. Are you really going to carry three rookies? Are you going to trade Kenny Pickett now to another team after acquiring him? If someone needs one they've got an. They got an Interesting situation that will.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
He could go eat chicken cutlets with Tommy DeVito. He's trying to figure out the same thing, like, what's going on here.
Wilmer Valderrama
There were national articles this morning trying to stir it up to DB's point, saying Shador could be cut before the preseason's over.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Let's go over it. So we have Joe Flacco, who I.
Freddie Rodriguez
Think would be a great mentor and.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
A guy that would be okay taking the backseat.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah. You bring him back after not wanting him back next year, it's almost like a. Hey, we messed up. We'd like to. From what he did two years ago.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And veteran leadership won a Super Bowl. It seems like a really good dude.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yes.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And leader Joe Flacco. You got Chador.
Freddie Rodriguez
That's it right there.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And then give me the other two.
Freddie Rodriguez
Who you got?
Wilmer Valderrama
Gabriel.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Gabriel Chador.
Freddie Rodriguez
And Pickett.
Wilmer Valderrama
Kenny Pickett.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Kenny Pickett.
Wilmer Valderrama
Joe Flacco. Deshaun Watson.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Man, that is something else, huh? Is. Is Deshaun. The ownership of Cleveland already said they swung and missed on. Yeah, Deshaun Watson, so it would be shocking to see him play again. So cross him off. As. As I said in major league. Cross him off then.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah. You could just not clear him.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah. So, desean.
Freddie Rodriguez
So I see. You know, I think odd man out is in the f Marry kill scenario.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah. Who's that?
Freddie Rodriguez
Can he pick it? Yes, he can.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Gabriel Pickett. Well, Gabriel.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yes, he can.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Gabriel could show up to camp and be like, ooh, not what we thought.
Freddie Rodriguez
It's between those two.
Wilmer Valderrama
Then Gabriel cutting a third round pick out of training camp is almost unheard of. So this dead cap hit for Deshaun Watson. $172.3 million.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Oh, man.
Wilmer Valderrama
Have you ever heard of a dead money cap hit that size?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
You know, crazier things have happened because, you know, when Mel Kuiper's head was about to explode, and he kept talking about like, oh, in the past, this guy was. In this round. Drew Brees in this round.
Freddie Rodriguez
He made it uncomfortable. You know, everyone handled it pretty well, like, hey, Shador was picked finally. 1 44th. We're rooting for him now. Yeah, that was a little odd. Someone. Something rubbed someone the wrong way, but he.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
He.
Freddie Rodriguez
We wish him the best. Mel Kuiper was still really mad. If you realized that. And they're.
Wilmer Valderrama
They're not going to cut desean Watson. They just won't clear him medically. I think, like, that's ultimately just. They're not going to clear him medically and take him off of injured reserve. Which could be a. Desean's going to get his money anyway. But still, even if he's out of the picture, like, not cut, you still have four quarterbacks. So what do you do with the four that you have now? Because most teams only have three. Do you just put Shador on practice squad? Like, does that.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Like, it's. It's a. It's a. It's a tricky one. Yeah.
Freddie Rodriguez
But if he ends up on practice squad, again, let's be realistic. This is a league of winning. Right. If he ends up on a practice squad, it's probably because he deserved to be on the practice squad, not because anyone has something against him. I don't believe that at this point, he's on the team.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It's a winning league.
Freddie Rodriguez
It's a winning league. And a league, again, that drafted 29 of the first 32 were African American.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And you don't think that if you're the Cleveland Browns organization for viewership and jerseys and fandom, you don't think if Shador had what it takes, they would.
Freddie Rodriguez
If we're going to deal with this media circus, do it. Let's. We might as well lean into it. And, you know, although it was unfortunate to see because we thought it was going to happen sooner and we all waited to see when he would go. The one thing I will admit was really wrong was the prank phone call. I thought that was wrong. And we're going to talk about that next. Plus a hypothetical and last one standing. Rich explained how Shador is like peach cobbler.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah. He's the dessert that you may have wanted on the. On the. What do you call it? Spot. The Venetian of Vienna.
Freddie Rodriguez
Like Vienna.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Oh, the V and E of dessert at a wedding or party. But if you want the peach cobbler and you realize, man, no one else has touched it, you don't need to grab it right away. It will be there.
Freddie Rodriguez
It will be there later on. And I made the point of I hundred percent do believe something was held against the kid. I do. I just don't know what. I just don't know what it. What it was. But it's easier to believe that it was the interview process. It's harder for me to believe racism's involved. When you look at the numbers and you look at the league when, like.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
90% of the league is African American, like, what are we talking about?
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah, but I'm not saying that racism doesn't exist. I'm not saying any of that. I'm just saying I don't believe that in this case. But I do believe 100% that something was held against them because it just went on and on too long. But we'll take your phone calls to wrap it up. We have lots to get to today. We have a great hypothetical to get to as well.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What I thought was, ironically, headspun.
Freddie Rodriguez
I was gonna say, who started this narrative? Dude, so many people and big names were leaning into it.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Stephen A. Leaned into it.
Freddie Rodriguez
A lot of people leaned into that. Yeah. We're not just making that up. And again, maybe your algorithm didn't show you that side of the argument, but believe me, it existed. I'd say it was. It was like a 60, 40 sort of thing. 40% were screaming racism over the weekend. And again, that's not to say that it doesn't exist. Of course it does.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah, no doubt.
Freddie Rodriguez
So let's go to the phones. 877-99-NOx.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What I thought was interesting was one of the guys chosen before Shador Sanders, that everyone's like, oh, interesting. For the New Orleans Saints, they chose shock. Right. And he is, what, 26 years old?
Freddie Rodriguez
He's been around for a minute.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah, he's in his, like, mid to late twenties.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
There's. There's pictures of him as a kid floating around social media where he played ball as a kid with Cody Bellinger. And he's like Brock Purdy's age, and they grew up together, so he's just one of those guys that injuries and red shirt years, and it took it, you know, that took its toll. And he's finally getting his chance.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah, he's 25.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
25. Going to be 26 this year. And interestingly enough, it was Louis Riddick, a black broadcaster, who was his biggest cheerleader, saying, I would have taken him way before Shador. So the race thing, I hate that argument when it's not. When there's no signs of it to me.
Freddie Rodriguez
Go to the phones. Your thoughts. How is Shador? Like peach cobbler. Do you agree? And we're giving away prizes, so stick around. Who do we got?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
That's big Burt in Georgia.
Freddie Rodriguez
Hey, Bert.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Hey, guys.
Wilmer Valderrama
Thank you.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
You guys are always great.
Wilmer Valderrama
Look forward to always hearing you. So here's the thing. This is a win, win, win, win situation for everybody. Yeah, it's a win win for Shadow because this is the anti LeBron James, Bronny James things.
Freddie Rodriguez
They can't say that there was any type of nepotism in it. He only has to stay around for three years before he re ups. And if he would have went, if anything, dad Worked against him, if anything.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah, so. And plus, when are you going to.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Get a fourth round draft pick that's.
Freddie Rodriguez
Going to already put jerseys out the.
Wilmer Valderrama
Door, Butts in the seat, without a doubt.
Freddie Rodriguez
Without a doubt with a 4th rounder.
Wilmer Valderrama
So they everybody wins. Plus, he didn't take that money from anybody else. So everybody went in the first round is going to get their money, get paid and play.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And based on what Chador Sanders says, he doesn't need money. Guys holding up his Rolexes, driving fancy cars like money's not the issue for this young man. He is not the guy that needs to, you know, get the money. Now let's go to Andre in Mississippi. What's up, Andre? Yes, sir.
Freddie Rodriguez
What up? Hey, you know, just like I know.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
NFL hard knocks is going to be the Cleveland Browns.
Freddie Rodriguez
It could be. Oh, that would be drama. Show to the max. Oh, that is. Is that a strong possibility? I say if they haven't had a team in mind already, yes, with those five quarterbacks. But like Rich said before, the silver lining here, and it does work out for everybody is that he gets to start or he has the solid chance to start. Now they could do a new season.
Wilmer Valderrama
Of quarterback on Netflix with just the Cleveland Browns.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Just Cleveland.
Freddie Rodriguez
That's true.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
You know, it's interesting, you forget it was only a couple of years ago that my 49ers chose simply based on athleticism and pure what looked to be a skill set. Trey lance with the third pick. And at the very end the joke was Mr. Irrelevant. Do you mean the guy that's about to get paid 50 plus million dollars a year? Brock Purdy. So quarterbacks are found in all rounds of the draft. How often do first rounders flop?
Freddie Rodriguez
I think fifth round, though the stat was they don't really usually translate. There was some stat to back that back up the fact that it rarely happens.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Sometimes the sun will shine on your ass. Is that the phrase?
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah, sure, man. Roll with it.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Because Brock Purdy. Look at what it took Brock Purdy to start in the NFL. It took a few things. It took Trey Lance to stink and get hurt.
Freddie Rodriguez
Garoppolo.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It took Garoppolo to sort of get back in there and then for him to get hurt. And you and I were at that game in San Francisco when they were playing the Dolphins. And when he got in that game, everyone, including me, a Niners fan, was like, who's it? Brock Bruce, the guy behind Brock Purdy, where was he? Well, the Mr. Irrelevant Guy. It took Lance stinking and getting hurt and Garoppolo then to also get hurt for Brock Purdy to get his chance. And now he's about to make, like I said, 50 plus million dollars a year.
Freddie Rodriguez
This the side story I do want to acknowledge too though before we get to the rest of the phone calls and Dan Buyer is the fact that in 2018 it did resurface. Deion Sanders tweeted out that he'd never want to go to the Browns or allow his son to go to the Browns. He'd pull an Eli Manning and bounce. So that didn't really age well. But let's take an update and then get back to your phone calls. DB what's up man?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Hey Dan Byer Hey Rich.
Wilmer Valderrama
Is Mets leading those Nationals right now? Three nothing in the sixth inning. It's day baseball. Sorry Cavino. Just the way it is. Mets up three nothing. But not the only news out of D.C. today, guys. The Washington Commanders finalized their deal with the District of Columbia to build the new stadium on the side of their old stadium, RFK Stadium. The new facility, which the commanders will put $2.7 billion towards, could open as soon as 2030. It'll feature a glass roof which would allow the facility to host Super Bowls and final fours. About $1.15 billion in public funds also going towards the stadium, along with the 2.7 billion put forth by the Commanders. It's nostalgia overload as Wilmer Valderrama and Freddie Rodriguez welcome another amigo to their podcast, Dos Amigos. Wilbur's friend and former that 70s show.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Castmate Topher Grace stops by the speakeasy.
Wilmer Valderrama
For a two part interview to discuss his career and reminisce about old times.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
We were still in that place of.
Freddie Rodriguez
Like, what will this experience become? And you go, you're having the best time. But it was like such a perfect golden time.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Listen to Dos amigos on the iHeartRadio.
Wilmer Valderrama

She bled for her art and it always felt like to me after the Attitude era, once a wrestler gets cut and you See real blood coming out of their mouth or real blood coming out of their head, the crowd kind of goes, hey, respect. And they kind of give you that nod, right?
Freddie Rodriguez
You go, wow, every one of these.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Guys is bleeding from of, bro.
Wilmer Valderrama
That's literally like blood, sweat, and tears.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
That's all they got is blood.
Wilmer Valderrama
We're talking Cody, we're talking Ria, Roman, Seth, Tiffany. The future of the business is bright. And if you watched Mania and you're still buzzing or if you missed it and want to know what went down, we got you. Listen to this episode of Wrestling with Freddy on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What do you say, Matt? Georgia, you're on with Covino and Rich.
Wilmer Valderrama
First of all, I'm from Georgia.
Freddie Rodriguez
We know peach cobbler around here.
Wilmer Valderrama
There's some ladies that can take a hundred dollars worth of stuff and make stuff you don't want to eat. And your Grandma put about $9 in some stuff that you want to take home with you. So what I'm trying to say is.
Freddie Rodriguez
He gets his chance.
Wilmer Valderrama
Two things real quick. First, he don't need to be telling the NFL, if you don't want to change your identity, don't worry.
Freddie Rodriguez
You know, all that.
Wilmer Valderrama
But the racism part needs to go away, y'all. I mean, the league's 80% black. Half the coaches are black. Can we get past that?
Freddie Rodriguez
Well, here's the thing, too, though. You know, there are a lot of cases where that would apply, and when you just throw it out there all the time, it waters those significant stories down a little bit. Like, this is not one of them. It's his attitude. It's the interview process. It's much easier to believe it was something other than that.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah. Richard in Wrightwood. What's up, man? Hey, guys. Okay. I think there's an elephant in the.
Freddie Rodriguez
Room here that nobody's paying attention to.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I've never seen anybody so arrogant and so pompous.
Freddie Rodriguez
And his father cultivated that in him. His dad should be ashamed of himself for doing that.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I mean, I don't know about ashamed. I like to say, again, confidence and arrogance, thin line. I think maybe he's a young man still trying to find that balance.
Freddie Rodriguez
And let's keep this in mind. Arrogance, cockiness, confidence, whatever you want to call it, none of those are illegal. Right? He's not a bad kid. He never did anything wrong. You might not like his attitude. That's why it's really. It's really easy to believe. He just was a Little much or rubbed people the wrong way in the interview process.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It'd be like a young editor coming in here to Fox Sports Radio and telling Big Mike, who runs this place, who? Mike, here's my hours. Here's how it's going to be. And just so you know, you're lucky to have me here.
Freddie Rodriguez
Well, you better back it up then.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah, exactly.
Wilmer Valderrama
Well, obviously Mike doesn't run anything around here, but that's beside the point. I agree with the caller in the fact of that Dion does bear a lot of the responsibility because who's going to tell Shador. No. Who's going to tell anybody in that inner circle. In that inner circle is going to tell Dion. No.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah.
Wilmer Valderrama
No one's there. Dion's the only one that can do it. So while it may not be ultimately him and be a disgrace, I don't mind the marketing and everything you do with Colorado. There is a responsibility on Dion shoulders that I. That I think he needs to bear.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Agreed. Sean in Mississippi. Rapid fire. Wrap it up. What's up, man?
Wilmer Valderrama
What I got to say is the NFL has made more multimillionaire African Americans.
Freddie Rodriguez
Than any other sport statistically, if you look it up.
Wilmer Valderrama
And another thing I got to say, one can.
Freddie Rodriguez
One can throw a needle. Cam Ward, if he wouldn't have transferred. He was still the first round a year before. He wouldn't have transferred.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Sanders can't.
Wilmer Valderrama
He's a check down passer.
Freddie Rodriguez
There's a big difference. And one has an attitude with flashiness and one don't.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
There's a funny clip of them working out together.
Freddie Rodriguez
One comes with a circus.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
There's one. There's a funny clip of them working out together. And Cam Ward's like, I'd have. I'd have a 90% percentage completion if I threw little dump off passes every time. So, hey, listen, I think it'll make for an exciting season. I wish Shador Sanders luck. I think we all do. We'll see what happens. Right? More Kavino and Rich next.
Freddie Rodriguez
This Bill Belichick interview. Oh, my goodness. So embarrassing. The interviewer on CBS asks a pretty simple question.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
How did you guys meet?
Wilmer Valderrama
Not talking about this.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
No, no.
Freddie Rodriguez
It's a topic.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
That's a topic everyone's talking about.
Freddie Rodriguez
I guess we're not talking about that. Like, way to undermine a leader of men. If she ate super bowl rings, if.
Wilmer Valderrama
She so hands on. Spotty. If she's so hands on, why did she allow him to wear that shirt with the holes in it?
Freddie Rodriguez
It's no, babe.
Wilmer Valderrama
I don't budge on this.
Freddie Rodriguez
That shirt cost $3,000. So that was very viral over the weekend. We have. Do you have any thoughts you'd like to share before we move on? Because it is kind of wild to see. Here's a guy who everybody respects, but she's wearing a pantalones.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I look at it this way. It has nothing to do with sexism or being sexist. It's a. He's a man that's known to be a leader of men. So to hear his 50 year younger girlfriend like sort of zip it, zip, zip him up. Just. It feels weird because he makes him look weak. He's, you know, it's a guy that is called the shots for the most powerful, strong monster men. And that was 20 something year old hottie is like, Bill, you will listen to me.
Freddie Rodriguez
And I get it. It's her story to tell as well, right? How they met. And maybe you want to keep that private, but guess what? That all went out the window when you started to date Bill Belichick, who's a very public figure. It's a fair question. And it was sort of interrupted in a rude way. It's like, yo, let this guy do what he does.
Wilmer Valderrama
Also, we were under the impression that they met on an airplane. And now there's like question as to where they actually.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And how they actually met.
Freddie Rodriguez
Exactly.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I mean, the story was that they sat near each other on a plane and they commented on a book each was reading or something. Right. I mean, it's not like they met on sugarbabies.com unless they did. Allegedly. I'm just saying. I doubt that. But Sugar babies, isn't that a candy? Babies, A candy. Guys meet young girls.
Freddie Rodriguez
It's like your wife, Rich, like coming in here and telling you that you're a bonehead or something. Or like my girlfriend barging in, telling me to zip it. It's like, hey, this is my arena. Like, this is where I'm supposed to talk. It just makes you look like, I.
Wilmer Valderrama
Don'T know, like you're Rich's wife only does that when they're grilling.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
That's.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah, again, that's at least in the private. You talk when I tell you to talk.
Wilmer Valderrama
Rich grilling.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
On a related note, have you guys seen that clip of one of the Baldwins, probably Alec, where he's on a red carpet?
Wilmer Valderrama
Oh, yeah.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And his. His woman speaks on behalf of him and all the comments like, yo, is he a little B or what?
Freddie Rodriguez
Like, she's like, excuse me, I'm talking. She's like talk to the hand. Yeah, it was very rude.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah, it's. It's rough, man.
Freddie Rodriguez
And by the way, that goes both ways. That's not. You said sexist.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
No, it's.
Freddie Rodriguez
I would say anyone interrupting, man or.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Woman, if I interrupted my wife or anyone interrupted their significant other, like, she's not gonna do that. Like, y'all slow down, big guy. I think it's weird, that's all.
Freddie Rodriguez
Exactly. Can't help but notice, that's why I went viral. Yeah, but another thing that went viral.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
With all due respect, it doesn't sound respectful, but with all due respect, if he's a 70 year old guy getting with that, then I would deal with it.
Freddie Rodriguez
Oh, yeah, he can.
Wilmer Valderrama
He's happy.
Freddie Rodriguez
He's happy. Yay.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I mean, dude, honestly, as my dad.
Freddie Rodriguez
Would say, teach his own with privilege.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah.
Wilmer Valderrama
And Rich, you called her a hottie, but a lot of the Internet's not impressed. Maybe it's her personality.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Well, dude, I think she's good looking. In fact, you think most 70 year olds are grabbing saggy bodies instead? She does.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yes.
Wilmer Valderrama
In comparison.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah, most people in their 70s are. Most people in their 70s are grabbing the booty or gut of a 70 year old gray haired old lady.
Freddie Rodriguez
Well, look, her looks are debatable and.
Wilmer Valderrama
That'S fine, but she's got Shador Sanders arrogance. You're not Salma Hayek. Calm down.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah, I'll tell you what, we could all agree that her interrupting that CBS interview, interjecting in that way was not a good look.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Or as you say, awkward burgers.
Freddie Rodriguez
Awkward burgers were served for sure. Another thing that went viral. We alluded to it. And this is just to keep you in on what the kiddos are doing. The weenials don't fall for this. Yeah, your kids are looking through your old yearbooks or love notes or whatever. They're trying to find names from your past, preferably an old crush or your first boyfriend or girlfriend. And they'll say, I'm starving, I'm so hungry I could eat. Fill in the blank. Fill in the name. So, Rich, what was your. Do you want to give, like a first crush?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Erica Thorson.
Freddie Rodriguez
Okay, I don't know Erica Thorson. But the joke would be the kid would say, I'm so hungry I could eat Erica Thorson. And Rich is supposed to be like, what? You hear that name and it's gone completely viral all over social media. Kids are getting their parents with it.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And I'm so mad that I find them so entertaining.
Freddie Rodriguez
That's kind of Funny.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What makes me mad is how entertained I am by this stupid trend. I would say it's funny because they'll be like a dad, you know, grilling some burgers. And his kid's like, I'm so hungry, I could eat Jessica Palmero. And the dad's like, wait a second, what did you say?
Freddie Rodriguez
Jessica Palmero. I'm so hungry I could eat Jessica Palmero. Everybody's saying it. Why would you say that? That was my first love.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And it's just watching the parents confusion.
Freddie Rodriguez
It's so dumb.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Dumb. But I find it funny.
Freddie Rodriguez
So that's one thing that went viral, aside from the Bill Belichick stuff. And then the other thing was this question. It was a hypothetical. And if you listen to the Covino and Rich show on Patreon, which run Monday through Thursday, by the way, you're all welcome. Or you pay close attention here on Fox Sports Radio. You know, I really don't get into hypotheticals, but this one's kind of fun and kind of dumb. And it goes along the lines of what we discussed about a month ago. How many Stephen A's would it take to beat one LeBron?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What was the final answer, by the way?
Freddie Rodriguez
Three.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Three was the consensus.
Freddie Rodriguez
That was consensus. It would take three Stephen A. Smiths to beat one LeBron James.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I like it.
Freddie Rodriguez
Over the weekend, a question went viral and I have my thoughts on it, but we want to mix it up, chop it up with you, Fox Sports Radio Nation. The question was, how many people would it take? How many people? How many men? It was, how many men would it take to beat a silverback gorilla? How many men would it take to beat one silverback gorilla?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And then it turned into, could a hundred men.
Freddie Rodriguez
Could a hundred men beat one silverback gorilla? Now, let me just give you the stats. A silverback gorilla could be anywhere from five, five to five, nine standing. But they were. They weigh anywhere from 430 to 500 pounds with an eight foot span. And my thought goes like this. If 100 men went charging at one Silverback Gorilla, if we're gonna put some reality, a little bit of reality into this hypothetical, that silverback grabs the first five to ten guys, ragdolls them, stomps them, pulls their limbs off, pulls their limbs off, tears the head off, and simply by this visual alone, the other 90 flee and run as fast as they could for their life. Therefore, there's no way it could possibly happen. Now, a lot of people are saying that, but a lot of people are saying, dude, if you have a tactic of sorts. And people are committed, like, their lives depend on beating this gorilla.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah. Like, if I told you the. The future of humanity depends on you and 99 other men beating up and killing a silverback gorilla.
Freddie Rodriguez
Do you think 100 men could beat one silverback?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yes. But I think if you took a hundred random men, like, you know, me, you, Danny G. I was Sam, DB Spot. If you took the guys in this room and guys like us, regular guys. I think that the minute I was Sam, ran up to the gorilla and it ripped his head off or pulled his arms off, Danny drew, like, no, thanks.
Freddie Rodriguez
You would run so fast out of fear.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
There would be no way, like, unless.
Freddie Rodriguez
Our fear would never allow us.
Wilmer Valderrama
We didn't have a choice. But if we didn't have a choice, like, if we were in a cage, cage match, you know what?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
He might. The silverback gorilla. All right, then here's the part. The second part, then, Danny, why do.
Wilmer Valderrama
I get my head ripped off first?
Freddie Rodriguez
Because you have a fuzzy head.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah, you stay out of this, Ichabod Crane.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Sam, in this hypothetical, you're on the front line.
Freddie Rodriguez
So again, the question then, what went viral over the weekend is, can 100 men beat one silverback gorilla? And I will pose this, and I want to hear all your thoughts, and we'll take your phone calls. What if we said, just for fun. Cause it is Fox Sports. What if it was a hundred linemen? Could 100 linemen easily then beat one silverback?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
All these guys that are like three hundo, six, five.
Freddie Rodriguez
What if we were talking physical specimens? Then I think it's an easy. Yes, I think so. Because you got these big galoots, these Brock Lesnar types, giant men.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Tell me they were like. Like Nick Boses or like Trent Williams.
Freddie Rodriguez
Right?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Like big fellas.
Freddie Rodriguez
Then I'd say, yeah, definitely. But if it's just 100 average men, I think fear alone would not allow this to happen. And I don't think it would be possible. I think we're really underestimating the fury of this gorilla.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
These are the dumb hypotheticals that went into the world of Covino and Rich.
Freddie Rodriguez
When I tell you it went. It was everywhere. This question was everywhere over the weekend. So your thoughts. And you could also share this question with your buddies at work. Because everybody's talking about it. I say no. I say there's no way 100 men could beat one gorilla silverback.
Wilmer Valderrama
This person commented, a human could only depend on somehow gaining the trust of the gorilla pro. Offering it food.
Freddie Rodriguez
Well, that was the other thing. There's a lot of people like, well, we could trick the girl. How do we distract it or trick it, right? Like use our smarts to outlaw.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And then I put it in a sleeper hold.
Freddie Rodriguez
And strategy, like, is there a strategy? Like, do you pull a Van Gundy where a few people grab the leg?
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah, right.
Freddie Rodriguez
You go low, I go high. There's a hundred people. There's got to be a strategy involved that maybe you could outsmart this gorilla. But I don't know, man. These. These dudes are wild when you watch how big and strong they are, I don't know. So that was a hypothetical.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It's a great hypothetical. It's almost as good as the other one I was going to bring to the table, which was do you rather nipples on the end of each finger or your nipples be two fingers?
Freddie Rodriguez
Oh, that's wild. That's a good one. Let me sleep on that one, Rich.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I'll get on that one. And we're going to talk some NBA playoffs coming up. We're going to play a game, last one standing, which is where we give away a Cavino Enrich stainless steel Swiggy. So if you want in, get head, get started early. 87799 on Fox. We'll play that in about 10 minutes or so. But any final thoughts on not only your, your hypothetical, but the draft over the weekend?
Freddie Rodriguez
Well, yeah, I did find it the most intriguing draft I've ever watched. We could all agree on that, right? We all agree that something was held against Shador. We don't think it was his skin color, but something was. Yeah. And that may be something that he brought upon himself or maybe his father. But we also agree on the positive note that he ended up in the best possible situation regardless. Right. Everybody wins.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It's almost like it's if you got stood up at your prom, but because of that, you then met like an amazing girl.
Freddie Rodriguez
That's another great analogy, right?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I mean, like, I mean, we're making it seem like the outcome is. The outcome could be miraculous. It could be like Shador Sanders went against all odds and, you know, proved the world wrong. And he's an elite guy. Like, that's great.
Freddie Rodriguez
What I did find unfortunate, though, was this prank gone wrong. Everybody saw that the Saints GM called up Shador to tell him that he was next in the draft. Take a listen.
Wilmer Valderrama
This is Mickey Loomis here, GM of the Saints.
Freddie Rodriguez
How you doing? Good.
Wilmer Valderrama
How are you, man?
Freddie Rodriguez
Good. Been waiting on you.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah, we have. It's been a long wait, man.
Freddie Rodriguez
No, for sure.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Gonna Take you with our next peak right here, man.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yes, sir.
Freddie Rodriguez
Let's be legendary. Yeah, but you're gonna have to wait.
Wilmer Valderrama
A little bit longer, man.
Freddie Rodriguez
Okay. Sorry about that.
Wilmer Valderrama
Way to go.
Freddie Rodriguez
What does that mean? What. What do you say? I don't know. Are you gonna ask us what it means? And you was on the phone, you heard that. You know what it means? If means that it was a prank. And then the video surfaced of the kids doing it was like all these frat kids.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah.
Freddie Rodriguez
Really got him there. And then it turns out that it was Jax Ulbricht, the son of Jeff Ulbricht, defensive coordinator of the Falcons. The Falcons, who have great history with his dad, which makes it even worse. Right? So it's like, man, that was just cruel. There's. There's a difference between prank and just mean. Like, pranks supposed to be funny, right?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
That's just mean. Mean spirited.
Freddie Rodriguez
And that happens too. Like, you see that blurred line on social media when people are doing like life threatening things, like, that's not a prank. You know, when you, when you're approaching people in public and you're trying to frighten them or whatever, that's not a prank. I'm saying something rude. That's not a prank. You're risking your life and your safety. You're really upsetting people at that point.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I've.
Freddie Rodriguez
I think this is mean.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I've noticed that through the years of us dealing with listeners and, you know, we've, We've met so many great people along the way through Sirius XM and Fox Sports. The one thing I'm fascinated by is how some guys don't know how to bust chops, but they think they do.
Freddie Rodriguez
Right? Yeah. Like there's people go way too low, way too serious.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Some people that know the right way to, you know, bust them on suevos. Right. Like, yeah, so some people are good at that, but some people are like, rude or mean. And like, what? Yeah, I'm just busting your chops.
Freddie Rodriguez
That's too personal. Right. Like, to go at somebody in this. I mean, tension was already high because everyone was waiting around, what's going on with this? And then to do it in such a important moment of their life. The story is that Jax found his dad's, like, list of phone numbers.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah. The iPad was open.
Freddie Rodriguez
And the iPad was open. And he got ahold of a few numbers and pranked a few people. And he did then apologize because it got out that that's who it was. So he apologized and admitted he was wrong. And, you know, I Take. I guess I forgive him for taking accountability, but we still admit it was wrong. But how would you reprimand a 21? We're saying, kid, he's a 21 year old man. Young man, how would you reprimand a 21 year old?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What are you gonna take away his iPad?
Freddie Rodriguez
What do we know?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What are you talking reprimand? He's a grown man.
Freddie Rodriguez
That. That's a question. What do you do if that's your son?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I'm not paying your car insurance.
Freddie Rodriguez
Stephen A. Spoke about it. So Stephen A. Had his words to say about it. How would you handle if you found out it was your son?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It's not criminal, but it's unethical. It's classless. It's amoral to some degree. And I'd like to see the face.
Wilmer Valderrama
Of that kid because sometimes you need to be embarrassed.
Freddie Rodriguez
That's what needs to happen to you now. In my opinion, this kid, I sincerely hope to Jeff Ulbricht.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I sincerely hope he whipped his kid's ass.
Wilmer Valderrama
That's an ass whip. That's.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
That is a required ass whipping. So your dad is a defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. You go into his laptop computer and find a number for Shador Sanders. You and you prank call him.
Freddie Rodriguez
First of all, it was cruel and.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It was classless to Shador.
Freddie Rodriguez
Agreed.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It jeopardized your dad.
Wilmer Valderrama
What if the Atlanta Falcons didn't believe.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It was your dad? That it was just.
Freddie Rodriguez
You know what? That's another great point, too. Really puts Jeff, the defensive coordinator of the Falcons, in a really bad spot that is embarrassing to the Ulbricht family. Like his dad takes his job serious. I think something should be done, though, Rich. Like, you don't think that Jax, the son relies on his dad's wallet a little bit. Something should be done. You don't think he's driving around a sweet car because his dad works for the Falcons?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I don't know. But I will say, you know, interestingly enough, I want to let it be known, because I can't. I promise you, I'm not the only one. You know, when I was saying played that audio, it's the first time I heard it. Want to know why I got cringy every time I saw a pop up on my feed, I'm like, here's the prank phone call. Oh, I don't wanna. Like, I didn't. I didn't want to because I feel like it is classless. And I. I feel like there's a.
Freddie Rodriguez
Time and place that wasn't it for.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
His, you know, to call a bowling alley and be like, hey, do you have ten pound balls? Well, how do you walk? Like. Like that's a prank call in some kid that's 20 that's worked up to this point and say, hey, it's the New Orleans Saints. That's an a hole move. And I, up until that point, Sam, when you played it, I refused to listen to it because I was like, you know what? It's going to make me feel cringy and weird.
Freddie Rodriguez
He pranked someone else too, though. He pranked a few people.
Wilmer Valderrama
Tyler Warren, the tight end.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah, that was it. Yeah. It was not just Shador, but shadow.
Wilmer Valderrama
Warren Cooper DeJean last season.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
And you know what's terrible? Because there's always a kid. Well, that's my point.
Freddie Rodriguez
So you wouldn't do anything. You're saying you couldn't do anything? I guarantee you there's something his dad could do.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Cove. There's, you know, there's also that sense of the response from the athlete like, all right, coach, thank. Let's get to. Thanks. Let's get to work. I've been hoping. What if he was like, man, I've been hoping for the Saints, like, it just. It's a fool's prank. I hate it.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah.
Wilmer Valderrama
And are you that even if you're a youngster, are you that out of touch how much this means to these young men? Like, or the fact that you're putting.
Freddie Rodriguez
Your dad at risk?
Wilmer Valderrama
That too. But you saw Baron Sorrell, who the packers drafted in, what was it, the fourth round, and he walked out and cried in Goodell's arms. The fact that he was even there, the scatter boo.
Freddie Rodriguez
He was crying. Like, anytime you see emotions involved in that way, you're messing with these people.
Wilmer Valderrama
But Covino, no other players were there in the green room or what Rich called Ashley Furniture. Like, Baron Sorrell stayed there by himself for an extra day. I mean, it was cool to watch him come out on stage and he.
Freddie Rodriguez
Said he stayed out for that moment so he could live that out, which was cool because it means so much to these players. They work their whole life like Rich said, which. Which is why this is not a prank. This was just wrong.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I just don't know how to. How do you reprimand? You know what it's like, I would.
Freddie Rodriguez
Say if I was the dad not. And he's driving around a car I was paying for, paid for, I'd be gone. It have to be. I'm sure that he just like him.
Wilmer Valderrama
And his wife or you know, the boy's mom, like, they ripped him a new one.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I would think you humiliated your father in the family.
Freddie Rodriguez
And he knows he.
Wilmer Valderrama
He embarrassed himself. He knows that. So I think that's probably punishing in its punishment in its own right. But I'm like young men not thinking things through. Like, color me shocked because young guys do stupid crap like this all the time.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
No excuse.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah.
Freddie Rodriguez
21 year old Jax Ulbricht learned a pretty big lesson.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
At what age do you think you, Your dad couldn't whoop you at your ass anymore? Because I saw. I saw some clip on social media, unrelated where it's some guy races his son every year on his kid's birthday because he's like, one year my son will beat me in a race. And he's like, not yet. He's like 14 and he's like, I still beat him. Do you think he could whoop his son's ass? Don't you remember there was a point when you were like 17 or 18 and you're like, yeah, I don't know if my dad could whoop my ass.
Freddie Rodriguez
Let me see. How old is Jeff?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
50 something, 40 something.
Freddie Rodriguez
How old is Jeff Ulbricht?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What are you using? Ask Jeeves.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hurry up.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Camino's asking Jeeves.
Freddie Rodriguez
Son came up. Hold up. 48. Okay, so 21 again. The son's 21. He's 48. I'm 48 year olds.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
If you had a 21 year old son, what would you do? Let's say your daughter's 16. We're gonna be 16. What would you do if she was a little older and cut them off.
Freddie Rodriguez
And whatever, wherever it hurts, you know? And that would be probably vehicle. A semester of college, whatever. You don't think that this kid is. Credit card. Yeah, something like that.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What if you're. What if you're.
Freddie Rodriguez
It was just. It was just a little. It was too much.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What if your daughter pulled a prank on someone here at Fox? What if she hit up like Doug Gottlieb and said he had a coaching job?
Freddie Rodriguez
Honestly, it's a great. It's a great way to think about it. I would be furious. This is livelihood.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
We probably don't laugh. Yeah.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah. All right. If she pranked Doug, I'd probably.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What did she call Doug Gottlieb? It was like, you got the job at Duke.
Freddie Rodriguez
You know, like, that would be funny. You're right. But if it was like my boss or something like that. Yeah, you're putting my career and reputation in jeopardy. Something you work so hard to do. That's not something you mess with, man. Yeah, so again, it was wrong for Shador. It was wrong for his dad. Shame on you, Jax.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
You guys are having too much fun with that hypothetical.
Wilmer Valderrama
It's nostalgia overload. As Wilmer Valderrama and Freddie Rodriguez welcome another amigo to their podcast, Dos Amigos. Wilmer's friend and former that 70s show.

Two nights, non stop chaos, legends, surprises, emotions, and some of the best wrestling we've seen coming from wwe. We've got takes, we've got questions, and we have a whole lot of love for what these men and women pulled off at Mania. Tiffany Stratton, she earned her stripes at Wrestlemania. And I don't mean because she won. She bled for her art. And it always felt like to me, after the Attitude era, once a wrestler gets cut and you see real blood coming out of their mouth or real blood coming out of their head, the crowd kind of goes, hey, respect. And they kind of give you that nod, right?
Freddie Rodriguez
You go, wow, every one of these.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Guys is bleeding, bro.
Wilmer Valderrama
That's literally like blood, sweat and tears.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It's all they got is blood.
Wilmer Valderrama

And if you watched Mania and you're still, still buzzing, or if you missed it and want to know what went down, we gotcha. Freddie Prinze Jr.
Let's go.
Freddie Rodriguez
You have five seconds to battle for.
Wilmer Valderrama
Your sports trivia life, man. Oh, I gotta. Yeah, I don't got it.
Freddie Rodriguez
Put your electronic devices down and pick your sports knowledge.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It's CNR's last one standing.
Freddie Rodriguez
Last one standing.
Wilmer Valderrama
All right, four categories ready to go. If needed, a tiebreaker. Each contestant gets five seconds to stay alive in the round. If you run out of time or you answer incorrectly, Iowa. Sam will play this. Don't want to hear that. We keep battling until you are the last one standing. If you win two of the rounds, you are the top dog. Here are the contestants. Seven time winner. Now Steve Covino should be able. Let's go to his right. 10 time winner, Rich Davis.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Catch up one day, maybe.
Wilmer Valderrama
Leader in the clubhouse. 27 time winner, Dan Beyer.
Freddie Rodriguez
Hello.
Wilmer Valderrama
Someone tie this guy up and let's go to the studio lines to see who's playing for a CNR stainless steel Swiggy db. I'll use you for this. Would you love to travel to beautiful Boise, Idaho, Smithsburg, Maryland, Phoenix, Arizona or Leeds, Alabama, the home of Charles Barkley? I think it's been a D.C. day. So let's go to Maryland.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah.
Wilmer Valderrama
All right. That is Doug.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Hi, Doug.
Freddie Rodriguez
Hey, Doug.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
What's going on, fellas?
Wilmer Valderrama
Hey, Doug, what do you do for a living there in Maryland?
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Pest control technician.
Wilmer Valderrama
Go.
Freddie Rodriguez
Nice.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
All right.
Wilmer Valderrama
Spot is the fact checker during this game, by the way. I hate it so much. When I say your name, the clock is going to begin. Here is the first category. Passing you by. You have five seconds to name an NBA player who finished top 20 this past season for most assists per game. Top 20, most assists per game. Covino, you're going to be up first as soon as the timer goes. Now.
Freddie Rodriguez
Luka. Luka.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yes. Wait. Nicole Joseph. No. Oh, hang on. You gotta wait for your name. Oh, wait. Luca. Not in the top 20.
Freddie Rodriguez
Not in the top 20.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Can you repeat the question?
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah. So, NBA player who finished top 20 this past season for most assists per game?
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah.
Wilmer Valderrama
Not in the average per game.
Freddie Rodriguez
Sorry. Yeah. All right.
Wilmer Valderrama
Sorry. Rich.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
LeBron James.
Freddie Rodriguez
LeBron James. Yes.
Wilmer Valderrama
Number six. Beyer. Trey Young. Trae Young. Yes.
Freddie Rodriguez
Number one.
Wilmer Valderrama
Nice one, Doug. Nicolas.
Freddie Rodriguez
Jokic. Yes. Number two.
Wilmer Valderrama
And back to Rich. Three.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Jaylen Brown.
Freddie Rodriguez
Jaylen Brown. Nope.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
No.
Wilmer Valderrama
Byer. James Harden. James Harden. Yes.
Freddie Rodriguez
Number five.
Wilmer Valderrama
Doug. Three, two, one. Out of there. Buyer wins that round.
Freddie Rodriguez
Dang.
Wilmer Valderrama
And some of the ones still on the list there, Spotty. Hang on.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
You like the whole list?
Wilmer Valderrama
I mean, pretty much the whole list. I want to rank it by.
Freddie Rodriguez
Hang on one sec.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I froze.
Wilmer Valderrama
Let's see. Halliburton, number three. Kate Cunningham, number four. We got Harden and LeBron. Chris Paul. Number seven. Chris Paul.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah. Chris Paul.
Wilmer Valderrama
Giannis on there.
Freddie Rodriguez
So a whole bunch. Pretty much the whole list, yeah.
Wilmer Valderrama
All right, second category. 14 with 15. You have five seconds to name one of the 14 MLB teams who have at least 15 wins so far this season. Doug, you're going to be a first as soon as the timer goes. Right now. Okay.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
The Tigers, The Padres.
Wilmer Valderrama
Time. You do one, Doug. One per round for you. All right? One team. He said Tiger. I was sanded. Just. Tigers of 18. Yes. All right. Buyer.
Freddie Rodriguez
I had to catch a straight for that, didn't I?
Wilmer Valderrama
It did. What did he say? He said. He said Tiger.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Padres.
Wilmer Valderrama
I think Dodgers. Dodgers. Yeah. 18. All right, Rich.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I mean, I'll. I'll just get it, by the way. Mets.
Wilmer Valderrama
Mets. I'll give him 20.
Freddie Rodriguez
Even though as of now it's 19. I'll give him the 20.
Wilmer Valderrama
Covino.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yankees.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yankees have 17. Yeah. Doug. Padres. Padres have 17. Beyer. Giants. Giants have 19. Rich.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
The Phillies.
Wilmer Valderrama
Phillies have 15. Covino.
Freddie Rodriguez
No one said the Dodgers, right?
Wilmer Valderrama
Dan did. I did.
Freddie Rodriguez
Oh, you did. Padres. Braves.
Wilmer Valderrama
Braves.
Freddie Rodriguez
No, no. Sorry, brother.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
They're under 500.
Freddie Rodriguez
Dang it.
Wilmer Valderrama
Dou. Three, two.
Freddie Rodriguez
Someone said giants.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yep. Yep. Five seconds over. Sorry. Between Buyer and Rich. Buyer. Cubs. Cubs.
Freddie Rodriguez
Yeah.
Wilmer Valderrama
17. Richie.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Texas Rangers.
Wilmer Valderrama
Rangers. Yes. Have 15. Nice poll. Buyer. Reds. Reds have 15. Rich.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Someone say Twins?
Wilmer Valderrama
No, you didn't.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Twins.
Wilmer Valderrama
Twins.
Freddie Rodriguez
Nah. Not on the list.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Were the Royals.
Wilmer Valderrama
Royals. Not on the list, actually. Yeah. So all that was left was Diamondbacks, Guardians, Mariners and Red Sox. But Byer is the last one standing, though.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I did it. No, I wrote that. Red Sox. I thought someone said it. No one said. No one said it.
Wilmer Valderrama
That is the 28th victory for DB. And the question is, do you think Doug in Maryland is worthy of you mailing that? Because of the groan? 100%. Yes. Yes. All right. Because of the sound effects.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Doug, congrats.
Wilmer Valderrama
Feel that way. Like Rich just felt it. Felt it earlier.
Freddie Rodriguez
I just got to say, if you're going to get a Swiggy, you just got to, you know, keep promoting the show, get a friend involved.
Wilmer Valderrama
Doug, give us that groan one more time. Appreciate it. Appreciate it. Yeah.
Freddie Rodriguez
Thank you, buddy. I'm not talking about that. And it's a really tough game, but so much fun to play.
Wilmer Valderrama
You know what else is frustrating? Third category was called A's and B's. You would have had five seconds to name an NFL team that foxsports.com gave an A, A minus, B plus, or B to. And I can't use that. I can't recycle that for next week. It's gonna be old by then.
Freddie Rodriguez
All that work for nothing. Do it real quick.
Wilmer Valderrama
Really quick. You guys know who got A's? If you had to guess, Giants got an A. Minus.
Freddie Rodriguez
Raiders.
Wilmer Valderrama
Raiders got an A.
Freddie Rodriguez
So I got two.
Wilmer Valderrama
Jacksonville Jags. No.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
With Travis Henry. Come on.
Freddie Rodriguez
The Titans.
Wilmer Valderrama
Titans. No, B. They got a B? Yep.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
49Ers.
Freddie Rodriguez
49Ers.
Wilmer Valderrama
No.
Freddie Rodriguez
No. So another. How many more A's are there? What did you say?
Wilmer Valderrama
Quite a few.
Freddie Rodriguez
Clean.
Wilmer Valderrama
The Raiders, Seahawks got an A according to them. Eagles, A minus. Chicago, A minus. Patriots, a minus.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Danny, I wouldn't have participated in this one. Want to know why?
Wilmer Valderrama
Because I think grading is.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I think grading a draft.
Wilmer Valderrama
Crapshoot.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
No, grading a draft to me is the dumbest thing in sports or sports TV or radio. They do every time.
Freddie Rodriguez
But it would have been fair to see, like, what you would have thought they would have given A to.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
No, I know, but I'm saying I feel like it's. It would be like me saying, oh, you're single. When are you going to blind date with Jessica? No, I bet. And then rating the date before they go on the date. These guys haven't reported to any camp yet. They haven't done anything. They haven't talked to coordinators yet.
Freddie Rodriguez
We're grading the draft how it seems as of now.
Wilmer Valderrama
Some of the. Some of the grading is how these teams maneuver, where they were, who they were, a value pick and things like that.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
It's the most hot air nonsense in the world of sports.
Freddie Rodriguez
All right, Rich, before we wrap it up, I have a question for you.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I have one for you, too, so perfect.
Freddie Rodriguez
Do you put the same amount of clout on any Sports hall of Fame as you do the Rock and Roll hall of Fame? Does the Rock and Roll hall of Fame even compare at all? Is basically my question. Not even close, because the artists were announced for 20, 25, 26.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I think they're all an honor. I mean, any hall of Fame is an honor, for that matter. But I feel like a sports hall of Fame is based very much on statistics. Longevity, championships, music, subjective. So I find that to be an odd thing for a Hall of Fame. Like. Like Cyndi Lauper's in the hall of Fame. No one was more 80s than Cyndi Lauper, but she only has, like, four hits. You might know.
Freddie Rodriguez
I think she's four or five deep.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Tops, you know, and then you see someone like. Who else? Soundgarden. I love them.
Freddie Rodriguez
The White Stripes, Chubby Checker.
Wilmer Valderrama
I don't know.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I just find music so subjective.
Freddie Rodriguez
There was a lot of politics with.
Wilmer Valderrama
The Rock and Roll hall of Fame because of the guy running it for many years.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
He would, like, hold these grudges against.
Freddie Rodriguez
Some of these bands. And then people always love to say outcast. I thought it was the Rock and.
Wilmer Valderrama
Roll Of, Well, I mean, we've been letting in big other genres.
Freddie Rodriguez
Now for what they need to rename it. First of all, I really do believe the music Hall. Geez. So it's Bad Company. Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker. Joe Cocker, Cindy Lauper, Soundgarden, Outkast, Soundgarden and the White Stripes. Yes. And I don't know, for some reason, because of all this, I don't think it holds the same weight as sports teams. And a lot of people say baseball is the hardest to get into just based on the stats, like the milestones. To achieve those milestones in baseball and qualify for the Baseball hall of Fame is probably the hardest to get into.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
I'm thinking Joe Cocker simply because he covered a Beatles song and did it better than the Beatles. What would you do if I also.
Freddie Rodriguez
Sang it at Woodstock? Yeah.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah.
Freddie Rodriguez
It is one of the best covers ever.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
All right, let me ask you a question. I like your hall of Fame question because I do think all hall of Fames are an honor, but I find much more clout in a sports hall of Fame. In the Music hall of Fame. Same again. An honor, regardless. Is the torpedo bat the biggest story in the last five years to go.
Freddie Rodriguez
Away so quick, to be as big as it was.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
To be as big as it was a couple weeks later, it's like torpedo bat.
Freddie Rodriguez
It just goes to show you how fast the news cycle is in life, but especially in sports.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
No, but spot the torpedo bat was like all the rage.
Freddie Rodriguez
It really was. Everybody was talking about torpedo bat because.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Kavino just Anthony Volpe just got up with the bases loaded. Unfortunately for you. Ground it out. Six, four, four. Sat at second. But Volpe, you said there's Volpe with the Volpedo bet. And I just remember thinking to myself, that was the biggest story that we thought was going to be a storyline all year. Like what players and what teams are going to have the Torpedo bet. Fast forward a couple weeks into the season. No one cares even a little.
Freddie Rodriguez
Again, that's just the news cycle and that's just how it is. We're on to the next. Like Jay Z. Especially in sports.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah.
Freddie Rodriguez
Like right now, Shador Sanders. Everybody's talking about it tomorrow. Something else.
Wilmer Valderrama
Oh, yeah. He'll be out of people's minds in a week.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Yeah.
Freddie Rodriguez
Torpedo bat. No one cares anymore.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
All right. Well, hey, I hope everyone has a fantastic Monday. If you need something to watch Apple tv. I mentioned, I mentioned it on Weekend Hobnobbin. Your friends and neighbors. So good.
Freddie Rodriguez
And of course, some great NBA tonight. Enjoy it.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
All right, we'll see you tomorrow. Arrivederchi, baby.
Freddie Rodriguez
See you in the promised land. Goodbye, guys.

Release Date: April 29, 2025
Podcast: The Herd with Colin Cowherd
Hosts: Wilmer Valderrama, Freddie Rodriguez, and Freddie Prinze Jr.
Description: In this episode, Wilmer Valderrama and Freddie Rodriguez delve deep into one of the most intriguing stories of the NFL Draft—the unexpected selection of Shador Sanders. Joined by Freddie Prinze Jr., the trio navigates through the complexities surrounding Sanders' draft position, analyzing potential factors beyond surface-level assumptions.
The episode kicks off with the hosts reminiscing about past experiences and setting the stage for a comprehensive discussion on the NFL Draft, with a special focus on Shador Sanders.
“We were still in that place of... what will this experience become?”
— Wilmer Valderrama [00:00]
A significant portion of the discussion centers on the unprecedented number of African-American players selected in the draft. Out of the first 32 picks, 29 were African American, sparking conversations about the league's demographics and selection biases.
“30 were men of color, 29 were African American.”
— Freddie Rodriguez [04:01]
Shador Sanders' selection at the 144th pick (fifth round) has been a focal point. The hosts explore whether his lower-than-expected draft position was influenced by factors such as interview performance or perceived arrogance, rather than racial bias.
“It's easier to believe that it was the interview process. It's harder for me to believe racism's involved, when 29 of the 32 were black.”
— Freddie Rodriguez [04:32]
The hosts debate various reasons behind Sanders' draft position, including team needs, his confidence versus arrogance demeanor, and the impact of Deion Sanders' (his father) reputation.
“His dad worked against him, if anything.”
— Freddie Rodriguez [08:32]
A memorable part of the discussion is the "peach cobbler" analogy used to describe Shador Sanders' draft scenario. The analogy illustrates how Sanders remains available later in the draft, much like a dessert left untouched on a table, awaiting someone brave enough to take it.
“Shador Sanders is like peach cobbler. ... you could say everyone is going after other items and leaving the peach cobbler for last.”
— Freddie Prinze Jr. [12:4]
The episode addresses a controversial prank phone call involving Jax Ulbricht, the son of Jeff Ulbricht, defensive coordinator of the Falcons. Ulbricht's son impersonated a Saints' GM to inform Shador Sanders of his draft status, causing unnecessary drama and stress.
“It was cruel. There's a difference between prank and just mean. Like, pranks supposed to be funny, right?”
— Freddie Rodriguez [45:23]
Despite the setbacks, the hosts remain optimistic about Sanders' future. They discuss potential teams that could draft him and the opportunities he might have to start and prove his capabilities in the NFL.
“If he has the talent that we all believe he does, he could actually start next year and win the job.”
— Freddie Prinze Jr. [10:57]
Briefly touching on broader sports news, the hosts mention the Washington Commanders' finalized deal to build a new stadium adjacent to RFK Stadium, highlighting the financial and logistical aspects of the project.
“The Washington Commanders finalized their deal with the District of Columbia to build the new stadium...”
— Wilmer Valderrama [28:38]
Towards the end, the conversation shifts to WWE's WrestleMania 41, praising the event's intensity and the performers' dedication, underscoring the future of wrestling.
“Tiffany Stratton earned her stripes at WrestleMania... bleeding for her art.”
— Wilmer Valderrama [29:52]
Engaging the audience, the hosts introduce fun hypothetical questions and interactive games, such as battling a silverback gorilla and comparing Hall of Fames, fostering a lively and entertaining atmosphere.
“How many men would it take to beat a silverback gorilla? I think the minute I was Sam, ran up to the gorilla and it ripped his head off...”
— Freddie Prinze Jr. [39:16]
Wrapping up, the hosts reiterate their support for Shador Sanders while acknowledging the complexities of the NFL Draft process. They highlight the importance of perseverance and the potential for Sanders to excel despite the odds.
“I think next year we're all going to be sitting around here in the fall... Shador is going to have his chance.”
— Freddie Prinze Jr. [17:16]

Diversity in the NFL Draft: The high number of African-American players selected contradicts the notion that Shador Sanders' draft position was influenced by racism. Instead, factors like team needs and individual player qualities seem to play a more significant role.
Impact of Personal Conduct: Shador Sanders' demeanor during interviews and perceived arrogance may have adversely affected his draft stock, emphasizing the importance of professionalism in high-stakes environments.
Family Influence: The involvement of Shador's father, Deion Sanders, adds a layer of complexity, suggesting that personal relationships and reputations within the league can influence draft outcomes.
Prank Phone Call Fallout: The unethical prank by Jax Ulbricht underscores the need for professionalism and respect in interactions within the sports industry, highlighting how personal actions can have broader repercussions.
Optimism for the Future: Despite the challenges, there is optimism that Shador Sanders will find a team that values his talents and provides him with opportunities to succeed, illustrating resilience in the face of adversity.
Rapid News Cycle: The discussion reflects on how quickly news can evolve in the sports world, with topics like team stadium deals and WrestleMania receiving attention alongside draft analyses.
This episode offers a multifaceted exploration of the NFL Draft, particularly focusing on Shador Sanders' unique situation, while intertwining broader sports discussions to provide listeners with a comprehensive and engaging narrative.
