We're going to get it to Bill Belichick today, perhaps Joe Burrow. We got midweek major the most searched athletes of 2024. Brett Favre's reaction to Mark Gastineau. So there's a lot of updates and a lot of fun to get to. But I mean, we did bring up Turbo man and Jingle all the Way Unintentionally Turbo Man. What was the last time you remember? A really hard to get Christmas item. In my mind it's like Tickle Me Elmo.

[Danny G.]

That's the last one I remember people freaking out about when was the last time? And I only remember that because there's a funny ass story to it. Personally. It was the hot, hot toy. Christmas. I don't know, 2000 Christmas. 90 something maybe.

[Rich Davis]

When was it? Hold on.

[Danny G.]

Late 1900s. And my uncle Joe went out of pocket and bought like 30 of them. Seriously. And it's so unlike my uncle Joe to do that sort of thing. To think ahead and make some sort of weird investment. And his big scheme, his big Ralph Kramden scheme was he's gonna make a fortune selling these bad boys. And this is prior to the Internet and ebay and offer up and all this stuff. And I think till this day he has 29 of them lying around somewhere. Cause he never sold not one of them.

[Rich Davis]

Did Uncle Joe also buy toilet paper.

[Danny G.]

During COVID Seriously, I'm not kidding you. My uncle Joe bought all these Tickle Me Elmo dolls and he had them all.

[Rich Davis]

And spot. I think I heard you mumble it. 1996. Did you say that? Because if so, you were right. The. The winter of 96. It was released in 96 and then by Christmas of what, almost 30 years ago. 28 years ago, tickle Me Elmo was the hot item.

[Danny G.]

Before that, when we were kids, you know, not when we were kid. My sister's Generation in the 80s, Teddy Ruxpin was a hot item to get. Cabbage Patch Kids were always tough to find. Certain ones.

[Steve Covino]

You know what looks super weak now? Razor scooters. I think it was 1999, 2000 ish. Everybody was fighting over those.

[Danny G.]

Yeah, no, for sure.

[Steve Covino]

Now people kick them around. They're weak.

[Danny G.]

Definitely during the dot com boom too because they would always show. You'd always see B roll of a new dot com company and a bunch of jabronis flying around the office on those stupid things.

[Rich Davis]

I think we live in a different world now where mom and dad and even Santa orders things probably on Amazon or wherever. And just. You hope they have it in stock.

[Steve Covino]

I game consoles though. Scarcity issue game consoles.

[Danny G.]

Yeah.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah. Was that one of the. One of the Playstations or Xboxes a couple years ago? Do I remember correctly? There was a scarcity issue, but yeah, it doesn't.

[Steve Covino]

We don't like a toy.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah, I feel like that's a thing of the past. Cavino, where we said the other day things Kids will never understand. And I don't think, I don't think the hype of mom having to go to KB Toys or Toys R Us and wait in line and hope that they had the he man action figure, that's. That's old news, man.

[Danny G.]

That mad rush to Toys R Us is over, bro.

[Steve Covino]

Nobody's standing in line for an hour to get an Xbox 360 anymore.

[Rich Davis]

No, you know what? I got my daughter and I thought it would be tricky to get and it wasn't. I saw someone say, there's the Taylor Swift eras like book that goes along with everything era and that's what people waited in line for on Black Friday. Remember? That was one of the items like.

[Danny G.]

Well, here's the difference.

[Rich Davis]

The hard to find Taylor, you're able.

[Danny G.]

To find it, but you got to be willing to pay too, though. And for me, I'm the dad of a teenage daughter, it might be some rare Jordans that she saw.

[Rich Davis]

Right.

[Danny G.]

Or a pair of sneakers. They're no longer in the store. So you got to go to some ridiculous app and then you got to overpay to get those particular sneakers. So it's not a matter of finding it in today's world. It's a matter of are you willing to pay to get that because you found it somewhere online?

[Rich Davis]

Well, that Taylor book, I thought, oh, maybe I have a hard time ordered it on target.com was on my doorstep like two days later. So that is one thing we could be thankful for, that we don't have to do what our parents, grandparents, other generations did where they sought out a certain toy. And you're right, you probably remember your mom scrambled around like, I can't find your sister, her glow worm or some nonsense in the 80s or 90s.

[Danny G.]

It still exists though, because I remember when the the American Girl, Dolph was a thing in my life, certain things were hard to find. Again, that's like 2015 ish, you know? So things have probably changed even more since. But good luck finding those last minute items. Enjoy your shopping, your holiday time, two weeks from today. Thank you. I was.

Remember when it was really damn buyer. They were really trying to get him that Robin Yount starting lineup figure. Yeah, they're hard to come by.

[Danny G.]

Hard to find.

Did you have those? Was that part of your little setup in your childhood?

Well, again, I wasn't a huge, huge baseball fan, but I did have the Vince Coleman one where he was sliding.

Which was the same mold as the Mookie Wilson, which was the same mold as The Ricky Henderson, which was the same movie. And it was funny. They made five molds and they painted them black, white or tan based on their ethnicity and change her uniform. It was just a mold.

I also don't think, like the early starting lineups maybe had every team or every, you know, team represented. I think as they. Well, as they went on, we for surely did. I've got one in a locker I'll have to show you later on.

[Rich Davis]

But it really is, as Cavino points out, back in the day, your team, NFL, NBA, mlb, NHL, they chose one or two players and they were the.

[Danny G.]

Face, they were the stars.

[Rich Davis]

Like if you were a Yankees fan like CAVINO in the 80s, it was what, Mattingly and Willie Randolph, maybe Dave Winfield.

[Danny G.]

Yeah, you only had a few options.

[Rich Davis]

What did you have?

[Steve Covino]

Danny G. Orals, Fernando, Kirk Gibson.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah, there was like three. Now you could get the utility infielder or guy in the bullpens jersey.

[Steve Covino]

And don't forget my football team. Tons of Bo Jackson action figures. I had those lined up on my shelf.

[Rich Davis]

You had two running backs, Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson. You guys had a lot of. A lot of toys for those two.

[Danny G.]

It's a funny question though, Rich. What was the last hard item to get?

[Rich Davis]

Yeah, I didn't want to. I didn't want to take us off track, but we joked about Tickle Me Elmo and whatever. And it just got me thinking.

[Steve Covino]

There are certain toys that, like, kids still want and like, certain Lego sets are still a hot thing. And Pokemon stuff, like, are those are still things that like 20 years ago, kids of that era were into.

[Danny G.]

Yeah. And like I said, the only difference is you'll find them online. It's just how much are you willing to pay for that stupid item? So good luck with that. And by the way, now the struggle is not about the traffic of getting to Toys R Us and fighting for that toy. It's are you gonna get it in on time? Are you gonna get it on time.

[Rich Davis]

In the mail sometimes when Amazon changes the shipping day, like, oh, the 23rd. Why are you giving me nervous the farts?

[Danny G.]

Exactly. You know what? One last thing to do. And this is a nice thing to do if you're lucky enough to still have your parents around next time you talk to them. Yeah. What's going on? Hey, Big Steve. Next time you talk to your dad, right? Hey.

Let me ask you this though, before we move on. What was that sports item that you had to get around Christmas time? Sports equipment toy perhaps? You always got a Nerf. Was Nerf football. Like an Easter gift that you got or was it stuffer or stocking stuffer? You always had to get that Nerf at least once a year.

Because your sister would bite a chunk.

[Rich Davis]

Out of your dog or little sibling would bite a chunk out of it.

[Danny G.]

Like, why, what is it with the Nerf? And everyone had a bite notice.

[Rich Davis]

Like your little siblings nervous energy would like rip a hole out of your Nerf. Yeah, I have a. I have a love hate relationship with the Nerf turbo because the fact that it had like a tail on it stunk. Yeah, but how sweet was it to throw that like a hundred yards?

[Danny G.]

And those. What were they? Vortex with the whistle.

[Steve Covino]

Did it have a whistle? Yeah, yeah.

[Rich Davis]

The little whistle in them, that was badass.

[Danny G.]

I like the one that Danny has now, actually, whatever that is. Danny G. Yeah. That's the coolest Nerf update I've seen in a long time.

[Steve Covino]

There's a rubber covering to the Nerf, so it makes the ball heavier. Where is it usually have it right here. It's like you're. It's in my car. Stress ball or something.

[Rich Davis]

Honestly, Danny G. Does make a great point. If you need a football for the kids, Nerf does make one that has like a rubber coating on half of it where it gives it a little, little beef. It gives it a little, little heaviness to it, which makes it more like a real football.

[Danny G.]

Was there a sports related one? Did you get a TPX bat or something that you wanted so bad? It's funny you would say pair of Franklin batting gloves.

[Rich Davis]

It's funny you would say this because our show sometimes flows and goes in a way that makes sense to our personal lives.

Before I left for the show today, I actually said to my wife, my son starts T ball in the spring. My son's gonna be five. He starts Little League. And I said, babe, I think part of his Christmas present, I think I.

Should get him an east in Black.

Magic, like his first little set. Like a bat glove, little chest, a.

[Danny G.]

Hulk Hogan workout set.

[Rich Davis]

No, I got that as a kid. What you gonna do, brother? But if you got a glove for a five year old, what are we doing with these days? How are we dealing with this? Are we getting a broken and nice glove where we get one of those, like my first crappy $20 gloves, like for. I'm talking for a T ball kid.

It's plastic.

They sell those little like half plastic Franklin ones that are for little kids. If you get them a real glove. Yeah, they're hard to break in if.

You get him in a real. If you get him a real glove too, it's getting too big for his little hand.

There was nothing like that sweet new basketball you got for Christmas. When I first got my backboard right, Every kid wanted like a backboard in her driver or something adjustable. You just nailed it in those weak ass Nerf ones you hung on the door. Right on the door frame.

You know how many mean Nerf basketball games I had in my kitchen sliding around on my socks?

Did it have the net that returned the ball to you too?

You have no idea.

Let me tell you what you just said. I think if you were a kid of the 80s or 90s, you didn't even need to get it. As long as one kid in the neighborhood got the adjustable rim where it went from 6ft to 8ft to 10ft. And you would practice dunking the way kids now think they're all Steph Curry shooting threes. Cut out the cameras. And it seems like Joe Burrow was the latest of victims who robbed them.

Inside Carolina reported earlier today and they were the first to report that Bill Belichick has been finalizing a contract with the University of North Carolina, something we've been following throughout the day. Now you get some of the mainstream outlets jumping on board saying finalizing as well. NFL Network says the deal is done. Bill Belichick will be the next head coach at the University of North Carolina.

That's huge, man.

A report from WRAL in North Carolina is saying that the emergency board of trustees meeting to approve the hiring of Belichick is currently slated to take place tomorrow morning at 9:00 local time. Who's going to say no, right?

On the board of trustees? Like, no, we don't want the most successful NFL coach ever taking over our program.

[Steve Covino]

Nope. To your point, though, there was a report from Inside Carolina earlier this week that maybe not all of the trustees were on board, but if you're going to have the emergency meeting and everything is done, I would assume that this would Just be part of protocol. But yes, multiple reports saying Bill Belichick will be the next head coach at North Carolina.

I don't want to make a lame analogy, but does he do to UNC's football program with primetime did to Colorado. Is it that level of culture change?

Like, I mean, you just want to cut to the chase though too. No, like, hey, there's a crime going on. You don't have to give all those details. In that moment, I'm house sitting for.

A guy that people think I'm dating's house. Like, yeah, right, my house got broken into.

But that has brought up more question marks as well. That's gone viral too. Like, well, is she living there? That. That is a part of the story. So thanks for bringing that up. So it's not the worst thing to have to come clean about. She's a beautiful young woman.

[Rich Davis]

Guys, I've been holding this back. I'm dating a model.

[Danny G.]

So if you just joined us, Joe Burrow. We all thought he was engaged to his longtime sweetheart. But it turns out when his house got broken into in Cincinnati, $7.5 million mansion. He had an SI model, bikini model, lingerie model. Olivia Ponton. Ponton, 22 year old model staying there. She's the one that was in the house while it was being burglarized.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah. And you don't have house sitters, nannies, or help that look like that unless you are with them or you want to get with them. Otherwise, terrible idea. We've all learned that ask, Ask Arnold. Arnold slept with. That wasn't even tempting.

[Danny G.]

I think the only other like, relatable story for most people where you had to come cle. Maybe people were picking up on the signs that your wife wasn't drinking. You're like, is she pregnant? Is she pregnant? Those type of stories, you know, at certain points you have to like, just come out and admit the truth.

[Rich Davis]

And some people are bad liars. One of my buddies, his wife is a you former party girl type. We all went out for drinks one night and like, in the most proud voice, she's like, I'll have a club soda. Everyone all at once like, dude, you're pregnant. I'll have a club soda by the party girl. Come on.

[Danny G.]

So Joe Burrow. Come on, Joe. You and her got it going on. It's like when Rich farted in the elevator and everybody knew. And he had to admit it was me. Right. So, coming clean, one quick question for.

[Rich Davis]

You guys, and then we will get to the Brett Favre reaction to Mark Gastono and midweek Major. We'll get to a lot of stuff. But let me ask you this real quick. When it comes to your Christmas tree, Danny G. When you and Brenda and CO Were decorating Cavino, you got the tree up spotty. Is it. Is your attempt to keep it all classy or is it more silly decorations? The better.

[Danny G.]

It just depends where you are in life.

Depends how tall your little rugrat is too, because CO has been grabbing all of the fake candy canes towards the bottom of the tree, pulling them off.

And then running and falling and jabbing them in his eye.

This whole Brett Favre story takes me back to my childhood. I'll explain because what happened between Brett Favre and Mark Gastineau I think is relatable to a lot of people. I think we've all been on that receiving side of that awkwardness, and you see it with Brett Favre. It was a really odd and awkward but real moment. If you don't know what we're talking about, there's a new documentary, new 30 for 30. I wasn't say docu series, but it's a documentary. 30 for 30. ESPN. It comes out on Friday. The New York sack exchange. Mark Gastineau was the single season leader with 22. And then Brett Favre took a fall for Michael Strahan. To break the record with 22 and a half. Now this haunted Gastineau forever. Did it stop him, prevent him from making the hall of fame? We don't know. So he confronts Brett Favre.

[Rich Davis]

You hooked up with a girl once that had that nickname, right? New York sack exchange.

[Danny G.]

Did I? I don't know.

[Rich Davis]

So I'll see myself. How can I.

[Danny G.]

Still try to figure it out? So it might be the greatest joke I ever heard.

[Steve Covino]

It'll hit you later.

[Danny G.]

Yeah, it'll hit me later. So Brett Favre is there, and Gastineau approaches him, and Far's like, hey. Now, first off, he has his hand out. Hey, it's Mark Gastonault. And Gastonault leaves him hanging.

[Rich Davis]

The audio is great, but just to know that I have to describe the power of radio. I just want to visually describe how Far, in a friendly way, comes towards Gaston with the hand out for the handshake, immediately realizes this interaction is not positive, pulls back the hand, and then the more Gastonaut starts acting. Weird spot. You pointed this out. Favre starts back backpedaling like he's Homer Simpson going into the bushes.

[Steve Covino]

You read the body language. There's clear. He's clearly, like.

[Danny G.]

Because he's in shock. Yeah, he's confused.

[Steve Covino]

I think he's afraid.

[Danny G.]

Not.

[Rich Davis]

Well, I think just more concerned, like, what's doing until his. Until one of his people saves the situation by saying, like, oh, I'm sorry, Brett, we gotta go do this signing or whatever and get out of here. Take a listen to the interaction. It's awkward as hell.

A long time ago. At least I saw you, right?

[Danny G.]

How you doing when you fell down, friend? I'm gonna get my sack back. I'm gonna get my sack back.

You hurt me. Brett, we got to get back to this. Brett, I'm sorry.

So awkward, man. And we're not ones to defend Brett Favre, but he seemed real genuine in his approach, you know, like, hey, I'm Brett Farm. I'm just here for a kind interaction, and, man, awkward as hell. What's up, Sam?

[Steve Covino]

Their interaction reminded me of, like, a scene late in the film Fatal Attraction where Glenn Close, like, comes back and confronts Michael Douglas, especially the. Yeah, you fell down for him, didn't you? You. Yeah, and it was like. It's very strange, very awkward. It's, like, very personal, and, like, he doesn't know what's Going on. But it's like a scene out of Fatal attraction. It's like Glenn Close as Mark Gaston.

[Danny G.]

But it's always weird when you meet someone or you have an interaction with someone that holds this grudge against you and you were unaware of it.

[Rich Davis]

I. I, listen, I think we could all admit we've been there. I. I've been there where I said to someone like, hey, bro, and I got hit with a yo, I'm not your bro. I'm like, whoa, how you doing?

[Danny G.]

When you fell down for him.

[Rich Davis]

I. I've seen these interactions, and they're always cringy.

[Danny G.]

You know what it makes me think of a really cringy moment. And I was a child, so, you know, when you're a kid, everything's more magnified, right? You remember all these weird moments. We had moved out of the neighborhood. I was about 14 years old. You would have thought I was, like, five, right, the way I described it. But I was like, 14.

[Rich Davis]

I was a little kid.

[Danny G.]

Mentally, emotionally, I was probably, like, seven.

[Rich Davis]

Your mom was still pushing you around in a stroller.

[Danny G.]

Yeah, I was still.

[Rich Davis]

Your legs were dragging.

[Danny G.]

I was wearing Mickey Mouse ears.

[Steve Covino]

You were still on the teat.

[Danny G.]

Yeah, I was wearing Oshkosh B. Gosh. Oh, yeah, Definitely. Still taking a bath in the sink. Big mama's boy, right? But I was a teenager. That's the truth. Feel like I was really young. But we moved out of the neighborhood, and we're just driving down the old street, and my dad pulls to the side because we see our old neighbors. We see the old neighbors, and my dad gets out of the car. Very Brett Favre. Like, hey, neighbor. Guy Castano. His name was Bill. Hey, Bill. And I'm watching this interaction because I'm like, my dad was just going out, and I hear my dad say, never got a chance to say goodbye, man. I just wanted to say, hey, how's it right? And this guy stares at my dad like Gastonault stares at Favre, and he's like, hey, man, get out of my face. My dad's like, hey, whoa, what's going on? What's cooking? He's like, you know what you did, man?

[Rich Davis]

My dad's like, I just came to say he was.

[Danny G.]

He's like, you sold to undesirables. You fell down for him, Basically, he said some racist craziness. And I'm watching as a kid like, yo, what? And my dad's like, oh, wait. So my dad backed out just the Way farm did in that situation.

[Rich Davis]

What you said is your dad saw the old neighbor.

[Danny G.]

Yeah.

[Rich Davis]

Politely try to be like, hey, man, haven't seen you good to straight up.

[Danny G.]

Like, like get away F you get away from me. You sold out and you did this X, Y and Z. And my dad was like, what? Like had no clue what he was even talking about. And as a kid, I'm like, yo, man, that was wild. And I, I was hurt for my dad and I thought the whole situation was odd because I'm like, I thought that dude was a nice neighbor of ours and he's mad. Sounds like we're not friends anymore.

[Rich Davis]

Sounds like Bill was racist.

[Danny G.]

Yeah. You know, this is like, do you.

[Steve Covino]

Have a problem with your mom too?

[Rich Davis]

Probably.

[Danny G.]

Yeah.

[Rich Davis]

Right, right.

[Danny G.]

So exactly. This is coming from a half breed Mexican kid. So I'm watching this. Like, man, that's wild. And my dad felt really bad the same way far probably was like, damn, was not expecting that. So my dad just, you know, backpedaled back into the car. I was like, get out. Let's get out of here. F that guy.

[Rich Davis]

When you don't. When you don't get the reaction you think you're going to get, it leaves you feeling some type of way.

[Danny G.]

Yeah, man. It's a weird situation.

[Rich Davis]

I remember you and I were in Vegas once with a group of friends, mixed company, meaning guys knew each other from work. Personal friends. Oh, that's my buddy from home. Like, just a mixed group of people. Not everyone knew each other that well. Jokes were flying, drinks were being had, and I remember one of our buds told the joke a little off color. Everyone started laughing and our other friend grabbed the guy by the collar and he was like, yo, I don't know you that way.

[Danny G.]

Yeah.

[Rich Davis]

And I was like, wow, awkward.

[Danny G.]

Burgers served.

[Rich Davis]

I think we've all witnessed a quote, Gastineau situation. But there's an update.

[Danny G.]

There is. And again, this clip has gone so viral that Brett Favre had to give us some feedback on what's to come and how he felt about this interaction.

[Rich Davis]

He said, hey, Mary. No, he said. He said, hi, Mary. I want to clear the air on the footage released showing a little dust up between myself and Mark Gastineau, the former New York jet. Back in 02, when Michael Strahan sacked me at the end of the game that we had wrapped up, I was in no way trying to hurt Mark Gastineau. I was trying to close out a game and squeeze the last bit of fun out of a hard fought game. I booted out of a run thinking it would be wide open. But then I saw Strahan standing there and I ducked down. The game was over. There was no need for me to do anything spectacular. It probably wasn't Michael's best sack or tackle. Even in a different game or situation, I would have made a bigger, a bigger effort to avoid the sack. But at no point was I thinking about hurting Mark Gastineau.

[Danny G.]

Yeah, but maybe it did hurt.

[Rich Davis]

Wait. Maybe it did cross my mind that I was helping Strahan, but I really didn't think it through. It wasn't my forte at the time. I just wanted to have fun and compete. In retrospect, I understand how Gastono feels. We played a brutal game. Gastinel played during an era where guys didn't make generational wealth. I see how now being the sack king would have elevated his value at a card show, strengthening his case of the hall of Fame, increasing his demands as a speaker.

[Danny G.]

And as I said to you off the air yesterday, Rich, hey, when, when Strahan became the leader, he was the guy. Any other kid coming up who was interested in stats and football, they don't know Castano because Strahan was the sack leader. Like Gaston, dude. Who remembers the second place guy? Nobody.

[Steve Covino]

I didn't really know much about Mark Gastineau either and like just his playing style.

[Danny G.]

But if you knew he was the single season sack leader, you at least maybe know his name.

[Steve Covino]

Well, I went and watched. Watched like his highlights from the 1984 season. He was a beast. This guy looked like a Hall of Famer. But how long was his success sustained? You know, that's what I want to know.

[Rich Davis]

It was a smaller window.

[Steve Covino]

He was. Do you watch this guy? He was beast. He was a savage.

[Danny G.]

And then as we discussed yesterday, he had a reputation of being selfish because his sole focus was going after the quarterback. Right. But then there's a flip side to the argument where, well, maybe he was a pioneer because he was sort of a pass rushing specialist before it was even really a thing. Right. So he had this stigma about him. Oh, he's a selfish player. And I get all that. There's two ways to look at a lot of this story, which makes it really interesting because there's a lot of people saying, dude, get over it. I do think there's people's first reaction.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah. But I do feel like it's an odd resentment now. However, Favre goes on to say in a statement, I realize now the potential financial implications because football is far more business oriented than when Me or Mark played. So when you think about it, Spock can do a quick check of Mark Gastono's salary because he's he get. I could promise. You know what? He wasn't getting Nick Bosa money. I'm sure he was. He wasn't getting Chris Jones money.

[Danny G.]

He was very popular, pop culture wise and. And on the east coast, where we.

[Steve Covino]

Grew up, by the way. He played for 10 seasons. He had a good career. That's a long career. Yeah. He had a total of one hundred seven and a half sacks. Six of his ten seasons. He had seven or more sacks. One of those seasons, of course, 22 in 1984. He also had 20 sacks in 1981.

[Danny G.]

And he was dating Hollywood women. He was dating. Wasn't he dating like Brigitte Nielsen at one point, or am I making that up?

[Steve Covino]

Known as the Gastonau deal. He signed a $3.71 million contract in 1984, which averaged to about $800,000 a.

[Rich Davis]

Year, which back then's a lot, but not a lot when you think about.

[Steve Covino]

Like a lot back then. Yeah, but if that Rock Hardy's making $800,000 a year.

[Danny G.]

If that record stood longer, maybe involved in more conversation.

[Steve Covino]

It stood for more notable. 84 to 2001. Or why did say. Why did Favre say 02, whatever it was? 01. 02? He did say oh two. But it stood for a generation, essentially. It stood for 16 years, 17 years. Whatever it was.

[Rich Davis]

Favre went on to say that he belongs in Canton.

[Danny G.]

Wow. That's really big of a guy who gets a lot of bad press, to be honest.

[Steve Covino]

I mean.

[Danny G.]

I mean, deservingly so. I'm not defending Favre. I'm just saying.

[Steve Covino]

By the way, can I defend Far for a second?

[Danny G.]

Sure.

[Steve Covino]

A guy who took vicious, violent sacks over his entire career crumbles into a ball to give the record to Michael Strahan, and we're going to like, dump on Favre. That guy. No quarterback's been more abused by defensive linemen than Brett Favre. Yeah, but as Beyer pointed out on yesterday's show, a tit end was blocking. Sure, but your average NFL play is six seconds, guys, you know? Yeah. Crazy. This was gifted. Okay. It's less about Favre's playing career. It's more about his time off the field. That's why he gets a hard time. But Brett Favre took the most vicious, violent sacks and ones that led probably to his Parkinson's diagnosis, swindling charities and all that.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah. Ruining people's lives.

[Steve Covino]

DB Yeah. I think that they said that they'd make a donation to the Gastonault Fund. They'd get it from the Mississippi State.

[Rich Davis]

There it is.

[Steve Covino]

I knew that was coming.

[Danny G.]

Oh, good one, Tony.

It's a write off. It's a write off, right?

[Danny G.]

Hey, they both, both of those guys put their bodies in jeopardy and their health in jeopardy for the game of football. So I could see where Favre respects it. But it's going to be an awkward 30 for 30 to watch. It premieres on Friday. That's the update. You know, I, I thought about it a little more, but I do stick with my original feeling, which was like, yo, get over it, dude. But again, he doesn't, he doesn't. He didn't make the equivalent or even with inflation, nothing close to NFL money now, back then. Yeah, don't get me wrong, hundreds of thousands of dollars is great, but he was an elite guy. Guys. Now you see what, like, guys like, like I said, Bosa and Chris Jones and you know, J.J. watt towards the end of his career, like these guys were making legit dude.

[Danny G.]

If he was doing it now, he'd definitely have like a cool, a cool sort of contract with some sort of hair product. I'm sure he had a sweet 80s mullet.

[Rich Davis]

He would have his own mullet product. You ain't kidding. But I do feel a little sympathy for him the more you hear about it.

[Danny G.]

And his health is jeopardized too. I think he has some sort of dementia or something going on.

[Rich Davis]

You know, you watch a documentary that comes out on Friday and we'll reassess on Monday and see how we feel about how they package this New York sack exchange. It is interesting.

[Danny G.]

And he did date Brigitte Nielsen. I'm looking at all these pictures. See, look at him, man. Like, the dude was for guys like Sam who are a little younger. Like he was one of those Hollywood big name superstar NFL dudes.

[Steve Covino]

Yeah. In 2016, he was diagnosed with dementia, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.

[Danny G.]

Okay, so factor all of that in the guy who played his butt off, as he puts it, for the NFL. Maybe he does deserve more consideration. You can see how that haunts him. It does seem odd to us, as we established yesterday. But that's all he knows. That's what he lived for.

[Rich Davis]

I think one of the callers yesterday sort of shed some light on a perspective that changed my mind a little bit, which was take it to a different sport. If some guy had tied DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak and the pitcher on the other team was like, here's an 80 mile an hour flat fastball.

[Steve Covino]

Have at it.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah, like we'd all be like, oh, that's cheap.

[Danny G.]

Exactly. And that's why guess the NFL should have did something about it.

[Rich Davis]

It just feels like, like, oh, it's.

[Danny G.]

A really interesting story because. Hold on. When did strahan break the record? 04.

[Steve Covino]

No, it was 01, wasn't it?

[Danny G.]

Oh, one.

[Rich Davis]

Or confusion.

Okay, so his record would have stood until TJ want Jared with Jared Allen.

[Steve Covino]

Did he break the record?

[Rich Davis]

Yeah, 22.

What year was that? 2022.

No, that would have been 2010, 2012.

[Danny G.]

Yeah, Jared Stillwittle went on a good 10 more years or so, so. And again, then you would probably have heard the name. It would have been a stat you would have been aware of. Oh, he's still the single season sack leader, but you didn't have that. So it's an interesting story. There's lots of ways to look at it for sure, and I think we covered most of it, but that's the update.

[Steve Covino]

[Danny G.]

Sure.

Just ask, what if, like somehow the NFL in that moment did intervene and they didn't call it a sack? Would we be saying that Michael Strahan was the one who's robbed?

[Rich Davis]

Should he be there?

[Danny G.]

Sacks.

[Steve Covino]

A sack, right? Like, oh, no, that was a sack. That was a textbook definition sack. Even though it was weak.

[Rich Davis]

What if we go back. Covino recently brought up the movie Mr. 3000 with Bernie. Bernie Williams. With Bernie Mac.

[Danny G.]

Bernie Williams.

[Rich Davis]

Not in that movie.

[Danny G.]

No, but I think he should be in the hall of Fame.

Bernie Mac. What if they went back to the tape and tried to find a way where like, well, there's a half a sack he could have been given. Well, there's another half a sack in 87. He could have been. What if they. What if they Mr. 3000 it the opposite. And all of a sudden, like, hey, come to find out Gaston had 23 sacks.

[Danny G.]

That would be cool. I bet you there's something there. Yeah.

We need to find where there's a couple thousand. I love sacks. We need to find three sacks right now. Please find them for me.

There are definitely times where there's a. There's a group tackle and someone's getting the credit. Full or half a sack, Right? What if you went back and really examined it and they made a case like, no, that game against the Steelers in 86 Gaston.

The funny thing about it is I haven't heard anybody really stick up for Gastineau. And in fact, former players have taken the opportunity to pile on Gaston O. And in the documentary, even his former players go on to say on what a selfish player he was. So that's the interesting turn from it is there aren't a lot of people lining up being like, yeah, Mark, we got your back.

You know what they're not denying, though? How great he was. They're saying he was, you know, they're saying he was one of the best athletes they played with. He was great, but he was a jerk. A selfish jerk, basically.

He revealed the jets can be revealed during his Pat McAfee appearance this week that he plans to have a Friday night. Pay attention to this 5e experience, okay? Which means it's a meditation circle followed by calling in the aliens using little green laser pointers. And then they summon the aliens and then they talk to them. Eight, nine feet tall with big eyes. So if you recall, in last season's Hard Knocks, he talked about having an alien sighting back in 2005. So our key to speaking to aliens. Aaron Rodgers, midweek or major?

I think this is major.

Definitely major.

Guy can't play 500 football anymore, but he's contacting aliens. Aaron Rodgers has a career. After football. He's going to lean into aliens. You know, like his relationship with RFK and Rogan and McAfee and all the stuff he does. I think we're going to see Aaron Rodgers even more after football.

I think this is great. Anybody that. That could communicate with aliens, if it's Aaron Rodgers, so be it. Major in my book. Because I don't care about his football career anymore. I want to see what he does after football. And it's like Mike Tyson said with ayahuasca and. And toad venom earlier this week, I try everything, do everything. I used to be scared of death. He said he was scared of death because he's seen things. Now he's no longer scared of it. Maybe Aaron Rodgers knows and has seen some things, and if he can do it, I'm all for it.

Not taking any chances after the recent burglaries of fellow QBs Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes. During today's press conference, he issued a warning to burglars to think twice before targeting his home. Because he's fully prepared. He said he's increased security not only for him, his family, and also for his home. Hiring personal security for his wife when they. When she travels, as well as having someone patrol his home when he is out and about. And went on to say, yes, they are armed. So do not go anywhere near my house midweek or major.

I mean, pretty major. I mean, better protection than his offensive line. Right?

All right. Guy with those concussions. Listen, I think it is frightening if you're a player now to know that you could be targeted because people know you're playing. That's. That's scary stuff. Especially families with kids and their wives are home like I think every player is going to take these precautions, Major.

Especially come from a guy who's a little reckless. In my opinion, a guy that wanted no extra protection on the field with his helmet is saying, yo, we need guns at home. I think it's actually a pretty cool story.

[Rich Davis]

I think I'm just going to have Victoria's Secret models house sitting.

All right. As we know, Caitlin Clark and Taylor Swift have both had quite the year. Taylor wrapping up her ERAS tour and Caitlin Clark recently being named Times athlete of the Year. Well, in her interview with Time, Clark revealed that Swift actually reached out to Clark when Clark attended two ERA shows. ERAs tour shows in Indianapolis, saying that the singer gave her a couple bags of swag. And a personal note saying that Clark was inspiring to watch from afar. And also said that Swift and Travis are excited to attend a Fever game once things settle down. And also invited Caitlin Clark to sit in the suite with them during a Chiefs game. So few more games left in the season. We'll see if that happens midweek or major.

I mean, it's major because it's the two biggest women in sports and entertainment howling around.

[Steve Covino]

Kayla Clark's a Chiefs fan, and she's a Chiefs fan. So it's like it's this weird synchronicity going on.

Wow. My goodness. Just getting tingly. This is. This is huge news. Listen, I think Caitlin Clark deserved, by the way, Time magazine athlete of the year. Because who has done more for their sport and sports than Caitlin Clark? I mean, I. I have come down her times been a little tough on.

Her in the past year, but I.

Mean, NBA ratings are down. We were talking about how they're losing viewership. The W. NBA, with the help of Caitlin Clark, is only growing. They're going in different directions. Congrats, Caitlin.

Major on every level of major. For real. I mean, you got the person of the year, the athlete of the year. I'm sorry. And the biggest pop star in the world. That's a huge story. I think it's cool. And that's really it.

Of Jason, debut her brand new podcast, Not Going to Lie. Last week. And the numbers are in. After just one episode, the new podcast shot to the number one spot on podcasts on both Apple and Spotify, dethroning none other than Mr. Podcast himself. The Joe Rogan Experience. Many fans are scratching their heads over this because the podcast racked on YouTube just over 600. The average Joe Rogan podcast gets like 2 million plus. He has 14 million subscribers on Spotify alone. So is it the Taylor Swift effect?

[Danny G.]

Who knows?

[Steve Covino]

It's got to be major.

[Rich Davis]

It's major because it just shows you that the wife of an NFL center has the number one podcast of the week, even if it only lasts a week or so because of the connection.

[Danny G.]

To Taylor Swift, it's major. Not to take anything away from her. Congrats. But we have to remember that just because they have the most viewers doesn't mean it's the best podcast, you know, and you could say sour grapes. Wah. But I doubt her show's that good, by the way. At least right now, I'm not wishing anything bad, you know, against her.

[Steve Covino]

On iHeart podcast, overpromise with Cavino and Rich is still number one.

Okay.

All right. Finally, here's the kicker. A high school football coach in New Jersey lost his job after asking his players to work out out and lift weights in the off season. I don't know if you saw this. Coach Jim Clear clearly was let go from Park Ridge High School, which is actually the home of James Gandolfini, after four. Four in one season. First season as head coach. But he was shocked when he approached the administration saying, I want to ask my players to work out in the off season. And they were saying, you can't require them. If they don't want to work out, they don't have to work out. He said it was too much to ask of students at this level of a small school. So was let go. And he said. Responded by saying, this is the standard at most schools now, most programs around the area. So midweek or major.

[Rich Davis]

This is the weakest sauce of all time.

[Steve Covino]

We.

We call it gravy.

[Rich Davis]

It's. It's the weakest gravy and sauce of all time. I mean, to tell kids to work out is a bad thing. Tell my high school coaches this. My high school baseball coach made us pass a fitness test to even try out because we were lingering around 500. And he's like, you guys are not going to compete unless you get stronger.

Yeah. And you're teaching these kids super weak sauce. Like Rich said, baby, we. You're teaching them discipline. You're keeping them accountable. You're getting them prepared. To not make it. Mandatory is lame as hell. So. Yeah, weak. Super weak.

It was awesome. You would have Hank Aaron against Willie Mays or against Harmon Gillibrew. Rocky Colavito passed away yesterday at the age of 91. He was the last living player to have participated in that show. Wow.

Yes. You know, they would play it on ESPN Classics all the time. Yes, I would love it. Yeah. So I don't remember it. Just for the record, Cruise, like, he remembers, like, I was watching it when it aired.

It aired in 1960. And if you do a deeper dive, the host of it was great. He had a heart attack soon after the filming of that. They didn't. They didn't. They decided to cancel the series because they didn't have a host.

You know what I loved about it too, is how the players talked back then. Well, gee, what was the name of the host again? Do you remember? I don't know.

It was like, Kashi may have been like. Or Mark Smith.

Credit to Inside Carolina, who'd been all over this story from the get go, they were the first ones to report the contact. And also reported today that the sides were finalizing a deal contract for Belichick. Three years, $30 million to be the new head coach at the University of North Carolina.

When you look at the moments of 2024, you'd be sadly, you know, you'd be sad to realize that to a.

So sometimes the number two is better than number one. I've heard that's true, Mike.

But it's crazy to think that as big as the Tyson Jake Paul story was, I mean, first of all, it's crazy to think that Jake Paul is in the top 10. Right. With all these giant names in the world of soccer and Olympics and everything else, he's up there in the top 10. It does show you how popular, how impactful Jake Paul is. But when you think about this Tyson Paul circus that we dove into for so long.

Yeah.

That Iman Khalif was still the number one search term and name in the world of sports.

[Rich Davis]

There was a big so she's a man. And then everyone's like, hold. Not so fast. She's not. And you know, that was, that was controversial. You remember athletes in all sports sort of put their 2 cents in prematurely because we all got the story. They're like, yeah, she was a biological dude that was beating up women in a sport. And then we were quick, quickly told, that's not necessarily true. Look at the facts. And the facts were that she was not born a man.

Everyone saw a headline. They didn't read the actual story.

[Rich Davis]

That's. And you know what? That's what it defines. 20, 24.
