You know how NFL pregame it depends on how much you want to watch, but if you really wanted to, you could watch NFL coverage from Sunday. From the minute you wake up until the minute you go to bed if you wanted to. That's Wrestlemania. I feel like it's an eight hour a day turn on Peacock, which is what it was on all day Saturday. All day Sunday.
Kavino
It was packed though, man. They were packed in there in Vegas, right? Like sardines.
Rich
61,000 packed.
Kavino
Yeah, it just looked insane. But how the hell were you? I mean, Ryan, I mean, it's obvious you're a big dude, but tell us about that, like how far did your career go? And what was that about? What was your name? I want to know that.
Dan Byer
It was Ryan McBain.
Kavino
Okay.
Dan Byer
I didn't get really, really far just here in la. I started in college actually. And I didn't tell my parents. My dad would have killed me if he'd have found out I was doing that while I was going to college. But it was fun.
Rich
I met a lot of guys that actually made it. Samoa Joe, John Cena.
Dan Byer
Like I said, I've heard a lot of crazy stories. I've met a lot of cool people.
Rich
I've met Terry Funk backstage.
Kavino
Was he as terrible as they say or no?
Dan Byer
Terrible. Terry Funk. He was a cool guy.
Kavino
He was a cool dude. So did he brand you Terry Funk?
Dan Byer
No, he didn't brand me.
Kavino
Wow. Well, you know what? I actually saw photo proof of you in your heyday day as a wrestler. Big Mike. Who Runs this place was showing us pictures. We're like, no way.
Dan Byer
Not quite sure why Mike has shirtless photos of you, but I'm not sure why.
Kavino
It's his wallpaper of his phone. But yeah, Mike who runs this place. But it was cool to see and I know the alias Ryan McBain. I didn't know that was your wrestling name though. I thought it was like your just screen name or whatever. But Ryan Smith on the ones and twos and hope you had a John Cena sort of weekend. And speaking of John Cena, we're going to talk about something he did and the times you were bullied into something because he did something. And we'll explain. Plus NFL draft trivia, giving away prizes on this Monday, on this big week. And we got to talk Nico Harrison. There's lots to get to on today's show. We get ready for some great basketball today.
Dan Byer
You know, before we get into. I do think there's a great story and just a thought about Nico Harrison, Dallas Mavericks. But Danny, you seem pretty calm over the weekend. On our text message read about the Lakers. Like you, you know, I don't know.
Kavino
How, dude, I was pacing around worrying about the Lakers. Cause the whole time I'm like, oh, they'll come back. And then I believed you. I hit up Danny G. I'm like, I don't know about this game. He's like, yeah, they just got a buckle down on defense. I'm like, all right, so they'll come back. But they never really came back, man. They got.
Rich
They look good, they look good out the gate in the first quarter. They played flat after.
Kavino
Well, what did Reddick say? That they were mentally there, just not physically ready. Physically.
Rich
The physicality of the wolves. Yeah. And look, you got to make adjustments. It's a seven game series, so I don't think any team should panic after one game of a seven game series.
Kavino
But I feel like you need it. I say we because I'm like sort of invested as a LA native now for 15 plus years. And I'm rooting for you too.
Rich
Well, you got to ask yourself though, Kovino, the way Nas Reed and the other guys were knocking down all those shots.
Kavino
Yeah.
Rich
If they make those same shots in game two, then I'm worried. I'm like, okay, this is not a one game thing. This is a trend. And they just are going to outshoot the Lakers and they drive to the hoop a lot. Lakers, we talked about it all season. What do they lack some size? So you know, hey, if they don't make adjustments, then, yeah, then this could be the Wolves series.
Dan Byer
The only other road team that came away with a W over the weekend, Golden State. But I feel like that's. I know that Houston's a 2 seed, but not a terribly better team, even record wise.
Kavino
Yeah, but dude, Butler's all the difference right now, man. Just playing so big. And tonight, of course, Pistons, Knicks, Clippers, Nuggies. So just more to look forward to. And I got to tell you, on a personal note, besides all the Wrestlemanias and the holiday weekend and all the Easter treats that you have to munch on great basketball, just knowing that there's baseball on every day is such a game changer for me. Like, every day is like nudie magazine day every day. I know there's something to watch, something to be excited about. And so far the season's been great. I'm loving every minute of it. So that's, that's a personal note for me. Like, I get so pumped rich to note. I get to sit around, lamp around and do nothing, watch baseball.
Dan Byer
And the big series in the NLE starts today. My Mets hosting the Phillies and guys like Lindor saying that Citi Field's been packed and it's a real home field advantage. So we'll see. Look, that battle starts tonight. Mets, Phillies, and over the weekend, Juan Soto turns it on a little bit. He's showing signs of life.
Kavino
I mean, it's about time when you're paying him a billion dollars a game.
Dan Byer
But I mean, like, you know, the 162 game schedule hate on him. And I. And I think it's also very positive in this room because the three teams we root for in this room are Mets, Dodgers, Yankees, and they're all currently looking pretty damn good. So MLB in full effect. But I want to go to Nico Harrison for a second because I think he's starting to fall into the category of being known for the wrong reasons.
Kavino
Well, today specifically, he's known for saying stupid things or maybe being too honest. Well, when being real goes wrong, because they asked him, he was talking about, you know, getting rid of Luca, and what he said has people scratching their noggins.
Dan Byer
I did know that Luca was important to the.
Kavino
To the fan base. I didn't quite know it to the.
Dan Byer
To what level, but really the way.
Kavino
We looked at it is, you know, if you're putting on the. If you're putting a team on the floor, that's Kyrie, Clay, P.J.
Dan Byer
Anthony, Davis, and Lively.
Kavino
We feel that's a championship caliber team and we would have been winning at a high level, and that would have quieted some of the outrage. And so unfortunately, we weren't able to do that. So it just continued to, you know.
Dan Byer
Go on and on.
Kavino
That's true. I mean, there's some truth to that. Had they played well and had AD stayed healthy and they all hadn't gotten down the way they did, it wouldn't have stung as bad as it did. But that was one of the biggest meltdowns and crashes any team has seen, you know, especially after the departure of a superstar. But he is basically saying he underestimated Dallas's love for Luca. That's kind of crazy to be that out of touch with your own fan base if you're the gm, right? If anyone's supposed to know, it's you. That's how I feel about it, that that's your job. I think you're supposed to know that.
Dan Byer
I think you see it when there's a great owner or general manager, when they're oblivious, it's even more shocking to be like, how do you not know? Like, I'll go to my Mets for a second. When Steve Cohen took over, he's so involved where he's like, all right, fans, what alternate jersey do you like best? Like, he wants to be on the pulse of what the fans are thinking. It's a.
Kavino
It's a. It's a combination of things, though, Rich. Here's how I feel about it, and I find this to be true cuz I'm saying it. It's a mixture of both.
Dan Byer
It's true because he's saying it.
Kavino
No, no, no. Because you want to appease the fans, but you can't let fans dictate anything because they don't know more than you. They really don't.
Dan Byer
Fans dictated Sonic the Hedgehog looking different in the movie and up being a billion dollar franchise, so.
Kavino
But you don't dismiss the fans. You hear them out. But that doesn't mean you got to do everything they say. Yeah, they're the reason that the stadium's full, the reason the team's making money, the reason you have a job. Sometimes, you know, the fans are everything. I get it. But they're not the final decision maker. It's like fans who are mad about how the White Lotus ended. It's like, well, guess what, dude? You didn't write it. You don't dictate everything. So it's a combination of both because you're trying to appease and please the fans, but it's not their Decision. It's like our show, Rich. Yeah. You guys want us to talk hockey, but guess what? It's our show, and I'm not talking hockey.
Dan Byer
That's like, two Canadians.
Kavino
No, no, but you know what I'm saying? But there will be people that want us to talk some things, and I'm like, well, that's not what we plan on doing today. So I'm sorry. We get the final decision. The fans might have wanted Luca, but he may have really believed that it was in the team's best interest to make that move.
Dan Byer
It's a good combination of.
Kavino
It was a bad move, but I think it's a little feel of both. And he has to have that feel as gm of what the fans really want, and that's where he misstep.
Dan Byer
It's a feel of both, and you nailed it with that, because it is a combination of. All right, I do want to take the fans, or for, like I said, a radio show, a TV show, a podcast. I want to take into consideration what the people that are supporting want to hear, want us to do.
Kavino
Yeah, but they're not always going to make the smartest decisions. Right. They're going to make heartfelt decisions a lot of times, and that's not a great business decision.
Dan Byer
Every time there's a managerial opening in baseball, the fans of any franchise start calling for, like, some retired player to be the new guy.
Kavino
Like, right.
Dan Byer
You know, insert hall of Famer. That really might not be the most qualified, but they're like, make him the manager.
Kavino
In other words, fans aren't in complete control, even though they want to be. We want to be sometimes. That's why Nico Harrison's making millions of dollars to make those tough decisions. Did he misread it? Yes, because Luca was an exception. He was an exceptional player, and he was exceptionally loved by the fans where it was a bad move. And, you know, he's hearing the flak from it. And for him to admit that, you could say, wow, it's refreshing that he's taken accountability of his naivety there to not know how much the fans loved them. Like, I knew they loved them. I just underestimated it. But you could also say, man, he sounds like a bonehead, because he's supposed to know that.
Dan Byer
I mean, that's like requirement one of being a, you know, management on a team, knowing what the fan base, the take, you know, have the temperature of the. Of the room.
Kavino
But here's the thought that goes with it. This guy can make the greatest moves moving forward. He could eventually win a championship. He may and probably will forever be known as the guy who made this terrible trade. The guy who let Luca go.
Dan Byer
No doubt that means not even a little bit. Forever. Nico Harrison could go on to be the GM or front office or. You know, he worked for Nike for a long time before he entered the NBA.
Kavino
Yeah. You can't take anything away from his success and his resume. He's not there because he's a swell fella. You know, he earned his way there. But he'll forever be remembered for this move.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Kavino
And that's what we're getting at right now. The bad reputation one gets for one thing, the greatest example, and I'll lead it off and kick it off. Besides, Nico Harrison again could win a championship, but always be remembered as the guy that let Luca go.
Dan Byer
Wait, Nico Harrison, you mean. Oh, the GM that traded Luca?
Kavino
Yeah, the guy. You know, the guy like. Yeah, fire Luca, fire Nico. All that stuff. That guy. Unfortunately. And if you look at his career stats, you're like, man, he was a way better player than I thought. Bill Buckner is the classic example of what I'm talking about. Because when you look at his stats and you realize the kind of player he was and the kind of guy he was, he was a gritty ball player with solid numbers. This is off top my dome. I bet you he's close to 300 home runs.287 lifetime. He was a great come a great player, great first baseman. Forever known for that one error and it didn't even lose the series. It changed the series, but it didn't lose the series.
Dan Byer
And just for the record, you know, the Red Sox were winning game 7, 3 nothing in the 6th inning.
Kavino
Never be remembered for that stellar solid career that he had. And that's the sad part about it. Nobody's remembered such a big moment. I get it.
Dan Byer
He's remembered for gets five. Buckner rounding third is night Mets win.
Kavino
So that one thing that isn't accurate but truly defines your career. That's what we're getting at. What other examples come to mind? 87799 on Fox. And if you're playing along at home at Covino and Rich, I'll look up Buckner's numbers.
Dan Byer
You know, I can think of a ton. Damn buyer will not like this answer. Being a Seahawks guy. But we've talked about this before. Brian Bosworth was one of the coolest dudes.
Kavino
But you bring up boss sweetest flat top too.
Dan Byer
90% of the time his name is in conversation is because someone's talking about Bo Jackson running over him every time.
Kavino
Every time.
Dan Byer
And it's.
Kavino
You can't have the conversation without that.
Dan Byer
You could say, well, the angle. He didn't have the right angle. It doesn't matter. It's. It's. It's how people think of Brian Bosworth.
Kavino
By the way, I was close. Bill Buckner, career average.289, 174 career home runs. But he played 22 years of awesome baseball and awesome defensive baseball at first base. 22 years in the big leagues, and it comes down to one moment that people never forgot, and he was forgiven before it was too late. I'll curb your enthusiasm. You know, they eventually won, but he caught a baby. He caught a baby.
Dan Byer
He caught a baby out of a burning building.
Kavino
But again, a long, stellar career. That one moment defines him.
Rich
Unfortunately, I think Rich wants me to comment. I will not comment and participate in the slander of one Brian Bosworth.
Kavino
Yes.
Rich
Who just did not have leverage at the goal line against Bo Jackson. That's. That's the problem. So I will not. I will not participate in this slander.
Dan Byer
I could. We all agree that Jim Joyce. You wouldn't even know this umpire's name had he not messed up Galarraga's perfect game.
Rich
Yes.
Dan Byer
This guy umpired his whole life. Probably a reputable guy.
Kavino
Probably cried about it and apologized.
Dan Byer
I'd imagine Jim Joyce even called postseason games, an illustrious career for what he did. But, oh, Jim Joyce, the guy that effed up the perfect game. I guess so.
Rich
And then it was the next day that Armando Galaraga handed out the lineup card. And now I look back and be like, what a. What a sinister move by the Tigers. Because, remember, Joyce got emotional at that point. Like, we thought it was like a goodwill gesture. And now I look back and, like, diabolical. Yeah, exactly. Like, what kind of move was that?
Dan Byer
I got one as. As a guy that I thought he played on a bunch of teams and, you know, an all star, I bet you you remember having his Team USA card. Robin Ventura, great player. Great postseason player.
Kavino
Nice fellow, too.
Dan Byer
But you say Robin Ventura, you picture Nolan Ryan. I'm giving him a knuckle sandwich, hitting him in the head over and over and over.
Kavino
That's such a answer. Because it's so unfair. It was so out of the character of Robin Ventura to even do such a thing. He was such a slick player, such a great white sock. He was great with the Yankees, still with the Mets, and, you know, just a solid career. And we always remember him getting nuggies from Nolan Ryan.
Dan Byer
He didn't even want to participate. If you watch the documentary Facing Nolan.
Kavino
It'S really unfortunate about Nolan Ryan.
Dan Byer
It was so reluctant. You notice Ventura hesitates at first because there was, you know, inter squad beef going on. And the dugout vibe was, if you get hit, you're charging the pitcher. And Robin Ventura is like, Nolan Ryan. Like, he didn't want to do it.
Kavino
And Ryan, big, strong man, strength, Texan sort of guy. Nolan Ryan, just not that type of player. I don't think he played with that sort of fury and fire. He was just like a smooth player. He played 16 years in the big leagues. Career batting average,267. Lower than I thought. But a great player. Good player. Known for getting punched in the head by Nolan Ryan forever. Forever. That's the truth. So this is our version of F1 goat. You know, you could be the greatest guy in the world. You could have worked at, you know, every charity event. You could have helped little children every time you saw him. You could be great with old people. But you F1 goat, you're forever that guy.
Dan Byer
And if you don't know that, that example is. It's like an old joke where, you know, a guy, a guy describes all these great things.
Kavino
You think there's someone out there that doesn't know the F1 goat reference, but please explain. I think people get it now. I mean, explain.
Dan Byer
I don't know. I mean, you said it's a matter of fact. I mean, we know the joking reference that, you know, you could do a million things. You F1 goat and you're the goat efforts for the rest of your life.
Kavino
That's what you're known for.
Rich
Yeah, Rich, you talked about the baseball example with Robin Ventura. How about a guy in the NBA who gets posterized and that's all they're pretty much remembered for. Like, he wasn't a big star in the league, but think of Chris Dudley. He played in almost 900 games, without a doubt. What's the one game you remember?
Kavino
The one game for me, Shaq. Throwing him, wrapping his legs around them and then tossing them. And then Dudley being like, hey, he gives the like, lamest.
Rich
Like happened in 1999. He pushed him to the ground.
Kavino
That's such a good one, man. Yeah. Had a stellar career, right? Think about it. You make it to the NBA and.
Rich
Dudley throws the ball at him.
Kavino
It's an accomplishment in itself, though, right? You're one of the few. You're one of the 1% less than that. That make it your childhood dream comes true, you're the pride of your family, the pride of your hometown, the pride of your alma mater. You make it to the NBA, and you have a great career, and you're a New York Knick, and you play at the Garden and everything, your last name's Dudley. That kind of sucks. But you're still up there with the big boys. Shaq posterizes you, wraps his legs around you and tosses you into the stands like a little baby boy. And that's forever. What you're remembered by, your forever highlight.
Dan Byer
Is on the receiving end of being punked.
Kavino
That's the worst. That's gotta sting. And by the way, we say that respectfully.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Kavino
You know, we're fans, so, yeah, you did it. You made it. But unfortunately, like, these moments define you, and it's not our fault. You know, blame pop culture. I don't know why people hang on to this stuff.
Dan Byer
If you want to chime in with.
Rich
Your example, you can say injuries in the whole deal. But when you have three of those five guys that you mentioned be injury prone guys, what I mean, you can't use injuries as an excuse. So I know you're going in a different direction and trying to find the one off thing. But in Nico's case, here again, solely for my social media publicity. But it is, like, in that way. I just don't buy his argument.
Kavino
And, Dan, it doesn't have to be something necessarily super negative, like the move he made here and the backlash he's getting. Just in one's life, sometimes your parents hold on to the weirdest things, and they always remember your one friend or ex girlfriend by that one weird thing you did. And they never let it go or drop it or. Rich, you and I, we've done 120 years of radio together, and people still refer to us as the guys that did the guac off competition. Or like, hey, it's the dude bros. Because we used to say dude bro a lot in our 20s, right? But people still say that. And sometimes it's hard to escape those things, you know, Nicole Harrison will never.
Dan Byer
Escape the Luca thing.
Kavino
He'll never escape it.
Dan Byer
Other examples, phones are lit. So, Danny, want to start at the top or we'll make our way down? We'll start with Eric and Dayton. Eric, you're on the show. What's up?
Rich
What's going on, dudes?
Dan Byer
What's up? First of all, awesome show. Thank you, man.
Kavino
What up, dude bro?
Dan Byer
I said fire Mike Woodson, Indiana. Die Hard. Guess what?
Rich
Bye, Felicia.
Dan Byer
He gone Boom.
Rich
But also, being from Indiana, die hard Chicago Cubs fan. You don't know where I'm going with this. Yo, me a Swiggy that I've been.
Dan Byer
Trying to win for months.
Rich
Steve bartman, Dusty Baker, 2003, Mark Pryor.
Dan Byer
Second year in the league, first time.
Rich
Flowing or throwing in the playoffs. Dude gets into a situation where it blows up and you don't take him out, he blows the game.
Dan Byer
It was game six, Dusty.
Kavino
It didn't.
Rich
Bartman didn't do anything. We could have won that game. We had an inning and a half left. And then you go on, you lose the next game.
Dan Byer
Yeah. People forget Bartman was like one little layer of so many things that went wrong in that game and for that series. So, yeah, Bartman's a great example. Mark in Syracuse. What's up, Mark, you're on.
Kavino
Hey, guys, great show.
Dan Byer
Thanks, man.
Rich
Just as you guys were talking, I was thinking two kinds. There's the self inflicted one like Nico, and then there's the other ones that happen through no fault of your own. So this one's the second, and I.
Dan Byer
Hope I got the guy's name right.
Rich
Ray Epps.
Dan Byer
I believe that's the guy.
Rich
Pete Rose with the All Star Game.
Kavino
Oh, with the interview that was.
Rich
No, Rose, I believe, ran him over.
Kavino
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Rich
Oh, Ray Fosse.
Kavino
And at first I thought he was talking about when Jim Gray kept bringing up the fact that it was his first time there and the allegations. Remember when they brought him back and he kept having that awkward interview moment. I didn't know what you were talking about.
Rich
Yeah. Ray Fosse was an All Star catcher.
Kavino
And he was pummeled.
Rich
Yeah. Later became Oakland A's broadcaster and yeah, forever. People think of him as the guy that Pete Rose bulldozed.
Dan Byer
He now this. He made me think of something, though, when you said Jim Gray. It made me realize there's a whole category of this that we're forgetting. And it's news people that say one flub and they could be the NBC, like, Chicago guy for 25 years. They could be the lead anchor, you know, for a major city for their whole life.
Kavino
It's one misstep.
Dan Byer
Like, I think of the guy out here. The guy out here, there was an earthquake in la. Who's like the, like, handsome black dude broadcaster that gets under the table during an earthquake and he puts his finger up in the air.
Rich
Shoble.
Dan Byer
Chris.
Rich
Is it Chris Schobel?
Dan Byer
Yeah, that guy. Always. Every time I see, I'm like, oh, the earthquake guy. There's People that say one flub on the news and that's their defining moment. Defining moment.
Kavino
Unfortunately, it's not fair, by the way.
Dan Byer
It's just what it is.
Kavino
And like our last caller said, sometimes you bring it upon yourself, but other times you don't. It just sticks with you for whatever reason. 87799 on Fox.
Dan Byer
Dwayne.
Kavino
More examples.
Dan Byer
Dwayne, Texas. What's up, Dwayne?
Rich
Hey, thanks for taking my call.
Dan Byer
I bought my tickets for Vegas, so.
Kavino
I'll see you there in June.
Dan Byer
I' nice, man.
Rich
If I say the name Craig Elo, what do you think of Craig Elo?
Kavino
No, no, tell us when Jordan shot.
Dan Byer
Over him to win the.
Rich
To win the game.
Kavino
Yeah, see that. That completely sucks. If that's. That was a game 5 DB. If that is what you're defined by.
Rich
The famous video where you're seeing it from behind and Jordan gets the hops on the shot.
Kavino
Yeah, that's horrible.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Kavino
You don't. See, you don't want to be defined by that, but is there, in a way, it's kind of cool?
Rich
I don't know.
Dan Byer
In that case, you know what? I want to. Let's skip to line six for a second because I love Greg's example and West Harford. Greg, you're on the show.
Kavino
Yeah, I'm just going to say his name.
Dan Byer
Mark Sanchez. What do you think of Mark Sanchez? I mean, geez. I mean, the guy had a career where he took the jets further than any other quarterback in the last 25 years. Mark Sanchez is a great guy. Insightful brother.
Kavino
So how do you erase these moments, then, when it's unfair? Like. That's unfair, right? That's an unfair one.
Dan Byer
Lean into it, maybe like I'm butt fumble guy. What? I don't know.
Kavino
You gotta reinvent yourself, you know, and along the lines of Nico Harrison. On a much smaller level, Our buddy Steve Phillips never outran that Mo Vaughn sort of move. I feel like that haunted him back in the day. I remember a lot of people being mad about that. It's always the missteps that people hold on to. You could do a million great things. It's the missteps that people remember. So just have the wherewithal to think ahead.
Dan Byer
Sometimes someone sleeps with one person they shouldn't sleep with, and that's their reputation forever.
Kavino
Yeah, it's unfortunate what you got, Ryan.
Dan Byer
Tom Chambers ducking over Mark Jackson.
Rich
You don't remember that?
Dan Byer
I do. I do. You know what? While you were thinking that, I had just. I was thinking NFL and for some reason, I realized Cam Newton, such a, you know, a boisterous, fun personality in sports now, you know, really thinks high of himself, thinks he's greater than everyone. People all picture Cam Newton not going for that fumble in the super bowl, letting that loose ball just sort of linger around him. So to me, you say Cam Newton, I think that lazy play.
Kavino
So some things are more forgivable than others. This Nico Harrison, still fresh and. And this wound is still right, so I understand it. But a lot of these we hold on to, and it's really not fair.
Dan Byer
Let's. Let's say hi to Ronnie, then we'll go to DB for an update. Ronnie in Vegas.
Kavino
Hey, what up, Ronnie?
Dan Byer
Real quick, Ronnie, what's up?
Rich
Hey, guys.
Kavino
How you guys doing?
Rich
Thanks for taking my call.
Kavino
Thank you, man.
Rich
I want to say Chris Weber, dude.
Kavino
Timeout.
Dan Byer
Yeah, timeout.
Kavino
Yeah. Yeah.
Dan Byer
That's. I mean, perfect example of what we're talking about. Chris Weber, great, amazing college career. Great NBA career. Guy calls a timeout when there's no timeouts. That's his. That's the lead.
Kavino
Those are lasting images, lasting memories. And you got to figure out. Here's the key. Figure out a way to erase it. Please. There's gotta be a way.
Dan Byer
All right, Dan Byer. What's doing, buddy?
Rich
Nico Harrison still has a job as a gm. That's not the case with Landry Fields fired today by the Atlanta Hawks as their general manager.

Brought to you by Novartis, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports Network. Bring up one thing you talked about those pharmacy toys that, you know, we all got as kids color forms. The Easter Bunny brings a little, you know, as you said, the pharma type of toys. Yeah.
Kavino
The Woolly Willy. Do you remember the Woolly Willy?
Dan Byer
Who doesn't? That's the guy you can make a mustache on, right?
Kavino
Yeah. Sounds the mag.
Dan Byer
The magnet stuff.
Kavino
Yeah, it's not.
Dan Byer
So I wanted to get my kids some baseball cards and I told them, I said, hey, listen, Easter Bunny's gonna bring you other stuff, but dad wants to bring you to the baseball card shop.
Kavino
Nice.
Dan Byer
And let me tell you something. Not as easy to find baseball cards as when we were kids. I know we went to the baseball card shop, but. But you almost got to seek a place out because Walmart no longer carries baseball cards. Target, much like Pokemon cards, if you got a little kid, always hobby shacks. So there's always going to be the local baseball card shop and you hope they're open. You hope they got what you want. But I was, I was stunned at how much cards are nowadays. It is.
Kavino
There's a lot of special cards out.
Dan Byer
There saying, no, I'm talking regular tops.
Rich
Oh, it's a big business.
Dan Byer
20, 25.
Kavino
Is it bad to, to. What's the politically correct term to take a card back that you gave to somebody? I don't know the political. I don't know the politically correct term for that. I'm riding the dump button, so be careful. No, no, no. But my. This weekend, this Easter weekend, my sister said, remember those stacks of cards you gave to Jamesy? I was like, yeah. She's like, you know, there was an autograph Shohei Ohtani in there.
Dan Byer
I was like, what?
Kavino
I was like, I'm sorry, can I have it back please?
Dan Byer
You giver of things that you want back.
Kavino
Like, can I get that back?
Rich
As close to re gifting was the close that I could call. I don't know if that's exactly what.
Dan Byer
It is, but I, Denny G, Dan Byer Cavino, you guys all, as we kids, we talk about baseball cards as kids, right? I'm not trying to sound like when.
Kavino
I was your little boy.
Dan Byer
I try to sound like the old timey time guy. But I feel like there was a point where stadium club and upper deck, there were a couple dollars a pack. And I remember my grandfather get him.
Kavino
At the 7:11 or the quick check or the local bodega always had him on standby a couple bucks. Your dad would be buying some cigarettes, a coffee and some scratch offs and he'd throw in a pack of cards for you.
Rich
Did you get a hobby pack or a blaster pack or. I'm telling you, it's ridiculous.
Dan Byer
I go there and these are not the Dan Patrick Panini collectible ones he does reads for. I'm talking like, I was just like, let me just get some. I was really trying to find like the cheapest cards because my kids are.
Kavino
Not going to like take the basket, right?
Dan Byer
They're not going to take care of them. And I said, I'll throw these in here with the Easter bunny stuff because I want you guys to have some baseball cards. And these are the most basic. Tops, 20, 25, no, you know, no shiny, no inserts, none of that stuff. Basic cards. Aaron Judge is on the COVID A super pack, which is still 40 cards. So don't get me wrong, it's like a thick ass pack.
Kavino
You know, you can get them. Surprisingly. Car wash sells them. Yeah, they have them there once in a while. Maybe I should buy some since they're so hard to find.
Dan Byer
40 cards. So it's a big ass pack of cards. Would you believe it? Was 30 bucks.
Kavino
That's insane. No, I don't believe that. 30 bucks.
Dan Byer
And then I looked at. Well, maybe I look online.
Kavino
That's a lap dance and a half worth of cards they have. Wait, hold on. How much is lap dance nowadays?
Dan Byer
25 last. No way.
Kavino
Really? I did 5 bucks. Goes to show you what a good guy I am.
Dan Byer
But point is, the kids still get fascinated by it. But it's not a cheap thing. 30 bucks are a big value pack of Topps cards.
Kavino
Tough times for the Easter Bunny.
Dan Byer
And it was.
Kavino
What happened to Silly Putty.
Dan Byer
Guess my son the other day I was telling you who. Let's see if you pay attention to my stories. Who do my son say his two favorite players are?
Kavino
He said Lindor.
Rich
Yeah.
Kavino
And Ohtani. And Ohtani. Yeah.
Dan Byer
It was a Dodger in his mega pack. He pulled the Lindor and Ohtani.
Kavino
No way.
Dan Byer
And I almost want to be like, buddy, that's like, you got lucky, pal. It doesn't always happen. I was like, so he got usually.
Kavino
Get a bunch of Johnny Grubs and Don Assis.
Dan Byer
Oh, man, another Jeff Musselman.
Rich
You know what they do in some. Some companies, and I'm not sure exactly which ones is now, they'll put old players in, like guys who had already played. So when you and I were growing up, we'd be like, oh, look, I got Dwight Stevenson, center, right? You know, from the Miami Dolphins. There's no lineman in any of these anymore. Like, it's been replaced by like Thurman Thomas, you know. Oh, I got a Troy Aikman card in this pack. 20, 25, whatever. It's completely different game.
Kavino
They're switching it up, man. But there's definitely a huge. A growing buzz again around all these cards for sure.
Dan Byer
And just for all the parents whose kids are into. I roll my eyes at it, but hey, my son loves it. Pokemon Pokemon cards are like five to ten dollars minimum per little pack. Like, it's a market, man. You know what?
Kavino
Let me promote our bonus pod then, Rich Over Promised because we talked about the greatest athletes of all time, but we also talked about the greatest polls in baseball cards, basketball cards especially. We talked about it on Over Promised. Our bonus podcast, fox Sports Radio's YouTube page, episode 88. And this week, I think KFC from Barstool stopping by the show. So that's on fox Sports Radio's YouTube page because we always run out of time on this show. So over promise. Check it out.
Dan Byer
Did you happen to see that clip? Dan Byer, big cat from Barstool it's insane.
Kavino
That is such a cool clip. It really is. Of.
Rich
Of doing what?
Dan Byer
So big cat who. You know. Pardon?
Rich
Yeah.
Dan Byer
Part of my take on barstool, he's doing a. He bought a pack of. He's doing a basketball fleer from, like, 86.
Rich
Okay.
Dan Byer
Yeah, the Jordan rookie.
Rich
Sure. Yes.
Dan Byer
And I think he spent, like, you know, those packs go for like, 800 a pack.
Rich
Yes.
Dan Byer
Wouldn't you believe it? Second card, they're slowly opening. He pulls a Jordan rookie. Yeah, a Jordan rookie. Which could. It could be hundreds of thousands of dollars based on the rating.
Rich
Yes.
Dan Byer
So a big payoff, but it was pretty cool. Like, just watching the. On the unopening of that pack gave me anxiety.
Kavino
Speaking of cards, back in the day, which was a Tuesday, I do remember collecting wrestling cards. They were grimy. They were old school wrestling cards, and it's crazy to see how much it's grown. This weekend we saw WrestleMania, and the big story is John Cena's back. John Cena's the man.
Dan Byer
Not only is John Cena back, not just him, seems like some of his hair is back.
Kavino
That's the story.
Dan Byer
Take a listen to Cena. He was on the Pat McAfee show this morning post WrestleMania.
Kavino
That's the thing when you get it.
Rich
Like, so you get the deal, right?
Kavino
And your hair falls out because the new ones have to grow, so the.
Rich
Old one falls out. So, like, in January, February was like.
Dan Byer
I had it in November.
Kavino
That's when I came, like, half a.
Rich
Skin hit up here, you guys.
Dan Byer
By the way, thank you for being.
Kavino
So aware of my needs and emotions because you guys ripped me to shreds for a genetic problem that I can't control. Hey, dude, you don't look good enough out there.
Rich
Like, that's what I'm saying. This isn't cool.
Kavino
You guys aren't cool to me.
Dan Byer
There's John Cena. Talk about how he was bullied into fixing his hair.
Kavino
Well, he was going bald. It wasn't a good look. It wasn't working for him.
Rich
Right.
Kavino
And as Scott Van Pelt always says, yeah, just take it home. Take it home. At that point, I don't know if it was take it home worthy, but it was noticeable.
Rich
Right.
Kavino
He had a noticeable bald spot. Couldn't help but notice it wasn't receding.
Dan Byer
He actually had, like, the circle on top.
Kavino
I do think we as men have to be more accepting of these things and. And just sort of lean into it. Like, we worked with a guy that wore a hat for, like, two Months straight. And everyone was talking about him behind his back because everybody knew, like, and once he took the hat off, he had a full on pompadour. Right. So I think we need to just be more understanding of that and make it more acceptable because it's becoming more and more common. People are doing all these trips to Turkey, these all inclusive trips, coming back with full heads of hair. You know, women are doing things all the time. Hey, we gotta be okay with dudes fixing their hair.
Dan Byer
I was gonna say women. Women do these type of things all the time. And they talk about it with each other and publicly. Some girl will be right on tick tock being like, I'm going for my Botox and filler in my. In my ass tuck and whatever.
Kavino
Guy doing something with his hair, we crucified.
Dan Byer
Yeah. Guy has to be all guys. Guy has to hide it under a.
Kavino
Hat for, you know, the rest of his life.
Dan Byer
A guy fixing his hairline has the secrecy of a girl getting a boob job in the 80s.
Kavino
We have to be like, you go, queen. We have to do that. You go, Cena. Way to go, buddy. Because. And you know why I want to do that? Cuz it might be me one day. And I don't want to hear flack from anybody.
Dan Byer
I'm fascinated by when women do things to improve their looks. It's encouraged and they cheer each other on.
Kavino
Yes. Bam ba boom.
Dan Byer
I applaud John Cena because I saw John Cena come back and he had his floppy, almost like his 1990s mushroom haircut. I'm like, yo, he's got a big bald spot. It looks terrible. And so. But I didn't say it out loud, but I noticed it. And I thought to myself, here's John Cena, movie star, wrestler, champion.
Kavino
You said it, man. It's genetics. And that's why LeBron can't do anything about it. It's just, you know, in his DNA at this point. And I'm sure he's tried, and we've seen it appear and reappear and disappear and all that, but he was sort of bullied into it. So think about this, FOX Sports Radio Nation, because I have an answer. We all have an answer. We'll go around the room. Let's chop it up. The times you were bullied into doing something, but it was for your own benefit, for your greater good. I was bullied and I held out so long, I was ruining the group text messages for so long because I had an Android.
Dan Byer
Oh, you did?
Kavino
I had an Android. So ooh oh, so you're that guy. People like, here's what happened then. You know, I was going on dates, and then I was realizing, this is when I was single. I just got out of a divorce. And people, the women I was dating, they're like, he has an Android. So I was getting looked down upon. And then I met a girl. A girl that I'm currently with till this day. She's like, if you're gonna date me, you gotta get rid of that Android. I'm like, wow, this is serious, huh? This is a real thing. And between her and all my buddies and Rich, and I'm ruining the group messages and all that stuff because my texts were green. It was a. It was an issue, I guess. I got bullied into finally getting an iPhone. And I have to say, you know, I like it. I guess I'm more accepted. It works. It didn't change my life, but at least I got you off my back. So I'm a fan, but I wasn't really against the Android. But, Rich, I was totally bullied into that by you guys and my current girlfriend.
Dan Byer
What were you bullied into doing that benefited you?
Kavino
Yeah, I guess. I guess you could say it benefited me in the sense that people don't look down on me anymore because of the Android.
Dan Byer
It could be a show, it could be a movie. It could be something you do. I feel like. I feel like. Like I was sort of shamed into trying sushi for the first time.
Kavino
How about we shamed you into getting a fade? This guy had a haircut like he was Mel Gibson up until.
Dan Byer
Have a Mel Gibson haircut.
Kavino
Did we not, like, bully him into getting a fade? Yeah, he had, like, a George Washington, like, side. This guy had, like, old wig. Yeah, he had, like, mad dog, like, cocker spaniel ear flaps. Yeah. You know, like, where the hair went over his ears. He had side poofs. And we were like, dude, just can you please get, like, a normal buzz cut from a barber? He would sit under those moon things that old ladies sit under the salon.
Dan Byer
This is all he had. Like a hair net.
Kavino
Yeah. Rich would do that at the salon all the time. And now, ironically, Rich, he used Aquanet. Like, a longer hairdo is coming is back now. So you might have to grow your hair back. But for the longest time, we're like, dude, will you just get a fade? You had old guy hairdo.
Dan Byer
It was the right move. But you act like, I just had longer hair on the sides. I used to have a woman cut.
Kavino
When it was not with style.
Dan Byer
With scissors.
Kavino
Now it's. Now a longer hairstyle is probably in style. You should probably go back. But for the longest time, he had never gone to a barber. Never, up until maybe five, six years ago, had never gone to a barber. And we bullied him into it.
Dan Byer
You got it. You got to accept it sometimes. Sometimes your friends or family might bully you into something. And at first you might be like, oh, I want to know. And then you're like, you know what? Thanks for doing that, because I'm better off for it.
Kavino
I mean, I hear this a lot when it comes to nose jobs and things like that. Like, certain people, like, they don't want to, but then they're haggled and harassed so much, and it turns out to be the greatest thing they ever did. Now, I'm not condoning or promoting that. I'm saying certain things might work to your advantage, and you put it off for so long. How about Spot with the gym? If you ask Spot, we. We bullied him in the early 2000s all the time, and he has all this crazy resentment about how we bullied him, but we would say he was paying for a gym membership and never went. Now this guy thinks he's an Adonis flexing all the time because we bullied him to go into the gym. If anything, we should get a little credit.
Dan Byer
That's what I'm saying.
Kavino
I know. Now he's Mr. Ripple Pecs. I give you zero credit. I know, but, dude, how much. How often do we tell him? You would just mock me. We would go for not going to the gym with us. Come to the gym. You never went to that gym. We didn't tell him to go to the gym all the time, and he never went to the gym. He never came with me. I didn't know what to do. Now he's a gym rat. Now I know what to do. Now he's a gym rat.
Dan Byer
But a lot. John Cena. Just something to keep in mind. You might assume all bullying is bad. John Cena talked about it on McAfee today. Not all bullying is big.
Kavino
Sometimes it's just solid encouragement.
Dan Byer
Yeah. Enough people say something to you, you know, might better.
Kavino
You know, it's all in the presentation. Might change the better it really is. Because if you like John Cena, we could all say he's, dude, I love John Cena. I think it's a solid move for him. He has a lot of tread on the tires still, as they say. So for him to rock that bald spot in a spotlight like that where he's supposed to be the cool guy in the ring. I don't think it matched his vibe. Don't you think? I think it was a good move for him.
Dan Byer
I think John Cena, unless he shaved.
Kavino
His head completely, I think it was.
Dan Byer
The right move for sure. So Cena, the big star. The big star.
Kavino
That was John Cena. I thought that was Ernest from He.
Dan Byer
Does Ernest P. Worrell.
Kavino
I thought Ernest Pete Worrell was on steroids. So Ernest saves WrestleMania.
Rich
No, that wasn't it.
Kavino
No, that wasn't it. Your phone calls. You were bullied into something, but it was the solid move.
Dan Byer
Joe in Virginia, we'll start with you a la John Cena. Have you ever been bullied into something and you're like, you know what? I'm sort of glad. I'm sort of glad I was. What's up, man? Hey, guys.
Rich
Not necessarily bullied into too much, but my old man talked me into a pedicure one time when I was totally against. And I'll tell you what, when you're done as a guy getting your first pedicure, you're gonna be so happy with the softest feet, the best feeling calves you've had, you won't knock them anymore.
Kavino
Oh, is that why they call you soft foot Joe?
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Kavino
Thank you, buddy.
Dan Byer
Joe.
Kavino
Sfj, everybody.
Dan Byer
That's a great example, because I have had. I've gotten pedicures with my wife and ex girlfriends, and there are guys like.
Kavino
Pedicure, I would never.
Dan Byer
And I'm like, oh, if you only.
Kavino
Now Rich's wife gets pedicures with Rich.
Dan Byer
It's true.
Kavino
Yeah. Now he makes the appointments. But again, it works to your advantage. I'm sure. It's a life changer. You know, these guys bully me every time we're out to dinner. They bully me into trying something new, some sort of seafood thing that I. I'm sure I've had before, but I don't want it. But they just won't stop until I try it. Every once in a while, you'll come across something like, you know what? I think I like it. So sometimes it could work to your advantage.
Dan Byer
Something to keep in mind. All right. Hey, coming up, we are going to play a little NFL draft trivia. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Three sleeps. As my kids would say. Three sleeps until the NFL draft.

Good looking bottle, man. We're gonna. We'll play duty. It's Sapphire, Midnight Black. It says Covino and Rich, Fox Sports Radio. It says on it. It's a real nice water bottle for your kid to lose. And, you know, it's multiple choice. It's NFL Draft trivia. But multiple choice. Like, Rich, what kind of jeans, what kind of jean shorts was Brett Favre wearing when he was drafted? Were they A, Lee's, B, Levi's, C Wrangler, or D, Jordache?
Dan Byer
Oh, I'm gonna go C Wrangler.
Kavino
C Wranglers. Correct.
Rich
Wow.
Kavino
He was wearing Wrangler J.
Dan Byer
Okay, perfect.
Kavino
Actually, I made that up.
Dan Byer
Speaking of which. But I assume, I assume what jean shorts was John Cena wearing last night?
Kavino
Oh, I don't. Jinko.
Dan Byer
Yes, man. You want it on this?
Kavino
It's all multiple choice. It's all fun. But it's going to get you hyped for the NFL Draft trivia. I mean, NFL Draft this weekend. This week. And we'll give away a prize in return. How's that? I think 877-99 on Fox.
Dan Byer
I think the NFL Draft going to be a lot of fun. And we talked about it within the last week after WrestleMania last night. NFL Draft is this week. And every weekend. I know you're watching some type of ufc. I was trying to think, is there a fourth? And I can't think of a fourth. I've. I think I'm setting in stone the top three things that have come the furthest in our lifetime. NFL Draft.
Kavino
Yeah.
Dan Byer
UFC and WrestleMania.
Kavino
As far as evolution.
Dan Byer
As far as evolution, man, it's unbelievable. And if you want to get hyped up, hold on.
Kavino
Ufc.
Dan Byer
NFL Draft.
Kavino
NFL Draft. NFL draft's definitely one of them. When you think of how it was, really nothing.
Dan Byer
Well, I was going to say nothing.
Kavino
To something foo fighter style.
Dan Byer
If you want to. If you have won a little homework assignment and you want to watch something fun as we get ready for the NFL Draft, from Elway to Marino is a really great 30 for 30. And it's a reminder that it was 40, 40ish years ago. There was a bunch of dudes smoking cigars with.
Kavino
Now all three things you described are.
Dan Byer
Spectacles with tan phones in a wooden paneled room making their picks.
Kavino
All right, well, you could add to the list at Covino and Rich, but now it's time to play NFL Draft trivia.
Rich
All right, here we go. NFL Draft trivia. We are kicking off draft week by testing your knowledge. We're going to meet the contestants right now. Yeah, turn that music up for me. Big Ryan, the man who was once mistaken for Tommy DeVito at the Newark Airport. Steve Covino.
Kavino
That's me. What's up?
Dan Byer
Stevie Cutlets.
Kavino
Stevie Cutlit Cutlets, man. Stevie Pork Chops.
Rich
And the man who once drank six glasses of wine out of 49ers home game. Rich Davis, it's likely.
Kavino
And spilled soup on his lap.
Dan Byer
I did. I did spill soup on my lap.
Kavino
And I did see Tommy Cullitz at the airport. That's the story.
Rich
And there's no picture proof.
Kavino
No.
Rich
And right over there, the man who first suggested that Travis Hunter play on both sides of the ball. Spotty boy.
Kavino
That's true.
Dan Byer
You told him that years ago.
Kavino
Yeah, in high school.
Rich
And to my right, right beyond the glass there, the man who was once grounded as a kid for shaving the sides of his head to style A Brian Bosworth. Spike Dan Byer. I did want the Boz haircut. No one knew what I was talking about, but I did want that.
Dan Byer
Hold on, camino. In the 90s today. Any of your friends want to be like Anthony Mason or any of those Knicks with the hair?
Kavino
Are you serious? Of course.
Rich
Oh, yeah. They carved. Carved in words and everything. That was dope.
Dan Byer
I had one friend that, like, followed that lead, and his. His parents were okay with it. I'm like, man.
Rich
Oh, Anthony Mason. RIP. All right, let's go to the studio lines right now to see who's playing for a stainless steel Swiggy Damon in Montana. What up, Dame?
Kavino
What up?
Rich
What do you do for a living there in Montana?
Kavino
I work for a drywall supply company.
Rich
Cool. Drywalls help building America.
Kavino
Thank you, man.
Rich
Here are the rules for NFL draft trivia. The first contestant with two correct answers is the champ. If there's a tie, we have a tiebreaker question. Your name is your buzzer, but like always, you do have to wait until all three possible answers are read. If there's two wrong answers in a row, we move on to the next question. Are you ready?
Kavino
I'm ready.
Rich
Let's get it on. Here we go. Round one. What year was the very first NFL draft held? A, 1924. B, 1936. Or C, 1942?
Dan Byer
Damon.
Rich
Damon.
Kavino
I'm gonna say b.
Rich
B. 1936 is correct.
Kavino
Hey, good pull, man.
Rich
Damon on the board right away. I'm sorry, D.B. i was just gonna say, I don't think during wartime. The height of World War II. Let's have a draft. Wrong kind of draft. Yeah, right. Well, drafts were going on that year. All right. Yeah. February 8th, 1936. Dame, you are halfway to a Swiggy.
Dan Byer
I was drafted by the Bears. No. I'm going to Germany.
Rich
We move to round two. Damon on the board so far. Round two. What was Tom Brady once quoted saying about the NFL draft? A, I spent the draft actually helping my dad redo his backyard. Didn't even check my phone much. B, people didn't think I'd play one year in the NFL. Or C, it wasn't a chip on my shoulder. It was a bus.
Dan Byer
Ooh, Rich.
Rich
Rich.
Dan Byer
I feel like A, I feel like he was hanging out with his dad during the draft, Right?
Rich
No. Spot. Spotty for the steal.
Dan Byer
B.
Rich
Yes.
Kavino
Wow.
Rich
People did not think I'd play one year in the NFL.
Kavino
We all know that. Combine photo.
Dan Byer
Sexy, sexy Tom Brady combine. I think he got bullied into looking better.
Rich
So, so far, Damon and Spot on the board. I don't know what you guys, but I thought C was going to be like, I can't wait to get to the NFL and screw over the Raiders in a playoff game. That's awesome.
Dan Byer
Watch your mouth.
Rich
Round three. Here we go. Which NFL team traded up to draft Ricky Williams in 1999? A, the Miami Dolphins. B, the Baltimore Ravens. Or C, the New Orleans Saints. Steve Covino got in.
Kavino
The trick question is it A. Oh.
Rich
Maybe it tricked you. Not the Dolphins.
Dan Byer
Rich, go ahead, Dan.
Kavino
You go.
Rich
Saints.
Kavino
Saints, yes.
Rich
Remember, they. They basically gave away their entire team. Yeah. Move up there. All right, so, Damon, spot.
Kavino
But maybe I misunderstood the question.
Rich
Why couldn't. I'm going to give my point to Cavino then. Well, I know when I picture him running the ball, I picture him in a Dolphins jersey. All right, round four. Which team is responsible for the first NFL draft? A, the Chicago Bears. B, the Philadelphia Eagles or C, the Cleveland Browns? Damon. Damon. For the win. B, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dan Byer
You are right.
Rich
And you win.
Kavino
A. Swiggy earned it.
Rich
It was an idea from Bert Bell, who owned the Eagles at the time.
Kavino
Nice.
Rich
He wanted to even the playing field with the teams buying players who had more money.
Kavino
All right. Hey, way to go, Damon. Way to have her at home.
Rich
Yeah, like that drywall. Damon, we are gonna mail a beautiful CNR Swiggy to you there in Montana.
Kavino
You know what else he needs when he's doing that drywall and he's working hard? He needs some koozies. Yeah, keep his hands nice.
Rich
I'll throw some of those in the package.
Kavino
Yeah, throw some koozies in there. Thank you, Damon. And again, that's to get you hyped up for the NFL draft this week. NFL draft trivia brought to you by.
Rich
Danny G. And tomorrow on the Dan Patrick show, guess who's going to be joining us.
Dan Byer
Who's that?
Rich
Think of Tuesday's NBA playoffs. Shaq flying in on his private plane.
Kavino
Shaq Diesel trivia kid with his sweet yellow glasses that he's rocking. Love those.
Dan Byer
Let's go to Dan Beyer for an update. DB what's going on man?
Rich
What up DB and while you guys are on in the mornings, it'll be Monsey Balanos and myself tomorrow afternoon in your stead here on Fox Sports Radio.
Kavino
I like it.
Rich
Yes, we are looking forward to it as well. Gonna have a good time. We're gonna have a much better time than Nico Harrison has had over the last few months after trading Luka Doncic. It's been anything but good. The Mavericks GM today speaking with reporters and this, this exchange happened during that end of season press conference.
Dan Byer
Why shouldn't you be fired? One I think I've done a really.
Kavino
Good job here and I don't think I can be judged by the injuries this year.
Dan Byer
You have to judge from totality from beginning to end. And so I think I have a.
Kavino
Really good working relationship with Patrick.
Dan Byer
I think you add in Rick the leadership that we have is really elite.
Kavino
And you'll see next year when our team comes back. We're going to be competing for a.
Rich
Championship next year for Nico Harrison of the Mavericks is his message. Next year is when Cooper Flag's going to be in the NBA. That's because the Duke freshman and consensus player of the year in college basketball basketball entered the 2025 NBA Draft. Guys, back to you.
Dan Byer
Thank you, D.B.
Kavino
Thank you.
Dan Byer
As you talk about Nico Harrison, let me ask you guys, what does Nico Harrison have in common with Katy Perry?
Kavino
They didn't foresee the backlash.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Rich
I thought you were gonna say he's not a real astronaut.
Kavino
I was gonna say they both have great boobs, but I wasn't positive.
Dan Byer
Good guess.
Kavino
Yeah, I was there. I'm glad I was right, though. Yeah. Cause I. You know what? Back to the. The astronaut story. I know they're not astronauts.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Kavino
But it's amazing to me that it didn't dawn on them that they might get this amount of backlash. It never even dawned on them.
Dan Byer
Well, I think, you know what you saw William Shatner do a similar thing a couple years before, but, you know.
Kavino
He was Captain Kirk, space related, come back acting like he accomplished something either. I think that was the. The vibe or misconception, however you want to put it.
Dan Byer
Didn't Chad there do the whole, like. It was the most beautiful thing I've seen. He did.
Kavino
Yeah, he did. He didn't get the backlash that they got, but again, it was how it was presented.
Dan Byer
And when Katy Perry said, yes, I'll be the pop culture person that goes to, you know, into space, she never thought the world would be like.
Kavino
No. Or else they would have second guessed it.
Dan Byer
Yeah. The Nico Harrison, he got on the phone with Jeannie Buss and management with the intention of, like, the fans are going to like this.
Kavino
It's unbelievable. You got to have the foresight, the John Foresight, the 2020. You got to have the vision to know that there's a other side, a flip side to your potential moves. What are the repercussions?
Dan Byer
I'll give you a way dumbed down version of this. There are times in life, sports, entertainment, your marriage, your friendships, your work, where you just. You don't see it coming. Like, you. You've even thought it out in your head, like, all right, I'm gonna make this move. You're like, oh, I didn't anticipate this. And I think Nico Harrison, as we've talked about him a bunch today, he would have never thought, well, all right, I'm gonna. I'm gonna test the waters, and I think I'm gonna trade Luca. He never thought, wow, the city and everyone's gonna hate my. My.
Kavino
Because technically he does. He does make a point. Had everybody stayed healthy and had you gotten a healthy ad, Those are big Risks, Those are big what ifs.
Dan Byer
As Dan Byer said earlier, he's banking on a healthy, great players, but he's banking on everyone from Kyrie to AD to these guys to be healthy all the time.
Kavino
Yeah, aging superstars, too, who were injury prone. So it is a big risk. But he does make a point. It wouldn't have been as bad had they stayed healthy. Not the case. So there's the commonality between Nico Harrison and Gayle King, Katy Perry. They didn't see the repercussions here, the potential backlash that they'd get.
Dan Byer
And we talked about those being defining moments. But I think another fun angle is when you really didn't see it coming, like you may have done. A dumb example is I got all these old home videos of my mom when she was a little girl with her parents. I found them on the way to the 8 millimeter. I got them digitized and I put it to a slideshow with music and everything. And I gave it to my mom, thinking she was gonna be like, you're the greatest son ever. I thought I was gonna get pats on the back. Like, man, there's Richard.
Kavino
Never get it dawn on you that be an emotional moment.
Dan Byer
My mother was crying. He's like, this is the worst. Life is fleeting.
Kavino
Why would you do this to me? Why would you do this?
Dan Byer
I'm like, ah, but I so just to know that people in life, not just sports, make decisions, thinking, oh, I'm going to get a pat on the back. Meanwhile, the world ends up hating them. I was just looking at tonight's NBA games and our good friends at DraftKings.
Kavino
Yeah, couple props.
Dan Byer
I. I think I like. In fact, forget I think I do like Pistons at Knicks. Knicks are up one game.
Rich
How about that fourth quarter from them, right?
Dan Byer
I mean, oh, we're not in New York. So I feel like when I talk to my friends back east, there is a sense that, like, the Knicks do have a buzz again.
Kavino
No doubt.
Dan Byer
Yeah, it's. It's clear. But I just wonder tonight. Brunson scored 34 in game one. The over unders 30 and a half. I think I'm going under. I don't think. I mean, maybe. Maybe Pistons play tougher tonight. I don't know. I'm just.
Kavino
I just have a hunch saying to watch Cunningham and so. And who else towns for New York?
Dan Byer
I think under 30. And then I just think it's Joker domination time. I like Jokic 28 or over. So I like over on Jokic, under on Brunson. Who knows? We'll see. DraftKings. Have fun.
Kavino
And that side storyline is that Jokic has taken more of a leadership role in the clubhouse, in the locker room this playoff season, which is kind of cool.
Rich
That was the best game of the weekend. Went to overtime and blow for blow. I thought that was the most exciting game.
Dan Byer
You know, I had a thought over the weekend, Danny, and it has nothing to do with the NBA. As we get ready to get out of here, it's a question that has to do with sports, work, children and pets. I'm tying it all together. I saw that your boy. No, not church. No, I said children's children, sports, pets and work.
Kavino
That was a lot.
Dan Byer
Don't worry. I saw your boy, Shohei Ohtani. Shohei Ohtani.
Rich
Ohtani.
Dan Byer
Shohei Ohtani became a dad, and he wrote a really beautiful message on social media, and he missed the first two games of a series, and now he's back in action. And, you know, we all know he's famously has a little doggy that everyone loves. In fact, his dog has bobbleheads.
Rich
Decoy.
Dan Byer
Decoy the doggy.
Kavino
I also saw something today that the biggest star in New York baseball, not Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, I think, is on paternity leave right now, so. Had a baby, too.
Dan Byer
I get it. All good. No problem with the paternity leave. Ohtani's back. I'm just asking you because, Kavino, you're a dad.
Kavino
I am.
Dan Byer
Your daughter's a teenager.
Kavino
Yeah.
Dan Byer
When your girlfriend have no kids together, but you have a doggy.
Kavino
Yeah. It's his birthday today.
Dan Byer
And I. Yeah. So see, it all ties together.
Kavino
Yeah.
Dan Byer
Theo, I saw Covino's little doggy over the weekend on Instagram, and your girlfriend went out and bought him with those cute little cakes made for dogs. And I said to Covina, if you become a dad again and have more kids, that'll fade away. I'm under the belief that people that have all this love for pets, when you have kids.
Kavino
Yeah, but you're not a pet person.
Dan Byer
When you have kids, the dog love fades. I believe you still love your pet.
Kavino
But I'm telling you, I understand what you're saying, because I do have a child, but I think that you and I both aren't true animal people. And if you're a true animal person, you still have kids, still love your.
Dan Byer
Animal, but your girlfriend's the type that buys clothes for your dog, and that's not true. Yankees jersey.
Kavino
She has one Yankee jersey.
Dan Byer
The other day, you bought your dog shoes.
Kavino
Yeah. He hasn't worn them.
Rich
Some leather pants.
Kavino
Yeah.
Dan Byer
He bought his dog shoes. And he's saying he's denying this.
Kavino
I mean, he's got cooler shoes than you, if you want to be honest about it.
Dan Byer
Air wolfies.
Kavino
But yeah, well, you know, you gotta keep things in mind. You're painting a weird and inaccurate picture here. We live in Los Angeles, so it's either I take. How am I going to take this dog out for a walk? If you don't put something on his feet, it's going to burn his feet. These are little foofy dogs. We're talking little foofy dogs.
Dan Byer
Dogs have lived generations.
Kavino
You know how not under the LA sun. I don't know. Maybe they have burnt feet. I'm not a dog person. I don't know what to tell you.
Dan Byer
I'm just saying.
Kavino
They tell you not. They tell you not to take your dog out for a walk.
Dan Byer
I'm just saying when it's that hot out, then forget you. Does Shohei Otani care less about his dog today? Because now he has a father of a human. And my answer is yes.
Kavino
I think it's how you come into the situation. You came into situation not really caring about your dog in the first place. So of course your kids are gonna take precedent. Your kids are always gonna take precedent. That's a given. You can't compare the love of your kids to an animal.
Dan Byer
I just feel.
Kavino
But I think that some people who care about their dog genuinely are still gonna have that same genuine care for their dog. They're just gonna love their kids more. Not every dog takes a backseat and is almost thrown out of the family. Like your dog. Dog. I don't know. Richard never hasn't walked his dog since he had kids. That's the truth.
Dan Byer
The dog doesn't go for walks. Yeah, exactly. Bulldogs aren't supposed to go for walks.
Kavino
Yeah, when they're £300. Because you haven't walked them. Exactly.
Rich
He's been in his crate ever since he was born.
Kavino
Your thoughts? You could chime in at covinoenrich. Show continues there.
Dan Byer
Shohei doesn't care about his dog anymore. We'll see you guys arrive at baby.
Kavino
See you in the promised land.

Podcast Summary: The Best Of Covino & Rich The Herd with Colin Cowherd | Released April 22, 2025
Episode Overview
In the episode titled "The Best Of Covino & Rich," hosts Covino and Rich dive deep into the intricate world of sports, exploring pivotal moments, controversial decisions, and personal anecdotes that shape the landscape of various athletic disciplines. The conversation spans across NFL drafts, NBA general management, memorable sports blunders, and engaging trivia segments, offering listeners a comprehensive and entertaining journey through current and historical sports narratives.
General Managers and Controversial Decisions
A significant portion of the episode centers around the critical analysis of General Manager (GM) decisions in professional sports, particularly focusing on Nico Harrison's tenure with the Dallas Mavericks. Covino and Rich scrutinize Harrison's controversial move to trade Luka Doncic, examining the repercussions of such decisions on team morale and fan sentiment.
Rich Byer remarks, "Nico Harrison could go on to be the GM or front office or. You know, he worked for Nike for a long time before he entered the NBA. But he'll forever be remembered for this move" ([13:55]).

Defining Moments in Sports Careers
Covino and Rich delve into the concept of "defining moments" that unfairly label athletes and professionals based on singular incidents. They cite examples like Bill Buckner and Brian Bosworth to illustrate how one pivotal moment can eclipse years of dedication and achievement.
Covino reflects, "You could be the greatest guy in the world. You could have worked at every charity event... but you’re forever that guy," referencing Buckner's infamous error ([14:22]).
Rich concurs, sharing, "He's known for getting punched in the head by Nolan Ryan forever," when discussing Brian Bosworth's reputation ([16:37]).
The conversation extends to media figures and how single mistakes, such as Jim Joyce's missed call during Armando Galarraga's near-perfect game, can define public perception regardless of their professional track record. "Jim Joyce, the guy that messed up Galarraga's perfect game," Rich notes ([16:54]).

NFL Draft Trivia Segment
Adding an interactive element, Covino and Rich host an NFL Draft trivia game segment, challenging themselves and a contestant named Damon with questions about NFL history and notable figures. This segment not only entertains but also tests their sports knowledge in a competitive yet friendly manner.
Rich poses the first question: "What year was the very first NFL draft held? A, 1924. B, 1936. Or C, 1942?" ([58:31]). Damon correctly answers B, 1936, earning a spot on the leaderboard.
The trivia continues with questions about Tom Brady's draft quotes and Ricky Williams' draft history, fostering engagement and showcasing the hosts' expertise and quick-thinking skills. "People did not think I'd play one year in the NFL," Tom Brady's quote is discussed as Damon selects the correct answer ([59:58]).
Defining Backlash and Public Perception
A recurring theme in the episode is the impact of public backlash on individuals' reputations, especially when their actions are misunderstood or misrepresented. The hosts explore how unforeseen consequences can derail careers and the importance of foresight in decision-making.
