She's interviewing Luca and Luca says when he found out the news, he was in bed. When he found out about the trade, dude was in bed and he said, and I quote, is it April 1st? His heart was broken, honestly. And he took his phone and he. Here's the meat of the story. He took his phone and threw it against the wall. I'm assuming he threw it and he broke it. I'm wondering and guessing where. Maybe he slammed it on the floor. Maybe he slammed it.

Oh, I was wondering, does he have. Does the Apple care?

No. Because Malika then goes to say, do you still have it? And they bring it in, it's all cracked up. She goes, does it still work? And he's like, yeah, it's a great endorsement for an iPhone, but it's in a million pieces. Cracked in a million pieces. But if you missed it, take a listen.

But for him to admit that his heart was broken honestly in a, in a vulnerable moment, and he believed that it was April 1, like a bad joke. Goes to show you how it really affected him, man. And to react in that way. I'm not saying he has anger issues, but I think it really hit him in a serious way. So we posed this question first and first. Mostly, what are your thoughts on that? But also, have you ever been so mad you did something stupid like that and immediately regret it?

People do it all the time. I think they're assholes. But to me, to break your own.

[Steve Covino]

Property, It's a line from Goodfellas. I believe when the women would spit in their own house and Karen's like, they would spit in their own home. I never understood that. Like, why would you do that to your own stuff? It's like the jabroni that breaks the TV when his team loses impulse control. Aside from just wanting to go viral and for the clicks, I just don't get it.

[Rich Davis]

That's the stupidest thing ever.

[Steve Covino]

Yeah.

[Dan Byer]

I think nowadays you see like a Dallas Cowboys fan and it's all staged because they're getting rid of their old crappy flat screen and buying a new one for like 200 bucks at Walmart. So why do you have to destroy.

[Rich Davis]

It though, for a stupid bit?

[Dan Byer]

Well, they assume $200 is the cost of business, so they'll take their, you know, crappy old flat screen, knowing they're getting a new one and be like, cowboy's lost.

Slam it down. Try to get 100,000 views. It's ridiculous. But anyone that really breaks their own stuff, it's wild to me. I can never understand.

Well, or maybe it's few and far between where you're ever that mad and emotional. Because if you're a dad of a teenage kid, they could push you to their limits for sure. Like, I could tell you straight up, like, I start to see red and I, like, I want to bang my head through the wall, let alone throw something. So, you know, you have to practice restraint. But I've seen my dad. I saw my. My dad. I think he blew a circuit one time and he's never been the same since. My sisters pushed him to the limit. He had three teenagers at like one time, girls. And.

[Dan Byer]

And he's still alive.

[Steve Covino]

And he's still alive. But I remember that one time. I don't know what happened. Let's just say one of my sisters came home late or did something stupid. I just remember him taking the TV out of her room, ripping it out of the wall and throwing it down the steps. And he was like, ah, yeah, dude, I don't think he's ever been the same since I Think he blew a circuit, but. And my dad's a mild mannered dude, so if my dad, who's, you know, great dad, nice guy, could be pushed that far, I guess it could happen to anybody. Well, you're turning to the Incredible Hulk.

Your dad, big Steve Cavino, has five kids. You always tell the.

[Steve Covino]

You know what it was? My mom was probably squeezing his shoes all day and he had enough.

[Dan Byer]

You always tell the story of when you were a little boy and your dad, with all respect, was probably trying to get some booty.

[Steve Covino]

I mean, I don't know that. Listen, I mean, they had five kids. It's possible.

[Dan Byer]

I'd imagine Covino tells the story when he was a little kid. You know, when you're a little kid, you're like, mom, dad. And you keep calling them and you're bothering your parents and looking back, you're like, they were probably just trying to enjoy a little alone time and you're knocking on the door.

[Steve Covino]

No, I mean, he was probably watching Benny Hill downstairs in his tighty whities. That's really what he was probably doing.

[Dan Byer]

And my kids do it now. Dad, dad. What? You finally go in. Could I have water, please? Kids do this. It's the.

[Rich Davis]

It's the. Sorry. The Stewie. And from Family Guy goes, mommy, Mommy, Mommy. She's laying right there and she's just staring ahead. Lois. And she's what? You know, eventually she just snaps nothing.

[Steve Covino]

And that's exactly what it was.

[Dan Byer]

And your dad, did he not take one of your favorite toys?

[Steve Covino]

Yeah, he came into my room all mad and he's like, I told you to knock it off. My parents rarely discipline me, so it's the only stories I have. And he's like, what do you want? Like, nothing. Do it one more time to kick your ass. Whatever he said.

[Rich Davis]

I don't know.

[Steve Covino]

And of course, I called for my mom one more time. He came in busting in his tighty whities, and he's like, you like this guitar? And I'm like, yeah. And he snapped it. Like, where you go?

[Dan Byer]

Was your dad the honky tonk? You know what?

[Rich Davis]

I don't think I ever bo Jacksoned it like a bat.

[Steve Covino]

Yeah, I don't. That's it over his head, though. I don't think I ever recovered from that. So, yeah, my dad snapped my guitar like it was like a little toy guitar.

[Dan Byer]

Have you ever pulled a Luca? Have you ever been so mad where you lost your cool? I was bragging about how I don't ever lose my cool. And I just realized I did a couple years ago. My kids, they're seven and five now, so I'm guessing they were five and three, and they were just annoying the hell out of me. Something they were doing.

[Steve Covino]

Kids will push you, man.

[Dan Byer]

And I remember grabbing the remote control for our tv. Like our. You know, the smart TV remote.

[Steve Covino]

Everybody knows what a remote control is, guys.

[Dan Byer]

It controls your television.

[Steve Covino]

You know, the little thing with buttons for your tv, the little handheld device.

[Dan Byer]

And I just lost my cool. I'm like, you kids never listen to me. I took the remote, slammed it down on the floor. It shattered in, like, 25 pieces.

[Steve Covino]

I remember you telling me that. And your wife got mad at you.

[Dan Byer]

My wife's like, you know what you're gonna do right now? I'm like, what? She goes, you're gonna go to Best Buy or Target or somewhere and go buy a new remote because you're an idiot. I'm like, you're right. And because I'm like, I was mad at the kids, and now the TV was stuck on whatever was on. I had no remote.

[Steve Covino]

But I guess it happens. I've seen my mom throw a lot of things at my dad and at me, you know, I remember my mom threw a full on Canada dry soda can at me one time. I don't remember what I did.

[Rich Davis]

A full one.

[Dan Byer]

Yeah.

[Rich Davis]

That's gonna hurt. I know.

[Steve Covino]

Lucky I had matrix ninja skills.

[Rich Davis]

So chop that thing in midair, I'm.

[Steve Covino]

Sure it's gonna wall, right? Like, if there's a dent in your wall, there's a good chance that someone threw something or, I don't know, there was an accident or someone had a fit of rage.

[Rich Davis]

People punch the wall. They don't often think. Like, Andy in the office, he gets so mad, and he just punches the drywall.

[Steve Covino]

That happens a lot more than we realize.

[Rich Davis]

You do that a lot?

[Dan Byer]

No, it does. And I'll tell you why. Because my contractor, we redid our whole house when we bought it. It had not been touched since the 50s. So I spent a lot of time with my contractor, and he would tell me he had clients that would call him every so often. Like, yeah, can you do quick little patchwork, Little Sheetrock, a little spackle? Because people have tempers, and there's people that on the regular, will be like, ra. And punch the sheetrock in their house.

[Steve Covino]

I'll tell you what, Rich. I wouldn't throw my phone the way Luca did. But it does show you how. How it hit him, right? Like, he didn't think about it.

[Dan Byer]

You think deep down.

[Steve Covino]

I don't think it was like a money thing. That's another question. Because people.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah. He lost 100 million.

[Steve Covino]

People speculate. The tears. Right. Would he have.

[Rich Davis]

He loves Dallas.

[Steve Covino]

Traded that in, like, of course he didn't want it to happen. I think he's happy now. Of course. You know? Yeah, I think so. He has a chance to win. They've embraced him.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah, I know he looks like he's having fun now.

[Steve Covino]

I do think he's. He's settled in, but there's still some wounds, some scars, some. Some answers, probably that he wants. But he did get that closure recently. But here's what I would do, Rich. If my daughter was just misbehaving because a teenage kid, like I said, will push their limits, I would take her phone and throw it somewhere just to prove a point.

[Dan Byer]

Then you gotta buy her a new one.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah.

[Steve Covino]

But still, you know what I mean? I could see myself maybe getting to that point. I go, yeah, you know, I could see that. Because there's so little you could do to discipline a kid nowadays. There really is. There's really so little.

[Dan Byer]

The days of spanking and, like, old.

[Rich Davis]

School, especially as my child anymore, it's looked down upon. Yeah.

[Steve Covino]

I mean, geez, right?

[Rich Davis]

Like, so hard to parent these days.

[Steve Covino]

No. But I also, as a co parent, Sam. Right. Like, your hands are really tied because anything you do.

[Dan Byer]

Yeah.

Will be used against you by the child or the ex.

But you know what I did? I bought that phone. So you're giving me some crap. I'll take that phone.

[Dan Byer]

I'll throw it in.

When I was a little kid here in la, we had a neighbor named Luis. He lived two houses down. And he was. He was so scared to get into trouble because when he did something that made his mom or dad mad, he got a spanking out on the front lawn. His dad would take a kitchen chair out and spank him in public.

[Steve Covino]

Oh, it's the worst.

[Rich Davis]

Public lashings. Yeah.

[Steve Covino]

So we ask, send them over and.

[Rich Davis]

Spank them in front of the neighborhood. Fox Sports robs you of your dignity.

I want to hear your Kevin Brown moments, your Paul O'Neill uncontrollable moments. It's okay. Vent. Tell us, you know, make sense of this Lucas story, because that's the story right now. He was so mad. That's what happened. And he's still using that phone, which is amazing.

I'll tell you where this happens quite a bit. You know me, number one softball player in the Valley Here in California, I always use other people's bats, but there's guys that I play with that spend 3, $400 on a nice, like, top level, the Marini bat. Like these really torpedoes. Like, torpedo bats. No, but they spend a lot of money. And there's some hotheads that, like, pop up with runners on base. They'll take their bat, hit it against the fence. I'm like, you just broke a three. You just popped a $300 bat.

[Steve Covino]

And that's. It's really. Yeah. I don't know, man. Can't relate.

[Rich Davis]

Golf clubs are the same way. Like, if you're mad and you want to chuck it into the pond, and then you.

[Steve Covino]

So stupid.

[Rich Davis]

Right?

[Dan Byer]

Golf is a great one. I'm surprised we haven't thought of that yet. I need that.

[Rich Davis]

Yes. I need that golf club. It's not. And it's not the easiest. I mean, if you want a driver, sure, but there's several hundred dollars, depending on the range that it is. And then there's also just the awkwardness of driving with a person in the cart for the next 200 yards because they just threw their club into the pond.

[Steve Covino]

Well, I have a dumb question for you, D.B. yes, and I should know. My girlfriend actually works at a golf course. You think I would know some of this stuff? There are people. Yeah.

[Dan Byer]

Yes. Her name is Jordan Gilmore.

[Steve Covino]

You know, I know there's people that go into these lakes and they retrieve all these golf balls, and they come up. Do they retrieve a lot of clubs?

[Rich Davis]

I'm sure that they. They will. Time and again. I don't think it's littered like it would be with golf balls, but I'm sure you'll probably find a driver you have to wedge, depending on what.

[Steve Covino]

Funny.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah. You know, sandwich.

It's all evidence of angry people.

Hey, DB have you ever seen the viral clip recent? I saw some dude, he was on the putt. He was on the green, made a nice putt. He thought the ball was short. Slams down his putter, snaps in half, and then he gets the roll. So he made the shot, but he didn't let the. The ball had that last little.

[Rich Davis]

But was it hitting the ground that caused vibrations, like in Caddyshack, the. The dynamite exploding.

[Dan Byer]

This guy prematurely snapped his putter and then realized, oh, it did. I got the drop.

[Rich Davis]

I don't want to say it's common, but. By the way, I'm sorry to interrupt my thought. This Cubs Diamondbacks game right now.

[Steve Covino]

Oh, my God.

[Rich Davis]

Absolutely. Back and bonkers. Say, Suzuki just hit a Home run to extend the cubs lead to 13 to 11. This was a. After six innings, it was a 21 ballgame. It is now 13 to 11 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

[Dan Byer]

Wow.

And you said someone hit a granny, right? A little while ago.

[Rich Davis]

There have been two grand slams. Ian happy to grand slam for the cubs in the seventh. And then they added another, so they were up 71 heading to the eighth. The Diamondbacks then scored 10 runs in the top of the eighth inning with Eugenio Suarez hitting a grand Islam. Lourdes Guriel Jr. Hit a run shot in that same inning. Inning. So it was 11 to 7. Diamondbacks heading to the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Cubs have now scored six in the eighth. Kyle Tucker's hit a two run home run. I mentioned the Suzuki home run. Carson Kelly, who had a two run home run off Corbin Burns in the second inning, hit a three run shot. So he's knocked in five. It is crazy.

[Steve Covino]

And another hit just now.

[Rich Davis]

And this has been a standalone game. There's been no other games on today. So if you're fiending for baseball, maybe you have the day off. You're watching an incredible baseball game.

It's almost a little narcissistic after a little while. It's almost a little, like, too showy, and you're like, all right, you gotta tone it down a little bit.

You look like a big baby. And the only reason I was tolerant of it is cause I loved Paul O'Neal and I knew what he brought to the team. But if I was anyone else watching.

That, like, it's kind of cringey.

You're like, yeah, you would hate that.

I mean, at any level, think about from little league to rec sports, that you always know the guy that gets out, who kicks his glove in the outfield if he misses a fly ball, or the guy that's hits his bat against a fence. Like, you just broke a bat, like I said. Or like DB Said, golf clubs are victims. Tennis rackets. I just mentioned. How many times have you seen a tennis player, like, slamming down the. Those are nice rackets. Part of their collection.

I don't like that either. Yeah, I think that's a bad look. But, you know, you can't judge either, because I guess everyone has a breaking point. That's the other thing too. Like, Paul O'Neill is an exception. What? He had that many breaking points, he just couldn't control himself. Everybody has a breaking point. I think that was Lucas and I. You know, although I'm not a fan of this behavior, I don't think anybody is. I could see the shock that set in. He said he was in shock, and he was angry and everything. Can you imagine?

[Dan Byer]

I love the thought of. Have you been so fired up? You were stupidly the guy that broke his own stuff.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah.

But let me go back to Luca for a second.

If they win and they're like, the fourth or fifth favorite team to win out of Vegas. Right. I mean, the Lakers are a true contender. They got two of the biggest stars in the league. That's good enough.

If they win the NBA title, does that make up for any sour feelings Luca has? Or do you think there is a part of him that's like, you know, I lost out on a ton of money. They uprooted my life. I had bought a house.

[Steve Covino]

Is. He also shuts up people, like, I don't know people on this channel who say that the bubble victory doesn't count. Like, give me a break. I think it does a Lot. It does. A lot.

[Rich Davis]

I think Luca, to answer your question, Rich, I think Luca's always going to have some, you know, bad feelings towards Dallas. Not towards the city, of course, towards the owner and the GM right now.

But that shit may. That. That might motivate him.

If some girl dumped you, if some girl that you were in love with broke up with you in a, you know, in a weird, odd way, and you went on to fall in love and you met a new girl there, you still will have some odd feelings about how that ended.

Yeah, but I use that as motivation.

And another. Another hit in the Cubs. Have bases loaded with one out.

You know, another one. It's interesting, too, if. If you could go back and do radio in New York, where you guys started, where I'm sure you had a blast, would you love to do it? The reason I bring that up is because it's usually because the people that you work with, and that's what the change with the Mavericks is as I think ultimately Luke is going to realize, you know what? Mark Cuban doesn't own the team anymore. Mark Cuban wasn't running everything. There's different faces in the same places. So it wasn't always going to be the same. So when you look back, I think he'll probably realize that because of Cuban selling the team and handing it over to the people that are making the decisions. And a gm, that. That wasn't there when they drafted him. They traded for him seven years ago in the draft. Like, those things change. So maybe it wouldn't have ended well because these people were there.

[Steve Covino]

It's a great point. You know, out here in la, there was a big radio show that you guys listen to out here. When we were on the east coast. Out here, Kevin and Bean was a big deal, right?

And isn't one of the. Kevin is now back doing afternoons by himself, and I'm wondering if he went back and he's like, this is not the same place.

But it's like what you tell your wife all the time. Rich's wife, Sarah, often misses the fun times. Going to the bar in New York City, hanging out with other friends. It's like, yeah, but none of those people are there anymore hanging out the way they used to.

When my wife left Texas and moved to New York and now la, she'll sometimes be like, I miss getting queso with Loren at the Mexican spot. I miss going to the gym with Lindsey and doing that. She misses some of those things. And I said, babe, all the people you talk about, like yourself, have children, jobs, everything. You. You can't. You're missing something that doesn't exist.

That's really it. So Luca has to move on, because you're right. That really doesn't exist anymore. And I think he uses that as motivation. But I want to make it clear, too. If you haven't seen the clip again, Luca with Malika Andrews. He's clearly emotional or talking about how emotional he was, but he seems to be all smiles and in good spirits. It's not like he's sitting there with any sort of remorse or anything. He's just telling the story, and he's being honest about it. But you could see that he's in good spirits now. So let's make that clear. I think he's ready for the playoffs with the Lakers. I'd love to see them win, but your thoughts? I want to know when you blew a fuse like my dad.

I'm an online poker player. And one night, it wasn't going very.

Good, and I was in. I don't know, 100 bucks, 150 bucks or something like that. I got rivered, and it was like. It was. I got so mad, I threw that thing on the ground, and it busted into, like, 100 pieces. I regretted it a little bit, but not a ton, because it was an old one anyway.

But still, I mean.

And you know what? It's acceptable. I can't say respectable, but it's acceptable. Because when I think of the Luca story and I hear your story again, everybody. No one's immune to this. Everybody has a breaking point, and it's true. And I could see, like, emotions are at their height. I can't imagine how Luca felt. That's. That's blindsided in a major way. It's a matter of if you act like this all the time. You know, that's the problem.

It made me think of this great episode of Family Matters. It's called Driving Carl Crazy, where Carl Winslow has, like, high blood pressure, I think, due to getting angry. So he has this little thing where he's like, 3, 2, 1. 1, 2, 3. What the heck is bothering me? And he eventually, like, loses it. And it's just a great episode of Family Members.

In the top of the 8th, it was Eugenio Suarez hit a grand slam, followed by Lourdes Guriel Jr's three run home run. Arizona looks like they're running away with it, right? It's 11:7 in the top of the eighth inning. They go to the bottom half of the eighth inning. Cubs rally. Kyle Tucker's hit a two run shot. Now Chicago's in the lead. And then this here's a drive in.

Your family could be middle class or struggling and all of a sudden, again, your family's future has been changed forever. Would you want to be there to awkwardly bro hug Roger Goodell, get up on that stage and hold up your jersey, or do you want to spend that time in your living room with like your cousins and friends, just chilling out on the couch?

It's a great question. I think it's more trendy, especially this year, to not go for whatever reason. So he's not on the attendees list again. Jackson, Dar Ole Miss. Do you gotta go? He's projected what, bottom of the first round?

Yeah, it should be an honor. That's my point. And I feel like you're snubbing the honor. I know that's not the intention. The intention here is to spend it with your family. But here's what I have to say to that. I get it. Family's everything. And they got you to this point. Without their support, you'd be nothing. And you want to share that with them. But guess what? How about you go up there and receive this honor and then you celebrate with your family.

You could bring your mom.

How about you could do both. How about you could go up there and do your thing and you could slap Goodell in the ass if you want and put the hat on and show your style and then leave and go party with your family? You know, no one's saying you can't party with your family. So for me, I just feel like you're being lazy about it and you're just choosing not to go.

Nothing, nothing makes me smile more than on draft night when some of these moms who, you know, sacrifice so much for their kids and they see their son get drafted. It's a beautiful moment. And what's even a more beautiful moment is when some of those moms push away the scandalous girl that's hanging with their son. Like, this is not your moment.

And I think you regret it, too. Man, how many people pass on big moments like, I mean, I know he didn't pass on it. But you always hear how Dwight Gooden didn't make the parade, Right? And just you live with that the rest of your life.

For me, this is an honor that I think he'll regret missing out on because he could still party with his family. Don't give me the family stuff. And it's a lame ass. Thing with me personally, I can't really get into other programming or like Black Mirror or White Lotus or whatever show until the sun is down. Anyway, I really can't, I can't focus on a show vampire. I just can't get into that zone or into that mood. It's like sexy time. I can't get into that mood. And the sun's still out.

Wait, you only get on with your girl during the night?

I'm just saying I'm not in that vine. Right. Respectfully. So like, to have that on in the background is perfectly fine. You don't have to be glued to that.

DB I do think that the draft changes and obviously the schedule has changed because for years it was a two day event, Saturday and Sunday and the first, second and third rounds would be on the first day and then they'd have the rest of it. But I do think like the first two days, the Thursday and Friday are really about the players and the teams. And then I feel like, like 4 through 7 are more about names in college that you kind of knew and guys that could be going unique places and different stories. And then looking back on the first three rounds, that's kind of how the coverage ends up going, because it isn't pick for pick. They're not. They're just putting up graphics of people who are picked in the sixth and seventh round at that point. But hey, it's a different vibe.

It's also just great indicator that, hey, before you know it, a new football season will begin. Baseball's in full swing, NBA playoffs in full swing. And it's crazy to think by next week, by Thursday, does Aaron Rodgers have to make a decision? It's my daily. Aaron Rodgers mentioned. Mentioned. Danny, you could hit me later. By next week.

You know what else is fun to piggyback off of what DB was saying on the weekend. You get a lot of former players of the team coming up to read the pick and a lot of them smack talk. So they're going to be Green Bay. Right. So you're going to get a cowboy up there talking smack about how the Cowboys run the world and all that in all the booing and the back and forth. That's fun. I like when the X players mix it up with the crowd. Do you guys remember this moment?

I pointed it out, pointed it out when we filled in for Dan Patrick earlier this week. I would say the NL NFL draft is top three things in our lifetime that have evolved to something completely different. And the top three, and if you think we're missing one top three, if you, if you're a kid of the 80s and 90s, let's say you're roughly 40ish years old in our lifetime. Top three, the NFL draft, which went from a bunch of people in a boardroom with landlines with the, you know, 80s wood paneling, walls and cigars and cigarettes, like, yeah, who are you Taking the first round. Oh, who the Bears taken?

It was like a Little League draft.

Honestly, it looked like the Little League draft where a couple dads get together. It went from that to hundreds.

So top three things that have changed in our lifetime. I'll say. From 1980 until now, the magnitude of the NFL draft number two, mixed martial arts in any type of fighting. It went from like the backyard thing. Like people talked about, oh, like, well, like jujitsu or karate or something.

And then you saw the whole sport evolve. Yeah, it was actually just different styles fighting, different styles. Now it's actually mixed martial arts in the octagon.

That's insane. Yeah, I mean it was oceans of people. We all remember that.

And the Life list, a movie also on Netflix with Sophia Carson I think is worth watching. And my kids are really into Sonic right now. And you can now stream the third one on Pico. So Sonic 3. So that's going to be exciting. And Danny G. I know you got all the times for the NBA games. I think the the one to keep your eye on obviously besides the LA teams. Sunday 6:30 out here on the west side. That's the Warriors Rockets game.
