What would you say you've learned from your experiences with toad venom and all your experiences?

[Don Toliver]

That death is beautiful and death is nothing to be afraid of.

Is that why you're willing to leave it all in the ring?

[Don Toliver]

I don't know. I think that's just my personality. But what I learned from all of this medicine was not to be afraid of death.

You know, that's kind of an interesting statement because a lot of us think about those things right before we're going to sleep.

Right.

Some deeper stuff. If you're not afraid of things like that, Mike, from your experiences, what do you think about before you go to bed? What sort of stuff runs through your mind?

[Don Toliver]

Listen, I don't know. I think about always trying to be the best I could possibly be. The best me that I could be before I go to bed.

[Mike Tyson]

Well, you're a great dad. We know that. You're a great family man. Congrats on your beautiful family. We saw your family on the Netflix special. We saw your daughter is a great tennis player. We saw you there supporting your daughter. Is there any other sport Mike Tyson could have competed in besides boxing?

[Don Toliver]

I don't know. I would like to try tennis.

Well, do you ever.

We all became tennis fans over here.

Are you any good? Have you tried or no?

I tried to hit the ball before it went so far in the air. Oh, man.

No, but you're such a disciplined guy, right? And you could be great at anything you put your mind to. You showed that in boxing. Do you think there's another sport you could have been a professional at if you dedicated yourself to that?

[Don Toliver]

Yeah, I have no idea about that. No, I have no idea.

Just boxing.

All I knew was boxing. Yeah.

Mike, I'm a big Mets fan. And there's a classic picture of you in the 80s with Darryl Strawberry and Doc Gooden and, you know, at the. At the height of what they were doing and what you were doing, what athletes. Now are you intrigued by, like, who are you following in the boxing world, NBA football, there? Are there athletes you keep your eye on?

[Don Toliver]

I'm just. I'm just a guy chilling out. I'm not much of. I don't watch sports much besides tennis. I don't know. I just. Most of the. Most of the guys that play sport, I know, it's athletes. A friend of mine, they don't play anymore.

[Mike Tyson]

So we got to talk about the fight. Mike Tyson's here on the Cavino and Rich Show. What do you have to say to all the critics who say you held back on punches? There was a lot of viral clips. What do you have to say to the critics that brought that up?

[Don Toliver]

Oh, no, I Don't remember the fight that much. I kind of blanked out a little.

[Mike Tyson]

Did you watch it back or anything or.

[Don Toliver]

No, I'm gonna watch the fight. No, I have not.

[Mike Tyson]

Okay, so there was a lot of casual fans. First, I wanna thank you again for bringing people together. It was like the 90s all over again. We got together with friends, we had a great night. It was highly entertaining. But then, of course, clips go viral. A lot of casual fans speculating. There's a few clips where like, you're holding back a right hand punch, in my opinion, as a fan, to not be exposed so that you don't get hit. Is that what was happening in that clip or you don't even know?

[Don Toliver]

I was just listening. Know what I remember?

[Mike Tyson]

No.

[Don Toliver]

Coming back from the first round and then the next day, I remember Jacob doing some kind of. I don't know, what was he doing at the ring?

[Hoda Kotb]

Oh, your little bow at the end.

[Mike Tyson]

Dude. There was a lot of people online that said that's when you should have hit him. When he was bowing down like that.

[Don Toliver]

That'S when he was gonna hit me. That's why I was like, what the hell is he doing?

[Mike Tyson]

So it went that quick for you?

[Hoda Kotb]

Yes, Mike.

[Don Toliver]

I was tired, I wasn't sweaty. I went to the hotel. No, I went to the house that we stayed in. I left the house, me and my wife, my kid. Then we went to the after party, then we came back.

[Mike Tyson]

So for us, right, it was two minute rounds and it felt really quick for us. We're like, dang, we wanted more. Is there anything about the fight you would have changed based on the experience?

[Don Toliver]

Oh, not at all. Listen, I wouldn't have realized any of it if it went three minute round. I didn't realize it.

[Hoda Kotb]

Question. You come down to the ring solo. I can only imagine there were people that wanted to come down to the ring with you. Who wanted to come down to the ring and why did you choose to have no one with you?

[Don Toliver]

Hey, listen, someone just said, mike, is your time to come out. And I just came out. Nobody. I wasn't. That's all.

[Hoda Kotb]

I would assume anyone wanted to come out.

[Mike Tyson]

I would assume there was, there was celebrities, you know, colleagues, you know, friends of yours that wanted to be out there. But you did it. We were rooting for you, man, pulling for you so hard. And I know you often say, we're fans, Mike, you don't care about ego and legacy. But after something like that, do you think it adds to your legacy? How do you think you're Viewed after this fight.

[Don Toliver]

Wow. I never thought about that, you know, but the day after the fight, right after the day after, I woke up, I woke up, I told my wife, why did I do that? I don't know. I just don't know what the hell goes on.

[Mike Tyson]

And what was her response? Like, what was your family's response to everything?

[Don Toliver]

They were just supporting me.

[Hoda Kotb]

I can only imagine. We saw your great relationship with your daughter, like Cavino said on the Netflix specialist. And by the way, Mike, are you brushing your teeth more now or what?

[Don Toliver]

Working on it.

[Mike Tyson]

Well, okay.

[Hoda Kotb]

Okay. I saw the great relationship you had as a dad and daughter. Was it cool for your family to see that the public rallied around you so much all these years later? I feel like everyone I knew was just like, come on, let's go, Mike.

[Mike Tyson]

Everybody.

[Hoda Kotb]

You had the world behind you. Is that a cool feeling to know you still had it and your family to see that?

[Don Toliver]

I'm so happy. Yeah, I am happy. My family saw that. But we don't normally go around and talk about me fighting and stuff. I say I'm a fight, and then, you know, dad's gonna fight, right?

[Mike Tyson]

So that was like, a different side of them, of you. For your.

[Don Toliver]

Like a party for them, like, going up and normally, yeah, Daddy's gonna fight.

[Mike Tyson]

It was a party for everybody, man. Rich and I were buddies in Miami. Rooting you on. Now, there's been a lot of rumors since the fight. Are there any rumors you'd like to clear up, or is there any truth to any of the rumors? Is there anything you want to share with the Fox Sports Radio Nation about what's next?

[Don Toliver]

It was a real fight.

[Hoda Kotb]

Yeah, it was a real fight.

[Mike Tyson]

What did you think of Jake's power, man, when you were in there?

[Don Toliver]

I don't remember it.

[Mike Tyson]

You don't. You didn't even remember it?

[Don Toliver]

I heard my body, but my body was really sore.

It was sore the next day.

Yeah, my body, my chest, my stomach and stuff was really sore.

Well, dude, you were. You were in great shape. You still look great, Mike. Mike Tyson on the Cavino and Rich show. Speaking of rumors, there was a rumor today that one of your buddies that you fought not too long ago, Roy Jones Jr. Said that he wants to maybe test it out with Jake Paul and test Jake Paul's chin. He's 55 years old. Do you think that Roy Jones Jr. Could handle something like that? You were just there.

[Don Toliver]

He's fast enough, though. Yeah, Roy. If Roy's training, Roy could still do a lot of stuff. He Got to be training, though. He has to be training now.

[Mike Tyson]

Mike, Dave punches hard. He does. I know. He's a big dude, man.

Why does it hurt so bad?

[Mike Tyson]

Well, you know, years ago, you talked about the fighting guts, right? You didn't have the fighting guts years ago to continue going on. So what inspired you at 58 to do it finally?

[Don Toliver]

I don't know.

Yeah, the fight, Jake. You know, we were talking. We talked about it for years. Let's just do it just for the.

Fun of it, for the excitement of it and to be part of history.

I mean, and I'm sure, Mike, the payday sort of helped out a little bit too, right? I mean, it's. It was not.

[Don Toliver]

No, no, no. That payday is not going to change my lifestyle at all.

I was gonna say you're living in a beautiful place.

Mike, of all. Of all the pop culture moments you brought us, you know, for guys that earn our age range, the fights you delivered. Mike Tyson's punch out the Hangover. What are you most shocked by that people remember? Is it the cameo in the Hangover? Is it game like? What are you shocked that was as popular as it was with your legacy?

[Don Toliver]

Well, I think it's gonna be the ass now, but the Tyson.

[Mike Tyson]

But yo, Mike, you should come out with an edible Tyson's butt cheeks, right? So that people could eat it.

[Don Toliver]

Oh, I like that one.

You know what? Yeah. Rich will be the first to eat them. Rich probably wants to eat them right now. Rich loves him.

You gotta give me, like a small percentage, Mike. It's my idea. And you know Rich, we talked to Mike years ago. He said he never. Mike, you said you never played the video game. You never played Tyson's punch out ever. That's what you told us years ago, just for commercials.

[Don Toliver]

I wasn't into games back then, ahead of my time.

[Mike Tyson]

Well, I don't know if you're into games now, but my next question was, what does Mike Tyson do to keep himself happy? Obviously, you have a beautiful family. What brings you the most happiness now? You had a lot of fun at that fight. It was fun for everybody.

[Don Toliver]

This is what we were talking about. That fight was such a big ascendant. We were so up and high. We were so excited. The fight's over. Boom. Wow. I'M kind of depressed a little bit. You know, we gotta get back in our living situation, back to living what we know because we fight. We were training for nine months.

[Hoda Kotb]

Mike, I saw on the docu series on Netflix that you were saying, no matter where you go, wherever you go, people want to say hi to Mike Tyson. And you said. Your wife said that if that wasn't the case, you'd hate it. Do you. Do you go anywhere where someone doesn't recognize you?

[Don Toliver]

No, no, my wife said, I probably lose my mind the way they know me.

[Hoda Kotb]

Yeah. It's got to be fun to be Mike Tyson.

[Mike Tyson]

Yeah. What is it like, Mike, do you go grocery shopping on your own? I mean, you're probably the most recognizable guy on the planet.

[Don Toliver]

I do everything on my own. I would run into a store real quick and buy something, come out. Yeah.

[Mike Tyson]

Are you immune to people's reaction, though? Because everywhere you go. Like, I remember this was years ago. I was on West 57th street in New York City, and I saw Muhammad Ali walking down the street. But what I noticed first was everybody standing still, just watching him, like, oh, my goodness, this is Muhammad Ali walking down the street. Do you notice people staring at you? And. Because that's a thrill for anybody wherever.

[Don Toliver]

You are, hey, listen. Yeah, I had to go to the police station to lift my probation officer. No, I was leaving town. All the police were looking at me.

[Mike Tyson]

Like, wow, see, that's got to feel great, man. That's the legacy that we're talking about. That's important to us because we're such fans.

[Hoda Kotb]

Mike, because of Tyson 2.0, I feel like people that smoke weed or enjoy that culture. As Mike lights up right now.

[Mike Tyson]

Yeah.

[Hoda Kotb]

People say, oh, I want to smoke with Snoop Dogg or Willie Nelson. Is Mike Tyson now on that list of celebrities people want to smoke with? Do people come up to you?

[Don Toliver]

I don't think. I'm not too excited. You know, Snoop. Snoop is pretty exciting and animated when he's smoking, so it's good to be around him.

Are you just. Are you just chill? You more like a sink into the couch and get all deep?

[Don Toliver]

No, I'm just a listener. I like to listen.

Who's the coolest guy you smoked with? Your favorite guy you smoked with or woman.

[Don Toliver]

There's nobody cooler than Snoop.

Yeah, that's gotta be an experience. Hey, what would have happened? We were at your ranch one time, right? And you were smoking out at your ranch. We were just so happy to be there, just taking it all in. But there was a part of us that sort of wanted to join in a little circle, just to say we smoked with you. Would that have been overstepping if we jumped in?

[Don Toliver]

That's what you did for. You did a smoke.

Listen, this is something that's funny. My wife got me into this stuff.

Not necessarily the deep conversation, but it's explaining to somebody that what's your existence, who you are, you know?

Of that, we can't overlook those guys. Those guys are tough guys. They just fought different errors.

Yeah. Do you have a favorite of all those young guys? You keep your ear to that or just heavyweights?

[Don Toliver]

No, they're all sensational too. I think Ryan and Devin should fight again.

If there's a good fight and you're interested, how do you party? Do you invite people over your house? Do you?

I try to go to the fight if possible, but we not going to the fight. People would just come over the house. I go over someone's house.

Mike, I've seen you at fights where when they put you on the big screen, you get the biggest applause of all. Does that make you feel good? Because it's got to, right? They go around the crowd. When they go to Mike Tyson, the crowd goes nuts. Is that, is that the respect you feel you've earned over the years?

Hey, I'm just very grateful, that's all. I'm becoming familiar with the act of gratitude.

You know, we were talking about other fights. You got Fury, Usyk coming up at the end of the month, the rematch, Fury, USYK 2. Any thoughts on that? Because I know you have connections with Tyson Fury.

I know, but Tyson Fury could have won that fight. He wasn't playing around early in the fight.

So do you think he's got the second one?

Because he could throw you for like a curveball. Did you ever see that interview with like a 14 year old girl? And she's like, mike. And she asks him about legacy. He's like, legacy? What is legacy? You die and that's it. What is legacy?

What is legacy?

Yeah.

And she's like, well, that's an interesting answer. My little girl, she's like, mike, I'm a child.

Nothing. Yeah, it means nothing. We're nothing. We're nothing.

It was so refreshing because usually when as. And I'm saying this, listen, I know I'm the.001%. Nobody else is a reporter. But not only when they do those young interviews, the athlete or the manager, the coach is always like, really good question. And then sometimes they'll say, like, I wish we had more of those around here. And you know, it's such a softball that they throw.

You got a future, kid. Yeah, yeah.

Maybe take some of these, you know, clown's job. And he just went right in. It was great.

As week 14 of the NFL wraps up this week, observation number one. Of course I will be self serving and I'll talk about how my Niners win was in vain because the Seahawks. Damn. Buyer. Congrats to your Seahawks. By the Seahawks winning. They stay a couple games ahead in the division and the Rams beating the Bills. Everything the Niners win, they beat the Bears, which is what they needed to do. But the other layers of how they were supposed to stay in this, none of them turned out nice for me.

[Justin Jefferson]

There's still a path for you. It's just that a lot of stuff, you have to kind of go perfect the rest of the way.

[Hoda Kotb]

I believe 49ers would probably need to go perfect. If they lose to the Lions and go for three and one now, they'd, they'd very much need every other team in that division to poop the bed. Really. Honestly, it's, it's, it's to that level. So my observation was the Rams showed up. Who would have thought that? I mean, we all thought, oh, Buffalo would come into LA and just, you know, even if Matthew Stafford and that team put up an effort, you know, they're well coached. McVeigh always comes to play. But yo, they we're talking about, they put up a 40 plus spot and with and they, they withheld a late surge by Josh Allen and kept it in bed.

[Mike Tyson]

Josh Allen still played big, but guys like Puka Nakua stepped up for the Rams. That was fun to see what stood out to me and I believe it was Ben Mallor that said he said something a little off color. Danny G, do you want to say what he said about Patrick Mahomes and Horseshoe? I'm sorry, what? Like, it's incredible the luck that Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have had.

[Justin Jefferson]

I'll put Z's on it instead of an S. He says that Patrick Mahomes has a lucky horseshoe stuck up his ass.

[Mike Tyson]

He must, he must for them to pull out that win with the doink. Doink in. That's insane, man. 1917, they're 12 and one now.

It's the perfect example. It is the quintessential, like it's the defining win. Defining win because it shows that the Chiefs always find a way to win. They're not blowing anyone out yet. They're 12. 1.

No really defined like how close every game has been and how, how, how they've barely won almost every game this season. Example.

Their side, but, you know, teams need that. All championship teams need. They need big moments. But he also need a lot of luck. It seems like Mahomes just has that flair. The Chiefs have that luck.

I hate to say it because much like everyone, unless you're a Chiefs fan, you want to see Buffalo or, you know, some other team emerged, the Lions or the Vikings or someone that hasn't been there if your team's not in it. But I don't think this is, you know, every year we're like where they're the worst. 11 one or 12. One team. I don't think he could say that because while they are just winning games by a small margin, they're finding ways to win. It's not accidental. I don't think that. I think that they know how to win.

[Mike Tyson]

Yeah, I agree with you.

[Hoda Kotb]

This is not a like, oh man, they had a soft schedule and they're, you know, 10 and 2 or something. This is a team that finds a way to win. And that's, that's a characteristic. I don't think that's like, wow, they're lucky.

No, I agree. They know how to. They know how to win. Simple as that.

It could have been from The Navarrete fight, UFC, fight night, whatever you were watching. Maybe it was Moana 2, whatever you did this weekend. Maybe it was that Lindsay Lohan Christmas movie.

She. I thought she looked good. She made me say so whatever it was that made you say, hmm, give us a call. 877-99-ON FOX. When you were watching Baker Mayfield against your Raiders, Danny G. Is there a part of you that's like, that has to slow clap for the guy? Like, he's a bonafide NFL quarterback. He just plays the game so well. Even when they're losing, he's still competing and the team plays hard for him. When, when you think like maybe a year or two ago, two years ago, people like counting him out.

[Justin Jefferson]

Yeah. And the Raiders defense started out flat in that game. And then you saw him step it up in the second quarter especially and picked him off. And he had a couple, he had like three bad drives in a row and he was able to rise above it all in the fourth quarter. So he does what Jameis Winston can't do at the end of games. He had can't overcome turnovers. But, you know, Mayfield can.

[Mike Tyson]

Exactly. He had two interceptions, three touchdowns, but two for 295 yards against Danny G's Raiders. When I was watching that game, I just couldn't help but think, man, everybody was counting them out like two years ago. And look at this dude. Like he's, it's like everybody forgot that narrative and everyone's focused on, oh, Baker Mayfield's doing Baker Mayfield things well.

[Hoda Kotb]

And you know, with the Falcons looking like they're their wings got clipped, that team's in a free fall. And Baker and the Bucks are right.

[Mike Tyson]

There is the epitome of everything that Sam Darnold's getting credit for this year.

[Hoda Kotb]

Like, Danny isn't there, isn't there a sentiment from watching him against your Raiders that like, they're a good team, they're not elite. But in that terrible division, it looks like they'll come out of that again. And for a while we thought it was definitely going to be Kirk Cousins and The Falcons.

[Justin Jefferson]

Yeah. And I mean injuries might be a little bit of a problem. They're young star running back Irving went out of the game. Hurts. You got to keep your eye on that. He was a big part of their offense so far this season.

[Hoda Kotb]

There's one other thing I want to bring up now. We'll take all your phone calls and feedback. Things that made you go week 14. Did you see one of the largest bets was made in NFL history. Eagles game. This is the greatest story.

Like if, you know, especially if bigger fish are on the horizon for teams, they overlook some of these games.

The other part of this is, as a Seahawks fan, I am fully aware because of the success of a team like Minnesota or even Green Bay, the first round matchup that you get isn't ideal. Like, who wants to face Green Bay or Minnesota in the first round of the playoffs? Even if you win that division, that wouldn't be. You wanted a bad wild card team or maybe a team that was limping in. And that's not necessarily the case. And Even if the 49ers do get in, they're likely to face one of the really tough teams.
