Just for the record, east coast and Midwest because the weather's so cold that a lot of teams have moved the night games to afternoon games. That's why you're a little thrown off.

Cool. I just can't believe the Yankees lost. That's how delusional I am. There's no way they lost today. So. Wow, man. Misheard Dan. What a way to start the day.

And what a way to tie the game. Mets to Marlins, 2. Pete Alonzo, a bloop along the first baseline. Here's my question for you. As we think about last night, Florida, Houston, you couldn't ask for a closer game, right? I mean, the losing team had the possession of the. Of the basketball with, you know, 10, 20 seconds left. They had a chance to tie. And our buddy Michael. Yo, who lives in Vegas, very funny comedian, one of our old school pals, he said, you know, you guys should discuss for at least a minute what's worse when you lose by missing the game. Tying or winning shot or not even getting the ball off.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Not getting the ball off. That was the.

[Steve Covino]

Is that, like, even. Is that more disappointing?

[Dan Byer]

Yeah, it's way more disappointing. So this seven, just over 17 seconds to get down the court and get a shot off. There's no excuse for that.

Even with tight defense, you got to get the ball out of your hands.

Here's why. I know that has to be the answer, because I had to watch it again to fully grasp, like, what just happened there. I'm like, all right. I got to say, I couldn't believe what I had just seen. I'm like, he didn't even get the shot off. That's Les Miserables.

To prevent the double dribble. You saw at the very end, he, like, tried to box people out like someone else.

He had to let the ball bounce and take his hands off.

Yeah, but that was really weak. The weakest way, in my opinion, you could lose. Yeah, you want to at least get the shot off, but, man, couldn't even get it off.

You know what it's like?

It's props get to Florida.

It's like at the end of an NFL game. And I get it, not every game's going to end on a Hail Mary, but I always found it weak ass. When an NFL team had, like one play left and the quarterback took a sack or a guy caught a ball over the middle and didn't even try to do a lateral. And he just sort of like went down. It's like, come on, get. At least create the illusion that you're trying.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Give me some desperation shot again. That's why it's called the Hail Mary. Give me something. Throw it up. Don't do what you did there. That was horrible. And that's hard to live with. You ask him how he feels about it today.

[Iowa Sam]

It was both a chaotic ending and anti climactic ending at the same time.

[Steve Covino]

Yeah, look, the play's on right now, and it's just.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Yeah, you're like, what? You didn't even get it off. Oh, that's a hard one to swallow right there. Ah. And he knew, you know, to box him out the minute he jumped up.

And he realized, if I shoot this, maybe he should have held on and hope for a foul. I mean, hindsight's 20 20, but if he holds that bulk of, you know, that defender's coming in hard, maybe you get a foul call. You just got to feel bad for Houston because how often does a team like Houston get this opportunity?

[Julie Swearbinks]

That was their window.

[Steve Covino]

And now who knows when you're going to get back? The NCAA is tough. March Madness. Not easy to get back unless you're like UConn women's basketball. It could be another decade or so before they ever in the Final Four.

[Iowa Sam]

Yukon's been there.

They've. They.

I'm sorry, Houston's been there, competing. They went to the final Fours, Kelvin Sampson's first Final Four at them in 20, 21. So, like, I think they'll be in the mix. But yeah, to get to the title game, and you already slayed.

I'm saying you're in the title game. Down by two with the ball. Like, you know, you hit a clutch shot, you're national champion. You hit a shot, you tie the game. It's going to be tough to live with.

[Dan Byer]

That was Sharp, by the way. Who was forced to drop the ball? Clayton Rose up to block his shot.

Yeah, he had a couple blunders down the. Down the stretch there.

I feel bad for him. I feel bad for Kelvin Sampson. When they zoomed in on Sampson's face at the end, he's just staring into the distance.

I want to talk to Samson. It just, like, happened, and he's just watching and he just, like, staring, and you're like, I just feel terrible for the guy.

That's what I'm saying. So to answer Michael Yo's question, it's a great question, too. What's up, Michael? Yo, famous comedian and broadcaster listening to our show. If he, if Sharp just threw up the shot and he missed, ah, you know, it happens, right? He had one last shot. Not going to throw away your shot. He threw away that shot, that one shot. And that's the hardest pill to swallow. Like, everybody has that one girl, that one guy that got away, like, ah.

It was a tough play because with that, that big arm and hand right.

At his shoot, do you try to take the foul? I mean, hindsight 20 20, in his.

[Dan Byer]

Mind, his shot was going to get blocked.

R about stocks that he should have bought, should have, would have, could have investments. You should have bought in all that property. I should have bought it when it was available. This dude is going to forever, ever, ever. Remember not getting that shot off forever. Not getting the shot off is way worse. Not taking that shot is way worse than shooting it and actually missing forever. Forever, forever, forever.

Yeah.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Because there's always the comfort in knowing that you took that shot and that I'm using that as a metaphor in life. Right. Hey, better to know that you tried and failed than not getting off the shot. Yeah. That's horrible, man.

[Steve Covino]

You know, I give the analogy. When they don't even get off the Hail Mary or don't even get off the play in the NFL or college football, I feel like a guy like Carlos Beltran. Carlos Beltran, it's got to haunt him, you know, borderline hall of Fame career. As Francisco Lindor said yesterday, I got a lot of work to do if Beltran's not in the hall of Fame. Carlos Beltran, an amazing career. One of the best defensive center fielders, clutch player. He carried the Astros, remember, in that postseason, like, dominant, like a great player.

[Julie Swearbinks]

I still think his greatest highlight is when he painted his head.

[Steve Covino]

I mean, that is.

[Julie Swearbinks]

That's the one I picture.

[Steve Covino]

He has a black painted head.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Everybody has a black painted head.

I believe he was on the Rangers at the time. Right. But I mean, Carlos Beltran, I know we're going back almost 20 years, but I know it was the sickest curl curveball, some would say, in postseason history. But when he just watched Adam Wainwright's curveball, strike three, Cardinals end up going to the World Series.

[Julie Swearbinks]

That was your shot.

[Steve Covino]

I mean, you don't think Beltran's like, oh, man, I looked at strike three in game seven. You looked at it.

[Julie Swearbinks]

I mean, think about it this way, Rich. Let's say you had a million dollar shot. Do you want to at least take the shot or not. Get it off.

[Steve Covino]

Ugh.

[Julie Swearbinks]

I'd rather take that shot and miss than wonder. So it is a better to have.

[Iowa Sam]

Loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

[Julie Swearbinks]

I want you guys think about something else, all right? I'm going to pose a question, and I want you to think about it. Who or what? Who or what? Because maybe it's a group of people who. Who or what is better when they're fat? Because there's a trend going on, and Edelman and Gronky are not okay with it. So before we get into cockiness and confidence, we never got to that yesterday. Before we give away prizes and play last one standing here on the show, we got to talk about who or what is better when fat. And it's.

It's terrible because fat also means you're saying, I like you better. Unhealthy.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Right, Right. Of course. You got to point that out, too. Right. There's some health benefits involved in this conversation, so we do it respectfully. But this is all based on Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman bantering about today's NFL coaches.

[Rich Davis]

You want to know what's a disappointment here?

[Steve Covino]

Is that these coaches are starting to get in shape now, man. They're looking like they've been working out with the players, throwing some routes, going for jogs. Like, there's a lot of positional coaches that are still looking like coaches, but these guys right now are looking slim, looking jacked, looking like they go for a run, actually looking like they go and lift some weights. But we need coaches to get fat again.

[Rich Davis]

Remember, we wanted Dola to get fat.

[Steve Covino]

When he was coaching with the Los Angeles Raiders. That's a true. Typical coach is when they're fat and overweight, that means you're the best out there. So I think the problem is, is that Ozempic came out. They gotta start Testing. It should be on the PED list for these coaches. We need them fat again.

[Rich Davis]

It makes football.

[Steve Covino]

Is he saying make coaches fatigue?

[Julie Swearbinks]

Yes, he's saying make coaches fatigue. And he's saying Ozempic is changing the game. And it is not only in sports or coaches, but in Hollywood and real life.

We see it all over the place. I don't know if coaches are on it. I don't know that. But I do know that he's onto something. When you think of these younger guys, the Sean McVeighs of the world, they're young and in shape and the time of the Andy Reid type of coach is sort of going away and Gronk is saying, yo, that's not how it should be. I get more respect for the fat guy coach. And it's kind of funny when you hear them talk about it. So it makes you think if coaches are better fat. And that's how I do picture coaches. Like old coaches, just like old fat guys. But they're not anymore.

You're just picturing Andy Reid.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Yeah, but I just, you know, like parcel and dudes like that.

Like John Madden later on, bigger guy.

But you know, the guy that runs this place, Mike.

There's an actor that to me was better fat and I'm sure healthier now and good for him, but John Goodman.

Oh, no, that's not where I was thinking.

He's feeling good. He's feeling something. But I think of King Ralph. John Goodman. I'm thinking Roseanne, John Goodman. Now, John Goodman's like a slender fellow.

So again, that's why we say respectfully. We understand he's healthier and good for him. We're happy for him. But I'm with Rich. When I picture John Goodman, I picture, like, Babe Ruth. Babe. Fat Jon.

There's a list of comedians and comedians who have lost some of their funny once they got thin, like Jonah Hill. I was thinking of a few yesterday when we were talking about this.

That has to be the number one. What in genre of people like comedians often associated with being funnier when fat and when they lose weight.

[Dan Byer]

Gaffigan has been joking about it because he shared his weight loss journey recently.

[Julie Swearbinks]

That's right. But my answer, the first one that comes to me is like a Drew Carey, right? Like, he was no longer funny.

[Dan Byer]

Some would say he was never funny.

[Steve Covino]

I don't know.

[Julie Swearbinks]

I thought he was a funny dude. But, like, as the host of Price Is Right, he just like, ah, he's just the host now. He's nothing really funny about the guy anymore.

And not again and again.

Who or what is sort of better fat? Because there is a trend in the NFL, according to Gronk and I mean according to us, Gronk and Edelman. They say coaches today are not the coaches of yesteryear. Coaches of yesteryear were sort of sloppy and overweight coaches today, slim and trim and fit, their polo tucked in real nice.

Well, you know, Robert Sala, comedian, jacked.

Robert Sala looks like a guy that would be.

He looks like a fitness instructor.

Robert Salah looks like the instructor that's trying to sleep with your wife, like at the gym. Like, hey, what's up? Robert Sala, great example of a ripped coach. Now, I was thinking, like comedians and hosts and stuff. It's there, there is something to be said about comedian Matt Rife, who's like the young handsome dude.

Yeah, it's.

He breaks the mold and it's almost tough in a way to be the. I guess you would say, like, young, handsome comedian like him goes, yeah, you.

Can'T be too good looking. No one thinks you're funny. And you can't act like you're the smartest guy either. You can't be too smart because then you're talking down to people and no one likes that either.

Like, I'm sure. How would we receive it if Fluffy Gabe Iglesias, what if he just got all trim? His whole character is like, I'm Fluffy.

[Julie Swearbinks]

See? But I think it's on the. It's really on the audience. Is he any less funny? I don't know. It's a weird thing. Are these coaches any less good?

[Steve Covino]

Yeah, but you remember, like, comedian John Panett, his whole bit was based on like, you've been here four hours. He was at the buffet and like, a lot of his jokes relied on.

[Dan Byer]

Like, I'm a fat, gotta find a new act. Like a new.

You can't call him fluffy if he's not fluffy. Right?

[Steve Covino]

Like, you know what? I know what always bothers me when a hot female comedian talks about, like, the woes of dating. I'm like, stop it. You could date anyone. Stop.

So again, just the question of thought based on Gronk and Edelman's conversation. It was kind of a funny one because you do see the difference. You do see the expectation of what a coach used to be and what a coach is now, or what the trend seems to be. These guys are younger and more fit than coaches previously.

[Steve Covino]

Well, you know what, Camino to be to, to make a point here, let's also keep in mind that. But you can't hate on someone because people are trying to better themselves. And that's, and that's, that's the bummer, right? It's like you. A lot of times, actors, musicians, athletes, coaches, they'll, they'll trim up and instead of people being like, oh, congratulations for all the hard work you did, you know, people say I missed the fat. You. You don't think that messes with them a little bit?

Absolutely. Yeah. It's not, it's not fair. So that's why I'm saying it's probably on us and our expectations as the viewer or the audience.

That's not me or Kavino. Blame Gronk and Edelman.

You may have a, A personal story, like, yeah, my buddy, you know, Yeah, I liked him, but, yeah. And now he's, he's all thin and full of himself. They're saying.

No, because they're saying Ozempic is changing the dynamic of friendships all over the world because that person is no longer the, the person that they once were. So they're not even acting like that person.

I had a college buddy who's a bigger dude, but he leaned into it like his whole Persona in college was, yo, I could eat more wings than anyone. I could guzzle beer.

Fat Larry, he wore a big Hawaiian.

T shirt, you know, and what happens. That guy, he did that guy. When he slims up, he almost has to adjust his, I guess you would.

You have to adjust. Like, it's a good adjustment for your health. But if you're the guy that everyone's like, you know, Larry, Larry, and you're the guy that's ripping off your, you know, you're shaking your belly like your chunk from Goonies and you're doing cake stands and eating, you know, 50 wings, and everyone's like, man, Fat Larry. If Fat Larry's like, yeah, guys, I'm gonna get to salmon with rice, and I'm really trimming down and I'm a different guy now, now that's an adjustment because people are like, come on, Fat Larry. So, Gronk Edelman, very funny clip. Do coaches need to be fat? We're looking at the NFL now. There's more ripped coaches than ever because people care about health and fitness.

The end in our stupid brains. What are some other things that are better when they're bigger? Right? When they're fat? I got a few answers. Let me know if you agree. Spot said Horatio Sands said he was funnier when he was bigger. Okay, but I have people, okay? Not necessarily a person. Okay, how about home plate umpires?

Wait, can I actually comment on. So there's a bit of an optical illusion going on, though, because both the umpire behind home plate and the catcher wear a guard, and so it makes them look bigger than they are. But I always look at bellies as.

That was incredible.

That show itself, Love on a Spectrum is incredible. Shout out to Connor and Tanner, but yeah, Dana Orlovsky, son. That was beautiful. I Shed one vato tear. You know, I don't have many of them.

Yeah, dude, I don't know if, you know, vatos have 96 teardrops they could use in their life. Right?

That's true. And I used one for Orlovsky. So everything I say is, you know, respectfully. He says we can't praise Baker Mayfield and fall in love with Baker Mayfield because of his riz. He didn't say that, but he said because of his charisma, cockiness, and his self belief and then kind of view it different with Shador. So that's Dan Orlovsky on the criticisms of Shador Sanders. Now, do I understand what he's saying? Do we understand what he's saying? Absolutely. I get it, right? What's. What's good for the goose should be good for the gander or whatever. We got to treat these things equally. However, I want to remind everybody, I don't think we all love Baker Mayfield in the beginning.

[Steve Covino]

That is 100% accurate, right?

We gave Baker Mayfield so much flack about his dance moves and his cockiness and his commercials and his dedication to football. Like, we gave that dude so much. He just played his heart out so hard and proved us all wrong, and he kind of won us over, I think. So I think the same should apply for Shador. If that's how. Or if that's how you view Shador, then in the same way, then, yeah, he's gonna. Or he should win you over eventually with his dedication to the game and his toughness.

[Steve Covino]

I think that's the one hole in the Dan Orlowski analysis of Shador. And, Baker, you're a hundo percento writer.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Thank you. Yeah, I love Orlovsky.

I'm just saying I don't agree with that because I root for Mayfield now, but I remember not liking the guy. No.

There were times where Covino would come on the show and be like. Like, look at him doing his stupid dance. He hasn't proven anything. We grew to love Baker because his cockiness was checked a little bit.

[Julie Swearbinks]

His cockiness went into confidence.

No, but it was. And it was humbled, right?

Humility.

It was, as your mom hates. When you say humbleness, I say humbleness.

My mom says it's humility, you idiot.

His humility is what made you love Baker Mayfield. When he saw some tough times and you're like, all right, this cocky kid got checked a little bit, and he came out on the other side humble. With his humbleness, it's Humility. And I think that's why we love Baker. I've always thought there was a big difference between cocky and confident, and I think this applies very much to the dating world. Because, listen, let's be honest. It's all the same, right? The workplace, dating, sports, it's all just personality traits and relationships.

Yeah.

[Steve Covino]

When you're dating, when you're a single man and you're in the dating scene or a single lady. What's up, Beyonce? I always thought the difference between confidence and cocky was the ability to laugh at yourself and not take yourself serious. You could be a guy that's like, man, that guy's pretty cocky. But if he is always okay to be the butt of the joke, he makes fun of himself. He doesn't take himself serious.

[Julie Swearbinks]

He does it with a smile.

[Steve Covino]

Does it with a smile. He could be cocky, but people are like, nah, he's. It's. It's a confidence. Cocky is when someone is so sure of themselves, but my goodness, don't you dare question them, because, like, they. They don't like the joke ever. At their expense.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Cockiness borders on arrogance. Right. And what is the eliminator of that? Like I said, I think Rich just said it, like, doing it with a smile and just the true belief in yourself. That's confidence. We work with people.

[Steve Covino]

I'm not gonna say here or there or when, but there's people that get in their own way because I'm like, yo, they're cocky. Like, they.

[Julie Swearbinks]

And that rubs everybody the wrong.

We need some names right here, guys.

Yeah. No, no. But there is. There's a fine line. Like, I. I'll use myself as an example just to keep other people out of the conversation. Oh, I know. Cocky. I feel. Yes. I feel like that's the vibe that I might give off until you really get to know me. And you're like, oh, yeah, this guy doesn't take himself that seriously. He does it with a smile. I could see I have resting D face, and people would assume that about me.

Yeah, but I.

I. Is one of those guys you could look at, be like, he's cocky. But then you realize the fact that Covino can make fun of himself and, you know, takes a joke.

Oh, he's not cocky. He's. It's funny. So your thoughts? The difference between confidence and cockiness in sports?

[Julie Swearbinks]

Baker Mayfield sort of earned everybody's respect. He graduated from cockiness to confidence. Because when I Think about the difference yet.

Yeah.

Confidence comes with a smile. Confidence also comes with. You're backed by results. Mayfield proved to everybody that he was a bonafide NFL player and he could ball.

[Steve Covino]

But not only that, he was. I think he bumped into the iron cheek.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Yeah.

[Steve Covino]

Because he was humbled.

[Julie Swearbinks]

He was, you know. And I know what you mean by that too rich. And there's so many personal examples. You could sort of tie in if you want. I remember my uncle telling me, me, I was heartbroken, dude. Heartbroken over a girl one time. And then I think I got like fired from a job or whatever, but I was heartbroken over a girl.

[Steve Covino]

Oh, that was Steve's no good, very bad day.

[Julie Swearbinks]

It was Steve Covino's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Right.

Fired and dumped.

[Julie Swearbinks]

And I remember like, why?

Oh, and you pets, headphones.

She was the best thing that happened in my whole life. And I remember my uncle saying to me, I went to my uncle for advice. What should I do? How do I get her back? And he's like, wanna know something? Let me be honest with you. He's like, I like you better this way. I'm like, why? He's like, cuz you're humble now. You've been humbled for the first time. Because you know what? I thought nothing could stop this guy. I was arrogant and I was cocky and I was backed by nothing and no results. It was just in my own head and my own belief. So that's the difference between cockiness and confidence. The humility, again, the results. Yeah, Shadur Sanders is great, but he still has a lot to prove and that's fine. I'm sure he will. But I think we need to remember that we didn't all love Baker Mayfield. No, he came after all the humility, the humbleness, and again proving that he could play in the NFL. Not saying that I'm not rooting for Shador. I'm a big Deion Sanders fan. Absolutely rooting for the kid. But as Orlovsky said again today. Now here's the update. He might be one of the hardest QBs that he ever had to rate.

[Steve Covino]

And I understand that. Based on quarterback to evaluate. Based on his assessment. And it's because the offensive line stunk. So.

[Julie Swearbinks]

But he's saying he has elite field vision and everything else.

[Dan Byer]

And also a lot of his throws.

[Steve Covino]

Five yards.

Yeah. Right off the line of scrimmage.

[Steve Covino]

Because with a bad old line, this guy was making quick decisions. You don't really have a lot of looks at Shador, but to Wrap up. What you're saying about Baker. Baker was. Was tested, and we saw Baker fail a little bit and fall. And like you getting dumped and losing your job. Old Steve Kavita. Yeah, you were. You were humbled. Humility kicks in. And I think we got to see Baker, you know, laying on his back.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Humanizes you. Humanizes you. People relate to you more. And I think we don't view Baker Mayfield that way anymore because of all that. So that's the difference. And like you said, Rich before, confidence comes with a smile. Cockiness. You're just tooting your own horn the whole time. You haven't really proven it. And there's.

[Steve Covino]

There's hosts like that here on our network. Espn, cbs, Fox. Anyway, you name it. There's people that you look at and go, why are you taking yourself so serious? Like, the. The ability to laugh at yourself. I always say that when it comes to dating as well. What makes a guy cocky or confident with women? A confident guy is sure of himself, but he's also okay being vulnerable in front of the woman, acting silly, you know, being the butt of the joke. If he does something, you know, goofy, that's confidence. A cocky guy is a guy that if someone even chuckles or laughs at him, he's like, what are you laughing at me for?

[Dan Byer]

Like, it's just really. Insecurity is what it boils down to.

[Steve Covino]

It's insecurity, and it's put offish. And I think that again.

[Julie Swearbinks]

And there's a fine line of arrogance, too. Right? So, yeah, there's the difference between cockiness and confidence. It's a thin line, but there's a significant line there.

[Steve Covino]

And I'm not wishing this for him, but let's say Shador goes to the NFL, right?

[Julie Swearbinks]

Yeah, dude. We wish nothing but this greatest success for him.

And he follows a Baker blueprint in that. Let's say. Let's say he ends up. I'm just picking the Giants. I know they seem stacked in the QB room right now, but let's say he did go there, and he had a really rough go at it, and the media was rough on him, and I was like, man, chador stinks. And then he got a chance on a second team, and he lit it up. We'd all be like, there he is.

Like, also think about his dad, right? His dad had. His dad might be the cockiest guy that ever wore.

[Steve Covino]

Sure. His dad, during the draft, told teams, I'm not going to look at your playbook. When's your draft pick? I'm not going to remember I'm all begun by that dude.

[Julie Swearbinks]

I remember watching the Yankees when a young Deion Sanders. Neon Deion Sanders, before he was prime time Deion Sanders. Neon Deion would get in the batter's box and draw a dollar sign in the batter's box. And he was the most flashy dude with Jerry Curl. Right. But again, he eventually backed that up with results. When you realize, like, oh, you know, he's not necessarily cocky. He's confident, and he proves it. You know, his son is cut from the same cloth. Will he prove it? Absolutely, I think he will, but I think that's the difference. That's the difference.

To me, confidence is unspoken. It doesn't need to be explained. Like, you don't tell people, oh, I'm confident.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Yeah.

The results, very similar to when you see very wealthy people, like these billionaires. Like, remember there was a joke. I know we all hate him now, but, like, where we saw Elon Musk's kitchen and it was like that old, dated 90s wood.

Yes.

Or like how sometimes you see, like, the CEO of Apple and he's out and he's just wearing, like, polos and, you know, khakis and a polo. And, like, they're not flashy at all because they don't have to be.

[Julie Swearbinks]

You don't have to prove, because they.

Know underneath they're sitting on near a trillion dollars. Similar with confidence and cockiness. Like, you don't need to say, I'm confident. You don't need to prove you're confident. You don't need to act confident. You just are confident.

And you know what? People pick up on that, though. That's the thing. And I think that's what cocky people don't understand is everyone else sees it. But, dude, you're full of hot air.

[Steve Covino]

I do want to point out that we can't discount what a cool characteristic it is for a Shador Sanders to be so confident. Yeah. Because borderline cocky. Where in every stage of he said that wherever I go, I will change the culture. Some people look at that and say, who do you think you are? Are? And then other people are like, I am other people. Like, you know, it's hard not to almost admire that level of confidence.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Dude. You know what, though?

[Steve Covino]

He's saying, wherever I go, I will bring a winning culture. And he's a 20. He's a kid.

[Julie Swearbinks]

And if he does that, then he's proven and he's awesome, and we root him on moving forward. So again, why aren't we treating Shador Sanders Confidence. The same way we treated Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield was hated on the beginning.

[Steve Covino]

Yeah. I think I'm actually very curious where.

[Julie Swearbinks]

This guy, by the way, I'm not even saying me. That's sort of. Sort of the perception. I would say if you follow social media or what people are saying on TV or what you sort of get from him, it's. He's hard to evaluate because he does have an insane level of cockiness or confidence, however you want to look at it.

[Dan Byer]

Yeah. And it's hard to tell with these teams what's real, what's a smokescreen, what they're lying about, who they're really looking at. And DB reported earlier that he's going to take a meeting with the Steelers for one of their top 30 meetings. Now, they pick 21. So if he slides all the way down to 21, does that humble you or does that put a fire under you and you're like one of the two quarterbacks we know so well who said all those other teams made a mistake. I'm going to show them.

You know, I do love that thought. Like, you know, it could light a fire. But let me ask you this. Do you remember it was on the primetime 30 for 30. Maybe you, Dan Byer, I were. Sam Will remember Deion Sanders told the team when he was. When, you know, primetime was getting drafted, a team almost offered the playbook. And he's like, when's your draft pick? And he declined because he's like, nah, I'll keep your playbook. I. I won't be on the board by then. And I remember people at that time were like, how cocky could you be? And, you know, let's be honest. If you're Deion Sanders and It's, you know, 30 years ago, you think you're going to.

If you got a late round pick, you think you're going to. Dion's still going to be on the board. I love that. I love that cockiness.

We. We were saying how more so than ever. It's like the difference between the three seed and the six seed. And like, there's a lot of. There's a lot of seeding still yet to be done. And it's proven by the fact that there's a chart. Danny showed us that 19 of the 20 seeds aren't even locked in yet, other than OKC at number one. Every other seed from 1 to 10 in the Western Conference and 1 to 10 in the Eastern Conference. Of those, 19 of the 20 have not been clinched in an order yet, meaning depending on how the team's doing the final games of the season, because they're all within one or two games. It's wild.

[Dan Byer]

Yeah. If the Cavs beat the Bulls tonight, then they'll lock in the number one seed for the East.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Okay.

[Dan Byer]

But as of right now, as we're spe live on national radio, there are so many seeds still sitting there. Where we don't know what team is going to be where. And there's only a couple of games separating so many teams, especially in the West. Two games separate six teams right now. Yeah.

That's Insane.

And that will affect home court. That'll affect who you play. Like there's going to be people maybe positioning, like, oh, maybe we don't want to play that team first. So much at stake in the final week and then starting a week from today, I believe is the playing game where we, you know, see 7, 8, 9, 10 go at it. So NBA playoffs, we always talk about, ah, it just turns up a notch. So that's one week from today. We get the NBA.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Is that why the Nuggets fired the coach or what? And then you heard it so tight. If they're fourth in the West 47 and 32 and they won last year two seasons ago. Two. I'm sorry, two seasons ago. Now two seasons ago.

[Steve Covino]

I'm swine. Stevie.

[Julie Swearbinks]

It's still proven though. It's kind of shaky and kind of interesting to think that they fired their coach and GM today. 47 and 32, however, they lost four in a row. The Nuggets lost four in a row and they're three and seven in their last 10. Is that really the reason why you're.

[Dan Byer]

A championship winning coach? You know, it's just two years ago. So you think this is, this has to be more than just a four game losing streak. This has, this is something that went wrong in the locker room. The leadership of the team from the top down to the locker room. There's something going on here that we're not hearing about.

[Julie Swearbinks]

That's really it. What's stirring the Kool Aid here? The fact that they're three and seven in their last ten and lost four in a row? Or is there something else bigger going on behind the scenes?

[Steve Covino]

You know, there's something bigger and you got to connect the dots on that. And by the way, Celtics fans very upset. You forgot that one last year. Well, you just forgot the Celtics. He was like pretty forgettable.

[Julie Swearbinks]

Danny G. Pounced on me.

No, but I was thinking like that was, remember it was, it was, it was Celtics beating.

How could you forget Jason Tatum celebration?

It was kind of forget. It was all emotional.

But remember Tatum and you know, we wanted Dallas to put up a better fight. The Mavericks sort of got shut down pretty easy. But yeah, Celtics don't think we disrespected you. I'll compare it to relationships because that's sort of what we do here on Kavino and Rich. And I think we've all seen this with ourselves a friend or family member. You could be dating someone. And it's maybe a little different with Mike Malone because they did win a couple of years ago. But you ever find yourself in a position where you're like, yeah, like there's nothing fundamentally wrong? Meaning, like, we could exist together, we get along, we live together. It's all good. I'm just not in love. And I just don't think this is what's going to take us to the next level. And when, as they clip the damn buyer played, when everything is really just based on maybe the. Maybe the Nuggets deep down inside and ownership thinks, you know, we're thankful we won one. It was carried by the joker. Coach is good. He brought the. He brought the heap. Right now you're thinking to yourself, maybe this. Maybe they look at the field and they say, we're missing something. And I don't know how you do that with four games left.

[Julie Swearbinks]

That was my point, though.

And you guys liked Malone. Remember at the parade? You liked what he was talking about there. And he had said something about being the Lakers daddy and all that.

He's appeared on our show a few times because of what he says on microphones. He was definitely a fiery guy.

But that's why it proves that there has to be something that we don't know yet more.

He's a good coach. And already on Twitter, I saw some NBA analysts saying, keep an eye on him to possibly be Coach Pop's successor in San Antonio. He'll definitely land somewhere for sure. But this, this is something where personalities. Yeah, exactly. With ownership.

Because, Rich, I like your analogy. Like, he's just not the one.

[Dan Byer]

Right.

[Julie Swearbinks]

I'm not in love with.

But he was two years ago.

It's, It's. It's tough to assess. DB I gotta ask, because I'm sure you're keeping an eye on this story all day. Has there been any hints other than like, maybe the fit's just not right anymore? I know that's very generic, right?

Yeah, actually, there's a lot, because Josh Kroenke, the vice chair of Cronk Sports Entertainment, spoke about an hour ago. We played a little off the top of the. At the top of the hour and then in the show earlier. But he said a few things. This. Well, here's Josh Kroenke.

This wasn't a decision that was taken lightly or taken as in a reactionary fashion to anything specific. You know, having observed that group over a period of time, there were certain Trends that were very worrisome to me at different points in time, but they would get masked by a few wins here and there. And you know, in the world of professional sports, when winning and losing is your currency, you know, winning can mask a lot of things.

[Rich Davis]

So he said that and then he went to this when he gave specific numbers.

[J]

We went on an eight game win streak right before the All Star break, you know, but since then I think we're 11 and 13. We've lost our last four and we're trending towards a direction that I thought would probably be a very near end to our season in the near future.

[Steve Covino]

Okay, I get the sense of that, of that they think come the playoffs right now with Malone in charge, they weren't going to stack up against the Lakers, okc, Golden State where they're at.

[Julie Swearbinks]

And yeah, but you're going to shake it up right now. And all of a sudden.

[Rich Davis]

But I like the cause here's the trump card. This is where I think people will be like, like, oh, okay, we were.

[J]

Going to be changing this, these roles at the end of the season. From that point forward, I think that, you know, I became comfortable with the thinking of, you know, let's try to shake this tree and, and squeeze, squeeze as much out of this as we can.

[Rich Davis]

So they had made a decision to already move on from both of those guys before the season even completed and to their point, well, if we're going to do this anyway and now we're on a four game skid, why not just cut bait now and see if we can make anything of it. If they were already going to do that.

[Steve Covino]

Now, now here's interesting, here's an interesting thought. With very few games left in the regular season, as you head into the postseason, if you got, I mean, when you have the joker and you have that team, it's not like you're, you're, you're, you know, wishing upon a star like they could go on a run with the quality of talent they have on that team. So what have you got, you know, the interim in there and they did get hot. So it's not a crazy idea because if you thought as they, as he said, worrisome trends and currency is winning. It's not a crazy idea when you think about it in that way.

[Rich Davis]

Not at all. And not to draw parallels, but there's two parallels to the city of Milwaukee. And I brought this up with you guys. When Taylor Jenkins was fired in Memphis, when the brewers fired in 2008, Ned Yost with two weeks remaining because they were battling the Mets for the wild card. They can Ned Yost because if they didn't make the playoffs, they weren't going to keep them the next year. Brought in Dale Swaim, who moved over and took over as the interim manager. They ended up holding on, got to the playoffs for the first time in 26 years, and it worked out for them in that case, but Ned Yost was likely going to be gone anyway. I use the Bucks as the example of now you've got Jokic and you just can't waste it. Just like the Bucks have kind of done with Giannis since they won four years ago. I haven't done anything, you know, in that time, and I think that the Nuggets are now starting to feel that crunch of we have to get more out of of maybe this generational player that we've only won one championship with.

[Steve Covino]

That's. That's a great point, DB That's a great point. And you know what your thoughts if you want to chime in on the Nuggets making changes and also if you want to play our game.
