Fight reaction video is brought to you by Total Wireless, the official wireless provider of UFC there in your corner with unlimited 5G data that will not slow you down. And that's a total power move, guys. This fight card was built around Alexander Volkanovski. It was built around the idea that Australia's 37 year old champion could still get the job done against a young challenger who in the first fight against him fought a very competitive fight down the stretch, hurting Volkanovski a couple times as the fight got long tonight or this afternoon, because right now it's only 4pm in Australia, Alexander Volkanovski fought even better, guys. He actually went out there against Diego Lopez and beat him better than he did the first time. His footwork was amazing, right, which is something that we have come to expect. His striking was amazing. I think what impresses me most about Volk, he wasn't able to get any takedowns, but he's so good at dictating the exchanges, dictating when a fight takes place, that guys can't really figure him out. And tonight that was the case, or this afternoon that was the case. Diego Lopez fought better than he did the first time, especially earlier in the fight. He did a better job of pressing forward. He did a better job of trying to impose his will on Alexander Volkanovski, but that didn't change. Both got one takedown in the first fight. Second fight he got one takedown, but even though he wasn't able to get takedowns, he was able to dominate the fight in a way that when I walked into the Octagon to get the decision, there was no question that Volkanovsky had won. It was just a matter of whether or not you thought he won four rounds or if you won five rounds. I am of the belief that Alex probably won all five rounds. You could give him the second round, but I don't think that was far from a dominant round by Diego Lopez. You know, I think what we don't give Volk enough credit for is his fight iq, his ability to Adjust in fight, his ability to get better in fight, his ability to take whatever his opponent is giving him and then switch whatever he's doing right away. You know, in the post fight interview, generally when a person wins a belt or wins a fight, they're so full of energy and they're so excited and they're so happy that while they can talk to the interviewer, they are so jazzed up that it's hard to really put sentences and thoughts together. Putting thoughts together whenever you win a fight, it's difficult. But not Alexander Volkanovsky. I asked him, I said, well, how did you do it better, Volk? And he goes, well, the first time we fought, I was circling to the left or to the right right away from the power of Diego Lopez. He goes. He cut that off really well immediately. So then I just started going to the other direction. In the middle of the fight, Michael and I were questioning why he was circling into the power of Diego Lopez. That was by chance. That was by choice. He chose to circle back towards the power because Diego was too good at cutting off the other side. But while the game plan to do that may be surprising to some, it's surprising to me because he was able to put that thought together. When all of his family is with him inside the Octagon, they're wrapping a belt around his waist. There are 20,000 people in the arena cheering his name like that is. That is an experience that most people cannot handle. It's too much joy. But Volk was able to not only deal with all those emotions, formulate that sentence, and tell him exactly what he wants. Now, what's special about him is he'll fight anybody. Nobody wants to fight Mossar. Nobody wants to fight Lerone. Volk is like, well, if they're next, that's who I'm fighting. He's not trying to pick fights. He's not trying to get the easiest path. He just wants to fight those guys. And I'm telling you, he's the greatest featherweight of all time. I know we love Jose Aldo. I know we love Max Holloway, but he just won his eighth UFC featherweight title fight. Four of those victories are against Holloway and Aldo, the two other guys considered the greatest featherweights of all time. It was Volkanovski's night. He's the best in the world, man, and he's as good as they come. The guy is tremendous, and I really don't see him slowing down anytime soon. He's too committed. So congratulations to the champion once again. Dude, the energy in this place when he walked out, I'm gonna drop the video so you guys can hear. This place went crazy. I don't think on TV it would have did it justice as to exactly what we were hearing out here when Volkanovski walked out. Benoit Sardini beat Dan Hooker to win his fourth fight in a row. Look at Miles in the back doing his job. Benoit Sardini beat Dan Hooker to win his fourth fight in a row. When I spoke to Benoit on Wednesday, I asked him, are you gonna be more patient? Are you gonna take your time? He goes, I have every intention to. He goes, but I always, My intention is always, look, this is what he said to me exactly. My intention is always to be better. He goes, I know what I want to do in the fight. Everyone has a game plan, but when the fight start, it goes. He said, listen, I'm just going forward, there's going to be a clash. Like, he knows that he wants to be more careful. He can't help himself though. He's just an all action fighter. And Van Hooker did really good to start the fight, but then Benoit just started doing Benoit things, man. Press and press and pressing, being a bit reckless, but ultimately still getting the job done. And when he got on top, he was able to force Dan Hooker into. Dan trying to take him down, knowing that Benoit was the better grappler and better scrambler, what happens? Ben winds up on top, finishes the round either in mount or trying to finish an arm triangle. It was crazy. It was impressive. A couple years ago, Benoit San Denis asked to fight Dustin Poirier. When he won in New York, I kind of laughed at him. I said, well, you don't score or you don't hit the shot you don't take, so you got to take it. Benoit, haha, he got that fight and he got beat. Then he lost again. But ever since then he switched teams. Now this guy's on an absolute tear because not only is he winning, he's finishing all these fighters. So Benoit St. Denis now deserves one of those big fights, and I believe that he's going to get one of them. He's ranked number eight in the world right now, but he's going to be much higher come next week. Ty Tuivasa and Towson Teixeira, that was crazy, man. For them dudes to be that exhausted down the stretch, I don't know what they have to do in order to improve the cardio, but that was crazy. Quillen Sou kill once again, gets a submission this time and gets a finish. We all fell in Love with his striking after that beautiful head kick. But S kill's a grappler and tonight that showed against Jamie Malarkey. Great job, Quillin. Billy Ellacana fought Junior Topper and it started bad for Billy Ellacana. He was losing the striking, but he always knew that if he got a takedown, he could go and try to submit the great striker that is Junior Tafa. He. He did exactly that. Took him down, took his back. Rear naked choke finish over. Cameron Rosson is the real deal. He's good, man. The kid is getting better and better. And tonight he looked great against Cody Brundage. Jacob Malcoon beat Torres Finney tonight. Gave Finney his first loss. It was an amazing performance by Al. I coached Finney. I thought this was the greatest matchup for Torres Finney. That was proven wrong tonight with the performance of Jacob Malcoon. Finney did tear his LCL in the very first round. So we'll see what happens with Jake with Torres. Jonathan Micallef was getting beat by old man Elliott. Took him to the ground, submitted him. Those guys had some bad blood, but he got it done. Congratulations to Yiza. Oh, awfully won that fight. That was a robbery. I, I actually, I actually wrote, look, I circled Yizah before I went in to get the decision because I thought he won, but they actually gave the decision to off leave. I didn't think that was right. Don Marfan, Kyo, Chiro Nakamura and Lawrence Louis won the road to the UFC contracts tonight. So congrats to those guys. Guys, just type my total wireless before performance of the night. That's going to go to Mauricio Rufi. Mauricio Rufy knocked out the great Raphael Fazeev. Look man, this fight could have went a number of ways, but I did not expect it to go the way that it did with Roofy finishing him. So for that Mauricio Rupi getting the biggest one of his entire career, he's going to get my total wireless performance of the night. You guys know how much I love and appreciate every one of you for always supporting me, for always holding me down, for always watching my back as I go on this journey with my job here at the ufc. I appreciate you all so much. I hope we all can continue to grow together. Guys. This post fight reaction video was presented by Total Wireless, the official wireless partner of the UFC.
