Welcome to the favorites, the podcast presented by bet365. We are part of the volume podcast network. I am Chad Millman of the Action Network. Today I'm joined as always by my co host, my companion, my compadre, my bff Professional Better Simon Hunter. Hello, Simon.
Simon Hunter
Hello, Chad. What a sports weekend, brother.
Chad Millman
I mean, look, the draft was amazing and we're going to talk about that. No shortage of drama. And you and I, we are going to go through the entirety of the league. We're going to talk about the NFC today. Tomorrow we're going to touch on the afc. A very special episode. It's going to come out a day earlier than usual. Thursday we'll do an episode, our third episode of the week, about the Kentucky Derby with our annual guest, Mike Conti. But dude, I don't know about you. Like, for some reason I ended up kind of having no plans this weekend. And so I watched a ton of the draft and then I watched so much NBA and these games were insane. The Clippers and the Nuggets was insane. The Pistons and the Knicks was insane. The Lakers and the T Wolves was insane. But also somehow I found myself watching the Cubs in the Phillies on Saturday and the Cubs in the Phillies last night. It was like a full on sportacular.
Simon Hunter
Yeah, it's the best. Especially someone like me who's kind of a phony NBA fan where I just. Because my team sucked. The Sixers. I barely watch any of it. I mainly watch college basketball. But as soon as the playoffs hit, I feel like we all just dive back in because that's when everyone's trying. The games are really competitive and it just means so much more. And you really can tell like the level of play. So just such a huge step up. So, yeah, for me it's really fun. But I know is like someone that tries to bet it. It is crazy jumping into it, trying to especially, you know, the Action Network. We have a ton of basketball content. We've been trying to bet these overtime bets. I love it. It's like 15 to 1, sometimes 20 to 1. That to me, has been really fun sweating these games. Like, I don't pick a side. I'm just betting overtime and hoping to hit 1 in every series. So, yeah, it's been really fun.
Chad Millman
The athleticism of these guys is ridiculous. And like, even the third, fourth level guys, the ability, their, their hands are so good in this interior passing and the way these guys can see and they move the ball like it. It's just remarkable. Like, you cannot help but love watching it. And the level of competitiveness is so intense. Like, like that Pistons Knicks game yesterday or watching it on Sunday, actually so glorious. I really wanted the Knicks to lose. Like, I love this Pistons team. It's so much fun. I kind of wanted the Lakers to beat the T Wolves, but Anthony Edwards is just glorious to watch. Like, we are. We are in it right now. Steph Curry the other night, oh my God. Like, his step backs, the way he can put on the brakes. He willed that team to victory. It is. If you're not watching the NBA playoffs right now, you got to get into it. But we are going to get into the NFL draft because here's how crazy and fun the NFL draft is. Thursday night we were watching the Pistons Knicks in my house. And even my son, who's a massive NBA fan, wanted to turn on the first round of the NFL draft. And I think a lot of it was because of Shador Sanders, which we're going to get to. As a reminder, the Favorites podcast is presented by bet365new bet365. Customers get $150 in bonus bets. Mike Green, the linebacker from Marshall. There were some questionable character issues, so he fell to the Ravens. But there's only one story here. Shador Sanders. Shador Sanders dropping. We talked about this last week with Raybon and Evan. How did this impact your bets? Seeing how he dropped?
Simon Hunter
I mean, I lost money on it. I thought the over, I like the over two and a half quarterbacks first round. And you know, it just goes to show that I think you kind of got to tell them what people you can kind of trust and follow in the sports media that give out these mocks. I, I just don't understand how these people, it's their jobs. And you had people saying he was their top five guy, their number one quarterback on their draft board. Let's do one in the fifth round. So there's clearly a disconnect there. Like, I, I can't wrap my head around that part because it's like I get a lot of it. A lot of these people are phonies and they don't really talk to anybody. But like, how could you, how could you have been so off? And, you know, typical fashion, the stories come out after, right? Chad, it's like, you know, apparently he wore headphones to meetings at the combine. When he's meeting with teams with music playing on his headphones and then puts it around his neck while the music keeps playing while doing the interviews with these teams, I can't wrap my head around if that's real. If that's real, that's. It truly is insane that he was self sabotaging because there was teams he didn't want to go to. Where? Yeah, the NFL, it's a business. It is a sports league. But if you take them to court, they say entertainment first. I don't know the collusion. I know Chad knows, doesn't know about the collusion, but something went on. Like this kid. Anyone could tell you he's got second round talent at worst, right? His arm talent. Things you can do in the field. Okay, personality bump him down to a third round Chad. I'll give him that. But for this kid to drop to the fifth round, you know, he must have just burned a ton of bridges and the league humbled him. And you know, I love the historical data. Dove it right in. I asked myself who is a great fifth round quarterback? I don't know if you could think on one for a second. I got an answer for you. It's zero. It's never happened in the NFL. So I'm excited for him to prove these teams wrong and write his own story or he's going to fall apart, be a washout of the league in three, four years. And these GMs, these teams were right. So really interesting storyline to follow for the next three, four years, Chad of what Sanders is going to become.
Chad Millman
Well, look, the, the meltdown. The, the meltdown, for lack of a better term, of Kuiper and watching him kind of get angrier and angrier as the days went on of how Shador Sanders was dropping when he had him as his QB1 from the beginning and never wavered. And he actually talked about this because I like, it was riveting to me and I think by, I don't know what it was Saturday afternoon I was watching the draft at this point only to see where Shador Sanders was going to go. And it's kind of like when everybody was watching the second round of the NBA draft last year to see what happened to Bronny. When Shador Sanders finally got drafted in the fifth round, Mel went on air and said these are the number of quarterbacks from the fifth round who have ever made the Pro bowl, something to that extent. The number was zero. It was like in the third round you had like 16 and the fourth.
Simon Hunter
Round, it's an anomaly. It's a, it's a freak.
Chad Millman
17 even in the sixth round because of Brady. But like, you know, zero in the fifth round. And you really got to look at this. The NFL for all of its failings. And we've talked a lot about the inability to accurately scout quarterbacks. It is rare the reason why everyone talks about it when a Puka Nakua comes out of nowhere, when a Tom Brady comes out of nowhere, because those are the exceptions. Shador Sanders is going to have to defy tremendous odds to get on that field and be effective and be the player that everyone thought he would be in all of their mock drafts. Kudos to Evan and Raybon who throughout their draft podcasts they were saying this guy is not a first round talent. They weren't saying he was a fifth round talent. But like this is not a guarantee that just because he's going to a team that Might be the right fit for him that he's going to get a chance to be the guy everyone thought he could have been when they were mocking him to go in the first round.
Simon Hunter
Yeah, like I told you months ago, I had scouts tell me this guy was a second round talent. They didn't tell me he was off their draft board. Like, that was the thing that was most shocking. It's like the day after everyone's like, no, half these teams didn't have this guy as a top four round pick. Some had him off their draft board. It's like, who had them off his draft board? Like he had to have self sabotaged. Chad. I just, none of it, nothing else makes sense. Where it's like, you know, I try to go through and think of the. Who are the cockiest personalities come out of the last 10 years. Like that's what I was trying to think of. Who, who would go in there and be such an. That they were just like, I don't care the talent level. I'm downgrading this kid.
Chad Millman
I'm not nobody.
Simon Hunter
Exactly.
Chad Millman
That's the thing.
Simon Hunter
That's exactly like the only ones I could pop my head. I'm like, even if Joe Burrow was cocky as. Even if he wasn't an asshole, he wasn't ignorant about it. He wasn't going to these meetings being like, I'm hot. I'm not. I'm not even taking an interview with the Bengals. I'm too good to go to Cincinnati. You didn't hear any of that with Joe. Even though, you know he, it. He can come off as arrogant to a lot of people. You know, it's, it's a fine line. And you know, he had the talent obviously to back it up. Where these teams are saying to Sanders, you do not have the talent to back up your personality. So yeah, it's, it's going to be a hot topic, Jeff, for the next couple of years. Just because everyone obviously had an opinion on it when it was happening. I'm sure you're the same way where part of you feels bad, but there's another part of you of he had to have brought this on himself. Like there's no other. Like these guys are trying to win. This is a business. So for all them together to take a stand and say this kid's a fifth round pick. It was shocking. Like we just said, we all at worst thought he was a second round pick. He was three rounds later, Chad. So, yeah, definitely the craziest storyline of the weekend.
Chad Millman
Well, look what's interesting about the NFL. And what's interesting about NFL owners is the tolerance for criminal misbehavior, violent misbehavior versus their tolerance for attitude misbehavior. Potential distractions in the locker room. Sugar Sanders, cocky, arrogant, you know, distraction. Colin Kaepernick, distraction. But how many players get drafted? How many players get second chances? How many players are atop anybody's draft board after egregious criminal mistakes? Right? And so you can see what the line is for NFL owners. They don't want anyone who is going to make noise and challenge them from a personality perspective, but they don't mind people who are going to challenge what are considered to be the appropriate ethics and beliefs that they should have. It's a very interesting study. There's no denying it. Like where owners fall on the line of challenging personality versus challenging criminal behavior.
Simon Hunter
There is, but it's because of the money, brother. It's like, like I love Tim Tebow. You can't have Tim Tebow be your third stringer. That's why Tim Tebow was at a league. Who wants to hear about your third string quarterback all the time? So I get what you're talking about. But at the end of the day, you know, a lot of these guys do have personalities. They just. The money's so insane. They know, right? Don't, don't say, just play the, play the game. So, you know, the only guy that really can say is Aaron Rodgers because he's, he's on his way out. He can be a little crazy. Talk about doing drugs and all this other stuff in the off season. You ain't ever going to hear any of these young guys talking about that stuff, Chad. So. Yeah, I, I just, I can't get over how, how that happened. Like you said, the whole meltdown on TV with Mel, it was theater. It's, it's what we love as humans. It's just, it's crazy to watch.
Chad Millman
It was such good theater. Yeah, it was, it was glorious. And you know what? Good for Mel. Like, good for Mel that he stuck to his guns and he's done this in the past. Look, there's that infamous scene with Bill Polian when they.
Simon Hunter
Oh, they're gonna say Jimmy Clausen. That's even, that's more recent.
Chad Millman
Well, obviously. But, but no, I remember Jimmy Clausen and he's saying this guy should make eight Pro Bowls and whatever. But he said he quit.
Simon Hunter
You said he would do tire.
Chad Millman
That's right. But what's interesting is like Mel is an affable.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Guy.
Chad Millman
We love Mel. We've had him on the show before and I think he's fantastic and what he's done with the draft is amazing. But I love that he will be stubborn on certain things and this is a relationship business and he does not back down from it and he cannot be challenged by anybody for his opinions because he's been right so often and he created what has now become this massive, massive industry of covering the draft, being mesmerized by the draft and I love the fact that he has been pounding the table on Shedeur Sanders. I don't care about Shadur Sanders success or failure. I am interested to see if Shadur Sanders can make Mel Kuiper look good because that to me is going to be a storyline that is going to be relevant until it's decided. And the way these things go, look, Geno Smith, his career didn't become his career until he was 10 years in. So in 10 years Mel Kiper might long be retired and he could finally be proven right about shoulder Sanders.
Simon Hunter
Well, I said Sanders ceiling was Gino Gino Smith. So you know, I don't know how much that's winning Mel Kuiper. If at the end of it, if it is a Geno Smith type it's like all right, way to go.
Chad Millman
Well, it's funny because he does have that list of players drafted who were who slid down the board who he had as much higher ranked players. Gino's on there. Jimmy Clawson is on there. I think there were eight guys on there and six of them have gone on to really productive careers. Two of them Jimmy Clawson and somebody else did not. And he's got one more guy on there, Will Levis, who, you know, it remains to be seen but it's not looking good that that wasn't on the list. And to me, like I don't know, Gino's done okay. Like he's had a good few years. I think that are are sort of seen in a better light because of where he came from. And so you know, we're going to talk about the Raiders for the show tomorrow and I think that they'll be in a good position but no one's looking at the Raiders is like a threat. And so is Shador Sanders going to be a guy who is good enough to make a team, win some games but never a threat? We're going to find out but it's going to be a great story and it's why this league is so much fun.
Simon Hunter
Give them hard knocks oh, God, that would be amazing.
Chad Millman
There's so, you know, there's all those goofy rules about Hard Knocks, but who knows if they're eligible for Hard Knocks. But if the NFL knows what it's doing, which it definitely does, as an entertainment entity, they will figure out how to fix those rules. So Cleveland is 100% in hard knocks again. All right, I want to get to team by teams here, NFC East. Start with the Giants. You know, they had Abdul Carter, great pick. Everyone's, you know, saying it's a no brainer. Number three overall edge rusher from Penn State. Then this is where it gets exciting, right? They, they trade back into the first round and they go to get Jackson Dart, a guy who is clearly going to sit this year behind Russell Wilson and James Winston. So did Brian Dayball and Joe Shane just draft a guy they'll never get to develop?
Simon Hunter
I don't know. Brian might stick around. It is a question about the gm, especially the. The whole story about his kid was putting up Jackson.
Chad Millman
That wasn't true, though. That wasn't true.
Simon Hunter
Oh, really?
Chad Millman
Oh, you didn't see? Oh, no, it was. This is crazy. This is another thing. Like Jeff Ulbricht, the former interim coach for the jets, now the defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, left his iPad accessible for his kid. His kid got the number and pulled the prank and then admitted it over the weekend and called the Sanders family to apologize. And let me just say this.
Simon Hunter
I.
Chad Millman
Thought that was a bullshit low class dickhead amateur hour cruel move.
Simon Hunter
You don't like prank calls?
Chad Millman
I love prank calls. I do. Like, like I used to listen to the Jerky Boys.
Simon Hunter
There you go.
Chad Millman
On the way home from driving to, from, from Chicago to Bloomington and back. And Bloomington back to Chicago. Loved it. Huge Jerky Boys fan. Obviously love when Stern does his prank calls, all that kind of stuff. But I think there's a difference here between adore Sanders, who was clearly as arrogant as he is, was actually trying to handle the whole draft situation with dignity and being open about it and standing in front of the camera and making statements and communicating with fans. He could have gone into a hole and you know, while he's living his life out loud, when he's successful, decided, I'm not. I need my privacy when I don't. He didn't do that. And instead these idiot kids act like fucking dickheads and try to be funny and take a challenging moment for Shador Sanders and make it worse. I just thought it was bullshit. I didn't even watch it. You know, my kid asked Me last night at dinner, if I had watched it because he had told me about the apology, I'm like, I didn't want to watch it. Like, I just. It made me uncomfortable. It felt like it was voyeuristic and they were dicks. That's how I felt.
Simon Hunter
Yeah. As always, humor is subjective. I am a fan of all prank calls. I could be on my deathbed, call me up, prank call me, anything. I don't care. I'm just. I'm still glad that the youth still doing it because it's. I thought it was a dying art. Right. I mean, in my youth, Chad, the amount of times we just spent a Friday night when I was in eighth grade or seventh grade. Guys, it's different. These kids are 21. Chad's right. They're psychopaths. But they, they. The up was. They videotaped themselves doing. Yeah, that's the issue with the youth today is they don't. They don't. They're too stupid in that part. But yeah, prank calls. I'm about it. So. Yeah, that's. We differ.
Chad Millman
Listen, I love prank calls.
Simon Hunter
I know, but you're a father. You're thinking of it from like your. This is your kid from. I don't. I don't give a Them kids. I don't have kids. So I am the other way where it's like I loved it and I.
Chad Millman
Can'T believe I have to be.
Simon Hunter
Every year there's prank calls.
Chad Millman
Defending Shador Sanders. I don't like. I don't care about his success in the NFL. I just thought it was a loser move, that's all.
Simon Hunter
I'll get back to Giants. Hold on.
Chad Millman
Let me give you. Let me. Let me say this about the Giants. The Giants, because I do want to make sure people have their odds to win the NFC east right now, plus 2828 to 1.
Simon Hunter
Yeah. And I love their draft like of. I always want to on the Giants just because it's been easy these last couple years. But for this division, they had my favorite draft and it's. It's just a draft of hope. And they've not had that in New York in a long time. And because no one really like a lot of guys I know, especially in the area I live in, a lot of Giants fans, none of them really believed in Daniel Jones like they. They. They had high hopes. His rookie year, I remember his first game against Tampa. It was insane how good he was. And then it being probably one of his best games of his career, which was his first start Ever against Tampa. And he never really gave him hope or, you know, dart easily. Could be a bust. You know, this kid has a lot of upside, but he has a lot of game to him where you're just like, this is not going to translate to NFL. I mean, the kid's in a division with Dak Prescott, a guy who I know people left it dead. He was second in MVP voting just two years ago. He's got a Super Bowl MVP in his division. Jalen Hurts. And then he's got arguably the best rookie we've ever seen in Jaden Daniels. It's really tough right now for Giants fans. So to me, this was a win for them. You have a lot of pieces here that really like Carter, my number one player, unlike graded for this draft. They got him as an edge rusher. I hate that. Like he's going to be so tough to face in this division. So, yeah, great draft by New York would not touch their odds for them winning this division. I think you're on the same boat.
Chad Millman
Well, so let's go to another wild card there, which is the Cowboys, who needed a wide receiver, didn't get one in the first round, needed a running back, didn't get one in the first round. They needed some offensive line help. They reached for a guard at number 12, the kid from Alabama. And you know, clearly Jerry is trying to recapture that magic of drafting Zach Martin. But the Cowboys, who are, what is that, three to one? Basically, I think I'm seeing. Yeah, seven to one. You're seeing seven to one?
Simon Hunter
Yeah, seven to one for the division.
Chad Millman
I saw something different. Oh yeah, you're right. Seven to one. They're in a interesting spot because Dak will be back, but they still don't have a running back.
Degree Advertiser
We'll see.
Simon Hunter
I love blue. A kid they drafted out of Texas. You know, it's gonna be interesting what type of back he is. Is he gonna be cj2k this incredible fast scat back, or is he just gonna be a random third down guy they bring in because he's too small or he just doesn't know how to block like, well, like that. That could be him. But yeah, like you said, they could have taken one higher up. They waited to what, pick 150, 149, something like that, to take this kid? Yeah, I'm with you on that. I, I liked how they started though. I like that they went offensive guard. They're attacking the offensive line, which they need to do now. Like you said, they've lost all these hall of Famers across this last two years. It's, it's a position of need. So I know it sucks, right? People are hoping they're gonna take a receiver there, which they just didn't grade out their shivers high enough to take them there. That's, that's how it is when you're looking at your big board and you know they went after the edge in the next round, so that's good. But yeah, this is a team we're going to dive into a lot this summer. I just love the value on this Cowboys team, you know.
Chad Millman
Yeah, you've already bet the Cowboys on this spot.
Simon Hunter
So. Yeah. So yeah, they're, they're, they're right now for me, the, to me the best value in this division. They were 8 to 1. Mechan had a live show. What was that like a month ago? Now they're down to seven to one and most books are six to one at some books. So it's just a team that pros are going to bet in the public. They'll just stay away because they had a year from hell last year.
Chad Millman
I think that's the only thing you said at the live show in the entire show was bet the Cowboys to win the NFC East. The how did you feel about the Eagles? Let's talk about the Eagles. Yeah, everyone loves what, how he did. Everyone thinks Howie's a genius, like getting another player that he feels like they need at linebacker. Did you have thoughts?
Simon Hunter
Yeah. Eagles minus 160 right now at Beth365. They won this division and coming into this draft, I honestly it's. I think most Eagles fans are this point of we think we have the greatest football team ever. There are no weaknesses. What can we do to make this team better? So going in, I was just hoping to go tight end or some type of D end. And yeah, Jihad Campbell, the kid they took in the first round, stud linebacker from Alabama. Typical dumb fan. I am. I know very little about this kid. What the hell do I. Am I watching tape on Alabama's linebackers? No. So I've dove in on him, love him. Find out he's from Timber Creek, like literally 20 minutes away from me here in South Jersey. So he's a local kid. Stud, doesn't need necessarily play linebacker. Can be an edge player. So you know how he does it. Once again has this guy fall right into his lap. Trades up, which I want to bet, which I did not deserve to win. I had made a bet the Eagles would trade up because I had info that how he was going to try to move up and apparently he was getting rejected for an hour by every team trying to trade up and he saved my ass straight up one spot for me to win that bet. Fifth round pick and yeah you know it's. It's a team that Howie clearly loves. Our offense he took I think it was five straight defensive players in this draft. So there are certain things I like about teams doing that and like I think our offense has zero weaknesses attack the defense and that's exactly what he did. So once again Howie, most people are giving them the classic A A plus. I'll give him a B plus.
Chad Millman
He did say something interesting about Dallas Goddard. He's part of the team for now. What is that about?
Simon Hunter
I think he stays. I think they were going to try to move him but the tight ends they wanted got taken and they base because this was a really good tight end class and it just didn't work out with the board and he's got a one year deal. How he doesn't really like playing playing guys on the team on a one year deal. So that's why I wouldn't be shocked if they do move them. I would not like to me he. I know he does get injured when he's out there. Hertz has so much trust in him especially on third downs which is like we talk all the time. If, if you have the right guy on third downs it changes the whole dynamic of your team. So I hope they keep them Chad because they didn't address the position but still would not be shocked because how he just has a weird thing about keeping guys on one year deals.
Chad Millman
Last team in the NFC East Washington 2 to 1 maybe 220 to win the division. I don't have a strong opinion about their draft. I don't know that they did anything to immediately vault them any higher. Any closer to the Eagles and they didn't lose ground to the Cowboys. The key for them is they got Jaden Daniels and now what can they do to improve their defense. I don't know that they did anything spectacular to help themselves.
Simon Hunter
No. And they were yearly so another team I would not touch their. Their odds. This is they should be closer to plus 350 plus 400 for this division than they are. They're just. They're just beloved by everybody. People are making Jamie Daniels a top five quarterback already in this league. A guy who's played one year. So that's just stay away from them. And you know this draft they had five picks. What are you going to do not much ammo to use, you know, go great. Got offensive tackle at pick 29. Love it. Like that's what they should be doing. Yeah, it's, it's ten year plan now with the quarterback they have, you were thinking 10 years now every, every draft you should be thinking 10 years. So yeah, I like this Washington team, but nothing, no value here for me divisionally. I'm betting on them.
Chad Millman
One of the great anecdotes from the draft was Cliff Kingsbury leaving a note for the Washington GM on his door that just says stop by. Please take Oregon left tackle Josh Connolly, who's the guy that took from from Oregon. So good for them. Do you say data or data? Well, at my house we say data. Hey, so we all make mistakes, but owning up is the right thing to do. You know Degree Cool Rush deodorant well, last year they changed the formula and it did not go well with their fans.
Degree's whole thing is it turns up the sweat and odor protection when you turn up the effort. And good thing it does because Cool Rush fans really turned up the effort to bring back the original formula. One guy even started an online petition and Degree listened.
They admitted they effed up and are bringing the original Cool Rub scent back. And it's exactly how you remember it. Cool, crisp and fresh. It's back in Walmart, Target and other stores now for under $4.

Let's talk about the NFC West. 49ers made a very important pick in the seventh round of the draft, which to me says everything we need to know about how serious they are when it comes to keeping Brock pie. Are you ready?
Simon Hunter
Yeah.
Chad Millman
They chose Curtis Rourke, Indiana University starting quarterback in the seventh round. To me, that clearly says we're not messing around with Brock Purdy. We're going to recreate the seventh round magic and they're going to bring Curtis Rourke into the starting lineup, replacing Brock Purdy. When he wants his 65 to 70 million a year, they're going to be like, yeah, we got the winner who took the Indiana Hoosiers to the College Football Playoff.
Simon Hunter
As I say, the only reason you draft this kid is he's a winner and he's smart. That's what, that's what they're saying themselves. So, yeah, they're, they're draft. Chad, just what I talked about earlier, it's, they went in with a plan. They attacked the weakness of their Team. What is the weakness right now? The 49ers, it's that defense. They have a whole total overhaul of this defense. So yeah, they started with an edge, a D tackle, D lineman, db, the lineman. Like that just shows you exactly what their plan was there. Just attack that D line and attack. What they think is a weakness right on their team is that defense. So yeah, not much to say of the 49ers here. Plus 145. Don't like that value at all. I think they're over under win total was like ten and a half. Yeah, I can't do it. So, yeah, interesting team coming into this season.
Chad Millman
Yeah, they went Michael Williams. Is it Mikel or Michael Edge, rusher from Georgia. Then they went defensive tackle, then they went linebacker, then they went cornerback, defensive tackle. They had a wide receiver, a running back, like a safety. They basically just drafted all defenders other than Curtis Rourke, future starting quarterback. The Rams, meanwhile, plus 165 to win the division. There was a lot of people, there were a lot of people who were like, will the Rams go after Shedeur Sanders? It felt like, you know, they need that pick. They need a guy who can back up Matthew Stafford. Were you surprised at the Rams draft? Kind of quiet draft. Like they weren't aggressive. They traded out. Were you surprised at the Rams draft?
Simon Hunter
No, because all the whispers you hear is that they actually like dart and that you, if you look, they traded it out right after you got taken and they trade out for a ton. Like that's a great trade by them getting out of there, getting a first round pick for next year, which we talked about before the draft. I think next year is a really good draft class. So if that's the route that they want to go with McVeigh, they're going to have the opportunity. But yeah, this whole draft that kept trading down and yeah, this is a team that, you know, one of those front offices I just trust and everything they do. Like they hadn't had a first round pick for years and they finally did get one. You know, they had the best defensive player of the season last year in first. So yeah, this is a team that, you know, I wouldn't bet them at this point. Plus 165. They were plus 200. It's come down. I'll wait. This is a slow starting team. We've, we have the history on it every year they start slow and then they figure it out as the season goes along. So yeah, I, I, we just have to trust this team. Right? It's McVay in this front office, I assume they nailed the draft, but we look at these pieces on the draft board, I got no clue.
Chad Millman
Right. I mean, it's a lot of sort of. It wasn't shiny, spectacular, explosive players. It was a lot of continuing to build depth for the Rams in all the places where they like to build depth. They're building depth at tight end, they're building depth across the defensive line. And look, they've been brilliant at it. We saw it last year. If they think, all right, we can get through one more year with Matthew Stafford and then next year if we've got two picks, we can package, trade up, get one of the top quarterbacks coming out of the draft, that could put him in a really good position. Totally agree with you. It's interesting to me. It makes me feel better about the Giants loving Jackson darth that Sean McVay like Jackson Dart so much. Arizona Cardinals plus 550 to win the division. We talk about guys dropping, we talked about Shador, we talked about Mike Green, Will Johnson, who they took in the second round, the cornerback from Michigan, he dropped because of an injury. But people are loving this pick, talking about him having all pro potential that you don't often get in the second round. Are we more enthusiastic about the Arizona Cardinals right now?
Simon Hunter
Yeah. This to me is the best value in this division. If you're looking just divisional odds, you get a plus 550 and get a plus 600 shop around. To me, this draft, they needed to attack the defense just like a couple of teams you've already talked on. They did like first round pick D tackle. Then like you said, Will Johnson, cornerback. Then they went edge and then they went D. Then they went D back. Like this is how they should have drafted. Right. That's the weakness of this team is their defense for sure. So confidence in Kyler Murray. Every year it gets less and less. Chad, I think you're in the same boat. So this is a team where every year it feels like it's a make or break career year for Kyler. We all know he's got the talent, he's got the tools, he's got the weapons. Offensively, no more excuses. We're over. I think everyone's kind of over. I think Arizona is about a year or two away from being over it as well. So I love what they did. Attack the defense. You got a defensive minded head coach. He should not scout these players. So yeah, to me, best value right now, Arizona in this division, divisional odds.
Chad Millman
Seattle 6 to 1. They got Sam Darnold, they drafted Jalen Milroe. Could be interesting for a couple of packages a game. They really focused on the offensive line. That was the issue last year. We saw it. They couldn't stop anybody from getting to Geno last year and that ultimately became the Achilles heel for the team. So the first thing they do, they draft this guy, Gray Zabel, who's the guard from North Dakota State, who Mel went crazy over. And it was a sort of a non spectacular, non high profile names yet players who if you look at draft experts, everybody loved what Seattle did. They loved they drafted high quality, high potential for need on their team.
Simon Hunter
Yeah, love this kid. You know, I've saw a couple interviews with him. His personality as well. It's like this is the exact kind of guy I want on my offensive line. He's got that personality for it and just an absolute dog. But that's not going to fix their issues this upcoming season. That the more I look at their team, I'm excited to see what their defense is going to be like in year two. But their, their offensive line is terrible and that's Sam Darnold's Achille heel is pressure, especially up the middle. So great that they took a guard, a guy we think is going to be a good player. But they have a lot of holes to fix and I just don't think they did enough in this draft to fix those holes in that offensive line.
Chad Millman
To the NFC south because we love Baker and last year at this time, I think we were thinking the Bucks might be the worst team in the division. Now they are the odds on favorite to win again. They chose a Mecca, Buka, the wide receiver from Ohio State, which could just tell you something about how they feel about Chris Godwin. They also chose a guy that we talked about last week on the podcast with Thor Nystrom, who loved Benjamin Morrison, the cornerback from Notre Dame. They drafted him in the second round and you know, if you want to talk, maybe I'm getting soft. You loved the the prank call of Olbrook's kid to Shador Sanders. I loved the complete, total, genuine, authentic emotional response that Ben Morrison had when he was got. When he got the call from the Bucks and was just full waterworks, full tears, joy, relief, pride, happiness with his family. That to me was like those homecoming videos that you get on Tick Tock where the soldiers come home and they're hugging their kids and the kids see them and they freak out. That to me what that was, I could just watch that all day. Go Bucks, go Ben Morrison.
Simon Hunter
Yeah, yeah. And I would say just from the top, pretty interesting. They open at +110 for this division. Like the fact that the books are giving them so much more weight over Penix in Atlanta, which I think is going to be the really Joe Public team. So that shows that early smart money's got to be Tampa. Right? That's, that's professional money here, making that number what it is. And looking at this draft, like you just said, they had to attack that secondary. That was their biggest weakness last year. I know they had horrible amount of injuries and at the end of the day though, they just had a talent weakness at that position. Even their starters before they got hurt weren't great. So the fact that, you know, they're going after their cornerbacks, they're going after D line, and like you said, start out the top with a wide receiver because, you know Godwin is coming off a major injury. Love it all, Chad. And it's just Tampa, like we keep saying. It's incredible the organization they are in this division where, you know, as much as we love on this division, this is a Tampa team that is an expansion team, has won multiple Super Bowls and it's, it's pretty incredible at this point that Tom Brady, now, what is it, year three since he's been gone and they've won the division two years in a row since he's left. So really, really impressive. And like Chad's basically saying we're just going to trust this front office. They just keep making the right draft picks and the right moves.
Chad Millman
Speaking of Atlanta not understanding their moves for the second year in a row. Yeah, okay, like they, they, they got their, their, their edge rusher in the middle of the first round and then they trade a first rounder to the Rams who basically fleeced them to get back into the first round and draft another edge rusher who wasn't even like the highest rated edge rusher left on the board.
Simon Hunter
Yeah, it's, it's bizarre, especially where I love the Walker pick. It felt like that was a. Oh, great. You guys are attacking the edge. You need DNS. Great, now you'll take another one in the second round maybe. No, they traded back in to take another dn, which is good. I like the idea for their team, but like you just said, it's really stupid value, especially where they have an unproven quarterback appendix. Being their starter next year, I mean, they could shit the bed. This could be a top 10, top 15 pick. So bizarre move. Rams, like we said, just the rich getting Richer, smart move by them. And yeah, overall, this is a team that needed to attack the defense like we talked about. They used their first four picks attacking the defense. Their last pick, pick 218, took an O lineman. So yeah, this, like you said, plus 230, plus 240 for them to win this division. I am not touching Atlanta. I just, I don't really trust this team and I don't know how I feel yet about PennX.
Chad Millman
Is it too early in the year to say, all right, we're going in on the Panthers at plus 435? Because they basically, they addressed every need. They needed a receiver for Bryce Young, they needed edge rushers. They did that. They needed help like along the defensive line generally. They did that. Like, they were great. They were totally great. Love the Panthers. If we believed in them, at the end of the year, we have to believe in them at +435.
Simon Hunter
Yeah. Like you said, like, this is a team we're going to love. And you know, the fact that they were plus 500 got bet down a plus 450. Now they're down to 4 plus 425. It makes sense. I think most professionals are like us, but they're just gonna look at this team that they have so much potential. And like you said in this draft, they attacked all the needs we talked about, right. They needed edge, help, some DNS. They wouldn't got two of them. The first round pick is gonna be interesting, Chad. Like this kid McMillan, this wide receiver. Like a couple really bad clips of him out there, him talking about how he doesn't love football, doesn't like, like doing the extra work. Right. Reading through the playbook. I think what he came out and said afterwards, he was just young and stupid and he was just talking out of his ass. And I hope that's true because we said all the time it's, it's easy to act like you love this. The great ones though, they, they love it and they put in the work and that's what you're going to need, especially if you're going to be the number one receiver of this team. So we're on the same page. We. It's never too early for us to show our love on this Panthers and the fact that it's still above plus 400. I love that value right now. This Panthers team to win this division.
Chad Millman
Look at Nick Saban, who I love, had great comments about this. Happens in every field. Just because you have innate talent as a football player doesn't mean it Translates when you get to the higher levels in the same way you might have innate talent as a doctor doesn't mean it's going to translate. If you don't commit to the process, if you don't do the work, if you're not passionate about it, if you don't want to study on a regular basis, you can be the greatest doctor, the greatest football player in the world. There's very few people who can get away with not doing all the stuff that it takes to elevate to the next level.
Nick Saban
And he can't be an outcome oriented guy. If you're going to be productive because you're going to focus on what you need to do to get it right. And I think a lot of times when guys have talent, you just assume that they have that everybody's smart that goes to medical school, but everybody doesn't make it through. And some that make it through don't make good doctors. So it's the same kind of thing with athletes. When people are process oriented and then they have a discipline to execute it, that's when you get a talented player who becomes a great player.
Simon Hunter
But like I always love the story about young guys who come in, they see the veteran quarterback and how eye open is and you know, Mahomes tells a great story about Alex Smith where he was just like, I knew how hard I had to work, but seeing the fact that he was always the first one in, last one out, like really doesn't still in you. It's like you want to be the best. The guy who was already much better than you is put in that extra hours like we talk all the time. The Kobe story. Kobe going to the gym with the USA basketball team at 4 or 5 in the morning. LeBron James couldn't believe it. He goes, wait, you're practicing before our practice and lifting. And that's when he realized like that's what it takes to be great. So yeah, it's really interesting what they did in this draft, this Panthers team.

Saints went with Calvin Banks, first pick tackle from Texas. We had a long conversation about them in the podcast last week, where his position was going to be. He was starting to get all this love. People thought he might go before Will Campbell, who went forth over all the Patriots. He did not. But what got interesting was everyone thought Shadow Sanders to the Saints was the exact right spot. And then in the second round, they draft that, you know, 85 year old quarterback from Louisville. So clearly Shador Sanders was never in there in, in the Saints draft plans. They're 7 to 1 right now to win the NFC South.
Simon Hunter
Yeah, I was reading about that kid Tyler. I think he's like 26, the quarterback they took from Louisville, practically my age. Seriously though, very bizarre. Very, very bizarre pick. Like I said before, I Know that he has a ton of talent. It's someone who can never stay healthy and like, you know, has never proven to be what he just got drafted at. So, yeah, the Saints, I thought they had the worst draft in this division, but I think it's also just, you know, part of the deal with this Saints team. It's just they're going to be doubted every step just because they've just been a train wreck here this last five, six years. So, yeah, don't have much I have to say about the Saints team. Would not touch them at +800 +750 to win this division.
Chad Millman
Best division in football. NFC North Detroit Lions, best record in football last year. Number one seed. Did it with masking tape. On their defensive side. On the defensive side of the ball. So what do they do? First pick, they draft a guy from Ohio State. Defensive tackle, great move. But then they go offensive line, wide receiver, offensive line. They don't go back to the defensive line and an edge rusher until the sixth round of the draft. They're clearly smarter than we are. They are the odds on favorite to win the division, plus 130 at that. 365. I'm not betting the Lions to win this division.
Simon Hunter
No, I. You know, we might overrate it a little bit on this show how important coaching is, but there is some truth to our madness and the fact they lost such important key figures to this team from the defensive side and the offensive side of the coaching position. We have to hold it accountable. And you know, we talk about this division, the worst odds right now are chad's bears at plus 450.
Chad Millman
That's crazy.
Simon Hunter
That's how close this division is right now where it's.
Chad Millman
And we're betting the Bears, like you.
Simon Hunter
Said, though, it's the best division of football. So I want to take a position on Detroit. I don't think this is the spot to take, especially divisionally. It's not a good number. And like you said, I'm going to trust their front office. I like that they attacked just the D line. The D line. First pick. Great. Now give me a couple offensive linemen, right? Keep building on what makes you guys so great, which is that offensive line. That's. That's what it's all about. And you know, the whispers we hear about them moving on from the wide receiver, Williams. We don't know how true it is, but they did take a wide receiver at pick 70. That's a big deal. So you're right. Like, this is not a Team, we're going to take a plus 130, but I'm, I'm excited to see what they're going to be like without Ben Johnson. Like, this is just a team that oozes a crazy amount of talent. Can they stop being cursed? Put it all together remains to be seen.
Chad Millman
Packers +275. Jordan Love coming back for a full season healthy and I do like what they did here. After years of neglecting the receiver room generally and trying to patch together with with lower rated players, they went out and got a burner in Matthew golden, who had dropped a little bit. A lot of people thought he might be the number one receiving prospect and they got him at 23. That's a weapon for Jordan Love. I love this play. Still not the team I would bet to win the division.
Simon Hunter
Yeah, I don't hate the number. I Wish it was plus 300. Plus 275. It feels like we missed the best of the number for this division, you know. Love the golden pick. Green Bay fans bitching and moaning about them never taking talented receivers. You guys drafted Devonte Adams. What the you talking about? Jordy Nelson? You drafted him as well. It's like you guys have had some great draft picks. Your front office is just smart taking them in the second, third round. And you know, golden here, you definitely slipped, right? This is the guy that a lot of.
Chad Millman
Yeah, for sure.
Simon Hunter
To be a top 10, top 15 pick and maybe the first receiver off the board. Yes. Speedster. Excited to see what LaFleur does with him in different packages. You know, this is a team that went receiver, offensive tackle, receiver. I love that start. Right. They're basically saying to Jordan Love, okay, we'll admit we failed you a little bit here. We've not gotten you the weapons wide receiver that we should have in these last two, three years. We're going to attack that position in this draft and you know, obviously they need golden to hit right in this division. The difference between the number one team and the last place team is so small. It's going to be guys like this, this type of pick that could change his division. So if golden hits, he's a Tyree Kill type, you know, a speedster that can stretch the field and open up the run game for Josh Jacobs. It's a home run of a draft pick. So, yeah, I get why Green base fans are so excited. How can you not be taking this kid with a great name as well? Golden, I love it at pick 23.
Chad Millman
Minnesota Vikings plus 400. Minnesota Vikings. Look, it's basically JJ McCarthy was their number one pick because he'll be starting this year. So they did the right things. They drafted a guard from Ohio State, Donovan Jackson. To help protect him, they drafted a wide receiver from Maryland. Future school for my younger son, Owen Millman, who has decided to commit to Maryland. We're super excited about that. Go Terps. Yeah, they did the things they need to do in the first couple rounds to give JJ McCarthy a little bit more support. You're always going to trust their coach. I like the value at Minnesota at this number. Don't like it as much as the Bears though.
Simon Hunter
No, I wouldn't touch it. It's. It's too much unknown with jj. I'm excited. Obviously they got high hopes this kid's a winner. But like we talked about him coming out, just never had enough reps. Never, never had enough reps in college of passing the ball, really having the offense on his back. So ton of unknown, you know. Koc, how can you not trust this guy? He made Sam Darnold and $100 Million quarterback into a playoff caliber quarterback. So yeah, to me, worst draft in division. Just because they had no fucking picks, man. They had pick 24, take a guard. Great. Now they don't pick till 102 like that. That's really tough. So yeah, that they mortgage the future. They got the quarterback from last year. Like you said, it's. They're not. They don't care if they win this year. This is all about setting up the next two to three to four years so that, that from my standpoint, I'm with you. I like they win. Guard, receiver, nice way to start it. But yeah, this, this to me was a nothing draft for Minnesota.
Chad Millman
Chicago Bears +450. There it is, there it is, there it. Look, they sucker us every year. They truly do.
Simon Hunter
They do.
Chad Millman
They really do. And so you know, credit to Ryan polls and the front office who win the off season so cons that we cannot help ourselves but pull the trigger.
Simon Hunter
Well, we were negative last year smartly. We were all over Detroit divisionally and we were on the Bears under win total.
Chad Millman
So that's true.
Simon Hunter
We're back on this year though.
Chad Millman
We're so back on. I love the Loveland pick. You know, I'm all in on him being Sam LaPorta part two for Ben Johnson. Luther Burden who going into the season like a lot of people thought he might be the best receiver in the draft. So the fact that he dropped to the second round for the Bears and they got him and then they drafted an offensive lineman, a 6, 8 dude from Boston College.
Simon Hunter
Yeah.
Chad Millman
Who, like, will help solidify the offensive line. That was a real issue, obviously for Caleb because he was sacked so many times last year. Partially his fault. He should let the ball go sooner. We're going to work on that. But they need defensive line help and they kind of ignored it and just said we need to do everything we can to maximize the opportunity for Caleb Williams to be successful. Recognizing how important and how good the other quarterbacks are in their division, in their and in their conference. They need him to be great. Week one, this is the best opportunity to do that. So I'm all in.
Simon Hunter
Yeah. They also made a deal. The Devil and Ben Johnson, they gave him a ton of money. And you can see in this draft that they let his imprint be known on this team. And I love the pick. With Loveland, you know, I really thought they couldn't go wrong. Him or Warner, you know, the kid out of Penn State. Both. Both great tight ends. Loveland's a freak. This kid could be Gronk or like you said, Sam Laporta. That's. That's the ceiling. You know, the fact that they get this kid out of Mizzou in the next round and where it's like, like Chad said, he's predicted to be a first rounder. Steve Smith loves this kid. Like, can't stop raving about him. And then, you know, it's not the sexiest pick. But I like this kid Turner you got as an edge. I think he has some really high upside. So overall, to me, the Bears, their first four picks really knocked it out of the park. And yeah, I just, I have so much faith in Ben Johnson, even if I don't really trust your. Your general manager totally. I really do trust Ben Johnson and his vision for building this team how he wants to. And you can immediately see his imprint on this team right from this get go with this draft.
Chad Millman
I'm glad we're in agreement. I didn't want to be like having to push you into the Bears.
Simon Hunter
No, no, I'm in.
Chad Millman
