I'll get to that in about 30 seconds. In the NFL, it is Halloween. J. Mac is going as Austin Reeves. I I am going as America's honesty broker. That's where we are on a Friday. So we've got breaking news, J. Mac. Last night the Ravens thumped the Miami Dolph. Who cares? We knew they were going to do that. This morning the Dolphins started the rebuild. This is smart. It's a three step process. Number one, they just fired Chris Greer, the GM smart. They also announced they're going to keep Mike McDaniel for the rest of the year. Very smart. Don't put an interim guy in who reels off four or five wins and everybody goes, I'll hire the interim. Okay, don't do that. You know what Miami's got to do next? Go hire Lane Kiffin. Everything about Miami's empty calories last night. Time of possession, yards, first downs. Miami as many as Baltimore and they got blown out. They got no alpha. They got no culture. Mike McDaniel's a great offensive coach. Ah, come on. I'll get the TUA later. Here's why you go higher. Lane Kiffin, number one offense in college football last several years. Half the SEC quarterbacks this year, all that first round draft quarterbacks everybody's talking about What a great quarterback draft it's going to be. Four of the eight best quarterbacks are from the sec. Lane recruited him, Lane faced him. Lanes looked at film of them. Nobody knows the SEC quarterbacks better than the current best offensive coach. So you get all the Mike McDaniel innovation. But you get an alpha. He played the position. He's a guy's guy. He's got an attitude. That's what Miami lacks. They got a smart guy in the building. They got no culture. They got nothing. They're flimsy. It's empty calories. Last night, you look at the yards, you. You look at a lot of the box score, you're like, I must have been a close game. And just all empty calories. And by the way, for college coaches now, it used to be college looked one way, the NFL looked another way. But now college coaches like Kiffin, they have free agency. It's called the transfer portal. They pay the players. So Lane Kiffin. And Ole Miss doesn't have a great football program. They're good with Kiffin. They've led college football and offense. The NFL is an offensive league. He has been a CEO. Because in the NFL, you want your coach to be a CEO. Everybody's always like, get the GM first, then the coach. Nonsense. Chargers got Harbaugh first. A week later, they hire the gm. Go get Lane Kiffin. At the end of the year, Kiffin can keep bouncing around Florida, lsu, Ole Miss. It's college football. Take a big swing. Lane Kiffin, take a big swing. College coaches like Harbaugh, they are CEOs. They got the transfer portal, the Nil. It's all different now. It used to be college coach. He went to high schools. Belichick now coaches college. He just write a check to get guys. So college and NFL is much more similar in style. This isn't about to that. Ship has sailed. They got a clean house. I would. I would move off to. I would move off the coach. I would move off the gm. Do not put an interim coach in there. Do not do it. Because the guy reels off five out of six wins. And everybody in Miami is like, oh, my God. That's how the Raiders, you know, Antonio Pierce, you get hot, you win a couple games. It's the substitute teacher rule. Everybody's great to the substitute teacher. That's not what you do. So you want the innovation. What does Miami have? Innovation. Don't lose the innovation with Lane Kiffin, you keep the innovation. And the other thing is, I don't this idea that the GM Selects the coach and the GM selects the quarterback. I got news for you, Lane. Kiffin knows the quarterbacks in the SEC better than any gm. Season ends. Write a check, get Kiffin. Let Kiffin make sure he likes the gm. I'd have Kiffin pick the quarterback, then have the GM pick everybody else. Remember, folks, I know a lot of these GMs. I think they're really good. I think they're nice guys. They're smart. Half of them like TUA more than Justin Herbert. Half of them. I mean, when. When Justin Herbert walks into a room, 6, 6, good looking, strapping guy, 4 2. Biology major, howitzer for an arm. Tua walks into a room, it's like, are you working Accounting? Certain guys look like pro athletes. Half the GMs wanted Tua in the AFC where the best teams are like, you know, Baltimore, Kansas City, when Burl's healthy. Cincinnati, it's going to be New England. TUA in the afc. What are we doing? So I think. I think this is the way to do it. Now, Mike McDaniel, after getting blown out. This was not about Baltimore last night. I told you yesterday. They're going to win. They're going to win comfortably. Lamar Jackson's back. They're going to reel off six straight wins or thereabouts. We knew they were going to win that game. This is about Miami. GM's out. They're going to keep smartly, keep the coach to the end. And I got nothing against Mike McDaniel. I think he's smart. I'd hire him in a New York minute to be my coordinator. He's not a head coach here. He is after. Listen, the bottom line is you have to cross your T's and dot your I's in the International Football League or, Or you get made pay. So there's. It's a very, very disappointing. These are the things that will constantly occur in the National Football League. You won't like the results. No. Presence. Absolutely. Dan Campbell hit you like a strong drink. Mike Vrabel, intimidating. You know, like Sean McVeigh walks to the podium. He's. He looks and feels like he's six, eight. Horrible. Presence. Presence. I said this about Kiffin. Kiffin can be snarky. He can be a smart Alec. Oh, you offend the donors. You offend the athletic director. Yeah. Get out of that world. I love college football. Get out of that space. Just deal with one owner. You know, you got to deal sometimes. You know, Miami actually isn't that impulsive. Miami, you know, they gave Mike McDaniel a long Runway. I mean, they gave Chris Greer a decade plus to be a gm, and I don't think he's very good. I got nothing against him. But if you have two as a quarterback, you have to have a good backup quarterback and a great O line. They have neither. So a lot of these GMs, you don't major at GM in college. You're a scout. You work your way up. I mean, I First step, GM's out. Second step, Keith McDaniel. Third step, get Lane Kiffin, let him choose the GM. Because these quarterbacks in the SEC, the eight best quarterbacks going into the draft for Kiffin's either recruited him, faced him, watched film on them. All right, Secondly, Mahomes and Josh Allen faced this weekend again. They faced nine times. Mahomes has won five, Allen's won four. So when these guys came into the NFL, they had a lot in common. Both came. They didn't win a lot in college. They both went to small markets, Kansas City, Buffalo. Both the teams had coaches that had led their team in a previous season to the playoffs. Both are insanely gifted. Are two most gifted quarterbacks. They played nine times, and there have been wild shootouts. The difference to me is that Mahomes has the best offensive coach in league history. Bill Walsh is the only other one in the running. And Josh Allen has a very good coach. And I last year when these teams played, remember that tush push thing Buffalo tried to do? And it looked unorganized. Remember that? It looked like they just told Josh Allen, hey, Josh, you're six. Six. Just reach the ball over and get a first down. And that's the difference. I believe if Josh Allen gets Andy Reid and Mahomes gets McDermott, they both win a ton. But somebody else has the trophies. I really believe that Kansas City, when they played Buffalo last year, we're better on third down. We're perfect on fourth down. Outscored Buffalo in the fourth quarter. Mahomes and Reed do not beat you in the opening drive. They beat you late. When Brady and Belichick were running around winning super bowl after super bowl, they weren't blowing people out. They dominated the Rams. But every other Super Bowl Belichick and Brady were in were won or lost on one possession. The colder the weather gets, the later it gets. In the season past Thanksgiving, small becomes big. The minutiae matters a ton. Situational football is the key to all of it. Again, when the weather's warm, Tua looks like a Pro Bowler. When the weather's warm at 72 degrees and everybody's healthy and comfortable. That's not what the NFL is. The NFL is December. Half your defense is banged up, three or four guys on the ir, the weather stinks, it's cold, and the games come down to inches, not feet, feet, not yards. And so to me, I look at McDermott, I think he's a very good coach. I look at Andy Reid, as the league gets pivoted to offense, as the greatest offensive coach, along with Bill Walsh of all time. And so the meetings are always superb. They're the two most gifted guys that have played the position in a long time and perhaps ever. And here's Josh Allen ahead of the matchup this weekend. I think we've played them, I mean, damn near every year since I've gotten here. So, yeah, I mean, I guess you can look at it from a perspective. Perspective of we kind of understand what they try to do to us, you know, but there's, there's jabs, there's counters, you know, there's, there's different things that you can do throughout seeing each other, throughout the years of making things look the same, but being completely different. I like Kansas City. I think it's competitive. Later this hour, I do this for the biggest games every year. 10 best players, generally speaking, whoever has the majority of the 10 best players wins the game. That's been the rule going forward. So I'll give you, before the end of this hour, the 10 best players in this game. J. Mack, not a shock. Lamar's back. They roll on the road, which, by the way, standalone Thursday night games on the road can be really tough for the visiting team. That was not the case. So Chris Greer and I don't root for people to get fired, but if you have a job 10 plus years and I still don't know if you're any good at it, it's time to move off him. And I would keep McDaniel in for the rest of the season. The worst thing you can do, you bring in an interim coach early halfway through the season, he reels off a four game winning streak. Everybody's like, you got to give that guy the job that the interim coaches almost never work. Yeah. Would they have three turnovers? 0 for 3 in the red zone. They just looked inept. I mean, that's the word that keeps coming to mind. Like tua just didn't look particularly sharp. I know Dolphins fans are upset about the tripping call that wiped out the 50 yard play early, but Baltimore is a better team. I think the real Question, Colin is just how hot can Baltimore get? I mean, would you be shocked if they were in the AFC title game? No, I would. I wouldn't. I'm not so sure the best team. I think Kansas City is the best team. There's arguments. The next four teams I like are NFC teams. So I do think Kansas City has separated a little bit now that they feel like their own line in their run game. Are getting more in sync now. Six weeks ago I would have taken Buffalo in this game. I mean that, you know, this is just the way it works in the NFL. Detroit got blasted in week one. Detroit today looks fantastic. So I like Kansas City. I think it's close. I don't think it's. It's down to the last play. I'll take the Chiefs by about a touchdown. I think it's a high scoring game. The weather's good in Buffalo. Interesting. And when Allen and Mahomes face each other, they both got really good offensive lines. There's points. I think it'll be great television. What about the familiarity though? I mean, these guys at this point, we know what the other tendencies are. We know what Spags is going to do. We know the Bills are probably going to try a lot of Josh Allen runs. You sure you don't like the under here? No, I think, you know, preparation is overrated. People had forever to prepare for Peyton Manning. How effective was it? He beats every time. Preparation's good for B players. Preparation doesn't really matter for superstars. They get theirs. I sat down with Bernie Sanders, who is 84 years old, has spent 34 years in Congress and he can still pack a rally with people a quarter of his age. Denver, 34,000 people come out. Salt Lake City, 20,000 people. You know, huge turnouts. People are really dissatisfied about the status quo. His fighting oligarchy tour with AOC and other young progressives has become a movement. But is his message too far to the left? Well, he certainly doesn't think so. Does that sound like a radical idea? Is that too far left for you? Okay, okay, I get your point, Bernie. We talk about the billionaire class, the cost of living, and of course, the government shutdown, not to mention the current state of the Democratic Party. To me, the failure of the Democratic Party has been an unwillingness to recognize the real issues. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search next question with Katie Couric. And listen now. Ancient Athenians used to scratch names onto oyster shells, and they called these ostracon to vote politicians into exile. So our word ostracized is related to the word oyster. No way. Bring back the ostercon. And because we've got a very mi casa esucasa kind of vibe on our show, friends always stop by. Pretty much every entry into this side of the planet was through the El Golf of Mexico. No, the America. No, the America. El Golfo de Mexico. Continuing Haciendasi forever and ever. It blows me away how progressive Mexico was in this. In this moment. They had land reform, they had labor rights, they had education rights. Mustard seeds were so valuable to the ancient Egyptians that they used to place them in their tombs for the afterlife. I haven't quite decided what I'm gonna give the kids tonight at the cowherd. GR Notebooks produce. No, no. Got a few hours to make that call. So. I was never a big TUA fan. I think he's fine. I thought the Drew Brees comp. Come on. You know, that's. That's an insane comps. Like giving Brady is a comp. All time. Guys aren't comps. They're icons. All right, so la last night, there's a play at the end of the half, and this sums it up. He basically quits on a play because he can't do anything. He has no escapability. He doesn't have a big arm. He has acknowledged he can't see over the line. So at the end of the half, you can roll the tape, he goes back here. You think Josh Allen would have ended the half like this? No. He would heave the ball down the field or Mahomes, he surrenders. I mean, and that's because he has to. I mean, that. That's kind of what it is. He's a small quarterback without a big arm with no escapability. And that's what he does. That play doesn't look like that if Lamar, Josh, or Mahomes are the quarterback or Matt Stafford, who doesn't have mobility. So a couple of weeks ago against Cleveland, it was rainy and windy. It wasn't that cold, but it was ugly weather. Rainy and windy in Cleveland. And I saw two different times he had zero touchdowns, three picks, 100 passing yards. But what I noticed during the game is he didn't want to get hit. He did not want to get hit. He was letting go of that ball. He just get. Look at that. Get me out of here. It was like a little kid playing with big brothers. I don't have any interest getting hit. And I'm sorry, but that's the kind of weather. Wet, rainy, Cleveland. That's AFC weather. You gotta be A big, tough alpha in the afc. That's why Joe Flacco ages so well in the afc. Why? Big tough alpha presence. And this season, if you look at to his numbers, they have regressed badly. And I think part of it is psychological. He doesn't trust the staff, he doesn't trust the O line. I wouldn't either. And he didn't want to get hit, so. And it's not a shock. He was from Hawaii, he played at Bama, now he's in Miami. He doesn't like the cold weather. So trust your eyes. Listen, Denver showed you you can move off a quarterback and have all sorts of dead cat money. The key is get the quarterback right in the first round of the draft like Denver did with Bo Nixon. And a dead cap. Money doesn't have that. I mean, look at Denver's roster. Right now they're still paying Russell Wilson. Denver's got a top four or five roster and they're still paying Russell Wilson. So listen, if you look at slightly uncomfortable weather under 60 degrees, 2 is 4 and 13, so 59. You know, I used to joke about Brock Purdy. It's overcast. I don't know, like in the NFL, especially the afc. Big, strong, tough. That's what you need. You're going and playing Baltimore now. New England's good again. So now I got to go to Foxborough in January with one of Mike Vrabel's alpha teams and physical teams. So now New England's back to being great, Baltimore's great, Buffalo's great, Kansas City's great. And if Burrow stays healthy, Cincinnati's great. I mean, yeah, I mean even Denver late in the season, Mile High City snows up there, so it just never worked for me. Here's Tua explaining that end of the half play, you're trying to buy as much time to allow those guys to get down there and then for yourself as well, you, you know, you got to try to maneuver the pocket and then get a, get a clean hitch or crow hop to be able to throw that. So that's when like I wasn't even looking at the guys running down there. You know, I was, I was kind of trying to maneuver the pocket and then if the pocket allowed, then I was going to be able to launch one. But you know, it happens. For the record, the Dolphins have agreed to part ways with the gm. Next up, find a coach. After that draft a quarterback. And for the top eight quarterbacks are from the sec. Nobody knows those quarterbacks and offense better than Lane Kiffin. My opening rant today. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the Herd line news. What's a better job, The Dolphins or lsu? Well, I mean, NFL jobs. It's. I mean, if I don't have to deal with an ad, if I don't have to deal with donors, if I don't have to deal with parents, you have to deal with Josh Allen and Drake May. Yeah, that's the NFL. Every league's got obstacles, 100%. All right, let's start with the Dallas Cowboys. Con and Jerry Jones. He made some comments this week that had some Cowboys fans a little upset. He told the Wall street journal, there's 100 billion present value with gas out there. That's why I'm talking to you on the phone rather than trying to fix our defense with the Dallas Cowboys. Yeah. Not great, being a fan and you just read that or hear that. Yeah, of course. Especially. Right. As as many fans are and do and thankful that they do live and breathe by this team. And the guy's never really lied about who he is or what he's trying to do. And I think right there just. I mean, hopefully he was talking about in that one particular moment, you know, maybe in those five minutes, this is what he was alluding to. And having a chance at $100 billion opportunity. I think he might take five minutes as well and go. And go answer a call. So hopefully that's what he means. Right? Yeah. I mean, I think once again, Dak, the high iq, high EQ intangible guy, brings down the temperature of a situation that I'm sure was all over talk radio in Dallas for the last 36 hours. Dak is the cooler. He comes in, makes a very reasonable, rational explanation. We talk for five minutes about $100 billion industry. And that's what. That's part of DAX, greatness. This is a normal, noisy franchise. He always brings the temperature down smartly. That is the perfect answer for your quarterback. It's a good answer. The reality, of course, is a billionaire is not spending five minutes on the phone call. He's prepping for the phone call. He's thinking about what they talk about. It's. I mean, let's be real, like, you know, the guy's a billionaire. He's not as focused on the Cowboys. Otherwise, they'd be better. He would have maybe gotten the Dak deal done earlier, would have been able to keep Micah Parsons. Now they're up the creek without a paddle. Colin, I don't see a path to victory for them. Now maybe they beat the Cardinals and they get back in the wild card actually blazing 5. Top of the next hour. The Bears and the Cowboys both have very favorable numbers in their, in their direction this weekend. Although I should note Kyler Murray is practicing. It looks like he'll be back. Not a lot that he's back. If Kyler Murray's in, it's a good game. If not, you know, Enjoy Monday. Let's move on to Jackson, Jackson Dart and the New York Giants. Colin, I'm close to admitting I was wrong about Jackson Dart. I did not think he would be this effective. He's almost got a thousand yards, throwing eight total touchdowns and four on the ground, which is impressive. Here's Robert Salah recognizing that the Giants may have found something in Dart. He is uber talented. I understand why day ball went to the blue tent. I probably would have went too. I mean kids could. Good man. He's a really, really, really good kid. I think New York hit on this one big time. But he's, he's dynamic, he's decisive, he's accurate. He's been a joy to watch over these. Just studying his tape over the last. He's been what, five starts now, so. And they're doing a really good job with him, by the way. Robert Sala presence, the look, the deep voice. Robert Sala should get another head coaching job. I really believe that a lot of people have left the jets and flourished. But my takeaway on listening to Mike McDaniels after a game and Robert Sala before a game. Which guy has presence? Which guy do you think can lead men through a tunnel? I mean he, he was a leader with the Jets. They just didn't win any games. He didn't have a quarterback. It was a disaster. Roger stunk. Hey, real quick, do you think Jackson Dart wins rookie of the Year? Because I remember draft night. There was a lot of laughter. Well, wait, wait. According to some shops, he's the current favorite. Colin, Travis Hunter just went on IR this morning. Total disaster. Keep your eye on the wide receiver in Tampa Buka. Okay, yes. He has the second best odds followed by Tyler Warren and then T. Mac in Carolina. I would go ebuka and warren 1, 2. Well, Ibuka has been a little dinged up. He hasn't been 100%. So he's had some big high profile games. Dirt just doesn't have wins. But I don't know man. Dart's actually been way better than I thought he would be. And now he has no weapons like no neighbors now scatter. Boo's out. If he's able to do something and win this game, I think he takes a clear lead. He's currently a slight favor, but I think he takes a clear lead. Tyler Warren would probably be my second choice. Don't you think he's been a driving force for the Colts? I would say receiver over tight end in terms of value and importance, but I would go with Ibuka and Warren. Yeah. Okay, final story. Collins. The Detroit Lions, obviously they got a big game against the Minnesota Vikings. They've kind of owned Kevin O' Connell in the last three. At home, Detroit will face JJ McCarthy and it sounds like Christian Derrisau may not play. He sat out practice yesterday. That's your left tackle down against Aiden Hutchison. Oh, boy, here we go. Talking about the Lions and Jared Goff. That's their whole thing. They want to penetrate, they want to get in the backfield, they want to get, you know, typically five or six guys rushing, one on ones on everybody. In that case, they run some pick games, they run some stunts, they do a little bit of everything and they want to disrupt your timing and get in the backfield. And it's up to us up front and to me to get the ball out and do everything right. Yeah. So this, this Vikings defense under Brian Flores was really good last year. They have not been good this year. We know what they want to do. Their back end is terrible, so the blitz is not effective. It's also much harder. Again, contextualized. Why was the defense better last year? Because the defense, the offense had a lead and the defense could pin their ears back. So this is all complimentary football. Well, Kevin. Kevin o' Connell doesn't know what he's doing. No, he doesn't. Have quarterback Brian Flores defense, they're on the field too long, right. Defensive players get hurt. All complimentary football. If you don't get the quarterback right. Everybody looks stupid in the NFL. These are great. It's a great coaching staff. Thank God the Niners, Sala and Shanahan have Mack Jones as a backup. Otherwise we'd be like, oh, Sal is a disaster. Well, Sala has a quarterback in Mac Jones on the other side of the offense for the Niners that can win time of possession. That can. That can get the ball into the end zone. So this is a. Minnesota's fine. You gotta cross your fingers if J.J. mcCarthy hits and they'll be fine. There you go, J. Mac with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by the herd Lie news. You know what? I was going to talk about the Dodgers for a second, but since we're talking about the Minnesota Vikings, I actually, I believe this to be true. So I saw this story today where there was an underlying tension surrounding the Vikings. J.J. mcCarthy in the building. There's an underlying tension and what I'm about to say I absolutely believe is true. The Minnesota Vikings this year are the Indianapolis Colts. Last year, the roster was excellent. O line weapons head coach. The Colts just needed a quarterback. The Indianapolis media the last two years has been banging on the Colts organization. You didn't have a quarterback. Once you get the alpha to quarterback, it changes everything. But if you don't, you look incompetent. Quarterback is the stake. You can have a great. You go to a restaurant, the vino is good. The sides are amazing. Bathrooms are clean. I mean, it's just the. The apps are unbelievable. The dessert, super steak stinks. Bad experience. It doesn't matter if the steak's bad. I don't care about the sides, the vino and the wait staff or the ambiance. Steak bad night, Bad in the NFL. Minnesota and the Colts roster like the gm, excellent offensive coach, quarterbacks bad. Everybody looks incompetent. That is the NFL. And I will pay for both a great stake and a great quarterback. Don't go cheap. Want to save money? Do it on your paper towels, okay? Don't do it on your steak. Don't do it on your quarterback. I mean, you've gone to a restaurant before. A steakhouse can get everything right. The steak is burnt too raw, just not very good. Ruins the night. I like. I like Brussels sprouts as much as the next guy. I like that espresso at the end of the night, too. Got to get the steak right. And so when I see the Vikings and now everybody, oh, Brian Flores over Kevin o'. Connell, I don't like his play call. You know, we don't talk a lot of play calling when you have Justin Herbert or Jordan Love. We don't talk about the packers play calling much the last 30 years. Favre, Rodgers, Jordan Love. You don't. But you're under a microscope to begin with in this league. If the quarterback doesn't work, everybody in the building. I mean, you're literally going home telling your wife, we may have to put the house up for sale. Pay for the right stake, pay for the right quarterback. So my fingers are crossed because I love Kevin o'. Connell. I think he's great. I mean, go look at Sean mcvan la when Matt Stafford's gotten dinged up. Couple times. Matt Stafford's missed games. Boy genius. Where'd he go? Is it an imposter? McVeigh's play calling. It's very iffy in an Stafford. So nobody looks good with incompetent backups or reckless players on the field. Oh, so I do this every time. There's what we consider like two or three times a football. On the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric. Does that sound like a radical idea, Judy? Is that too far left for you? Okay, okay, wait, wait. I get your point, Bernie. We talk about the billionaire class, the cost of living, and of course, the government shutdown, not to mention the current state of the Democratic Party. To me, the failure of the Democratic Party has been an unwillingness to recognize the real issues. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search next question with Katie Couric and listen now. Ancient Athenians used to scratch names onto oyster shells and they called these ostrakon to vote politicians into exile. So our word ostracize is related to the word oyster. No way. Bring back the ostracon. And because we've got a very mi casa es su casa kind of vibe on our show, friends always stop by. Pretty much every entry into this side of the planet was through the El Golfo de Mexico. No, the America. No, the America. El Golfo de Mexico. Continual forever and ever. It blows me away how progressive Mexico was in this moment. They had land reform, they had labor rights, they had education rights. Mustard seeds were so valuable to the ancient Egyptians that they used to place them in their tombs for the afterlife. If a game is gonna be close between two iconic quarterbacks or two great franchi franchises, we write down the 10 best players in the game in order 1 through 10, 10 through 1. Generally, whoever's got the most good players wins the game. We'll do that with the Bills and the Chiefs coming up. Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd, weekdays at noon Eastern, 9am Pacific. Tonight it's Game 6 of the World Series as Vlad Jr. In the Blue Jays are one win away from their first title in 32 years, while Shohei and the Dodgers look to force a winner take all. Game seven coverage begins at 7:00pm Eastern, 4:00pm Pacific on Fox. I like the Dodgers. Tonight they're throwing Yoshi. He's been unbelievable. He's our true ace. Didn't miss the start this year. So listen, I tend to think the difference between the Chiefs and the Bills has not been quarterback. I think situationally in close games, I think I'd take Andy Reid over virtually everybody in the league. Bill Walsh is the only coach. I mean, Sean Payton's obviously great offensively, but I just think Andy in those, those circumstances. Fourth down Big third down red zone stuff. And that's where these games are decided. It's the GMs are both more than competent. I do like the Chiefs roster more than the Bills, but the Bill's got a lot of good players and so it's good organizations, good ownership and I think the games are always close. They've played nine times, Mahomes has won five. Allen's done very well in the regular season. You know, Mahomes has done better in the in the postseason. We all know that. So let's here are in my opinion the 10 best players in order. We'll start with number 10 and that would be Joey Bosa of the Buffalo Bills. Leads him in sacks and quarterback hits and pressures. He is the highest graded Bills defenser. Bill's defender this season according to pff. Number nine, Drew Tranquil, Chiefs highest graded Chiefs defender this season. When that guy gets his hands on you, he doesn't miss a tackle. 368 total defensive snaps this year he's missed one tackle. Number eight, Rashid Rice. Three touchdowns in two games. When Mahomes targets Rice in his career, his 127 passer rating, he is an absolute number one. Needs to improve with maturity, but he's a dude. Rashid Rice at eight. Number seven, Dion Dawkins. Left tackle, Pro Bowler again four straight pole bolt Pro Bowls has not allowed a quarterback hit a hit on 260 snaps this year. Top four left tackle in the NFL, Dion Dawkins. Number six, Travis Kelsey. Only tight end in league history. 90 plus catches seven straight seasons. Oh, by the way, he's led Kansas City in receiving yards. Leads him right now, three straight seasons. You guys keep telling me Travis Kelsey is wild washed. He keeps leading them in receptions in those big games. I don't know. I watched the Chief's last game. It doesn't look washed to me. Number five, Chris Jones. He plays a position where there are very few men that can do what he can do. Six straight Pro Bowls. Leads all interior linemen in sacks the last four seasons. I don't think he's having a great year. But again, Chris Jones is like Kelsey in these big spots. Never be surprised when he delivers, especially late in games. Number four, James Cook. Career high last week, 216 yards against the Panthers. This is the number one rush offense in the NFL and it's pretty simple. Much like Saquon in the Eagles when he rushes for over a hundred yards. The Bills are 50 this season, so they're a lot closer to Philadelphia than you think. They're, they're, they're driven by the run. Not Josh Allen. Even though Josh Allen will run more this week because he always does when they face spags in the Kansas City defense. Number three, probably the best center in football. Creed Humphrey. Highest rated player anywhere, including Mahomes. The Chiefs have now he's a center so he's not as valuable as an edge rusher or a Chris Jones or a quarterback. But this year, 354 times he's had to pass block. Zero sacks allowed. Probably now the best center in the NFL, Creed Humphrey. Number two, reigning MVP Josh Allen. Number three on the NFL's top 100 players of 2025. What can I say that hasn't been said. Only thing missing is a trophy. Other than that perfect quarterback. Number one favorite doing this year's mvp Patrick Mahomes leads the NFL in total touchdowns, second and total yards. Nobody makes C and B receivers look like a receivers. Nobody has that cognitive strength, spatial awareness, sees it, lets it rip accurately, accurately better than Patrick Mahomes. As good as we've ever had at the position. Now Ed Oliver would be on this list, but he's not available. So let's count him up. Six chiefs, four bills. Number 11 would probably be Oliver. Even banged up Trent McDuffie be up there as well. So both McDuffie and Oliver are the next guy. I feel there is a slight edge Chiefs roster. I think they have more weapons. Offensively the Bills run better. I think they're. And that has real value if you can keep Mahomes on the sideline. Real value. That's the way to beat Mahomes is have a good run game and now hasn't helped Baltimore. That's the way to beat him in big games. Of course nobody beats him in big games much, but that's the way to do it. Yeah, I and a lot of this stuff like you could argue right now Creed Humphreys the best player in terms of his position. But his positional value does not hold up to a quarterback or maybe an edge rusher. What I do think is funny is Travis Kelsey and maybe it's the Taylor Swift factor. You know everybody's like well you know that guy is once again leading the Chiefs in catches. Also unlike the smaller wide receivers for Kansas City, Travis Kelsey is asked to block And I also think there is something to be said. There's a certain radar that Mahomes and Kelsey have in big spots. It Brady and Gronk absolutely had this. Brady just knew he could look over at Gronk and there was this kind of unwritten wavelength that they're like, okay, it's the coverage. We thought, you know what to do. And I think you develop that, you know, Philip Rivers maybe with Antonio Gates, you know, you got, you got a tight end you like or a big target you like for five or six or seven years. And it's a big third down. You look over at him and you kind of just know it's the matchup we like. So I think Kelsey in these big games with Mahomes is invaluable. I my only beef is you didn't move the Chiefs to the top of the herd hierarchy until Rasheed Rice came back. I don't think there's any way, if you ask the Bills, hey, who are you guys scared of, Rasheed Rice or Travis Kelsey coming into this game, they would definitely say Rice. So I would put Rice ahead of Kelsey. And the other thing, you know, Greg Russo is an edge rusher for the Bills. He doesn't have eye popping sack numbers, but he is an awesome player off the edge. I would have him in over Drew Tranquil, who's a good, solid linebacker. He's having a good year, but I don't think he's great. I like James Cook's matchup against him a lot this weekend, so I would have it 5. 5. But you know, I'm allegedly a Chiefs hater, so. Allegedly. I don't think you have to take a big stretch to come up with that opinion. A lot of it's fact based, some of it opinion. But yeah, largely. I think this is probably the big biggest matchup of the season to date. Yeah, I just think you're underselling the home field advantage and how the Bills usually wreck them in the regular season. You know what's really interesting is that and I talked about this earlier, so you know, we talk about all the time in all these businesses. You want to be about a year to a year ahead of the curve on what's happening and what's nobody's really paying attention to. So New England's now going to be legit with Drake, May and Vrabel for several years. So think about this. I was just texting a GM about the Miami Dolphins GM opening and think about this. So New England, we all know that football's decided Thanksgiving on think about now the AFC because the nfc, you've got dome L. A, you've got dome Detroit. Now Green Bay's got cold weather, but there are some friendly environments, right? San Francisco's not brutal winter weather. You look at the AFC now. New England's back. You spent any time in Foxborough in December and January? No. So look at the next five, six years in the afc. If you're Miami and you have to draft a quarterback. New England, Baltimore, Buffalo, Kansas City and Joe Burrows back. Cincinnati, oh. Every single big game in the AFC will be an awful weather. So Miami, you just fired your gm. You're going to get a coach of all these college quarterbacks. So there's going to be like up to eight guys that will be considered for. Yeah, no, that's what I'm hearing up now. That doesn't mean eight will get drafted in the first round. Eight are going to be considered. Okay, It'll probably be a five and three. Three will go to the second round. But there are guys that are more equipped to throw in lousy weather. And that's what you have to have. Miami drafts like they're a warm weather team and they play in the sec. That's not the case. Now comes the cold weather. So the AFC is shaping up with Vrabel and the Patriots emergence. Here we go. This is why I always said this about Tom Brady. J. Mac Brady is the best crappy weather thrower I've ever seen. I remember a throw Brady made here in Chicago up the left sideline before half. Terrible weather. It was a freaking. The L train. It was a bullet. And I'm like, that is a skill. By the way, I'm getting a text here from a J. Harbaugh who says, tell Colin it's sunny in January in Los Angeles. Don't rule out the Chargers. Listen, you love Herbert, but you love Harbaugh. But Denver's got cold weather. Denver and you gotta win your division to get home playoff games. Chargers will make the playoffs. Are they gonna win the division and get a home game? I don't think they. The Toyota Certified Used Vehicle Sales event is here. It is packed with great surprises. Date: October 31, 2025
Podcast: The Herd with Colin Cowherd – iHeartPodcasts and The Volume
In this packed hour, Colin Cowherd reacts to breaking news out of Miami as the Dolphins initiate a franchise reset, firing their GM after another blowout loss to Baltimore. He proposes bold moves for Miami’s future and dives deep on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s limitations. Colin and J. Mac debate the ever-widening chasm between top AFC contenders ahead of the Chiefs-Bills showdown, and examine what’s gone wrong in Minnesota—making pointed observations about NFL leadership, roster construction, and the unrelenting importance of quarterback play.
(03:00 – 17:20)
“Take a big swing. Lane Kiffin, take a big swing.” (06:30)
“Half of these GMs liked Tua more than Justin Herbert! … When Justin Herbert walks into a room — 6’6”, good looking, strapping guy … Tua walks in and it’s like, are you working accounting?” (09:15)
(43:35 – 49:20)
"He was from Hawaii, he played at Bama, now he’s in Miami. He doesn’t like the cold weather." (46:00)
“You’re trying to buy as much time to allow those guys to get down there, and then for yourself as well … if the pocket allowed, then I was going to be able to launch one. But, you know, it happens.” (48:35)
(17:30 – 29:45; 80:20 – 89:00)
“If Josh Allen gets Andy Reid and Mahomes gets McDermott, they both win a ton. But somebody else has the trophies.”
“They beat you late. … When the weather gets colder, the minutiae matters a ton. Situational football is the key to all of it. … That’s what the NFL is—December football.” (23:00)

(50:00 – 56:45)
“If you don’t get the quarterback right, everybody looks stupid in the NFL. These are great coaching staffs.” (56:30)
(89:10 – 94:00)
“Every single big game in the AFC will be in awful weather. … There are guys more equipped to throw in lousy weather, and that’s what you have to have.” (91:30) “This is why I always said this about Tom Brady … best crappy weather thrower I’ve ever seen.” (92:00)
"Miami’s got a smart guy in the building. They got no culture. … It’s empty calories." — Colin (06:03)
“He’s a small quarterback without a big arm with no escapability. … That play doesn’t look like that if Lamar, Josh [Allen], or Mahomes are the quarterback." — Colin (44:05)
"If you don’t get the quarterback right, everybody looks stupid in the NFL." — Colin (56:30)
“I just think Andy in those circumstances—4th down, big 3rd down, red zone stuff— that’s where these games are decided.” — Colin (81:40)
This hour covers breaking franchise news, the existential issues facing both Miami and Minnesota, and sets the scene for one of the NFL’s premier matchups. Colin argues you cannot win in today’s NFL without presence—either in the coach or at quarterback. GMs, coaches, even great rosters are rendered useless without the right leader under center, especially in the cold, hard reality of AFC football. And as the league’s balance of power shifts, teams like Miami must recalibrate not just for skill, but for resilience and the elements ahead.
