here we go it's hour two we're live j mac in la me in chicago it's the herd you know i was my least favorite event in america is the met gala they do it every year it's it's the least relatable moment in america it's just i look at it and i think oh you couldn't pay me but i'm not an artist so whatever but it made me somebody asked meryl streep why she wasn't there and somebody asked meryl streep who's probably the greatest actress actor in my life they asked her are you not going are you protesting jeff bezos and she said no met gala is just not my vibe and i i've never loved meryl streep more but she's been nominated more than any actor ever oscar nominated and she's also has nine movies that have lower than a fifty percent positive rating on rotten tomatoes and and you know whatever you think of that i kind of trust it not necessarily the point is the longer you do something even if you're meryl streep great or lebron you're gonna get criticism and basketball players and pro athletes are artists and you're not coming out of this thing alive or unscathed and you know rich paul who's represented lebron forever was talking about the fact that literally sometimes you know clients he'll try to get clients and they don't want to go with him because he represents lebron which sounds outrageous but here he is

lose yeah it's crazy to me i mean think about lebron comes into the nba as a kid and his big missteps in twenty three years are he broke up with the cavaliers on tv although he gave a million dollars to the boys and girls club in connecticut that was a big one i guess it freaked people out the the tweet ripping daryl morey for defending protesters in china again it's it's twitter that apparently got people worked up and then you know the lakers drafted bronnie was it heavy handed by rich paul lebron i defended it cause it was a horrible draft it was middle to late second round and bronny's a good kid who works his butt off i actually know a couple people that know bronnie he's a really good kid he works really hard again i can't lose sleep over all this stuff but i'll say it again if you are meryl streep is the best actor of my lifetime and she's been nominated more than anybody but she's been around so long and she's still amazing is that she's got eight or nine movies that haven't worked for the general consensus of the public like it's just the reality of it lebron's been around so long you're gonna misstep you're gonna step in it and by and large i think he's not only a remarkable basketball player he's been remarkable human and with that mike lafleur and this is a coaching life rams jets niners falcons browns twelve years now he's the head coach of the arizona cardinals by the way last weekend you're from mount pleasant i was in birmingham michigan which is bougie that place is they got twelve hundred dollars purses and shoes so that place is unbelievable so you have this canvas of all these jobs you just come from sean mcveigh so that's a pretty good guy to have as a mentor and i want to start with this mike and obviously your older brother is the coach of the packers what is the one thing if i said oh sean mcveigh what is the one thing you take out of there that maybe i don't see as a sportscaster that you saw every day that you're like okay that's going to be one of my rules or principles

you know not just him but let's just say two of the coaches i respect so much in this league in him and kyle it's just the urgency daily you know in terms of how they approach it how they approach their staff how they approach their players like not looking too far ahead part of my job part of monty's job is obviously to be planning for ahead whether it's schedules whether it's the roster all that kind of stuff but truly living in the moment like we weren't looking to september in may you know we were looking to get really good on may sixth you know and it seems very cliche it seems very elementary but again if you're just kind of where your feet are and you're worried about getting a little bit better every single day why not you know and so i i love the urgency i love when guys would be you know coming in the building that's the approach that we ended up taking and in some ways in our own way you know we're adapting some of those same principles that i think are conducive for any business or any organization how much can

much can you talk no there's truth to that and that's a great question i'll say this when we play which we've played a lot you can't say anything right the problem is i still try to have like a brotherly conversation with him a best friend conversation that has nothing to do with football during that week he won't answer my calls so we just we don't see each other until sunday about you know an hour before the game that there's there's it's half truth but there's a lot of truth in that but you know i mean it's it just depends on what the circumstances are the draft free agency stuff like that like you know i think we've we've been very tight because that's you know yeah i love him but it's part of our organization we need to keep it within our organization same with him so you know there's there's certain parts of the roster building and all that that that just don't get talked about until after the fact and then you get into the in season and there's hey we're playing an afc team that they're not playing what not but or they played in the year before heck yeah you're going to share some stuff i mean that's that's real and that that happens you know whether he was my brother or we're talking to someone else that that

i'm close with so when ben johnson took over the bears job first thing he did was improve the interior o line and they drafted a tackle as well i thought john spytack of the raiders first thing he he did now that he is running the show with with clint kubiak he gets tyler linderbaum the center so a lot of times arizona's offensive line last several years has not been great it's a very hard when when mcveigh took over the rams job andrew whitworth cincinnati fix it kevin dotson from the steelers fix it you guys with the number three pick and a very good offensive tackle draft you took love jeremiah love unbelievable talent i totally get it but there's critics that said well your running back room's pretty good what was the takeaway you know first of all everybody wanted to move down except kansas city it's hard to move down it's easy for fans to say why don't you move down well this is not a great draft but what was the what in the room what was the feeling on that we're going to go the running back room's okay we want to make it great what was the feeling on that pick

yeah it's what you just said you know i mean there was there was a lot of discussions amongst a lot of guys defense offense back tackle whatever it is you know i mean we know all what the you know that that handful guys that were going to be you know the top six seven picks or whatnot but you talk about a guy like jeremiah that that not only the explosive playmaker but like i've said about him like we see all the stuff that you're showing right there where he's he's got he's ripping off these long runs but else you love about him is he can go between the tackles and make plays as well he can make plays in the pass game he loves protection i don't know if anyone watched his his his presser and he talked about why do you love protection well everyone wants to hit me i a chance for me to hit them you know and that's and that's real that's not just words from him you know and then you you tie that with the person and the human and his foundation in the support system and how he grew up you just felt like you got a guy that you couldn't pass up on the

about you're in arguably the first or second your brother's in the toughest division in football you're probably in the second toughest division do you talk about that does it does it alter the way you shape your roster do you talk about other teams as you build and prep and personnel going because i mean you're you are at the very early stages you're setting foundational pieces i watched it here in chicago with ben johnson like that he was like he was shutting down practice if guys didn't play hard these these first three or four months are huge for you do you talk about the rams and the seahawks and the coaching and the niners or is it all arizona in the building

it's all arizona right now you know and for the same reasons you're just saying i mean you're just trying to lay down your foundations and what your expectations are you know and build a standard and hold guys to standard whether that's coaches myself or the leaders on this team so you know every every game is tough every year changes the divisions when you look at you know what the best divisions are or so so called the best divisions they weren't necessarily the best divisions a few years ago you know so you don't even look at it like that even when you get into september all your focus on it's so hard to go one and o each week period no matter who you're playing like that that's what we love about this league that's what the fans love about this league like you just every sunday for the most part you're showing up and and you know it's three and a half hours and and and any team can win you know so not really focused on the division right now i'm actually kind of just focused on again our guys and excited when the schedule releases to figure out who who week one is

well it's it's funny because i was saying this yesterday i've played the cardinals fifteen times in my in my career because i've been in the division seven times for seven years you know and they were battles you know i mean in the four years we were in san francisco we were three and five versus them didn't win in seventeen didn't win in eighteen nineteen we ended up obviously going to the super bowl there so it was never fun coming into state farm and i know what this place is like and i know what this fan base is like when they got a team that you know they can they're believing in and i'm excited about that i'm excited about building it with these guys with with these players you know with this city but anytime you're playing a divisional opponent it's never never fun and it was the same case for for us you know going against arizona all those years three

thoughts i think ric flair's i think there's a frustration ant came back cade cunningham collapsed lung came back joel embiid you know his appendings burst you're seeing all these guys everybody's playing hurt now everybody's playing hurt and you know i think there's it's probably unfair but luka's second year luka has not been lucas sets himself up for this because he has not been in ideal shape that's always been like he doesn't play much defense he's not really committed to being in like lebron level shape or d wade shape and so when he gets banged up like ad did who similarly sometimes conditioning was a question you set yourself up i mean when cade cunningham gets hurt you know people are more likely to blame the training staff or the guy who tripped him because cade cunningham is a grinder so when you not as committed on the defensive end like if james harden got hurt you'd be like well i mean he doesn't really late night james so i think a little bit of luca the frustration for fans and maybe it's unfair is if you felt he was the most committed pro athlete you probably wouldn't push back but i think you know ants playing after an extended hyperextended knee like he's back in a week and you're like i didn't know he was going to play in the series yeah so and i think also i think you get to this point in the nba playoffs i don't i bet you lebron's ninety percent healthy eighty five percent lebron's not one hundred percent healthy nobody is the game play the game is played at such a warped speed now all these guys are nursing stuff yeah yeah
