Here we go, our number two on the Herd midweek show. Heavy on the NFL. We're going to do some over under shortly. Remember Ohio State star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith dropping by the show probably in about 30 minutes. And then we got new UCLA head coach Bob Chesney, 2:15 Eastern. Oh man, can't wait, cannot wait to talk to him as he is a JMU guy. As am I. Joined by Rachel Nichols. Rachel over under bets in July are always a difficult proposition.

That's where you make your money though, right? Because the idea is that most people haven't had the time to really look down and bear down on everything. You can get odds that aren't happening.

Yeah, I don't know what to do with. Some teams like Washington did not make this list because I don't know what they're going to be. So much newness. They're going to be great.

That's how they're going to be worse than last year. All right, let's why you got to be like that? Why am I taking strays all the way over here?

Well, you know, it's Washington and Fernando Mendoza. Anyway ways no, I'm just kidding. All right, let's go to some over under picks for the upcoming NFL season. We're going to start with a guy who lives near me. You know, I see him and not quite a neighbor, but he's in the neighborhood. Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions over 10 and a half wins. Now I don't think they're a legit super bowl team, but this is heavily schedule related. I do believe, thanks to a fortuitous schedule, that the Lions are going to be very, very good next year. And again, Jameer Gibbs is a stud, although he wants his contract Amara St. Brown is excellent. Jared Goff, the offensive line should be improved. It did take a step back last year. The defense is where the question marks lie. Obviously secondary has major question marks. They will have Aiden Hutchinson be starring off the edge in the division. I think 11 wins will probably do the trick. Now, if you think that's high, I'm just telling you, look at the schedule for Detroit. A lot of indoor games, a lot of winnable games. They're going to be favored and it looks like 14 games this season. I'm just telling you, Detroit is going to beat up on some people. All right, so from an over, let's go to an under. And the first under is the New England Patriots. Under ten and a half wins. Okay, we know they had one of the best schedules last year in the this century in the NFL. It was lined up everything for them perfectly. They're not a great team. They were very good. Drake May was excellent. You look at the defense and it was fine. It did not look great in the Super Bowl. It looked pretty good at home, in the rain, in the playoffs. But there's just nothing that to me that jumps out about this team. However, adding AJ Brown does throw a bit of a monkey wrench into this because if they have the stretch, the field receivers and the run game cooks. Rabel's offense is going to be good with May. That being said, the schedule is absolutely unforgiving. It is, you know, as you would expect, a very tough first place schedule. And I do believe there is some aggression. This is probably an eight or nine win team. Still in the wild card hunt, but definitely under ten and a half for the New England Patriots. All right, next bet, we're going back to the nfc. My Philadelphia Eagles. I'm riding that Jalen hurts train, baby. I know people don't like him. I don't know what it is. Oh, he only throws to one part of the field. You know, they just keeps winning football games. He's got Saquon Barkley. He's got what I think is one of the best defenses in the nfc. It's right there with Seattle. Guys, it is a tremendous defensive front. The secondary has been excellent and, and you look at some of these numbers of a wide receiver by committee, it's not really quite a pick your poison. But the tight end grouping is strong. The wide receivers are. There's no alpha. You know, I, I don't think they have a number one, but I don't know that they need one. The real question is Sean Manion's Play calling. And the more you start to read about what he wants to do, it's starting to sound like not going to be a tush push kind of year for the Eagles. That being said, I still like them over ten and a half wins. I have them winning the NFC East. All right, so from an over, let's go to an under and I'm going to go back to Bo Knicks and the Denver Broncos under nine and a half again. Anytime Vegas sends out a signal, you've got to interpret it in as many ways as possible. So 14 wins last year, right. Host the conference championship game. I mean hell if, if Bo Nicks doesn't get hurt against Buffalo, they probably beat the Patriots at home.

And they're in the super bowl now you go from 14 wins, 11 and oh in one score games to nine and a half when all they did was add Jaylen Waddle. What am I missing here? Something seems up in Denver and I do believe that those first six games, I don't know if we could pop the schedule on the screen but guys, there's a real world where they're one in five or two and four after six games. It is that brutal of a schedule. And again, the Davis Webb, Sean Payton stuff that we just talked to James Palmer about is very interesting. That is probably the most interesting head coach, offensive coordinator subplot to watch. So I'm going under nine and a half wins on the Denver Broncos. Now back to an over Jacksonville Jaguars.

J J, what are you over eight and a half. Listen, they're in a division with the Texans and everybody loves the Texans and I and we do have here in the notes that Jacksonville did need to win eight of nine down the stretch to get into the playoffs. I, I fondly remember that Chiefs game. Everybody loved the Chiefs. I told you guys it was Monday Night Football. Give me Jacksonville. And Lloyd made the big play, picking off Patrick Mahomes and running it back for the score. Tremendous game. That kind of jump started the Jags for the second half of the season. Now they did lose Travis Etn, the great running back. However, we also didn't see much of the superstar rookie wide receiver slash DB that they traded up in the draft for. And I do believe we're just going to see him hopefully only play one side of the ball where he can specialize. I like Trevor Lawrence. Over eight and a half wins for Jackson, both of them. And finally we're going to the New Orleans Saints and I'm gonna go under seven and a half. This is Mostly a fade. The public. Why everybody likes New Orleans. Everybody likes Tyler Schuck. Now, if you look at some of the data, what we're. What we're hearing for the last, you know, two decades is there is zero correlation between late season surge and the next season, which kind of hurts Jacksonville. But I digress. So Tyler Shuck, good, good quarterback. He's got a solid receiving core. You know, Kellen Moore did some nice things last year. I just, I'm not a believer in this defense, and I don't know about the schedule. It does not line up as great for the Saints under seven and a half in a division where the Falcons don't really have a quarterback right now, BAKER Mayfield seems PO'd, and everybody kind of sort of likes Carolina. It is so weird. If you look at playoff odds for this division, it's wacky because basically nobody knows who's going to be. I decided to go under seven and a half on the Denver Broncos. So to recap, overs, Lions, Eagles, Jags, under Patriots, Broncos, Saints. And if you're keeping track at home, four of those six teams were in the playoffs last year. All right, so moving on from win totals to the Dallas Cowboys, I think we've done a great job, Rachel and I, the last, I don't know, eight days, not talking about this irrelevant franchise that somehow drives unbelievable TV numbers because they were good 30 years ago. But Jerry Jones decided to open his mouth yesterday, talking to the media. I mean, again, camp just opened. The Cowboys haven't done anything in a couple of years. They haven't threatened the super bowl in forever. And this is what Jerry Jones had to say to the media. I think we've got a chance to really be good. It's going to be hard. Bottom line is, I love the excitement. You guys, for all practical purposes, don't expect us to be a contender in the Super Bowl. Y' all don't. Why would you? I like that. I do. I like that. And I like what we put together to show you that we can do it. So basically, Jerry Jones just skips over. We're gonna. We're gonna win the division. We're gonna get to the playoffs. He just jumps right to Super Bowl. Why? Because this is what these guys do. These are the Elon Musk of the world. Just hype, hype, hype. With no numbers at all to back it up. No evidence or anything, but it's just driving the hype train. Get everybody excited, get people talking. And now our show is force feeding you Dallas super bowl contender. Like They've got no chance at the Super Bowl.

I just looked at some of the numbers from FTN Dallas. 3% chance at the Super Bowl, 39 chance at the playoffs. Now it gets funnier because, you know, okay, the offense, they were good last year. Let's be real. The offense was very good. Pickens and, and Lamb Dak Prescott had a good year. Offensive line was a work in progress, but they were good. The defense was abysmal. 32nd by most advanced metrics. They were terrible. That losing Micah Parsons, you know, right before the season hurts. But through the Micah Parsons trade, Dallas has rebuilt. And it looks to me like they're going to have as many as six, five or six new defensive starters. I'm really bullish on Caleb Downs. I think that's, you know, the crown jewel of this defense. But Jerry then decided to talk a little bit about the defense as if they weren't the worst in the league last year. Here we go. Oh, I think to contend for a Super bowl, which would. If you contend, you got a real chance of being in it and being in the game. I think those are the kinds of things that I don't believe are an outlandish or a reach to expect. And so that's a successful season. I expect us to be significantly improved defensively, significantly improved. And I actually expect us to improve overall, the offense. And I expect the enthusiasm that coach has talked about here to be contagious on the field. I mean, he's 83 years old. Guys, maybe tomorrow we'll have a list of the 32 NFL owners and see how many spoke at training camp. I'm gonna guess just. I'm just guessing that we're looking at under five. Like he's doing this to hype the Cowboys. So that podcast, radio, tv, all talk about them. Are they going to be good? Define good. Their win total according to the staff is nine and a half. Okay, that's solid. They're going to be better than the Giants. I think. I feel confident in saying that. I feel pretty confident saying they're going to be better than Washington. They'll need to catch some breaks, you know, health wise to. To topple the Eagles. Maybe they win the division. That. That to me would be a massive season for Dallas if they won the division. But like just this leap to super bowl, just a news flash to anybody in the media, if you do like a Super bowl bubble and the Dallas Cowboys are even in it, like you're doing it wrong. They do not deserve, by any metric, go look at The super bowl odds for all 32 teams. Dallas is not near the. Not near the super bowl bubble. But interestingly, neither of the Bears yet. A lot of people love them. That could be because Ben Johnson is thought of as the next McVeigh. I mean, you know Schottenheimer, he ain't the next big vay. So I just. I can't. With Jerry, you know, it's just. It's extremely frustrating. Now. I want to bring in Rachel here. Rachel, before we go to break, I just need to ask you, you've covered the NFL for a long time.

If he doesn't talk like this, then he's not Jerry Jones anymore. Then he's just some guy who owns a football team. Come on. It's like the end of Goodfellas. Some jamoke, you know? Right. Whatever. This guy eating pasta with ketchup on it.

Look, I think Jerry Jones has made the Dallas Cowboys who they were. They are America's team because of Jerry Jones. This is the whole package. What I don't think Jerry Jones should be doing is running the personnel for this team. It is time let someone else have the reins there. You can still be giving the press conferences. You can still be the face. You can be. Still be telling everyone they're going to win the super bowl and that Dak Prescott's going to be the next president. Whatever outlandish claims you want to make, you can still do all this stuff. You can still be Jerry Jones. You don't have to be one of those other guys, but let someone else make the personnel decisions. Because to me, the financial. Just the financials alone that he has messed up over the last five years, it is so much money that he has unnecessarily had to pay out to these guys that he is franchised and franchised instead of just extending them the way, say, the Eagles do early when you know they're talented. It's prevented you from adding more talent to the roster. And that is why they are in this cycle that they've been in.

So let me ask. I thought so when the Cowboys were winning super bowls in the 90s. You know, we love to talk about credit. Both of us are married people, and I'm the guy who's like, hey, everybody, I just brought in the trash can from the curb. You know, like, can you Give me some credit here, by the way. I scheduled this.

Babysit your own kids, too.

I do not babysit my own kids, but I do babysit our dog, who's going through some stuff right now. He's going to be fine. Don't worry. But, like, does Jerry get the super bowl credit for the 90s, or is it the coaches or is it the players?

Dude, that was like, I'm thinking, 30 years ago. So, absolutely, Jerry gets some of that credit because he was doing the personnel stuff back then, too. And you give credit to the people designing the recipe and buying the ingredients in the grocery store. To use the Bill Parcells analogy for the second time in the show. But he doesn't get the credit. If he gets the credit for that, he also gets some of the blame now.

And 30 years in, there's a reason that we don't see a 30 year president or GM of a team, right?

At some point, you need a new voice, you need new thoughts, you need new people with new ideas. Head coaching in the NFL has certainly gotten so much younger than it was 20, 25 years ago. And in the front offices, we are seeing people look at things differently. It's not just analytics or Moneyball or any of that stuff. It is just approaching new realities differently. The new contract and cap rules, all of the different things that make a front office good, requires some new learning and turnover. And Jerry Jones has just held onto that with such a grip that you have someone sitting up in front of a bunch of people at a press conference saying, we're going to win the super bowl this year. Because in his mind, that recipe is still good from 30 years ago.

And that matters less to Cowboys fans. What matters more is somebody actually on the inside of the building building the decision.

Gonna see a Northwestern person, like, popping up behind him on the screen. You know that's gonna happen. All right, Jason, you know how after a big story, big thing in sports happens? That's when we get all the details about what really went on. Like, everyone leaks out what they didn't want to say at the time. That is what's happening now with the LeBron situation. ESPN reporting that people close to James believe the Lakers were never serious about re signing him. And former player Jim Jackson thinks he knows why. He said, if you're going to pass the Mantle to Luka, LeBron couldn't be there. The idea that Luka couldn't be the real leader of the team if LeBron was still there in the locker room, his gravitational pull. Look, I always say LeBron's like a planet unto himself, but I'm not sure that the leader has to be the best player. I don't know. What do you think? Do you think Luka could have still thrived with the Lakers as the best player or been the leader with LeBron still there?

So are there examples of that? The leader not being the best player?

I mean, Kyle Lowry wasn't the best player on the Raptors when they won the title. Kawhi Leonard was right. Johnson, Phillips, not the best player on the 2004 Pistons. We've had leaders who are sort of the more older, wiser guy. We're the best players. The younger upstart. I mean, 2006, when Shaq and Dwayne were the best players on the Heat, when they won that crazy title. You had Yudanis, Haslam and Alonzo Mourning. Trust me, Alonzo Mourning's his own planet. Like, he was still the leader in that locker room.

I just. Everything with LeBron is he's, like you said, in his own universe. It's just so different with him. I actually kind of like this gym take. Yeah, leave it to the great Jim Jackson, obviously, to a Big Ten legend to come up with. And I. And I don't disagree with it. I kind of sort of wish I had come up with this on my own, you know, Luca, can it be his locker room when he's got to kind of defer to LeBron after every game? The media is not directly going to Luca, it's often LeBron. And so now that he's gone, Luka sets the tone, talks to everybody like he is the guy. There's no question as well, LeBron said this or LeBron's going to be the number three guy or the two. All that's done, right? The noise is tuned out.

Well, that noise is tuned out. I mean, it's still the LA Lakers. There's always going to be noise. Right. And Luke has been the head guy on the team. Right. He certainly was the leader in Dallas, but Dallas is different from Los Angeles and the crucible that is the LA Lakers. I don't know. I mean, I was around that team, you know, a ton these past couple seasons. I don't think Luka always minded that there was a ton of media around LeBron. Also. Luka doesn't love doing media. He doesn't love, you know, he's not a rah, rah speech guy. I love that he's got a great connectivity in the locker room. He really makes everyone in the locker room feel important. And that's a huge part of leadership. And he obviously leads by example. He's such a great player. He's got amazing energy and charisma on the floor. He's got all kinds of leadership qualities. But sort of being the guy who gives a big speech or the guy that, like, says the big statement in the media, that's not Luka Doncic.

People are going to go over to Slovenia on the Lakers roster. They're going to do sort of sightseeing and activities and things like that.

You know, it's easy to say it's LeBron's fault when LeBron's there. When LeBron's not there, you gotta start. The blame goes other places. So we'll see what happens. I don't know. All right, let's talk about the Big Ten since we're gonna be talking to people from the Big Ten shortly. Dominant conference, Jason. And I'm not just saying that because I don't know if you heard, I went to Northwestern. Three consecutive national championships, 11 total playoff wins over the last two seasons. The SEC, remember, they used to be good. Five playoff wins over those same two seasons. In fact, head to head. If you look at the last four times the conferences have met in the playoffs, the Big Ten has won all of them. And it's not just me seeing these things. It's not just me. Illinois's head coach, Brett Vilma, has been outspoken on social media. And he's got a new quote here. He said, The SEC, they want to live in 2005 forever. You don't have to guess how I feel. Yeah, I'm seeing some of the Big ten honors. You're obviously the preseason offensive player of the year. Talk about team expectations for you and then individual. What are you. What are you going for this year?

Jeremiah Smith
Yeah, team expectations, of course. No, we all want to win a Big ten championship, make it to the playoffs and of course, winning another national championship. But no, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, you know, to get to them, the moments and, you know, personal goals for myself, you know, want to win the B award and, you know, possibly be a Hosman finalist. But I know it takes a lot of hard work, you know, to get them award. So.

Yeah, I want to ask you about Ohio State. Obviously you and Julian say and have a great connection. Last year was good and you're looking to make the leap this year. What. What did you and say and connect with in the offseason and what did you guys work on together to even make. Make the connection better?

Yeah, first we. Me, you know, me and Julian was working out a lot this offseason. Spent a lot of time together in the weight room pushing each other. So it's been truly special, though, just to cheering with him this off season, you know, just putting things out there on the Field. Now it's time to go put everything on the field and show why everybody, we're the best duo in the country and it's going to show this season for sure.

Yeah, a lot of these highlights that we're showing on the screen here, you're getting double teamed down the field and it doesn't really matter. People can't stop you. I'm just, I gotta ask though, Jeremiah, when you line up and you see two guys shaded towards you, do you know, okay, I'm getting that treatment all game long, what goes through your head like, can I beat these two or guys? Everybody else is going to eat because they're trying to shut me down

A little bit of both. I know I'm still trying to win my matchup. Even if it's two people on me, I'm still trying to get open and win. But at some point you realize that no, this team not buzzing, they're not trying to let number four beat them. So I just know I got to be a good teammate and still know, do my routes, I mean run my routes and get open still so it can open up something for the other guy, whoever on the other side of the field, a slot tight end, running back or whoever it is. So I'm always trying to do my job.

I think back to that Texas game in the playoff. They were able to hold you to one catch and it was clear that their goal game plan was we can't let Smith kill us because I think you had just destroyed Oregon or maybe you're going to destroy in the next week. But what do you remember about that matchup and have you seen anything like that since?

Jeremiah Smith
No, I haven't seen anything like that since. I mean they did a pretty good job. But no, you could say containing me a lot of. I went back, we went back and watched the film. I was open on a lot of stuff and just, you know, quarterback realized they was doubling me so they wasn't looking my way. So. But we still up into winning the game. That's all what matters.

Talk about the new offensive coordinator. Arthur Smith comes from the NFL. Obviously, you know, we'll get to NFL stuff, but what has that been like? Is there going to be a new offense? What can we expect from Ohio State and Arthur Smith?

Yeah, you can see a total new offense. I mean, it's going to be a very explosive offense. I don't think. Last year, I mean we was explosive, but when we needed to be, we wasn't. So yeah, the offense is going to be very different. We're going to do a lot of different things in this offense this year. I mean, I love Coach Smith and he's been a great addition to Ohio State.

I can't believe this. You're still only 20 years old, yet here we are, year three. They're talking about you like one of the best wide receivers in the history of the sport. You know, do you think, you know, physically, mentally, you're already ready for the NFL? I mean, you got one more season to go. You'll be 21. You're still on the very young side.

Yeah, I mean, I don't really know. We'll see when I. Whenever I get there. I can't really answer that question right now, but we gotta be able to see.

Yeah, obviously you're getting peppered with NFL stuff and you could stay another year. You know, Dante Moore stayed. A lot of guys stay. But I want to ask about some NIL stuff. And again, I'm not asking for your deals in general, but in terms of what you've seen in the nil, what do you think it's good for college football or great or. Because there's a lot of pushback now about it. I like the players getting paid. I mean, you guys are the ones generating the revenue and the profits. So talk to me about your thoughts on nil.

Yeah, I mean, nil is, you know, name, image of likeness. I mean, I love it. I mean, it's, you know, paying a lot of kids out of high school, getting a lot of money, a little bit of money in their pockets at a very young age. But, I mean, you could say it's good and bad, but you see a lot of guys doing a lot of bad stuff with the money as well. So, I mean, you just got to know how to balance. Balance it in. Know who you have around you as well as well, and be careful what you're spending and stuff like that. So, yeah, I feel like it's. It's good and bad until. And I see, you know, both sides, so. Yeah.

Yeah. What do you have in place to prevent that from happening? Obviously, everybody's coming to you. Hey, Jeremiah hooked me up with a car. You know, what do you got for me? You know, do you have, like, a family presence that's helping you out with that agent, manager? What's the deal?

Yeah, I think do a pretty good job with no Nil and stuff like that. I mean, I have my dad who's in control of everything. I have an agent, I have a financial advisor and things like that, who's you know, really take care, you know, all that stuff for me. So, man, if you want. You want something for me, you got to go through my dad. So you. You're not really getting an answer out of me.

I. I love that. I love that. Now, obviously people say, hey, man, Jeremiah Smith reminds me Randy Moss. Some people will say Chris Carter. Tell me some of the names you've heard, people compare you to, and then who you think you mostly model your game after.

Yeah, I mean, I hear all the comparisons from no big, big type of receivers, like, you know, Julio Jones, you hear Andre Johnson, you hear Terrell Owens, you hear Larry Fitzgerald things and them guys like that. I mean, you just try to take anything and everything from know all them type of guys and apply it in your game. But I feel like I myself and know all them was their own type of player, so I don't really try to compare myself to anybody.

Yeah, I. I knew you said smart guy. This guy knows his stuff. So, Jeremiah, let me also ask you this. When was the last time a cornerback talked trash to you in college football? Anybody line up and was trying to get in your head? Say something. Come on. First of all, name the guy. If you don't want to name the guy, name the team at least. And what he said to try to get in your head.

Yeah, we was playing Penn State. One of the corners was just talking a lot of trash that game, and he ended up being quiet by the time it was snow, halftime in third quarter. So I think after that, he was done talking trash after that. Don't want to say what he said, but he was talking about the trash

during the tackles or when you line up, he's like, you're not getting anywhere. Like, is it in the middle of a play? What's break. Break it down for us?

Yeah, it's really, really is. During the play or after the play, that's when he was doing a lot of talking. But I mean, after me and Carnell was done with him, he was pretty quiet after that.

Yeah. By the way, have you kept in touch with Carnell Tate? He's in the NFL. I think he's suiting up for the Browns. Probably gonna play a big role. What did you learn from him, if. At anything?

Yeah, no, with Carnell, know we stayed. We was just in Miami a little bit for my break, spending a lot of time together. But what I learned from him, no, just staying consistent. Carnell was one of the most consistent person I've ever been around. So me, him, he just smart. A smart Player and do everything the right way. So then he was a great blocker, great right runner, did everything right. So who wouldn't want a receiver like that? So, yeah, no, just trying to do the same thing for myself.

I know that you're going to say we take every game one game at a time, but you know that there's two circled on the schedule. Obviously Texas, you guys beat them last year, now you got to go to their place. They're favored this year. I don't know your thoughts on the matchup against Texas.

Yeah, it's going to be. It's going to be a hard matchup. We're going down there to their place this year. I think it's. Is it a 7:30 game? 7:00 game game? Whatever time it is, it's gonna be tough. We gotta be ready for the crowd notice and everything that come with it. So I think we gonna be prepared when that time come.

Is there anything else you anticipate being a tougher venue than Texas? I don't know, maybe Michigan. We'll get to Michigan in a sec.

I don't think nothing gonna beat Texas. That's SEC right there. I don't think. Probably. Probably you can say usc, I hope. Hopefully usc. I heard Nebraska, hard place to play out as well. So we'll see. Wow.

Okay, usc. All right, let's get to the, to the Michigan game. Jeremiah, I'm sure you got a lot of buddies on Michigan. Obviously you guys had a pretty good run, but it's not always easy against them. How important is it to you to beat Michigan? Is this like everything the fans are talking about? The family, the friends, everybody?

Yeah, I mean, it's, you know, it's very tough matchup going into that week. You know, everybody, you know, just uptight about everything. We know what that, that win or loss mean to notice university and everybody in Ohio. And we don't want to lose and they don't want to lose. So we, you know, doing everything in our power to win that game. And that's all what matters. That's all what matters is winning the game.

Yeah. All right. Jeremiah Smith. I got to get one other NFL, I'm a big jets fan. You know, we got two picks in the top 10. We're thinking quarterback and Jeremiah Smith. If things break our way. You spend a lot of time in Florida, obviously. Do you have any? Do you ever think about that? And if so, where? I mean, listen, a lot of people want to go to California out here, sunny and beautiful.

I'm gonna assume he was the guy talking trash. I love that stuff. Shocker. Okay, little fun fact about J. Mac. When I play in men's leagues, sometimes in hoops, I'm known to talk some trash. Now, I definitely like to know what I'm getting out going up against, but I. I've been known to run my mouth just a little bit. Not quite as much as, say, Draymond Green, and let's bring in this Draymond Green sound. So Draymond Green, of course, comes out as the loser in the LeBron sweepstakes. Yeah, I don't know that. I totally agree. A couple thoughts here. Do you remember how bad it was when he left Cleveland and Dan Gilbert wrote that letter? Comic sans shredding LeBron. Four years later, he went back to Cleveland. Dan Gilbert was still the owner. Like, he got over it. He got over the history of the owner tearing him to pieces in a letter that I'm sure The owner regrets. LeBron got over it. And, you know, Draymond definitely has a Point. Obviously, people would say stuff. They said stuff about Kevin Durant, right? Kevin Durant goes to join Curry. Kevin Durant gets ripped. But I do want to remind some other folks that Jaylen Brown of the Sixers had some not very nice comments about Bronnie in the last few years. LeBron just got over it. That's water under the bridge. So I. I don't know. I mean, LeBron, you know, we. We hear about grudges. Tom Brady, I remember every single quarterback that was drafted ahead of me. Guys do that stuff all the time, right? They use it as motivation, but I don't. I'm guessing not all of them hold a grudge and refuse to do something because of something else. I don't know. Rachel, I want to bring you in and ask you. I don't totally agree with Draymond's take. I understand where he's coming from, but do you think that's the reason he didn't pick Golden State?

I don't think Draymond meant the history of the fact that Steph beat him in 2017 or any of that stuff. I think it meant that he saw what happened with Kevin Durant when he went over there, and he didn't want to be part of that. And this idea of, oh, you had to go join who is considered still. I mean, look, we haven't had a lot of repeat champions or repeat finals in the NBA. There's been eight champions in eight years. But right before that was the Golden State warriors dynasty versus LeBron James and the Cavaliers over and over and over again. And the fact is that, yes, LeBron had the biggest win in 2016, but. But they lost to Steph Curry in 2015, and they lost to Steph Curry in 2017, and they lost to Steph Curry In 2018. So I think that history is a little bit of like, oh, if you can't beat them, join them. That's what KD did. Look what happened to kd, as opposed to there's a grudge. Because we have seen, while at the beginning of The Steph Curry, LeBron rivalry, there was a lot of hard feelings. Remember those Halloween cookies with the tombstone?

All of that stuff. And, you know, Klay Thompson up on the podium laughing at LeBron and Kyrie, that went away. And then just like with a lot of, you know, the old high school football rivals, all of a sudden they're the ones in the bar 20 years later telling stories together. That's what these guys have become. They're on the Olympic team, high fiving each other, whispering to each other off camera, you know, on the court and everything. It's not the history of you beat me. It's the history of watching Kevin Durant go to a team that beat him and how bad that was and the fact that it is Golden State so specifically now, I don't think it's the same thing because the warriors right now are not the powerhouse that they were when Kevin Durant joined them. I actually don't think Kevin Durant going there was a big problem, but LeBron is sensitive to that kind of.

Was it 70? That was the 73 win team that he joined. Yeah, yeah. LeBron would be joining like a 39 win team or whatever the warriors were last year. They weren't great. Maybe it's 42, whatever the number was, bad team. They, you know, got smoked in the playing by the Suns.

Yeah, but I, I, I don't doubt that Draymond is right. And we heard Rich Paul say kind of a vers that it was a concern. And look, LeBron does care what people think about him. You know, the decision is a scarring event in his life and was something that was really unpleasant and miserable and turned him into a villain he didn't want to be. And he's talked about that since. I think it actually would have been greeted pretty warmly if he had gone to go team up with Stephen. It's not like he was coming directly from Cleveland. And I think that people would have thought, oh, man, you know, we joked what, the Expendables or whatever. I mean, everyone's got like a million old movie titles they want to throw, but it would be the greatest show. You think Steph Curry, LeBron James, Draymond Green. There was talk of, should we bring Klay Thompson back?
