LaVar Arrington
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. It's saherd here on fox sports radio. Levar arrington hi jonas knox in for colin. You can listen live on the iHeartRadio app. You can find us on hundreds of affiliates all across the country. If you're listening on the podcast, we appreciate you doing so. When Lavar and I are together and there's no Brady Quinn, we do a little show called Black and Dra. For those wondering. I look like Dracula and Lavar.
Jonas Knox
I look like a black man.
LaVar Arrington
Yeah. And it's radio. Go figure. Imagination run wild.
Jonas Knox
I don't know if that's an opinion or a fact. And it rhymes with the word black. So kind of sort of when we
LaVar Arrington
started the show, the legal tampering period started in the NFL. Okay. Quote, unquote, legal tampering period, where basically everybody's been fooling around on their better halves and trying to pretend like there was no conversations going on.
Jonas Knox
And so I'm coming back.
LaVar Arrington
There's been moves that have been made. There's another one to report here. And we've been getting it all today from the Tongan Tui himself, who's got the latest on the transaction wire and the breaking news from around the NFL. Breaking news from Fox Sports.
NFL Insider/Reporter
So this is an underrated one, guys. Tight end Isaiah likely from the Ravens heading to the Giants on a three year deal. I like him a lot. I like him a lot. I think this is a bit. I think this is a really good signing for New York, which is code
LaVar Arrington
for he helped me win a couple of games in fantasy one year. And you've never forgotten it. That's what that means. No, he's. Yeah. And so the Giants are going to add a piece and it felt like Baltimore was going to probably move on from him because I didn't. They give Mark Andrews a new deal last year. Yeah, I think.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Yeah. And then they just took on Max Crosby and.
LaVar Arrington
Yeah.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Yeah. So like. Yeah, they got to cut, cut costs here.
LaVar Arrington
Yeah. So that's.
Jonas Knox
Well, it's interesting because, you know, Isaiah likely is not, you know, he's not super old, 25 years old.
LaVar Arrington
He'd be a sophomore in college now.
Jonas Knox
25. Good pool. That's a really good pool. Yeah.
LaVar Arrington
Yeah.
Jonas Knox
But you know what? They, they have Theo Johnson already there in New York, who is a young budding superstar, in my, my opinion, at the position. Not because he's a Penn State or but because I actually think he's really that good that, that it creates necessary depth at, at the position and could add a, a different, a different weapon in terms of what, you know, what you're able to do with the different packages. You know, you may run 12 personnel more often than what you, you would have without having a talent like likely being on your team. And could also provide more blocking, possible blocking, better blocking. In terms of double threat, you got two tight ends that you can put out there that are dual threat tight ends. They can block and they can catch
LaVar Arrington
the ball, run routes and also familiarity with John Harbaugh. There you go. There you go. That would make, you know, that would make some sense and clearly he's, you know, he, he liked him in Baltimore because I think. And he kind of. Isaiah likely was one of those guys that flashed in the preseason, I think to where there was like he looked really good and really talented, like he was going to be the next big. And there just wasn't a lot of opportunities in Baltimore. And so now he gets a deal and he goes to the Giants.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Yeah, that's been one of a flurry of moves today already. We've saw last hour we told you Kenneth Walker is headed to the Chiefs. Big free agent deal there. Actually biggest free agent deal for running back ever. Alec Pierce heading back to Indianapolis. Four years, 84 million guaranteed. And off of that, Michael Pittman traded to the Steelers. Lavar Steelers.
Jonas Knox
To me, I feel like that's the outside of Max Crosby. That's the biggest one. Obviously McDuffie going, going out of. Of Kansas City and making a move is, is a pretty tremendous move as well. But I gotta say the potential of what you could have with a healthy group of tight ends, as we just mentioned with the Giants, you know, if you get big big guy coming back off of his. What, what was it? A broken ankle or broken arm? What was the big tight end from the Steelers?
LaVar Arrington
Oh, Parnell Washington. Washington.
Jonas Knox
Oh, sorry, Washington. What did he break? He broke something, right?
LaVar Arrington
He broke somebody. That's who he broke.
Jonas Knox
Well, he went out injured too though.
LaVar Arrington
That's a big dude.
Jonas Knox
Yeah, I think it was a broken.
LaVar Arrington
But Darnell Washington. Yeah. Darnell Washington. Yeah.
NFL Insider/Reporter
What'd I say? What did I say?
Jonas Knox
No, you say Ezel, by the way,
LaVar Arrington
you know, he said, you know too. He said Parnell, not Dave or something.
Jonas Knox
I mean, he said he's out. Like what are you getting out there from Friday? You know, the one that saw. Saw Smokey in the back backyard taking a like what I did this morning anyway. And you got Friar Mo, if he's coming back is you. You got a nice tight ends, tight ends room. But the receiving core was lacking. They needed one more guy that could open up things for the running game and open up things for DK Metcalf. I think this has the potential of being the biggest move so far. It is outside again, Max Crosby. I. I think Pittman Jr. He's, he's still a very young, young receiver, nice talent. I would have never, never thought that the Colts would just let him go, but I guess they made an either or situation there and, and for Pittsburgh. Like you said Tui, I think it's definitely is a. A move in the direction of saying, you know, look at this, Aaron. You have two, two nice targets that you could throw to at the receiver's position. Maybe you give it one more go. Let's see if we could do it
NFL Insider/Reporter
with with and the Mike McCarthy. Their stars seem to be aligning for Aaron return to Pittsburgh.
LaVar Arrington
The jets have made some moves, right? I think Joseph ASAI was, was one of the moves they made.
NFL Insider/Reporter
They also made.
LaVar Arrington
There's. There's been a couple of. Of jets moves that have been made. Like they've been actually somewhat active here, which would beg the question for me. Why?
Jonas Knox
Because they trying to get better.
LaVar Arrington
Okay.
Jonas Knox
Why are you gonna hate on the jets trying to improve?
LaVar Arrington
Hey, if you want to get better, go move to the cfl. Okay. What are we talking about?
Jonas Knox
It's like if you're a bad person, like, somebody starts saying like, like for instance, myself, I'll try to create some better habits in my life, do things better, and all you do is is criticize me and give me a hard time for trying to be better. Like, if you're a bad person, it doesn't mean you have to stay being a bad person. Jonas, I don't understand. Like, you can't be committed to one thing, all, all that you're guaranteed. It's changed.
LaVar Arrington
I got changed. I got news for you, Jeffrey Dahmer. Don't come up to me and tell me you put the cart back in the front of the store and you didn't leave it in the parking lot. The damage has been done, pal. Okay, Like, I don't want to hear.
Jonas Knox
So you can never be redeemed. You can never redeem yourself.
LaVar Arrington
I don't want to hear that you picked up a cup that somebody left next to the trash can and you put it in there so nobody else had to clean it. All right? The damage is you're the Jets. You're awful. Okay, We've seen it. We understand it. We know what's happened next year is going to look just like this year looked. What are we. Come on, man. Hey, hey.
Jonas Knox
That's an opinion.
LaVar Arrington
Jonas Knox, I'm a changed man. I clean my. My dog took a crap out in front of the neighbor's house, but I cleaned it up. Okay, You've got three bodies in the basement. Okay, explain those and then tell me about all the good.
Jonas Knox
You got to start somewhere. You gotta start somewhere. Nobody, nobody starts at Z. You know, sometimes you gotta start at the beginning of the Alphabet, bro. Like. Like, let's work our way to the end. Yeah, you want. I mean, imagine if we put that type of evil on the Chicago Bears.
Stugatz
What?
Jonas Knox
They could never be any good because they haven't been good for so long. On the who? The Bears? The Chicago Bears.
LaVar Arrington
The Hammond Bears. By the way, get it correct here. Hammond, Indiana Bears.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Another big move, guys. Last hour, Lavar and I had some fun with this one. Malik Willis, first quarterback off the board, heading to Miami. Three year deal, 45 million guaranteed. LaVar thinks he's. Thinks.
Jonas Knox
I think there could be.
LaVar Arrington
Demario Davis just signed with the jets too.
Jonas Knox
How about it?
LaVar Arrington
Why? What are we doing?
Jonas Knox
Because it's a great market
Stugatz
if you're
Jonas Knox
part of the tell. You look at what happened in, in Foxborough this year. You had all those free agents go to.
LaVar Arrington
To.
Jonas Knox
To be with Mike Vrabel in, in New England. They signed and they made it all the way to the Super Bowl. These guys are looking at the opportunity. Aaron Glenn, for. For whatever reason or another that you want to disparage him. Aaron Glenn is a fine coach and even more of a fine human being. And people will want to play for Aaron Glenn.
LaVar Arrington
He should get out, too. I'm telling you, he should get out.
Jonas Knox
They made a movie about it. Maybe they should change it to the jets edition. So, like the Jets Chapter two Get out facility.
LaVar Arrington
It's almost like everybody, like, you kind of know what teams are doing, like, hey, listen, we're okay if we're bad this year, you know, because we'll get the number one pick. And it's like the jets can't quite figure it out anything.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Isn't this kind of a move, though, to bring in like an older veteran just to kind of keep them afloat and you don't. You know, you talked about building, like looking for that quarterback next year. I mean, this is what the Texans did with Lovey Smith. They brought in a bunch of Veterans knowing they were going to suck and then they, they were sort of building up for that next, like that next regime, right, with the Miko.
LaVar Arrington
And what did it get them? Yeah, they got last week win against the Colts
Stugatz
fired.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Well, that was going to happen.
LaVar Arrington
Davis Mills and his building neck came out there and won a game that they didn't need to win, but they
NFL Insider/Reporter
would have taken Bryce Young and they got C.J.
LaVar Arrington
stroud and they.
NFL Insider/Reporter
So it worked out right. But, but I think that's what the jets are doing. They're looking clearly looking at 20, 27 and that draft class and they're just going to kind of stay afloat this year. They're going to be. They don't want to, they don't want to stink so bad. They want to be relevant enough.
Jonas Knox
If you'll be back so bad, you're, you're risking not being back as a coach. Guys do not get more than one season too much anymore to make a difference, a significant difference on the team. That has become the new norm and that's what's generally discuss discussed is that these, these coaches are not getting three to four years to build a team, build an environment, a culture, build things up new. You are in a win now league in an era of time where you have to do it. So to me, I don't. I, I think they're being aggressive because they're trying to win this year. Y' all could think that this is something that's, that's pushed far out from now if you want to. You're bringing in Minka, Fitzpatrick, you, you're. You bring in the running.
LaVar Arrington
Yeah, that's the other one they traded
Jonas Knox
for making and gave up a seven draft, Brown draft for him. Listen, because they're trying to win. They're trying to win. If I'm looking at my division, if I'm looking at my division, the Buffalo Bills could be vulnerable. This could be a vulnerable team. And if I got to set my sights on the Patriots, the win against the Patriots, I ain't even worrying about the Dolphins. If I gotta worry about the Patriots and, and potentially like, okay, we gotta slay the dragon with, with the Bills and improve definitively one way or the another another that maybe the builds have hit their ceiling. I'm trying to add good players to my team and my roster this year so I can be competitive this year. Not. Not trying to bridge gap or anything until we get to 27 or 28. I'm trying to win right now. That's what you're seeing.
LaVar Arrington
Take place. Listen, if you're a Jets fan or you're listening to this, you got to find something else to do, man. Like, like there's got to be something else to do, like go apple picking in the fall. Like, like go spend your time in an orchard that doesn't have WI fi and just forget about whatever you were born into.
Jonas Knox
Cold blooded, man.
LaVar Arrington
Just telling you, man.
Jonas Knox
Like, why do you get, why are you so doom and gloom on them? Why you hate the jets so much?
LaVar Arrington
I just, I, I don't understand what all of these moves that they're making. If this was, if the approach was, hey, we know this is a rebuild. We're gonna, you know, it's a long term plan, we get it. But it's all these half measures. Like, it's never just a tear down to the studs. Let's focus on the future. We've got a plan. It's all these half measures and then all the stuff that happened with Robert Saleh. Like there's been decades of evidence that they, it doesn't work. And it's not an Aaron Glenn. This is nothing against Aaron Glenn. I just don't know that anything's going to work there. Even, even. Look, even when you did have success, you had a quarterback that wore pantyhose and another coach that had a foot fetish. Okay. Even when you did have success. So I just look at it and I go, this is a Jets problem. And if you're a Jets fan, you were probably looking at it going into this year. Hey, we understand that there's a really good quarterback draft class that's happening. We don't have the number one pick this year. So let's just understand that we're going to have to take our licks and go forward. And I guarantee you jets fans are looking at this, all these moves that they're making going, why, why, why are we doing this? When it's just going to probably cost us a better draft pick next year? We're going to be in the same situation. It's probably going to cost Aaron Glenn his job anyways and we're going to be looking at a quarterback and we won't end up with the best quarterback. And even if we do, who knows we'll be able to figure that out because we had Sam Darnold that didn't work and he just won a super. I just, it's just an underwhelming organization all the way through and I don't know how anybody would have any optimism that things are going to Change. I mean, good for those guys getting paid and it is a good market. But I don't know, man.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Well, I mean, let's assume. Let's just say Justin Fields plays 17 games this year.
LaVar Arrington
Yeah.
NFL Insider/Reporter
How many games are they going to win?
LaVar Arrington
Well, also, do we even know if
Jonas Knox
he's going to be a quarterback?
NFL Insider/Reporter
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. If he, if they do bring him back, how many games are they going to win?
LaVar Arrington
And, and, and I've heard, I think
Jonas Knox
you're looking for a long term solution at the quarterback's position. Justin Fields, in my estimation, will not be the starting quarterback for this team.
LaVar Arrington
One of the rumors I heard was that Geno Smith might be an option
Jonas Knox
of quarterback for the jets to go back.
LaVar Arrington
I mean, if I was Geno Smith, I try out for the Winnipeg Jets, I'm not playing in New York again. Why would I want to go back to that?
NFL Insider/Reporter
I mean, he's under contract for this year, but. Yeah, I don't, I don't know.
Jonas Knox
And Breeze, Breeze hall will be gone too, Right?
LaVar Arrington
But he got tagged.
Jonas Knox
Oh, they tagged him.
LaVar Arrington
Okay.
Jonas Knox
They did tag, tag.
LaVar Arrington
You're it. He's looking around going, damn it.
Jonas Knox
They will find. They. I don't know who they find. It would have been interesting if they were able to get a Malik Willis to potentially go. I mean, I think it's a horrible situation for me.
NFL Insider/Reporter
That would have been interesting.
Jonas Knox
Yeah, I think it would have been a horrible situation for Malik Willis because he would have been put in a situation where the expectation would have been far too high for what they would have potentially been able to accomplish. That's why I think the Miami move is perfect for Malik Willis. It's a perfect move.
NFL Insider/Reporter
All right, well, Halfley knows him from Green.
Jonas Knox
Who do you bring into a New York jets situation to be the quarterback in that scenario after everything that has transpired? I think that's a very, very difficult position to be in if you're the New York jets. And I think it's a very difficult position to be in if you're the player that gets brought in to do it.
LaVar Arrington
So you did the NFL draft coverage on Fox Sports Radio with Joe Douglas, who seems like a good dude, super good dud. One of the reports when he got let go from the jets, one of the reports that came out was that upon finding out he was out with the New York jets, and by the way, Joe Douglas did a very good job drafting, like he drafted some really good players there. But upon finding out that he was let go by the jets that he went, you know, to some seaside dock and he was drinking a beer and he was fishing off the edge of the dock. You know what that sounded like?
Jonas Knox
Peace.
LaVar Arrington
Relief.
Jonas Knox
Yeah, peace.
LaVar Arrington
That was like Morgan Freeman finding the box at the wall at a Shawshank. Like I can get the hell out of here. Like Joe Douglas is looking for Dufresne polishing a boat. Like, where are you? I gotta get the hell outta here, please.
Jonas Knox
It hasn't, it has not been the easiest environment to, to build in. And I'm just curious again, you bring in a high energy guy, former player, he relates to the guys. I know people like to make jokes when he does his, his sideline antics and his celebrations and then ends up losing the game. But got moves. Let me tell you something. Aaron Glenn is a player's coach. People believe and subscribe to what Aaron Glenn brings to the table. And let's see it through. I mean that's what this is all about, seeing things through. People would have said the same exact thing about the, the, the Detroit Lions. When Dan Campbell and those guys went and took over the Detroit Lions, they couldn't figure it out. And they had the best receiver and the best quarterback in one of them in, in the game and they couldn't figure out how to get to that next level with, with, with Matthew Stafford and Megatron couldn't do it. You bring in this guy and then it went, they dropped lower than that. You bring in Dan Campbell and Dan Campbell is the same type of coach that Aaron Glenn is. That's why Dan Campbell brought Aaron Glenn in with him as his D coordinator is because they have, they have very, very similar ideologies and how they approach being coaches. So to me, you got to give it a chance. There has to be a chance that's given to Aaron Glenn. And I'm not saying that to you as media. I'm saying to Woody Johnson and the people that make decisions in the building. You got to give these people a fair opportunity to build up what they need to build in order to have an opportunity to win.

Love tj.
Jonas Knox
Get some opinions from him. He was on site at, at the combine this year as well, does a lot of of development and training with with the incoming receivers quite a bit out here in California. So it'd be nice to get some, some, some words from him here here what he has to say about some of these topics.
LaVar Arrington
That position has taken over. Man, receivers get paid. If you were, if you, if you were like, if you were a dad and your kid really wanted to play running back, wouldn't you just be like hey buddy, learn how to catch.
Jonas Knox
Learn how to catch. If you're playing running back, absolutely. Other positions like you know, I think my guy's at the right position. Defensive end, edge rushers, edges are are, are in pretty, pretty big demand right now as well. So. Yeah.
LaVar Arrington
And now we welcome in the pro bowler himself, T.J. hush Menzada. You hear him Saturdays with Lavar Arrington and Plexigo Burris on up on game here on Fox Sports Radio. TJ how you doing man?

TJ we were talking about this before you came on that the receiver position has completely taken over. Now we're back in the day. Next to quarterback, running back was really the guy and that was, you know, so many teams based their offenses around the running back and now you're seeing receivers. Michael Pittman Jr. Just got traded to Pittsburgh, but they gave him a new deal upon his arrival. Alec Pierce just got, you know, 114 million or whatever it is. Where do you think the switch started to happen where the receiver position became one of the most important positions and highly paid positions on the field.
TJ Husmanzada
It's when the emphasis went to the quarterback. Really. Receivers and quarterback, you know, we hand in hand, we like feeding socks, you know, shoes and feet however you want to. They go hand in hand where if you have a good quarterback and you don't have a good receiver, your quarterback is going to have hard times to really reach ultimate success. You, you look at Josh Allen before he had Stefan Diggs, it was like, ah, he's very talented. He got Stefan Diggs. It's like why he's MVP candidate. Although he won MVP without Diggs, Diggs elevated his game. Since Diggs has left, everybody's saying Josh Allen needs what a top flight receiver. And so we, it just goes hand in hand. The quarterback needs a receiver, but the receiver also needs a quarterback. I'm happy for all these dudes, man. The amount of money that they're making is life changing. It's generational type of money and just hope everybody can stay healthy and manage their money the correct way.
Jonas Knox
Tj, we saw that Malik Willis just got picked up by the Miami Dolphins and Tua was released for as large a dead cap hit as he represented. They released them seemingly to have made way to, to bring in Malik Willis. I'm not so certain that that's what it's going to be, him being the starter, but give me some perspective on that. Do you like the move like, and what's next for Tua? You know, in your estimation, there's always
TJ Husmanzada
going to be a spot for Tua. When you're as accurate as he is. The, I mean the big worry with two is when he gets hit, is he getting up? How is he going to react? And that's all. I think that's just going to always be in the back of everyone's mind because of the incidents that he's been through and they're alarming. But if he wants to continue to play, let him play. But that accuracy, that, that throwing with anticipation and timing is always going to be a place for that again. It's just going to be itself. For Malik Willis, I, I actually thought he would end up with the Carolina, with the Arizona Cardinals because of the connection of the lafleurs. I just felt like, oh, I'm gonna let my little brother know. You gotta get him. Do everything in your power to get him. The fact that he didn't end up with the Arizona Cardinals kind of concerns me. But happily was his defensive coordinator in game bay. He saw him every day in practice, understands his work ethic and what he is and what he isn't. And so this will be an interesting pairing. I'm assuming throw the ball 20 to 25 times a game, they gonna be run heavy. Defensive coach, you got a quarterback that hasn't had a lot of starts, hasn't had a lot of pass attempts, you got to be smart with them.
LaVar Arrington
TJ who's been joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. LaVar Arrington. Jonas Knox in for calling here on the Herd. Let me ask you about keeping it with the wide receivers. I know obviously you were at the combine. Who's the best wide receiver coming out and why is, does he stand above the rest in this draft class?
TJ Husmanzada
Wow, wow, wow. You know, so you know, I mean, lavar knows this. Like I'm biased when you, when you ask me these questions, but I' ma be slightly biased and unbiased at the same time. I'm gonna give you a sleeper. And people are talking about him because of what he did at the combine. And he looked really good. He ran faster than many thought is Jacoby Lane. And I'm biased because I've been training him so I know he knows what to do, what not to do. At least he will know what to do, what not to do, when to do it, how to do it, why to do it type of thing. But Carnell Tate is the best receiver. When you, when you look at his production, you look at his route running, you look at his body control. Yeah, he ran in the four or fives, but that's fast enough with as long as you can separate. People always talk about how fast you can go, but the key is how fast can you stop. Not many people talk about that because they don't know the game. I'm giving free game up now. People gonna start talking about it, keep them up. It's the art of deceleration, not the art of acceleration. And the sooner these people understand that, they'll understand why receiver is good and why one isn't. But I like Carnell tape. But Jacoby Lane at 6 5, just over £200, with his route running ability, his quickness, he's going to be a pleasant surprise for many
Jonas Knox
Kansas City. We had the conversation on, on Saturday and I asked the question do you feel as though the window could be closing on this Kansas City Chiefs team? And I'm just curious for this audience to be able to hear your, your opinion on, on that, that matter in particular. They, you know, they, they just brought in Kenneth Walker as, as a new running back. I think it improves their, their run game, but I, I don't know how high the expectations should be with the uncertainty around the health of Patrick Mahomes or even where this, this Kansas City defense currently stands.
TJ Husmanzada
I say this with respect because of what the Chiefs have accomplished, what and who Andy Reed is as a coach and a play caller. Door shut, window closed.
Stugatz
Wow.
TJ Husmanzada
Because one Mahomes is coming off a major injury. We don't know how he's going to react to that. We don't even know when Mahomes is coming back. They're losing really good players on the defensive side of the ball, young defensive players, not old, Young. And Trent McDuffie and Jalen Watson just signed with the Rams. They don't have that receiver that we just spoke of earlier of who's going to change the game, who's going to demand respect when you're game planning to stop the Chiefs. And so I, I just look at it like it's really an uphill battle. But when you have Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, the statement that I said from the get get go, doors closed, windows shut. But that can always change because of those two guys. I just feel like it's going to be extremely hard. While the Chiefs are struggling with health and good players and retaining good players, these other teams are getting better. They're maturing. That division is going to be tough. And so I just feel like it's an uphill battle for the Kansas City Chiefs. They had their run. Can they do it again? Yeah, you can never count out Pat Mahomes and Andy Reid. But these other teams, you got to get them credit for what they're doing and what they're going to do. I believe it's curtains for the Chiefs.
LaVar Arrington
TJ who's Manzada joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, LaVar Arrington, Jonas Knox, and for calling here on the Herd, let me ask you from a receiver standpoint, if you're in the shoes of Justin Jefferson, you've seen what's gone on in Minnesota. The JJ McCarthy or LaVar calls him Nine. I call him JJ McCarthy. But from that experience and that experiment there and then you've seen what happened with Sam Darnold when he left. Kirk Cousins is out there. There's been some Kyler Murray conversations that are going on. If you were a receiver in Minnesota, what would your preference be at the quarterback position?
TJ Husmanzada
Oh, man. Competition for sure. Somebody that's going to push J.J. mcCarthy to be better. Somebody that's gone force him to have to be on his P's and Q's every practice, physically and mentally. If you're Justin Jefferson, you just, you don't want to go through another season that you just went through. Especially when you look at what a lot of other teams have done, are doing, and will continue to do. And just receivers in general, like when you come into the league, how jets came into the league, I mean, going crazy, and then you have this type of year, it's hard to get used to that. And you see your peers just balling out of control. And so for, for him, if Kyler Murray is the answer, let's go. If it's J.J. mcCarthy, let's go. I just need guys to be better. And that part that's frustrating, man. When you have the type of start to his career that he had and now it's like this. And so I, I expect competition to be brought in for JJ McCarthy. Cream always rises to the top. If he's what they thought he was when they drafted him, he gonna rise to the top.
LaVar Arrington
Do you think Kyler Murray makes sense?
TJ Husmanzada
Kyler Murray makes sense because he can get out the pocket. He's accurate. He has a good arm. Kyler Murray's only negative is he's a small guy. Kyler Murray. I don't know Kyler Murray, but I, I know people that have played with him. He's just a different dude, man. And so he's going to have to change some of his ways personally and be more of a leader, be more of a guy that people gravitate towards. Yeah, he's just gonna have to change a little bit of his. Especially when you're the quarterback. You. You must. It's a must. And if he doesn't do that, he'll be out the league very soon.
Jonas Knox
Tang, let's keep it on court.
LaVar Arrington
Sheesh.
Jonas Knox
Let's keep it. Let's keep it all receivers, let's go to your home where you're great in the. The Cincinnati Bengals. Jamar Chase had, by all accounts statistically had a great year, but it just didn't seem like it was a great year for, for this team. And it seemed like there was like some heartache and some hard, gut wrenching times. Some of the things we heard from Joe Burrow and not being happy and where they're at with things, you. You more than any body would know what the pulse is. And since Cincinnati, what, what should be the approach? How should we be looking at this Bengals team this year?
TJ Husmanzada
Man, we, we better be better. We. We. We better get some guys on defense that can stop somebody. Like, have some pride like that. Just that boggles my mind that we are all professionals and we don't have pride in what we do day in, day out on a consistent basis. Like, you nobody should be that bad defensively. Nobody, Nobody. If you have pride and you're a true professional, you, nobody should be that bad defensively where you can't stop somebody from just going up and down the field all game long. Jamar had a good year, but when you're losing, nobody has a good year. And so that's how it works. Like, you know, I seen Joe at the super bowl talk to him frustrated, and I just hope we can put a team around him because there's only so much that somebody can take. I believe he gonna get a Bengals two more years and if things don't change, and I think we will start to see a different Joe Burrow because guys want greatness. They. They want to achieve greatness. They want to reach the pinnacle. And we may not reach it every year, but just give me an opportunity to read, a real opportunity. And so I'm hoping that we can draft some guys and get some guys in free agency defensively that can help accomplish that goal.
LaVar Arrington
TJ Hushmanzada, you hear him Saturdays with LaVar Arrington and Plaxico Burris on up on game here on Fox Sports Radio. Pro Bowler wide receiver savant. And always appreciate a few minutes of your time here on the show, man.
TJ Husmanzada
Y' all the best in the business, man. Y' all keep it up, man. Y' all should be doing more of this.
Jonas Knox
Oh, please. You the man.
TJ Husmanzada
Appreciate you.
LaVar Arrington
Thanks, dj.
TJ Husmanzada
Y' all take care, fellas.
LaVar Arrington
There he is, the great TJ Husmanzada here on Fox Sports Radio. It is the Herd here on FSR. LaVar Arrington, Jonas Knox in for Colin. Coming up next here we are going to have the very latest on a big day for one organization in the NFL. Not only did they add, but they reunited with somebody in the world of sports. Find out who it is right here on fsr. Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd, weekdays at noon Eastern, 9am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio FS1 and the iHeartRadio app. It's the Herd on Fox Sports Radio. LaVar Arrington, Jonas Knox in for Colin coming up top of the next hour. A little over 15 minutes from now, we've got more from the legal tampering period in the NFL. We got moves. Teams trying to compete for playoffs next year, teams trying to make the impression that they actually care about winning next year. All sorts of fun stuff. Quarter receivers, defensive guys. I've seen some kickers and punters go off the board. I think Nick Folk just got a deal as well too. So we will have more on the latest from the tampering period in the NFL coming up top of next hour. But right now it's time for the return of Tongan Tuohy.
TJ Husmanzada
No, no, no.
Jonas Knox
Turn on the news.
LaVar Arrington
This is the Herd line news. All right, Greg.
NFL Insider/Reporter
What a time to be alive right now, guys. We got NFL free agency. We got wbc. We got tourney week and college hoops. We got NBA like this is this, this is a great time of year. Let's start it off in Kansas City. We told you last hour, Kenneth Walker is going to the Chief from Seattle. Three year deal. This is a massive, massive move for the Chiefs. But another move that happened today in Kansas City. Travis Kelce is expected to return next season for the Chiefs. Looks like it's going to be a one year deal.
Jonas Knox
Does that include Walker and wheelchair and oh, come on, automatic lift up the stairs.
LaVar Arrington
You're saying Walker because of Kenneth.
Jonas Knox
I was thinking like a Walker.
NFL Insider/Reporter
I don't think I could mentally prepare myself to see Taylor Swift anywhere else in Kansas City.
LaVar Arrington
Right.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Like I just, I couldn't do it. But here was TJ Husmanzada just a bit ago on the Chiefs outlook this season.
TJ Husmanzada
I say this with respect because of what the Chiefs have accomplished, what and who Andy Reid is as a coach and a play caller. Door shut, window closed because one Mahomes is coming off a major injury. We don't know how he's going to react to that. We don't even know when Mahomes is coming back. They're losing really good players on the defensive side of the ball. Young defensive players. Not old, Young. And Trent McDuffie and Jalen Watson just signed with the Rams. They don't have that receiver that we just Spoke of earlier of who's going to change the game, who's going to demand respect when you're game planning to stop the Chiefs.
LaVar Arrington
I mean, look, okay, it probably is closed, all right? If we're being honest, the window probably is close for the Kansas City Chiefs because what the Patriots did we're never going to see again to where the dynasty ended. They went 10 years before winning another super bowl and then they won three more. We're probably never ever going to see that again because 10 years from now, what's Patrick Rollins going to be? 40?
Jonas Knox
What's Andy Reid doing 10 years from now?
LaVar Arrington
What are you getting at? Damn.
iHeart Podcast Announcer
What?
NFL Insider/Reporter
I hope he's still coaching.
LaVar Arrington
Yeah, I think too Lavon. I hope he is. I also not surprised that Kelsey's back. I know that they wanted to make a big to do of the fact that on Christmas night he was walking off the field and he was saying goodbye to everybody and all that, but
Jonas Knox
I think that he probably could be coaching at 77.
LaVar Arrington
He came out of this year and he wasn't beat up then. He still produced. He was their best receiver last year and I think that he wanted to end his time in Kansas City with Patrick Movie Holmes and instead it was, you know, was it Chris Ola Duken was the, was the quarterback on the field there. I just, I, it made sense to me and the more that you heard him talk about the excitement, the Eric B. Enemy was back. He was excited to have Eric B. Enemy back. The more that he talked about it, the more that it felt like he was probably going to return.
Jonas Knox
That's wonderful.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Yeah, well, I was going to tell you, I'll tell you real quick. We have another, we have, we do have another big signing. But I'll tell you real quick, under the radar this morning. This happened really early. Rashawn Gary traded to the Cowboys from the Packers.
Jonas Knox
What a slap in the face.
LaVar Arrington
Damn.
Jonas Knox
If I'm a Dallas fan, I'm offended if I'm a, if I'm a Green Bay packers fan. It's just kind of, I don't know how you feel but man, you all just give away your best pass rusher and then bring in the former pass best pass rusher of the team you sent your best pass rusher to. So okay, yeah, we gave you our best pass rusher but just a season remove. We came and took talk what your best past rusher was before we gave you our best cast.
LaVar Arrington
It took a little while. They got it right.
Jonas Knox
It's fine. That's something like real like messed up love triangle type stuff going on. Right. I don't want any parts of that.
Stugatz
Yeah.
Jonas Knox
What are you doing, Joneses? What are you doing?
NFL Insider/Reporter
So this guys, this just came down. We got to give our old lineman some love. We can't forget about our old lineman now.
Jonas Knox
You can't.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Ravens free agent center Tyler Linderbaum.
Jonas Knox
No. Okay. No to the, the. No.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Raiders 3 years 81 million deal. $81 Million deal. 60 million guaranteed. Makes him the highest paid interior offensive lineman in the NFL according to Adam Shepard.
Jonas Knox
Biggest loss of the free agent period already. And I won't even suspect to think that it gets any closer than where we are now. This is the biggest loss period. The Ravens. You lost. You, you messed up on this one.
LaVar Arrington
It also messed up. Look, I was surprised they didn't tag him.
Jonas Knox
That is horrible.
LaVar Arrington
We talked about it on Friday. There was reports that they had offered him 20 million a year and he had turned it down and they didn't tag him. And so this felt like this was probably where this was headed. And so now they're going to go back and, and try and figure out the center position. But if, but if you're the Raiders, you just, you just added probably the best free agent on the market.
Jonas Knox
You did, you did.
LaVar Arrington
And.
Jonas Knox
But reference the Raiders the exact same way you reference the Jets. Do not, do not say anything positive. If you aren't going to say anything positive about the. You better handle the rate the Raiders this same exact way.
LaVar Arrington
The good news for Tyler Linderbaum is the fact that it's, that it's only a three year deal. So he's only going to be stuck there at most three years he can get out and he's going to hit the market again at 28 years old because he's only 25. So he's going to, he's going to be able to hit the market there, you know, but it is good that, you know, if they're going to draft Fernando Mendoza.
NFL Insider/Reporter
Absolutely.
LaVar Arrington
That, that, you know, you've got a center. Oh, that's right. They want to add a veteran because they want the veteran to play this next year and not the guy they're
Jonas Knox
drafting number one overall. That's, that's, that's, that's what I understand.
TJ Husmanzada
Yeah.
LaVar Arrington
But that's a loss for Baltimore, man.
Jonas Knox
That's a tremendous lot. That's the biggest L of the off season. That's a L. Big old L. Big old fat, juicy, veiny L. Bad L. Yeah. I'm glad y' all happy Raiders fans enjoy that you still got a long way to go.
LaVar Arrington
But he gives me the Leonard. Bob's gonna be sitting watching the Blue Man Group with a drink on. Why did I pick here? How did I do it? There are so many other places I could have gone, and I'm stuck here looking at this.
Jonas Knox
Look at all the lights.
iHeart Podcast Announcer
This is an I heart podcast. Guaranteed human.
Date: March 9, 2026
Hosts: LaVar Arrington, Jonas Knox (in for Colin Cowherd)
Guests: T.J. Houshmandzadeh (former NFL WR), NFL Insider/Reporter, Stugatz
This episode dives deep into the NFL’s "Legal Tampering Period" (free agency frenzy), exploring a wave of critical signings, roster moves, and shifting league power structures. LaVar Arrington and Jonas Knox openly debate the sense (and nonsense) behind teams’ approaches, with a big focus on the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, and Minnesota Vikings. Pro Bowl WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh stops by for expert insight on receiver value, the Chiefs’ future, Miami’s quarterback shakeup, and more. Expect a blend of hard football analysis, candid opinions, and playful, sometimes biting banter.
“You’re the Jets. You’re awful. Next year is going to look just like this year looked.” (10:09)
“Nobody starts at Z. Sometimes you gotta start at the beginning… can’t be committed to one thing, all you’re guaranteed is change.” (10:43)
[Begins: 28:17]
“People always talk about how fast you can go, but the key is how fast can you stop. Not many people talk about that… it’s the art of deceleration, not acceleration.” (32:44 – T.J. Houshmandzadeh)
LaVar Arrington (on the Jets):
“Even when you did have success, you had a quarterback that wore pantyhose and a coach with a foot fetish. Even then, it didn’t work out.” (16:00)
LaVar Arrington (on being a Jets fan):
“There’s gotta be something else to do, like go apple-picking… just forget about whatever you were born into.” (15:11)
Jonas Knox:
“Nobody starts at Z. Sometimes you gotta start at the beginning… let’s work our way to the end.” (10:43)
T.J. Houshmandzadeh (on Chiefs’ decline):
“Door shut, window closed. I say that with respect.” (34:26)
T.J. Houshmandzadeh (on evaluating WRs):
“It’s not the art of acceleration, it’s the art of deceleration.” (32:44)
Jonas Knox (on the Raiders’ free agent gain):
“Biggest loss of free agency already. Ravens, you lost — you messed up on this one.” (46:36)
