Let's take a deep breath, talk about something much more positive. A World Series, which I think is going to be really competitive. Everybody thinks the Dodgers, ah, they're Toronto. Vlad Springer starting pitching, home field advantage. Toronto is a handful. And Dave Roberts, manager of the Dodgers, is joining us live. The, you know, it's interesting. We all know in baseball. Good to see you again, Skip. Great to see you, Dave, as always. We all know in baseball that, you know, momentum is the next day's pitcher, but there are little bits of wisdom you can take, even though every postseason run is different. Last year you guys were up against it. I mean, I can remember bullpen games against the Padres and I'm like, I'm not sure the Dodgers are getting out of this series. You've been more dominant this year. Is there anything, though, Dave, you can take from last year's playoff run, little notes or bits of wisdom and say, guys, remember that from last year to.
Dave Roberts
This year, you know what I, I think what it comes down to and, and I think a lot of people talk about, I, I absolutely agree with your momentum is next day, starting pitcher and certainly the Blue Jays have got some momentum. I feel we've got momentum. I, I think what I've taken away is the urgency of it. And how do you get to the urgency piece? And I think the way I frame it to our guys is we're in a street fight. And I think that when you have that street fight mentality that lends itself to urgency and every pitch, every play and you, you know, kind of take the momentum, embrace it and don't let off the gas. And I think right now, if you see our ball club play, we're playing with that street fighter mentality mentality versus that kind of seasoned boxing mentality.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. You know, it's funny, the Blake Snell, Yoshi. So I went on the air, full disclosure, I said, I love Dave Roberts. I would have let Snell go because I just want to win the first game of the series. I don't care, Yoshi. I said, okay, we got one in the bag. I go to the pen on that. I thought it was really cool for you to come out and say some of this is gut feeling, guys. I'm sitting there on the steps. So let's talk a little bit about that. Because baseball managers, it doesn't. It could be you or Aaron Boone. It could be anybody. You guys get criticized for those moments. It's the seventh. It's that. That's when all of us think we should be manager. What is that guy doing for you? You mentioned that you were watching Snell or you watch Yossi. Do you talk to him during a game or do you want to stay away from that? Is it kind of a body language sense on I'm going to let him go or I'm going to pull him?
Dave Roberts
It's. It's a knowing the player. It's knowing. It's knowing the player. I mean, that's my job, essentially. And I think the thing is, is that, you know, my job is to know my players. I definitely don't get it right all the time, but I feel like my process and kind of how I know how to manage guys for the short. The long term is pretty sound. I think the great thing, Colin, about baseball is because if you look at, you know, basketball is so quick. You can't coach basketball in real time. You can't change defense. As a fan, right? Football, you could probably do it a little bit, but baseball is something where every fan has that opportunity to essentially manage. But I do feel like trusting my players, knowing my players, knowing my coaches. I've got a sound process, but I was right there with you. And then that Blake Snow thing was 50 50. And you, you know, right now we're watching Roki and to put him in the pen, that's a gut feeling that I feel like I can trust him in big spots where that wasn't easy. And right now, you know, I trust my players. I love my players, and I think, again, we're playing good baseball.
Colin Cowherd
It's interesting. I said before the playoffs, I said, in my lifetime, I've seen teams with great bullpens win the World Series. I think the Royals years ago had it and they didn't have necessarily great roster, but if they led in the six, they won the game. I said, I've never seen a team with a shaky bullpen win a World Series. I said, I don't think the Dodgers can. And then suddenly the bullpen gets solved. Roki moves to the bullpen. Take me to the part in the season, it could have been you and Andrew Friedman. It could have been you and your pitching coaches and talking that you just decided, listen, we got to make some alterations. We got to pivot here. He's young, he's got great stuff. We're gonna, we're gonna move him. Like, were those ongoing or was there an epiphany or a moment that you just said, we can't win a pennant with this current bullpen. How did that process work?
Dave Roberts
You know what? I think that, okay, there's two parts of this. I think with Roki, if you look back at April, where you see there were visuals, photographs of him, you know, teary eyed in the penny, you know, just distraught, disappointed, scared, worried, all that stuff, right? And then so just trying to get him back to health, trying to nurse his mindset, his physical being back was number one. And then as he kind of made his way back and trying to build him up, appreciating the fact that we've already had enough starters, so we weren't going to use him in that starter role. And, and then going to him with me and Andrew and the pitching guys and said, hey, man, you have an opportunity if you want to take on a bullpen role. Don't know what the role is going to look like. This is an opportunity for you to impact 2025 and basically write your 2025 season. He was like, I'm in. And then so we look at the calendar, we had literally two opportunities in the regular season to give him an opportunity to pitch out of the pen for us, it showed really well. And then I think in the Cincinnati Wild Card series, there's a spot that I was like, you know what? We're either going to sink or swim. We got to see what it looks like. And I ran him out there, he performed, and then from then, it's just like the rest is history. He started getting some momentum, and even in that Philly. No, I think it was the. I don't know if it was a Brewer outing where it didn't look good, or the Philly outing. And, you know, I was determined to run him back out there and not run from him so he could kind of keep that confidence. And so I give the organization, Roki, a lot of credit for kind of riding the ship. And then the other part of it is, like, when you're looking at the postseason, you're trying to get the best arms you can for the postseason. So, you know, using Glass now out of the pen, using Emmett Sheehan out of the pen. So it wasn't really kind of what girl brought us to the dance as far as the pen is who we're going to go with. But at the end of the day, though, Colin, I've said it. We're going to go with our best arms. And if you can get your best arms, and right now, our best arms, the starting pitchers, if those guys can take down the most outs, we're going to be in a good spot.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. It's funny about analytics. I, I, the term I always use is manalytics, because I think in baseball, when the postseason comes, the numbers are the numbers. But there are moments when you're like, I may used to have. I may, I may have to use a starter in the pen. Guys, all hands on deck. So do you find yourself with analytics? They're still important. But like I said, we say this about the NBA. The referees stop calling fouls in the postseason. So the analytics get all screwed up. They just let him wrestle. And all of a sudden you don't get to the free throw line in baseball. You don't. You manage differently in the postseason. I mean, you want Snell going. I mean, to me, I watch you and I'm like, you wouldn't have let Yoshi go. You would have gone to the pen if that game's in June, would you not?
Dave Roberts
Absolutely. It's funny, is that word analytics. And I somehow got tied to analytics. And I don't use my eyes or my gut, but I think that I managed and I watched the game. And so I think in the postseason, I'm not saying put analytics aside, but you've got to bet on players, you've got to bet on people, and you've got to bet on heartbeat. And in that moment, I do think that analytics, the place for analytics for me is the law. Long haul. 162.
Colin Cowherd
Yes. Yes.
Dave Roberts
@ the end of the day, it plays out. But when you're talking about one moment in time, is that pitcher going to get that hitter out? Is that hitter going to get a hit or take a good at bat against that pitcher? Or are there nine guys that I'm running out there do I feel has the best chance to score runs against that particular pitcher? That is the, that's a coin flip. That's heads or tails. And that's what I bet on. You know, that's how I manage in the postseason.
Colin Cowherd
Well, we've seen this also. I thought it was interesting. The Mariners had Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh at the top of their order and Shohei Ohtani obviously leading off. And I've said this, I zone in on baseball during the postseason. In the regular season, it's almost like the radio sound of my summer. I have the games on. I'm in and out of stuff. There does in my. When I grew up, I mean, you had Johnny Bench was batting cleanup, Pudge is batting cleanup. Right. Like, you have your big Barry Bonds, three or four now you got power guys hitting toward the top of the lineup, which I would imagine is they get more at bats. But it is interesting how. I mean, that's my take is I want Ohtani up as much as I can get him. Do you love that or is just that the reality of the way the game is played? Because I kind of love my big bombs, you know, I don't want, you know, I like him in the 3, 4, 5 spot. How do you land on that?
Dave Roberts
I love the way. And I think for me, it's like anything where you want to continue to evolve and grow. Where when I was growing up, as you were, same time period, Shohei would be hitting, you know, three or four. But I think that the way that understanding that you want to get your best hitters as many at bats as possible, that's how you win baseball games. And I can tell, you know, Bruce Bochy right now or Jim Tracy right now, he should hit me leadoff versus Randy Johnson. You know, if I were to play center field, I should have hit nine. And those are things that you've got to evolve. And Johnny Bench facing Nolan Ryan, maybe Johnny could have hit fifth or sixth, and maybe, you know, but that's the way the game has evolved. And I do think that you got to kind of appreciate that.
Colin Cowherd
And.
Dave Roberts
And so I just don't want to be beholden to one lineup. I think our guys have evolved, but I do feel that, you know, having showy at the top, Mookie too, I flip, flip Freddie and Will Smith, Teo and things like that, because then it's kind of, you know, the little. We can go deeper. Colin, you know, where it's like you get a tough lefty to give a tax to get to Freddie a third time. Those are little nuances of setting the lineup. But I do think that having your best hitters take the most at bats makes sense.
Katie Couric
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
And by the way, it does help that Mookie and Sh also have wheels so they can move. That helps as well. By the way, my favorite Dave Roberts moment. You're a very humble guy, but this piece of audio made me laugh. Let's play it.
Dave Roberts
Oh, this is a one team, one dream operation. And I'll tell you, before this season started, they said, the Dodgers are ruining baseball. Let's get four more wins and really ruined baseball. Let's go.
Colin Cowherd
Come on, Dave. That's funny. I like that, Dave. And it's okay, right?
Dave Roberts
It's okay. You know, here's the thing, is that everyone trolls me. And so I figured, you know what? I'm going to flip it on its head and troll some people that are trying to create this crazy narrative that the Dodgers ruining baseball. I will tell you this, Colin. And you know this baseball viewership is at an all time high. Baseball players are better than they've ever been. We are going to have more eyeballs watching this World Series than ever because of the country of Canada, the US and Japan and beyond. Right. So obviously the Dodgers are not ruining baseball. It's in a great state. And I was just kind of taking a dig at these crazy people that say that what we do and I think we do it really well. We're ruining baseball. So that was my little digit.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, I. By the way, I said this. Tommy Edmond was hitting 265 for the Cardinals. You got him. He becomes the NLCS MVP. Max Muncie was cut by the A's. Now he leads the Dodgers in all time home runs. This idea that it's not just, it's just money, it's research, it's development, it's scouting, it's managing. I've always said that the most. I said this earlier today. There's an anti Californian sentiment in this country. Sometimes everybody picks on California. The weather's great, the mountains, the beaches. The truth is it's a very likable team. I believe the reason Roki will take a bullpen roll, I truly believe this is because he knows there's no ego. And he knows you could go to Shohei and say, I'm batting you third tonight, I'm bat. I think you've created, I've said this. The Yankees or the Astros, you can hate those guys. This is not a hateable team. And I think to some degree, I think Roki says, yeah, I'll do it. And part of it is that's the culture that you've created, is it not?
Dave Roberts
It is, Colin. And that's the biggest compliment I can get because we have great players, we have a great organization. But I feel that in the long season to be really good every year, to have guys buy in is what a lot of head coaches and managers talk about. To get superstars to buy into whatever you ask of them and to be selfless, that's the secret sauce. And for me as a manager that's something I'm really proud of. So I appreciate you bringing that to life.
Colin Cowherd
Finally, just one more. I'm only going to ask. It's not a favor, but just consider if you've got an open base. The game is tied and George Springer's coming up. Just consider walking him. Just consider that you don't have to pitch to him. I'm not pointing fingers at anybody, but Toronto is really good. I mean, I know you've watched, you've watched them. I think this matchup you've got, there's what concerns you about the Jays.
Dave Roberts
You know what they, they're really athletic. I, I think that you, you mentioned Springer, who's a big game player. He's on a heater right now. Had a great, you know, last couple months. That guy right there, Vladimir, scares the heck out of me. And they're just a gritty group. They're very similar to our club and they're tough. I think Ross Atkins, I think Marsha Power, they've done a great job with this club. And you know, Savage, we don't know him, so there's some unfamilia 30 there. But like you said, it's going to be a great series. Joe Davis, I talked to the other day said he's never heard a louder stadium than he heard here at the Rogers Center. So it's going to be a lot of fun. It's going to be great. I think the city has been waiting a long time for this and, you know, I'm looking forward to. It's gonna be a lot of fun.
Colin Cowherd
Thanks for giving us 15 minutes. Dave Roberts, always so great to our show and I appreciate it, Skip.
Dave Roberts
All right, thank you. Appreciate you calling.
Colin Cowherd
All right, Dave Roberts, I think it's going to be a really good World Series. I think it's a really interesting story that he talks about Roki, that he went to him, he and Andrew Friedman, the pitching coach and hey, will you come out of the pen? And he said, I'll do it. And I think that's the culture. I said it earlier. There have been hateable teams. I mean, I. You go back to that Mets team with Lenny Dykstra. There have been the characters everywhere. This isn't one of those teams. It's like good guys. All right, Greg Cosell, Dave Roberts, Chris Simms today and that NBA story. B r-I k.com on the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric. I sat down with Bernie Sanders, who is 84 years old, has spent 34 years in Congress, and he can still pack a rally with people a quarter of his age.
Colin Cowherd
Denver, 34,000 people come out. Salt Lake City, 20,000 people. You know, huge turnouts. People are really dissatisfied about the status quo.
Katie Couric
His Fighting Oligarchy tour with AOC and other young progressives has become a movement. But is his message too far to the left? Well, he certainly doesn't think so.
Colin Cowherd
Does that sound like a radical idea, Judy? Is that too far left for you?
Katie Couric
Okay, okay, wait, wait. I get your point, Bernie. We talk about the billionaire class, the cost of living, and of course, the government shutdown. Not to mention the current state of the Democratic Party.
Colin Cowherd
To me, the failure of the Democratic Party has been an unwillingness to recognize the real issues.

You know, I knew there was a good reason I never enjoyed poker. Just a boring guy. Okay.
Greg Cosell
It's not that you're bad at it, right?
Colin Cowherd
And I just don't like going down to people's basements. I watch Silence of the Lambs. I don't go down steps. I'll go upstairs. I don't go downstairs unless it's my home.
Greg Cosell
So what about with friends?
Colin Cowherd
No.
Greg Cosell
No relatives?
Colin Cowherd
No.
Greg Cosell
Come on.
Colin Cowherd
No. Main floor, upstairs? No. Downstairs, nothing but trouble happens downstairs. I'm reading these. I'm reading the FBI accusations on the poker stuff. Oh, my Lord. It's. It's.
Greg Cosell
By the way, you mentioned rounders a couple times today. How many times have you watched that movie? Like maybe 15. It's amazing.
Colin Cowherd
But, no, I'll tell you, I've watched Casino 4 or 5.
Greg Cosell
Casino is very good.
Colin Cowherd
Good, fellas. Multiple times. The Irishman's twice. It's long, but it's great.
Greg Cosell
I thought that was like four hours. You.
Colin Cowherd
You watched that? Yeah.
Dave Roberts
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Oh, wow. Yeah. J. Mac with the news.
Dave Roberts
No, no, no.
Colin Cowherd
Turn on the news.
Greg Cosell
This is the Herd line news. All right, let's talk Aaron Rodgers. Colin. The big matchup on Sunday night. Football. Packers, Steelers, Rogers battling his former team for the first time. Earlier this week, we heard from Matt LaFleur, who said the game should just be about the two teams and not Rodgers. Well, Aaron Rodgers addressed the matchup with the media.
Dave Roberts
Again, it would feel different if it was going back to Green Bay.
Katie Couric
I have a lot of love for.
Colin Cowherd
The organization, but, you know, if we.
Dave Roberts
Were playing Lambeau, that would be a little different feeling for sure. I don't have any animosity toward the organization, Obviously.
Colin Cowherd
I wish that, you know, things have been better in our last year there.
Dave Roberts
But, you know, I have a great.
Colin Cowherd
Relationship with a lot of people still in that organization, and this is not a revenge game for me. I'm just excited to see some of those guys. Well, I think he wants to win it slightly more. He wants to win every game they moved off him. You know, if some.
Greg Cosell
Well, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. Didn't for like two or three straight summers, he was like, I don't know if I want to come back. Darkness Retreat.
Colin Cowherd
Well, yes, but they eventually, he said he was surprised when he came from the Darkness Retreat. He said he was surprised they let him go. I was floored.
Greg Cosell
Emerging from the darkness Retreat that the.
Colin Cowherd
Organization didn't let play. So, yeah, listen, he didn't love them drafting Jordan Love in the first round. I get all that stuff. I will say in defense of Aaron, he always treated Jordan Love more hospitably than Favre treated Aaron. I thought Aaron showed. Aaron was a good teammate. You don't have to be, by the way, if somebody. If a team drafts somebody to replace you, you don't have to be. Your job is to win Sunday. Aaron was always more classy and hospitable than Favre was to Aaron.
Greg Cosell
All right, let's move on to story number two, and that is the biggest. There's a matchup. I'm still into this. Colin. Eagles Giants Sunday on Fox. Obviously, Jackson Dart beat the Eagles, humiliated them recently, just two weeks ago on Thursday Night Football. Now he has to go to Philadelphia. Colin. And a great Jackson Dart is going to the link. Here's what his teammate, wide receiver Darius Slayton, wants him to know ahead of the matchup.
Dave Roberts
If he didn't have any haters, he'll find about where they all live. You know, he's about to get introduced to all of them. But, you know, it's still just football, you know, obviously, especially, you know, he's an SEC kid like me, and, you know, you play in that conference, you know, it's the same way going to those away stadiums. And honestly, that's what makes it great. You know, that, that competitive fire.
Colin Cowherd
I, I will say the best thing Jackson Dart has going for him, Lane Kiffin, multiple years in a talent rich NFL rich sec. And I think it matters. I don't think it's as big a leap going from the SEC defenses and Lane Kiffin, then coming from a conservative offense and the Mountain West, I think, you know, I mean, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes had to catch up to NFL speed. You play at Ole Miss and you're playing Alabama, Georgia, Florida. I think the Lane Kiffin component to this has helped him. He came in here, I mean, even in the preseason, you remember that the first time we saw him play, our take was, oh, he's kind of ready to play.
Greg Cosell
He's interesting.
Colin Cowherd
He's an interesting player.
Greg Cosell
Let me ask you, I know you love Caleb Williams, but who do you think has a better next five years, Caleb Williams or Jackson Darton?
Colin Cowherd
Well, Caleb Williams because he's going to have Ben Johnson, whereas, well, I mean, Brian Dabel. Well, we don't know Chop liver. We, we don't know Josh Allen.
Greg Cosell
He kind of made Josh.
Colin Cowherd
New York football teams do not keep coaches. So I don't trust New York football teams. I trust the Bears to keep Ben Johnson. I think it's been established six games in, seven games in. Ben's the right coach.
Greg Cosell
So the thing about Jackson Dart is he runs around a lot like Caleb Collins, but from what I've seen the limited sample size, he's actually throwing the ball and with accuracy. When he's scrambling around like Johnny Manziel back there, Caleb runs around and then like he's not really making plays with his arm. Dart has surprised me in that aspect. Are you noticing this?
Colin Cowherd
Well, there's a show. We'll show you right here. There's one of these completions. I think it's the one right here. Look at this.
Greg Cosell
He's got his head up, eyes up the whole time.
Colin Cowherd
That ball could have been picked. I mean, the truth is, in the NFL, unlike college, you are throwing to people that aren't open. That's rare. When you see that video for a TV audio, that doesn't happen. Most of it is you're throwing to, you know, a sideline, hoping a guy gets there or you're throwing in traffic. So I mean, a lot of NFL throw like this throw right here is what NFL throws look like a lot, which is you're throwing it. I mean, that's a seed, but you're throwing it to a guy that's covered. So it's just. That's why I think playing in a Big Ten or an SEC when you can go against NFL first round DBs at Georgia and have Lane Kiffin, I think Jackson is a year ahead of schedule because of that. I think it's most college sports. Football doesn't prepare you great for the NFL. Lane Kiffin plus the SEC does.
Katie Couric
Yeah.
Greg Cosell
Final story Con. Let's go to the NBA fun game last night. Listen, I mentioned last week the Sixers are going to be spicy this season. And if you watched any of this game, VJ Edgecomb, the young rookie out of Baylor, oh my gosh, he was incredible. 34 points in his debut, the most in a debut since Wilt Chamberlain in 1959.
Colin Cowherd
Wow.
Greg Cosell
He had 14 in the first quarter. This kid's got some juice. Oh my gosh. Here is Edgecombe talking about his debut in the NBA.
Colin Cowherd
It's amazing. I must say. It's amazing. I mean, but you know, I have a, you know, hopefully, man, God's gonna have a long career ahead of me. You know, that's what matter most, man. Longevity. No, no one bond who's been there for 20 plus years. No. I'm hoping that I can do that one day, you know, but it's coming. Putting in work. But like it feels great to have my name messenger. LeBron, by the way. Now two guards can lead the Sixers. Finally, Daryl Morey can be guard driven. I'm done with the Embiid stuff. I don't. They're different players, but watching him last night, it reminds me they're totally different players of Jaylen Brown when he was out of Cal and went to the Celtics. And I remember watching him once or twice in college and thinking, that dude is physically strong and quick. And when that Jaylen Brown kid out of Cal can learn to kind of polish his offensive game well, I mean, this guy again, when you watch him run the floor, look at his body type like he's an. He's a pro athlete. I didn't know he dropped 34. But what I like about it from the Sixers standpoint is, okay, Tyrese Maxey and this kid, that's the future. Let's stop clinging to finger crossing with Embiid's health. I think that's exciting if you're a Sixer fan.
Greg Cosell
Yeah. Embiid on a bit of a minutes restriction. Colin. 20 minutes. He had four points. I believe it was two of nine shooting. It's over. Like we.
Colin Cowherd
What's the story on number 77.
Greg Cosell
I. I'm not aware of what spring training.
Colin Cowherd
Is he a left handed middle reliever? What. What's going on here?
Greg Cosell
I don't know, but I'm just telling you they also got the young kid McCain from Duke. He was injured last year. He's very good. Paul George eventually will come back. I think they're going to be spicy in the east which is down a little bit this year. Except for of course your Orlando Magic.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, well, you know what I noticed the first two nights this was a really good NBA draft. Yeah, that's what I noticed. And we've. You and I have talked about this. This draft this past year is the beginning of a new trend where NIL is allowing some of the really good players. Now Cooper flag didn't just stay maybe an extra year and European stars. College basketball is now buying the best young Spaniards and the best young European players. They talked about shuttering a Spanish league. So what does that mean? College basketball now is going to have about 10 European players that wouldn't have been in college basketball three years ago. They're also getting about six to seven guys that could go to the NBA. Maybe second round, late first round. They'll stay in college and be a star at Xavier or whatever the program is. So you're going to have about 15 guys going forward that either weren't college basketball players or would have left now in the sport. So college basketball, I noticed it this year in March Madness. The quality of play was better, the games were better. There were more NBA athletes in college basketball and it's helped the draft. And if you watch the first two nights you're when you could come into the NBA and drop 34 against the.
Greg Cosell
Celtics who have Derrick White on the perimeter and good defensive players. I'll just add. I love that you're already talking college basketball. The sport tips off next month.
Colin Cowherd
I know.
Greg Cosell
Listen, we love baseball. The World Series once baseball's done right to college hoops.
Colin Cowherd
Colin, I'll let you carry that, by the way. Here's the story. His favorite number is seven, but that was taken so he doubled it with 77.
Katie Couric
Okay.
Greg Cosell
That's a great gambling number as well, right?
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. He'll be pitching the fifth and sixth inning for the the Phillies next year. He's a middle reliever in spring training. J. Mack with the news. Well, that's the news and thanks for stopping by the herd lie news. What a day. What a crazy loony day when we have Cash Patel sound on our show. B r-I k.com on the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric. I sat down with Bernie Sanders, who is 84 years old, has spent 34 years in Congress and he can still pack a rally with people a quarter of his age.
Does that sound like a radical idea? Is that too far left for you?
Katie Couric
Okay, okay, wait. I get your point, Bernie. We talk about the billionaire class, the cost of living and of course the government shutdown, not to mention the current state of the Democratic Party.
Colin Cowherd
To me, the failure of the Democratic Party has been an unwillingness to recognize the real issues.

Tomorrow the World Series begins on FOX as Shohei Ohtani and the reigning champion Dodgers take on Vlad Jr. And the Blue Jays. Game one of the World Series coverage begins tomorrow at 7 Eastern on Fox. And before the game you can check out Shohei Ohtani's interview with Kevin Burkhart. Here's a clip.
Colin Cowherd
Shohei now it's Hawk World Series having played in it last year for the first time. What lessons did you take from that that you'll apply to this year's World? Yep, I think adding the Blue Jays, Canada's best, is going to add to it. I don't buy for a second it hurts baseball to have a dynasty. NBA's got seven champs in seven years. A lot of the dominant tennis players, Yokovic and Nadal, Federer, a Serena are not dominating tennis. We don't have a dynasty in the NFL. We don't have a dominant Alabama team winning every year. It's okay if we have one extremely well run baseball team that is well capitalized. Crushing. And I had I said that to Dave Roberts earlier. I said do you think the Dodgers are ruining baseball?
Dave Roberts
Baseball viewership is at an all time high. Baseball players are better than they've ever been. We are going to have more eyeballs watching this World Series than ever because of the country of Canada, the US And Japan and beyond. Right. So obviously the Dodgers are not ruining baseball. It's in a great state. And I was just kind of taking a dig at these crazy people that say that what we do, and I think we do it really well, we're ruining baseball. So that was my little dig.
Colin Cowherd
And I, you know, listen, there's, there's. I mean, you, you watch television there, There is sort of an anti California sentiment and it's, you know, it's got great weather and the economy's massive. People when I live there are happy. They honk less in traffic. Mountain ranges, desert. It's beautiful. I tried to talk J. Mac into coming into Chicago and he wasn't going to have any of it. But we put together a Dodgers ad on why LA is so great.
Dave Roberts
California.
Colin Cowherd
We've got stars in the sky, stars on the ground, mountains up high, a paradise found, a beautiful sea where you'll live like a king. Come for the winds and stay for the ring.
Greg Cosell
It's California.
Colin Cowherd
Are you jealous? Of course you are.
Greg Cosell
California.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, I mean, it's.
Greg Cosell
You need to put that on social media, Colin. Come on. That is chum in the water for these social. The angry social media mob. That's really funny.
Colin Cowherd
You know, you and I have always, I would say, kind of pivoting here because the news of the day was the NBA story with the FBI is. You know, I've always felt in this business, I think one of the reasons you and I connected very early is I always felt even before the Supreme Court ruling to legalize gambling in America, it's rolled out. It's legal in almost every state. As I say, we've seen it with cannabis in America. I think there's limitations to both. I don't think kids should be smoking pot every day. I don't think as their brain develops, it's good. And I think there are some rules. I mean, you know, I've. You and I, I'm pro gambling, but there are rules. I'm pro drinking. I don't drink and drive. Society has rules. They don't ask a lot of us. Don't get bombed and step into a car. Take Uber. Don't gamble if you're a professional athlete on your own league or, you know, the rules are very simple. It's not asking people a lot. So. And I see all the moralists today are like, oh, this is what happens. No, it doesn't. By the way, gambling has been legalized in Europe forever. You don't have English Premier League players all Getting in trouble. These leagues don't ask much. They state very clearly, no betting on this. This, this, you can bet on this. This, this make people culpable. Again, I am for legal alcohol. There are simple rules. Do not get bombed in a car. There are places and times modify. Be a moderate drinker. Modify your intake. So, you know, today is one of those classic days is you should feel guilty. Not at all. I was pro gambling before today. Pro gambling today, pro gambling tomorrow. There are rules. Follow them. The rules explicitly tell you, don't do this. And as far as playing poker games downstairs, good luck, I wouldn't do it. I think it's risky. And, and if you, you know, if you're, if you've made 100 million in your career and you need poker games to make ends meet, then, then that's on you. Yeah, that's not on whatever gambling service is paying a network. I mean, and I've been totally consistent with this. Yeah, I don't have an obsessive personality. Some people do. But the rules are clear and they state specifically, don't do this, don't bet on that. It's up to you to figure it out. Don't touch a hot stove. You learn it when you're five. There are rules in life.
Greg Cosell
What happened to personal responsibility? It's like, listen, I love the NBA. I bet on the spurs last night. But peanuts. I'm not going to put in $5,000 on an NBA game in the regular season. If you do that, that's on you. I mean, we don't know what's happening in these baseball, basketball, football. Like, there's a lot of stuff happening.
Dave Roberts
That you don't know about.
Greg Cosell
Like the idea that you're putting that much money on $10,000 on games.
Colin Cowherd
Come on, really, free societies allow people to make poor choices. Yeah, most people don't. You know, when stories like this come out, my takeaway is Chauncey Billups is really in the poker part of it. There's one player, Terry Rozier, that is in the basketball part of it. And then I think Damon Jones is both. Terry Rozier, by the way, cleared by the NBA months ago. So it's not a large swath of players. It's not star players. And even Chauncey Billups, he's on the poker side.
Greg Cosell
Unless. Unless Billups, who's. Who was coaching, unless that bleeds in for like, you know, tanking or whatever and saying stuff at poker games. Colin, I just want to remind people, like, I think the saying is you can indict a ham sandwich. You've heard that saying, right? Yeah, yeah, that's the phrase. Like, that's what this is, an indictment. Okay, let's see what else comes. Maybe these guys are guilty and they got them dead to rights. Or they're not. We'll find out. Like, you don't have to overreact about, oh my gosh, gambling's killing sports leagues. I'm seeing a lot of that. And I don't know that I agree with that.
Colin Cowherd
No, I don't. And I never have. And I've had precious members of the media say I'm disappointed with your take. Oh, settle down. Lighten up. Just stop being so neurotic and anxiety ridden. And the. I mean, good God. I was told six months ago the tariffs will ruin the economy. And my take was the pandemic didn't. We'll get through a tax, we'll be fine.
Greg Cosell
Okay, I don't know about that one, but Cook, go ahead.
Colin Cowherd
The constant needing to. It's the end of times. Listen, it's a weird story. The NBA has taken Chauncey Billups, who's in that poker thing and Terry Rozier for the time being off they had cleared Rozier. Let it play out. They're just an indictment. They're just accusations. But there's a lot of things I'm for in moderation or in certain spaces. All these leagues tell you, don't bet on this, don't say this, don't do that. There's 12 words I can't use on the air. I avoid them. And I'm talking every day for three hours. We've all got rules to abide by. The Toyota certified Used Vehicle Sales event is. Here. It is packed with great surprises. Choose from a wide selection of low mileage vehicles all backed by Toyota, with warranties that begin on the date of purchase. Because when it comes to quality, the best new cars make the best used cars. So don't miss your chance. Find your certified Toyota today, but hurry. These Great offers end November 3rd.
