Now let's get this party started.
Jason McIntyre
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. You know, a lot of times, especially in pro football, because you've got a billionaire owner and a coach making between nine and a half and 14 and a half million, and you've got a quarterback making 300 million. There's, you know, there. We all know who's got the power in the NFL. It's the owner, it's the star coach, and it's the star quarterback. GM's Howie Roseman is a total exception. Even John Snyder almost threatened to leave Seattle as one of the top personnel guys unless he got more power. And then Pete got pushed out. So in the NFL, we. We know who has the power in the league. Like in college football, the coach has it. Always the coach has it or the big donor has it. But in the football, you know, there's an old business saying, a problem well defined is a problem half solved. The bigger issue in the NFL isn't who has the power. I mean, we know with the Chargers, it's the owner of the Spanos family, Jim Harbaugh, and Herbert. Herbert just doesn't use it. But in the NFL, a lot of times, it's not who has the power, it's what's the problem. You have a problem when people can't agree on what the problem is. You know, the coach didn't. He wasn't hired by the gm like in Chicago. Right now, everybody thinks the problems. Caleb Williams, I would argue the problem of the Bears is the ownership and the executive suite. I think the quarterback's really talented, and I think the coach is really smart. You know, you can't get agreement. Howie Roseman has so much control in Philadelphia. He will decide what the problems are and he will address them. I think with Kansas City, you know, we know everybody can agree what the problem is because Brett Veach is a good GM and Andy Reid's a brilliant coach, and Mahomes is one of the greatest ever. We just know it's a personnel issue on offense, they've missed on a couple receivers. Travis Kelsey's old and expensive. Mahomes is expensive, so. And receivers a hard position to draft, even when they got it right. With Rasheed Rice, he does something that's not very smart. And now he's suspended for six games. And then you get worthy. And he's really good, but he's small. Runs into Kelsey and he gets hurt. So a lot of Kansas City's issues are we know who has the power and we know it's not scheme. I think you have to just. Everybody in the room has to go. Our problem is here. We don't have good enough players. Dave Wanstadt has a belief on how to correct it, but again, I don't know if they have the personnel to correct what Dave Wonstad, who was our guest earlier, has as a solution. That Eagles super bowl, when they were.
Colin Cowherd
Behind by 10 at halftime and Mahomes.
Jason McIntyre
Was limping and they came out the second half and what did they do? They ran the ball with Pacheco, remember?
Colin Cowherd
And that's how they won the Super Bowl.
Jason McIntyre
They ran the football. I was, I thought that that would, Andy Reid would get back to that more. What's the easiest thing to do to help your quarterback run the ball? And they just haven't really made a big, in my mind, a big commitment to running the football. And my question is, will they let Joe Tunney go? They couldn't afford Joe Tuney. Well, Joe Tuney has made the Bears better up front and his loss is significant. So, I mean, for the record, when, I mean, you could probably go look this up. When Tuney left the Patriots, their own line wasn't as good. And Tuney left the Chiefs and their own lines not as good. And the Bears O line this year is better than last year. So when you have one of the, you know, one of the two or three best interior blockers in Joe Tuney, a tough guy, a smart guy, a leader, I don't think they can run the ball. I think Kansas City this week, if you gave me three points, I would take the Chiefs at home at two and a half, stay away. But I mean, right now, the Kansas City Chiefs leading rusher is Mahomes. And that's the problem. They don't want that to be the case because Mahomes more than once in his career has got banged up and he's limping around. He's not at 100%. I mean, Jalen Hurts had that for about a year before Saquon Barkley. You remember that. Before Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts felt like he was playing at about 80% for two years. And then they get Saquon Barkley and now Jalen Hurts feels like he's been healthy for a good year and a half, two years. So they don't want Mahomes to be the leading rusher. I think. I just don't. I don't think it's sustainable to have your quarterback as a leaning rusher. I don't think they want it, but I think it's. And this is not a knock on the gm. You pay the quarterback, you. And they've also, you got to pay Chris Jones. Kelsey gets paid, Mahomes gets paid. They didn't want to let Go of Joe Tuney. That was, that was not what they wanted to do. Watch their games. There's no juice. You watch Seattle last night, you see juice. I mean even Arizona, I see players. I just don't see the leadership. So that's where we are, you know. J. Mac, I have an ask you your NFL picture at the end of the show. I generally take the home team in college football when there are two good teams. I think the interesting one to me is Ohio State and Washington. So Washington is unranked. They should be ranked, but they're unranked. Ohio State's number one. Husky Stadium's an advantage. What's sneaky about that game is Julian saying the quarterback for Ohio State is young. He has never played on the road in this environment. He played Texas, but he was at home. He's very good, great high school player. I It's just hard to see an unranked team beat the number one team in the country. And Ohio State's got the recruiting and the nil rolling.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. Let me ask you, Colin, that Ohio State win over Texas at the moment initially looked great. What about in hindsight? Texas has been middling against directional state universities the last like three weeks. Do we know if Texas is that good? Well, again, I'm not bashing Ohio State at all. I'm just starting to question that Texas win the same way lsu, Clemson, like that LSU win looked great. Now it's like Clemson ain't great. What's the big deal?
Jason McIntyre
No, I mean Ohio State running back room was much better last year. They were much more explosive out of the backfield last year. There's no question. I think Ohio State was a much better team last year. I also think a lot of the complimentary offensive players get drafted like Ibuka and now Smith, the superstar wide receiver. Teams are much more capable of doubling him and bracketing him that you couldn't last year. You had him on one side, the freshman, you have a book on the other side you just are just. And they had an unbelievable backfield. So you couldn't cheat. I mean last year when you played Ohio State you could not cheat. Like it was just first rounder on that side, first rounder on the other side, two elite running backs, experienced quarterback. O line got banged up but it was good. So it was a hard team to. Even if you had Tennessee athletes, if you had Texas athletes, Ohio State was hard to face last year. You couldn't cheat. They're not as dynamic in the backfield. Ibuka is a big loss. He would be for any program. So they're talented, but they don't feel as dynamic. And now they send a very young and experienced quarterback into one of the loudest venues against the Washington team that's going to drop 28 points on everybody in the country. So that is a, to me, that is a fascinating game. I just historically am going to take a number one team over an unranked team. But Washington's about as good as you can be to be unranked in college football.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. By the way, is it going to rain? Because I know all it does in the Northwest is rain. Is it going to rain at that?
Jason McIntyre
Washington, let's slow down.
Colin Cowherd
Hey, by the way, we went to Seattle last summer. It's amazing. I love that city.
Jason McIntyre
Urban Meyer, big noon kickoff. He's at the USC Illinois game tomorrow and he is joining us now live. Okay, so let's just ask you. I anytime you go into a game with a young quarterback into a hostile environment, a coaching staff generally thinks, all right, let's get him some early, easy completions. Let's not put them in weird environments. But that kind of plays into Washington's hand because Washington's going to come into this thing with big swings. They've got an NFL elite receiver, an unbelievable quarterback, a star running back. So I look at Washington, they're going to their take is going to be, listen, we're not beating these guys without taking big swings. Ohio State may do the opposite. And let's bring it in, let's slow it down. And that could get the crowd riled up. I mean, are you worried for Ohio State in this spot?
Urban Meyer
I'm worried about the early part of the game. And I would always tell teams going into that. The mindset is that is a prize fight. You're going to take some brutal shots early in the game just because the crowd and you have to understand the hotspots. The hot spots are third downs. The hotspots are red zone and then punt and field go. That's when the stadium becomes electric. But the best thing to slow down the stadium and calm down the stadium is a sustained drive. So I always tell our players, and I said this early in the Texas game for Arch Manning as well, get two first downs. That's your job as a quarterback. That way you automatically flip the field and he can slow everything down a little bit, but they'd make a mistake that just come out guns blazing in this game, in my opinion, let the game slow down a little bit. How do you do that? Sustained drives. And I don't think defense, Washington's defense is that great. So I think they can do come out of the game a nice 10 play drive. Crowd goes away in the second quarter.
Jason McIntyre
I think people Buka is such a great player now he's in the NFL. Last year you had two elite receivers, two elite backs. I think your quarterback had more experience. Ohio State doesn't quite look like it quite has the offensive juice. Is that fair?
Urban Meyer
I think they're still coming along. Carnell Tate, I said, and that's the number two receiver for Iowa State. That's the biggest question mark because he's got all the skill set you need to be a high draft pick and to take some pressure off Jeremiah Smith. But Jeremiah S.M. smith had the perfect scenario last year. He had a mecca on the other side. He had two great running backs. Those are all gone. So it still remains to be seen because Texas, like I heard you say earlier, how good is Texas in the last three games to me were just warm up games. We're going to find out here in Seattle.
Jason McIntyre
All right, let's talk USC and Illinois. You know, you and I talked years ago about this. USC got small and then the nil came and I think joining the Big Ten, Lincoln Riley looked at his roster and said, okay, Michigan, Penn State, we have to go buy s And I gotta tell you, Urban, their defensive front for the first time since Pete Carroll, they got five or six guys that are big now a couple of them are freshmen. But do they look different to you at least just physically look different?
Urban Meyer
Within two seconds after turning on the film, I actually called their line coach, Zach Hansen. Zach Hansen, I believe his name is. Yeah, and he, he's terrific. And he said that, he said they had a staff meeting and a focus of recruiting went from obviously great skill that you still need that. But they realized against Penn State, Ohio State, the Wolverines, etceter going to get punched in the face, you better get big. This is the biggest and most NFL draft picks in the offensive line that they've had probably since the Pete Carroll era. Like you just said on the defensive side. So completely different looking team. And I want to add this, I was talking to Matt Leiner about this. A physical offense line changes your program. How practice is different, the weight room is different, the way you approach the game's different. If you're a finesse team, your program becomes finesse. And obviously that gets you only so far.
Jason McIntyre
For the record, you know, people look at Lincoln Riley and think he loves to pass. But if you go back to Oklahoma, they Ran the ball all the time. I think when I've watched every snap of every, almost every snap this season of usc, I think they're a run first team. What do you see?
Urban Meyer
There's no doubt. That's exactly. And you're right about Lincoln Riley. He, you know, he comes across as an air raid guy. He's not, I call him a spread coach, a spread option or a spread coach wants to run the pound the ball first and that opens everything up. So Lincoln Riley, I'm telling you, this is a, this is a playoff looking team to me. The other ones were not playoff looking teams. They were, they were fast teams that, that scored points. They were not a playoff team.
Jason McIntyre
So Oregon's going to Penn State. So Oregon has not. Dante Moore, the quarterback has played, you know, Stanford, Arizona, San Diego State. He never played in a stadium like this. This thing is nuts. You played in this stadium and Oregon's young. Are you concerned they get a little overwhelmed in this spot against the Nittany Lions?
Urban Meyer
Yeah. I've said Penn State overtook LSU to me as the number one most difficult place I've ever been in that whiteout at night. It's choreographed. It's a must watch. It's something that you need to see this. And he has never been in this. You're right. And I talked. Coach Lanning called me this week and he heard me talk about Penn State. And as I grew as a coach, the thing you need to do is practice. And I mentioned it to Secko is the stadium's not always loud. It's loud during third down. So what do you do? You practice that or you come up with some kind of scheme. We would do tempo. That means you go real fast on third down and not let the crowd get into it. The other thing is red zone. What do you do? You go put those speakers right behind you in the red zone of practice so you're ready for it. And then the other one, we lost a game there in 2000, I think 16, 15, I believe. And that was because we got a field goal blocked and that's another hotspot. So again, third downs, red zone, field goal and punt, those are when the stadium becomes unglued. You better practice it.
Jason McIntyre
Yeah, you know, it's. I was thinking about you this week. I thought Mike Gunny was a good coach, but he didn't pivot very well on Nil. And Dabo similarly, I think is a very good coach. And I, I've said this before. You know, Bobby Knight didn't want to do One and done. Krzyzewski initially didn't. Then he embraced it. Is that nothing ruins or punctures brilliance like rigidity and stubbornness. And I look at Dabo and I watched them against Syracuse last week and I. My only takeaway was they've got a few really high end players like defensively, but I don't know if they have the depth of athlete of Ohio State or Penn State. And they haven't gone into the transfer portal. And everybody thinks urban. If you go into the transfer portal, it's just to get five star guys. Sometimes it's to get another slot corner or a second tight end. I just didn't feel Clemson was talented like, like LSU talented or Ohio State. What do you think their problem is?
Urban Meyer
So I talked to Dabo before the season and he made a comment to me, this is a national championship calendar team. He felt there was depth. He felt he had a Heisman candidate, a quarterback. It's still early. I got a feeling they're going to find a way to run off a bunch of wins in a, you know, kind of average ACC and then kind of get things organized. But you, you mentioned Mike Gundy as well. I put those guys in the same category because to me Mike Gundy was untouchable. He is Oklahoma State. But Tulsa goes in there and beats him. All of a sudden that guy becomes touchable. So Dabo, I'm not ready to. That ship's not going to sink. First of all, Dabo Sweeney is not going anywhere. I think Clemson comes back. Maybe it's not one of his best teams, but it's certainly good enough to at least compete for an ACC championship.
Jason McIntyre
Finally, Urban Meyer and I'll see him tomorrow on big noon kickoff. I said I always thought the Big Ten was top heavy, but it wasn't good enough at quarterback. It wasn't quite as fast as I'd like it. It needed a little spice. The jambalaya need a little spice. I think Oregon, Washington, Jed Fish, usc, they really. It was a perfect mesh. It's forced the west coast teams to get bigger and buy size. And it's made the Big Ten fast, creative, fun, better quarterbacks. I mean, I can't believe how well it's worked. Are you surprised by. Listen, Oregon won the conference last year. I think Washington this year is going to be very dangerous. USC is back. Did you think it would be that it would work this well?
Urban Meyer
No. I thought the PAC 12 would kind of come into conference and get pushed around a little bit. That's not what happened. I think the Pac 12 teams, the four you mentioned, have elevated the Big Ten right now. I did something on Urban Alyss on the Big Ten network that it's the best. There's seven quarterbacks right now that I think are the best that I in my lifetime. The depth of quarterback position in the Big Ten is better than it's ever been. The style of play. Now, the bottom of the Big Ten is bad. There's some really bad teams at the bottom. But I'm telling you what, this is very sec. Looking back, when the sec, you know, it's much more depth. You got Indiana, I think the Illinois team just, they got. They got hammered a little bit. They're still a good football team. And this is with Wisconsin and Michigan State through a rebuild. Once those teams get back, if they do get back, I mean, the Big Ten conferences, I think it's the number one conference in college football.
Jason McIntyre
Urban Meyer, Fox Sports college football coach. I'll see you tomorrow.
Urban Meyer
Can't wait to see you, Colin.
Jason McIntyre
All right. Urban Meyer, a friend and just does terrific work for us. I cannot wait. Husky Stadium, Oregon on the road at Penn State. Urban said it's the hardest place now. It surpassed LSU and USC down the road. J. Mac with the news. No, no, no, turn on the news.
Colin Cowherd
This is the Herd line news. All right, big guy, let's get started with Lamar Jackson. Collin, he's been one of the few bright spots for a Ravens team that is one and two. Obviously, he was runner up to Josh Allen last year for league mvp. Entering this weekend's matchup against the Chiefs, Chris Jones spoke about Lamar Jackson.
Jason McIntyre
Any player in the game, he can change the dynamic of it. So, you know, with him, it's always tough to play against Lamar and the Baltimore Ravens. You know, stopping Lamar is one thing. Trying to contain him is another. And over the years, you look how prolific as a passer he's become. I think he's completing 70% of his passes, which I think he should have won MVP last year. Have so much respect for him. Yeah, yeah. Many, many people did.
Colin Cowherd
Maybe it's just me, but did you not think Lamar seemed uncertain against Detroit in the pocket? He seemed to do a lot of pump fakes and next thing you know, he's on his back because Aiden Hutchinson and company were breathing down on. I don't know what was going on, but if I were looking at props, I would be targeting Lamar Jackson over rushing yards. This feels to me right high profile game against Mahomes and the Chiefs. Lamar's like, I Ain't letting us lose, guys. I'm going down swinging and I'm doing everything I can. And that probably means with his legs. I don't like the Chiefs linebackers either.
Jason McIntyre
Finally.
Colin Cowherd
Let's move on. Now. This is spicy. I've got to choose my words carefully. CJ Stroud and the Texans offense has struggled through the first three games, by the way, dating back to last season. They're just five and nine in their last 14, averaging only 19 points per game. So Diana Rossini was talking about C.J. stroud and if you listen closely, col, we have a percolating situation in Houston. They are still trying to figure themselves out on offense.
Jason McIntyre
They have a new play caller. They have a different looking offensive line. I still think they're, they're working some kinks out. So he's still good. I'm not, I'm not on this. I'm not in the camp of he's.
Colin Cowherd
Ruining his opportunity here to get some mega extension.
Jason McIntyre
I still think C.J. stroud can play. I just think there's still a lot of work to be done and there's some, there's some things going on behind the scenes that, that I think we're to find out about soon. Oh, that is spicy.
Colin Cowherd
Okay, again, I got to choose my words carefully because I don't want to start a brush fire. We don't have a lot of evidence here. Okay. That being said, there was a weird article in the New York Times this week about is CJ Stroud playing his way out of an extension? And we would laugh at that. Right? Like, come on, C.J. stroud, he's great. So he shares an agent with Micah Parsons. Colin and C.J. stroud and Micah Parsons really were budd buddy a couple summers ago hanging out a lot after Stroud's great rookie year. And Micah Parsons had an interesting end to this offseason.
Jason McIntyre
Right.
Colin Cowherd
He kind of got an argument with Jerry Jones and forced his way out of town and was traded. Do you think C.J. stroud is long for the Texans?
Jason McIntyre
That's really interesting.
Colin Cowherd
I, I, I'm not trying to start something. We don't know what's going on. But Rossini hinting stuff behind the scenes, they, they are on their new offensive coordinator. Remember they dumped the guy last year. Their offensive line is what's going on here? Stroud playing poorly. You think CJ Stroud is locked in in Houston?
Jason McIntyre
I, not after your two minutes segment there, no.
Colin Cowherd
So he, you know he's from California, right?
Jason McIntyre
Oh, Rams. Maybe seeking another quarterback.
Colin Cowherd
I don't know. I mean, do you think he'd love to play with McVay?
Jason McIntyre
Very interesting.
Colin Cowherd
I don't know. I don't. I'm not trying to start something, but McVeigh.
Jason McIntyre
McVeigh does like pocket quarterbacks. Like golf. He likes Stafford. C.J. stroud. He doesn't need. He likes you to run his play.
Colin Cowherd
Rams have a couple more extra draft picks, don't they?
Jason McIntyre
Oh, very. Now you're on to something. Two ones for C.J. stroud.
Colin Cowherd
It's gonna cost more than that, but I don't know.
Jason McIntyre
Not when he's coming off back to back bad seasons.
Colin Cowherd
Texans are not moving off him that easily. But just a fun story. Thought I'd out there.
Jason McIntyre
J J Mack with a news well.
Colin Cowherd
That'S the news and thanks for stopping.
Jason McIntyre
By the Herd lie news. I mean, does C.J. stroud get more than two first round picks? I. I don't think. Not. Not off back to back bad years? I don't think so. He's off great years. It's worth three and a five. But if you're off bad to back back to back bad seasons, you're not winning games, you're not getting three first round picks. Two first rounders in the same draft.
Colin Cowherd
Well, I remember Snead was able to pull off the golf swap for Stafford. Obviously there would be no swap here. But the fact that Micah Parsons got traded because nobody thought we were good, they were going to trade him and he shares an agent with Stroud. Mildly interesting. And now Houston fans are probably very upset with us.
Jason McIntyre
But don't be mad. Be mad at you. I didn't say anything. All right. J. Mac around the corner's got his pick, says the Herd. Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd, weekdays at noon Eastern, 9am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1 and the iHeartRadio app. Hey, it's Steve Covino. And I'm Rich Davis. The headline for Vikings Steelers will be can we see it on the screen guys? Influencers in the wild Vikes go viral in Dublin. I like Carson Wentz. Hey, gets Jordan Addison, Colin big at get back there at wide receiver. We know the left tackle Derrick Owl's back. It seems like the offensive line should do well. If you look at these Pittsburgh defensive metrics, Colin, for an expensive defense, they have been rotten. They cannot stop anybody. Remember Justin Fields move the ball up and down the field against these guys. Now I know Pittsburgh will have something of a home field advantage in Dublin. Apparently it's going to be like 75, 25. Aaron Rodgers fans and the Steelers are a better brand, I guess than the Vikings, but I'm confident in Minnesota's defense. Brian Flores. They are eighth in blitz rate, they are second in pressure rate. And Aaron Rodgers is the worst quarterback in the NFL so far this season against pressure. 6 for 22 passing. Give me the Vikings to win by 7 to 10.
Jason McIntyre
Tomorrow's Headlines Today, Panthers, Patriots. What say you?
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, you know, we have a lot of agreement this week. The headline for Panthers Patriots will be Mother may I? Pat's permitted to own Panthers. This opened at minus two. It's up to minus five and a half. Listen, right now everybody loves the Patriots. And why would you not? I mean, I know they have six turnovers tied for second in the league, but a lot of that was just unlucky. Fumbles bad Drake made decisions. What's the remedy? You face a Panthers defense that stinks. Worst pressure rate in the league. They have one sack through three games. Their defense just isn't good. If you look at their wide receiver room, they just rule. Legget out. Ted McMillan, your guy from Arizona, he's struggling with an injury. He's questionable. I don't think Bryce Young has a lot of options. Give me the Patriots at home handily.
Jason McIntyre
Tomorrow's headlines. Today, Philadelphia came from behind to beat the Rams at Tampa. The kids are coming from behind and winning and Tampa, I don't think you can sustain it. Yeah, but I have a feeling I know where you're leaning on this.
Colin Cowherd
So. You know last week, remember that Lions Ravens game? I was like, hey, Ravens killed them last time. They murdered them. They're going to do it again. They didn't. Well, everybody like in Tampa, beware the headline for Eagles Bucks will be porched. Pirates Bucks get boxed up at home. Love a good revenge spot for my guy. Jalen Hurts and company. Hertz is 1 and 4 against Tampa with Todd Bowles on the sideline. He has struggled a bit, but I think this is the week that he gets right. Remember last year in this spot did not have A.J. brown or DeVonta Smith like, come on, let's give the guy a break. Saquon Barkley is yet to get untracked, but this Tampa defense is not great. They've been winning thanks to mistakes by the opponents and Baker Mayfield heroics. I think that ends I'm going Eagles 30 to 17 in a roll.
Jason McIntyre
Tomorrow's headlines today I avoid Falcon bets at all com costs. You don't Commanders now with a backup quarterback in the atl.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, I think it was you that said last season friends don't let friends bet on the Falcons. Something like that. You had something funny. The headline for Falcons commanders will be Let Bichons be Bichons. Falcons get go off the losses. I like Atlanta, Colin. I know it's crazy, but no Jaden Daniels, no scary Terry McLaurin. I don't see an offense where Marcus Mariota does it again and explodes on the Falcons. And let's be real. This is an Atlanta team that just played as bad as possible last week. Michael Penix threw an inexplicable pick six. Unlike the second play of the second half. Kicker missed two field goals. Remember, in the dome look good against Tampa in the dome look good at Minnesota and won.
Jason McIntyre
True.
Colin Cowherd
They're back in a dome that deep. Those edge rushers are fast. I like Atlanta to get right, but be careful.
Jason McIntyre
This next one feels lopsided. It was too obvious, so I stayed away. Tomorrow's headlines. Today, Jackson Dart gets his first start. Unfortunately, it's against Harbaugh on the Chargers.
Colin Cowherd
Jesse Minter, the great defensive mind of the Chargers who's going to get head coaching looks. We know. All right. The headline for Chargers Giants will be y' all better Scatter Boo Daddle. Chargers run in all directions. Listen, you can work Scatter Boo into a headline. You got to. He's the man for the Giants. Yeah, I just. There is some concern. I'm with you. Like, be careful. Chargers on the road. Everybody now has them in the super bowl bubble and you go down with. No, no, the. The guard, Makai Becton, he's out. We know the Giants front is very strong.
Jason McIntyre
Yeah, that's what I see. Low scoring and ugly and.
Colin Cowherd
And you don't know what. Jackson Dart, he's kind of an unknown, right? Is he going to come in and run around for 50 yards? Is he going to make plays to Malik Neighbors that Russell Wilson could not do? So I do have some concerns. I'm just betting on coaching here. I think Harbaugh is considerably better than Dable and I think Jesse Minters an excellent defensive guy who's going to cook up some schemes to confound the rookie. I'll go with the Chargers.
Jason McIntyre
Another favorite. Lopsided game, potentially. Tomorrow's headlines Today, Green Bay a touchdown favorite and Big D. What do you got?
Colin Cowherd
First bet of the week. I've been waiting for this circled on the calendar. Not just mine, but Micah's. The headline for Packers Cowboys will be A B C D fml. Cowboys can't break spell. Now our young audience knows fml. I'm not sure you do. I honestly thought the higher ups would nix this, but I think Dallas is screwed here without CD Lamb. Colin, by the way, did you see how many points they scored against the Bears in the second half without CD Lamb?
Jason McIntyre
Not good. Zero.
Colin Cowherd
I mean, I know they moved the football, but that was largely garbage time because of the situation of the game. And you look at that interior offensive line of Dallas, lot of backups, a lot of guys off the street. Colin, Micah, Parsons. We know that the defense of the packers, they don't just run off the edge, they do stunts. So Micah's going to be kind of up the middle. Dak not running as much as he used to. This is a scary one. I don't think it's going to be like 48, 20, but I do think the packers win this handily. One of those, like, 35 to 10. Oh, my gosh, Jerry, you guys are in trouble.
Jason McIntyre
Finally, great college football slate. Best of the year final tally here. Tomorrow's headlines today, going to Georgia.
Colin Cowherd
You know, I wanted to go Washington, Ohio State. There's, you know, obviously some really great games. Oregon, Penn State. But I'm going Alabama, Georgia, because the headline's too beautiful. The headline for tied Bulldogs in the SEC would be the deboor went down to Georgia and played them like a fiddle. I'm going with my main man, Ty Simpson, who I believe emerges from this game as a legit Heisman contender.
Jason McIntyre
Whoa.
Colin Cowherd
I know they lost to FSU. It's not like Simpson was terrible, by the way, nine touchdowns, zero picks, 71% completions. Remember what Ryan Williams did to these guys last year? And Jalen Milro. Milro came out of this game like, oh, my gosh, is he a top 20 pick? I think Simpson looks good. I think they own Kirby Smart and DeBoer gets the job done. This is going to be a phenomenal game. The college slate Saturday. Just. Just keep your phone charged because I know, I know you're going to want to fire off text to me. I like Alabama to win outright in Georgia.
Jason McIntyre
You know, my takeaway on all this is I stayed away from the two most obvious blowouts, which is the Chargers against the Giants and the packers against the Cowboys. Because when, like 88% of the bets are on the favorites, I. So I went with Denver instead. Everybody's doubting Bo Nix, and I just. I think their roster in Denver's exceptional altitude at home. I think without Joe Burrow, I think there's a kind of lack of personality, a lack of belief in Cincinnati, but it does feel like there is a separation of the really good teams and the really bad ones. And then last week happens in Cleveland beats Green Bay and you're like oh wait, maybe there isn't. So I don't know. I, it's, it's funny. I do not. I, no game screams upset to me. Tampa, of course at home is capable of beating anybody in the league, but I, and I think the jets is a two and a half point underdog. Certainly if Justin Fields plays could win. I don't see a huge upset this weekend.
Colin Cowherd
Do you see this Spencer Rattler & Co. Going to Buffalo Bill's just kind of sleepy. Whatever.
Jason McIntyre
And maybe they lay an egg losing.
Colin Cowherd
I think it's 15 and a half is the spread there. I wouldn't bet that with your money. If you said jay, here's a thousand, I'm not doing it. I, I just double digit spreads are dangerous, you know.
Jason McIntyre
Well, it's just also, I mean Seattle dominates most of the early game last night and finds themselves tied late. I mean that's, that's, it's not college football like you. There's dudes everywhere. Arizona's got six or seven great players.
Colin Cowherd
I think it was 20 to six with six minutes left.
Jason McIntyre

Theme: What’s Wrong with the Chiefs? Urban Meyer joins on CFB, Trouble Brewing with CJ Stroud and the Texans
This episode dives deep into pressing NFL and college football storylines, led by Colin Cowherd and Jason McIntyre. The discussion centers on the Kansas City Chiefs’ ongoing struggles, power dynamics within NFL organizations, and crucial college football matchups. A featured segment brings on Urban Meyer, who provides high-level insights on Ohio State, USC, conference realignment, coaching adaption, and the state of the Big Ten. The show wraps with speculation on CJ Stroud’s future in Houston and Jason’s picks for the weekend’s NFL and college games.
“The best thing to calm down the stadium is a sustained drive… get two first downs. That way you automatically flip the field and can slow everything down a little bit.”
“Our problem is here. We don’t have good enough players.” — Colin Cowherd
“This is the biggest and most NFL draft picks in the offensive line that they’ve had probably since the Pete Carroll era.”
“Nothing punctures brilliance like rigidity and stubbornness.” — Jason McIntyre
“He shares an agent with Micah Parsons… do you think C.J. Stroud is long for the Texans?” — Colin Cowherd
The episode features Colin’s trademark blend of analytical skepticism and open speculation, with Jason playing the pragmatic, numbers-conscious foil. The conversation is opinionated but thoughtful, drawing on both strategic football knowledge and a keen sense for behind-the-scenes drama. Urban Meyer provides a seasoned coach’s perspective, especially strong on game environment preparation and college program evolution. The tone is lively, sharp, and sometimes conspiratorial—particularly around CJ Stroud and NFL trade rumors.
Summary prepared for listeners of The Herd who want key insights, notable quotes, and the storylines that matter—no ads, no fluff.
