Again, full disclosure, we are recording this before. We're recording this right after Mexico beats South Africa as called by me to the exact score 2 nil before South Korea or Korea Republic Chechia and before any of the Friday games. So that's where we're at in the World cup calendar when we're doing this. Only one game has been played so we'll do World cup stuff in a bit. But first amante, let's get to game five.

It's totally possible by next time we go live the finals champion will be crowned. Is a loss like the spurs just suffered too hard to come back from? Do you see them winning this game 5? Where do we go from Here.

So here's where I stand on the series. I think the spurs lost the championship Wednesday night. They Lebron James is not walking through that door. They are not coming back from down 3 or down 3 1. They are to me about as dead as a team that was down. It was down 3 0. And part of that is because I do not think they are better than the Knicks. I know they aren't more clutch or better at executing down the stretch than the Knicks. And there is no lead the spurs can get out to where the Knicks in Game 5, where the Knicks will be nervous or where the spurs will be comfortable. It is remarkable to Monze that the spurs have had a double digit lead in every game this series

Well and it's start the games off hot. But then also I'm going to do this in on the fly the score right around the two minute mark of these games. Game one, San Antonio at the, with two minutes left in the game had a one point lead. They lost game two of this series at the two minute mark. San Antonio had. I'm doing this again on the fly had a. They were down by one at the two minute mark. Oh, I'm sorry. So let's do it this way. San Antonio at the one minute mark of game two had a two point. So at the game one, at the two minute mark had a one point lead and they lost game two at the one minute mark they had a two point lead and they lost. Game three obviously was the game they won, but that was also a game that in the waning moments all of a sudden appeared to be in the balance. And at the two minute mark of game three. Oh, not three, say it again.

No, at the two minute mark of game 3, San Antonio was up 4, they won it. And yesterday at the two minute mark San Antonio was up 1 and they lost the game. So they have been not only up double digits every game this series but up within the final two minutes in every game this series and they're down three points. So that speaks to the fact or they're down three points, they're down three games to one, speaks to the fact that they're good enough to win. And I, and you know Stefan Castle keeps saying we're going to win every game, we expect to win three in a row. Then after yesterday's game was like we have dictated the winners and the losers of this game they credit at some point. Yeah, exactly. They refuse to just give the Knicks credit. But the other piece of this is right now, this moment. Who on the spurs is playing great? I don't know that anybody is. I think Castle's the closest one to it.

I can't think of any like really bad Vassell moments throughout. I feel like he's been pretty consistently decent.

Playing great. Like and I said Castle and Castle in yesterday's game or Wednesday's game was 2 for 7 from the field. Wimy's had one great game. You Vsel is shooting the lights out, that part's true. But he's giving you 13 and 7. It feels like Dylan Harper is, you know, you could use more of him, but he can't hit an outside shot. None of the spurs are playing great. Meanwhile, OG is playing the best basketball of his life. And Brunson, while not the efficiency he would like to Monze is 30 points, five rebounds, five assists. And his efficiency has only gotten better as this series has gone. On the, you know, game one he was 39%. Game two he was bad, he's 28%. Game three, 44%, game five or game four, 48%. But here is the real reason that I believe, I believe the Knicks are going to win game five and it is not because I think the spurs are just going to be a shell of themselves. Because everyone is looking at it from the perspective of what that type of loss could or could not do to the Spurs. That's not the perspective I have. The perspective I have is what that type of win is going to do for the Knicks. Those guys on the Knicks are going to walk into game five bonded in a way that I don't want to use a war analogy like the. The just melded as a unit the likes of which you. It's usually impossible to be without having won a championship together. Like Damon say, what will Josh Hart do to try to help out OG Anunoby in game anything or run through literally anything? Yeah, anything. Carl Anthony Towns, is there anything that can happen in Game 5 from an officiating perspective that he is going to think he can't overcome? No. Is there any deficit or matchup that Jaylen Brunson can be staring at and not think watch what I'm about to fucking do here? No. Jose Alvarado is like guys, four months ago I was playing in the Smoothie king Center for 800 people. Yeah, I just played nine fourth quarter finals minutes and was unbelievable. It OG Anunoby who, it should be noted OG Anunoby hit a game winning three in the playoffs as a kid I can you guys look up the game? That was because I just remember he had a great quote. I think it was the year the Raptors won the championship. Oh no. The year the Raptors won the championship. It wasn't that year. He was out with an injury that playoff run. But Anna Nobe had a great line when he was asked after he hit a game winning corner three and about did he think it was going in and he just said he's like well I didn't expect to miss it. And I'm. I'm watching it now throws it over the top of the court and it has to just be a snap instant shot and he doesn't even celebrate. He's just cold as ice. So back to the point. What level of confidence is OG Anunoby going to be playing with the only guy on the Knicks. There's two guys on the Knicks who Are probably like, ah, wish that things were going a little better. Deuce who had a really rough game and Mitchell Robinson, who. But maybe Mitch is like, you know what?

And here's another prediction. I think that stadium in San Antonio is going to be MSG South. I already have been looking at the tickets because I, I can again, if you guys listen to yesterday's episode and I was talking about my buddy who's the high stakes gambler. He, he and some of his friends have been for all of the Knicks road games, been chartering their own plane and they split it and then they go to the games. The private plane, I, Nick Wright, man of the people, also don't have the money for it. Have never flown private anywhere in my life. With that said, I'm not above asking somebody who's already chartered the plane, are there, is there an extra seat? Like it's just gonna go empty. Like the, I mean, if you're, you know, if you're on the way there, if we're going the same place.

I think there's a chance to monze that your mom and I might be able to catch a ride to San Antonio. There's a chance. I don't think it's a great chance, but there's a chance. And if that's the case, I obviously would do it and I would buy tickets. The spurs game five prices, all of a sudden right now are damn near Knicks game four prices. Like, I think Knicks fans are coming down for that moment. And I just think the Knicks are going to be a team on fire.

And they can obviously win in San Antonio. And here's the one other thing I will say, and maybe it won't happen. But you know what we haven't seen yet this series? The Knicks go crazy from three. They listen, they have been consistent and good from three. But game one nicks 11 of 36 from three. 31% just fine. Game two, 15 of 38 from three, 39%. That's, that's good. You know that, that maybe even really good. Game three, the Knicks were 13 of 37 from three. That's again just average. And last night The Knicks were 15 of 32 from 3. Now that's a great percentage, but it's not a crazy number. The we haven't had the 18 three pointer game yet for the Knicks. I wonder if that's coming in game five. I know you have some follow ups here, so go ahead.

Are you at all worried about a Knicks hangover? Like, you know, you're saying they're going to come in feeling, feeling themselves, feeling like they can do anything. But do you think that that might work against them or be able to?

I don't think that way, bro. I don't think Brunson has been so. Yeah styled stoic. OG is. I mean, oh geez quote of like everybody's excited was so funny but actually is Josh Hart is angry. Like Josh Hart's not celebrating the. So no, I'm not worried about that. And then the question is how will Wimby respond? And my answer to that is I think he will have bouts of greatness and maybe, maybe he'll have one more. It would have to be in game five. Awesome, awesome game. And they can force game six. Wimby does not have three straight great games in him. He doesn't have the juice.

Here's the thing, I think people can trick themselves in this regard. It's like, all right, can the spurs win Saturday? Well, yes, obviously. Sure they can. In fact, they are the favorites to win Saturday. Like Vegas thinks they're going to win Saturday. Okay, well then can they win at msg? Well, yeah, of course they can. They just won game three and they were up 29 in game. Game four. And then well, they would be favorites in game seven. It looking at them individually, it does not seem that hard. And I know some people say you can't look at it this way, but I am looking at it this way. I do not care about it individually at all. Here's what I care about. Do I think the New York Knicks, who have lost one game in seven weeks and just came back from down 29 points for the greatest comeback in the history of the Finals are about to have a three game losing streak? Absolutely not. So I think the Knicks will win game five. I am wholly and entirely confident the Knicks are going to win the Series. I am less confident with my World cup predictions. welcome back to the FIFA forecast, folks. Last week in your primary, you laid out all the basics for the tournament, but now I want to know what you have your eyes set on in the World Cup. Maybe top five storylines.

Yeah. So I listen the number one storyline obviously is can Argentina defend its title and if they were to, how it would mean that Messi it's, it's, it is debatable whether or not Messi is the greatest player ever. Pele has something to say about that. Some believe it's debatable whether or not Messi is even the greatest player of his own generation. Cristiano Ronaldo would have something to say about that if Argentina were to win this World cup because Messi would have to be a big piece of is simply not debatable in the least. It is not a argument. It is not a question. It is not a, as I love to say, an allowed opinion to say that the that Messi, if Messi goes back to back World Cups to finish it off and has all these World cup records. So that's the number one storyline. And again, number two storyline isn't really number two storyline, but they kind of go hand in hand is can Cristiano Ronaldo, who is no longer even close, the best player on Portugal somehow in his sixth World cup ever. I mean, first of all score the first ever goal he has outside of the group stage and second of all get Portugal to its first ever World cup final, let alone win it. That would be, you know, those are kind of the, the, the goat storylines. Spain and France are the two best teams. Spain might have the best player in the world and Lamina Mall, but he's dealing with an injury. France has the best overall roster. So you know, those are, that's hovering there for we'll get to the Team USA stuff in a moment. And then for me, you know, I am partial to Brazil. Brazil has been a massive disappointment for the last 24 years at the World cup and they are dealing with injury. They are dealing with not, not even being close to the favorite for one of the only times of my entire life. But I think they can do it. So those are, you know, some of the main storylines. But I would like to get to Team USA. So let's get into that.

U.S. men's National Team has their first game of the tournament against Paraguay tonight. You said that a run to the quarterfinals would be a massive success for our squad. What do you have to see out of them tonight to believe that they can make it that far?

Nick Wright
A clear cut victory. So here is the way. If the US doesn't make it out of the group stage, especially now in the expanded World cup where eight third place teams make it out, then it is an utter and complete catastrophe. Okay, I'm not even going to entertain that possibility. Not because it's not possible, but because that just takes discussion totally different direction. The goal is not to make it out of the group stage. The goal is to win the group, Therefore draw a third place finisher in the in the round of 32, have the best path possible to the round of 16 and for just the second time in US history make it out of the round of 16 and into the quarterfinals. If they are going to do that Damanz the two the worst two teams they're going to play the whole tournament are the first two games they play Paraguay and Australia. It's not because those are awful teams, but it's because you would expect that everyone to make it to the knockout round to be better than those two teams or at least certainly any team to make to the round of 16 be better than those two teams. So they need to win their first game. The team USA has been to 10 World Cup. Six times they've advanced past the prior to this year. Six times they've advanced past THE GROUP STAGE. All six times they did. They either won or drew their first game. Four times they didn't advance past the group stage. They lost their first game. Paraguay is going to try to kind of muck it up and play a defensive game. So one nothing could be the score here. The US has not been playing one nothing type of games. They have their last 14 games. US men's national team, they only have one what they call clean sheet but shut out. But the US has to win Friday night flatly if they're going to it. If you're going to believe that this team can win multiple knockout round games, they need to go into their first game of a home World cup and beat Paraguay. You beat Paraguay, you beat Australia and then you set yourself up where you just need a draw against Turkey A to basically lock up the group most likely and be fine. The the goal for this group Stage For Team USA realistic goal should be 7 points, 2 wins and 1 draw. An acceptable result would be 5 or 6 points meaning 5 points would be 1 win. And 2 draws. 6 points would be 2 wins and 1 loss. A disappointing result would be 4 points. A win, a draw and a loss. And a wholly and entirely unacceptable result would be three points which would be one win and two losses or three draws. I'm going to, I'm going to be optimistic. I really like the coach. I like how they have played at in their last two warm ups against Senegal and Germany and I'm going to say Team USA is going to get seven points. I think they are going to beat Paraguay, they are going to beat Australia and they're going to draw against Turkey and win the group and get seven points and then we'll see who we draw. All right, let's go to the first follow up here.

I don't because. And here's why I just wouldn't. I think it is. I don't want to make that bet on a team that is as interesting but not top world class. Until I see who they would be playing in root there like it just feels like a very blind bet not knowing who they would have to play in the round of 32 in the round of 16. And you honestly depending on who they're playing, if they're playing one of the top teams in the world might be able to get better odds by simply waiting until the end of the group stage and then parlaying, you know them to win the round of 32 and then, then them to win the round. The round of 16. Go. The go to this elimination. This stage of elimination. Odds Daman.

Yeah. So the stage of elimination odds for us is group stage plus 350 round of 32 is plus 185 sweet 16 plus 240 quarterfinals plus 475 semifinals plus 1200 runner up plus 3000 winner plus 6000.

I think the most likely result of this tournament for Team USA is an all too familiar place of losing in the round of 16, getting out of the group, winning one knockout round game in the expanded World cup again prior to this year to Monza, when you get out of the group you're in the round of 16. But this year they expanded it. I think that's the most likely result. Again I, I am not, I'm. I'm not betting that ahead of time. I but I, yeah, but that's the most likely result. I also am, I think the. Maybe once the tournament gets rolling if I'm really dialed again. I did predict the Mexico score. Exactly. The, the the soccer. Same game parlays, all same game parlays are tough. Soccer ones are particularly tough because there's just so few events. Like there's just, you know, it's like shots on goal, total shots, corner kicks, those things. So I don't for. Here's what I. If the US Scores early, then. Or either team scores early, then the other team can all of a sudden you know, be like, all right, we're going to have to take more chances. We're going to. Sometimes an early goal leads to a higher scoring game and sometimes, oddly, an early goal leads to a lower scoring game because the team that scores then just like locks it up. They play back and they're, you know, very conservative. But sometimes an early goal makes a team. If they're the team that didn't score it, if they were going to play conservative, they then open it up. But I think one nothing US is the where I land on it. They might have the best player in the world and maybe he just goes on a magical run. So at 25 to 1, I don't mind it. The producers are trying to make me an offer of Brazil and France to be the finalists at 22:50. Here's the problem with any of these finalist bets. And again I just being real with the audience, we don't know what the bracket's going to be. So what the okay, you bet Brazil and France to be finalists and then because of where they finish in their group, they're on the same side of the bracket. You lose. Guess what? They're going to play each other before the final. So I am. Once the bracket is set, once the group stage is over, then I'm fine with all of that. But I'm not making it would be like asking someone to bet to pick four final four teams before we see what regions the teams are in. Yeah. And it's like, okay, I've got these two teams both in the final four. Oh shit. They're both in the east region. Well, I guess I lose. So the I'm just not going to do it.
