Welcome in what's right think right episode 469 this episode of what's Right Think Right is brought to you as always, by our friends at Boost Mobile. Good it is again throughout the World Cup. Just a reminder. And this is also why you guys should subscribe to the channel on YouTube, iTunes, and Spotify. We will no longer be a morning show during the World cup because the television show has become a morning show during the World Cup. So we will be coming to you throughout the week around this time, two or three times a week. Also, another scheduling announcement a week from Saturday. So the. I don't. What date will that be? Saturday the 27th. If you're in Florida, we will be doing some type of show in the late afternoon live from the Hard Rock down in South Florida. Hard Rock is, of course, our great gambling sponsor. I will be down there doing a show. I believe Colin Cowherd will be there as well. So if you're around once I have the full details on that, I'll share them. But I believe it'll be Saturday afternoon, early evening at the Hard Rock Inn, South Florida. Damanze, good to see you. How are you?
Damanze
Good to see you, Pops. Great. Amazing. Sad.

A M. Parade. The. Oh, yeah. I am going to take advantage of the fact that I don't think your mom listens to this show as much as she used to and start today's show with an anecdote, which is last night. I don't know why it took me this long to, like, realize this, but last night I'm in the kitchen, I'm like, oh, my. Oh. Danielle had been asking me about or Deanna about Father's Day stuff because I had told them Lego is releasing the goudies. Oh, my God. What is. This is so embarrassing. What is Gowdy's Barcelona church called? Oh, Sagrada Familia. Lego is releasing their biggest Lego ever, and it's La Sagrada Familia. And it's supposed to be, like, as complicated as the big Star wars one. And I. I saw this. People sent this to me that was coming out, and I had sent it to your mom and sister saying, this is what I want for Father's Day, but it doesn't come out till November. So they said to me, like, so if we can't get you that, what should we get you? And I just, like, had, like, a moment of, like, clarity. I'm like, oh, my God. I was like, Sunday is Damanze's first Father's Day. What are we gonna do? And your mom just deadpan says, he's not my dad. I was like, I didn't even know what to say. I was knocked off balance.

She was like, his birthday's coming up. We'll see him soon. And we'll see him soon. I'm like. But I. I didn't even know what to do because I assumed she had come to Father. I mean, that's exactly right. It's really unbelievable. But happy early Father's Day to you, buddy. Thank you, Father. And so, yeah, I mean, it's so. So that is coming this weekend. Next week, it'll be in Miami. We will keep sending what's right mailbag gmail.com for mailbag episodes that'll be coming, you know, most Fridays throughout the month. Not every Friday, but most Fridays. All right, let's get straight to voicemail. Brought to you by Boost Mobile. Cam Jordan resigns with the Saints. Happy for Cam and happy for the Saints. He's a future hall of Famer that should finish his career with the Saints. Little bummed for me because I did think he was a potential August Chiefs addition to upgrade the pass rush, but evidently not. Brennan Sorsby applies for the NFL supplemental draft. We didn't talk about that really on this show at all. That's the right result here. His career shouldn't be over for gambling repeatedly, but his college football career obviously should be. And Darren Peterson only visiting with the Wizards ahead of the NBA draft. A little curious, but a lot of how his amateur his college career has been. Somewhat curious also. Evidently not. Evidently. I knew it. But my buddy Danny Parkins played Beth Page Black today, which for him is one of the coolest things that's ever happened to him. I can't imagine he shot under a. Danny's a good golfer. I'm gonna say he shot a 92. I'm gonna give him huge benefit of the doubt there. All right. Before we get to a absolutely captivating and very, very financially ruinous for me. Week one of the World Cup. There was a parade today where I live. Let's get. Let's go there first.
Damanze
So huge parade today in New York for the Knicks winning the finals. As I was watching that feed, I was just kind of thinking to myself, how are this many people off of work right now on a Thursday?
Felger
They took off from work, but. Exactly.
Damanze
Cat Mike Brown had some good moments throughout the parade. Jalen Brunson had a message for the doubters. Knicks owner James Dolan came out and said that it would be suicidal for them trying to go into that second apron. Do you have any last words for this version of the Knicks?
Felger
Okay, yeah. So first, let me deal with what Dolan said. And then I, you know, some kind of final thoughts on, on the Knicks before we move into the off season. I really disagree with James Dolan. So I want people to understand because I think the, the second apron is something of a black box for fans and even some in media about what it actually means. So what is definitively so? There is the salary cap, which almost every team in the league is over. There's then the luxury tax line, which a lot of teams are over. There's then the first apron. And again, if you're listening instead of watching, I'm raising my hand with each iteration here. And then there is the second apron, which is the highest of the thresholds. And being over the second apron comes with real restrictions. And being over the second apron repeatedly can be totally untenable. But dipping over the second apron for a year while you are contending for a championship is not that damaging at all. And so I, I hope Leon Rose and Worldwide west are able to convince James Dolan that he's wrong about this. Because if the Knicks want to keep Shamet and Mitchell Robinson, they are going to have to briefly, temporarily go into the second apron. So what does that mean if you are in the second apron? It would mean you don't have your tax level, your tax mid level exception to use on a free agent. That's 6 million bucks. That's fine because you'd be running this team back. You wouldn't be able to send out cash in a trade. That's fine because you wouldn't be trying to make a bunch of trades. You wouldn't be able to aggregate salaries in a trade, which means like you want a $40 million player, so you send out to $20 million players. Again, that's fine because you wouldn't be trying to drastically remake your roster over the course of the year and your, your draft pick seven years from now gets frozen. I'm sorry, let me. You're not allowed to trade it. Okay? Those are the restrictions for being in the second apron one time while you're in there. None of that really matters for the Knicks if the goal is to just run this sucker back. Now again, if you're in it repeatedly, then all of a sudden they can lock your draft pick years down the road at 30. That would not be good. You would not. If you are in it repeatedly and you're never able to, to sign a mid level free agent or you're never able to aggregate salaries in a trade, that would not be good. But the Boston Celtics for a year were a second apron team. I believe the year they won the title. Cleveland this year was a second apron team, Phoenix foolishly was a second apron team and Minnesota one year was a second apron team that nothing cataclysmic happened to those teams. So I do think that the Knicks should while they'll almost assuredly lose Jordan Clarkson try to bring everyone else back because I do think that this team is good enough and young enough to they're still in the absolute heart of their contention window. They just won the title and I if I were going to let one of Mitchell Robinson or Landry shame it go it would probably be Shamet. I think Mitch is more important because of his defensive and rebounding presence along with the fact that Towns and you saw it at the end of the finals as well does have you know a problem at times getting in getting dumb fouls and getting in foul trouble and you would Hope that Deuce McBride can ascend somewhat into that. You know the role Landry Sham had had in the playoffs which do do had a lot of the regular season. But I disagree with James Dolan. He's treating the second apron like a hard cap and it's not. Now as far as any last words about the Knicks I Simmons did a whole thing about how he now has Brunson in his top 50 of all time and he did it based off the fact that he said what he values more than anything is what Jalen Brunson just went out and did. Can you be the guy on a championship team? And while I maybe we will at some point over the summer, probably not. You know update my 50 greatest players the last 50 years that what Simmons is talking about I highly value as well how you weigh that against zero frontline regular season accomplishments, no top three MVP finishes, no first team all NBA's is you know is eye of the beholder stuff. But there was demand I thought a really interesting kind of window into how different people look at basketball. Tweet from a more vocal member of Houston Rockets Twitter and I wish I could give the guy credit but I don't I don't remember. I see his tweets all the time but I don't remember his Twitter handle. But I the he's a very vocal member of Rockets Twitter and is a big James Harden fan. And paraphrasing what he said was James Harden is unquestionably better at basketball than Jalen Brunson. But if you were to ask me who I who I would rather have to win a huge Playoff series, I would pick Jalen Brunson. And the fact that that mindset not only exists, but I think is not that out of the mainstream is a very unique, it's, it's a very unique thing when you really break it down. This is a die hard James Harden fan and he's saying James Harden is clearly better than, better than Jalen Brunson at basketball. But when it comes to winning important basketball games, I'd rather have the other guy. Which does beg the question. No. Well, I, it does make sense in as much as I know what the guy is. What he and folks that agree with him are saying is I judge basketball almost as an artistic endeavor, meaning

how
Felger
much your skill correlates with what actually wins is secondary to how much, how much I appreciate your skill. So it, it is, it's not that dissimilar to me too. And everybody dunked on this guy, but while everybody was, you know, dunking on this guy, the ringer. And again, I just gave Simmons credit. And if I next time, I already gave him a hard time about this on his last bottle. Do it again. The ringer just came out with their latest NBA top 100. And despite my pleas that can we please have LeBron James as the king of the old guys, forget the fact that Kawhi's at 8 and Steph is at 10 on the latest Ringer Top 100, Kevin Durant is 16 and LeBron James is 20. Which is the exact same logic of James Harden is better than Jalen Brunson. But I'd rather have Jaylen Brunson to win a playoff series. It's the, the contradictory it. Unless of course, what you're saying is by better I just mean who passes my own personal skills competition rather than who can. Whose skills actually translate to winning the most important games, which, and some of those skills are off the court. Our leadership, our availability, our, you know, chemistry, those types of things. And I said a month ago, maybe three weeks ago, why can't Jalen Brunson be this generation's Isaiah Thomas? And I think that take is aging very, very well. Because Isaiah Thomas is a vintage. Not necessarily. You had to be there because I wasn't there for most of it. But you have to be willing to accept and acknowledge that there is something that is not going to be quantifiable in someone's statistical profile that can be a huge part of why they're a winning basketball player. Isaiah Thomas, in his career one time finished in the top seven, seven in MVP voting. Isaiah Thomas one time in his career averaged more than 21 points per game. Now he was a super high assist guy. He's a true point guard. But Isaiah Thomas also for from college to the pros every single year got absolutely as far as his team possibly could. He figured out exactly what his team needed and was able to deliver it and how to keep that those teams connected. Now again they're very different players. Jalen Brunson is a high usage rate shoot first point guard and Isaiah Thomas was very different than that. But they are similar in that

their best when the moment matters, this fact that they are wildly undersized has no impact on their effectiveness whatsoever. And at some point when you win as much as those guys won, it can't be coincidental. And so there is and I'll tell you this demons a and maybe one of the reasons that tweet stuck in my head as much as it did was I could see myself, you know, one day in the future writing a very similar one about my guy Luka Doncic. Like Luca is better than player X, but this player is a better fit for winning than luca.
Damanze
If LUCA and makes it back to
Felger
the finals, well and so now where the people bring up like the Luca and Harden comps a lot and I think they're totally unfair because Luke has been such a playoff killer. He's been so good, he's historic second all time leading playoff points per game guy. His teams have constantly overachieved in the playoffs, played past their seat all of it.

with that said, we are Luca is trying to become the first true exclusively heliocentric player to lead a team to a championship. Depending on how you view LeBron's game. But like none of the other guys who played that way have won titles.
Colin Cowherd
And
Felger
it's still right now is like hard for me to wrap my mind around. The idea like if you're trying to win a championship is you would rather have Jalen Brunson than Luka. That feels like. That feels sacrilegious to me. But I don't know that this next team.
Damanze
Yeah, the hard one I feel like is very easy and obvious.
Felger
No but. And I think that guy was talking about peak Harden. But regardless.
Damanze
But like.
Felger
But here's what I don't as much as I love Luca, I can't say the Knicks would have been better with him. Like because you literally couldn't have been better than they just were. It would just be a tie. It's not just that they won the championship. They won the championship by annihilating everyone and by every single and here's the ephemeral piece of basketball. Would everyone have been as much of a star in their role without Brunson being the leader of that team? And it's again, Brunson takes a lot
Damanze
of shots, got the ball a lot right.
Felger
But so there's. It's not just about like does he pass but like the way he leads, the way he inspires with fourth quarter excellence. I the. The toughness component. Like here's something that is totally lost to the finals history. I thought Brunson might have suffered a season ending knee injury in game one.
Damanze
Game.
Felger
Yeah, yeah. Game one. It was like, oh my God, did the finals just end?
Damanze
Yeah.
Felger
Yes. All right. One other F. Nick's thing. We. We put out a clip and this is I guess similar to what I was just talking about. We put out a clip of me saying you can't paraphrasing. You can't come out of this series saying Victor when Benyama is better than Jalen Brunson. And the alleged smartest people on basketball Twitter just had a field day with it. Acting like it's just ridiculous. Take that shows a lack of sophistication and understanding of what basketball is and the value of defense and all these things. And once again and we should producers. I'm giving you guys an impossible job here. Can we. We should just have on call because I reference it so much that bell chart Bell graph IQ Meme where it's like the. The dumbest people and the smartest people think the same thing and the midwit people think the wrong thing. Essentially if I what I. If you've seen it, you know exactly what I just described. If you haven't, I apologize because I have these folks explaining to me or laughing at the idea that I could have the opinion that someone who just thoroughly and decisively outplayed another guy in a five game series for the championship. The idea that it's just ludicrous that that guy might be better than him and the amount of people who unironically were trying to explain to me how. I am totally discounting Victor's defensive impact when the championship was won because the other team couldn't stop Jalen brunson from scoring 45 fucking points that I am. I don't grasp what Victor does to other teams offenses when the championship was won with Jalen Brunson averaging 32 and a half points that I am failing to recognize the gap between those two for. We'll talk about the offense in a minute. Those two guys defensively is so vast despite the fact that in these playoffs the number one defense was the Knicks. So whatever Jalen's defensive limitations are, they must have found a workaround and whatever Victor's defensive strengths are, they. They must not have fully accentuated them because it's very. The spurs have a bunch of other elite defensive wings and yet the Knicks, with Brunson and Towns playing more minutes than anybody else. The. The Knicks had the number one defense these playoffs. Number one offense and number one defense this. Yes. And then I'll get to the other piece of it. But this is the. The meme. Can we throw it up there? Let me see what it is that. Yeah, so it's the guy on the left and the guy on the right have the same opinion. And then the. The. So it's. The idea is that the most basic and obvious stuff is often. Actually, it's what the dumbest people believe and the smartest people believe and then the. Sometimes the.
Damanze
Well, actually the conspiracy guy up at the. In the middle.
Felger
No, the. The guy up at the top's not a conspiracy guy, but it's the. It's that the folks who fancy themselves the smartest and look down on the simple basic opinions are often missing that the simple basic opinions are very often more rooted in more truth than their own.
Podcast Advertiser
And
Felger
so like the. To. To remove it from my example, it would be for that meme after Knicks. The Knicks are up three on the Cavs. The re. The dumb drooling guy would be saying the Knicks shore kicking the Cav's ass. And the super smart guy would be like the Knicks kicking the Cav's ass. And then the top, the guy in the middle is Kenny Atkinson saying, well, when you look at shot quality, we're actually up to one beautiful. And that's how I feel having people explain to me after this series not about who they'll be next year, not about what the future holds, but that right now Victor Winmanyama is better than Jalen Brunson. Why? Why? When first, if anything, this series showed that even if you are allegedly the greatest defensive player ever, there's no stopping another guy from averaging 30 plus in route to walking you guys down every fourth quarter. And the gap in their offensive games is so vast and the gap in their stamina levels is so vast that you just. It's certainly not a ridiculous opinion that the guy who was at his best at the end of all of these
Boost Mobile Advertiser
games
Colin Cowherd
and
Felger
was a fourth quarter killer and average 30 plus for the series, that right now, this moment, he's better than the guy who consistently wore down, made mental errors and repeated high pressure errors. And his lack of an offensive package was fully revealed throughout the series. Like, that's not, it's not only that's not a hot take and this is. And then we'll, we can move on. It would have been just the consensus opinion for the vast majority of sports history. Oh, you have two star players. We think the two teams are pretty equally, you know, the talent levels pretty equal. One guy just annihilated the other one. Well, he's probably better like that. That, that's not like it's, it's not supposed to be a hot take. All right, we'll do a little more Damanze on the NBA before we get to the World Cup. There have been eight different champions in the last eight years in the NBA. And you could say all of these teams that went about it in a different way. Do you think that there were any teams that could have possibly been motivated by this Knicks postseason run? Or I mean, even in basketball and other sports?
Felger
Well, I listen, I think that
Boost Mobile Advertiser
the.
Felger
In other sports, I think the Bills are going to feel like, you know what? We are the. We're the next ones up. And Josh Allen already put some voice to that recently. So I do think that's going to happen with some other sports. But in basketball, absolutely. I think the number one team is Minnesota. I think Minnesota's got to be like ant is our Jalen Brunson. You know, Julius Randle was traded for Cat and Rudy Gobert, right? And Rudy Gobert should be able to, you know, he's got the history with Victor there's that piece of it. If ant were healthier, if we, you know, find a way to replace in the Short term Dante DiVincenzo, why can't that be us? I so I think that is the number one team that sees this and gets, you know, excited about it. I also do think that this is less about the Knicks piece of it and more about the spurs piece of it. I wonder if the Nuggets watched this and were like, okay, we, we've got a lot of working work to do to make ourselves a fully formed team. But if we and I bet they felt this way going into the playoffs, if we get in a series against San Antonio, we like Joker's chances of leaning on Victor, wearing on Victor, frustrating Victor and over the course of two weeks wearing him out. And Victor does not yet have now again, we'll see what he comes back with next year. But Victor does not yet have enough of a refined post game to really take advantage of Joker's defensive limitations. And so I think those two teams are the teams that jump out to me more than anybody. I also think that if I am a team that is considering getting in the Giannis sweepstakes, I, I think the way I saw Victor struggle with some physicality makes Giannis all the more attractive. The just in that Giannis is, you know, 7ft tall, so much stronger than Victor. And again, I am one of my number one storylines going into next season is going to be can we be confident by the postseason that like this. Let me, let me back up. The spurs are going to have to, over the course of the regular season figure out one of two things. Are we good enough to win playoff games where Victor Wimanyama is on the bench for 16, 14 to 16 minutes? Are we good enough to whether that be let Dylan Harper run the show, whatever it is. Are we good enough to tread water in a quarter to a quarter and a half without Victor? If so, then we should be in great shape because we know Victor can give you 32 awesome minutes. Awesome minutes. If they're not going to be good enough for that, then what they're going to have to be is that what they're going to have to do is build Victor up over the course of the season to where him playing 40, 42 at times, 44 high intensity minutes is something he's able to do. And that might be defensively not having him out of the three point line as much. Offensively not having him out at three point line as much. It might mean some of that. But that is Victor's. As much as people are talking about Victor developing a post game, yes, Victor developing a go to offensive move is critical. But the most critical thing has to do with stamina and strength that he's got to work on. And for the rest of the league, if I am, if I'm the rest of the league, that as much as the Knicks team build is something I'm, you know, is I'm taking away from these finals. The other team that's got to look at these finals and really challenge their guys is Oklahoma City. And by their guys, I mean Chet in that it's got to be, listen, man, this guy just got what he did to you. The Knicks to a different degree were able to do to him. Now, the Knicks weren't able to make him totally ineffective like Chet was wholly and entirely ineffective. But as far as make him question himself and wear him down and you know, make him a lesser version of himself, they did that to him. He psychologically just got Chet out of the game and Chet never came back from it. And I think some of that for Chet is one of the underrated things about the Victor Chat piece. Everybody talked, myself included, about the, you know, the mental rivalry. But the other reason I think Victor dominated Chet so much is Chat's the only big in the league he's stronger than. So it's like, oh, I, it's. I not I'm taller than everybody, but this is also someone that I can push around when he can't push anybody else around. So that's on Chet to try to get a little stronger. All right, well, I know we have some follow ups here, so go ahead.
Damanze
Do you think it's more important to have the secret recipe or is it all about your path and health in these postseason runs?
Felger
So health is the most important thing. Like the there and the Knicks not underrated, but a very important part of The Knicks winning 15 of 16 playoff games is aside from OG missing a couple games with a hamstring, they were spectacularly healthy. So I that's the most important thing. The next most important thing is the team coming together. What you're talking about is the secret recipe. Like the team uniting as one and truly for fully bonding path is not always but usually overrated because you're very rarely are you going to have just a gilded path to a title. There's going to be a really hard team or sometimes you get very lucky with every team you play being injured. But that's pretty rare. It that is historically that's like once every 10 years that a team, you know, just nobody they play is whole. You seem like you disagree there.
Damanze
Yeah, I mean, yeah, I do. I do think, because I think I was tying it back into football, but I do think the path matters a lot and like when you see people and the timing of when you see them,
Boost Mobile Advertiser
I think that.
Felger
So I think that matters probably more in football than in the NBA. I also, because I just think that it's very rare that a team that's undeserved finds a way to win four seven game series. And so I like, I don't think I. So I just think path slightly overrated. I think health is underrated almost and. But the bonding of a team together, which is what you saw, the Knicks over the course of the playoffs is a wildly underrated piece of this. Do you have other follow ups you want to do?
Damanze
Where would you rank this Knicks drought among amongst all time droughts?
Felger
Well, the Cubs and the Red Sox are the most famous like droughts. And those both ended in the last 20 years. I guess the Red Sox ended 22 years ago. Other than that, I know like the Browns have never won a Super Bowl. The Lions have never been to a Super Bowl. The Bills and Vikings have been to four each and never won. I understand there are teams that have had longer than 53 years, but it really doesn't feel like there are higher profile teams, big market that have had droughts like this. Not just big market, but just like the Knicks have always been an important franchise that have always played in the NBA's most important building. And so I think that as far as sports droughts of my lifetime, it would go Cubs 1, Red Sox 2, Knicks 3. And for a long time it looked like the Knicks were never ever going to break it. Like they just, it seemed like Dolan was just a terrible owner that they were. They were not going to have the right leadership. They were always going. And I think that's part of the reason so many of us scoffed somewhat at the Brunson signing when it happened was we were just jaded that the Knicks consistently make bad signings. And that's what it felt like they had done for years and years. All right, one more here before we get to the US Men's national team.
Damanze
Do you have a way too early 2027 championship pick?
Felger
So I believe the Celtics are going to get Giannis.
Damanze
Hope so.
Felger
And you hope so?
Damanze
Yes.
Felger
Right? Yeah.
Damanze
Awesome.
Felger
If they get Giannis, I'll pick them.
Damanze
I mean, you could nearly claim that they have the Two. Two best players in the east on the same team almost. I don't know what's going to be going on with Embiid. Oh, Jalen Brunson is over there.
Boost Mobile Advertiser
My bad.
Felger
Yeah. I was about to say.
Boost Mobile Advertiser
Yeah,
Felger
it's. That was very. That you saying, I don't know what's going on with. Embiid's one of the nicest. Embiid's not in the discussion anymore.
Boost Mobile Advertiser
Sadly.
Felger
Halliburton could get back in that discussion. Hopefully Donovan Mitchell is in the vicinity of it. Is there. But as far as, like a sixer. Yeah, yeah. Cade's in the vicinity of it. Maxi's in the vicinity of it. But yeah, I mean, the three best players right now in the Eastern Conference are Giannis, Brunson and Tatum. Those are the three best guys. Fourth best is probably Cade, and fifth best is probably Fifth is Donovan Mitchell. Sixth is Jalen Brown. So you already have, you know, two of the best. But I. The other reason I like the Celtics trading for Giannis so much is it would force a stylistic change. They would have to become less 3 point reliant because. Right. Because that's just not who Giannis is going to be.
Damanze
It would be funny if they just turned Giannis into a knockdown three point shooter.
Felger
Yeah. Yeah. Well, that would be. That'd be unbelievable. Joe Missoul's like, I don't care if you're shooting 26%, you're shooting seven a game. So I. Once the free agency dust settles, we'll do more 2027 NBA stuff. But where Giannis goes is going to have a lot to do with how I feel about this. All right, before we get to the U.S. men's National Team, you ever notice how everything keeps going up? Rents going up? Streaming services are going up? visit zepboundlily.com all right, Daman, and you know what? I'm making an executive decision here. We are going to do Team USA here and then for tomorrow's show, we're going to do a recap of week one of the World cup outside of Team usa. So we'll do a for if you're listening right now, we'll have an extra episode come out tomorrow that'll just be, you know, match day one of the World Cup. Thoughts on where we stand on all of it and how much more plasma I'm gonna have to donate to make up for all my losing moneyline favorite bets. But let's talk US Men's National Team here.
Damanze
The US Men's National Team exceeded all expectations in their 41 win over Paraguay. Now we face Australia, which is also coming off a nice one of their own. Are you ready to raise or raise the bar on the expectations or do we still have more to prove coming up?
Felger
And I don't know if we have some Hard rock bet. There we go. There's our hard rock bet signage. I love that. No, I think you can raise the bar on the expectations, but I also want. I want to. And by the time you hear this, you know they might have played the game against Australia. I mean, this is coming out. We're doing this live on Thursday. If you're watching us on YouTube right now, we appreciate it. I know some of you guys obviously listen the next day and that game's Friday afternoon, but I, there's a lot I want to get into here. Okay, Christian. Christian Bisic. This is his moment. He was awesome in the first Half of the game against Paraguay and they got kicked in the calf and didn't play after halftime. He had been kicked in the calf previously and been dealing with like some calf soreness. And now throughout this week he's been practicing off to the side. There's some anxiety about whether or not he's playing. These are the biggest games of Pulisic's life. And I understand trying to be cautious and I understand in theory the idea of, well, let's have Christian, you know, a little extra time to then make sure he's at 100% for the knockout round games. Guys. The difference in the US Chances of going on a real run if they win the group versus what if they finish second in the group is so massive if you win. And this is the part that I'm not sure people have really grasped and it's hard to explain because there's so many ifs associated with who could finish second in other groups, etc. But if you win, what we know for a fact is this. If you win group D, then in the round of 32, you play a third place team. Now that third place team can come from group B, E, F, I or J. And we obviously don't know who the third place teams are going to be in all those groups. But barring some shocking turn of events like let me see if there's even a, you know, Argentina all of a sudden falling to third in their group. The third place team that you face in the round of 32, if you win the group, you are going to be a big favorite over. If you win that, if you win that group or that knockout round game, then you play the first place team from maybe the, the group with the weakest potential first place team in Belgium. If again, if the US wins Group D, they in the round of 32 will be playing a third place team. They then would be playing, in all likelihood the winner of group G, which would either be Egypt, New Zealand, Iran or Belgium. Belgium was the favorite, but Belgium just had a 11 draw with Egypt and hasn't looked, you know, in its one game. Didn't look like world beaters. And that would put you in position to make your first quarterfinal in or your second quarterfinal in Team USA history. Now is not the time under any circumstances to be, you know, I don't even want to say resting, but taking it easy. You go beat Australia and you potentially could have the group locked up tomorrow. If the US Beats Australia tomorrow and gets to six points and Paraguay ties or beats Turkey, you lock the group up, it's over, it's done with. And the benefit of that again they I this is hard to do and I hope it's not bad podcasting so to speak but I just want to explain to the audience like the difference in the paths if you will. If you finish second in the group, if you're Team USA, then in your first in your round of 32 game you're playing the second place team from that Belgium group. So Belgium, Egypt, New Zealand or Iran. And in Your round of 16 game you are almost assuredly playing Argentina. Argentina in the round of 16 probably. Good night, good luck. Another round of 16 knockout for the U.S. conversely if you win your group, you're playing a third place team in the round of 32, probably Belgium or Egypt in the round of 16. And then if you want to get really ambitious and start thinking, you know, really big thoughts. All right then who would you be playing in the round of eight? Well, the highest ranking team on in that part of the bracket would be the winner of group H, which group Hs Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde, Uruguay and Spain. Spain, which all of a sudden, you know, played one game, doesn't look unbeatable. You really actually have a path if you win your group, which is why you should. They should be over the moon about how they played in the first game. But you cannot lose that momentum. By Christian Pulisic being overly cautious with this calf injury. I, I can't, I, I can't stress this enough. I am going to be beside myself if he doesn't give it a go Friday he got kicked in the calf twice. He, they were very cautious with him in the Gold cup to the much to the dismay of Pochettino, the coach Baligan could be one of the breakout stars of the tournament. The team is healthy. It's, it's got this massive home field advantage. They absolutely have a shot at going on a real run and we'll see how the bracket falls. But what they do control is the they can win the group tomorrow by beating Australia and having Paraguay take a point off Turkey. It's just over then and then you can be as cautious with guys as you want. I by the way, Ike De Monze on the game tomorrow, I do think they're going to win, I believe, I think Pulisic is going to play. I think they're going to win and I think we're going to be thinking really big potential thoughts about how deep this team can go. Again, I can't overstate and how fortuitous of all the potential group winners, the group that happened to have the cleanest potential path to the round of eight is the winner of Group D and the winner of Group D just happened or Group D happens to be the United States group. So you know that that is my general takeaway going into the Australia game. Here's what we're going to do. We're going to end this show here and then we will come back with a quick show tomorrow giving thoughts on Match day one across the World cup with Portugal's Ronaldo problem, the stars being absolute super duper stars. All of that quick World cup show that will come to you guys tomorrow. But we wanted to get the U.S. men's National Team stuff in here because they play tomorrow. So great job Demons. A thank you to Hard Rock Bet. Thank you to Boost thank you to Volume and to Blue Duck. Be back right here on Friday maybe even Friday morning with Little World a little World cup mini episode like Rate Subscribe View to the channel Talk to you guys then we'll trade Are you
