We have these Shaolin monks and they look scrawny, but they're doing one finger pushups. And they're stronger than some of these guys who are just a wall of muscle. And what you don't want to do is be like a big wall of muscle with no neurological strength backing it up. But what you're pointing out with jaws are size is that you're getting neuromuscular strength because the jaw is so tied into the nervous system. Which is why you're saying if people are doing their deadlift and they bite down on the jaws are size, they're giving me alignment right there. That alignment creates neurological strength in the neuromuscular connection. You could l take people in retirement homes and say like do this every day and it would have cognitive effects because of the blood flow and it would have nitric oxide effects and probably even postural and other effects.
Brandon
And then my lady says, oh my gosh, your sleep apnea is gone. And then I talked to my doctor about it. He says, well, the main cause of sleep apnea or one of the main causes is a weak lower jaw because.
Dave Asprey
It falls back at night, I guess. And this is one of the things, it's kind of a no brainer. It's not expensive and it works.

Poor recovery speeds up aging. When you don't recover from stress properly, your cells get weaker and accumulate damage. HeartMath changes that the inner balance coherence plus trains your body to recover at the source your nervous system. The setup is pretty simple. You connect a sensor to your ear that pairs to the HeartMath app, which guides you through an HRV exercise in five minutes a day, your body shifts out of stress mode and into coherence, the state where recovery, focus and peak performance happen. Most devices only track recovery. HeartMath trains it. It works by targeting heart rate variability, or hrv, your body's most reliable marker of resilience. Higher HRV means faster recovery, deeper sleep and stronger performance. Decades of Science prove that HeartMath works. Over 400 studies show measurable results in as little as six weeks. That means less anxiety, better sleep, more energy and sharper focus. That's why elite athletes, hospitals and the US military all use the interbalance coherence. Plus, this is one of the things I think everyone should be doing. Don't just track recovery, train it to get 15% off. Go to heartmath.com Dave.

Now you're in a coma for 13 days and you shattered your jaw.
Brandon
Yeah.
Dave Asprey
So what happened?
Brandon
Well, well, Dave, I actually had multiple injuries. A jaw injury in Alaska. I was wired shut for a combination of four months. Wow. And then during my recovery I went to Hawaii and I got in a motorcycle accident the third day. I had bought the CX1000, no helmet yet, my own fault. And I was leaving work, I did a little showboat in the rain and I just lost control at about 50 and face planted, fractured my whole skull back in front of everybody at work. And they, wow. Kind of ran up, gave me a kick in the ribs to see if I would stop twitching and. And then the ambulance shut up and picked me up and it's like, wow.
Dave Asprey
Can you zoom in on that?
Brandon
Wow.
Dave Asprey
So you were like trashed.
Brandon
Yeah, trash. And that was the recovery on the jaw injury.
Dave Asprey
So it was about, look how swollen you were.
Brandon
Yeah, it was honestly it about four years to really get everything up and going. But you know, 12 years later I still work on my cognitive skills and do a lot of meditating and yoga and stuff like that.
Dave Asprey
Wow. We got to hook you up with some lasers and some neurofeedback. You can bring all that back.
Brandon
I love it. Yeah.
Dave Asprey
I took a titanium knee to the head at high speed at Burning man one year and I had a.
Like bleeding in my brain. I couldn't remember anything. I couldn't even play go fish with my kids. I was swearing all the time. Sent Tim Ferriss this really angry email for something he didn't actually do because I was like out of my mind. I was like, sorry Tim, didn't mean to do that. But.
It can be a big deal. But you also had like.
Neuromuscular issues with your jaw. Right. Because when it's wired shut, people don't understand that the jaw tells the body where you are in space. So your whole body, your posture, scoliosis, where your pelvis is, it's all controlled by your jaw in a very subtle way. And you had to rehab all that. And so how did you go about figuring out what to do?
Brandon
Well, I mean, that was kind of the first step is after being wired shut for four months, I went from a primal cage fighter to, like, I lost mobility in my bite. And then I noticed, like, atrophy in the. In the bone, but mostly in the muscle.
Dave Asprey
Wow.
Brandon
And it was sort of like my primal urge had just been taken completely from me. And it was really hard to just get up and going and get excited about stuff and. And a previous life, I was a mixed martial artist in Alaska. So I used to be a cage fighter. And I would chew on a piece of nylon to strengthen my masseter, giving me a better bite on my mouthpiece, making it easier to hold throughout a fight or to take up a punch or a kick. I always thought it was a great idea to exercise the facial muscles, but I didn't see the real need for it until I was wired shut for four months. So that's what brought this to fruition. I've always had the idea ever since high school. My wrestling coach would tell me, that's what gum's for. Don't waste your time. You know, I always see my. My friends chewing, like, packs of gum, trying to sharpen their jaw, and it's really about, like, the minimal range of motion, the microplastics, artificial flavors that come in so much gum that the masses chew.
Dave Asprey
I was absolutely addicted to, like, NutraSweet gum. When I was in high school and. And part of college, I would chew, like, pack a day, like a big pack a day.
Brandon
Oh, yeah.
Dave Asprey
And I was poisoning my brain the whole time, too, so it was terrible for you.
Brandon
I mean, that's it, Dave. It's like the. What it does to your saliva, to your oral health, leads to your gut health, and then, you know, your second brain is your gut.
Dave Asprey
But you didn't fix yourself with gum.
Brandon
No, not at all. That's. That's when I seen that I needed a device that I could, you know, safely keep made in the usa out of medical grade silicone. Actually, it's food grade, it's medical grade, but it's not designed to be left in the body, like, to be implanted. So it's just the highest quality silicone. And what it basically does is it gets the full mobilization of the TMJ joint, you know, here, as close to teeth. To teeth as possible.
Dave Asprey
So you gave me one of these at an event a while ago and it's like, I'll try this thing out. And it's different than the plasticky crap out there, but you're like, yeah, and it definitely does something. And in the world of longevity, if you just look at grip strength, this is one of the biggest markers of how old you are. In fact, if they do a DNA methylation test, like a true age test, it'll Predict with about 90% accuracy how strong your grip is. Just based on your genes, your grip's important, but your jaw strength is more important. They just don't usually measure that. And all sorts of negative changes happen to your jaw that are reflected throughout the entire body. So when you gave me one of your jaw exercise devices, I'm like, this is an interesting idea because you just applied a bunch of science and said, well, what if we treated it like we were doing weight training? What did you find in your own nervous system? Not just the definition. I mean, it's going to change the way your face looks. But what changes were there?
Brandon
You know, there was definitely an increase of my hand eye coordination and I believe it was from the cranial muscles activating and then the blood flow and then just the alignment of the facial muscles and structure. You know, I think people have. The TMJ joint is so small and so easy to get out of line. Especially with the modern diet, we really don't bite, rip and tear anything, which is what the canines are designed for. We cook, cut, blend and process in our, in modern society. So this is like a mechanical substitution for what we're missing from a rough, tough, hunters and gatherers raw diet. You know, they've always. I've seen a study about how hunters and gatherers would chew for eight plus hours a day on a tough rough diet. Whereas opposed to the average American, choose less than 30 minutes a day.
Dave Asprey
Wow.
Brandon
And let alone its way process much softer, which all plays a role in bone structure. And you know, because pressure is what maintains bone blood flow, resistance is what creates connective muscles or muscles. But then it keeps the connective tissues healthy, you know, gets the synovial fluid pumping. And a lot of people are in the fight or flight mode to where they're clenching. You know, they're clenching or they're biting their nails or some oral fixation. You know, they're smoking cigarettes, biting their nails, clenching their Jaw. It's just a way to align the facial structure and then. And then release it. You know, we always said in the beginning, it creates a tight fit face. And a lot of people are like, wow, my jaw is so tight, I don't want it any tighter. Which is kind of the misconception because it exerts the muscles. You know, the master is the pound for pound, strongest muscle in the human body. The softer the diet gets, the less use that the master gets, the smaller the jaw gets from lack of pressure blood flow. And the main kicker that we've noticed is just if we can multiply blood flow to the brain and blood saliva for the oral health and for gut health, it just creates a really healthy system. You know, the blood's pumping, the slab is pumping, creates a good oral health, which then, you know, goes right down to the gut.
Dave Asprey
My friends at Viome, Naveen's been on the show multiple times. They just proved how important your oral microbiome is for your entire microbiome. And it really does start with chewing saliva flow and things like that. And then if you go way back in time to like 1300 episodes ago, Dr. Dwight Jennings came on, who's a craniofacial neurological guy, and he's the guy who expanded my upper palate, brought my jaw down and forward. I did not understand how important the jaw was for longevity and for cognitive function and even for movement. You said hand eye coordination. It's absolutely tied now if. If I'm. And I also had a history of tmj, which I don't have anymore because I fixed the alignment. Does the jawsicides help with tmj?
Brandon
So it's TMJ exercise. You know, motion is lotion. You align and exert the muscles. See, I like to think that people have restless jaw syndrome these days, kind of like restless leg syndrome if they sit too much. Well, now their jaw's restless because it's not being exerted. So in 2020, we ran a small clinical study with a doctor out of Florida on about 30 people, and we found that nine out of 10 people found immediate relief from their bruxism, clenching, or grinding. Wow. Just from exercising, exercise and Release. And the 10th person saw no difference. So in the beginning, it was like, we, first off, we're not a medical device. We don't make medical claims.
Dave Asprey
Sure.
Brandon
But the western medicine world was thinking, oh, if you have tmd, the dysfunction of the tmj, you should go to a soft diet. Maybe you should botox the muscle. And. And I, I believe you Know, again, I'm not a doctor, but if you could use exert it, align it and release it. I mean, we've just seen crazy results. You know, we definitely don't want to go against anybody's TMD protocols from their doctors, but it's a, it's something easy to add to your toolbox.
Dave Asprey
Cool.
Brandon
And it's like you put a few reps in, it's like, wow, this feels right. Or if it, you know, if it feels wrong, you can easily return it.
Dave Asprey
Isn't it fun to be in the US where you actually like, can't just say something because you're not allowed to say it?
Brandon
Yeah, I mean it's, it's definitely. See, that's the crazy part. It's like I've seen, especially in the beginning, I've seen all of the benefits from a medical perspective, just myself personally, because I had a weak lower jaw, I had terrible sleep apnea, like almost like since I was 12 years old at least. And my lady tells me 30 days into doing extreme testing, we were, I was doing like 5 to 10,000 reps a day every day because I wanted to see if this could affect somebody in a bad way before I release it, that I was going to make sure it was myself.
Dave Asprey
Like, could you over train your job?
Brandon
Yeah, yeah. And then it's just all I was getting was these crazy results. I was maxing my max outsets every day. I had this extra just like, go get her done attitude. And then my lady says, oh my gosh, your sleep apnea is gone.
Dave Asprey
Wow.
Brandon
And I was like. And then I talked to my doctor about it. He says, well, the main cause of sleep apnea, one of the main causes is a weak lower jaw because it.
Dave Asprey
Falls back at night, I guess, right.
Brandon
In your air passageway. So your jaw strength, your facial structure and muscles all affect your airways.
Dave Asprey
Wow. I never thought about it for specifically something like an apnea or even just snoring because apnea has different causes. Like you said, you can have swollen tissues and all, but it's really bad for you if you sleep on your back, which is actually good for you if you don't have this. But if you sleep on your back and your jaw just goes. And it closes it off. That's one of the reasons I sleep with a bite guard. I put mouth tape on it helps, but they make a special kind of mouth guard that holds your jaw forward so you won't snore. And you're saying you just train your jaw to behave itself.
Brandon
That's it. Exactly. It's about pulling the lower jaw out to get it closer to that teeth to teeth. Because so much of our diet is cut up. And then we feed to the molars. Right, Right hand. And you feed the right side, vice versa. So you're retracting your jaw, getting so many reps like this. We gotta get here.
Dave Asprey
Oh, man, I love you saying that.
One of the things that makes me really happy is when supplements kick pharmaceuticals ass. And I've got something for you. It's called C15 from a company called Fatty 15. And it's more effective than metformin or rapamycin. In fact, scientists are calling this newly discovered essential fat the longevity nutrient because it's the first essential fat to be discovered in the last 90 years. C15 is unlike anything else out there because it's a true geroprotector, meaning it actually slows biological aging in studies. How does that work? By strengthening your cell membranes by 80%, activating AMPK and MTOR, which you've read about in my books. That means less inflammation and a reduction of oxidative stress by 45%. Scientists have found over 36 clinically relevant health benefits from fatty 15. Public estimates are that 1 in 3 people have low C15 levels in their bodies. And if you don't have enough C15, you have fragile cells and you age more quickly. Fatty 15 supports your cells better than omega 3s or fish oil, with three times more benefits for your cells. I use both. In clinical studies, 72% of fatty 15 users reported deeper sleep, better mood, healthier joints, and better energy improvement in 16 weeks. It's a pretty incredible story and it's real. Better yet, they're giving you 15% off their 90 day subscription starter kit. Just go to fatty15.com Dave.
Believe it or not, your nervous system works overtime to handle modern stressors, including EMFs and toxins in your environment. That extra work in your nervous system means you're likely to feel low energy, less focus, and not recover very well. Enter Quantum upgrade. It's a 247 service that sends quantum energy straight to you wherever you choose. It doesn't sound believable, but this is based on real science and not just a little bit. There are 14 placebo controlled studies that back it up. The same kind of studies that big Pharma uses. A recent study on Quantum Upgrade had some amazing results. Stress brainwaves dropped 80% in 30 minutes and 13 times more Alpha brainwaves in the limbic system, which is what supports calmness and relaxation. And HRV improved, showing stronger stress response and faster recovery in study participants. You can send Quantum Upgrade energy to your home, your body, even your pet. And They've just added 30 frequency options to choose from, including specific brain support, weight management, focus, and more. And to be honest, it would be easier if this didn't work because then I wouldn't feel called to talk about it. But this is real. Right now, you can get a 15 day free trial of Quantum Upgrade. You don't even need to enter your credit card info. Go to quantumupgrade IO, use code Dave at checkout and give it a try.
I didn't know this, so I had serious problems. This is 20 years ago. I always had TMJ and all, and I realized that for me to chew, I'd like crank my jaw back and up. And it was a lot of pressure to chew. And what's happening is the trigeminal nerve is right here and it runs right next to the vagus nerve, which controls fight or flight throughout the body. So if you get inflammation in the TMJ joint and the nerve right there, then those inflammatory cytokines and signaling molecules go across into your vagal nerve. So then you're constantly in fight or flight because of the way you have to chew, because your jaw is out of shape. So I did a lot of alignment stuff and all, and now my teeth rest just like you're saying. My lower jaw is forward and you bring it forward. The relaxation response, the parasympathetic response, it's huge. It completely changed my brain. I had much less brain fog. And this is a different approach to solving the same problem. And the other thing that comes to mind, if you're looking at stretching something, oh, I'm just going to stretch. I'm going to do this thing. Stretching doesn't actually do very much. It kind of stretches out the fascia a little bit. But what really drives this is teaching the body that it's strong at the end of a range of motion, right? So it's strength and safety at the edge that causes it. So muscles are causing the stretching, not just stretching fascia or ligaments. And what I appreciate about this is unless you're biting like a big old, I don't know, apple or something, most people aren't taking a big bite with full strength. But when you're doing this, your jaw is pretty far open. So you're training it to be strong when it's open and strong when it's closed. So you're getting full range exercise. It's it seems deceptively simple, but it's a noticeable difference for sure.
Brandon
And that's the way these universal fitting strips, because the original was designed to be boiled for 30 seconds, then fits your teeth. That works great for athletes, for full contact sports. But the regular person who wants to just create a healthy face and maintain it, your teeth fit universal, because it's real soft around there, so it goes right in.
Dave Asprey
Plus, I mean, you look really cool when you're doing it.
Brandon
And that's the thing, too. It does look crazy. But once you feel it and you see the results, all of a sudden, you don't care what other people think, because it's like, wow. I really get this primal urge back that I feel like modern diet, humanity is taken from me.
Dave Asprey
Wow.
Brandon
So once. Once you get that, and that's another tip, too, is like, I was always big on the mouth taping. I actually had a whole design. I was going to launch these that look cool, like mustaches and big old Betty Bob lips.
Dave Asprey
Nice.
Brandon
But then I realized once I added the. Because we have one that hits the molars, right? It's called the Jaws are Pro. So it goes in and hits the back four molars. You can move it in and out a little bit, right? Strengthens that area. Then you drop to the canines on the large pop and go. And then the small pop and go hits the incisors. Once you combine a symmetrical workout to all those teeth forward, your jaw just sits closed. Like. I went from being a mouth taper to like. Because my theory was big piece of tape, littler piece of tape, littler piece of tape. Eventually, no piece of tape. Wow. And I found that somehow adding the molar bite into the two. I sleep. I mean, even if I'm sitting up in a plane now, my mouth stays shut. And it's always something I've strived to do because mouth breathing is just not the way to go.
Dave Asprey
No one wants to be a slack jaw, Right. It's not a compliment. We'll put it that way. Now, one of the things, people hand me all sorts of stuff at events, and they send me all sorts of stuff. And so I was a little bit skeptical of jaws or size. And then you told me about the clinical trial you did. What did you find in your clinical trial?
Brandon
I mean, it was. Everybody saw a lifting in their face. We use, like, the special camera that showed how much it lifts. It lifted in 30 days. We saw it was almost a 400 increase in jaw strength from just the average basic routine, which was very minimal back 30 days. Yeah, in 30 days.
Dave Asprey
What about wrinkles?
Brandon
That was something we. That we have the exact honors our study that shows. But it's smoothed out wrinkles. And it was like, a minor lift because the camera got it, like, to the millimeter.
Dave Asprey
It's just like a 33 reduction. The study that I read, yeah. So reduction of wrinkles and an increase in jaw strength. But do people see, like, a difference in the shape of their face?
Brandon
It's so crazy how fast it works. It's literally daily. It works. If you go to the gym and you get the. You hit the arms, you leave the gym, your arms look pumped. They have a certain glow to them within one workout. You know, the more trained you are, the better you see results, obviously. But just one workout that you haven't done. Like, you have to take a picture to show day one to day seven, because you will look so different, but it changes daily. So it's such a smooth transition to where if someone hadn't seen you for seven days, they're gonna say, what did.
Dave Asprey
You change in just seven days? That's cool. I didn't track mine that way.
Brandon
No. So quick.
Dave Asprey
How many reps per day do people have to do to get that?
Brandon
So we recommend five to ten minutes a day. You know, give or take.
Dave Asprey
It's all at once.
Brandon
You could break it up into sets throughout the day. It really depends on how strong your master is.
Dave Asprey
You know, I don't think I could do 10 minutes straight with that thing. Oh, I get pretty worn out.
Brandon
Yeah, no, no, you would break it up in a sense. You know, there's actually a draws resize app that's. That's free. It's AI So you just set your phone up. It's. It scans your face. You take your progress pictures, but then it also has a mesh on it to count your reps as you go.
Dave Asprey
Oh, that's cool.
Brandon
Yes. We have about, I think about 7,000 downloads. We have leaderboard, and there's. I mean, there's a couple champions in there for three, four months straight. And they're. They're putting in, like, a lot of hours to. To get there, but like, facial athletes. Facial athletes. You know, I always seen, like, eating competitions, like, how many hot dogs can you cram down your throat in six in 60 seconds?
Dave Asprey
But we never really tried that myself.
Brandon
Yeah, it's just. I just figure as far as exercise and stuff.
Dave Asprey
Rib eyes, we're talking about.
Brandon
Yeah, I realize I've always thought that, like, a facial exercise challenge that was mixed with Some peanut butter, you know, because it's not, it's going to be a healthier contest because if you do a thousand reps then you got to eat a couple tablespoons of really dry peanut butter. It really works. You, you know, that's another part about the jaws are sizes. It works on the way down the compress and the clench, but then also on the release. You know, it works the muscles as well as you slowly release.
Dave Asprey
One of the other parts of the mouth that doesn't get a lot of attention is the tongue. And oh, four or five years ago I realized I had a tongue tie which is when that little cord underneath your tongue, little fin, whatever you want to call it, it's too tight. So I couldn't actually put my tongue on the roof of my mouth fully like in the back of the palate. And all these meditation glasses in Tibet and all touch your tongue to the roof of your palate. I was touching the tip of my tongue but the rest of my palate got no stimulation. So I had surgery. I had to do a whole set of tongue rehab because the tongue's another muscle. Does the jaws are size do anything for the tongue or does the tongue just naturally strengthen or.
Brandon
Oh, 100 Dave. So that's, this is the tongue plate. If we can see here how there's a slight curve of a wave there.
Dave Asprey
Yep.
Brandon
So it's your engage your tongue and.
Dave Asprey
You push on it with your tongue.
Brandon
No tongue. Right, tongue. See how it really targets the neck and the tongue?
Dave Asprey
Yeah. That's going to tighten up your neck. Right.
Brandon
It's so fast. You know, people are always worried about the double chin or gravity. It's like just reverse gravity with motion, with resistance, with blood flow, oxygen, nutrients. Like it's the first thing at birth a human knows to do is succulate to breastfeed. You don't have to teach humans how to do that. You just.
Dave Asprey
Does it help to actually still breastfeed? I'm just asking for a friend.
Brandon
I think it helps the transition. Right. Because you go from a breastfeed to a soft served baby food.
Dave Asprey
Does it help you keep a straight face when I say really stupid things? Yeah, you did an admirable job there.
Brandon
Does but it's, it's such a huge thing for humanity especially you know, we let parents decide how old the kid can be before they can use it. We don't have many clinical studies for kids or younger. But the jaw development strength all starts and the body starts with the jaw. So if you can create a Healthy face structure. Because here, here's one of our friends in Maui, she had a, she has a baby. She was one before she's one. She had two teeth and she would grind them all the time. When we gave her the small jaws, her size on a necklace, you know, so she wouldn't choke, of course. And about a year, year and a half later, her, all of her teeth grew in with the perfect space between them.
Dave Asprey
Wow.
Brandon
So she has like a model.
Dave Asprey
Signal for her face. Wow, that's amazing.
Brandon
It's crazy.
Dave Asprey
Instead of teething with just some dumb teething ring.
Brandon
Yeah.
Dave Asprey
You can actually use the jaws.
Brandon
It's about creating the direct pressure and then, and then it allows for the jaw to expand and grow and develop for all the teeth to fit. You know, the softer the jaw, the, the dyad, the smaller the jaw, the less room for teeth. And then it's, you know, braces and correcting all these things that I believe that, you know, if you start with a proper facial structure, with proper exercise, you can not only build but maintain, you know, because even on that day. So at the tail end of life as people who are older, they stop talking so much, their diet gets softer, everybody's got text neck. So their gum health and their teeth health start to decay. Well, that's kind of like the first thing you develop when you can't move is your jaw and facial structure cranial stimulate the brain.
Dave Asprey
Oh, that's interesting.
Brandon
And then as you start to concave and lose it, you know, you start to lose teeth and then you lose pressure to that part of the, of the, of the face which then the bone decays. So could this be the kind of fountain of youth that can keep your faith face looking healthy? I don't know for how long, but for as long as you can continue to use it.
Dave Asprey
One of the things I think it was, Pavel talked about this a long time ago, you know, a strength athlete and he would travel around with a grip trainer. He's like, oh, sometimes I can't train. I just train this one muscle in my hands and that's enough for me for a couple weeks to maintain whole body fitness. And you could be hearing that going, that sounds like bs. It has to do with muscle signaling and probably some bone morphogenic protein and things like that. But if I was bedridden in a hospital and I couldn't move my body, if I trained my jaw or my grip strength, it is going to have systemic effects. But I never thought of using jaw training that way. So you could literally take People in retirement homes and say, like, do this every day. And it would have cognitive effects because of the blood flow, and it would have nitric oxide effects and probably even postural and other effects. That's a cool idea.
Brandon
100%. Head, neck, and jaw placement all affects your posture. You know, if you get an imbalance in the tmj, next thing you know, your jaw's popping a little bit, it's grinding. Next thing you know, your shoulders out, then your hips out, then you're leading with one foot a little more than you want to. So it really starts with the nervous system, the base of the brain, the spinal cord, and that. That TMJ being perfectly in line, right? There's so many people that they try the product and there's like, a little quick pop, and they're like, oh, my gosh, I feel like my jaw just popped back in place. And they no longer have. Their Jaw no longer pops. They no longer have this crazy imbalance that throws the whole, you know, we're on this. Gotta be to work, gotta pick the kids up traffic. We're all in this fight or flight mode to. Whereas if you could breathe. You know, another thing I like about this, Dave, is it forces the nasal breathing. You know, in the beginning, a lot of people are saying, put a hole in the middle of it so you can breathe. And it's like. Then people came more aware that, wait, you shouldn't nasal breathe more than mouth breathe.
Dave Asprey
Wow.

So as you release the tension and breathe in, breathe out, it's like a calorie free snack. You know, people, they do a lot of grazing. You know, they're eating chips, they're keeping the jaw going all day to. Whereas you. If you could produce the resistance and then increase the saliva and blood flow, it's. It's almost like it. It curves your appetite. You know, if you do. If you take a thousand bites on this thing, the last thing you really want to do is grab a bag of chips and, like, continue. There's just so many ways that this is a biohacking tool for the toolbox.
Dave Asprey
My buddy Dwight Jennings, the dentist, he cured tons of scoliosis by changing people's bite alignment. He showed that if one side of the molars was hitting before the others, that the head doesn't know only the fifth cranial nerve goes from the jaw back into the brain to show you your proprioception. So these kids, or even adults, they're getting like this because their jaw isn't hitting right. And so what you found is people are Strengthening the jaw. They're getting better jaw alignment. And of course your posture changes because now your head has a better sense of where it is in the world. And it's lined up right. It's really important and it's almost unheard of, even in the world of longevity or in biohacking. But it's really important. I just hadn't found a good solution for it other than like electricity or something on the jaw.
Brandon
No. It's so crazy. To me, it's such an overlooked but simple, you know, area to work out. It's just, how can you do it safely? And, you know, there's, there's a bunch of knockoffs from overseas on our product. We, we are proudly made in America with multiple patents. So one of my big fears is when they, someone buys the cheap knockoff or whatever, half the price, stuff coming from China, it's like it smells bad, it tastes bad, it has clearly chemicals in the silicon.
Dave Asprey
You feel your testosterone drop if you try to use it.
Brandon
Something, I mean, we, we order all of them because if we're going to do any legal battles with them, we have to test them first. And I don't mind. There's billions of mouths out there. I couldn't get to a tenth of them. I've tried. So. But I do worry that people are like, oh, wow, that's a great concept, great idea. Then they get tricked by the knockoff and they're actually, it's worse for them.
Dave Asprey
Same thing happened when I was, when I was running Bulletproof. And guys, Danger Coffee is my new coffee brand in case you still think I'm tied to Bulletproof. But I made this really expensive MCT oil that worked. And then this little company called Onit came along, decided they were going to copy it as part of. You read about this in my new book, all the stuff that happened with Joe Rogan and whatever. But they came out with a cheap MCT oil that contained something that was legal to call MCT oil, but it didn't raise ketones at all. So now people are putting this stuff in whatever their moldy coffee is, and then they're saying it doesn't work very well, or I filled my pants, I'm like, guys, you did it wrong. It was not the same material. And so cheap knockoffs, when there's a really good innovation in the world, cheap knockoffs oftentimes take down a concept because people think it doesn't work. It's kind of like I wanted to buy a Tesla, so I ordered one from some Chinese website. And it came, and it was only three feet long, and it didn't work. Well, it wasn't actually a Tesla. It's that kind of. Kind of a thing. So you want to give it a try. It's like 59 bucks. And then you get 15% off of that. So it's not expensive. One of the things that people are always saying is biohacking is expensive. This is not an expensive device, but it has big effects throughout the body. One of the reasons is that there's something called bone morphogenic protein, and we don't really think about it, but our bones are piezoelectric. And piezoelectricity is this really cool thing. And we do this in some material science, like in phones and things. If you flex certain materials, they create electricity just from the motion, and that's what drives bone density. So you got to have your vitamin D, you got to have your minerals, but then you've got to have a stimulus that causes a little bit of flexing of the bones, and that's what makes your jaw bone itself stronger and even the teeth themselves. So piezoelectricity is. Try it again. So piezoelectricity is fundamental to bone strength and bone health, and we just don't think about it that way. But that's why that strength training, even if you're not doing high impact, drives bone density. And funny enough, bone density, if you have a lot of bone density, it's a really good sign you don't have insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. It's very foundational. It's why you go into an upgrade labs. There's a whole body vibration plate where we're just trying to get some stimulation in there in those bones. But you can't hold whole body vibrate your jaw. So the jaws are size is a very effective, very affordable and clinically studied way to do this, which is why I wanted to have you on. And it's kind of a high bar. But even did the study, which is Cohen.
Brandon
Yeah. No, it's definitely the biohacking tool of the century, if you ask me. And from the massive amounts of saliva you produce, which we've been robbed because of our processed diet, to the cranial stimulation, even down to as far as aspiration pneumonia has became a big deal. It used to be 80 plus had aspiration pneumonia, but now they're seeing it closer to in your 50s. And that's just weak swallowing muscles and weak jaw. So when you're back, your stomach acids are coming up and causing stuff like throat cancer. And stuff like that.
Dave Asprey
Wow.
Brandon
So to be able to strengthen your swallowing muscles and keep stuff down, it's like. And then when you mix the saliva in with it, it's like, you know, maybe the processed diet garbage, but drinking a soda to wash it down is not the same as producing a bunch of saliva with the jaws or size, then eating whatever you usually eat. I believe it makes it easy to digest the more saliva.
Dave Asprey
Well, if you're stimulating saliva flow, saliva is well documented to have amylase and other enzymes that start the digestion process. So if you just make that flow healthier than when you eat, you'll make more spit, which is a good thing.
Brandon
Yeah. 100 saliva is. Is a lot more important than people. You know, they think, oh, this thing makes me drool a lot. Well, it's like, honestly, juul is like nature's mouthwash. It's a. It's almost like a natural antibiotic.
Dave Asprey
I've never drooled on someone else when I'm using my jaws or size.
Brandon
Yeah.
Dave Asprey
Am I doing it wrong?
Brandon
No, no. If you just keep your head back a little bit and swallow, I guess is the best way to put it.
Dave Asprey
I'm just kidding. But it doesn't, it doesn't make me drool in a. In a, you know, like a ball gag would. I mean, you would know.
Brandon
No, it definitely.
Dave Asprey
One of us is in trouble for that comment. I don't know. Here's a question for you. Is it more important to train your tricep or your jaw?
Brandon
I'm going to have to say the jaw is the. Is the most important in the body to train. You know, strength starts in the jaw.
Dave Asprey
I actually think you're right. And not that you shouldn't train all your muscles, but this is way more foundational than people recognize.
Brandon
Dave. It's the one thing you can't cover up, you know, unless you're still wearing a mask, which I hope you're not.
Dave Asprey
Well, it could be a sign of mental illness.
Brandon
Well, it's about, you know, if you have a six pack, keep a straight face. You don't. You can cover it with a shirt. But you really want to create your money maker, Right. Whether you're in, you're an actor, an actress.
Dave Asprey
It does my money maker too.
Brandon
You're in. If you're any. This is your weapon and your tool. If you're, you know, in any kind of TV or any kind of promoting of stuff, promoting your own self, your own brand.
Dave Asprey
Maybe you're just trying to date, you know.
Brandon
Date. Yeah. Promoting your Own self. Like you really want to have a confident, symmetrical face. You know, the side to side diet, people flavor one side, they create the imbalance. TMJ's out of whack, body's out of whack, facial structures out of whack. And then everybody's got, you know, not everybody. A lot of people struggle with dry mouth and with lack of saliva. So this is gonna produce blood flow, circulation, stimulate the fascia, lift the face, contour the cheeks, and then the key on top, my favorite kicker that I recently found out is just the extra saliva. It's so, it's so good for your oral health. And if you can start with good oral health leads to good gut health, and then everything else follows. Battle health leads to bad gut health. Yeah, everything else follows.
Dave Asprey
It's completely true. And there's some anthropology that has stood out to me since even my very first book was called the Better Baby Book. And it was basically how to have a kid without autism. Because I had it didn't want to pass it down to the kids. So what are all the environmental factors you can do? So I went really deep on jaw structure and the effect of diet on jaw structure. And over time, as soon as we introduce soft foods and particularly grains that are not really good for us for other reasons besides just chewing. And what you get is you get. The upper palate shrinks and then the airway shrinks and the teeth are all crowded and there's not room for the lower trauma, so you have to cram it back. And this is definitely what happened with me. And if I'd had the opportunity when I was young to just properly exercise my facial muscles, my upper palate would have probably expanded the right way. So I think this might be even more important for kids. And like I said, you don't have clinical trials, but there's, you know, kids should also be doing some push ups and running around outside. And this is just a natural form of exercise, right?
Brandon
100%. Dave. We have so many, so much feedback from customers about it helps their kids with their attention. You know, kids that are fidgeting and they have this oral fixation, they're all over the place. If they can just align the jaw, bite into it and just sort of relax them and releases. It just helps, you know, it helps them focus. There's a lot of focus involved with it.
Dave Asprey
And the fact that it controls posture is a good thing because if you have like that tech neck and you're forward all the time, just showing your body, here's what's going on by making the jaw do its job, it really does change how you sit. That's. There's a mechanism for that. So that, that's real science.
Brandon
Yeah, the head, neck and jaw placement. And especially if you have a desk job, you know, if you're at the computer or you're not too active, it's like this is a physical activity that you could do Even if you're a couch potato and you sit and watch TV and play video games because you eat a lot, your jaw's still strong. So you can sit there and feel exerted in exertion watching Netflix.
Dave Asprey
I guess the one guy maybe we're glad hasn't used the trouser size is Mike Tyson. Because you know, if he'd have done the trouser size, man, that, that ear would have come all the way off. Right?
Brandon
Yeah, good old Mike Tyson. He, I actually believe he chews on a piece of leather. I thought I heard somewhere to strengthen his jaw.
Dave Asprey
Wouldn't surprise me. I, I was on stage with them once in, in Hong Kong and he's actually really funny and very self aware. Like he's an impressive human being. Yeah, I mean there's all the stereotypes and whatever, but I, I was blown away.
Brandon
So, yeah, he's awesome.
Dave Asprey
You can always make the jokes, but just respect.
Brandon
I wish someday we, hopefully we can get him on the team. I'm not sure. Maybe he already jaws or sizes could be. There's definitely a lot of closet job exercisers out there because they see the benefits whether they're a full contact athlete. They don't necessarily want to tell their secrets if it makes them a little bit better, you know. Oh yeah, everybody wants to be that 1% stronger and we train especially at that caliber. Everything else and it's like, wait a sec, I can increase my jaw strength by 400 with this. Is this going to make me a better full contact athlete?
Dave Asprey
Yeah, for full contact, yeah. But I think the real gift for this is something more like racket sports, like tennis. Like if you're a tennis pro and you can increase your proprioception by half a percent so that your body does a better job of knowing where your racket is in space, even by just, you know, 1cm changes everything. So this is about precision movements. I would see dancers and like racket athletes and. Yeah, things like that. That would be really important.
Brandon
Yeah, Dave, it's really crazy. I want to do some more studies, studies to see how it sharpens. You know, we've always seen athletes chew Gum? Yeah, because they can see the firing of the nervous system. They can see it sharpen some. Whether it's Jordan chewing a couple pieces of gum or, you know, Mayweather chewing gum that athletes can clearly see the sharpening of it. But this is like 10 times that, you know, and it's not something you're always going to do during the sport, but it's something you can do to train for the sport. And then, you know, we're about to launch a mastic gum too. That's a chickely base with minimal ingredients. And so that's something you can use throughout the day or during sports. You just chew the gum. It's got the good resistance. It doesn't pull on the molars or teeth.
Dave Asprey
Mastic is interesting. It actually treats H. Pylori and ulcers. And it's the original gum that we would chew for oral health before they, they come out with all this weird gum base that's plastic. So you do not want to chew most gum that's out there. It's kind of gross. I wouldn't touch it.
Brandon
But yeah, it's so scary. And, and, and to see that we can make a formula that's almost out, then that's actually good for you.
Dave Asprey
Oh, that's cool.
Brandon
It's. It's because I, I just feel like, you know, the aspartame and all the artificial flavors is so bad for you. And. Yeah, especially if you're chewing a pack a day, which a lot of people, you know, they do. If they're striving for excellence, they think that's the only answer.
Dave Asprey
Yeah, that stuff's addictive to you. NutraSweet. Like, you start craving Diet Coke and all that. It's just, it's something that you pull off the market.
Brandon
Yeah, it's definitely. It's crazy to you because people do find this almost a little bit addictive too, especially for their first few sets. It's like it's the one product that you can try or not. There's a lot of products you can try and see that works right away. But everybody's eyes, it's the aha moment when they're like.
Dave Asprey
One of the things I've seen a lot in the world is over training. It's one of the reasons Upgrade Labs is out there as a facility is 80% of our tech is recovery tech and 20% is stimulation. And you've already tested over training on yourself to say, like, what's going to happen is going to cause harm. But there's also the Amount of resistance. And in the clinical study for Jaws or size, you used between 20 and 40 pounds of resistance for jaw training. Why those numbers?
Brandon
We have four levels that the level one small starts at about £10. You can put a little bit less force into it, but you don't want to over bite. You know, you want to do a smooth range of motion and then you just increase whether you want high reps to slim tone, create a lean type muscle. And then just like any kind of building bodybuilding, you add weight and decrease reps to add bulk and mass. So someone who wants a wider jaw, a thicker neck would use a 40 pounder, you know, but it's, you don't own, you don't build up to it. You know, it's a, it's a full weight set. So you do your warm ups, you do your cooldowns, and then you do a couple of the heavy sets in between.
Dave Asprey
So I'm really lazy. How much time are we talking about here?
Brandon
I mean it just, just, just the five minutes a day, you know, as your blender's shooting up your, it's not.
Dave Asprey
A big time thing. And okay, that's good. And I say I'm lazy, but I'm not really lazy. I just want to be efficient. And you can do this in the infrared sauna. Like I do that sometimes in my sunlight and I'm just sit down there and do the jaws or size.
Brandon
That's the thing, it makes you feel less lazy because whatever you're doing, doing, you're convincing your body you're eating, you're intaking zero calories, you're producing blood flow, you're creating a more attractive, healthier face. So if you're just watching Netflix and chilling for two hours, well, wait a sec, if you can do an hour facial exercise during that, I mean I feel like just the exertion, the saliva, the blood flow and the beauty aspect of it, it's a no brainer.
Dave Asprey
I actually leave my jaws or size in my infrared sauna a lot of the time.
Brandon
Yeah.
Dave Asprey
And that way if it's just there and I'm going to be sitting there for 45 minutes probably anyway, so you might as well spend five minutes doing it. It's, it's not like it takes more.
Brandon
Time, you know, I've also ran some tests on myself with my Apple watch and it's like I can sit there, maintain my heart rate. I'd say 120, it's hot. Boom. I throw in a set for a couple, for a minute, my heart rate Will. Will spike, you know, 14 beats or so a minute. 14 to 20 more beats a minute.
Dave Asprey
So from exercising your job?
Brandon
Yeah, just sitting there. So we don't have the exact numbers dialed in, but we're trying to decipher how many negative calories can you actually get from having this calorie free snack.
Dave Asprey
That's cool. You did some satisfaction score stuff that was kind of interesting. What percentage of people said that they thought they looked more attractive and they.
Brandon
It all came in right at that. 8 to 9 out of 10, 80 to 90% cool. I mean the main kicker I thought on that one is I want to run more studies to show. It's just that how it helps people with the dysfunction. Millions of people have a dysfunction in their jaw, imbalance in their TMJ and then it leads to stuff like from the jaw sitting back, you know, less saliva production because your saliva glands activate as you get closer to that. Teeth. To teeth.
So that's, you know, that's something hopefully we can partner up and work with your labs on is just showing how this can be so beneficial for TMJ health.
Dave Asprey
I wonder if we probably could do some whole body comp correlations or something because we have really good gear at great labs for that.
Brandon
Yeah. Even the jaws are pro. This is something when you add it to like your deadlift or your shrugs or any kind of workout really.
Dave Asprey
Do you do it during the deadlift?
Brandon
Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
Dave Asprey
That's interesting. Especially the pro does that max lift.
Brandon
Oh yeah. I mean we got to do a little more studies to see. But there is studies showing how like just putting a mouthpiece in there is.
Dave Asprey
Oakley used to make one.
Brandon
Yeah, but this is like you bite into it and you can buy it further into it. You can buy almost the teeth to teeth as you compress.
Dave Asprey
Oh well. So it's kind of like when you're compressing your core, you're also compressing your jaw so you can really get that.
Brandon
Power in full exertion. Alignment explosion.
Dave Asprey
Wow.
Brandon
It's like, you know, you see people in the gym, they're always moving their face, you know, like.
Doing their set. Well, it's like wait a sec. If you can align.
Dave Asprey
Oh yeah. If your jaws aligned when you do.
Brandon
It it just, you know, it helps the whole nervous system and muscles fire properly.
Dave Asprey
There's something else that intrigues me greatly. We have these Shaolin monks and they look scrawny but they're doing one finger push ups and they're stronger than some of these guys who are just a Wall of muscle. So we like to think that large muscles equals power, like the kind of Peter Attia fetish sort of thing. But if you actually measure power versus just mass, you realize that muscle power is a better indicator for how strong you are and for how long you're likely to live. And you need enough mass so you don't lose mass over time. But if you maintain strength or improve it and lose mass, it's not a bad thing. It actually means that you have a more efficient nervous system and the neuromuscular connection is stronger. And what you don't want to do is be like a big wall of muscle with no neurological strength backing it up. Up. Yeah, right. And this is why you see. Oh, God, what's the guy's name? The guy on YouTube who goes in and spoofs people at the gym. You know what I'm talking about?
Brandon
The janitor guy. Yeah. I just forgot his bill.
Dave Asprey
Yeah, it's hilarious. He's out there just absolutely dominating. So what's. We can't say muscle mass is the most important. You know, do zone two cardio for 17 hours a week and exercise every day and over train because it doesn't work. But what you're pointing out with jaws are size, is that you're getting neuromuscular strength because the jaw is so tied into the nervous system. Which is why you're saying if people are doing their deadlift and they bite down on the jaws are size, they're getting the alignment right there. That alignment creates neurological strength and the neuromuscular connection. So it's cleaner because you don't have a crooked jaw. That's interesting. I want to see some more studies on that. I see the mechanism, though. That's cool.
Brandon
No, for sure, we got to put some studies together because there's just. It's so simple. It hurts, it. It works. I mean, it's backed with a money back guarantee if for some reason you don't like it. And it. The results are, in my mind, unmatched when it comes to anything that you want to do for your face. There's so much cosmetic surgeries out there, but the root cause is bone, bone density, structure, and then muscle connective tissues, your fascia. It's not a topical thing. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. It's internal ocean. You want to build it from inside out, and that creates the healthy face.
Dave Asprey
What it comes down to is it takes five minutes, it has broad systemic effects, and you can do it while you're doing something else. So the net effort to do it is low, the cost is low and you can use Dave15@jowsercise.com to save some extra. But small investment of time, small investment of effort and it makes you look better, makes you feel better, it makes your blood flow better, increases drop function. There's all kinds of things. So in my world everything has a return on investment. I'm investing time, energy, suffering and money. And this one absolutely makes the cut. So yes sir, congrats on making something cool that you needed because you had your own facial injuries. And sometimes necessity is the mother of invention and I think that's what happened here.
Brandon
Yes sir, brought it to fruition. And a strong body starts in the jaw. So get that jaw strong, get the oral health right. Follow with some circulation to the brain for stimulation cranial activation. Nice. It's a well rounded workout for your face, head as a whole.
Dave Asprey
Thanks for coming out to Austin and being on the show guys. Jaws are size J A W Z R size and use code DAVE15 and this is one of those things. It's kind of a no brainer. It's not expensive and it works and it works a lot for a little effort and that's something that gets my attention and that's why Brandon's on the show today. If you enjoyed the episode, you know what to do. Leave some reviews and go out there and exercise your jaw. You might like what happens. See you next time on the Human Upgrade Podcast.
