D
All right.
A
Yo, I don't have a single piece of St. John merch, and you come in with an hoodie every day.
D
I mean, you know, that's just in the box that I forgot I had.
A
You see I laced Corey with the emotional oranges merch.
D
I'll be seeing that on the gram. A few. A few people be having that on.
A
I'm like, okay, you got a pack?
D
I got a pack.
B
Oh, that's your indicator of hotness?
D
Yeah.
A
Did you put a money bag under it?
D
Of course.
A
Okay.
D
Just there.
B
I've seen it on the gram.
D
You know when certain people have this on you, like, oh, okay, I see his reach. I see Rory's reach.
A
That's what Maul does in the meetings. No presentation, no number. Yo, that shit crazy on the gram right now.
D
That shit moving.
E
That's all the timeline's talking about.
D
It's moving. What you want me to do?
A
So we're looking for $250 million.
B
Okay.
A
Why?
B
Well, how many.
A
You've seen the gram.
B
How many different accounts will this be spread across? And how many numbers will. I know India. Love a post. Like, you could get a pull of. Love a post from her.
D
That's a fact.
A
Who else I could talk to? Chubbs? He might do me a favor.
D
You know what I'm saying? Got a few favors out more.
B
You was up early this morning. I seen you. I seen you on, like, records, hitting the, like, button mad hard on a chick that had just posted something 40 minutes ago at 8am she didn't even know if she should post it. She was like, oh, it's not normally when I get my traffic, but there you were.
A
That was her supporting, you know what I'm saying?
B
Before she posted, she was like, should I wait till noon? Louisiana's. Not even up yet. But there was more to hit.
E
The.
A
Like, you got to let them know,
D
like, this is this little breakfast.
B
Like.
A
Yeah, I respect the first shift.
B
Yeah.
D
It's a breakfast.
A
Like, you got to be the first thing she sees when she wakes up.
D
She make her feel good, you know, good for the mental health people. Hitting the like button for leaving a comment.
E
Did you write first, like, underneath it?
D
No, never.
A
Okay.
B
Oh, shit.
A
First. First money bag.
B
Wait, before we continue with this, because I do want to continue with this. I had something I was getting to do. Y' all hear that?
A
Sounds like some laughter in the kitchen.
D
Sounds like the price going up.
B
All right. But ignore the kitchen. I'm talking about just in this room. Do y' all hear that?
D
The price going up? Yeah.
B
No, they didn't accept the low price.
D
It's still going up.
B
We dictate our value.
D
Still going up.
B
No, no, no.
A
Honestly, we just did an ad.
B
Silence. Right? Yeah. Why they never say nothing when Brandy start talking back? I'm listening. I'm putting my ear into this. The headphones extra hard. I don't. I don't hear pee.
D
Park's got you all the way up.
B
Where is mic on? Maybe my headphones is out.
D
I heard.
B
I heard so much friction over the past few weeks. But then, you know who popped up to console me and make me feel better? The fucking queen herself.
A
Brand.
D
Brand.
B
Brand, Brand. And I don't hear a fucking peep.
D
Yeah, Rory, you gotta. You gotta show love when it. When it's. When it's reciprocated. You gotta be like, I acknowledge it.
A
Just like, I was looking out in the beginning. I'm looking out now. My silence. Don't be that thirsty, dude. That's excited off the comment. Just let it rock. Like, that's regular.
D
I see what Rory trying to do.
A
Yeah. Don't bring it up, man.
D
Don't blow it.
A
This like you've been here before.
D
He trying to say, act like you've been here before.
B
When I liked him a lot.
A
You've scored a touchdown.
B
Before I get excited off the comment back.
D
You like that? You like when they comment back?
B
Yeah, y. When you like them.
D
See, See, that's why in the morning, I. I was on Shorty's post early because I know she would like that. It would brighten her day. Send the money bags. You know what I'm saying?
A
So consider and see, this is why I don't like Joe. Because you see my strategy working now. Joe got a whole post and a narrative and a running brand Content series because of what I started on his live.
D
You know what I'm saying?
A
I saw the bigger picture.
B
She didn't run with the narratives.
D
She didn't care about the narratives.
A
She went on.
D
I like when they did a whole
A
interview about the narrative.
D
Did she.
A
She said, I'm not dating Joe?
B
She did not.
A
Are you Ray J's friend?
B
No. I don't even know what are you talking about.
D
See, now he's a friend.
A
Setting him up again to win.
B
Now back to mall, mall, mall. When I saw you up so early, I assumed you were excited because this was our last episode.
D
Okay.
B
And then I opened the Twitter. The Twitter. That's how you know I'm getting old.
D
That's all right.
B
Don't worry. I opened the Twitter. I know what you mean.
D
I know what you mean.
B
Oh, my God. And I saw fans. And Rory said he saw some of these, too. I saw a fan saying, oh, man, I know it's gonna be a five hour episode tomorrow. I know y' all gonna really give it to. I know y' all gonna call in everybody that ever called in. I know you guys are gonna hit all the topics that one day you promised us you would hit. And I was home reading like, nope, nah, we're not doing any of that.
D
That's not how this is gonna work.
B
I don't give 2F.
A
Somebody. Somebody tweeted me. No excuses. Kanye tweeted his whole contract. I said I didn't read a word.
B
Oh, please. I didn't even send it to my attorney. I let that sit right on the timeline. Hey, my eyes saw enough that I needed to see from that. I stopped reading after minute three.
D
Yeah, yeah, it was. It was bad.
B
So, yeah, listen, I'm judging you niggas that try to get fly on your last day of school. If you didn't bag her by now, she's not present.
A
If you went. If you went to the last day of school, you was a fucking loser.
D
You only went to clean out your locker, shit like that.
B
Nah, some of them clean out your
A
locker three days before that. That's.
D
That's true.
E
You just left your shit in your locker.
A
Words.
B
Whatever you didn't want.
D
For sure.
B
Word. And they knew it was mine. Touch the locker. Touch the locker. Sitting there all summer. So. Yeah, no, this is not like the last day of school.
D
Yeah, no, and this isn't. This isn't the last episode.
E
Nah, this is cleared up.
B
All here clear. Cleared up for them all.
A
We're going to summer school.
B
Hey, Spotify.
D
All right.
B
All right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right. Hell of a run. It was the guys. We did it.
E
We did it.
B
We made it to the last episode of this.
A
Filled a contract, huh? We fulfilled a contract.
B
Word. We might even be getting extra. I keep seeing Spotify trolling like, we ain't there no more. Nah, niggas, one more generation.
F
Like, I should be dressing different. Like I should be less aggressive and pessimistic. Like I should be way more nervous and less dismissive. Like I should be on my best behavior and not talk my shit and do a major. Like the niggas who paid away for us. Like, I didn't study the game to the letter and understand that I'm not doing it the same and I'm doing it better. Like, I didn't make that clearer this year. Like, I should feel, hell, I don't know, guilty for saying that. They should put a couple more mirrors in here so I can stare at myself. These are usually just some thoughts that I would share with myself, but I thought it. It's worth it to share them with someone else other than Paris for once. I text her from time to time. She a mom now. I guess sometimes life.
B
Hey, when that happens, you fall back, you text her, and now she's a whole mom.
A
Yeah, I think that's always unfortunate.
D
It happens.
B
And she want to be a good mom, too.
D
Like, yes, hopefully.
B
Yeah. She want to focus. Yeah. I mean, but I mean, it's.
A
And then he starts texting, like, what? Her kids interests are bad.
B
Bad. Moms have the fire, though.
A
Yeah.
B
I'm off.
D
No, no, you're not. You're not.
B
Yo, when I leave, hit your kid, man. I'm getting out of here. Come on. Text Reina.

D

F
What you think I'm too busy? That's why you leave a message. Born a perfectionist. Guess that makes me a business.
B
I knew he was the man when he told N to leave him a message.
F
Hey, B. I got your cd. You get an E for effort? I piece letters together and get to talking Reckless chains like credentials, you know? You see the necklace? My life's a complete checklist. F
Wonder what's next for me. Longevity on a check for me. Probably forever if I stay in my zone. I speak on this generation but can't change it alone. I heard a little lil homie talking reckless and vibe. That's quite a platform you chose. You should have kept it inside.
B
Oh, you tried. That's quite a platform you chose. This is quite president.
D
Like
E
the bar on two birds of one. So talking about the soap bar thinning out. But look at Dennis now, looking hilarious.
A
Look at him, though.
E
Look at him.
A
Does that look like a full bar soap body wash?
B
Don't tell me about the platform I chose.
D
About the platform we chose.
F
For the last time, I'm managing.
A
Off that. And I don't like how gleefully he said it.
B
No, no, no, no, no. Listen, just in case y' all had us up out there, man. Hey, Spotify podcasters, have fun with your unions. Hey, have fun trying to kick Rogan out the building. You bitch. I'm chucking have lo cuz we are the champions. Okay, I'm done. For real now.
A
Neo button.
E
Letting that breathe, huh?
A
Chick tweeted. Men be like, wow, your energy is amazing. And then rob you of it.
D
That's some funny, right?
B
That's some funny. Why do chicks let us rob them of their energy, though? Like, it's yours protected. Stop falling for the hookah and the drink.
A
Keep your left up.
B
That mint coconut combo does it every time. I'll think of you. Well, thank you, guys. We better have something to start with after all these songs finish.
E
Don't step on Whitney like that.
A
It really put my place with the Janet Jackson tape.
B
To the fans.
A
No, we're gonna be back to the fan.
B
To the fans that were there from day one.
E
To all the other DSPs.
B
You guys change DSPs for us all right now. To the guys that believed in us from the very start, To the guys that are constantly hitting us, saying, you know what, guys, we're gonna go where you guys go.
E
And girls,
B
We love you. Thank you. Thank you, guys. All of you. You in the kitchen rim. Thank you, screen man. Thank you. Say, Father Harrison, first. I love you guys.
D
Yo, what's wrong with you?
B
You all right?
D
There's something really wrong with you. Like, seriously.
B
All over the world.
A
Addie Joe back.
B
No, no. Lord, no. Addie. Addie Joe. Like, it wasn't Addie us. I never got off the wave.
D
Yeah.
B
I hate when.
A
Wait, Joe was the only one that got cleaned. The way that I'm still at it.
B
You found a new connect?
A
A crazy one. 10 a pill for the 30s.
B
I hate dudes that don't share the connect. Oh, my God. Like, when I had to connect. Oh, I couldn't get Rory off my line, fam. I'll leave it in the flower pot, man. Just get the fuck off of my flower.
D
Leave me alone, you fucking druggie.
B
Get help. Go get help.
D
You gotta leave a brochure next to work. Like, yo. Hey, man, you should take this brochure.
B
But you got to think about it.
A
When you're on Adderall and run out of Adderall, don't you think you'll be pretty pushy about getting.
D
Getting more Adderall? Yeah, for sure. That's how it goes.
A
You can't be searching for Adderall on Adderall. No, because you'll find it.
B
That's why this is funny.
A
Because you will focus and find those pills.
B
My Adderall connect was a nigga that needed the Adderall and he took it off.
A
That's everyone's connect.
B
Exactly.
A
He was subscribed by a million dollars doctor.
B
He should have been listening to the doctor's instructions. He shouldn't have been trying to make a quick buck with me, like. And I guess eventually he figured that out.
D
He stopped with you.
B
Yeah. I hope he's good. Yeah, I hope he's good. Man, I can't believe Rory did that. Didn't tell me. I got a lot done when I was on Adderall. I vacuumed every carpet, every morsel of the carpet. I watched. I washed the dishes with the mop. I washed the floor with the dish. Dish sponge. Anyway. All right, let me hit these drops for real, man.
E
This park, this park, this park. This park, this park.
B
What's that? Microphone check. One, two. What is this? It's your guys, man. It's us. It's us.
D
We're here.
B
Gang, gang, gang. We're here twice a week, two years in a row. Some of you guys feel like family to us. Am I taking. Am I taking it there with it?
D
Yeah.
B
This is 382. Welcome to episode 382 of the JOE Button Podcast. He Is I, and I am him. And I'm here with a few of my nearest and dearest brother. Mall is here.
D
I'm here.
B
Parks is here. You made it to the end.
D
Mall, I'm here, man.
B
You made it to the end.
D
Come on, man. I'm here.
B
Parks, I was hoping would since he engineers this thing, but you.
D
He's right upstairs. He was right upstairs.
B
You made it through.
D
I'm here, man.
A
It's at his house.
D
Yeah, but sometimes, you know, people don't answer the door.
A
There's been a few times Parks has
B
been here and hasn't answered the door. Yeah, yeah, my bad.
A
I was in the shower for four hours.
B
Yeah. Rory is here. Good to see Rory here. Yeah, Erickson.
A
Been here since 15.
B
I'm on Erickson. But now Erickson is here. Head of. Head of Podparasi. Savon. Cheetah was here. Corey is here. Special occasion. We have brother Schwartzman here and Keebler. Huh? Both of them are here with us. And REM Is in better spirits after that prenup conversation from last week. Rem, Rem, glad you could join. Hey, glad you guys hashed it out.
E
Yeah, she beat all the aggression out on me. So
D
Grim was glowing today. I seen a nice little glow on her. Well, okay, I know what that means.
B
He iced her out.
D
Nice little argument.
B
He iced her out, huh? Took her right to Jared.
D
Yeah, you know what I mean?
A
You Michael Korster.
B
Hey, after that last part, Parks went upstairs, and REM Was like anything with a red marker. I'm taking with me. Gentlemen, how y' all doing?
A
I don't. I don't really like this Ian Keeb thing. It's very corporate to me, because if I go back to our Spotify contract, the only time we ever saw them want to participate in the podcast, it was for the Pusha T episode and for the Chance the Rapper. So all of a sudden, we're like, hey, everyone from Spotify that wants to come to our podcast, why y' all want to come on the last day? I've never celebrate properly.
E
Y' all ain't bring no champagne. I'm still. I'm still on that.
B
Yeah, these.
A
Yo, these. These corporate execs, we got to get some champ only show up when they want to.
E
Yeah, a little pink champagne, little champ things out a little bit.
B
Yeah.
A
Can you buy me a watch?
E
You going, Michael K. A used Rolex, if you could.
A
A fossil, please.
B
A few of these companies that we're talking to, they was like, oh, man. Just for good sport, we're going to throw in some watches. I was like, huh? I just won this fossil. What a dick. I mean, last time we tried it, the budget increased. It started getting funny. That's like when you got. You see them all.
D
I'm laughing.
B
No, that's like a little joke. No, that's your little joke. No, listen, that's like when you. When you got a plan to go to the club, like, the hot spot, like, live or whatever the hot spot is. Is. And you know you and your two mans is good.
D
Yeah.
B
Like, y' all good. But then a few of your other mans that you truly love somehow find already or somehow find out about the plan, and now they just tag it along now.
A
But you honest with them. You like, yo, I don't know.
B
No, no, no.
D
I don't be honest.
B
I'm not.
D
I walk in when they be like,
B
yo, yo, behind me.
D
I keep walking, fam. You didn't come here with me. Like, don't yell me when you see me outside.
A
We drove in the same car, yo.
D
Nah, nah, fam. They see it. 3.
B
I didn't know where you and it's mad places on 28th street that you could have been headed. I didn't know.
D
Oh, those are some crazy.
A
I asked you if these shoes were okay to get in.
B
Hey, these dudes find out about where their friendship stands with me when that happens.
D
Yeah, that's how they'll call me.
B
I'll turn around and look at them, too. The security be like, joe, how about these two? I turn right around like dark winged duck. No, you know what's funny? No, they're not.
D
They turn around and start acting like the security. Like, yo, well, he got on
B
like one man.
D
Got on.
A
No fittings.
D
Don't let him in.
B
Yeah, that is hilarious. I could do a whole podcast on. On my cousin being the doorman at New York City clubs.
D
He saved me a lot of nights.
B
He did.
A
Yeah.
B
Got me in trouble a lot of nights. Calling my phone killers. Yo, this your cousin over here not letting us in? Nah, he's cool, man. Yeah, he ain't even like, he's got a job to do. Chill out.
D
Yeah, relax.
B
I told him I hear this whole nice, cool, bro, don't even worry about it.
D
And out of club in the middle of Manhattan.
A
It's happened.
B
You can't air out no club that Michael Paul is.
G
No.
D
Yeah, it's not even that type of spot.
A
Ask Shine.
B
That's. That's hilarious. Did I ask you how y' all feeling, man?
D
No, but it's okay.
A
Yeah, it's whatever.
B
Give it to me.
D
We're good, man.
B
Give it to me. Babe.
D
Good. This last. Last one for this. This portion of our chapter. This is the last chat. This is the last page of this chapter right here.
B
Tracy chapter.
D
That's all. But, yeah, I'm moving on to a
E
new chapter in life.
B
Chapter.
D
Yes, we are, Parks. We're moving on to another chapter.
E
Chicks love moving on to a new chapter.
D
They move on to new chapters every hour. Nobody reads that fast.
B
Who cried this morning? Come on, give it to me. Give me. Come on. Come on. Get vulnerable with me. It's the last. It's the last episode. The audition should be done. Cry with us.
D
I didn't cry.
E
I didn't cry.
D
I didn't cry. I.
B
Nothing. No vulnerability this morning.
E
Turn music on. Too busy to cry.
A
Some relief.
D
Yeah, Turn some music on.
A
And made it.
D
Made a good. Made a good smoothie. And that was it. Regular routine.
B
All right, I'll. I'll share. I'll get mushy. Talk about the tears. I didn't cry.
D
And if you cry in the shower, it doesn't count, fellas, because you can't see your teeth.
E
No can see. Or in the rain.
B
I don't count it neither. When you.
E
When you.
B
When you do the hard breath that stops the cry,
D
that's when you tapping into some shit that's been buried.
B
That's that.
D
Shit that's been buried. Trying to jump out this morning.
B
I'm thinking about the last episode. I felt a little something. All right, all right. We here now. No, listen, listen. That's been well established. That's what all the blogs are saying about me. Brandy doesn't believe it.
D
No, she doesn't. She's through that.
A
She's a real one.
B
How many pages you think she wrote about me in that journal already?
D
How many pages? I don't think she's wrote.
A
Probably zero.
B
Yeah, I need. I needed her to make a song called Joe's Interlude. Now she stopped that, so I need my own interlude. Like Bria.
D
She just wrote like five words.
A
Probably be Joey's interlude.
D
She said, so there's this guy. And then that was it. She never got back to it.
B
Yeah, Left me out.
D
All the allegations started right after that. She's like, oh, let me stop this face.
A
Right?
B
But anyway, I'm.
A
I'm a pet owner.
B
Sorry. You think all these episodes. I don't hear your little side comments. Parts. I do want to listen back. I do. Listen, when I was an artist.
E
Oh, here we go.
D
Here we go.
B
The journey.
D
Here we go.
B
The journey show way back when, back in, you know, the artist days.
E
Three years ago.
D
Back in my hay. You love talking about back in the hay.
B
Yeah, Please, please.
D
Back in my hay.
E
I could have never pictured this.
D
I would have never seen this coming.
B
Oh, my God. Okay. Damn. I only have this remix. This ain't the one, is it?
D
Any record that stops like that is a hit.
E
Yeah. Give me a little record crackle.
B
Hey. All right. Come on. No bets in. In my artist days, right. For all of the blackballing, for all of the frustration in dealing with record executives or attempting to deal with them, but at my class, you probably couldn't get in front of them. Really? Yeah. Just for all of the frustration and self doubt and all of the shit that comes along with being an actual artist. Excuse me. The one day that was fulfilling each year or the one day where you just really sat back and got whole with your, your journey and creating that project, but letting that, releasing that project to the world and it no longer being yours.
D
Yeah.
B
And seeing what it does to fans. Right. So release day was always the day where I made that very pure connection with fans, like in exchanging of the art.
D
Right. Understand?
B
And in that moment, it made all else tolerable. Right.
E
Yeah.
B
All of the things that maybe caused some frustration or you know, some just had your mind in a bad place. Release day always alleviated all of that for me. And I cried every. Release day. Right. Today is sort of like that for me. Even though there's. There'll be no crying were being released. But today was the day, you know, as we got closer to the day, to see the fans.
D
Yeah.
B
And what they were saying and what they were feeling, it was just real pure.
D
Yeah.
B
It was like, it was like that point where you realize that they've kind of understood some of the. You've been screaming about for the past two years, three years, however long I've been screaming about. About it. Yeah. That's. That's the extent of my mushiness. That's. That's all.
D
I understand what you mean.
B
It's.
D
It's because of, you know, our, our followers and our supporters. They, they, they, they grow with us, you know, I mean, some of them have been following us and supporting us since forever. Some of them just started when we came to Spotify two years ago. But it's like a, it's like a close knit circle. You know, podcasting, the podcast world, podcast community is a, is a different type of fan base or Support base. I don't like to call them fans, but support base. They. They feel like they're a part of our lives. A lot of them we communicate with on social media weekly. You start to really, like, develop relationships with some of them. Like, I know I DM a few of them, like, all the time. Like, the cool ones, you recognize the ones that are cool, that actually have a lot of positive input. Even when it's critique, it's positive. You know, I mean, and you connect with certain supporters like that, and I think that they just. They grow with it, and it's kind of like watching something that they love and they support grow to what it is and what it's becoming. And they. They actually saw us through the contract, they saw us through the. Through the. Through the term, through the deal, and they just understand what we out here fighting forward, we're out here trying to do. And I think they just relate to that because in their own way, they're doing that, too. And they're in their. Their respective lives. They're fighting for things, and they're trying to do things. Some of them are creators as well, so they understand that. And it's just fun. To me, like, this. This podcasting thing is. Is fun because it really puts you in tune, which is why I, like, when we do the live shows, we actually get to meet them face to face and hear the stories. Some of the stories are heavy, and I'm like, damn. Like, I didn't. You know, you start to realize, like, I didn't think we meant that much to people.
A
Maybe we should be more responsible.
D
Yeah. Like, that's. But that's how you feel sometimes, because you start thinking about people you meet on the road and in different cities, and you like, damn. Like, people really feel like this is a family. So I understand what you say, you know, when you say it's a little emotional because you understand, like, this means a lot. You know, I mean, we have fun doing it, and we're entrenched, entrenched in it. So we don't really understand that. Sometimes we lose sight of that. But this means a lot to people. And so, yeah, it is something to be emotional about.
E
Yeah.
D
Emotions are good.
B
Good.
E
It means a lot to me, too. It's very cathartic.
B
Yeah.
E
Sitting around kicking with y' all and. And the fans every week. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's. It's super. It's therapy, right? It's therapy twice a week, right?
A
Yeah. I think that's probably why they relate to it so much because we do give full transparency to an extent, good or bad, on how we look.
G
Right.
A
Like we went through this whole contract not trying to make us look like these geniuses that know what the we talking about.
B
Right.
A
Until we made the decision vision. Like we're not here to try to make ourselves look better.
D
No.
A
And I think the fans identify with that type of.
D
Absolutely.
A
That's why they feel part of it, because they are part of it. They've been through the entire.
D
A major part of it.
B
Yeah.
A
The biggest part,
B
I was talk telling somebody earlier, boy am I, boy am I thankful for these short term contracts today. Oh, man.
D
Yeah, it's very important.
B
Yeah. Some of y' all have heard me talk about how it took me 16 to 18 years to get out of my pub deal. Took me X amount of years to get from under the Def Jam contract when I signed a bad amalgam digital contract that got purchased by E1. It just always was a hassle not to get out of a bad contract, but to adjust with the times and to remain nimble. Right, right, right. D this two year contract, this flew quick.
D
It is.
A
And two year contracts are almost unheard of to the magnitude of what our listenership is.
B
Right.
A
And the amount of people you're speaking to. Yeah. Two years is not a average thing.
D
Right.
A
That would be like.
B
No, it was one year with an option. Let me be clear. Right. It wasn't two years. Because you're right.
A
The two that we. We did. The two is what I'm saying.
B
Yeah, no, we, we. And I'm proud of you guys, man. I know that you guys like to clam up and not get. Get emotional because we all friends and we're men. But I'm really proud. Listen more when I joke about saying that you're here.
G
Yeah.
B
It's a joke because you've been responsible enough to get here. But I've called Rory and said, listen, I don't know if Maul's showing up every day.
D
I wouldn't do that. I respect y' all too much. I wouldn't do that.
A
Well, this was the early, early days. It wasn't.
D
Oh, yeah. But even then, like, I'm just, I'm just that if I, you know, if I. If I give somebody my word and say I'm gonna do something, I'm doing it.
E
Yeah.
D
I could hate it. I could drag myself there and hate every minute of it, but I'm gonna do it because that's just the type of guy I am. Same and I'm going to honor that. I'm going to be honorable with my friends and my family at all times.
B
Well, thank you, guys. I appreciate you guys. I'm proud of you guys. And we do still have to do a pod today.
D
Absolutely.
B
Oh, yeah. And actually, no, I got more gratitude to give, man. I got. No, that's not true. I got more gratitude. I got more gratitude to give. Everybody knows our position.
D
Yeah. Phone has been ringing for weeks.
B
Yeah, that's not lost on me.
D
Yeah.
B
Ian has not stopped talking since I opened my big mouth on this podcast.
D
Yeah.
A
Poor Ian, man. I can see it in his face.
B
Oh, no. It's exhausting.
D
It appeared in two days.
B
It is exhausting. But everyone knows our position. Everyone knows my position. And I have a good idea of what everyone else's position is. I couldn't have designed this any better.
D
Yeah.
B
Like some part. We always say at the spade table, part of being good is being lucky. Like, you could. You could plan it to the best of your ability, but you need some other things to kind of take part of it.
E
It's part of it.
B
Yeah.
A
Things.
D
I mean, you know what it is, Joe?
A
You can't control.
D
It's part of. Of if you just be a good person and. And. And. And work hard, everything else will work itself out.
E
But they say luck is the combination of opportunity and preparedness or something like that.
D
Yeah.
E
Just do.
D
Just do the work. Be a good person. Everything. All that other. Is noise, man.
G
Right.
D
You know, I mean, all of that is noise. It'll all work itself out. When people know you're a good person and they know that you work hard and you're passionate, all of the noise will. Will settle.
G
Yeah.
E
And you're right.
B
Ready.
E
You're ready, and you're ready to go.
A
Yeah. I think it's kind of been great. How receptive. You know, even the conversations Ian's been having, or any conversations I've just been having with regular listeners or friends of mine or colleagues whatever, of people's reception to what our stance has been on everything. It hasn't been the pushback that I expected from people that are conditioned to be in that system.
B
Right.
A
They've been with it. Even if they're part of that system, they understand it and think they're not. Needs to be some type of a change. It hasn't been met with. All right, let's silence this whole entire thing.
D
No, this can't happen.
A
It's impossible.
B
And I will be honest. Judge me if you want, Call me petty if you Want on our last day here. It's kind of like poetic justice to me. And I'm super proud of the fact that we are leaving this DSP while that building is on fire. Sorry. Yeah, that's how I feel. It is what it is. I'm not upset about it.
E
And there's a reason why we're leaving.
B
I'm happy. I'm. I am so excited about that. Listen back to my common antitrust. The movie example that I always give as a creator. It has to excite you that a single cog. That a single cog can either make entire cruise ships crash or dance in perfect harmony. That's exciting for me.
D
H. It is.
B
It says they can't play with us anymore. Oh, I put my rant voice on. I'm not ranting, though. But they just can't play with us anymore. You come in here, you tell them how you treat it magically. It's unions popping. There's a war going on.
E
Yeah.
D
Yeah, it is.
A
Outside, no man is safe.
B
Inside, much worse. Much worse. Inside, with each other, it's unions. They want Rogan gone. Transphobic. This. They aren't. They. It's political. It's so many entities clashing. Black people. Thank God for that inevitability. We have to know when the fight is about to break out. Yeah, yeah.
D
That's important.
B
Yo, I gotta go, man. Just head to the car.
D
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
B
Everything good? Yeah, just tired.
D
Yeah, sleepy. Ready to go.
B
That's all. I love the fact that it's on fire in there. I love the fact that there's so much other shit going on. Amazon announces. Spotify stock. Come down. Yes, Come down. They all down, but still you come down more than them. Yeah. It's just a lot going on. If you're looking at. If you are looking at. If you're looking at the podcast scene, if you're a podcaster, today is a good. You should feel good today.
D
Yeah. Change is happening.
B
If you understand what's going on out there and you could just see. I'm not going to talk about it now. Do your Googles or see later when it happens. But you should feel good about the opportunities that are arising at places where there may have been none before. Right. I think we got to add right
A
here at this point in the podcast, you can advertise your product.
B
Product.
A
And we can talk about how great it is. And then you can give us a promo code @jbp. Enjoy the rest of the episode.
B
Yeah, man. Like these DSPs. This episode is brought to you by Escalade. No, not the car. You're ignorant.
A
Folks, at this point, we can talk about how great your product is that we've never used.
B
Right here. Right here, you guys. Right here.
D
We'll use it first.
B
Right here. Hey, I'm a soup it up.
A
Honestly, they're the best socks I've ever worn.
E
And I'm not just saying that.
A
It's not just because it's an ad. They sent them to me. Wear them every day.
B
You podcasters is out there letting them just put ads all in your. Y' all taking it back. Oh, man. No,
D
they know not what they do.
B
Listen, listen. Part of this ownership talk that I've been having over the last few. Last few episodes, I was telling Corey on my way over here. It feels good. The opportunity value feels good. Like to wake up and the phone just ring all day. Like it can ring because you're not in bed with one person. Right? And hey, to the people out there that said, Joe, you're fucking burning the bridges. You're screaming at employers. You're ruining opportunities. Let me tell you, the whole field hates Spotify like I do.
D
Yeah, they actually. I don't know why y' all went there in the first place.
B
The niggas told me not to go there.
E
That's true.
B
They told me that's true. But it feels good out there. That's the bottom line. As a podcaster, it should feel good. Yeah, it feels good for us out there. And thank you. I just couldn't. I couldn't be any more filled with gratitude for our fans. I can't go any further. I gotta thank Cash app as well.
A
And Cash Doll.
B
What?
A
Cash do exist.
D
Exist. She's just here with us.
B
She didn't sign with us. Traffic Bookings.
A
Traffic. Traffic Bookings.
D
That's a dope name.
B
Oh, wait, tell the people what Traffic Bookings is that. That was off mic.
A
That's our ad.
G
Oh, yeah.
B
No, it's not. That's not our ad. That's our ad.
E
Mal's paying us.
B
Mall Mal.
A
Brought to you by.
B
For the listeners out there, shout out to our first and last time listeners as well.
A
If you want a guest on your podcast that's not going to make it
D
Traffic Bookings it is.
B
Mal is the CEO, CFO and COO of Traffic Bookings. That's his Roc Nation sports agency. Right? Like he. He will book an artist to be somewhere, but they might not be there. No, they might be stuck in traffic. But if they show, you might get the traffic. Never know if traffic is good or bad over a traffic point, traffic artist is gonna show up. You definitely tried to sign Cash doll and she signed with party in front of your face. The money bags meant nothing. That's when you came up with the money bag. Actually, actually he's like, oh, that'll never happen again. And you said again? That'll never happen again.
A
Well, you never know if you're gonna gain or again.
D
No, Rory, I never said that. I've never pronounced again like that in my life again.
B
And you sold college dropouts masters.
A
That's crazy.
D
Why are you putting that on me? Why?
B
Because it was you.
D
It was me
B
so St. John could get popped him. Look at the trade off. That is a trade off.
A
You guys aren't doing anything with these.
B
I'm thinking, I'm thinking Cash app because they enable me. They.
A
Yeah, wait, if this is an ad, I need to see accounting.
B
This is not ad. Cash app has been paying me for well over a year and a half, by the way.
A
Accounting.
B
And actually, I'm glad you said that because I'm about to dig in the park's ass a little bit after I finish thinking thanking Cash app. Thank you to Cash App for getting it. For understanding crazy weird creatives like me. Thank you for empowering crazy weird creatives like me. Like, it's y' all that gives me like a little more umph when I go to the table and say these people.
A
Now I will say, even outside of what they've done with you on the pull ups and all the other stuff, I, I do like how Cash App moves when it comes to advertising. Advertising, I think it's really dope and unique that they don't do the traditional later on.
B
I'mma listen in a few months I'm going tell y' all just how great
A
Cash App is when we sign with them.
B
I'm already, I'm there already. I'm on Cash App records.
E
What's your splits looking like?
B
Well, and that's where he and his birdman see. And that's where. I'm not letting parks get these jokes off. Right. I'm in your ass paws because my elephant memory, I just remember the jokes. I remember jokes and things said subtly in my presence, even though I may not respond. So when I was trying to get this pull up thing together, I'm trying to get this pull up thing together at the time, unbeknownst to everyone else because I seen the, that Spotify was on ahead of time and they were on like some metric and, and, and we just had two different ideas of how things could be done. So I had to go and do it. Insert. Pull up. Insert Cash App. Insert. Park's jokes being. You try to come up with a better creation than the pod. You tried to create that. You tried to create the pod competition.
E
I don't think I remember that joke,
B
but Ian has written it down as well. He remembers these jokes as well.
E
Oh, okay.
B
These jokes occur. But it's.
A
And then he mixed them.
B
But it's okay. But it's okay. I know you were. You were digging at me. Not Cash App.
E
Oh, okay.
B
You were digging at me. And it was. It was a dig to me, but I just always remembered it. So when Spotify started to act real stupid and I knew I was gonna come in here and say them. No. We call. Leave a second to guess. Ghost.
A
Ghostbusters.
B
See why I don't leave a second to guess?
G
Yeah.
D
Cause just start saying anything, right?
E
Yeah.
B
I call Cash App. We call Cash App.
A
What's their number?
B
Know what they did? Sent something through on faith.
A
Did they send it via Cash App?
B
No worry.
E
Okay.
B
Well, yes. Cash App. Cash App.
A
In you is funny. Which way? They did do that for us.
E
Yeah, they did. I love Cash App. I don't know why you took it.
B
It enabled me the creative freedom to step back and see. That's really all we need money for facts. I hate money. But we need it so we could think clearly. Yeah. So that all the people that call us with financial problems, like our kids, our parents, our aunts, our friends, anybody that we want to help, we could just kind of get off the phone and. And help, and they can go on about their business and we can get back to whatever that mission is. Is. It's important. Like I said on whatever podcast is that was. You only need one person to get it, I guess is my main point. It was. It was irony to me that the most valuable asset in my possession would get a umph from something that I created to prove something about over here. I can't thank Cash App enough. I can't thank the fans enough, I think. And I can't thank y' all enough. Everybody else, I can thank them enough. I have enough for them, but y', all, Cash App and the fans, man. Man. Thank you, guys. Round of applause. Let me hit the round of applause for you guys. Yeah, yeah. Boys, back. Back on my bo.
A
How. How long would y' all say that quick break that we just took off, Mike was five minutes, six minutes?
B
Yeah. Seven.
A
Within that time.
E
Time.
A
One of My exes posted a photo and Mall put money bags under it. Within five minutes.
B
Swag.
D
That's a timeout.
A
It was a 30 second.
D
Yeah, 30 second time out and my
A
ex caught the money bags.
D
I didn't know that was your ex, bro. I'm sorry.
B
He's got it tattooed on his cheek.
D
Hey, I've never seen such.
B
And such is my ex.
D
I've never seen him all.
B
Don't do that.
E
That's disgusting.
A
Dick. You think you know your friends.
B
How now? How did it make you feel, Rory?
A
No, I said mall you could beat. I don't care.
D
He. Yeah, look what he tell. I'm like, bro, I want to. Who is she? I don't even know who she is.
B
We have to unmyth that myth.
E
Which myth?
B
You can beat no.
A
Mall could be. I. I really wouldn't care.
D
I would never.
A
There's some that I'd be like, nah, Mall can't beat.
B
I would never beat your ex.
D
Knowingly, like, if it's. If it's. If I didn't know. I didn't know. But knowing, pal.
B
What about after Real rhythm is no.
D
I would.
A
What if.
D
No.
A
What if Y' all have, like, the vibe is over.
B
Some of you got nice accent, like,
A
some of y' all got. Define.
B
Yeah, you guys all right, now sometimes
A
you gotta ask your man.
B
All right?
A
Define X like y' all was really together.
D
Nah, nah, man. If your man say that's his ex, that's his ex. Leave it alone. You can't do that.
B
All mine is my exes, though.
D
Like, every girl you've ever dated, dated, even if it wasn't your dating.
B
Yeah, you label that your ex. Sure.
D
Y' all are sick. You can't give every girl.
B
It's the ones that was my girl that I don't really claim.
D
Those are not the exes.
A
Those are the ones you can.
B
Your Rory is sick.
D
No, you can't.
B
Can't.
A
Comedy style.
D
Yeah. Theory style.
B
I like that theory style one, too. The day has finally come. Let's end this on Spotify once and for all.
D
All. What's that?
B
Your basketball takes have officially been retired by not only the fans, but I'm with them. Like, I support the decision.
A
You could leave that IP with spot.
B
You have been wrong.
D
It wasn't for, like, the mall curses.
B
Just slow down. Just slow down, slow down. Let us finish first and then you finish.
G
Go ahead.
B
You have been wrong about basketball
E
for
B
well over a year.
D
That's not true. I called the champion last year before the playoff started.
B
I said, watch out for broken clock is right twice a day. You've been wrong a lot when it comes to basketball. And you support Trump but are boycotting the NFL.
D
I don't support Trump.
A
Well, Trump is also.
D
I never voted for Trump.
B
I'm not voting for Trump. Mall, you said, I like this segment for wherever we go next. You said before the NBA season started that if LeBron plays like he should play like leaves the league and assists, then the lakers should win 35 games max. That's written down. You can't debate it's written down. I have a picture of it.
D
35 games, max. Okay,
B
defend it. Not okay. Speak to that.
D
How many games did they win?
B
First in the West, Maybe Mall's like,
E
in bed with Vegas, trying to throw the numbers off.
A
He works for the mob. Yeah, he's changing something. Whatever he says bet against. That's what the Genovese family is giving up.
B
Give me a little something going on. Just stay at the screen.
D
Wait, did I say that before AD Signed. I think AD Wasn't a Laker yet when I said that.
B
I didn't check the date.
D
Yeah, I don't think AD Was a Lake yet when I said that.
B
This guy's good.
D
I wouldn't say 35 games of AD was that, Max. Not if AD was signed. I wouldn't say that. I don't think AD was signed.
B
You said once Trez gets back sixth man of the year, that nobody was beating the Clippers four times in a row. I mean, four times. I said that in a series.
D
Said that.
B
Speak to it.
D
Oh, that was. The Clippers was everyone's favorite. All Vegas.
B
They weren't my favorite sports.
D
Every sports. Everybody had the Clippers winning.
B
I didn't have the Clippers doing anything. And speak to what you did, though.
D
I. I thought that they had one of the best teams on paper that we've probably seen in the NBA in the last, I don't know how many years. That's a really talented roster they had. They just. I mean, I don't know if the chemistry thing, I don't know. You know what it was coaching. They just couldn't. They couldn't close out. They couldn't get it done.
B
Ever since you said on Twitter, and I quote, who's going to guard Kimba? Kimba has gone on to average 8.7 points.
D
That's not true. See? Don't do that. I'm not letting you do that. Not letting you do that. I'm not letting you do that. I'm not Letting you do that.
E
I think Kevin came out and said he's been trash.
D
Yeah, he played well last game. He had a good game.
B
All right, so add the four points from the first game, and what's the average?
D
No, he's average.
E
Define good game, because you also said Westbrook is missing everything, but he's having a great game.
D
It was a good game. He was doing other things.
B
He wasn't scoring. No. Rory, come on. Rory, say something.
A
He moves without the ball like I do do.
E
That's all he does.
D
Yeah, yeah.
E
No, but I don't know that Westbrook moves without the ball.
A
That was. Someone came in here and said, yeah, Westbrook has missed the last 15 shots. Now he's having a great game.
D
Yeah, great game.
A
I never pretend to know that much about the NBA, but I'm like, all right, well, if he's missing, if the ball's not going in the hoop, but
D
that's not all it takes to have a good game.
A
You're right.
D
He was doing other things. He was doing. Doing other things.
A
But the. The triple double king.
D
That he is. That he is. Look, man, you know, it's just. What you want me to say, man? The Clippers couldn't get it done. Boston turning the ball over in the last two minutes. They letting games go.
B
Listen, I want you to say, Joe, you be right about a lot of. I came in here mad months ago, said, hey, you guys, is it me? Does it seem like Kawhi's got a thing with Paul? You say, yo, what you mean? And then from there, it's been a bunch of ice grilling things with Paul mushing them, waving them off. Nah, check out the game. That was the first time I saw a wave off of the picture telling them to check out of the game. Yo, go sit down by Doc.
D
Yeah, that was. That was bad. That was bad. But, I mean, it is what it is, man.
B
That's what you got for us?
E
Well, what we really need is your books going forward, so we know how
A
to bet so I can make some money here.
B
Got you.
E
Yeah.
D
Lakers by 11 tonight.
B
Denver and Sweep,
A
presented by Traffic Booking.
B
Yo, Joe, don't get props for nothing. I told y' all Miami was gonna make quick work of Tatum.
E
You have been on the Heat bandwagon, I'll give you that.
B
2 nothing.
E
Yeah.
D
Yeah.
B
Hey, it's gonna be 3 nothing, too, before you look up. And then we gonna take a breather. Then Jimmy Butler is gonna go back to the bubble hotel, and this is always how it goes. Whoever the chick Is. He's texting. She gonna text. They gonna stay up a little later that night. Texting. When you up? 3 0. Nah, I can go to bed at 1. He'll come out a little lethargic the next game. They'll get a win finally, and then they go home.
D
And you got Miami in five.
B
No, I have Miami in four.
D
Really?
B
I've only been screaming that since. I don't know if you said five.
D
Sweet.
B
I. I'm guessing. Well, I think it'll end in five because Boston will win a game. But in my brain, if Miami don't take a day off. Off, they're sweeping them. But I do think Miami will take a day off. They're young. Yeah. They got some veterans that's older. They might take it for granted. Jimmy Butler go to everybody's room, smack the out of them, and then they're right back. Yeah. Miam. Them just look like they didn't. The. The COVID testing girl.
A
No, they're focused.
E
Deflected by Butler.
B
Tries screaming, screaming, screaming, screaming. Can you cut that off Screen? That's not. It's not what your contract says.
A
I told you he stayed with Spotify.
B
It doesn't just say that. I saw him over there googling new jobs.
A
Yeah.
E
At Spotify.
B
Yeah. Trying to get this Squarespace out of here.
A
Hey, I can help you with your LinkedIn.
B
I called Squarespace, told him no, don't take Screen Man. Blackballed you from the jobs
A
telling any place to black Screen man as the screen man.
B
Is there anything. Is there anything important in music that you guys would like to discuss?
E
There's a lot of releases.
A
I was gonna say, do we want to get into new music or we want to get into music? Music.
B
I'm still playing Usher. Bad habits. I don't care what anybody else did. It is. And Scissors Record. I'm still playing too.
A
I'm with you.
B
Which got me to. And there ain't too many records that make you go back to it. I'm still playing the Nas record. I'm still playing Snow's record. I'm still playing Brandy's record.
E
Still play Ransoms.
B
Other than that.
D
Albums.
B
It's tough to.
D
It's.
B
It's. It's a tall task for an album to keep me as a return.
E
For sure.
D
Yeah, it is. I just hate the way that you have to, like, search for new projects
B
that drop on Fridays.
D
Like, there were so many people I didn't even know drop.
E
Like, listen, you're stealing all my data. Why don't you Use it and show me the.
B
That I want.
E
The.
D
That I want. Like, show me the music I'm listening to on my phone.
B
The artist that I like. I got to find out about it from their Instagram and then go search it.
D
Yeah, yeah. Follow the Instagram either.
B
So it's like. Exactly. Yeah. Cuz they're not popping up in the algorithms.
D
Yeah, no, no, not at all.
B
But. All right, get to the new music. That dropped. Alicia Keys dropped.
D
She did. That was the first album on itunes.
E
Yeah.
A
Well, you knew that was gonna happen.
B
I purchased it.
D
How was it?
B
I purchased it and for all the crap that I may have given Alicia Keys.
C
Yeah.
E
Probably wild. When I was talking about the.
B
I didn't like. I don't. I didn't like the Miguel record. Okay. I didn't like another record that was leaked from it. It was just a little too mature for me.
E
Okay.
B
But the album is good. And the songs that I complained about, like Nas, sound a lot better in. In the scheme of the album. I loved all the features she had. Khalid who. Everything he's on I love for some reason. Yeah.
A
That was the single, right? The first one?
E
Yeah.
B
I don't know. I don't know. Tierra Wack. Who else? Snow and Jill Scott. Scott.
E
Come on, you.
B
You win me over. Yeah.
A
Sean C. Produced the Jill Scott record.
B
Yep. Yeah, it's a good record. That Snow record is real good too. I thought about starting with it, but it's our last episode, so that. And I didn't want to get. Brand, man.
A
I was gonna say.
B
Yeah.
A
And you're going through that Brand. Come on. That love triangle of R B artists.
B
Yeah, Yeah. I can't bring the bartender game to the songstresses. Yeah.
D
No, it's not gonna work.
A
Can't pin them against each other.
B
Yeah. No, no.
A
Opposite sides of the bar. Who's going to pour?
B
Joe Patrone and I. Yo, Rory, what's up with you, man?
E
Shout out to Cash App and Cash Doll. Cashed out.
B
You ever just walk to the bar that you wanted to sit at, but your peoples was at a different bars you came over to about it?
D
Yeah, it's happened plenty of times.
B
Why you at this bar? It's comfortable.
A
I made sure there was a seat right here for you.
B
I don't care that you're not getting the money. That's your job, y'. All My bills are paid.
A
You've been on IG Live for two hours. I want my drink in a. A timely manner.
E
Yeah, yeah.
B
That's really pissing me off. Watching some of these bartenders in Atlanta and LA that are just insta. Living their entire set shift.
E
That's what they used to do in New York.
D
Yeah,
B
N. In New York, they'll get on when they trying to be cute. These girls are ig loving their entire shift.
A
That's sick.
B
Then they post it. I go through it to make sure there's no beat off in there. And then I'm like, oh, come on, man.
A
No, at least the. At least the startenders, like, planned their lives, like, all right, we're all gonna get together for this one. And you're gonna do the move, you know, the move you do. And I'm gonna smile like.
B
At least the star attendants will act like. Like they'll go do the Tekashi video together. Keep the wig on an extra week.
D
Yeah, they're getting paid.
B
Always get paid with y'. All.
D
Oh, they act like friends when they
A
gonna get paid and then say,
B
come on. Do y' all want to talk about some of this contract stuff that's going on? Oh, wait, Music. We're on music. We're on music. I'm sorry. Alicia Keys. I love your project. I love your project real good.
D
I gotta check.
A
I have to listen to it. You want to leave with first lady of your label, Armani?
E
Yeah, her album's dope.
D
Real good. The Liz Cash dog gonna keep up. We shall see.
A
You don't have to pin women against each other, Joe. They can all exist in a space and get money.
E
Stay out of women's business.
D
Stay out of. No, but Armani's album is good. I liked it. I listened.
E
I liked it a lot.
B
It's good if it's bad.
D
It was. It was quick, though. Only 20, 27 minutes. Something like that, yeah. It was a good project, though.
A
Name a Grisella release. That was Trash.
D
Trash. I don't think they have a Trash.
A
I'm. I'm joking.
D
Well, yeah, no, not trash, but I like the project.
B
This was.
D
This was really good.
B
Good.
D
I think this is a good introduction. Like, a lot of people are just finding out who Ammani is. I think this is a good introduction for. To a lot of people.
E
She looks like that and sampled Red Band on the lead single. So me, what do you want?
D
No, the production was. Was insane.
E
It's a win.
D
Yeah, it's a good project.
B
Really good. Don't tell me that again. Don't tell me. The production was insane.
D
It was.
B
No, it was good production. Insane.
D
Like this. The track she's on.
B
Shell stop how the Are you becoming.
D
You talking about an album? What are about.
B
You talking mean, but don't use all the cool word. The track. No, the tracks she was on.
A
She was on all of them, actually.
B
I said, yeah, this guy. All right, forget it. Don't worry about it.
D
No, it was a good project, though. Real good. It was. It was short, but.
B
And I'm talking. I'm just talking. I'm just.
A
It is a really good album.
D
It's good.
B
Y' all can't ca.
A
I like any girl that does a Ginger Ross scene reference.
E
Come on.
A
Like I was sold from Rip.
B
Yeah.
A
And what's the beat they use for the many moves? Freestyle. I'm blanking, but I don't remember. That was fire. Yeah, no, I like the project a lot.
B
Snapped. I don't know.
A
Gotta listen.
D
You know, it's. It's an older sample, everybody.
A
It's not even sample. They just use the beat.
B
Got it?
D
Oh, yeah, yeah. But it's a good project. Real good.
B
Rhapsody came out as well with a single twice.
A
Well, problem.
E
Damn produce
B
hand back in your backpack.
E
Oh, you're right.
A
Come on, take it off. Come on, unstrap your chance.
B
Hell, as soon as the. As soon as he starts finding the colorways in the Pumas. Now you don't know. Now you don't know. The new Rhapsody drops the out of your part.
A
Now he's carrying his bag.
E
Yeah.
B
Rhapsody drop. So I don't know what she's doing now because it says. It says single and it sounds. Sounds singly.
A
It does.
B
And Rhapsody. Rhapsody is kendricky to me in the fact that if I think about her at any point, I could picture her going in the studio and finishing 12 songs and being ready to release.
D
Yeah.
A
Her just putting out a record to put out a record is not typically her style at this point in her career.
B
She's probably. She's probably ready with something.
D
Yeah, I think.
B
I'm sure.
E
It's been a couple. Well, yeah, a couple years.
B
It's been a little while.
A
Year and a half, maybe.
B
Yeah, man.
E
Something like that.
B
Shout out to Rhapsody. You know we love you, friend of the show. Still waiting on my pull up with you still waiting on my pull up with you oh, I got you.
D
Good song.
B
Well, thanks, Warren. Yeah, talk to her. Appreciate that, man.
A
Speaking of that camp.
B
Come on, we a network, man.
A
I can't wait for the network. Net worth bar from Joe. It's coming. I know it's coming.
B
You know what's funny? No matter what I say in my return to the game, Verse gonna laugh at you. They gonna. They gonna destroy what I'm saying. Like I'm under more pressure than three stacks.
E
Absolutely.
B
Then ho. When he came back. Who has more pressure than Joe returning to the game?
D
Even if it's a fire record. They gonna laugh you out.
A
Of course.
B
I don't even know what you call it now. It's not the game anymore. No, it's the game. It's the culture.
A
It's the algorithm.
B
Yo, what am I coming back to the culture with?
A
That's gonna be a funny verse. I think you only got 16 in you too.
B
Nah, I want to return. They might have to get a short.
A
Nah, you got to get in 32, which is 73.
B
Nah, that's giving away IP.
A
No, come on.
B
It's giving away my IP.
D
No, I can't do it, man.
B
I can't do it.
A
Somebody listening to you is giving away your ip.
B
Yep.
A
Even if you own it.
B
Quick note. There has nothing to do with Angel. Anything. After about nine months, finally, my Restoration Hardware rugs have come to my room.
D
Oh, congratulations, CO. That's wealth.
B
Gorgeous.
E
Yeah.
B
Yeah, they are gorgeous. And I don't know if I told rugs.
E
Actually, you owe me a rug, man.
B
I don't owe you a Restoration Hardware rug.
E
Well, it doesn't have to be restoration. It could be Wayfair.
A
He may have a point.
B
It could be 1 and 9.
A
1 and 9 has good rugs, though.
B
I got a bunch of rugs from 1 and N. That's what I'm saying.
A
1 and 9 is good.
B
R. Damn. Threw me off appointment. Oh, and. And I don't know if I told y. I know. I told Corey my. The window dresser guy that I thought died is alive. Did I tell you what?
E
The window dresser guy.
B
I'm getting my windows done again. What a sentence. N. Listen, where to start? I don't. Y' all listen. I don't know if y' all pay attention to the window dressing when you come to my house, but it's well. It's well done.
E
It's well dressed.
B
He did that.
D
I don't know.
A
I prefer my windows a little slow, bloody.
D
Something short.
E
Yeah, a little skippy. Something skippy.
A
I like a harlot window.
E
Something revealing.
A
Yeah, a little hussy, little sheer lace.
B
5 Rory. Replacements for the new. For the new. Mall is harder to replace. Parks, too. He's unique. Here we have great sound quality. Rory, though. There's some because he just addresses windows.
E
He's out there.
B
Some ginger out there. That's. That's Witty.
D
Some ginger Blake Griffin.
B
And yeah, what if we could get Blake here, huh? Y' all still want Roar?
E
He's really tall. I don't know.
A
Yeah, I might give him my spot for Blake. Cuz Blake is funny too.
E
He is. He's comedian.
B
He is.
D
He's funny.
B
I might give up my spot for Blake. All right, what was we talking about?
E
New music.
A
Yeah.
B
In the raps, calling somebody phone that you think is dead is hilarious.
A
That's what it's like confusing.
B
And he answered.
D
Did you tell him you thought he was dead then?
B
No, but I did. I did. I drove home. The. No, listen, I'm just glad you're well and here and hey, whenever you get to it.
D
Yeah, yeah. Whenever you're.
B
Take your time and I'll be here.
G
Right.
E
Were your window dressing guys in the streets.
B
My window dresser guy. Or was he had. He had about With COVID Okay, okay. He had a battle with COVID a while ago. He got missing in action. And then he came and he put up my. That was at the last house that I picked out. And then I think he got coveted again. Oh, but I didn't know that he dressed. I didn't know that in between. So I was sending my. I was sending my Harlem. My Harlem cousins and to drive by his store. And the gates were down for months and months and months. So the gates were down for months in this pandemic. Who knows what that means? And he wasn't answering his phone. And I knew he had been sitting sick with co. Yeah.
D
So you just started thinking.
B
And I thought the worst. Yeah, Yeah, I thought the worst. Oh, when he answered the phone. Oh, my Windows is back and good that everyone's alive.
D
Yeah. No thing that he's in good health, good spirits. Yes, yes. Let's get to that first.
B
Yes. That's first and foremost. Second and foremost. Second most windows will look good. Fire. Yeah, Fire.
E
Take a look. You know, maybe I need that for the new place. Nice window dressing.
B
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. You need that. Yeah, that's. That's the next level. Yeah. Alicia Keys came out. Rhapsody came out. Armani Caesar came out. Who else came out? Rory.
A
I was saying while we were in. In the Rhapsody world, gq, knives artist.
E
Oh, yeah.
A
Put out a really, really dope project that 9th produced.
D
That record that they all put out was dope.
A
Yeah. The album is. Is really dope.
D
Hold.
A
Let me grab the title while we're here.
D
Midsummer's Nightmare.
A
Yes. Midsummer's Nightmare.
B
You talking about that. Midsummer's Nightmare.
A
Shut up. Album is great.
B
But you wrote down your review.
A
No, I listened to it once before the podcast, and it sounded great.
D
It's only, like, three songs, right?
A
Sure.
B
More than three.
E
Yeah.
D
Okay.
E
I played with a song Sleepers, like, last week. Yeah, yeah, he's dope.
A
No, it's Friday, Joe. I didn't get to listen to all the music. Seven Records. Listen to it before the podcast. It sounded amazing.
B
Don't be spicy with me, Ginger Mamba.
E
My guy Riggs put out a tape with his crew, the Cloth from Rochester. He'd probably really enjoy it more.
D
Okay.
E
It's called the Fix Tape. I'll send it to you.
D
All right, bet.
B
Yeah.
E
Real dope project. Friend of the show Graph put out a project. Real dope project.
A
Shout out to Graph.
B
I saw you liking some of Graph's picks.
A
I see you the money bag on the graph.
B
I didn't give him the money bag. Yes, you did.
E
I got a different brand, you know,
B
I mean, make giving the money back to graph and pap without a single.
D
I think they got an MP3 emoji.
B
Yeah, no, he did act without a single.
E
Yeah, he did west side with somebody else. French. West side.
B
And French or not West.
E
I'm sorry.
B
Conway and French Conway.
E
Yeah, yeah. And Brady Watt and Brady.
B
Yeah, yeah. Shout out to Brady. Some more music came out.
A
Sean Smith put out a project.
B
Yep. Shout out to Matt.
E
Friends of the show put out projects. It was a good week for the friends of the show.
A
Problem. Put out a project.
E
Yep, a problem.
B
Love problem. Love problem. I got to check it out. He hit me about it.
A
Kamaya put out a project. I didn't get a chance to not see that one. I. With Kama and Queen mc. Sweetie put out a single. Tiger yg. I know. I know they was there, but I mean, the Sweetie record I need to edit.
B
This one is going to have the strip clubs on fire.
A
I'll tell you, my only strip club.
B
It.
A
Don't. Don't
B
y. Don't tell me that. What the hell? What the hell?
E
I can't wait for the video.
A
I. You should never put a Sweetie song out without the visual.
E
That's a fact.
A
That's my issue here.
E
Well, we want to focus on the lyrics first.
B
I hope Sweetie does not keep Quo away from Offset.
E
Now he needs him.
A
She flipped the HOV bar in the verse.
B
Brilliant. She found the 92.
A
Said she got the hottest dude in Atlanta in her sheets.
E
See, she did it better if you really think about it.
A
Yeah, she might have beat HOV on that one.
D
Y' all are sick.
A
Because we appreciate real lyrics, right?
B
No, no, don't put the camera on my face. Don't do that. Me and Quavo pieced it up. I like a lot of his pics. Don't put the camera.
E
We're talking lyrics, Joe.
A
Do you put the money bag under his face?
B
I got the hottest dude in the game in. In my sheets.
A
Yeah, wearing her.
B
I don't want to picture Quo wrapped up in her. She. Oh, man. Quo is a trap. King. Babe, are you getting in the bed?
D
You know Treo, you know, you know Quo come from the bed with no sheets on it. On the trap.
B
That's always great when the dude is in the bed naked talking about, come on, babe, get in bed. Oh, you've been in there forever now. I've been that guy. No, me too. Me too.
E
That's me.
B
That's my life. How long are you gonna be in the bathroom?
E
I like you as you are.
B
Yo, dude.
D
Sir.
B
The straight suckers in the crib.
A
You're going out with your friends again?
D
They could be straight suckers in the bed. So stupid.
B
I get up and walk in the bathroom. Oh, come on, babe. What you doing?
D
I remember the first time I went to my homeboy crib. This is a straight thug. This opened the door, he had a robe.
A
I said.
D
I said, yo, you shot at, you own a robe?
B
My. What you got a robe for? For quality of life. For shooters.
D
N you supposed to have on some basketball shorts and a T. Oh, this might.
B
This my shirt.
A
Shooting at somebody, putting a robe on after order.
B
Swag. Man, are you doing. Come on, babe. I paused it for us.
A
You're missing key plot points.
B
I'm not going to tell you what happened when you come back, don't ask.
D
Dudes are sick.
B
But why dudes so corny?
D
That is funny. It's true though. It's true.
A
Cuz we're corny.
E
Yeah.
D
No, at the end of the day, we need. We need love too.
B
That's why they love talk to us like we just chump.
D
Cuz they know.
B
They see the corny side of it.
D
They know.
A
Oh, they don't know.
E
I've seen you in bed waiting, bitch.
B
Yeah, I seen you in bed waiting for me. On soft.
D
Yeah. Once she see you soft, you can't talk spicy to her no more. You can't talk spicy to her no more. She see you soft, you can't talk spicy.
B
And I seen you when it was was gonna stay on soft. I seen a couple of them moments too. Huh? Yo, I don't know what's going on. This never happens with me.
A
I've been dating you for years.
B
Hey, why don't you try licking me here? Well, you got to break that line out.
G
It's bad.
B
Try licking here.
D
Try looking here.
A
Oh, the chardonnay.
E
Too much ros? Tonight, babe. I don't know.
A
Tell you, so many mimosas, I can't get it up.
D
Blaming it on liquor. I don't know. I drank the wrong thing tonight.
B
Oh, none better than all the white claws. Nothing better than you can't get it
A
up off the white claws.
B
What's that? Oh, God.
A
A really.
E
A wussy drink.
A
Fruity drink.
E
Too many Zimas.
D
A wussy drink.
E
I love white claws.
A
Anyways, listen, man, Tiger keeps making the same song, and it's great every time. It's the same beat. It. It's a rack hook every time. Yeah, and I. It's. It works.
B
Yeah, I'm sorry. I'm thinking about Blac. Chyna did some. Some interview over the weekend when you said Ty got thought about Black China, and Black China did some interview over the weekend, and she was like, I'm super blessed. Ain't none of these paying me child support. I was like, whoa. Let me investigate this.
A
How you investigated. Called Ian, called the Shade Room, get our lawyer on this one. I know Kanye put out his contract, but Black China says no child support.
B
Listen, I don't know how these dudes be getting it off. Yeah, these dudes are good. Well, in my investigation, it said they hired a retired, retired private judge. I was like, all right, I'm not rich enough yet. I'm not rich enough. Get to the retired private judge. Going to make us amicable.
A
You got to make 15 records with racks in the hook.
B
I like Ty a lot.
A
Me, too. I'm not hating at all. This record sounds like every great record he's done, and it still sounds good.
E
I can't wait for the video the
B
other day when I had the Aux, because I'm the worst person to have the Aux. When it's like some mixy chicks around grabbed the Aux. I went right to my. Right to my little mellow playlist.
A
You ain't learn from the first time.
B
Come on. What are you trying to make me go to sleep? You ain't got nothing but a little more umph in it. You guess where. Come on, you know where I went, Tiger. Leaving a second to guess. You guessed. Start jamming. I was like, hey, it works every time.
D
It works every Time.
B
Hey, I went from that to the sweetie tap in. Hey, I got you. You had a little say. I gave him my heavy rotation playlist.
E
You can't go wrong with sweetie, you
B
know what I mean? Oh, St. John, five songs in. Not the first. Come on, man.
E
Anyway. Sweetie St. John. I feel you.
B
Huh? And I was singing the hook with her. Tapped in. We tapped in.
D
It's not even a hook. We tapped in.
B
No, you gotta add to it. Tapped in. Come on. What else we got? What else we got? We got Rory here to break down Kanye's contract for you. Come on, before we get out the door.
D
Had put out a record.
B
Wait, who put out a record?
A
Brent F. Put out a record.
D
Good record.
A
Dead man Walking. I like it a lot.
D
Yes, good record.
B
I want to see Brent F. Is and Bryson Tiller just duke it out.
A
Why the comparison isn't like that though. They don't sound alike.
B
I'm making a joke. I don't.
A
No, no, no, no. I'm sorry, I thought you're saying cuz on the timeline, that was a big thing today.
B
I haven't even been on the timeline today. I've been trying to get us money
A
from cash app.
B
No, that's my money
A
cash. Hey, what about the pod? No, none of that.
B
No, they pay me, I pay you. That's how it works. No, no, no, no, no, no. I just haven't been on time.
A
Well, no, that was.
B
Tell me what.
A
Yeah, they were just trying to compare that Brent Faz and Bryson are like the same and I didn't understand. They don't sound alike.
B
I don't care what Brent's music sounds like. I love. I love his business. I don't care what his music sounds like. I love how he goes about his business. The end. And that's all I need today. I don't need to like you music. I need to like either you or how you moving out here?
A
Yeah, shout out to his manager, Ty. They. They do really well.
B
And Bryson said he's dropping a song Monday, right?
E
Album is that song.
A
Oh, okay.
B
He said song. You better not step out there with no album, okay? Courtesy of Park's trying to kill here. You coming out with an album Sunday night? Yeah, all right.
D
Sunday.
B
Just whenever. It better be Friday with eight weeks of rollup.
A
You listen to the Justin Enchants?
B
I heard they the gospel mockery.
E
No, I didn't peep it.
B
The Holy edition. What the is. Oh my God. Construction worker jb. I'm so sick of him.
D
That's your man, right?
B
There, man. Y' all go through it.
D
I didn't hear it. I didn't hear the record.
A
I mean, I kind of feel the way that took the queen, Ryan.
E
Oh, yeah.
A
I thought that was her, but I didn't really like all that. That she was the leading lady in this. I mean, I know she was. She was doing her good deeds and everything, and I. I love her for that in the video, but I ain't really like sweaty construction worker Justin around her.
E
Yeah, get your meat hooks off of her.
D
Your meat hooks. Your meat hooks.
A
Wasn't really feeling that.
B
That I feel you were.
D
Fox is an idiot, man.
A
But check that song out.
E
Currency and Fraud dropped a. A new project again. A re up of the last one I got. Not a deluxe, like a whole new.
D
I got to check that out.
B
Yeah. Yo, I support a lot of the people y' all naming, but I'll be honest. I'm not listening to a lot of this.
E
I don't play a lot of this.
A
Are you going to listen to the Money Bag? Yo, and Black Youngster project that I do?
B
I like both.
D
I heard. I heard that was a good project.
B
I like both them, so I will. I will listen to that.
E
I'm going check that out. No, no offense.
B
It's offense, though.
D
Whatever. But he's just saying this is not my style.
E
Like, I'm not.
B
No offense, but no offense. Don't stop. I like it.
D
Don't stop.
B
The offense was made when he said, no, it helps.
D
It helps the artist understand, like, I'm
B
just telling you what's going on.
E
Everything ain't for everybody.
D
That's. That's a fact.
B
That's true.
A
Maseo put out a single Passport to Rory.
B
No. Yo, you still at Sony? Did you go back to Sony? This guy knows all the relationships, releases. It's a record or Jesus Records record. Okay.
D
Shout out to mistake.
A
You are a album. Coming soon.
B
Music connoisseur.
A
Yeah, no, we used to do a music podcast.
B
Long time ago. Yeah, before. Before we changed for the money.
A
Now we're talking about Cash App and Ryan Destiny.
E
Two great products.
A
Listen, product. She's not a product. She's a human being.
E
She's a product of a low loving relationship.
A
Okay. You know, a product of Christ.
E
That too.
B
Yeah.
A
All right, Mo, break down the. The masters that you sold to Def Jam.
E
Yeah.
B
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Slow down, slow down. Seven Drop. Seven dropped the song, and I like it a lot, so I'm playing some of it. Real happy for seven. Real happy for Justine Sky Real happy for some of these young ladies that have been out and have been considered consistent enough to do what they're doing right now.
D
She keeps a good record.
B
I remember a time where she was caught up in what the song should sound like. Should I go Pop? Should I stay? I remember that time. But as far as the voice, oh, no, she's dope. I don't think we need. I don't think. Yeah, and her pen. I don't think we need to speak too much about that. 7. We love you over here, friend of the show. Congratulations. We really happy for you, Ghost. And I have a song in my phone from Rocky featuring somebody that I won't name that Berg sent to me with the same exact beat. I wonder if Berg did this.
E
Which Rocky?
A
I was asking if Berg did this.
D
His. His tag isn't on the top.
E
Sorry.
D
So I don't know.
B
Y' all hear punk?
E
I was talking about ASAP Rocky, but
B
same thing to me. Same Rocky and I beat foot all of Rockies. Hey, they kick Ferg out of the ASAP mob and he dropped the album.
D
They, they, they worked it out.
E
Oh, he's back.
B
I didn't.
D
No, no, I did.
B
Yes, you did. Yes, you did.
A
Harlem sticks together.
D
You got everybody brothers beefing. That's all it is.
B
We didn't pay too much mind to that anyway. I'm joking. No, I'm joking, of course.
A
New Ruby Rose video.
E
How was it?
A
Phenomenal.
E
Beautiful.
B
Beautiful. Is there a new Ruby Rose pick?
A
She's in the video.
E
Yeah.
B
Motion.
E
There's motion involved.
A
No, there's a video before I finish.
B
How old is Ruby Rose?
A
23.
B
Probably going where the last like she'll get from me. She'd be killing though.
A
Never mind 21.
B
The 23 year olds be having to come me face and it makes it tough cuff edit. We got to edit a couple. You don't have to edit, Rory. Ah, well, we've been knew that far we got to edit that. And I'm not talking about her. I'm just saying 23 year old. You got to develop the whereith and not fall to come to the come me right now Face. My parents are gone.
A
Support me.
B
Hey, I got the house to myself. What are you doing at 8?
D
Oh, those are the best days. Those are the best times.
B
Come on over your mama furniture.
A
If only she knew I was.
D
I wasn't going that far with it, but okay.
B
I'm kidding, by the way. I'm kidding. What they gonna do?
D
Fireman theory style.
B
It's the last episode that did used
A
to be the best, too. When mom would come home and you'd still be on the couch. Like, you have no idea what I just did on this couch that you worked hard for.
B
Went a little different in black households. My mom had every idea what was happening while she was going to work. And the next girl I brought over that wasn't that girl, she told her.
A
Yeah, that's talking about her mom, not mine.
B
Oh, hey. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Until you have a son that gets old enough to go in a girl's
D
house, and now you start talking like your parents used to talk.
B
Right, boy? Yeah. See?
D
See how the tables go? Yeah.
B
And that's where I'll stop before I divulge too much and tell my son, if you don't put your dick in your little fucking pants. If you don't put your dick in the size 18 jeans and go to school while I'm paying for shit out here. And the cars say, you've been going to New York a lot, too.
A
The toll I get the easy hey.
B
That the tolls say, why you in New York every damn night?
D
You're such a parent now, man. You are so.
B
Now the funny shit don't why I love it. Cause bought him the lemon for his first car, as you should have. Yeah. I cannot tell the list which came I need to look at. I cannot tell y' all the joy I get every other night when he posts an insta story about how the car broke down. It's every day somewhere far. I love it. Good. I love it. I. Oh, man, it's great. Great. It is awesome.
E
Hey, you got to go through that.
B
It's great when you. I DM my kid. Yeah. Hey, when I see the story get wild, I DM him roll down the
E
windows and turn the heat on full blast. The car will go further.
B
No, no, no, no. Hey. I don't know what you don't understand about a limit. You cannot drive to Connecticut every night.
A
Yeah.
B
What don't you get, you little idiot?
D
Nah, he's. He on the road.
B
Road.
A
Oh, no, I learned.
B
But every night. You cannot put those mouths on this car daily. I know. Whoever you live far, guess what? Need another route.
D
Oh, another girl.
B
Amtrak goes there every other day on Instagram. Stranded in Camden. I'm like, nigga, they are kill. They will kill you on the side of the road talking about, I got a flat.
D
Yeah, I know. Yeah.
B
I love you. Trash my baby.
A
Yeah. Every man became kind of a fake mechanic with a horrible hoopty car.
E
Yeah.
A
Like When I was pushing my 1993 Chevy Malibu to Delaware in 2010.
B
Yeah, I like a Malibu.
A
Hey, you know, it got me there. Didn't really give me back.
E
My favorite was my Volvo that started with a screwdriver.
B
Okay.
E
Key broke off.
D
Was it yours?
E
It was mine.
D
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
D
Okay.
E
Keep broke off in it. It was totaled.
D
See, that's white privilege. You can't be black with a screwdriver as a key.
B
Or. Or not. See, I like the white people that their parents don't have money if we still gotta start with the screwdriver. Johnny and Ryan have never done that. Never.
D
They wouldn't know what to do with that school.
B
Hey, that's the thing. Hey, once we get out of racism, we can look at the different degrees of want white.
D
Yeah, for sure. It's a real thing. It exists.
A
As Chris Rock says, the real white people.
B
I love parks.
E
Thanks, Joe.
B
He starts a car with a screwdriver, makes the best chicken I've ever tasted. And lamb.
A
Never stole a car with a screwdriver?
B
Screwdriver, no.
G
Okay.
E
Just gotta take the ignition out.
A
Yeah, it's actually probably an easier way to do it. Yeah, whatever y' all do that wire.
B
Whatever y'.
C
All.
E
Some hot wire. Some movie.
A
That's for the tech people.
B
Whatever y' all did with a screwdriver, I'm sure I did with a butter knife.
E
Oh, yeah. Say what I did.
B
Okay.
A
No, I mean, throw a little Phillips head flat. Either one will work.
E
Pennies. Anything. Anything.
B
Stealing car game. Yo, that game is so complicated now. Now that I have my car stolen out my driveway and I understand what was going on, like, well, no, now
E
they got the little digital shits where you can just
B
steal your car from the driveway.
A
When we were learning how to do that, that didn't exist.
B
Yeah, and now they're not taking it to the chop shop in the Bronx. Now it's in Japan. They stole your car at 1pm if you didn't catch it before it got to that dock.
A
No, it's not happening.
B
They don't care. Hey, hey. They can't take it. There's chips in there. That chip is dead. In Japan. We are in the ocean. It's over.
A
And the people stealing it, if they don't get to that dock in 20 minutes, they ditching that shit immediately. Let's get the fuck out this car. They're gonna find us.
D
That's a crazy.
B
And I respect. Hey, I respect anybody that's had that feeling. You come out, you know where you parked at, and it's not there. You gotta experience that.
D
Yeah. They're coming out the club.
B
They stole my car out my driveway, and I walked to the street just to make sure. Maybe I forgot. I said, you know what? It was wild last night, man.
E
Yeah.
B
Maybe my recollection is I might have
E
left it out there.
B
Hey, I looked. I walked in the street and looked both ways. It wasn't a Benz in sight. You walked to the street. You had to.
D
You had to click in your hand. You was trying to see which one.
A
I think I let my mom borrow the car. Right.
B
Hey, sitting. Sleep as hell upstairs like the. The car. It ain't even.
D
No, it's not.
E
It's going.
D
It ain't there now. It's going.
B
Oh, man. R. All right, what's going on?
A
Tipped him off.
B
I'm sure he did. All right, what else we got? Come on, Maul.
E
Contract analysis.
B
Yeah, come on, come on, Come on,
E
Lawyer mall, break it down for us.
B
Yeah, but before we get into that, I'm back to it being our last episode, man. If somebody has Sha Stockman's Shawn Stockman's number, give him a call, man. He was quick to make jokes on me with Rory and Maul.
A
I give him a call.
B
Go.
A
Let's see.
B
Man, that was fast. God damn. You got him on favorites.
A
Don't do that.
B
We.
A
We was off Mik talking about it.
B
Don't do that.
A
Don't try to perceive something. Don't try to perceive something.
B
Look. Telling them how the magic is made.
A
Sean, what's up? This is Roy from the Joe Button podcast. You are live on air. What's going on, man?
C
Good evening, gentlemen. Good afternoon. How y' all doing?
A
Good, Sean, how you doing?
B
Doing?
C
I am great, thank you. How about you guys?
B
Sean, man, we are amazing. We are excellent. We are blessed. Last time we called you, you brushed us to the side, cuz. You were in a session with Chris Brown and all the guys.
A
And Usher.
B
And Usher.
C
What?
B
Yeah. You kind of just put us off to the side. We're calling now. We're calling now, Sean Stockman, because we need. We need advice.
C
Okay.
B
We have come. This is our last episode on. On Spotify.
C
Yeah, I'm sad about that, man. I'm really, really sad about that.
B
Don't be. They mean our people no good. We're.
A
We're ecstatic.
B
They mean our people no good. But this is the first. This is one. This is the first time that us as a collective are coming to the end of the road.
C
Okay?
B
And there's no one Better to speak to or maybe Wanye, but outside of Wanye, there's no one better to speak to about the end of the road.
C
Man, fuck you, nigga.
B
Hey, I ain't. Forget them jokes, Sean. Shawnee, I remember what you said. Listen, man, do you have. Do you have advice for us, like, beginning a new chapter, coming to the end of the road? No one harmonized that more beautifully than you. We see visions of a sunset in our future. Talk to us, Sean.
C
Well, you know what, Joe? Like, first off, I would like to say congratulations on your new, you know, adventures. You know what I mean? Because as sad as I'm sure all of us are to see, you know, you take this hiatus for however long, we're not dead.
B
I don't know how long you're gonna be going, but you don't know.
C
I'm just trying to set this up, dude.
B
Okay, go ahead, Go ahead. My bad.
C
Okay. You know, it is. We. We appreciate not only you guys entertaining us, making us laugh and all that, but for, you know, giving us all a little education and information for those who do not know the ins and outs of the music business and, you know, the intricacies that go with just doing the simple things we like to do, like speak to our fans or sing a damn song. There's so many things that go into all of that, you know, from. From an infrastructural standpoint. But what I would like to say is. And I'm sure you're getting a lot of advice from. From people that are a hell of a lot smarter than me, you know, I would like to say just continue to educate people. You know, I've had my. My, My, I guess, thoughts about what you've been ranting about these past couple episodes. And as a brother, and. And I really wanted to talk to you privately, but since you got me
B
on a radio and. We will talk privately, Sean.
C
Okay. Okay. But, you know, I will say this, though. You know, a lot of things that have been done, sometimes it's okay to. To practice some level of not letting everybody know your moves. Because the bottom line is there are haters out there. There are people that wait to see you fall.
D
Absolutely.
C
And then they pounce.
D
Absolutely.
C
And a lot of times. And what I was taught is you never let any motherfucker. You never let them see you sweat, no matter how bad the circumstances are, no matter how bad the situation is, because people tend to try exploit those things. People try to, you know, and they did use that as a chink in the armor and try to use that against you. And that's what everybody, close family, friends, business associates and all those things. So what I've learned is that with a lot of the stuff that goes on, at least from what I was taught, to not let too many people in on your, on your on, on business because there's so many, there are more people that don't understand than the
B
ones, you know what I'm saying?
C
And, and, and they're going to be people that are going to have their opinions. And we live in a day and age of information. It ain't got to be true. All you got to do is just post it.
B
You're right.
C
And then it's off and running, you know what I'm saying? You, you, I'm sure you, I know you know that you know what I'm saying. And that's some of the worst shit that, that I don't like about the social media age is that you can post shit, you can say things about people, people, and then it just runs like wildfire. So you find yourself, you know, doing a bunch of damage control over bullshit. So my thing is the, the more you guys obviously are unit, y' all click and y' all stick together and I love that shit. But, you know, for the most part, keep a lot of, you know what it is that you're gonna be doing in the future. My personal advice to yourself, because you can't believe in God and not believe in the devil, which means this, when you have people pray for good things. Now I'm an atheist, there are people that also pray for bad things, you know what I'm saying? Like, you can't believe in praying for good things for people and not believe that someone can pray for your downfall.
B
I agree. I have at least 10 exes that are into witchcraft. Anytime some bad shit start happening, I know they over the stove, stove talking about. I know what they're doing, Sean. No, I appreciate that. You are absolutely right. You're right, you are, you are absolutely right about what you're saying.
C
But yo, I know what type of dude you are. Like, you know, you gotta get shit off your chest. And I understand that. Being an artist myself, I understand that, you know, most of us don't have a platform that you have. So when you're mad, when you're upset that, you know, when you salty about some shit, you able to get it off and you have an audience for it, which is a blessing. But sometimes it could be a curse, you know what I'm saying? And sometimes you Got to pick your spots on when and where you do that at. Because again, there's more people that. That don't understand than they are that do. And all they do is. You know, nowadays people just take your, exploit it, pull it out, out, Use one sound bite, use one sentence, whatever, and try to draw you out to be whatever they want you to be. So don't give them the ammunition.
B
You're right.
C
It's okay. It's okay to not talk.
B
That's what the I be trying to say. I knew I told you we needed a vacation. We needed to not come in here and talk.
A
It's hard to not talk.
B
But, Sean, honestly, though, Listen, listen, And. And we didn't call you with the expectation of you dropping this gym on us. But honestly, honestly, that. That transfer of information from one OG to the next is imperative for this mission to continue. So you're absolutely right in what you're saying. And I need to hear from people like you that have gone through the battle much before me. People like. I don't name names, but we know the vibes.
C
You have no idea how bad I wanted to call you after you got. You went on that joint. I was like, yo, I wish you
B
can call me Sean. And.
C
And I hit Rory up and I was like, yo, you know, I said a few things or whatever, because, you
B
know, never call Rory. Call me.
C
I'll get your info from Rory, man. But the thing is, man, I would just love for us to. There's some. I just don't want to say on
B
air, but we'll talk off air.
C
I would love to. I would love to talk to you on a. On a hump, on a humble. And just like. Like, we all just sit around and talk. I don't know if y'.
B
All.
C
You guys are flying around anywhere or whatever, but whenever y' all in la, whenever you're in la, hit me up.
B
I'm in Malibu Soon. I'm in. Malibu's on me.
C
Yeah, we'll go to Novu. Or Malibu.
B
I'm not gonna let you pay for dinner, Sean. I'm gonna pay.
C
No, it's. It's. It's okay.
B
I know, but I'm gonna get up and go to the bathroom and take care of check, and nobody's gonna know. That's just my thing. Listen, I have two questions for you. You, before I let you get out of here.
C
Oh, okay.
B
One. Boys to men versus. Come on, come on, come on. Is you laughing at, you know, the vibes? Hey, I bought. Hey, I bought. I Bought y' all greatest hits the other day and was like, oh, this is two. Oh, this too. Oh, this too. Y' all got them.
C
Well, well, let me. Let me ask you a question.
B
Who, Who.
C
Who would you want, Sean? Boys to Men to do a versus with?
B
It's only one group. Who do you think?
C
Think what y' all think.
B
Jodeci se showing. Okay, you think I don't like that. Okay. I don't like that. Okay. I don't like that. Okay.
C
No, no, Joe, the thing, the thing.
B
I know that Boys to Men feels like they're above the Jodecy class.
A
I was gonna say.
C
No, no, no, Joe, don't do that. Don't do that to me on that.
B
That's what mass media told me when I was young. Go. Go ahead.
C
First off, New Edition.
E
New Edition.
B
New Edition.
C
Well, new. We. We would never do New Edition because it would be too unfair.
E
I know.
B
They're.
C
They're three artists in one group. They're like Voltron. It's like, you know, they play. They can play Johnny stuff. Ralph stuff. BBD stuff.
B
So you scared a New Edition.
C
No, I'm not.
B
Hey, hey, Ralph going to get into his solo that we could win against.
E
Got some souls.
B
I'm joking. I'm joking.
C
I'm not saying that we wouldn't put up a good fight, but let's be honest. They. They. They got 10 years ahead of us. They got hits. I mean, our. Our group name is named after one of their songs.
B
I know y' all their sons.
C
It wouldn't even make any sense. And plus, we look at them as our big brothers. But Joe. But Jodeci, here's my thing about versus Joseph, Joe, like, and it. First off, Swiss and Tim has done an amazing job. I think it's a great thing. But to me personally, it just has to be more. If me and my guys would be involved, which means once people play the records, that's it. People move on.
B
No, the streams go up, Sean.
C
Yeah, the streams go up, and that's okay. But there's gotta be more words. Like, I'm looking at it from a standpoint of. Of. Okay, what am I selling people outside of songs that people don't, you know, already know, and giving people a little hint of nostalgia, that's fine. But we live in the now. And if you have any audience, over a million million people looking at you, you gotta sell something other than the songs that people already know.
B
I understand.
C
So, you know, so that's my. My view on it. It's great. It's fun.
B
1.
C
I watched them all. I think it's wonderful.
B
But I watched them all. Yo, this yo show, man. Yeah, that's.
D
That sarcastic. That's sarcastic like. But I'm not with that.
B
Hey, no, I heard him. When I said jealousy, said, okay.
D
Yeah, okay.
B
Hey, Sean, my final question is this. I have not taken Usher's new record, Bad Habit, off of repeat since it was. Was released.
C
I love that song. I love that record. I love that record.
B
I love that record. I love the mix even more. I know you were working with Usher. You were in the studio at least. Did you have a hand in this Bad Habits record at all?
C
I wish I did, but. But you know Usher. Usher's the type. Like, Usher's funny.
B
He'll.
C
He'll. He'll call me, right, and say, hey, man, just come by the studios, hang out, and I'll be in the studio. And we don't play not one record. We're just talking for hours, and then it gets late and I get sleepy, and then I just go home. So
D
that's a great session.
C
So it's one of those things where it's like, you know, Usher's a friend. I've known him for many, many, many, many years. And, you know, I would love to do something with him. It's just never really come up. And if it has, there's always other things that we end up talking about besides music.
E
But.
C
But it. It would be great to do something with us. That's my guy. I love him.
B
Got it, Got it. Listen, I'm gonna get your number from. From Rory and me, and you are going to finish talking off air about a few things.
C
Yeah, Joe. Yeah. We gotta talk, bro. We gotta talk.
B
Like, you know, I can tell you think I'm crazy. I can hear it.
C
And let me, like, pause. I got emotionally involved with you, you know what I'm saying? In a sense where the show itself, it not only makes me laugh, but again, all of you guys are so fucking smart. Like, y' all so intelligent when it comes to the music business and things of that nature. I mean. And I appreciate what you do and actually putting your nuts out there, you know what I'm saying? And to be ridiculed, like, that's a brave thing to do do.
B
And Sean must have heard my Motown Philly sleeper the other day. Sean. Sean heard me play Motown Philly the other day. He had to. I don't know, man. Yo, Sean. No, thank you, thank you. I appreciate you. I'll let them talk to you. On their own.
D
Yes. Sean. Thank you, man.
E
Thank you.
C
Yo, you guys have a great vacation. God bless y', all, man. And I can't wait to. To listen to the new vibes.
B
Thank you back. Thank you, Sean, love. Appreciate you.
C
All right, y'.
B
All.
C
Peace.
E
Peace.
B
All right. All right. It's unnatural, huh? Why none of y' all being one yet?
D
You went crazy just now, huh? That's your.
B
Who can we call Next? Next. It's the podcast hotline, baby. Call someone. Sean was long winded today. I didn't. My demo was ass. Y' all want me call Drake? Yeah, why not? We have not spoken about Kanye's contract or. It went in hour four.
A
That's why we're gonna call Drake.
D
We're giving him. We giving him. This is the telethon right here.
B
I know. I hear you.
D
I'm calling in. They calling in.
B
I know. Watching game two. Put it on tv, actually, no, no, no, no.
A
I just saw Kanye just posted that he's with Biggs right now. Maybe Ma would call his older brother.
E
Yeah, I saw him with the ASR there.
D
Would never call Kanye. I'm call somebody else.
A
I said call your brother.
B
I thought you say
A
call Kanye.
B
I would never call my brother when he Kanye.
D
Kd, what's up? It's Ma from the Joe Button podcast.
B
Ass.
G
What's up, bro?
D
What's up with you? How you feeling, man?
G
Solid, man. Chilling.
B
We.
D
We thought you was coming by to with us today, man. You got caught out in la, huh?
G
I know. I had. Yeah. I had to stay out here. We working out and our team out here and.
D
Oh, okay, okay.
B
The Drew League and all that, huh?
G
Yeah, you know, a little something.
B
We out here.
G
I hold the Nets out here working out, so I had to stay.
D
Oh, okay.
B
The Nets is working out in la.
E
The LA Nets?
G
Yeah. A few of us, like. Like four or five of us out here, so I ain't want to be the only one, you know what I mean?
B
Kd, how you doing, man?
G
I'm good, man. Chilling, bro.
D
How you feeling? How's the rehab going?
G
It's solid. I'm in the. I'm in the stage now where we just hooping every day, you know, So I feel good, ready for this next season to get back.
D
So you back, you back? Full five on five, full contact, everything.
G
Yeah, yeah, I'm doing. I'm doing. Yeah, we play four on four, five on five. You know, I'm working out every day. I feel like. I feel like my. Myself like a player. I got a Long ways to go, though.
D
That's what's up, man.
B
Kd, I'll be honest with you, man. I'm gonna ask the real questions, man. I got one for you. Please do I. During these playoffs, you know what I miss? I missed you on these from your burner accounts. Yo, yo, don't you let these NBA analyst dudes tell you that there's something wrong with that. It's a bunch of flagrant in the NBA and we need the best players in the world to make a fake account and say these.
G
Like what though? What you mean?
B
Listen, Greek freak.
D
Again. Yeah, I'm cool.
G
Like that selection.
B
No, no, I didn't like that selection.
D
No, I don't think.
B
I didn't like that selection.
D
Wasn't with that.
B
Cuz you know why? I'll tell you why. For me, I'm. I'm. I'm jaded. By some of the rules of the NBA, I know the MVP is a regular season award. And by that metric you should award Greek freak. The problem is, is y' all don't decide it till I've seen some of the playoffs. Like I felt it. Didn't Dirk win mvp?
D
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
B
That year. That. But what year?
D
No, Dirk deserved it that year.
G
Seven, I think. Oh, yeah. 07, I think.
B
But it was another year. He deserved it with the playoff play and he didn't get it. I just. I'm not with the. The regular season award. If you fizzle out in the playoffs and I watch that and I don't want to rub you the wrong way, I don't know where you and LeBron stand. I think LeBron should have won MVP.
G
Yeah. I mean, you. The criteria is the regular season, but I understand. I feel the same way you feel. I think they should evaluate the whole season, playoffs included. Yeah, if you include the playoffs, then Brian is easily the mvp. But I see why with the. With the rules now, why Giannis was an mvp.
D
I disagree with that.
G
His numbers was crazy.
D
I disagree with. I mean, if we. Braun might be arguably MVP every year, him and KD, if KD's healthy. But I think this year I think Chris Paul should have got more respect.
B
Come on. I'm not doing.
D
I'm.
B
Hey, kd. Look, kd, by the way,
D
A 2% chance of making the playoffs.
B
Don't talk over Kevin Durant.
G
Come on, M. He got all. He made the all star team. He was second team all NBA. That's. That's his thing. He not the mvp.
B
Come on.
G
He wouldn't even say that.
D
But listen, what I'm saying. They gave them a 2% chance to make the playoffs.
B
Who is they? Everybody.
D
Every sports platform in the.
A
In America, in the NBA world. Does anybody take M sports opinion seriously?
D
Yeah, some of them do.
A
Does anyone in y' all world take M's opinion seriously when it comes to sports? Sports?
G
Probably not.
B
Yeah. No.
D
Hey, Katie, that's.
B
Hey, Katie.
D
That's up, man. That's up.
G
I respect your point of view, Ma. You know, I respect your point of view, but sometimes you may be a little off.
D
Okay, kd, I respect that.
B
Kd, I got some more real for, you know. You know what else I like? Yeah, I like. You getting that. Perkins. Kendrick Perkins. I like it.
D
Yeah, I respect that.
B
I like it. Don't get on tv just talking about.
G
Yeah, I mean. Yeah, you know, know, he. He tiptoed a line. You know, sometimes you think he was a former player and then sometimes you think he's just been in the media his whole career. So, yeah, I wanna, sometimes I want to give him a little, you know, taste of reality. Like, bro, you played in this league with us, you know, you know what we go through, Bro, stop acting like you don't.
B
Can you tell me, can you tell me? Because I'm always interested in that part actually, like, and I go through that as a rapper that has gotten to media now, right? Like, some of the rappers look at me and they like, fam. Like, you know what time it is. Like, so you playing the media side a little too hard when y' all see these, the, the. The retired and former players, something that you may have had a relationship with up there, giving an opinion. Do you feel like they should ride more on the player side or do. Or do you respect somewhat of the new gig?
G
I feel, I feel like I respect the new gig and I understand that they can't be totally biased, you know, but at the same time, I would like for you to give a. A real in depth perspective of what we go through mentally. Especially. Especially if you're talking about situations that you've been through. Like, you should really get it real instead of with the narratives, you know what I'm saying? So I think dudes could be a little bit more honest about their experiences in the league. More fans understand that that way.
B
Got it.
E
Okay. Who can beat you one on one in the NBA?
G
I mean, all of these. I mean, it depends on how we playing, man. What's the, what's the game?
D
Game?
G
If we just one game, if we playing a series of games, I'm sure dudes can get me in the game. Seriously.
B
That means nobody. Yeah,
G
some dudes can get me, man. I ain't gonna say I'm by far the best.
B
Can you stop? Can you leave the Knicks alone? Like, what do you mean?
G
I keep saying this both to me. For a whole year, I was trying to just chill and play and worry about my season.
B
We wanted you fans and all these media. Mixed media. I don't know if you heard us.
G
Yeah, but when it's my time to talk about it, I gotta shut up.
B
Now. You went. Yeah, but you went to the Nets and now you're doing interviews. Yo, man, I never was with the Nets.
G
Y' all been wanting to ask these questions for a year now that I'm available is the problem.
B
Yeah, but don't say it to Ebro.
A
And we're not in the front office.
B
Hey, I got another real question for you. Ready, ready, ready, ready, ready. It's my last episode. I'm firing hot. There has been. There have been rumors about you picking the Nets coach Steve Nash and Kyrie not really feeling your decision making. What do you say to that, kd?
G
First off, I didn't pick the next coach. We gotta. We got people in place that do that. I just supported it and. Nah, me and Kyrie always on the same page. She's just a Hooper. It don't matter.
B
Okay.
D
I respect it. Yo, so, Kate, let's talk about your 35 Ventures production company, man. What's going on with that and why
B
you ain't holl at us yet?
G
Going on. You battling some other man, so I'm gonna let you figure that out.
B
You caught. You caught that blind.
D
You battling some other.
B
Ain't with you. No, but tell us about it, man.
G
You know, just try to create content, man. Around stuff I like, man. Put. You know, I think you're real good at it. Obviously, the NBA platform is huge, so I'm trying to leverage that and try to tell stories.
D
And you got a podcast coming, right?
G
Yeah, yeah, Just talking our. Talking. Talking our shit, you know. Got it coming in a couple weeks. Hopefully it take off, but, you know, just. Just having regular conversation.
D
Who you doing it with?
G
My boy Eddie. Eddie Gonzalez. Just actually this dude I met off one of my burner accounts, actually, That I liked and I respected. I was like, hey, I like. I like what you got.
B
That's hard. That's actually really great.
E
That's dope.
B
I like this current state that we're in where, you know, they used to try to make it seem like If a basketball player was focused on anything outside of basketball, basketball, that he was a failure. And today, with. With your different ventures, with LeBron's different ventures, with the retired. I love what Jack and Matt Barnes are doing. Like. Like, now it seems like if you do it right, y' all are unearthing a whole world of not only content, but economy.
G
Most definitely. But I always feel like you have to establish yourself inside the sport first before you start to venture out. And, you know, obviously the platform in the NBA, you know, we play on TV all the time. So if you produce and you'll sport, you know, other stuff start to come over time. So you look at Brian, I mean, it just didn't happen out of nowhere. He built this up. And same with me. So, you know, I think you grind in that. You grind in your, you know, your sport first and see what happens.
B
How did you feel when you saw the Clippers? Mainly Pat Beverly, and I think that was the Morris 20 when. Or maybe Paul George on the sideline when they were laughing at Damian Lillard and waving goodbye to him.
G
When that. When that happened, I. I felt like they was focusing too much on the end. The end goal. You know what I'm saying? And. And it was too early to be thinking about that. So you looking at Damian Lillard, you expecting them to get put out because they fighting for a playoff spot, and you just clowning them. It's like, I ain't won yet, so. But I understand what y' all was doing. Y' all feel comfortable, confident. But to see him lose like that, it was. It was definitely shocking.
B
Yeah.
D
Because, Katie, you had them winning this year too, right?
C
Yeah.
G
I mean, they had the most talent. They was the deepest team.
B
I'll knock it off in the. In the NBA. Knock it off top to bottom. Stop it.
G
They not. They were.
D
They were on rock. On paper. I just said that earlier.
B
They were. But on paper is not all you need.
D
Chemistry.
B
I get it.
D
I get it.
B
And you hear them now, right? Talking about, yo, we didn't have enough time together, so forth. And so kd, just so you know, I think Kawhi, it hates Paul George.
G
I don't think so. I don't think so. I don't think so. The Clippers weren't on the same page on defense all series. That's where they lost.
B
Would they have been on the same page if Paul George shot better from the three? You ain't got to answer that. Don't worry about it. Don't worry. Don't worry about it. Hey, don't even worry about it. Listen, how do you feel about. How do you feel actually, before I get to the Nets, because I do have a few more questions before I let you go. Yep. I'll ask you what I've been asking my various group chats and I'll ask you differently. Give me. Give me, in your opinion, the difference in styles between Brad Stevens, Eric Spra and Nick Nurse. I won't ask you to rank them because that. That might hit Sports center, but just give me the. The differences in facing them as an opponent. Maybe.
G
To be honest, the difference isn't just in the players that they have. I think they both. All three of those coaches make great defensive adjustments and they allow their players freedom. That's what makes them great coaches. But the difference is like, Jimmy Butler, Jason Tatum versus Fair Van Fleet, Kyle Lowry. Like, it's just a talent difference in both of those. In all three of those coaches. But I think they all three. They all the top this. The top five coaches in the league, if you want to rank. But you know, they. This is differences only in their players.
B
Y' all like, kd, man, it was going to hurt me if I had to come looking for you with them baby mama rumors, man.
G
Yo, why you. Yo, what was up with that, though?
B
I don't know, nigga. I was going to ask you, like,
G
why, like, what was up with that, though?
B
Why was.
G
Why was you upset?
B
Wait, what are you saying? What you saying, baby?
G
No, like, why was you upset about that, cuz? I heard you was in your feelings about.
B
No, that's not true. See, you listen to your teammates.
D
You listening to your teammates tell him that.
B
Listen to D. You went on.
G
You went on a podcast somewhere and said, my girl, my ex girlfriend said something. So I'm like, what is it?
E
Was this podcast here.
B
It was this pod, but I could
A
only be this one.
B
I wasn't talking about you, though. I knew that was the rumor game. Right? All right, all right.
G
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
That's mere campaign, right?
B
Listen, don't do that, man. It's a joke. It's a joke. Don't pay. Hey, don't pay me to be sensitive. Sally, Katie, don't do that. Yo, what do you think about dudes trying to the COVID testing girl in the bubble.
G
Yo, you've been in a bubble away from some action for three months. I mean,
B
yeah, I get it.
D
That was the thing going in. Everybody was doing. That was like the first thing people were talking about. Like, yo, so they can have no, like, women Friends coming, right? Yeah.
G
And I heard there was no females at all outside of that. It was like the Maids. All men. Like, everybody. It was just nothing but men around. So after a couple months, you down three one. Nah, you down three one.
B
This is over with. He said, I don't give a fuck no more, man. Yo, you know how I view the league today? Honestly, now that you said that, like, some of the. More. Some of the grown players that have been around a little bit, I see them focused on maybe getting some ass when time gets hard. The younger generation, I see them just locking in on the Fortnite.
G
Nah, bro, they still. Man, at the end of the day, they want some action, too, but they are on the Fortnite as well.
B
You're not worried about Carl Town's one action? Shut up.
G
Why you just point out Carl Town?
B
Cuz, he's. Cuz he's an avid Fortniter, that's why. Like, some of the younger players that will tell you, yo, I'm on this video game all night, but it's fine. It's fine. What else we got? What? Hey, you and Draymond, y' all good?
G
Of course.
B
No, that's not.
D
No, I think they good. If Draymond and Charles is good, I think Draymond and Katie got to be good.
B
They should be good.
D
Yeah.
B
Yeah. Black Kings can't beef kd.
G
Yeah, there's no.
B
Come on.
G
Basketball players beefing over what?
B
Yeah. Yeah.
D
Yo, so how you feel about next season, man, with the Nets? What y' all gonna do?
B
Gonna go crazy. I mean, what you gonna do? I don't know.
G
We gonna see.
D
Y' all got a good team, though. Yo, are y' all keeping all Jamal next year? Crawford?
G
That's a good question.
B
I don't know. What with your CO sign, I would
G
love to have him on.
D
He was one. He was one of the players that I was definitely looking forward to in the bubble, like, with his style of play.
A
Me, too.
D
Yeah, his. His style of play. His style of play. I was definitely looking forward to playing.
G
What about 41? Still doing it.
D
Yeah, 42. And then the last time we saw him before the. The game where he hurt his. Hurt his hamstring, he had 50 with the. With the Suns.
G
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
He was cooking young handles. Yeah.
D
Y' all definitely should keep him. Y' all should keep him next season.
B
My. My final question. Who's your pick to win this thing?
G
Lakers.
D
Yeah, same.
B
Lakers versus Versus who?
G
I mean, you gotta. I mean, Miami's up, too, bro. Get the brooms out on Pixar. I'm not lost anyway, so.
D
Oh, you're the same boat as me. Don't worry about it. I go Lakers, Miami, Lakers, Miami. That's interesting.
B
With Lakers and six.
G
Yeah, say six.
B
Can we double date?
G
You think the Lakers, too?
B
No. Well, yeah.
G
Damn.
B
I like Miami. I'll be honest. I like Miami, but I know the league is going to let LeBron win his fourth, but I like Miami.
G
Some trouble. Miami could give him some trouble.
B
And I have. I have Denver giving them more trouble than everybody else does, too, by the way. I don't have them winning it all, but I could see it ending in six there. I could see the Lakers beating Miami in six, two.
G
I could see that, too.
D
Katie, honestly. Honestly, 20 years from now, all of the champions are sitting at a table and somebody throws the. The.
B
The.
D
The bubble ring on the table. Do y' all respect. Respect that?
G
Yeah, of course. You still had to play against these dudes you're still gonna have to play against.
D
But y', all, you're gonna laugh at it a little bit, though.
G
Nah, I mean, that's just the circumstances, dog. It's just. It's just. I mean, they are just what it is right now. I think it's gonna be respected for sure. Probably more respected, actually.
D
I. I'm on that, too now. Like, at first, I was, like. It was kind of, like, iffy, but now thinking about the circumstances and everything, I'm like, this. This ring should definitely be respected.
B
Hell, yeah.
G
It's tough for them boys in there, man. They've been a. Away from everybody for that long. Be the last one standing. That's gonna be tough.
D
Yeah, I respect it. I definitely respect it. Well, definitely. Next time you in the city, man, come by, man. Come. Come by the studio. Come kick it with us, man.
G
For sure, man. Appreciate it. Fellas, me on.
B
Before I let you go, I gotta say, man, when. When you asked everybody if they knew who you were and then went out there and showed them. I got. Listen, man, you know what? He can have her.
D
This is sick right here. Yo, Katie, I'm gonna hit you, man.
B
I'm gonna hit you later on. We love you. Thank you for calling, man. We appreciate you. Get better soon.
C
I appreciate it, fellas.
B
All right, bro.
C
Peace, bro.
A
Peace. Yo, you are sick, kd.
B
So smooth.
A
You are sick.
B
That was awesome.
D
Yeah, he's good.
B
I feel like we got to call reason now. We got to bring it back down.
G
Vince.
B
So we gotta call Vince.
E
As we gotta call Vince. Gotta call.
D
Oh, man.
B
All Right. Let's try to give Vince a call on his new number, see if he answers for us. KD sound like he gonna come back and average 60. I'll be honest with y'. All. It sound like he going to go crazy.
G
Hello?
B
Hello? You seen my name pop up on the phone? God damn it. This is Joe Button from the Joe Button podcast. We're looking for Vince Staples.
C
What's the deal?
B

E
Yeah, so.
A
So you'd rather the Adidas than. Than your contract?
C
Hey, look, bro, my contract, I ain't
B

A
I'm aware, Vince.
B
You could just say that, man. You'll still be in the game. Say, yeah, I'm rich.
C
No, I ain't doing this that much longer. I got, like, one or two more now. I'm go do some other. Maybe one, maybe two.
B
How can I set up a meeting on the weekends? How can I set up a meeting with you and attempt to develop some confidence? Content.
C
What kind of content you got? I got, like, foso right now. What you need? I got them all day.

We'll have to come up with one, Vince.
A
He's trying to own your platform.

C
Yeah, make sure y' all get them same sponsors that they got on espn, because them be talking about minivans and all birds and all kind of other stuff. I know they getting paid. Y' all gonna fight one day, and I know Park's gonna win, but I still want y' all gotta get along, man. Y' all need to stop, you know, being this grown up with each other, man. Y' all a team. It's all teamwork. Pass the ball. You see what happens to the Clippers, man? You gotta be pass the ball.
E
That's a good point. That's a good point.
D
Thank you, Vince, for that.
B
Vince. That's exactly why we called, man. This is why, man, be open in the corner.
C
M be open in the corner. And Parson having to post up and you and Roy just dribbling so

A
Offered you your fee. You said no because you're a great guy.
B
Gotta watch these white boys, Vince. You feel me? You feel me?
C
What that gotta do with the points, Joe, buddy?
B
Nothing.
A
Offer to book the session.
B
Ownership pay Vincenzo what he's worth. White Rory talking about a feet sound like Spotify. Yes, Best Buy. All right,
A
Mall. I was thinking about, like, rebranding for myself and maybe using the first. First metal emoji, first place medals.
B
Pop some. Whoa. We pop champagne, huh? Huh? Yeah, I mean, pop a little aies. Pop a little aies for us, man. We earned this.
D
Mr. Martini and Rossy.
E
That's it.
B
Yeah. Come on, they know the vibes.
E
Come on, man.
D
Park you a black bottle, boy.
E
It's a green bottle, okay?
A
Hunter green, to be specific.
D
Thought that was. Oh, it's not Heineken green?
E
No, it's darker.
A
Y hek is not hunter green.
D
Hunter, you know, your greens are more
E
of a far scream.
A
You never looked into my eyes, Rory.
D
I have never looked at. I don't even want to look at you right now.
A
No, look at me. They're green.
D
No, I don't want to look at you, Rory.
E
Now look at me.
A
And I.
B
Will always love you. I will. Love from the bottom of our hearts. Huh?
E
You don't want to cry when this comes on, cuz. I do a little bit.
B
Rest in peace. To Whitney. By the way, thank you. Rest in peace, everybody. We lost Nipy, Mac, Miller, Pop, Smoke, Juice, World, Triple X, Fred the godson. So much has happened. None of that. Yeah, none of that is lost on me, man. We love y'. All. We pod with the energy of y' all all watching over us, looking over us. Thank y', all, man. Small ain't gonna hit the riff. Don't worry about. Don't worry about it. Let me see you hit the Jasmine Sullivan Challenge right now.
A
Harlem told me you had the runs.
E
Yeah, yo.
A
Hey, yo, is Duran. Ao Sounds like it's like Diarrhea Joke.
B
Can't get the run m. Can't get too vulnerable with a chick, cuz I look at him different.
D
Why?
B
Why would you. Because this cool that you've done like I believe it.
E
What cool have I done?
D
What the.
B
Out of here. You keep trying to paint me.
D
Me?
A
Yeah, you.
B
Is it only me you think?
D
Only you. And you know me in real life. So it's like, you know, I'm not sitting up here, like, pretending it don't matter.
B
You don't think. You don't think Parks and Rory drive that home, too.
D
Only because you try To. You created that.
B
I influenced them, and they are yes men to me.
D
I'm just saying, like, you started that narrative. That's what it was. You started that.
B
Shut the. Oh, all right, all right, Maul, come on. What did you do with college dropout masters? I didn't do anything.
A
Talk.
B
We 90. We 90 minutes in here. Oh, no. We're 129 minutes in. And let's talk about all this Kanye's got going on, man. What are your thoughts? What do you think? This has been going on since our last pod. Kanye has been on a war path. I can't tell you but so much about the war path because he's at a different level in the fight. He's fighting with people that. People that maybe I wouldn't square up with. Spotify. Spotify. I'm down to. I'm down to duke it out with
E
Rick compared to the Nazis.
B
Sorry, E. I can do this with you. Kanye is talking about whose names I can't pronounce.
E
Adidas was literally Nazis, so. Yeah.
B
Damn, look what you're giving them. Were they.
A
They were literally Nazis.
E
Adidas and Puma both were companies founded by Nazis. Absolutely.
D
Wow.
B
Finally, finally, finally some real. On his pod. We could talk about all that.
D
Explained your Pumas every week, buddy.
B
Finally, we. We can talk about all the neo Nazis that were hired after World War II and just transplanted in different parts of America. Yes. Substance. What do you think about that, Rory?
A
Like, they found out.
B
I don't even know if I should laugh at this. I'm shutting up.
A
I thought my shaved head would give it away.
B
It's never really shaved, right? It's like, not really a shaved.
D
No, he's not going.
E
It's like a five o' clock shave.
B
It's like a white suit.
D
The green.
B
It's a white Caesar.
D
It's the one that goes to green.
A
It is a white Caesar.
B
It's a white Caesar.
A
It's a two to one and a half. One and a half to a one, depending on the day.
B
Yeah. Mall. Stop trying to deflect, man. Kanye walk us through it as someone
A
that told Damon Jay, like, nah, he could rap too. Like, come on.
B
Nah, give him a shot. Yeah.
E
Mo really went to bat for. For.
A
Yay.
B
Don't just take. Don't just take the beats from him, right?
D
No, I mean, listen, man.
E
Anything about Miracle Whips, he got this
B
one joint through the wire. Oh, man.
A
You guys like mayonnaise, right?
B
Come on. Dame.
A
And you like Mercedes Benzes, right?
C
Right.
A
And we call It a whip.
D
I mean, I like what Kanye's been on the last few days. We spoke about it last pod. It doesn't seem like this is just an egotistical about him type of thing. He seems like he's just trying to change the narrative. The, you know, for. For all artists, all creators. He's trying to. He's just trying to change what system has already been in place for you is. And I like it. The pissing on the Grammy thing was a little far for me.
E
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
D
Because you have to actually go out of your way to put a Grammy in the toilet and piss on it
E
and then remove it from the toilet.
D
You know, he definitely removed it. That's not still in the toilet, but it's just like.
A
And just imagine sitting there drinking water. Like. Hold on. Give. Give me one second.
D
Yeah. Almost done. Yeah. That was just a little weird.
E
But timing out the piss.
D
I understand the. The messaging behind it, and I like it. I like what. What. What he's doing. This is. To me, this is probably the best Kanye rant that we've. We've gotten because it's not just about him. It seems like it's about all artists that he's trying to fight for and all artist rights. So I respect that. I got to respect it.
A
I love it. I'd like to see what the action plan is because he's asking something that is to some degree insane when it comes to these things, types of deals.
E
What's the ask the.
A
For the masters just to give every artist their masters back. Like, I'm with Yay. All the way on. On everything that he's saying. I love what he's saying. I'm with all this. I would just love to know what the action plan. Showing me a text message to talk to them. Which is great because even talking to these people, I didn't even know they had phones like these people. I had no idea you could really text these people.
D
But that was part of Kanye's thing was that we don't even know the. These people yet. They own more of my than I do.
A
I've heard none of these names in my entire life.
E
How do you feel about the hypocrisy that he has a record label where he has signed people to similar deals?
A
Yeah, I was going to get to that. Yeah. I. I'd like him to talk about that part as well. Your joint venture with. With Universal and Def Jam, you. You signed a. A good. Maybe what, six or seven artists within that time?
E
Yeah.
A
He may have not known the deals that he was giving to them. I'm never mad at someone finding some information out and changing things, but.
E
Joe, do you have something to say? A lot of eyes.
D
Yeah. What happened?
B
Nothing.
D
What was said? I was, I missed it.
E
Oh, nothing was said. He's just making some facial implications and
B
nothing will be said. I'm not saying anything. Everyone say whatever they want to say.
E
Gotcha.
B
About.
D
About this.
B
Yeah. Okay.
E
I will give.
B
Let me challenge Rory a little bit. I'll push back a little bit. Just a little.
A
You've been shitting on me. All podcasts.
B
I love you more than them.
A
No, I'm here to debate. I've been quiet most of this pod.
B
I love you more than them. No, hear me when I say it.
E
More than who?
D
Hear me when I say y'.
B
All.
E
We love Rory.
B
Rory, do you in your heart of hearts, wholeheartedly believe, Believe that Kanye west is unaware of the deals he may have offered other artists?
A
Yes.
B
Okay. What do you think that says to.
A
I absolutely think Kanye west did not know the deal.
B
What do you think that says? Well, what do you think that says? If you believe that?
A
I think Kanye is telling us right now he had no idea of his own deal, let alone what he was giving to other people. And that doesn't justify anything.
B
Okay.
A
At all.
B
All.
A
I think Kanye. I, I'm can only assume because we don't talk about other people's business on this podcast, despite the narrative that everyone in the media is trying to say about Mall and I, I know what a joint venture deal looks like for an artist signing to a joint venture, usually 99.9% of the time.
E
It's really with the.
A
So, So I, I, I kind of know what that deal is that the good music family got.
B
Yeah.
A
I don't think Kanye looked at that and even batted an eye. I think he just went about his business and said, I love this artist. Let's sign them. I'll make sure their pops.
G
Right.
A
Yeah. I don't think Kanye sat in any meeting and looked over a contract with
B
them or at the time Kanye's attorneys alerted him to what the contracts may have stated. Did.
A
Do you think in a joint venture when you sign one, that the contracts that they put out to an artist change very much.
B
I think that if I'm the head of the joint venture, I'm aware of what those contracts say and mean.
E
Maybe yes, maybe no.
A
Yeah, I don't know about all that. I think you sounds good. That sounds. You would.
E
I'm not sure that everyone does I
A
don't even know if Joe and his full artistry mode, not Joe business mode, would say that either.
B
Joe in full artistry mode didn't know
A
the business, and who's to say Kanye did?
B
Me.
A
You spoke to him?
B
No, but if you're asking my opinion, I do not think that he signed people into deals without knowing the construct of it. I don't believe that.
A
Why.
E
But maybe not the details.
B
That's what I'm saying. And it's to the point that you just made. Ain't. Ain't too much changing about the jv.
A
Yeah, Nothing at all.
B
So I think that that was explained to him at some point, and I think he was aware at some point. It's a.
A
It's a. Even bust down when I was telling y' all the JV deals are not
B
that crazy when I was telling y', all, but I see how they could potentially get crazy if I'm signing one after I have already sold tons of millions of records.
A
No, it doesn't change to the artist you're signing. It may change to what your cut. Your cut is.
B
Yeah, that's what I mean. That's what I mean. You and your cut. When I was talking about.
A
No, let me just say this real quick.
B
When I was talking about. And you can refute. When I was saying I wanted to look at Kanye's contracts, I never meant his personal contracts. I never meant his artist contracts with Universal.
E
Universal, Right.
B
I kind of always meant good got you. Like, I'm not interested in what Kanye is doing as an artist. I'm interested in what he's doing as a CEO and businessman, like, with his business. With your artist. I see you can. You can give yourself away and realize where. Where and when you may be getting, and that's a chance that you may be willing to take because your talent level is so immense. Right. But when you start talking about other artists that you're not working with, what your talent level will produce or not produce, it tells me a little more. So for me, I want to make myself clear that I agree with everything that Kanye is saying. It's some of the stuff that I've echoed for years. On top of years. On top of years. I came in here last podcast and took. Told y' all that. Me personally, I. I choose to shut the up when someone more in informed on a different level is having the fight. Which led me. Which led me in my head to. And I had fun with this over the weekend. Who do you shut up for? I think it's Important that everybody answer that question in their head. Because when, when. When I said that last podcast and I was listening back, I was like, man, that's interesting. I don't shut up for too many people, but when you see someone who is at a different level of the fight, fighting a different level of the fight, you should shut up. But who you shut up for varies.
D
Yeah.
B
Some people shut up when the rich person is talking. Right. For me, I shut up when probably the more experienced or intelligent person is talking.
D
Talking.
B
Some people shut up when the more powerful person is talking. Like, some people shut up. It's different. It varies for everybody.
E
Yeah.
B
So for me, I choose to shut up because he's fighting a fight that we all should fight. And I don't question that part. But I would be remiss to say that I don't question the why and the win of it. Right. For me, at this level of success, you're aware of what's coming before it hits. Yeah. So you're able to acquiesce. Acquiesce in a way where it's basically insider trading. I know what's coming, and I know how what's coming can affect me, so I can attempt to fight against it. Right, Right. I think Kanye should have his masters. I agree. But I also love people a lot more than they love themselves. And I also am plagued by valuing people sometimes a lot higher than they value themselves.
E
Okay.
B
Which means I'm probably willing to fight a fight that some people aren't willing to fight for themselves. So when Kanye leaked this contract, and this goes back to our age old conversation here about what's the conversation that we have all the time here? Hey, are the older executives artists, or are artists complicit in it? Because depending on what side of the fence that lands on. Depends on what my response will be.
G
Right.
B
I came on here and said, Spotify. You know why? Because in two years, I've seen enough. I'm done. That's not a bridge. I want to go back down. I see what they're doing. I know what they're doing. It's like, obviously, apparently parent what they're doing.
G
Right?
B
And I'm good with that. I'm cool right now. If I resign with Spotify, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 times, knowing that they're doing the. And then at time 10, I come and say, wait a minute is up. They're liable to say all the things that they've been saying about me. They've been saying it unwarranted. Just because they don't know. And they're going to on for the last few pods. Cool. But if I were to do that, right. How could you be fully sure what side I land on? And that is where my issue is with Kanye and what he's doing. I support what he's doing. So I won't go in depth about my findings.
G
Right.
B
Because I blindly support this Control masters, the creator, your kids, generational wisdom, wealth. I got all of that. The five amendments to that contract said something different to me.
E
Okay.
B
And it made me realize that while I'm off of what Kanye is saying, I've also been in relationships and stayed in relationships where I wasn't fully sure I could trust that person.
G
Right.
B
And it just made me second guess everything. They could have been washing the dishes and I would have said, well, why are they doing that? And that's where I am personally with Kanye. Yeah. I think if you're gonna fight, let me get all my thoughts out real quick before I forget more. If you are going to fight the good fight, no pun intended, then fight it all the way around. Like, my fight is for every podcaster after me. Not selective.
G
Right.
B
My fight is even for the podcasters that I don't with necessarily, or not that I don't with, but the podcasters that don't necessarily fuck with me. Okay. This fight that he's arguing is a Kanye fight, is Kanye's contracts. They're Kanye amendments. I don't hear anything about good music, and that's bothersome to. To me. It's also bothersome to me, actually. I'm not going to say all the things that are bothersome me, because I do support this, and I'm not going to step on a black man's mission because of some idiocracies.
E
Right.
B
Did I use that right? I think I did.
A
I think so, yeah, sort of.
B
Thanks, Rory.
A
He may also not own the masters of the Good Music arts artists in a split, regardless of a joint venture. So while people can on Kanye say, well, didn't you put other artists in other shitty contracts with umg? I don't know that Kanye west owns any of the good Music masters, period.
B
And that's where I'm at. Rory, let me talk real quick. Let me talk real quick. That's where I'm at on my assumption on what's occurring. Like, for me, I own this, this, this pod. So I'm out in the universe. Barring against myself, let me say, okay, like. Like, I may go take a deal for Joe and that Deal may fund something that I own all around.
E
Okay.
B
I think, think. I think that Kanye, and looking at some of them numbers that they shared, went back to try to borrow against himself, but it's not himself cuz he don't own it.
A
Another loan, More or less.
B
Yes. Yeah, that's what I'm assuming. I don't have information people, and I'm not stepping on his mission. I don't know. I'm assuming that he went back to try to borrow against himself for some that he. He didn't own. And people looked at him and said, fam, this is what you've done for the last 10 years.
A
He used his. It's done now as collateral for another loan.
B
It's finished.
E
Refinancing your.
B
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. I think at some point somebody said, can't. You cannot refinance anymore. The well is dry. Right. And I think maybe because of that, it has spawned at least some of this.
G
Okay.
B
Maybe holistically his fight is greater than I could ever imagine because I'm not at that level. Yeah, I'm not at that level. I don't know how that goes.
G
Right.
B
But from where I sit, that's what it appears to be. I still support him in owning his masters and whatever. I mean, that's the other thing that them contracts said to me is like, damn, for all of the Kanye greatness, that's all you was giving them. I said that. I said that.
E
I didn't read that.
B
I said that. I said that as an artist that maybe didn't have a buzz at the time and knew what it was like to fight for certain budgets, certain video budgets, certain marketing budgets, certain recording budgets. But out of the artist game, when you look at it, remember last podcast, I said, God damn, you got to be Michelle Obama to get a deal over there, like, of. Of some substance, right? We're talking about Kanye fucking West, arguably the greatest discography in hip hop history. Please make no mistake about that.
G
Yeah.
B
And he was only good for 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.
A
You saw what the recording fun.
B
Whatever the fun was, whatever it was.
A
No, I say on the third, and if you know Kanye, especially at that time, how expensive Kanye west albums are because he samples out his ass.
E
Not only that, and he tells you,
B
yo, I'm going to Hawaii for the next three years to record this.
A
And not only that, specific samples that are going to be the hardest to clean.
E
I know, I know from experience, he would go to two to three mixers, all a high level. We talked about Serbin on the last podcast, I don't think he was in the mix, but guys are at that level where they're getting between five and ten grand or three and ten grand, like expensive mixes and getting like three or four guys to do a mix of one song. So multiply that times, however many songs.
A
I think he said he mixed all of the Lights over a hundred times.
E
Yeah.
A
And I think he said he still mixes the drums on Can't Tell Me Me Nothing to this day.
E
Yeah, like the. The mixing budget alone on Kanye albums is insane.
A
But I don't know if his deal. Cuz there are things in contracts where you're able to renegotiate if you meet certain marks and certain plateaus or certain whatever. So, yeah, to have on your third album for Kanye west that the minimal recording fund is $300,000 and the maximum is 650.
B
That's.
E
You're not getting.
A
You're not getting a Kanye west album done for under a million dollars from a recording fee, period.
B
No.
E
You know, the recording fee usually includes the mixing.
B
You're not getting for a million dollars. Not. Not from Hawaii.
A
Hawaii. You could do this in his crib and you not getting under a million dollars.
B
Like. I have to wonder how Tiana feels reading all this.
D
Told you he got the stems.
B
Are you kidding me? And if you know, you know. But I won't say anymore.
D
No, no, no. I understand what you're saying.
B
I have to wonder how Sahai feels. I have to wonder how. I mean, if you in that game.
A
Well, expound more on that. And I'm not saying to get in a business, but expound more.
B
Expounding gets a little bit. But I'll try, I'll try, I'll try to dance with you.
A
Cuz I think I know what you're saying.
B
The talk when Tiana's album was released. Released. I'll tell you what the talk was. The talk was what the is going on, y'? All. Like, Tiana hasn't heard her album. Tiana's at the release party and hasn't heard her album. And it's not even her release party. She's at your listening to her album for the first time. The talk was. It was short, it was rushed, it was cheap. Kanye jumped in at the last second, changed a whole bunch of. There was no promo. There was no attention to detail. There wasn't anything. And us as Tiana Taylor fans, people that say Joe doesn't big up women. Idiots. Us as Tiana Taylor fans were disappointed. Now I matched that with my understanding of a JV deal that all fell on good music, not Universal, not Def Jam.
E
Yeah.
B
And when it all falls on one place. Place. It's because that is the place that's. That's been allocated the money for it to fall on. Do y' all remember when that album came out? Do y' all hear some of the. I was saying when that album came out.
D
I remember that.
B
Do y' all remember?
E
I do.
B
And she handled that with so much grace and class. Congratulations to Teyana Taylor, who just had her baby. I would love to have Erykah Badu deliver my baby. They are black elite to me. Shout out to Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor. I love you both. You already know how I feel about y'. All. You know the vibes. But she handled that with class. Nobody ever heard a word about how she felt about her debut project. Honestly.
D
Yeah.
B
So now Kanye comes and he's telling us about all his deals and the addendums that. That have been done to it. And yeah, we with you and we feel you and we fight for you and we understand. But you have been in bed with these people. You are attacking and you have gotten certain perks, I think. I don't know, like inflated JV deals. I don't know if Kanye. I don't know nothing. But he might have got a little more money for Tiana than Tiana would have got on her own. Going to get it. Where did we see it? You didn't. That whole month you didn't see. Know what the promo was. We're dropping albums every week this month.
G
Right.
B
So some of that infiltrates my thinking with the. The mission that. Huh.
A
Which in theory wasn't a bad rollout. It just. You should have made the albums.
B
Spend the money on Tiana. If you have money for Tiana, spend the money on Tiana.
A
I agree.
E
Yeah.
B
Just like what I get from you. What you're saying here is you have generated all this money. You should never be treated that way. Because guess what, Kanye. I agree with you. But don't do what so many of our. Of our black executives have done. There's an article that Billboard just put out talking to the black executives again, saying the same thing that I've echoed here for the past year, which is a lot of our black executives have. Have inherited the system to keep. Keep our other black people down. It was just inherited. We learned it this way. We came in. This is the game. All right? I'm trying to rape you for your masters. I'm trying to rape you for your pub. I'm trying to rape you for your. So it's great that all of us are in this new place of wanting to rectify things, wanting to fix things. There's a lot of people that robbed a lot of you out there that are on the right side of the side of the page today. But you can't be there halfway way. You can't steal second base and keep your foot on first. You can't play both sides of the fence. You either. All footage over here and then doing that is holistically it. It applies to everybody. You can't be on some a fix this and don't fix that. And because of some of the erratic decision making and the erratic behavior, my only takeaway is, is, boy, am I for the cause that Kanye is fighting. But no, I don't think I can rely on him. No, I don't think reasonable. No, I don't think I can depend
D
that's reasonable on him based on past.
E
But I don't flip flop.
A
I don't think that's a Kanye thing.
B
I do.
A
Despite who it was. The fight that he's fighting is back to what I said at the beginning of the segment, an insane one in theory, to try to get every artist their masters back. Can you imagine a company like Universal or Sony, we're talking about conglomerates that control how the world moves. Is just gonna go here. Here you go.
B
Everyone stop you.
A
Some of the most profitable that we have. Here you go.
B
I want to stop you there. Like we said on the last action
A
plan, because the action plan is every artist not putting out music, period.
B
Period.
A
Yeah. All right, you. You have a way to do this.
B
Rory, for that action plan that you're talking about, organization is needed.
A
Okay, so we're saying the same thing.
B
No, we're not. Because Kanye leading with hey, Drake, Kendrick and Cole. Apologize to me so we can get this moving. Is not unification.
A
Where did I ever co sign that? I thought that was the strategy to do it. I'm saying it's not a Kanye thing. Regardless, this fight is an insane fight. I want to add that they would do do that.
E
I want to add that there's not. There is some value in the major label system, period. And there is some value in the major label system owning at least some of your masters, there should be a split. There should be a path to you owning your masters outright or deciding what to do with them, but having someone that is connected with brilliant marketing teams, expensive marketing teams and all, all the Things that labels are. Can provide.
A
The same way you do a profit split is the same way you could do a master split.
B
Check this out.
E
Labels. Owning masters outright is not always the most evil thing in the entire world. Let me interrupt.
B
Let me interrupt you.
A
Well, owning them outright is.
B
Let me interrupt you two gentlemen for two seconds. The same way that Ice Cube said to the Democrats and the Republicans, hey, this is. This is our list of demands. Honor it or else. Right? It's the same thing that Puff said to the politicians. He caught a lot of heat. This is our list of demands.
E
Yeah.
B
Honor it or else.
E
Yeah.
B
The same way the NBA players when they were threatening not coming to the bubble, y'. All. Bubble. I don't care about your playoff money.
G
Right.
B
They had a list of demands. Honor it or we're not playing. Right. Artists need that.
E
I agree 100%. 100.
B
We need a list of demands that either you honor it or there is no major label infrastructure. Because I agree with you, Parks.
E
Yeah.
B
For some of us or for some people, some creators out there, the major label system provides value. It provides support. You can get some things from it. But guess what? If y' all not gonna do what's right by all of us, injustice to one means there's no justice for any facts. And y' all are not the only ones. This is what some of our good brothers out there can tell continue to preach. Y' all are not the only ones that can implement rules and it be standard. I like the albums dropping on Tuesday. I did. If you're talking about me personally, it was y' all that got together and said, no, it has to be Friday because of whatever the release schedule in London was.
G
Right?
B
Y' all did that. Guess what? I had to roll. It was y' all that said. Said 1500 of these is one of these. Guess what? I had to roll. It was y' all that said, hey, money and music is leaving and we need 360s. As soon as one of them white people thought was standard.
G
Right.
E
As someone who puts out, it was implemented. As someone who.
B
Why we can't do that.
E
Someone who puts out music independently. I have no problem with the fact that I might make less money and have less opportunity not being on a major label. And I'm okay with that. Like, it's different for everybody. Like, I want to own my. And I will forever want to own my.
B
I don't care.
E
I don't give a. I will find other ways to make money.
B
Right? Same.
E
But it's not the same for everybody. It's not the same for everybody.
A
Well, that's why.
B
I think that's why I don't have creators and where they are in the mission. I'm sorry, Rory. Like, different creators are in different positions. Yeah. Some people are in a position where whatever the label has to offer, it would be of a great help. Some artists are in a position where, fam. I have all the leverage here, and you're going to do what I say. If not, I'm taking it somewhere else. Right. Oh, go ahead, Rory.
A
That's why I think in this Kanye fight and what he is tweeting a lot of the value. And I think what he is saying is back to your executive point, when he's bringing up these names that none of us have ever heard of ever f. Like, in our lives.
B
He in his Vivendi bag.
E
Yeah.
A
That's the point here, because we talk about these execs, you can call these exact culture vultures, and you can talk about all this. And yeah, their only goal is to make their company money, but they don't really dictate the actual system in these 360 deals, in whatever deal that is the standard. The standard is created by these people that we've never heard of. So when Kanye is doing that fight, I'm with him on that end. We need to talk to these people. When I. I was joking, but I was serious when I said I didn't even know these people had a phone. I didn't know you could text these people.
G
Right.
A
Because, yeah, you could say whoever you want down from the CEO of Universal. You're not really going to get anywhere. He's off the standard that was created by somebody you've never heard of. A ghost.
B
Yeah, but let me. Let me jump in here. Let me jump in here. Last podcast, we made a big point to point out that Kanye is no longer. Is not. Is not essentially in the music business business, first and foremost, he may be in it. Yeah.
A
It's not his main goal.
B
It's not his first, second, or third.
A
He would tell you that.
B
So Kanye can come out and say, you, Lucian, you such and such. You such and such. All of you. You, you, you, you.
G
Right?
B
He don't need y'. All.
A
No, Kanye did not.
B
I would not implore most creatives to follow behind that particular record route the same way. In my path, when other podcasters come to me and say, hey, what should I do? What can I do? What's the best route? I always feel bad because I would never advise somebody to do what I Do same thing.
E
Same going back to what I just said about me owning my own masters. And I'm okay with that. I make money doing other things. That's not for everybody. Not some people just do music. Like you might need to take that little advanced money and run with it.
B
Yeah, Like I.
E
That's okay. It's okay.
B
I have proven my value to none, to everybody that matters. And when you do that, man, is get down and lay down. This is what it is. The brick is the brick. Right, Joe? Four years ago, the brick wasn't the brick. Like, I respect the different parts of the journey. Like, we're less different than we are alike. Like, I don't look down on where anyone is, is, you know, all the people out there, there this thing going on where on the Internet where they're like, oh, you doing such and such. That can never be me. Oh, you do what such. I can never picture myself. Oh, you can. You. You can. Whatever they saying, right? Like God couldn't humble you and put you in that exact spot at that exact time.
G
Right, Right.
B
I hate the Internet. Yeah. Oh, rent voice, slow it down. I'm just saying. I hate, I hate.
D
But, but it's like you said, Joe, Kanye worked himself into a position to where he. He doesn't need them. So I think that's why this comes at this point, because he's not in a position so.
B
Because he's so powerful and, and his energy and.
A
And same way Michael was trying. Unfortunately he passed before he could really get to that.
B
But yeah, no, Prince never went and sold a sneaker like he.
A
I'm talking music wise. And the leverage that Prince had. Yeah, he worked himself to the point that had Prince and Michael not had unfortunate death could have continued on to what we're talking about, what Kanye's trying to do now for sure. Without the leverage of a sneaker company or anything else.
B
Each creator has to pick where they choose to sacrifice differently.
E
Yeah.
A
Because.
B
Yeah, 100%. But Kanye is so powerful. He is so strong, that energy is vibrant. Right. So much so that it led to. There was a trickle down effect of. Now Hit boy, Hit boy is exposing some things and, and being transparent about being free. Freer about some things. I don't even know if free is a word, but that's fine. He's being freer about some things.
D
That's somebody we should have called to.
B
Now my advice. No, I don't want to call him, Roy. Rory mentioned it. I wouldn't call him because I know it's real now yeah, it ain't time to call and discuss on the podcast. It's real and we respect it. Because we love you. Same way we love Benny the Butcher. Hey, because we love you. Do not play that Drake record here. Like, even if don't know what they should and shouldn't do. If we love them, we should tell them.
E
What are your hip, boy?
B
What are your Is in music? He don't have sneakers. You don't have. You don't have. Yet.
D
Yet.
B
Yet. I'm just saying your route may need to be different from Kanye's route.
E
Everyone's route is different. Everyone's.
B
We have to recognize that.
E
Absolutely.
B
Hit boy, at some point in his path, may need to talk to Lucian. Yeah. He may need to work with Universal. Only the label with the most market share. Only the label that works in Spotify. It's only the. Like, you might need them.
E
He may need to license off his masters for a significant 100 like everybody else.
B
100. So I don't know.
E
Game is the game. It's different for everyone.
B
I wouldn't advise. I wouldn't. I would advise against it. Listen, I would advise against some of the. I came in here, these last few pods and. And said, like, everything like Sean Stockman said, said don't need to be said. Yeah.
A
Well, it's funny you mentioned that because in me starting to have the conversation of release dates and single dates and all that within fourth quarter and first quarter with my. I've had to have these conversations with everything that's happened the past two weeks with high ranking people at Universal. Hey, I see what y' all doing over there. Respect it. Love it. You do realize you have to put a project out and you do realize, realize Spotify is the biggest DSP on. On the planet. Right, Right. Yeah. Well, sorry.
E
Yeah.
A
Bigger fight over here. Yeah, sorry. Yeah, I. I know y' all think I'm nuts. Sorry.
B
You gotta fly for us, man. Gotta fly for us, Roy. I'm sorry, man.
E
Spotify.
B
And it's up. Cause you got fire.
E
Spotify. Spotify goes off the. For the look model.
D
So.
A
And it's. Yeah, it's been.
E
We're the biggest DSP in the world,
B
but we're not gonna pay anything.
A
Anything fair. But it comes back down.
E
So that goes back to Look. That goes back.
B
They. They remodeled the look out.
A
No, they did, exactly. Because. Because that playlist. Yeah, the visibility. Here's my thing with DSPs now, and I know we're kind of getting sidetracked, but the look was dope with dsps when you could tour. So. All right, if I'm. If I'm doing this with my project and I can get on. On the best Spotify playlist for R B period. New music, always.
E
No doubt.
A
Yeah. All right.
E
That's gonna never disrespect to the YouTube curators.
B
Amazon, what up? Yeah, Apple, what up?
A
That's gonna put my number six title,
B
the title psp the Planet. All of y', all, what up? God damn it.
A
And my exposure will go up crazy on that. I'm not gonna make very much money even If I do 2 million streams. Because we know it's a penny on the dollar, right? Half a penny.
G
Right.
A
But at least, all right, I could build some of somewhat of an audience and sell hard tickets and get tangible fans in seats and do. But with this pandemic, I get what Kanye is saying.
E
Yeah.
B
What?
A
The DSPs are robbing us more than they ever have. There's no real money anymore.
E
Facts.
A
I'm gonna get half a penny because you want to put me on your cool playlist. That's going to give me exposure. I can't.
B
Yo, you're absolutely right. You're absolutely right. And I'm with you. But because of that, I'm not going to be blind, blindly led into thinking that my fight is the same as a nigga's fight who has played nice with the people.
E
Facts.
B
Yeah, that's my only thing.
E
No big facts. You're fighting Kanye. Sweater. Very different.
B
Still supporting Kanye getting his masters and board seats.
E
It's important, buddy.
B
It's important that he received these things for the people that come behind him.
D
And I think that's what.
B
But if I could tell you what the real motive is, I have to take him at face value because I don't. I don't know. And I don't trust him all the way. And I hope that's not taken as a slight.
E
No.
D
I think a lot of people feel
B
like that I am in support.
D
I think that's what. What most people feel like with this rant is like I said, I. I like it because it does seem and feel like it's not an ego based and just send it around him. Rant. I feel like this is the first time that he's mentioning collectively other artists and trying to bring everyone together and, you know, I mean, so that I like now how. How much of it is genuine because of past rants. And, you know, we do know that he has an album coming out and like that. So, you know, there's always when it comes to Kanye, you always look at it with a little side eye, like, all right, fam. Don't tell him. Don't go through all of this and get us all riled up. And then three weeks later, say an album is dropping, and it's like, all right. So this feels like this is just for an album.
B
He's too much of a genius for me. Not the second guess. I'll be honest. Yeah.
D
Because he's always thinking.
B
I respect. Respect his mind.
D
His plan has a plan.
B
Yeah. And I'm not rolling people we've seen in our. Our era.
E
No question.
D
See, he just tweeted, look. Oh, this was old.
B
All music coming next. See, I don't know that this isn't even just for attention, but I don't know. I don't know anything. I don't know.
E
Bigger question.
A
Here's my thing. Because they'll call us hypocrites because there's. There's been plenty of Kanye ran that we've killed rightfully.
B
So I have only ever killed him for the alt. Right Trump.
D
Yeah.
B
Having. Stepping. Stepping on some of the black agenda. Even now with all this, the states that he's qualifying in for the vote and, like, there are states where even the smallest count matters. Like, I have shit I could get on him for. But this is a righteous cause for sure. Even if it's not rooted in righteousness. Righteousness. It is a righteous cause.
A
All right. Yeah. You summed it up better. Exactly what I was gonna say.
E
Yeah.
A
Like, at least this one here I can get with if this is.
B
Well, that's what I'm telling.
A
At least this is a helpful one for the world.
B
It's out there saying, yo, Kanye has only ever been a selfish. So I don't know that this isn't more of the same. Guess what? I don't know either. It could very well be a selfish move. Do I think that the rest of the US could be affected even in his selfishness, like, for the better?
D
Yeah, of course.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
E
When you got someone that's top of the food chain.
B
Yeah. And he is. He is at the top of that food chain or one of the foods. He's a fruit. An important one, a good one.
D
He's a fruit as well.
B
He's something that go, you can't have the salad without him. Whatever it is. I'm not trying to be funny. He's not fruity. You know what I'm saying?
D
It just sounded.
B
Listen, theory style, comedy style, any style that will get y'. All off my dick.
D
Off my dick.
B
St. Get off my dick. Style banner, Spotify the. Y' all gonna do E E L EE that's funny. Listen, much as I have suspected for a few months now, Roy Jones is coming full. For coming forth.
A
Thank God.
B
He's coming forth to say, yo.
D
Now.
B
Thank God, because I don't know if there's gonna be a fight anymore. Now I. He, Rory Jones has come forward to say, yo, I seen the mic viz like, y' all have faster than I thought. Hits harder than I thought. Gotta be honest, I might have made a mistake. And I'm reading that shit saying, nigga, I'm buying a fight in November. So you better get to punching, you better get to sparring. Speed bag. Jogging up and down the Rocky stairs in Philadelphia. Whatever you need to do. Somebody is getting 79.99 from me to see y' all fight. Sorry.
D
It's gonna be bad.
A
I like Roy Jones a lot.
B
Don't do that. Cause you was riding for Roy. Don't do that.
D
I'm riding for Roy, man. But when the. When the fighter, when he start talking like he's scared, what you want me to do?
B
Do?
D
I'm scared for him.
A
I don't even. Like, I can even appreciate the false confidence of fighters. I could tell, you know, you're going to get Roy at least just giving us the show.
D
He's really.
B
Know when to f. Know when to
D
f. That's a fact.
B
Know when to walk away and know when to run. You know, you better know when to walk away. He was born, but Kenny Rogers told his ass.
D
I'm trying to tell you like this. He going to need to hold him, fold him, run, and on some other. When he get.
B
Yeah, we need. We need that shooting major look.
D
Yeah, he going to need all of that.
B
Yeah, Mike going to kill him. And I'm going to pay for it.
D
I'm definitely paying to see that.
E
That's sick.
B
Sorry.
A
Scream, man. Pull up one of them Mike vids, man. No, not him. Drinking a Red Bull. I want to see. I want to see. I want to see him.
B
Bar,
A
who got the mic number? Can we call Tyson Ian? Oh, fair enough.
B
Sorry, Roy. Sorry, Roy. You're going to get killed. You going to die. You going to die. I'm gonna pay per view. You gonna die. You gonna die. Come on, harmonize the die with me. You. You gonna die. You gonna die. You gonna die.
A
I'm gonna ruin the mood. This is bad. Foreshadow shadowing, because that could happen. I'm Serious. Have y' all been paying attention to this the way I have?
B
No.
A
This. They should stop.
B
This fight.
A
Shouldn't happen.
B
I'm telling you.
D
I don't know where Joe got that no knockout rule.
B
Jokes aside, this Masters back. I just want Kanye to have his masters.
D
Well, Mike, you ready to get his masters back? Might get ready to get his masters back for sure.
B
He going.
D
Get his masters back for sure.
B
He going to take him right from Roy. Right? Let's take the hook out there. White, Back up. Survivor. Of the tiger.
A
No, he might die. I hope he doesn't.
B
Roy, we love you. And get out of there.
E
Cover your face.
B
You don't have to fight him. You don't.
D
Don't be too proud when they tell you don't be too proud.
B
Run. No.
A
Either.
B
No, no, no, no.
A
Cover your face and run away.
B
Deeper than that. Deeper than that.
E
Just curl up in a ball.
B
When the guy I'm fighting in September pushes the fight back to say, nah, I think I can make more money. He's not worried about the threat of you.
D
No, no.
A
And he's going to train more.
D
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
D
That's what it really is.
B
Yo, I think I could really crack him if we push this back for a few months. Damn, man. Poor Mike. Let me tell you something about Mike Tyson. We went and did his podcast. I went to dap him up and he dapped my wrist. Listen, take from that what you will, but my hand couldn't move. I was defenseless. I mean, is that right? Defenseless?
E
Sure.
A
I mean, even if you had a
B
defense, I couldn't do anything.
A
He would have broken.
B
Yeah, I couldn't do anything.
A
Yeah.
B
No, go.
A
Go right to my IG in the picture of all of us. Look to the right and see the fear in my. My eyes.
B
Yeah. Right after the Kith post. Look at the IG post that Roy did.
A
What's their return policy
B
Kith just did?
A
That was an old joke.
B
Kip just did something with a.
A
Of course they did.
B
Come on, Come on. Tell the truth.
A
I'm buying it.
D
Rapper A.
B
Yes.
E
Or the door. Die Kiss. I'm in.
B
Do a Die Kiss.
D
They get easy. A pair uptowns.
A
I think AZ probably has some uptowns.
B
Oh, okay.
D
I mean, like his own. Like.
A
Oh, AZ should get his own uptown.
D
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
A
Anyways, no one should fight Mike Tyson.
B
Facts.
A
With that said, since we're on contracts, Nikki won her lawsuit. We talked about it.
B
Round of applause for the
A
Nikki and the music industry.
B
For all of us.
E
Yeah.
A
Which we talked about this maybe what, three months ago?
E
No, it wasn't that long. Three weeks maybe.
G
Oh, wow.
E
Yeah, it wasn't that long. Really. Yeah, it was.
B
It was.
A
Well, yeah. Nikki had a lawsuit with Tracy Chapman about sampling a song that she sent to Flex that was never monetized, never on any dsp, never sold Flex, played it on the radio as just a. A quick leak joint, and then she was sued because the sample was Tracy's. Chapman baby, can I hold you actually don't play.
B
Not, not.
A
Not the record Joe is playing, but I don't think we should play any Tracy Chapman.
E
She's aggressive.
G
Clearly.
B
This is nice and smooth, you guys.
A
But then Nikki tweeted out, or set out, whatever his interview said, hey, this is probably going to change the entire music industry if I lose this case. And no one paid attention but this podcast. Cuz I agreed with her if she lost the this. Everyone that ever made a mixtape is getting sued.
E
Everyone that ever made a beat is.
A
Anyone that is doing. Anyone that feels like experimenting in the studio.
G
Yeah.
A
Is getting sued.
E
Yeah, that's a bad.
B
Bad.
A
Like thank God he felt like she
D
was gonna win this anyway.
A
Thank God Nikki won this lawsuit. Cuz it would have. It would have been the worst thing ever.
D
Tracy not having it.
B
Huh? Clearly I'm happy for Nikki. I hope that her pregnancy is going well. Yes, I'm. I'm happy that. I'm happy that this was the outcome of this. Like y' all said, this would have had a much grander effect on some other people.
E
Devastating.
B
Yes, some people.
A
Anyone you couldn't before.
B
Yeah, it's true. Congratulations to Nikki, man. Happy for her. Hope all goes well. Hope all is well.
D
Yeah.
B
All right, Tracy, you make me sad. Turn up a little bit though. Fair usage.
D
Song of all time.
A
Is it fast enough?
E
This is a top something of all time song.
B
I agree.
D
I think MTV had is a top 100.
A
I would imagine if you have that.
B
I don't listen to what they tell me is top 100.
E
That's fine.
D
What your vibes tell you your soul.
B
Yeah, in my spirit. I. I got to feel like top 100 in my spirit. What's your spirit 100, huh?
A
What's your spirit 100.
B
What is my spirit?
E
What 100 smells like teen spirit brand.
B
Wouldn't even want me to talk to you, Rory. To be honest, I don't have any other news to give you guys. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is. Has transitioned at the age of 87 years old. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died on Friday today due to complications of mes. Mestatic. I can't see right now.
E
Mystatic. That's how you say it, I believe.
B
Pancreas. Cancer. Cancer.
E
I think she's a multiple cancer survivor.
D
Oh, wow.
B
She was 87. Ginsburg was appointed in 1993 by President Bill Clinton and in recent years served as the most senior member of the court's liberal ring wing, consistently delivering progressive votes on the most divisive social issues of the day, including abortion rights, same sex marriage, voting rights, immigration, health care and affirmative action. I'm getting this from CNN.com to give credit and rest in peace.
E
Rest in peace. That's big. Big, big, big, big, big loss. Big, big loss.
D
Yeah.
B
Important. Rest in peace to Breonna Taylor. Still rest in peace to Stuart Scott. You've been on my mind heavy a lot lately. Rest in peace to just everybody out there that we've lost this year and last year unexpectedly. Rest in peace to the people out there that may have lost a family member. This has been a year of great loss for all of us
D
and great
E
gain for some, for the wealthy mostly.
B
But.
D
Well, I don't. I'm not thinking about this.
B
I do think there will be a trickle down effect of gain at some point.
E
There are positivity, there is positive. I don't, I don't have much faith in trickle down economics if we're staying there, but I do. I took a lot of.
B
I said trickle down effect, not economics.
E
I. I took a lot of positivity out of the quarantine. Not that we're still not kind of in it, but it's been a positive in some ways. Getting closer to people that you were maybe not as close with a lot of FaceTimes, a lot of zooms, a lot of being in the crib with your significant other or whatever it is. There's been a lot of positivity that could be taken out of it, so. But rest in peace to those that we have lost.
B
Yeah, 100%. What is this you showing me, screen man? $0.50 feud with the game gets anthology series treatment at Stars. It's not really an announcement for me. 50 Cent can do what he want, what he wants, where he wants. And this is another one of those. What does this say? Amazon and begin hosting podcast sets. Exclus exclusive series with DJ khed, Dan Patrick and more. Shout out to Amazon for everything they have going on.
A
Yeah, I read about the C1. I read about the Dan Patrick one.
B
I listen to a little bit of C. You're not Paul. Podcast poppy. Don't say that again. And I saw Fat Joe say that Cal is not podcast poppy. Fat Joe. You're not podcast poppy either. I don't have. And Fat Joe. I don't have any more. I don't have any more news. I don't have anything that has to be delivered. Everybody's giving their NBA predictions. I'm in an uphill battle. My fantasy see matchup this week. I don't have anything else, man. I don't.
A
We can get into the versus acting debate next episode. So I saw that Jamie Fox.
B
Oh, that needs to happen.
A
Talked about it.
B
And Denzel versus. What did he say? Al Pacino or Robert De Niro?
A
Yeah, when I. When I read the headline, I was like, yeah, whatever. Then I started thinking about it. I was like, if y' all do like scene by scene, that that's. That could be fire.
B
That. That is how you franchise the franchise.
A
Yeah, I'm with Between Pacino.
B
No, no, no.
A
Just actors.
B
Denzel. Denzel versus. I don't remember if they said Pacino or Daero might have been Dairo. But if you.
A
If you do like a time limit, say 30 second clips of each and you just go back and forth, it's a pick them.
E
Denzel versus Pacino or Dairo. I take Pacino over to Nero.
A
I would take De Niro over.
E
Pacino's got a little more range.
A
Yeah, I don't know. I take that back.
B
I don't know.
D
Yeah, I'm taking Denzel over everybody reasonable.
A
I'm not. Yeah, I'm not mad at that.
B
You were very. By this black biting off Wale,
A
actually.
D
What?
A
No Wale bit off.
B
Predictable. Come on.
A
No Wale bit off mole.
D
See, it's true.
B
And Issa Ray bed off mall.
A
And he's wearing St. John merch.
B
And you let Lawrence take.
D
Thanks.
B
And you let Lawrence steal Issa Ray from you.
D
I know.
A
And we talked about Kanye and he's with your brother and St. John. And you won't call them after we call.
D
I was trying to get them on.
B
You ain't seen your brother in a month. Shut up.
D
That was longer than that. I haven't been nowhere. He in la. I haven't been anywhere.
B
I don't need to see pictures of this. I am done. Listen, it's my final sleeper here on this godforsaken platform. Shout out to our first and last time listeners if I have not said that this was our theme song. At one point I was searching around on itunes and somehow found an extended version. I'm going to play it for you. Like to hear it. Here it go. Some of y' all already know the vibes again, thank y'. All. Thank y' all out there. Thank y' all for with us. Thank you all for seeing the value. Thank you for understanding. Thank you for the good energy, good times, positive vibrations, the jokes. Thank you for your sense of humor. Thank you for being a bit more educated than the idiots out there. And I say that sincerely. There's research to show. I've said it before that podcasters are a little brighter than the rest of them podcast audience is what I'm saying.
D
It's a unique bunch.
B
Listen, if you throw a return and a Matt couldn't get any flyer, just play some keys over the front of it, please.
A
Gotta play the Fonte version. Killed this coach.
B
Yes, sir. Positive vibes out there. Thank you for your energy. Thank you for rocking with us for two years. Hug your neighbor to the left and the right. I like my cigar. Light up during the JB sleeper. Man. Everybody out there, y' all know the word. Sing the bridge with me. Wait a minute. Hey, you. Hey. Let's go. More.
A
Karaoke joints.
B
Yeah. Come on, man.
A
Some of the best of all time.
B
Forget we are going down immediately after
A
this episode on this is hilarious.
B
Rory just went crazy. Pump up the world.
A

Well, James, if these niggas thought about
B
they self for a change, then maybe
F
they could finally figure out how to
B
get theyself some change. I done seen jealousy make niggas do 10 terrible things.
F
How the song God did with hope.
B
Oh, yeah. Should have never changed. That's your worry, though. We are the champion. Spend a lot of time at Hampton.
D

A
I was saying how much? This goes on for another six minutes, Rockefeller. We are the champions.
B
A and R by more.
A
First time, first time. I think Kanye was heard. I think to me at least. No, we were saying how much we missed Black and Miles. And I was thinking telling Saon, grab a pack of Black and Miles wine. Wood tip, wood tip. Cuz we classy now I'm 30. I can't do plastic tips. I can't do that.
B
30 is classy.
E
Yeah.
D
Peasants, right, Joe? Such peasants.
A
First of all, talk about wine, black and Miles. And that's a classic.
B
Don't you ever forget it. And I'm just gonna say this really quick for anybody out there that's still stupid. And I hear some of y' all still being stupid. No one signed a bad deal. The market changed. Say it with me. Come on, come on, come on. Say the market change. Should have got a lawyer with me. And you.
A
You should have just talked to Andrew Schultz.
B
I don't even know what you're talking about. I don't even know what you're talking about. Just. Just say it with me. On three, the market changed. 1, 2, 3. The market changed. One more time for him. 1, 2, 3. The market changed and we'll continue Buffooned.
D
Shut the upper.
A
That hard to understand when we were
B
explaining that I think my history made it hard for people.
E
Yeah.
B
Because that. It's a fact that Joe Budden has Joe buttoned everywhere he went. Yeah. The part that they. The part they leave out is there's been nothing but ascension in. In those blow ups. Like we've only continued to go up. Now it was all me.
A
You know what?
B
What?
A
You should listen To Lupe Fiasco on his live talk about Kanye west, because he. He talks about that point directly.
B
Which point?
A
Of people ascending and living in this bubble, that they think that they did this all by themselves, and that's where their downfall begins.
B
Didn't y' all tell me that Cudi had a podcast coming?
E
I think that was.
A
Yeah, I think so.
E
Yeah.
A
I feel like that was a thing.
B
Did it come?
A
Not that I've seen me.
B
No. A lot of podcasts coming out there, y'. All facts. A lot of new podcasts being birthed every day. I don't know if y' all are checking the analytics here. It is easily, like, over a hundred thousand born every week.
A
Yeah. I mean, it's the same. It's the same thing as any other trend. It's the new T shirt, it's the new mixtape, it's the new blog, it's the new. Everyone just hops on the wave.
B
All of you will not survive.
A
I'm about to say it doesn't matter. That's why when everyone. Every person brings that up to me, like, you know, the market is so saturated now. That don't matter. Like, no, we'll be fine.
B
Yeah, we are not. We know our numbers, not the market of people that are great at this, like, that type of shit. A bunch of people came in to say, hey, let me record my voice. Talking about something.
D
Yeah, let me record my voice.
B
Yeah. No, there's a lot of people that listen that. That have. That have watched and peeped and assessed and made plans, and that plan derives around them just talking into a microphone. And I support all of that.
A
I don't ever think Dior was like, holy, people are making pants.
E
Yeah.
B
Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
A
I don't. I think when the mixtape era came, I don't think HOV was like, oh, people are making mixtapes before we leave.
B
No, no, no. 100%, but before we leave. And I probably should have put this in the front, because we're going down for two weeks. You people that think that these celebrities are podcasters are in for a rude awakening. They're not. You could attempt to scale and drive in audience with these big names that don't know shit about shit, and you would know they don't know shit about shit if you start asking them about. You don't, because you're just looking at numbers and you have a vision. And if you insert celebrity, then the cake should bake. I'm here to tell you that's not how the cake bakes.
A
We've seen it already you don't have
B
to believe me we've seen them I have only accurately baked cakes since 01
A
Joey Crocker I can't
B
come on. What's your Duncan Button let's just leave them just play it I hate these white boys I hate these white boys

B
freshman it was supposed to be on my album def jam wouldn't let me pay for the sample so it mixtape it is decide to be a rapper look I'm snitching questioning life after like why did I have to. It's all about the backstabbing and greed prophecy and it starts to interfere with your love for the music 22 most dudes to give it off for they shot for most this is all we got should you quit the whole thing Cuz it's enough in the whole thing to almost make you want to sing it before. Think you better off with that nine applied sometimes you got fire sometimes you want to I wish it was walk out with no jewelry but you can't you wonder real heavy stroke me you ain't got a truck that's hooked up with rims kids will see you like damn well I looked up to him it makes someone acquit make some stance off you don't sign that autograph then it's one fan loss sometimes you don't feel like it anybody want to be on you Sometimes you just want to be normal want the aforementioned sometimes you don't want to be mentioned sometimes you just want to Blend in. You thought anything would be on to the good. You ain't got as much money as you thought you would. Some people sell out everything they shot from they heart for that number one slide on the chart. That's what it is. I can't paint no clearer? How you supposed to see straight when it's all smoke and mirrors? Quit the whole thing. Cause it's enough and the whole thing Almost make you want to kiss the whole thing so long goodbye. Spotify, I'm tired of the games. See you as a standout to outweigh the in the hood with their hand out and going five days a week with no sleeves A lot better than the cold park bench with no sheets. So politics, innuendo, but you never seen a dropout so influential. Push the whole thing. I wish Mark would mix.
E
Re record everything you ever did.
B
What you said, huh?
E
Let's re record everything you ever did.
A
That's what you.
B
I'm down.
A
That's what Kanye's lawyers.
B
If my polyp don't get in the way, I'm with it. Be all right.
E
Take breaks.
B
That's hard, though.
A
But no, nobody
B
of the game.
D
That's that old Joe, man. Oh, man.
B
Jesus.
D
Niggas wasn't outside Joe.
B
I can hear the integrity shining through, yo, real quick. Having nothing to do with nothing in a full circle kind of moment for me yesterday, you know, I was teasing Maul about the last day, it being the last day of school today and him like, being hype about today. But yesterday I was thinking about our last episode, right? And as I was doing so, my phone rang. Guess who called. Leave a moment for them to guess, tiger. No, you guessed it. Dub B calls my phone. Call my phone yesterday. Dub says he's not paying attention to media. I don't listen to any of that. That is so Dub of him. So he don't know what's going on with anything. He just called and hoped the number was the same and wanted to check on me. And we had, like, a really, really, really good talk yesterday. He's doing some artificial intelligence.
E
I love him around for a while, man.
B
He had a baby. That's dope. And yeah, he had a. A moment where he just was thinking about me. That's dope, man. And thinking about 20 years ago and me showing up to the house to lay a verse and try to make a song and. And our venture that we went on in. In music and me personally, I did the breathe thing to stop from crying again. I was like, man, look at God again. Like. Like, thank you for showing me that I'm still in touch with some of the people that I started this journey with. Right, right, right. We don't have to talk every day.
G
Right?
B
I know what's going on with you,
D
but we still connect.
B
But dang, got dub. Let me go. Let's go bowling next week. What are you doing? Like, let's. Let's. Let's talk. It was good to hear about where he is in his fight, and it was good to hear about where he thinks I am in my fight, knowing me and that I've always been for the fight.
G
Right.
B
And that's kind of some of what he echoed to me. Like, listen, I don't know what's going on with you, but I know you. And, yeah, this is what you should be doing. Bucking the system at all times. It's not shocking if we know you w. I love you, Dill. I love you, y'.
G
All.
B
I love you like anybody that was there. I love you, Ian. Kee. I know y' all came just because it's the last episode. I don't give y' all enough praise publicly. I love both of you as well. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Ian. I know that talking is tiring.
E
Corey, we love you always.
B
It's exhausting. Ian, don't. Please. Don't think for one second that I don't get what your task entails. I do. And I appreciate you and thank you. Corey. Saying for you. Savon scream, man, Are you done googling fucking jobs? Are you with us? Like cuz I won't get you indeed, bro. Are you with us? I won't.
E
Thank you.
D
If you're not, sit right there.
B
If you're not with us, are you locked in? Yeah. R. What the meatloaf. Just thank everybody, man. Thank everybody.

Absolutely.
B

D
Absolutely.
B
But how. What we were able to accomplish when that day door open.
D
Absolutely.
B
I wish you all the best. As long as I'm not there. I support all podcast unions. Please let me be clear in that.
E
Yeah.
B
There's a lot of questions that podcasters are going to ask that are valid that won't be represented properly when you do it. Yeah. And I'm in that fight. It don't matter if I'm not in the building I'm in in there with y'. All. Any podcaster that comes behind me or with me, I am in this with y'. All. There's a lot going on out there. And it's not for me to tell you. It's for you to use your own assessment skills. And with that said, let me end with the greatest gospel record ever created, because that's how full of gratitude is. I am.
E
Back that ass up.
B
That's it. Can't let these white boys in hip hop, man.
A
That's what my son and Royce was saying.
E
They're right.
B
I love activist Royce.

Shout out to activism.
B
I love it. Shout out to mice as well, man.

E
We appreciate the fight.

A
Now, come on. I'm. I'm on karaoke.
B
Shining your light on me, you makes me happy. Come on. Hey, look at your neighbor in your cubicle. Hug him.
D
Hug him.
B
Thank y'. All. We're out of here. We're leaving y' all with every trash podcast that exists on this platform.
A
We're taking those episodes with us.
B
Hey, if you want to hear some of these old episodes, unfortunately, they're in the deal that they stay on Spotify for the next 18 months. I do not encourage any of you to listen to anything with my voice on this godforsaken platform. I don't listen to it somewhere else.
E
Ain't no royalty season this yet yet again.
B
For the people that are asking me what the plan is, I wish I could tell you what we're doing, but there are 100 different plants and the landscape changes hourly, so I cannot tell you. But what I can tell you is
D
we about to make history again.
B
I'm not coming back to all my as millionaires. I don't walk in the club without my people. People. That's just the bottom line. That's one, two. Wherever we are, you'll know before we get there. Yeah, follow me on Instagram. Joe Button, follow all us on Instagram at Mark Music at. More with man underscores at. This is Rory. I don't follow Ericson. I don't know his.

B
Yo, listen, we want to thank y'. All. Thank you, Spotify. Thank you to the fans. Thank you to all these other platforms that are calling. Thank you to the black executives out there. Thank you to the podcast broadcasters out there. Thank you to everybody that is with the movement and funneling information so everybody is on a better accord with one another. It's as close as we'll get to an overall union today, so I'm down with that. Listen, keep us in your prayers. Lord knows. Lord knows that's not just a line at the end of a pod. Lord knows we need to be there, and we'll do the same with y' all of Course I got a reading the other day. Too much, too much energy out there. I had to go get a reading.
A
Yeah, talk about it.
B
Nah, she was like, oh, these cards are flying out of here. Here's the death card, the reaper card. It was mad bad cards shot down. I was like, you know what? I think the card's delayed cuz my energy. Great now like that was last week. Got the card. You looking at last week cards. Ma,
A
you had the same scene as Beyonce in the Carmen hip hop opera.
B
Yeah, it was. It was nasty.
D
That's hilarious.
B
It was nasty. It was bad out there. But no, we need to do a
A
movie breakdown one day. Another episode of that movie of Lil bow Wow being 11 years old in prison with grown men.
B
What was a little Space Jam remake Bow Wow made?
A
Oh, like, like Mike.
D
Like Mike too.
A
That shit was alright though.
B
Yeah, I didn't like how he was looking in the promo pictures.
A
Beyonce got mad cards in her tarot card reading, yo Ma, you're gonna die. And she was like, no, I'm not. That movie is hilarious. Go ahead, let that rock.
E
Turn it up. Please cover the Beyonce possible.
A
I'm talking about the movie Hip Hop Karma. You can purchase it now on any dsp.
B
If y' all think I was signing an exclusive deal without going to talk to Hov about where he saw the next 10 years after he tried to tell me two years ago that Daniel Ek was a piece of shit and I missed it. Not again. Mal stole your again.
D
Not again. Never again.
B
Never again. Yo, man, until the next time. Two weeks. What y' all doing with your vacay time? Talk to me. I don't know. They figured out mall is in la, Parks is in Buffalo, Lori's with his wife.
E
I might be moving.
B
Eric's shooting some.
E
This might be the end of the line for.
B
Wait. Death of a Dynasty.
E
Maybe. Maybe so. Man, this will be the second New York legendary home that is gone that I've experienced DND in this in a five year span.
B
Rest in peace, dnd, man. Yeah, classics made up there.
E
Yeah, a lot of classics made in here too.
B
Our College Dropout was made in these places. Man, they just sold the masters. Yeah, Mo, don't do that again. Don't sell our masters.
D
That's funny.
A
He already sold the podcast Masters the title. We just don't know it.
E
At least they have credits on there though.
B
If they sell Rockefeller, then they sell College Dropout. These is crazy.
D
The only masters they ever owned was for Reasonable Doubt. Like, what are y' all talking about?
B
Kanye On Twitter, telling whole business, hey, he don't get his masters for another 10 years. Whoa, whoa, fam, fam, yo, fight your fight. You'll fight your fight. Fight. Please don't worry about what I'm doing, man. Please listen. Until the next time, which is two weeks from now, October 7th, we will be back again. October 7th, we'll be back. Until then, I bid you a do. Farewell. Aa la vista. So long, goodbye. All that good. Remember, life is a series of moments. And moments pass. So let's make this one last as if it's all that we have, man. Shout out to everybody 40 and up out there, that's feeling the differences that your body is telling you every morning. You got to listen to your body. Gotta listen to your body, man. We getting out of here. Shout out to all the artists. The fight don't stop. The fight continues. I do like the transparency that's happening now. And when I say that, I don't mean everybody exposing their contracts. I mean us calling each other other and being vulnerable with each other and. And exposing some things that might be going on with us in business that might help all of us.
E
That's how growth happens.
B
We don't have to do that on Twitter, you guys. Or we don't have to do it on Instagram, you guys. We can just kind of connect in person. Yeah, I know. The algorithms will try to tell you that in person doesn't exist anymore. The algorithm rhythms are lying. We can get with each other. We can talk to each other. We can help each other, we can support each other.
E
The Internet is not the be all, end all, 1,000.
B
Love of God, 1,000%. Listen, bottom line for Joe, if we don't carve out our rules now, and our demands now, and our asks now, then when will we receive them? Speaking for me, I have two kids. One. One of them is really heavy into music, and one puts a puzzle together faster than even I could. I have to assume that the pool from which entertaining provides can actually provide a little more. Not just for my kids, for Kanye's kids, for Fred, the Godson's kids, for Chinks, drugs, kids, for Stack, for anybody that. Anybody. It's just. It's anybody. This. This fight is not yours. It's ours. Right? And I'm cool with that being my last word. Listen, it's been two years. Again, I want to thank my guys for getting through this contract cordially, professionally, and with dignity, integrity, and honor.
A
Honorable.
B
Who else but us? Who else but us?
A
We be joking when we say that
D
but no, it's a real thing.
E
We did that you.
B
Yeah, yeah, no, I know. I know that we be joking, because all we do is joke on this pod. But when we get off this pod, y' all know some of the real that we circulate amongst each other. Y' all know how we feel. Y' all know what goes on. Podcasters, fellow podcasters, salute to y', all, man.
D
Yeah, for sure.
B
Salute. Salute to y'. All. I appreciate y'.
G
All.
B
Thank y'. All. We rocking with y'. All. And I'm getting the out of here, man. I was talk to y' all October 7th. And that's on. That's on Period Pool,
A
yo. Ended a contract with. That's on Period Pool.
B
Listen, man. JT told y' all what it is. Hey, hey.
A
I got you.

You're now listening. Yo, yo, Give Rory to A. Give Rory to A. Please. What's wrong with us? Live your idols. May they never be your rivals. Rakim was like Jesus. Chuck D wrote the Bible, g rap was God 100. The punch from King. Live the queen. So in Farmers, we would see Tar James. Remember the COVID Black Panther with the fat gold chain? The Slick Rick had a million of them, so I wanted a million of them. Yeah. Back in my first age, when we a know who was the nicest in third base, which MC was the worst before my MC search some.
A
I saw Smurf on Farmers before I ever met him.
B
Way before.
A
I was out with Rest in Peace Maserati. Like, it was nice that you saw Todd James. Farmers was a little different.
B

A
But you was with.
B
And then. That's my point. Like I said, I tried to stay away from these people. Hey, yo. When them chairs started flying in Summer Jam, I was like, oh, see, that's why that right there. I'm cool. I'm cool. Turn it up. Right
A
things.
B
Dreaming is doing no extremist.
D
This is true.
B
Don't take a genius to see the genius is doing ain't got the reach to do it so let me reach you can do it it goes look if you live long you see your idols being rivals HOV was like the goat congratulations on title salute broke through many barriers for us when we couldn't move the needle you carried us for us look forward maybe in 30 years they'll implore us push to the back of the rear and ignore us I think we nearing that border Mr. Quarter who gonna fear for the authors they only there to extort us who gonna be there to record us nigga even deeper who gonna care for our D and our sons Just the vultures we keep handing them the culture and the hip hop that raised this kid is one that spoke up I'm pessimistic I won't even get my hopes up but if it's gonna all improve before it blow up need more than overcharging for what they did to the cold crush just a PSA in lieu of the movement can't get a quarterback now what about future music really neutral button I'll be honest.
Episode 382 | "Thank You"
Date: September 19, 2020
Theme:
Episode 382 marks the final episode of The Joe Budden Podcast on Spotify, closing out their exclusive two-year deal. Joe Budden, Rory, Mal, Parks, and crew reflect on their journey, discuss the importance of ownership and creator rights, and talk candidly about industry contracts, especially in light of Kanye West’s public battle for his masters. The episode serves as both a farewell to the Spotify era and a heartfelt thank you to both their audience and collaborators. Expect a mix of introspection, gratitude, industry critique, humor, music discussion, and surprise call-ins from notable guests.
“We’re not doing any of that. I don’t give 2F.” – Joe ([05:38])
Joe on Value & Endings:
“We dictate our value.” ([02:59])
On Growth & Transparency:
“It’s therapy twice a week right?” – Parks ([30:21])
“This fight is not yours. It’s ours.” – Joe ([217:26])
On Platform Politics:
“Just because they don’t know … I’m not going back [to Spotify] … I see what they’re doing … it’s like, obviously apparent what they’re doing.” ([140:27])
On Contracts & Change:
“No one signed a bad deal. The market changed.” – Joe ([192:00])
On Community:
“Salute. Salute to y’all. I appreciate y’all … We rocking with y’all.” ([218:54])
The tone is a blend of reflective, celebratory, hilarious, occasionally petty, and deeply grateful. It’s honest–both poignant and raucous, with plenty of in-jokes and references for long-term fans. The camaraderie and brotherhood shine through, as does the sense of mission and legacy in their stance on creator independence.
Next episode resumes October 7th, 2020.
