I want you to take a listen to Pete's press conference on yesterday at the Defense Department, which is still called the Defense Department, when he gave what was supposed to be a briefing before the press corps curated according to his hand, selections into mainly pro Trump media. And he gave the media at this press conference, the real media, some advice

used and we know it. Our response, we will keep pressing. We will keep pushing, keep advancing. No quarter, no mercy for our enemies. Yet some in this crew in the press just can't stop. Allow me to make a few suggestions. People look up at the TV and they see banners, they see headlines. I used to be in that business and I know that everything is written intentionally. For example, a banner or a headline, mideast War intensifies. Splashing on the screen the last couple of days alongside visuals of civilian or energy targets that Iran has hit, because that's what they do. What should the banner read instead? How about Iran? Increasingly desperate because they are. They know it and so do you. If it can be admitted. Or more fake news from CNN reports that the Trump administration underestimated the Iran war's impact on the Strait of Hormuz. Patently ridiculous, of course. For decades, Iran has threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This is always what they do, hold the strait hostage. CNN doesn't think we thought of that. It's a fundamentally unserious report. The sooner David Ellison takes over that network, the better.

Hmm. Did you hear that? The Defense Secretary of the United States openly admitting that the regime cannot wait for one of its pet oligarchs to own more of the media so that they can curate the way news organizations like CNN report on the US Military and its interventions and wars. They want their oligarch in charge. He just said it. It's not me. So that he can get the positive, affirming headlines he desires. And he's implying, like what we're getting at CBS this, as apparently the US Is being rather shady about how many Americans have actually been injured or maybe even killed in the war, that Bibi the Butcher ordered Donald Trump to start with him and the US as its military bases. And apparently Israel's Iron Domes defenses are allegedly not holding up as advertised. Now, remember that Israel's Iron Dome is not only based inside of the territory of Israel. Some of those missile detectors are based in the Gulf states. It's based sort of across where it can, you know, see what's supposedly coming in. There is news all over the Internet. I was listening to Richard Medhurst yesterday, one of the very young analysts specializes in this stuff that says a lot of that Iron Dome has been destroyed. That Iran may not have more missiles than us, but they're targeting them at Israel's early warning and defense systems, meaning that they are blind to missiles coming in. We don't know if that's true because there's a big limit on what the media is allowed to report. Qatar and other Gulf states similarly allegedly are barring people from reporting or even posting from their own phones or on missile strikes hitting their territory, as allegedly is Israel saying, it's national security. You can't report the missiles coming down. So there's very limited reporting. Journalists covering this war in the Middle east are facing increasing restrictions and censorship opposed by governments and armed groups, reports the Times of Israel, with reporters being stopped and questioned or even detained. A survey of AFP bureau chiefs from the region showed. This is the Times of Israel's reporting restrictions in Iran are particularly severe, while Gulf monarchies, which have been targeted by unprecedented drone and Missile attacks from Iran have also imposed tighter controls. Israel, meanwhile, has barred publication of content deemed a direct security threat, such as live broadcasts showing city skylines during missile attacks, images that identify locations of missile impact sites, or information on of military plans and air defenses. The same way Israel tried to shut down reporting inside Gaza of the destruction being meted out there, mainly by killing journalists who are trying to report on it. Meanwhile, the Committee to Protect Journalists reports that since the Iran war broke out on February 28, when the US and Israel launched these strikes on Iran and killed the Supreme Leader of Iran, and Tehran retaliated with attacks across 19 countries across the region and also shut down the Straits of Hormuz. The organization has documented arrests of journalists interfering with reporting airstrikes, damaging media infrastructure and sweeping restrictions on coverage. The Committee to Protect Journalists reports on both Iranian, Israeli and US Forces bombing media facilities and broadcasting companies in the opposing countries, including in Lebanon, where nearly a million people have been displaced by Israel's bombing attacks. They've also restricted the ability to report on the damage that's being done on the ground in the US it really is no better. I want you all to listen now to Pete Hegseth taking a question from a conservative outlet on something that really should be easy enough to answer. How many US Casualties have there been?

and where were the American service members when they were injured? I mean, it's a bunch of return to duty. So we've had a whole, the large, large majority have gone in for some medical treatment. Return to duty. We've had in Kuwait, Jordan, down across the southern flank a little bit, a variety of places, most from one way, attack strikes. But I want to clarify that. I think what we tried to do here. Yeah. Is clarify those numbers rather than saying KIA or WIA wounded. Be more clear about that because the overwhelming majority, almost 90%.

No, no, no. We just know. You don't have to, you don't have to shade it. Pete, just tell us the number. You worked on this side of the media landscape. You were a TV presenter like I was a TV presenter in mainstream media. You were at Fox where they don't have a standards department, but you were still a TV presenter, had a weekend show. I had a weekend show. So you know how this goes. What the, what the media is asking, in this case, the Washington examiner, which is a conservative leaning paper, they asked you a simple question that even they want to know how many people have been wounded, how many People have been killed. When Reuters reported it was 150 US troops wounded, the, the regime went back and said, no, it was 140, but they were lightly injured. They were barely injured at all. Well, how lightly? I, I think the American people deserve to know that. Right. And I will note that Jim Acosta noted that the people standing in front of Pete Hegseth when he's taking questions from the press corps, they're not the normal press corps. The major networks and news outlets are not participants in that Pentagon briefing. It's Lindell tv. That's the pillow guys news outlet, One America News, the right wing news outlet, Real America News, another right wing troll news outlet, that is who's asking the questions. So the Washington examiner is like one of the few sort of semi normal outlets that are asking questions because what they want is flattering coverage. Remember, this is the guy, Pete Hegseth, who has banned photographers from taking photos inside the briefings because they took unflattering pictures of him. He didn't look good. Now it's like when people scrub their Google image search results because they don't like the ugly pictures. Wish I could do that. I mean, how do you do that? Meanwhile, if you are a constituent of Senator Tim Sheehy of Montana, know that he is caping for the regime. The story that Hegseth was complaining about that report, that Hegseth's inept Pentagon was unprepared for the closing of the Straits of Hormuz by Iran and the massive implications of that he claimed he went on X Twitter and said, I received a classified briefing from the administration. It is categorically false that they did not plan for Iran closing the Straits of Hormuz. Lawmakers and national security officials have known for years that this was Iran's plan once their backs were against the wall. If you don't remember Tim Sheehy, he's also the guy who broke a Marine's hand, a retired Marine's hand, for protesting against the war and saying the US that Americans don't want to die for Israel. Just noting that's who he is. After that defense New Jersey Senator Andy Kim, who also got the briefings on the war, all the senators got them, he got them too. And he formerly served in the State Department said, you know what, actually the CNN story, you know it is true the Trump regime and its idiocracy at the Pentagon were not ready for the fallout. Here's what he said. Andy Kim, I worked at the Pentagon, State and White House on Middle east and every Assessment of about possible conflict with Iran did indeed start with the real possibility of closing the Strait of Hormuz. I guarantee Trump leaders were warned. They just thought they were better than the experts. So it's not that they weren't aware that this could happen. Sorry, I have a cold. I have my, I have my tea having a little cold. I'm going to sip. So she is shading it to make it sound like CNN is saying they had no idea that this could happen. Andy Kim, who I trust more than she, he hasn't broken a Marine's hand lately, has said, oh, no, no, they, they were warned. They just have a plan for it. Meanwhile, Israel is bombing the hell out of southern Lebanon as it seeks to use this war as its opportunity to not just destroy Iran, but also Lebanon and Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran and based in Lebanon. And so doing, they're continuing their strategy, which has played out in ghastly form in Gaza, which is bombing institutions that have nothing to do with the war, in this case, the Lebanese public university. Here is some alleged footage of that bombing which is circulating online. The smoke, allegedly is an Israeli airstrike on the Lebanese public university. Bombing universities and soccer stadiums while the US Bombs girls, schools and neighborhoods does not sound like a war to stop Iran from going nuclear. It sounds like a war of subjugation and imperialism, which is meant to break those countries and those societies, including Lebanese society, to make them more malleable to occupation. That's what it looks like to me. The Israeli military also killed a Lebanese priest named Pierre Al Rahi, whose home in southern Lebanon was hit by tank shells. He had refused Israeli orders to evacuate his town ahead of the siege and stayed instead to help his community members who couldn't or wouldn't flee. Israel has been ordering people in southern Lebanon to leave their homes again, a reminder that Israel occupied Lebanon from 1982 until the year 2000. And far right wing Israelis in that settler community, they view huge chunks of Lebanon as part of their Israel, their Greater Israel, which would stretch from the Nile river in Egypt all the way to the Euphrates in Iraq. In their dream, they would, they would confiscate big chunks of Iraq, Iran, part of Egypt, part of Jordan, part of Syria and part of Lebanon to make their giant, enormous Eretz Israel. This is something that Bibi Netanyahu also agrees with doing, although he is not a religious man. But he has stoked the far right in Israel to believe that through this war of they have to do is knock out Iran and Iraq and Syria and Lebanon knock out their governments and according to the far, far right in Israel, they can create Eretz Israel. This as American far right evangelicals are also saying that you could do that. And they don't mind. Mike Huckabee said, who's our US Ambassador to Israel, said, I don't mind if they take it all, get their Eretz Israel, because that's going to then bring back, bring on Armageddon. So everybody's in it together. A holy war to have Israel expand, grab the Al Aqs mosque and put the rebuild the temple in Jerusalem on top of it, basically destroy it, take over all of the region, become the hegemon in the region and poof, Armageddon. Meanwhile, Donald Trump, when he's asked about this message, can't even admit that it's a war. Peter? Yes. You just said it is a little excursion and you said it is a war. So which one is it?

Well, it's both. It's both. It's a, an excursion that will keep us out of a war and the war is going to be, I mean, for them, it's a war. For us, it's turned out to be easier than we thought.

Yeah, Lethal effect, not politically correct. Right. Let's take a listen to how Iranians are actually responding to that destruction of that school which has become a cause in Iran. And this video is now circulating all over social media. Okay. Yep. Lethal effect, not politically correct. That is the way the United States is now seen all over the Muslim world. Before we get to our guest, a quick correction. We ran the incorrect images. We like to be accurate here at the Joy Reid show if at all possible. We ran incorrect images of some of the US Casualties earlier this week. So I want to show you all the accurate photos. The seventh service member killed during this unnecessary War has been identified as Army Sergeant Benjamin M N Pennington. He's only 26 years old out of Glendale, Kentucky. He was injured at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, where he was assigned to 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space Brigade, a unit within Army Space and Missile Defense Command. Very quickly also, I know you've heard about this story about a man who rammed his truck into a Michigan synagogue on Thursday. It turns out he lost four family members in an airstrike in Lebanon the week before, according to an imam in Dearborn Hearts, Michigan and a Lebanese official who says he knew the man and his family. The attacker was identified by federal officials as Ayman Mohad Ghazali, a 41 year old naturalized US citizen who was born in Lebanon. He lived outside Detroit where a mosque held a memorial for his slain family members this week, according to the Imam Hassan Ghazwani of the Islamic Institute of America, who performed the service but did not know him the gentleman personally. Mr. Ghazali was killed on Thursday after driving through the temple doors and down the hallway of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan. He exchanged gunfire with security guards, according to officials, who then added they don't know what his cause of death is, which is weird. No one else was killed in the attack, which also set the building on fire, including sending some 30 police officers to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. One security guard was hit by the vehicle and he is expected to recover. Now I will notice note that this attack and has stoked fears among Jewish and Muslim Americans in Michigan and everywhere who are now living in fear of violence and of the blowback from this war, which I will say all of the blood from this war, including for those who are injured in retaliatory attacks, is all on the hands of the regime. Let's move on to news of our AI oligarchs. I want you all to take a quick listen to Palantir CEO Alex Karp and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman explaining what the future of America will look like as their AI surveillance and brain substitution technology takes over.

Raja Krishnamurthy (24:51)

He has to support the warfighter. The one thing though that I think even now is underestimated by all actors in industry and including in Silicon Valley is how disruptive these technologies are. If you are going to disrupt the economic and therefore political power significantly of one party, party space, highly educated, often female voters who vote mostly Democrat and military, and working class people who do not feel supported and you feel like that's you believe that that's going to work out politically, you're in an insane asylum like that. You cannot have. This technology disrupts humanities trained, largely Democratic voters and makes their economic power less and increases the power, economic power of vocationally trained working class, often male voters. And, and, and so these disruptions are going to disrupt every aspect of our society. And to make this work, we have to come to an agreement of what it is we're going to do with the technology. How are we going to explain to people who are likely going to have less good and less interesting jobs from their perspective and how is it that we are going. And by the way, on the military thing, these technologies are dangerous societally. The only justification you could possibly have would be that if we don't do it, our adversaries and will do it and we will be subject to their rule of law. So if you decouple this from the support of the military, you're going to have, have an enormous problem explaining to the American people why is it that we're absorbing the risk of disrupting the very fabric of our society, including the most powerful parts of our society, if it's not because it's about maintaining our ability to be American in the near term and long term.

Joy Reid (26:49)

Fundamentally our business, and I think the business of every other model provider is going to look like selling tokens. You know, they may come from bigger or smaller models, which makes them more or less expensive. They may use more or less reasoning, which also makes them more or less expensive. They may be running all the time in the background trying to help you out. They may run only when you need them. If you want to pay less. They may work super hard, you know, spend tens of millions, hundreds of millions of someday billions of dollars on a single problem that's really valuable. Valuable. But we see a future where intelligence is a utility like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter and use it for whatever they want to use it for. The demand that we see for that seems like it's going to continue to just go like this and if we don't have enough, we either can't sell it or the price gets really high and it kind of goes to rich people or society makes a bunch of sort of central planning decisions that I think almost always go badly about. You know, we're going to use our limited compute supply for this and not that. So the best thing to me, throughout all the history of capitalism, innovation, whatever you want, is to just flood the market. Yeah, that second guy, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI and the first guy, of course, is Alice Carr. But you heard that right. The CEO of a federal defense contractor admitting that his company's products will take power away from the opponents of the regime and empower the kind of voters who are regime supporters. And he said that on camera. Joining me now is one of the multiple candidates for the United States Senate in Illinois, where he's fighting to win the seat being vacated by Senator Dick Durbin, Congressman Raja Krishnamurthy, who currently represents Illinois's 8th congressional district. Congressman, your thoughts on that? Because it sounds to me like these two AI federal contractors are saying that they welcome the disempowerment of women and educated Americans who typically vote Democrats, and the empowerment of the kind of people they want to send to war.

Raja Krishnamurthy (28:58)

It sounded pretty zany to me, and I, I saw some of the comments that were scrolling on your, on your platform. Someone said it looks like the beginning of a psychological thriller or something. When they, when you see those images of people talking about it in that way, I think this is, this is very dangerous. And I think this is something that we have to kind of police. That's why I think safeguards on AI are absolutely important, even at the same time that hopefully someday AI will be used to help us enhance our productivity, help in our education and healthcare spaces and other ways. But the way they're talking about it is, is not right.

Joy Reid (29:41)

But you, I mean, you yourself have taken money from AI billionaires. Is that something that you feel that you can say, I won't do again? Because the reality is people don't trust these companies and, you know, yourself as a candidate. Are you willing to swear off their money?

Raja Krishnamurthy (30:00)

I don't want to take any money from anybody who's going to espouse those types of views. I think that this is kind of something where I'm fortunate that I have, you know, over 90,000 individual supporters who kind of pride, I guess, support me because of my independence on issues. And I try to put the best interests of our constituents first. I think that's the most important thing.

Joy Reid (30:23)

Above all, take me inside the way this works. I mean, these companies are the Marc Andreessen of the world. These people come to you, the palantirs of the world. What do they want from you as a representative? What do they want you to do?

Raja Krishnamurthy (30:36)

I think that a lot of these people, they seek to kind of make their case for what they want. But at the end of the day, we have to exercise our independence for what we think is best for the American people. So for just take as an example AI, you know, for instance, I think some people want fewer safeguards with regard to AI, and then other people, they want to make sure that AI is available, it's democratized, it's available for people to enhance their productivity, but not something that somehow makes human beings redundant. And that's kind of an ongoing kind of conversation from my standpoint. I was the ranking member of the Special Select Committee on the Strategic competition between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party. I'm always concerned that, you know, our adversaries or competitors might, you know, invest more in these types of technologies of the future than dominate it. And then they set the rules with regard to, you know, how that technology actually manifests itself in society. I don't want the CCP doing that. And so I think we have to lean forward and be the ones that are regulating this from the get go.

Joy Reid (31:53)

Now, you voted, I believe, in favor of the ban off TikTok, right?

Raja Krishnamurthy (31:58)

Yes. This is the. Not the ban on TikTok, but the divestment, the forced divestment of TikTok from ByteDance, the CCP controlled company.

Joy Reid (32:11)

Are we better off, though, having the Ellison family? Who are. They are ideologues. They are very much in league with Bibi Netanyahu, who apparently has talked our president into going to war. They have an ideological bent and they are exercising that kind of control over cbs, the way they've staffed it, putting Bari Weiss in charge. They now are about to control cnn where they could do the same thing. Are we better off? I don't recall China having as much input into the way that the news is delivered than the Ellisons. The Ellisons, to me, I feel like were worse off. No. And they Also now own TikTok.

Raja Krishnamurthy (32:54)

So here's a. Here's my observation on this. The CCP is beyond our laws, beyond our rules and regulations. I don't think we should have the CCP controlling our media. Now, with regard to the Ellisons and with regard to any ownership here, you're absolutely right. We need to make sure that they are governing these social media platforms in a way that's consistent with our rules, norms and regulations. And I think that's something we should absolutely speak out about. But the CCP is so far beyond any of our rules and regulations, I don't think that they should be the ultimate arbiter.

Joy Reid (33:32)

But right now it seems to me that it's not clear who's the ultimate arbiter of our policy, because a foreign country, Israel, sure does seem to have a lot of influence. That's also a foreign country. Right. And they seem to have a lot more influence than you or I do over what our government does. And so I'll go back again to say is if you become a United States Senator, let's say you're in the Senate and you could pop. You just, you know, wave a magic wand and you're in the Senate. Do you believe that our United States Senate and our House of Representatives needs to regulate companies like the Ellison's company, like that company, because they are now becoming a monopoly in which they get to control what we know, what we learn, what is the news and what

Raja Krishnamurthy (34:13)

is on social media 100%. Not only that, but the Trump administration favors them in this whole regulatory process and taking over these different organs of the media. And that's wrong. That's absolutely wrong. I think that's where in Congress we have to step up and make sure that we try to block some of this stuff in the House. I've successfully done this on certain issues, whether it's on large food conglomerates merging like Kroger's and Albertsons because they end up with too much consolidation of power in the food industry, thus leading to prices getting hiked and worker conditions getting hurt. And I successfully was able to do that by shining a light on the problem and getting others to join in that effort. And we have to do the same. With regard to what you just said

Joy Reid (35:05)

as well, and I will ask you, since, of course, you have, you know, done a lot of work in this AI space, Anthropic and chat GPT. They both have. Have executives really sound the alarm about AI technology, their technologies, Claude, etc being used to target, you know, to. To, I guess, find targets for this war, potentially including that girls school. It feels like AI and these companies are out of control. Do you agree?

Raja Krishnamurthy (35:34)

I agree that there's just. There's. There's not enough guardrails on the AI technology that's especially being used in the Department of War.

Joy Reid (35:42)

Okay, there's no Department of War, please. We call it the Department of Defense. That's what it's really called. You're in Congress, you're supposed to change the name. If they're gonna change it.

With dod, it's absolutely wrong what happened with Anthropic listing them as a company of risk in the supply chain just to punish them for not towing the line that Pete Hagseth put in place so that he could take the safeguards off the AI and be able to use it. However. However he wanted. That was absolutely wrong. And we have to stand up against that type of use of AI. You know, one thing, I'm sorry to kind of go on about this, but it really bothers me. What Pete Hegseth wants to do is he wants to take human beings out of the loop in the use of lethal action by the United States military. So think about that for a second. You could have autonomous weapons systems use AI without even a human being deciding who the target is or whether the trigger is pulled. That's absolutely unacceptable. And we got to fight that.

Joy Reid (36:52)

Yeah. Do you believe this war in Iran is legal?

Raja Krishnamurthy (36:55)

No, it's illegal and unconstitutional. That's why I voted against it as part of the War Powers Resolution. We should do that almost every week at this point. I think we would get probably more Republicans to join us. You know, God bless the families of the 13 fallen and the 140 wounded.

Joy Reid (37:13)

10, 13 you're giving. You're breaking some news here because the last count we got was seven. So it is now 13 US troops dead.

Raja Krishnamurthy (37:20)

It's 13 dead, 140 injured, including 10 who have life threatening injuries, Joy. I mean, they are literally fighting for their life tonight. And on the other hand, the costs are mounting economically here at home. I just did an event here at a Chicago gas station where the price of gasoline has gone up by $1 in one week. And this is not the end. And so at a time when people are hurting economically and where prices are already off the charts for everything, this war is costing lives and it's costing us incredible amounts of treasure as well and hurting families.

Joy Reid (38:01)

By the way, since you are breaking news for us and you're getting the briefings, we have seen reports anywhere from 2,500. Some have said 3,000, others have said 5,000 US Marines are headed to the Middle East. Do you have a number?

Raja Krishnamurthy (38:15)

It's in that range. It's 2 to 3,000. An amphibious ship has now been asked to redeploy from Japan to the Persian Gulf. I'm very worried about that. Okay. Because these are Marines. Marines get deployed for one reason, Joy. Okay. And that's for combat boots on the ground. God forbid that a single boot gets placed on the ground in Iran. That would be an absolute disaster. It would be a quagmire. It would be another. And by the way, the Iranian government would welcome that. They would welcome the opportunity to shoot at American soldiers on the ground. It would be absolutely disastrous. We can't do this.

Joy Reid (39:00)

Yeah. Last question before I let you go this race, I've been reading a little bit about it, and kind of one of the tumult here is your race in Illinois. You are facing two black women, the lieutenant governor, as well as Representative Robin Kelly, your fellow congresswoman, who the concern among a lot of black women is they're going to split the vote. That would give you an opportunity. Are you concerned about maybe having a Talarico problem if you prevail? Because there is a lot of, you know, residual anger over Jasmine Crockett not winning in Texas. And there's a concern that the same thing could happen in Illinois.

Raja Krishnamurthy (39:38)

Joy. I'm just trying to win every single vote from every single person. And like, it's not really about Jeffrey Epstein because Americans aren't really hearing. This man was in his corruption trial earlier in February. He was testifying in open court for like the 26th or 27th time, right before the Iran war started. We are doing this because his, his approval rating, his political future is in serious doubt. The Gaza war was a complete failure within Israel. It was a failure in the world. But even Israelis think he did a poor job protecting them around October 7th and with the Gaza war, so then he, and then he's on this corruption trial. It's unlikely that he's actually going to go to prison, but this could be the. If he loses, it's the end of his political career. And this man has been all about Israeli politics for 40 or 50 years. So he will do anything to cling to power, even finally convince Donald Trump to let him go to. This is what he's been wanting to do for 40 years. Can we please punch Iran in the face? Every other president understood that's a bad idea. You should not do that. And yet Donald Trump was like, oh, I'll try it.

He's like, why not? And Jason, if you could please just. I'm going to go back. I want to try to find this map of Eretz Israel, of Greater Israel, because this is the point that we. The whole idea of context in the mainstream media is not necessarily embraced because the reality is Bibi Netanyahu, from everyone's understanding, is not a religious man, but he uses religious language all the time on two audiences, American right wing Christians, who he knows he can trigger by saying things like, we need to work together so that we can basically get to Armageddon, right? We need to overthrow the Arabs, we need to overthrow the Muslims, because that's the way that we get to Armageddon. He talks that Armageddon language, the Amalek language, but when he's speaking to Israelis, he's speaking to the one group of people who are keeping him in power. Because you're right, there are elections, I believe, coming up not long from now, long from now. And the only way he stays in power is he has to be in war. When he's a war prime minister, they won't vote him out even though he's a crook. Right? He and his wife have faced charges. He's promising the far, far right in Israel, the Smotriches of the world, the Ben Gvirs of the world, who are psycho. They are not. So they believe in this thing that's on the screen, Eretz Israel. They want to take tiny Israel, this little country, and expand it to that. They want to even go up to Turkey and take land from them. They want to be an expansionist government.

Ture (47:28)

And this relates to what we're doing. Because the real point of what we're doing in Iran is not regime change, is not the degradation of their nuclear system. Right. Their nuclear plans. We're just trying to degrade their entire military so that Israel remains the military superior power in the region and can move about destroying Palestine, taking Iraq, taking some of Lebanon, taking some of Syria, taking some of Egypt and creating this Greater Israel. They have been growing ever since they landed in Palestine. And the vision is they will continue to grow for decades to come.

Joy Reid (48:09)

It is an expansionist nuclear power. And here's what's so wild. And just talk a little bit about the way when we were at msnbc, I can remember sitting on set when the discussion began about Israel and Gaza and Russia and Ukraine, and there was an attempt to make Gaza or the Hamas the equivalent of the Kremlin. And that in these two countries, the Kremlin. Kremlin and Hamas are on one side and the Ukrainians and the Israelis are on the other. And I can remember saying, no, it's the other way around. Bibi Netanyahu is the Vladimir Putin in this situation, an expansionist nuclear power looking to take his current territory and expand it. Then again, European. This is a European specialty. Europe did this when Hitler decided to become an expansionist European power and eat up Poland and eat up Austria and eat up. This is what the Kremlin is doing, right? Putin wants to eat up the stands, bring them back in. He wants to eat up Ukraine. He wants to expand. Bibi Netanyahu is essentially behaving like every other expansionist European autocrat throughout history. Stalin, all of them wanted to do this. And also, by the way, Trump, you know where I'll expand into Canada.

As far as we know, he's in Berlin.

Too on the nose. Look, the fantasy is that Israel is constantly being attacked by all these other brown Muslim people in the region and they need America to protect them because they're the one white democratic nation in the region and everybody else hates them because they're democratic and Jewish. In reality, the other countries of the region hate them because they are oppressing Palestine. You are oppressing our brothers and sisters in Palestine. That's why we hate you. But Israel is the most bellicose nation in the region by far. They are the ones who are attacking other nations. Lebanon, Qatar, like Syria constantly attacking other nations. They're attacking in Lebanon right now.

Joy Reid (50:34)

Yes. So the notion decimating Lebanon, decimating that

country, the notion that they, that, that, that we need to be protected from Iran is backwards. The world and especially the Middle east needs to be protected from Israel.

Joy Reid (50:48)

And the reality is the one reason that they're allowed to get away with this is they have a permanent partner on the UN Security Council. Even though, by the way, and I think people need to understand this, Israel will not sign the international non proliferation treaties that we want Iran to sign. They won't sign it. They didn't admit they even had nuclear weapons. The Dimona reactor was told. John F. Kennedy said, you can't build nukes, you can't have nukes. They were like, we're getting them anyway, buddy. They got them anyway. And they will not sign the non proliferation treaties. They will not. We. And they are kind of alone in refusing to sign things like the treaty that says you can't torture people because they're like, but we are going to torture. They are literally attacking civilians, constantly obliterating their universities, their museums, their antiquities. They're now doing that in Lebanon as they did in Gaza. There is no power that's like that anywhere in the world except Russia.

Ture (51:41)

That's right. We have gone, America, we have gone backwards in our relation to Iran in this situation. Before we had an ayatollah who, you know, stipulated all the horrible things, but he did not think that they really should become a nuclear power. And he was willing to sit at a table or at least have his, his emissary sit at a table and try to negotiate with the United States. Now we have somebody much younger, his son, who is not interested in negotiating at all, is probably much more interested in becoming a nuclear power because as Hasan Piker says, the Middle east would be a lot safer and Iran would be a lot safer if they were a nuclear power. So we have gone completely backwards in our relationship with Iran. They are entirely different than we would want them to be. And I don't even imagine how do we get to the End of this. Trump thinks he will decide the end of this. Iran is clearly saying, oh, no, no, no. We are going to take this on for a very long time to where you guys are like, we are so sorry we came in there. We are never coming back. They're not just going to stop because America stops. That's not the way things go in the Middle East.

Joy Reid (52:54)

That's right.

Ture (52:54)

We will keep shelling your bases and Israel for as long as we want until you are crying. And the Strait of Hormuz, that's like days left for the rest of the world starts freaking out about the economic impact of that. So they're playing. They're doing economic warfare, asymmetrical warfare. They're going to keep going on. They know Trump does not want endless war. They fought Iraq for 10 years.

Joy Reid (53:23)

That's right, by the way. Fought Iraq for a decade while we were arming Iraq with chemical weapons. So they were getting hit by the chemical weapons we were sending to Saddam Hussein. The games we have played in this region against Iran. This is an ancient society.

Ture (53:40)

Yes.

Joy Reid (53:40)

And I think it's really important to remember that, you know, Israel is a relatively new country, but there have been Jewish people that lived in that region for a long time. The Mizrahi Jew, Jews. Right. They've been there for a long time. They're North African. They're from the region. Note that none of them tried to become an expansionist power. It is this class of upper echelon people like Benjamin Netanyahu, whose family came from Poland, who brought this European sensibility of expansionist nuclear armed hegemony. They exported that same ethic, that same ethos of expansionist, racist, ethnocentric ethnocracy. That idea. They took it and brought it over there and they took it to a region that had had multiple religions and people of other ethnicities that were able to live there. This is a European ethos that is being imposed in the Middle east by people like Bibi and by some previous prime ministers too, who say, we're superior, we get to expand.

Ture (54:47)

Yeah. I mean, yes, America's military is bigger and stronger and more expensive, but their pain threshold is far higher than ours. They could lose a lot of people. I mean, there's not the same democratic relationship to the leadership and the people. If 100Americans come home in bags, we're going to throw the president out.

Joy Reid (55:09)

Yes.

Ture (55:10)

They don't face that same problem. Right. So they. And, you know, just the way things go in the Middle east, they are willing to lose People, they are willing to lose buildings. They are willing to accept a lot more pain. We are extraordinarily sensitive. We've lost. Is it 13 people in this thing now? Let it get. Let it get to be like 25 or 30.

Joy Reid (55:31)

That's right.

Ture (55:32)

Americans would be like, what are we to. Even the. Even the Magas are like, what are we doing? You said we weren't doing this. You now we're doing this. We're losing lots of people. Let some Kansas more Kansans come home. Let some more Ohioans come home vertical instead of horizontal. And then they'll start to be like, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. What the fuck are we doing?

Joy Reid (55:52)

And the thing that's so kind of wild is that Pete Hegseth, who's tried to sort of turn the military into a bunch of dude bros and keg bros, he's made it very clear that he doesn't want you or your kids. He doesn't want me or my kids to. He wants white men to be the sole heart and bodies of the military. He doesn't want our people. They want just them. And so what he's saying to the MAGA base is, you're the one who. We want to be heroes by dying for Bibi Netanyahu's war, but for his political survival, you're going to die for Bibi Netanyahu. And I don't think they know that or when they find out that they'll be happy.

Ture (56:35)

I think he's also. Hegseth created a culture that they're going to do lawless things. And I don't know that he's telling them to do lawless things, but he's telling them, you have immunity, you have impunity, do whatever you want. The gloves are off. We're not going to fight in some PC Woke thing. And we did that to protect ourselves. What we did in bombing that girl's school. Even if America wants to tell Americans it was a mistake, we have destroyed a lot of any smidgen of goodwill we might have, and we don't have any. But the notion that America is the Great Satan, that story will be the avatar of that notion for the next generation and the generation and generation of not just Iranians, but everyone in the Middle east, they will hear in that story again, all they have to talk about name the girls school, and everyone know, yep, America is the great Satan.

Joy Reid (57:29)

You need to be careful in war to not do those sorts of things. And the notion that this was bad intel because it was a military base 10 years ago.

Joy Reid (57:42)

It was a double tap. And I bet it was on purpose because they wanted to show the Iranians quickly how depraved we can be, how craven we can be, how mean we can be. We don't want it with the US they'll drop a bomb on our girls school. And it didn't work because they didn't know the enemy. They didn't know that the Iranians are like, hey, Israel does that kind of shit all the time. We're still going here.

Joy Reid (58:05)

That's right. And Israel does it quite deliberately. Bombing schools, bombing antiquities, bombing universities because they want to demoralize. Bombing soccer fields because they want to make the people feel completely demoralized and to lose their humanity. But what we've seen is these images of kids in Gaza playing in the rubble and putting up a jerry rigged swing set. Because people are not going to lose their humanity when they actually have faith. And it's sort of ironic to me that these people call themselves Christians, but they, as you said, will fold very quickly in the face of death and destruction. Whereas these people's faith seems quite a bit stronger than they believe in themselves. Before I let you go, I have to play this video. I didn't get to play it for Representative Krishnamurthy. Sorry, I'm sniffling. This is the Fetterman. We got to talk very quickly about Ferman. This is B2. Whenever you get a chance, Jason, let me know when you have it. I'll just take my time and let. He's paid by Israel and, and whatever he gets paid allows him to take in whatever shame and humiliation that, that a normal human being would feel when someone says to them, how can you support this genocide?

Yeah, here he is. You mentioned how you differ from your colleagues, your other fellow Democrats, every Senate Democrat except you signed a letter today to Secretary Hegseth asking for an investigation into that strike on a girls school in Iran. Why did you not sign that letter? Sign Monitor. Well, because we all agree that is a tragedy having the school hit. Absolutely. And we all agree now for an investigation. What I, what I don't agree with the rest of my colleagues in the House is that it's, it's a war of choice or it's dumb or all the things that my colleagues have described.

it's, it's a Good thing. And I support that. So we agree that we know and actually the Pentagon is already investing it. But they didn't seem to be as concerned about the Iranians massacring tens of thousands of their young people just a couple of weeks ago too. So it's, that's, we agree on many parts of it, but we both disagree. I mean we all disagree that it's, I think it's a good thing and every single other Democrat in the caucus caused it. All kinds of negative terms. Yeah, we did cover. You can keep on the protest in Iran extensively here at cnn. Obviously they, they said a lot about how internally people felt about the regime. But just to be clear, you do believe if the United States was responsible that the Pentagon should acknowledge that they accidentally hit a girls school. I've said that, I said it seems that they've already acknowledging all those things. I think largely that letter, it was rendered moot at this point after what that's already come out. Now the, the Pentagon has agreed that they were behind that. And I don't know what, what your, your network just talked about, but what I'm saying that, that you know, whether like it's the New York Times, they're making it more and more trying to convince America that this, this has been a disaster or things are out of control. And that's just categorically not true. On. Okay. I just think it deserves coverage obviously given the, the number of. So John Fetterman and Ture's computer, his computer went down. I think he might need to plug it in. His computer went down. Sorry about that. Technology is a lie. We love Ture, but yeah, I hope that the people of Pennsylvania, if you're a Democrat in the great state of Pennsylvania, you kind of got got when this man ran as a Democrat because it's Very clear that he is a MAGA Republican. Everything that he's done in terms of his votes, he's shown that he is not at all what he ran as. He actually ran as a progressive Democrat, and that was obviously not true. It is quite clear that he is MAGA to the bone. And you should think about that when he comes up for reelection, whether you want him to remain as your United States Senator or whether he should run as a Republican, which to me he is. I don't understand how he's a Democrat. I don't know what Joe Manchin. Lawrence o' Donnell used to point this out all the time. As much as Joe Manchin was a pain in the tuckus to the Democratic caucus, he voted with The Democrats like 98% of the time. Now, he would make some of those votes painful, but Joe Manchin, for the most part, would vote the way that the leadership in the Senate, the Democratic leadership, wanted him to vote. This guy is more like. What's the lady's name from Arizona? He's more like her. Not Carrie Lake. Oh, God. Don't I get. Oh, she's not from Arizona. Who you talking about? The congresswoman who was there and she used to wear the funny hats. She used to dress Crazy Cinema. Kirsten Cinema is her name. Kristen Cinema. He's more like a Christian cinema who would just flagrantly defy anything that the party wanted, if the party wanted it, if Democratic, if the Democratic base wanted it, he was against it and it didn't almost matter what it was. But when you look at the way that autocrats behave sometimes, they have multiple reasons for doing the things they do. I think in Donald Trump's case, it was partly appeasing his donors, many of whom are super hawks when it comes to Israel and are super beholden to and care about Israel and want Israel to have its way. Super Zionists, they're big donors to him and he wants to do what they say. The mirror and adelson of the world. I think it's partly that. I think it's also stupidity. I think he was talked into it by people like Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth. Pete Hegseth would love to clearly have a bloody war where he could try out his theory that the US should not restrain itself when conducting a military action, that they should be unrestrained and not worry about little things like laws and the law of war. I think he enjoys the idea of taking bloody action in the Caribbean and blowing up ships at will and doing whatever he wants, because these are things he couldn't do when he was in the military as an active duty troop. And he now feels that this is his opportunity to fight wars the way he would have liked to fight them, unrestrained by legality or the ideas of humanity. So I think that's part of it. I definitely think part of the reason that Donald Trump did this war is that he needed a distraction from the Epstein files. The Epstein files were bedeviling him because more and more information was coming out about not just Epstein's depravity, but his own alleged depravity. These stories of Donald Trump allegedly, and we have to say allegedly, because these are just reports that people gave to the FBI over the years, many of them in 2019, the year that Epstein was arrested. So when somebody like him who's offended before gets arrested, then people sometimes when they know the person is now incarcerated, will come forward with their stories. And some of the people who came forward came forward with stories about Epstein and Trump. And some of those stories were horrific. The allegations that Donald Trump committed sexual abuse of not just women, but children, that is in the Epstein files. And I think Donald Trump could not tolerate people like me, people like those in the media, even people like his own supporters, the podcast bros who have been his people talking about it was something he just couldn't tolerate. And so he decided he needed something big, something big that would take the Epstein files off of the front pages. And this war has certainly done that. And it's clear that both he and Bibi are willing to fight to the last American to get what they want politically. Each of them wants something politically. They're both corrupt men who are accused of vast corruption. Mimi Netanyahu is accused of fraud. He and his wife, they're both allegedly people who are taking financial advantage of their leadership positions in government. They're both people who seem unconcerned with human beings and what happens to them and are willing to let other people suffer and die in order for them to get power and get what they want. And both of them need to be in office to. In order to stay out of prison. Yes, Donald Trump is not prosecutable for anything he did as president, thanks to John Roberts. But some of the things he's doing may still be prosecutable because he's committing such sort of blatant violations that he may run up against things that he cannot escape. Some of those things might include anything he might have done that was illegal when it comes to Jeffrey Epstein. And so Donald Trump has a lot of different reasons why he may want to be at war. But then if you go and you look internally at the Trump regime and sort of the things that they've done in order to get here, their willingness to lie, their willingness to cheat, their willingness to lie to their base in order to get here, in order for Donald Trump to do the thing he needed to do in order to stay out of jail, right? In order to stay out of prison, he needed to be president. Just like Bibi Netanyahu, in order to stay out of prison, needs to be prime minister for life, Donald Trump needs the same thing. This is why he's talking about Trump 2028, Trump 2032. Because as long as he's president, he's untouchable. He can steal as much as he wants. He can cut crypto deals, he can do blatant corruption. He can carve up the Middle east and give some to Witkoff and some to Jared. He can. He can carve up Iran, I guess he assumes, and give some to whatever his oligarch friends want it. He can carve up Greenland, something Bibi Netanyahu is mused about as well, and give it to his AI friends to plum to. For the. For the minerals they need to build AI factories. He could let the prison companies, who also gave him money incarcerate hundreds of thousands of people. They're not mass deporting them. They're just throwing them in private prisons so they can make money so they stay on side. He can let the Doge boys steal our data and feed it into a private company's AI build, which seems to be what happened to all of our Social Security data. There are a lot of reasons why he did it, but what Donald Trump did in order to make it possible for him to come back were some really hideous things. He was willing to do unthinkable things and say unthinkable things in order to claw his way back into power. One of the things that he did was to lie about immigrants, was to say that immigrants were poisoning the blood of our country. That's Nazi talk, directly out of the Nazi playbook. Immigrants were vermin. That immigrants should be feared. That if immigrants came from Africa or the Middle east, they came from shithole countries, that we needed more immigrants from Europe, but we weren't getting enough. He was willing to put those immigrants at risk by demonizing them to the point where other Americans, where Americans were afraid of them and were willing to maybe hurt them. It's the reason that right now, I have to say, you know, that's why we did that story earlier about that attack by a Lebanese man whose family was killed, who then drove into a synagogue. Donald Trump is willing to let a lot more Jewish people die. A lot more Jewish people get targeted. He doesn't care if what he's doing in the Middle east, what he and Bibi are doing, makes the entire, you know, Muslim world erupt. God forbid they destroy the Al Aqsa mosque. I'm really hoping they don't do that or that Israel drops nukes on Iran. There's nothing they wouldn't do. But Donald Trump is willing to fight to the last Jewish person, too. Let's just be clear. He's willing to stoke such rage that people, individuals, not because of their religion, but just because of their own personal rage, may take action. They're willing to risk terrorist attacks. They're also threatening that they're going to be terrorist attacks because they want Americans to hate Iranians and to start having, like, the scatological rage at Iranians who haven't done anything to us that they want us to. They're. They're starting it up. You can see the machine starting to turn it's those Muslims, it's those Arabs, it's those Iranians. They're going to blow up stuff in, in, in, in, in, in Los Angeles. They're going to do terrorism. And then every item, every individual thing that happens, then they can load that onto their already existing and building case that all Muslims, all Iranians, all brown people, all people who come from the global south are dangerous. Right? So they're willing to do that. They're willing to do that because they absolutely need for Americans somehow to support the war, to get excited about the war. Because if they don't get excited about the war, if they don't start to support the war, it risks Donald Trump's party losing the midterms. It's why he's obsessing about the SAVE act. Because the economy is crap, the war is unpopular even with MAGA people. Thomas Massie is probably gonna get reelected because even MAGA people hate this war. The tariffs were a failure and have ruined the economy. Oil prices are shooting up. I paid 415 a gallon to put gas in my truck the other day. It's high everywhere. People are suffering. People lost their Medicaid, people lost their Obamacare. There's nothing for the Republican Party to present to voters in November to say, you should keep us in power. Democrats have won, I want to say 28 special elections since Trump got elected. Republicans have won none. They won no special elections. They won that one narrow race, which is in a Republican district, I think in North Carolina. They barely won that. They barely won that. Democrats are running the table and they're afraid that if Democrats take over the House and God forbid the Senate, the next thing that will happen, and honestly the next thing that should happen are wall to wall hearings. They may not be able, even if they just get the House, they may be, maybe they can't pass any laws because the Senate won't pass them, won't even take them up. But House Democrats could do. The one thing they're really good at, which is hearing. The one thing Democrats are really good at is expository hearings. And if those expository hearings happen, we're going to have Epstein victim after Epstein victim after Epstein victim testifying on Capitol Hill. That's much ctv. We're going to have maybe the doctors who treated those Epstein victims subpoenaed and dragged before the cameras must see tv. We may have some of the business partners, maybe some of the AI billionaires who were floating around on Epstein island and going to chill with him. Maybe they subpoena them. Maybe they subpoena Elon. Subpoena Elon. Maybe they subpoena Peter Thiel. Democrats are good at that. That is the one thing they're good at. And if they get the House, he knows they're going to create a TV show that will rival the OJ Trial in how much it exposes the depravity, the disgustingness, the grossness of Donald Trump. They could do hearings on the war, just bring general after general to say, anybody could have told you they were going to mine the space straight to Hormuz. And we're going to have. You could do that all day. But the Epstein one, I think, is the one he fears the most. So Donald Trump was willing to do crazy things to get back in office. Let me read you all before I continue my thought. Let me read you what Donald Trump just post. I don't like reading his crap. I'm just reading it right here. He says, moments ago, at my direction, the United States Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle east and totally obliterated every military target in Iran's crown jewel, Kharg Island. Now, see, I would have to have that verified before I would read any more of this because I don't know. I have no idea whether that's true. So I don't know. But one of the things that Donald Trump was willing to do and did was he demonized a particular group of people in a way that I don't think anyone has ever really seen before. And I'm not going to play the tapes of it because I think it's so gross. He decided to make Haitian people the avatars for bad immigrants. Immigrants you don't want in the country. Right. Because he needed to get back in. And so he demonized them to the point where he claimed. And JD Vance, who was the senator from Ohio, agreed with him in claiming that Haitian immigrants in Ohio were eating people's cats and dogs, eating their pets. This was such an insane thing to say. It was based on a white supremacist who started the idea. He and J.D. vance picked it up and they would never back down from it. That has now cascaded into something that may be even worse. There were people who were afraid to leave their homes. There were people who were being demonized not just in Ohio, but all over the country. Haitian immigrants who come from one of the. The countries that is the most unstable, thanks to the United States, in the whole world, and who needed temporary protected status in order to stay here. Well, now, sorry, Jason, you can put that back up. The regime is now stripping those protections from Haitian people. This will affect 350,000 plus Haitian immigrants who will be subject to return to Haiti based on nothing other than Donald Trump's desperation to be president again and the subsequent demonization of these people who he's now going to subject to God knows what poverty or violence if they're forced to return home. Joining me now to discuss is Tessa Petty, Executive director of the Florida Immigrant Coalition, and Farah Larryeux, a Haitian American communications strategist, community leader and TPS recipient who's been a leading voice in the fight for a pathway to citizenship for TPS and DACA holders. Thank you both for being here. Tessa, I will start with you. What does it mean to have TPS revoked and what kind of a rapid schedule of return would that potentially create?

So if they revoke the TPS, that's 250,000 people who will fall out of status. What it means is that they immediately become subject to detention and deportation. There are not enough beds to have all these people in detention. There's about two flights, two deportation flights a week, I believe, going to Haiti, to Capaycin, which is a city that

now is already overcrowded.

Tessa Pettit (81:30)

What that would also mean is, is a complete for a state like Florida,

because that's where, that's where I'm at.

Tessa Pettit (81:38)

It's a complete, a shutdown of businesses,

a shutdown of our health care system,

Tessa Pettit (81:46)

and also a complete disaster for our housing market. About 10 to 12,000 Haitians on TPS have mortgages, are homeowners, and we're also talking thousands of children that you're sending back to a country where, you know, there's a lot of gender based violence. There's been a 4,000% increase of abuse on children, particularly sexual abuse on children and girls.

And so, you know, there's, it's, it's

a horrific situation, should that happen, but it takes effect immediately.

And so what we would then see, I'm assuming, Farrell, Larry, and if you could just put, you know, turn your, your speakers down so. Because we hear a little bit of feedback from your speaker. So just turn your speaker down. If you have headphones, put them on. That would even be helpful as well. What would that mean for someone like you?

Tessa Pettit (82:44)

Well, it would be, it would destroy my life. I've been living in this country for 20 years and I built my, my adult life is in the United States and I have built my career, my life, my business. And he will destroy my dreams.

Too.

And actually, it's already destroying my dreams because instead of focusing on building myself as a human being, pursuing my dreams,

it take.

It takes a toll on me mentally. And also it frustrates me because I cannot focus on what I want to do as a human being. Just because. Based on racism, prejudice against Haitian, based on Donald Trump craziness to. Just to show that the United States is for white people and black people are not welcome or certain group of people are not welcome. So it outraged me to see that a president has one agenda, destroying people's life, and that's not United States.

Joy Reid (83:59)

Yeah. And there were people in the chat saying that Cubans get preferential treatment, Venezuelans maybe as well, but not anymore, Tessa. I mean, Donald Trump, they need numbers. And if you look at three of the biggest groups or four of the biggest groups of immigrants in the country, it is Cuban Americans. Cuban immigrants is a large group, if you want numbers. Venezuelans is a large group, Haitian immigrants are a large group, and Chinese immigrants are a large group. They're just looking for numbers. And so they don't really care about those other groups either. But Haitians, to the point that Farrah just made, Tessa, have been especially demonized over time. Right. I talked about this eating cats and dogs BS that JD Vance and Donald Trump sold in order to get back in. It was one of the ways that they tried to win Ohio. What did that do to the communities that you represent?

Tessa Pettit (84:54)

So it had, to a certain extent, it had a reverse effect. Right. Because these attacks were so outrageous and, and also unbelievable. Of course, you, you will always find people who will, who will accept any nonsense and take it as fact. Right. But what it did also is that it brought attention to a community where, I mean, a lot of people did know that Haitians had rebuilt Springfield, Ohio.

Joy Reid (85:22)

Right.

Tessa Pettit (85:22)

A lot of people didn't know, didn't imagine that there would be a community of white folks that would stand and say, we want these people, people to stay because they have improved our lives. They didn't expect that. And so that brought us, you know, that brought some light on who Haitians are. I mean, there are folks who have been around for a long time, folks who've been around in the 80s, they probably still carried some, you know, back back in the day, bias against Haitians when we were accused of having hiv, you know, having brought HIV to the West.

Joy Reid (85:56)

Yeah. And I know that a lot of

the, our political history and the, the poverty that exists in the country have led also lead a lot of people to think that it's because we're unable

Joy Reid (86:08)

to lead our own country. Right.

Tessa Pettit (86:10)

And that is for those who don't know that we are in a situation we're in because we're not. We're still not an independent nation.

Joy Reid (86:19)

Right.

Tessa Pettit (86:19)

We're a nation where our governance and everything that happens since 1986 has been. We've been under the, the governance of the United States. So you think it kind of brought the light to the fact that we are hard workers.

Joy Reid (86:36)

Right.

Tessa Pettit (86:37)

And with the cancellation of tps, we've seen a lot of articles of people from or non Haitians and non immigrants saying how, how empathetic we are, how supportive we are. That's why the elder care system here in the United States were the first one to bring the alarm and say Haitians can't go because our elders depend on them.

Joy Reid (87:00)

Right.

Tessa Pettit (87:00)

Because they care in a very particular way, because caring for our elders is part of our, of our culture. So, you know, it's bringing light on who we are and what we do and what we've brought and what we contribute.

Joy Reid (87:13)

And so I think it's, you know,

Tessa Pettit (87:15)

it's actually doing the contrary to what they expected. And on top of it, out of everything, who would have thought that there would be a discharge petition in Congress on immigration? And out of all of it, it's for tps, for Haiti, which is something unseen in the history of the U.S. congress. Right. So it's kind of showing that we are loved, we're appreciated, and Americans don't want us to go. And even some Republican congressmen are willing to take a step forward and say

we also want Haitians to stay. Yeah. The interesting thing about it, as you said, I was reading an article about particularly the alarm is going up in Florida, which is the second oldest state, most elderly state in the union, that the home health care industry would collapse without Haitian nurses, who form a very large percentage of the home health care community in terms of the worker base. And so, yeah, and there are a lot of elders who are saying, wait a minute, we won't, we physically won't be able to survive if these amazing nurses go home. And Farrah, I wonder if you could talk about, you know, the life that you have built here. You talked about building a life, building a business, building a family here, this is your home. And talk a little bit about yourself and who you are and what part you play in the community.

Tessa Pettit (88:40)

Well, I came here, United States 2005, and I was sponsored by my husband at that time. It's unfortunate that during the immigration Interview the officer did something wrong and she, she. She forced my husband to say is something that he didn't do because he didn't know that much about immigration. He call us her to say that he was giving me a favor and I didn't know that much. We didn't have money at that time to. To iron attorney. We thought that it was just a. A normal formal administrative procedure and that's what messed up my life. And that also destroyed the marriage because at some point I thought that my husband wanted to hurt me and so I couldn't trust him anymore. And at that time I get to into they withdraw the petition the permanent immigration petition. And then I was to the court proceedings when the TPS I should say when the earthquake happened and migrated TPS TPS to Haiti. And since then I've been on TPS in 2010 but I moved in United in 2005. So I went during that time after the situation at the immigration at the immigration office, the I went into depression. I went into pre depression. I was even suicidal because I, I saw my life collapse because I was meantime when I moved here get married I managed to. To transfer my business here. Back in the days in 80 I was a successful TV host and I was one of the most popular TV hosts and but Haiti was at some point too small for my gym. And I was like this. I mentioned I was very tired of the instability, the political tomo in 80 and the poverty. And I wanted to understand what make United States a great country and if it's what living in Haiti was it was normal. So that's something that also when I move here I move with the idea of to be successful, to learn from the, from the American values and, and how you know, how you build a country. And I was very curious. So all that energy got lost when I had to face the reality of immigration. And that's why now I'm not. I'm no longer afraid and ashamed to talk about my immigration situation because too many people got victim of is a system the immigration. The American immigration system is a system set for to fail people. It's a system. It said that if you don't have money to hire an attorney, the immigration officer has the authority to treat you as a criminal, as nobody. And then they don't care because there's no accountable accountability for immigration officers neither. And then there's also this narrative, this false narrative in the system that oh, if you're undocumented that means you have not done the right thing and people don't know American. The American need to know that actually my my ex husband who filed the petition for me he was born in United States from Haitian Paris. He didn't even know himself. And we got shocked by this situation. Fast forward with TPS in 2010 I was about to rebuild my life and to go to find a job to to be able to pay my bills and to continue my dreams with my business. I revamped the company the my communication company. I'm still in process of building it but I but everything got slowed down because of my immigration status. And then for years we thought that Congress both parties will see the urgency for immigration reform but instead they use our life for political games. Democrats on the side always promise they're gonna do immigration reform but we don't see them really act upon of that Republican they have this false narrative about immigrants. And then they made both parties make promises and and many times many people, many legislators, many politicians that do not Trump or did jet events lies about immigrant just for political game. And we are tired of that. And the American people need to know that. And that's why immigration should be always in the front line of conversation about the future of United States. Now do not Trump want to deport 350,000 Asian immigrants? And the claim is Christine, it is in the best interest of United States. Actually the worst interest of United States. Because when sending these people in Haiti, Haiti cannot take care of them.

Even take care of those who are here living in Haiti. Right now you're sending 350000 people. Most of these people they're gonna become target of terrorist groups. And then bold the terrorist group well, they're gonna kidnap us. They're gonna get funding from kidnapping. They're going to extort us. They're going to. They're going to be able to get more weapons. And so this they become a threat for not only Haiti, but also for United States. And America needs to understand that.

Joy Reid (94:38)

Yeah. Indeed. To close this out. Tessa, what do we need to do? What would you like to see us do in response to all of this?

Tessa Pettit (94:46)

In response to all of this? We need to get. We need to stand as a people and get every single Democrat member of Congress to sign the discharge petition. We're short on time. Right there is the Haiti TPS is now in the hands of the Supreme Court judges. And we've seen what the Supreme Court has done with previous TPS cases.

Joy Reid (95:08)

Yeah.

Tessa Pettit (95:09)

And the loudest we can be if anyone has a member of Congress who's a Democrat, the right thing to do is call them and ask them, did you charge sign the discharge petition? And if you didn't, you have, you know, by Monday you need to add your signature. And even if we have, you have a Republican member of Congress is to ask them to sign that discharge petition.

Joy Reid (95:31)

So per the UK Independent Elon Musk's disciples in Doge, the so called Department of Government Efficiency, which again does not exist, were embedded across federal agencies with a mandate to fire thousands of public employees and radically cut federal spending. Remember, they were supposed to save $2 trillion to make room for the major tax cut for the super rich, what they called the big beautiful bill. The big beautiful bill was a giant $4.7 trillion tax cut that went almost entirely to the rich and the super rich. And they were going to pay for that by finding $2 trillion in savings through DOGE. They didn't do that. They found like maybe $100 million in savings. They didn't do it at all. So they ended up gutting Medicaid instead. Right. But back to Doge, when Musk, who is the man who donated $230 million to Donald Trump when he deployed Doge into the National Endowment for the Humanities, which is one of the federal agencies that provides vital financial support for research and arts programs, Elon staff abruptly choked off more than 1400 grants, eliminated tens of millions of dollars in public funding within less than a month. More than 10 hours of newly released video testimony from January uncovers how two Doge operators relied on ChatGPT and their own largely uninformed judgments to make sweeping decisions about those funding cuts. They were loading information, basic information about the grants into ChatGPT and using that to decide what to cut. The depositions stem from a lawsuit that was filed by the Modern Language association, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the American Historical Association. We told you about that lawsuit on Wednesday. That lawsuit required these Doge members to sit for a deposition. And the two whose depositions have been made public are Justin Fox and Nathan Kavanaugh, by the way, neither of whom had any experience whatsoever working in the government, let alone in grant administration. They knew nothing about grants. They're not like PhDs who knew anything about anything. Sorry, I have a cold, so I have to make sure I don't have a runny nose. We don't want a runny nose. We don't put that. The only grants that the Doge Bros. Did not mess with involved grants for events surrounding America's 250th anniversary and the National Garden of Heroes. But her emails. But this young wanker. Behold. Behold. Behold the meritocracy. There it is. Behold the meritocracy. That's merit. A couple of young turks. A couple of young dudes who apparently appear to have no other qualification but that they are white, male and fans of Elon Musk. That's it. And they're telling learned scholars that their grants are inadequate because ChatGPT said so. Let me read just one more thing from the Independent. When it came to deciding which grants they were culling, they didn't turn to field experts or consult with anyone who did. Nobody asked the Doge team to use ChatGPT, but they appeared to have relied on the results anyway. Kavanaugh admitted the one you just saw that he does not have any experience in the scholarly peer review process. And he said the thing you heard that I think any person have enough judgment after reading books and being well informed outside of traditional experience to make judgments about obvious things like the grant that literally lists DEI and a subscription. Asked by the attorney which books inform those judgments, there were no books, he said, unquote. These are the people that are making decisions about how your federal tax dollars are being spent. They were getting salaries that your tax dollars were funding to cut taxpayer programs that your tax dollars were funding that experts had previously approved because they were trying to find $2 trillion in savings so that they could cut Elon Musk's taxes and Donald Trump's taxes and Don Junior's taxes and all the Epstein classes taxes. All the Epstein class needed a tax cut. And so to get it, they found these dude bros who they claimed were qualified to decide who gets to have your tax money and who doesn't. I think we have a dude bro problem in America right now. People with no knowledge, no experience, who think they're superior to others because of their demographics. They think, I look in the mirror, I see a white guy and I must be the smartest guy in the room. There they go. These 20 somethings were deciding whether PhD scholars could get grants. Okay, I think speaking of bros, Keith Edwards is at it again. Keith Edwards, if you don't know, is a very popular liberal podcaster who posted this and is getting cooked on X Twitter for posting it. Basically counseling his followers not to give money to Sean Harris, who we had on the show, the former Marine, former, sorry army sergeant general who is running in Marjorie Taylor Green's district. Midas Touch posted about it. He's doing a lot of interviews. He's getting booked all over the place. And he said, don't give any money to this guy. It's. He's going to lose by a lot. Now he's getting attacked for it because people. He did the same thing with Jasmine Crockett. He said, don't, don't Give her, you know, don't support her. He's going to lose. She's going to lose. So here's my challenge with Keith. There's a trend here. That's one thing people are noticing. There's a certain kind of candidate that he does like to troll and say, well, this person won't. Can't win. But number one, what is your expertise on that? I'm just wondering what's your actual political campaign expertise? Because last I checked, it's also very unlikely James Talarico can win in Texas. Right. So if you're going to say Jasmine Crockett is unlikely to be able to defeat the Republican in a red, super red state like Texas, it's also unlikely that Talarico can do it either, because we've run that experiment before. His name is Beto o'. Rourke. Right. So if you just look at the trends of what he's doing, he's saying that. But if you look at Georgia, I went through and I went in a wormhole. Because when he said that, I'm like, it's interesting that you would say that about Georgia 14. I want to talk about Georgia 6, Georgia 6th, the district which is represented by Lucy McBath, who Jason actually ran into at the People's State of the Union. Brilliant, wonderful woman. Her son was killed by a white supremacist, Basically a white guy who was angry that he was playing his music. I won't call the white white supremacist. I don't know if he's a white supremacist. I shouldn't say that. He's killed by a man who was angry that his hip hop music was too loud. And her son, who was a teenager, was in his car with his friends playing their hip hop music. This guy decides that their music was too loud. He ordered them to turn it down. They didn't turn it down. He shot into the car and killed her son. She decided to take her pain. This is her only child, and she decided to take her pain and. And turn it into service. She ran for office in Georgia's 6th district. I know somebody who grew up in Georgia's 6th district. The former mayor of Columbus, Georgia, grew up there, who is a lovely friend of mine, white lady, who grew up in a conservative family in a conservative 6 district, which was Newt Gingrich's district. I went in a wormhole about Georgia 6 because it has been read almost the entire time it has existed in its current form. And she flipped that district when she first won it. It was a Very, very red district. It was Newt Gingrich's district. She then lost that seat briefly to a Republican and then won it back. It was a pickup. It was a, it was a blue pickup. And so what I will say to Keith Edwards and other people who are attacked, who are opining about who people should give money to, number one, it's not your money. People can give money to whoever they want. And if people believe in Sean Harris, particularly in a district where the current sitting congresswoman has turned against Trump, which means that she's doing that in a community where at least some of the people listen to her, now, she may back the very, very pro Trump Republican, or maybe she won't. Because what I'm seeing on the MAGA side is a real breach, a real, almost, you have to call it a civil war between the people. Like Marjorie Greene, who is mad as hell about Donald Trump failing his base on the Epstein files. Clearly that was a lie. When he said he was going to release the Epstein files, he didn't. She was for releasing it. She is mad as hell about the tariff they're breaking her district. She said her own kids can't afford health care. She's out here. Other than some of the issues, which I still deeply disagree with her. She's out here sounding like a Democrat. She's against this war. She's against AIPAC. And AIPAC's not seeming control over our president and much of our Congress. She too, like me, believes that AIPAC should register as a foreign lobby. They're in favor of a foreign government. Why aren't they registering as a foreign lobby? She and I actually agree on that. Georgia 14 is not the Georgia 14 of even a year ago. It's a district in Georgia, a state that is getting hammered by the tariffs and the terrible economy Donald Trump has created in which the state has two Democratic senators. Again, this was a red state. Neither of those two men should have been electable. If you were listening to Keith Edwards, you wouldn't have given money to, to Osof or Warnock because that was a red state. If you had listened to him, you would think, Louisiana's a red state. Don't give John Bel Edwards any money. Louisiana been red. Weirdly enough. John Bel Edwards was the governor of Louisiana for a while. If you listen to him, if you just say, I'm going to go by what the Cook political report says, it's R plus whatever, you would say, Doug Jones ain't got no chance. That dude, the judge, Roy Moore, he's definitely gonna win. In Alabama. But Judge, he actually won. Doug Jones won that race. That was a very improbable race in Alabama. You would have said if you believed. If you just listen to someone like him, you shouldn't give any money to Talarico because that is a deeply red state that has not been represented by a Democrat for a generation. So you wouldn't give any money to anyone who's running in a red state by that logic. So what I would say is you're being very particular, Keith, about this trolling of specific kinds of candidates. You got to explain to me, somebody who's worked on a couple of campaigns, why he's not electable. And he had a guy. He posted a video of a guy, seemingly very nice gentleman, who then went through and did all the probabilities. I don't believe in probabilities. I've worked on campaigns. Campaigns are about math. They're not about probabilities. They're simply about math. Can candidate A get more people to leave their house and go to the polls and vote than candidate B? That's all elections are. Which is why there's a black woman in Newt Gingrich's seat in Georgia. And she shouldn't have been able to win. Not just the empathy. People might. You know that district is not majority black, right? There are members of Congress who demographically shouldn't even fit their districts. Do you know that of the four black men who were in the House, the four black Republicans, they have none left because two of them have left to run for governor? Brian debirdah. You know, none of them represent majority black districts. None of the black men do. They represent majority white districts. And statistically, if you look at racially determinative voting, America is a. A country that has, like, racial determinant vote. None of them should be elected, but they did get elected. So nothing that you say about campaigns is true until you actually run the experiment of the campaign. So Sean Harris has just as much chance of winning that seat as anyone has a winning any seat. It's just a matter of whether he can mathematically get more people to vote for Sean Harris than will vote for the Republican in a seat and in a state where the MAGA base is destabilized as hell. Don't troll. Vote and don't troll. If you don't have any information that directly implicates the race. If you're not from maybe even Georgia, I don't know. If you're not from Georgia and you don't know that district, I wouldn't personally be out there telling people, don't give money to folks that want to give money to somebody who might be able to win that seat. Democrats need to pick up seats, and they're going to have to pick up some seats from Republicans. They're going to have to pick up some red seats. And if this guy matches his district and he matches their energy and he matches even Marjorie Taylor Greene's energy at this point, you just never know. And if you've got the money and you can spare it, I would say support candidates who you feel passionate about, regardless of what the Cook report says or the likelihoods of that person winning. Because again, a guy named Barack Hussein Obama, middle name Hussein, like Saddam, last name Obama, like Osama, should never have been electable as President of the United States. On what math would anybody have said he could have become president and not just become president? BobiChiullo he won Indiana, North Carolina, Iowa, Florida. He won Florida twice. That should not have been possible. Those red states that are supposedly unwinnable for Democrats, many of them had Democratic United States Senators who, when Obama got elected, Arkansas, these states had a Democrat winning state that was sitting in office. The Democrats lost a bunch of seats. Democrats had a senator in West Virginia. J.D. rockefeller was Senator forever in West Virginia. You know who Joe Manchin took his seat from? West Virginia. They had a Democrat, and he was actually a good Democrat. J.D. jay Rockefeller. Jay Rockefeller was Senator J in West Virginia. Mamdani should have been able to win. This dude ran not just being Muslim, like quiet Muslim, but being like, I'm doing like Muslim things in commercials. Muslim. Somebody just pointed out Ilhan Omar. She represents a majority white district. People thought Rashida Tlaib. I remember when Rashida Tlaib first ran in Detroit, they said, that's a black district. Mommy Chula, you can't win that seat. She can't unwin the seat. Try to take Rashida. Rashida is embedded in that seat. And that is not a majority Muslim or Palestinian district. It's a black district. And Rashida Tlaib straight up represents it. Detroit, it happens all the time. People win unconventional races. And to say don't support is to say don't try. And I have a real problem with that particular kind of trolling, particularly Keith, since you did it before to Jasmine Crockett and it feels trendish. Don't do it because you're not a political expert. I say the same thing. Look, and I'm not saying I'm not picking on you. I say the same thing to Stephen A. Smith, that's not your lane. You know, don't tell people who to give money to. If people believe in this brother, let them give money to him. There are people who don't think Talarico can win and they're still going to send him money. But they are. They saw Beto o', Rourke, we ran the experiment. Beto can win. What makes you think he can win? Why? Because he went on Colbert one time. That don't mean nothing. If he can't get more people to leave their house and go vote for him then are going to vote for the Republican, he too will lose. That is how the elections are. Math. They're not vibes, they're just a math problem. It's why kind of it's good for. That's why the nerds love them. They're just, they're just about math. And the last thing I'll say on this is you have to realize that we are in this moment where MAGA is fracturing in a very weird and interesting way. You've got the Miga of Maga, right? The Ben Shapiro's of the world that are on one side, the. What is his name? The Levin, Mark Levin, the Patrick Ben Davids. Those people, the Lara Loomers, Laura Loomers declared herself to be like the, the queen of the Miga side of Maga that are there. And then you've got like the America Firster Magas, right? The, the Tucker Carlson's, I guess kind of. I don't know what Megan Kelly is. I guess she is whatever she is on, on any given day. Candace Owens, Nicola Fuentes. Nicola Fuentes is kind of leading this movement. And you know what? Nick Fuentes is telling people on his social media to vote for Democrats. He's so mad about this war, he's so disappointed. He even said the immigration thing is over that he's now realized, I don't know how he didn't get the memo that Donald Trump, two right wing white young men who are pissed off about immigration and lied to them and said he was going to do mass deportation and had no intention of doing it. He just turns out to be George W. Bush with money, with more money doing neocon wars in the Middle east, doing, you know, now sending thousands of marines to go risk their lives for Bibi Netanyahu. He's a neocon. He hired a neocon namely Marco Rubio, who don't know what he is on any given day. He's Tea Party one day, lied, said he was a tea partier now he's back to being a neocon. He. And he's right in line with Lindsey Graham, spoiling for war all over the Middle East. They want to take over Iran and Syria. That's not what MAGA signed up for. The MAGA base. And that includes Marjorie Taylor Greene. The reality is I don't know what Georgia 14 looks like now. I don't know what the vibe is. I would like to go and, like, see it on the ground. And you should do that, too. If you want to talk about Georgia 14, you might want to go to Georgia 14 and talk to them. Because I don't know how many of those voters agree with Marjorie Taylor Greene. I don't know how enthusiastic they're going to be to vote for the anointed Trump candidate in a race where when they come home from the voting booth, they can't afford groceries, they can't afford their medicine, they can't afford health care, they can't afford their doctor. They're losing their Medicaid. They. The rural hospitals are closing because of the Medicaid. They're seeing these billionaires clinking champagne glasses and partying at Mar a Lago and building a freaking ballroom on their dime. If I'm maga, I'd be pissed. And I can barely relate to these people, but if I was them, I would feel betrayed. Nick Fuentes is out here ranting every day about how he so did he. He. He's done. He didn't vote for Trump in 2024 because he said he knew he was lying. He knew, he peeped it, that this was a trick, that he was getting white men angry, especially young white men all hopped up on podcast anger, thinking they were going to have mass deportation. There's no mass deportation. They're detaining those people for cash. They're detaining them for cash so they can have human bodies in there so that those private prisons can make money. He don't peep that. He don't peep that this is all about. Once again, another Republican led war. George W. Bush did it. And now Donald Trump is. He's just George W. Bush with the trucker cap on because he doesn't want his hair to blow around in the wind because it's probably not attached. And even Nick Fuentes don't figure that out. And I don't know. He not the brightest. This dude thinks that just having some brown immigrants in the country will destroy white people. He thinks that white Americans are both the greatest thing that's ever been invented and the most powerful intellects on earth and that they're also so fragile they can be destroyed by a handful of Somalis coming to town. Sounds like this is not like he's a genius, but he figured this out. Candace Owens, she done figured it out, honey. She don't run on the, on the pro America first not dying for Israel track. And that's a big chunk of maga. Here's another just piece of news before I let you all go. So Michael Cohen who's been on this show, we've talked to him, you know you have to choose a side now in Maga, right? There's Maga and there's Miga. There's the make Israel great again. People who want to just do all the wars. Whatever BB Netanyahu says, just obey, obey, obey. Right? Those people. Then there's the, what they call the plan trusters. People are like Trump will eventually come back around and deport all the brown people, I promise. Like those people, right? So you got those two camps, right? That sort of Pat Buchanan young but young. They're breaking up into two different camps. Michael Cohen who's been on the show is he went on l on Lara Trump sub podcast. He used to like clown her as Trump not being able to stand her until she kissed his ass. He went on her podcast and said that he is starting a podcast with Lara Loomer which is what like. But that's that side of maga. There's. There's two sides, MAGA and mega. And people are choosing upsides. Watch this space. The war over MAGA is going to be epic. We don't know who is going to win it. But it is not clear to me that the America Firster Tucker side wins it because the neocon side has all the billionaires on their side. Because you heard it earlier, you heard the CEO of Palantir say we're going to create technology that disempowers educated, college educated people and women. That's who votes Democrat. College educated white women vote Democrat. Non college white women vote Republican. College educated men vote slightly more. They don't vote majority Democratic, but working class non college people are the Republican base. He says we're going to empower that base and disempower people who will have no, no more fun, interesting jobs. They're going to all. We're all going to be drones. We're going to make everyone into drones, worker drones. And everybody's going to either like it or not. And then you had Sam Altman from AI say yeah and by the way, intelligence itself will be a commodity. You have to buy information, everything, until you have to purchase it from us or you just don't get it. Only rich people would get it. You have to see what they're setting up. They are setting up an oligarchy, a tech oligarchy, where a small handful of people will be very rich, will be very wealthy, and you have to purchase even thought from them. You will get nothing and you will be a drone. And you will not have a college education driving everybody, particularly women, out. They don't want women in college because it makes them disobedient. And everyone will be an obedient drone and they will be on top. They're setting up Elysium and this is what they're setting up. And even MAGA is figuring. Even Marjorie Taylor Greene done figured that out. And so to me, if I'm in District 14 of Georgia, do I vote for the guy that Trump has anointed that gives me more of that, or do I take a chance with the military veteran, former general who says I will stop it? These are not Left and right is a false binary. Democrat and Republican is a false binary. Joe Biden was a Democrat and let the genocide happen. Dr. It's a binary, but sometimes ain't a real binary. It's right and wrong. And for the smart candidates who say this is right and wrong, we either want to be right. Sounds like the Matrix. We either want to be in an oligarchy, a tech oligarchy, or we don't. We can fight about all the other shit later, but we don't want to be in a technocracy. We don't want Sam Altman and Peter Thiel and Elon Musk and all the freaks who are going to Epstein island, living in Elysium while the rest of us become cattle, because that's what they want. And they've got government contracts and all our Social Security data. And so to me, in that kind of an environment where everyone can see it now, the Veil is off. The hoods are off, baby. The right can see it, the maggots can see it. Damn. Anyone can win a race in that environment. A Democrat could win almost anywhere. Damn. As long as they say, I'll stop that, I'm a watch Sean Harris. If he says, I will put a stop to that shit. You got to fight for every hill. And that Georgia 14 is a hill. And so here's what I would do if I were the Democratic. They aren't very good at this, but if I were them, I would go and calculate. Yesterday I had Stuart Stevens on our. We do a live nerdy thing on substack for just the premium folks who are just super nerdy and want to dig deep. And he said a thing that's very important because he was a campaign strategist on the Republican side, so he knows how they think. He's. He's left them because he can't stand Trump, but he knows how they think. And I love talking to Republicans that are right, that are out of that, out of the life. And he made the point. What you do is you do a cost per voter. It's a c. I'm let you in on some secrets. Cpv. Cost per voter. You count how many eligible voters live in District 14. You calculate by percentage what percent might be with you and what will be the cost based on how much you have to spend on advertising to get those voters out. Right. So if you're in that region in Georgia, where do you buy ads? For instance, do you buy in Atlanta? Will that touch? Probably not. That's like a more rural district. You're going to figure out, where do I buy enough advertising to at least get people to see my client and see my candidate. But then the real thing you do is what black voters matter, does what Cliff Albright and Latasha Brown do. It's not about just having TV ads. TV ads are. They make a lot of people rich consultants. But what you do is cpd. How much will it cost to get a human being to go to George Jones's house ten times between now and November and tell George Jones, hey, do you know where your. Your polling place is? Hey, George, are you registered? Hey, George, do you have. Do you need a ride to the polls? Hey, George, have you gotten your friends and family to vote? Hey, George, do you have a sister? Sister? A brother, a cousin, a child? Anybody who's voting age, you have to harass them. That is what the Obama campaign did. That's how a man named Barack Hussein Obama became President United States. It wasn't vibes. It wasn't because he was cool or because there was a song made out of his speech, yes, we can. It was because the Obama campaign was a harassment campaign. The Obama campaign texted you every day and they would not stop texting you, bothering you, calling you, being in your face, being in your phone, being in your video games, being on your Facebook, being on social media, being in your face. I always say persistence overrides resistance. They literally said, we will never stop harassing your ass until your ass go in that poll and vote for Barack Obama. If they even suspected you might vote for Barack Obama. Your whole phone was full. My phone was full and I worked for them. And I was like, okay, Barack, leave me alone. I voted, okay? The pain won't stop until you vote. You can't just say, I love this candidate. It's not enough when you find out Somebody loves you. Oh, now I got you. You seemed you, you liked something on Facebook. You said you like my candidate. Go. Then you have to get that person. What's their phone number? Where do they live? Can I get a person to their door? Can I get a person this? It's math. It's math. Anyone can win if enough people vote for them in any state. There are no red states and blue states. There are voter suppressed states. There are states where you have people who have given up, people who have no hope, people who don't vote. Mississippi, Louisiana, people who voted get. But even Mississippi, I would take that back. Mississippi actually has high turnout rates among white voters. Yes. Have low turnout rates among black voters. But even with that SB only lost by four points. We had a deep dive on, on, on that SB lost by four points. That is, that is close In a state like Mississippi and they had 62% voter turnout in the last presidential election in Mississippi, a state that was not in contention, that used to be a swing state in 1980. Ronald Reagan had to contest Mississippi. Any these states change? California used to be a solidly Republican state. It gave us Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. This was a Republican state. And the last thing I will say is that what Democrats know about Texas is if Texas were to go Democrat ever, it would be the end. It would be game over. Because Republicans can't win the Electoral College without Texas. That's why they hang on to it and why they suppress and why they do all those shenanigans of voter suppression. They know they can never, they won't be able to. They would, you know, Stewart said they would immediately go to end the Electoral College if they lost Texas. So the reality is if Sean Harris has a plan, if he has a plan to make his cost per voter match what he can fundraise and he can get enough people out that has, that is more than the Republican gets out. And they're all going to try very many tricks. They'll try suppression to have more people. They'll try Trump coming out and doing a rally. The other side is going to do the most. Will Sean Harris do the most? Basically just make sure your voter registration is up to date, all of the stuff that you need to be up to date and just, you know, fight them on this. Go out there. If they tell you can't figure out why you, how you can and just go out and vote. You have to vote these fools out. That's the only way we're going to get changed. If you don't get changed you know, us next. But don't declare defeat in advance. And I would just say don't declare defeat in advance. Do not declare defeat in advance. And also don't count on someone else. There's a thing called them. Is it the Milgram effect? What is it that the. There's an effect in psychology that when two or more people see a crime happen, there's more. It's more likely that no one will intervene. When I studied psychology for six months at Harvard, right? If three people see somebody getting mugged, it's likely that that poor person getting mugged isn't. Is cooked. But if one person sees somebody getting mugged, they're more likely to intervene because they say that it's my responsibility because I'm the only person here. So one person is more likely to help a stranger than three or four people because they all disperse the responsibility. Ever see people on a. On a subway train and somebody's getting, you know, attacked or somebody's getting, you know, yelled at, and everybody just sort of looks away? Everyone disperses. Responsibility says, somebody should do something about that, but not me. Group thing, right? That's what group think is. Right. But when there's a. There's like a science, there's a scientific expert. That's what it is. The bystander effect. Thank you for my psych majors in the audience. Bystander effect. That's the bystander effect, right? But when you think you're the only one who can do it, you'll do it. That is how voting has to be be taught. You need to be taught that if you personally don't vote. This is the way I harass my kids. This person will lose if you personally don't vote for them. You have to feel that you yourself are the. Are the only bystander and that if you don't vote, your favorite candidate will lose. That's what happened with Kamala Harris. A lot of people said, I'm gonna let somebody else vote for her. I don't like her on Gaza. I don't like her. I don't like her being next to. You know what? Let somebody else do it. Either that or they stole it. Let's go. Let's do our moment of joy because that's also a possibility. Our moment of joy tonight is. Is. Is. Is a bop. Because the other thing that is a bystander effect thing where, yes. Do it anyway, where people don't have someone else doing it as protest does. We can't play it. Does it have music? No, we can't play. You know we can't play. Gonna have to move on. You better describe it. I'll play with the music off. Okay. I can't remember if the music is a popular song.
