Can we call my mom? She's gonna love this. Hopefully she answers. What are you doing? I'm FaceTiming one of your favorite football players, Peyton Manning.
B
Did you have fun at Kittle Fest when you came to it for the first time? Yeah.
A
No, that was great. But do you remember when I took over the bull riding and I was the dj?
B
Yes. Hey, guys, it's the Kittle,
C
presented by T Mobile.
B
Hey, guys, it's Claire and George.
C
And on the show today, we have our friend and incredible country music star, Mr. Saturday Night himself, Jon Pardee, along
B
with his incredible wife, Summer.
C
We are huge country music fans, so this is a fun one.
B
We talk country classics, our favorite concerts, and so much more country music goodness.
C
But before that, let's give a shout out to our presenting sponsor.
B
T Mobile is the best network in the game, and now the best network in America. It's coverage that keeps up wherever your route takes you.
C
Country music is all about connecting, and no network keeps you connected better than T Mobile.
B
Also, bear with us on the Christmas decorations.
C
The holiday bar is quick to go up, but slow to come down in our household.
B
All right, now saddle up, y'. All. Hey, guys, it's time for another round of Today in KDL history, which I'm always excited about. It's when our team provides a photo to us, and it kind of has something that me and Claire have done in our history of being together over the last 10, 12 years. That's a long time. Thanks for being with me for so long and putting up with all my. She's fantastic. So let's see what we got, team. Oh, my gosh. That is our engagement party.
C
It's our engagement party in Iowa City at George's mom and dad's house. And it was freezing.
B
It was so damn cold. It was actually. It was such a fun trip. So those are. Let's see. All those are Claire's Iowa friends. Besides one of them in the top left, her husband played with me for the Niners. But we brought back, like, five of my Niners teammates, and we all went to a. We went to an Iowa men's basketball game. Sat courtside with, like, 20 people.
A
Yeah.
C
Cause my brother was still playing.
B
Yeah. Her brother was what, like, a soft. He was like a sophomore junior. I just broken a record. Iowa actually surprised me, like, for something at halftime. Kind of gave me a recognition. And then they brought me out onto the court, and then my quarterback, C.J. beathard, who also went to Iowa, was on the court, and he threw me, like, a full Court pass on this on the stadium floor. So that was really fun. But then, yeah, then we threw a party at my parents house.
C
Yeah, it was such a fun trip having everybody in Carver, Hawkeye arena and just being back in our old stomping grounds and it was just, it was such a good party. It was so fun.
B
Had a great time at Summit and then had a great time at Brothers. Great bars and Iowa.
C
Went to all of our old college bars with like our adult friends, some of them who weren't even from Iowa.
B
Oh yeah, no, we had like there's like 10 people there that weren't from Iowa. Never been to Iowa City before and they all flew in for this. So that was a, that was a pretty special thing. I had so much fun.
C
Great engagement party.
B
Yeah, it was a great engagement party and I'm pretty sure Iowa won like on a last second shot too, which was absolutely crazy if I remember correctly. That's a fun memory.
C
That is fun.
B
Good job, team. On today's episode, we have the 2017 New Artist of the year winner, which was also my rookie year, which I think is pretty cool. We were both rookies together. That's awesome. Six singles, I think number one on the Billboard, which is pretty, pretty damn impressive. He's got dirt on his boots and he's here with his lovely wife Summer. We have John Party and Summer Party joining us today on the K. Thanks.
C
All the way from Nashville. Yay.
A
Glad to be here.
B
All the way from Nashville, which is
C
a place we both know and love.
B
Yeah, it's. I, I wish I was in Nashville sometimes throughout the football season because of how much I miss it. But I just want to say thank you guys so much for coming on. We're really happy that you guys could take time for us today.
D
Happy to be here.
B
I wanted us to start the show. We always like to, when we have our guests on, we like to talk about like the first time that we, we hung out or we met and you know, I was thinking about it and I was going to say, you know, one of my favorite times was when you performed at Kittle Fest and we'll get to that. But the first time I think, John, I ever met you, I don't know if you remember this. This was in the Losers Bar and grill in Nashville, Tennessee. It was like 2018, maybe 2019. And I walked in with a group of guys, NFL players and C.J. beathard. The Beathards were among us and he was like, hey, that's John Party in the corner. And I just Saw your. I just saw the hat.
C
Of course.
A
Right.
B
And so I was like, oh, my gosh. I got a. This is fantastic. And so my first time meeting you was just at the Losers Bar in Nashville, Tennessee. And I just thought that was. I don't know why I just remember that right now. But I. I thoroughly enjoyed that moment. I don't know if you remember that, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A
I think summer fell down that night.
D
Oh, wow. Why'd you have to throw me a great night?
A
I mean, we were having a great time. We having a great time, but, like,
B
I think you were like, Summer.
D
I was in the back.
A
I think it was like a full on, like, whoa.
C
That means you didn't catch her. That's why she fell.
A
I mean, it was. It was a new.
B
It was.
A
You know what?
B
It's good.
A
It was good. It was a good time.
B
It was a great time.
A
But we don't need to go into details. I love it.
B
See? That's fantastic. All right, so we usually do a phone a friend thing. And it started with. We randomly called my mom one time.
A
Like, can we call my mom? Yes, absolutely. She loves you.
B
Oh, yeah, call her. This will be hilarious.
A
How do we do this?
B
Just FaceTime her. What was her name?
D
Shelly.
B
It's Claire's mom's name.
C
It's my mom's name.
A
Hopefully she answers. Hello. Hello. What are you doing? I'm FaceTiming one of your favorite football players. Peyton Manning. That's a good one. No, no, no. How about George kd? Oh, he's awesome, too. We love K. Oh, did she hear me?
C
Second to Peyton.
B
I'll be second to P. That's not bad.
A
She was. You're definitely second. Your second fiddle.
B
Oh, hi, Shelly.
A
Hi.
B
Your son's fantastic, by the way.
A
Oh, thank you. I think he's pretty awesome.
B
Yeah. You did a good job.
D
I did. Yes, I did.
A
Thank you. Sorry Peyton couldn't join us tonight. Oh, I love Peyton. I love George.
D
Kiddo, too.
A
McCaffrey. I love all the 49ers.
B
Hey, now.
D
I understand.
A
I'm telling you, she definitely wants a Kittle jersey, though. That's a little. She always asked you for that.
B
Well, it's not like, you know the guy. You could probably get it.
A
I know, but you know why? Once you let my family be like, okay, we need five jerseys.
B
That's fine, dude. It's okay.
A
You heard it from the man. I know.
B
I love it. That's fantastic.
A
All right, Mom, I'll talk to you tomorrow. All right, love you. Love you, too. Bye,
B
Manning. That's funny. That's hilarious.
C
Honestly. Should be every mom's first answer, though.
B
It really should be. One of our segments that we do is called Relationship Goals. All right? And in it, we have fantastic fans who send in questions, and they're like kind of scenarios about relationships. And so you two are going to give advice. Just answer it how you answer, however you want. All right, this is a relationship question. My girlfriend is super into astrology, fellas. Do we buy it?
A
Is it like the astrologer Capricorn and all that stuff, or. Yeah, I'm a flow with the energy in the universe, so I think some of it matters. All right, all right.
D
Okay.
C
All right. Second one. My boyfriend bought me a gift that's not my style at all. I could tell he was really excited. Do I tell him and try to return it, or do I put it in the closet and quietly never wear it?
B
Oh, I'm pretty sure I've experienced this with Claire before. I've brought her stuff, and she's like, thanks. And then I've never seen it on her.
D
Yeah, I would put that in the closet. I have a gift from John that is one of those from.
A
I was just respectfully want to return answer so we can go shopping together for something that she wants that I can learn special and pay attention to.
D
Mental part of that special gift that they're excited about doesn't have to be
A
like, yeah, but what if we go back together and you tell me, this is what I want, babe? And I'd be like. And then next time I come even sharper.
C
He got better.
B
He gets better. Yep. Those two questions gotta go hand in hand. All right, the last one.
C
My partner's parents still have framed photos, couples photos of her ex at their house. Is that a bad sign? For me?
A
I would say that's a bad sign.
C
I would say that's a bad sign.
B
That'd be super tough.
C
I think you need to have a combo.
D
Maybe they don't know. Maybe they don't know.
A
Hey, maybe just once you do some country chores and work your way up in the roster.
B
That's what it is.
C
You're like, work harder.
B
Yeah. I gotta prove, hey, you could be here.
A
You could be here.
B
That's. That is fantastic. I want to just ask a couple country music questions because you grew up in California, which is not really a, you know, known for its country music. Like, how did. How did that. How did that work for you? Like, what. What made you want to sing country and, like, what Was like an influence for you that really got you going in it.
A
Well, I would say my grandmother was a big influence for me and she loved country music. And you know what, you know, everybody's like, oh, California. But, you know, it's. It's a huge farming state. California and country music go hand in hand. They have a lot of history in it, too. And did I know any of that? No, I just listened to the radio. So, like, I just have my grandmother, my dad, who loves country music, and all the people around me love country music, and I just grew up listening to it.
B
People might not think of California as a country music place. Anytime that we see country music in California, it is. People love it. Like, I gotta see. We saw Luke Combs last year at Levi's Stadium, and then we saw Morgan Wallen this year and it's totally sold out. Levi's Stadium, back to back nights. People know all the words, all the songs. Like, I was just so impressed with how much people love country music. And you don't really feel that vibe necessarily, but the second that someone's here,
C
but where they're from, you do.
B
Yeah, well, yeah, not, not in Silicon Valley, but then as soon as, like, country shows up, people are just obsessed with it. And I just, I love that so much.
C
So we want more country concerts?
B
Yes.
C
Out here by us.
B
Need more concerts.
A
Well, look, I played in many small venues in San Francisco and other places around the city, and they show up too. Just. We can't all play Levi's Stadium, you know, like, we can't all do that.
B
Not yet.
A
Not yet. Yes. There's always a country crowd, no matter where you go in the whole United States or the world. It's everywhere in California. It packs a big hit on both musical agriculture, business and, and even rap. I mean, God, the West coast rap is, Is still some of my favorites. So it's just a musical place. It's a beautiful state. It's a good place to be from. And I love Tennessee. I've been in Tennessee a long time and I love my, my, my songwriting family out here. And they always tell me to not forget where I'm from because they want some more of that west coast influences when we write songs.
C
Totally.
B
It's unique. I like that.
A
It's just, you know, high energy. You got to compete with everybody. High energy, Yeah.
B
I want to just ask you one just about. Did you have fun at Kittle Fest when you, when you came to it for the first time? And would you ever want to come back?
C
Is that what you expected?
B
Yeah, yeah.
C
What picture did you.
B
Yeah, what did you expect when you rolled up there? Did it live up to your expectation of it?
A
Yeah, no, that was great. But do you remember when I took over the bull riding and I was the DJ at the bull ride and then everybody, it was like all of a sudden it was a party at the bull riding. Like, it was, it was like, I'm just gonna, I'm gonna pull. It was like a zero million dollar cowboy coming up to get on a bull right now. And I would hit that. I'm like, I was working with dj. Like, that's how fun it was.
B
Like it was.
C
It was so fun. Everybody sprinted over to the bowl and you had the.
B
Your American flag tank top on. I think you had American flag shorts, swim trunks on and flip flops. And then you just got on stage and just ripped for us. And it was just so fun because my, my whole party, we had so much fun singing all your songs. Oh, yeah. And Summer, how pregnant were you when you showed up to that?
D
Like, like nine months.
C
She's like, I remember all of this.
B
Just could not be more pregnant.
C
Poor Summer.
D
Not pregnant.
B
You took control of the bull riding thing. And it was funny because anytime a guy got on it, you made it so hard for them. But you were good because when the girls got on like you, you let them feel good about it for a sec and then you just.
A
And move his tempo. The songs, it was, no. Well, I didn't control the bull. The bull guided. But we got on the. We got on the same page as the songs.
C
You were good, you were sinking.
A
But I just remember, like leaving like I killed the bull riding arena.
D
Yes.
B
All right, but so we were talking about some football and I was just going to ask you was, did you enjoy performing at Titan University? And can you tell me, like, one of your favorite things about just that experience?
A
Tiny University is so fun. You got so many rookies running around, so many talented dudes running around, and you got sneaky starting quarterbacks just showing up out of nowhere, just like to respect the tight ends. And as a football fan, it was super fun. The shows are always good. You get, you get so many good artists that want to come and sing because everybody loves football. We have so much respect for you. Fun. A lot of fun.
C
Yeah.
B
I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. Yeah, we had, we had a fantastic time.
A
I mean, and I was there two years ago. Then last year or this year, Taylor Swift shows up. Nobody, nobody else met, nobody else matter. The only the Only the only person that could be better if James Hetfield showed up and they would really give some competition.
C
Yeah, she was the big surprise.
B
John, what's funny about that night too, that Taylor came out earlier, Luke Combs went out, he went out with Jordan Davis and then Taylor comes out and everybody just forgot that Luke Combs performed.
A
I was like, nobody's here too.
B
No, that was. We, we actually, we bullied Luke into doing it because Taylor said that she got there and she like, hey, can I in the show? We're like, yeah. And so then me and Greg Olson bullied Luke Combs into going on stage and singing one song. It was so funny. And then. So with football though, you just performed at the Big 12 championship. What was it like performing that? Like, was that a cool experience?
A
It was the most nervous I've ever been. I'm telling you. If they would have checked my heartbeat going in that box out in the field, my doctor would have called off. You're going into a whole different level of just a whole nother world. Like, it's not music, it's football. It's people looking for football. It's.
B
I mean, it's a different beast.
A
The amount of crap I gotta deal with after this, just being good or bad or whatever. It's like I, I felt like I'm a sports player and I'm like, I get it. Like you, you can't do. And I've always said this about sports and football, sport, football especially if you do, if they think you're doing wrong, they go let you know. And if you do anything wrong, they're definitely going to let you know. And it's like I knew that going in. That's why my heart beat so fast. And like, we had a great show. The Big 12 was happy, I was happy. We had a great time.
B
So out of your entire. Well, actually, first, I mean, I see this summer, where do you like for that experience? Do you just. Are you just on the sideline watching with them?
D
Yeah, I watched on the 50 yard line. I got that, that view of the pop up from the sparkly box thing. It was pretty cool.
A
They're called eye catchers.
D
Eye catchers.
C
Eye catchers.
B
Eye catchers. See, I learned terminology. I learned something.
D
Yeah, that's pretty. It was cool. It was the whole marching band, all the baton girls, the cheer squads, like, it was really cool.
A
The cheer squads, the cheer squads kept me going because we like connected with Texas Tech and byu. We were just.
D
They didn't air because they only aired, like, it was a 12 minute, 4:30, and they only aired four minutes or something. But he did a little. He was in sync with the cheerleaders.
C
Yeah.
B
Yes.
A
I love that he's a performer.
D
Yep. He caught on quick.
C
All right, for this segment, we are gonna blind rank classic country topics. So they're gonna give us a country topic and we're Gonna put it 1 through 5, and it stays there. So we can't be shuffling the list around.
B
No shuffling. Absolutely no shuffling. This is interesting. I'm excited about it. And we're gonna put together a great list here as a team.
C
Maybe we can write a song after.
B
Oh, all right.
C
Never know.
A
Truck.
B
A truck.
A
I think four.
C
You think five.
B
I think five.
C
You think that's last?
B
I just think there's a lot of good things in country.
C
Okay, we can go five. You want four? We want five.
B
All right. We went five. You went four. All right.
A
Cool boots. Oh, number one all day.
B
Boots are important in country music.
D
Yeah.
B
Boots are made for walking.
C
Let's do two.
B
We'll do boots for our two dog. That's got to be a dog.
A
Dog is not even a category. It's a tough one. You got.
D
You can only.
A
You gotta write. You gotta write your own dog song to have a. Like, there's been some really good dog songs the past five years, but that's a. That's a tough one. I don't have a number for that.
B
We'll go four.
A
I'll go five. Beer.
D
Beer.
A
Beer. I'll go two. I'll go two.
B
Beer would be my. That'd be my one.
D
Okay. Beer's George's one.
B
I like. I like beer on. On songs.
A
A lot of beer. A lot of beer songs.
B
Because if most of the time you're singing about beer, it's most of the time an up tempo, like, have fun song. And so I listen to those a lot.
D
We have one left. They gotta have heartbreak, right?
C
Yeah, we have one left.
A
Heartbreak. Heartbreak. Wouldn't. If there was a heartbreak, there wouldn't be Motown. There wouldn't be Motown. That's. That's the. That's the number one ultimate song is heartbreak. I know.
D
Heartbreak's number two.
A
Heartbreak is number one for me.
B
I love it.
C
He can move his list around.
D
Yeah.
B
He can do whatever he wants.
A
It wasn't in the category. It wasn't in the category.
D
We were waiting on number five. We got 1A and 1B. Heartbreak and boost.
B
Perfect.
A
That was a bad student.
C
That's okay. We forgot our. Our numbers, too.
B
Oh, that's Fantastic. If you ever had to cover a song, what would be like one of your favorite songs to cover?
A
It changes every. Changes every minute. For me, the first thing I think about is Shine a Light, the Rolling Stones. And that's not even a country song, but that's a great song.
D
Yeah.
C
It doesn't have to be a country.
A
That's a great song. You know what I'm talking about. Shine a light.
B
I have the Rolling Stones on in our weight room probably every other week, probably.
A
So you know exactly that song.
B
I. I couldn't sing it for you right now, but if it was played for me, I would recognize it instantly.
A
Yes. Rolling Stones. I. I'm a Rolling Stones guy over the Beatles, and I love the Beatles, but I'm a Rolling Stones guy.
B
Rolling Stones is Sympathy for the Devil, right? Yeah.
A
All day. Yeah, that.
B
That's everything you want.
A
Everything. When you put it in your headphones, you want to get pumped up.
B
Rolling Stones, that is Sympathy for the Devil is on my game day playlist. It's like my fifth song.
A
There's. There's. And there's so much more. Can always get what you want on a. On a sad losing day. Can't always get what you want. You put it on there. Rolling Stones got everything.
B
What's something you guys are looking forward to in 2026?
A
Well, this is more touring. I got a new album coming out. We're going to. We're trying to get music out faster. Summer is just being a super mom and she is coming up with her own clothing line right now.
C
I love it, but she's as you should.
A
She's always working and she's always taking care of the kids.
D
But I'm just excited for a little time off with John home.
B
Yeah.
A
I mean, the most part time off, but like.
D
Yeah, just a little bit.
A
Not a lot of time off.
D
Yeah, just a little bit. You get too much.
C
Yeah. You know, just enjoy your new space. That's good.
B
It's nice to be busy sometimes.
C
Well, Georgia's sister and her husband just had a baby girl, so. Is there. It's their first. Do you have any parenting advice as parents of two girls? For them?
D
For us, a schedule worked. Not, you know, it's not for everybody, but for us, a schedule with a routine. Like, we thrive on routine. Our girls thrive on routine. I know. It's like that's kind of one of those things where it can be or
A
just a good old gift card to like Walmart, you know,
D
from Target.
A
Especially. Especially during the one month, two Month old. There's gonna be a lot of throwaway uniforms. I will say poopy diaper, poopy, poopy. Everything okay?
D
Lulu and Company, Burt. Plus, that is. That is what I recommend.
A
This is where I know nothing.
B
You're just reacting.
C
Smile and wave.
B
You're just listening. So you're making a clothing brand. Do you have a. Have you, like, you always had a name picked out for it, or is it something you're still thinking about now?
D
I'm kind of still thinking of. I have a couple different ideas. I had my first trademark when I was 16, and then I never did anything with it. And now, at 36, I've been toying with the idea for the last few years. And my assistant was like, you got to do this. So been working on that for the last year. But good for you.
C
Names are always the hardest. I feel like you can, like, feel something and you know the realm of what it's supposed to be, but then you go to put a name on it. Yeah. You're like, oh. Or it's reversed and you have the name, and it's like, you know exactly what it's supposed to be, but you can't quite get it finalized to build around.
D
You overthink it 5,000 times. Like, is this. Is this gonna make sense? Is this right? Is this flow?
A
Blah.
C
Yeah.
B
Well, please, if you. I don't know if you're doing men's clothing, but I'll wear it.
D
Perfect.
A
There's no men's clothing. Damn.
B
There's no.
C
Not as yet.
A
Not as yet.
B
John, same question for you. You don't have to tell me the name of your album if you have it, but, like, when it comes to picking names for albums, like, how much of a thought process is that for you? Or is it sometimes just click for you?
A
It's a little bit of both. You can click. You can let it ride. We're gonna let it ride because we're gonna try to do, like, a three sessions and kind of feel where we're at. Get four or five songs and record three sessions and just go with that. I like to, like, spend all year, pick a month, and we hunker down, we record the album, and that's. That was. That's been a really fun thing, but times change every time. You got to roll with it. You know, you got to go, go, go. And so we're going to try something different this year, so you're going to be more in the field. What I'm going through as we pass through the year, which I haven't done before.
B
I can't wait.
A
But sometimes you don't need a title, you know?
B
Yeah, you don't.
A
Spotify needs a title. But I, you know, it'd be like. It'll be session one for now.
B
Oh, I like.
C
There you go. What a beautiful way to end it. Thank you guys for joining us. And we can't wait to get back to Nashville too, you guys.
B
You guys are fabulous. We'll be. We'll be back. And maybe we can catch a Preds game or something. Jeff Ruby's we pre game. A Preds game with Jeff Rubies and then go back afterwards.
A
Let's go.
D
Yes.
B
Oh, that sounds like a great night.
C
I love it.
B
I love it. Well, thank you guys again, so much. You guys are fabulous. Awesome. Summer, you stole the show as always. John, you were pretty good as well.
A
Hey, I did good. I didn't say one cuss word.
B
Not one.
C
Hey, that's not one.
A
We were good.
C
You're allowed if you would like.
A
Hey, no, no. Hey. We gotta keep it clean. Gotta keep it clean.
B
Great job, John. Yeah.
C
Love you guys. Thanks for tuning in to another episode
B
of the Kiddle Things presented by T Mobile.
D
It.
