One of the ways in which you know that you're actually in the call of God, doing the will of God is that you're summoned to meet a need that shows up that. That grabs your heart that you can't let go of. And I think it's demonstrated really great in the life of Nehemiah, because I want to talk to you about occupying the gates, how to occupy the territory God called you. And for most of you, your occupation should be the thing you're doing 40 hours a week that leads you to the gate that God wants you to occupy, the place and position you're called to be in. So I'm looking for in the Bible the illustrations of this. And I. And I did a special message at a marketplace gathering in San Diego. And the outline was so electric that I said, we got to catch it. I want to make sure all my audience gets a hold of it. That's why you can go to lancewell.com occupy and get the material and get the notes. Let's talk about the lesson first. Nehemiah is our example of someone who's got a great job, a secure job, and suddenly he hears something that is the call of God, and the call of God comes to him in the form of a need. So, Carl, can you read for us where in Nehemiah this is described?
B
Are you referring to Nehemiah, chapter one? Okay, I believe. Let's start with verse two. That Henani, one of my brethren came, he and certain men of Judah, and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. And they said unto me, the remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire. And it came to pass when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept and. And mourned certain days, and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven, and said, I beseech thee, O Lord, God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments. Let thine ear now be attentive and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now day and night for the children of Israel, thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee. Both I and my Father's house have sinned. We have dealt very corruptly against Thee, and have not kept the commandments nor the statutes, nor the judgments which thou commanded thy servants. Moses. Remember I beseech thee, the word that thou commanded thy servant Moses saying, if ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations. But if ye turn unto me and keep my commandments and do them, though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there. Now these are thy servants and thy people whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power and by thy strong hand. O Lord, I beseech thee. Let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant and to the prayer of thy servants who desire to fear thy name and prosper. I pray thee thy servant this day and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.
A
Now this is interesting. The what translation have I got? The new American standard almost has the same word for word. It says, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant and the prayer of your servants who delight to revere your name and make your servants successful today. And grant him compassion before this man. Because I was the cupbearer, the confidant and the advisor to the throne of the king. And it's worth hearing that whole prayer. You know why the Bible puts those prayers there? Because God heard that prayer and you ought to look at the constituent elements of a prayer like that. He's making the case that you're a good God and you've taught us certain things will produce certain consequences. And everything that's happened to us is because we didn't obey you. But now I'm asking you to also consider that you said if we would turn back to you, you'd regather us. And, and now we've begun to be regathered. But Lord, we're in distress. I ask you to grant me success or favor with the king because he's about to make an audacious ask. He's going to ask that the city that was destroyed by Persia, the walls that were torn down, the gates that were taken down by Babylon, be all rebuilt. That the government's going to have to invest in rebuilding a conquered city and by the way, investing in its military defense because walls were part of the military structure. In other words, we need to recover our autonomy, our sovereignty, our military self capacity to protect our city from others. And Nehemiah's got a job in front of him. My point is this. He became seized by the call when he heard the need. And sometimes I think that part of the kingdom calling on our life isn't to pursue the thing that gives us the most delight. It's to solve the problem that gives us the most distress. Both of them are equally active in the Bible when it comes to answering the call of God. So as you move, God starts moving the players around. And Mercedes, you've been talking lately to me about battlefield upgrades.
C
Yes.
A
And I'm going to draw something here on the board. And while I'm drawing it, share with the folks what God's been telling you about battlefield upgrades.
C
Yeah, definitely. I've just been seeing really since I want to say, election time, just God in the middle of the battling to save a nation. And now we've been delivered, you know, the beaches of D Day and it's time to retake Paris. That in the midst of it, there's a lot of people who are getting battlefield promotions. And it's almost like I saw new mantles coming down on people. And so it's a new season, new levels for a lot, a lot of individuals in the body of Christ. And so it's just something that I'm kind of excited about. And I think we with it, greater new level, new devil. Right. So you're going into different level of warfare, but just lots of different assignments that are being dispatched in the body of Christ right now.
A
So this idea about battlefield promotions, there's a verse, Carl, that speaks about where promotion comes from. Can you dig it up real fast?
B
I believe I can. We're talking about Psalm 75, verse 6 through 7.
A
Let's hear it.
B
For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge. He put down one and setteth up another.
A
He puts down one and sets up another. So here's what I'm going to show you. That both a need that you are uniquely moved in the heart to pursue and a desire or a passion that is in your heart. Both of these are rails that God uses in, in directing people into the flow of the call of God. And as I thought about this, I said, you know, learning to walk in the spirit is an art form because the devil will come and he will try every way he can to move you While you're going here, you could get prematurely promoted out of the will of God. Let me tell you something. I've had experiences where I was in a job that God had me in and someone came along and offered me another job. I almost hesitate to tell you the story. I knew it wasn't the will of the Lord, but I figured, what difference does it make? It's secular. I mean, I was wanting to be in ministry anyway. Work is work. I thought that secular and spiritual were two different worlds. And I wanted to be in ministry and I took the job that made me more money. What a mistake that was. The Lord really wanted me on this path because the path of serving and discipline and humility, here I was an employee. Here the guy said, I'm going to make you a manager. I found out later that this job. I was hired as an employee, but the owner of the company intended to make me a manager. But I left. I failed a test, and I might as well tell you guys, we don't always get it right. But you know what? I failed the test and I blew it. I ended up losing that job. I had to come back humbly and do this again. You can go in or out of the will of God and miss the road. Because the enemy's job is if he can't. If he can't keep you from your destiny, he'll promote you out of it. You gotta learn. The fear of the Lord is getting more money. And it's amazing in America how we never say the fear of the Lord is saying no to opportunity. In America, we're so conditioned for success that surely it's the Lord. Maybe not. Maybe sometimes you have to say no because the promotion will pull you out of the thing God's setting you up for. All right, where's that verse, Carl, on reproofs of life?
C
Can I say something before you?
A
Yeah, go ahead.
C
I was gonna say my favorite Lance quote, which is essentially what you're saying. One of my favorites. There's two that I like, but is that. Is that if the devil can't trip you up with sin, he will rep promote you out of your destiny. That's a different way. That was a lancism.
A
Where do you think I learned these things, people? I learned it from my own screw up. So, yeah, you can weave in and out. Now, when you're in the way, when you're walking with God, it's working out. But then you could get depressed, despondent, walk away from the job. This isn't going anywhere. This is what I'm called to do. Or you could be like, hey, I'm going to go. And you go beyond. It's an art form to be patient, consistent, obedient. I remember all my Friends were off in Bible college and I wanted to go to Bible college. I wanted to go. They were all going to become preachers. And I'm in business and I'm in work in corporate. Guess what? Everything I'm teaching you now, the conference I spoke at is because of the years I did in corporate. The very place I wanted to get out of was the place where God taught me the stuff that I teach. And I didn't think I was in school. The Lord told me later he said, you were in Bible school, you just didn't know it. Obedience is Bible school. Where's that, by the way? This is go to lancewallnot.com occupy trust me, there's gold in them. There are hills. These notes will tell you it'll speed up your journey. It'll show you the map of how to walk in the occupied area and not leave it. So, Carl, I got one minute left. Tell me where that reproof of life verse is.
B
So I found a couple of reproofs in Proverbs, chapter 15, starting in verse 31, going through 32. The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise. He that refuseth instruction, despise it, despiseth his own soul. But he that heareth reproof getth understanding, heareth.
A
You know what it's called? Reproof of life. You know what that means? Circumstances in life God uses to get you back on track. It's like, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch. Those are the spankings that God gives you in life to get you back on track. And you know what Jesus said, now you are clean by my word. One time the Lord said to me, you know, if you'll judge yourself, you won't be judged. What does that mean? If you'll spend time in the Word and God says, you know, you're where you're going right now, what you're saying right now, the disposition you have right now, the choices you make right now, don't line up with this. If I judge myself, I won't experience the reproof of life. I won't have life. Have to give me the slap on the butt like a toddler. Instead, I'll adjust my own course. Let the Word correct you rather than your circumstances. Circumstances hurt more than the word. The Word will prune you with without the circumstance coming to you. So anyway, it's lancewellnut.com occupy if you could take this lesson. It's virtually inexpensive compared to what you get just grab it and lancewellnut.com occupy and send me some notes and talk to me about what you're learning. Your questions. Because I believe this course here is gonna be a game changer. Occupying the gate God called you to occupy in your life. Thank you, Mercedes. Thank you, Carl. We'll be back in another episode. Keep your eye out on this channel. We'll be sprinkling them out for you and pacing them out. Meanwhile, go over the notes that I gave in this one or replay this video once or twice and get a journal.
