Stephen Colbert
It's the Late Show Poncho with Stephen Colbert.
Child Voice
Kids, some of them actually were born yesterday. And because kids are the new kids on the block, they are constantly asking all kinds of questions like how does photosynthesis work? And do sharks sleep? And Mr. Colbert, do you know that you have yogurt on your tie? Yes, I did know that. I put it there so it would stop being on my face. Thank you. But if you live with, you might get tired of answering all their questions all the time. That's why I started a segment where parents can send me questions from their actual children that I actually answer here on television where all the best learning happens. Now, we've had some trouble naming the segment in the past. First we called it Steven Takes yous Kids, which was not, not a great title. And none of the others were much better. So this time I asked for a title that tells parents they can take a break to enjoy some rest and peace. And now it's time for Stephen Colbert, Rest in Peace.
Stephen Colbert
We need to talk. Hey, kids, who's got a question for me?
Child Voice
Is there a bone in your tongue?
Stephen Colbert
Great question, Lincoln. Now, unfortunately, I don't know the answer because my doctor refuses to let me lick the X ray machine. Who's got another question?
Child Voice
How does TV work?
Stephen Colbert
Good question, Arissa. Here's how TV works. A bunch of creative, hard working people get together and they tell a story they believe will move and resonate with audiences. Then they go to sell that story to a network and the network says, that's great. But what if the story was different and it starred Kelsey Grammer and was actually just to show Frasier again? And then those people who very much love and want to feed their families say, yes, that's a great idea. That's how TV works. Next question.
Child Voice
Can worms get concussions? My name's Henry.
Stephen Colbert
Hi, Henry. Sadly, every worm I've ever come in contact with has had a concussion. Because I always ask them who the current president is and they never know the answer. That's why I invented the Stephen Colbert worm helmet. Protect the worm in your Life for only $12.99 in Worm, which is dirt. The Colbert worm helmet. It's invertegrate. Next question.
Child Voice
What's at the bottom of a sinkhole?
Stephen Colbert
Thanks, Emmy and Paisley. Well, at the bottom of a sinkhole, you'll find a cavern with water and soil that flowed down deep into the earth from widening cracks on the surface above. But at the bottom of a stink hole, you'll find a.
Child Voice
What is the square root of 5,000, 312?
Stephen Colbert
Ooh, that's a hard question. But fortunately, I know a handy little song that always helps me remember the answer. Do you want to know the square root of 5312? Then I've got the perfect song for you. It's easy. 72.882 but we're not even close to through. 099-7871 hey, everybody, isn't it fun? 1-681-642-743 double zero then an eight any credit?
0918-6016-9116-0338-78715 1660-8030-1791-8715-6299-74-552813 Irrational numbers go on for infinity.
263209. There are a few more verses, but I'll have to teach that to you later because as I mentioned earlier, the song never ends. Who's next?
Child Voice
Why is the ocean salty?
Stephen Colbert
That's a great question, Noemi. To find out, let's ask the ocean herself. Hey, ocean, why are you so salty?
Why am I salty? I'll tell you why I'm salty. I didn't get any sleep last night. The moon keeps pulling on me, making me go back and forth. Pull yourself, you crater butthole. And what's with all these fish peeing in me? So, yeah, yeah, I'm a little salty. Deal with it.
Thanks, Ocean. By the way, you sound a lot like my friend Amy C. Daris. Who's next?
Child Voice
Stephen Colbert. Do you know how Stephen Colbert dies?
Stephen Colbert
No. No, I don't. Why? Do you? Oh, my God, you totally do. Don't you? Tell me, Jacob. Just tell me what it's gonna be. Is it something I can avoid? Is it a sinkhole? Is it a stinkhole? Do I get struck by lightning? Is it a stray nunchuck? Wait. Are you trying to kill me, Jacob? Are you? Because if so, I think it's working. God, it's so hot in here. I can't breathe. I need water. Oh my God. Is it poison? Are you poisoning me, Jacob? You tell me, you son of a. Well, looks like I gotta go. So, kids, I hope I answered all your questions.
