And I'm literally only speaking for today. Normally, it's like a general consensus of, like, how I've been feeling or, like, follow ups to things that we've talked about within the space, but I. I don't know. Today was like a flustered feeling. I am really trying to figure out how to balance or make the most time out of the weekdays. Man, 34 years old, and I'm just realizing, like, yo, you are really an adult. Like, you are the new adult out here. And it is insane to me that that is so. I don't know how our parents had all the time to, like, work, do homework, pop up at your school, whenever the teacher called home, actually have a life of their own. Like, now that I'm thinking back on it, I'm like, yo, did my mom ever really have a life of her own after she had me and my brother are like, did her life just, like, fully shift? And that was not a thing because I can't imagine having children right now. To all of the parents out there that are listening to the podcast, hopefully this is y', all, like, daily fix of something that, like, is yours that you can do without the babies all up in you. Mom, I need this. Mom, I need that, because I gotta give it to y'.

I don't understand. I can't fathom how you guys do it. Like, the parents who, you know, I mean, like, full time, full time parents. Like, this morning I woke up and was just, like, getting ready for work, headed in, and I was thinking about everything that I set out to accomplish the night prior to prepare for my day the following day. And in the midst of some of that, I literally fell asleep and woke up and it was time to go to work again. And I'm like, man, like, Beyonce got these same 24 hours and she became an icon, a billionaire, so. So I know I can do it. But lord have mercy, the process of figuring out what that flow is, because I don't think that there's ever really a balance. I've said this before. I think it's like A flow state you get into where, you know, it's like, discipline and. Yeah, like, I just trying to figure all of that out while also trying to imagine, like, what it would be like once I'm married and I have kids and, like, where they fit into this lifestyle.

And honestly, one of the reasons why I think I probably fell asleep and woken and woke up thinking about that is because of a conversation that we're actually going to talk about in the Latest with Lauren LaRosa. Today, Oprah, Oprah and Kiki Palmer were having a conversation, and they got into the fact that Oprah has never married, never had children. So we'll get to that in the latest. Just want to let y' all know where my mind was at as I check in a bit, but I'm doing these things now. And I've talked about this before on the podcast, too, where when my days feel like this, I just, like, know I need to take a second and, like, slow my day down. So once I wrap work for the day, I'm gonna have me a little session of, like, I just need to shut everything off for about 30 minutes to an hour. And maybe it's an anxiety thing, too. I. I've never knew that I even dealt with anxiety, but when I hear people describe anxiety and what that feels like, I think that's what I, like, feel sometimes when I feel this way. Like, everything just feels so, like, like, flustered. Like, I'm. Y' all know those images of, like, somebody sitting in a chair that spins all the way around, and, like, they're just spinning, spinning, spinning, spinning, spinning, spinning. Like, literally, my days feel like that sometimes. Today was one of them. So we gonna slow it down, and we're gonna get into the conversation. Let's get on into the latest.

The Miami Heat. Speaking of conversations and things going a little crazy, Miami Heat is under some fire right now. Not really under fire, but they are a topic of conversation right now because There was a YouTube link and or a YouTube video that was made public on their YouTube channel, and I don't think they should have made public, and I'm gonna tell you why. So they posted a link to a scheduled live stream. And this live the live Stream was titled LeBron James Introductory Press Conference. Now, you guys know, for those of you guys who aren't like, like big sports, you know, enthusiasts, and again, y' all probably like sports. Like, we rarely talk about sports here on the podcast, but when we do, it's when it's something that bleeds into pop culture, into conversation. LeBron James, is that so. LeBron James announced that he is no longer going to be doing any more seasons with the Lakers, that he's going to be a free agent. He going to try to figure out a new team to go to. He got a chance to play with Bronnie, and now he's trying to figure some things out. There's always been a conversation. Not always, but in, I would say, like, maybe five to six years, there's been a conversation about LeBron and retirement and when it's going to happen. And you know what would be that, like, final nail in the coffin that, like, made it happen or how it would look like when it happened. A lot of people do believe him announcing that he wanted to leave the Lakers because he's, he said before that playing with Bronnie was like on his list of things to do before he got up out of here as far as I got up out of the game and retired, and he's done that. We got to see that on the court. Those moments But a lot of people have been trying to figure out, you know, what that would look like. I think for a lot of people, they thought that it would happen while he was on the Lakers. But now we know that that is not the case because there are a few prospective teams that people believe LeBron might be considering, One of them being the Cavaliers, which is where it all began for him. Another being Golden State, where you have Steph Curry. Steph Curry and Draymond Green. And people were like, okay, that could be like a trifecta. And then you also have Philly. People think Sixers are in the conversation now. The Miami Heat posted this video, this link, and it was followed by the date of July 27th. It is July 22nd. It's followed by the date of July 27th. And they said a spokesperson came out for the team and said that this was a mistake. They told Shams, who is a journalist over at espn, who always gets the exclusives. I would love to actually talk to Shams, not because of, like, a love for sports, but because of a love for the craft of, like, storytelling breaking news. And he's so good at it. Like, I'm not a NBA or a sports. Like, I don't die. I don't, like, sit on all of the, like, ESPN of the World and sports outlets. But when I see something, normally it's on X from Shams, I trust it. And I think that that's a brand that he's built over time that I would love to sit down and have a conversation with him about. So maybe we'll. We'll figure out trying to get that here on the latest with Laura Rosa. Um, so on Tuesday, there was a late. It was late Tuesday, there was a statement that was posted by Shams saying that the possibility of the signing in that post, that YouTube post was mistakenly posted to the team's YouTube channel. It was later deleted. Yeah, I don't know, y'.

So now people. I mean, the Heat have been loosely a part of the conversation. I know I saw an interview or, like, a headline about a week or so ago where the president, Pat Riley, talked about how Giannis, another NBA player, and the team would welcome LeBron James if they decided to come to Miami. But people, I don't know, I. Big slip up or preparation, I will say, like, when I used to work in a newsroom, we would prep post. And we were prep posts just knowing, like, all right, this is so bad. But we were prep post based on, like, death story. So, like, if there were, like, certain Celebrities who were like, super, super, super, super, super post prepped for if we got a tip that they had passed away and we were able to confirm the story so that you wouldn't have to write it up, you would be able to, like, get it up and it would be already ready. We would have prep post for different outcomes. I remember when the Meg the Stallion Tory Lanez case happened. We had a prep post for if Tory Lanez beat the case and was able to go free. And we had a prep post for if he didn't. We didn't know how many years he would be sentenced to or, you know, we didn't know a lot of things or, like, what he would be looking at, but we had those things, type of things prepped. And I think in a lot of stories, you do that. Like, I wouldn't be surprised right now if, you know, not sports teams, but if news outlets don't have stories prepped because you don't know when LeBron James's announcement is coming, like, you have no idea when it's coming. There has been no real timeline laid out. The only thing that we know from conversations, literally directly from LeBron and from his agent, Rich Paul, are that he's weighing a lot of things. He's weighing family, of course, he's weighing money, he's wearing, weighing legacy. But you don't know when it's coming. So I think most outlets right now, and. And now we're learning the teams are doing it too, are taking the odds of where he might go in the conversations and just trying to be prepared for it. But it's a crazy slip up, though. This is like an insane slip up to make.

Shifting gears completely onto our next story. You talk about journalism. You talk about insane moments, breaking news. You got to talk about Oprah. Oprah is the og. She is the goat in all of this. And she sat down for baby. This is Kiki Palmer with Kiki Palmer. And I enjoyed this conversation thoroughly. It was about an hour long, and Oprah got into a ton of different things. Oprah talked about, you know, just the moment that she knew she needed to own her show, the Oprah show, and the fact that she owned it 50% outright. But what I thought was, like, so big from the conversation was what inspired her. Like it. It. I would say it's like representation as far as, like, you know, seeing other women on the television. But she talked a lot about Mary Tyler Moore and seeing the production credits at the end of her show. Let's take a listen.

Part of the reason I am who I am is because I was watching the Mary Tyler Moore show, and at the end of the Mary Tyler Moore show, remember this? There's a little MTM and a little cat that comes out that goes, meow. And it was her own production company, mtm. It's the first time that I realized, oh, you could own yourself, you could own your product, you could own what you're putting out into the world. And MTM is what gave me the vision to believe that could happen. And I remember when I started in Chicago and I said to one of the, you know, suits, I said, you know, one of the things I want is to one day become a mogul. And the next day he was like, how dare you use that language? How dare you say that? Yes. That's what he said to me in 1983. How dare you use it? Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes. I wanted to be. I wanted to be a mogul like Mary.

I don't think that he said that.

[Lauren LaRosa]

Why do you.

[Oprah Winfrey]

He said it was so arrogant, and it was so. Yeah, yeah. I was like, so full of myself to think that I could become a mogul.

[Kiki Palmer]

Greatest fear is not that we're inadequate. Our greatest fear is that we're powerful beyond measure.

Now, another thing that I was surprised that Oprah was, like, so open about, even though she didn't. She didn't talk much about it. But, like, Oprah don't really get into these things. Kiki Palmer brought up the fact that everybody's always saying, like, I'm trying to find me a statement, and that whole sentiment. And Oprah opened up about being with men who dogged her out before Stedman and how lucky she was to have him. Let's take a listen.

I often am like, I need me a Stedman. Now, I don't know nothing about you and Stedman's actual relationship, but what I'm curious of is what you found. How much did it differ from what you thought you wanted?

Oh, let me just tell you, I paid a price to get there because I was a fool for many years.

[Kiki Palmer]

I went through some man troubles in my 20s.

[Lauren LaRosa]

One of the biggest things that I took away from this conversation was Oprah Libra talking about intention and how intention. I think you start out, of course, with intention because you have an intention to achieve and do something. But understanding your power and your platform and being intentional about that throughout the work and being such a boss in her area from the beginning, like, even when she wasn't syndicated, when she was just in Chicago, how all that played a part into, like, who the Oprah is that we know and talk about today, like, what she chose to talk about, how she chose to talk about it, and pushing that line, but, like, also being inviting enough where people want to come on the show, they dived into that conversation a bit, which I appreciate it because I think for me, I am in real time learning that fine line. But when I started out in all of this because I wanted to be on the other side of things, like, I started out wanting to be an actress and a model, and I'm still going to do those things. But as I was like, I'm gonna retire with a talk show, like, that was like a after everything else happens, goal for me. But things flipped. One thing happened before the other. I've always told myself, like, when I got to a point where I was, like, in interviewing people and, you know, talking trending topics or whatever it may be, I wanted to be, like, the person that people wanted to pick up the phone and call when things were happening, regardless if you agreed with the fact that I had to talk about it or not. And Oprah kind of gets into that. Let's take a listen.

Shout out to Jeff Jacobs who said, what if you owned yourself, it means you'd have to take the risk yourself. That maybe it wouldn't do as well. But you don't have to take a salary. You would get whatever the show was going to make. This is.

And this is like advertising.

This is when we went syndicating. Yeah. When we were syndicated. And I said, sure. Because I believed in myself. And that is the reason why I am where I am, because I believed that ownership was the way for me. And you know what? At the time, you know, local stations couldn't even syndicate you, so they. Nobody, nobody believed that the Oprah show was gonna be as big as it was. And the reason why I got the greatest percentage, the percentage that I did is cause none of those guys thought it was gonna be that successful. If they thought it was that successful, they would have never given me 50%.

Did you feel that sacrifice in the immediate meaning when you took. So it felt all the same.

[Oprah Winfrey]

It felt all the same to me. It felt like I knew that the show would be successful because it was successful in Chicago.

Shout out to Keke Palmer. I thought that this conversation was fire from beginning to end. I also am just like, I don't think that people understand how much of a job it is to build platform. Like, Kiki Palmer has a production company that is producing products and content outside of her. It's a. It's a business. Like, Kiki Palmer herself is a business as well. She just recently did her TED Talk. She has baby, this is Kiki Palmer, which is her talk down, sit down talk show where she just interviewed Oprah. And she's very consistent. And I know a lot of people will look at it like, I mean, well, she's Kiki Palmer. Of course she can be very consistent. To be honest with y', all, I feel like I'm more surprised that she's Kiki Palmer. She's as consistent as she is. Because a lot of times you watch celebrities who have already accumulated a certain, you know, point of success, start these podcasts and start these shows and don't keep up with it because of schedule, because of other work things, but also because they've amassed a certain level of success. So the fight, the hunger that Oprah is talking about in her early days in this interview, it ain't there after a certain point, like, you've. You've amassed what you've set out to do, but you could tell that Kiki Palmer is like, she's in it and like, her intention is to. To grow her brand and to really have conversations that, like, people actually walk away but feeling like, okay, this mattered and I'm down for it. Kiki Palmer broke down like she was crying in this interview. They started talking about the pressures or, you know, if there were any pressures for Oprah being a black woman in the space. And she was talking about being the only black woman in the newsroom. And I'm like, been there. But Keke Palmer literally started crying. Let's take a listen.

Because I always saw myself as a little black girl who was truly God's child. So much so that when I started school and I didn't even know who my father was at the time when I started school, I used to tell people, they say, who your dad? And I go, jesus is my daddy. And they go, this girl crazy. She up here talking about Jesus is our Daddy. So I really grew up believing that I could do all things because I was God's child. And so when I walked into the newsroom and I was the only black woman there, I just assumed I was supposed to be there because God had made the way for that. It never occurred to me to feel like I didn't belong because I knew God had created the path for me to be there when I got the job in Baltimore and. Okay, so why are you crying?

[Kiki Palmer]

Because I feel that exact same way. Where even in my human moments where it's scary or you can, you know, people call it imposter syndrome, whatever, my courage has always came through because I have such a deep faith in God. I don't have a deeper, literally, my, my, my, my. The source. It's like no matter what feels seems strange on the outside, it has never guided or stopped or thwarted my ability to push forward. And I think the tears are also coming from. First of all, it's an overwhelming sense of recognition. And then it's like, how do.

[Lauren LaRosa]

How.

[Kiki Palmer]

When people don't have that, when they don't know that, when they can't find their connection to that. I also feel grief for that because certain things are out of your control, but that does not mean that it can stop you. And yet we are living in a world where people feel absolutely stopped.

[Lauren LaRosa]

Shout out to Kiki. Shout out to her. Like, I'm watching and I am inspired, girl. Like, when we build out the latest with Lauren, the rose of the podcast and all the different entities that I want to have under my branches as talent, I look at people like Kiki Palmer, Issa Rae, Oprah, Rihanna, like Tiana Taylor, like, people that are, like, really doing things at a high level, these multi hyphenates at a high level.
