I'm the homegirl that knows a little bit about everything and everybody. You know if you don't lie about that, right? Lauren came in hot. Hey y', all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa and this is the latest with Lauren LaRosa. This is your daily dig on all things pop culture, entertainment, news and other. All of the conversations that shake the room, baby. Now, we always start off with a behind the scenes check in, a behind the scenes of the grind. Back on the grind. And I am currently, right now, as we speak, in real time. I'm just, I'm in a space of, I wouldn't even. It's not learning how to delegate, but we are basically at a space where like we need to expand the team. We are trying to figure out a day to day, kind of like a personal executive assistant type role, somebody who would like go with me to events and you know, just like help me organize a lot of the things that I'm like incurring during the day. And because I am, one of the things that I've told myself from the beginning of this is like, I want to just keep making sure I get up and I show up for work. And I don't mean it. Like, I don't want to call out to the Breakfast Club or skip podcasts or you know what I mean? I mean in a, in a sense of I want to be able to like not worry about, you know, there's a lot of things that come as you build platforms. So there's events happening and now we have the merch@browngirlgrinding.com you should go check it out especially, especially for Women's History Month because it's empowering the best women in your lives. But when all this stuff is starting to come and things are starting to move, there's a lot to be done, there's a lot of instruction to give. There's a lot of execution that happens. And I want to be able to just focus on doing the work, focus on my stories, focus on building myself in that space of telling the stories and getting, you know, the information, just doing all the things that I always had time to focus on when all the other things weren't bubbling as much because the platform wasn't as big. Now we are over 8 million listeners strong here at the latest with Lauren, the rose of the podcast and all of the things. So you guys can imagine, you know, how things have grown. So that is what in real time the behind the scenes of the grind is looking like for me. I am trying to figure out, like, this is a new space for me. I've had an administrative assistant for probably like three years now who's been like, she's a writer, so shout out to her, shout out to site solutions. If you were in the Delaware, Philly, Jersey area and you need virtual assistants, they're not in person. And that's the only thing that now I'm growing to a space where I need some, I do need someone day to day with me in person. But if you need a person who could do, you know, your back end admin operations and I, I would say for more like day to day businesses so like real estate and you know, doctor's office, daycare, stuff like that that has a lot of like paperwork and day to day to do's that are very like structured. Because my world is so crazy, I feel like it's structured but it's so not. Like everything is forever changing depending on what's happening in the news and you know, just so many things. I think that that's their strong point though, working with businesses who are very structured, who have the same beat and tempo daily but really need help, you know, building out the structure and making sure the structure and what you've set in place and who does what and you know, all that type of stuff is consistent. So shout out to her. But we're trying to figure it out. We're trying to figure out what this looks like, who we bring in. We do have job listings out there and it has been a, it's been a time only because it's like we find someone and it's like oh no but this. And then we find someone and it's like oh no, but this and we find someone. I'm like, personally I don't think that's a person I want to bring into like my space. And it's not just about me now either. It's like I'm interacting with people on a daily who also, you know, have various things that they protect and you know, things are just different when, when the platform starts to build. Like there are a lot of conversations about the business behind building but like I do want to have more conversations that get more into like the minutia, like the, the small questions that you don't just like ask in an interview because you want to get to the bigger stuff. Like well, how do I scale? How do I get loans? No, I ask questions like what type of bank accounts do you put your money in that you're going to use to pay your taxes later? How many bank accounts do you have? How do you, how do you divide, you know, your money? How are you LLC or incorporated for. Because you know, like in today's world, I was going to say in what I do, but it's not even in what I do. I feel like in 2026, in general, you can have the most, like, I'm going to call it regular. And it's not. It's not a jab. It's just me trying to classify the type of job I'm talking about. You could have a regular job, right? Like, you could be a corporate banker. Like, I used to work at Barclay when I first graduated from college in the community relations department. And it was like, it was great benefits, great pay, go to work, go home. Nowadays, you could be doing that. Like, you could have that job and you could be online talking about the fact that you have that job and build an audience for yourself. And that now creates other income outside of that job about what you do or doing it for other people in another space. Like, the opportunities are endless nowadays. So managing business is so different. And I think that's one of the things that has been, like, so new for me because I don't have other people in this space that I can go to that are like family that really understand it because it's so new at this level. But I call. Look, I call charlamagne to envy all the time or even just in person and ask them questions about things as I'm trying to figure out all of this stuff. But it's scary. It's like, imagine having a baby and the. The day that your baby is born, when your baby literally first cry, you're like, okay, I'm going hand my baby over to this person who's going to have my baby for 12 hours a day. I feel like I've been working so hard all of my life to get to certain points, and I'm. I'm literally living in my answer prayers. And God has so much more in store for me. But I know I need certain things at a very small level because again, I'm still building, everything is still new. But I just want to have things organized. I want things to be seamless because I just want to focus on the work. And it's scary trusting somebody with your baby like it is. It's not that easy. So those are just some of the things that, like, you know, driving here to the podcast today, I was just thinking and having conversations about, like, scale and scaling and all that stuff. And I saw recently that Hanifa, who is a clothing designer, she's a black woman clothing designer from the DMV area. Well, really. And we call her Hanifa, but her name is Anifa, but her brand is Hanifa. And you guys may or may not Recognize the brand. It's. It's a clothing brand. It's a fashion brand. But she has been doing this for, like, decades. Like, she was one of the first designers I ever saw have, like, a 3D virtual. Like, what AI and all this virtual and tech stuff is. She did that so long ago. She had a full fashion show in the pandemic when we couldn't go around people virtually, and it stopped the world. She's been doing clothes and doing things for a long time, but she recently decided to take a pause from her business just because there was a lot of conversation and backlash online from customers not receiving orders and, you know, waiting months for orders and just. Just a ton of different things. And when I look at that, I'm like, you know, scaling a business is so much more than, like, how do I find funding that is such. Such a big part of it? And. And I'm not gonna. You know, I'm not saying that to say you don't need the money to scale, because you do. Even in hiring people, you need money to be able to pay them. Right. But what I'm saying is that knowing what to do with it, right, Because Hanifa has a following. Hanifa has customers, so the demand is there. Even though she might not have her. I'm not gonna say might. She's a black woman designer. I know she don't have everything she needs when it comes to financial backing, but she was successful to a point where things were moving, and she still had to take a pause to figure out a lot of things. Is my point in. I saw that this week, and just, you know, the media covering it and people have a conversations about it, and I'm like, dang, it don't matter what level of success you get to because of what we were not taught. There's always a sense of, like, having to teach yourself, having to figure it out in real time in front of the world. Especially if you're on a platform and building a business and the 50, 50 chance that, like, you might mess up or you might not, and being able to recover from that mess up, like. And that's like, my biggest fear is one day I wake up and, like, all of this is, like, not there. And I try to get out of that mindset. It's like a little bit of, like, imposter syndrome. And, like, do I deserve what's happening and not deserve it? Like, woe is me, but more so, like, I always think I'm gonna wake up one day and it's gonna Be like, the jig is up and you didn't really like you. You're not as good as you think you are, or you've always been, or people think you are. And that's a weird feeling to have because again, when I say I always just want to come to work and do the work, I don't even think about stuff like that. I literally just, like, do the job I know to do because I'm passionate about being able to, like, talk and tell stories and create stories and all, like. And I want to do it in so many different ways. So at this level right now and what I'm doing, looking at a hanifa and, you know, her decision to take a pause for a bit, she made it very clear it's only a pause. I then go into looking at my own stuff behind the scenes, and I'm like, all right, here's everything that I feel like I'm lacking. Here's all the holes. And how can we begin to, like, fix this stuff now? Even if just small fixes, how can we make things more seamless and, you know, just everything so that as things do grow because they're like, it's just naturally happening, I'm able to keep up, like, on the business, on the back end side of it, I'm able to keep up. But, you know, I thank God for having good people, like being able to pick up the phone and call people who've been doing this for so much longer than I have at a very high level, you know, and ask honest questions and get honest answers and get resources. I am so proud of that. But let's get on into the latest because speaking of business and conversations, we talked about Matthew Knowles in the interview that he abruptly ended. But he says that this whole conversation is skewing the narrative and he's threatening legal action. I think it's because it's impacting or could potentially impact his business. Let's get into the latest. This is Matt Barnes from All the smoke. In 1876, the very first phone call in history was made. And 150 years later, we're more connected than we've ever been. But even though technology will always change, a one on one phone call still remains. Everything AT&T has been connecting people for 150 years. That's too many conversations to count. And so many of life's biggest moments start with the phone call. I remember when I received a call from my agent in 2002 to let me know I'd been called up from the G League it was one of the greatest, most exciting calls. It finally came. I was waiting on it for about three months and it finally happened and it changed my life from there. I went on to win a championship and start this amazing show that we're talking about now. From 1876 to 2026. No matter what you need to talk about, AT&T keeps us connected. Connecting changes everything. I think coming out of where I came from, I'm from the Bronx. I think I grew up really poor. I didn't know that then because I very much use my creativity to romanticize life. And I'm like, my mom did a really good job of like, you step back and you're like, whoa. We. I don't know how we made it. So a lot of my life was like, built out of, like, survival to get to the next place, like my drive, my, like, tunnel vision of like, I gotta be better, I gotta achieve. This was off. The strengths of like, I want to make a better life for us. So Matthew Knowles, father of Beyonce, who was married to Tina, knows Ms. Tina Knowles. And Mr. Matthew knows the parents of Beyonce. I keep just saying Beyonce. Excuse me, the parents of Beyonce and Solange Knowles. He is now sitting down and clearing up a lot of the issues that came out of the conversation with PIX11 and a reporter named Kendice Gibson. Now, I told you guys on a previous episode, we also talked about this on the Breakfast Club, about how, you know, this interview was 40 plus minutes long. I gave you guys some look, some more like deeper looks into the interview yesterday, the full interview yesterday, and now he is having another conversation. So Mr. Matthew Knowles uploaded a conversation with his team, just about everything that has been going on. So I want to play a clip where he kind of explains why he walked out of the interview and just, just addressing everything. Let's take a listen to Mr. Matthew Knowles. I, I think I calmly what I said, and I'm actually quoting, what work did she put in? It was a question. When I look, I don't do interviews, Carlos. I have conversations. Yeah, and, and, and I have the right as you know, you know, I'm a college professor. I, I didn't know what he meant by that. So I'm saying calmly, what work did she put in? That was a question. I don't know how that became a comment, but it was a question. And then the gentleman went on to say her hair. Well, Tina did way more than just her hair. And if you look at the interview, I said her hair. No, she did the styling, built the image for Destiny's Child. Wouldn't you agree that's way more than just saying someone did the hair. Now I told you guys on a previous podcast episode, we did speak to Kendice Gibson who said, who was the journalist who conducted the interview for PIX11 who said he was not late. His call time and the crew set up time were different. And Mr. Matthew knows just happened to be there a bit earlier. And who also said that there was no. He. He alleges that, you know, there wasn't a bad vibe during the interview. And I. From the interview I watched. I. I mean, I wasn't. There was a statement that was put out the Page Six yesterday, and I wasn't really sold on the statement from Mr. Knowles. But he's speaking for himself now, and I'm like, I can understand where he's coming from a bit more. However, I do think the tone of his response and that original, abrupt. Stop. Let's play that again. I think that is the issue. Let's listen. You've earned your flowers. I said the same thing to Ms. Tina Knowles. You guys put in the work, and obviously the talent was there with your kids and your grandkids. What work did she put in. In the hair. Okay. You're absolutely right. And the styling. The styling imaging. You're right. She claimed to have preyed on the name and different aspects of that. Sure, sure. Yeah. It's a joint effort. We'll stop. Sorry, did I say something wrong? No, no, no, no. All right. Thank you so much. Thank you. I think that is the issue, because I know Mr. Matthew Knowles is debating that, you know, he gave Ms. Cena Knowles her flowers, and he wasn't trying to disparage and, you know, all these things. But I think when you hear his response after what was said. Right. Because it's like, y' all are equally receiving your flowers. And, you know, and he's like, we need to be able to have conversations. It's like, I would assume that Mr. Matthew Knowles is very aware of Ms. Tina Knowles contributions to Destiny's Child. And. And again, he says in that interview, and you guys just heard him say her contributions and making sure that she got her just due for them. So it just came off a bit shady. And I think, look, even if that wasn't his intention, that's what happens when you do these interviews. Like, the way that the Internet can take something and make it one way and make it another. If that is what he's arguing, I. I can understand that. I don't know necessarily. And it's not about my feelings. I'm just here to tell you guys what happened. Not how I feel for the most part, but I also can very clearly see why people took this as like, hey, don't do that to Ms. Tina, because she is just as much a part of Destiny Child's legacy as you are. And. And, you know, Mr. Matthew Knowles talked a lot about where him and Ms. Tina Knowles relationship is today. Let's take a listen to that, which a lot of the media is not actually like posting. They're only posting that one response that we just listened to. So let's take a listen to where the relationship is today. And if they have even discussed this, like is this something that they even cared about? Was it on their meter? I mean, so at this point it's like there's nothing we could do but move on. I know Mr. Matthew Knowles is threatening to take legal action and you know, I'll figure. Trying to figure out exactly what his angle in there in on that would be. But I would assume it's because of all of the negativity in the negative conversation that he received following this clip. And the clip wasn't have from what I was told, I was told that Mr. Matthew Knowles and team allegedly had that part of the interview removed. So if that is the angle, and again this is just my educated guess that that is what would happen. And even if it's just him going at various journalists or media outlets who reported it, I think it would be him going after anyone who tried to interpret what he did as disparaging to Ms. Tina Knowles indefinitely. Like, I think fair use, there's something called fair use where it's like, you know, if you're a person of the media or news organization, you are able to utilize various like assets, interviews, photos and just conversations and have conversations in a certain way because you're granted a certain level of, I won't say immunity because media is not immune in 2026 and every action has a reaction. Free speech ain't free. That is very clear. But fair use is normally brought up when a media outlet is trying to, is trying to have a conversation about what is granted. Like, how much can I do because I'm a person of the media and in my job, it is my job to inform the public and have certain conversations about certain things. But I will say that even with that there are responsibilities like there are, there are ways that you can and cannot talk about things and people. The definition of fair use in the media is legally using copyrighted material without permission through fair use. So commentary, criticisms, news, education, or using content that is in the public domain under Creative Commons licensing. Key, key considerations include if the use is transformative, the amount that you use and the impact on the market. So yeah, I, in my opinion, I think if he is actually moving forward with legal action and, and that's not just something that he's saying because, you know, he feels a way about the outlet that put out this video, which was page six. I think his issue would lie there. It would lie with outlet. But we'll, we'll keep you updated. We'll keep you updated. I don't want to, I don't want to speak for anybody. I just want to, you know, keep you guys updated as it happens. So that is what we will do. For period protection, you can put on and forget about nothing. Beats Nyx leak proof underwear. North America's number one leak proof underwear brand. Let's face it, life can be unpredictable. But your leak proof underwear shouldn't be. That's why millions of people choose Nyx for periods, for light leaks, for everyday freshness. Nyx undies are super comfy, super absorbent, and made to handle whatever your day throws at you. Day two of your period covered your daily run. No problem. That big sneeze? You know the one? Yup. We've got you. And with styles like bikinis, boy shorts, thongs, and high rise plus sizes from extra small to 4XL, NYX makes it easy to find your perfect fit. Say goodbye to stress and leaks and say hello to undies that work just as hard as you do, no matter the leak. Find the style and level of protection you want@nyx.com and use code 4 flow 15 for 15 off. That's K-N-I-X.com code flow 15 for 15 off. NYX for your leaks. For your life. We're stepping back and looking at what the human body needs to keep going. When you consider what we know about sleep in humans, there's one rule that comes out we are predictably unpredictable sleepers. We're talking about why sleep works the way it does, why our bodies don't follow neat rules, and why modern life makes rest so hard to come by. Queen Latifah uploaded a video to Instagram today and Queen like there was a big announcement that went down that Queen Latifah and Taraji P. Henson, you know, Queen Latifah has her flavor unit Entertainment. Taraji has Taraji P. Henson and her production company. They're going to partner together to be working on some things for Lifetime and they'll be telling stories across the platform and they're going to, you know, bring Tate Diggs into it as well too. So it was like a celebratory day for her and then all of a sudden I saw her post this video not too long ago on her Instagram. And I'm like, what happened? Like, what is she responding to? Let's take a listen to the video. And I still have yet to answer this question. That is something that we will bring back in our later episode potentially on the Breakfast Club, because this is all just happening right now in real time. But I'll tell you what has been speculated on the Internet that I didn't even know was a thing until she posted this video. Let's listen to Queen Latifah. Good morning, it's me, Latifah. I'm 100% A. Okay, I can't believe what you read on the Internet or see. Can't believe nothing now right. Now. Like I said here, here's the tricks that the Internet plays. So when she posted this video, instantly my next thought in storytelling is, okay, there had to have been a rumor about something health wise, because she's posting basically a proof of life video. But I know that there's also been issues with deep fake videos, but also AI photos, right? Dolly Parton, we talked about it here on the podcast. Dolly Parton had to get on her social media platform and let people know she was alive too. And then when we went to Ms. Patti LaBelle's house for Thanksgiving, Patti LaBelle told us at the Breakfast Club, when we did a Christmas breakfast with Ms. Patti LaBelle on the Breakfast Club. And she told us as well, she's had to really address things that she would have never addressed because they had her, you know, out of here as well. At one point with Dolly Parton, there was something about her in a Netflix series coming. I saw a post speaking of, you know, just random things in medical. They were saying that Ms. Patti LaBelle was going to be doing a free hospital where people could go and get care for for free, which was completely not true. So these things happen. But when, when you talk about it as the celebrity in the situation, it makes us go and look like, okay, well, what was the people saying? Like, what was happening? So instantly I go to Google and I Google what is wrong with Queen Latifah. I see threads and TikTok and random posts on Instagram, two different things. So I see a death hoax where people, like thought she wasn't alive. And then I see something about her having some sort of blood cancer and people feeling like she revealed to the world that she had blood cancer. And I'm like. And I see like, for five days ago, there's like a fake photo of her and somebody posted on their Insta story. And it's like prayers up for the Queen from Jersey. And in the photo, Queen Latifah is in a bed, she has like a tube in her nose, and she's holding up a sign that says, I have late stage cancer. This might be my last post. Please pray for me. And then the headline on this post is, Queen Latifah's Blood Cancer icons Midnight Revelation sparks Global outpouring of prayers and love. So basically, she had posted this, allegedly, according to these fake reports, because we know they fake. The fake reports were saying that she posted this, you know, one late midnight and everybody was freaking out. And now she's not, like, to the point where Queen Latifah, who is so out the way, who does not address anything, had to get online and post a video to show you guys that she is good. Look, I'm not mad at Mr. Matthew Knowles in saying he, look, legal action, y' all gonna stop playing with me now. I'm a journalist, I'm in the media, so I never wanna throw another media outlet under the bus and say they deserve legal action or whatever. But when it comes to, you know, protecting your name, on the other side of it, when it comes to protecting your name and things, I get it because in 2026, there's so much fake stuff. It's actually scary. Like, it's really scary because I feel like when I first started doing this, like, being in the media space with a real outlet, before that, I was just doing interviews on YouTube, right? And when I would hear or see something like what Queen Latifah had to post in response to, I would either wait because they may or may not respond on social media, Instagram was so new, you could barely do 15 second videos. When I was doing my YouTube stuff and just responding on social media and taking back your platform wasn't a big of a thing. Like, at that point, it was like people would only give statements to the media, or you would have to wait until they do their next interview to hear from them. So I would be like, okay, I need to get the next interview. And that's how we gonna find out if any of this is real or not. Or, I mean, if it was real, we wouldn't be able to get it. But nowadays things are so different. And it's like, I think the, the fake news and all that stuff spreads so fast. So it's like as the celebrity or as the business, you have to be able to, like, react. I wouldn't say fast because I Don't think a fast reaction is the best anytime anything circulating. But you have to be able to react in a way that, like, if it doesn't jump ahead of what's happening, it dominates the story. So Queen Latifah does not get online and address anything ever. Whistle all there's. There don't be no statements to nobody, no nothing. And she posted this video. That means it's not about reacting fast. It's about she knows the impact. Queen Latifah posting a video is going to make the whole world stop and listen because she doesn't do it. So this is her controlling and taking back the narrative. It's crazy to have to see her do that, knowing that she doesn't do it right. Knowing that she does not do that. Whoopi Goldberg just had to do that with the Epstein files. Like, these are people and Whoopi Goldberg is on the View, but she don't. And she had to apologize for laughing at something on America's Next Top Model because of social media as well. These are people that, even if outspoken, don't really. They don't get into the semantics of, like, the people and what's happening with the people saying they push through. They do what they got to do and they move on. Things have done change. Okay, this has been another episode of the Latest with Lauren the Rosa.
