Hey, y', all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa. And this is another episode of the Latest with Lauren LaRosa. This is your daily dig on all things pop culture, entertainment news, and all of the conversations that shake the room. Baby. Now y' all know we always start off just want to check in behind the scenes of the grind. So let's do it. All right, y'.
E
All.
A
We are halfway through through the week. Getting back to work and getting back to the things. Checking in behind the scenes of the Grind I am feeling. I mean, very pretty consistent. I was gonna say, like, regular, but I thank God every single day that I am literally living some of my, like, wildest dreams and, like, answer prayers. So I will never downplay what God is doing on a daily in my life and in the life of the people that I love by saying I'm just living a regular day. Because, baby, you know, we are not. We are living, we are breathing, we are creating, we are evolving, we are dominating. Ain't nothing regular about it. So if you guys can't tell, I am in a pretty good mood, you know, just feeling very confident about things that are to come. I think that I am constantly in an evolving phase of things, but I'm getting a lot better at grabbing a hold of what's happening right now, like the now and. And being as still as I can and taking control of my day and not letting my day take control of me as much as I can. And that has really helped me readjust my thinking, you know, my exhaustion some days from all of the things and just get through and navigate all of the things to do that, you know, require on a day to day. Adulting is crazy. It's like you. When you're not an adult, you want to grow up, become an adult, and just do things your own way so bad. And then you get to the point of your life where you are grown and you got to do everything and it's so much to do. And it's a. Do this be going crazy. And you know what I do? I'll be like, you know what? I need to take a nap. I can't even think straight. Please, I need to go take a nap. And then I do that and wake up and, you know, it's like a refreshed feeling, but it's just insane to think about how, like, I remember wanting to graduate high school so bad, wanting to graduate college so bad and just get out into the world. And now I'm in the world and I'd be like, nap time, please. Like, can we go back to those days where those things mattered? Okay. But rest is important, so make sure you're getting it. Now let's get on into the latest. All right, y'.
E

So I don't know what the heck is going on, but Kendrick Lamar's gnx, which was the last album he put out, which had not like us on it, which is the infamous or one of the infamous Drake Diss records, and a couple of the others, including Euphoria, Meet the Grahams. Even. Even Luther with SZA on one project on that album, and it was a whole worldwide tour that they did that, like, made history. That project is playing peekaboo, no pun intended, across streaming services and across YouTube because yesterday it went missing. So I told y', all, you know, in my adult life now I've realized the importance of my naps and how to nap correctly, how to get a good amount of sleep, wake up, still get things done, and tackle all of your to dos. And the 50,000 more things to do that have come while you've taken that nap. I woke up from a nap and my phone was going insane with so many people reaching out to me, trying to understand what the hell happened and why Kendrick Lamar's music was no longer on streaming platforms. And YouTube, some of it, anyway. So here's the background. So yesterday, Monday, Luther, the music video Not Like Us, the music video, and I'm seeing reports of others, but I didn't catch those in real time. I caught the Not Like Us in real time disappeared from YouTube. Now, on the streaming platform side, I caught this in real time. I woke up and had a ton of texts and, like, I even had some friends calling me just trying to make sure I saw it in other platforms, reaching out because they were reporting on it, but they wanted to understand more of what actually happened. So I'm currently digging now. I've reached out to Universal Music on this as well, and we'll get into that to figure out what actually happened. But on streaming platforms, Apple Music, Kendrick Lamar's music was removed. Not all of his music, but gnx. The album was no longer available on Apple Music. And then when you went over to Title, you were able to see some of the songs from GX if they had been, like, uploaded and added into, like, certain playlists. But you couldn't find, nor could you listen to just the album itself, like, in full on Spotify. However, the album was still available. Now, at the same time, all of these things are happening at the same time, right? So I reach out to Universal Music and I'm like, hey, to legal over there. And I, you know, have been going back and forth with them as the Not Like Us lawsuit. You know, updates have been coming because Drake is suing Universal Music Group for what he alleges. You know, the damages he alleges he encountered because of them pushing, allegedly pushing the song Not Like Us with the, you know, pedophile in the song, right? And the legend that Drake is a pedophile. So I have a direct line over There. So I hit them up and I'm like, hey, GNX is no longer available on Apple Music. The Not Like Us video has been taken down. And I believe Luther has been taken down as well too. But it was confusing because Luther was like the old video was popping up and then it wasn't at the same time. But I think it was whatever was happening, it was in the process of happening. They email me right back and they say, Lauren, I'm literally looking at it talking about GNX on Spotify now who's saying it's been removed? Question mark. Now this is Universal Music Group's legal team now. I respond back. And, and, and I had said this in my original email that it was still available on Spotify, but I told them exactly where you could go that you would no longer be able to find it. So I just responded back and was like, yes, you know, as I was mentioning, it is still available on Spotify, but it's not available on Apple Music. It's, you know, here's the only way you can listen to even certain songs and, and not even a full album, but very, maybe a couple songs only on title. What's going on? And I have yet to hear back from Universal Music Group. What I did catch in real time on the YouTube side was the Not Like Us video had been taken down. And at the time that it had been taken down, it had over 400 million views, right? And then at the time that I had woken up, it was about an hour since a new music video for Not Like Us, same music video, but just a new upload had been uploaded to Kendrick Lamar's official YouTube channel. And it had way less than 400 million views, of course, because it had only been up for a few hours and all of the comments had flooded and was like, who's here? After it was removed and you know, people asking questions, trying to figure out what happened. So then right before I was about to do this podcast episode, I went back and I looked to verify I was preparing for this podcast episode last night. So I went back again to just look to see, okay, what's up? How many views does it currently have? Because I'm thinking I want to see the new upload for Not Like Us and for Luther and a new video count. But then I see and I noticed that the OG videos are back up from a year ago. So I'm not for sure what is going on here, but something is going on. Those are big slip ups. And the label still has not gotten back to me at this time. So I'm trying to figure out what's going on, and so is the world, and as I know you guys will know, but there has been nothing official at the time of me recording this podcast that has been put out, but something is going on. Those songs are too big off of that project. That project was too big of a project for it to be removed at any point. And, you know, it's big, and, you know it's a big deal. When the project came out over a year ago and the fans are telling you that it's missing from. That means people are still checking for it actively, both the video and the songs in the. In the album on streaming. So I'll keep you guys updated there, you know, as we figure out what happened and why. Now, speaking of, got some explaining to do. Cheryl Underwood, who was a part of the big Kevin Hart roast that went down, and, baby, when I tell y', all, she was one of the people that killed it. Cher, Underwood, Regina. Regina Hall, Tony. He killed Tony. He was one of my favorites as well, even though people were really upset at him right now. Who else? Chelsea Handler was one of my favorites as well. Who else? Naim did a good job, but, like, those. The people that I named before Naim, to me, they. They were the one who kicked it off. Yeah, I. I think everybody was good, and everybody was so vulgar. That's what I liked about it. They didn't hold back. So here's the thing, right? Cheryl Underwood was one of the people last night who got her. I was, I'm gonna say, got her behind handed to her, but I don't mean that in a way of, like, she couldn't keep up. I mean, they was coming for my girl off rip. They were making jokes about the. The host of the roast, Shane Gillis, who hosted the Kevin Hart rose Off Rip was coming for Cheryl Underwood. Like, I mean, the jokes was flying like crazy. Jeff Ross has some jokes for her. Everybody had jokes for her, particularly the jokes about her husband and her husband's suicide, which, when you heard it, you were like, oh, shoot. Let's take a listen to the jokes that were thrown her way, and then we'll hear her response at the roast and her response a day after to tnt.
F
Oh, no, no, hold up. Let me know. Now, now, now, let me talk. Her husband committed suicide three years into their marriage. I've been sitting next to her for two hours, and I have to ask, how did he last that long?
G
Cheryl's husband killed himself. Apparently, black does crack. If it's married to Cheryl and jumps off a roof. It was. Let's just find the most sensitive thing and just go in on it.
H
Well, I think it's the new way of roasting. When I first came to Los Angeles, I was hanging out in the Friar's Club with those old fashioned borscht belt roasters, those Jackie Masons, and, you know, those guys. And that's why I said to Kevin at the end, we only roast who we love. There was a team of us and rehearsing things that we could say and what the parameters were. But the. But the best part was being with my colleagues. The best part was hanging out and Tiffany Haddish and Lizzo and my fraternity brother, J Dub, one of the plastic cup boys, and all of us that know each other. That's why I said freedom of speech is alive and well, and it's alive in Netflix, y'.
F
All.
A
It was funny as hell. I thought it was. It was funny.
G
Funny.
A
Now, here's the thing. People were, you know, they had a. The white. The white comedians that were up there. A lot of their jokes were race based, including this George Floyd joke that Tony Hinchcliff did that a lot of people were not feeling. Let's take a listen.
F
You've done good though, Kevin. The black community is so proud of you. Right now, George Floyd is looking up us at us all laughing so hard
A
that he can't even race jokes thrown at Kevin Hart. So, you know, it got the people going. You know, the people were upset about this. And I'mma be honest with y', all, for it to be comedy for me, I was not upset about it. I thought it was funny. It literally reminded me of the old days of, like what? Like the, The. The. The raw comedy that I grew up watching because that's what my mom would play in my house. And Cheryl Underwood said it best at the roast. Like, free speech is back kinda sorta. Because the Rock got in trouble a bit. Or the people are trying to condemn him for using the R word. He used it. Use the R word. Let's take a listen to the Rock during his roast.
G
Epic Draymond is in the house. My guy. I was thinking about this. You know, of all the cool ass black names you could have, that is the laziest black name I've ever heard. Because all you did was put a D in front of Raymond. Fucking retarded. And on top of all that, your retarded name, your team got bounced from the playoffs again.
A
It was in context of the joke. It was funny. People laughed. They moved on. Now let's take a listen to Cheryl Underwood, who actually has a sister who is a part of the community that is being choked on true roast comedy.
H
It is not meant. It's not for mainstream domain. You're talking about Netflix. And I know people don't agree, and to say, well, why would you use these words? But what I thought was good about what the Rock did, everybody was questioning his blackness, and he really made the connection. It's a way for us to talk about the issues with humor and come to some common ground. Years ago, you couldn't say M word for little people, couldn't say R word for the disabled. I have a joke that I tell about my own sister. I tried to say disabled, but it does not work. Sometimes politically correctness does not fit in context, y'.
A
All. The roast was brilliant. The roast was brilliant. Because, honestly, if you think about it, this is what comedy is supposed to do. And I know a lot of people give Kevin Hart a lot of because they feel like he's so political now. He can't say certain things now. And I loved how he even joked about that. And, like, literally, he joked about the fact that he knew that, you know, people talk about the sponsors and all the money surrounding him now and what he can and can't do. I love that he put together something that emulated the essence of comedy that he comes from. And, yeah, he might not be able to go as far as a lot of these comedians and entertainers did last night on that stage, but Kevin Hart is a genius for knowing to put the people together, knowing that the world needed that at that time, and it worked. It caused so much conversation and laughs. People had a good time. Now, one of the things I thought was fire about the roast was that normally when you're roasting, like when they do the Tom Brady roast, it's different because Tom Brady's not a comedian. But Kevin Hart was able to stand up and defend himself and kind of roast back at the end. You know, there was a moment that him and Katt Williams made up, and a lot of people are circulating this moment, but they're not circulating Kevin Hart's response. So let's take a listen to the moment first.
I
Hello, Kevin.
E
Hello, Cat.
I
I'm surprised they invited me. That's how little star power you have. They had to start inviting your enemies. I said, I hate him. They said, come anyway. Very humble of me to be at your goat roast tonight, Kevin. I've won an Emmy Award, but this is gonna be My best acting tonight as I pretend like you are a goat for the people at home. You're wondering, why is the cat man doing it? For the money, bitch. This is my Riyadh comedy festival. Only one with a soul. Kevin, you going to hear some things tonight that you're not familiar with. Those things are called punchlines.
A
And then now let's go to Kevin Hart's response to Me and this man
E
have been at odds for years on years. You coming out here, quite the surprise with Cat. I can sit, I can watch you. I can laugh because I'm a fan first. Okay. I'm a fan first. Kat, we have an opportunity in real time. This is live television. To put our beef behind us. I am offering you an olive branch of peace. I want to be a brother. I want to be a friend, Cat. I want to move on. Can we move on, man? Can we move on? Cat Williams one time, man, and what
A
I thought was so fire. I love seeing the plastic cup boys on stage, which are Kevin Hart's like, homies and you know, from Philly, other comedians that he's putting on that have been his friends, like his real core group of a one day ones for a very long time. Naim Lynn is a part of that. He was one of the comedians that took the stage at the roast. But I love seeing the roots on the stage and black thought opening up the show. Just keeping it very Philly, keeping it very, you know, uplifting and support his people, period. But Meek Mill closed out the evening. And I don't care what you say about me, laugh, joke, or you want about them tweets. Meek and dreams and nightmares. And Meek said this on X Unmatched, one of the best intro records, honestly. Rap records, honestly. When it comes to songs that are like anthems like this of our. Of my generation, at least take a listen to me. I wish I was at the roast here. Y' all could be mad all y' all want. I wish I was there. I think it was genius. I can't. I was gonna say I can't wait for part two. But I mean, I don't think this is something Kevin harsher rush and do a second one of. I think the genius of it was the fact that we haven't felt like this and felt and seen comedians be able to be this free in a very long time period. And then, you know, they were a little bit conscious when it came to, like. I know there were certain times where they would say, like, oh, they didn't want to make jokes about the black women on the stage and, you know, stuff like that. I feel like I would love to hear from Regina hall to see how she felt about the racial jokes. And, you know, just because they were taking a lot of precaution with her, they did not want to play with her, her at all. But I was here for it. I thought the roast was great. Let me know how you guys felt. I'm Lauren LaRosa. Everywhere. L O R E N L O R O s a Lauren LaRosa, TV for all the visuals of this thing, I tell you guys, every single episode, y' all could be anywhere with any old body talking about all of these things. But you guys choose to be right here with me, my low riders. I appreciate you guys, and I'll catch you in in my next episode. This is an I heart podcast. Guaranteed human.
