Knix Advertiser
All.
Lauren LaRosa
So y' all know we always start off the episode checking in behind the scenes of the grind. Guys, I did the View. Like, you know, the one with, like, Whoopi Goldberg, kind of sunny, you know, like, with the girls, like the View. I did it shout out to Charlemagne. I mean, I don't know how he figured that out. Leverage that. But, I mean, him being who he is, he was able to maneuver where, you know, when he did the View this week, I was a part of the package deal. I came with him to also be on the View as well. Amazing experience. I think it's so crazy because when I woke up the morning of to do the View or to do actually to go to work, to go to Breakfast Club, I was a little nervous. I'm not even gonna lie to y'.
Charlamagne Tha God
All.
Lauren LaRosa
I was a little nervous, and it wasn't like a nervous, like, oh, my God. I don't know what I'm saying. I don't know what I'm gonna do. It was, like, nervous, like, almost like butterflies. Like, it was, like, excitement, but it was just like, yo, this is the View. Like, what. Like, what is my life right now? I. Oh, they literally say you make a plan, and God laughs at your plan. I always have very high aspirations and goals and, you know, all the things for myself, but some of the things that God be just, like, effortlessly throwing my way, and the people that he is, like, putting in my life to, like, help me grow, help me maneuver, help me, you know, all those things, I just be like, yo, what. What. What is life right now? Like, what is going on? This is a dream, and I'm literally living it in real life. So we were on the View. We talked about a few different topics, one of them being the Knicks going to the White House. And you guys know I got the statement from the White House after James Dolan went on that radio show and talked about the fact that the Knicks were going to the White House. And the statement from a White House representative basically said that they had been talking to the Knicks team, and they were excited for the team to come, and people were trying to figure out whether the Knicks are going to go or not. So we talked about that on the View. Let's take a listen.
The View Host
Now, the owner of the Knicks, Jim Dolan says that the team has accepted an invitation to visit Trump at the White House, and he is the owner of the team. Do you think they should go?
Lauren LaRosa
No, I don't think they should go.
Knix Advertiser
Why?
The View Host
Why not?
Lauren LaRosa
Um, I just. I don't see the. I don't see the why in it. I feel like this moment has been so, like, everybody's coming together, and, you know, like, I think when you start doing things like going to the White House and stuff like that, like, it gets. It divides people, and I think that we should continue to just be happy and in the glory of the win.
The View Host
What do you think, Charlamagne?
Charlamagne Tha God
Um, you know, listen, I think that they're all grown adults, and they can do what it is that they want to do, but if they're not going to, I would like for them to tell us the reason why. Like, you know, we know that no NBA team has won a championship and has visited the White House thus far. But you should let folks know, hey, if it's a political reason why you don't want to go, let them know the reason. Right? Cause I think sometimes, you know, we normalize what's going on in the White House because we don't speak out about it. Like, don't tell me that it's just a scheduling conflict, right?
Lauren LaRosa
You know what I mean?
Charlamagne Tha God
Give me the actual reason. Give me the actual reason why it is you don't want to be.
Lauren LaRosa
And then we were closing out the View, and they asking us about the Breakfast Club, and we started talking about boss spots. It was such a. Like, a Breakfast Club coded moment, though. Take a listen.
Bethenny Frankel
How has it been going, and why did you want to do this?
Lauren LaRosa
Well, it's been going good, but Charlotte may be on there talking about all this stuff behind the scenes, talking about, like, bald spots and just different things. Right? You have a bald spot.
The View Host
Calling him.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, I'm bald. Yeah. No, no, no, no, no.
Charlamagne Tha God
Now. So that was projection.
Lauren LaRosa
So it's been amazing, though, because I feel like we're on air and we're on the radio and we get to do the segments. But then behind the scenes, I think people get to really see how we are in real life. And I was just telling son, they grasp. They love us. The behind us.
Knix Advertiser
Yes.
Lauren LaRosa
It's, like, so much love and fun, and people get to see that, too.
Bethenny Frankel
But wait, though.
Lauren LaRosa
He's saying, you have a bold spot.

So now like, my family is texting me and calling me. A lot of them were texting and calling me, though, just when it was announced. Like, when Charlamagne and the View posted it, they were hitting me up about it, but over the weekend, and then I was with my family over the weekend, so, like, you know, a few of them, I got a chance to, like, you know, talk to them about it, like, the fact that it was going to be going down. So, yeah, like, man, this is crazy. And I didn't cry, y'. All. I was so happy that I did not cry. Charlamagne gonna say, you better not go in there crying either. Like, shut up. Like, leave me alone. Ain't nobody gonna cry. I do be crying, though, y'. All, I believe, because I think I'd just be so grateful at what God has done in my life. And I think it's a different feeling when, like. Like, I've always had such a close relationship with God, and God has always shown up in my life, like, in major ways, like, all the time. He's always made his presence very, very known in my life. And always, like. Like, it's been times in my life where I've literally said to God, like, God, like, I. I don't know. I don't know about this one. I don't know if I believe you, and if I should show up. And he literally would show up in waves where I'm like, isn't. That's nothing but him. So as I experience things like this where, like, you know, my career is unfolding in a way that only I could have dreamed of. Like, I set out to do all of this, but to see it actually happening, it's just like, what the hell is going on some days? But, yeah, y' all know where I'm coming from. Yeah, it's just. It's literally a dream come true. That full episode of the View with me and Charlemagne from June 22 is live on the Views YouTube page. They also posted some content to their Instagram and their Twitter account, so make sure you guys go check it out. And I also have a behind the scenes vlog of the day of us getting there and all of the stuff on my YouTube channel. If you're listening to this, go check out my YouTube channel. Lauren LaRosa TV L O R E N L O R O S A T V to see all of the behind the scenes leading up to the moment that we walked onto the View set. I'm coming off a high. If I'm checking in and telling you How I'm feeling like I am. Like things have been going so well sometimes it's a little scary. I mean things are not always perfect though. So I do have that balance of like, yeah, things are good but like things be getting a little crazy sometimes too. But sometimes it's a little scary cuz I'm like h. Things are going so well right now. Like I'm looking over my shoulder like hold on, what's going to happen?
The View Host
What's.
Lauren LaRosa
And everybody healthy things is going good, what's going on. But I, I try to put those thoughts out of my mind because when God says he has things for you and when God promised you things, that's exactly what be happening. And I'm not mad at it at all. I am so grateful to God to be receiving all of these blessings and to, to be able to talk about it I think has been the biggest blessing. Like being able to share how none of this is, is, is possible without God and without me having a strong faith in God. And I was watching church over the weekend and just thinking about a lot of things like they talked about like forgiveness and fathers and you know, all of that type of stuff. And my biggest thing as I was listening to all of it is like, I just want to make sure I'm posturing correctly. And when I say posturing, I don't mean like, you know how people. Sometimes I feel like posturing can come off or sound like it's coming off as like you want to make sure you're like positioned the right way and with the right people next to the right people. Like that's not what I mean when I say posturing. I want to make sure that like I'm cleaning out my, my, my heart, my soul, my spirit, all the things that I got going on that I'm, I'm not too impressed by all the time and I know can be better and like, you know, I'm a villain in somebody's story. I didn't hurt people. Not physically, not physically, but you know what I mean? Like everybody, like everybody come with their bs. Like I have my own bs, you got your own bs, we all come with it. But I'm really trying to do such a good job of like correcting things in real time now, like so that what I'm receiving is what is a direct reflection of what I'm putting out. And I just feel so blessed right now by what I'm able to do in my own life, in the life of my family and like the things that I'm experiencing opportunities that I'm getting that I feel like I would be disrespecting God if I did anything but make sure I get right. Make sure that I am like faithful to him on this journey that I'm talking about it, that I am like literally a disciple for him right now. Because I know like me and him got this thing going on where like I knew, I, I knew early on and I know currently that like he is walking and guiding. He is entering into those rooms before I even do. So yeah, yeah, this is life. Life is, life is good right now, man. Like it. It really is. And I'm so blessed to have a platform like the latest with Lauren, the ros of the podcast to document a lot of this. You guys have been along this journey with me for the last like year or so. If you got a chance to check out the View already or if you're listening to this and you're going to go check it out, I want to

I took a lot of time just talking through the View and all the feelings of the things, but one of the things that the ladies on the View actually talked about was Carmelo Anthony and the fact that there was, you know, an appeal was going to happen. There's new body cam footage that has come out from police of the arrest. Let's take a listen to a piece of that body cam footage that people are having conversations about right now. It was announced today that Carmelo Anthony has a all star dynamic legal appeal team, appeals team, as he goes into, you know, setting up his appeal. He's currently behind bars, sentenced to 35 years for the stabbing death of Austin Metcalfe, who was the other teen boy at the track meet that day that, you know, he got into the dispute with. And it's a sad situation on both sides. It really is. But Carmelo Anthony is trying to appeal and I believe that he should. I think that there were some things, and we've talked about it here on the podcast in previous episodes, I believe there were some things in trial that were not done, the best way to, you know, provide his defense. And the ladies on the View had a really interesting conversation about, you know, at the end of the day, right. Like if the, if, if self defense was considered in the way that we want it to be, what would have been an appropriate sentencing? Because, I mean, someone did die, so. Right. So someone. So Carmelo Anthony will have to, you know, face the consequences for that. And I don't think anybody is arguing that. I think what people are arguing is that they want things to be fair. They want things to be consistent. They want, you know, that's it. Right. What would that look like? Let's take a listen to their conversation. Now, me and Charlamagne were not a part of this conversation. This was actually before we came onto the View. But let's take a listen to what the ladies on the View had to say about that.
The View Host
This has been an issue for such a long time in the judicial system where prosecutors use what are called, you know, batson challenges, and they explain what that is. It's a challenge that is used to strike a juror, generally a juror of color, for a race neutral reason.
Charlamagne Tha God
Right.
The View Host
Cause you're not supposed to. You're supposed to have a jury of your peers and you're not supposed to just strike someone because they're black. And in this case, they gave the reasoning that they're educators. And this happened. These were high school students and this happened at a school track meet. So they couldn't be impartial because of that. I don't think that's an appropriate reason.
Lauren LaRosa
These are the best ones, too.
The View Host
Yeah. I don't think it's an appropriate reason to strike black jurors, especially when it's a young black teenager on trial and Especially when that particular area is made up of 10% of an African American community. So I don't think he got a jury of his peers. So I think on appeal there is a legitimate thing, legitimate reason. I also think we have to look at self defense here because there seems to be two systems of justice at play in this country and there have been for a very long time. I was part of the system, so I understand that and I believe that to be true in this case. This young man, you heard him say he put his hands on me and I told him not to. This the kid that, that died. And I have so much empathy for him and his family's loss. That kid was 200 pounds. This kid was 130 pounds. And the other kid was also taller than he is. He was the only black kid under the tent. And the victim here had his twin brother with him who was also a very large person. If you don't fear for your life, if you weigh 130 pounds, I weigh 130 pounds facing somebody that's 200 pounds, I would be terrified of that. So I don't understand why self defense was rejected by this jury.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah. And I think, you know that that is going to be the interesting thing with this new appeals team. Right. Like it's where, where do we go from here? So, you know, the new appeals team is consistent of the NAACP president Gary Bless. Blesso. I'm probably saying that wrong. I'm so sorry. A veteran appellate attorney, Russell Wilson ii, civil rights attorney, Brooke Cluse. I know Ben Crump is kind of like loosely in the mix of this as well too. I was told that some of these attorneys are working pro bono. And you know, the focus of this is going to be, you know, were there errors that occurred during the proceedings. And this all star legal team plans to raise any issues that it believes could support overturning the conviction. So they're, you know, taking the first look at the case and going to try and figure that out. And I'm very interested to see where all this lands. You know what I mean? It's kind of difficult to talk about because it's like you have this young man who is behind bars facing 35 years, which is a lifetime. Right. And then you have another young man who lost his life and there's conversations about self defense. And we don't fully know. Like we, we've heard things through court, but I feel like things we don't. We weren't fully given the full picture throughout the court proceedings. And I Do think that self defense should have been considered way more in this. So those are things that we're gonna have to think about as we move forward in this. It's just so sad to see because these are, these are, these are people's kids, these people's babies. I saw a video over the weekend of Wiz Khalifa talking to his son, and I was like, you know, the scariest thing about me preparing to become a parent, and even with my niece, my knee. I told you guys, my niece was here with me last week for about a week. The scariest thing is, like, you raise these babies up and then you give them to the world, and you can't control the things that they come across. A lot of the time, Wiz Khalifa's son called him about facing a bully in school, and there has been conversation about whether Carmelo Anthony was defending himself from what he felt like was aggression or, you know, something that people would even call bullying or, you know, a bullying tactics to try and remove him from under a tent. And these are things that were that are going to be re explored as the appeal goes on. But I thought that the way Wiz Khalifa had the conversation with his son around this, knowing what, you know is happening in the world right now, I thought that it was, it was a really good parent moment. Let's take a listen.
Charlamagne Tha God
And that's not always a reason to fight. Sometimes people are going to talk, and sometimes y' all gonna go back and forth. That don't mean you got to use your hands.
Lauren LaRosa
All right, I'm not going to resort to that, like, immediately. If he, I, I told everybody is if he puts his hands on me first, I'm, I, I'm gonna. But like, if I'm not gonna put my hands on him first, I'm just not gonna do that. Cuz I'm not like that.
Charlamagne Tha God
I know you're not. I know you're not. And thank you for calling me.
Lauren LaRosa
He's like an aggressive person, so I know he's gonna try to fight me, and if he tries to fight me, I'm gonna do the same.
Charlamagne Tha God
You already heard what I said about de escalating the situation, right?
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, well, I tried. He still wants to fight me, but
Charlamagne Tha God
we on, we on that. All right? Yeah. Okay. Well, thank you for calling me and letting me know, but I really don't want you to be getting into no rumbles like that, especially just out in the streets and just like randomly like that, because you, you, you never know, man. Like, it could go so many different Types of ways. So that's. You know, I'm all. I'm all about, like, protecting yourself and a little scrap ain't nothing. But if it's. If it's something you can avoid, just do your best. All right? Yeah.
Lauren LaRosa
I mean, again, this is one of those things where we just got the. When it comes to Carmelo Anthony's case for the stabbing death of Austin Metcalfe, we're gonna have to watch how this appeal turns out. What I think, and this is me removing my, like, factual hat.
Knix Advertiser
Right.
Lauren LaRosa
Where I think the. The appellate team should go is I think that they definitely need to do a lot better at painting Carmelo Anthony as a person. I feel like the prosecution in the lower courts that convicted him did a really good job of making him out to be a monster. And when you listen to that video, the. You know, the security footage, there's another part of security footage too, where he's talking about the fact that he was defending himself against Austin, who he alleged put his hands on him. Let's take a listen to that Mario

When you listen to stuff like that, it's like these were two young kids that were just in the moment. Carmelo Anthony is obviously in fear. You can hear it in his voice. And I don't think that his legal team on a lower level did a good job of painting that picture at all. So I think that that's where the appellate team should focus a lot of their time and attention to. I think, you know, there was a lot of conversation about the fact that the knife was involved and it was a stabbing. I think, you know, more conversation about the, the weapon itself and what it was versus how it was portrayed prior to. Like, I just think that before everything was made to be this like vicious attack where it's like, you know, you never want a kid to lose their life. And that's why this is hard to talk about because it's like you don't want to go against the fact that you never want a kid to lose their life. You never want anyone to lose their life. You never want a parent to have to bury their child. And those are all things to be considered. But when people had conversations around the, the knife that Carmel Anthony had on him, it wasn't made clear that it was, you know, it was a pocket knife that it wasn't illegal for him to have. That is something that people care for protection all the time. Now I've heard testimony during the, the lower level court situation where they had a conversation about whether that was needed or not. Like, why would you need to take that to attract me? But I also think the appellate team needs to really, really help the jury understand or, or the, the panel of judges and at the appeals, you know, part of this understand or just be a little bit empathetic too. However they can do that, the fact that this is a young black boy. So the fears are a little bit different when you walking out into the world every day. And that, and that matters in this widely. And I don't think that that was done well either. So, you know, we'll, we'll look, you know, to see what happens in this. We'll keep up with it. We'll be talking about it here on the Latest with Lauren LaRosa the podcast and let me know your thoughts. I'm Lauren LaRosa. Everywhere L O R E N L O R O S A Let me know your thoughts. This bonus episode of "The Latest with Loren LoRosa" centers on Loren’s personal and professional breakthroughs, highlighted by her recent appearance on "The View" alongside Charlamagne Tha God. Loren takes listeners behind the scenes of this milestone, reflects on how faith has shaped her path, and unpacks critical current topics in culture—most notably, the legal appeals process for Carmelo Anthony, drawing on recent developments and broader themes of justice. The tone is candid, warm, grateful, and insightfully critical, with Loren making personal connections to the news stories she discusses.
Behind the Scenes Journey (02:41–04:00)
“It was, like, excitement, but it was just like, yo, this is the View. ... I always have very high aspirations and goals… but some of the things that God be just, like, effortlessly throwing my way… I just be like, yo, what. What is life right now?” — Loren LoRosa (04:00)
Hot Topics Discussion on "The View"
The Knicks’ White House Invite (05:24–06:30)
"No, I don't think they should go... I think when you start doing things like going to the White House and stuff like that, it gets... it divides people, and I think that we should continue to just be happy and in the glory of the win." — Loren LoRosa (05:38)
"If they're not going to, I would like for them to tell us the reason why... don't tell me it's just a scheduling conflict, right?" — Charlamagne Tha God (06:03)
Breakfast Club Banter (06:30–07:17)
“Well, it’s been going good, but Charlotte may be on there talking about all this stuff behind the scenes, talking about, like, bald spots and just different things. Right? You have a bald spot.” — Loren (06:46)
Personal Reflections on Putting Family First
(07:34–10:10)
“...sometimes it's a little scary because I'm like h. Things are going so well right now. Like I'm looking over my shoulder like hold on, what's going to happen?” — Loren (10:10)
Recap and New Developments (16:55–21:02)
“This has been an issue for such a long time in the judicial system where prosecutors use what are called... batson challenges... to strike a juror, generally a juror of color, for a race neutral reason.... I don't think he got a jury of his peers.” — The View Host (18:59–19:45)
On the Self-Defense Argument & Appeal
“If you don't fear for your life... I would be terrified of that. So I don't understand why self-defense was rejected by this jury.” — The View Host (19:45–21:02)
Parenting, Violence and Empathy: Wiz Khalifa’s Son Moment
(21:02–24:40)
“The scariest thing about me preparing to become a parent… you raise these babies up and then you give them to the world, and you can't control the things that they come across.” — Loren (22:26)
“That's not always a reason to fight. Sometimes people are going to talk, and sometimes y' all gonna go back and forth. That don't mean you got to use your hands.” — Charlamagne Tha God (23:55)
Strategic Focus for Carmelo Anthony’s Appeal
(24:40–29:42)
“...this is a young black boy. So the fears are a little bit different when you walking out into the world every day. … I don't think that that was done well either.” — Loren (29:42)
“...what God has done in my life. ... He is entering into those rooms before I even do. So yeah... this is life. Life is good right now.” — Loren (11:10)
"I don't think it's an appropriate reason to strike black jurors, especially when it's a young black teenager on trial." — The View Host (19:45)
“I didn't cry, y'all. All. I was so happy that I did not cry. Charlamagne gonna say, you better not go in there crying either. Like, shut up. Like, leave me alone.” — Loren (07:34)
Loren invites her audience to engage regarding her “View” appearance and thoughts on the Carmelo Anthony case.
“If you got a chance to check out the View already or if you're listening to this and you're going to go check it out, I want to know what you think… let me know how you think I did.” — Loren (12:56)
She encourages ongoing reflection about faith, justice, self-image, and media’s role in culture:
“You guys have been along this journey with me for the last like year or so... I just feel so blessed right now by what I'm able to do in my own life, in the life of my family and, like, the things that I'm experiencing...” — Loren (10:10)
Summary:
This episode is part personal diary, part social commentary. Loren welcomes listeners into intimate reflections on faith, success, and navigating spaces previously only dreamed of—while also challenging listeners to think deeply about fairness and humanity within the justice system, especially concerning young Black men. As always, listener engagement and real-life connection are encouraged, maintaining a tone that is upbeat, honest, and culturally plugged in.
