So coming off of a very rust filled weekend, I went home to Delaware this weekend and did a bunch of nothing with my family. Well, we technically did things, but it was technically us taking some time to do nothing. Like, I mean, as far as, like, all the ripping and running and things. My grandma literally said to me about, like a week ago. She was like, you always coming here, something to do. You always ripping and running. You need to sit down. And I was like, all right, so these next, like, couple weekends that, you know, I'm. I'm. I'm just here. I'm working during the week, and I got my weekends free. I'm gonna take some time. So I went home this weekend. We played cards on Friday, literally all night long. My grandmother loves to play spades, so we played spades. And I was tired, y'.

We did the Breakfast club on Friday. And then after that, I went home and slept for about an hour, drove to Delaware, about a two hour drive, and then we played spades from about 4 or 5 o' clock all the way to like 12:30 in the morning. Okay. Y' all know my grandma woke up the next day talking about, can we play another game of spades? I'm like, mama, we don't. We don't even have any players left at this point. Everybody is spades out. We also ate crabs and, you know, just spent time. Normally when I'm home with my mom and my grandmother, we always watch movies. They love Tyler Perry, so we do a lot of the Tyler Perry movies. So Saturday I did that with them up until I went out to dinner with some friends. We watched why Did I Get Married? And then we watched why Did I Get Married Too? On Sunday. Sunday morning before I headed back home. Yeah. So, yeah, this weekend was good. I think going home is always like a reset. I don't know if I get the type of rest that I get when I'm in Jersey because I'm, like, secluded. I'm in my apartment, I'm by myself. I'm able to sleep and just kind of like be in silence. In Delaware, it's a little bit different. Because, you know, when you're home, everybody wants to make sure you get a chance to see them or whatever. And I'm not always able to do all of that, but it is definitely a reset. Like, it feels good coming back into like such a busy paced, like city and like work life after being home where, you know, things are a little bit like nobody cares about work. Everybody just wants to, like in real life, just like catch up and spend time. So yeah, we got to do that. So shout out to my girls, we got to do that. And I mean, that's something that we do often, but it's been a while. Y' all know, we've been on the go everywhere from, you know, LA for BET Awards weekend to Essence Festival to just trying to get a get a day or two of sleeping in between. Like right now is really the season where I'm grinding. Like I'm grinding, grinding, grinding, trying to be very conscious where I don't grind myself into the ground. But I'm very aware that like, this is the season where like, I gotta prioritize, like checking some things off of the list, checking some boxes before I can like, just chill. So speaking of girls that are out here on their grind, let's get on into the latest because Angel Reese is having some issues and it's because she's a black woman. But what's new? So Angel Reese, who we know recently transferred to the Atlanta Dream, and when she switched teams, when she headed to Atlanta, to the Atlanta Dream, it was such a big deal because Angel Reese is phenomenal. But also, like, I think what we're beginning to watch happen with the wnba, because, y' all know, I'm not like a big sports person. Like, I'm not religiously watching any team or any game or any series or anything like that. But there is an element of celebrity to the conversation around certain players, around certain teams, around certain things that are happening within, you know, the wnba, the NBA. And that's where I tap in. That's where I pay attention. Now. Angel Reese, I actually like years, years, years, years ago, when Angel Reese had first got to college, I remember being in the newsroom and there being conversations about Angel Reese because she was. They tried to make it seem like she was causing issues on the floor because she was competitive in the game. And that really wasn't it. The issue was that, you know, a lot of times when you're a black woman, you're good at what you do. You're confident in that and you're not afraid to tell people or show that. It turns into that it turns into what we do too much of, whether we're too aggressive or we're too competitive or we don't know how to. You know what I mean? Like, I think the world loves to try and humble us a bit. And when I remember the earliest conversations I remember around Angel Reese is the conversation about, you know, people was trying to say she was so ghetto because she was coming out of Baltimore. And then there was a moment with her and Caitlin Clark and, you know, and I just remember feeling like, wow, I know what it's like to be that girl that's from around,

good at some things or even if you're not good at you confident in the fact that you even there and you trying it and people don't really know how to take it. So you got to carve out a space for yourself. And all these years later, we are back here. Angel Reese has had tons of success, championship wins. She's been on the COVID of Vogue, you know, has a very successful podcast. She is a brand, a business,

is excelling and we're back here having a conversation about the color of her skin because there is a coach who heads up the Toronto tempo. And this head coach, Sandy Brondello was suspended without pay for one game because she was upset at a call that did or did not happen when it came to Angel Reese. So here's what went down during the Dream Atlanta Dreams game where they were playing Toronto on this past Friday, which they won, by the way. They won 111 and 92. A player named Naira Sabali fouled Angel Reese after an offense, after an offensive rebound took place. Right. So the call is being reviewed. And the coach, Ms. Sandy Brandello, yelled at the referees, Right? And as she's yelling, microphones pick her up, saying, angel, she's a protected species. Hold up now. Yes. This is a very, very, very white woman that is saying this. Not only can. I don't. I don't care who you are referring to. A black woman, a black person, as any type of species is just, like, common sense of, like, no, pretty freaking racist. Shouldn't do that. But I think you're a white woman. This is a black woman. Like, it's just all of the. All of the surrounding things around it would have been a huge signal or red flag to anybody. I don't care where you come from, because I've seen some outlets saying that Brondello is from Australia and that in Australia, they use the term protective species in their sports environment to express, like, frustration over, like, a lack of cause against players and like, whatever. I don't care where you're from when you're here or even if you're there, even if an Angel Reese or whatever black person, black woman was playing Australia, you got it. There's certain things and certain lines you don't cross. So she says this. It gets picked up on the mic as she's yelling at the refs. And of course, it causes widespread conversation. It made it to Twitter and Angel Reese responded and added her and said. So there was a person that was watching the game that said, calling the black woman a species. Angel Reese said, are we surprised? And then tagged the coach with the clown face. So now you know what I'm saying. Since she wants to talk about protective species, this coach Rondello will miss the Tempo's neck. The Tempo's next game against the Las Vegas Aces. So the WNBA put out a statement, and they said, the WNBA expects all coaches and team personnel to uphold a higher standard of professionalism and respect that are fundamental to our league. And Then Brandello issued an apology early on Saturday, which, of course, she had to. I mean, she plays with all black women. That's another thing. It's like every time one of these instances happen, people love to argue. Like, what is, like, okay, she said this word because she's from, like, where she's from. It's okay because it's known as this. But, like, you're with a bunch of black women, you're playing, you're working in a wnba, from coaches to staff to the actual players. Like, you're hearing and seeing the things that they are experiencing and having a battle in real life. No matter where you're from, your life experience should have taught you enough by now at Brandello's big age, because she looks old at her big age, that you should have known that it's just not acceptable to even pair the two in conversation. What happened was she didn't think it would be picked up. She didn't think people would hear her. And we did. So she issued an apology. She said, angel, I'm sorry. Last night, in the emotion of the moment after Naira's injury, I used a phrase that I shouldn't have used, and I take full responsibility for that. My frustration was with the officiatings of the refs, but my words unfairly put focus on you. The head coach, Brondello, the white woman who is from Australia, who works for the Toronto Tempo, who call Angel Reese a protected species, continue to go on to say, I also understand that my words are carried. I also understand that my words carried an impact beyond what I intended, particularly for black women in our league. And I'm deeply sorry for that. I spent my career competing with, coaching and learning from incredible black women. That is what I'm saying, y'. All. Like, that's why I don't, like, I don't think that all non black people have hate in their hearts. And, like, you know, like, I don't think everybody is just always, like, out to, like, hate other people. However, I do think that we should never excuse things that are hate, like, literally are hate or can cause other hate, because regardless if you intend to do something or not, there is an effect on so many other people if you do make the decision to do that. And if we make the decision to just let it slide and be like, oh, that's not what she meant. And I think, I mean, I get it, shout out to the WNBA for suspending her for one game without pay for using a term, but I think that there should have been a Bit more because you're working in an environment full of black women and have been for so long. How do you not know that? The issue is, we heard it and we weren't supposed to, she says. The coach, she continues to say, I regret that my words caused harm and hurt to a community I respect so deeply. I don't know if I believe the respect so deeply, because if you respected black people and black women so deeply, you would really try to empathize with the conversations that we're having about the struggles that we face being looked at as less than human and being treated as if we are species, as if we don't hurt, as if we don't have pain, as if we don't need equal pay. Like, there's all these things that are, like, basic common knowledge about black people versus the others and especially black women, and you're with them on a daily. It's kind of scary to me, honestly. Like, let me look up how long she's been a coach. So in 2005, she was named an assistant coach of the San Antonio Silver Stars, and she was promoted to head coach in February 2010. So over a decade, clearly over a decade you've been working along with and learning from. And that's just minimal, right? Because she's. She's come up in the sport prior to that from black women. And you don't understand, like, I don't understand how you can say you respect us and all these years in, you don't understand why that is not something that should be said. Again, I think the issue is that we heard her. Imagine what she says when we don't hear. So she continues to say, I have a lot of respect for you as both a player and a person. And I sincerely apologize to you, your teammates and the dream organization for my comment. Yeah, I'm not mad at Angel Reese for shooting back at her on Twitter either. Not mad at that whatsoever. Completely out of line. I know she got the slap on her wrist from the wnba, but, like, now you have a deeper rooted issue because now you got the other girls that you playing with and that you working and the black women you're working with that are looking at you like, hold on, wait, what? So is that how you really feel? And she gonna run into Angel Reese again? You know what I'm saying? Like, this is not. I feel like no matter how much we kick and scream it to the top of the mountains, there's always going to be this, like, notion that, like, people can just do and say what they want when it comes to us, especially black women. Like, I hate that and I'm not the type to like, lean into, like, you know, a victim mentality or anything like that, but I do feel like sometimes there's like a lesser on the totem pole narrative that we're like, fighting against. Even though we know that it's the like, we know that we like, make make stuff go. Excuse my language. We know that we make stuff go. We know that we are the economy. We know that we are driving entrepreneurship. We know that we're driving so many different facets and elements and genres of like, life literally birthing like we are. We're literally carrying the black race on our backs. Like we are giving birth to the next civil rights activists, scientists, black doctors, black lawyers. Like, we're doing so much and then and still people can still like, casually slip up and make these mistakes and have a job after Back to School

But other black women listening to this, y' all gonna feel me. Y' all gonna know what I'm. Y' all know what I mean? It's literally that point of like, yeah, I hear you. But, like, I'm a black woman. It's a bit different for me, no matter how outspoken we are, you know, no matter how much support. And I love to see, like, when men, especially black men, support black women or, like, you know, stand in front of the bullet for us. You know what I'm saying? I love that because I think it shows that, like, we're protected. And I think that that's all that we ever want is to show and feel that. But. And that's why, like, I know, you know, people get on Shaq for some of the comments he's made about Angel Reese, but, like, he comes gunning about her often when people are dragging her and talking about her in ways that, you know, a lot of people feel like other sports analysts would not be talking about her if she were not a black woman. Or, you know, the positions that they pin her in in conversations and the narratives. Yeah, so there's that. That's uplift a bit. Speaking of black women, Wendy Williams, who would have been celebrating 18 years in television last week. So July 14, 2008, the Wendy Williams show kicked off, and she went for 13 seasons. Wendy Williams was outside celebrating her birthday. We have not seen Wendy in some time. You know, she's been a lot more low key since the beginning of all of this. But people are always constantly wondering how she's doing, how the conservatorship fight is going. I can't answer any questions for y' all about how the conservatorship fight is going because they don't really talk to media much about it directly anymore. Ever since Wendy kind of got, you know, scolding from that judge in the conservatorship. But to be honest, when they do talk to media, it's not like it like they pick and choose. Like, I know she did an article in the New Yorker recently and stuff like that, but she was out and about. She was headed out for a birthday dinner with her niece Alex. And I think it was Alex's boyfriend or husband that was with her as well too. Let's take a listen to Wendy.

Sounding healthy. I'll tell you guys, you know, if you haven't seen the photos, she looked really good as well too. Wendy looked really good. She looked together. She looked put together, had her makeup done. She was smiling. She was. You know how they try to have conversations about her cognitive, like, you know, ability to keep up with conversations and answer questions. Like, it was only one question that the photog threw at her, but she was sharp. Hey, this is where we going? We got a friend there. You know, it's my birthday. The pictures that her niece posted, she captioned it celebrating the queen Wendy Williams. And I saw Wendy Williams brother post, you know, some photos in celebration of her birthday as well too. So from the outside looking in, it looked like it looks like she's doing well. I know in that last article I did read about her from the New Yorker, it was like in a column that they did, she was saying how, you know, she goes to church every Sunday, but like, she's still very unhappy with her living. Living circumstances because she's still in, you know, that older lockdown facility where like, she can't even let herself out. Everything has to be approved and all of that. But she's looking good. And I think that that counts for something because we saw what. What it was like when she wasn't doing as well physically. Like we. You could physically literally see it on her. So, yeah, I. I try to look out for any Wendy update I can because at the end of the day, Wendy Williams is still Wendy Williams. And, you know, I think what we watched happen with her was pretty insane. Was really insane, man. It's like Wendy Williams is literally one of the greatest to ever do it. In the talk show shoot, even in a radio space as well, too. And watch her walk away from the Wendy Williams show without any ownership, without any other businesses surrounded by it. I have so many. I would love to sit down and have a very in depth interview with Wendy about that time period of her life. And why, like, why didn't you own any ip? Why didn't you start businesses? Like, why, like, was it, I don't know, maybe one day that'll happen. We'll put that out there speaking into existence. Because, you guys know, we were following everything within conservatorship really, really closely, down to the point where, you know, for the Breakfast Club, I actually went on assignment to the home where Wendy Williams was living just to see it myself. And it was very locked down. I couldn't even get upstairs. She was not able to come downstairs and speak to me. We had to talk on a phone while she looked out of the window. It was a whole thing. So, you know, putting it out there. That interview maybe will happen one day once she is, you know, a bit more freed up from her conservatorship. But we'll just have to wait and see. This has been another episode of the latest with Lauren the Rosa. I tell you guys, every single episode, y' all could be in anywhere with any old body talking about anything.
