Lauren LaRosa
Hey y' all, it's Lauren LaRosa. And this is the latest with Lauren LaRosa. Y' all know that this is the daily dig on all things pop culture, entertainment, news, trending news and every time we talk about different things in the latest, it's always the conversations that shake the room. But I like to take y' all with me. I think that that is a part of the journey when you talk about the latest and the way that I am able to bring news and bring conversations most of the time in majority of the time it's because I'm there literally expect experiencing it and then I'm meeting people and being able to develop sources and stuff like that from those experiences. Well, baby, let me tell you, the 2025 BET Awards were nothing different. I am currently in LA. I am headed to get on my flight to fly back on into the east coast and finally make it home. You know, if you're doing a little behind the scenes of the crying, check in. Back on the grinding. I am feeling very worked. Okay. They worked the heck out of me this weekend. Shout out to BET. Shout out to Proud 151 Breakfast Club. I was able to do a lot of coverage there for the BET Awards from the media room both Saturday and Sunday and then Monday with the actual awards, I did a pre show coverage situation which is where basically you just talk to people before the show and and then I was able to do a post show situation with BET where I was backstage talking to performers and hosts and writers of the show and producers and all these things as people came off the stage. Fun times, fun times. But if y' all can't hear it in my voice, baby girl is worked. I am tired. Okay, but with me right now as we get into the latest because BET in the BET Awards is everywhere. I have my hair stylist, myia my is by way of Philadelphia, but we got her out here in la. Say hi to the Low riders, Maia.
Mya
Hey, Low riders.
Lauren LaRosa
She's so nervous. She's so nervous. But we are literally in the car room, the black truck right now headed to the airport. But y' all know I had to make sure I got this episode in. But the reason why I had my ear on the podcast today is because we ended up getting extra tickets. Last minute, I was backstage doing the coverage. I told you guys, and then BET came to us and said, hey, I have two more tickets for you if you don't have people that want to come. So my manager and Mya were able to come, and they were actually able to sit in the award show. I was backstage all of the award show, so my experience was a lot different than hers, so I just wanted her to be able to chime in as well, too. A lot of the moments, I couldn't even hear when they were happening because I was either talking to somebody or we just. Our screens. The audio wasn't up during the. During the moment. Like, it was so different being backstage. I'm gonna be honest with you. I always tell people what award shows. I would rather watch it on television than see it in person. This year, though, for the BET Awards, I really wanted to see it in person because I'm like, yo, these moments are gonna feel so good if I feel so nostalgic. So, Miyeah, how was your experience like being in the audience?
Mya
It was honestly, like, surreal. I don't even have the words to put, like, to put it in, but to be in that room and to experience the awards, like, in person, it was crazy. This was probably one of the best award shows that BET has done. It was very, like, iconic. Jamie Foxx's speech was like. You could feel it in your heart. Like, it was very, very, very, like, emotional. It was touching. Yeah. Made me feel like, wow. You could feel everything that he was talking about. But just to even be in the actual room during the awards was, like, crazy. It was. It was just surreal. You could literally be sitting next to your favorite artist or, you know, your favorite actor. Like, it was. It was literally crazy. It was very, very, very humbling and exciting to just be there.
Lauren LaRosa
Well, I. So even backstage, like, I know when certain things were happening, like Jamie Foxx, like, me and the. The crew, the BET crew that I was working with, we all got chokey, like, teared up, and I was like, yo, Jamie Foxx already made me cry one time when I watched his Special, you know, where he talks about his recovery and his kids having to go through that with him. And then on stage, like, while you're there in person and, you know, these kids, their faces pop up on the screen backstage and they're crying, and one of his, you know, Darius couldn't even hold back her tears. She was trying, but she couldn't even hold back her tears. And then you got him on stage, and then like, literally, like, literally minutes before that, you have other talent backstage. Just talking about how iconic Jamie Foxx is. Matter of fact, I was interviewing T.I. that's how crazy that moment was for me. I was interviewing T.I. backstage just about him being a part of the 106 and park performance. And he had his daughter Eris with him, and I was talking to her, and as me and him are talking just about how iconic it is celebrating 25 years of the BET Awards and of 106 and park and, you know, all the things. Jamie Foxx pops up on the screen. Screen. And TI had actually mentioned him like, yo, I'm really looking forward to that. Everybody that I was talking to backstage and before the show was like, I'm looking forward to the Icon Awards. Jamie Foxx, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Kirk Franklin. Jamie Foxx pops up on the screen. And I'm like, oh, he's. He's on right now. We all just stopped just to listen. Like, we all literally just stopped just to listen to him. And it was just like, man, like, I can't imagine enter the entertainment industry. I don't know Jamie Foxx personally, but I can't imagine the entertainment industry without Jamie Foxx. Like, he is so talented. He is. So he just always been a part of our entertainment, right? And I'm feeling like that. And I'm looking at his kids and they breaking down crying because that's dad. And then I was able to talk to Pam and Gina, Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell, and I'm talking to them. This is after Jamie Foxx had already gone off the stage, and we were just talking about, like, legacy and the feeling of the awards that night, because it just felt like. It felt like a family reunion. It felt like a hug. It felt so full. It felt like excellence. But it felt like we were just really making sure we knew how important each other were that night. And they talked about that. Like, they were like, man, people know Jamie because of what he's done in entertainment, rightfully so. But to really know him and to know, you know, to really know him and to Know, everything that he went through watching his children, they said the same thing. Like, we were out there, like, tearing up. Like, it was, you know, like, that moment was crazy. I know on social media, a lot of people also felt like this year, awards, this, this, the, like, the awards this year was one of BET's best. Yes.
Mya
That's so good.
Lauren LaRosa
So taking y' all to the. To the streets, to the tweets. Real quick as we talk about the BET awards, you for the tweets. We outside, we outside. We outside, outside in the tweets. Every other page are gold. Operagirl22 said, Listen, I hope the younger ones understand Millennials. Our phase had talent, and she put talent in all caps. Our songs had hooks and bridges, and we had choreography. Do you see them right now tearing this stage up? And I mean, from the 106, like, the 106 and park tribute, B2K and Bow wow did such. Everybody did amazing. B2K, Bow Wow, Keisha Cole, everybody that hit the stage for the 106 apart tribute and the whole night in general. But I was watching Bow Wow and I was like, yo, he is such a superstar. Like, he is such a performer. And even his energy. He came back to hsbo, too. And I was able to speak to him after he got on stage for bet, and his energy was still high. It was like a kid in a candy store. He was just so happy, and he was so, like, he was showing me his. He had on overalls that was branded out Mr. 106 and 106 and Park. And I'm like, man, this time of entertainment, I miss that. I feel like we've gotten so into the, like, clickbait and the artists, you know, and there's no shade to the TikTok artists and the artists that don't jump around the stage and don't know the choreography. But it made me remember my first time going to a concert, which was the Scream tour, and being a real fan of people and of music and then the surreal moment to be them. Backstage with Bow Wow having this conversation and him talking about, you know, he told me that he didn't even. He doesn't choose, you know, all the song choices for that performance. These. He does give him, like, you know, here are songs we want to see you do. But he did know definitely, like, okay, there's certain songs I can't not do. I don't know. It was just surreal. I think a lot of people said. Saw that Wednesday Adams on Twitter is Wednesday ad underscore M's said Whoever they have on team of producers for this year's show did a great job. Please keep them. The dress code was classy. The agenda was followed, the sets were designed, the budget was in place, the sponsors checked in, and the guests came out. That was another thing I said. You talked about just being in the room and getting to see all those people, right?
Mya
Yeah, yeah.
Lauren LaRosa
So many people showed.
Mya
Literally walked past Lisa Rae, like, on my way in, I was like, oh, my God.
Lauren LaRosa
Like, everybody was there.
Mya
Everybody was there.
Lauren LaRosa
Everybody showed up. Like, insanely. Like, Mariah Carey looked amazing. I saw Tyler Perry backstage, and I was like. I was like, oh, shoot, it's Tyler Perry. Like, so many people showed up and showed out. And Tyler Perry had a great moment on stage where he talked about the erasure of black creativity and black storytelling and all those things. And it made me think just about the awards in the past. Like, when people have all of these, like, legendary source Awards stories and even the BET Awards stories, I'm like, we need to bring back the feeling of, like, people feel like it's my duty to show up. Because what he was saying was so true. But that feeling that I had yesterday at the Awarded backstage on a carpet, the excitement, excited to dress up and all that. I'm like, this right here is like. This is like the reset the entertainers need. You deal with so much, right? Like, there's the news and the media and everything's public. You're dealing with family and friends. Like, just all that stuff. Sometimes you just need to show up, look good and have a good time. And people did that yesterday. And a really great time, I'd add. Like, we had Taraji P. Hinton on stage with Teyana Taylor delivering monologue. Kevin Hart as the host. I don't care what nobody say, Kevin Hart was funny as hell last night.
Mya
Yeah, he was.
Lauren LaRosa
He was funny as hell last night, and the audience was reacting to it. Well, I don't know if it looked like that on television to you guys, Low Riders, but in person, the people were laughing. Like, the people was laughing at the jokes. Like.
Mya
And he bought Drew Ski and Kaiser.
Lauren LaRosa
Yep.
Mya
That was good, too.
Lauren LaRosa
I think that was fire. That was definitely fire. I actually, I. I saw Drewski backstage, but I met Drew Ski when he came to the Breakfast Club. But I actually wanted to meet cna. Like, I am just. I'm so proud of him. Like, he's my, like, little brother or something.
Mya
Yeah, he was definitely good.
Lauren LaRosa
So Fire. The Raven Report says, say what you want about Shy Moss, but Bow Wow is A legend. I said what I said. Yes. Stamped 100%.
Mya
Jamie Foxx actually said something that was super powerful. He said, like, sometimes, like we. We idolize like the Oscars and we make that like the biggest award show, but this is really the biggest award show because it's us and it's from our people.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes.
Mya
Like, I thought that was very special for him to say, because that's true. Like, it hit different. It comes from your people, you know, so different.
Lauren LaRosa
Yesterday felt so fire, but it was so black. It was crazy. Like, and I was on that. That pre carpet. We was outside for a good like three hours and I was super tired when I got inside. But then once the award started and like, you felt the energy and the energy of the artist helped me cause I was tired. But the artist has so much energy. All weekend we went to the. The 106 and Park Day party. So Terrence, Jay and Roxy had a day party. Shout out to. Shout out to big bro and big sis. We got there, we had a good time. They made sure we was taken care of. We had some drinks. We had. We had a time. Yeah. But they were celebrating just, you know, the institution of 106 and park and all the things that they have done. It just felt good. All week.
Mya
It was really like you a family reunion, like you said. We was with our cousins and our aunties and our uncles.
Lauren LaRosa
100%. 100%. Oh, my God. So make sure you guys go and check out all of my content I'll be posting online. I do want to have some of the BET content for you guys, but I don't know if I'll be able to post it here because they do own that content, but I know it will be on social media. So make sure you follow me everywhere at Lauren, the Rosa all weekend long. You know, people that listen to the podcast, people that don't. Everybody was like, all right, but when you going back to court, though, sis? Like, we need.
Mya
And they were giving you your flowers. Heavy. I have to say that, like, everybody that you ran into, like, gave you your flowers, like, heavily. Everybody was telling you how proud of you they was. And that would have just like, yeah, that is decent too.
Lauren LaRosa
That was a good feeling as well, ain't It'd be crazy too, because some of the people it comes from, I'd be like, oh, my God. Like, the fact that you even know who I am is like insane to me because again, I'm still. I'm just such a fan of all of this stuff still. But I am When I, you know, we're headed back into court this week, guys. So we will be bringing you guys those updates here today in court. Literally, as we are speaking right now, Jane Doe is, is wrapping her testimony. You know, they do the cross examine of direct of number one, Jane Doe revealed that, you know, Diddy, she's literally still working with the lawyer that Diddy got her. When the the government first approached her about the indictment, she mentioned that Diddy, you know, even up as paying her rent up until very recently. And people want to know, how is all this possible when she's on the stand testifying as the government's witness? Like, how is that possible? She also talks about being with Diddy the day that the. The Cassie beating video dropped. And she talked about how his team was like, scrambling to come up with, like a plan of him apologizing and all of these things. She also alleges that, you know, they got into, you know, altercations themselves in a ton of different things. I want to really take the time to get into it, but as y' all can see, BET has taken over my life. I'm about to get on this plane and it is a wrap for the BET Awards 2025. Okay, so make sure you guys tune into our upcoming episodes because those things I just mentioned I will be getting into in more detail, actually, to be starting tomorrow. And then I'll let you guys know as the week goes on what's actually happening in real time. But I do want to come back and have a conversation about those things because we haven't been able to get into it. I want to make some phone calls and just figure out legally how and why all of this is possible myself, because y' all know I'm not an attorney. I'm just in the court watching what's going on and coming back and telling you guys. So I appreciate you guys for tuning in. As always, at the end of the day, there is always a lot to talk about, but every single time, low riders, y' all are right here with me to talk about it. I appreciate you guys. I will see you guys in my next episode. This is an iHeart podcast.
