So one hour to change someone's life or less. Or less.
Karissa Sherwood
Tell me more minutes. I mean, I'm just telling the person the truth about them. People identify so much with their external form, they identify so much with their personality or if they're dominantly angry or bitter or not successful, they identify with that. And that is not really the truth of every person.
Narrator
Carissa Sherwood is an intuitive healer, published author and spiritual bridge builder who brings body, mind and soul back into alignment through experiential events, written work, in personal sessions. She invites others to access a higher consciousness, honor unseen truth and awaken to their fullest potential.
Karissa Sherwood
Today when I walked in, I felt very connected to the little girl in me. She cannot believe that we are here and that we are doing this and that I wrote a book. She is mind blown. And so if I can do that, if I can transform all of that into all of this wisdom and higher knowing than anybody can.
Host
If we start with yourself, how do you optimize your energy?
Karissa Sherwood
I definitely feel like you have to look at your.
Host
It spans the globe like a super high cold Internet Elvis renfry.
Steve Jobs
Today, Apple is going to reinvent the phone. It's not over until I win the living your legacy podcast for those who live to leave a legacy that's extraordinary. The impossible. Oh, that is sensational. Jordan, open Chicago with the lead. You said Paul is the fastest man on the planet. You can live your dream.
Host
Welcome to another episode of Legacy Makers tv. Today we're going to talk about how your life can literally change in one hour. I know that's a bold statement. Krista's here with me and she promises me it's true. She's actually doing it live with clients as we speak every day, helping people. And I'm really fascinated to dive into what she's up to because it sounds very impactful. Welcome to the show.
Karissa Sherwood
Thank you. Thank you so much for having me.
Host
So one hour to change someone's life or less. Or less.
Karissa Sherwood
Tell me more minutes. I mean, I'm just telling the person the truth about them. So sitting with every single person, I tell them what's really there. Like the bigger picture, seeing beyond what is presently in front of them. People identify so much with their external form. They identify so much with their personality or if they're dominantly angry or bitter or not successful, they identify with that. And that is not really the truth of every person. So that's the most beautiful part about the work I do. It's like doing this and like really seeing directly into somebody's soul and then sharing that truth with them.
Host
And what's the. You know, so are you just. So everyone listening can understand this? Are you. Are you sat with them? Are they wearing something? Like, talk to us about how it all works.
Karissa Sherwood
Well, it's just energy. I'm connecting to energy. I'm connecting to your own energy. It was you. And then I'm connecting to the greater consciousness all around you. I'm connecting to your divine team, your spirit team. And it can be done anywhere in the world. It can be in person or anywhere in the world, because energy is accessible anywhere.
Host
Okay. And you've been in this space. Space for about a decade, right. And really focused on this the last couple of years. Why does someone hire you? And then what happens after they do?
Karissa Sherwood
So when someone is really wanting some clarity, some peace, some guidance, direction, this helps clear all of that up so quickly.
Host
Okay. So that maybe the person's a little lost, not sure on what's next.
Karissa Sherwood
Yes, yes. Also, mediumship is connecting with loved ones that have passed. And so when they have not been able to have a final conversation or missing a family member so deeply, we want to know that there's something else after this.
Host
So it helps with the closure side.
Karissa Sherwood
Definitely, definitely. And to know that they're still known and loved and divinely supported and speaking truth to them and memories and experiences that only they and the person would know, it's like, mind blowing to them. Because how would I know those things? I don't know this person at all.
Host
Who's the average person hiring you? And then what happens after they do it?
Karissa Sherwood
Can be anyone. Anyone. I get all different people for. For readings, which is really lovely. Men, women, anyone?
Host
Okay.
Karissa Sherwood
Yeah.
Host
And they. They come. You know, they do it over Zoom.
Karissa Sherwood
Or they come in both in person or Zoom.
Host
Okay. And then within one hour, how do they leave that Zoom call or meeting?
Karissa Sherwood
They are so much more settled into their body. They have peace, they have this reassurance, they have this trust, like they're something in their energy changes, shifts, and they just feel more grounded, like everything's going to be okay.
Host
So I got to ask, you know, I think most people in life get into business or whatever they do because they are interested in it or fascinated by it or enjoy it. You know, I was into fitness my whole life. Parents were pro athletes. I became a personal trainer at 18. How did you get into this? What's the backstory?
Karissa Sherwood
This is a wonderful story, actually. I started first with yoga. I was trained in yoga, became a certified yoga instructor, and then I got into sound healing. I don't know if you're familiar with that. Yep. So I started doing that, and then I started doing Reiki, got certified in that. And so that's learning how to move energy. So all of those different things were tuning me more finely to the world of energy. And the energy is honestly something that I have been reading my entire life. When I was a young girl, I experienced sexual trauma. And the thing that happens after that, first of all, it disconnects you from your body, so it disconnects you from your power. And, like, what does that even mean, really? You can't trust yourself.
Host
Sure.
Karissa Sherwood
But because of that, I was reading every person, every room, scanning every situation to see, are you safe? Are you not safe? Can I be safe here? But really, what I'm saying is I'm not safe here. I'm not safe in my own body. So nothing felt safe. So as I worked on my own wounds over the years and healed a lot of that and got to peace, more of that came in peace. So many more things started opening up for me. And a couple years ago, I was at my home, and I rounded the corner to go to my room, and there was a girl standing there that had just passed away. And I never met this girl. I had never met her. She had passed three weeks prior of cancer, and she was a friend of my sons.
Host
Got it. Wow.
Karissa Sherwood
And so I round the corner to go to my room, and I did what you would do if anybody was standing there that you didn't expect. You know, like, what are you doing here? And I had never seen her. I've never seen a picture, never met her, but I knew that it was her. And so as soon as I said that, like, what are you doing here? I could hear my son and his friend in the other room laughing. And I had thought, oh, you're here because I know your friend. You want me to share messages with your family? And I got a download of these really beautiful messages for her family. She wanted them to know that she was okay. She wanted them to know that she was at peace. She wanted them to know that it wasn't their fault that she got cancer and there wasn't anything that they could have done to change it. And so I held a belief prior to this that maybe this kind of thing wasn't possible. So it was nowhere on my radar. I wasn't even looking for this kind of thing. I wasn't even paying attention at all. Like, when I look back over the course of my life, this gift has always been there, but I couldn't see it, I couldn't recognize it. I could see and feel my own people, but I couldn't connect to anybody else's people.
Host
Well, so there's a few things I want to dive into. You know, this is obviously very unique, right? And then, but also the energy side first. Right. The broader energy side. Like how do you quantify that? Like, you know, and I've been in the entrepreneurial world for a long time, personal development world. And I see some people are very in tune with the energy and believe it and it leads a lot of their decisions in life. And then some people think it's woo woo. They don't believe it, they don't understand it. So how do you, you know, how do you explain this to someone?
Karissa Sherwood
Well, everything is energy. Oh, this is a wonderful example. Okay, so let's say anger, sadness, bitterness, joy. Not tangible things. Right. But we can both agree that they are real in some way. Like what are they? It's energy. Anger is energy, sadness is energy, bitterness is energy, Joy is energy. So energy is a very real thing that we can't see. Not tangible necessarily, but it can transform, it can change shape. We can alchemize it.
Host
So how do you use energy? How do you manipulate or change energy for a better life or better results or more happiness or better health?
Karissa Sherwood
Well, I'm going to direct the question to you, okay. Because I'm sure that you've done that in your own life and the big things that you are doing. So how did you do that?
Host
Well, I'm a pretty big believer in, in the energy. And I didn't used to be. And then over many, you know, I was a scientist. So generally scientists like to measure stuff, you know, and you can measure cortisone, energy and stuff. But over time I, you know, the more I interacted with people and grew a team and focus on my surroundings, it became much more apparent to me. You know, I'm asking you because I've kind of moved across a spectrum of a belief system and how it's changed on a hierarchy of needs for me. But yeah, I mean, obviously we, as in under, as entrepreneurs, we're often very focused on optimizing our environment. And some people call that energy or focus on that as energy. So big focus for me is to, yeah, emotionally. Right. Optimize it. Right. Personally. But then also the energy outside of me and my surroundings.
Karissa Sherwood
Yeah, yeah. And so I would say I did that first. I optimized my personal energy, transforming all of my wounds into something that would serve me better. And I think every single person has the ability to do that. They just don't quite know that they do.
Host
A lot of the best, most successful people in the world don't get there if they haven't done that. I don't think. And you have clear examples of the few that somehow have, like pro athletes that still get banned from sport because of anger or get sent off in a game. They're not really at their true potential because they haven't fully optimized their emotional state in turn.
Karissa Sherwood
Yes, I agree.
Host
And you know, the way I describe energy is maybe a little bit. I see it like the easy way to understand it. It's like oxygen or gas in the air, Right. Like bad energy can be like poisonous gas. And then good energy from other people and environments can be like perfume. It makes feel great and smell great, right?
Karissa Sherwood
Yes. And energy like a dent, there's a denser energy. And so that's a heavier. And that's more like the bitterness, the jealousy, the anger, resentment. And then there's a lighter energy that we can even recognize in other people. Like, oh, this person's really light and area. Well, that's joy, that's happiness, that's contentment, that's peace.
Host
So how do you optimize? If we start with yourself, how do you optimize your energy?
Karissa Sherwood
I definitely feel like you have to look at your pain points first. Like the wisdom is in the wound.
Host
And is this what you're doing during the sessions?
Karissa Sherwood
Or if there is something there that a person needs to look at, it will come up. So when I sit with someone, one of the things that I say, the loudest thing for you comes through first. Like whatever you need to know most from the God, energy comes through first. So there's even an order to that thing. So a lot of times there's so much healing that can happen, and that does happen even in just one session. But a lot of times a person's guided to do whatever the next best thing for them is. Is it to go meet with someone? Is it to get some kind of support? Is it to reconcile? Is it to go take action on that big dream that you have? So it varies.
Host
Yeah. And I'm kind of interested too. What is next? Right. Someone has a session with you? I'm sure some obviously have many sessions. But like, if you want to learn sales, you can take courses, go to seminars, read books. How does someone work on this?
Karissa Sherwood
Definitely you can read books. You can get a mentor for sure. I would Choose a mentor that you resonate with. And for me personally, like, just because somebody is in this space doesn't necessarily mean that they are the best fit for me or that we are both in alignment.
Host
So there's more. There's, like, I guess, most compatibility.
Karissa Sherwood
Definitely. Yeah.
Host
And where. What's a famous book that people, if they're listening, could go out and study? And what about your books?
Karissa Sherwood
So there's one book that I really love is the Evidential Medium that's very specific, and it does give a lot of, like, examples on. On maybe what. How your gift comes in, because everyone's kind of comes in a different way. So I think that's a good place to start.
Host
Okay, and what about your own?
Karissa Sherwood
My book is called Mothering Marley Wounds to Wisdom. And it's primarily about my special daughter Marley, and me coming to terms with being a special needs parent.
Host
Okay, well, let's talk about that some more. You know, you're. You know, we talked a little about what you do in the business side and. And. And energy and these things, but why are you here? How did you get here? What. What is this? You know, what has this process led to?
Karissa Sherwood
I hadn't done any of my own personal healing work before I had Marley. I didn't start till I was probably. She was 10 years old, and I had two kids before that. And so she didn't have a diagnosis when she was born. She was developmentally delayed, and I just needed her to fit in. I needed her to be like everybody else, and everything was harder for her.
Host
Why? Just because.
Karissa Sherwood
For my own. Yes, because it was just strumming. It was like, hitting all my edges. Like, no, you need to do this on time, and you need to fit in, and you need to belong. And in hindsight, in retrospect, looking back, all these things that I was wanting for her, like, I was really wanting for myself. I needed to fit in. I needed to belong.
Host
Because of the perception.
Karissa Sherwood
Yes. Yes. I wasn't secure in me. So then this was strumming a deeper insecurity. So all these years I spent trying to fix her, taking to her all the therapies and the doctors and doing every herbal tincture ever to try to fix her. And really, I just needed to fix myself. And once I.
Host
And then embrace.
Karissa Sherwood
Yes, yes. And once I did that, my lens on the whole thing started to change. And it shifted from this victimhood mentality that. This happening to me, too. This is happening for me.
Host
Yeah.
Karissa Sherwood
Yeah, for me. And she is the greatest gift of my whole life. And I can't believe there was ever a version of me that almost wished her away.
Host
Wow.
Karissa Sherwood
Because she's so special.
Host
And there's a lot more about this in the book, I imagine.
Karissa Sherwood
I say the whole thing. The whole thing. And I talk about these really dark, quiet corners of the heart that most people don't speak about. Like, you don't hear mothers talking about being angry or being jealous or being resentful or bitter or. And I talk about all of that.
Host
Well, and imagine some of that's going to come come up in your episode as well. Some of the stories, things. Right? What, what, what else will people, you know, they're watching this maybe before the episode's live or they haven't seen your episode yet. Of legacy makers. What are some of the things they're going to learn or hear from you?
Karissa Sherwood
That you have the ability to completely transform your life and make it whatever you want it to be. But it starts with you. And today, when I walked in, I felt very connected to the little girl in me. That little girl that was wounded and hurt and scared and not feeling safe to be in the world. And she is so proud of me. She cannot believe that we are here and that we are doing this and that I wrote a book. She is mind blown. And so if I can do that, if I can transform all of that into all of this wisdom and higher knowing, then anybody can.
Host
When it's just, you know, from what I'm hearing, it's just the start of your journey, too. You know, you've been doing, obviously a decade working one on one. You've got the book now, but really, you know, I think the progression for a lot of experts and people in our shoes, because I started this way, is the one on one's great. You hone your skills, you see the results, and then you question, how do I do one to millions, right? And change.
Karissa Sherwood
Yeah.
Host
More. And that's where books and TV and.
Karissa Sherwood
That is kind of where I'm at. Like, how can I help more. More people with this? And I'm also being shown, like, or asking, like, what else is possible with this gift? I have a friend who has a son that is autistic, not speaking. And one day she said to me, karissa, tap in. He's not sleeping at night. I don't know what he needs. He didn't have, like, a spell to communicate yet, so he really can't communicate. Tap in and see what he needs. And I said, I don't even know if I can do that. And she's like, just try, just try. And so I did, and he showed me he was laying in his bed and he was like kicking his legs in this really jerky motion. And I said, it's almost like he has spiders on his legs, but there's no, no bugs in his bed. And I said, okay, now I see him and he's grabbing my hand and he's walking me over to the pantry. Is there something in the pantry that can help settle his legs? And she said, oh, man, I totally forgot that restless legs runs in my family. And it seems to come out a lot at night. If you're super stressed out, he's walking you to the pantry. Because I keep bananas in the pantry and potassium helps quiet the restless legs. You can't make that up.
Host
Funny.
Karissa Sherwood
Can't make that up. So that's opening this whole new door. Like, what else is? I would love to channel more for non speaking kids.
Host
Yeah, that's great.
Karissa Sherwood
So I think this is just tip of the iceberg on exploring this for me.
Host
Good. Love that. Well, last couple of questions around legacy. What does legacy mean to you? What is the legacy you want to leave?
Karissa Sherwood
The legacy I want to leave. So I think because I'm a mother, I'm going to speak to mothers.
Host
Yeah.
Karissa Sherwood
The greatest gift that we can leave our children, our legacy as a mother that knows who the hell she is.
Host
Yeah. Well, and it sounds like you have a great gift at helping, especially mothers with, you know, a child that's maybe got a disability or they're struggling to parent that child for whatever reason.
Karissa Sherwood
Yes, yes. But a woman that is connected to her power and purpose, that takes action on the things that she feels she's divinely called to do. Unstoppable. Unstoppable. And when she fulfills those things, she's showing her children what's possible.
Host
Yeah, yeah. It's role model, right?
Karissa Sherwood
Exactly. We are modeling for the kids.
Host
Good. I think you hear a lot. At least I do. Around the father and being in shape, for example. Right. And I think this is just another great example on the female side.
Karissa Sherwood
Around that totally side.
Host
Yeah.
Karissa Sherwood
Yes.
Host
For people listening, they're fascinated by some of the things you say. And maybe they want to book a session and figure all this out, try it out. Maybe they want to hear more about the story and the book or listen to you more on social media and podcasts. Where do they find you?
Karissa Sherwood
Yes. If they head to my website.
Host
Yeah.
Karissa Sherwood
It's www.themostingmedium.com. and my schedule is up and they can book that way via Zoom, no problem. And the book, the book is on Amazon. It's called Mothering Marley Wounds to Wisdom.
Host
And any social media where they can find social media.
Karissa Sherwood
Instagram, the mothering medium, and I offer courses from time to time that are in Zoom and in person. Learning more about spirituality, learning more about healing and motherhood.
Host
Cool.
Karissa Sherwood
So there's a lot of options.
Host
I'm very excited to see the episode come to life and, and see the story and learn more about the story and yeah, excited to see how you can, you know, really take this and impact more people with it too, around the world.
Karissa Sherwood
Thank you.
Host
Super awesome, guys. I hope you enjoyed that and really got that perspective around energy and, and parenting and a bunch more stuff right. That we covered in that episode and much more to come in the full TV show too. So as always, keep working hard, keep building a legacy, and I'll see you guys soon.

Defining Energy: Karissa elaborates on how emotions like anger, sadness, bitterness, and joy are manifestations of energy. “Anger is energy, sadness is energy, bitterness is energy, joy is energy,” she states at [08:26], emphasizing that while energy isn't tangible, its effects are undeniably real and transformative.
Manipulating Energy for Well-being: When asked how to optimize energy for a better life, Karissa responds that it begins with “looking at your pain points first. The wisdom is in the wound” ([11:23]). She believes that addressing and transforming personal wounds can significantly enhance one's energy and overall well-being.
Karissa shares a deeply personal narrative that underscores her expertise and passion for healing.
Early Struggles: She opens up about experiencing sexual trauma in her youth, which led to a profound disconnection from her body and self-trust. “I was reading every person, every room, scanning every situation to see, are you safe?” ([05:18]) highlights her early struggles with safety and self-connection.
The Pivotal Encounter: A transformative moment occurred when Karissa encountered a girl who had just passed away from cancer, despite never having met her. “I could hear my son and his friend in the other room laughing. And I... knew that it was her” ([06:52]). This encounter solidified her belief in her healing abilities and marked the beginning of her journey as an intuitive healer.
Karissa provides an in-depth look into her healing sessions, offering listeners a clear understanding of what to expect.
Connection to Energy: She explains that her work involves connecting to a person's “own energy” and the “greater consciousness” surrounding them ([03:03]). This connection can be facilitated both in person and remotely, allowing her to assist individuals worldwide.

Karissa discusses her ongoing journey to expand her healing capabilities beyond traditional mediums.
New Frontiers: Inspired by a friend's autistic, non-verbal child, Karissa began exploring ways to communicate and assist non-speaking individuals. “He is grabbing my hand and he's walking me over to the pantry...” ([17:36]) illustrates her ability to receive and interpret messages to address specific needs, showcasing the potential to aid a broader range of individuals.
Future Aspirations: This experience has opened a “whole new door” ([17:43]), prompting Karissa to explore and develop further techniques to support those who cannot communicate verbally.
Karissa has authored works that encapsulate her experiences and insights, providing valuable resources for those seeking healing and understanding.
"Mothering Marley: Wounds to Wisdom": This book details her journey as a mother to a special needs child, intertwining her personal healing process with her professional growth. “It's primarily about my special daughter Marley, and me coming to terms with being a special needs parent” ([13:08]).
"The Evidential Medium": Recommended by Karissa as an excellent starting point, this book offers numerous examples of how one's gifts manifest uniquely. “It does give a lot of examples on... how your gift comes in” ([12:51]).
A significant portion of the discussion revolves around the concept of legacy and personal empowerment.
Defining Legacy: For Karissa, legacy is deeply intertwined with motherhood and personal authenticity. “The greatest gift that we can leave our children, our legacy as a mother that knows who the hell she is” ([17:56]) encapsulates her vision of leaving a meaningful and authentic legacy.
Empowering Others: She emphasizes the importance of self-transformation as the foundation for creating one's legacy. “If I can transform all of that into all of this wisdom and higher knowing, then anybody can” ([15:34]). Karissa advocates for individuals to embrace their power and purpose, thereby inspiring and modeling resilience and possibility for the next generation.
Looking ahead, Karissa is focused on reaching a wider audience and enhancing her healing practices.
Expanding Reach: Transitioning from one-on-one sessions to broader platforms like books, TV, and online courses, Karissa aims to impact millions. “How can I help more. More people with this?” ([16:32]).
