Kevin Sauer
So when we were in Arkansas, before we left, I asked God, God, I Want yout to use Me. And when we moved to Iowa, one of the things I had to realize was you go through a period of isolation. It was just me. I had a thousand acres of park to wander. Wow. And go talk with God and go, okay, here's something you've created.
Ray Gutierrez
Yes, sir.
Kevin Sauer
He said, I want you to reach men. Men are hurting right now.
Ray Gutierrez
Oh, yeah.
Kevin Sauer
Yeah. Kevin Sauer is a dedicated community focused, sustainability driven and the Executive Director of Love youe Neighbor Farm. Through his work, he cultivates equitable food systems by empowering local communities with access to fresh produce and agricultural education, fostering resilience, food security, and a deeper connection between people and the land.
Ray Gutierrez
Where did the divine download begin?
Kevin Sauer
When you're ready to surrender and understand, you don't control any of it.
Ray Gutierrez
There's a whole dichotomy of men out there and women and everything in between. It's just that are just like, I did the thing, I did it now you know xyz and it's just like, whoops. What is the real meaning of life? What is the value of life?
Kevin Sauer
Kind of one of the things that's come to me lately is
Ray Gutierrez
it spans
Kevin Sauer
the globe like a super high cold Internet.
Ray Gutierrez
Elvis Preston. I agree.
Kevin Sauer
Today Apple is going to reinvent.
Ray Gutierrez
It's not over until I win. The Living youg Legacy podcast. For those who live to leave a legacy that's extraordinary. The impossible. Oh, that is sensational. Jordan Open Chicago. With the lead Usain Paul is the fastest man on the planet. You can live your dream. Welcome back to an episode of the Living youg Legacy podcast for Inside Success. I am Ray Gutierrez. We are on the verge of filming our next episode of Operation super CEO. Joining me today is Kevin Sour.
Kevin Sauer
Sour.
Ray Gutierrez
Yeah. Just making sure now that you said it, it's in my brain. Kevin Sauer, you are the founder or executive director of Love your Neighbor Farm.
Kevin Sauer
That's correct.
Ray Gutierrez
I cheated a little. And I read ahead in the show notes, and this isn't quite the farm that folks think about what. What happens in said farm, sir.
Kevin Sauer
So primarily our crop is chestnuts.
Ray Gutierrez
Okay.
Kevin Sauer
And what we're developing right now is we bought a farm this April and it was row crop. So that's corn and beans and they rotate those crops every year. So what we wanted to do really is restore the land. And that goes along with our theme of Love your neighbor farm, which is not just restoring the land, but also restoring the people for sure. So creating that Quiet place, creating that nature for people to come and experience. You don't always get that in church. There's a lot of church hurt out there.
Ray Gutierrez
Yes, sir.
Kevin Sauer
So this isn't church. This is something that God created for us. So there you go.
Ray Gutierrez
Yeah. Every morning I look outside my door, I'm like, God, it's so noisy here. It's just concrete everywhere. I'm like, this is where I grew up. And I'm like, we spoke about Miami. How much has it evolved? And you're asking me, well, how much of that evolution do you love of Miami? I go, well, not much of it. It's. It's. It's. We've lost a lot of the green. A lot of the frequency has changed here. I lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for a minute, and I really enjoyed seeing all that green. And this is in between me living in the bay in the Obama years and then living now here in the Grandpa Trump years. In between that transition, there was that. That sense of neighbor, of that sense of like, my neighbor's 30 miles down the road, but, boy, we still know each other. We're in this. There's cattle, there's air, there's farm. There's dirt underneath my nails, and I'm living life, and I feel different. Is that what's happening in your farm, sir?
Kevin Sauer
I believe so. Everybody that's come out there, they experience peace. It's a quiet place. The town where we. We founded our first farm is in Mechanicsville, Iowa. So it's a town of roughly 5,000 people. The only anchor we have is a convenience store, gas station.
Ray Gutierrez
Awesome.
Kevin Sauer
That's it.
Ray Gutierrez
That's awesome.
Kevin Sauer
We want to be that light. We want to be that beacon.
Ray Gutierrez
Yes, sir.
Kevin Sauer
So folks can come out there and experience some peace, experience some quiet. We might put some cell phone jammers
Ray Gutierrez
up so you can just notebooks and pencils. Not even pens, not even mechanical pens. I mean, just pencils, man. Keep it. Like, the reason why I get so pumped about. About such experiences is because we talked about this other than the. In the Bay Area and a lot of my mentors, a lot of the executive directors, and I'm talking about, like, the big dogs, like, you know, co founder of this, Facebook that, Twitter that, or X this. And they all would have these retreats and they would just disappear, and no one would talk about what would happen there, but everyone would come back inspired, illuminated, and they'd have like, two or three quarters of fresh ideas. And that's where the tribal code was born. And I found that a lot through the tribes of the Les Browns, the Tony Robinsons. That doesn't take someone with that charisma to run these tribes anymore. It takes folks with the land, with the heart, with the frequency to understand what they're doing beyond just what's physically happening in here. Is that, Is that correct to.
Kevin Sauer
I believe so. I met my. My wife, and my current wife I previously divorced, I met her in Arkansas, and that was the first time in 30 years I really set roots down. So you get really strong roots here in Miami and you know what it looks like, you know what it feels like. So we set all those rote roots, we started a family. I volunteered in the community, and I learned how to serve others and to approach their hearts first instead of worrying about what's in my heart. Right. I know the hurts and hang ups that I carry. I don't need to push that on somebody else. So when we were in Arkansas, before we left, I asked God, God, I want you to use me. And when we moved to Iowa, one of the things I had to realize was you go through a period of isolation when you ask to be used. You get tested. Right. You experience the loneliness. When you were in Oklahoma, you had to develop, you know, new NETWORKS. So my 2am friends, those guys that I can call and go, hey, man, this is what's going on? They were gone.
Ray Gutierrez
Wow.
Kevin Sauer
It was just me. I said, okay, God. I had a chance to get quiet. So our current home backs up to a state park.
Ray Gutierrez
Wow.
Kevin Sauer
And the beautiful part of that is, during COVID I had a thousand acres of park to wander.
Ray Gutierrez
Wow.
Kevin Sauer
And go talk with God and go, okay, here's something you've created.
Ray Gutierrez
Yes, sir.
Kevin Sauer
And he said, I want you to reach men. Men are hurting right now.
Ray Gutierrez
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Kevin Sauer
We're desperate. We feel beat down. So create a space where they can come, they can learn.
Ray Gutierrez
Yes, sir.
Kevin Sauer
They can find out about the outdoors. They might not have known. You know, I learned in the boy Scouts. I learned a love of nature. When we moved to Australia, I did, you know, my primary school years there. So that's carried throughout my life. And until I was able to act and purchase this land, all I could think about was chestnut trees.
Ray Gutierrez
Wow.
Kevin Sauer
It was atrocious.
Ray Gutierrez
That's crazy. Where did, where did the. The divine download begin? Is this something that you found or did it find you? Was it during your desperate hour or how did this, how did this, how did this begin?
Kevin Sauer
Surrender. When you're ready to surrender and understand, you don't control any of it.
Ray Gutierrez
That's awesome.
Kevin Sauer
And. And then you ask God, what's my purpose? And you actively pursue that. And you know, story in the Bible tells of when you want to hear God's voice. It's not in the loud thunder.
Ray Gutierrez
No sir.
Kevin Sauer
It's not in the heavy winds, is it? It's in a quiet whisper. So I had to get quiet.
Ray Gutierrez
It's funny, it's like being 42, no children, like back in the 80s, it's like, dude, that's awesome. Trust me, look around you. Things are awesome. But it's just like, yeah, what's my legacy? What's next for doing this for another 40 years? Really? So it gets tough because, like, it's not just me. There's a whole dichotomy of men in their 40s and 50s that are just like, cool. I'm a tech engineer, I've got six figures. I did the hustle, look at me go. And I'm still fucking miserable because I have no children. I've got a real estate, I do this, I do that. But I've got no North Star. And folks are just lost and they're just like, There's a whole dichotomy of men out there and women and everything in between. It's just that are just like, I did the thing, I did it. Now I got no family, I've got nothing because you know, xyz and it's just like, whoops. What is the real meaning of life? What is the value of life? Is it the this, this, this equipment, this number that's sitting on some app on your phone or just looking down and seeing life stare right back at you and go, wow, this is eternal life.
Kevin Sauer
Yeah.
Ray Gutierrez
So it's just like, dang, dude. So do I go to said farm and, and, and just, and just restart? Because I was saved at nine. But I feel like a good, I need a good cleanse, I need a good recycle. There's a lot of gunk.
Kevin Sauer
Yeah.
Ray Gutierrez
So do, do men come to you? Do folks flock to you with their gunk and do they feel less gunky after a while?
Kevin Sauer
Yeah, yeah, I think they do. I think people open up to me pretty well, for sure. And it's in the approach, right. You've got to approach their heart because without that you don't understand where they've been at. One of the things that's come to me lately is I've got, I work a full time job as well as we're building this out. So what I've noticed is we've got a lot of hurt people where I work. And when you talk to them, you have to understand you've got to look through their glasses. You can't look through your own glasses unless you look through the lens of Jesus Christ. Because he approached everybody with love. Right. When he was asked, what's the two greatest commandments, do you know what those two were?
Ray Gutierrez
No, sir.
Kevin Sauer
It's love God and love people.
Ray Gutierrez
Pretty simple, huh?
Kevin Sauer
So restore the land. We love God. We love what he created for us. We want to honor that love. People just understand their hurt when they walk up to you. Everybody is hurt with something. So when you take the opportunity to listen to that, then God has an opportunity to come into that God sized hole in your heart. You can't fill it with electronics. You can't fill it with money. You can, but it doesn't fill that space. So until I learned to go, okay, God, you got it all. And that turning point for me, we had gone through some extremely hard trials. And during that period of time, I met a gentleman that does men's ministry. To me, it was a divine appointment. This is a divine.
Ray Gutierrez
And yeah, men's ministry is something I'm doing research on. I think it's fascinating how men are just on YouTube, sitting in the rooms by themselves or standing and speaking to no one. But they're speaking to a ministry in their head. Because people are watching.
Kevin Sauer
Yeah. And it's not that they're just watching. They're seeking.
Ray Gutierrez
Yes. They're seeking. Correct.
Kevin Sauer
So as they're seeking.
Ray Gutierrez
Yes, sir.
Kevin Sauer
You've got to be able to go out and work those fields.
Ray Gutierrez
Yeah, dude.
Kevin Sauer
Because the workers are few and the work is great.
Ray Gutierrez
Yeah, man.
Kevin Sauer
So, man, I. I live in the land of field of dreams. Wow. Iowa, right?
Ray Gutierrez
Yeah, dude. You build it.
Kevin Sauer
They will come.
Ray Gutierrez
Yes, sir.
Kevin Sauer
This, this past year, when we physically got that farm, I planted 20 acres of COVID crop. I put in 5 acres of chestnut trees. I put in another acre of wow. Of fruit trees. I cut all the trails around this property, which can be seen in the, in the drone footage. We put five acres of sunflowers in to find out what kind of animals can we attract.
Ray Gutierrez
Sure.
Kevin Sauer
Right. So dove, I've got quail. There's pheasant that fly out there.
Ray Gutierrez
Wow.
Kevin Sauer
I was just walking with two partners. One of the guys flying back to. To Kenya. So from Kenya to Iowa and the honor of having a fellow brother come and go. This is what's being built. We love this. Yeah. To bring it closer to home, I've got a next door neighbor. When we first moved in. Of course, everybody's curious. It's a piece of property.
Ray Gutierrez
Sure, sure.
Kevin Sauer
They're concerned about development. I don't want 100 houses where, you know, this used to be a field.
Ray Gutierrez
Yeah, we don't want Miami. No.
Kevin Sauer
So he came over and just in a couple of minutes, he'd been church hurt. Wow. Right? We've all been church hurt.
Ray Gutierrez
Oh, yeah.
Kevin Sauer
That's where all those broken people hang out. And when you go in there looking and seeking and you attach that to people, you're not attaching it to the right thing. There's God, Right. And at the end of the day, your father loves you. He wants the best for you. He's got a divine plan. You can ask what it is. And man, when those blessings starts flowing, you get gobsmacked. You're like, yep, God, how am I worthy of all this stuff, sir? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ray Gutierrez
Absolutely. How does one hold on to that energy? I've, I've. There's deep, there's, there's peaks and valleys. There's lessons to be learned. It always can't just be. Things are great. There's a moment where the roller coaster has got to come down so you can just ascend even higher. How does one brace for impact? And I'm speaking from experience where I, I, I, I went through Cancel Culture, my 15, 20 year career of, of grit, doing the hustle, all that gone in just moments. Because this person that I thought was this ended up being a lesson in my life. But I recognized as a Christian what was truly happening. You know, I sat and prayed and thanked God. I'm like, thank you, Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, for destroying this ego that I created on the Internet to thrive and survive. It is clear as day now. I no longer need him. That was seven years ago. I have yet to post anything since that day. Do you know that? And I work for a social media marketing company. It blows my mind. I'm like, yeah, I'm the podcast host, but you don't never see me posting on social media unless there is an intention. There's a reason, and I'm not doing it for the likes and this and the engagement and the algorithms. No, sir, I will. I would have. I hung out with those kids back in the Facebook days in the late 2000s, where, like, everybody was like, nerds. Nording. Like, look at, look at how much we can stare at the phone and something's happening. We can sell that, monetize that, that algorithm. And now it's the year 2020. 6. And we are just oozing and aching for just that. That is priceless. There is not a single device that can give you that. It's just in the heart.
Kevin Sauer
Yeah.
Ray Gutierrez
And you found some land where you can just conjugate this frequency of energy and bring everyone in this fellowship and then have your ministry, your fellowship. I wish I had this energy. When I go to a church, a brick and mortar that's going there because I can walk in there and oh, here we go. We can hear the hymns. We can hear that guitar hitting that right note just to get the people to spend. Because now he's going to give me some phony baloney's sermon that he's gonna smack his hands and he do some theatrical thing, and then the music's gonna hit him, and then the audience is gonna go, oh, I'm gonna spend money. Oh. Under the name of Jesus Christ. Oh, my God. The devil works in mysterious ways.
Kevin Sauer
I think the devil's ways are always the same.
Ray Gutierrez
Yes, sir.
Kevin Sauer
They haven't changed because they're effective very much, sir. I can distract you with lust.
Ray Gutierrez
Yep.
Kevin Sauer
I can distract you with ego. Right. Ego made the devil fall and also
Ray Gutierrez
made him rise up and down. Up.
Kevin Sauer
Well, he was defeated by an angel. He struggled. Right. So he. He's not as omnipotent as we feel he is. And when you realize that peace I'm seeking is not the noise and stuff.
Ray Gutierrez
Correct.
Kevin Sauer
We had a house fire. Our daughter would have been first grade, second grade. And what she learned through that was it's all just stuff. The front of our house was pulled off. It was, you know, $150,000 remodel to redo the entire front. Everything was gutted. She lost all of her toys. We. We wandered into church reeking of smoke, with smiles on our faces because my girls were fine, our animals were fine. And the other thing I got was my guns and guitars. I got the three GS out of the house.
Ray Gutierrez
I love it.
Kevin Sauer
The guns, girls, guns and guitars.
Ray Gutierrez
I love it. That's gon a shirt. That must be a shirt, sir. So what is your common client? Who is the person that signs up and. And. And is. Is it. Are they looking? You said they were seeking. Looking for answers. You know, are they on the discovery and give us, like, the full circle? Are folks that are healed coming back and mentoring? How does this community, your tribe, work?
Kevin Sauer
Yeah, it's every man. Truly is. It's every man. And you might come there. You have an experience, you might not.
Ray Gutierrez
Sure.
Kevin Sauer
So we've got Managed hunts. We bird hunting out there. So turkey and dove, we're building up our pheasant. And in order to do that, we've got to, you know, increase their food, increase their habitat.
Ray Gutierrez
Sure.
Kevin Sauer
That's typically the guys that they want to go out, they want some action. You start calling them turkeys in, everybody gets excited. And we've also got work days where we're planting trees. Those are folks that want to experience the earth and feel that they're giving something back.
Ray Gutierrez
Right on.
Kevin Sauer
So you get a full gamut of everybody coming out there, and then these guys are able to bring their families out. Walking trails surrounding the entire thing. You're just surrounded with nature.
Ray Gutierrez
What are we going to learn about you in your Operation CEO episode? Why do you think you were chosen, Cassidy, for this opportunity?
Kevin Sauer
Ooh, I think it's time. So I think the opportunity was presented. What I've seen, as we've planned over these past five years is as I've prayed to God and said, okay, God, you've asked for me to be obedient and do these things. I see people and opportunities being placed in front of me. And the story I relate that back to is Jesus turned the water into wine. Yeah.
Ray Gutierrez
Are you quizzing me?
Kevin Sauer
Yeah. Don't do that. So in order to do that, they had to gather the wine, they had to gather the water first before the miracle could be pursued.
Ray Gutierrez
Sure.
Kevin Sauer
So there's not just something physically, there's also just as the water converted, there's a conversion in our hearts.
Ray Gutierrez
Yes, sir.
Kevin Sauer
And when you get to that point, you just step out in faith.
Ray Gutierrez
Yeah. Step out in faith. I always like to say lead. Lead with faith, lead with fire.
Kevin Sauer
Yeah.
Ray Gutierrez
How can folks learn more about you, your mission, and get in contact with you and even be part of your tribe?
Kevin Sauer
So our website, Lynn farm, which stands for love your neighbor, we abbreviated it. I kind of like it. Yeah. So LynnFarm.org and then our Facebook is the most up to date. You can sign up on calendar of events for. There's different retreats that we have, the hunting that's coming up for the next year. I do speaking events for sure, man. So one thing I do is make homemade bacon.
Ray Gutierrez
Okay.
Kevin Sauer
Who doesn't like bacon?
Ray Gutierrez
That's awesome.
Kevin Sauer
And I correlate that to our walk with Christ. So you get a slab of meat, it's about, you know, 10 pound belly slab.
Ray Gutierrez
Okay.
Kevin Sauer
And then you got to season it right for a period of time. Well, that's just like our life experiences as we're walking along wow. And then there comes a point you get put into the fire. The smoke, the heat, it draws out everything that could cause contamination. Right. Your trials. Nice, man. And when you're done, you slice it off and it's actually something edible that somebody can consume. When you're able to share your story and show them, hey, this is what this was like. Wow.
Ray Gutierrez
That's crazy, dude. I can just imagine you doing that show on the road and hotel suites. I'm bad joke. Kevin Sauer, thank you so much. From love thy neighbor.
Kevin Sauer
Love your neighbor.
Ray Gutierrez
Love your neighbor farm. Yep, man. Thank you so much for a great chat.
Kevin Sauer
Absolutely.
Ray Gutierrez
This is just a warm up. We're about to walk down this spooky Miami hallway in this building and film his Operation C episode. Thank you so much for that. This is Kevin Sauer and I am Ray Less Sour Gutierrez. And we are inside Success.
