The Majority Report with Sam Cedar. And I get the feeling you've been cheated. This is a special news event. The Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Virginia and Washington state.
Unidentified Commentator
Duh.
Sam Cedar
Primaries 2026 election 2026 coverage live on the majority report. Tuesday, August 4th.
Emma Vigeland
We were supposed to start 2015 just 22 minutes late. That's fine.
Unidentified Commentator
That's within the confines of ish.
Sam Cedar
Where's our twitch stream?
Emma Vigeland
Oh, we're working on it.
Sam Cedar
Soon to be broadcast on Twitch.
Emma Vigeland
Poggers, Poggers, Poggers.
Sam Cedar
And Rumble.
Emma Vigeland
Rumble's over there.
Sam Cedar
We're done with Rumble Kick. All right. We will be. Yes, it is. Somewhere in the world. It is 6, 15. Ish. Sam Cedar, Emma Viglin.
Emma Vigeland
Actually, factually, that's not true.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, that's not how time zones work.
Sam Cedar
Do we not prorate it?
Emma Vigeland
I don't think so.
Sam Cedar
Somewhere in. Somewhere. As you move west, it is. It is usually the east. 6:15.
Unidentified Commentator
I think the minutes pretty much stay the same.
Sam Cedar
Regardless, I think we're here. And don't say Missouri in St. Louis. All right, Missouri, Missouri. Sam Cedar, Emma Vigland. It is primary night. It's a big one.
Emma Vigeland
It is a big one.
Sam Cedar
It is a big one. In Michigan, Abdullah Sayad, the $60 million
Emma Vigeland
in outside spending in that race, the fact that they're trying to make an example out of him, AIPAC in particular, but also other moneyed interests, means that there's a lot on the line here for, you know, future investors in the genocide lobby. Are they going to get what they want out of this amount of spending?
Sam Cedar
Yeah, I think for. I think for the establishment Democrats and for aipac and all the money that sort of gets bundled behind AIPAC as a front, essentially, for a whole host of regressive ideas. This is a proof of concept, but in reverse, in many respects, they're going to have to go back to the drawing board if somewhere between 30 and 60 million dollars of outside spending does not influence the outcome of an election. Abdul Al Said is a particularly good candidate. He had name recognition from running six years ago.
Emma Vigeland
Bernie endorsed him from the outset as soon as he announced, and he announced early, which we're also seeing with Mehlak Kiros. How that's borne Fruit announcing early. Zorra Mandani also announced right after first
Unidentified Commentator
one in the race.
Emma Vigeland
Trump won in 2024, pretty much.
Sam Cedar
Not to belabor this point, but I suspect that Bernie Sanders, after 2016, he understood that at one point, and it probably wasn't Until March of 2016, he announced in June or July of 2015, maybe, maybe May, he understood that he got into the race too late, because he did. For all the talk of how the DNC was against him, the fact is, had he started that campaign six, eight, 10 months, maybe more earlier, I think there's a very good chance he could have won. And he ran at that time as a, as a protest candidate, I mean, really as a message candidate. It was to get money out of politics. And I don't think it was until really until February or January of 2016 that he thought he could win.
Emma Vigeland
Yep.
Sam Cedar
But by then it was too late. And I suspect that somewhere along the conversations in the analysis of that race, people understood if you're going to run an insurgent campaign against these forces, you gotta start early. And they did. And then, of course, the other big difference is that now the National Left has a leader, an ubermensch, if you will, Our comrade, our comrade in the
Emma Vigeland
dark shadows, Chairman Haas, if you will,
Sam Cedar
pulling all the strings, dressing up in all sorts of crazy outfits.
Emma Vigeland
So confusing.
Unidentified Commentator
The China suit.
Sam Cedar
China suit. Sometimes a Union army suit, I think. I don't know, wearing tunics and. Chore jackets.
Unidentified Commentator
Mainly about his fashion.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, right. Making a lot of alpha men very confused about their choices to affirm their own masculinity.
Sam Cedar
And the real problem is, of course, now for the left is that he's been uncovered by Will Kane with the John Carpenter music. Incidentally, we did not add this music. Live from Texas, this is the Will Kane Show.
Nathan Robinson
Democrats have a new kingmaker.
Unidentified Commentator
He's the visionary of the left. He's the visionary of Democratic Socialists. And it's his party, Piker's Party, and that party has an invite list. And he has a vision not just as who should be elected to office, but as to the future of the Democratic Socialist of America. When asked a very interesting question about what he would add to the platform, here's what he said about the future of the dsa. Arrest and prosecute and bring about corruption charges. For every prominent member of this administration
Sam Cedar
that is engaged in corruption.
Unidentified Commentator
Prosecute and arrest ICE agents that have
Sam Cedar
also done crimes as well on the job.
Unidentified Commentator
Bring out the secret police.
This is a fan made video.
Emma Vigeland
This is clearly the Hasanabi Productions edit. But Kudos.
Sam Cedar
Did they do this?
Unidentified Commentator
Yes. You can tell.
Okay.
Sam Cedar
This is not how he started the show.
Unidentified Commentator
That's not Will Kane's producers.
Emma Vigeland
No, but that was Hasan, like, a few days ago.
Unidentified Commentator
If somebody did fraud, they should face legal consequences. What a radical.
Sam Cedar
I mean, secret police. And this idiot.
Unidentified Commentator
It's.
Sam Cedar
He's doing it in secret, but he announced it on the microphone.
Emma Vigeland
I mean, the honorable thing to do would be to charge Olympians for cutting up the reflecting pool.
Sam Cedar
That's the one.
Emma Vigeland
That's what the federal government should be focused on.
Sam Cedar
Jeanine Pirro totally let that one go. She blew it big time. So mad, she choked.
Unidentified Commentator
Mad.
Sam Cedar
That's what she said. Choked like a dog. She choked. Do we have that? Do we have him saying that? Okay, we'll find that. But there it is, folks. And I mean, we're gonna have on the program tonight Sam Robinson. We're gonna have him in just a moment. He's an independent Michigan reporter. He's been on the ground interviewing folks from Michigan. Maybe you've seen his videos. And then Nathan Robinson, who has also written extensively about Michigan. Abdul Al Said used to write for Current affairs, or had, I should say, you know, was published in Current Affairs.
Emma Vigeland
This episode's called Meet the Robinsons.
Sam Cedar
Exactly. And then we're going to be bringing back Smokey Robinson, who is going to actually be doing our big board. Yes. Just nobody knows who he is.
Emma Vigeland
I know who Smokey Robinson is.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Okay. Don't worry.
Sam Cedar
Yeah.
Bernie Moreno
All right.
Unidentified Commentator
I'm sorry.
Emma Vigeland
That's not Grandma.
Sam Cedar
Okay, I appreciate that. After yesterday, I'm feeling a little sensitive with my son in here calling me old over again.
Unidentified Commentator
He did Emma. Worse.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah. I'm considering major plastic surgery now.
Unidentified Commentator
He got definite on Emma.
Sam Cedar
Yeah. I spent about an hour with Saul sitting down and explaining some things to him about what he should and should not be saying to other people besides me. We'll be talking to Sam Robinson in just a moment. But the. One of the things that we're going to talk, I mean, in regards to Hasan Piker, this will come up. I think there has been far too little written about Mallory McMurrogh's failure because she was sent in there as the sort of the last great white hope in this race to sort of rescue the establishment from Haley Stevens, who is suboptimal as a candidate, aside from her issue set. And what's fascinating is I think Mallory McMurrow was at a point where she could have. It could be her and Abdul El said right now. But it became clear that her donors Won the day.
Emma Vigeland
Yes. And she couldn't make any inroads with black voters either. That was a huge problem for her.
Sam Cedar
And that is going to be ultimately, I think the lesson from this is that Haley Stevens, in and of herself, wasn't defeated if said wins tonight, that whole juggernaut. And that the establishment has now a structural problem because they cannot fund a campaign and appeal to, at the very least, Democratic primary voters simultaneously. I used to talk about the Bachmann rule I had for Michele Bachmann when it was about the Tea Party, when she gave the first response, Tea Party response to the president's State of the Union. And they had set up a camera for the Tea Party closed circuit and for CNN to cover it too, because of course they're going to cover the Tea Party thing just like they would if the DSA was the right. Of course not. And she addressed the Tea Party camera, but everybody else was looking on this camera and she gave an entire speech like this and it made her look crazy. And in some respects, the establishment of the Democratic Party has a similar dilemma. They cannot speak to their donors and to the Democratic primary voter simultaneously and seem coherent.
Emma Vigeland
Yep.
Sam Cedar
But we'll get more into that, I'm sure, as the program progresses. Tonight's sponsor of the program, Rocket Money. One of the great things about Rocket Money, I mean it helps you with, help you with setting budgets and goals and it gives you insights on how you're spending money and reports and you can get real time alerts for large transactions, help you with protecting your ID and people you know, trying to steal or set up credit cards in your names, helps you with upcoming bills and low balances or if you get refunds on your credit card. But the thing that's also really fun from my perspective, and I don't have this problem anymore because Rocket Money took care of it is it gets rid of subscriptions that you're not even aware you're paying. And you unplug your, your credit card information, it finds them for you and you can save hundreds of dollars. God, I mean, there was some services I was paying for that I couldn't. I didn't even know what it was. I had signed up for it one time, I don't know, maybe on Ambien, I have no idea. And got hundreds and hundreds of dollars. And I just think, like, what if I was investing that or buying, you know, Erytheum or whatever it was without money or Ethereum or whatever the Bitcoin is. But you could, like I said, you can set your budgets your goals Rocket Money is a personal finance app that helps you find and cancel unwanted subscriptions. It monitors your spending and helps you lower your bills so you can grow your savings. Let Rocket Money help you reach your financial goals faster. Join@RocketMoney.com Majority that's RocketMoney.com Majority RocketMoney.com Majority we'll put the info in the podcast and YouTube descriptions. Also sponsoring the program tonight is Blueland, one of my all time favorite products. I use it in the office, I use it in my home. I use it to wash my dishes. I do it, I use it to for my laundry, I use it for my everything spray. What do you call the all purpose spray? I use it for my window spray. I use it for my bathroom spray. I use it for my bathroom toilet. I drop in the toilet palms. I even got the little felt ballsy putting a dryer. But nevertheless you don't have to choose between a laundry detergent that actually works on tough stains and one that is made with thoughtfully chosen ingredients. The beauty of Blueland is it doesn't use any of the chemicals that are dangerous to your kids, your pets, to you probably. And it is all about eliminating one time plastic use and even like sort of micro plastics. Blue Lamb makes dish laundry and other household cleaning products. They're designed, like I say, to reduce single use plastic. Their cleaning tablets are 100% plastic free and microplastic free. So those those packets that you put into your dishwasher that are covered in plastic, that plastic goes somewhere it doesn't vanish. Blueland has none of that. They're independently tested to perform alongside leading brands. They're formulated without dyes, without parabens or harsh chemicals. And the beauty is instead of buying these huge plastic containers of laundry detergent or dishwashing detergent or spray bottles or whatnot, you just use tablets so it makes it easy to cut down on waste. It saves a ton of space in your apartment. Blueland's trusted in over 1 million homes including mine and my office and they now have a dual layer laundry detergent tablet which I have not tried. But I use their oxiclean powder with the tablets in the past and I have a feeling they've combined it. It's designed for tougher laundry loads that need extra stain and odor fighting power. It's great for your workout clothes or your kids stuff. It's pre measured. They're mess free tablets. You just drop it directly into the drum and wash usual. They also have their everyday laundry dirt and tablets which I love. They are made with plant and mineral based cleaning ingredients. Again, plastic free, microplastic free. If you're in Blue Land is a certified B corp in a Leaping Bunny Cruelty free certified. Their formulas are EPA Safer Choice certified. Many products have also earned a Cradle to Cradles Gold Material Health Certificate. Good stuff. If you're looking to make a small change in your routine, you can get 15% off your first order@blueland.com majority. That's 15% off your first order@blueland.com majority. We'll put the link in the podcast and YouTube descriptions. Quick break. We come back with Sam Robinson.
John from San Antonio
Sam, It's.
Sam Cedar
We are back. Sam Seder, Emma Vigeland on the Majority Report. It's a pleasure to welcome to the program independent journalist Sam Robinson live from Detroit's Majestic Theater. As you're awaiting a the Abdul Al said election party, I imagine you're going to do some coverage there, hopefully. Well, what is the mood there, Sam?
Sam Robinson
The mood is high. People are excited. The energy has been felt for the last few months on the ground. Those TV ads for Haley Stevens were really motivating voters where I live on the Detroit's east side to go out. They said, hey, Obama's with her, I'm voting for her. You haven't really felt that in every part of the state though. And so of course, we have urban communities across our state, Flint, Saginaw, Kalanzu, Lansing, Jackson, Ypsilanti, including the city of Detroit. But I will tell you guys that if Haley does not win Wayne county, if she does not win Oakland County, Macomb, I don't know that she has a pathway to win this election.
Sam Cedar
I'm not sure everybody's familiar with the controversy around those ads. Just walk us through those. And what was the theory that Haley Stevens was working on here?
Sam Robinson
Yeah, so those ads are part of a $60 million ad blitz for Haley Stevens from outside groups. Haley, of course, was endorsed by President Obama in 2018 and 20 during general election matchups against Republicans. She has not been endorsed by Barack Obama for her race against Abdul Al Said. And so a lot of the Abdul Al Said supporters, Abdul himself will say, completely misleading. You're trying to dupe black voters. Haley Stevens and her supporters will say it's fair game. I mean, this is what Obama had to say about me and my time as his chief of staff during the auto bailout, the auto industry rescue, which of course for working class Detroiters is top of mind. A lot of folks that I live next to have been working for the big three Auto companies for decades.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
What.
Sam Cedar
What has been the. I mean, I don't know if people remember this, but in the wake of the financial crisis, the US Government basically bought a stake in gm. I think it was only Ford that rejected any type of bailout. What has been the knockout? Like, how do people perceive that 10, 15 years later? Because in many respects, I mean, we saw, obviously, UAW was striking just a couple of years ago.
Sam Robinson
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
Because in many respects, the GM never sort of asked of its workers, hey, you guys, you got to chill out for a while. Take less, turn the clock back, and we'll get you when we recover. And it really didn't go down quite as smoothly as that, I guess. What, what are people's perspective on that bailout in Haley Stevens role in it?
Sam Robinson
Well, I think it's important to point out that this is almost 20 years ago. Detail part of her campaign. When I talk to people under 30, you know, a lot of people don't even know what the auto bailout was, frankly. I mean, people in Detroit that are directly, you know, by family member, relative, parent, grandparent, you know, tied to what happened in the 2008 financial crisis. Detroit got hit really hard. You know, neighborhood businesses, diners, no longer exist. Right. You know, we had our neighborhoods kind of hollowed out. And so younger people have no connection. And they roll their eyes and say, haley, why are you talking about things that happened 20 years ago? And of course, you know, the older folks, who are they voting for Haley Stevens because she was Obama's auto czar during the bailout? No, they're voting for her because she shares their values and they're afraid of progressive leftists, which, you know, in Michigan, you know, they're operating now in Detroit, the DSA groups, Working Families Party. You know, black women are firmly, at least in our community in Detroit, black women are firmly on the side of the big D Democrats. You know, I think Detroit's black political establishment has had an interesting time wrapping their heads around Donovan McKinney. He's a state rep running against Sri Tanadar, an incumbent sort of moderate figure himself. It's funny. Sri used to be a DSA member. They kicked him out over his support.
Emma Vigeland
He's a weird guy.
Sam Robinson
He's a weird guy, and so he's funny. A lot of people like him. Black women love sri. I mean, that is something that, you know, when he ran for governor in 18, he got more votes in the city of Detroit than Abdul Al Sayed did. So that's another race that we're thinking about Michigan's 13th congressional district. We've been without black representation in Congress. A lot of the moderate pro Israel establishment figures will point to Sri Tanadar and Rashida Tlaib. Rashida is going to be fine in her race, not competitive there. That she does have two challengers talking about uncommitted, talking about how she cares more about what's happening in the west bank than on the west side of Detroit. That's also a criticism that we've heard against Abdul El Sayed. Now, it's not a monolith. I mean, I am hearing from older black residents who are like, Abdul is speaking to me. Abdul more resonates with my values. So I do think the generational divide will be seen. How wide that is is a real good question. I think with Zoran's election, you saw that dynamic play out as well.
Emma Vigeland
Well, they could also come back for the general election in the way that some older black voters in New York City did versus Andrew Cuomo, where once it's a Democrat versus an independent or a Republican, in that instance, the dynamic changes a little bit. But what about the UAW endorsement for Abdullah Sayed? Does that play into this? Because I know you mentioned the McKinney race. There's also the Will Lawrence race, which is really important. But I'm wondering how much the UAW has sway here.
Sam Robinson
Well, when talking about black women showing up for Abdul, when I go to some of his more recent rallies and events, some of the few black women that have been there are the UAW for Abdul supporters. The UAW backed Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield's opponent last year. He was a pastor. He got obliterated in our municipal election. Mary Sheffield, the first woman black woman mayor of Detroit, won by 77%. So, you know, is the UAW stamp of approval going to be what makes the difference here? I don't think so. It does add really needed credentials to his endorsement list. You know, the nurses union AFT as well. He's been pointing at. I'm talking about. He's got some interesting local endorsements from figures from our neighborhoods, like Mary Sheffield's father. Horace Sheffield is a local pastor and a UAW sort of legacy leader himself, as well as Warren Evans. He is the Wayne county executive. Of course, Abdullah Sayed was the Wayne County Health director under Warren Evans. And so there's some familiarity there. But yeah, the story that you're hearing nationally, you know, it is pretty, pretty fair to say. That's what I'm saying. Seeing on the ground where older black voters are more With Haley. The white voters that are voting for Haley are wealthier. And, you know, a lot of them are in Oakland County. And so she has to run up the score in Oakland county or she has no shot.
Sam Cedar
We talk about the endorsements. How much, how active have the unions been on an infrastructure level? Like, in terms of it's one thing to get endorsements. I don't know if they're trying to keep their powder dry for the general or like, how much mobilization have we seen from these unions that have come with their endorsements?
Sam Robinson
They've appeared at the last few events. They've appeared at the Fox 2 station, the studio outside the studio before the Fox 2 debate A few weeks ago. But they have not been as active as perhaps the Democratic Socialists of America influencers and the likes that have flown in from California and New York elsewhere in the last few days. I mean, the DSA folks here in Michigan, the metro Detroit DSA chapter, they did not endorse El Sayed, who calls himself a capitalist, however, for the very first time. Right. And I've never seen this. You know, I've been covering the local DSA group here, the Working Families Party here. I've never seen them so gung ho about supporting a guy who calls himself a capitalist and refuses to engage with their group. And so, you know, certainly there is mobilization happening on the side of the unions, but it has not been as ferocious as the DSA kids. The young folks are coming out, the poll workers, when I went to the polls earlier today, they're telling me that they've never seen this many young people in August.
Bernie Moreno
Wow.
Sam Cedar
All right, so this is a little bit reductive, but, like, what are the fault lines here? Like, what are the big fault lines? Is it Haley Stevens is just an awkward candidate? Is it, Is it Gaza as a. And our support for Israel, is that sort of like carrying the day? What are the major fault lines that you think this is going to turn on?
Sam Robinson
Yeah, the two biggest things that I've heard and certainly Since February of 2024, Michigan started, they launched the uncommitted movement here. The war in Gaza has completely changed Democratic politics, at least in Michigan. I can't speak for the rest of the country, but, you know, older white voters who you would have thought would be big blue, big D Democrats, rather are talking about, you know, I feel completely uncomfortable with my tax money going to the death of innocents and children. And so Medicare for all is also very popular. Our local legislators, our lawmakers and the state legislature, legislature here have their own Medicare for All bill statewide. And so that's also something that I hear from Abdul Al Sayed voters. You know, there is something that I don't think I've ever shared this before, but just, you know, off the record conversations, just sort of talking to people. In real life, there is a level of moderate Democrats that would vote for Haley Stevens, but they just have some personal connection to her or they don't like X or Y. They think she's weird or cringy. And I am hearing that more than I would have thought I would. A lot of people kind of like her awkward sensibilities. They feel like it's relatable. They feel like she's goofy, funny. She reminds them of, you know, their family member themselves. Really. And I will say, you know, in defense of her accent, we do kind of, you know, extend our A's. And you know, Michiganders do kind of have that nasally Wisconsin.
Emma Vigeland
She's been leaning into it. I think it's. She's been leaning into it to distract from the APAC stuff, which makes her seem monstrous. This makes her seem folksy.
Sam Cedar
I mean, I can attest, having spent a significant amount of time at my former in laws in Michigan, it's a legit accent. It is.
Sam Robinson
She's from Detroit, Birmingham. You know, it's 40 minutes outside of Detroit. But you know, where I grew up, Saginaw, Midland, Bay City. Yeah, people definitely sound like that. You can go to Lansing, Michigan and hear a server at a restaurant.
Sam Cedar
My experience was it was a lot of wet bars in people's basements in Michigan. But that's for a different time. Lastly, let me ask you this. How much did. I guess it was four years ago, Michigan ended up being a trifecta in terms of the Democrats having the executive and both houses of the legislature. And it did not like relative to, let's say, Minnesota, there was not the amount of legislation or the type of legislation that one would have anticipated. Right. I mean, I think that's fair to say. And how much does that play in what's going on here? Like, how much when we get to the general, how much of like, where's. What is the. To the extent that there was dissent or unhappiness with what the Democrats did in control of Michigan, how is that playing out?
Sam Robinson
Well, I can say that the thing that unites the establishment wing in Michigan, especially in Detroit, when you're talking about black politics, what unites Donovan McKinney in a figure like Michigan Democratic Party Black Caucus chair Keith Williams, He's Been a vocal Haley Stevens supporter and loves to argue with younger people on Facebook every day. What unites those folks are the perception that the Whitmer led democratic trifecta from 22 to 24 did not do enough for black voters that flipped those seats and got them the trifecta to begin with. They had held a press conference in the final days of the legislative trifecta saying we need to do more for black voters. There was some notable items that got passed. Protections for gay and transgender residents, free K through 12 lunch, pension, tax relief. But, you know, big other items like a plan to make water more affordable across the state, like police accountability measures were put to the wayside.
Sam Cedar
Interesting. Well, Sam Robinson, really appreciate your coming on. We're going to put links to your Instagram, all your socials. Is there anywhere else can people find your work?
Sam Robinson
Yeah, I am on Instagram. Funny you say that. I am just samdrinkswater on Instagram. On Twitter, you can find me amueljrob samrobinson. My work is published in Michigan's oldest black newspaper as well, the Michigan Chronicle. My substack is called Detroit1 million.
Sam Cedar
Well, really appreciate the work you've been doing and thanks for talking to us and I hope you. I hope it's a fun night there.
Sam Robinson
Yeah, sure will be. I've already had a 20 minute conversation with Olivia Rheingold, so.
Emma Vigeland
Oh, my God, you buried me.
Sam Cedar
Wait a second. Hold on.
John from San Antonio
Hold.
Emma Vigeland
We can't let you go yet.
Sam Cedar
We gotta go a little long. What did she have to say? Is she terrified? What is this security? Does she have security?
Sam Robinson
A bulletproof vest here and not at Haley's? Because I think a lot of people expect Abdul to win tonight.
Sam Cedar
Does she have one of those helmets on the vest that say press on it?
Sam Robinson
Yes, the press badge. I actually asked her if I could take a picture of her of her press badge because the New York City press identification badges are just so iconic to me as a Midwest journalist. We have nothing like that. Anybody can be the press. You just show up and ask, yell a question.
Sam Cedar
There you go.
Emma Vigeland
Well, wherever Hassan is, she goes. I guess she's got that air tag on lock.
Sam Robinson
Yes, I imagine Hassan, you know, well, I'll see him again. I've been seeing him all over the city of Detroit this past week. I know he was in Wisconsin too. And so, yeah, there's so much energy, guys. People that I have never seen care about politics are flexing their I voted stickers on my Instagram, scrolling through my Instagram stories. So, yeah, A lot of energy around Abdul's campaign.
Sam Cedar
That's great. Sam Robinson, thanks so much for your time. I really appreciate it.
Sam Robinson
Yeah, thank you, guys.
Emma Vigeland
Thank you.
Sam Cedar
All right, folks, we're going to take a quick break and when we come back, we'll be speaking to Nathan Robinson because it's a theme night. We'll be right back after this.
John from San Antonio
Sam, It. Sam,
Sam Cedar
We are back. Sam Cedar, Emma Vigland on the majority part. I want to welcome to the program Nathan Robinson. He, of course, is the publisher of Current Affairs. Nathan, I am sorry that we are cropping your, your set because it is so awesome. I love it. But thanks for joining us. You were on the ground.
Emma Vigeland
It's Lynchian.
Nathan Robinson
I gotta see the lamp, the Tiffany lamp.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
You were on the ground in Michigan. How did you, did you go around to other states or did you pick Michigan because you thought it was particularly unique?
Nathan Robinson
No, I don't do much reporting, but I had gone out to Michigan for New York magazine in 2018 because a friend of mine who lives there told me we have this incredible candidate for governor. You've gotta hear him. He's like, you know, he's got like Obama's charisma with Bernie's politics. And so I went out do this report on him and I was just kind of blown away. I thought, oh, this guy. This guy's something different. This is very interesting. So I did that report in 2018. And then after that, Abdul actually wrote for Current Affairs a couple of times and did some YouTube videos for us. I did a bunch of interviews with him. So I followed him for a long time. And then I just went out to report for the Nation magazine. Wrote a long thing for the Nation early in July about what this race could mean.
Emma Vigeland
Well, what does it mean in your estimation? Yeah, what could it mean?
Nathan Robinson
Well, I mean, people are really catching on, I'm going to tell you now. So I'm not sure that I'm saying anything that is not already being said across the media because people are starting to notice, oh, this what's happening in Michigan's Senate primary right now is huge implications for the future of Democratic politics.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Because.
Nathan Robinson
And there's a lot of reasons for that. One of them is that it's kind of AIPAC's last stand. They have funneled tens of millions of doll into this race to prop up Haley Stevens and blanketed the state with attack ads. And it doesn't seem to have worked. Which means that if El Sayed wins, AIPAC might become pretty toxic in Democratic politics overnight because People are going to realize that their money is actually a liability and not an asset. And of course, it's just this big showdown for the progressive versus center establishment fight within the Democratic Party. And if Abdul wins the general election, it's going to be a test of the theory that the Bernie people have been pushing since 2016, which is that progressive politics are actually an asset and not a liability in states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, et cetera.
Emma Vigeland
Well, that's what they're afraid of more than anything. It's why they want to kill him in the crib, as it were. They would prefer not to even have to have that conversation about. Is there something on the ceiling?
Sam Cedar
No, no, no.
Emma Vigeland
Okay, okay. They would prefer not to even have that conversation about or have to reckon with what electability really looks like in the Democratic Party because it so hinges on an old assumption about very conservative candidates in purple districts or purple states.
Nathan Robinson
Well, and of course, if Abdul wins. Right. It blows a hole in the. In November. It blows a hole in the. In the whole theory that you have to run more conservative candidates in purple or swing districts. And then they lose the entire argument they had because they never really argued that these people were better. They said, you can't have these people because you have to have these people. You have to have people like Haley Stevens, because the progressives that you love, yes, yes, you might love them, you might agree with them.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
But.
Nathan Robinson
And we saw this in 2016, where a lot of people who didn't vote for Bernie said they didn't vote for Bernie because they didn't think he could win in a general election. And some of us were saying, well, that's a misunderstanding of how politics work. But that's what they were saying. They say, you might want Bernie, but you gotta hope for Hillary because she can win. And so that theory is finally going to die if we select Abdul and then he wins in a general election.
Sam Cedar
Well, let's talk a little bit. I mean, I know that by the time you got to Michigan, Mallory McMurrah was just exiting. But to me, her failure is the most indicative of the problem that AIPAC has, because she could have easily, it seems to me, pivoted in, sort of, like, dropped into that race. Right. The idea, when it became clear that Haley Stevens was not. Was underperforming, she emerged and was supported by the sort of, like, those who want to have, like, the interseen, like, sort of the abundance crowd.
Emma Vigeland
I'm progressive, but I don't really mean it because I won't sacrifice much to Achieve it. Like I'll acknowledge that your aims are just. But I will do very little to achieve them. That's the lane she's going in.
Sam Cedar
The thing that we got fixated on, I mean the thing that we got fixated or you know, that I got fixated on, I think we all did to some extent was her response about single payer health insurance. You wouldn't want Bobby Kennedy in charge of everybody's health insurance, which is probably true, but I wouldn't want him in charge of anything for that matter. And so it's sort of a silly framing of it, but she could have like, she could have dropped into. There's a world where Mallory McMurray could have dropped into this race, not complained about Hasan Piker, I mean, which was bizarre. But and actually been sort of like, I am also anti aipac. I am also this and I am. I mean she could have come in and, and done that, but she couldn't because she couldn't raise the money without. It seems like there's basically only two ways to run now in, in this, it's either the establishment track and the sort of like progressive. You know, Sayed is not DSA but grassroots track. And it's really bifurcated in a way that it hasn't been in the past. And you, the grassroots, you need a lot. You need more than a typical person to generate that level of enthusiasm, although less and less so. And she sort of like McMurrow to me proves that. Like she, in other cycles, I feel like she could have dropped in and been the choice. I mean that's what Biden was. In many respects. Biden was that guy.
Nathan Robinson
Yeah. And compromise.
Sam Cedar
Yes. What's your thoughts about that? The compromise no longer works.
Nathan Robinson
Well, I mean, this is kind of what Elizabeth Warren tried to do in 2020 is steer between the establishment candidates and Bernie Sanders. And that also flopped because it turns out that there's not much of a constituency for the middle between the progressives and the center. Like who is that? And I mean, it's hard for me to really think she. Maybe there's a hypothetical world in which she catches fire. But you know, Abdul and Haley kind of really lay out the stakes very well and people are going to line up behind one of those things. They have a very clear narrative. I mean McMurray didn't have a very clear narrative. There's all sorts of muddiness to what you're describing. But Abdul is very, you know, is Medicare for All anti establishment, anti genocide, anti ice. If you care about these things. If you like these things, I'm your guy. Why would you go with anyone else? And so, yeah, I don't know if there was ever a chance for someone unless early on the establishment had figured out like they did in 2020, that they needed a compromise figure and they all sort of rallied behind. And one of the things that worked to Abdul's advantage was how split the race was for. I think that worked to his advantage.
Sam Cedar
And what do you. Looking forward, I mean, the. What is, what are the implications? Let's assume for a moment that sayed ones in the general, which, you know, it's going to be a hard race and in many respects it feels like it's a. All hands on deck. I mean, because this race, if he loses the general, if he wins the primary and loses the general.
Nathan Robinson
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
That loss is going to be a club that is going to be wielded over and over and over again. So I suspect that like, you know, everybody's going to go to Michigan. Yeah, exactly. I mean, in many respects, I mean, I don't think it's going to be as effective. But people don't understand. When I started doing this in 2004, the specter of McGovern. McGovern still dominated. And that was 30 some odd years, 32 years before the idea of hippie punching, which we no longer talk about really because it's, it's, it's outdated. But 35 years later, we're talking about hippie punching because of McGovern's loss.
John from San Antonio
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
Well, but assuming he wins, like what. What is this going to do for 2028?
Nathan Robinson
Well, I mean, for 2028, it really is going to set up the progressives for victory if they have a good candidate.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Right.
Nathan Robinson
I mean, one of the problems is we don't know how strong of a progressive candidate there's going to be. We don't. I mean, I know the kind of consensus is that AOC is the. Is the obvious choice. We'll see how she does. But the Democratic establishment has a lot of candidates to choose from. You know, they have Pete, but Jeg and Kevin Newsom and Kamala Harris and all sorts of. There's no shortage of horrendous people. But I think what's going to be great is that it is going to show that the base of the Democratic Party is firmly willing to vote for these. At the establishment, populists said that Sanders politics are now where Democratic Party voters at least are at. So if Abdul wins the general election, it's very, very Very good for the progressive movement. If he loses the general election, it's an absolute catastrophe for the progressive movement. And so the stakes are quite high. Assuming that he prevails tonight.
Emma Vigeland
Well, it's also, I mean, it's amazing too, because in the reverse circumstance, if there was an establishment candidate that made it through, you know, eked through and moved on to the general election and then lost to a Republican after there had been this amount of outside spending and negative attack ads against that candidate, the amount that the progressive movement would get blamed for daring to criticize a Democrat in the primary would be astronomical. And yet there will not be the same self reflection if that's what happens with Abdul.
Nathan Robinson
No, that's right. And importantly, if Haley Stevens were to win tonight, she is a very weak general election candidate because her fundraising is really anemic. She spoiled her relationship with all of Abdul supporters by these really gross attack ads accusing him of being a sexist. And also all of her AIPAC money dries up overnight because AIPAC is very interested in defeating Abdul. Al said aipac, I don't see why they'd have any reason to prefer that Haley Stevens beat Mike Rogers. So all of that support that has really, really propped up her campaign has essentially been all of her campaign is AIPAC funded advertising she can no longer depend on. She might well go down in flames. And then of course, she'd say, well, this is because they were so mean to me in the, in the primary.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, I think that is exactly. That nails it right on the head, honestly. I mean, from AIPAC's perspective, Mike Rogers, Haley Stevens, six of one, half dozen of the other. We're going to spend our money in some other race because we're happy with the outcome either way. If Haley Stevens is the candidate, I get the sense she won't be. But that's the dynamic.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
And.
Emma Vigeland
But the Republicans, Trump hasn't spent a dime of the $400 million that his super PAC is raised. And I know the consensus is that they're gonna take a lot of that in terms of, like, you know, salary for people that work at the pac. I agree. They're not gonna take all of that. Trump knows that he can just endorse in a primary, not really have to spend that much, and he can be kingmaker. They have way more resources at their disposal. The RNC has over $100 million in cash on hand. The Democrats. The DNC is in debt right now. It had to put up its headquarters for collateral. It's $2 million in debt.
Nathan Robinson
One of the things that I noticed in Michigan is that it kind of exposed that we talk about the power of the establishment to squash these candidates and how they screwed Bernie and all that, but the Democratic establishment is actually quite weak. The Democratic Party is a weak shell of a party. They don't really have much of an existence. You don't go to Democratic Party meetings. They don't ask you to volunteer. They just text you and demand money from you. But Haley Stevens didn't have any volunteer opportunities. She wasn't doing public appearances. That was one of the weirder things when I was there, is that every single television and every single ad break was just full of these anti Abdul ads or pro Steven ads. But on the ground, there was just almost no presence for Haley Stevens. So they don't have a kind of infrastructure.
Sam Cedar
That honestly reminds me of Cuomo's race. I mean, you block the city and everywhere you'd go, everywhere you'd go, there would be someone who is promoting Mamdani. I ran into one Cuomo guy and I asked him, why Cuomo? And he said, I'm just getting paid, man.
Unidentified Commentator
It's just.
Nathan Robinson
It's a living.
Sam Cedar
Exactly. I mean, it's. That is also, I would say, the sort of the failure of Chuck Schumer and Christian Gillibrand. I mean, if you are worried about Abdul, Al said, if you are upset about Graham Platner rising in Maine,
Unidentified Commentator
you
Sam Cedar
have to look to your nominal head, you know, leaders Chuck Schumer and Kristen Gillibrand, and go, you guys are horrible on your own terms. Like, you are incompetent in that, you know, this is like, this has been a problem with Democrats over an extended period of time.
Emma Vigeland
Now.
Sam Cedar
I don't have as much of a problem with the incompetence of the Democratic establishment because there is an ascendant sort of other power source within or without the party, however you want to look at it, that can. That is meeting the moment in some respects. But if you are a. An establishment Democrat, if you are a, you know, a moderate Democrat, if you are a Democrat who is suspicious of, of, you know, trying to ask much or you think we can't do, you gotta be looking at Gillibrand and Schumer and going, you guys are total incompetence.
Emma Vigeland
And Emily's List, by the way, which is closely associated with Kirsten Gillibrand, and they've been promoting these. They've been abandoning leftist women and only promoting these moderate Democrats like Janet Mills and Haley Stevens and Angie Craig in Minnesota and just throwing that out there as well as another big Democrat, Democratic Party institution.
Nathan Robinson
Yeah, no, I mean, it was remarkable to me when I was out there to see how they were trying to stop Abdul and to realize that they didn't understand that the very things they were trying to deploy in order to stop him were actually helping him. So, you know, $50 million in APAC spending sets up his narrative. His platform is money out of politics. So he's literally then recording ads going, hey, do you see how they're treating you as stupid and trying to buy your vote and manipulate you? This is what I'm talking about when I'm talking about money in politics. Hey, have you seen all of those ads that they're airing nonstop in which they falsely accused me of disparaging women? Well, there's your money in politics. And then a lot of people go, huh? Oh, yeah, I guess he has a point. And so they really kind of of set him up in a way that was very helpful. Like, because sometimes I think, well, how much would Abdul be winning by if they hadn't spent $50 million? Like, imagine how much he'd be winning by then. But I actually think spending this much money totally backfired because he could be
Sam Cedar
leading by last had they not spent that money. And I will say, as you describe that dynamic, all I'm thinking about is Kamala Harris going around with Lynn Cheney basically saying, where the establishment. He's the outsider. He represents. We represent stay the course. He represents change. And it's like, dude, you understand he couldn't pay you enough to set that dichotomy up.
Nathan Robinson
Well, I mean, look, Haley Stevens touting her endorsement from the incumbent senator, from the governor, from Barack. Right. Going back and pretending Obama had endorsed her is going like, if you like the Democratic. If you like the Democrats we already have, you should vote for me. Because all of the Democrats that we already have, the party establishment, they love me. That was her ads. That was her pitch.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah. And I think what's not getting talked enough about is that, yes, the Democratic establishment has lost credibility on winning elections. That's very important to the Democratic voter. But they've also lost credibility on governing. When you have Zoron come in, he's the most visible and popular and important Democrat right now in the country, arguably him and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. And I mean, I guess Bernie, too, still with his influence. But I think in terms of governing and demonstrating what's possible, Zorin is showing that, like, hey, all you had to do was try. And that wing of The Democratic Party that both says trust and us that says trust us to beat Trump, they've lost credibility there. And once you break trust, well, you know, once somebody cheats on you, right. You got like, it's harder to believe them the next time about the other argument that they're making. So I think that's part of it.
Nathan Robinson
You have to put up with the fact that we never deliver anything for you because we beat Republicans. But it's like, okay, but you do need those things, so you are worthless. We don't need you. And then Zoran comes along and brilliantly, I think, focuses on how do I deliver wins that people notice. And it's like, okay, I'm going to fill 100,000 potholes. I'm going to build rest stops for delivery workers. We're going to, like, immediately give another year of childcare. We're going to do all of those things that everyone notices. And now his approval ratings, like, nearly 60%. Instantly, the majority of people go from seeing New York is headed in the wrong direction to headed in the right direction because he understands that all you need to do is demonstrate competence. And all of a sudden, people associate in their heads compet and socialism, and they go, oh, I kind of like this socialism thing, because it seems to mean getting the potholes filled.
Sam Cedar
Right? Yes, exactly.
Emma Vigeland
And that's why he stood down with Jeffries, too. I mean, and I think that should be noted. That's. That is why they picked their battles early on. Didn't want Anne with and with Tish. Didn't want to fight a battle on every single front. And I just want, you know, people to recognize that because it is strategic in the battles that they're selecting.
Nathan Robinson
Jeffrey shouldn't get comfortable, though, because as we know, Zord will make a promise that he's not going to endorse anyone against you. And then the moment he senses that there's a shift in the political opportunity, you're gone. Because I think that's what happened in one of those races with Espilout.
Emma Vigeland
And why would he play by the rules that they don't play by? And then they clutch their pearls about it. I was at that Valdez party for dsa, and what people were chanting when Hakeem Jackson came on screen was, you are next. Over and over. So, like, I think DSA gets it. And Zoron, as a product of dsa, understands it, too.
Sam Cedar
There is a time to reap and there's a time to sow.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
And we, we're reaping. And Sowing simultaneously. Also, there can be a time where you do both at the same time.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
It's.
Nathan Robinson
It's a crazy moment. I mean, you know, I. I've been now writing. Our magazine started in 2016, and we were pleading and going like, you have to nominate Bernie Trump is going to be the President of the United States. And it falls apart, and then it all happens again. This disaster happens a second time, and now we're in a second Trump term. But you think, oh, finally, after we've all worked on this for, like, 10 years, we seem to be. We seem to be in a political moment where there are competent, charismatic, pragmatic progressives who are ascending to power. And it's kind of exciting. As someone who's used to doing nothing but losing.
Emma Vigeland
Yes.
Nathan Robinson
Over and over.
Sam Cedar
All right, that, that. I got one final question for you that is slightly off this as. As you say that. Though it is stunning to me that the charismatic candidates all seem to be the progressives. Like, what's going on here?
Emma Vigeland
Can I give my theory? Because I think I'm stealing this a little bit from Hasan, but he says he'll compare Buttigieg to Zoran. Like, Buttigieg is a good speaker, and people will talk about how talented Zoron is. I think Buttigieg is a very talented communicator, but he's not saying anything. That's, I think, part of what the charisma adds to. Right.
Sam Cedar
I mean, Buttigieg has some.
Emma Vigeland
He.
Sam Cedar
I would put him in terms of establishment candidates. He is on the more charismatic side of it. I think he's, you know.
Emma Vigeland
Okay, Newsom then. Right. I mean, then compare Newsom as a charisma, charismatic figure to. Now.
Sam Cedar
I'm just looking at, like, at least in the context of these midterms. I mean, I think Newsom has charisma. I find him creepy. But, but, but, but he has charisma. But Haley Stevens? No. Janet Mills? No. Like, whenever we've seen any of the, like, the real, real sort of heated battles, all of the ones in New York, I mean, there is a charisma deficit on the establishment side. And I wonder why that is. I wonder if that's a generational difference, like, charismatic people who are younger, they just have grown up in a different sort of, like, context. I don't know.
Nathan Robinson
Yeah. So there's part of it that is an inherent challenge, which is that, you know, the chance. What do we want? Moderate change, where do we want it in due course is, like, difficult to get people excited about, but then also just all the young people are socialists now. So if you would have, you know, the sort of people like Abdul. This was one of the interesting observations to me about Abdul was I was like, if this guy had been like a Rhodes Scholar in 1996, he probably would have ended up in the Clinton administration because it was raising these people was just different and Obama kind of the same thing. So now it's just that all of the young people have been radicalized by their circumstances and those are the people out of whom the next generation of political leaders are going to come.
Sam Cedar
I think that's well said. Nathan Robinson, Current affairs folks. Yeah, if you are not, if you are not subscribed to Current affairs, you are missing out both, both in terms of. First off, hold that up. That is gorgeous.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
And you can't find. It's very rare. I mean, I don't mean to keep too much praise on you, you, but it is very rare to find like a magazine that is actually like beautiful, like, like well done and cared for on top of the writing is excellent, but just the whole package is fantastic.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Thank.
Nathan Robinson
Well, thank you very much, Sam. That means a lot because we love what you do as well. And you know, I got that from Jacobin, which is that was the first time when the left has really like professionalized in a certain way. By which I don't mean that they've gone like bourgeois, but I mean like we care about things like aesthetics and we can and competence. And so Jacobin was the first one. There was a magazine that was just really beautifully designed and I was like, oh, we can have the radical politics, but we'll hire just incredible artists. So our magazine is always full of this really beautiful handmade art because we have all these teams of artists, artists who do it because we're like, oh, well, why don't you give people. You're trying to pitch a message that is often difficult, which is you're talking about, you know, genocide and refugees and climate change. You could at least like give people some joy in the art and in the pleasure to be found in the good writing. And so some of it is like trying to help the medicine go down.
Sam Cedar
Well, it's also, I have to say that like, you know, and I haven't seen seen it structured this way, but there was an era where we were talking about things as being a corrective, where you would have a format that pre. That existed whether it was late night talk shows or news and, and you retain the format and the quality, but you deliver a different message and you Guys have not only. You have superseded the format in many respects. Really appreciate current affairs and can't encourage people enough to head over there. Support the magazine. Subscribe you will be very happy you did. Nathan Robinson, thanks so much for your time. Really appreciate it.
Nathan Robinson
Thanks, Emma. Great to see you.
Emma Vigeland
Always great to see you, buddy.
Sam Cedar
All right, we're gonna take a break and I think what we're going to do is.
Unidentified Commentator
Do you want to do that?
Sam Cedar
That's.
Unidentified Commentator
I. I would think this is.
Sam Cedar
I'll tell you, this is the look I got from Matt.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
I was thinking about. It's gonna be confusing to folks. I think they just want to watch the whole.
Emma Vigeland
Let's just roll through.
Sam Robinson
It's.
Emma Vigeland
We got 18 minutes until post, until polls close. Although I do want to take a break.
Unidentified Commentator
I learned the look from Sol. I'm like, hey, what looks gonna throw you back.
Emma Vigeland
Can you do one shot so I can get some wine?
Sam Cedar
Oh, you know what? We're gonna. Let's do this. We're gonna take a, you know, a 90 second break, a two minute break. We gotta load up our, our booze, a refill break.
Emma Vigeland
I need some wine on air for us, for me to get this done. Continue.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, can I just talk about, like, what, like the. What we ordered beforehand.
Emma Vigeland
Mine. Go ahead, rip into me.
Sam Cedar
No, no, I'm not ripping into you. I'm not ripping into you.
Emma Vigeland
Make fun of me then.
Sam Cedar
I mean, this is gentle teasing.
Emma Vigeland
Okay.
Sam Cedar
Emma has a very specific, like, wine that you like, right?
Emma Vigeland
That is. Yeah. No, but, but it's. It's a cheap wine that I like. There's a lot of cheap wine that I don't like, but there's a specific cheap. Under $20 bottle.
Sam Cedar
Oh, I, I got, I got the $22 bottle.
Emma Vigeland
Well, thank you so much.
Sam Cedar
I get that. I said, what's the most expensive? You wanted specifically a.
Emma Vigeland
A New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Okay.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah.
Bernie Moreno
Right.
Emma Vigeland
It has the fruity tones that I like. And there are some Sauvignon blancs. I really don't like a California Sauvignon Blanc. It's just not my style. I'll drink any red, but I don't like to drink red on air because it makes my teeth look more. Okay.
Sam Cedar
So I responded, what about an Australian Sauvignon Blanc?
Emma Vigeland
And I got the text in my head. I was like, like, why can't he find the goddamn New Zealand?
Sam Cedar
But you said, affordability. Affordability. You said, okay. And then I wanted to see if I could go further. And I said, what about a Tasmanian SA.
Emma Vigeland
Because I know there's like a 40% chance you're just with me.
Sam Cedar
I know it was like 70 to 80%. 40%
Unidentified Commentator
Tasmanian.
Tasmanian Sauvignon.
Emma Vigeland
Okay.
Unidentified Commentator
100.00.
Emma Vigeland
You know what? Yeah, I didn't pick up on that.
Sam Cedar
No, you didn't. No. That's $200 of.
Unidentified Commentator
In the economy.
Emma Vigeland
So what was it? I didn't even end up drinking that one because I brought my.
Sam Cedar
I got you the New Zealand.
Emma Vigeland
This one I got. I was like, like he's not, he may forget. Like everybody else here drinks with one
Sam Cedar
of those soft canteen things that you wear as a backpack.
Unidentified Commentator
Camelback in the.
Sam Cedar
Camelback with the, with the straw into a New Zealand.
Emma Vigeland
So I will take the Australian Sauvignon blanc that you got and they'll be like, you know, cooking wine for me at some other point.
Sam Cedar
Oh, that is not. That's a, That's a nice.
Emma Vigeland
I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking.
Sam Cedar
I have to say that I, I. We've been talking a lot about Michigan and we'll take a break here. But I will say that I. Ben Fox is saying Tasmania is in Australia. That's what I thought. I know that. I know that.
Emma Vigeland
So I think 40% California is in America.
Sam Cedar
I understand that. But if I say it's a Californian sovereign Yong Blanc. Thank you. They're like, well, it's an American one. I get it.
Unidentified Commentator
Nebraska and Sav Blanc.
Sam Cedar
Exactly. I drank a lot of box wine when I was in Michigan. How would you say that?
Unidentified Commentator
Well, yeah, probably in Michigan, but all over.
Sam Cedar
Yeah.
Emma Vigeland
Did you slap the bag or is that just a thing you do when you're in a sorority?
Unidentified Commentator
No, I did that. Yeah. You never. He's never taken it out of the box.
Emma Vigeland
Oh, no way. You take the bag out of the box and you chug it and then you slap the back bag when you're done.
Unidentified Commentator
We called that a space bag.
Sam Cedar
My. My ex wife's family's place. I'm not going to do that.
Emma Vigeland
Oh, no. Okay. Well, you're very well behem.
Sam Cedar
I'd watch them do it, but I didn't do it. All right, we're going to take quick break. We'll be back and we will start our election or continue with our election coverage.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Oh, yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
We've been live.
John from San Antonio
Sam.
Bernie Moreno
It.
John from San Antonio
It.
Unidentified Commentator
Sa.
John from San Antonio
Sam.
Sam Cedar
Okay, I'm in the middle of eating pizza. And things have broken down so much now that we're doing sound drops when we're off air in Fadada. In fada info in.
Emma Vigeland
That's what Ezra Klein did. He take out that op ed saying he was the future of the Democratic Party.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, I think it was Iglesias who said he was Eric Adams. We will get to some Eric Adams choice Eric Adams audio in a bit. First, it is election eve and polls are closing in about seven minutes. Before we get to the polls closing, let's take a phone call from I believe this should be John in San Antonio.
John from San Antonio
Good afternoon, Sam and Emma. This is. Good evening, Sam and Emma. This is John from San Antonio.
Sam Cedar
John from San Antonio. I knew it was you because I was expecting you to call.
John from San Antonio
Yeah, yeah. It's been a triumphant primary season for progressives and Democratic socialists. I expect more wins tonight and next Tuesday. This show has done an excellent job covering these races and tonight's Senate race in Michigan featuring Abdul El Sayed as the most important race of the cycle. Despite a record $60 million by corporate PACs being spent against El Sayed, he is the heavy favorite to win tonight. My polling average has El sayed up by 13.4 points, though the most recent objective pollster, Emerson College, has him up by 16. El Sayed was the Wayne County Health Director from 2023 to 2025 and is a staunch advocate for Medicare for All and banning corporate money in politics. He's a huge supporter of unions and many other progressive priorities. He has massive progressive support despite the tremendous onslaught of corporate money which is broken down. About half of the money coming from AIPAC and the other half coming from 44 different corporate PACs who supported ELSOL Sayed opponent Haley Stevens. El Sayed has recently gained in polls if El Sayed Troy Jackson, along with blue state nominees like Peggy Flanagan, who's the favorite to win in next Tuesday's Minnesota Senate race, and Juliana Stratton, who will win in very blue Illinois. There will be a massive upgrade in the Democratic Senate if other more centrist Democrats can flip four seats in swing states. There will also be an upgrade compared to Republican senators and Democrats will control the Senate chamber. In the seventh District of Michigan. Progressive Will Lawrence, who is one of the founders of the Sunrise movement, has been leading in most polls, including the last one with adjustments by 14 points. That poll was sponsored by one of his opponents, centrist Mazmas Mac Mazdam. Lawrence was endorsed by Bernie Sanders and Abdul El Said, who both rallied with Lawrence in Lansing, Michigan on July 19. Some of Lawrence's major priorities are lowering the cost of living, protecting pure Michigan, which includes a moratorium on AI data centers, saying no to endless wars and restoring the rule of law. He supports Medicare for all. The 7th district is a swing district. They're currently being represented by Republican Tom Barrett who won this district in 2024 by 3.7 points and Trump won this district by 1 point. In the 13th district of Michigan, DSA endorsed Donovan McKinney is running against heavily self funded and corporate funded incumbent Sri Thanadar. McKinney's priorities are economic security, living wages and union jobs, environmental and gender climate, justice, health care and housing for all and other progressive priorities. He has the support of Justice Democrats and Bernie Sanders who has rallied with him twice, the latest time being on July 18th. Unlike the other two races I mentioned earlier, this is a safe Democratic district. There's only been one poll in this race that was released in mid July that was sponsored by Justice Democrats that had Sanadara up by four points. But progressives and Democratic Socialists have been mostly exceeding polling expectations and races throughout this cycle. Sri Thanadar is a wealthy man and he loaned his campaign $13 million. He put $3.7 million in campaign funds into the cryptocurrency industry and lost $600,000 $30,000 on that investment. And Missouri, Missouri's first district, former two term representative from the District Cori Bush is running against heavily APAC funded Wesley Bell who beat Bush in 2024. Bush had an excellent voting record when she was in Congress. Her priorities include lowering costs and expanding opportunities, investing in public health including Medicare for all, building safer communities and other progressive values. She's endorsed by dsa, Justice Democrats Bernie Sanders and Rashida Tlaib. There's only one poll in this race from late February that was sponsored by Bush's campaign that had Bell up by four points. But again momentum has been with Democratic Socialists and progresses in this cycle. Emma interviewed Bush on July 23. Wesley Bell was has received $8.5 million from APAC in its offshoots in this cycle. Looking forward to next week's races in Wisconsin's Democratic gubernatorial election, DSA endorsed Francesca Hong is the heavy favorite in this race. Hong is consistently led by wide margins in polling in this race. Even though former Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, who is in second place, dropped out year last last Thursday. David Crowley, who previously dropped out, is now the current the leading centrist to go against Hong. Even if you combine Barnes and Crowley's numbers, Hong still leads by double digits. Hong supports universal child care, paid sick leave for all fully funded public schools. She wants the federal government to pass Medicare for all. But as Governor she Wants to expand Medicaid, improve badge and improve badger care. Like El sayed in Lawrence, if they win, they'll probably be in a competitive race in the general election. Also next week in Minnesota Senate race, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan is the favorite to win. She leaves centrist federal congressman or favorite congresswoman. Sorry about that. Angie Craig. In the latest poll by double digits and has led in most polls throughout the cycle. Flanagan supports Medicare for all, ending corruption by making Washington work for Minnesotans, not special interests. Affording your life, putting more money in Minnesota's pockets, protecting Minnesota's farmers and other progressive priorities. She's endorsed by Bernie Sanders, who rallied with her as well as Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley. Emma interviewed her on July 4th. If you have any questions or comments, I'd be happy to hear them.
Sam Cedar
Thank you. Because I do have two questions, John. The first question, which I actually want you to answer second is where are we relative to 2006? And I will circle back to that question. But the first, the first question is I noticed you cited when we had Cori Bush on and other candidates, how many times did we have Abdul Al said on the program,
John from San Antonio
I'm not really sure recently, have y' all had him on? I mean.
Emma Vigeland
Oh, John, we had him on in studio and in fact the elevator was out and we had to make him walk up double digit flights of space.
Sam Cedar
Did he walk all the way up?
Nathan Robinson
He did.
Sam Cedar
Oh my God.
Emma Vigeland
It was. Yeah. You weren't in that day.
Sam Cedar
No, I wasn't in that day. We've had him on at least twice, I think. Right.
Emma Vigeland
Gotta be.
John from San Antonio
Okay, well, great.
Sam Cedar
Well, I just, you know, you cited the other time, other candidates that we had had on and you just didn't cite that. And I was wondering what's up with that?
John from San Antonio
Yeah. Okay. Well, it was my mistake. Yeah. I mean you've definitely promoted him. Him, it's. And he's a, he's one of the greatest Senate candidates, I think. You know, if he wins, he'll be right there up there with Bernie, the two top senators, no doubt about it.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
So.
Unidentified Commentator
All right.
Sam Cedar
I just noticed you didn't mention that we had him on and you'd mentioned it with the other ones.
Unidentified Commentator
So now you know what it feels like to work here, John.
John from San Antonio
2006.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, let's get back to 2006 because
Emma Vigeland
2006 also polls have closed, just FYI.
Sam Cedar
Polls have closed in Michigan. 2006, if I remember correctly, Democrats had a generic plus eight going into the general around this time. I think we're probably around the same situation. 2006 there was a growing anti war movement. Things weren't as gerrymandered. So I think, I think Democrats won something like. Was it 40 seats or more in 2006?
John from San Antonio
I think it was 30.
Sam Cedar
30. Okay, thank you.
John from San Antonio
And they wanted more in 2018 and
Sam Cedar
they won more in 2018. This year there's just fewer seats that are in play because of all the gerrymanders. You want to, you want to take a guess of where we are relative to 2006? Do you want to, do you have a comment or we. We not there. My head of. Have I gotten ahead of things?
John from San Antonio
No, no, I would. You know, a lot of people already have models out. Elliot Morris just put out his model. I'm seeing consistently that Democrats are going to win between 228 and 230 seats. You know, so, you know, if you would take out the Calais decision and all the gerrymandering, you know, it'd probably be 236 to 240. So yeah, I mean, I think that things are fairly comparable.
Sam Cedar
Do you want to make a prediction about the Senate, John, or is it too early?
John from San Antonio
Well, I think Democrats look pretty good right now. I mean there's a lot of races that are very much toss up races and so, you know, it's going to be tough. I mean, I think even on election night there's going to be a lot of, you know, concerns and anxiety. But you know, we're still three months away. People start paying attention after Labor Day. Trump is going to keep doing crazy shit in our things and, and that's going to make, you know, that's going to give Democrats the advantage. I mean, as we get closer, you know, things, things are usually turned to the, to the party who already has
Sam Cedar
the lead and particularly the out party too, I would imagine.
John from San Antonio
Right, right. I mean the average is 25. It used to be 26. You know, I wouldn't be surprised. I mean that would be about 10 more seats than a lot of people are predicting. But yeah, I mean nobody is really predicting that the Republicans are going to win. I mean traditional forecasters are saying that they're not giving as large of leads, but they don't do that anyway. They don't create models, you know. But yeah, it's just, it's looking, looking pretty good right now. And you know, the primary season has been the best ever and you know, I think it's gonna be, be pretty great for, for, you know, if we get a, you know, win both houses and you know, I. I'd like to see some kind of economic. Even though, you know, Trump's going to just veto it, I mean, try to get some kind of reconciliation bill that will help people economically. You know, there's still a lot of centrist Democrats, and so, you know, it probably will be similar to Inflation Reduction Act.
Sam Cedar
It's not going to be interesting. All that's going to be interesting. We'll have plenty of time to talk about that. But. But I do think it's going to be interesting because if the progressives really carry the day, and we won't know until after the general election, they might be able to force an affordability agenda that would create a scenario where we do get a reconciliation bill that is more progressive than even the caucus itself wants to vote for. But they will, because they know it's going to be vetoed. And the value of that is it sets a. Theoretically anyways, a marker. All right, let me ask you this question. And then we're going to. We're going to start, you know, really heavily drinking. Second, this is a second order thing. And, you know, we live in the era where I think a couple of weeks ago, I saw that online gambling is actually a more popular leisure activity than reading.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
So
Sam Cedar
we're in the Hellscape. But with that said, we do a show and we got to service our customers. What would you put the odds? And this is a deep bet that Fetterman flips because it's a function of how well Democrats do or don't do. Right. If they get it. If we get to 51, 49, I think Fetterman is going to flip. What would you put the odds for people who are betting their kids college education on that bet?
Emma Vigeland
This is not gambling advice.
Sam Cedar
This is not gambling.
John from San Antonio
Yeah. I don't know. I mean, first, he said he definitely wasn't gonna flip.
Sam Cedar
Oh, he's definitely gonna flip. So what I'm asking is, do you think we'll get to 5149 if. If we're at 5149. Yeah, he's gonna flip. There's no doubt about.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yeah,
Sam Cedar
because, I mean, he's a lunatic.
John from San Antonio
Yeah, he is.
Bernie Moreno
Yeah.
John from San Antonio
I mean, Adam Jindelson said the same thing, but, you know, he just said recently that he's not going to Fetterman.
Sam Cedar
Oh, okay.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Okay.
John from San Antonio
You know, I mean, we should trust. Yeah. I mean, who knows? I mean, I mean. Yeah, I'd love to see 50, 52. And 52 is possible.
Sam Cedar
Let me be more explicit. If I'm going to Pay for Saul's college education. I need a bump right now. And so what do we got? Tell me what the odds. Do I vote that Fetterman flips or no?
John from San Antonio
I. Yeah. I don't know. I would probably. Probably be 50. 50. I mean, you know, so what do I do?
Sam Cedar
I take $75 and put it on. No. And $75 on. Yes.
Unidentified Commentator
Yes.
Sam Cedar
Is that the way I do that? I'll ask. I'll ask. I'll ask Brian. He knows how to bat parlays and stuff.
John from San Antonio
Yeah, I don't know. I mean it may be. It may be 55 that he will flip, you know, but.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, okay, sold.
Emma Vigeland
But great.
John from San Antonio
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
If Saul doesn't go to college, gonna be your fault.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah. So. Okay.
Sam Cedar
All right, John from San Antonio, thanks for calling in. Hopefully. Fingers crossed. I hope you're right with your I'm vague prediction.
Emma Vigeland
Thanks, John. We always appreciate your expertise.
John from San Antonio
All right, thank you.
Sam Cedar
I will see you later.
Emma Vigeland
I'm itching to talk a little bit about.
Sam Cedar
All right, let's get Kornacki up on the.
Emma Vigeland
So the early. What we can tell everybody right now is that the polls are closing in a majority of. Of the state in Michigan, but not the entire state because there are some counties that are in a different time zone.
Sam Cedar
Total bullshit.
Emma Vigeland
So we're going to be getting more and more. The House. The House results.
Unidentified Commentator
The House all over again, totally rigged.
Emma Vigeland
The House results are going to come in, I think sooner because polls close for. In all of the competitive races that we're following at 8pm but we're not going to have a full picture until 9.
Sam Cedar
Let's see what Kornacki saying.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
Incidentally, we should make it clear we have not hired Steve Kornacki.
Emma Vigeland
We have not.
Sam Cedar
He works for NBC. But.
Emma Vigeland
But some of the election experts that I'm following on Twitter, like the Vote Hub, people have indicated that like. So Kent County, Oakland county and Wayne county are going to be really key here. Okay, let's go over to Virginia and
Sam Cedar
that's actually what Sam told us too.
Emma Vigeland
Yes. So at least from Kent county,
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
it.
Emma Vigeland
This is a district that or a county that Haley Stevens has to do quite well in.
Sam Cedar
She has to do well in Wayne Oakland and Kent. She doesn't. She's fried.
Emma Vigeland
There you go. So those are the three to watch out for. And early results are not as good as she would like in those absentee votes, but we're still looking at it. Very.
Sam Cedar
He's moved on to Virginia. I mean, it is what it is. Jen Kiggins Republican incumbent.
Unidentified Commentator
Been following that.
Sam Cedar
I can now exhale.
Unidentified Commentator
Seems fake Kickins mentum continues.
Sam Cedar
The other big race, I mean it's, there's three major races in Michigan. There's some, there's, there's down ballot races where there's a lot of DSA people in Michigan who are running who have a good shot at things. The mayor of Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor, sort of like a very liberal city in Michigan, particularly from Michigan. You can go from Ann Arbor, which is, you know, very progressive and then college town. College town, obviously, and University of Michigan's there. You could drive about two hours out from Ann Arbor and it is, I don't know if anybody saw Deliverance.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, you'll find the governor duct taped to a chair.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, exactly. So Michigan's a pretty diverse state. You know, the rural urban divide is the story of America in many respects.
Emma Vigeland
Yes.
Sam Cedar
It's also frankly the story of just about every country in, in many respects throughout history. Even, even in, you know, in Cuba, the, when I was down there, this is 25 years ago, they would bring the police. The police were hired from the country and they'd come in and they have a natural suspicion of the urban people. And that was a strategy.
Emma Vigeland
I just want to point out we've talked about the Lawrence race in Michigan seventh and then of course McKinney in Michigan's 13. But there's another kind of sleeper race in Haley Stevens old district. I saw that our friend Mela Quiros and some other kind of Justice Democrat, DSA aligned people were supporting her as well. Aisha faruki. It's a four way race in Haley Stevens old district in Michigan's 11th. And that's just another kind of dark horse for us to pay attention to in Michigan. Michigan.
Sam Cedar
All right, let's take a moment to follow the other thing when we talk about Democratic control of the Senate. Ohio is going to be a big deal and Sherrod Brown is doing quite well against John Husted at the moment in terms of the polls. One never knows. But what a perfect scenario you would want for a state like Ohio, which is pretty solidly read now and you know, reminder that Sherrod Brown had lost is complete disarray amongst the Republican Party there.
Emma Vigeland
Yep.
Sam Cedar
And if you were to design complete disarray, let's say you were just in like a, like a writer's room and you're spitballing. How about we take the senator who's got like maybe some whispers about being closeted and hiding that and then let's give him a Daughter and have the daughter married to a sitting congressman who turns out to be a roided up abuser of women and children.
Unidentified Commentator
Plot twist.
Emma Vigeland
This is such a sitcom scenario. They're all under one Roman trying to figure it out.
Sam Cedar
An hour long drama.
Unidentified Commentator
It sounds like Halloween 2 to me when you find out Michael Myers is Jamie Lee Curtis is his brother Max
Emma Vigeland
Miller has the same haircut as Jamie Lee Curtis.
Unidentified Commentator
So.
Sam Cedar
But you want to add a little bit of a twist to it. So the senator is afraid to squeal on the congressman ex husband who has been literally abusing your daughter because he's got this secret. I don't know what it could be. We'd have to grind through the different possible narratives to come up with it. And he's got this secret and so he doesn't come out until it's like so embarrassing for him politically to not defend his daughter that he comes out and says, hey, this guy who's abusing my daughter is a bad guy. Here is Bernie Moreno today. This is number three, where he basically starts to reveal what's been going on apparently for years. Incidentally, Let's go with number five. Number five, this is important context because all the way back a year and I guess about two years ago, a year and a half. Wait, January of 2024. So that's. Is that a year and a half?
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yep.
Sam Cedar
Okay, here is Bernie Marino talking about his son in law, Max Miller. Pop this up there. Thank you, Max Miller, Ohio, for your support and endorsement. You know firsthand how important it is to put the US Senate back into Republican hands. Means ending the invasion at our border, restoring our sovereignty, cutting government spending and unleashing American energy.
Unidentified Commentator
About family values in there now.
Sam Cedar
Yeah. Odd. Now, I don't know how long Max Miller was married to Marino's daughter, but my sense is that just from what I've read, because I'm not an expert at this, that somebody who's abusive. It doesn't start in the last three months. Do you know what I mean?
Emma Vigeland
No, I know what you mean. It's maybe why George Santos called Max Miller a woman beater on the House floor in late 2023.
Sam Cedar
Weird. Yeah, that's weird. Now, to be fair, he could have been responding to when Stephanie Grisham, who worked for Trump, claimed that Miller was beating her or slapped her.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, and you can't expect Moreno to
Emma Vigeland
care about that after she accused him of cheating.
Unidentified Commentator
Also, those guys usually don't do that more than once.
Emma Vigeland
No.
Nathan Robinson
Right.
Sam Cedar
Well, anyways, here's Senator Bernie Moreno. So Talking about the incredible ordeal the family has been going through, subsequent to thanking him for the endorsement publicly, and also subsequent to being really quiet about it. At a time where I can understand protecting your family, but when it becomes so public that your wife is now getting a restraining. Your daughter is getting restraining order for
Emma Vigeland
her lawyer, you might need to. Actually, she got one for her family,
Sam Cedar
and then she had to get one for her lawyer. Like, how many times, how many people in her circle does she have to get restraining orders for before dad speaks up? Well, I guess it just ends with the lawyer. Here it is. Did the lawyer, Max Miller, apologize to you?
Bernie Moreno
No, he did not.
Emma Vigeland
Do you believe that Max Miller should resign from Congress right now?
Bernie Moreno
Did you read that statement?
Emma Vigeland
You said he's on Twitter through Congress, Max.
Bernie Moreno
I did not. I said, absolutely, Max shouldn't serve in Congress. They need serious help. That's exactly what my statement says. My statement speaks for itself.
Sam Cedar
He said that you're in response to your statement.
Emma Vigeland
That's him saying, I'm not going to endorse him resigning from Congress because Mike Johnson's numbers are so slim. That's him saying that. Did you read my statement? While it didn't say that you supported the resignation, you said that he was unfit to serve. And then he doesn't answer the question because he. He's still a coward. That has dirt on him in the same way that Miller had dirt on him. And it seemed like these are open secrets within the Republican caucus caucus.
Bernie Moreno
Congress needs serious help. That's exactly what my statement says.
Sam Cedar
He said that you're in response to your statement that it was to protect from your own circus.
Bernie Moreno
To that you say what, the ramblings of mad men. I don't even know what that means.
Sam Cedar
What did you think of Miller telling
Bernie Moreno
Trump he could still win the election? Look, I don't care about the politics of this. I hope that you guys understand, maybe I hope you never have to understand what my daughter's been through, what my daughter is going through, what my wife is going through. My two other. My two boys and my other daughter are going through this.
Sam Cedar
This is the guy I met on Grindr is going through level of hell.
Bernie Moreno
This has been a horrific experience for my entire family.
Unidentified Commentator
My.
Bernie Moreno
My daughter specifically did not want this to be out in the public. That's why she asked me to stay. Lower the temperature. You got to remember, when you don't have you get divorced, you can just say farewell. We never have to see each other again. But when you have a child, you have to cope Co parent with that individual for the rest of your life. That means scheduling pickups, scheduling drop offs, endorsement for Congress. This is not something that you can just say, I'll never have to deal
Unidentified Commentator
with this guy again.
Bernie Moreno
My daughter lives in constant fear of this man. Not like something that's existential, but deeply in her heart, she fears what this guy is capable of. Fathom what that makes me feel like.
Sam Cedar
Why is this elevator opening and closing
Unidentified Commentator
over and over and over again?
Bernie Moreno
And to have this whole thing out in the public like, this is not what I wanted to do. It's not what my daughter wanted to do. But on Sunday, when he went out and did what he did, including releasing photos of my granddaughter completely naked. But now you have.
Sam Cedar
All right, pause it for a second. Okay, okay. You know what I mean? Look, I am trying to. I am honestly trying to empathize with their predicament and I am trying to put myself in their position. And I can understand, like, you don't want to make. You want to lower the temperature as much as you can, but I'm sorry. Like, when it came out that she had a restraining order against him, nobody involved in politics didn't realize that this wasn't going to get bigger. And when she came out and had to get a restraining order for her attorney because the guy was trying to beat up her attorney. This sounds so disingenuous to me.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
And the fact that he's now going further. And. And look, if you want to minimize this for the kids and for your daughter, for your grandkids and your daughter, you don't talk about pictures of the two year old. I mean, I'm sorry. This is so twisted on every side of it. I can't even. It's so disturbing.
Unidentified Commentator
I miss this development of the picture.
John from San Antonio
Really?
Emma Vigeland
Me too.
Sam Cedar
Yes.
Emma Vigeland
I saw that he had mentioned that the. That Miller apparently took the child's toy away, that they can't sleep without a bunny, and that wouldn't use that and wouldn't give it back, which sounds as psychotic, this picture thing and what they're
Unidentified Commentator
referring to, the doc. The lawyer about the apology was apparently, in addition to filming that Kevin Spacey style video in his kitchen about how he was innocent, he also posted a Dropbox folder with a bunch of images, including one in which the child's genitals may have been.
Sam Cedar
First of all, like, that's a federal offense. Like, you can get arrested for that now.
Emma Vigeland
But. But why did Trump endorse him in 2022 against an Inc. Against a Republican that had Voted for impeachment.
Sam Cedar
Shared values.
Emma Vigeland
Exactly.
Sam Cedar
But, but, but.
Emma Vigeland
And leverage over him.
Sam Cedar
What Marino's doing now is crazy. Gross.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
You.
Sam Cedar
You say, look, I'm protecting my family. I'm worried about my daughter. This guy should not only resign from his campaign or quit his campaign. The guy should walk himself down to the police department. And that's it. That's my comment. Period. End of story. But this is. It's this. This is just weird. Good.
Bernie Moreno
Thousands of psychotic human beings that have that. And to say oops is grotesque. My personal opinion is that this is a felony and that every single human being that touched that photo and transmitted it electronically should go to jail because it is illegal to do that. This has been brutal, beyond comprehension. And if there's any minimum standard for being an elected official, as I said, he fails to meet that minimum basic standard. I don't care about the politics at all. Don't think about it. Doesn't enter my consciousness.
Sam Cedar
Respectfully, why didn't you say something earlier? This has been going on for such a long time.
Bernie Moreno
As I just said, and as maybe you don't understand.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, yeah.
Bernie Moreno
When your daughter tells you you have to de. Escalate this thing because you want to keep it private. This has been going on for two years. Why did you just cover it today instead of covering it a year ago? This has been going on. This was about de escalation. Every single week, she has to go arrange for a pickup and drop off of this little child. Just this Sunday, I had to go. Imagine this. I had to go pick her up because I don't want my daughter interact. Interacting with this man.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Can you.
Emma Vigeland
I mean, I'm sorry. I'm so struck by how much he is centering himself in his daughter's abuse. Is anyone else noticing that?
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, I'm noticing it, but I just. Par for the course for a politician.
Emma Vigeland
But I mean, I guess like you. You would hope that he would basically talk about her pain and like, he's talking in general about what the family's going through. And he's like, can you imagine what I had to go through picking her up? I mean, I just noticed this with more conservative men and how they talk about their daughters.
Sam Cedar
Say, my grandchild.
Emma Vigeland
Yes.
Sam Cedar
I don't know. He's a weird dude.
Unidentified Commentator
Thing feels very strange. And I don't take it on his word that this is anything his daughter wants. Even what he's doing right now or what he's been doing.
Sam Cedar
There is definitely, like an element of this story that is. There is a Part of like, yes there. It's like you're watching people. All you're seeing is sort of the implication of somebody driving around something. You don't see what they're driving around. But here's Marino and then here is CBS News political correspondent Kately Huey Burns detailing. Oh, well, that's basically it.
Unidentified Commentator
It's what he was about, reiterating what he said.
Sam Cedar
So John Thune in A Profile of Courage comes out and addresses this. And I have to say I'm a skeptical guy, but when I saw this Republican leader get up in front of that microphone and address this, I thought, wow, here's a guy who really believes in the family values that the Republican Party has always espoused, who really believes in honor and doing the right thing and not. And the buck stops here with Thune. One of the members of your conference, Senator Bernie Marino, is publicly calling on Max Miller's former son in law to resign from Congress. Amid these allegations, do you side with Senator Bernie Marino and should Max Miller resign? I'm just one. It's a very, it's a very sad, an unfortunate case. It is a family matter. And I just, I don't have any observations beyond that.
Emma Vigeland
If a member of Congress is facing allegations of domestic abuse, should they continue to serve in that role?
Sam Cedar
Well, you talking about this particular case.
Unidentified Commentator
Okay.
Sam Cedar
Well, I mean, I think again, that's something that the House of Representatives, House matter. And, and obviously, as I said before, it's a family issue too, in this case. But I think, you know, those decisions on the future there are going to be made ultimately by the people of Ohio. And I think that's true. And I would say that of any similar case, it ultimately comes down. It's an issue between whoever that person
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
is and the voters that they represent
Sam Cedar
and then obviously the institution in which they serve. And when we've had circumstances like this,
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
we refer them to the Senate Ethics Committee.
Sam Cedar
Senator Langford, who chairs that committee, is here.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
And there is a process by which
Sam Cedar
those determinations get made. You know, I have to say he's right. Domestic violence is a family matter. That's true.
Emma Vigeland
To call it domestic matter.
Unidentified Commentator
Definition.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, by definition. I mean, it's hard to argue. He really took a very strong position on that.
Unidentified Commentator
I realized at the end why that microphone was pointed at basically ass level.
Sam Cedar
Here's the question is like, how late in the, how late in the year can Miller drop out? Because I should be clear here, I
Emma Vigeland
don't think he can. Right. You know, I think that's part of why they're clinging to him. Right. Is that not the case?
Sam Cedar
I don't know, but I should be honest.
Emma Vigeland
Oh, my God. By August 5th at 4pm, that's the deadline tomorrow.
Unidentified Commentator
In less than 24 hours.
Emma Vigeland
There you go.
Sam Cedar
Let me say this. I think Max Miller, you know, I don't. I don't know. All of these are allegations. I can't really judge. But even if I didn't know these allegations, I'd say, Max Miller, he's a shit. Bernie Marino, he's a shit. All of them are bad people. And I hope that John Thune being the profile and cowardice that he was in that moment keeps Max Miller in the race and that they lose this race and that the whole thing becomes just more of a cover up and more of an indication and built into the narrative of how corrupt all these people are. So I'd be lying if I didn't
Unidentified Commentator
say,
Sam Cedar
I mean, good on you. This is exactly the type of thing that I think is helpful for the country.
Emma Vigeland
Yes, agreed.
Unidentified Commentator
True face of Republican Party.
Sam Cedar
Yeah. And the only thing I would add is that I hope Husted gets pulled into this and he also says the wrong thing, which I think it's like,
Unidentified Commentator
we're gonna find out. Max Miller's his nephew.
Sam Cedar
Exactly. Max Miller is my son. All right, what do we got going on? Should we have a little bit of
Unidentified Commentator
fun about this reflecting pool?
Emma Vigeland
Yes. I have been quite enjoying this story of the feud between Jeanine Pirro and Donald Trump.
Sam Cedar
Oh, I feel like every time I hear Jeanine Pirro's name, I should get refill my glass.
Emma Vigeland
Well, I've got, I've got the wine. I've got the wine in here for us. Although I think she probably prefers something stronger.
Sam Cedar
Drinking a wine out of a coffee mug and a straw I think captures Jeanine Puro in a way that nothing else could.
Emma Vigeland
You know what, girl? I mean, salute, because your days might be numbered. Yeah, she's going to need it. And it's because she didn't deliver on the indictment of the Olympian who clearly, clearly was interfering with the lining of the reflecting pool. The canoeist was. It was subterfuge.
Unidentified Commentator
Can I just say, like, I would have loved to have been in the room when they're like, yeah, we got somebody under arrest for this reflecting pool thing. And then they found out it wasn't Olympian.
Emma Vigeland
Yes. So good. And so she came out super strong with her indictment and they didn't have the evidence to support it, shockingly. And so there was an eyewitness that Basically said, no, he didn't interfere with the reflecting pool. They came out.
Sam Cedar
They came out, believe it.
Emma Vigeland
With some explanation to appease Trump. Blaming the Department of the Interior. So passing the buck as well. But also to the contractor and saying it was the contractor's fault for doing it hastily. And we've shown that contractor before. The guy that looks like the undertaker caretaker.
Sam Cedar
I may have to give him another 14 million.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah. So.
Unidentified Commentator
And also the video of them driving in the emptied out one in the motorcade going back and forth heavily.
Sam Cedar
I don't care if it's not dry. I want to drive over it.
Emma Vigeland
I don't know if there's a news story that's made me laugh harder, I guess since Haley Stevens is like the ballrooms. The ballrooms. But this might be fun here to me because of the involvement of Jeanine Pirro and because she's been such a loyal soldier for so long. Long. And that she's being humiliated in this way. It really is wonderful.
Unidentified Commentator
Here's a news story on it.
Emma Vigeland
Yes. Before we get to Trump, President Trump is criticizing the Justice Department's decision to drop vandalism charges against former Olympian David Hearn in connection with damage to the reflecting pool.
Sam Cedar
Pause it. You know, because Olympians are typically so anti American.
Unidentified Commentator
Right? Exactly.
Sam Cedar
They're known for it, these guys. The way they suck the national spirit out of us so that they can succeed in bobsledding or whatever it is. It's disgusting. Thank God we are holding these Olympians to account.
Unidentified Commentator
I know.
Is there a nun? Not a nun. An Olympian and an astronaut.
Sam Cedar
Exactly. The cowboy that we arrested at the.
Emma Vigeland
Is criticizing the Justice Department's decision to drop vandalism charges against former Olympian David Heard in connection with damage to the reflecting pool in Washington D.C. u.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro says newly uncovered evidence points to a faulty contractor installation and not vandalism as the cause of that death.
Sam Cedar
Pause it for a second. Newly uncovered. Who is obfuscating this evidence? New camera.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah.
We broke this case wide open. It's the person you last expect.
Sam Cedar
We put our top agents on this and we found out that the reflecting pool was done shittily.
Unidentified Commentator
Turns out it's the guy with the
Sam Cedar
cigar out in the ballroom.
Emma Vigeland
Do we have installation and not vandal?
Unidentified Commentator
Hold on.
Sam Cedar
There's a Deep Throat situation here. It was the contractor. Look to the quality of the paint. They put that guy.
Unidentified Commentator
No way. Let's see if I can find this.
Sam Cedar
Here's footage of. Of the presidential. The presidential cars driving over the pool. All I'll say Is look at the camera footage.
Emma Vigeland
Faulty contractor installation and not vandalism as the cause of that damage, making it impossible to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Sam Cedar
Oh, yeah, well, that's a big problem. Pause it. When you have evidence that it was faulty contractors and not somebody actually vandalizing, it makes it harder to prove that they're vandalizing. That's true.
Emma Vigeland
Unfortunately, this guy was the one that we showed was the guy that got the cleaning contract, so it's not as applicable.
Unidentified Commentator
Okay.
Yeah.
So very funny.
That's what the Olympian went undercover. It was happen as a contractor the
Emma Vigeland
deep state, not vandalism as the cause of that damage, making it impossible to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. But just a month ago, Pirro was confident in her prosecution.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
The evidence shows, and we will prove
Sam Robinson
beyond a reasonable doubt that she's performing
Unidentified Commentator
for one person in the entire world with it.
Emma Vigeland
I know.
Sam Cedar
Beyond a reasonable doubt. I don't think so. Willfully destroyed property at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Unidentified Commentator
That's right.
Emma Vigeland
The President now says he disagrees with this recent decision. Attorneys for David Hearn, who had pleaded not guilty to felony destruction of property charge, are now calling for an apology from the Trump administration.
Sam Cedar
I don't like that at all. Here's Donald Trump. He's not happy about this.
Emma Vigeland
This is him talking about Jeanine Pirro
Sam Cedar
because the judge was extremely unfriendly to Jeanine and frankly, I think she choked because the judge was really vicious. Instead of going after the people that did it, the judge went after her and went after her department and I guess she choked. I don't know what the hell happened. Are you reconsidering her role? I don't know what you don't.
Bernie Moreno
You're fake news.
Emma Vigeland
Don't.
Sam Cedar
Don't ever talk again. You're fake news. One of the worst of the business. Fortunately, nobody watches you. But something happened. It was Van, because he's so mad.
Unidentified Commentator
The only time he's like activated and
Sam Cedar
alive, he is so mad. So don't you ever talk again. Don't ever talk again. Don't ever.
Emma Vigeland
Can we put up the tear sheet? Because I did really love this truth of his.
Sam Cedar
I'm so mad.
Unidentified Commentator
So does the Wall street get access to this truth social before anybody else?
Emma Vigeland
Which, by the way, that that whole thing is just so you can insider trade. Of course, when he tweets them in the.
Sam Cedar
No, I mean, of course it is front running the market. I mean, honestly, like, if I. The one piece of financial advice I would give people. If you had $800,000. Spend $100,000. Get that early access, and you place one bet on what he says, and that'.
Emma Vigeland
Yes. So here's Trump.
Sam Cedar
Oh, we gotta get Saul in here. I know, like an AI. Saul. I disagree 100% with Janae Pirro, the US Attorney for the District of Columbia. For now on the reflecting pool. I don't know what she was thinking. He didn't write this to me. It was a pure case of. Of vandalism that included the grass, which had been a big. Which had a big 86 47.
Unidentified Commentator
Oh, James Comey's been there.
Sam Cedar
Again, James. Kevin's been there. Emblazoned in giant letters on it and other elements surrounding area.
Emma Vigeland
So he's saying there were crop circles with 8647 on the reflecting pool lawn. Got it. This is the most powerful man on the planet.
Sam Cedar
There may have been some contracted difficulty, but the major damage was caused by vandals.
Unidentified Commentator
Are we sure that wasn't the. The other guy and not Noah Lyles? Because that is on the turf there, so.
Sam Cedar
Oh, yeah,
Emma Vigeland
there we go.
Unidentified Commentator
Think Trump's ever said emblazoned?
Sam Cedar
Emblazoned?
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, that was. That's maybe Chat. Chatgpt.
Unidentified Commentator
That's my 86 47. I don't remember this story, but I don't particularly care, to be honest.
Emma Vigeland
Well, Jeanine Pirro was spotted leaving the White House in disgrace. We just have a short story.
Sam Cedar
She had some big white. White box. Was that, like, all evidence or that was, like, family picture.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
Here's my globe.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
Here's like, all the.
Emma Vigeland
Yes, yes. They played this on CNN last night. Yes. So, and. And Kaitlan Collins, who's on top of this, was saying that this was highly unusual, which is. Whatever. Interesting.
Sam Cedar
I wonder if she's honestly moving out with all her stuff.
Emma Vigeland
It would be nice. Oh, God. Bye.
Bernie Moreno
Bye.
Sam Cedar
It's a box of files that also includes my little tiny cactus and my.
Unidentified Commentator
About a half dozen empties.
John from San Antonio
My.
Unidentified Commentator
Hang in there poster.
Emma Vigeland
She's collecting the bottles. Okay. For a decorative thing she's doing in her apartment. Apartment.
Sam Cedar
And 27 tequila bottles.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, right.
Unidentified Commentator
And somehow the DOJ got less drunk than a wet bed.
Emma Vigeland
I love that story.
Sam Cedar
Let's turn to what's going on.
Emma Vigeland
We have Kornacki.
Sam Cedar
We have Kornacki, but I'm just now looking. I just turned on and I. Van Jones. I don't like if there was a way to block words. So with Dan Jones on any social media.
Unidentified Commentator
Okay.
Emma Vigeland
He won.
Sam Cedar
Bell won.
Emma Vigeland
No, no, he's Gonna be heavily favored in early voting, but that's a very bad sign.
Sam Cedar
All right, let's pop this up here and see what we're at.
Emma Vigeland
Let's go to live
Unidentified Commentator
in the Democratic primary continues to be an extremely close race. Right here, Ethan Corson, less than a thousand votes behind Cindy Holscher. We've got. Okay, this is where Kansas City, the city of Kansas City, Kansas, is the place where the Chiefs are going to be playing starting in 2030.
Sam Cedar
I don't know if I have a candidate.
Unidentified Commentator
I just want one who's going to win. Leavenworth. That small. But again, it does just catch my eye that when you're getting out to the bigger population places outside of the immediate Kansas City area, even you're getting to Lawrence, the college town here. You know, Holsher is leading there. But again, this is statewide. This is 921 votes. We got Michigan. Yeah. We have more vote out of Washtenaw. I think we have, you know, we have about three quarters of the election day vote.
Sam Cedar
Oh, isn't Washtenaw the county?
Nathan Robinson
Oh, wow.
Unidentified Commentator
Okay. So when we last checked in, this was sitting a little bit north of this. So what did the most recent vote look like? So the most recent batch,
like I
said, I think it was mostly election day. I'm just loading it up right now. El Sayed wins it, 66 to 31, basically.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Okay.
Unidentified Commentator
It was all election day vote, primarily. There was some other mix in there. But remember earlier I mentioned some of those counties or some of those precincts in Ann Arbor and Ypsilantia that had zeros, those now have numbers. So we're just filling in. We're getting election day votes from Ann Arbor in here. Yes. And how much actual just mail do we have our current estimate for just mail? Let me take a look.
Sam Cedar
I like this. They seem to be, like constructing this like we do. And they work for NBC.
Unidentified Commentator
Takes us to 5%.
Sam Cedar
I saw that Kornacki is a teetotaler, though.
Unidentified Commentator
What you're looking at right there? These. Oh, we got some samples. Saginaw. Okay. It's only a couple hundred votes here.
Emma Vigeland
I saw that. There's one precinct in Ann arbor that has 100% Abdul Aladdin.
Unidentified Commentator
Let's lose sight of Saginaw because that becomes significant as we get more right there. But let's go back to Washington. It's 16% of our estimated mail vote. 16% of the vote by mail. And what share of the election day vote estimated is in? 77%. Okay, so the one thing you Would say, is this by vote type here? What's counted so far is much more from the Al said side favorable type of vote than it is from the Stevens type of vote. So, you know, she was running at about 28% when we got that first batch in again with election day vote, which is not her best. She popped that up to 30. She needs big numbers in vote by mail. Again, we showed you the past establishment candidates in this county have been in the mid-40s. She just got it up to 30.0%. There is a fair amount of vote by mail to come right there. And I think that's the big question, Adam. It's really not just more vote in Washtenaw, but you know, when we get vote by mail, if that number, if it's coming in at some kind of a rate, that's going to move that needle for Steven. That's Washtenaw. We did get another report out of Eaton. We're now half in Eaton overall. Okay, and now this. Okay, now Stevens has moved up a bit here. Did we just get some vote by mail? Yeah, she won this most recent batch. I'm trying to take a look. Let's see what we can see.
Sam Cedar
Karnakis, it looks like.
Unidentified Commentator
Yes.
This is mostly male.
Sam Cedar
These guys like, these guys are worse than us.
Unidentified Commentator
Vote in Eaton County. We can go deep here because we
Sam Cedar
need K. Dude, we need you to
Unidentified Commentator
pick up your game of the expected vote.
Sam Cedar
We got to go to MD how
Unidentified Commentator
much has been counting?
Emma Vigeland
Well, I mean. Oh, no. Do you have it at least Save for later.
Unidentified Commentator
I see.
Sam Cedar
What
Unidentified Commentator
right now?
Emma Vigeland
Genuinely concerned.
Unidentified Commentator
24%.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Okay.
Unidentified Commentator
About a quarter of these.
Emma Vigeland
Well, if we want to send something in our chat that might tide us over. You mentioned Van Jones. Apparently he's having a meltdown on CNN right now about aipac. Shocker. The criticism from the Democratic electorate about the pro genocide money in our primaries trying to buy our elections.
Sam Cedar
You know what I would like to do? I feel like we're probably maybe, I don't know, 6 12, 18 months out from this, but we should take the commentariat and to be fair, we should be involved in something like that and we should be put into coliseums where just like a cross section of people. I'm sure there's a way to do this mathematically get to vote whether, you know, lying or no. Lion.
Emma Vigeland
Right.
Sam Cedar
Because increasingly I'm convinced that Van Jones has no constituency, that he is representative of nobody's opinion except for some very, very wealthy people. People forget he got, what was it, $100 million he was given a grant. Was it by Gates? This is like two or three years ago. And it's not to go to him, it's for him to distribute. But think about what it takes to convince somebody.
Unidentified Commentator
Bezos.
Sam Cedar
Oh, Bezos.
Unidentified Commentator
Hundred million dollar unrestricted grant through the inaugural Courage and Civility Award.
Emma Vigeland
And I wonder, courageous.
Sam Cedar
I wonder how unrestricted that is. Well, and I wonder if you are a social entrepreneur like Van Jones, if you think, where's the best place for me to donate this money that it has the most opportunity to return to me. You know, they say if you love something, let it go. And if it comes back. If it doesn't. If it comes back. It was, you know, meant to be.
John from San Antonio
Be.
Emma Vigeland
I suspect what a romantic you are.
Sam Cedar
I. I suspect he. He calculated. How can I make sure this money loves me in a way.
Emma Vigeland
He's wearing the Robert Kraft pin, right? The Stop Anti Semitism pin.
Unidentified Commentator
Oh, yeah.
It's also known as the Robert Kraft pin.
Well, if Emma's talking in front of Sam, it is.
Sam Cedar
I didn't know Robert Kraft was.
Emma Vigeland
You just gave me a death glare.
Unidentified Commentator
I mean, what's more wearing an Epstein pen.
Emma Vigeland
Look, I've got no leg to stand. I've got Mara and I've got no leg to. To stand on because of Dolan. So we're all. It's all equal opportunity. But I am pointing out that that is Robert Kraft Zionist organization. And it might be interesting to look into the fact if he has any affiliation with them, is that disclosed on cnn or any of these consultants that go on there that attack leftist candidates who would damage their pocketbook and not allow them to get these like hefty media consulting buys and commissions. Like is that ever.
Unidentified Commentator
You're not allowed to wear pins your friends give you now.
Emma Vigeland
It's just amazing. I know Democratic based voters want.
Unidentified Commentator
Okay, Van Jones, what are the stakes here for Democrats?
Emma Vigeland
The entire consultant consultant class. That's interesting.
Unidentified Commentator
Okay, Van Jones, what are the stakes here for Democrats?
Sam Cedar
Look, this is.
Unidentified Commentator
This is the whole ball of wax. I'm from Jackson, Tennessee. There was a guy named Gil Scott Heron who had a great poem called the Revolution will not be Televised. Gil Scott Heron is wrong. The revolution is being televised and podcast and streamed and elected.
He thinks this is something more sad.
He's a moron. Holy crap.
It's because.
Bernie Moreno
I mean.
Unidentified Commentator
Sorry, sorry. I just have to say, like this is actually very good proof of Gil Scott Heron's revolution. Will happy tail buzz? Because guess what? Haley Stevens was relying on you idiots on cable and all the ad buys that they did. And she wasn't out in the actual community, whereas Abdul said was like that. That's where the difference we're seeing. You can obsess with the podcast.
Sam Cedar
I mean, sorry, you know, but the point being is that not only is he horrible in a myriad of ways, one of them is not understanding a seminal song.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah. Gil Scott's not warning that the revolution is gonna happen on tv.
Sam Cedar
Hey, TV guys, heads up.
Unidentified Commentator
Actually, Gil Scott Heron was wrong. Like, you should know.
Emma Vigeland
Like, is this van saying, I'm a revolutionary?
Unidentified Commentator
You think Gil Scott Haran was wrong? All the kids like TikTok.
Sam Cedar
It is his way of saying, like, I'm familiar with what's going on in the revolutionary sect.
Unidentified Commentator
1971.
Emma Vigeland
This must work in rooms with donors all the time. That's the cool guy.
Sam Cedar
That is exactly it. It is just like, that's the cool guy. This is, in the analogy with showbiz is also just. I mean, it's all showbiz. It's sales. This is sales. And a certain part of showbiz is also sales. Like, you know, Pauly Shore walks into the room and he's just like, hey, guys, I'm going to get to the you.
Emma Vigeland
And it's hard to describe, but when you go in those rooms and you're someone that cares about politics, you can sense that nobody else cares about it and they care about sales.
Sam Cedar
I mean, it's just because most people have no fucking clue. And you've got really wealthy people with no fucking clue. And all they're looking for is the person who seems to have the confidence in what they're saying. And that's it. And he walks into that room, he has that confidence. He regurgitates back to them what they are in place. It's almost like the mentalists who are going around now who read people and then they just feed back.
Emma Vigeland
Or it's like these therapists that specifically have really wealthy clientele and you find out that it's just because they're affirming all of their worst impulses. I mean, that's literally who I was thinking of. Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
Gil Scott hearing is wrong. The revolution is being televised and podcast and streamed and elected tonight. Why is that? It's because there is a credibility gap that's opened up between the Democratic Party establishment and this insurgency. People are looking at people and they're saying, you've been telling us the same thing for a long time and our lives are not even better. We got Donald Trump twice. There's also an Innovation gap. Why can you spend $60 million and get whooped like this? Because the old model, the genocide that you support the donors to get the consultants to buy a bunch of ads and you win. That's how you get attention. This movement says, I don't need donors, ads, I don't need consultants. I'm going right to the people with TikTok grassroots and they've disintermediated the entire donor class, disintermediated the entire consulting class. And this is a revolution. And so this is going to happen again and again. The Democratic Party is now blockbuster. These kids are Netflix. We are selling CDs out the trunk. This is Napster becoming Spotify and it's happening tonight.
Emma Vigeland
So okay, we are selling CDs out the trunk. Is he referring to himself there? Because if the CDs are.
Sam Cedar
I think he is explicitly saying said we okay there.
Emma Vigeland
I just, it was hard to follow what the hell he was talking about. But like, I mean that is him at least having a modicum of self awareness, which I was not expecting that. Yeah, the CDs aka the Slaughter of children that you've been selling to people that you made a punchline on. Bill Maher is not necessarily the brand that people want to associate with. Yeah, that's the problem.
Sam Cedar
I mean his analysis I think in some respects is correct. I mean it's also sort of the low hanging fruit they're losing. And he's also. What you're looking at is the retreat position, which is they're more hit hip to the media. I mean, it's innovation gap. I'm sorry, he's moving, right? Innovation, like organizing on the ground, that's a new innovation. Whoa, where did that come from? But the argument is you could almost see the sales pitch. This is the way they do it, right? They tell you you smell. Fortunately, I have some new deodorant that I'm selling. He's literally doing that on tv.
Emma Vigeland
And you know what? But, but also, you know who was ahead on digital? Who we just had on the show AOC in 2018, all those squad members, they were ahead on digital app on digital communication. And now everybody in the establishment's like, how can we get some digital communication? And the squad and the left is trying to make inroads on traditional media, but they're to it. It's gone.
Sam Cedar
But it's not a delivery mechanism.
Emma Vigeland
Of course.
Sam Cedar
But if he makes it, if he makes it, like the problem is we're being out tacticaled. If we, if he makes it about Tactics, then he has a product to sell. Whoever it is is the buyer. We don't know who the buyer is.
Unidentified Commentator
Exactly.
Emma Vigeland
Right.
Sam Cedar
But all he's doing is setting up. I mean, literally. And people should understand this. And it even happens on this level. The consultants, the people who get hired to do PR and promotion and work on campaigns, they come on shows like this on cnn, they get jobs on cnn. They come onto shows like this. We generally don't have those type of people very often. But what they're doing is they, they are creating a reel or they are creating a brand or they are creating a narrative that they can then monetize. I don't know who his clients are or whatnot, but that's what's going on there with that. So he could say, like, look, the real problem is Gaza. Like, it's quite clear. I mean, look, look, it is quite clear. Regardless of what your position is on this, I imagine most people agree with here, but I'm just trying to be. Regardless of what your position is, it is quite clear that the Democratic primary voter has basically said this is a litmus test, if you want to call it a litmus test or just simply like a measure of character or a. Just a will I answer the door when you knock test is our role as a country relative to what's going on in Israel and Gaza, in west bank and Israel and the Palestinians and Israeli, etc. And he can't say that because I suspect a lot of his money comes from those people. So instead he says there's actually another solution.
Emma Vigeland
Well, I wonder if, I wonder if he saw this on the broadcast. This is just a short clip, including some, some interviews with voters in Michigan, including one voter that says, I'm not voting for anybody who takes money from aipac.
Unidentified Commentator
I don't want somebody in somebody else's pocket that they have to agree to what they want to.
Sam Cedar
You know, too many people like that in politics.
Unidentified Commentator
Abdul.
And why is that?
Sam Cedar
Because he doesn't take money from aipac.
Unidentified Commentator
I'm not voting for anybody who takes money from aipac.
Sam Cedar
And why is that? Because the money should be spent here, not over there. Overall change in people who had an independent view and thought process of what's right for the voters, not what's right for corporate PACs or what's right for any affiliations that support them.
Emma Vigeland
So there you go.
Unidentified Commentator
This ain't going anywhere. Even if Abdul wins this primary and loses it in the general, I understand why people are afraid of that. And the centrists will love that opportunity to use it. But the fundamentals are way too strong for that. This stuff ain't going anywhere.
Sam Cedar
I have a natural sort of allergy to being that confident. But if I had to bet, I would bet you're right. There's a clear trajectory that's happening, and whether it can overcome in the short term, the forces aligned to it is one question. But in terms of where the trajectory is going, that's a completely another question. And what's interesting is, look, look, the amount of money that we give Israel, we've spent almost that amount in attacking Iran in whatever it's been three months. Traditionally, foreign aid, regardless of what kind it is in terms of math, is a very small portion of our budget budget. We've given Israel probably in total not even a third of what we spend annually on our own military budget. And I mean, over the course of 75 years. But the construct of let's spend the money here instead of there, it's very effective. It is the best way to communicate that to people, even though the reality is we should not be giving them money, because you can go from it's not in our national interest all the way through all the morality associated with it.
Emma Vigeland
I mean, it's, I think, two points. I keep referencing it, but it was a very illuminating interview for me at least, from aoc, where she said, you have to be making three or arguments at the same time about any political issue. You have to make an economic argument, you have to make a political argument, and then the moral argument. So you can make all three for those. Yep. And then also it's like, what undercuts their source of political power with their base. And I still think that they gestured towards some sort of populism with the Doge cuts about, you know, whatever transition plays in Somalia or whatever the hell they were talking about. But, like, essentially the construct of the argument was we shouldn't be spending money overseas and we should be spending it here. This undercuts that in a substantive way that isn't a lie. Like Trump lied to get into power. No new wars. I'll fix the economy. He started the worst war and ruined the economy. And how Abdul has approached this particular issue. It also defanged some of the Islamophobic attacks against him. When he says that it's like, no foreign aid in general, like, we should be spending it here. He mentions Egypt, which is also a country that's complicit in the genocide in Gaza, and that's, you know, his ethnicity as well, so.
Sam Cedar
And also A country that happens to be the second largest recipient of U.S. aid.
Emma Vigeland
And ask the question why? And it's because on the other side of the Gaza border in the southwest.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yep.
Emma Vigeland
There's, there's Egypt and the Canal, of course, but there we go. So we now are past nine. So we've. Polls are closed officially in Michigan.
Sam Cedar
Kornacki's got his shit together or maybe entity. Yes. God, dude, how can we.
Unidentified Commentator
By mail. Tends to be older. Tends to older voters. Tends to be more establishment friendly.
Sam Cedar
It tends to be she's got to win big here.
Unidentified Commentator
What we're seeing in other counties around the state tonight. She does her best.
Emma Vigeland
She needs a lot in early voting in Oakland county and they're basically tied.
Unidentified Commentator
They already called the Bell Bush with
this big bag, but I would say it's only a two point advantage with what we think is sort of Leslie Bell crush. Cory well, Election day vote, folks who went to the polls and voted in person today. And what we've been seeing throughout the rest of Michigan tonight, and what we've been seeing across this primary season is that election day vote tends to be younger, younger voters, more progressive voters. The fuel for these sort of left wing candidacies that have won in these Democratic Party primaries has come in that election day vote, meaning that's the vote. We've seen it across Michigan so far. It's more friendly to Al Said. And so Stevens, this is a county. This isn't just any County. There's 83 on the map. This is one of paramount importance to her. She has to win Oakland county tonight. She has to win it by, I'd say, a substantial margin. She leads by 2 points with 60% of the vote in. But is that remaining vote that's going to be coming in here is the election day vote. That's as pro Al said as we've been seeing elsewhere. The opportunity for him to pass her here and for her not to get that kind of number she needs out of Oakland, I think is very real because I think that's really been the story that we've seen as I zoom back out here and look at the statewide total, 17% right now. Al said with that eight point advantage, he has been absolutely cleaning up with the election day. Stevens has been holding her own with the vote by mail. Some of these big counties that have reported, you know, a place like this right here, decent sized Eaton county, decent sized Livingston county, exurbs of Detroit right here. We do think the Stevens number might improve as that absentee vote comes in. That vote by mail comes in right now. Oh, and we just got. I just see some more Saginaw. I thought there might be a little bit more there. I apologize for that. But the bottom line is that Oakland number. Well, now it is higher for Stevens than it is for Al Said. Is it as high as Stevens wants it to be? Yeah.
Emma Vigeland
So, Steve, you know, and I've been talking to folks with the Al Said campaign, to your point, they have been laser focused on this same day vote, specifically looking at younger voters, African American voters. So take us inside some of the counties where those votes are reflected. Wayne County, I know, slow to vote. We're probably not going to get that
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
for a little while.
Emma Vigeland
But what are you seeing so far? Any indication about those two constituencies?
Unidentified Commentator
Well, yeah, Wayne county, where we have very little. There's a little bit here from the city of Detroit that's come in right now. That's the one hope, I think, for Stevens in Wayne county, where we have seen in polls that she's been doing better than El Sayed with black voters. The city of Detroit is 75% black. It is in Wayne County. It's not all of Wayne County. There are other parts of Wayne county that I think are very fertile ground for El Sayed. But the opportunity there for Stevens, if she really is getting a big number among black voters, you would really see that in Detroit and that could help her there in Wayne County. But you ask too, about younger voters. And take a look next door in Washtenaw County. This is Ann Arbor. This is the University of Michigan. I keep saying University of Michigan. This is also Eastern Michigan University. I don't want to leave them out. But Al said here, look at this. Up nearly 40 points in Washtenaw County. And I think this one significant. This is a big piece of the puzzle, too. It's a little bit more than 5% of all the votes cast statewide are going to come out of Washtenaw County. And this is the kind of place where, if you're Stevens, I think you knew going into the night you were not going to win Washtenaw county because of what we're talking about. College, young, all of that sort of thing. But you want to hold your own, you need to tread water. You need to be running at like 45%, 44% other candidates who are sort of like establishment candidates in Democratic primaries in Michigan who've been successful. That's what they've done in Washtenaw county. She's barely breaking 30% right there. And there's still a lot there Left in Washtenaw County. That could be very friendly to Al Said. So that's, you know, between what we just showed you in Oakland county and what you're seeing there in Washtenaw County. We haven't really even touched Wayne yet because we don't have much. But those, you know, those numbers, if you're Stevens, I think in both places, you might be looking for a bigger number than you're seeing right now.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
All right.
Emma Vigeland
Steve, do not go far. We're, of course, going to come back to you. You every few minutes.
Unidentified Commentator
Every minute.
Sam Cedar
Where's he gonna go? He's not gonna go anywhere. Nobody cares about you guys saying, okay,
Unidentified Commentator
so there you go. You see how that works? That was great. And I think you. So you saw the moment, right? I mean, look at that.
Sam Cedar
Did he do that? What did they do? They just said, don't go away, and then they cut back.
Unidentified Commentator
But.
But this is something.
Sam Cedar
We don't need to talk to him.
Unidentified Commentator
Yes.
Emma Vigeland
Okay, I'm here in a sec.
Sam Cedar
We have some breaking bad news. The race has been called. I'm not sure by which media. Cori Bush has lost to Wesley Bell.
Unidentified Commentator
You know, called here on cnn.
Emma Vigeland
I'm seeing it everywhere.
Sam Cedar
That was a very strange race. It was very quiet.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah.
Emma Vigeland
And, you know, we had heard issues about Bush's constituent services in the last cycle, and that problem seemed to persist.
Unidentified Commentator
So.
Sam Cedar
And in the squad. I know Talib endorsed her.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
And I don't know if Ilhan Omar did.
Emma Vigeland
I'm not sure.
Sam Cedar
And I'm not sure the rest of
Emma Vigeland
the squad, I mean, AOC is stated that largely out of the House in general.
Sam Cedar
Yes.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah. Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
I mean, I've worried. There's other races where it's like, why isn't this candidate getting more of the support from national figures? And you wonder if just the internals, they're like, we can't waste it on this. It's such an uphill battle. I mean, the constituent servicing doesn't answer the question of, like, why Wesley Bell is so popular there, despite his. I would question it on the criminal justice thing and his time as a prosecutor, but also just the Israel stuff. He's bought and paid for Israel shill. And it doesn't have the salience in that district like it does in so many others.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah. Perhaps he has, like, better local connections. That would make sense.
Unidentified Commentator
I mean, campaign manager got outed for having a veiled profit connection.
Sam Cedar
Yeah. I mean, I mean, but also, we should be clear. I mean, I mean, look, there's none of this is. There's no one answer. And so there could be weakness in her candidacy, weakness that she exhibited locally as a congressperson. And then to the extent that there was interest in her candidacy, that's where the money makes a difference. You know, there's not going to be a time where the existence of that money necessarily means that they're going to lose.
Emma Vigeland
Right.
Sam Cedar
I mean, the money is very powerful. I mean, that's what makes Said's victory,
Emma Vigeland
which we don't know yet.
Sam Cedar
But frankly, I've seen enough.
Emma Vigeland
Okay.
Sam Cedar
I mean, I mean, there's nowhere. She's winning. She's winning by 1% in Oakland county, which. Where she needs to rack up the votes.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, no, I hear you. I'm just. I can't.
Sam Cedar
But. Okay, that's fine. But he's going to be 6, 30 to 60 million dollars. It's just. That's not going to happen every time. That's just not going to. When we get out two years, four years, six years, eight years, as the institutions that help the organizing grow, the money is going to become less and less relevant. But in the main, when you see that kind of money, you should go, we got a problem. And that's clearly what happened with, you know, the, the Bell and Bush race. Bush may not be
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
your.
Sam Cedar
Her issue set may be great. She as a candidate and perhaps as a legislator. I don't know. I mean, she did some very brave
Emma Vigeland
things, but the eviction moratorium, I think, doesn't get talked about enough.
Sam Cedar
Yes. And her, you know, basically sleeping on the steps of the Capitol, and I
Unidentified Commentator
can't believe she's still having to answer questions about why she didn't support the bipartisan infrastructure bill when in fact she wanted the bbb.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, of course, but I mean, that's a hard thing. I mean, I would say even our audience, as you say that 60% of our audience doesn't immediately know what you're talking about. Thinking about it, there's still going to be 30, 40% have no idea. That's a hard thing to communicate.
Emma Vigeland
And I don't know what level of child poverty is in that district. Could that have been more of a pronounced impact when the money gets cut off? When the money gets cut off. And then she gets blamed. Even if there's not.
Sam Cedar
Even if that's not legit. Yeah, I mean, I mean, here's the thing that, like, aoc, I think, fundamentally really understands. And having spent just the summer in a congressman's office in D.C. you get a sense of, like, how locally oriented they are. And you know, AOC spends a lot of time in her district and she focuses on those services. And.
Emma Vigeland
And Ilhan Omar is also very.
Sam Cedar
She's very adept. I mean, she was a politician.
Emma Vigeland
And Summerlee, both, Both came. AOC is an exception. But both Summerlee and Ilhan Omar, in terms of squad members, came out of their state legislatures and they both have reputations as well as AOC for having excellent constituent services.
Sam Cedar
Yep. So that's a tough loss. But, you know, I think there's. There's clearly a formula. I mean, a lot of times, like, you know, over the years, I've said this a couple of times. In the main, we see shadows. We don't actually see what's actually happening. We see shadows which are representative of what's happening and the contours of that are distorted.
Emma Vigeland
Yes.
Sam Cedar
Based upon where the light is. I mean, everybody knows how shadows works.
Emma Vigeland
Right. That's how shadows work.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
Okay.
Sam Cedar
You hesitated for a moment.
Emma Vigeland
I'm sorry. I wasn't completely fixated on what you were saying. I was looking at something else. I'm looking at.
Sam Cedar
You didn't listen.
Emma Vigeland
I was listening to what you're saying.
Sam Cedar
That's fine.
Emma Vigeland
That's never happened to you. You can say, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Sam Cedar
But that the we. What we end up reporting on very often is shadows. And we try and translate what that is. We have no insight as to. Was Cori Bush's constituent services really bad?
Unidentified Commentator
Was.
Sam Cedar
Did other people in Congress feel like, you know, something was amiss in her office? Did she staff poorly? Who knows. But it didn't work out. And it was a quiet race, relatively speaking. I mean, I don't even think we heard from them.
Emma Vigeland
Well, we had her on when you were out.
Sam Cedar
Oh, well, that explains it.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
You're out galavanting around Hollywood.
Sam Cedar
Jesus.
Emma Vigeland
But, you know, we've always also had just so many days politicians on recently. Like, I mean, it's a balance. That's not always how we want to, I think, educate the audience because they all have an agenda and it can be difficult. But it's also this like weighing of we can make an impact in this race.
Unidentified Commentator
It also can be, I think, over emphasized by people who like political media, that the political media will do it. We never heard anything from Hong and she like stormed to victory. We never had her on.
Sam Cedar
I mean, I think we made it early on. I remember people asking us to have her on and I think we made a decision that, like, we're not going to really get involved in Governor's races
Unidentified Commentator
and she still like rocketed. She still got a whole bunch of success despite not much independent media support.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, I was interviewed for, by somebody from Reuters about like, is it. Do you feel like you're, you know, you're rocketing left wing politicians and we're like. I'm like, well, I think it helps when we do it early on so that they can get more sort of volunteers and maybe some fundraising. But like we have a small part to play in a bigger ecosystem. And the point is there's an ecosystem now.
Emma Vigeland
Well, the fact that we have any part to play upsets them. That's why there was the backlash to the, the Platner thing that you largely miss. But like. Yeah, it was. But I mean like they are, they wanted that because that was a misstep and the candidate that obviously had issues and didn't work out that, that, that, that this space was supportive of. Many in the space were supportive of. There were people taking an opportunity to.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, but I mean I don't think this reporter was, was had a ax to grind in that respect. They were just asking in general and the fact is, is like, yeah, we're, we are only as effective as the rest of the ecosystem that exists. Like, we haven't really fundamentally done anything different. I haven't done anything different in 25 years here.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, well, we did upgrade the cameras.
Sam Cedar
We did barely and they're the same cameras. We changed the cable into a different place. But the point being is that there is a, a ecosystem for which like what we provide is helpful, but only because the ecosystem exists. And so the, you know, putting having a lot of politicians on is helpful to the extent that it's helpful. But you know, we're not making or breaking anybody. But we're like.
Emma Vigeland
Oddly, I feel like the most impact I had on any or an interview I did on any race was outside of the show was when I did Matt Bernstein's show with, with Mallory McMoro.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, I mean Sabotage McMoro.
Unidentified Commentator
Now she's only getting 3%.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, I mean she was just, she went completely.
Unidentified Commentator
I don't. Oh yeah, I know which one.
Emma Vigeland
Oh, I knew it was going to be so loud too in my ear.
Sam Cedar
Ain't nothing going to break up my stride. Ain't nothing going to slow me down. That's fantastic.
John from San Antonio
Dang.
Emma Vigeland
Corey.
Unidentified Commentator
Yep.
Lawrence looking pretty good.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
Is Lawrence looking good at least by early vote, earlier results, he's up by temper 10%.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah. He's been like looking so good in early voting or in Polling as well. Well, Lawrence, let's see.
Sam Cedar
So truth from the loose. I phone bank for Corey for DSA St. Louis. I just feel like people don't really like Wesley Bell. But there were a lot of issues that people felt. Corey didn't show up for votes. Not her fault. And some issue about her about giving her husband money. I am sure AIPAC spent their money wisely. Jack, can we get a Michigan fist in honor of Abdul?
Unidentified Commentator
I want the Michigan fist.
Emma Vigeland
Let's save that for a more triumphant moment.
Sam Cedar
Shit break says the cameras. The resolution all look exactly the same on my same TV and same phone.
Emma Vigeland
That's not true.
Sam Cedar
I will tell you.
Emma Vigeland
No, you're wrong.
Sam Cedar
I will tell you.
Emma Vigeland
Gino sent us feedback.
Unidentified Commentator
Sam can't notice.
Sam Cedar
I have the exact same feeling and I think it's now here's my question for you.
Emma Vigeland
We have feedback.
Sam Cedar
Do you wear glasses? Because I go around the world with like a slight film on everything.
Unidentified Commentator
Right.
Emma Vigeland
So you're not equipped to judge the situation.
Sam Cedar
Well, I guess. You know that is really insensitive.
Emma Vigeland
Ableist.
Unidentified Commentator
This is such a point of contention for you.
Emma Vigeland
Because I want it to be right. Matt was right to do what he did to put the camera right.
Unidentified Commentator
Nobody was saying he was wrong.
Emma Vigeland
I to don't want. Want us to go back. I don't want us to go back to the old way.
Sam Cedar
We're going back to the old way.
Emma Vigeland
No, we're not going back to.
Unidentified Commentator
Please.
As he sips his 20 years mug
Sam Cedar
three years later look, it's on 2003.
Emma Vigeland
Check the chat. But noticeably better.
Nathan Robinson
There we go.
Emma Vigeland
Cameras look great. I'm going to keep reading it. There we go. Chat like the stream. How about that?
Sam Cedar
Not the great. Literally looks exact same.
Unidentified Commentator
No.
Emma Vigeland
No, it doesn't. Love the cameras. It's 100% better. Emma made it better. We're not going back. There we go. There's everybody. Everybody gets it.
Sam Cedar
This whole show has been reduced to just like a camera talk.
Emma Vigeland
You brought it on.
Unidentified Commentator
What kind of bull is this?
Sam Cedar
It's like click and clack around here.
Unidentified Commentator
Brad, can you explain what that reference is? Because I've never understood it.
It's car talk from mpr.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, exactly. Two guys from Massachusetts who fix cars.
Emma Vigeland
Jesus Christ.
Unidentified Commentator
It's honestly the greatest radio show that's ever happened.
Sam Cedar
You call in, you're like I got a. I got a 2003 Honda Accord. And when I turn on the engine it starts and they go. Are you pressing the gas? When you press the gas does it sound go louder?
Unidentified Commentator
So it's an NPR show that is now a Reddit.
Right. Well, they. The thing is they would always. After the end of the month, they would do a follow up episode and they were always wrong. And that's what made us my favorite part of the show. They never gave good advice.
Sam Cedar
That's not true.
Unidentified Commentator
It happened a lot.
Sam Cedar
Oh, dude, that's.
Unidentified Commentator
They were MIT graduates. They weren't real blue collar guys.
Sam Cedar
You're 20. Twisted.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Wow.
Unidentified Commentator
They were just upper crust liars.
Sam Cedar
No, you're twisted. It's not true. I won't believe.
Unidentified Commentator
But I love. I love them.
Sam Cedar
No, I won't believe it. You are not a New Yorker.
John from San Antonio
You have no clue.
Emma Vigeland
New England classified.
Unidentified Commentator
Exactly. One of us has never been to Mathis Vineyard. Okay,
Sam Cedar
listen, I've been to Hampton Beach. I've been to. I've been to Old Orchard.
Emma Vigeland
All right, all right.
Unidentified Commentator
What?
Sam Cedar
They were talking about people calling. Not gonna.
Unidentified Commentator
I'm not gonna look at the comments. I'm sure I'm getting hammered for saying they were liars.
Sam Cedar
Not gonna disparage click and clack. No way. They were great. They knew exactly what they were talking about.
Emma Vigeland
Good.
Sam Cedar
Oh my God, that's so right. Click and clacks. And we're always diagnosing a Honda Accord car talk. Let's go. I had an NPR dad. You guys need to run or beneath of your IMs about the camera quality.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Whoa.
Sam Cedar
Click and clack. Slander. Yeah, everybody's on my side.
Unidentified Commentator
I'm sure they are. Oh, nobody takes that.
Sam Cedar
Shut the young kid up. I repaired at least a dozen cars using their advice. Art Vandalay. Brian has never been more wrong. It's called the stump at the chumps. And they were right all the time.
Unidentified Commentator
They were wrong all the time. I mean, I know what stump the chumps is.
Sam Cedar
Dude, look at this. Look at the spitball idea. Insane slander against the Tapit brothers. Please punish that man. As a guy who is focusing so much of my effort on ending human suffering on the planet Earth.
Emma Vigeland
God, it's so self aggrandizing. It's unbelievable.
Sam Cedar
Eric's Trump plug as a New Hampshire. Her Hampton beach is disgusting.
Unidentified Commentator
All right.
John from San Antonio
Okay.
Unidentified Commentator
Abdul's still up.
Emma Vigeland
You got it out of your system?
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, I have a. I'm holding, I'm biting.
Sam Cedar
Hold on, hold on.
Emma Vigeland
It's too early to call.
Sam Cedar
Mike Rogers is the projected 1 winner of the Republican primary for the Senate. Nobody challenged Mark Warner.
Emma Vigeland
El Sayed is up by eight points. He's gonna win, dude. We'll see. And you know he's gonna win.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Okay.
Unidentified Commentator
And I am in it to win it.
Emma Vigeland
So Stevens is up by three points in Wayne County. That's a county that she needs to do quite well. And we've mentioned that the counties that she needs to run up the numbers in are Wayne County, Oakland and Kent. Right. Kent was the other one.
Unidentified Commentator
Some final numbers on this from Teddy Schiefler. Six outside groups spent $62 million for Steven, giving her a 9 to 1 spending advantage over Abdul. Half of Steven's spend, $32 million came from APAC Super PAC. APAC Super Pack spent more than any other single group in a pro prime. Spent more than any single group has in a federal Democratic primary this cycle. And guess what? They don't care about the general if Stevens wins because they don't. They don't think Rogers or her.
Sam Cedar
What's also I think like even, you know, all that money. But when you look at the mainstream media, how they were coming for Abdul Al Said, it is nuts. Here's a clip. This is clip number 15. Bari Weiss and the CB Zionist, CBS News.
Emma Vigeland
The Ellisons.
Sam Cedar
The Ellisons. This question is so bizarre. I mean, like, look, the crazy thing about this is that there is a cohort of people who are convinced that people are terrified of the word socialist. They are terrified of dsa. That even like implying that people are communist in some way is like some type of like flaming sword that cuts through a everything. And it is. They're wrong. It's just, it is a gross miscalculation which I'm glad happy for them to have. But we saw it with Cuomo, we're seeing it now. This is like the, this is indicative of just how wrong they are. That they're not just wrong in New York City, they're wrong in Michigan.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Michigan.
Sam Cedar
And they think they can just drop this in and look how the. This CBS News guy Abdullah said has been very, very specific. I'm not a member of dsa. He says I am a capitalist. I think our capitalism has gone awry and whatnot. He may have a bunch of policies that are similar to dsa, but he's not a dsa. And let's be honest, the DSA would be perfectly comfortable as a New Deal Democrat 90 years ago.
Emma Vigeland
And that's why they're supporting him and having volunteers go out.
Sam Cedar
Yes. Yeah, but I'm saying like, like the DSA is not terribly radical.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
I mean that's the reality.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
There may be some positions on the platform that are programmed slightly less fdr,
Emma Vigeland
but there's no campaign candidates that are supporting, that are in elected office.
Sam Cedar
The Republican Party has been calling for bat crap, crazy shit for 100 years in their platform. Nobody ever talks about it. These are aspirational goals that may or may not be met, but are used as a way of creating space so that there's, like the Overton Window gets expanded. But the fact that is, Abdullah said if there were no DSA people running this year, it would never come up. But they want to bring it up because they think it's kryptonite, but they're wrong. And so they end up asking questions like this that are completely insane. You are not a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. They did not endorse you. But we know that there are DSA members out there in this state right now campaigning on your behalf, handing out literature for you. This is big time, my friend.
Nathan Robinson
Any concern, though, that they may be
Sam Cedar
misrepresenting you and casting you as one
Unidentified Commentator
of them when you say you're not,
Sam Cedar
you know, I'm sorry, can you just. That is the dumbest thing.
Emma Vigeland
Like the handing out literature is coded. They're trying. I mean, it's just so, so coded.
Sam Cedar
But it's. It is so inept. First off, just for a moment, imagine. Imagine you are interviewing Hillary Clinton in 2016. There are Republicans who are out there campaigning on your behalf.
Emma Vigeland
They're handing out literature.
Sam Cedar
Are you worried that they're misrepresenting you? Like, try claim. She would laugh. Everybody would laugh in the face. You would never, ever, ever, ever ask that question.
Emma Vigeland
But they wouldn't want her to disavow the Republican Party. What they want is for any success that happens electorally, have a very comfortable distance from the Democratic Socialists.
Sam Cedar
Yes. I mean, and so, like, if these DSA people are misrepresenting Abdul Al said and saying, like, we need to have, I don't know, no private enterprise. Sounds like maybe there's a mandate for that.
Emma Vigeland
Also interesting that you bring up Hillary Clinton. That would mean that Abdul has a. Both private and public position on certain issues. One that he's privately communicating to the literature, handing out DSA members and one that he's publicly communicating.
Sam Cedar
But they are so desperate to attach because they think the DSA is kryptonite.
Unidentified Commentator
They think it's like, Zionist.
Sam Cedar
Yes, but it's not.
Unidentified Commentator
Speaking of Hillary Clinton, she was endorsed by the Communist Party USA in 2016. Oh, my God.
Sam Cedar
Is that true?
Unidentified Commentator
That's actually true, yeah.
Sam Cedar
Do you think they were out there misrepresenting her, trying to claim her or they.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, they Thought this better for us.
Sam Cedar
All right, keep playing this.
Emma Vigeland
That's an indictment on them.
Sam Cedar
I also love how they both have smoothies. That's ridiculous.
Emma Vigeland
Hey, I think that might be matcha.
Unidentified Commentator
It's matcha and coffee.
Emma Vigeland
It's matcha.
Unidentified Commentator
Is this Emma over here that there
Sam Cedar
are DSA members out there in this state right now. Can't be campaigning on your behalf handing out literature for you.
Unidentified Commentator
It's a big time, my friend.
Nathan Robinson
Any concern though that they may be
Sam Cedar
misrepresenting you and casting you as one of them when you say you're not? You know it's funny, right? Democrats are so concerned about what other people say about us and I think
Emma Vigeland
we just need to be more concerned
Unidentified Commentator
about what we say about the lives of Michiganders. I want to get money out of politics.
Sam Cedar
Put money in your pocket. Pass Medicare for all if you want to be part of that movement. Whether you voted for Donald Trump three times or you are dsa, come join us.
Unidentified Commentator
You are not a member of the Democrats.
Emma Vigeland
And when he says Democrats are always worried, he's. This is what Zoron is doing very effectively too, is saying we're the true Democrats and you guys are 100 are the fake ones.
Unidentified Commentator
What he's saying there is. Democrats often listen to concerns like the stupid one you just voiced, but I'm here to say they shouldn't.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
The only way I could appreciate him more as if the V neck T shirts weren't.
Emma Vigeland
I knew you're gonna go.
Unidentified Commentator
I know that DV was bothering me.
Emma Vigeland
That's my one critique.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, not huge on those either.
Emma Vigeland
Look, I. I'm all for like a uniform. I have these tank tops in like five different colors and I just cycle them through. But I changed the color.
Sam Cedar
Oh, it's. Believe me, I feel like I'm on very thin ice giving any type of sartorial direction. But I feel feel confident that like
Emma Vigeland
he's found the look that he.
Sam Cedar
Let's go with a crude.
Unidentified Commentator
There's a type of guy who's going to wear a V neck. There's going to be like the captain of the football team type lacrosse team
Emma Vigeland
which is even more V necky.
Unidentified Commentator
I still would have voted for him though if I lived in Michelle.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, that's so brave.
Sam Cedar
No, I probably would probably would do.
Unidentified Commentator
Brian should do like the Hillary Shelton style media tour. It's like we're really concerned about the direction of this V neck.
Emma Vigeland
Brian would prefer to be some Maoist caller.
Unidentified Commentator
Exactly right.
Sam Cedar
You know, folks, it was only. It was only a short. What Was it four years ago, five years ago now when Eric Adams stormed the palace and.
Emma Vigeland
Which palace?
Sam Cedar
Somewhere in Turkey.
Unidentified Commentator
Turkey or Albania?
Sam Cedar
Yeah, exactly. Eric Adams became mayor of this city I think in part because the vote was split to a certain extent and he basically parroted right wing talking points. The crime was out of control. As if we hadn't just come from a literally once in a lifetime pandemic, global pandemic where everyone went batshit crazy. Everyone went batshit crazy. And you had in many respects, like this was, if you were able to tell history and historians are gonna have. Have a field day with this. Guys like Rick Perlstein and if Ryan Grim writes another book, they're going to have a field day with this because you have the ability to reverse engineer and see like where the centrist, ostensibly left of center punditocracy went astray, where they bought like a narrative that was a function of a once in a lifetime, finite era that we went through that most people understood. Like, we don't know where this is going, but we know this era right now is unique and you can't make generalizations about it. We had that guy, that little wormy guy. What was that dude's name? The Social justice warrior or actual.
Unidentified Commentator
Actual justice warriors?
Sam Cedar
Actual justice.
Unidentified Commentator
The Floyd effect guy.
Sam Cedar
And the guy he was on Tim Pool with you.
Emma Vigeland
Right, right.
Sam Cedar
And you know, saying like. And I think we had him on as to debate him about the trajectory of crime. I think he, I think he's quit the business or whatever.
Unidentified Commentator
I don't know if he's still tweeting out there.
Sam Cedar
Is he still out there? Because he's got to be incredibly embarrassing. Embarrassed now because it was like we had a pandemic. Crime was up, but it's going down. We can see the trajectory. And then, I don't know, when we talked to him two years ago, was it crime has gone down like historic levels?
Emma Vigeland
Well, it's because the George Floyd effect has worn off.
Sam Cedar
The George Floyd effect worn up, yeah, of course. And so Eric Adams becomes praised and predicted. I think Nate Silver said, this guy's going to be president in 2020. And the Iglesias type, the, the abundance types really sort of. And you know, it turns out this guy was not just in the pocket of corporate America, he was in a lot of people's pockets. In fact, a lot of people were in his pockets putting all sorts of currencies in his pocket.
Emma Vigeland
They were sometimes putting it in, what was it? A lays bags, potato chip bags. That was when his advisor was caught
Sam Cedar
Taking LA bags in, first class flights in.
Emma Vigeland
Before we had Holman in the Cabba bag, we had the Eric Adams adviser.
Sam Cedar
And this is. I. I honestly like, it's hilarious. You got to wonder, is there a spy? I just watched the Agency, which is a great show, incidentally. And when I see this clip of Eric Adams, I think there's a mole somewhere in the AI data center institution. And they came up with the brilliant idea of a week out from a DSA candidate perhaps becoming governor of Wisconsin, or I should say the Democratic nominee. Hey, let's send somebody out there promoting the one issue that polls like, worse than. Like, do you want that. That explosive diarrhea bacteria, like, that's like
Emma Vigeland
the lead balloon they're gonna drop in your waterway when this is like literally
Sam Cedar
going out there and going like, hey, man, I'm here to tell you, don't wash your lettuce. Here is Eric Adams pitching. Pitching data centers in Wisconsin. My name is eric adams.
Emma Vigeland
No idea where he is.
Sam Cedar
I grew up in the area in Queens. Young man, dyslexic. I'm not high profile.
Unidentified Commentator
The mayor of New York.
Wait a second, he just tried.
Sam Cedar
Why have you been sent to Wisconsin to pitch this if you're not high profile? How did everybody know to boo you just based on your name?
Unidentified Commentator
He framed himself as like a small towner from Queens. Like he said, I'm from a small place in Queens.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, just, just like you would. Just a place. Like, it could be like the third largest city in the country if it was actually its own city. But I mean, dude, they booed you when they heard your name. You're not high profile. Okay, good.
Unidentified Commentator
Please.
Sam Cedar
Young man, dyslexic.
Nathan Robinson
Oh, man.
Emma Vigeland
Profile.
Sam Cedar
Police veteran award. 22 years. Protecting children and families. Children. Here's what we want to do. Pause it for a second. I feel like I need to interject here and tell you that this was a. This was just a community meeting in Grand Rapper Wisconsin. Rappers Wisconsin. This was not a DSA meeting. This was not a, you know, Zoran Mamdani volunteers from Wisconsin meeting. It was just a random group of Wisconsin people who just like, Eric Adams, what the fuck are you doing here?
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, we like came because presumably all those people, maybe some people were there because they love data centers and want to welcome data the community. I assume if anyone's going to a meeting like this, it's because they hate data centers.
Sam Cedar
But also just like somebody paid Eric Adams to go to this. Do you understand?
Unidentified Commentator
Like, connecting flight to Wisconsin Falls.
Sam Cedar
People should understand again, Shadow we are witnessing a level of incompetence and blinkeredness about what's going on on the ground by people whose literally one job is to push back on it. And they send Eric Adams in. Like, this is like Haley Stevens having Richie Torres come in on campaign night and go, like, here's my final argument. Yeah, Richie Torres is here.
Emma Vigeland
Didn't the Kamala campaign literally send Richie Torres?
John from San Antonio
Yes.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Michigan.
Sam Cedar
Yes. Yeah, let's just play this out. But this is. People should understand. Like, and. And I would also. I would also offer this warning. They're not going to be this bad at this forever. Forever.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
They're going to. They're going to adapt and adjust and get sharper. So don't get overconfident, but relish this moment at least. Your questions.
Nathan Robinson
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
Yeah. How about this? What the fuck are you doing here? Yeah, I like the idea. Nobody in Wisconsin, I should say, is probably rude enough to say that, but if they sent the Eric Adams version from Wisconsin to Queens, that would be the question.
Unidentified Commentator
That's like the Democrats thing of like, when, like, Schumer's like, we need to find out answers about this Iran war, it's like, no, we have our conclusions. We're not here to ask you questions.
Emma Vigeland
Right. Because they also don't trust you to ask the questions. That's the other thing.
Unidentified Commentator
They don't like the questions you're going to ask. They don't like the answers they're going to have. Have to give.
Emma Vigeland
Exactly.
Sam Cedar
That's. That's just amazing.
Emma Vigeland
Apparently, we missed the worst of the. The Van Jones meltdown. So just if you. If we want some filler on that. It was a different clip. It was a different clip.
Unidentified Commentator
I can't get over that Gil Scott Heron stuff, because the revolution that Gil Scott Heron was promoting was one that he wanted to see happen.
Sam Cedar
It's just. I can't write.
Unidentified Commentator
Does he have, like, a handbook that's like, metaphors? Boomers will understand. Really? Rich boomers will understand.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
And it's.
Emma Vigeland
He's been quite successful at that. It's the blockbuster Netflix thing is exactly what a rich boomer would want to hear. An investor. That's who's investing in. Van Jones is. I'm investing in the kind of guy that can communicate these issues.
Sam Cedar
And let's be clear. Like, we're watching evolution, right? Like, it's just like we're watching evolution. A guy like that extinction event, but a guy like that who expresses those things, he just succeeds because it works with the dumbest people that exist. The idea, like whenever you watch Van Jones, the one thing you should walk away, understand understanding, is that rich people aren't necessarily smart. Yeah, they're rich. And what it takes to make money is not necessarily intelligence. In my experience, more often than not, intelligence inhibits people's ability to make money because, I mean, God, I must be a genius. I mean, honestly. Honestly, like.
Unidentified Commentator
And I come from a long line of.
Bernie Moreno
Jesus.
Sam Cedar
There's a lot of brainiacs in the. In the main focus. It's just, I. I think. I mean, it is not. Is not a one to one thing plus one for the meaty Van Jones meltdown, please.
Emma Vigeland
We'll find it. Can we check in a little on Kornacki? I am curious
Unidentified Commentator
messages for you? Yes. On your phone. Oh, I'm also looking for some of the complete counties as well. We do have a couple and we can. We can also probably get to those. We have some complete. We have some complete counties. We're up to 85% in two counties as of our latest vote results. Did we get. Did the decision desk tell us if we really.
A trustworthy cadence.
We do believe there is more.
Emma Vigeland
I feel like. I feel bad.
Unidentified Commentator
They put the expected vote in Oakland county. Got raised a few minutes ago. We don't know. We can't say overall if we're. If that what you're saying about the election day vote.
Emma Vigeland
So there we see Will Lawrence is up.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah. I mean, okay, so full disclosure. We. We passed notes back and forth. We're sort of comparing notes. We were trying to think out loud. So we do have a completed county. Now give me the completed county loops.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
We were just.
Unidentified Commentator
We were just up there. Okay, so we. Sorry, I lost. Loose.
Nathan Robinson
Okay, well, fourth time's the charm.
Unidentified Commentator
Okay.
Emma Vigeland
Farooqi has lost.
Unidentified Commentator
This is tiny. But again, again, just sort of. I think this is. This is key because we're spending all night saying, it's this type, it's that type. If it goes this way. Here's a place where all the types are now in. There's no. There's no conditionals here with this one. I know it's tiny, but I do want to just watch Harry Emden and we'll show you this elsewhere because I think, look, Luce County, Upper Peninsula, right here. And The Whitmer got 70% of the vote here. Again, establishment benchmarks potentially for Stevens here year. Biden got 57. And we think we're done and loose.
And Stevens, that's a County with 400 people. Let's keep it moving.
70, 57, 49, meanwhile, lands at 43% right here. When he ran for governor in 2018, what did he get? In Loose county, he got 12% of the vote.
Sam Robinson
Right.
Unidentified Commentator
So Luce county is tiny. Okay. But like we've been saying, if this is what we're going to be seeing. Okay, sort of from this point next north, you know, Stevens wins, but not anything like the Whitmer margin from 2018. Okay. Whitmer. El said in these places, if these count.
Sam Cedar
Ones. Whatever.
Emma Vigeland
Okay. All right.
Unidentified Commentator
You don't want to play the music when you say that.
John from San Antonio
Charge.
Sam Cedar
Emma is so nervous that I am. Even if I say this, it's not going to affect the outcome.
Emma Vigeland
You don't know that for sure.
Sam Cedar
No, I 100% know. The polls are closed. It is physically impossible for my words to impact the outcome.
Emma Vigeland
They could. There's a 1% chance that it has the magical power of 1%.
Sam Cedar
Not 1%.
Emma Vigeland
No, I'm rounding up.
Sam Cedar
No, no, no. Rounding up from zero.
Emma Vigeland
That your voice has the magical powers to change things, you know?
Sam Cedar
Oh, my God.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Well.
Emma Vigeland
Well, I mean, I don't know. I just don't think we should call it. With 21% in. Maybe. Yeah, 22% in.
Sam Cedar
Well, I can't officially call.
Emma Vigeland
Yes,
Unidentified Commentator
but only because you don't have that power. Otherwise you would.
Emma Vigeland
But election day votes are supposed to favor the more left wing candidate. You know, that's the kind of thing.
Sam Cedar
She's not winning anywhere with enough of a margin to win.
Emma Vigeland
I'm checking.
Unidentified Commentator
She just won Loose county by like 13 votes. What are you talking about?
Emma Vigeland
So she's up in. She's up in Oakland county by two point.
Sam Cedar
She's supposed to be up there, but she's supposed to be up there by 12.
Emma Vigeland
Exactly. Exactly.
Sam Cedar
It is over.
Unidentified Commentator
The heat is on them when they do this.
Sam Cedar
It is over. The real question is the Lawrence.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
Should we.
Sam Cedar
Who else got booed? Yes. Oh, this is important, actually. Todd Blanche. I'll tell you why this is going to be important. Because we have two senators who have agreed to vote for Todd Blanche.
Unidentified Commentator
Right.
Sam Cedar
Cornyn. And who was the senator? And Tillis.
Emma Vigeland
Because he agreed to that written affirmation about the anti weaponization fund.
Sam Cedar
And that's all they need. Right. They can afford to lose Murkowski. They can afford to lose Collins.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yep.
Sam Cedar
For whatever reason, they're sort of. There's a little bit of a balk by Tillis and Cornyn right now because they ostensibly cared about the IRS deal and it's quite clear that there was no IRS deal and that somehow has gotten out in a way. So there's a little bit of like tapping on the brakes. But Todd Blanche, this is why this is going to be important. Because if I am Troy Jackson, I'm going to talk about abortion because he has the fervor of a convert. And I'm going to talk about the implications of having a Republican Senate. And Todd Blanche apparently, maybe to get more support for his becoming ag, despite the fact that he was literally Donald Trump's personal defense attorney and has been essentially allowing Trump to escape any accountability over Epstein was reaching out to conservative religious right wing leaders to tell them that abortion is going to be banned in every state if we have anything to do with it. And unfortunately for him, that audio got leaked. Play this leaders leaked.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
A big part of my job as the acting Attorney General and Attorney General Bondi before me was restoring his bringing back regularity to the Department of Justice and the government when it comes to protecting religious liberty. And we're not done. We have a lot of work to do with some of the policies around pro life and some of the pro abortion work that the Biden administration and the Justice Department allowed to happen.
Sam Cedar
Some of that is taking longer than we want.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
But rest assured that we're working hand in hand with, with HHS and the FDA and the White House and President Trump's team to get permanent solutions so that the Dobbs decision becomes permanent in every single state. So that means that if states are allowing, if states have said we are not, we are going to protect the unborn and we're gonna protect every life from the moment of conception. We're putting practices and policies in place so that other states and other organizations can't attack that. And they can't, you know, do things like they're doing with mailing in mail order drugs and things like that.
John from San Antonio
And there's.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
It's a process that takes a lot of time and that's why it's been 19 months and we don't have complete victory yet. But we will have victory and victory will be soon and it will be permanent. And that's an important thing to everybody to remember.
Sam Cedar
Okay, so there you have it. And Susan Collins is going to have to deal with that.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah. Answer for her vote on Kavanaugh as well. And to your point, I think Troy Jackson can emphasize his, like, almost translate the redemptive arc from the primary as he takes over the campaign infrastructure for platinum that like, obviously wasn't fully realized in any way, and make it more policy focused as opposed to personality focused. And talk about like how he's changed his mind on these issues and what brought him to that point. I think people will be refreshed by
Sam Cedar
that also if Thom Tillis votes to confirm this guy. North Carolina is not so, you know, North Carolina is a, it's a red state, but it's like a crimson red. I don't know my colors well enough to know what happens when you have a little bit of blue in that red.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
And I suspect the idea of the federal government imposing a ban on abortion, Roy Cooper may be able to make some hay out of that if Thom Tillis votes for it as well.
Emma Vigeland
I think that's right.
Unidentified Commentator
That's right.
Sam Cedar
It's going to be interesting. Let's go back to the Kornacki cam, see what he says.
Unidentified Commentator
Wide, it's a six and a half point margin here for Al Syed over Stevens. We do have I want to pick up this story I think we started to tell you a little bit ago, but Eaton county, this is a decent sized county, bedroom communities, you know, sort of suburbs of Lansing here. I think the interesting thing that's been happening is how much closer it's been getting here in Eaton as the night's gone on. And it speaks to, don't mean to be a broken record, but that difference between, you know, the election day vote that got counted fast and put El sayed way ahead and the vote by mail that's been trickling in, the updates have been trickling in, in that Stevens number has gone from a place over the course of the night here in Eaton, where you're looking at it initially saying, oh, getting clobbered here to like, is she putting herself in a range of where she'd need to be to have a real chance at this statewide? You're seeing that in Eaton. You're seeing that, you know, to the east of Lansing in Livingston, where again, that numbers continue to tick up. I think it's got to tick up more for her, you know, considerably. But there's more vote to come and it looks like it is that vote by mail, a lot of that vote by mail that's been so friendly to her. And so I think the story that's kind of taking shape here is there's a lot of questions like that on this map. There's a lot of blinks, you know, on this map right now. Okay, like a place like Genesee county, this is a big one. This is where the city of Flint is. This is one of the higher black population counties in Michigan. One of the key Ingredients that Stevens is looking for to have a shot tonight is to do extremely well. Run up the score with black voters. How does that look? Does that happen and how does that look in a place like Genesee County? Her formula for victory absolutely depends on it. We got nothing there that we can really show you right now. We don't have much in Saginaw either, where it's a bit of the same story. The counties are, you know, there is a substantial black population there as well. All of these sort of questions that we're seeing here with the way Stevens has done as these votes have evolved, have raised the question if she can do this, if she can do that, if she gets a big. All of that is coming around to. If she can answer yes to all those questions, then what she would need on top of everything else out of Wayne county would be big, big numbers. And I think specifically from Detroit, where the population is overwhelmingly black and where we really, we have a very small amount of vote right now, what you're looking at, as a matter of fact, in wayne, you see 4% in. That's just about, you know, 12%. One thing we just got in Wayne was an update from the city of Dearborn. Dearborn is the first majority Arab American city in the United States. It's a place where Al Said won huge in 2018. He was losing. He lost the primary statewide for governor in 2018 to Gretchen Whitmer. But he won big in Dearborn. And so we just got votes from Dearborn place where we knew he's going to do really well. And those votes are election day votes. That's the type of vote he's been doing particularly well with. That's not all of this, but that's part of the mix you're looking at here. It's Al Said friendly. What we're waiting on is what happens in Detroit, specifically with the black vote in Detroit. Because Stevens, again, you're trying to stitch together through this patchwork of, you know, partial returns, very, very little that's close to complete right now as a county, you're seeing the hint of something from Stevens, but there's a lot of conditionals in the that. And if they all kind of come to fruition for her outside of Wayne, it would come down to Wayne and to Detroit. And again, I say, like the fact that we're sitting here at 10 o' clock Eastern and we got 4% in Wayne, this is par for the course for Wayne County. Yeah, but.
Emma Vigeland
And to that point, what I hear you saying is we may Be in for a fairly long night, Steve.
Sam Robinson
Right?
Emma Vigeland
I mean, if that's what it's going to come down to.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, I'm saying I'm not sure it's coming down to that yet because. Because she still has a lot of work to do outside of Wayne County. There's been some encouraging numbers here throughout the night. If you're el sayed, put this back to the statewide. There have been a lot of encouraging things in these numbers, you know, for outside. So Stevens has got to establish a bunch of things in places that like that I was just showing you right there, you know, to have it come down a wing.
Sam Robinson
Steve.
Emma Vigeland
And can you just give us a sense how much of the early vote has been counted yet? Do we have a sense of that?
Unidentified Commentator
Actually, if you give me a second, Adam, do we cumulatively have how much early?
Emma Vigeland
Hey, this is our first appearance by Adam, producer extraordinaire.
Unidentified Commentator
Hey, bud.
Emma Vigeland
There he is.
Unidentified Commentator
We have about 20% of the vote early in person vote. That's currently unexpected. The early vote. Yeah, but how about the vote by mail? Oh, the vote by mail. 9%. Okay, so there's still. Yeah. And that's Stephen's friendly vote, you know.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yes.
Emma Vigeland
Well, and when I talked to them today, they were feeling very confident about the early votes. Vote for all the reasons that you are laying out there. We will come back to you early and often. Hallie, what's so fascinating is.
Sam Cedar
Okay, so I get what's going on. That what we just saw was them on NBC.
Unidentified Commentator
We have a minute.
Sam Cedar
Okay, so we're watching these guys.
Unidentified Commentator
Top of the hour behind Top of the hour.
Emma Vigeland
They're. They're going live.
Unidentified Commentator
I'm on this one now. Hi, folks, top of the hour. We're going to do another update for the news now, folks. I see one. Okay, that's the poll close countdown to Washington. We haven't even mentioned Washington.
Emma Vigeland
I feel great about that.
Unidentified Commentator
In an hour, the polls are going to close there. The vote by mail. This is a state that's like Colorado, it's like California. It's largely vote by mail. They get a ton of it counted up ahead of time. They just press send basically as the polls close or close to it. So between 11 and 1130, 1145, a ton of vote to come in in Washington. Some congressional primaries there. We'll get to that. That are pretty interesting. That's going to happen an hour from now. I'm telling you this now because I'm not sure between now and then how many chances I'll have so We've got that. They're going to come to me. The clock just disappeared. I'll look at this one. They're going to come to me in a minute. And what I'm going to do is my producer has put another note together. I'm not going to let you see the notes. Maybe at the end of the night, I'll let you see the notes, but he's put another note for me. And while I read the note, I'm going to drink water.
John from San Antonio
Water.
Unidentified Commentator
Except I don't. Is there any more water in here? All right, we need a little bit more.
Sam Cedar
This guy just like, listen, hey, guys, while I watch Kornacki, I'm gonna drink a little bit more of Mezcal.
Unidentified Commentator
Say again?
He said he's gonna drink more mescal.
Bernie Moreno
A little more.
Unidentified Commentator
Oh, okay. So we have a few minutes here.
Sam Cedar
All right, let me.
Unidentified Commentator
Okay,
Emma Vigeland
Bring us back.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Is that okay, Eric?
Sam Cedar
Crumbs plug. Bless you, Brian, and thank you for your service. Adam, man, Lefty. I feel like I have to speak up for nc, even though I recently moved away, that it's far more blue than it lets on. It's been gerrymandered to hell in the General assembly. Has a stranglehold. Dnc, Google pundit. What's all this? She has to do X, Y or Z in that county. It's a PAC money that's done all the work. Not Stevens.
Unidentified Commentator
Well, that's where the shifts. If she ends up pulling this out, which is like, do you feel like Jonathan Chait was like, does anyone feel like if Abdul Said loses, that they'll be honest about. It's like, do you really feel confident, Haley Stevens going into this race? I feel far more confident about Abdul El Salah. Yeah.
If she were to win, wouldn't all that money go into Mike Rogers anyway?
Sam Cedar
Yeah, well, that. That was the point. We were talking about that with Nathan. Roger.
Unidentified Commentator
Oh, right.
Sam Cedar
You have money that weighs in.
Emma Vigeland
We weren't just capturing your attention.
Sam Cedar
You have money that's gone into that race to make sure that you have a pro Israel candidate. And so it only makes sense that if that's your job, if that's why you raise money and contribute money. If you have a race between two pro Israel candidates, you don't deploy your money there. You deploy it in some other race. Maybe it's in California, maybe it's in Wisconsin, maybe it's in New York. Who knows?
Emma Vigeland
So the bad news is that Stevens is outperforming expectations in rural areas and wider areas. Areas of the state. The Better news is that the count, two of the three counties that are kind of bellwethers, Kent and Oakland, show El Sayed, you know, keeping pace, if not exceeding what he needs to do. But this is not going to be, you know, necessarily, it seems like anything resembling double digits. So. And I think I'm pretty safe in saying that now given how Stevens is just like, generally outperforming a bit. So I'm a little nervous right now.
Sam Cedar
Rural Washington. Washington supreme finally signed up as a member. Thank you, folks. You can become a member and join the majority. Majorityreport.com support the show. Also, you all know that we are live at noon every day except for today when we're live. Now, let's look at Harry Anton Kornacki I'm finding annoying be singing like hello
Unidentified Commentator
Young lovers in a fedora or something.
Sam Cedar
Everything's turning up roses.
Unidentified Commentator
Don't go.
What is it?
Don't go kissing under that apple tree with anyone else but me.
Nathan Robinson
Whatever 1940s reference you guys have on
Unidentified Commentator
lock, I'm not old enough to have been alive during the 40s.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, it's just about knowing history. Sven the farting horse, John King X. The call you're thinking of is magenta. Sam. Crimson is bright deep red, whereas, well,
Emma Vigeland
this is Dana Bash's ex husband. He got at out right on time.
Sam Cedar
Too much of this guy.
Unidentified Commentator
We can't be decisive just yet, but, you know, 51 to 45 again, you'd rather be out front. The main thing is we need more votes here. We need more votes from Wayne county to then see as you move up the state. Pretty competitive if you look at the more rural counties going back and forth with that. But Wayne county is the wild card and it usually keeps us waiting. Abby.
Yeah. And we will continue to wait until those votes come in. John King, thank you very much. Stay close by. We'll get to the table in just a moment as well. But first, I want to introduce Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. He has endorsed Abdul El Said in the Michigan Senate race and he endorsed Cory bush from Missouri's 1st congressional district tonight. Senator, thanks for joining us tonight.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
My pleasure.
Unidentified Commentator
He's had a problem with his eyes publicly. He's not a Democratic socialist. He's been lumped in with them, though, because he has embraced a lot of their core positions. But when we're talking about a state like Michigan, a key battleground state, a purple state, are you confident that he can win in the general election?
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yes, I am. Abby. It's important to understand what's going on Tonight in Michigan, which is kind of historical, I cannot recall anything like it, Abdul EL Sayed is taking on the entire Michigan Democratic establishment. He is taking on the entire national Democratic establishment. And in an unprecedented way. I have not heard about this ever. He is being outspent 10 to 1 by Super PACS, AIPAC and other special interest organizations funded by billionaires. Outspent 10 to 1. And as of this moment at least, he is in the lead. So what that tells me is that people in Michigan and we have seen this abbey all across this country. We've seen it in New York City, we've seen it in Colorado, New Jersey. I think ordinary people understand that the economy is rigged, the very rich are getting richer, working families are struggling, that we have a corrupt campaign finance system which we are seeing operating right now, now in Michigan, where billionaires are trying to buy elections. So the fact that he's doing as well as he is right now tells me that in a general election, he is going to appeal to independents, he's going to appeal to some Republicans, and by the way, a whole lot of young people who previously have not been participating in the political process.
Unidentified Commentator
On the other hand, over in Missouri, Cori Bush, who you also endorse, did lose her primary to make that was a race where AIPAC played a big role both the first time and the second time. What do you think happened there? Why did she lose?
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
I don't know. I endorse Cory. I like Cory very, very much. And I'm disappointed that she lost. But I will tell you, Abby, and this is an issue as Americans, we have got to deal with. I believe in democracy. I believe that elections are about a clash of ideas. You disagree with me, fine. Go to the voters. Tell the voters why you think I'm a terrible senator. That's what politics is about. But when you have millions and millions of dollars, often with dishonest 30 second ads, that is undermining democracy, it bothers me very, very much. We got to get rid of these super PACs. We got to overturn Citizens United. And by the way, that is something that Abdul has been stressing in his Senate campaign.
Unidentified Commentator
What about Leader Schumer? He's been on the other side of you in a number of these primaries, including in Michigan here tonight. If El Sayed does win tonight, what do you want Leader Schumer to take away? Do you think it is time for him to change his strategy around these primaries?
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
I think what we are seeing, no matter what happens tonight in Michigan, and I hope very much that El Sayed wins is you're seeing a transformation of the Democratic Party and what the debate within the Democratic Party is about. It's not only about ideology. I want to see billionaires start paying their fair share of taxes. I believe, as progressives do, that health care is a human right. We need Medicare for all. I believe that we should cease all funding to Netanyahu's extremist government, et cetera. But it's not only ideology that we disagree with the Democratic leadership about. It's how you do politics. It is no great secret that what the Democratic leadership does and the Republicans do it even more. If you go to wealthy billionaires, you say, give us campaign contributions, you start super PACs, you hire all these consultants, you put 30 second ads on, you do opposition resources search, that's your campaign. We do it differently. And in Michigan right now, you know what Abdullah's done? He has done 500 public events. He has thousands of volunteers knocking on doors. He's doing what Mamdani did in New York City, 100,000 volunteers. We are growing the voter universe, bringing people in who have been disenchanted and not participating. That is the difference in ideology. That's the difference in how we do politics. Politics.
Unidentified Commentator
Let me ask you about one of those campaign events because just last night the popular but very controversial streamer Hasan Piker was at one of final events. The two did a stream together a fairly long.
Emma Vigeland
Abby, come on.
Unidentified Commentator
I know that you've spoken to Hasan Piker in the past, but are you comfortable with El Said having a close association with them?
Sam Cedar
Oh my God.
Unidentified Commentator
Past statements. To give you an example, one of the more controversial ones is that Piker has said america deserve that.
Emma Vigeland
I've never heard that before.
Unidentified Commentator
Everyone knows this now.
Sam Cedar
No, I am not.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
I think that's a dumb statement. On the other hand, he had a
Sam Cedar
whole lot of followers and a lot
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
of things that he's saying that are making sense to a lot of people. I think, you know, we have to get above cancel culture. You know, when you're doing radio, whatever they do, whatever they do, you say dumb things. I suspect if you go back over your career, there may be one or two things that you said that you may have regretted. But I think what we have got to do is look at the totality
Unidentified Commentator
of famously when she said we deserve
Sam Cedar
Pearl harbor and go forward.
Unidentified Commentator
So when someone like James Carville says he doesn't want to be in the same political party as Hasan Piker, which one are you going to take?
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Well, that's not Much of a choice. Who doesn't want to be the. In my party, the party that I belong to, that Pica, that Syed belongs to, he can start his own party. You know, look, what we are doing now is, you know, you can.
Sam Cedar
Did you really ask me that question? Am I allowed to say, are you fucking serious?
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Where your leadership is taking huge amounts of money from aipac, which is supporting an extremist Netanyahu government that many of us believe have committed genocide? You want to be in a party with people who do that? Do you want to be in a party which has not stood up to the AI industry because they got a lot of money from AI or from crypto? So you could pick, you know, you could pick whatever you want to pick, but I think we need a big tent, and I think people like Pica should be welcomed into that. Certainly.
Unidentified Commentator
Just a quick final question for you, Senator. If voters do choose to nominate Congresswoman Stevens tonight, would you support her in the general election if it meant winning that seat?
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
I want to do everything I can to put a brake on Trump's disastrous policies. We need to have Democrats control the House and the Senate. And I will do my best to elect all Democrats to the United States
Emma Vigeland
Senate, which has been the case for this wing of the party the whole time.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, absolutely. Hillary Scholten, you had her on earlier in the day.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, it's always been projection.
Sam Cedar
No, that was. I mean, it's almost like they have a responsibility to ask the dumbest questions over and over and over.
Emma Vigeland
So, I mean, we're gonna need Wayne county, which includes, you know, a lot of Detroit, to make a determination. But if Oakland is any indication, which is suburban and it's near next door, you know, Haley Stevens is only up by 2 points with 73% of the votes in the neighboring county, Wayne, obviously different. It includes Detroit, but only 6% in. And she'd have to do, you know, pretty significant numbers there. We have 28% of the vote in, per the Associated Press, and Abdul's margin has largely remained unchanged. Stevens has cut into it a bit, but, you know, we're not in panic mode yet. I just think that maybe calling it was a little premature.
Sam Cedar
I'm gonna call it.
Emma Vigeland
No, no, please don't do this to me.
Sam Cedar
It's worth it just to.
Emma Vigeland
For the psychic damage. What's wrong with you?
Unidentified Commentator
The Giants are winning the super bowl, too.
Sam Cedar
Here, you locked in. Now you've crossed the line, Brian. Now you've crossed the line.
Emma Vigeland
Well, I mean, and not that it was happening with Jackson Dart and Malik Neighbors off of ACL next year anyway. But that defense has an opportunity to be really otherworldly. But whatever.
Unidentified Commentator
Do you want to check in on some.
Sam Cedar
Yeah. You know, the one thing I think we can say without absolute surety is that Jalen Brunson is going to stay healthy for eternity. Genuinely healthy for eternity.
Bernie Moreno
Wow.
Emma Vigeland
Genuinely.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, he's definitely not going to have like an ankle issue in 20, 26, 27 season. It's clear.
Emma Vigeland
I hope so many bad things happen to you. And they will now because I don't test the. I don't test fate anymore.
Unidentified Commentator
Speaking of sports, do you want to take a little detour while we wait for these. Some more of these results to come in because Riley Gaines has something to say.
Sam Cedar
Oh, yeah, no, wait, remind me of who Riley Gaines is again.
Unidentified Commentator
She's a woman who took fourth in a college.
Sam Cedar
Oh, she was the one who was swimmer who was about. Okay, yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
She tied for fifth with.
Sam Cedar
Because she could have come in like tied for fourth.
Unidentified Commentator
Well, it would have still been fifth, but it would have been non tied.
Sam Cedar
Oh, okay.
Unidentified Commentator
So. And she is still hasn't got a job, but she is talking about sports still. And there's a Sophie Cunningham, a player on the Indiana Fever. He's recently come out against trans people. People. And I just think like, then she played in Minnesota and the entire team, entire audience booed her and she scored three points in 23 minutes. And it.
Sam Cedar
Oh, because of all the trans players on the other team, right?
Bernie Moreno
Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
And. And actually her own coach wore a Trans girls belong shirt the very next game. So like, Damien, she's an idiot.
Like, she's.
Yeah, I've heard from a public podcaster before that she's probably gonna run for politics, but the podcaster didn't want to say which party she's gonna run for, which meant she's a fucking Republican and she's been saying this shit for a while.
Emma Vigeland
So the right wing media, first of all, they're upset that Caitlin Clark isn't taking the bait. The actual star on the Indiana Fever, who they want to be like the right wing mascot. But the other part is like the open, disgusting, thirsting I've seen because of this girl being a blonde woman and the fact that she posed with Riley Gaines. I don't know, it just shows how like, they will be discarded as like, people. Women that were cornally objectified for a very specific purpose.
Unidentified Commentator
Matt Walsh called Caitlin Clark cowardly for not what. For saying, like, this isn't actually something we talk about. And I. And not something I'm focused on. And the league.
Sam Cedar
Oh, there's no way that they don't spend 90% of their time. Time talking about what happens if we have a trans person in this league,
Emma Vigeland
which is what the NBA players do. They're obsessed with the idea that the trans man might be an NBA player. And they, and I'm sure right wing media is focused on that the entire time.
Sam Cedar
When are people going to talk about the fact that Wemby is probably not human?
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, here's. Here's Sophie. Or here's Riley Gaines complaining.
Emma Vigeland
Bringing politics into sports. The league doesn't have a problem with politics in sports. They have a problem with conservative politics in sports. And I will tell you, Sean, every time Sophie was on the court, every time she was subbed in, every time she threw up the ball, she was booed by the entire. Virtually bar me.
Unidentified Commentator
Booed by the entire stadium.
Sam Cedar
Yeah, because y' all suck.
Emma Vigeland
Right? The ball, she was booed by the entire stadium. Virtually bar me. And Jinsei, who is sitting next to me, owner of XXXY Athletics, that is.
Sam Cedar
How can people boo at a sporting event in a country that has a First Amendment? It is outrageous. It's unconstitutional. Everyone should have to get a refund on their tickets and have to give up their fan merch or something. This is a scary time under the First Amendment.
Emma Vigeland
You're right.
Unidentified Commentator
No, this is scary time for people like Riley Gaines and every single person in this country that thought that they need to vote against trans girls playing basketball. Yeah, that actually you're not popular. You're a bunch of fucking freaks. And everyone's caught onto it now.
Also, wouldn't the capitalist answer to this Fox News be to lean harder into whatever the entire stadium feels?
Sam Cedar
Right? Yes. But we have a First Amendment. Oh, right, Brian.
Emma Vigeland
She threw up the ball. She was booed.
Nathan Robinson
She really threw up the ball.
Unidentified Commentator
Because she scored three points in 23
minutes, which is far below her eight points a game she normally average.
I mean, she's never been that.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, yeah. If he was on the court. Every, every time she was subbed in, every time she threw up the ball, she was booed by the entire stadium. Virtually.
Sam Cedar
Are you supposed to throw up the ball or are you supposed to, like,
Emma Vigeland
shoot it sitting next to me of XX sexuality.
Unidentified Commentator
She's a swimmer.
Emma Vigeland
They're trying to do to her what they've done to people like me. What they do to people like you? They call you.
Sam Cedar
Who's the they? Totally everybody.
Unidentified Commentator
The entire stadium is trying to do
Emma Vigeland
the elderly white Men watching this who enjoyed the imagery of balls in mouth that Raleigh Gaines just came up with.
Sam Cedar
I'm going on Mehdi Hasan's show. I can't remember the name of it, but in one of the topics, it's tomorrow.
Emma Vigeland
Sorry, I don't mean to laugh.
Sam Cedar
Well, I just can't. I don't remember the name of anything. I often call this show the Minority Report. And people are like, it's the Majority Report. Okay. But one of the things we're talking about is the change in the right. Like, I cannot tell you, like, how bathed in the idea of safe space and a, you know, a snowflake and can't handle criticism. And, like, it was. It was such a. Like, a tenant. It was like, the reason why the entire conservative movement existed. And then just, like, one day they decide, oh, we're on the other side of that. Forget it. Sorry. I mean, like, the idea, like, you liberals are so angry all the time. You're emotional. Why? Why are you so upset? Like, and in just. Just, like, 180 degrees, Clay Travis, they believe in nothing.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yeah.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
Well, this girls sports thing is really funny, too, because they're ostensibly doing this to protect women's sports. Then you have an entire entire stadium full of people who enjoy. Actually enjoy women's sports booing you for that. But Clay Travis is literally going on Twitter today, in the last couple days, saying, I'll pay a million dollars if the Aces Las Vegas Aces play a high school championship basketball. So, like, he clearly hates women's sports.
Sam Cedar
Like, of course. I mean, we saw this with Kaepernick. Like, how are you. Like, you're poisoning sports with politics.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
I mean, here's the thing. The conservative movement is. It is so much about culture wars, but understand, it's literally the, like, the most diminished level of culture.
Emma Vigeland
Well, because they can't produce or do anything that is culturally relevant.
Sam Cedar
The point is that it is harder to get a reversal on Taylor Swift than it would be for them to completely disown the entire rubric of what their culture war is based upon at any given time. I mean, and, you know, over the course of, like, 20 years, they have reversed themselves and argued the 180 position, like, three or four different times.
Unidentified Commentator
It's Dave Rubin doing pro vaccine content in 2014.
Sam Cedar
I mean, it's just nuts. It's nuts. These crazy lefty hippies don't believe in science, tethered because. Because all they care about is some type of culture war, which is a veneer, because underneath it, ultimately, what lives There is just a. It's too simplistic to call it racism, but it is
Emma Vigeland
an otherism, a resentment.
Sam Cedar
It's a resentment of anybody who's different from them themselves. And it plays out in race, it plays out in gender, it plays out in religion and plays out in xenophobia. And it's just like. It literally just rotates through as if it's like some type of, I don't know, Froegert place that has revolving. We have 20 flavors, but we don't have all 20 at the same time. We, you know, when we run out of peanut butter, we try and push the salted caramel, and then. And they just keep rotating it through. It's. It's nuts. Sorry to go lean so hard on Frogart.
Emma Vigeland
No, it's. It's so. Okay, let's go.
Sam Cedar
Let's go back to Kornaki.
John from San Antonio
All right.
Sam Cedar
Yeah. These guys. I don't even want to wait.
Emma Vigeland
It's gonna be a long night with Wayne County, I think, but I'm just hopeful that we get some better.
Sam Cedar
We're not gonna go too much later. I should tell folks right now because we got to do the show tomorrow and we can't control the outcome, and you're gonna have to watch Kornacki without us. But I'm telling you right now, dude, no, no, no.
Emma Vigeland
Please, please, please. Like, I'm actually legit. Please don't do it.
Unidentified Commentator
90, 95% of the vote in we showed you last time. There is some evidence, some limited in northern Michigan, in the rural parts that Al said might be outperforming there, too. So that becomes a factor maybe a bit around the edges, but it certainly
Sam Cedar
could be a big factor.
Unidentified Commentator
But it's been notable. I think there were some initial big numbers in some of these places that suggested did at the start of the night. This could be a runaway for Al Said. I think it's come back around a bit the other way. The question is, how far back around is it going to come? And I think what we just need. We say Wayne, Wayne, Wayne. That's true. But what we really need right now is some substantial counties to get to basically 100%, because so much of what we're doing right now as well. She's doing good with this vote.
Sam Cedar
He's honestly, I had beef church jerky today. And so I think he's going to
Unidentified Commentator
win the world, actually get to 100%. I think it'll clear up fast before we get to Wayne.
Emma Vigeland
All right, well, we are on pins and needles.
Unidentified Commentator
Steve Kornacki we got more vote out of Detroit.
Emma Vigeland
Wait, we got madam vote out of Detroit.
Unidentified Commentator
I'm sorry.
Nathan Robinson
Yes, we.
Unidentified Commentator
That pre process absentee just came in out of Detroit. So they're 45,000 votes. Okay. This is the vote by Mayo in Detroit.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yep.
Unidentified Commentator
This is. Okay. This is, this is all of Wayne County. This isn't just Detroit that you're looking at. But if you were seeing this before, Al Said had a narrow lead with a very scant number of votes counted in Wayne. We've now added the vote by mail for the city of Detroit. What were the margins on that? Yeah, Stevens gets 74. Al said gets 22.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Wow.
Unidentified Commentator
So, okay, now that's a very, very big number for her. Obviously, she's winning the vote by winning. This is what you wanted to see by 52. What we now need to see is the second piece of it. This is like a boxing match, right?
Yeah.
She just took her best punch. Now Al Said is going to take his best swing with the election day vote.
Bernie Moreno
Right, Right.
Unidentified Commentator
How does it look compared to that? But I think one thing that's interesting that we've been looking at is these votes have been coming in. One model we've kind of had in our minds here is that gubernatorial primary in 2018 when Gretchen Whitmer won. Al Said was sort of a distant second, but Whitmer only got 52% statewide in that primary. Okay. As the loan establishment candidate against two progressive challenges. So we've been using the Whitmer number in a lot of these counties as sort of maybe a rough benchmark of where Stevens wants to be tonight. And the interesting thing is Whitmer really struggled in Wayne County. She lost Detroit. She actually came in second place in Detroit. She got 36% of the vote in Detroit. She got 44% overall in Wayne County. And again, I keep saying how big Wayne is 20% of the vote, you know, statewide. So this was core to the chances Stevens has tonight is getting a substantially better number out of Detroit and by extension out of Wayne county than Gretchen Whitmer did in 2018. This is consistent with that. The question now is, as you start to get that election day versus vote, how much is El Sayed able to offset that?
Emma Vigeland
So then can I ask you this, Steve? And I don't want to. I'm reliably told by our source in the room at the Stevens camp that they are literally hanging on your every word as we speak. So just, you know, know the audience here. What is the number that Al Said's camp is Going to want to see for that. And that Stevens camp is going to say, in other words, what, What, What. What is the ballpark that we.
Sam Cedar
How the fuck do the Stevens campaign not have that?
Unidentified Commentator
Use the Whitmer.
Sam Cedar
I doubt it.
Emma Vigeland
Of course they have the ear.
Unidentified Commentator
I'm sorry, did we just get a little bit more? I just changed. What did we just get? Yeah, we got another 3,000 votes.
Sam Cedar
Oh, drop.
Emma Vigeland
These are better for al said drop.
Sam Cedar
I don't know from where.
Unidentified Commentator
Okay, so again, Wayne is not just Detroit. So that might be what just happened there. We said Detroit in that 2018 primary. It was 38% went for Sri Tanadar, one of the two progress. He's a congressman now. 36% went for Gretchen Whitmer. Okay. And 26%.
Sam Cedar
Here's the tough part. We can put him down. Here's the tough part. We haven't had this type of Senate race, primary in Michigan in a decade at least. And so it's very difficult. There's no apples to apples measure here.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Here.
Sam Cedar
It's very difficult. They're extrapolating with the Whitmer race. But the problem is that the Whitmer race had other opponents that had different strengths. It doesn't break down along the El said Stevens sort of lines. Said is up right now by essentially three points.
Emma Vigeland
That is not where we want to be.
Sam Cedar
I think that's exactly where we should be. Everything's gonna work out well. Like I said, I had beef jerky today. I think that's a good sign.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Okay.
Emma Vigeland
I don't know why that means anything, but
Unidentified Commentator
he's making a point about superstition.
What you just said didn't make any sense. Can you try to make sense here and knock on some wood.
Emma Vigeland
It doesn't make sense.
Unidentified Commentator
I got a rabbit's foot for you.
Hop around three times and counterclockwise on your left foot. We should be all right.
Sam Cedar
We should be back to where we want to be.
Emma Vigeland
He's talking about someone who's talking sense.
Sam Cedar
Let's HEAR what Mallory McMurrow has to say.
Emma Vigeland
Mallory. What's up, girl? Welcome back to the spotlight.
Unidentified Commentator
She voted for herself, right?
Emma Vigeland
I would imagine, yeah. She declines to say who she voted for. Given the level of Islamophobia she engaged in the 11th hour of this race. I'm not shocked that she did not vote for Abdul Al Said. Or at least that's what she seems to indicate. Telling us who you voted for. For today. I voted for great Democrats all up and down the ballot. And I made a commitment that no one wins the Senate race tonight. I will be endorsing as soon as that race is called. I will be headed to their election night party to show we all come together after whatever good she's going to a party so that we can be a team as we head to November. Well, the reason I ask is because if you voted for, say, Haley Stevens and she is not then out and then you do go and endorse Abdul El Said, you know, it might resonate more with her voters or others. In terms of your point about Democrats in Michigan uniting. Yeah, I made it explicitly clear I
Sam Robinson
trust the voters to decide.
Emma Vigeland
You know, I ran hoping that I would bring a lot to the table as an option for Michiganders. Unfortunately, there was no path. I brought nothing to the table. But look, polling, public polling showed that my supporters split just about.
Sam Cedar
Emma Vigland undermined my campaign. That's why I'm here right now.
Emma Vigeland
Trust the voters and I will be there giving everything I got to make
Sam Cedar
sure that we win. Pause it for a second. You know, here's the thing. Like, this is indicative also of, like, just the general failure of, of these candidates to understand the, like, what era we're in. When you are on the ballot and you are asked, who did you vote for? And you don't want to say that you voted for Said or you don't want to say that you voted for Stevens. Here's what you say. I voted for me. I voted for me. Of course I did. Who out there would be on the ballot and wouldn't vote for themselves? I wanted at least one vote vote. That's what you say.
Emma Vigeland
Right.
Sam Cedar
So you come across as a human being, like, no, I didn't vote for myself. I put all this effort in and I didn't vote for myself. Are you serious? Just say you voted for yourself to get out of the whole question instead of looking like a douchebag.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, that's a good point.
Sam Cedar
I mean, it's right there for you. I'm sorry, Caitlin. You know what? People are going to think this is selfish and I'm. And I, I. And look, it's just, I'm probably not going to run for Senate again. This is the one time I voted for myself.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
Because I think both these candidates, whichever one, is picked by the Michigan voters, I'm going to support. And so I figured one person should vote for Mallory McMurray would be me.
Emma Vigeland
That would be her most authentic answer of the entire cycle. And that's not what you're going to get from her.
Sam Cedar
It's just like, I mean, it's like a disease.
Emma Vigeland
What she did in the final hour, like, as I said, the 11th hour of this election where she attacked Abdul Al Said and brought in Hasan Piker and seemed to kind of try to tie them both to the attack on the synagogue, this attempted attack, this terrorist attack, it was so racist that. And when it was clear that she had no power, that was about preserving a certain donor network. And I think that answered everything about her candidacy and where candidates like this actually end up falling in this fight against fascism right now.
Sam Cedar
Gross. Is there more to it or no, that's it.
Emma Vigeland
We're still, we're at 34% of votes in. Abdul Al Said is a, you know, three point, has a three point lead again, though. Wayne county still lags behind, but at least we're at a more respectable 22% of the votes. And so we have a sense of what the damage is. And that was going to be always a beneficial.
Unidentified Commentator
The early vote for Detroit was always going to be for Stevens.
Emma Vigeland
Exactly. And that's where we got from like 4% to 22%. There was just the dump. But as I have the Times page open right now, Abdul just added to his lead. He's now back to 50. So she needs to be able to make up the margins at a rapid pace.
Sam Cedar
Ramona Frankenstein, as a mid white millennial woman, I want to personally thank Emma for shanking Mallory McMurrow in that interview. Thank you, sis.
Emma Vigeland
Well, I would say it was Matt Bernstein, like 90% of it. And he brought me in to do some other work in that interview. And that wasn't even our full intention there. But, but it was after she canceled on Matt. The lore of this is just now that it's all out in the open here. Matt always was going to bring me on. Matt Bernstein was always going to bring me on with Mallory McMorrow before she canceled. And when her team emailed and asked for topics and all he said was foreign policy and healthcare, those were basically him. And I just saying that's basically what we want to cover in this interview. And that's when he responded with those two extremely general topics that she dropped out of the interview altogether. He called her out publicly. They emailed back like, hey, we want to do it. And then we just ended up asking what we were initially going to ask. But that is, I think maybe what colored that interview being a little bit more contentious was her attempt to skirt really, really basic questions from the outset of the interview, but wanting his platform. And you Know, I don't know, making some assumptions about him because he's a beautiful gay man that loves makeup and stuff like that that probably were, you know, in my view, a little bit stereotypical and didn't actually reckon with some of his politics in any real way. So that was her issue to bear.
Sam Cedar
Well, she didn't bear it terribly well.
Emma Vigeland
No.
Unidentified Commentator
We have Axelrod responding to Van Jones and Van Jones attempting to retort. I don't know if this is what people are talking about, but here's another.
Emma Vigeland
Maybe it is. Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
The fact that our ally Israel is fighting against these terrorists in the Middle East.
Let me just say a word about that, because we've talked about this before, and I speak as, you know, as the son of a Jewish refugee. So issues of anti Semitism are very personal. Personal to me, I think.
Emma Vigeland
So. Shut up, Scott.
Unidentified Commentator
What you see in Michigan is a interest group spending $30 million. She's got $64 million in television spending, and they're responsible for at least half of that. And one of the issues, as Kristen mentioned, that people are grappling with is the power of money in our politics, the influence that interest groups have. And I think it's a legitimate. It's a legitimate question. Should essentially an agent of any foreign government, whether it's Israel or any other, be able to spend. Or is it healthy for them to spend $30 million in a race like this to influence the outcome of that race?
Sam Cedar
I think.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Think that's.
Unidentified Commentator
That's a legitimate issue.
I mean, I. I get your point.
Sam Cedar
I got to. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I've got to. I've got a lot of. There's people who are sending me checks. Can we quiet down? What did you say?
Emma Vigeland
He's wearing the Stop Anti Semitism pin.
Sam Cedar
Listen, Axelrod, you're clearly anti Semitic, except for all the Jewish stuff you said before.
Unidentified Commentator
That's a legitimate issue.
Quickly. I mean, I get your point. I don't think that they're an agent before in power. I think they're American Jews, as you said.
Their mission is to support the policies of the Israeli government.
Nathan Robinson
You know what?
Sam Cedar
Pause it for a second. This occurred to me recently that I think we have a problem with saying the word aipac. I know some people. Can't pronounce it, but I think it's actually more helpful instead of saying aipac, saying the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, because the word Jew is not in there.
Emma Vigeland
It's not Age pac.
Sam Cedar
It is the American Israel Public affairs and understand American. There is an adjective. It is a PAC dedicated to helping Israel. Israel, as opposed to the France Israel Public Affairs Committee or the Belgium Israel Affairs Committee. This happens to be the American version of the Israel Public Affairs Committee. This is an advocacy for a foreign country, Period. End Stop. Whether or not the majority of the supporters of it or the vast majority of Jewish is irrelevant. Kufi is a much bigger organization
Emma Vigeland
if, say, a, you know, Saudi. By the way, this is a bad example, maybe because Saudi Arabia lobbying does actually do a lot, but it doesn't get the same. They don't spend the exact same amount and it doesn't get the same amount of attention. Can you imagine if there was like some Saudi domestic pack that was donated to by a bunch of Saudi expats and you had people on cable saying, these are Muslim Americans donating to this organization. You would never hear that. You would never hear that.
Sam Cedar
This is.
Unidentified Commentator
This is.
Sam Cedar
This is an Israel pack. It's just the American division of the Israel Pack. But go ahead.
Unidentified Commentator
Israel Lobby.
John from San Antonio
Yep.
Unidentified Commentator
They're American Jews, as you said.
Their mission is to support the policies of the Israeli government.
Well, I think their issue is to protect Israel. But you have to have.
No, no, no, but, Van.
Sam Cedar
Read what they're.
Unidentified Commentator
I'm happy to be corrected by you, but I'd like to make my own point, which is that the air.
Emma Vigeland
Oh, God. Getting a little touchy there. Being lectured by somebody who's actually Jewish, I guess, which I just learned about Axelrod and somebody who represents the Israel Lobby.
Sam Cedar
I mean, he. He's protecting his. His sinecure. But I mean, it's just so like.
Unidentified Commentator
But.
Sam Cedar
But this is violently obvious. It's just. It's grotesque.
Emma Vigeland
But what's the point of news analysis when all it is is for these consultants and whoever's on there, a bunch of hacks to advertise their own, like, viability for some multimillion dollar contract.
Unidentified Commentator
100%. I saw Dave Weigel and it wasn't. He was just being descriptive, but about the rise of sort of creators and streamers on the campaign trail in addition to reporters. And I'll say, like the television news in particular, print news is better, but television news has dug their own grave in that respect. Like they have complete charlatans on these programs. I mean, Jennings is just a liar. And James Carville, again, a Palantir, a guy who helped Palantir under cover of night surveil New Orleans, never brought up kind of relevant. And that's just what TV news is. It's been the case since I was a child that you should not watch that stuff.
Emma Vigeland
But Axelrod, at the very least, like, achieved something with the Obama campaign and understood that that campaign had great success on small dollar contributions. Like, in many ways, the small dollar contribution like apparatus and understanding within the American public was born out of the Obama campaign. Bernie with the $27, mainstreamed it and was actually not taking corporate interests or anything like that.
Sam Cedar
But it was actually the Dean campaign that sort of pioneered the low budget donations.
Emma Vigeland
Okay, well, then there you go.
Sam Cedar
And in fact, all the people who worked on that campaign, on the Dean campaign, both ended up working. Not all, but for Obama and then many of those people for Bernie.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, yeah, that's true. So my point is just that, like, even if Axelrod and Obama got this too with meeting with Zoron, like, at the very least they have a recognition that they have to respond to what's
Unidentified Commentator
popular, care about politics and not paychecks.
Emma Vigeland
Right. I mean, the positive guys are similar in that way in my view as well. So they actually care about winning except versus ideological capture.
Sam Cedar
It is. It is just fascinating to watch how naked the Van Jones is. Yeah, it's just. It's gross.
Emma Vigeland
I'm happy to see that Hartzell Gray is within striking distance.
Sam Cedar
It is 900 vote difference. There is 85% of the votes in. I'm trying to do the math here. You've got 19, 20, 38, 47,000.
Unidentified Commentator
I've got 97% of the votes in here on CNN.
Sam Cedar
Oh, really?
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah.
And it's Jordan Herrera at 30.2% and Hartzell at 28.8.
Sam Cedar
Oh, it's 95%.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
That just bumped up. Oh, yeah. I think it's unlikely if 95% of the votes are in at 64,000 votes. That's weird though, because there's 49,000 votes for the first three people. Herrera, Gray and Cass. And it says 64,000 reported. I don't, I don't. Oh, maybe there's just a ton of candidates. That's what it is.
Unidentified Commentator
What do you think? It's a small number.
Sam Cedar
No, no, I didn't see that. There's four other candidates who have another 15, 16,000 votes. So if 64,000 votes are 95%, then there's 5,000 votes. Let's see, 10% would be seven. I mean, there's only like 3,000 votes. X. And the idea that he'd have to do 2 to 1, that would be very, very. You know, and when you've got eight candidates, I think it's unlikely he's going to win.
Emma Vigeland
Very close, honestly. Hartzell didn't have like, any really major endorsements, I believe. Yeah, but this is another example. That's another example. I mean, look, Cori Bush felt fell short.
Unidentified Commentator
But Turner Ro Khanna.
Sam Cedar
Right.
Emma Vigeland
But no. But no Bernie. No aoc. You know, those. That's how I count some of the more major endorsements nationally.
Sam Cedar
I mean, that's astonishingly close. I mean, you know. Yeah, he's a radio guy, so he
Unidentified Commentator
probably had a lot of name recognition.
He's got to run again.
Emma Vigeland
He's run before and he's got to run again.
Sam Cedar
He's going to run and he's going to win.
Emma Vigeland
And I should say that also, you know, Hasan came in and supported him pretty aggressively as well. So just, you know, there's a lot made of like Bernie now currently has an over 50% hit rate on his endorsements. But I wonder what Hasan's endorsement rate is. It's probably pretty strong.
Sam Cedar
Was there a Will Lawrence, I think has. Has he been called?
Emma Vigeland
Let's see.
Sam Cedar
I think he's gonna win. He's been called. No, that's the republican. I don't see it on NBC.
Emma Vigeland
No, but lawrence's.
Unidentified Commentator
He's called on cnn here.
Sam Cedar
Oh, william lawrence's.
Emma Vigeland
Yay. Good news.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
We'll take.
Emma Vigeland
Love to see that.
Unidentified Commentator
He's got an 8,000 vote lead right now.
Sam Cedar
All right, that's good.
Unidentified Commentator
Seems early to call it, though. They have 50% of the votes.
Emma Vigeland
He's so far ahead. I'm looking on NBC right now. Less encouraging to see Donovan McKinney fall behind. Well, we shall see. Michigan's a slow. I forgot how slow.
Unidentified Commentator
Michigan be surprised the McKinney lost given that didn't the black caucus endorsed him. Yeah, I mean, be conservative on that.
Sam Cedar
It's. It's very early. I think in the context of the McKinney race. There's. There's.
Emma Vigeland
Oh, it's Detroit right there.
Sam Cedar
Between the two of them is low. 35,000 votes have been counted and there's an estimated number, 95,000 remaining. And there's a 2,500 vote difference at this point. So it's very difficult to assess. It's very difficult to assess. Emma, if you need some assurances, said Todd from Rollins, please know that his and her jerseys I got will keep the Rangers curse for a long time. Go Canes.
Emma Vigeland
So I shouldn't. So I should burn the ones that are there hanging up that you got for me. They were a curse.
Sam Cedar
Teacher Dan. Okay, come on. Talk about the pizza. What's on it? Where does it come from? It looks like crispy, thin New York crust. I'm high, drunk and hungry.
Emma Vigeland
It is New York. It is good pizza. It has kind of a sweeter tomato sauce, which, you know, I.
Sam Cedar
This is the one we get for every election night.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
And it's pretty good. They're good.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, it's good.
Emma Vigeland
It's very good.
Sam Cedar
It's real good.
Unidentified Commentator
I was gonna make a joke about you not mixing it up, though. Shocker that it's the same place you get the pizza from every single time
Sam Cedar
we do at night. You're being facetious.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, Isn't it? Because it's the closest place.
Sam Cedar
No, it's just like, you know, I have a. Like a habit thing.
Emma Vigeland
What's amazing is that there's a place. Really? You have a habit thing?
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah. Like, are you avoiding saying set in your ways?
Sam Cedar
I mean, it's not ocd.
Emma Vigeland
No.
Sam Cedar
It's just that if I have a pizza place that delivers it, it. Why would I switch? The only thing I switch on is snacks for Saul.
Emma Vigeland
It's the only thing you switch on?
Sam Cedar
Yeah. I never get the same snacks. Like, if I, like, one week it'll be blue corn chips, next week it'll be cassava chips. And half the stuff I bring home. He's like, this is disgusting. And I was like, well, I want to try it. So that's what it is. When I was on that shoot, I went to a Safeway and I bought chicken protein chips.
Unidentified Commentator
Oh, yeah.
Sam Cedar
And they were one of the most disgusting things I've ever, ever put in my mouth.
Unidentified Commentator
I love those things.
Sam Cedar
Are you serious?
Unidentified Commentator
I could crush them.
Yeah.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
That's really disturbing.
Unidentified Commentator
I miss California grocery stores that have all that bullshit.
Emma Vigeland
That's where I was saying that to somebody recently like that. That is where LA does, you know, laugh.
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
New York.
Emma Vigeland
Is that having Erewhon? Yeah, I mean, they're.
Unidentified Commentator
Well, he says Safeway, but.
Emma Vigeland
But I'm not even going with Erewhon. I'm going with just general grocery store Elevation. Like, Grassidi's is disgusting.
Unidentified Commentator
Well, look at.
Look at the man who owns it.
I know.
Emma Vigeland
I'm just trying to.
Unidentified Commentator
He has a fish caught in the East River.
Emma Vigeland
Even their, like, base level chains in LA are better than. Than our better chains in New York. Yeah, that's where they have one up on us.
Unidentified Commentator
Can you pull up a picture of the Grassides owner? I mean, I checked out an hour and a half ago.
Sam Cedar
So what else we got here?
Emma Vigeland
I don't know, I think we're.
Unidentified Commentator
We gotta look at this grotesque picture of Jon Katz. Amanda's.
Sam Cedar
Is that the way we're gonna wrap up the show? You don't have to.
Unidentified Commentator
Bullet.
Look at this guy.
He also is a bad man.
Right, okay, well, that makes it okay.
And not in a Stephen A. Smith way.
Emma Vigeland
He's a bad man. By the way, speaking of that bad man, did you see him calling out Anthony Fauci all day?
Sam Cedar
Stephen A. Smith.
Emma Vigeland
No, the bad man. Yeah, Rogers.
Unidentified Commentator
I saw you, Roger. Donald Trump just reposted it on True Social.
Emma Vigeland
He's such an idiot, too. Like, he's, like, railing into ESPN for not covering the Diana Rossini controversy. And it's like, this is not important. Like, the fact that this coach had an affair I think is just. I don't know. People are being really weird about the variable.
Unidentified Commentator
Even him.
They'll all shut up when he leads him to a Super Bowl.
Emma Vigeland
Well, exactly. Like, I'm, I'm. I hate the Patriots and Boston teams, but, like, I find it kind of grotesque that people are this interested in their private life. It's not that serious.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah. I mean, sports fans that aren't interested in news need to fill something.
Emma Vigeland
Well, they just want to yell at a woman and slut shame her. That's what the whole thing is. And then Aaron Rodgers goes out there like, this is my, like, crusade to call out ESPN for corruption for not slut shaming Diana Rossini. I'm like, give me a break.
Unidentified Commentator
They lied to us about. About how effective masks were.
Nathan Robinson
Right?
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
Shut up, dog. Kansas defeats the measure to elected state Supreme Court justices. I think in the main, that's actually pretty good. Having all that money play in state Supreme Court races is nasty. You know, obviously, I don't probably don't like the people who would be appointing those Kansas Supreme Court justices, but at least there's some. I don't know. At least it holds some of the politicians to account. And apparently the Republicans back that measure. Missouri have rejected a measure to limit their ballot box powers. I'm not sure I understand the details
Unidentified Caller/Commentator
of
Sam Cedar
it would have basically limited the amount, limited the power of citizens to push referendums. That's also good. What else do we have here? Susan Collins came out against Todd Blanche. Of course she has to.
Unidentified Commentator
I'll say. Can I make a note, just for media literacy, this Politics and Poll Tracker. Poll Tracker 2024. We just watched this.
Emma Vigeland
I just had that same reaction.
Unidentified Commentator
We just watched this. And the way that they summarized Bernie, what Bernie said about Hasan saying He's not comfortable with El Said's relationship. It was he specifically okay with the 911 remarks that Hasan himself has backtracked from and said he should have chosen his words differently. So I'm gonna go ahead and say mute this account for the rest. And you should probably.
Sam Cedar
Do we have that extra Max Miller thing where he came on at the tv?
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah, no, but I can get it in a second.
Sam Cedar
We're not going to hang in until the end of this race. I think it doesn't look like we
Emma Vigeland
probably won't get replaced.
Sam Cedar
Let's see where Kornacki is. Let's pull him up. Let's save the Miller thing for tomorrow because we got to be in here. We got a 12 o' clock call.
Unidentified Commentator
Voters, you know, leaving Detroit higher income they are tend to be much more Republican. Republican, you know, washed it off. So again, this is a pretty thorough victory here for John James. There'd been a lot of talk that he was in trouble. Johnson spent a ton of money going after him. It got to be a pretty heated campaign in the end. So we will see. John James twice before has been the Republican nominee for statewide office in Michigan. Twice before. He has lost. He will now try in the race for governor against Jocelyn Benson this November. And by the way, one thing certainly that the James P. People are hoping for, the Republicans are hoping for in Lansing. They believe that one of the ways to win back the state House is if the Democrats in the Senate race nominate Al Said. Remember, Mike Rogers will be the Republican candidate in that Senate race. The Republicans trying to win back the governorship believe a Democratic ticket that features Al Said would have a trickle down effect or would have an effect across the ballot. I should say that would give them. That would enhance their chances of winning the government. It would keep people away from the Democratic column. That would give. It would sort of have an effect on the entire Democratic ticket. That's the theory. You know, we'll see what ends up. If it ends up. If it ends up happening. But that's one thing the James folks are certainly thinking about as they like the rest of us watch the remaining vote coming in here in Michigan now at 40% and I'm seeing it's 3.1 is the margin, 17,000 to vote difference. I don't want to interrupt you on Oakland, but did anything come in meaningful here in the last. Yeah, I think we're complete in Mackinac. You want to take a look? There's the resort you know, ever going to. No cars allowed on Mackinac island, the Grand Hotel. So it's sort of like, look, this is, you know, we won't spend too much time Mackinac island. And then you're into the up into sort of a more, you know, rural blue collar area. So Stevens is going to win this. 49, 45. I think this was actually a place where witness Whitmer struggled in. Didn't do that well in 2018. But I may be wrong on that. Whitmer actually is a part time resident of Mackinac County. The governor has a summer residence on Mackinac Island. So she can be. They fly the flag when she's there. She got 57% of the vote here. Biden in 2020. Come on. I saw this a minute ago. Biden got 55. Right. We keep using the Clinton one, but it's not necessarily operative here. 57, 55.
Yeah.
I mean, look, it's not huge by itself, but we keep seeing smaller counties, places like this where Stevens is. She's not hitting those previous establishment wing marks. I think we got another municipality in Oakland county. We got another 10,000 votes. Stevens wins at 5,738. So, okay, Stevens won. We got a municipality. Which municipality? I'm still trying to work on that. Okay.
John from San Antonio
Yeah.
Unidentified Commentator
You think it was a completed one or. I don't want to interrupt the work. I don't try to put you on a spot. I just want to understand. Yeah, no, I mean, I generally think that's. That's kind of how they are reporting in Oakland, and that's why I say that. And we're seeing a mix of mail and election day in this most recent update. And so I think.
Sam Cedar
All right, to be fair to both these guys, they're doing what we're doing.
Unidentified Commentator
Yeah. Well.
Sam Cedar
And then watching them do it, they get their shit together and then they go. Then they go on NBC. But honestly, these guys got to pick it up because it's. We expect them to be doing the work here. So we can drink and then we drink and echo what they're saying.
Unidentified Commentator
Make fun of them.
Sam Cedar
But when they're. When they're all over the place, it makes it much harder for us to do all that.
Unidentified Commentator
Barnacles.
Sam Cedar
Everybody has a role in this not
Unidentified Commentator
making us look bad.
Steve ecosystem.
Emma Vigeland
Right.
Sam Cedar
And I get it. There's just two of them. And because, you know, NBC's not spending the money on a Tuesday night, they're not going to do that. Let's go back in and watch this.
Nathan Robinson
Okay.
Unidentified Commentator
But the one it looks like would be Royal Oak. Okay. And in Royal Oak, I have Stevens getting 37% of the vote.
Sam Cedar
Okay, okay, I'm calling it. I'm not calling the election officially.
Unidentified Commentator
Say, I'm sorry. Say three minutes to.
Sam Cedar
I said I'm not calling the election officially. And dear God, if you want to come at me that way, you're going to have to take it up with me.
Unidentified Commentator
Yes.
Sam Cedar
Wait, where's the.
Unidentified Commentator
We didn't. We. We keeping the one Michigan Fist to end the stream?
Emma Vigeland
We'll do it.
Sam Cedar
We're going to end the stream, folks. We're putting a Michigan fist in this, right. Right now.
Unidentified Commentator
I want the Michigan fist.
Sam Cedar
Yes. I want that Michigan fist.
Unidentified Commentator
I believe him.
Emma Vigeland
No one's doubting. But sincerity.
Nathan Robinson
Try it again.
Sam Cedar
You gotta wonder, though. You gotta wonder, when he's saying that, does he go like, well, I can't believe that came out of me.
Unidentified Commentator
Can't believe it went in.
No, it was a Michigan Fist that came out of him.
Emma Vigeland
What came into me and what came out of me.
Sam Cedar
I want that Michigan fist.
Unidentified Commentator
Still unclear who's going to get the Michigan fist tonight.
And it's unclear if that's the winner or loser.
Sam Cedar
Exactly. All right, well, do we want to do our predictions and then we'll come back tomorrow?
Emma Vigeland
You can do whatever you want. I'm not doing it. I'm hopeful and, you know, I'm rooting for the best outcome tonight. This could not be more important and existential for our democracy, for ending genocide. And so I am a little emotionally invested in this.
Unidentified Commentator
Give it a little bit of.
Sam Cedar
Stick it to them.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah.
Sam Cedar
And just to be clear, you're concerned that if you give a prediction, it will change the outcome of space time.
Unidentified Commentator
It's like interstellar when he's hitting the books.
Emma Vigeland
No, no, no, I'm not gonna. That movie's so dumb. What I do is smart, okay? And I don't know, I'm not sure what I'm concerned about. I just feel like making a prediction right now. It's just not where I want to put my energy.
Sam Cedar
First of all, how much energy would be involved in that?
Emma Vigeland
Emotional energy.
Unidentified Commentator
Those kind of phrases will serve you well on your next trip to la.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, well, that's what I'm saying. I'm picking that up.
Unidentified Commentator
It's not where I want to put my energy.
Emma Vigeland
Yeah, you should check how my horoscope feels about today.
Sam Cedar
Open conversation is the way of humans connecting.
Emma Vigeland
What's the alien music behind it? Is this you guys?
Unidentified Commentator
Sam, for some reason, it's me.
Sam Cedar
I. As I was playing the Theremin. But the only thing that came out.
Unidentified Commentator
He only does that somewhere over the rainbow.
Sam Cedar
That was not the one I was hoping it was.
Emma Vigeland
Folks, so, so forlorn.
Unidentified Commentator
I like the shows that we've. We have more viewers in on tonight. Like tonight that are doing actual news shows.
Yes.
Listening to a therapist.
Sam Cedar
Kornacki's numbers are going to skyrocket as soon as we sign off.
Unidentified Commentator
I was kaki know about the theremin.
Sam Cedar
Yeah. Honestly, think about it. If they had the producer in Kacki and then just a dude over there with a theremin.
Emma Vigeland
Wait, is that from Mulholland Drive? That what you were just playing?
Sam Cedar
No, it's just some dude on Therm.
Emma Vigeland
Okay.
Sam Cedar
Just googled flashback. Have you seen anybody on a Thurman? Have you? Have you ever seen a Thurman?
Unidentified Commentator
No. I have.
Sam Cedar
Benjamin's in person.
Unidentified Commentator
1103 3, 1104.
Emma Vigeland
I've seen.
Unidentified Commentator
I'm the one who has to be here at 8:30. And if it's 8:31, Sam will bust my balls for the rest of the day. Oh, look who slept in.
Sam Cedar
When Brian came in yesterday, I had Saul sitting at his desk. Oh, I was just like, I'm sorry, the new guy's here.
Emma Vigeland
And pack your bags.
Unidentified Commentator
He said the don't worry about showing up out on time. I got a new guy.
Sam Cedar
I got a new guy. It's all works cheap. Barely have to feed that guy.
Unidentified Commentator
You hear? That's all. You can ask for more.
Sam Cedar
He better be asleep. Although I'm not convinced he is. Folks, that's it for us today. Just a reminder, you can support the show by becoming a member@jointhemajorityreport.com we'll be on tomorrow at 12 noon. Sam Cedar
do all that stuff be annoying
Emma Vigeland
about us like the stream, right? I think we should encourage people to like the stream. I'm told that that increases engagement like the stream.
Sam Cedar
I mean, of course people are gonna engage and then we're gonna be off,
Emma Vigeland
but bye for like later.
Sam Cedar
It might take a strength like I to get to where I want, but I know somehow I'm gonna get there. I wasn't looking When I just got caught between the truth and the light fall the fighting out Won't make me feel any better.

| Time | Segment/Focus Summary | |-----------|-------------------------------------------------------------| | 00:00–04:00 | Introduction, context of the night, tone-setting banter | | 02:31–06:30 | The progressive vs. establishment fight—AIPAC money, early organizing, and Bernie’s legacy | | 19:43–34:49 | Interview: Sam Robinson reports live from Detroit on election mood, Obama ad controversy, union mobilization, key voter groups, and the “Gaza effect” (esp. 20:07–29:48) | | 38:34–49:42 | Interview: Nathan Robinson on Michigan as a progressive bellwether, establishment weaknesses, the future of the party (esp. 40:10–47:11) | | 51:03–58:12 | National implications—Why El-Sayed’s win redefines “electability”; establishment’s failures in organizing, messaging, and governing | | 94:00+ | Live tracking of results, geeky election banter, focusing on key counties (Oakland, Wayne, Kent) and major downballot races | | 151:39–157:04 | Cory Bush’s defeat—lessons for the left, constituent services, and the power/limits of money | | 170:36–175:49 | Media narratives—CBS and Bari Weiss asking obtuse “socialist” questions, hosts ridicule DSA “kryptonite” obsession | | 209:05+ | Bernie Sanders reacts live, slams the role of Super PAC money, and answers forced cable questions about Hasan Piker and party loyalty |
The episode captures a pivotal moment: the potential realignment of the Democratic Party away from donor- and PAC-dominated politics toward grassroots, progressive, and youth-driven energy—centered on economic populism, anti-corruption, and opposition to American complicity abroad (especially Gaza). The hosts hammer the impotence of the establishment’s old models (both in organizing and messaging), while celebrating the strategic and substantive focus of the current progressive wave. Through sharp humor and deep analysis, they render a complicated election night both accessible and electric.
