Matt Jones
This is Interrupted by Matt Jones. It's episode 15 of Interrupted by Matt Jones, presented by Cornbread Hemp. This is the good life. It's the news again. We had a great string of guests. Tommy Vitor was on, Matt Norlander, Josh Hopkins, and now. You know what, though? It's been a couple of weeks. You probably don't know what's happening in the news, since this is probably the only way you get it. So, Drew Franklin, I think it's time again to give people the news.
Drew Franklin
I'm excited to learn the news, but I want to start with a compliment. I listened to the Josh Hop Hopkins episode and as you said to our KSR listeners before, that is a must listen. And I loved every second of it. I mean, the, the rust part was, you know, very emotional and revealed things that he had never said before. And I learned more about it. But even the fun stuff was a lot of fun.
Matt Jones
So hour and 20 minutes. It was our longest one.
Drew Franklin
Got big shoes to fill here.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you do. Yeah, yeah. Don't. Don't mess up.
Drew Franklin
No, that was very good.
Matt Jones
Plus, we now have these going on video, right? So they're on. So subscribe. It's KSR, the show on YouTube. You know, we're, we, we're realizing you should get on YouTube only 20 years later than everyone else. I'm like, you know that YouTube thing that might stick.
Drew Franklin
I think they're going somewhere.
Matt Jones
I think, you know what, you might want to have a presence on there. So it's ksr, the show. We do not have a interrupted only feed, but that's okay because it's on there in the Hopkins interviews there, and they're all there now. Billy is here. He has 10 news items. I have a friend who listens to this podcast regularly who said that he thought Billy's news is, is. Was. Was a little depressing the last time, but again, he can't help like it. It's the news. It is. So we'll see if it's going to be as depressing this time. I hope Billy is trying to bring some joy to an otherwise dark world.
Drew Franklin
And I'm in a really good mood today. Kill my day if this is just nothing but sad stories.
Matt Jones
So there's 10 stories. Hopefully it's not 10 different forms of sadness, but let's go ahead. It's time for the news.
Billy
Yeah, it's going to be a little less morbid today, but we're. We're going to start a little morbid.
Matt Jones
We have to.
Billy
It's the news of Course.
Matt Jones
Okay. Well, I mean, it is what it is.
Billy
So why don't we start with the man who opened fired into a midtown Manhattan building.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Billy
And that. Where four people died, including a police officer. The shooter was believed to be targeting the NFL and the NFL headquarters. He went up to the 33rd floor, which was the wrong floor, before he ended up taking his life. But he also had a note on him that alluded to that he felt that he had CTE and blamed the NFL for covering up traumatic brain injury in the National Football League. He did not. No.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Billy
But he does believe he did have cte. He said on the note to please study my brain, but blames the NFL for a lot of the. The negativity and the injuries that he has had in the past despite. Despite never being in the NFL.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Well, first of all, that was, you know, that part of New York right there, it's on, like, 51st and park, is an area that I'm in all the time. Like, that's right. Couple blocks from Simon and Schuster where I wrote my book and spent, like, six months. So I know that area very well. I cannot picture drew what it would have been like if you were on the street that day. And he had that weapon, because, I mean, that was a. Like a. From Scarface weapon. Like, it was a huge gun. And if you notice in the one screenshot that got sent to the public, no one was around, which says to me. Because that was like rush hour, it says to me, everybody's seen him and had run away. Is that kind of what you. I would think so.
Drew Franklin
That was no small rifle.
Billy
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean, that was stories that even.
Drew Franklin
Parked it and pulled it out of his trunk. And it was almost nonchalant how he's going about it.
Matt Jones
And then obviously, the officer was off duty and a security guard, and that's tragic. He has two kids, another one on the way. I saw that, like, the Portnoy barstool drives, like, $600,000 for his family, which is awesome. You know, the videos of, like, the barricade people set up all. I mean, you know, I think sometimes if you don't live in New York, it's hard to picture how big. I mean, there are thousands of people that work in those buildings. And to think about how they were barricaded, some of them were stuck in their offices until, like, 11 or 12 at night. That's just got to be insane.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. And I'm like, you. I was there a month ago, that exact block, walking past that building. And that should Be just a harmless area to walk through. It's busy, but you're not too far from Times Square in midtown and very populated area. And in no circumstances should someone be walking down the street with a rifle leading to a tragedy like this. Just absolutely sad. And the people inside, you know, I can't. You think about the people outside, how crazy that is. But when you're in there and there's only a few elevators, you're just kind of sitting there hoping it's not your floor or that he doesn't come to you. It's kind of helpful.
Matt Jones
Okay. So I saw some idiot on Fox News said that. He was like, this is why every American needs mixed martial arts training. You think? Look it up. Some dude said this, and he was like. Because then in situations like this, someone could have taken him down. Now I'm going to throw the challenge flag. I think you get in to, like, a UFC fight, if that guy has a gun, it's not gonna really matter how much mixed martial martial arts training I have, by the way. The answer is how much I have is none. Let's say you were walking down the street and you see that guy. What are you doing? You just taking off running? Yeah.
Drew Franklin
First, no circumstances am I putting my karate to the test. There's an old saying, bringing a knife to a gunfight, I'm definitely not bringing my feet that are not trained or my fists.
Matt Jones
You're not bringing these two hands?
Drew Franklin
No, but seriously, I mean, yes, I'm getting out of there quickly. Any. With any, even strangers, you know, trying to get out of there. But you're also at the same try and probably calling or trying to get law enforcement as quickly as you can.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
You know, they're in New York. In that area, law enforcement's probably right around the corner, already on the scene. But if not, it's a smaller case. I'm making sure I'm getting a hold of someone that can get like.
Matt Jones
You're running?
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I am not going near it. And no one should with someone carrying a rifle like that.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, I. I am amazed. I feel like in most those situations, everyone is running. Like, very few people are going, what can I do about this? Most people are running. If it's. It's human nature. Right. Then when you're in the building, I can't imagine being in the building, because you got to remember there's a period of time where you don't, like. It's not like it's on the news yet. You know, it's just You. And you're probably not getting a lot of information and whatever channels there are to get information, there's a lot of people trying to access them. I just. That's gotta be terrifying. I did see, though, the one office where they put, like, couches and stuff over the door.
Billy
Oh, yeah. It was a lot.
Drew Franklin
A lot of couches.
Matt Jones
A lot of couches. Very ingenious, I guess. Is that what you. Is that the thing to do? Just take all the couches and barricade.
Drew Franklin
The door and you probably get an adrenaline rush where you don't even need help carrying those couches. I mean, I'm sure that people around there just gathered and just muscle. They didn't know they had. Are pulling furniture towards that door and piling it up on top of each other. Yeah, but it's the uncertainty of. For the news even out just knowing he's in your building. But there's all those floors, and you don't know if your floor is on the list or he's headed your way.
Matt Jones
And leaving is not safe necessarily. I mean, it might be safe, but you don't know if it's safe. So you don't. You don't know. Can I get in the elevator? Can I get. Stairwell? I guess the safest thing is just to stay where you are.
Drew Franklin
Furniture wall.
Matt Jones
But I think so. When I saw the furniture wall, I remember being like, that's odd. But now, after thinking of all the possibilities, I think the furniture wall is the way to go, isn't it?
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I mean, it's sad that you would even have to think of what you would do in that situation. But that's the world we live in now, and the one that happened there in a tall building like that where you don't have anywhere to go, I don't know what else you could do.
Matt Jones
I don't know what you would do either. And I do think it's obviously a tragedy. And prayers to everyone involved. And, Billy, the allegation that you were going to be sad in your start, I don't think you've done anything to refute in story number one.
Billy
Well, I'd like to argue that might be the only morbid story of the story.
Drew Franklin
So we led with it.
Billy
So. Yes. So while it is the most important.
Matt Jones
Story of today, I think there's got to be other morbid stories out there. So you're not doing any more morbid stories. All right. I'll be the judge of whether or not any more of these are morbid. Maybe you just have a perverse sense of what is morbid or not. But that's story one. Tell me what story two is.
Billy
All right, on to number two. Let's talk about Trump's tariffs again. We got so much reaction from the first time we talked about it. Let's do it again. Uh, it's the news. President Trump on Tuesday set a $10 or 10 day deadline.
Matt Jones
$10 tariff.
Billy
No, no, no.
Matt Jones
He's going to raise $10 every country.
Billy
We'll get to tariffs in a second when it. Regarding Mexico, but let's talk about Russia for a second. President Trump on Tuesday set a 10 day deadline for Russia to reach a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine or else risk secondary sanctions. The deal must be done by August 8th. If you remember in July, Trump said if Russia doesn't agree to a ceasefire within 50 days, the United States would impose tariffs up to 100% on goods sold by countries that do business with Russia.
Matt Jones
So what is the deadline now?
Billy
It is 10 days from when Trump said it. So that is close to August 8th.
Matt Jones
Normally he says two weeks from now. That's his go to. His go to is always. They'll be like, what are we going to do in two weeks? It's going to be in two weeks. He really likes the two weeks. Now it's 10 days. Of course, no one believes that, right? Like, no one believes there's. I mean, he, he always caves. Like, is your other story about the Mexico thing?
Billy
Yeah, yeah. So the Mexico one is that they have delayed higher tariffs going into effect for Mexico. This was supposed to happen within the week. It is now 90 days before Trump will implement this. Higher.
Matt Jones
He tweeted out, or somebody said yesterday, tomorrow's the deadline. And he was like, it will not be extended. And then it was extended the next day. So they're calling him Taco.
Drew Franklin
I saw this. I mean, I know the Mexico reference, but is there more to the taco?
Matt Jones
The taco is. I think it stands for Trump always chickens out.
Drew Franklin
Oh, okay. I didn't. I've seen Taco.
Billy
I didn't hear that.
Matt Jones
I think I could be wrong about this. I think it is. Trump always chickens out because he always says he's going to do this and then he doesn't. And then sometimes he comes up with deals and then they ask the other side and they're like, no, that happened with one of my. It was Japan. He was like, japan has agreed to spend 90 bajillion dollars in America. And they were like, that's not even a number.
Drew Franklin
Haven't even talked to him.
Matt Jones
Wrong number.
Drew Franklin
Haven't heard from him.
Matt Jones
So, you know, tariffs are stupid. That's one thing conservatives and I agree on. Real conservatives. Now, other conservatives don't like. They're stupid. It's just a tax on Americans. But I do like the fact that. Do you like Taco as a nickname?
Drew Franklin
I giggled because, like I said, I had seen references to taco. Like, a news story will pop up and the mentions will just be like, taco, Taco, Taco. But I did not know the acronym there.
Matt Jones
Yeah. And because he did the taco thing. What was the taco thing? Didn't he like there was something with him and tacos. Right. What was it?
Drew Franklin
I don't know. I just keep seeing people say, it's Taco Thursday. The Mexico news.
Matt Jones
Yeah. There was something when he first started about tacos. He.
Drew Franklin
Oh, yes. Yeah. Yeah, he did, did he?
Matt Jones
He said he had the best tacos in America at Trump Tower or something. Right.
Drew Franklin
Something with Trump Tower.
Matt Jones
Something with Trump Tower and tacos a long time ago. But. But anyway, you know, when he.
Drew Franklin
The best taco bowls are made in Trump Tower, he tweeted a picture, happy. And it says, I love Hispanics. Happy Cinco.
Matt Jones
That's right. He did say, I love Hispanics. A picture of him eating a Taco Bell. He said, I love his. See, here's the problem with Trump is that, unfortunately, he's funny. And that really, for people like me who don't like his policies, that's tough, because he's funny. And so there's a level of which Americans just like to be entertained. And he gets away with stuff in part because people think it's funny and. Yeah. I mean, that dance. That dance is.
Drew Franklin
So why did you play the accordion?
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, you remember when Nancy Pelosi was wearing all the, like, African gear on during Black Lives Matter, and she looks so repeated, ridiculous, and rightfully should have been mocked. But I feel like Trump could do whatever and that, and people be like, oh, he's just. Look at him. Yeah. Does that whole dance, like, it's just so. It's so ridiculous. But the problem was, when he ran Drew, he said, I will end the Russia, Ukraine war in one day. That hasn't happened. But, I mean, it was never gonna happen. Right.
Drew Franklin
A little behind on a few promises. We talked about the list a few weeks ago.
Matt Jones
Yeah, the Epstein list. That's. Is that on your list of news?
Billy
It's not, but I wish I took back my opinion that I said on the podcast the week that we did it.
Matt Jones
What did you say after I said.
Billy
I believe the government.
Matt Jones
That's right. You did say that.
Billy
I was like, well, there must be no list. If they said that. There isn't. And it's. Ever since then, it's been nothing.
Matt Jones
Anybody at this point who I think I saw, maybe this number is made up, but I think I saw 82% of Americans think that things are being hidden by this and only 4% don't. But yet it seems like there's a disproportionate amount of politicians that are like, it's all good.
Billy
Nothing to see.
Matt Jones
What are you talking about? This is old news.
Drew Franklin
This seems to be one of the biggest things that have united America.
Matt Jones
Honestly, America can really unite only on. Come on. There has to be more.
Drew Franklin
I haven't seen, you know, both sides come together. Everybody's like, all right, just give us something. Whatever it is, let us know. Then we'll figure it out. Let the chips fall where they may.
Matt Jones
And then they're like, well, let's. We're going to interview that woman, and then it'll be salt. Well, I mean, she's in prison. If nothing happened, why is she in prison? Right. Clearly something happened. She's in prison. And then. Do you think they will pardon her? Because I do now. And I would have never thought that was plausible. I really didn't. I would have never thought that's plausible. But I am starting to think he's going to pardon her in exchange for her saying that he didn't have anything to do with it. I kind of feel like that's where we're headed on this.
Drew Franklin
So low, though. I mean, these are crimes against children that she's involved with. To pardon that.
Matt Jones
I kind of think that's where this is headed. Okay, so then Bill Clinton was clearly, like, on the plane or. It's hard to even know what the news is on this, but Bill Clinton certainly had a relationship with him. Can I just go on record as saying, like, if Bill Clinton's involved, and I'm not saying he is, but if he is, he should be in trouble, too. Like, I don't know any Democrat that's like. But please leave out Bill Clinton. Right.
Drew Franklin
No. Anybody involved?
Matt Jones
Anyone involved. I mean, Billy, you. You are not. You're like a neutral person on this. You've got to think this is ridiculous, right?
Billy
Yeah, it's bizarre. It's gotten to a point where there has to be something behind the curtain. But Trump keeps saying that, like, Bill Clinton and Hillary and these Obama, they all wrote the Epstein files.
Matt Jones
What Is that why would Bill be in the ran saying, let's release the Epstein files. Files. Right. Am I wrong about that? He said it, then he came in and then they said there are no Epstein files. And now he's saying they wrote the Epstein files. So how about just an initial answer? Are there files?
Billy
Yeah, it's just hard to follow. So you got to think there's something nefarious going on, at least in my mind.
Matt Jones
And Obama wrote that. Obama wasn't even president when this happened. I mean, people realize that Obama was already out of office when all of this happened. I mean, some of the acts I think happened. But like he was. He pled guilty when Trump was president.
Drew Franklin
I'm just wondering, like, let's assume they're like a name, not an actual. We wrote down those. The people involved. Like, if it was Trump or Republicans, then why wouldn't the Democrats want that out? And if it's the Democrats involved, why wouldn't the Republicans want it? So it's. Is it, I guess, almost a little sprinkling of both. If there is really stuff in there.
Matt Jones
First of all, I think it's. This is my opinion, with no knowledge. I think it is less nefarious than people think. Like, I think people think there's going to be a list that's going to have like, Cardi B And Luke Bryan.
Drew Franklin
Tom Hanks is a popular.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, there's going to be all these. I don't think that's going to exist. I kind of think that doesn't exist. But I think there's probably stuff in there that makes friends of both Republicans and Democrats look bad. Maybe even some prominent people. And maybe this is my opinion now, maybe those people have stuff. I don't necessarily know if Trump or Bill Clinton's on it, but my guess, it's just a guess. Some of the people on it have stuff on these people and they're worried about. That's just a guess, but that's my guess.
Drew Franklin
Just a little bit of blackmail all around, everywhere.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Drew Franklin
Keeping everybody in check and in line.
Matt Jones
Do you, Billy, think like, it needs to come out?
Billy
I think, yeah. But will it. Probably not.
Matt Jones
What do you think happens if he pardons this woman? Because I think he's going to.
Billy
I think we would go crazy.
Matt Jones
Who's we?
Billy
I guess the royal we, the United States, the people, the populace we, the people we.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but when you say people will go crazy, don't Trump's hardest defenders defend him no matter what?
Billy
Yes. Mental gymnastics.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, they'll Defend whatever he does. There's like 40% of America that will defend anything he does.
Billy
Yeah, but I would argue there's a lot of conservatives that are out on Trump after this Epstein stuff.
Matt Jones
You think so? Yeah. Okay. I think there are some. I don't know how many that is.
Drew Franklin
But I know there are a lot of people that will talk themselves into something he's done to support it. But if he were to pardon and excuse what she did, I mean, that's, that's.
Matt Jones
That.
Drew Franklin
You can't. That's horrible behavior. That's the lowest of the low.
Matt Jones
So what happens when they bring. Because they're going to do this in September, they bring a resolution that says release the Epstein files.
Billy
Okay.
Matt Jones
Do you think people are. Do you think there will be people who will vote no?
Billy
Yes.
Matt Jones
That. How can you vote?
Drew Franklin
How can you explain that?
Matt Jones
How do you look at people and say, nah? And I do. Like Trump was like, let's release the Martin Luther King Jr. File. Was anybody asking for that?
Drew Franklin
No. We got the files we want right here.
Matt Jones
Let's see those.
Billy
Look over here.
Matt Jones
Look over here.
Drew Franklin
Maybe later after we look at these.
Matt Jones
And by the way, what was in those? They released all. Was there anything in them? I haven't heard one more thing about them.
Drew Franklin
No. I don't know.
Billy
It'd be bigger news if there was something.
Matt Jones
I would think so.
Drew Franklin
Is it on Billy's list of topics?
Billy
It's not.
Matt Jones
Well, then it's not news. So anyway, Taco.
Drew Franklin
Taco.
Billy
I had not heard. Taco.
Matt Jones
What do you think about the cheating of the golf?
Drew Franklin
Is there a new one?
Matt Jones
No, no, the old one.
Drew Franklin
Oh, well, the, the.
Matt Jones
You like that?
Drew Franklin
The guy playing head. Yeah. You have read the goalie wrote a book called Commander and Cheat. I loved it.
Matt Jones
You read it too?
Billy
I read the whole book.
Drew Franklin
You know, I'm someone that doesn't care for anything political. I would never read just a book about politics. But this one was strictly golf. It didn't even really tap into anything political. It was just how he cheats in golf and loved it.
Matt Jones
So, last Trump point, how good do we think he is at golf? Like for real, how good is he?
Drew Franklin
I saw him hit the ceremonial tee shot at his new course in Scotland and the account said, Trump ropes a 290 yard drive.
Matt Jones
Stop.
Drew Franklin
I look at it, it was not 290, but it was a good drive for an 80 year old. Why are you saying it's 300? Just because he did hit it down the middle.
Matt Jones
You are exactly right. He is 80 years old. I don't think anybody expects him to be Tiger. Why can't he just be. I'm good for 80.
Drew Franklin
He is good for 80.
Matt Jones
Good for it.
Drew Franklin
Probably went to 20 that. And it went down the middle. If that. You say that's 220 down the middle. That's good for an 80 year old.
Matt Jones
But when you're telling me, say 290. Because no one believes that.
Billy
Well, because.
Matt Jones
Or are there people that do believe it?
Billy
Well, in the book, he has, like, 20 club championships because he plays the first round of every course that he opens. I mean, there is a facade of, you know, he's this 60s golfer, but he's not. There's nothing to be ashamed about it.
Matt Jones
Being an 80s golfer, you're very adamant anti cheating in golf. I'm more liberal about my golf cheating.
Billy
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
But I understand.
Billy
Yeah, I. I understand the role of a caddy at a country club. And there needs to be some liberties that probably take place when the owner of the club is who you're caddying for. But like, yeah, I am. I'm for the rules.
Matt Jones
See, I. Here's what's weird about me with golf. I am most interested in cheating to my own brain. Okay? This. There's a psychology to this. I don't. I would never, like, drop a ball to make Drew think I played well. I would drop a ball because I can't accept to myself that I didn't hit it. Well, does that make sense?
Billy
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So you wouldn't see me. I wouldn't come on and go, I shot 75. But I might convince myself I shot.
Drew Franklin
You're not doing it to gain a competitive advantage on me.
Matt Jones
It's more about making myself feel better because, like, when I hit a really bad shot, I get angry at myself. And so I think it's odd. I would rather go publicly and go, yeah, I hit it in the woods. But in my mind, I would go, I think I hit it in the fairway. And I think Trump is like the exact opposite. Trump doesn't think he ever cheated, and it's important for him to tell the public that he's good.
Drew Franklin
There's stories in that book where the tournament would end and he would play the following day and turn in his score and win. He knew the lowest score that was turned into the clubhouse. And then he couldn't make it Sunday, so he would play Monday.
Matt Jones
Didn't he win one even? He didn't play. He said, I would have shot.
Billy
Yes. Phoned it in.
Drew Franklin
Phoned in a club championship.
Matt Jones
I love The I would have shot. That's like a whole. Like, I would. Trust me, had I played, I would have shot 68.
Drew Franklin
My elbow's bugging me. I can't play. But put me down for 63.
Billy
But you did shoot 84 at Bethpage Black Matt.
Matt Jones
88.
Billy
88.
Matt Jones
88. Yes. And I did. And I promise you what Took a second on the first tee.
Billy
That's fine.
Matt Jones
So I took a. I took a breakfast ball, but I promise you that's what I shot. And from like 69, 90 or what? It was just like slightly under 7,000 and I. It was the best I've ever played. That course is.
Billy
Is a beast Rider Cups this year.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Now, I wasn't at those tees where they're going to play, but. And you can ask the two random dudes from Long Island I played with. And just so you know, I've saved their number so that. No, you think.
Billy
Well, don't tempt me.
Matt Jones
Oliver's number is in here. And if I ever get. This is the. If I ever run for office and people think I've cheated, call Oliver. He's in my phone. Is Oliver Islanders. Because we. I went to a New York Islanders game with him.
Billy
Oh, maybe next fade this. We could do that.
Drew Franklin
Skeptic could say he kept his number to keep paying him off. Stay in touch. Keep the story straight.
Matt Jones
The Beth Page files, they will never be released. They're old news. What's next?
Billy
All right, I heard someone mention Nancy Pelosi. She's involved in this next story. GOP Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri joined Democrats Wednesday to advance legislation that would ban members of Congress from buying, selling, or owning individual stocks. In an 8 to 7 vote, Hawley and Senate Democrats on the U.S. senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government affairs voted this legislation out of the committee. There is skepticism that if it will ever get a floor vote in the House, but they are calling it Drew. You may like this. The Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning securities and Investments act. Or the Pelosi Act.
Matt Jones
That is very clever. I mean that, like. I think Holly named it that. You making the initials B.E. pelosi is brilliant.
Drew Franklin
I'm actually going to clap for that.
Matt Jones
That really is brilliant. What was it called again? The Preventing.
Billy
Preventing Elected Leaders From Owning securities.
Matt Jones
So what's that? He has an F.
Billy
Preventing Elected Leaders from.
Matt Jones
They did from. But Owning securities and Investments Act. Gosh, they got. They should have just left out the front. Preventing Elected officials.
Billy
Elected leaders.
Matt Jones
Elected leaders from owning. They got to have the. From, I guess, prevented letting Leaders owning.
Drew Franklin
I would have left the from out.
Matt Jones
Prevented elective leaders owning securities. Why did he need the from?
Billy
I don't know. I think they could have gone with it. They have since changed the name to the Honest Act.
Matt Jones
No, they did. Yes, they changed it. Yeah, they didn't. I bet the little whiny Democrats made them change it.
Billy
Yeah, but in the biggest it probably.
Matt Jones
Should be because she is the worst about it.
Billy
But she is for it. She is for transparency.
Drew Franklin
She'll be the goat. Yeah, Michael Jordan wanted to get rid.
Matt Jones
Of this and she's all right. Look, no Democrat can look in the mirror and say that she and Mitch McConnell are the king and queen. The king and queen of this. To me this is a no brainer. People in Congress should not be able to buy and sell stocks. If they own stocks it should be put in a trust and they cannot touch it. And no one like it has to stay the way it is until you're done. And if you don't like that, don't run. Right? If you don't like it, don't run. They get information nobody else has. How are they allowed to buy and sell stock?
Drew Franklin
And there's so many examples of they'll buy something in a week later. Oh, here comes the news.
Matt Jones
I mean there are now AI accounts that just track what Nancy Pelosi buys and sells.
Drew Franklin
I have a confession. There's a ticker P A N W. I don't know what the company does. I know nothing about it. I follow the Pelosi tracker and I just happened to see when it popped up that she just bought. So I bought two, made about 20% and got out. Still have no idea what that company does. But the Pelosi tracker made me a little bit, made me a little bit of money. Just follow her lead.
Matt Jones
So who could be against this? Well explain to me. So I think it passed 8, 7. Josh Holly is a Republican, only Republican.
Billy
That voted for it.
Matt Jones
And then but how, how do they justify being against it?
Billy
So Republican Senator Rick Scott is who.
Matt Jones
By the way is another. He's like made $500 million. I mean it's some crazy amount that may not be the exact. But he is like he and Pelosi should be in the hall of fame of doing this but go ahead, have his own wing.
Billy
He was, he was not born wealthy and is now worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Go figure. He agrees that lawmakers shouldn't be trading stocks. But he defended the ability of members of Congress to be rich and called a tax on the wealthy Disgusting.
Matt Jones
The dude got into politics broke, and now is worth $500 million. How can he think that's good?
Drew Franklin
Just in trading stocks. Last year, Pelosi made 25 million in one year. Only on trading stocks.
Matt Jones
I'm telling you, anyone against this is corrupt. They are. There's no way you. You have access to information that no one else does. You should not be able to do it. And people who say, well, now you won't get rich people in politics. Good. If you're only running for office to make yourself money, you shouldn't be in it anyway.
Drew Franklin
2024, just on trading, Congress was up 133 million people that were trading.
Matt Jones
Oh, wow.
Billy
They were up. Who would have thought?
Drew Franklin
It's a pretty good return. I'm lucky to get, like, 7%.
Billy
Meanwhile, Robinhood won't even let me withdraw my account.
Matt Jones
What do you mean?
Billy
Well, remember the GameStop stuff?
Matt Jones
So you still can't get money.
Billy
I'm saying, in general, people were not allowed to.
Matt Jones
Yeah. During that GameStop stuff.
Billy
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Well, to me, Josh Hawley is exactly right. You know, they're now considering doing it, but, like, putting a thing that. It doesn't apply to Trump.
Drew Franklin
See that? I mean, some of this stuff is just so obvious that everyone not involved, all of us should be like, no, this is ridiculous.
Matt Jones
I heard Rand Paul go, you know, if you. If you don't do that, if you do this, there'll be some people who won't want to run, and we'll lose. Good people. Good, good. Right.
Drew Franklin
How much of the population has hundreds of millions of dollars?
Matt Jones
Too much.
Drew Franklin
Too much, but not a majority. So if we do have some regular folk in there, that won't be the worst thing.
Matt Jones
Well, I hope it passes. They'll find a way, I'm sure, to not pass it. But to me, if we were to pass. All in favor say aye.
Drew Franklin
Aye.
Matt Jones
Aye.
Billy
Aye.
Matt Jones
Mario, you don't have a microphone, but that's okay. It's four. Oh. In this.
Drew Franklin
But Nancy, if you have any tips.
Matt Jones
You talked about things that could unify everybody. This is one who's. I mean, what regular person's against what regular person's. Like, I need Nancy Pelosi and Rick Scott to make more money. That's what I want.
Billy
Pelosi act and Epstein, I mean, two things bringing us together.
Matt Jones
You want to bring America together. Pelosi act, Epstein, get rid of paper straws. We are all. We all come together.
Drew Franklin
Are you going to run?
Matt Jones
No. What's next?
Billy
All right, let's go to another figure we talk about frequently on this show. Elon Musk. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced Monday a public private partnership with the Boring Company, a tunnel construction firm owned by our guy, Elon Musk. The plan is to build an underground tunnel between Nashville's airport and a undisclosed area downtown. The Boring Company, who will cover the entire construction build, by the way, will allow only Tesla vehicles to make the trip under the. I guess under the existing traffic that already exists in Nashville. The trip should take about eight to 10 minutes. It's the second tunnel constructed in the United States by the Boring Company, the first being in Las Vegas in 2021. But despite all this, there is no budget. There is no precise route or timeline presented. But Governor Lee is touting this plan as the future of commuting.
Matt Jones
Okay, so let me go back. Who pays for this? The public or the. Or to Elon?
Billy
No. Elon.
Drew Franklin
$0.
Matt Jones
So Elon pays for it, and it allows people to go underground.
Billy
Correct.
Matt Jones
In a tunnel. But only Teslas.
Billy
Only Teslas. And this is from the airport to a undisclosed downtown area, which is where.
Matt Jones
They keep the Epstein files. Okay, so. Well, first of all, if it was public money, definitely not. But I would assume, and maybe I'm wrong, but you're going to be going under property people own. You think that's correct?
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah. You have to.
Matt Jones
And there would be no way you could construct this without disrupting people's lives.
Billy
Oh, yeah. They said the terrain in Nashville is much different than Vegas. There's a lot more rock and limestone that they'd have to go through. So it'd be a much bigger endeavor than the.
Matt Jones
So are you gonna. They just gonna tell people, get out of your yard. We have to drill?
Drew Franklin
No, I saw them do it in Vegas. It, like, goes in the ground and digs underground. Now, there's videos where, like, the streets kind of bounce and maybe concrete cracks, but it, like, goes under and digs beneath the street.
Matt Jones
Really? They can do that?
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Wow. So you. So in theory, they're saying if you were on the ground, you wouldn't feel it.
Drew Franklin
Now, the video I saw, the ground was shaking a little. But they're not taking over your yard and digging or anything. You could just. You knew that the.
Matt Jones
So what do you think about the idea of allowing a road that's just for one kind of car?
Billy
That's what I don't like about this story. I mean, I get Elon's building it, but the fact it's only Tesla's. I mean, I don't know.
Matt Jones
Aren't we setting a precedent though. Rich people just are creating their own infrastructure, right?
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Well, he have full control of this, what have you.
Matt Jones
Just like this part of the sky only can be flown. Maybe that already exists, I don't know.
Billy
Only satellites from the boring company can go up into this area of space.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I don't like it, but I can't totally articulate why.
Drew Franklin
I would like it better.
Matt Jones
That's got to cost a zillion dollars, doesn't it?
Billy
Sure. I'm sure.
Drew Franklin
I would like it better if like it wasn't just a private entity that did it and even if the public had paid for it, just make it like another road. But unfortunately Elon is the only one that can do it right now. Yeah, I don't like giving him all of underneath Nashville and only his cars can be on it.
Matt Jones
I feel like in 50 years there's going to be like 10 rich people that run the world and they're going to be more powerful than governments and that's bad. So things that lead that to happen, I'm against. So like I, I understand you could go. Well, it's his right if he wants to pay for it and if he wants to make it. But do we really want to set up a world where 10 people decide everything and they're beyond the reach of government? I don't know.
Drew Franklin
And I'm with Billy. Even though he's offering to do it for free, it feels gross that all his cars can be on it because it's just going to further enrich him and spiral the speed up. The problem of him even having more power.
Billy
Yeah. You want a 10 minute ride to downtown, just jump in this Tesla $300, you know, or you can get in a cab and wait 40 minutes to actually get to where you want to go.
Matt Jones
And there'll be a class distinction which is poor people will be poor and middle class people will be taking the cab.
Billy
Yep.
Matt Jones
And the rich people will get their own roads. I generally believe that even though I really don't like Trump, he is not my biggest worry for the future because he will, he's old. He will not be president forever. He will die. I am much more worried about the Elon's, Zuckerberg's, Peter Thiel's, these people, these billionaires who are becoming more powerful than government. That really worries me because what are you going to do about it? Like what you in theory, you can vote Trump out of office. What are you going to do about these people? You can't vote Mark Zuckerberg. Out of office.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Even though it's getting a little messy. In politics, there's supposed to be some checks and balances, but if it's just five gajillionaires, we're just at their mercy.
Matt Jones
And we had that story in your last news report where he was like, yeah, humans. 50. 50 on them.
Billy
Oh, yeah. The guy that wouldn't answer when he was like, yeah.
Matt Jones
He's like, yeah, humans.
Billy
Do you want to preserve humanity?
Matt Jones
Could go either way. Depends on how I'm feeling. So I. So, all right. You're the governor of Tennessee. You allowing this or not? No, I'm not. Are you?
Billy
Yeah. Yeah, I think so.
Matt Jones
You are?
Billy
Yeah.
Matt Jones
For what purpose?
Billy
Tout myself as a, you know, ahead of the curve innovator. He used it like the future of.
Drew Franklin
Commerce, but nobody's gonna remember the governor.
Matt Jones
The future of commerce? Is that what he said?
Billy
No, not commerce. But. What is it? Commuting is, I think, the word.
Matt Jones
So will he let anyone do it? Like, can I do it?
Billy
The future of commuting?
Matt Jones
Yeah. Can I have my own tunnel?
Billy
If you got enough money to go through the whole.
Matt Jones
But is that what it is? Everyone that has enough money can get their own tunnel?
Billy
Yes. I guess it's the American dream. You make enough money.
Drew Franklin
What are the limits on the tunnel? Can I just build a whole underground city?
Matt Jones
And there are only so many. There's only so much land. Mm. I don't know. I don't like it. What's next? How.
Drew Franklin
How much of my land do I own? Going down? Is that a thing?
Matt Jones
Well, so you own. It's a legal thing. You own all the rights up to the sky and down to the core, sort of. Because, like, you can't charge planes for flying above you.
Drew Franklin
So there are exceptions, but they're not cutting into my. My soil.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but there are exceptions, and I do. People will sue him for this, I'm sure. But there is a. That's why I have. People have oil rights, like, all the way down to the. In Texas, the law is to the sky and to the core. But it's also like. But you can't stop planes from going under there.
Drew Franklin
But planes aren't really doing anything but flying over you. This is digging up tunnels under the ground.
Matt Jones
But Tennessee makes the laws. They can just say you don't have a right to. To do it.
Drew Franklin
So I'm out.
Matt Jones
What's next? You know, Clayton and Croom was founded on a simple idea. All leather goods should last a lifetime. They make everything from bags, belts, wallets, and much more. And the best part, they're doing it right here in Kentucky. You can check them out. Clayton and croom.com. that's C R U M E dot com. Or you can visit their flagship retail store in Louisville at 216 S. Shelby St. That's in Nulu. It's Clayton and chrome quality leather goods. Built to last.
Billy
All right, let's shift gears and talk about the American Eagle ad that was released this past week with Sydney Sweeney. If you don't know who that is, you've been living under a rock. Or you're Ryan Lemon. 27 year old euphoria star Sydney Sweeney finds herself in controversy after a recent American Eagle ad. Sweeney, in a denim on denim fit, dabbles in some wordplay, telling the cameras jeans are passed down from parent to offspring. The often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My genes are blue. The sensual tone and the campaign paired.
Matt Jones
She's saying people like pass their blue jeans down to each other. Or is it like a play on words?
Drew Franklin
Play on words.
Billy
Okay, so the jeans. Jeans thing here, along with the sensual tone compared with the.
Matt Jones
Was it sensual?
Billy
Well, it was a little bit.
Matt Jones
Sydney Sweeney, what made it sensual?
Drew Franklin
I think Billy's getting into this read over here.
Matt Jones
Did not sound sensual to me.
Billy
Well, I'm trying to read my own handwriting here, so we're doing our best. But she's also seen in this ad as the archetype of good genes. This has created a lot of controversy with a blonde woman with blue eyes being held up not just as the beauty ideal, but at the pinnacle of good breeding. Bordered on.
Matt Jones
Who said that?
Billy
Some commentators. A lot of people.
Matt Jones
Commentators.
Billy
Well, I don't have the source in front of me here, but.
Matt Jones
Well, here's the reason I asked that. I keep reading that this is controversial and that people are mad. Yeah, but I haven't heard anyone be mad.
Billy
Oh, they're out there.
Matt Jones
Who?
Drew Franklin
I guess the mad people.
Billy
The mad people.
Matt Jones
Who are those people? The liberal media talkers think.
Billy
Well, they're people too, man. I mean, they have an opinion.
Matt Jones
So anytime a nut has an opinion, we have to deal with it.
Billy
Yeah, but that doesn't mean you have to give any credence to their opinion.
Matt Jones
You're the one that put it in the news.
Billy
Oh, there's a lot of people that have this opinion. And I want the people.
Matt Jones
The people.
Drew Franklin
We the people.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right, go ahead.
Billy
White, thin, blonde woman with blue eyes is being held as the standard of good genetics. People.
Drew Franklin
I can't imagine caring this much about an American Eagle ad. If people are complaining.
Matt Jones
I didn't even know American Eagle was still.
Drew Franklin
That was my.
Matt Jones
I really didn't. I did not. Until her ad. I did not know there still was American Eagle.
Drew Franklin
I can't even put myself where I would have a single emotion about an American Eagle ad. Just anyone. Just keep living your life. It's American Eagle. Who cares?
Matt Jones
I still, though I have looked for. Who is mad. I did look at this because I kept hearing. I saw the. Like, Trump put out a statement, and I was like. So here's what I thought. What idiot on my side put this out? Because this is the kind of thing that makes people hate us. And all I could find were random people on TikTok going, Sydney Sweeney, how you gonna be looking? Like you got jeans and everything? Like, who cares what they think?
Drew Franklin
If anything, it's kind of good wordplay. She has blue eye. I didn't. She has blue eyes.
Billy
She does.
Drew Franklin
Okay. She has eyes. Blue jeans, blue eyes.
Billy
Eyes up here.
Drew Franklin
It's pretty good. Pretty good wordplay.
Billy
Well, people who.
Matt Jones
If someone's mad about this, it's. That's ridiculous.
Billy
They're calling it Nazi propaganda. Nazi and the glorification of whiteness.
Matt Jones
Who are these people, Billy, that are saying this?
Billy
I believe USA Today was the most recent article.
Matt Jones
USA Today. Okay, show me the article where USA Today said that she was a Nazi.
Billy
All right, you want that link or how would you like that?
Matt Jones
Okay, I will say this if you asked. First of all, I didn't know we still had USA Today either. So now we have American Eagle and USA Today have survived.
Drew Franklin
This was the biggest fight in 2001.
Matt Jones
Where does one get a USA Today now?
Drew Franklin
I don't know.
Matt Jones
They used to only have him in.
Drew Franklin
Hotels, I guess, still in hotels. Drop them at your door.
Billy
They are liking this. To a 2017 Pepsi ad with Kendall Jenner when she was in a civil rights protest and she handed somebody a Pepsi.
Matt Jones
Dare I say. When you say they, who is they?
Billy
You know, I'm not sure on this one. You got my mind in a pretzel with the.
Matt Jones
Well, I do think it's important who's complaining. Who is complaining? Because I just. I don't. I'm with you, Drew. I don't know who could be upset about this, but before I get outraged about them being upset, I want to see who it is that's upset.
Drew Franklin
I'm with you. I can't think of any circumstances where American Eagle could change my blood pressure at all or make me form one Thought about what they're doing. I will walk by it in the mall and keep walking.
Matt Jones
Sydney Sweeney is insanely popular right now, isn't she?
Drew Franklin
That's probably the reason all this exists. Just a reason to start up something.
Matt Jones
With one of the biggest. How did they afford her?
Drew Franklin
That's a good get.
Matt Jones
That is a good get. Because who is. When I was hotter than Sydney Sweeney.
Drew Franklin
In terms of being popular, she's on top right now. But when I was in high school, I could afford American Eagle. I couldn't afford Abercrombie. Now you're telling me American Eagle has Sydney Sweeney money. It was like the cheaper.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you go. You went to American. Yeah, Abercrombie. I never felt in place.
Drew Franklin
I felt like the cell rack. But I've never found anything.
Matt Jones
People were. What I always found interesting about Abercrombie is they were selling clothes by showing shirtless people.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, they're the ones with the controversies, not American Eagle. Actually, this is Abercrombie trying to bring down American Eagle.
Matt Jones
You know, that's who made the videos. Abercrombie?
Billy
Could be.
Matt Jones
Does Abercrombie still exist? Exist. They do. I haven't. Is the music still really loud?
Drew Franklin
It is. I have a confession. Another one. I'm 40. Own several Abercrombie shirts. They have a. They have a sports department now with throwbacks.
Matt Jones
Really?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, a lot of my vintage. Well, they're NFL licensed. Like, I have, like, five Titan shirts from Abercrombie.
Billy
Really?
Matt Jones
Yeah. Is that. Where is an Abercrombie? Is it still.
Drew Franklin
I've still got.
Billy
That's the only place I saw those.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
I was rocking. I'm not wearing the polos and popping the collar or any of that. But I do like their NFL gear.
Matt Jones
Well, like I said, if you got. I don't think that's what they meant. This is just a guess. I don't think American Eagle thought, let's make secret Nazi propaganda while we try to sell these $50 blue jeans.
Drew Franklin
It's another Epstein distracting distraction.
Matt Jones
But I also think it is convenient sometimes for people to say people are outraged when no one of significance is outraged.
Billy
A vocal minority, you might say.
Matt Jones
Are they vocal? Because again, I just saw one woman on TikTok.
Billy
Well, you must have. You saw it still.
Matt Jones
Okay, so we should, in the future, respond to every crazy person. Can I. Speaking of crazy people, can I tell you something? You ought to get on sometimes.
Billy
Sure.
Matt Jones
If you ever get a chance, go to TikTok. There's a guy in Harlan.
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah.
Matt Jones
Whose name is Crack40.
Billy
Love it already.
Matt Jones
And he streams Harlan News as it's happening. And the name crack40 describes him pretty well in terms of his news style.
Drew Franklin
He's also the news to me.
Matt Jones
He's always more interesting than the news he's covering. And he'll go live following. I think it's crack 40 news and just be ready to go down the rabbit hole of watching. You want to talk about. You want to talk about news.
Drew Franklin
You sent that to me one night and I was like, I'll open this, see what it is. About 35 minutes later, still watching. Couldn't get rid of it.
Matt Jones
Oh, he just goes live. And he went live. He went live at a drug raid at a Mexican restaurant. And it was riveting television. It was because he also, he's not worried about libel laws. He'll say anything about anybody.
Billy
We need more people like crack 40.
Matt Jones
Crack 40 news coming to a. Coming to a streamer near you. What's next?
Billy
All right, news topic number six. I thought we might talk about what's been going on with south park over the last week or so. They just had their season 27 premiere mocking Donald Trump quite a bit. But they also were poking fun at their parent company, Paramount. And the timeline of this story is incredible. First, we need to talk about Paramount settling their lawsuit with Donald Trump over their 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. I guess they did some editing to make her look a little better than she was in that interview. They had since settled that lawsuit with Trump. Paramount also around the same time canceled their Late show with Stephen Colbert for financial reasons only. A lot of people believe that this was all a brides to appease Donald Trump and also to make sure the Skydance Paramount merger happens. Well, it does. South park resigns with Paramount sounding very official. Well, it's the news, Matt. Come on. They resign with Paramount for $1.5 billion in 50 episodes. South park does. The next day, they released their season 27 premiere where Donald Trump's genitalia is talking about. He is. He is cuddling with Sudan or he is talking. Trump is. Trump is cuddled up with Satan.
Matt Jones
Oh, it was Mario saying. Yeah, I didn't ask him to miss that part.
Billy
AI generated video there. There were a lot, there was a lot going on with south park over the last couple weeks. But to do it the day after they sign a hundred and fifty dollar deal with Paramount.
Matt Jones
$150.
Billy
Sorry. Billion dollars is bold.
Matt Jones
Very bold. I mean, I'm very big on, you know, letting people know, but this, you just sign it and then you're like, let's burn it to the ground right now. Shout out. As a fellow corporate rebel, that's a whole nother level.
Drew Franklin
I saw people were thinking they'd get canceled, and they're already running ads for episode two next week.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, I mean, first of all, when's the last time you thought about South Park?
Drew Franklin
All right?
Billy
That's what the White House said.
Matt Jones
Well, guess what?
Drew Franklin
Thinking about them now.
Matt Jones
They're thinking about them now.
Billy
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean, it worked. Like, it worked. It was brilliant. And honestly, if Paramount was in on it, it would have been smart because now they've gotten all this attention. People are talking about South Park.
Drew Franklin
Think it had like, 6 million views last week.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, and that's not even like watching it on. That's just on YouTube.
Drew Franklin
Like 60 or something higher, maybe it was. Yeah, that's not many.
Matt Jones
Wrong number. Yeah, it's got to be a massive number. So, I mean, I guess it worked. 1. It was $1.5 billion. I think that's a lot of money. I mean, that's a lot of money for making a cartoon.
Drew Franklin
And it was a great episode.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Did not see that ending coming, though. I don't think anyone did. South Park's never broken from cartoons.
Matt Jones
I don't think the second episode come out yet.
Billy
Not yet. But they teased it with Charlie Kirk. I guess Cartman's dressed up like Charlie Kirk for this one.
Matt Jones
We don't. I think they have the credibility to do it because they used to. I mean, they made. They make fun of liberals, too. I mean, they. They.
Drew Franklin
They make fun of everything.
Matt Jones
They make fun of everything. And so, like, I think they get. Yeah, let them go at it. But I do love signing it and then do it. Like, that's, you know, Cojones of Steel. Trey Parker, Matt Stone. Yeah, they must really love doing that because they have to have so much money.
Billy
It's a cool process. Like, each episode only takes six, seven days if you've, like.
Matt Jones
Yeah, they turn them around quick. Yeah, yeah. How do you know? Is there like a TikTok where the people are right next to the woman screaming about the Nazi propaganda? Yeah. Okay, good.
Drew Franklin
Grew up on South Park. Last summer, I went to South Park, Colorado, to the town. It was pretty awesome.
Matt Jones
There's an actual town.
Drew Franklin
The big wooden thing says south park on it. Yeah, they. They got a little Kenny out there. They got the Casa Bonita. I mean, all the hits.
Matt Jones
Was it named south park before or just to, like, in publicity? Did they change the real name?
Drew Franklin
Isn't even South Park. It's like there's part of a South Park. The town is. Starts with an F. Losing it. But I mean it is completely decorated in south.
Matt Jones
Well, that's like what they do in North Carolina for Mayberry. It's not named Mayberry. It's Mount Airy.
Drew Franklin
Fair Play Colorado is where it is.
Matt Jones
Mount Airy. Like they have a Floyd's Barber Shop and they have all of it. I think I took you there once. Didn't we drive?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, a KSR road trip was.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it was kind of depressing actually. We went into the museum and it.
Drew Franklin
Was like just a lady smoking a cigarette looking at us.
Matt Jones
It was like, Floyd's over there, honey. Remember they had the same episode, just plays non stop. Remember I asked that woman. I was like, this is the same episode. Because we stayed over 30 minutes and it started again and I go, you know, do you get tired of this episode? And she's like, whatever, honey. I tune it out.
Drew Franklin
It's a good time. Ron enjoyed it, I think.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I also went to the Simpsons World at Universal Studios, Springfield, Missouri and my ex girlfriend wanted to go to Harry Potter.
Billy
Yeah.
Matt Jones
No, no, no, not right.
Drew Franklin
But that's Universal.
Matt Jones
Yeah. No, Springfield, Kentucky. Oh, the very first time they did it, it was Springfield, Kentucky. Now every time they re air it, they put it in. I didn't know that, but I went there and there's a Simpsons Bar. And while she was off doing Harry Potter stuff, I sat there for a while and the same thing. The episodes repeat. And I asked the bartender there and he go. I said, do you. Does this get annoying or did you just tune it out? And he was like, it's the worst thing on earth. He had memorized the dialogue and could literally recite and he did the dialogue as the episode was played. Yeah.
Billy
That sounds like torture.
Drew Franklin
If I'm not mistaken. When we went to Scranton, we went to the Office bar. I think the bartender was like, never seen it. And we were like, how could you work here though? People ask you questions. He's like, I don't know.
Matt Jones
He went to the bar from the Office and it's themed the Office. He had never seen the show.
Billy
What a weird interview process that must have been. Everybody comes in.
Matt Jones
There's people who work at KS Bar who don't care about me.
Billy
Yeah, but they know about Kentucky.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, I think this guy knew the Office existed since he was in the bar. But you'd think it'd just be someone.
Drew Franklin
That knew the show every in and out so they could talk to customers.
Matt Jones
He's like, no, not my thing. Who's Michael Scott? All right, what's next?
Billy
All right, this news coming within the last 48 hours. The popular beverage High Noon has voluntarily recalled some of its canned vodka seltzer drinks after some of the cans were inadvertently mislabeled as Celsius energy drinks. You never want any unintentional alcohol ingestion.
Matt Jones
They're getting sued.
Billy
These cans went to eight different states. They called it a labeling error from their can supplier.
Matt Jones
You think?
Billy
But some of the High Noon beach variety packs were labeled as Celsius, Astro Vibe energy drinks, Sparkling Blue Rats. And you can imagine if you're expecting a jolt of energy from a Celsius and getting a vodka seltzer, that could change your day a little bit.
Matt Jones
Yeah. They're getting sued bad, aren't they?
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah. I mean, some mistakes happen. You recall kind of harm to no harm, no foul, giving someone alcohol when they're trying to get energy. If there have been any stories come.
Matt Jones
Out, there's going to be. Right. I mean, there's got to be kids driving. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
People at work just trying to get through the day, drinking energy drink, not expecting to get a big swig of vodka because it is real alcohol.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, this. All I could think is, as a former lawyer, like, they're getting. They're getting sued. I mean, also, you wonder, how do you make this mistake? How many cans they say it was?
Billy
Didn't say cans. It said eight different states. It went out to was South Dakota.
Drew Franklin
Because I drank these on my South Dakota road trip. I could have put my family in jeopardy.
Billy
Check.
Drew Franklin
But which is have the Blue Raz.
Billy
Because they don't have the same parrot company either. So, like, how does this happen?
Matt Jones
They literally put a different.
Billy
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Wow. So maybe this Coke is orange juice.
Billy
That Coke will have real soon.
Drew Franklin
Drinking anything now?
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, it does show. We. It. We put things in our body that we 100% trust are what they say they are. But, I mean, who knows?
Billy
No. South Dakota, Drew. So you're in the state. Florida, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Matt Jones
Those are huge states.
Billy
Florida, New York, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin, Michigan.
Drew Franklin
I thought it would be like a region.
Matt Jones
So they only sent it to big states. They were like. They also seem to disproportionately go after swing states.
Drew Franklin
Might be onto something.
Matt Jones
Wow. Well, good luck to whatever the vodka company is or Celsius. You're in trouble. What's next?
Billy
All Right. Let's talk a little tv. We got a couple topics here. The first is that ESPN has cut ties with Shannon Sharp following the settlement of his sexual assault lawsuit. Sharp lost or. Sharp last appeared on ESPN in April, but he has publicly denied the allegations from his ex girlfriend. They have since settled. He called it a shakedown. Sharp is.
Matt Jones
You say girlfriend.
Billy
Ex girlfriend. Yeah.
Matt Jones
So did he. They call it a girlfriend, or was.
Billy
That like a. Yeah, ex girlfriend. Only fans model, by the way.
Matt Jones
But were they, like, in a relationship?
Billy
To my knowledge, yes. It was not only. He was also emotionally abusive as well as.
Matt Jones
Oh, so they actually were in a relationship. Okay. I didn't realize.
Billy
Yeah. Sharpe has since said this news has come out that he is at peace with the end of his run at espn, but he's upset that the news has come out now because this weekend his older brother gets enshrined into the hall of Fame.
Matt Jones
That's on you, mate.
Billy
He hoped for that news to wait until that happened, but Shannon Sharp is out. And the other TV news is that Barstool Sports has made a deal with Fox. Dave Portnoy will appear on Big Noon Kickoff during the college football season, and Barstool will have daily programming on Fox Sports 1 during the season.
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, I don't know how you lump those two things together. I think those are very different TV news.
Billy
It's the news.
Matt Jones
Well, congrats to those Barstool guys. I think that's probably a smart move. I don't know. I don't know how Portnoy will work out on the Fox thing, but. But I have in their programming I think probably makes sense back to Shannon Sharp. I like how he's like, how dare you, ESPN ruin my brother's hall of Fame. First of all, that's a quite a reach, right? You think ESPN was like, all right, Shannon Sharp's brother is getting inducted in the hall of Fame.
Drew Franklin
Let's make sure we do it on Tuesday, right before.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, when he. When he did the settlement, then his job was over. Like, he had to have known when he settled that case. And I. I'm not saying he did it. Didn't do it. Should have settled. Not. But once you settle, you're not gonna have your job. So, like, he can't be surprised, right?
Drew Franklin
No. And what a fall. Didn't he just get that huge. I don't remember the number. It was, like, astronomical. Yeah, it was pretty fresh right before this came out. And then now you're back. I mean, he'll probably land Somewhere because that's the world we live in. But he dropped a big bag at espn.
Matt Jones
And then the woman, she, like, retired, right? She retired from Only Fans. I saw a story about how much women are making on Only Fans I.
Billy
Could not believe rivals the best athletes today.
Matt Jones
40 to $50 million. Some. I mean, not all, but. But. But some. That's crazy to me. I mean, that's, like, shocking in some ways that people would make that. Make that much. And then. But I saw one of the women. I saw an interview with her. She seemed pretty smart, and she was like, at 23, I'm retired now.
Drew Franklin
Well, what's crazier to me isn't what they're making. It's. I've seen some things of what an individual will spend. Like, there are dudes that have spent 5 million on OnlyFans on someone they've never met. Yeah. They're just send them gifts and writing them. Like, that's crazy to me. Than actually making the money.
Matt Jones
Someone just sitting at home to a stranger.
Billy
A lot of lonely, sick people out there.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So did you see ESPN or. Well, there are some rumors that First Take might hire Ocho Cinco to replace Shannon Sharp. Now, for people who don't know, Ocho Cinco is Shannon Sharp's co host on Shannon's podcast. All right. Like, can you do that if you're Ocho Cko? Like, if I.
Drew Franklin
At least got to.
Matt Jones
Give him, like, getting in trouble and ESPN hiring you to work with Myron.
Drew Franklin
I think you would have to talk to him, and it could be the case. Shannon's like, sure, go do it. Go get your money. But you would need to have a conversation. It would be awkward.
Billy
Bro code.
Drew Franklin
Slide into his seat.
Matt Jones
Well, that's a good question. Is it a bro code thing? But, like, if you're Ocho Cinco, it's a heck of an opportunity. I mean, if you get to slide in next Stephen A. That's like a. Everybody who's done that's gotten rich.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. If I'm Shannon, I'm probably saying, have at it. I'm done with them. Go make what you can off of them.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, that was. It's a lot of money that he. Because you're right. He had just signed, too. And it feels like. I mean, Shannon Sharp was riding so high after that Cat Williams interview.
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean, that Cat Williams interview might be the biggest podcast interview of all time. Do you think? Is that the biggest one of all time? I'm not knowing if it's the most watched but in terms of talked about.
Drew Franklin
Can you think of a podcast more.
Matt Jones
Than Shannon Sharp and Cat Williams?
Billy
Only one you're going to laugh at me for saying.
Matt Jones
What's that?
Billy
I mean, something either Joe Rogan related or Tucker Carlson with Putin.
Matt Jones
Oh, it's much bigger than Tucker Carlson. Putin, maybe. I mean, Joe Rogan's a bigger podcast, but can you think of one interview that was as big as ship? Maybe, Maybe. But I feel like people. I mean, can you remember anything Trump said on that interview?
Billy
No, but it was like a shift.
Matt Jones
I can quote you 50 things Katt Williams said on that interview with Shannon Sharpe. Like, I remember listening to that interview in the parking lot of an Indian restaurant, and I could not leave. I was so mesmerized by it.
Drew Franklin
Like, broke YouTube records. I tried to Google on the fly. It has 100 million views. And Shannon Sharpe got 500,000 subscribers just from that episode.
Matt Jones
100 million views. Whoa.
Drew Franklin
He got 500,000 subscriptions just from that.
Matt Jones
Did that do anything, though, for Cat? Like, his Cat Williams, he's touring now.
Drew Franklin
But I think it was already. He'd already been touring.
Billy
He's also somebody that's already made his money. I don't think he's even looking for.
Matt Jones
That's one thing we've seen over the years. Once rich people make their money, they don't care anymore.
Billy
Well, that Cat's a different cat. I mean, part of the pun.
Matt Jones
You buddies with him?
Billy
No, he's just, you know, he thinks looks at things a little differently. That's why the interview was a little. Was so popular, right?
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
What makes it so popular is also, he predicted things that have all been pretty true.
Matt Jones
He called it before it happened in some ways, didn't he?
Drew Franklin
He said 20, 25. All these. Everything's coming to light and these people are going down.
Matt Jones
Drake, he kind of. He did both those.
Drew Franklin
So it's like a meme now. Like, if someone's a prediction, you put like the Katt Williams meme up. Like.
Matt Jones
But he also was like. He also would say stuff. Didn't he say something like, he could shoot like 58 in golf and he.
Drew Franklin
Read a book a day when he was like seven.
Matt Jones
That's the tough thing, though. He got some stuff right. So it's hard just to dismiss everything else he said.
Drew Franklin
A little too close to the sun with.
Matt Jones
Everything he was saying was entertaining, though. And then I saw him on other stuff and it wasn't quite as good. I'm a big fan of the Whatever reason, for whatever reason, that hit the perfect you know, that hit the perfect thing, you know, and it probably got.
Drew Franklin
New life as each thing he said, you know, like, did he.
Matt Jones
There's some good clips of Cat Williams with Theo Vaughn too, because you could tell Cat Williams, like, doesn't really know who Theo Vaughn is and he's discovering him as it happens and he's amused by him. And so, like, there's some good clips of that.
Billy
Yeah, Theo was making him laugh a lot.
Matt Jones
Yeah, he was. Because he, because, you know, Theo Vaughn. This is before Theo decided he was a political scientist. And this is when he was just like, do you ever look at a piece of pie and wonder if it's looking back at you? And he would say things like that and Cat Williams would just start cracking up.
Drew Franklin
Right. Because Cat Williams was very high.
Matt Jones
Yes. All right, what's next? Life moves fast, but every now and then you got to slow down and savor the goodness of it. That's where Cornbread Hemp comes in. Billy
All right, two more. We'll stay in the sports realm for this one. This Saturday is a pretty cool event. The MLB Speedway Classic will be taking place in Tennessee on Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway. If you remember, it was Tennessee versus Virginia attack in a college football game in 2016. Well, now it'll be the first ever MLB game played in the state of Tennessee. And also they have built a field in the infield of Bristol Motor Speedway. 86,000 tickets have already been sold for this event. It will be the most watched MLB game in person. It'll be the third place Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central and the last place Braves in the NL East. There's a lot of things going on at this. They got special uniforms that are an ode to NASCAR. They've got pregame concerts with Tim McGraw, Pitbull and Jake Owen, Pit bull.
Matt Jones
Okay, go ahead.
Billy
And, you know, I guess there's some other festivities going on. I could not verify them, but there are talks of, I guess, interviewing players in cars during the game and some other fun stuff, but that's happening this Saturday.
Matt Jones
I like how. I like how you go. I could not verify them. Just a minute ago, you did a story that was like they're saying on the Internet, the people.
Billy
Yes.
Matt Jones
Okay. You know, you're for people who don't know. He's a Braves fan, I'm a Reds fan.
Drew Franklin
So this is both wearing it right now. We're wearing our team.
Matt Jones
I got the hat, you got the Braves jersey. This is exciting. I wish both teams were a little better, but, hey, you are hot. We're doing good. But this is fun, right? 86,000 people for a baseball game.
Drew Franklin
I have not watched a full baseball game, at least on tv. I like going to games, but I've not tuned in for a full game. Can't even remember when. I am not missing a second of everything going on Saturday night.
Matt Jones
So Johnny Bench and Chipper Jones are going to drive a race car to start. Johnny Bench is old. I mean, what would happen if they wreck?
Drew Franklin
I don't know if they're dry. Are they driving?
Matt Jones
I think they're driving. What if they're right? What if Johnny Bench says rubbing's racing and puts Chipper in the wall?
Drew Franklin
I could see him doing that. I got to play golf with Johnny Bench and Lexington.
Matt Jones
You did. That's right.
Drew Franklin
Children's Charity Classic.
Matt Jones
Wouldn't that be kind of awesome, though, if one of them put the other one in the wall?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, just complete fight before he gets to the baseball.
Matt Jones
I think that would be.
Drew Franklin
I think it's pretty cool. They're doing the first pitch. Bench is catching for Chipper.
Matt Jones
Bench is catching.
Drew Franklin
That's cool. Billy Nell. The biggest takeaway, though, I wrote a KSR post on this titled Reds and Braves to make history at the Speedway Classic featuring Pitbull. I can't believe Pitbull. This is Bristol, Tennessee. The Braves.
Matt Jones
I hate pit bull. When's the last time pit bull had a song?
Billy
He's a cultural icon. But in Bristol, Tennessee, I mean, the FIU football stadium is named after him.
Drew Franklin
This is a country. This is nascar.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, the Brave.
Drew Franklin
This is the South.
Matt Jones
Yeah. If it's the Latin, you know, if they're playing like, I don't know, Real Madrid versus Veracruz, Mexico in Miami. They're not going to ask Brad Hazely to sing at it.
Billy
Baseball's got a large Latin American audience, doesn't it?
Matt Jones
Well, I. Okay, now that's. That's probably the reason. Billy, that was a smart comment by you. And it's Ellie De La Cruz and, and they thought Auna, he's. Or Acuna, but he's heard.
Billy
Okay, look at this, Billy, write it down.
Matt Jones
For the first time in my life, I will say point. Billy, you're right. That's probably why they're doing it. That's. That's a fair point.
Drew Franklin
I still think it's stupid because, well, everything's Tennessee based. Both pitchers are from Tennessee. I mean, they're playing up the nascar, obviously. First ever Major league baseball in Tennessee. It's all Tennessee, Tennessee, Tennessee, Tennessee. And here's Pitbull. But Billy does give a good explanation. And Pitbull, my second favorite thing of the game, of the secondary stuff. Who's your boy? Your catcher? Stevenson. Tyler Stevenson. Have you seen what he's wearing?
Matt Jones
No, it's. He wearing.
Billy
Oh, yes.
Drew Franklin
Catcher gear is the Ricky Bobby Talladega outfit with the Wonder brand in the game. Yes, he's going as Ricky Bobby Shake and Bake.
Matt Jones
Oh, I want to see that. Is that. Pull that posted.
Drew Franklin
Posted it right now. Here you go. Yeah, he's got a. It says Reds, but it's the Wonder Bread logo. Like, like Ricky Bobby.
Matt Jones
Oh, his helmet, everything. Awesome.
Drew Franklin
The blue and white.
Matt Jones
Now that's very cool. That's okay. See, I like this. They. This is, this is smart for baseball. I'm still trying to decide on Thursday night whether I'm going. It's just seems like it's going to be such a hassle. But I also would love to be in the stadium for the game.
Billy
Yeah, it seems like it'll be a cool event.
Drew Franklin
Their numbers, they use like the NASCAR fonts.
Matt Jones
I tried to buy one. You know, the hats kind of look like you could buy them at a gas station.
Drew Franklin
The Braves one has flames on it.
Matt Jones
The Brazen has flames. The Reds one has checkerboard, you know, race checkerboards. It looks like. It really looks like you could get it at the speedway in Johnson City.
Drew Franklin
Don't you buy NASCAR gear at gas stations? It kind of playing into the whole.
Matt Jones
You do. And I tried to buy the Reds hat and they're sold out. They're. They're out of them. They don't have any because, you know, it's a good, it's a good way to get the good old boys into. Which gets my question of what are other crossovers you would like to see like, would you? What's something you think would be fun bringing two sports together. I've got one NHRA at Augusta National.
Drew Franklin
All right, set that up.
Matt Jones
Just drag race down the Amen.
Billy
I don't know if the patrons would like that very much.
Drew Franklin
That will be hard to pull off. I like the vision though, trying to think of venues that sports shouldn't fit in there.
Matt Jones
Like you could play a basketball game like at Wimbledon.
Drew Franklin
Uh huh. Or in the US Open stadium up there in New York.
Matt Jones
Well, they do wrestling at the U.S. open Stadium at Arthur Ashe. There have been multiple wrestling shows there.
Drew Franklin
I would love to watch a football game on a hockey rink. That's what I was on the ice. That would be awesome.
Matt Jones
I mean on the hockey on the ice, that's a little dangerous.
Billy
I think that would be professional bull riding.
Matt Jones
Although I mean it's certainly less, less dangerous or less more likely to happen than the NIHRA at MOS Augusta National.
Drew Franklin
I remember the college game on the aircraft carrier, but I don't remember if it worked.
Matt Jones
It didn't work because the floor got wet. They canceled it halfway through.
Drew Franklin
I have that memory.
Matt Jones
Condensation.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And they, people were falling and they stopped the game at like halftime. If I remember correctly, they did it twice. First time it worked but it was windy and so the final score was like 43 to 41.
Drew Franklin
Someone had to jump in the ocean and get the ball.
Matt Jones
The second time they, it was, it got wet because of the condensation.
Drew Franklin
I like the effort. I like when they try things like.
Matt Jones
The hockey game they always have outside in the football stadiums. I think those are going to break.
Drew Franklin
A 70 year old attendance record on Saturday.
Matt Jones
Good for reds and brakes. All right, what's the last piece of news?
Billy
All right, our final piece of news, it's Telemune. Telecommunications company Optimum has surveyed Americans and I have two interesting data points that I want to discuss with you guys.
Matt Jones
So this is a survey of all Americans?
Billy
Not all Americans.
Matt Jones
Every single American. Yeah.
Billy
I didn't get pulled for this.
Drew Franklin
They didn't come to my door.
Matt Jones
They surveyed every person. Steve Harvey did it.
Billy
Okay, Data point number one. Americans with working Internet at home average more than 10 hours a day accessing the web. 5.4 hours is spent streaming or watching television while another 5 hours is spent on YouTube, your phone, browsing on the Internet. Americans spend over 10 hours a day if they have Internet.
Matt Jones
I believe that. I completely believe that. If you're going to count streaming and presumably if you're streaming and on your phone, you're getting double counted, then? Yes, I completely believe that's true. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
And I mean, personally, I fly over it because I work from home, but a lot of people work from home. I mean, you wake up, you're looking at your phone, getting on your computer, turn your TV on, and then when you're done working, getting back on your phone, your computer.
Matt Jones
So this is 10 hours at home. So that doesn't even count when you're at work. Correct?
Billy
Yes. This is accessing your home Internet.
Matt Jones
Well, I guess if you're double counting work at home.
Drew Franklin
Also, when you say accessing the home Internet, like, I mean, I have a camera that's on my home Internet. Is that. Or is it me actively scrolling and doing things?
Billy
The camera category was not in the distinctions that were said.
Matt Jones
That is a lot, though. We are. We, you, you. I've said this, I think, on this podcast before. In 30 years, 40 years, this will be looked at as a changer of American health. These phones, like cigarettes were where people look back and go, I can't believe we didn't realize what cigarettes did to people's health. I mean, I don't know that we'll get rid of phones. I'm sure we won't. But, like, people are gonna go. I cannot believe how they went unregulated for so long.
Drew Franklin
Because it's going.
Matt Jones
It's. There's no doubt in my mind. Phones change people's brains. And they. With people Mario's age and younger, none of them have an attention span more than 30 seconds because of them.
Billy
It's that dopamine addiction. But my question is, is that number only going to go up?
Matt Jones
I think there'll be a little bit of a retreat for people going, like, I want to get away, a more natural life. But, yeah, it's not going to go. I don't think it's going to go down.
Billy
Yeah, I don't either.
Drew Franklin
You know, last night I was reading a book and I actually made a point. I had a little soft music, little reading music.
Matt Jones
Oh, yeah, reading.
Drew Franklin
But I was like 10 pages in the book and I picked up my phone and just looked at Twitter and actually got mad at myself and threw the phone across the room. Like, can you not make it 15 minutes without looking at that damn thing?
Matt Jones
It's hard. I'm a big reader. I love to read. I read every day. It is very hard for me to read more than 20 pages at a time. I can read 20 pages, do something for a couple minutes, then come back. But I used to be able to sit when I was younger and I could read a book in a day. My brain just does not let me do that anymore. And I. So there's no doubt in my opinion. I know it's had an effect on me. So I'm sure it's had an effect on other people. All right, what was the other one?
Billy
Oh, the other data point I have is that 43% of Americans would leave their romantic partner for $1 million.
Matt Jones
Wow. 43%.
Billy
43%.
Matt Jones
Now when you say Roman partner, is that wife or is that any whoever?
Billy
Any whoever you're in a relationship with? It did not.
Matt Jones
That doesn't surprise me. If it's not, I'd be fascinated what the number is for married because on for dating and you got split that.
Drew Franklin
If you're married for 500,000.
Matt Jones
If I was being smart, that was good. If I was being smart, I would have taken that at every moment of my life because all those relationships ended and nobody gave me a million dollars. You could be building tunnels under Nashville right now at a million dollars for every time. My goodness. So does 43 seem high or low to you?
Drew Franklin
That seems pretty high. Now if it's more than a million, I could see getting 43. But million doesn't seem like a life changing money to probably wreck your significant other and have to live with that guilt. Or maybe you're just an asshole and don't care.
Matt Jones
Let's do some math. What percentage of marriages end in divorce?
Billy
More than 50%.
Matt Jones
Okay, so let's just say it's 50%. At any given moment, how many people are in a marriage where they wish it would end? God, I'm just. No, just at any moment. What, what percentage. If I right now were to poll all Americans, what percent would tell you I wish I wasn't in this marriage?
Billy
15.
Matt Jones
Yeah, let's say 15.
Drew Franklin
15'S fair.
Matt Jones
So 15 are doing it for no money.
Drew Franklin
Good point.
Matt Jones
Good way to spend this. So 15 are doing it for no money. Then dating, I mean, what percentage of people date break up? 96. Right, right. So I think you can get to 43 pretty easy. And there are definitely people besides the 15 who you go million dollars. That 15 goes up to at least 20 to 25.
Drew Franklin
When you break down the math makes sense. Yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean I have friends. I know they wish they weren't married, but like, it is what it is.
Drew Franklin
No one's called them with a million.
Matt Jones
Dollars to my close ones. Not you, all the other ones.
Billy
But like, but if you're in love. A million's a little low, right?
Matt Jones
No. If you're in love, the answer to this question is clearly no. But how many. What percentage of marriages do you think they're not in love anymore? It's more than 15. Yeah.
Billy
That's why we got 50% of marriages ended in divorce.
Matt Jones
So, I mean, yeah, 43 to me might be low.
Drew Franklin
Really? But when you. When you play it out like that, I kind of want to change my stance.
Matt Jones
I think it's. I think it's low.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I think it is.
Matt Jones
It's hard to conversation because I can't ask you all, like, would you do it? Because you can't answer that even if it was true.
Drew Franklin
So, I mean, I can sit. No, I'm kidding.
Matt Jones
I would.
Drew Franklin
It would be interesting. And we would never get a real answer of people that are in love in a higher amount of money, what that number is. Like, would you break someone's heart that you love for X amount of dollars? But this kind of is too broad for that. We'd never get that real answer.
Matt Jones
I'm trying to sit there and think there's ever been a moment in my life the answer to the question wouldn't have been yes.
Billy
Never.
Matt Jones
Yes. No. There are a few. Couple moments that it wouldn't have been yes. But some of the times I was in serious relationships, I really needed the money. I didn't have any money, you know.
Billy
Could have went a long way on the website.
Matt Jones
Oh. I mean, when I. I went through a period from 2000, when I left Frost Brown Todd in 2008, because I made good money at Frost Brown Todd. When I left Frost Brown Todd and started Jones and Bruce. A terrible decision. Even though I love my friend Johnny so much, we didn't have any idea what we were. Were doing. From 2008 to about 2011, I had no money at all. And I would check the traffic on the site, trying to decide if I could go out to dinner that weekend. Like, I had no money. So during that period, if you had asked me, I'd have been like, although, you know I'm kidding. But seriously, I can see that number being that high.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. You talked me into it. When you framed it that way, I didn't consider the people that would leave for $20 right now.
Matt Jones
Yeah. And when we hired Drew and TJ, what little money I had went to them. Yeah. So it was just Johnny and I would sit there in our law office and go, man, I hope somebody shows up today. Just go on the street. Anybody need a divorce? But there was a moment, there was like two months where I thought, I'm going to just have to quit KSI. There's no way. There's no way financially I can do this. And then. Then Cal got here.
Billy
That was the turning point.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Cal went from us losing money to, like, a Pedro.
Billy
That was a good decision.
Drew Franklin
And I was rolling in money in 2009. My.
Matt Jones
Didn't you work at Tony Roman and Malone's?
Drew Franklin
Well, I waited tables while working for ksr.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
So it actually got a little weird because I got a little bit of known. But then I was waiting tables, people were coming in. They're like, I'm reading your website right now. I'm like, yeah, you want Pepsi? What's. Let's get this moving.
Matt Jones
Yeah. You had a period of time. Tony Kornheiser has talked about this. There's a period of time that's really weird when you're famous but poor. That's a weird time. Like, I'm poor, you know, but, like, struggling. That's a weird time because you can walk around, people go, what are you.
Drew Franklin
Doing nightly at Malone's?
Matt Jones
For me. Yeah, what are you doing? And you're, like, wearing a tuxedo, carrying this tray. What do you want, man? You know, well, you're famous.
Billy
You must have money. Oh, yeah.
Matt Jones
I would say. I didn't, like, start having the money people thought I had until, like four or five years ago, you know, like even going to 2012, 13, 14, 15, 16. I didn't have a lot of money and put people like, oh, you're on television. That local news reporters get this. Like, you people think local news reporters make money. They don't make a lot of money. Local news reporters, that's probably more true about them than anybody. They are significantly more famous than they are rich, all of them, pretty much. Wouldn't you agree?
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah. I mean, people joke like, you know, we'll be at games and we'll make the joke. You know, we don't get into sports media to get rich. I mean, not many people covering, you know, college basketball is making a great living there.
Matt Jones
Yes. I mean, there are people who, you know, I don't care where you're listening. There's people you see on TV every day and you think. And you. Everyone in town knows them and they're still grinding. So it's life.
Billy
That's life.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Billy
This was.
Drew Franklin
We got off on a little. We did. This was last week on ksr. We kind of went back in history.
Matt Jones
And we're all here well, listen, Billy, nice job on the news. Not so depressing.
Billy
Thank you. I had to go into the TikTok world a little bit.
Matt Jones
So you're still gonna, in the future, try to figure out who they are.
Billy
And we.
Matt Jones
And we.
Drew Franklin
And let's just. Let's move on from American eagle. It doesn't matter.
Matt Jones
Really.
Drew Franklin
Doesn't matter to anything.
Matt Jones
See you later.
