What are the best quarterback classes in the history of the NFL draft? If that's the question, the answer typically will be 1983 or 2024. Those are the standard barriers. So how good is this 2027 class going to be? I can tell you this, there's only 336 days until the NFL draft when we actually find out. Man, you good? I'm good, man. Roll that beat. Tuck. We talked about it last week or actually earlier this week when we did the primer for all other positions without quarterbacks included. Today's show is about the quarterback class. We talked about 1983 with with all the great names, right from John Elway to obviously Blacklidge wasn't didn't turn out to be as expected. Tony Eason you could put in the same boat, but had Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, right? And then we just looked recently, just a few years back, right? 2024 with the six quarterbacks in the top 12 picks starting with Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels, Drake May and then Michael Penck, J.J. mcCarthy and Bone Knicks Study and play Come together on a Windows 11 PC and for a limited time,

How good is this class going to be? I mean, that's the question we're all asking. And then there's this caveat of is Brendan Sorsby from Texas Tech who's going through the the the court proceedings to see if he's going to wind up back at Texas Tech or he's going to wind up in the 2027 supplemental draft, which would technically include him as part of the 2027 class. So there's a lot of, there's a lot to be determined and that's one, just one asterisk. And we also just go, we don't have to go back far to where we're like hey, we thought a class was going to be really good. We didn't think Kate Clubnik was going to be a fourth round pick. We didn't think that Garrett Nussmeier was going to fall all the way to the bottom of the draft. You know and so so the scumbags
Todd McShay
will let us remind us of that. They're always reminding us of that.
Daniel Jeremiah
The scumbags will however this group is different and before we unveil what I don't even want to call them the rankings we'll just call them the 13 names kind of placed in in a general order of where we think they are entering this year's draft. I think it's important to to recognize yes we've probably I I can say for myself I'm guessing you would agree with if you were to look break up all the positions from quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker, secondary. I've watched more tape and have a better feel for the quarterbacks than I do any other position for obvious reasons. We're a college football show during the fall with NFL draft I wouldn't say sprinkled in absolutely a part of the core of what we do and we transition to NFL and NFL draft when the college football season's over. So we've we know these guys more so than we know this 8th or 12th cornerback or running back. Right. We know these guys. But I still our process is this draft ends recap it, give perspective get excited about what they could be as rookies and then transition. You and I go back into the lab we're watching tape and we're we're going through we're going to do full on reports are going to come out on theringer.com mcshay and we're going to we're right now working to fuel that that database that we've we've built and we're fired up to continue to expand upon we'll have some newsletter breakdowns where we're sharing what we're seeing on tape and that you can get Then the the McShay Report subscribe if you don't already. That's our premium content but this is kind of phase one of the process and we're going to talk about it today before we've even dove in completely to phase one. So keep that in mind. Then we'll revisit at the end of the summer where we where these rankings compare to what we thought and then each month. I mean, every Thursday show during the season of college football. It's called Rough Draft.
Todd McShay
Rough Draft.
Daniel Jeremiah
And so we're going to be revisiting this throughout the year. This draft has more anticipation than anyone I can remember in 26 years of covering the NFL draft. And so you better believe that this show is going to be on top of it. From the information gathering to the tape study, more so than any other show that you can find on Netflix, Spotify, Apple, wherever else you get your podcast, this is the place to be for the next 11 months leading up to the NFL draft. But with that said, let's take a look at these songs. Launch Soft launch Ranking slash names to keep in mind for the 2027 quarterback class. Let's start with the top five. Arch Manning from Texas and Dante More from Oregon. That's going to be the discussion. I do want to let you know Lenora Sellers is kind of the wild card to watch out for because he's more physically gifted than maybe any other quarterback in this class. I would have source be right there with them if Sorsby. If we knew what his status was.
Todd McShay
Right.
Daniel Jeremiah
So that would give you four quarterbacks. Okay, that where I would say it wouldn't stun the system if any One of these four winds up being QB1 from this class. Which sounds ludicrous considering the Raiders were debating between Dante Moore and Fernando Mendoza and Arch Manning's Arch Manning. But I'm telling you those four names and we'll see what happens with Soursby. Then you've got these two interesting ones. Mensch in CJ Carr from Notre Dame and Julian Saying from Ohio State both. They're not the only ones that we're going to list off of the quarterbacks that can go back for another year. In fact, Arch Manning could go back for another.
Todd McShay
Right.
Daniel Jeremiah
But they're the ones that I would say right now are kind of depending on how this season goes, it could go 50, 50. Let's call it in. C.J. carr from Notre Dame and Julian Sam from Ohio State. Then beyond that, we've got a couple transfers and, and, and a sh. A couple transfers in. Sam Levitt going from Arizona State coming off injury season was disappointing in 2025 after a great, you know, rookie debut leading Arizona State with Cam Scaboo is the, is the feature, the, the main character. But now he goes with Lane Kiffin at lsu and we saw what Lane did for Jackson Dart and what Lane just did for Trinidad Chambliss and Lane's been going back to the USC Years. Right. Like Lane knows how to develop these guys. You have to expect that Levitt's gonna have a big year. Darian Mensa is another one for Miami Duke transfer. What happened, what happened with Cam Ward? How good you know Cam Ward went from a fifth round pick to number one overall. Scouts and ourselves. Yeah, he's a day three guy. Really intriguing traits to Holy. This guy is the best quarterback in the draft. So much so that the Giants wanted to give away everything to go get him just a couple spots up from three to one. And and so in last year we saw Carson Beck totally rehab his, his image and where he was in terms of that injury from George. So that's a place to go get healthy and get right and to boost your draft stock. Then beyond that, Trinidad Chambliss. I mentioned scary times. Is he going to get another year at Ole Miss? He wins. He wins the court battle and he winds up back at Ole Miss. But without Lane Kiffin. Is this year going to be a building upon or is it going to be oh, he's not the same guy without Lane. That's going to be fascinating to evaluate. Right?
Todd McShay
Yeah. Yep.
Daniel Jeremiah
And I would lump in Drew Mesta Maker with him only in the regard of smaller school guy off the radar. Remember chambliss was Division 2 Ferris State like 200 and he was ranked in the mid-200s in the, in the transfer portal for a lot of those services. And Lane Kiffin hand plucked him and he wasn't even the starter coming into the year and he winds up getting the starting job. Right. But Master Maker come from North Texas to transfer into Oklahoma State. There are some people who are really high on him. I don't know that we're there yet, but yeah, keep an eye on him. I know Josh Hoover undersized guy, slinger like his release the balls out. I now envisioning him a shorter version of. With like a shorter, more urgent version of Fernando Mendoza where it's like Mandalorian. What?
Todd McShay
The Mandalorian. Did you see that?
Daniel Jeremiah
No.
Todd McShay
I called the man. They did the Step brothers parody for the, the schedule release and, and Fernando Mendoza introduced himself to Kirk Cousins as you have to call me the Mandalorian. And I was like, dude, I'm. I am so happy. I couldn't, I could, I couldn't have been happier with that situation.
Daniel Jeremiah
That's amazing. So. So what with a year by the way, just like Fernando. Fernando in 2024 was at the Manning Passing Academy 2025, he was not allowed to go because. Because signetti Kirk's. And Signetti is like, no, I need you. We. We've got a. Is. I'm spinning doing. We got to drill this thing home in the off season. And so you're not going to see Josh Hoover in the Manning passing academy when we're down in Thibodeau. Thibodeau, Louisiana. And fired up for that next month. But Hoover, that progress from TCU there, Emaliava, Nico Iamaliava from ucla. Man, there's a lot to unpack there, but, man, there's a lot of talent there. And there are some scouts that are a little bit bullish on him, man.
Todd McShay
Yep.
Daniel Jeremiah
Jaden Mava, usc. Does he take that next step? Put out a lot of good tape last year. Not there yet. And then John mateer would be 13 if we were to kind of preliminarily. Preliminarily list these guys. I love John Matier.
Todd McShay
I know you love favorite of the show. I mean, he is. He has been from the beginning an
Daniel Jeremiah
absolute lunatic with the football in all the best and worst ways.
Todd McShay
But he's not going to be boring.
Daniel Jeremiah
He got neutered last year with that thumb injury and he couldn't drive the ball down the field. It just wasn't the same. Yeah, I mean, that's the best word for watching John Matiere, Humboldt, Michigan. No, watching John Mateer at Washington State and watching him against Michigan. And I forget who they opened up against. Just flinging, slinging out of his mind. The best word I can come up with is he was absolutely neutered by that thumb injury.
Todd McShay
You're a psycho.
Daniel Jeremiah
So that's the class. And there are actually some other names, but Those are the 13 I want to enter the year really focused on. And we will. As I said, we're going to take a little bit of a break after this show. I think we've earned it. I'm actually gonna go get married.
Todd McShay
Congrats, man. Thank you, Marissa, if you're listening, it's not too late. It's not.
Daniel Jeremiah
It is not too late. It's getting pretty close, though.
Todd McShay
Yeah, it's getting late, early, but, like, we could still get you out of this.
Daniel Jeremiah
We're gonna take a little. A little bit of a trip. I think she's earned it. I've earned a little bit. A few days off and she's earned a little bit of a trip. My gosh, can you imagine dealing with me if anyone's earned a trip?
Todd McShay
Can I imagine. Anyway, yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
When we come back, we're going to start drilling in and we're going to do it in pairs and it doesn't mean we're comparing one to the other, but we're going to try to pair these guys up and do some really fun shows with these quarterbacks. But I want to ask, let's, let's get through some questions and Dan's done a really good job of like honing in on some questions that he thinks people would be interested in. I'll start with this source be aside, how many quarterbacks in this class would you take if a. This is a good question. Yeah, I like what it is.
Todd McShay
I had to think how many quarterback,
Daniel Jeremiah
how many quarterbacks would you take if a supplemental draft happened tomorrow? Basically, who would you want in your organization right now and be Will? This is the caveat. This is the part, this is the big one. You'd be willing right now to say I'm going to give up 2027 first round pick for the ability to get an early buy on one of these guys. How many and who are the names that you would give up your 2027 first round pick knowing like Jaden wasn't Jaden.
Todd McShay
Right.
Daniel Jeremiah
Cam wasn't Cam. Nick's wasn't Nick's, you know, and Club Nick didn't turn out to be Club Nick and, and Nussmeier didn't turn out to be. So knowing all the things you know in the history and the experience you have to draw on, who would you be willing to be like? Yep, I'm gonna gamble on that. Coming up black just to Dante Moore
Todd McShay
from Oregon and Arch Banding from Texas. And I went back and forth on this because there's a chance you don't get these guys. Like, I mean if, if this was, if all of them were in the supplemental draft and then if they didn't get drafted, they could be in the, in the regular draft like, like all these scenarios they could all like, they may, they just might not be there. Teams will go after them. That being said, I only feel, I think Dante Moore is the one I feel the most comfortable with because I, I like the seal the, the floor there, Arch. I'm willing to bet on the traits. The other ones need to figure it out. They need to sort it out, they need to fight it out. You need to put them in a room and see who comes out on top and that room is going to be the 2026 season. That's how I kind of feel about it now. I get other teams making different decisions because you're just going to take a chance because These guys are. Some of them are that talented. But for me, there's only two.
Daniel Jeremiah
I'm a psycho, as I know I would. I would do it for four. And it leads us to the next question. Highest upside, best tools. So let's combo these two questions. Yeah, I think the highest upside, best tools of the quarterback class reside in the bodies of Lenora Sellers, S.C. and Brendan Stores. Be currently. Well, I guess currently not, but aligned with Texas Tech. Should he get another season to play. Really.
Todd McShay
Okay.
Daniel Jeremiah
But they're not. Neither of them. Them are there. So I'm answering both questions with those two names. In addition to, obviously Arch and Dante. I would, I would get, I would give away my. I would give right away right now. My. If you said any one of those four were in. Were in this supplemental draft, I'd take any one of those four because I know it would give me a year to get them in the system, have them learn, develop them in the, you know, behind closed doors. I just believe. I think Sellers is phenomenally gifted.
Todd McShay
A couple of things I'm going to say here.
Daniel Jeremiah
Yes. You can't.
Todd McShay
Just because these guys are in the supplemental draft, don't assume that you're just going to be able to sit them on the bench for a year. If you Get Lenora sellers.
Daniel Jeremiah
2.
Todd McShay
Two things that are, I think worth mentioning here.
Daniel Jeremiah
Yeah.
Todd McShay
If you get Lenora Seller in the supplemental draft, you can play him now. So you probably will end up playing him even though, oh, I'll let him play some.
Daniel Jeremiah
But we'll have a plan. I'll let him play some. There will be a point in this season if I'm a team that's in, that's in the market for a quarterback next year. Like, I'm not. I'm not the Bills, I'm not the Chiefs, I'm not the Patriots, I'm not the Commanders, I'm not the Bears. I'm not. I'm not the Chargers. I'm not, you know, I'm not the Bengals. So I'm a team that has. If I'm willing to give up a 20, 27 pick for any of these quarterbacks, it means I'm going to. I'm probably, I'm very likely going to need one. I'm talking about like the Dolphins. Potentially. Yeah, I'm definitely talking about. Yeah, potentially. I'm talking about the. Sorry, let's start with the jets and the Browns and the Cardinals.
Todd McShay
Right.
Daniel Jeremiah
Right.
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
And then, and then you could, you could throw in the Dolphins and you could throw in a Few other Minnesota
Todd McShay
keep an eye on y.
Daniel Jeremiah
Yes.
Todd McShay
So yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
So with all that said. Yeah. And if I get. If I can take Sellers and I would take Sellers ahead of Sourcebee right now, that's the other thing I want
Todd McShay
to throw in there because we talked about this when we had Burt Brer on the show. We don't know what Source Bees if. Let's just say if he's in the supplemental draft, we don't know what his rookie season is going to be like. Is he allowed to be in the building or is there some kind of suspension?
Daniel Jeremiah
It's not some suspension.
Todd McShay
I would agree.
Daniel Jeremiah
I would agree. But for tattoo gate and. And some shoe stuff is getting suspended to uphold. It's not to uphold the NCAA's ruling as much as it is to prevent this becoming, I think like a, A refuge. You know, like a, A, A soft landing where I can go up as much as I want and I always get the supplemental draft. Like essentially. Let's just boil it down. That that's, that's what the league. And in conjunction with their developmental league, which is college football, this free developmental league that the NFL has.
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
Has been gifted. Is the, is the. Is college football.
Todd McShay
So my point would actually be like, I would be stunned if there's not a suspension. Now I'll say that is part of the suspension that he's not allowed to be in the building or is he allowed to be in the building? And we need clarification on that.
Daniel Jeremiah
We asked Bert Brer about that. Yeah.
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
And. And it's unprecedented. It's. There's so, so there are. And information's coming out. We just shared on. On Monday, you know, like we're talking about Sourcebee and, and June 22nd is the, is the deadline date and. And more information's coming out. It feels like every five to seven days there's more information. And so no. And the lawsuits are filed. So there's going to be a lot of. There's going to be a lot of zigging and zagging, but it's only over the next month until we get some answers. And once we get some answers, then the wheels get put in place. The wheels that are already in place. And I know some wheels include that are already in place and rolling NFL teams like diving in, having meetings, studying the tape, cross checking characters, all that stuff with Sourceby figuring out, getting answers to that question, other questions. When can we meet with them? If he is in the supplemental draft, will we have an opportunity to go down to, to Lubbock or to wherever he's residing at the time. Can we bring him into this building? Can we put him on the board? Can we like we're about to invest. If it's a first round pick, 30, $50 million. And even if it's not, and it's an early second round pick, it's still tens of millions of dollars, you know? Yeah.

You don't wash your jersey during a wind streak, you don't switch seats when your team's up big, and you definitely don't shave during the playoffs. When things are working, you don't change them. That's why when you drink Jagermeister, you
Todd McShay
drink it ice cold.
Daniel Jeremiah
Anything else, well, that'd just be bad luck. Drink it cold or don't drink it at all. Jagermeister. Damn, that's cold. Drink responsibly. Jagermeister Liquor, 35 alcohol by volume. Imported by Mast.
Todd McShay
Jagermeister US White Plains, New York. So to be clear, you there's four that you would use a first round pick to take in supplemental draft. And you believe that South Carolina's Lenore Sellers and Cincinnati slash Texas Techs Brendan Sorsby have the highest ceilings and the best traits. Did you consider for that second part for the best traits? Highest ceiling arch in that conversation?
Daniel Jeremiah
No.
Todd McShay
Really?
Daniel Jeremiah
I, I, I shouldn't say didn't consider. Of course not. He's not as dynamic of an athlete as Sellers and Sorsby. He doesn't have. He's a damn good athlete. I'm saying, like, they're different level athletes. Twitch, suddenness. He. He's a. He's. He can run, but I watch him in the pocket, and he's absolutely mobile and can extend, but not like those guys.
Todd McShay
Interesting.
Daniel Jeremiah
And he's got a good. He's got a good arm, but not like those guys can rip some things. I think he's got a good arm.
Todd McShay
Station man. I think Stellars might be. Again, third.
Daniel Jeremiah
I would put him third. Okay. I would put him third. Who would. Would you? So. So you answer the second question. Highest upside, best tools. I think it's.
Todd McShay
It's probably Sellers, but Arch has got a.
Daniel Jeremiah
He's a little tall.
Todd McShay
I don't know. I. I really think Arch is in that conversation definitely with ssby. To me, I think. I mean, I don't think, like Sellers, I could see giving a slight nod. And I think Sellers more than anything else, that. That jumps out to me is his power, his strength, his ability to shake guys off. I don't see that with Arch, but in terms of extending plays and running and all of that stuff, I think Arches is in the conversation.
Daniel Jeremiah
I would absolutely put him third. I hear what you're saying.
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
I think while Arch is still, like, he's still a developmental.
Todd McShay
I don't.
Daniel Jeremiah
He's not a project. He's still. He's still a work in progress.
Todd McShay
Right.
Daniel Jeremiah
I view that more as mechanically. Mechanically and with his eyes.
Todd McShay
Yep.
Daniel Jeremiah
Arch needs to make. And we saw him start to make those steps. Right.
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
And we. We chronicled it a few shows ago about. It was, you know, he played well against Oklahoma, and they got the win. The next week was brutal. Who did they put? Was it Mississippi State? He didn't play well. I forget the game.
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
But then he. I forget which game it was where I'm like, oh, he's. Was it the f. Was it him, like, standing over one of the defenders? It was like a small Sam Houston State or something like that.
Todd McShay
State. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
But it wasn't even that moment. It was. I get the sense that we're about to see Arch start to just go out and play ball and. And take the. The way. I think he needed one game where it was like, get out of here. And you saw him kind of shed some of that extra weight that he was carrying, Right? Yeah. The emotional baggage. Yeah. I think those three guys. Absolutely. But I think Sellers and Sorsby are that talented. But I also would say, okay, who are the three that are the furthest away in terms of like NFL development, making throws, all that stuff. But you could have said that about Lamar and you could have said that about Josh and you could have said that about Jalen. Hurts, right? And it's funny, you get to the league and it becomes your full time job and every, and you get with the right coaches who get your mind right and focus and, and then you start to build confidence all of a sudden. And, and most importantly, the legs and the mobility allow you to kind of. I didn't get that read right. I, I did the mic wrong, I got the protection wrong, but I got out of it, you know.
Todd McShay
Right.
Daniel Jeremiah
And I extended this plate so. Because I didn't trust my ability to throw into that tight window. So I just extended it and someone broke free and I made an easier throw, you know, so that's, that's kind of where I am with those guys. Highest floor.
Todd McShay
I mean, it's Dante Moore. Right? I mean I think it's Dante Moore. I've got a guy that I, I, I think is really interesting who I think we should mention, but it's Dante Moore from Oregon. To me,
Daniel Jeremiah
I, I don't disagree. I don't totally disagree. Let me throw this back at you. Okay. Would you, despite the fact that he's not developed in the areas we I just touched on, would you not consider Arch Manning as the highest for in the highest floor conversation?
Todd McShay
I'll be honest with you. I almost didn't say that I would use a first round pick for Arch Manning in the, in the supplemental draft because I want to see more. I, and so when, if I'm saying that to myself that I want to see more now ultimately I did decide to do that because I'm betting on him. No, like, no, he doesn't have the highest floor. No, no.
Daniel Jeremiah
But he's big, he's strong, he's sturdy build, he's mobile, he's got plus arm. And the things, the things that he needs to improve upon are areas in which he should improve.
Todd McShay
Yep.
Daniel Jeremiah
And he's and like the character of I'm not saying that anyone but, but, and it's not honestly, I, I, I, I love Archie Manning. You know, I do text with him almost weekly. Right. But we, he and I have a firm understanding that I have a job to do and he, he's, he's a grandfather, you know.
Todd McShay
Right.
Daniel Jeremiah
And, and, and we're cool with that. And I, the utmost respect for Peyton And Eli, his uncles. When I say character, like I'm. I'm talking about mom and dad.
Todd McShay
Right.
Daniel Jeremiah
Like, I don't know mom well, but I know. I know of her and what she stands for and believes in and how she raised him. And I know Cooper pretty well. Like, we'll hang out with him down in Thibodeau. He's one of the funniest, most down to earth dudes that you could ever imagine coming from that family. Right. But they raised the young man that. I'm telling you, when I talked to him for 30 plus minutes about everything but football, I walked away. And like, that guy's different. And you talk to Sark about him and you talk to, you know, no arguments here, man.
Todd McShay
Yep.
Daniel Jeremiah
So all those things and the pressure he's had to deal with. I love quarterbacks when they come in the league and they've had to deal with it. I get scared when they haven't. Right. Yeah. And so. And so I feel like he's had. Even though. Yes, he's spoon, like golden spoon and everything, you would think he's a Manning. And every. He gets every coach he wants. He gets all that. That's true.
Todd McShay
But he took a lot of heat last year.
Daniel Jeremiah
That pressure he was dealing with last year is something unlike any other quarterback in this class and most classes can ever really understand. So I don't know, I just wanted to throw that out there. Who else? You said there's another name.
Todd McShay
Darian Mensah.
Daniel Jeremiah
Man.
Todd McShay
I really think he's got a high floor, man. I like the frame. I think he's going to go to Miami. I think he's going to be a guy that we're talking about. He's going to keep climbing into that group. When you see some of the accuracy, the way he throws guys open, the way he produces yak, I think he's got to fill his frame a little bit. But now, like, he's going. I just think he's gonna. You know, we talk about Sam Levitt at LSU a lot, and understandably so.
Daniel Jeremiah
I don't want to say, boom, bust for Levitt, but he's got some, like, really exciting qualities. But he's got some qualities where it's like they're concerning, you know.
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
You're hoping a year around Lane will help kind of flush out some, you know, let's flush the bad habits and things you think that you. That are okay to try to do. Right?
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
The two names that I got, I'm. I'm a Saiyan guy and I'm not gonna back down from it. And C.J. car, that's fine. I think those, those guys have high floors now. Neither's the biggest. Right. Saying, like, he's gonna have to become the next Drew Brees is what everyone's saying. Right.
Todd McShay
Car is bigger than saying.
Daniel Jeremiah
But yeah, he is. But they're not guys where you look at them and you're like, oh, sturdy frame, big guy. Like, you know.
Todd McShay
Right.
Daniel Jeremiah
But I want to remind people like when saying got rolling last year, how good it was.
Todd McShay
You know, both those guys, when they were, when they were feeling it, they. I mean, they didn't look like first year starters, man.
Daniel Jeremiah
No. And they do some. They do some like real NFL stuff.
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
On their tape. So I'm excited about those guys as well. All right, next question. Who could have a Joe Burrow or Jaden Daniels, like, rise? And I would throw Cam Ward into that. That question as well. A guy who we're talking about mid, you know, he's meh. He's mid round. Like, Jaden was like a third, fourth. If you talk to scouts, Cam Ward was like a fourth, fourth to sixth. Talking to scouts. And I'm not throwing those numbers. I feel like people are always like, well, I've talked to, like, I've talked. Talked to many scouts about those guys leading up and we have the, honestly, the best. Some of the best conversations of the summer before. And just like I remember one scout being like fifth six for Cam Ward. You know, like, I'm. Yeah, I'm good. Like, wait, remember, even in the fall, I said a fall of 2025. No, 2020. Yeah, fall of 2024 before the 25 draft. Like, wait for it with. Wait for it with Cam Ward, the schedule is going to start getting a little tougher and this what he did at Washington State. And he's not. He's going to crumble and he never did. So anyway, with all that background, Joe Burrow, we saw the rise. Jaden Daniels, Cam Ward, who's going to have that kind of rise this year. If you had to, it's. You had to pinpoint. I mean, if we knew.
Todd McShay
Right. It would be.
Daniel Jeremiah
If it.
Todd McShay
Only that was that easy. I'm going with UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaliava. Like, I think that. Think about what's happened since they got smacked by Ohio State in that home playoff game with all the nil stuff, which I think actually started before that game. All the nil stuff surrounding. Is he going to play? Is he not going to play? Tennessee cuts bait. He. You Know, the whole situation didn't reflect well on him and. Or his team. He goes to a UCLA program that is basically in shambles and is kind of fell apart. Coach gets fired in the middle of the season. So what's. What's the situation now? Well, we were a little more removed from what happened at Tennessee. Bob Chesney comes in from a holy cross, is like, we're going to calm all this down. You get an offense corner, Dean Kennedy, who I think really importantly, works well with mobile quarterbacks. And I'm not sure that people realize how well Nico moves. He rushed for 500 yards last year. If you watch the Ohio State playoff game, you knew that was one thing that he had in his pocket, is how well he moved in that game and made plays with his feet. Live arm, good frame, talented player. Now maybe the best position that he's been in at least the last two years, maybe ever in his career to really just focus on the game and do what he can to like, really highlight his ability. I think he is a. He's in like a prime candidate. A prime candidate to just skyrocket up boards. This wasn't like this kid wasn't talented coming out of high school. It's just been a mess the last two years.
Daniel Jeremiah
I totally agree. And he's the first name I wrote down.
Todd McShay
Nice.
Daniel Jeremiah
I also want to mention I think CJ Carr is going to have an awesome year at Notre Dame. And I think Julian saying is going to be one of the biggest stories in college football this season. Those two receivers, I really do.
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
But the guy who is best placed to have that kind of rise is Sam Levitt.
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
I want you to think about what Jackson, like, who Jackson Dart was, USC transfer, kind of just ran around, competitive guy, eye black. Like, he's a good, good college player. But can we. And then I want you to think about what he became that last season with Lane Kiffin. I want you to think about Trinidad Chambliss, Division 2, Ferris State and what he became. And now I'm going to hand you a talent in Sam Levitt.
Todd McShay
Lane
Daniel Jeremiah
with the pressure that's going to come so he. The iron's going to sharpen iron here. And I promise you one of. One of two things is going to happen. First of all, like, he's got to be 100% healthy. And I haven't heard anything about that negatively yet, but I know he's not going to Manning passing academy because he's still like, you know, it was listed as kind of injuries. He still doesn't want to. Whatever the reason.
Todd McShay
Right.
Daniel Jeremiah
That pressure is going to be. That's. It's a different animal playing at Arizona State out in the desert. It's a fun ride. Lsu, there's. This isn't dry heat anymore, bro. This is the humid stuff, right?
Todd McShay
Yep.
Daniel Jeremiah
And I mean that, yes, temperature wise. But I also mean way more importantly. This is like. This is unlike anything you can imagine. The pressure. And it already would be at LSU without Lane. But then I want you to think about with Lane and everything that's gone on in the off, off season and his. So that he's either going to. And this program is either going to absolutely thrive and he's going to be the centerpiece of it and Lane's going to develop them. And I already talked to you about the weapons that they. They have brought in and everything they have, Right?
Todd McShay
Yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah
Or it's not going to work out. But if you were to tell me, hey, he was the fifth pick in the NFL draft, I'd be like, he's got the tools and he was in the right place. Doesn't shock me. So Levitt's the guy that I'm most intrigued by. All right. Last one. Who in this group could end up being the club? Nick Nussmeier. Faller. Did we learn anything from that process?
Todd McShay
I hate this. I hate. I'm just going to be honest about it. This is a player that I love, you know, and I love how much respect and love that you've shown him in this. On this show. I worry about the Lenora Seller situation because of what happened last year. And I understand. New offense coordinator, I understand all of that. But when things go south, and I think we already saw this with Sellers a little bit last year, bad habits really start to emerge. You start forcing, you start pressing, your footwork starts to fall apart. You start getting off reads because you think, I just got to make a play with my feet quickly here. I worry about the situation in South Carolina, what might happen with North Sellers. Now, listen, in order to be in this category, in order for us to be discussing you in this as a possible candidate for this to happen, you have to be ranked high now. And there's a reason why we have him as a top four quarterback, a top three quarterback in this class, and that's because the talent is unbelievable. I talked about the Missouri game two years ago where he just put that team on his back and turned into Superman. And that's when I really fell in love with him. And I think he has like Rare upside. And I think he has the mental toughness and all of the tools that you need to get there. But the situation is concerning. To me,
Daniel Jeremiah
It's a much more exciting and promising situation with Kendall Briles as the offensive coordinator.
Todd McShay
I know,
Daniel Jeremiah
I do too. I like Lenoris. I like the young man. I like what he stands for. I know you do. I'm just saying. Yeah, I don't disagree. It could. Yeah, you don't love the momentum coming in, but probably like they didn't score under 30 points a game at TCU the last three years. They didn't average under fewer than. But my point is like this is an offense that's kind of proven ball out quickly. I think it's going to take some of the, the stuff off his plate in terms of protection, reliant upon all that stuff. So I'm hopeful. But I hear you too, Chambliss for me. Trinidad Shambliss. I, I, this is, this is ridiculous.
Todd McShay
Let me ask you something. Where did you have Kate Clubnik? You had Kate Clubnick as a first round pick.
Daniel Jeremiah
But let me, let me pull up this list. Okay.
Todd McShay
Do you think Trinidad Shambliss is a first round quarterback?
Daniel Jeremiah
I'm, I'm looking at a list from. I don't want to give a title. Very high ranking, not gm, but just under. Okay. Manning, Moore, Sellers, Levitt, Chambliss. Ahead of Sorsby, ahead of Mensa. I've had a car ahead of saying, ahead of all those guys. So fine. So I'm not, so I'm not. I don't think Dante is going to fall off. I don't think March is going to fall off, but I can, I could see him having just a, and like not making it. Huge strides but still being he's going to be a top 10 pick. Yep. I'm looking at this of guys that we're talking about and, and NFL executive text me and he's got him at what, six, one, two, three. Fifth on the list. Fifth.
Todd McShay
You know, I don't, I don't get that one. But yeah, I'm not, I'm not getting,
Daniel Jeremiah
I'm, I'm worried for, I shouldn't say worried. I, I'm, I'm eager to watch. But yeah, there's a little bit in me who that's wondering are they going to be able to support Chambliss in a way that he was supported last year? Will it look the same? That's it. Will it look the same?
Todd McShay
I love Trinidad Chambers as a college.
Daniel Jeremiah
I do too.
Todd McShay
The way he was when he's calling.
Daniel Jeremiah
I was the first one ever to be like, yo, we're this guy's a pick. He, he's not a D2 story. That's cute. And Lane, this is an NFL draft pick at the quarterback position. So like I, I'm feeling successful in that.
Todd McShay
Yeah, he's listed at 6 foot.
Daniel Jeremiah
He's not, he's not my understanding. I could be 511 flat. Could be 5, 10 and change. I don't know.
Todd McShay
Yeah, I don't think. I mean,
Daniel Jeremiah
so according to you, I'm right already.
Todd McShay
Way to go out on limb, boy, to go on a limb and really take a chance there, McShay.
Daniel Jeremiah
Yeah, I feel good about it. I'm going to text this person back and be like, mench thinks you're an for having Chambless as a quarterback. We'll be back after we take a much needed break from one another. Oliver, ring on my finger. Men will be happy.
Todd McShay
Congrats, man.
Daniel Jeremiah
Congratulations. But yeah, and then we, we, we get into it. We got a lot of work to do on this quarterback class, draft class and getting ready for the colle season.
Todd McShay
So quick turnaround for you guys.
Daniel Jeremiah
But until then, I hope everyone enjoys a little time in their summer and Mensch always. Five stars, brother.
Todd McShay
Thanks, man.

Host: Todd McShay (with Daniel Jeremiah)
Date: May 28, 2026
Podcast: The Ringer
Todd McShay, alongside Daniel Jeremiah, delivers an in-depth, way-too-early look at the 2027 NFL Draft quarterback class. The episode sets out to identify the names to know, discuss potential QB rankings, and break down who could rise, fall, or dominate the conversation over the next college football season. The hosts compare this upcoming QB class to historical classes, highlight pressing storylines (like Brendan Sorsby’s eligibility status), and debate who has the highest ceilings and safest floors. As always, their banter is lively, insightful, and full of inside jokes and honest assessments for draft fans and football nerds alike.
Quote:
“This draft has more anticipation than anyone I can remember in 26 years of covering the NFL draft.”
— Daniel Jeremiah, (05:15)
Arch Manning (Texas)
Dante Moore (Oregon)
Lenora Sellers (South Carolina)
Brendan Sorsby (Texas Tech, pending eligibility / court proceedings)
These four could each potentially be “QB1” of the class, depending on how the season shakes out.
Wild Card Factors:
Todd McShay:
"I only feel... Dante Moore is the one I feel the most comfortable with... Arch, I'm willing to bet on the traits." (15:00)
Daniel Jeremiah:
"There’s four that you would use a first round pick to take in supplemental draft... Sellers, Sorsby, Moore, and Manning." (16:34)
Quote:
“I think the highest upside, best tools of the quarterback class reside in the bodies of Lenora Sellers... and Brendan Sorsby...”
— Daniel Jeremiah (16:37)
Todd McShay:
“In terms of extending plays and running and all of that stuff, I think Arch is in the conversation [with Sellers and Sorsby].” (24:42)
Quote:
“I almost didn’t say that I would use a first round pick for Arch Manning... because I want to see more.”
— Todd McShay (28:13)
Quote:
“Nico is in a prime candidate to just skyrocket up boards... It's just been a mess the last two years.”
— Daniel Jeremiah (33:29)
Quote:
“I worry about the Lenora Seller situation because of what happened last year... when things go south... bad habits really start to emerge.”
— Todd McShay (37:47)
The 2027 QB class is set up as a fascinating, wide-open race, with four clear early leaders (Manning, Moore, Sellers, Sorsby) but plenty of room for others to climb or fall. The conversation highlights shifting QB evaluation standards—ceiling vs. floor debates, the impact of transfers and coaching, and the difficulty of making “way too early” calls. McShay and Jeremiah promise thorough, evolving coverage throughout the season, with deeper pairwise breakdowns to come.
Speaker’s Parting Sentiments:
“We’ve got a lot of work to do on this quarterback class and getting ready for the college season... But until then, I hope everyone enjoys a little time in their summer.”
— Daniel Jeremiah (42:45)
