It'S a meat Eater Podcast welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newharth and today we're joined by Yanni Brody, Randall Anthony, Corey Reeva, Seth and Brad Brooks from our. Golly, Brad, how do you think you'll do it?
Corey Reeva
Me?
Spencer Newharth
Deer trivia.
Randall Williams
Pretty poorly? Okay, yeah, pretty poorly. Or average? I'd say like poor to average is my guess, but.
Spencer Newharth
10 questions about hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking. What would you say your strength is from those categories?
Randall Williams
Probably conservation.
Spencer Newharth
Okay. And weakness?
Randall Williams
Cooking? Well, not in real life, but all the time.
Spencer Newharth
I do.
Randall Williams
I just don't know what kind of questions you're going to ask. Like if you talk about squirrel hunting, I don't know. If you want to talk about mule deer or elk, then yeah, there might.
Corey Reeva
Be like a 10. There might be a 10 question.
Yanni Brody
Did you know that this guy read pretty much every editorial article in like 10 different hunting and fishing magazines from the 60s all the way up into the 90s or maybe even early 2000s?
Spencer Newharth
Yanni is pointing at Randall saying he read all those.
Randall Williams
You mean the herd bull? Randall Williams? All those articles?
Brad Brooks
I retained every word.
Spencer Newharth
Is that your nickname? Randall now? The herd. Bullshit.
Brad Brooks
Well, we kind of have a thing. It's kind of an inside thing.
Randall Williams
Officially, yes.
Spencer Newharth
You call him the herd bull.
Randall Williams
I do call him the herd bull.
Spencer Newharth
Okay.
Randall Williams
And there's a story behind it, but I don't think it's appropriate for this show.
Seth
You don't say.
Brad Brooks
I call him the herd bull too.
Spencer Newharth
Oh wow, look at that.
Brad Brooks
There's a couple Alphas in the room.
Spencer Newharth
Uh huh. Was it at one point did you ever call each other the satellite bulls or the raghorns or anything?
Randall Williams
There are only herd bulls in our herd, okay?
Brad Brooks
The satellite bulls. Know who they are.
Spencer Newharth
Well you know what they say. If everyone's a herd bull, then no one's a herd. Bullshit.
Randall Williams
So I've never heard that saying.
Brad Brooks
I heard that.
Spencer Newharth
That's what you're saying.
Randall Williams
No, no, I don't agree with that, but go on.
Brad Brooks
Maybe they whisper that as we walk past.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah, look at those satellite bulls. You think they're herd bulls? All right, this is a 10 round quiz show with questions from Meat Eater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking. And there is a prize. Meat eater will donate 500 to the Conservation organization of the winner's choosing for the stat of the week. This week we're looking at players who average the most points per game at the top of the leaderboard. Do we have any guesses about who averages the most points per game?
Brad Brooks
Brody.
Yanni Brody
I don't know. Maybe Brody or Randall.
Spencer Newharth
Randall says Brody with an eye roll. Brody, do you think it's you?
Seth
I'll say Randall. That way we're covering both each other.
Spencer Newharth
At the top of the leaderboard is Randall with 7.0 points. Got a game.
Corey Reeva
He's about to rip off a bugle.
Brad Brooks
Is that all time?
Spencer Newharth
All time. That's. Those are her bowl numbers there. 7.04 points.
Brad Brooks
My heart is fluttering.
Spencer Newharth
That's followed by Brody with 6.8, Steve with 6.23, Johnny with 6.08, Cal with 5.1.
Seth
Steve, like he doesn't even play anymore.
Spencer Newharth
I know.
Randall Williams
Yeah, back then it was easier when Steve played.
Spencer Newharth
Steve's hard to schedule with. People will ask about him coming on trivia.
Seth
I'm just saying his stats don't add up, like based on the number of times he's played.
Spencer Newharth
In fact, we've had to punt on the Meat Eater 2024. Meat Eater trivia tournament until 2025. We're going to record that in January because we couldn't get studio time with Steve, so.
Seth
Busy man.
Spencer Newharth
Busy, busy man. And last we have Seth with 4.92 points per game. Randall, top of the leaderboard. Did you think your number was around seven one?
Brad Brooks
I figured it was around seven.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah. That's a winning score right there. 7.04. Yeah.
Brad Brooks
Oh, that's a good start to today. Although as we know, I like to.
Spencer Newharth
Crash, but you kind of started with a crash. We had Randall as the guest on One Minute Fishing today, where you have one minute to catch a fish for me to radio live. And if you're successful, you get to make a $500 conservation donation. Randall was the angler in his first CA. Tell them about it, Randy.
Brad Brooks
Well, we had a strong west northwest wind and I can see where this is going. Caught my number four panther Martin about mid arc. Carried it into the tree. At that point I thought it was done and I almost just set the fishing rod down because I was laughing, but I gave it one frustrated swing and popped right out. So you know that wasn't a total loss.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah, you don't even have to use your imagination. You can watch that on Meat Eaters YouTube channel Meat Eater Radio Live, the 1114 episode.
Brad Brooks
I will say I didn't have much confidence going into that given the track record of our pond back there. So I felt better about walking into the studio today to play trivia.
Spencer Newharth
Can you believe that, Seth? Nobody's been successful in one minute fishing at the Meat Eater pond.
Corey Reeva
It just doesn't fish well in the fall. Yeah, never has.
Spencer Newharth
Okay.
Corey Reeva
Probably never will.
Spencer Newharth
There's only two fish in there. You guys keep catching them.
Corey Reeva
I think all those fish move in the into the creek when the water temps drop.
Brad Brooks
You didn't give me that intel before my humiliation.
Seth
It's also spawning season, so there's a good chance they're in some moving water.
Randall Williams
I thought you caught one, Seth.
Spencer Newharth
After the one minute.
Phil
After the one.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah, anyone can do that. Now here's our infrequently asked question segment. If you have a trivia related question for our crew, send it to triviahemeteater.com with the subject line IFAQ, also known as what is it?
Yanni Brody
Also known as a way for Spencer to plop in whatever interesting thing he thinks you should know about.
Spencer Newharth
Here it is from Anthony Painter. This week he says, I'd like to know what podcasts my favorite podcasters listen to. I bet Randall likes something boring and Giannis likes something about working out. And Brody will say he doesn't have time for podcasts. Randall, what boring thing do you listen to?
Brad Brooks
The Ryan Rossillo Show. Say that right now.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah. Okay. Yanni. What? What Working out podcast.
Yanni Brody
I do listen to Trail Runner Nation every now and then.
Spencer Newharth
Exciting.
Yanni Brody
But honestly, I listen to Mark Kenyon's Wired to Hunt a lot. And I listen to Jared Van Heese's Habitat podcast a lot.
Spencer Newharth
And Brody, are you now going to tell us you don't have time for podcasts?
Seth
Normally, no, but I do listen to quite a bit with my older son and I like listening to history that doesn't suck.
Phil
Great.
Seth
Fantastic.
Spencer Newharth
And of course, everything from the M.E. deeter network you listen to as well. Oh yeah, all of it. Just like Phil. Phil, besides all the meat eater podcasts, what do you listen to? I bet you got some. Some eclectic taste.
Phil
Yeah, I'm not, I'm not embarrassed to say it. A couple of Dungeons and Dragons podcast Podcast the ride about theme parks. Like a lot of Ringer shows, too. Like the Big Picture and the Watch. Big fan of those.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah, yeah, Ringer's got good stuff. I like Ringer, Barstool, npr. They all got good podcasts. We have some housekeeping to get to. I made a bad error in episode 624 from a few weeks back. Our first question of that show was about which national park doesn't have bison. Your options were Rocky Mountain, Badlands, Glacier, and Theodore Roosevelt. I said the correct answer was Rocky Mountain, but it turns out there were two correct answers because Glacier doesn't have bison either. At least not yet. In 2023, there were 40 bison released on the Blackfeet Reservation. Thus far, they have stayed on tribal land, but according to the Glacier National Park Conservancy, there is hope that they'll spread into the northeast corner of Glacier in the coming years. Multiple agencies are in agreement that the goal is to have a bison herd that moves across reservation, national park, and international boundaries. But since the herd hasn't moved into Glacier yet, that would also be an acceptable answer for that question. This correction does not change the outcome of the game, although it would give Alyssa, Nate, and Tressa an extra point. So I got that one just flat out wrong. The Shelby index for today is a four, so our winner should get eight correct answers. And with that, we're on to the game of trivia. Play the drop philosopher. Look, I need to know what I stand to win. Everything. How's that?
Corey Reeva
Just tend to win everything.
Randall Williams
Game on, suckers.
Spencer Newharth
Question 1. The topic is biology, and as always, this will be multiple choice. According to the University of Washington, which of these animals sleeps the most? Is it fruit bat, cottontail, rabbit, mallard or donkey? This is via the University of Washington. Which of these animals sleeps the most? Fruit bat, cottontail, rabbit, mallard, or donkey?
Brad Brooks
Brad, there's a monitor behind you as well if you'd like to revisit the question or your possible answers.
Spencer Newharth
Fruit back, cottontail, rabbit, mallard or donkey? Randall was the quickest to answer. How confident are you, Randall?
Brad Brooks
Not very.
Spencer Newharth
Okay, Brody, could you narrow it down to two if you had to?
Seth
Man, not really. This is a good question.
Spencer Newharth
Well, I don't know if it's a good question. If it's too hard, we'll see how the room does. I think it's a good question.
Seth
What I wrote down, though.
Spencer Newharth
It's a good question if, like 2.
Seth
To 6, this is not appropriate.
Spencer Newharth
Well, I don't know who wrote that. Brody. Brody has found Some graffiti on his whiteboard that he deemed not appropriate, so he just put a line through them.
Brad Brooks
When we were. When we were recording the new Mountain man audiobook the other day, our director, who's piping in remote, asked us who Brody is because he saw the socket Brody sticker on one of the mic booms.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, one last time. Which of these animals sleeps the most? Fruit bat, cottontail, rabbit, mallard or donkey? Does everyone have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth and Corey saying mallard. Anthony says fruit bat. Randall says a bat. Reva says donkey. Brad says a bat. Giannis, donkey. Brody, fruit bat.
Yanni Brody
Someone's gonna get it right.
Spencer Newharth
Nobody said cottontail rabbit.
Yanni Brody
Oh, that's. Darn it.
Spencer Newharth
The correct answer is fruit bat.
Seth
About half a body.
Spencer Newharth
Got that one right.
Brad Brooks
Big dog.
Spencer Newharth
Fruit Bats sleep for 20 hours a day, which is 83% of their life. Mallards sleep for about 11 hours. Cottontails for eight hours and donkeys for three hours. Bats need to sleep so much because they use so much energy while away from the roost.
Seth
That's what I thought.
Spencer Newharth
Question 2. The topic is hunting. This is our listener question of the week, which was won by Ross Hotmeyer for sending this great question. Ross is going to get a board game signed by the crew. If you want a chance to win the listener question of the week, then send your question to Trivia themeat. Com hall of Famer Chipper Jones started hosting the TV show Major League Bow Hunter after finishing his 19 year career with this baseball team.
Brad Brooks
Phil, I want you to let you know that your drop made Brad smile a lot.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, he loved it.
Phil
Oh, the one for trivia.
Randall Williams
Yeah, I did like the drop, so I've never heard it before and I was very impressed.
Phil
Yeah, see, I've heard it probably 430 times, so it's nice to have some fresh eyes.
Spencer Newharth
Remind me, Phil, we've had a few requests to change up the overtime drop. Now, since we've had the current Steve cursing version for a little bit, we've now seen how you can flex your musical muscles for the Meat Eater radio program. Maybe there's something new available for the Meat Eater overtime.
Phil
Yeah, I'll stew on it. If you guys have any ideas, let me know.
Spencer Newharth
You stew on it.
Phil
Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Here's the question again. It's question two. The topic is hunting. Hall of Famer Chipper Jones started hosting the TV show Major League Bow Hunter after finishing his 19 year career with this baseball team.
Seth
Corey and Randall, baseball players like hunting.
Spencer Newharth
They do. They're in the right Sport for it. As long as they don't go to the World Series each year. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth saying Braves. Corey says Atlanta Braves. Anthony Braves. Randall Braves. Reva Cubs. Brad says a team that doesn't exist anymore, the Indians. Giannis says Braves. Brody says Braves. Well, back then, he could have been the Braves.
Brad Brooks
That's historically accurate.
Spencer Newharth
They weren't. They weren't the guardians quite yet. The correct answer, though, is the Atlanta Braves. The room did very well. I'm impressed at how well you guys did. Yanni Brody, was that a guess, or did you just know who Chipper Jones played for?
Seth
I knew a guess.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah.
Yanni Brody
I mean, that's a lot of teams from just a four.
Spencer Newharth
Okay, so you just knew it. Chipper was such a dedicated hunter that he went deer hunting before Game 1 of the 1995 World Series. He was a rookie that year and said he couldn't sleep that morning, so he headed to the woods to try to relax. The Braves won the World Series, and Chipper Jones went on to become one of the best switch hitters in baseball history. Question 3. The topic is fishing. This next great question is via Justin Schmitz. This RV brand shares its name with a Wisconsin lake that's famous for lake sturgeon. This RV brand shares its name with a Wisconsin lake that's famous for lake sturgeon. Brad Brody. Randall.
Yanni Brody
Brad wrote it down.
Seth
Speaking of Wisconsin, Chester just got a nice one, huh?
Spencer Newharth
That's right.
Randall Williams
How would you know y'all unless you were looking at what I was.
Corey Reeva
That was my spot.
Yanni Brody
I was looking at what you were writing, but I was just noticing that your board was turned up to the whole world.
Randall Williams
How do you know? How do you. I don't know how to ride it without you.
Brad Brooks
Just go.
Randall Williams
You lean back. You gotta lean back.
Brad Brooks
You hunch over.
Randall Williams
There's a. Oh, yeah.
Brad Brooks
I'll show you that. Johnny or Trapezius.
Spencer Newharth
Yanni would never cheat, though. We've got cameras all over this room. If you were to try to pull it off, someone would call you on it. So you gotta play an honest game in here.
Randall Williams
Did you look at my board, Reba.
Seth
Hasn't Max been caught cheating?
Spencer Newharth
No.
Yanni Brody
Or.
Seth
That's not confirmed.
Spencer Newharth
He was accused, but we had people who looked at the evidence and deemed that Max did not cheat. That's good. There was no cheating from Max.
Yanni Brody
He just doesn't do his dishes.
Spencer Newharth
No, no. We also learned that out to not be true.
Phil
Can't do it.
Spencer Newharth
He's been exonerated on all charges. Does everybody have an answer for the RV brand that shares its name with a Wisconsin lake that's famous for Lake Sturgeon? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth and Corey saying Winnebago, Anthony says Airstream, Randall, Winnebago, Riva, Superior, Brad, Giannis and Brody saying Winnebago. They got it. The correct answer is Winnebago. Winnebago is a Native American term that roughly translates to murky water. The RV brand is named after Winnebago County, Iowa, which is home of the company and the Winnebago tribe. Wisconsin's Lake Winnebago has one of the world's largest lake sturgeon populations, where about 9% of spears are successful each winter.
Corey Reeva
If you want a good laugh, go on YouTube and watch Winnebago Man.
Brad Brooks
I was just about to go there.
Spencer Newharth
Winnebago Man.
Brad Brooks
Have you not seen this?
Spencer Newharth
I have not.
Brad Brooks
Oh God.
Spencer Newharth
Is he a caricature of people from Wisconsin?
Brad Brooks
It's outtakes from a a local television commercial. And this man gets incredibly frustrated that he can't deliver the lines properly. He's very foul mouthed. It's profane, so don't watch around your children. But if you want to watch an RV salesman just scream and slam, his just melt down. Yeah, he just has a complete meltdown.
Spencer Newharth
Film this Winnebago Man.
Brad Brooks
And there's a documentary about it too. Yeah, it's great.
Corey Reeva
He got fired because of that.
Brad Brooks
Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Question four. The topic is cooking. Mariam Webster defines this seven letter condiment as, quote, a thick sauce of Indian origin that contains fruits, vinegar, sugar and spices. Merriam Webster defines this seven letter condiment as a thick sauce of Indian origin that contains fruits, vinegar, sugar and spices. Seth and Randall, quick to answer. I might actually get one right this time. Okay, Reva. Also coffee. Phil, are we missing the TikTok noise right now?
Phil
Thanks for reminding me. I was thinking about some of the podcasts I listened to. I'm on another planet.
Spencer Newharth
Do you want to share with us what those are?
Phil
Oh, yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Tell me about this amusement park podcast.
Phil
Oh, it's incredible. Podcast the ride, hosted by three comedy writers in LA, as 90% of podcasts are. But yeah, they just, they dive into the minutiae and they kind of, when they run out of stuff to do, they look around for other weird sort of theme park adjacent things in media to talk about.
Spencer Newharth
Just like us.
Phil
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Brad Brooks
I also want to Shout out all the Smoke podcast hosted by Steven Jackson and Matt Barnes.
Spencer Newharth
You're a big fan of that.
Brad Brooks
You want to get an insider's take on what's happening in the NBA right now. Phil also turned me into a podcast about chain restaurants.
Phil
Doughboys. Yeah, that's my favorite podcast. I don't know if you've actually listened to it, Randy.
Yanni Brody
I did.
Spencer Newharth
I did.
Brad Brooks
Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Okay. Oh, God. Again, we're on question four, which Seth, Randall, and Reeva are confident. Do you have this one right, Corey? Man, I think so. Okay. Brad, do you have this one right?
Randall Williams
I have no idea, but I have a confident answer.
Spencer Newharth
Okay. Seven letter condiment. That's a thick sauce of Indian origin that contains fruits, vinegar, sugar, and spices.
Phil
Also, many video game podcasts.
Spencer Newharth
Okay, keep going, Phil. Brad, I saw one of your Argali game bags walking around here this morning. Corinne was parading around a coyote fur that she has. She whipped it out right in Randall's face, and Randall was disgusted.
Randall Williams
Yeah, you can really carry anything in a game bag, Spencer.
Spencer Newharth
And it didn't smell until she opened up the game bags.
Brad Brooks
Well, it turns. Until she turned the fur inside out like a prolapsed, you know, it was not a pleasant. We got. We got. We got a good word.
Randall Williams
You don't need to use that word ever.
Spencer Newharth
That was the start of Phil's bad day. I think Phil said three or four times, corinne, can you take that out of here? Corinne, can you get that out of here? Corinne?
Phil
Yeah. It was almost like she was ignoring me on purpose.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah. And turned into me lighting a candle in here, which might be the first time in Meat Eaters podcast studio history.
Randall Williams
I was wondering why that was burning.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah, we wanted it just to be.
Yanni Brody
A little bit warmer in here.
Brad Brooks
Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Does everyone have an answer for the thick sauce of Indian origin that contains fruits, vinegar, sugar, and spices?
Yanni Brody
I guess so.
Spencer Newharth
Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth saying ketchup. Corey says cutney or chutney. Anthony without an answer. Randall says chutney. Riva Chutney. Brad. Ketchup. Giannis ketchup. Brody crossed. He wrote down ketchup. The correct answer is chutney. About half of the room got that one right.
Yanni Brody
Son of a. I think that ketchup might also be correct.
Spencer Newharth
A definition of a thick sauce of Indian origin that contains fruits, vinegar, sugar, and spices. If Merriam Webster has that exact same definition, I will give it to you, but I don't think that's going to be the case.
Randall Williams
Are tomatoes a fruit?
Seth
Yep.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah.
Randall Williams
So again, ketchup have vinegar in it?
Brad Brooks
Is it of Indian origin?
Spencer Newharth
I told you that it has to be defined as what Merriam Webster had. Now, chutney can be served as a dipping sauce for naan, as a condiment for curry, or as a spread for toast. For a great chutney recipe, watch Steve's video on Themeadeater.com called Seared Duck Breast with Apple Sage Chutney.
Brad Brooks
There is some chutney in this. This here clamshell container.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, I'll point out Randall was eating some. What'd you have there, Randall?
Brad Brooks
I think it was lamb.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah, lamb curry. Exactly what you want in a podcast studio. That's about the size.
Brad Brooks
Again, this is also attributable to Corinne.
Phil
Yeah, much more appetizing than what Corinne had in here.
Spencer Newharth
Question 5. The topic is woodsmanship. This is an audio question. Phil is going to play you 20 seconds of an animal vocalization. You need to tell me what animal he's making that sound.
Phil
Oh, yeah, sorry, guys. You might have to do some headphone swapping.
Spencer Newharth
Once Seth puts on the headphones, we're gonna hear this animal vocalization. You need to tell me what animal is making that sound. How about Yanni? You can stretch it.
Phil
You can stretch it.
Brad Brooks
Just.
Phil
He has to wear them for 20 seconds.
Spencer Newharth
All right, take it away, Phil. Need to tell me what that animal is that's making that sound. This is question five. We will get a scoreboard update from Phil the engineer after this. Phil, maybe you could play it one more time. I think our players are going to need this 20 seconds. Come up with their answer.
Phil
Oh, sure.
Spencer Newharth
Seth. The only player to have an answer so far, Brad, has now joined him. How specific do we need to be here? Like, if I say lab, do you need black lab? You should put black lab for that. That is right.
Seth
Play it again, Phil.
Randall Williams
One more time might help.
Phil
Casablanca. Do you want to do a different one, Spencer, or just that one?
Spencer Newharth
Let's keep it at that one. Okay, let's just do that one.
Phil
Sure.
Seth
What do you mean, a different one?
Spencer Newharth
Nothing.
Brad Brooks
There you go.
Spencer Newharth
Seth. The only player with an answer so far.
Corey Reeva
It could be wrong. It could be wrong. Spencer.
Spencer Newharth
Does that sound familiar? Has everyone heard this before?
Yanni Brody
Oh, yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Everyone's in agreement, but it's not helping them find what animal is making that noise. If you like trying to figure out what animal vocalization sound like, you can check out the Meat Eater Kids podcast that starts up here again in a few weeks. Right, Phil? What's the first day that that drops again?
Phil
The 25th. So I think it's out now.
Spencer Newharth
November 25th. Coming out very soon. If it's not out now, it will be out soon. We have a segment in there called Guess that Critter, which is similar to this question. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth saying blue jay. Corey says Stellar's jay wish is also blue. Anthony says red tailed hawk. Randall says woodpecker. Reva says a bird. Brad says ground squirrel. Giannis. Blue jay. Brody says Magpie. We have a correct answer in the room. It's a blue jay. Yanni and Seth got that one right, Corey. So close. I'm gonna look this up, actually. Oh, yeah, this came from the All About Birds website. What do they know? Well, yeah, now blue jays use that jeer call to assemble other jays warn of predators and keep track of each other. They are also masterful at mimicking other birds such as hawks, eagles and owls. They'll do this to signal that a bird of prey is in the area or to scare off other songbirds to keep them away from food. Phil, we're halfway through the game of trivia. Give us a scoreboard update.
Phil
Everyone's on the board, but no one has a perfect game. Reva has one point. Brad and Anthony have two. Seth, Corey, Giannis and Brody all have three points apiece. And in first place, Mr. 7.0 something, Randall Williams. He's got four.
Brad Brooks
Nicely done.
Randall Williams
That would have been better coming for you, buddy.
Brad Brooks
Please.
Randall Williams
I'm gonna. I'm gonna woodpecker Randall.
Brad Brooks
I mean, birds are not my forte, I'll say that.
Spencer Newharth
Hey, guys. Earlier this year we launched Meat Eater Kids Podcast and we made a deal where if you guys liked it and loved it and listened to it, we were going to make more. And you did. And we did. And we're dropping a bunch. New five new Meat Eater Kids podcast episodes starting November 25th. Again, it's a kid show. You listen to it with your kids. It occurs in three acts. There's a little history lesson or a wildlife ecology lesson. There's a animal call game that you play by listening to animal calls and trying to guess what animals you're hearing based on some clues. And then real live kids come in the studio and play kids trivia and work together to build up a little pot of money to donate to kids focused conservation organizations. So, Meat Eater Kids Podcast coming back, Round two.
Randall Williams
Meeter Kids.
Spencer Newharth
Question six. The topic is mountain men. And this next great question is via YA Yang.
Phil
Oh, we know him.
Spencer Newharth
Nazi Hunter. Although the Apache Rain claims to be a descendant of Jim Bridger, in this 2009 movie, Nazi Hunter, Aldo the Apache Rain claims to be a descendant of Jim bridger in this 2009 movie. Randall, the only player. Oh, Brody now as well. Randall and Brody have an answer. Yanni is joining them. Yanni, do you have this one right?
Randall Williams
Let's see the movie.
Spencer Newharth
Yanni.
Yanni Brody
I just have a good guess.
Spencer Newharth
Okay, a good guess. Brad said he can see the movie.
Randall Williams
I can see the characters in the movie. I can actually see the scenes in the movie. I'm just trying to think of the title.
Spencer Newharth
Nazi hunter. Aldo the Apache Rain claims to be a descendant of Jim bridger in this 2009 movie. Oh, Johnny, who kind of liked his answer before, is going back to the whiteboard.
Brad Brooks
Goodness gracious.
Spencer Newharth
Brody, do you have this one right?
Phil
Yep.
Spencer Newharth
Randall, do you have this one? I do. Only I saw it in a theater.
Seth
The day it opened.
Brad Brooks
Brad knows it too.
Spencer Newharth
We are learning about Brody that he. He has a lot of cinema knowledge. It appears. I don't know, doesn't have time for podcasts, but he knows his movies. Yanni, how do you feel about your answer now?
Yanni Brody
Even better than the last.
Spencer Newharth
Even better.
Randall Williams
This is killing me, man.
Spencer Newharth
Corey, do you have this? Right, Got it. Okay. Top three favorite movies. Wow. And it took you that long to come up with an answer? Yep. Okay. Half the players have an answer that they really like. The other half of the players not put anything on their whiteboard. Seth Anthony, Reva, Brad, are you going to come up with answers? I have something.
Randall Williams
I don't know if I am.
Spencer Newharth
I know the movie.
Corey Reeva
I just don't know the movie.
Randall Williams
I can literally recite to you some of the language from the movie, some of the dialogue from the movie. Yeah, same.
Spencer Newharth
Although the Apache Rain claims to be a descendant of Jim Bridger in this 2009 movie.
Seth
What was I doing?
Randall Williams
I could name the director.
Spencer Newharth
I could name.
Corey Reeva
I was graduating high school.
Spencer Newharth
Brody, did you like this movie?
Seth
Oh, it's excellent.
Spencer Newharth
Excellent movie.
Brad Brooks
Fantastic movie.
Spencer Newharth
To Brody.
Seth
My God.
Spencer Newharth
Is everybody ready?
Randall Williams
Yeah, go for it.
Spencer Newharth
I'm gonna have to go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth without an answer. Corey says Inglourious Bastards. Anthony says Braveheart. Randall. Inglorious Bastards. Reva. Inglorious Bastards. Brad without an answer. Yanni crossed out Re Put down Inglorious Bastards. Brody with the same answer. The correct answer is Inglorious Basterds. The room did pretty well. Lt. Aldo Raine gets his nickname the Apache due to his trademark scalping of Germans he defeats. He's a coal miner and bootlegger from the Great Smoky Mountains where he fought against the kkk. When introducing himself to his soldiers, he says he has some native American in him and is quote the direct descendant of the mountain men, Jim Bridger. Question 7. The topic is fishing. This next great question is via Michael Stedniski. This company with an alliterative name invented an ice fishing device that sets the hook for you which was banned in Minnesota. This company with an alliterative name invented an ice fishing device that sets the hook for you, which was banned in Minnesota. Yanni, Brody, Seth, they all like their answers. Corey, do you know this one? I believe so.
Yanni Brody
I believe I know the family that came up with this product. We hunted with him. He was a guest on the Meat Eaters.
Seth
You should not be giving out so many hints.
Yanni Brody
We didn't discuss this on that show.
Spencer Newharth
Well, I talk about the inventor in the flavor text, so you can confirm then if that's who you're thinking of.
Phil
One thing I've noticed about your fishing equipment question, Spencer, is I'd say most of the time they have an alliterative name.
Spencer Newharth
Yes, the fishing industry likes to do that. It would. It would be very beneficial to you if you don't know what alliteration is to learn it for meat eater trivia because I use that hint often. This company with an alliterative name invented an ice fishing device.
Yanni Brody
What are you guys doing on your over there?
Corey Reeva
Oh, I just had a picture of a giant bull elf come through.
Spencer Newharth
I've been getting Moultrie notifications as well. South trail and rub line each got photos while we're sitting here. It is November.
Corey Reeva
I discipline to not look.
Spencer Newharth
You know what, I'm going to join you, Seth.
Yanni Brody
I don't know how you guys do the notifications thing. I think that shows a real age.
Corey Reeva
No, I just don't have 10 million trail cameras out like you do. Yours would just be like nonstop all day. I get like two a day.
Spencer Newharth
You got him, Seth? Yep. Now he just shaking his head.
Seth
All right then let's everyone have an.
Spencer Newharth
Answer for the company with an alliterative name that invented an ice fishing device that sets the hook for you, which was banned in Minnesota.
Yanni Brody
Brody, do you have any notifications set on your phone other than texts?
Spencer Newharth
Nope.
Seth
Actually that's not true. I got some like headline news stuff on there.
Yanni Brody
Brad, how about you?
Spencer Newharth
You're.
Yanni Brody
You're not.
Corey Reeva
I have text trail cameras and when the northern lights are going to be visible.
Brad Brooks
Oh, Brad's 41. It's not a big deal.
Corey Reeva
That's all I got though is three.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah, I've got.
Randall Williams
No, I don't do any notifications other Than text messages. It's too. Otherwise my phone would be going off all the damn time.
Spencer Newharth
Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have set. And Corey saying jawjacker. Anthony says, no idea. Randall says tip top. Reba without an answer. Brad says Rapala. Yanni, Brody say jawjacker. They got it. The correct answer is jawjacker. God damn it.
Yanni Brody
I think we got a tie game here, folks.
Spencer Newharth
Matt Dungan of Idaho invented The Jawjacker in 2007.
Seth
Is this the guy?
Spencer Newharth
Matt Dungan was that the guy? Matt Duncan of Idaho invented The Jawjacker in 2007. He said the idea was insane. Inspired by the trigger mechanisms on the possum traps that he used. Growing up in Tennessee, Minnesota is one of the only places where auto hook setters are illegal. But in a 2023 Facebook comment from the DNR, they said they were revisiting that law. So ice anglers, they're optimistic that they can use the jawjacker soon.
Brad Brooks
And there's no status update on that 2020 comment.
Spencer Newharth
They said in 2023.
Brad Brooks
Oh, that.
Spencer Newharth
They said it probably wouldn't be ready for that ice season. And as of 2024, we're probably coming up on ice season right now within a few days. It is still not legal.
Brad Brooks
I misheard you. I thought you just said 2020.
Spencer Newharth
Question makes more sense now. Question 8. The topic is cooking. Rockstar chef Guy Fieri is an elected government official of what municipality?
Brad Brooks
What?
Seth
What's the category?
Spencer Newharth
Cooking.
Seth
Oh, my God.
Spencer Newharth
Rock star chef Guy Fieri.
Yanni Brody
Randall knows it.
Spencer Newharth
Is an elected governor. Government official.
Seth
This is a stretch, man.
Spencer Newharth
What municipality? And Randall is the only player who's confident. Brad said he's got a wild guess. No other players have an answer.
Phil
I deleted Twitter off my phone and replaced it with a virtual Pokemon card game. So I get it. I get a notification every time I can open a booster pack.
Spencer Newharth
Hell yes.
Phil
I've never been happier.
Spencer Newharth
Well, we'll get some more app and podcast. Check ins with you.
Brad Brooks
I thought you were gonna say you deleted Twitter and added a Guy Fieri app.
Spencer Newharth
I thought so too. I thought Guy Fieri fit into this somewhere. Rockstar Chef Guy Fieri is an elected government official of what?
Seth
Why is he a rock star chef?
Spencer Newharth
Have you ever seen the guy?
Seth
But he's not a rock star.
Spencer Newharth
There are articles that identify him as a rock star chef.
Randall Williams
He's a bad boy, bro. Oh, yeah.
Spencer Newharth
If you're a chef who, like, has a look and sits courtside at Lakers games, you're a Rockstar chef. Do you have an answer, Yanni?
Corey Reeva
He haunts, right?
Yanni Brody
I do have an answer, and I'm feeling better about it after maybe that possibility.
Spencer Newharth
Okay. I don't know if he hunts, but I've seen him talk about venison. Yeah, he does like venison city, and.
Brad Brooks
I believe he's, like, a good guy.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, okay.
Brad Brooks
Yeah, I think he's like. I think he's a solid character.
Spencer Newharth
I'd like that to be true. Rockstar Chef Guy Fieri is an elected government official of what municipality named.
Corey Reeva
Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth and Corey saying Los Angeles. Anthony says City of Columbus. Randall says Flavortown. Riva says fda. Brad, Atlantic City. Yanni, Louisiana. Brody, Louisiana. The correct answer is Flavortown.
Brad Brooks
Randall is the mayor of Flavortown.
Spencer Newharth
Got that one right.
Randall Williams
Give me a break.
Yanni Brody
How did you.
Seth
Yeah. That's huge. Guy Fieri.
Spencer Newharth
Guy Fieri claims to be the mayor of Flavortown. A catchphrase that has birthed merch recipes, and even a restaurant called Flavortown Kitchen. The slogan came from an episode of Diners Drive Ins and Dives where Guy is looking at a pizza and compliments it by saying, quote, that looks like a manhole cover in Flavortown.
Yanni Brody
So hold on. A real place.
Seth
And he wasn't elected.
Randall Williams
He's not elected.
Corey Reeva
It's not a municipality.
Yanni Brody
From the end.
Brad Brooks
Ice fishing is better than Guy Fieri.
Phil
Yes.
Yanni Brody
At least we're talking about real things.
Seth
He's not elected. It's not a municipality.
Spencer Newharth
Come on.
Brad Brooks
If you know the subject, anything about clever. It's a clever question.
Spencer Newharth
My stomach dropped out.
Seth
Game cooking. Nothing.
Spencer Newharth
The first word.
Yanni Brody
Does it count as a municipality?
Spencer Newharth
If you go to his Instagram account, it says mayor of Flavortown.
Yanni Brody
Yeah, let's.
Phil
I'm here in Bozeman, Montana, full of flaws.
Spencer Newharth
He's come to Bozeman. That's right. He's went to Storm Castle.
Seth
You can defend this all you want. It's. It doesn't belong.
Brad Brooks
I'll add a bit of flavor. Text. When I caught Covid at Shot show and I had to quarantine at the Link Hotel for seven days.
Spencer Newharth
Yep.
Brad Brooks
This is right after the CDC changed the recommended quarantine time. Guy Fury's restaurant, Guy Fury's Great American Bar and Grill, is in the Link. And so I had a chance to eat a lot of his food. And let me tell you, it's very nice.
Yanni Brody
A municipality is a political unit with a defined territory, corporate status, and usually some powers of autonomous government.
Brad Brooks
It's obviously kind of like the same.
Corey Reeva
Definition of chutney and ketchup.
Spencer Newharth
That's right. Nothing sets on to some of the laws in Flavortown. Include that you have to salt pasta, water, you always use extra bacon. The law. And you must quote sauce with authority.
Corey Reeva
Phil, give us all a point.
Yanni Brody
I'm pretty close to walking out of here.
Brad Brooks
Bill, we have two thoughts on that question. Three questions left.
Spencer Newharth
Phil, what were your thoughts on that question?
Phil
It tickles me that Randall was the only one who got it right. But your Spencer, I have to say, for the first time in meat eater trivia history, this is a sham.
Brad Brooks
Cooking electric.
Seth
Total sham. Bill agrees.
Spencer Newharth
He's. He claims to be the mayor Flavort.
Seth
One of your greatest supporters disagrees.
Brad Brooks
He's one of our. He's one of our top figures in American culinary culture right now.
Yanni Brody
We're not arguing that.
Brad Brooks
And his nickname is the mayor of Flavortown.
Yanni Brody
Okay?
Seth
National elected official.
Randall Williams
It should have had one nickname.
Brad Brooks
Have we never had a question in here where you need to read between the lines? Because there's some clue in it that.
Spencer Newharth
Phil, we have two questions left. Give us a scoreboard update. Yeah, that's the problem right there.
Phil
Here we are. You know that we did have a four way tie, but Randall just broke on through with that last question. But unfortunately, Reva, Brad and Anthony are no longer in the running. But Giannis, Brody. All right, Seth's got four points. He's still in the game. Corey, Giannis and Brody have five. And now Dr. Randall has six points.
Spencer Newharth
And right here on foodnetwork.com there is a Texas Venice and chili recipe from Guy Fieri.
Brad Brooks
What if the question. What if the question, what animal is the king of the jungle?
Seth
You guys can sit here and you're.
Spencer Newharth
Just like, the jungle isn't a government.
Seth
King Kong trying to.
Brad Brooks
There's not an actual crown on that animal.
Seth
It's a horrible question.
Randall Williams
Should have said, what's his nickname? And then you said the marathon.
Brad Brooks
No, this is. That's clever.
Spencer Newharth
Question 9. The topic is hunting. You guys are really not gonna like this one. This pharaoh was buried with a statue that depicts himself hunting hippos with a harpoon. The topic is hunting. Randall's on it. This pharaoh was buried with a statue that depicts himself hunting hippos.
Brad Brooks
I only know a handful of pharaohs, you guys.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah, I think I'm gonna check out this Texas venison chili recipe from Guy Fieri later on.
Phil
I'd love to hear about it.
Seth
Maybe you can win the chili cook off with it, Spencer.
Spencer Newharth
Well, I won it last year, so we're gonna run back the same recipe.
Yanni Brody
Tell you what recipe.
Spencer Newharth
What's that?
Corey Reeva
The one in the meteor cookbook.
Spencer Newharth
That's the one that I brought to.
Corey Reeva
The chili cook off.
Yanni Brody
What place did you get?
Corey Reeva
Didn't place.
Brad Brooks
I actually read an article recently about someone who just bought a chili and brought it to a chili cook off and won. And it was like. The article was just kind of a joke, but it inspired me.
Spencer Newharth
It's kind of like flavor town.
Yanni Brody
It's kind of what Spencer did last year to win his. Did you. Do you know about the recipe that he used?
Brad Brooks
No.
Yanni Brody
It has baked beans out of a can in it.
Spencer Newharth
What a sham. Yanni thinks. Why does that bother you so much?
Yanni Brody
Because it's like you didn't make it.
Spencer Newharth
You know, the tomatoes.
Yanni Brody
I didn't make either stuff, but there. It's a, like, ingredient.
Spencer Newharth
I didn't make chili peppers.
Yanni Brody
It's a raw ingredient.
Spencer Newharth
Mm. I didn't make most. I didn't make the corn.
Corey Reeva
There's no corn in there from a can in there.
Yanni Brody
Baked beans.
Spencer Newharth
What if somebody put beer or barbecue sauce in their chili? Would that bother you?
Brad Brooks
Hot sauce.
Yanni Brody
I see your point.
Spencer Newharth
Got you, Yanni.
Yanni Brody
But I still think that baked beans.
Brad Brooks
That was an easy.
Seth
Well, that's how Guy Fieri cooks it.
Yanni Brody
Giannis, you keep trying with the Guy Fieri analogies, but I don't think you're gonna come up with one. The king of the jungle wasn't even close.
Brad Brooks
Close in what way?
Yanni Brody
Well, because we're not electing anything of any municipality in your comparison.
Spencer Newharth
Again, we're on question nine. This pharaoh was buried with a statue that depicts himself hunting hippos with a harpoon.
Brad Brooks
You guys just took it too literally because there were important words in there.
Corey Reeva
Like every other question.
Yanni Brody
Yeah. Stupid thing to do.
Brad Brooks
You saw a municipality.
Seth
Municipality, and you're just keep this farce moving along.
Brad Brooks
The word municipality tricked you into thinking that you needed a serious answer.
Phil
Spencer, can we have a candle burning for every episode of Trivia?
Spencer Newharth
You think that's enjoying it? Okay.
Seth
You could even put some. Do some mood lighting, Phil. You know, turn it down a little bit.
Phil
We can still do that. I just didn't want it to look too much like Radio Live, which we just wrapped up. But, you know, I can.
Spencer Newharth
Does everyone have an answer for the pharaoh?
Seth
There we go.
Spencer Newharth
Who was buried with a statue that depicts himself hunting hippos with a harpoon? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth without an answer. Corey says King Tut Same. Anthony says Guy Fieri. Randall says King Tut. Riva without an answer. Brad says that one. Egyptian pharaoh. Yannis says. What's that say?
Yanni Brody
Egyptian.
Spencer Newharth
Egyptian. Brody says King Tut. That's right. The correct answer is King Tut. About half of the room got that one right. Tut became King Tut.
Randall Williams
That wasn't a hunting question.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, yeah. He found it in, like the 1920s Lord Carnaval history. Question Tut became King tut at age 9 and died at age 19. Based on the artifacts in his tomb, he was a fanatical hunter. Besides the hippo hunting statue, he was buried with. Hunting daggers, a hunting chariot, throwing sticks for hunting birds, a fan that shows him hunting ostriches, and a box that shows him hunting gazelle. Before question 10, here is a correct answer review so far. One, was fruit bat. Two, Atlanta Braves. Three, Winnebago. Four, Chutney. Five, Blue Jay. Six, Inglourious Bastards. Seven, Jawjacker. Eight, Flavortown. Nine, King Tut. Phil, give us a final scoreboard update.
Phil
Here. We are sorry for that delay. It's coming down to Corey, Brody and Randall. Corey and Brody have six points. Randall has seven.
Spencer Newharth
Question 10. The topic is conservation. Dry Tortugas national park is located off the coast of what state?
Seth
Come on.
Spencer Newharth
Too easy. The questions are too hard and they're too easy.
Randall Williams
Too easy for Randall.
Spencer Newharth
Dry Tortugas national park is located off the coast of what state? Randall, do you have this one right?
Brad Brooks
I believe so.
Spencer Newharth
Thinks it's going to secure victory.
Brad Brooks
Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
You'd like to go, right? Dry Tortugas national park is located off the coast of what state? Seth, you gonna come up with an answer?
Corey Reeva
I don't know.
Spencer Newharth
You've been there.
Corey Reeva
The state.
Brad Brooks
Boy. Now I'm second guessing my answer because I know where Seth's been. No.
Phil
Flavortown.
Brad Brooks
Yeah, Phil.
Spencer Newharth
Is everybody ready besides Seth? Seth is writing down his answer. Dry Tortugas national park located off the coast. I don't know what.
Yanni Brody
That's not it.
Brad Brooks
I'll reveal it in one second.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah. If you want to help these guys out who are so angry about Flavortown, you can throw this question and go to overtime.
Brad Brooks
I might. I just went with the first thing that came to mind.
Spencer Newharth
Okay. So, Seth, are you ready?
Corey Reeva
You know, it doesn't matter.
Spencer Newharth
Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth without an answer. Corey says Florida. Anthony says Oregon. Randall says Florida. Riva, Alaska. Brad, Hawaii. Brody and Yanni say Florida. The correct answer is Florida. Making Randall our winner with eight correct answers.
Brad Brooks
Bring that average up.
Spencer Newharth
Dry Tortugas is 65,000 acres of the least disturbed coral reefs in the Florida Keys. It's known for its abundance of sea life, tropical birds and shipwrecks. The only way to get there is via a 70 mile journey by boat or seaplane. Despite being so hard to reach, the park gets about 60,000 visitors each year. Randall, as the winner, you get to choose where the $500 donation from Meat Eater goes. What's it going to be?
Brad Brooks
I'd like to give it to the trcp. Just doing all around good work for hunters and anglers. And I failed them earlier in my embarrassing attempt to catch a fish in one minute. So I'd like to make good on that.
Spencer Newharth
Yep, they can thank Randall and Guy Fieri and flavortown for that $500.
Yanni Brody
Good job, Randall.
Spencer Newharth
Join us next week.
Phil
Good job.
Spencer Newharth
Deflated game show where conservation always wins.
Brad Brooks
I'm tickled that Guy Fieri won it.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah, Spencer from South Dakota, he's the host. Using those smooth, mellow tones, he lays them questions down and he likes taking those two and three year old bucks. And he's an avid amateur rock hound.
Hey guys, earlier this year we launched Meat Eater Kids Podcast and we made a deal where if you guys liked it and loved it and listened to it, we were going to make more. And you did. And we did.
